Restaurant
Dame's Chicken & Waffles is a laid-back eatery that offers a variety of classic and unique waffle combinations, including vegan, sweet potato, and gingerbread options. The restaurant is renowned for serving some of the best fried chicken in the city.
Good place to eat comfort food. Chelsea is an amazing server. Clear to the point, super sweet and has great charisma. Food: Chicken was delicious. Great flavor and cook. The breading on the chicken was perfect crunch. Nice and succulent. Waffle is okay, not my favorite as I prefer a lighter batter. They a variety of smears and drizzles for your waffle and chicken to help enhance the flavor. Customize to your hearts desire. Mac n cheese had a nice herbal seasoning in it. Greens were solid. Beer options limited but I did enjoy my Italian Pilsner. Try their lemonade and tea. Paid street parking is available and there is a lot as well where you can validate your ticket. Interior pays homage to jazz with the greats.

4/29/25 11am 3 women, it was my mom’s birthday. At first the waitress was cool a little short with us but nice. We ordered chicken and waffles. Three plates of chicken was dry and warm after we waited 20 minutes. I call over the waitress and she played dumb like she didn’t understand. She did take the chicken back I asked her to send the manager. She said she’ll take care of it. It was literally 2 tables of customers. She comes back and say the manager said even if he takes the chicken back it will come out looking the same. SOOO we finished our other items we ordered and long behold a new table of customers got light golden chicken. The cooks In the back was all looking at us and having side conversation. I called the waitress over and asked her how come out chicken don’t look like the other tables. She just stared and said idk.
Love S — Google review
Flavorful chicken and waffles - loved the peach/apricot butter. Our sides - collard greens, mac & cheese, and squash were good. Salmon was okay but overcooked and burned on each end. I realize that chicken and waffles is the specialty, but if something else is on the menu, it should be good, too. Chelsea was our attentive server. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we waited three minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Chelsea noticed us and ask the host to seat us, so we were fortunate to have her as our server.
Debra Q — Google review
The food was good. We used to go to the old place and this was our first time at the new place. The atmosphere and vibe were great. The waffles were still good. The chicken was really good even though the spices were changed somewhat but not always for the best in my opinion. Nonetheless, the chicken was good. It’s a great place to visit to celebrate a family milestone like a graduation, birthday or anniversary. Food prices are on the high end but worth it.
Monica C — Google review
These people refried chicken that someone else didn't want and reheated a waffle that was rubbery. Food came out fast as 3 mins after ordering it. Im sitting here sick now. I just left yesterday. Instead of the waitress letting manager know I wasn't satisfied she didn't say nothing about it to them but kept asking if I want a takeout box. That's nasty. Won't go there anymore
Jazmyne M — Google review
Dame’s Chicken & Waffles used to be one of my favorite places to eat, but recently my experiences with both the food and customer service have been disappointing. I don’t usually leave reviews, but I felt it was important to share my experience because we all work hard for our money and deserve good quality food—especially at these prices. I always order the same thing when I visit, typically choosing cutlets over legs. I often bring family here when they’re in town because I love their food. This time, however, I was served legs instead of cutlets. At first, I thought maybe my friend got the legs by mistake, but then I noticed the quality of the chicken was really poor. It looked extremely old—there’s no way it should have been served. I usually get mac and cheese as my side, but this time the flavor was off. It tasted like it had too much pepper and Italian seasoning, which was not the usual flavor I enjoy. I called the restaurant to address the issue, and the manager, Chelsey, seemed a bit defensive and said they never sold cutlets with my order—only legs. To confirm, I checked with others who ordered the same meal, including my dad, who also received cutlets. Chelsey offered to replace the chicken the next day if I brought it back, which seemed unusual and a bit unsanitary. I did return the chicken and received a fresh replacement, after waiting about 10-15min to speak to the manger which was nice and understanding. But unfortunately, it was tough, chewy, and overcooked. I’m really disappointed and don’t think I’ll be coming back. In the past, I gave the benefit of the doubt to the staff, thinking maybe they were just having a bad day or consider the food could have been rushed because they’re usually very busy. But this experience was the last straw for me.
Tyrell B — Google review
It took 20min for our order to be taken, another 20min for our drinks to arrive, yet another 35min for food (almost an hour between ordering/receiving), and the overpriced food was mediocre at best. The chicken was decent but greasy, the incredibly bland/boring waffles were soggy and undercooked in the middle, and the "scrambled eggs" came out fried with rock-hard yolks. They were also out of half their shmears and refused to sub grits for any other side for someone who doesn't eat grits. Finally, the new location is super sketchy, the building is so loud that you can't hear yourself think, and it's challenging to find parking... Will NOT be back.
Greg — Google review
I will no longer be eating from any of the Dame’s locations. This restaurant used to serve great food with solid service. Now, every time I order take out the order is wrong. Today they forgot my drizzle, gave the wrong shmear, the chicken was overdone, and the Mac and cheese is burnt, nevermind the fact that the food wasn’t even started at the time that I arrived at pickup. This is not the quality of food or service that made Dame’s a Durham staple, and I have given them enough chances to correct this issue. I do not recommend going there anymore

