French restaurant
Vin Rouge is a classic French restaurant known for its intimate and upscale atmosphere, offering an extensive wine list to complement the cuisine. The executive chef, Matt Kelly, has brought authentic Spanish tapas to the vibrant eatery Mateo Bar de Tapas.
Simply delicious! The restaurant is so quaint and beautiful. Feels like you're actually in France! Our server was just awesome and so accommodating. A manger stopped by and was very friendly and genuinely concerned that everything was perfect. French onion soup, fries, and baked oysters were all outstanding! Will return soon!

Any time I review one of Giorgio’s restaurant, I always disclose that I am current staff at one of his restaurants, as I wouldn’t feel comfortable reviewing otherwise: Peer review systems are important 🙂 Arriving at the doors you’re instantly met by a wealth of smiles/friendly faces. The experience is absolutely stellar. Jax our server, was professional, knowledgeable, made excellent food, and wine recommendations, was extremely kind, and coursed everything out perfectly like a champ. Support worked hard to ensure there were clean utensils and dishes throughout the entire meal. Management, Alex, was incredibly welcoming, I felt right at home, as if I dined there 100 times before. Absolutely incredible.

I wanted to try this restaurant as a birthday treat. The atmosphere was nice and lended itself to the special occasion. The cheese and wine were so good, but the lamb/potato chef’s special (pictured below) was absolutely awful; it was too salty and had a weird texture. I also noticed they delivered my entree to the wrong table, took it back, walked out the room, and then brought it to me. Of note, I appreciated the candle lit dessert they provided at the end of my meal.

This is such a cool and quaint little restaurant. So much effort in the atmosphere. The employees in particular are well trained and very pleasant. It's refined without being pretentious. Just really nice French dining at a reasonable price. The menu is simple and tailored to items they excel in, so you don't need to worry about what you order. Highly recommend. Parking is a little rough in this area. Plan ahead.

I had an intimate wedding dinner here in the red room. It was perfect for our group of 14 (but there was room for a couple more). The service was incredible. I felt so well taken care of the whole time, and the food was magnificent (as it always is here). They printed custom menus with our names and date which I thought was a sweet touch. I would highly recommend for a high-end private event!

Always a top notch experience! From the moment you walk through the door until you leave, it's always great. Host staff and wait staff are excellent. We visited this time for our 25th anniversary. Started with a cocktail and wine. Snails and a cheese plate. I'm not into snails, but my wife lives them. The cheeses were delicious! Hanger steak for me, fish for the wife. Perfect! Got an on-the-house chocolate something or other for our anniversary. Soooo decadent!

We were blown away by our dining experience here. I grew up in France, and am a big foodie, loving Michelin starred restaurants. This Durham restaurant where I went with my son blew us away with the quality of its flavours, cuisine, and produce. The menu is simple but rich and varied, the produce is excellent, and it's cooked to perfection. And the bill was very reasonable, and the service friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!!

The service was THE BEST! The folks there were chill yet knowledgeable and attentive. The food prep and presentation was most pleasant! They have an excellent wine menu so - enjoy! Would return again!

Nestled in the heart of downtown Durham, Geer Street Garden is a charming eatery that has transformed a former gas station into a cozy haven for food lovers. This casual spot is perfect for indulging in Southern-style comfort food paired with craft cocktails and local beers. The inviting outdoor patio features picnic tables where you can relax with friends while savoring their renowned burgers and delicious sides.
We love Geer Street Garden—a regular haunt, drop in for lunch on a busy work day, weekend drink spot. Andy is just amazing, and TAKE A LOOK at the glorious Daikon Radish Cake in the photo, which was so delicate and fragrant and perfect (omg!). Chinese week is a particular favorite for my partner and me, but you should ALWAYS try the specials, as the menu changes to reflect local produce and everything is delicious—the bruschetta, the salads, the gnocchi! I particularly love the tofu bánh mì. Special shout out to Mark and Brian, who are also extraordinary artists in addition to serving your delicious food and being wonderful human beings to talk with, even during hectic lunch times when they are handling a great many tasks ❤️ We love you, Geer Street!

A truly fabulous experience in every way. Professional, courteous, and incredibly kind staff. Sundy brunch is a treat! Endless, very tasty breakfast menu. Separate generous salmon & bagel plate. Excellent endless coffee. A really great place to dine! Highly recommended !

I stopped by w my 2 Aussies on my way to my sis's in Cary (I just moved to Richmond from Austin this Fall and marked up places I wanted to check out btw there and here now that I can visit by car rather than plane). Very friendly staff, great service by Kristen and the bartender Jen was cool too just to come out to see the dogs, the covered patio was quite cool w the fans on and the patio area itself was both large and pretty, encased by plants on all sides w some Japanese lamps strung along the ceiling to set the vibe with good music. Shout out to Kimberly and Rose tendin my dogs w love while I ventured around to take pictures. The ambiance you can see in the menu reminded me of a fusion health place that was unafraid to still offer a burger, fries, and wings. I had grilled asparagus with parmesan & a perfect sunny side up egg over it all to make it decadent, and I also had the deviled eggs. Feeling good, I over-indulged w an order of wings too. I figure all that is under 1000 calories and 10-15 g. carbs so yay me for my only meal of the day (keto sux). Add 200 cal of whiskey and I'm good to go. Prices are reasonable, but you can't put a price on a cool, shaded, outdoor patio that allows dogs, even if mine were the only in attendance...there are water bowls everywhere here! Just sayin, I'd pay more. It's a relaxed atmosphere, so don't be scared of some of the elevated menu choices. I haven't found a place in Cary or Richmond like this that serves liquor, so I think I have found my fix everytime I venture between. 5 stars!

DOG FRIENDLY!!! We took the dogs with us and they were given each their own bowl of water. I had eggplant parmigiana with homemade spaghetti and sauce made with lots of fresh garlic. Yummy! My BFF had a bacon cheeseburger with fried green tomatoes. My drink was their special watermelon tea which was delicious. Parking cost $10.00.

We called in a pick up order, and got to walk around a bit while we waited. It was crowded, but well worth it! We got a biscuit and it was delicious!! It seems like they have a good system to handle how popular they are. Can’t wait to go back!

Without a doubt, some Of the best food you will eat anywhere. I consider the prices the lowest I've seen for the high quality of food. The deserts/cakes are to die for. The food shop has wonderful selections to take home. If you are near Durham, you have to visit!

Loved bringing my dog here and having a wonderful brunch. I like how they were set up to seat yourself, order upfront and someone will deliver your order. It made for fast service.

The place was heaving with people when we came in Saturday for late breakfast/brunch, but the ordering situation (at the counter with lots of folks taking orders) made things move along super-quickly. We had my brother and sister-in-law's dog with us and sat outside, where "all animals are welcome." (Hank is kind of an anxious fellow but after a little medication and a treat he settled pretty well -- we were in the section to the right of the front door, down a few steps, which was unoccupied except by us for the majority of our visit.) I ordered the omelette with corn, asparagus, and I don't know what else, but it was massive and SOOOOO good! Wish I had paid attention to the sauce but it made the dish. Came with home fries that were also delicious. SIL had avocado toast, brother had chilaquiles, and both of their plates were spotless when they finished (WITHOUT help from Hank 😉), and we all enjoyed our coffees, one brewed and two fancy. The staff was amazing and friendly, the lines moved quickly, and the atmosphere was fun and congenial. Will definitely be back and bringing more visitors!