Sandwich shop
Fast food restaurant
King's Sandwich Shop is a legendary walk-up burger stand in Durham, serving up mouthwatering sandwiches, hot dogs, and hand-dipped milkshakes since 1942. It has become a go-to spot for locals seeking comforting, stress-relieving food. The menu features famous griddled burgers with King's sauce, all-dressed hot dogs, and piping hot crinkle-cut fries.
Oh my days! I was headed to a brewery/burgee spot in Durham when Kings popped up on my map and the kid said he would rather try their burger. Thanks kid! Walk up counter style burger. You cannot beat the the value of this burger in Durham. HUGE patty, thick melty cheese, plenty of toppings. Single burger of this size for under $10 is hard to find these days. (Great for hungry kids) Next time I'll try the Philly. All they need is BEER! If you're a burger hound, this is a must stop
Max W — Google review
Overrated. Simple food, terrible service. Ordered two burgers, hot dog, and fries. There were only a handful of other customers and after I waited for 20 minutes and watched people who came after me get their food, I finally got a staff member to acknowledge they forgot about my order and had to re-do it. Took another 15 minutes and additional reminders to get my food while staff sat around and did nothing. They advertise shakes on the building and their Google Maps posting, yet they don't do shakes anymore. Definitely false advertising. If you want a great shake, stop by The Milkshake Factory instead down the street at the American Tobacco Campus.
Austin D — Google review
Awesome food today. Price was about $18 which I thought was high INITIALLY. But when my food came and I had a box of fries covered with fixings and a huge piece of chicken on my sandwich it immediately was justified. Food was very tasty. Will be back!!
Jermey M — Google review
I came here because someone told me it was the best burger in NC. I can't go as far as to say that but it was a pretty perfect Burger. Big and the ingredients taste great. The meat is well seasoned. The burger is juicy. The house sauce taste great. The fries are firm and well seasoned. I have nothing negative to say. I'll have to come back and try the Phillysteak. 10/10 would reccomend. Definitely the best burger in Durham at least.
Cj B — Google review
King’s was a great experience. They get thru the busy line of lunch goers pretty quickly. But if you decide to come during lunch, expect a decent crowd. The menu has the spectrum of grill foods- though when I went they didn’t have some items in stock (Pulled pork sandwich). It didn’t bother me as the server recommended a host of other items. I settled for the Philly cheese steak with some onion rings on the side, my wife opting for a single patty burger and tater tots. Both were really good. I was impressed by the tots being so crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The onion rings are the battered versions, they are smooth on the outside and have a great crunch, the onion also doesn’t get pulled out which means it’s not over cooked. Burger and Philly cheese steak tasted good, nothing special to note but it hit the spot! They had a picnic table area to eat, it might be limited during lunch due to the number of people but maybe you can ask to split the bench.
Justin L — Google review
I was so excited to hear that they had vegetarian options because ya girl likes to eat. I ordered the Veggie Philly with a side of onion rings. I will say, I am also tired of having to pay extra for veggie options when the regular meat options are ways cheaper, but I digress. I feel for the amount I paid for the onion rings and what I got did not match, but the sandwich was GOODT, OKAY! It was very tasty. The bread was soft, the veggies were flavorful, and make sure to ask for the spicy mustard I added that to mine (it's not spicy at all). Now, I was expecting them to have a thin sliced veggie alternative but honestly, I think they just broke up a beyond patty and put it in a bun. I also asked before ordering did the veggie come with everything that the regular one did and it didn’t. The cheese was different from mine. All in all I would definitely go back and recommend that you check it out.
Alexis L — Google review
ALWAYS great food, people, and service. Burgers are always juicy, onions and jalapeños always seem to be super fresh. Fries are great, the hot dogs you can't go wrong with, and the hidden gems like the Philly are something you'd want to make sure you get!
Harvey W — Google review
Been to this place twice and ordered the chicken Philly. You can't really beat the price in this area. The food was quite good and the employees were kind. If your looking for a decent bite to eat, don't pass this up.

Ethiopian restaurant
Restaurant
Goorsha offers traditional Ethiopian cuisine in a casual setting, featuring dishes like sambusa, kekel, and spicy vegan stews. The restaurant's focus on healthy vegetarian and vegan options is evident in its staple injera bread made with teff flour. The vegan platter allows diners to choose from a variety of flavorful options cooked with traditional Ethiopian spices.
It’s an amazing feeling when you come in a place for the first time and being embraced like you been here a thousand times before. They are welcoming, the menu has many options, reasonably priced and they are very attentive. Had a goof conversation with the waiter he brought me back to Africa by trying some authentic African cuisine. I enjoyed the experience and would definitely come back
Proud Y — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Goorsha is a gem in Durham for Ethiopian cuisine! The ambiance is modern yet cozy, and the staff were super friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We ordered the Goorsha Signature Combo, and it was delicious—rich flavors, perfectly spiced stews, and soft, tangy injera that tied it all together. The lentils and shiro really stood out, and the portion sizes were generous. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that service was a bit on the slow side, especially for drinks, but the food made up for it. Great spot whether you’re new to Ethiopian food or a longtime fan. Will definitely be back!
Al — Google review
Came for lunch with a coworker, and we're waited on by the owner, Fasil. Such a genuinely nice guy, and you could absolutely see the pride he had for us to be his customers. There aren't many places you can go and encounter the actual owner AND their appreciation for your business. We started with Sambusas and Deko sauce. Savory and simple, but the Deko was an incredible touch. I had the Zilzil Alecha, and it was absolutely tender, savory, and decadent. I'm not even sure what my coworker got, but we both were absolutely satisfied with the app and lunch. Will definitely be back! I've been wanting to get Ethiopian for the longest time, and I am NOT disappointed. Amazing!
Darren S — Google review
B: the food tasted fresh and the portions were great. The beef was so tender that it felt buttery when you picked it up. It was my first time trying Ethiopian food and was pleasantly surprised with the spice similarities to my own culture! The environment was very welcoming and the staff were attentive.
Craving F — Google review
Been meaning to come to this place for a decade but I finally made it!!!! It's really good! Personally I prefer the vegetarian option where you can choose 3 different stuff. Though the wrap is thinner than I am usually used to. Definitely get the Sambusa!!! Overall, still recommended!
John L — Google review
Great food. Mango Frescas are so good. The Kasheka is a must have. It's delicious. I had the Zilzil Alecha and it was very flavorful. I enjoyed it a lot. My friend got the Doro Tibs, which is also good. That dish is spicy. The Beet salad for our side was good as well.
Cindy C — Google review
The portions are incredibly small for what you pay. Ordered Doro Wat, and it came with a singular chicken leg, one boiled egg, and the rest in sauce. With tax and tip it comes out to well over $25 per person. Imagine eating one chicken leg and one egg when you order an entree for dinner. Vegan entrees were a little better, but still the main dish to injera ratio is way skewed to just eating bread to fill up. Don’t even get apps, literally one bite for $10. The food tastes great. Every bite is delicious. But I can’t stress how terrible the portion sizes are at this place for what you pay. Service is slow as well, no one came to check in on the diners, they clearly have their favorite customers. No water refills. Other tables have to ask for refills. Had to ask the servers for a check. Overall one of the lackluster Ethiopian restaurants I’ve been to. This place is way overhyped on Eater and other restaurant guides online. Only saving grace is that they’re the only Ethiopian joint in the area.
Joe Y — Google review
I love the food. It’s always good! I honestly very unsatisfied with the portions for the price that’s asked for. Each time I went the portions got smaller and smaller. This time I ask to have the food without the injeria and I figured they may give me more portions, but no. For $19 and this little amount of food, I’m still hungry :( I love this place but the portions are very sad! I hope you all look into it more!

Seafood restaurant
Saltbox Seafood Joint is a popular counter-serve spot that originated from a roadside shack, offering local and seasonal seafood. The place is known for its lightly fried and incredibly fresh seafood served on humble rolls, such as North Carolina striped mullet and king mackerel. Customers can also enjoy honey-drizzled hush puppies, house tea, and a lemon punch combo drink at the picnic tables out front.
This place is an indefinite 10 in my book. The customer service was great, the cashier, Tavion, made some great recommendations and was super personable and polite. Based on Customer Service alone, I would have come back. I happen to see this restaurant on a TikTok video and decided to try it out with my son after a track meet we were at got rained out. We got the catfish, the fried shrimp, the crispy potatoes, the honey hush puppies, and the collard greens. Everything was delicious. The catfish was delicate and flavorful, the shrimp were crispy and juicy, the honey hush puppies were the perfect combination of sweet and savory, the crispy potatoes were delicious, and I loved the peppers and onions in them, the tartar sauce, and the cocktail sauce were not your run of the mill versions and we’re so flavorful and delicious, and the greens were a home run. The aesthetic for the restaurant was very on team for the type of food they served and it was super clean inside and had a good size parking lot. When we came in there was no wait but quickly thereafter the line piled up and I can see why. If I had to give any criticism I would say I wasn’t a fan of the sweet tea, but wasn’t a big deal for me at all because I was able to grab a fountain drink instead so honestly not an issue for me at all. I’ve already recommended this place to several people and it’s only been about four hours since us being there. The next time we are in Durham, we will definitely be making another stop to try some other menu items and I can’t wait! I really want to thank this restaurant for such great food and service. I feel like the combination is that times a rarity when eating out so it was much appreciated.
Ashieana W — Google review
I’ve had Saltbox on my list for a while, and finally made a trip to Durham to try it, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We ordered the crab cakes with crispy potatoes, the spicy mahi sandwich, an order of hush-honeys, plus drinks: Uncle Waithley’s ginger beer and an Arnold Palmer. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You can really tell that all the sauces and sides are made from scratch—it elevates the entire meal. The crab cakes were tender and perfectly seasoned, the sandwich had just the right amount of heat, and those hush-honeys were the kind of sweet-savory bite you dream about later. The atmosphere sealed the experience for me. They had blues playing in the background, which gave it that warm, soulful vibe that just fits. I also loved seeing Uncle Waithley’s (a Black-owned brand) as a beverage option: it shows intention and community in the details. If you’ve been eyeing Saltbox like I was, make the trip. It’s one of those restaurants that not only delivers on flavor but also feels good to support. I’ll definitely be back.

A piece of the ocean in the middle of Durham! What a treat to have fresh seafood made to order in this restaurant. Counter service ordering, then sit inside or out. The portions at lunch were plentiful, filling the paper take out boxes that all customers get, as well as our appetites.
David D — Google review
Our friends took us here on Friday and it was beyond anything I had imagined. As soon as you park, you get the smell of fresh seafood, like you have arrived at the local beach. The building is small, shack like. When we opened the doors, there was a line and limited seating. The crowd was lively and full of locals acting like they didn’t want their secret to get out. They have a chalkboard menu that changes daily to reflect the local catch from the North Carolina waters. Food includes: shrimp, muscles, flounder, grouper, mahi, soft shell crab, oysters and catfish. I ordered the spicy mahi roll and it was amazing: from the Aroma, taste, crunch from the coleslaw. It perfectly hit the spot. Chef Ricky Moore opened this spot in 2012. He graduated CIA school and was also a cook in the army. This place has been featured in Southern Living Magazine and won a James Beard award in 2022. DO NOT MISS THIS SPOT NEXT TIME YOU ARE IN DURHAM!
Andrew R — Google review
Phenomenal food and service. We loved our rolls (one shrimp and one grouper). The side of Brussels was also delicious. There are no words for how good the coleslaw is… and beautiful to boot!
Elizabeth C — Google review
The BEAUTIFULLY seasoned and cooked fried potato side was worth the price of admission! They weren’t just salted but SEASONED! The cole slaw and collard greens tasted like a person actually cooked them. No typical “straight out the can” predictably (non) flavored side dishes. My tongue was happy. But the catfish! THANK YOU, Chef Ricky and crew. When fish tastes good even without hot sauce, that’s GOOD!

Diner
Breakfast restaurant
Restaurant
Elmo's Diner is a quintessential American diner that captures the essence of comfort and community. With its cozy booths and welcoming atmosphere, it's the perfect spot for breakfast lovers since they serve it all day long. This locally owned gem has become a favorite among Duke students and Durham families, thanks to its friendly service and extensive menu that caters to everyone, including vegetarians.
I had a wonderful experience at Elmo's Diner! I tried the pancakes along with a plain omelette filled with turkey soy and American cheddar cheese, and I couldn't be happier with my choices. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious, perfectly sweetened and served hot. The omelette was cooked just right, with the turkey soy adding a nice savory flavor, complemented beautifully by the melted American cheddar. I also ordered the apple cinnamon on the side, which was a delightful touch—sweet and spiced, it paired perfectly with the pancakes. The diner has a cozy atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend Elmo's Diner for a tasty breakfast or brunch!
Emad S — Google review
An old school diner vibe which was cool but the food lacks flavor. Nothing we ate had any seasoning. The service was the best part of our meal. Our waiter was great and the hostess was super friendly. Great people, but I would not return here.
Kay — Google review
I’m a plant based eater. This place came up when I searched “vegan options near me” in google maps. By the way, that search is great when the party is part carnivore and part plant based (as ours was). Upon being seated (approximately 15 minutes, not bad for a Sunday morning), I looked through the menu and was concerned I wouldn’t have any food options. When the wait staff member arrived, I asked about vegan options. I was delighted when she said” let me go get the special menu.” The special menu was a regular menu but all the vegan options were highlighted in pink and veggie options highlighted in another color. WHAT AN AWESOME IDEA! The place really met the needs of our diverse group. I’m a really big fan of the wait staff introducing themselves. Sadly, that didn’t happen. Other than that, it was a great experience. Additional note, by the time we left at around 10:15 on a Sunday, the wait looked huge. The line was out the door and around the corner. Arrive early or be prepared to wait if it’s Sunday.
Bill W — Google review
The menu has excellent and very varied selection. We ordered the veggie burger and fiesta bowl. Both dishes tasted excellent. Staff is courteous and polite.
Ankur K — Google review
I was searching for best places to have breakfast & pancakes near Chapel Hill as it's my young daughter birthday. The experience was not good, she did not like her french toast, their special sweet potato pancake was below regular and nothing special about it, and the vegetarian omelet was below standard compared to other places we visited, the veggies were not cooked well and no spices or flavor, just plain taste. I would not for sure return to the restaurant again as our experience was far from expectation and there are other places in town that are much better and very close.

We eat here 1 to 2 x wk for breakfast. We eat a variety of food. Always good. Fresh.Hot. Comes out quick. My friend says best coffee in town. Omelets & quiche always great. Service is excellent. Atmosphere relaxing. Always a great meal !

Barbecue restaurant
Restaurant
The Original Q Shack is a popular spot in Durham known for its Western Carolina- and Texas-style BBQ, all smoked in-house. The restaurant offers a variety of barbecue options, including pulled pork, ribs, smoked sausage, and chicken. The meats are slow-cooked over hardwoods to create a rich and smoky flavor that has garnered high praise from patrons. The no-frills setting with outdoor tables adds to the authentic BBQ experience.
I had the turkey sandwich. It had a nice smoke flavor. The sauce was good. I will pleasantly surprised by the sides. They were just as good as the Sandwich. I didn't feel the BBQ was any different than other cities I visit. I would eat here again.