Overall really great! I loved the ham egg and cheese biscuit, and my dirty chai latte was amazing. The chai actually tasted like high quality chai. I also had tiramisu and it was great! Everything was maybe a touch pricy so I won’t come here all the time, but I will say the food was worth it if you feel like splurging. LGBT friendly as far as I’m aware, I’m visibly queer and was treated well. Gravel parking lot and mixed terrain floors inside, so if you have physical disabilities navigating the space might be challenging. They do have a ramp into the building. I added some videos of the handicap parking and the parking lot/floors.

Nice cozy place that serves breakfast and lunch. We were in Durham area and looking for a nice local place to support. Foster’s Market definitely matched what we were looking to find. We both ordered sandwiches that were fantastic. Nice size and well made. I ordered the Jammin Turkey Breast Sandwich (very yummy) with just the right amount of spice from the pepper jelly. My wife ordered the Roasted Turkey Breast sandwich, which she really enjoyed. Very nice place to visit with friendly people and plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. If in the area you need to visit.

Great concept. Sandwich shop and coffee shop in an old farmhouse. Great staff. Food was good and sitting outside was nice, plenty of indoor seating also. Try a slice of pie with your meal
Terry T — Google review
A fun, eclectic restaurant with a deliciously diverse menu that makes you want to come back again and again until you have tasted every item on the menu. You feel like you step back in time as you peruse the old-time candy collection and the ample selection some of the tastiest cakes and pastries on earth. There is a separate coffee counter where you can get an excellent cup of made-to-order coffee just the way you like it. There is indoor and covered and sort of uncovered outdoor seating. It was a perfect day when we went, and we sat on the covered porch and made a memory of a lifetime with the family. I plan to make this an annual family sojourn. I can’t wait to return to this “destination restaurant” in Durham. Highly recommended, be prepared for a great time and delicious meal!

True Flavors Diner is a bustling and cozy spot in south Durham, known for its modern twist on classic Southern homestyle dishes. The inventive menu features mouthwatering options like slow-roasted duck hash and creamy four-cheese shrimp and grits. The diner's energetic and comfortable atmosphere, complete with an open kitchen, adds to the unique dining experience.
I loved this place!! It's very unassuming from the outside, but as soon as you walk in it's a vibe! The restaurant is decorated and the playlist was fire! This is an issue I have with so many places I visit.. zero decoration on the inside and no personality. I got the cheesy grits and peach marscapone French toast. Delicious, but sweet. I had to take my French toast home with me because I can't take too much sugar. The cheesy grits are probably my #1 restaurant grits. (My wife makes the best, no one should fault me for that.) My wife got the open face omlette with smothered potatoes.... she said the eggs were fluffy and all the flavors really came through. The curried chicken sausage was amazing. The smothered potatoes were delicious! The gravy was thick enough to coat the potatoes but not crazy thick like a sausage gravy. Everything came out individually, but piping hot. The service was fantastic. The gentleman had a dry sense of humor which matched ours perfectly. He was a perfect fit for us. I will be recommending this to everyone I know who visits the area!!
Kealey M — Google review
Came for breakfast with parents and my teenage kids. Seated the 5 of us on a 4 top. Rather awkward seating as the tables are average sized for diner. Was somewhat busy when we arrived so pushing two tables together was likely out of the question. Casual dining, fairly relaxed atmosphere. Food came out quick and the server was excellent and attentive. The crab omelet and fried chicken seemed a bit underseasoned. That is the only criticism. The chicken was crispy and very tender otherwise. Everything else from the French toast, pork chop, southern egg sandwich were phenomenal. Parking is a bit limited in front of the restaurant but larger open parking in the shopping center is available. Overall, great place for brunch. Would come again.

I invited a friend to visit True Flavors for brunch this morning with the goal of supporting a minority owned business on Juneteenth. Upon arrival my friend had not made it into the restaurant as yet. The woman who greets patrons at the door asked that I step outside until my friend arrived as they do not seat you until all members of the party are present. This is a very small storefront diner. So I understood how crowded it can get. However, her delivery may not have carried so well with someone else. There was a gentleman in the kitchen, perhaps a head cook, who greeted us pleasantly when my friend arrived. I wish this demeanor had been carried out throughout the dining experience. We were seated and given 1 menu to share. Table settings had been left out and uncovered at the table. I asked our server for dining recommendations. I decided on the hazelnut iced coffee and the Fish & Grits which is served with 2 eggs of your choice. I ordered mine over easy. Mini Biscuits were delivered to the table. I did not enjoy these. Lackluster. My meal arrived and the presentation was spot on. I enjoyed this dish. The green onions and grits were very flavorful. I would compare the cheese grits to Mac & Cheese. it being served in a small skillet was a nice touch. The fish was fried very similar to chicken and was not overly seasoned or salted. I enjoyed my meal, however, the lack of courteous customer service was a big miss for me here and I don't have a reason to return. Often, when I attempt to support local businesses with staff of my own race, they low ball on the service and up charge on the dime. I have to dine where my dollar is appreciated & presence is valued.

A local Durham favorite! Very laid back vibe but still excellent service and the food is incredible!!!! They can take something as simple as a ham and cheese omelet and make it unique and so tasty. Great for breakfast, brunch, or lunch! But fyi they don’t have alcohol if you’re looking for it. However the food is so good I still highly recommend!
KC Z — Google review
My harvest vegetable skillet was amazing, mac and cheese was not salty enough to me but that's a personal preference though still good. Biscuit was fluffy and buttery. Only 4 stars because my partner did not fully enjoy his chicken and waffles but the service was amazing and atmosphere was nice. I would recommend anyone to come.
AJ J — Google review
Wonderful brunch spot! Great service, super cute decor and vibe. The biscuits were delicious - so many unique and delicious sounding menu options. We tried the berry lime French toast and the Pernil grits. The grits were delicious, pernil was tender. The French toast was thick and encrusted in what reminded me of a cinnamon roll. The lime berry butter was unique and addicting. The pork sausage was also delicious! This will be a regular in our brunch rotation!

Our experience of the service was much different than other reviews I have read. We were kindly greeted immediately and offered seating. The hostess took our beverage order until the server was available. Server was quick and attentive. Cleared our table and checked in often. The restaurant is clean which I appreciated. Didn't love the food sanitation rating so I look forward to seeing that improve. About the food: We ordered the Whiskey Soaked strawberry French toast. French toast was great! Served with warm syrup on the side. Eggs and bacon were tasty (parsley was unnecessary). Strawberries did not taste like whiskey or much of anything. They were just kind of soggy, not very sweet. The strawberry butter was the same. We were served some complimentary biscuits and strawberry compote once we ordered. Those were tasty! The dense and buttery kind not on the super flaky side for those that like one more than the other style. The strawberry compote didn't have much flavor to it. Tasted like blended frozen strawberries. Also ordered the roasted duck grits. It was really good but not worth $20. The roasted duck ragu was more sauce than duck. It was almost like a scattered topping. The duck and chicken sausage was good but wasn't chopped well enough to bite into. Just kind of like chunked up links. Great portions for both dishes. Music was too loud for a conversation but when I looked around, the guests all seemed to enjoy their experience and food. We will come again and give another try for sure.