Overall Score: 6.9/10 – A busy BBQ spot with great value, smooth service, and a unique, casual atmosphere. The menu features some standout items and offers fair pricing across the board, making it a worthwhile stop for BBQ lovers. Atmosphere and Service: 6.7/10 – The place gets packed quickly, which makes parking tight, but the line moved smoothly. It’s a seat-yourself style setup with a laid-back BBQ vibe. Staff seemed friendly, and while the place was a little dirty in areas, it wasn’t too bad. Food came out on time, and the variety on the menu—including unexpected items like meatloaf—added character. Brisket Baked Potato: 7.1/10 – A strong dish with great value. The potato was large and generously topped with sour cream and tender brisket. Very filling and flavorful. Chicken: 6.4/10 – Served as a bone-in breast, this was a juicy and flavorful cut, cooked well. Mac n Cheese: 5.7/10 – A fair-priced and decent side. Nothing fancy, just a solid standard mac. Ribs: 7.6/10 – One of the highlights. Extremely tender with a bold, flavorful seasoning. The meat fell right off the bone and delivered on all expectations.

GREAT FOOD AWESOME SMOKED Q. Sean had the 2 meet combo and could not finish his melt in your mouth smoke brisket and pork ribs. Loved his sides of jack cheese creamed spinach and his collard greens. I had the 2 meat combo pork ribs that were falling off the bone awesome tasty and probably I could use enough adjectives to fully describe their extreme flavors. My second meat was smoked turkey and I had so much I could not eat all that 4 thick slices of moistness. I loved the hush puppy fingers that so good I could eat a bag full by themselves. My sides were that yummy jack cheese creamed spinach and deep fried okra. Both of had 1/2 iced teas. Service was excellent. Wish I lived closer to visit more often. I would recommend to anyone looking for a BBQ place for properly smoked tasty meats.

To set the stage, I felt like North Carolina bbq, but I'm a newbie. I don't even know what a hush puppy is. I decided on this place due to the existing ratings. I picked the 3 meat combo so I could try the options. Ribs. Brisket. Chicken. Sides were creamed spinach and spicy pinto beans. I opted for the leg for the chicken. They cut the meat right in front of you, and brush with some sauce before playing on the tray. I loved the ribs. The brisket was tender and very good with some sauce. The chicken skin was good but I felt the meat itself was a texture I didn't like. I ate the skin. I really liked the creamed spinach, and the beans weren't spicy at first - a slight kick in the back end. And those hush puppies? I really really liked them. I don't normally go for sweetish things but... oh man. I had to get a takeout box.

Been hearing about this place for years. First time eating here. Was somewhat disappointed. I’ve honestly ate better food at city barbecue. The spicy baked beans, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese were all NASTY. Not sure why they give you a whole onion with the brisket. The ribs were good. The banana pudding was okay.
Erika — Google review
I think I like the sides and the chili better than the main course. I think the barbecue could’ve had more flavor. I had the brisket. I tried my friends pork, and I thought I had a lot more flavor. They were out of quite a bit of items by the time we got there, no chicken The barbecue sauce really works just OK.
Marci F — Google review
The four of us got a variety - from deviled eggs to chili to a side salad. All delicious - all I would get again. Seating wasn’t hard to find nor was the wait long for any of our food.

Eating at a good barbecue place is like taking part in a foot race, except you're sitting down and the ribbon at the finish line is you loosening your belt. I'm proud to say I completed the Q shack marathon in first place at my table. I've never felt more American then when I took out my phone for a picture and realized I had already taken a Megalodon-sized bite out my sandwich. Q shack had me feeling right. The staff was super friendly and the food was great. If you're looking for an emergency BBQ meal that's quality and filling, this is your spot.

Barbecue restaurant
Restaurant
Backyard BBQ Pit is a no-frills roadhouse in Durham that has recently undergone major renovations and is back in action. This Black-owned barbecue restaurant has been serving comfort food for the past 18 years, offering old-school BBQ cooked over oak and hickory wood in an outdoor pit. The menu includes pork chops, ribs, oxtails, pot pie, and sides like stewed collards, mac and cheese, slaw, and hushpuppies.
First time here and I will be back. The food was delicious. The working man is a great value and comes with a bbq sandwich and two sides. The Mac and cheese and friend okra was delicious. The pineapple lemonade was legendary! Great bbq. I’m looking forward to trying their other options. The service was great, very clean and nice inside, not much parking though.
Tyler P — Google review
That brisket was melt-in-your-mouth magic — smoky, tender, and worth every second of the wait. The entire meal delivered bold, comforting flavors that scream soul food heaven. And the best part? It won’t break the bank. A hidden gem I’ll absolutely be returning to.
Josselyn S — Google review
So the food is pretty good , the hush puppies. The fish flounder was okay. The brisket is a lot of meat and also the rib is also a lot, so they have some nice sides. If you're looking for barbecues, flounder, catfish, whiting, shrimp, chicken, beef, pork chops, pulled pork and nice type of type of atmosphere, They don't have air conditions so they have fans and ceiling fans so it can be a heat. It's run by African American people and their nice. They can be a little slow when ordering cat fish. They side are yam, corn, cabbage, collard green, fried oreo, slaw, mac cheese, rice, green beans and potato salad. They also have drinks there. They could fit about maybe up to fifteen cars, so parking after that becomes a little scarce
Andre M — Google review
Greatly disappointed with my experience. I walked just over a half mile for good barbecue and all I got was baked ribs and way over cooked pulled pork that was extremely shredded. The ribs were clearly baked and not a lick of smoke or charcoal flavor at all. So why call yourself Backyard Barbecue Pit if it’s gonna be this misleading? The pulled pork, no smoke flavor or pit style flavor and again was just way too shredded, like super stringy. Not meaty at all. The yams were smackin! The Mac n cheese was crazy good! If you want good sides, go there. If you want good barbecue, DONT!
Dominique D — Google review
Not what it used to be - First time back since they re-opened and it is not the same restaurant anymore. I've been avoiding this place for a long time because I feared the worse and now I feel compelled to write this review to let other veteran Backyard BBQ Pit fans considering a visit to know what it is like now. I got a Brisket Plate, Collard Greens, and Mac and Cheese for $20. The brisket I got was more of salty mostly broken bits of hard meat (see the picture). I don’t know how they made it, but it felt so odd texture-wise that it really reminded me of those pre-made brisket packs you get in the refrigerator aisle of the grocery store. I’m not saying that’s where they got it from, I’m just saying what they made feels/tastes similar to that. As far as the collard greens go, they used to be my absolute favorite. I would always get them before they closed and I know them like the back of my hand, but what I was served was not it. Mushy and soaked in grease for some reason? Not stew, but literal grease and no meat in sight to indicate where the grease came from. It was also simultaneously too sweet and too salty. … and the store bought dinner roll to replace hush puppies? I get it, making hush puppies can be tough and you’ve got to switch it up, but the hush puppies here were so good! And now they are gone. The $20 price and smaller portions on top of all of this just felt insulting. You could probably get a better BBQ meal at your kids school lunch. I didn’t finish my meal. Threw it out and had to mouthwash to get the taste out. All of this said, the mac and cheese is good (different, but good) and the new staff is nice, but no amount of elbow noodles and friendly service could make me enjoy this place as it is now. I do hope they make some improvements to the food to get this place back on track.
Brian C — Google review
Best bbq food in Durham. Mac and cheese and the potato salad are legendary. Really great fries and yams too. Meat options are all solid. Some really decent vegetarian sides as well (yams, rice, greens, fries, okra). More of a takeout sorta vibe.
Jared D — Google review
Went at lunchtime , 12:15. We ordered the pulled pork plate and had to wait for the pork to get done. After 20 minutes it finally came. The yams were pretty good. Mac and cheese looks good but it wasn't great. Overall , I'd pass on this place. I'll never eat here again.
Boonie G — Google review
Good food, amazing service and an overall vibe. I heard the place was remodeled, not sure what it looked like BEFORE but the NOW is giving! Couldn’t give it 5 stars because the fried chicken wasn’t working for me, not saying it was bad but just wasn’t working with my taste buds today. However! That Mac and cheese and yams… absolutely 🔥! Oh and that pineapple lemonade was everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I plan to return and try some other things soon, I’ll keep the pics coming!

Monuts is a bustling establishment in Downtown Durham, founded by Lindsay Moriarty and Rob Gillespie. What started as a donut stand near the Durham Farmers Market has evolved into a popular bakery and cafe serving gourmet donuts, house-baked bagels, sandwiches, coffee, and alcoholic beverages.
Not pictured the amazing Apple cider donut I inhaled. It was warm and the cinnamon flavor was out of this world. Small parking lot but easily accessible free street parking in adjacent neighborhoods. Went on a Friday morning and it was busy but the lines moved fast.

Had brunch here on a Saturday morning after hearing a lot of good reviews. I had the All You Avo Wanted Toast, two types of donuts and a Chai latte. The chai was great but the food and donuts were just okay. The service was good but the person at the counter could be more friendly and smiling. My fav part was definitely the tables outside in the shade.

The staff was so welcoming and the establishment is clean and bright. We ordered the chocolate milk, chai chocolate donut, a mocha latte and the rocket fuel burrito. The food is tasty and fresh. Definitely a great breakfast spot!

This place might be my new favorite breakfast spot! My husband and I decided to try this place and loved everything about it! Everything is made fresh and the taste proves it! We loved their story about paying their employees a living wage. We tried a variety of things today and can’t wait to go back! The quiche was so delicious, definitely one of the best I’ve ever had. We tried many different pastries and enjoyed all of the flavors! My mocha topped it all off. The atmosphere is great and the customer service is too! We can’t wait to come back and bring friends.

The food here is good but I’m just SO fed up with the slow service on take out orders. I ordered a to go order at 8:15 am, knowing it would be packed on a weekend, which is fine. The estimated time for pick up was 9:30. Cool. I get there at 9:30 and the FOOD is ready. It’s 10 am and I still haven’t gotten my coffee. My food is getting cold and I can’t wrap my head around why it takes 1.5 hours to make a coffee? I could have eaten in and left by now! So annoying

Monuts is a Durham staple with delicious donuts and pastries, well made coffees, and teas, and a savory spread to meet any craving! We got a variety of donuts, two bagel, breakfast sandwiches, and some lattes. Everything was delicious. Sometimes the parking can be challenging, and the biggest downside would be that it’s very challenging to get a hot donut! But if you can… Yum!

Monuts is an absolute gem in Old West Durham! The cafe is a perfect destination for breakfast, brunch, and lunch; and you can feel good supporting a local business that pays their employees a living wage! The food at Monuts is incredible with a focus on delicious baked goods, inventive sandwiches, and fantastic coffee drinks. Their menu changes on a seasonal and sometimes weekly basis, so it's easy to keep coming back to see what their current offerings are. In addition to sandwiches, you can also enjoy lunch items such as soup, salads, and quiche! Everything is made from scratch, in-house, no pre-made mixes here. if you're visiting on the weekend, come early and be prepared for the crowd, this place gets packed!

Toast is a popular Italian sandwich shop located in Durham, offering a variety of delicious options such as panini, crostini, and more. The sandwiches feature house-cured meats and locally sourced produce, ensuring fresh and high-quality ingredients. Guests can enjoy their meal at outdoor tables while taking in the downtown scenery. Additionally, the restaurant offers convenient options for ordering and payment, including online ordering and pick-up outside the door or car.
My wife and I have been coming here for years. Just had a mutual realization that we've never had a bad meal here. Toast is consistently good because the meals always include quality ingredients. Today, for instance, the broccoli had some kick and the caponata was excellent. Thank you all and hope you keep it up.

The food was great and the atmosphere was enjoyable! This place came highly recommended, but unfortunately the service I received felt notably dismissive. I waited almost 20 minutes for a glass of water after politely asking twice, while guests around me were offered refills without prompting. Seemed like the waitress had some sort of frustration. It’s hard not to feel singled out when the difference in treatment is that apparent. I don’t know what the reason was, but it left a bad taste in an otherwise good lunch :(
A B — Google review
I have seen Toast many of times but didn’t realize they offered a soup/salad/sandwich type of menu until recently. I ordered delivery during peak lunch hours. I had the herb pesto with chicken, a side salad and the brown butter cookies. When my food arrived, surprisingly was still warm. Speaks to the freshness! I appreciated the flavor of the sandwich, found it well balanced. I liked that the salad was not iceberg. Dressing tasted homemade. My only criticism is the cookies: the texture felt stale so they were very underwhelming. Overall I found the food to be yummy and a fair price. Recommended, and would eat here again.

Super delicious panini sandwich shop which a lovely outdoor seating area in the middle of downtown Durham. Good, quick service even during lunch time rush. Great selections of paninis. Staff were super nice. Loved the pesto chicken panini. Solid crunch on the bread without being over-toasted. Toast toasts to perfection.

My absolute favorite place in Durham. Food is delicious, service is great! When I lived downtown it was a weekly staple, and I still make it a habit to eat. Everything on the menu is delicious and fresh. Perfect to eat in or take to go!