Italian restaurant
Mothers & Sons Trattoria is a charming and stylish eatery that specializes in crafting homemade Italian cuisine, along with serving craft cocktails and wine. The restaurant is renowned for its fine dining experience in Durham, offering some of the best Italian food in the area. With a focus on regional Italian dishes and seasonal ingredients, Mothers & Sons Trattoria captures the essence of traditional Italian cooking.
We enjoyed our meal. We shared the burrata and Buffalo mozzarella. Both were incredible. I had a seasonal pasta of pesto made with ramps and he had bucatini. We shared a gianduja budino for desert, which neither of us had heard of, but we both really enjoyed. The tables were pretty close together and I don't think a wheelchair would fit through. When I went to the restroom,I thought it might be gender neutral because I didn't see a sign, but it was multi stall, so it had to be? When I left I saw a picture of a woman next to the door. Was that supposed to count as a sign? It just looked like a picture on the wall.

Beautiful interior with comfortably well executed dishes and flavor profiles. Love the vibes of the bar and the atmosphere. Solid selection of amaros and cocktails to pick from. Delicious selection of meats. Solid comfort food in general, warm and inviting on the tongue like a blanket of savory flavor in each dish.

Fantastic food and service! We can’t wait to return in our next trip. Pastas were al dente without having to ask, the porch Etta is perfect for sharing and the crispy octopus was tender on the inside.

Service was great; we had a wonderful server. We ordered the mozzarella and beet salad which was unique and flavorful. I ordered the paccheri cacio e pepe pasta and my husband ordered the butternut squash dunderi. My pasta was good, not over the top delicious but good. My husband’s was disappointing as it was cold, from the dunderi to the sauce. That was unfortunate and made the overall food experience a negative.

My mom and I had a great dinner at Mother and Son's last night! I made a reservation to celebrate my mom's birthday, and the host greeted us with a tasteful little "Happy birthday" note. Our server, Alicia, was wonderful! Super knowledgeable, kind, and funny. And very low key but sweet about my mom's birthday. She gave us a free cannolo with a little candle in it at the end :) The food was very good. We split a green salad, eggplant parmesan, and sides of rapini and polenta. The rapini was weakest--very bitter and not much other flavor. The other dishes were great! Very generous serving sizes.

Get the Dunderi (gnocchi)! This place had one of the best pasta dishes I've had in the triangle in terms of uniqueness and flavor. You won't find a dish like this one, squash, brown butter sauce (I think), and the Tagliatelle al Ragu was also phenomenal. Burschetta was good, arancini was good, desert of Panna cotta was also good. Overall top 5 Italian restaurant in the triangle, a must-try if you love Italian and like to try new places! Alexander was a fantastic server and I barely got a pic of our food before it was gone!
Whitaker B — Google review
I've been here 4 times this year. The first visit was the best and the experience has been worse every time I come. The bread was cold and hard. The staff is so busy that it takes awhile to get your order in, get water refilled, for the bill, etc. It took so long that at the end the waitress did not even ask if we wanted dessert. We were also ready to go home. Some plates are delicious and others were nothing spectacular. Overall experience is that they are too busy to make sure you're having a good experience.
Yeaji C — Google review
I wasn't crazy about the menu. would liked to have seen some type of shrimp and scallop pasta, something other than a tomato sauce in general; Osso Bucco would be easy for the kitchen and great for the cooler months over saffron risotto...also pricey, and the wines by the glass are under poured. But it's great that they make their own pasta, and my wife seemed to like it more than I did.

Although the staff seemed to be having an off day, the AMAZING food made up for it! Their large menu has something for everyone, their greek couscous was my favorite side! The wide variety of seating: indoors, outdoors, roof top, and an enclosed roof top allows you to choose whatever environment suits you. The amount of food for the price was shockingly excellent. I will bring a group of people here for an event soon!

Food was ok. I love the atmosphere, staff and vibe. Their prices are extremely affordable!!! Three meals for $35 is a win in my book. However the prices on the menu are out dated. But still not to bad.

DEAR LORD THIS PLACE. First - next level food (more on that in a second). Second - legit prices. Third - atmosphere, venue, and location. I love everything about it. UPDATE I'VE NOW HAD LUNCH/DINNER AND IT RIVALS BFAST! Go at all times. Try all foods. No not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Go Straight to heaven. Best pimento cheese sandwich in my life, top five chicken sandwiches of my life, and the butter bean salad is phenomenal NOW ABOUT THE FOOD. It's crazy to say but only had two dishes and a couple of sides and there were at least three things that are unbelievable. The House Cured CORNED BEEF is absolutely out of this world, (out of this world) and I'm not somebody that normally orders it. It was just incredible. Secondly, the In-House Made CASHEW ALMOND PEANUT BUTTER I could eat from a large cereal bowl. Seriously, if you go try Grub you absolutely need to order a side of the almond cashew peanut butter and eat it with a damn spoon. Third, the carrot cake was 1000% homemade and incredible. Everything else was awesome, also had the blue devil smoothie and it was fantastic. And the breakfast cocktails were totally reasonably low priced.

Visited this spot for Sunday brunch around 11 AM and was pleasantly surprised. There was a short line when we arrived, but it moved quickly. Ordering is done at the counter, and you can grab a seat either indoors or outside while you wait. We kicked things off with a coffee and a smoothie—both were excellent and super refreshing. For food, we went with the breakfast platter, which included over-medium eggs, maple bacon, and crispy breakfast potatoes. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The only miss was the bagel, which came out a little too hard—probably over-toasted. We also tried the breakfast sandwich on a biscuit, and it was fantastic—huge portion and really tasty. Overall, great vibes and great food. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Great breakfast spot! There was a short line when we arrived and it moved quickly! menus were available to look at while we waited! They offer a good selection of breakfast options, including coffees and mimosas! We ordered and sat on the rooftop. They brought our food to us and water was complimentary (self-help style). I ordered the slammer plate- best scrambled eggs ive had in a long time! Pancake was crispy on the edges and thick and fluffy on the inside! I added blueberries to the cakes and they come with butter and syrup! Bacon was not my fav but my friend loved the pepper on the bacon. Grits were different- the verdict is still out on those- also they put cheese in the grits which i didnt see on the menu. (I may have missed it but i think you should specify if you put cheese in the grits). Overall, a great spot to have a beautiful breakfast at 2pm in the afternoon!!

Loved the biscuit and gravy! And the ambience - good music, plenty of seating in the shade, and lots of character. Not busy for Tuesday breakfast which made it all the better.

Based on my rating, you can tell I did not care for the food. I see they have thousands that rate them very highly, and I hear their catering service has a great reputation. I found the food less than average, and the presentation made it seem even less. The grit bowl was served in a paper bowl and the coffee in a paper cup. I had a hard time figuring out how to get water. You have to order prior to setting down. You are given tip options prior to getting your food or even setting down. I doubt I will return.