Toast has been on my list a very long time. I live in the county and it's harder to get in town during open hours. The perfect opportunity arose to have lunch before taking mom to see Chucago at DPAC. We got the special Crostini with goat cheese and a raspberry jam.. delicious and perfect combo. Mom got a chicken salad sandwich. The chicken salad was fabulous! It is hard to find a chunky version, but theirs has big chunks of chicken with the right amount of mayo. It was not a skimpy serving on the sandwich either which I liked. I got the rapini - sweet Italian sausage, roasted garlic, asiago fresca. Delicious and just the right size and flavors. Mom doesn't really care for sausage and even liked it. It was very busy, but the staff took good care of us as they rushed around to get everyone. I love they have both inside seating and outside. Great place for soup, sandwich or a salad. Give it a try!
Heather H — Google review
This place is awesome in that they use real glassware, silverware, plates and bowls. The venue was clean and trendy with plenty of character and located in the heart of Durham. This is about all of the positive things I can say about Toast to be honest. We went to dine inside. Ordering was done outside prior to entering which is also fine. The gentleman taking the order was not fine. He was condescending to one of our party when she asked a question - he pedantically read the portion of the menu that answered her question and made her embarrassed. He also said to each guest "I assume you are okay to add %20 to your bill to support the servers who bill be serving you".. the tone was such that you didn't know if you should just walk away and leave or be a mouse and say "yes". It was a bad vibe. I ordered the Rapini with Sweet Italian Sausage and a bowl of the white bean soup. While everyone has different tastes, to me the soup tasted like Honeycomb Cereal (I have not eaten Honeycomb cereal for about 40 years but still remember it). A bunch of pepper later and it was "okay". The sandwich, while looking awesome, had large chunks of gristly meat in it that in no way was in the same timezone as "Sweet Italian Sausage". It was genuinely hard to chew and I had to hork those pieces into my mouth and pretend it was something worth eating. In hindsight I should have returned my meal and given clear feedback. This is my fault and a lesson learned for me. TBH, I was concerned it would become a debate with the staff. It is hoped that the leadership at Toast will also listen and learn that snarky or presumptuous staff is an instant "not going back" coupled with food that was far below the expectation.

This cute Paninoteca was really good. The atmosphere was comfy and the decor was calming. You go to the counter and order your food then we got a number for our table and waited to be served. It was clean and the workers were friendly. We waited for our food a little longer then I would have liked but it was fresh and delicious! That’s my 2 cents now you decide.

the best sandwiches in the triangle, hands down. I love no. 11 (egg salad) and no. 22 (turkey and havarti - pictured). they are absolute whoppers and always so fresh and so tasty. the staff are all very lovely and even during the lunch rush the sandwiches are quick to come out.

My wife and I love this place. We bring out of town guests here for the relaxed atmosphere. The food is easy going but done right. We ask for lightly toasted on toasted sandwiches as occasionally they get carried away with the toasting. Watch out for the birds they are waiting for you to turn your head and they are brave. Overall a wonderful place to eat and enjoy downtown Durham.

Cute little sandwich and gift shop. Employees are friendly. The food is great, I like everything I've tried so far and there are a couple of vegetarian options. Gift shop has a variety of knick-knacks, books, and food stuffs. It's all a bit expensive, but I'm sure you could find something for anyone.
Jacky W — Google review
Downtown Durham loves itself a gift store with grocery items. I really wish it was the other way around: A small grocer or bodega with some gift items. Not sure how the plethora of gift stores are more financially sustainable than a small grocery store. How many times have I bought something from Parker and Otis? Probably four times and it never was a scented candle or a quirky cookbook. How many times have I wished for a small grocery that's a quick stroll near my apartment — one of probably 1,000 new apartments clustered close by? Every. Single. Day. People seem to always be scratching their heads about how to make businesses thrive in downtown Durham when there's 80 places to get beer/cocktails and nowhere to get basic food staples. (Bulldega is not conveniently located for all the new construction/apartments.) The going logic is that people want to drive to one of the big box stores for groceries to save $ — while being in complete denial of the constant headaches from terrible drivers and constant traffic jams from car accidents. People pay downtown prices for downtown convenience —  and not only for bars and yoga classes. There's always a steady trickle of people on foot who I am sure, would pay for an overpriced kombucha, bag of chips, or a gallon of milk if they could run out of their apartment and be back in 5-10 minutes.
CH D — Google review
It has been years since I went and this was the first time at their new location. I guess it's fine for those who want to just shop or grab and go. However our group was looking forward to sitting and enjoying our meal together similar to how it was in the old place. Seating is very limited , also while familiar entrees remain, you no longer get the included side options. Also they no longer have the gingerbread type cookies from years ago. I guess that piece of nostalgia is gone.
Rhonda K — Google review
This is the first time I have visited Parker and Otis since they moved from the brightleaf area in Durham to the tobacco campus. I was a little disappointed because the restaurant now seems to only offer a shallow lunch menu rather than more of a variety including breakfast food. I did get a sandwich and had the roast beef on wheat/sourdough with cheese. The sandwich was good and I did enjoy it, but $12 for a sandwich could have got me much more of a meal at other restaurants. Their gift shop is well stocked. There is no indoor seating at the current time, but they seem to be working on a very small area for indoor seating. If you've ever visited the old Parker and otis, this one is definitely not what it used to be.

Only Burger is a beloved food truck turned brick-and-mortar establishment that has gained popularity for its creative and delicious burgers made from locally sourced beef. The restaurant's commitment to serving the perfect burger led to the opening of two additional locations, satisfying the cravings of its loyal customers. Only Burger prides itself on using Certified Piedmontese beef that is free of hormones, antibiotics, and steroids, freshly ground daily, and served on a toasted bun.
Second trip here, and another excellent experience. The food was ready pretty quick, and was absolutely delicious. The Bacon Wrapped Mac & Cheese is awesome (go ahead and get the large, it’s worth it), and the burgers are phenomenal. The first time we went with a small group, and everyone ordered different burgers, and we all left very satisfied. The indoor seating is limited, but there is seating outside available too. You can definitely feel the food truck vibes from their beginnings, and it adds a little to the atmosphere.

Have been here a few times when I’m in the area and they are both fast and delicious 🤤 My burger was ready within 10min of placing my online order and they fried my sweet potato fries when I arrived for pick up so that they would be hot and fresh. I always get my burger lettuce wrapped and they never disappoint with the amount of lettuce used. I was also delighted to find picnic tables just off to the side of the parking lot under the shade of some big trees as well as what looked like a small doggy pen. Would definitely recommend!

I love Only Burger for 2 main reasons: THE FRIED PICKLES ARE THE BEST YOU WILL EVER HAVE and the Frito Bandito burger. the fried pickles are prepared with a breading that is thick and stays intact and crispy better than any others. Paired with their spicy mayo and you have a celestial experience my friends. Now the burger....I typically don't want a burger without lettuce tomatoes and pickles. But the frito bandito is engineered well enough that I don't need those . It has chili , cheese sauce, guacamole, and Fritos ! Another celestial experience my friends! They have really good house made sauces as well.