Guglhupf Restaurant is a lively and vibrant cafe that has been a local favorite for over 20 years. This upscale German bakery, cafe, and biergarten offers a diverse menu featuring classic German dishes alongside seasonal entrees that highlight the region's farm-fresh produce. The restaurant also caters to vegans and vegetarians with an array of inventive plant-based options.
Guglhupf is a gem! Even on a busy Friday morning, we found parking and got a table without a wait. The bakery selection is incredible — so many tempting options. I especially loved the peach blueberry scone — absolutely delicious. The main menu has something for everyone, and the outdoor seating was perfect on a hot day. Great food, great atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Great place with great food. Very interesting how this restaurant is arranged. For me that is more like a cafe style. You can order food at the window with a cash register or from girls nearby with a device and pay for your order right there. Your order will be brought to you by a waiter and just like in a cafe, you choose the place where you want to sit. I like it very much! We didn't have to wait long for our food and coffee, even though the restaurant looked crowded. I really love croissants and I have to say that almond croissant was surprisingly exactly what a croissant should be - soft inside and crispy outside. The coffee was also very tasty. Kippered Salmon was amazing! I will definitely come back to this place for dinner.

Very popular breakfast choice we got there before they’re opened and I was already a line. There is no table service for ordering food. You must stand in a line and order your food and it’s hard to get a refill of coffee. I found the food to be quite tasty and yummy with a slight German influence at least on the breakfast menu many of the seats are outside. There’s a small inside area. The outside has a lovely garden with cool weird statues. There’s a separate line for the bakery so you might wanna get in that line 1st get a snack while you wait over a half hour to put in your order.

We came here for breakfast — just like the hundreds of other people standing in line that morning. Right away, I’ll say this: you’ve got to come early. Expect to wait at least 30 minutes, sometimes more. We waited about 40 minutes before getting in. Honestly, they could make the line process a bit smoother. While we were waiting, I noticed a bunch of empty tables, but the line was still barely moving. It also wasn’t super clear at the end where exactly you’re supposed to go — like whether to walk up to the counter or wait to be seated. It would really help if they had more printed menus outside, so people could decide what they want ahead of time instead of taking forever at the counter. Best move? Check out the menu online before you go. Now, about the food. We ordered a strawberry cheese danish, which was really good. For our daughter, we got pancakes. My wife had the lamb gyro (or something similar), and I ordered a tuna sandwich on sourdough. Though technically, it was more like a tuna spread than a sandwich — but it was delicious. Not super filling, but really tasty. My wife liked her gyro too, though she said it was a bit awkward to eat — maybe they could plate it differently. Our daughter loved her pancakes and the cherry cheese danish — both were excellent. So for food, we’d give it 5/5. Atmosphere-wise, it’s a fun spot — lively and busy, especially in the morning. I’d love to come back during Oktoberfest to really feel the vibe. Definitely another 5/5 for atmosphere. Now for service — that part I wasn’t thrilled about. You have to get your own water, utensils, and napkins, though they do bring the coffee to your table. I just don’t really get why they ask for 18–25% tips at the counter when you’re basically doing half the work yourself. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it did feel a bit off. Still, it didn’t ruin the experience — just something they could improve on.
Filipp N — Google review
Wow is an understatement, outstanding bakery, and food great menu. We enjoyed it so much. We are returning for breakfast before we fly out on Sunday morning. It was so good. I had to tell my cousin’s wife who is German about it so they can visit when they are up in this area. This is definitely on a go to list now every time we come up to visit our granddaughter at Duke.
John F — Google review
Every dish was generous in portion, high quality, and also, rather fairly priced for what I would call a pretty bougie setting. Lots of parking and service is quick. Outdoor seating is very nice and scenic, but there’s limited indoor options. The hot chocolate is very good and doesn’t just taste like Swiss miss!
Nabil K — Google review
I absolutely loved this place! It definitely gives that German/European vibe with the way you order cafeteria style! The food was amazing and I got their Turmeric Latte which didn’t disappoint! This is the top of my brunch places to go now!

I actually really enjoyed my time here! Although you have to line up to order your food, the line does move relatively quickly and the staff is super nice. You would hope for a really good day so that you can sit outside. I think that's better than sitting inside, but there is inside seating as well. Also, if there are multiple people in your party, you can take turns and go get snacks from the bakery to eat while you're waiting in line to order your food. I would definitely recommend brunch. * parking was surprisingly not a total nightmare. It's almost like as you're coming someone is leaving so they're legit was always a spot and they have a parking lot in the back. I couldn't tell you how to get there, but there is one.

Mateo Bar de Tapas is a trendy spot in downtown Durham, housed in a former Book Exchange building. The restaurant offers a blend of Southern-style tapas with an Iberian influence, creating unique flavor combinations such as BBQ pork with piquillo cheese and roasted bone marrow with oxtail marmalade. Chef Matthew Kelly's culinary expertise shines through the rich selection of Spanish flavors, some even infused with local touches.
OMG seriously.... The food here was Ahhhhmmaaazzzinngggg!!! Our waitress Kate was so awesome. The vibes were so chill and I love the fact that you could order so much and share and just in case you didn't like it, it was small, but I loved everything I ordered!! Again, if my stomach had more room, I would have had so much more, but it gives me a reason to come back again and again to hopefully try the whole menu. The prices were reasonable too. So awesome!! Chefs kiss 😘

Great laidback atmosphere with the menu being mostly small plates. There are a couple larger plates for 3+ people to share as well. Can be a little loud due to high ceilings but over all a great place to share a meal with friends or a date. Flavors are all well balanced and the service was great!

This is my third time, and my wife’s and my second time in the last year. Fantastic restaurant with a great atmosphere, and so many delicious options. Today we celebrated our seventh anniversary, and our waiter even threw in a little something special, which we really appreciated! While we didn’t get it this time, I think the best dessert is the apple pie. We also really liked the pork belly, but you really can’t go wrong with anything… Except for the chicken croquettes, that one we did not like ha.

First visit here, loved the decor and vibe. Each dish was truly great, high quality ingredients and expertly prepared. We had the roasted beets salad, little neck clams with jamon and boiled peanuts (somehow this works), the jamon croquettes - out of this world, potatoes bravas and the pulpo (our favorite but not pictured). Only 2 comments: 1) I wish the potatoes did not have the tomato sauce smothered on top (side dish is better) else they get soggy, which defeats the purpose of deep frying them in the first place, and 2) I would recommend a bit more spice / heat on the clams..smoked paprika or cayenne or something. Our server was very pleasant, attentive and joyful. We will be back!

Over priced food compared to the environment. The chairs need to repair honestly. The falling pieces are all over my shirt. They charge $3/person for cutting the cake, and turns out to be ugly crappy cakes. Barely no service and 20% tips added.

The Refectory Cafe is a colorful and casual eatery that offers breakfast, brunch, and casual American food with vegan options. The dinner menu features a variety of vegan and vegetarian-friendly dishes, such as Indian dal mahkani stew and hoisin Brussels sprouts. The menu changes seasonally to incorporate locally sourced ingredients. Classic meat-free dishes like Piccata with cauliflower, roasted brussels sprouts, veggie lasagna, and more are also available.
Fantastic brunch spot with an extensive menu - everything is clearly labeled. Came here with friends who had the crab cake burger and fries. I ordered the veggie quiche with side of avocado. My husband ordered the tofu scramble hash. Everything was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend trying this place!
Rachele W — Google review
The Refectory Cafe is a true gem in Durham’s brunch scene. We tried the avocado toast and the breakfast bowl with grits, both of which were flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. The avocado toast was vibrant and perfectly seasoned, while the breakfast bowl combined creamy grits with hearty ingredients that made for a satisfying start to the day. We also sampled the chicken and waffles—crispy, tender, and just the right amount of indulgent. What stood out across all dishes was the freshness of the ingredients and the attention to detail in preparation. The cafe also offers a solid range of vegetarian options, making it an inclusive spot for different dietary preferences. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, and the service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fresh, delicious breakfast or brunch in Durham.

This was a "happy little accident"! We originally came over here for Guglhupf, and pulled into this parking lot, decided to go in, and we're more than pleasantly surprised! The food is flavorful, healthy, and I feel full-and clean- eating it! I had the Fresh Strawberry smoothie and Baked Oatmeal. The smoothie is so fresh- like it came from a garden! The Baked Oatmeal is just that! It's crunchy on top from being baked, it's slightly squishy in the middle with blueberries. I love oatmeal and this made my day! My fiance had French Toast and his face lit up! It has not lit up like that in YEARS!! Over the moon happy!!

If you're looking for a delightful culinary experience, "It's a Southern Thing" in Downtown Durham is the place to be. This upscale restaurant combines an industrial-chic ambiance with an open kitchen, creating a vibrant atmosphere perfect for enjoying elevated Southern cuisine. Known for its generous portions and modern twists on classic comfort food, you can indulge in dishes like crab dip, catfish sandwiches, and shrimp & grits.
Food came out in less than 10minutes which was very surprising since they had a sizeable full restaurant and private party in the back. Dinner was great, fresh hot and plated well!! Burger seemed to have nice smoked bacon strip and super cheesy. The shrimp and grits were not overly spicy and very flavorful steel grits. The half chicken was a star, grilled very crispy skin with some slight spice heat on it but the chicken brine made extremely moist, definitely one of the best half chickens I've had. Very nice restaurant for date night. Will certainly be back. It's only 3minutes from Durham Performing Arts Center.

A friend and I were looking for a quick bite before heading to RDU and stumbled upon this place. The atmosphere that Saturday was a bit loud because there was a Duke game happening it looked like. The food and service was pretty good and even though it took a while to get to us, once it arrived it was delicious. The shrimp and grits was my favorite! I would still be back to try their other selections but choose a different day!

My party visited on Sunday, April 13th. While we were promptly seated and initially attended to, we experienced periods of slow service from our assigned waiter. Fortunately, the individual responsible for the bottomless mimosas was consistently attentive, ensuring glasses remained full and proactively seeking our waiter's attention when needed. We also appreciated the assistance offered by a fellow member of the wait staff. For appetizers, I would recommend the biscuits, which were a satisfying offering. However, I would advise against the chicken and waffles. While the waffle's presentation was unique, resembling a hush puppy, the chicken lacked seasoning, and the dish did not meet expectations for this classic pairing. Overall, this establishment appears to be a suitable venue for social gatherings, particularly for their Sunday mimosa service.

Amazing restaurant, staff, and the BBQ staff was some of the best and I’ve ever had! BBQ pulled pork was awesome! Mac and Cheese was delicious! They also have great daily specials on food and drinks. Kendra took care of me and was very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone in the Durham area.

If you want to enjoy your meal, don't take their 1:30 reservation offering on a Sunday. I drove 2.5 hrs to meet my sons and their girlfriends for lunch and we went here. We sat at 1:25pm outside on a gorgeous Sunday. The 1st thing they say to us is the kitchen closes at 145 and you have to leave by 245pm. Not, "hi", "how are you", welcome". Then she came back with menus, no utensils, no water (asked 3x for). She still did no introduction and was like what do you want. I wanted to get up and leave but we were there, and it was lovely outside. My 1 son was not gonna make it by 145 so we ordered for them. Food was decent. Very rushed. Wait staff was aweful. Probably why on top of their menu said 15% gratuity added to every bill. Well, the bill came and of course, I forgot about the 15% gratuity added. Again, very rushed by the staff so I didn't look at bill, my mistake, and I added 20% gratuity. We were told to leave the patio outside , around the back very abruptly because they were cleaning (we left before 245 because we were trying to be respectful). We had to use restrooms but they wouldn't let us.. So on a $200 bill in less than 45 minutes, these very rude waitstaff made $70. If a restaurant is going to include gratuity, they should at least remind the person when they bring the bill, "gratuity included, any extra would be appreciated". Or be nice! The food was good, but there are a lot of amazing restaurants in Durham and I'd skip this one.

It's Sunday and I'm used to brunching after church, so why should I do less just because I'm in Durham, NC. Well Dunham is a lot different from the DMV, they don't really brunch and they sure don't do bottomless, luckily It's a Southern thing does both. I said hey found one spot that does bottomless, he said do they have food you can eat, I said yes, he said say less and we headed to brunch. Parking was not free and not our customary Park mobile, so it took us a little minute to register the truck and pay to park. We walked half a block and up the stairs to the restaurant. Though we didn't have a reservation, we were seated immediately. Kay was our server and when she heard we were visiting, she was full of suggestions. She made sure we knew about the bottomless mimosas and when I say bottomless, that's what I mean. There was a young lady walking around topping off your glass. Two sips gone and there she was topping off your glass. We had to tell her to stop lol. On the the food, he had never had fried green tomatoes, so we had to get an order. The tomatoes were delicious and served over pimento cheese. That cheese put the tomatoes over the top. He enjoyed them so much, he ordered the eggs blackstone with the fried green tomatoes and I ordered the Cajun salmon cake Bene. Both came with hash browns and fruit. There was an issue where someone took our order to a table with the same order. The manager came over and was very apologetic. We had no idea and didn't care as we were enjoying the mimosas and conversation, but truly appreciated her taking the time to let us know what happened. We decided to swap one of our benes. Let me tell you, he got the better of the dishes. Though there wasn't much to his dish, it was flavorful and seasoned well. My salmon cake, on the other hand, was bland with no seasoning and definitely nothing Cajun. The garlicky spinach added some flavor, but not enough. The hash browns were seasoned really well. They were crispy on the outside yet soft and pillowy on the inside. If I'm ever in Durham again on a Sunday, I will definitely return. Forgot to take pics of the green tomatoes and before we started eating, but at least I got half lol.

had an enjoyable time! Came for brunch on a Saturday afternoon with two friends and got shrimp and grits with “hashbrowns” (the potatoes in middle lol). The shrimp and grits were very flavorful! But hashbrowns/potatoes were a bit dry, and so was the pancakes my friends got. No complaints about the service. Would like to come again for dinner!

No wait. Really good food. They brought our appetizer at the same time as our food so that was pointless. The pancake charcuterie board was enough for me and my mom to share. The waffle balls were okay. I wasn’t fond of the jam.

With its airy ambiance and outdoor seating, it offers a relaxed atmosphere perfect for enjoying European-inspired snacks. The restaurant has gained popularity among locals, often drawing families and friends who are eager to savor its delightful menu.
The food is really good and the atmosphere is always buzzing however, it can be overwhelming and difficult to have conversations. I have waited up to 45 minutes for a Sunday brunch, but also, I waited because the food was good. The only major complaint from myself and everyone I have gone with is around the ordering/ service which is pushing towards online ordering with the QR codes. They do have table service available by request. I believe this is to make everyone feel comfortable, whether they like to order with a waiter or not, but it also creates a little weirdness.

Came here on a Saturday with a group of 6 people. We were told it would be an hour wait but were pleasantly seated within 20 minutes. From the beginning, we knew it would be a great experience. The cold brew coffee had such a great taste. For entrees we got the blueberry lemon crepe and the bruschetta which were amazing. Another buddy got the avocado club which is by far the best thing on the menu. The service was great and priced very fairly.