First time to Only Burger and it will definitely be a repeat! I had the Tiki Burger (guac, pineapple salsa, pepper jack cheese on a toasted brioche bun) with a small side of onions rings. The “small” side of onion rings came with five large rings cooked to perfection with a seasoned breading- delish! My husband had the Baja burger (jalapeño slaw, pepper jack cheese, guacamole on a toasted brioche bun) with a side of bacon wrapped cheddar jalapeños. You’ll need a knife to cut your bigger because it’s bigger than your mouth but oh-so good! The staff are chill and friendly. A great vibe for a Durham local favorite!

They have other things besides only burgers - you can substitute beef patty with turkey, chicken, vegan, or an impossible burger. You can customize anything here! I was hesitant about the thickness of the bun but it was soft. So delicious. Don’t mind the mess, grab a fork!

A colleague and I decided to have lunch at Only Burger today. My colleague had eaten there before but this was my first time eating at this restaurant. There is no dining inside of the restaurant, but there is dining outside. There is dining accommodation for a few people, but not a very large group. The weather was perfect today for outside dining. Our food came out in a timely manner. Everything was delicious and filling. They really do make great burgers. We both had the turkey burger, which was seasoned well, moist, and had good texture.

What a great find! We love Only Burger for their incredible Turkey Burgers, extra crispy fries, and the amazing team of friendly staff there. They also offer customizations so you can design any custom creation that suits your fancy. BTW, they also offer beef, lamb, chicken, and impossible burgers, to name a few, as well as a good selection of beverages and ice cream. Their buns are very good, and other times we get our meat on a lettuce wrap; yum! Consistent quality!

Cosmic Cantina, located at the corner of Ninth St. and Perry St. in Durham, is a hidden gem known for its organic Mexican cuisine served in a casual and cozy setting with very late-night hours. Despite being a bit difficult to find, this quirky spot offers delicious burritos and other Mexican favorites that are well worth the search. The menu features cheap yet generous portions of burritos, along with beer, margaritas, chips & queso.
The food was great, especially for late night. Service was great, but make sure you check that receipt because I was about to put cash in the tip jar before I noticed that they had already charged me $5.15 for a tip without saying anything or posting about automatic tips charges (definitely would've given them extra cash but I would also like to be notified of what I am being charged..so I decided against it for that reason) My family and friends will definitely be back next time we're in town. The outside patio is cute, too 😍

Very cool burrito joint! Not being a local this was a little hard to find. Thanks to other reviewers showing the stairs. The door is street level and then immediate stairs up tp the second floor. The business upstairs and to the right. In town for work and stumbled upon this place being near my hotel. So glad I stopped. I'm from South Chicago so latin food is no stranger to me. I travel a LOT for work and always get Mexican once a week wherever I'm at. THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST CHICKEN BURRITO I HAVE EVER HAD! You can smell the place while you're walking up the stairs. Upon entering you're hit with a wave of delicious aromas. They had so many choices it was difficult to choose. I ultimately choose the deluxe chicken burrito. Every item in this thing was perfect. Salsa and guacamole were incredible. I'm here for a week and am planning on stopping twice more before I leave. It's THAT good.
Matthew W — Google review
I ordered burritos, but my order was messed up badly. There was too much avocado and a lot of sour cream, which I did not request and I don’t like neither. Because of this, I wasn’t able to enjoy my burrito for dinner. The service was very disappointing, and unfortunately, this is the second time it has happened. I hope this mistake doesn’t occur again in the future.

Way too expensive for what it is and not very good. The prices on the most recent menu pictures are not up to date fya if you’re ordering pick up. Ordered a giant steak chimichanga - $25. Almost no meat in the chimichanga, it was all rice and beans. I probably count the number of small pieces of meat inside. Most of the cheese on top was also not melted Queso - $9. Chicken quesadilla - $9. Cheese on quesadilla was not melted and still whole. It was more like a plain chicken taco with some unmelted cheese inside.

Quintessential dive bar....it is absolutely fantastic. This is a must visit spot. The service was phenomenal, the drinks were absolutely delicious and the mozzarella triangles were legit to die for. Gender neutral bathrooms labeled pee box 1 and 2! Love it! I will definitely be back!

Grabbed a dinner here with my friend The place reminds me of a nice bar Service was really good. The lady who took care of us was very attentive The food however was a let down The chicken sandwich according to my friend was just ok I didn't like my beef burger and didn't want to eat the patty The burger sides aka the mushroom and bacon were good The star of the meal was the delicious fries The mozzarella triangles , tasty but inconsistent.some filled some empty Overall may come back for fries but not really for the rest ,maybe a drink They comped me a bit for my burger but it wasn't the taste for me.
NSA — Google review
This was a really cool bar & grill. The vibe was nice and artsy. Unfortunately the food was not great. We ordered the mozzarella triangles and they tasted like they were fried in old oil. I couldn’t eat them. Hubby got the Reuben and it was so so. He gave it a 3.5. I had the burger and it was ok. It was cooked in a flat top and some people like that sorta thing. I prefer the grilled with a smoke flavor. It was a little bland for my taste. We didn’t have anything from the bar but it looks like they have a good selection of beer if you like beer.

Great atmosphere. Excellent food. Mozzarella triangles a must. Burger was juicy and delicious. Fried bologna sandwich very thick and tasty.

Love the atmosphere of the place. We ordered an appetizer, two sodas, and two burgers, one with fries, and it came out to over $50. Good food, just too expensive. Staff was very nice and I liked the atmosphere.

It's a cool bar and grill in 9th Street in Durham. It's not a huge place. The service was great. I assume you just try to find a seat as it's a bit smaller of an establishment. Some pretty good bar type foods are offered. All the food we tried was pretty good. Big selection of bottles and can beer. Only a couple of draft selections and a full bar..

Absolutely amazing place! Very cool vibes, very chill atmosphere. I had the cheesesteak with tots and my wife had the Reuben. The cheesesteak is no doubt the best one you can find. The tots are 9/10 and are amazing! Reuben can be better but the overall experience is still 5 stars. Definitely worth checking out. We will be back.

We came here on vacation and it was wonderful. The service was great and the restaurant had a nice pub feel to it. The food was cooked perfectly and the fries had good seasoning on them. We highly recommend this place.

Guasaca South American Grill-Durham is a vibrant counter-serve eatery that offers custom-made arepas, bowls, and salads in a chic and bright setting. With multiple locations in the Triangle area, this spot has garnered rave reviews for its traditional Colombian arepas, as well as its bowls and salads featuring authentic ingredients. The menu includes various protein options such as grilled chicken, roasted beef, pork, and more.
Did door dash I like their crispy chicken with the cilantro sauce and yellow arepa with chips. The mini cheese arepas are tasty but oooh so sweet ! Beware I've been to other spots of the chain, it's consistently good.