Everything about this dining experience was perfect!! I was taking myself on a “crepe date” while on a business trip and was so impressed by the service, the food, and the atmosphere! They asked if I preferred a paper menu (which I do!), they allowed me to order a “Raspberry Melba” crepe (a special my mother used to make me). It was delicious and comforting. The pistachio espresso was out of this world good! And my main meal was the BBQ Veggie crepe (I added two eggs). It was huge & flavorful! The atmosphere is bright and airy. Very modern and with clean lines and warm tones. I can’t wait to come back! Thank you to my server Alyssa for making the experience extra special!

My colleague treated me to lunch at this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. I am not sure if this restaurant takes reservations, but we did a walk-in. This was my first visit at this restaurant. They were pretty busy. Seems like a very popular spot for lunch. We waited for maybe 5 to 10 minutes before we were able to get seated and given a menu. I couldn’t decide what to order and wasn’t quite sure how the crêpes were put together; however, I ordered I believe it was a Down Home breakfast crêpe with fried egg. I thought the egg would be on the inside of the crêpe and did not realize that it was on the outside of the crêpe until I received my order. The crêpe tasted okay but I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if the egg was on the inside.

Joe went out in the rain to get my date and I a flower. He and the waitresses set us up in the best spot for a date per my request. It feels extremely high end. With a fair price to match that without it feeling pricey. The crew definitely earned their tip today 10/8/2025 and even did a last-minute to go pack so we could get to work on time. Thank you guys for having high ceilings, clean bathrooms, and a stellar crew- that guy that was drawing on a paper.

I went for the second time recently and I really enjoy their coffees. Appropriately strong without being too much or tasting burnt. The black sesame coconut latte was delicious and I had that hot while waiiting for our table. The wait can be a little extensive but definitely worth it. I tried the poutine and bbq veggies crepe ans split these up with my best friend since you do get rather large servings. Both were delicious. Food was served quickly, hot, flavorful. I would have liked more seasoning on my vegetables and that is my only complaint. Service was suuuper friendly and helpful with any questions or concerns we had.

Wow! The Fish & Chips are fantastic! Perfectly Fried fish with the perfect French fries. The flavor they can put in a white fish alone is worth the trip here. The Shrimp Tacos are the best in the state. It comes with a corn salad that will kerp you coming back for that alone. You must try a North Carolina beer with your meal. Ask for Jake! A1+ waiter.

My first visit on a Thursday night for dinner was great. The hostess was very friendly and my waitress, Summer, was both friendly and genuine. The food was phenomenal; the crispy chicken sandwich had a lot of flavor and it wasn’t overly breaded (appeared more grilled than fried). I also tried the she crab soup at the recommendation of my waitress, and devoured it. The meat was tender and the soup had a lot of flavor. I really enjoyed the whole meal and experience. My second visit on the following Monday (Memorial Day) for lunch, on my way back out of town, was less than desirable. The host was cold, but offered me options to sit just about anywhere in the restaurant, which I appreciated. Same went for my waiter. Though he did a great job for the standard spiel, I did not feel welcome at all and I finished my food quickly to leave the uncomfortable situation. The same crispy chicken sandwich wasn’t as good the second time either, it was heavily breaded which I felt like took away from a lot of the flavor I’d loved before.

I enjoyed dinner here alone. The service was quick and the ambience was pleasant. I ordered the cornmeal-crusted catfish with cheesy grits and green beans. Overall, it was a good meal, but I found it heavy for what I was looking for. I b would still recommend this place though - there were a lot of people eating the burgers. Maybe they know something I didn't know?

I stop by this restaurant several times a year and enjoy their seasonal dishes throughout. Eat dessert first - favorites include the chocolate torte. The bread basket is served with a special butter blend. Our favorite is the berry butter, and today, we tried the peach butter. Tried the cheeseburger and meatloaf. Next time, trying the BLT.

Do not...do not! Worst ever! Had charred Romain with salmon. The Romain had brown endings which suggests it's old. The lettuce tasted like charcoal and/or lighter fluid. The salmon.... How do they let that leave the kitchen!?? Gordon Ramsay would be all over that just look at it. Daughter has the shrimp tacos who also said it tasted the same. We ordered a kale salad that never came. Salmon also didn't come with salad (as ordered)...came later with something that looked like a fake plastic piece of fish.

Service was great. Seafood pizza was okay. I'd say it would have been better with a creamy sauce rather than pesto. NC style BBQ plate was tasty. The interior is small and loud. Thankfully, they have outdoor seating. But make sure you take advantage of their complimentary bug repellent spray. Otherwise you'll be eaten alive by mosquitoes while you're dining.

Counting House is a stylish restaurant located in the 21c Museum Hotel, offering a creative take on regional American cuisine and an impressive cocktail selection. The restaurant boasts a dramatic interior with high ceilings, large windows, and unique art installations. The menu features expertly prepared local seafood and regional specialties like Carolina rice salad and shrimp and grits. Guests can also enjoy after-dinner cocktails inside the historic bank vault downstairs.
This was our first visit and we were a party of four. The food was very, very good and the service was excellent also. We had Japanese milk bread and.Goujon For appetizers, two of us had the Cavatelli, One of us had the pan chicken and the other, the pan roasted bone in pork chops. All of them are excellent. I would only add that I wish the descriptions of the dishes were more complete with translations on some of the names. I realize that asking the waiter is appropriate and they like to describe them, but it’s easier to choose when you see it in writing. For example, it would’ve been nice to know that the cavatelli was black and made with black squid ink pasta. A very enjoyable dinner and we will return.

Had Mother’s Day brunch there with the family. The pancakes were amazing and so was the burger. I got the smoked salmon to go along with my French omelet and both were so good!

We had a flawless dinner experience! Highly recommend. The tomato and peach salad was like nothing I’ve ever had- my husband and I both loved it! The Japanese milk bread was fantastic! Chef Melanie Wilkerson is very clever and uses high quality, fresh ingredients. The drinks were excellent! I had the “who rule the world” cocktail, yum!! The staff were very attentive and friendly! Will definitely return! We also returned for breakfast. The egg white frittata was delicious! The pancakes were perfect! Love love love this place!

We had a private room of 10 with the most fun and professional server, Pip! Pip explained all the dishes in great detail and we ordered her suggestions! We started with the Japanese Honey buns and then the chargrilled oysters! Both perfection!😍 Then our table had absolutely NO Complaints of their entrees of gnocchi, pork schnitzel, rib eyes, tomato-peach salad (fresh and divine) and Black Forest cake and lemon curd cheesecake! All was fabulous and the atmosphere was sophisticated and cozy! Our favorite restaurant so far while we were touring the area! 🤩😍

Counting House is my favorite go to place for yummy food, relaxed environment and a no rush feel. The art gallery vibe is a bonus, the waiters and waitresses are inviting and it's a place where I love to go to relax, eat and drink. Love the pink penguin, such a vibe and feels like it brings good energy. The pound cake was so freaking good, honestly, all of the desserts were great. The chicken finger things were awesome, they've been stepping up their game and it's paying off.

Came here for a business dinner. Food is delicious, a bit hard to find as it's inside the 21c hotel. Drinks are tasty as well.

Tried smoked salmon bagel for brunch. VERY disappointed. Looked like the cook ran next door to Brugels Bakery then fried the salmon on the flattop grille. Not good at all Virtually no atmosphere we we ate around 12:30. Server was acting as hostess, waitress, cashier and busboy all at the same time. Dinner may be different but brunch? Not good

Brigs at The Park, located in Durham, NC is a popular breakfast restaurant serving all of your favorite comfort foods such as sandwiches and breakfast items. With four stars out of 204 reviews on Yelp, the affordable spot has been remarked upon by many Yelpers.
I got a take out order of the crab cake basket with grits and scrambled eggs. The eggs were very fluffy and cheesy. The grits were very buttery and had the perfect consistency. Loved the lemon aïoli. It had a lemon fresh taste to it that complemented the crab cake wonderfully. The crap cake was light seared on both sides with a light, but delicious breading. Everything was so good, I was humming while I ate. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others. The owner is awesome!

This place gets busy on Sunday afternoon, so expect a 20-30 minute wait. Everyone was very friendly though, and the service was pretty quick. We came for the Stuffed French Toast after seeing it, and it was good, but not as good as we were expecting. The omelet was really good, and the home fries too. Overall it was a good experience, and the food wasn’t bad.

A friend and I decided to try here for brunch today. The wait was about 25 mins and the check-in process was seamless. The hostess was pleasant and our waitress was nice also. The food came out quick and was hot and flavorful. The hot chocolate was delicious! I would definitely revisit this location to try their other selections.

One of the best breakfast I had in a long time. I was told the wait would be 10 minutes, but I was seated within a minute. We ordered right away, and because they were busy, I took my phone out to catch up on the news. Before I finished the first article, our food was here, maybe 4 minute, hot and very good. I will be back because they have so much on the menu. My server Santa was the best also, making sure out glasses remained full. They really deserve a higher grade then 5 stars. All around excellent food, atmosphere, and very friendly.

The food was absolutely amazing. The server, Sammy, was even better. She was patient, attentive and answered all our questions. And trust me when I say we had a lot of questions. The food came out in like 10-15 minutes and it was hot. The food was soooo good. It was our first time there and will definitely not be our last. 10/10

We came by at what would be brunch time. There was no wait for a table and our order was taken quickly. My spouse got the eggs Benedict. The eggs were nicely poached, but she felt the hollendaise could have had better flavor. I had a reuben sandwich that was pretty good and some sweet potato fries that were good too. The service was friendly and we were checked on often enough.

Live music venue
Restaurant
The Blue Note Grill is a bustling establishment known for its hickory-smoked BBQ, cocktails, and regular American roots music sets. It's a family-owned joint that has been recognized as the 'best place to hear blues music' by Indy Week. The restaurant offers daily drink specials and ample outdoor seating where patrons can savor slow-smoked ribs while enjoying live music. Additionally, it's renowned for its chocolate lava cake.
Went to the Blue Note for the first time after a friend gave me some tickets. We moved here from another Southern state to be near the kids and have not found a place frequented by people like us, our age and political leaning. This might be it. My wife loved the music and the vibe was chill. We’ll be back for sure. Nice servers. Easy bathroom. Right in the heart of downtown.

** Long Post Alert** As a Durham native this was my first time to the Blue Note Grill. I have always seen it so busy and thought that I would try a local restaurant with my family. Well last Wednesday, I see that all of the hype must be for the open mics and live music, because it sure can't be about the food. In all honesty this was the saddest dinner I have had in a very long time. Because we did not want to attend open mic we sat in the dinning room which was great, but our table was dirty. We ended up ordering the cheesesteak egg rolls (3/5) and deviled eggs (3/5) for appetizers. The eggs were okay, however it was disappointing that there was no cheesesteak in the egg rolls, but instead chunky hamburger meat. As an entree we ordered shrimp po boy (2/5), shrimp basket (2/5), and I the pulled chicken plate with baked beans and mac & cheese. It took about 15 minutes for the food to come out and I was disappointed. My pulled chicken did not look like the pictures or pulled chicken. Instead it was chicken rib meat. After our waitress explained they had mad changes recently, I sent it back and got the pulled pork bbq sandwich instead. The shrimp on the po boy and in the basket barely had flavor. Not to mention the breading kept falling off the shrimp. For this to be a bbq joint my pulled pork didn't taste like it was made with love. It barely had any smoke flavor, it was a little on the dry side and my cole slaw was heavy on the celery seed. The cole slaw in the shrimp basket on the other hand was not edible at all. We won't even talk about the hushpuppies. The only thing we enjoyed was the french fries. The quality of the food needs to be way better.

First i want to say thank y’all for being patient with me as i was 10 mins late picking up my order. 2nd I’d like to say although the online menu is not updated they understood what i wanted and made great accommodations for a great price. 3rd the food was exceptional way better than Wilson BBQ and yes i drove an hour, but it was worth it, this was for my co-workers last day with us at Duke and yall definitely delivered, thank you to Jeremy who was nice enough to carry the big box to my car for me and tell him Yes WE WILL BE BACK!!!! I got 2 full slabs of ribs, 1 pound of pulled chicken, 1 pound of pulled pork, greens, Mac, baked beans and 2 dozen hush puppies and 2 quarts of sauce with a Gallon sweet tea

I went for a "Blues competition". It was really nice. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was friendly, and the competition was a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I did not know about the Blue Note Grill until Sunday and would definitely recommend the place to people who love the blues and live music nightly. The management is also nice and accommodating.

Awesome date night! William was absolutely fantastic as our server! Food? Spectacular! Drinks? Great! Music? Jamie McLean Band? So much fun! Interactions with crowd! Everyone up and dancing! Great jams! Would love for the drummer to have his own solo! Age range... All ages. Just a great night!
Kris G — Google review
We came here for the music but enjoyed the food as well. We sat at a high top in the bar which made for great viewing and listening to the band. The show was fantastic. The bartender was our server and he was a bit overwhelmed as they had a large group there. One of the mangers joined in to help. The wings were smokey and good. I had a chicken sandwich which was average. My husband had a hamburger which he really enjoyed. We plan to return to see another show and have dinner.
Michelle M — Google review
We visited the smaller dining room, we could hear the joy of those who attended the music venue, and see it briefly in an excursion to the toilets. The atmosphere was great. The service personnel was very courteous and professional. All good. The food was good. Having grown up in Argentina, I'm very demanding when it comes to grilled meats. I believe that in comparison with American BBQ, it was good but not the best, maybe it was my selection. Then again, compared to other local venues, it comes on top. So, if you made this far in my review, I suggest you try it, the stars are my opinion and four is better than good. I will come back for the music, I'm sure that will influence the food experience as well.
Mario B — Google review
I placed my order through DoorDash. The fried okra was amazing! I also ordered a black bean burger. The sandwich was spicy and tasted nothing like a burger. I could overlook that, but my order was wrong. I paid extra for bacon, which was left off, and didn't order tomatoes, which were added. There also wasn't any ketchup as requested. Perhaps ordering in person would be better, but I don't recommend online delivery.

If you're new here it can be overwhelming to come in, look at a menu quickly, and have to order at a counter. The staff at the counter were ok but not very welcoming. The food came out decently quick for a early breakfast. Everything was made to order and arrived hot. The table cakes were quite large but mediocre quality. The French toast was very good, and the best thing we had. The rest of our meal was very average and not worth the price we paid for it.

Andrea with Offline - Went right after they opened on Sunday morning for breakfast! You order at the counter, get a number, and then find a seat — I actually really like this setup since it lets you just relax and enjoy your food once it’s ready. We tried the açaí bowl, bagel with cream cheese, and the Hangover Cure sandwich. Everything came out super fast and tasted incredibly fresh! The place started filling up quickly by around 9 AM, so it’s clearly a local favorite. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

Nice little place with seating, plenty of space, ok coffee, good wifi, nice staff. Downside, they are cleaning the tables and windows all day, which is good, but the strong chemicals they use make the place smell like a YMCA pool (lots of chlorine) - maybe do that type of cleaning after hours, and just wipe down the tables with soapy water during open hours. The food is also bland and watery. Would not come to eat here, but not bad for a coffee and remote work.

We love Bull and Bean! It’s a great spot for brunch on the weekends. Every seasonal oat milk latte I’ve had there has been delicious, and I love being able to get a smoked salmon meal! NZINGAS KITCHEN in Durham offers a delightful brunch experience with a diverse selection of dishes. From the best French toast to crispy fried fish, there's something for every brunch lover. The chicken and waffle combo is a must-try, and the shrimp and grits are phenomenal. The portion sizes are generous, ensuring you'll leave satisfied. The friendly and efficient service adds to the overall dining experience.
The chicken tenders were juicy and perfectly crispy! The fish sandwich had more filets than I could eat. It was flavorful and flaky. We tried to finish it all, but had to take it home. The fries are just like ones you get at the ball park! The food was amazing! We can't wait to try the French toast on our next visit. It's a hidden gem! Definitely gonna recommend to all our friends. Sorry for taking pictures halfway through. It looked so good we couldn't help ourselves.

I have been wanting to try this spot since moving to the area. I finally had the chance today and was pleased. I was greeted immediately upon entry by a nice man, who even asked if it was my first time and provided instructions on how to order. He was very welcoming! I then placed my order with another man who was also nice. He came to check on me and even offered a sample of their version of cabbage, made with spices from his home country of Zimbabwe. I appreciated that especially since the cabbage was vegan and tasty! I decided to get the shrimp and grits, a side of eggs with cheddar and a strawberry lemonade. The eggs were scrambled well, hot and exactly how I like them. The shrimp and grits were hot, seasoned well, and the perfect consistency. The lemonade was delicious also. If I had to leave one critique I would omit the additional season salt sprinkled atop the shrimp. It made the dish a bit more salty than I like but without it, chef's kiss! The restaurant itself was clean, had afobeats playing and an overall great atmosphere. I would definitely be back to try their other selections because their soul food looks delicious also!

I'm so sad I have lived in Durham all these years and never ate here before. The food was PHENOMENAL! Sometimes good food is salty food, NOT HERE! Flavor on top of flavor, spices and seasonings ...DELISH! The food is made to order so it is fresh and hot when you receive it. And the plate is FULL; there will be leftovers. Their customer service goes above and beyond. They love their customers and they want you to know it. I will be back!
Shelita B — Google review
My daughter and I came here for breakfast. The vibe in this place is so chill. The music will have you dancing and eating all at the same time. The gentleman that helped us with our order was so nice. He went above and beyond for us. 10 out 10 highly recommend!! We will be back!!
Nadia P — Google review
This establishment serves up a satisfying fare at an attractive price point. I highly recommend the chicken and fish plate, where the chicken tenders stand out with their irresistible crunch and juicy interior. The whiting fish, while flavorful, could benefit from a crispier exterior. The shrimp and yams are also a solid choice. The house-made lemonade tends towards the sweeter side, so consider diluting it with water. While the Oreo banana pudding is enjoyable, the lack of real bananas detracts from the experience. In conclusion, this spot delivers delicious, budget-friendly meals that satisfy you.
Patrick S — Google review
Stopped by for brunch on a Saturday afternoon (7/5/25 around 11:30) and we're blown away by our experience. Stylz, the chef, was super friendly and cooked up two incredible dishes. We ordered the French Toast Combo with scrambled eggs/pork bacon and the Creole Shrimp and Grits (cheesy) OMG. 5/5 stars. Great music/vibe and the food came out quickly. A must-visit spot in Durham.
Stephanie B — Google review
Wow. Where do I even begin? The food was beyond incredible. It was truly some of the most delicious and soulful food I have ever had. They'll serve you the kind of meals that you'll remember for a long, long time. If you're looking for amazing Southern/Soul food classics, this is the place for you. The hushpuppies are a must-try, as is their hot honey fried chicken on waffles and their shrimp and grits + strawberry lemonade. Get the peaches and cream topping addition with the waffle for an out of this world flavor combo! The staff is also incredibly lovely, hardworking, and considerate. Numerous people came up to us and made sure we were enjoying our meals, checking to see if we needed anything, and even offering advice on side condiments to add to elevate our dishes. I can't recommend this place enough!
Olivia H — Google review
We came on a Saturday morning and got the Fish and Grits. Honestly it was the best fried fish I have ever eaten. It was flavorful and crunchy without excessive breading and the inside was moist and steamy- not greasy. The creole grits had excellent spices and flavor. The homemade strawberry lemonade was delicious, so we got seconds. Here's the best part: everyone coming through the door to get a pickup order received a comment from the cook. "How's your momma? I saw your brother yesterday!" That sort of thing. He knew everyone and knew them well. This restaurant is clearly an institution in this neighborhood and that is props in and of itself. The book selection couldn't have been more diverse and the poet's quote on the wall fit the place perfectly. When you go on road trips for great experiences, you pray you find a place like this.

Fonda Lupita, a renowned restaurant with locations in Sanford and Durham's Brightleaf Square, has garnered national acclaim for its international flavors. The restaurant is praised for its delicious food, including the popular quesabirria tacos and flavorful pork and beef options. The vibrant atmosphere, complete with colorful decor and ample seating, adds to the overall dining experience. Visitors also appreciate the friendly service and lively ambiance reminiscent of California's entertainment scene.
The staff is really nice. The food is so flavourful! The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I do wish there were labels on the condiments so that I know how hot the salsas are. The place is clean and it was a very enjoyable place. I got the Menudo, Birria De Res, and Sweet Iced Tea.

The restaurant was clean and had a nice bar. Plenty of seating. You order at a counter and the food is brought to you quickly. I was not impressed with the food I ordered. The corn tortilla did not seem to be cooked thoroughly. I would try this place again, but order something different.

The restaurant is clean and located inside Brightleaf Square. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I have never been and heard about the hype from the Sanford location so wanted to check it out. We tried a variety of items to-go and I enjoyed the food. My favorite item was actually the dessert- the apple churro! Get that! We also tried the burrito, chimichurri , tacos and quesabirria. The cantaloupe juice was also very refreshing. They have a bar with salsas and toppings. The food was made fresh and with a smile and I would seriously go back for the churros.

Fonda Lupita has officially become one of our favorite spots! Last week my fiancé and I tried the birria grilled cheese for delivery, and it was so good we had to come in person this week — and it did not disappoint. The birria is packed with flavor, and the consomé is so rich and delicious I could honestly drink it. Our oldest had a quesadilla with rice, and our younger son had the kids quesadilla with rice and beans — both plates were fresh, tasty, and gone in no time. You can taste the love and care in every bite. Whether you’re ordering in or dining at the restaurant, the food is consistently amazing. We’ll definitely be back again (and again)!