Filling and affordable! I got the shredded beef arepa, loved every bite & pick up was smooth and quick. Spent a little over $6 for two on Uber!

Great for arepas in the triangle. The food is affordable and I like the combinations you can make. My favorite is their chicken arepa with plantains, beans, and cheese.

I came in around dinner time and ordered something quick to prepare. Naturally, my order was ready first, and the staff kindly rang me up. Another customer got upset thinking I was cutting in line, but in reality, there was no reason to be angry. It was simply a faster item. I was in a hurry and couldn’t explain at the moment, but I want to leave this note to say the staff did absolutely nothing wrong. They handled the situation calmly and professionally, and I really appreciate how they stuck to the correct process. Great service under pressure. Thank you and keep up the good work! Oh! Crispy chicken, avocado chicken, and grilled steak are my favorite arepas. Definitely worth to give it a try.
Ching-Lung H — Google review
I'm a little torn on this review...the vegetarian arepa was quite good. Great flavor, even though the presentation was rather sloppy compared to some of the other pictures I've seen. The arepa itself was okay, compared to others that I've had - it lacked some structure. However, the salad/bowl was a different story. Everything looked okay but it was sweet. I'm not sure what was going on, are they trying to appease an American pallet? To be frank, I could have ordered something very similar at Chipotle (minus plantains) and the flavor would have been more savory - or put another way, I was expecting dark chocolate and got milk chocolate. Even while writing this review I can't help to think how odd and disappointing it was, especially when the arepa started things off in the right direction. Service was friendly and fast, no bad remarks.

M Kokko is a cozy and stylish eatery that specializes in Korean-inspired chicken dishes, such as wings, noodles, rice dishes, and gyoza. As the sister restaurant to M Sushi, it offers a limited but carefully curated menu of Chef Mike Lee's favorite Korean comfort foods. One of its highlights is the delectable ramen that has been designed not to overlap with the offerings at nearby Dashi.
Friendly staff and really good food! We got the Korean Fried Chicken (soy garlic!), Jia Jiang Noodles which were super good, and the Biang Biang Noodles. Also got the chocolate tart, which we really liked. Limited seating, so small parties (1-4 people) are best. Tucked behind M sushi.
Cee D — Google review
If you’re looking for a meal that’ll make you wish you could eat the same thing every day, M Kokko is the place to be. We went with three people, and, as soon as the dishes hit the table, we were completely blown away. The menu is perfectly curated (thankfully, not overwhelming), and honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on it. We kicked things off with the Nashville hot chicken wings, which packed a punch but were perfectly crispy, followed by the pork belly bao—oh my—it was so tender and flavorful, it practically melted in your mouth. The beef noodles? Unfortunately, we got so caught up in devouring them, we forgot to take a picture, but let me just say they were divine. Tender beef, savory broth, and noodles that soaked up all the goodness—you can’t leave without trying them. We washed it all down with some sake and a beer, but at this point, we were eating so fast and in such bliss that we were already planning our next trip before we even finished our meal. The service was also top-notch, which only made the experience that much better. If you’re in Durham, you need to make M Kokko a priority. Trust me, it’s worth every bite. We’ll definitely be back.
ALLISON D — Google review
I wish I loved it more because we drove an hour just to try this place. The pork and toppings on the ramen was very good but the broth was insanely salty. I thought it was just my bowl but every bowl in our group was the same. Jjajiang was also very very salty. Only good dish was the fried chicken.
L H — Google review
I really love these "M" restaurants. The concept of small plate cooking is something fantastic. The chef gets to focus on very minimal dishes and they make sure those dishes are perfect. The lower rating is purely because of the small cramped up place. No way to make reservations ... waitlist is on an iPad. Now we don't mind that kind of an experience but that's usually at a fast food kind of a place with Fast food kinda prices. Please don't misunderstand, this is a fantastic place to have dinner. Great food with simple ambiance.
Nikhilesh C — Google review

I only leave reviews when I think it's worth it, and M Kokko was worth every cent. I'm from Philadelphia, and M Kokko is the first place I've tried in RDU that matches the authenticity, flavor, and style of Korean and Asian inspired cuisine back home. My waitress, Ness, was kind and attentive, and felt like I was talking to a friend. Everyone there was really chill and down to earth. I'll definitely be back, especially for the banh mi and ramen.

One of the affordable M series restaurants with excellent food. We had the Hainan chicken and Biangbiang noodles, both of which were outstanding. Service is good.
RITABRITA G — Google review
Their ramen is the best in town, no ifs or buts about it, and all the food is delicious. And after I developed a soy and dairy allergy (long story), they’ve been incredibly lovely in accommodating it and making the dish work just as well, even though it required replacing a number of ingredients. Servers are always lovely and helpful. We come here a ton and after how they’ve handled the allergy, I’m a loyal costumer for life.

I absolutely love love love Loaf 🫶🏻 The ube coconut flan is a standout—silky, creamy, and perfectly balanced with the sweetness of coconut and the rich, earthy flavor of ube. The cream puff is just as amazing, with its light, airy shell and luscious, smooth cream filling. I also loveeee their bread! If you're a fan of delicious, well-crafted pastries and bread, this place is a must! loaf i love you ❤️
Chelsea W — Google review
Best bakery I’ve found while living in Durham. Creative flavor and texture combinations of nuts, molasses, ginger, fruits, and cocoa are a refreshing substitute for the bludgeoning sweetness I have come to expect from desserts. Always fresh baked each morning with new selections. Pricing is all over the map so I tend to frequent the cookies—usually around a dollar. Every time I go I love the simplicity of pick, pay, walk away, but be aware that there is no seating in the bakery. I recommend sitting by the Carolina theatre.
Rebekah M — Google review
Odes should be written about Loaf’s devotion to butter. As a Montreal, Canada expat, Loaf has been my French bakery oasis for the past 11 years. Everything they make is perfection and—no exaggeration intended, only serious facts here—my croissant-shaped heart and 2nd belly roll (a tribute to Loaf’s pain aux raisins) would wither without them!

Recently moved to the area and stumbled on this bakery. The man who assisted us knew all about the bread and let me explain the meal I was making and helped me pick the perfect loaf. Nanaimo Bars in Durham, NC?!! Who could ask for more? If you have never tried these, run, drive, pull up in your car, bring a friend or buy some to share. John (pictured here) and the other members of the team were so nice, helpful and welcoming. If you ever made these Canadian treats, you know that it is labor intensive but worth it. My friend had the almond croissant and it was delicious. I highly recommend this local Durham bakery. Thank you Loaf, you made our day!

Amazing pastries with a great vibe. The shop has a limit of 3 people in the store at a time. All the things i brought tasted fresh and so good. While you shop you can catch a glimpse of people making fresh breads in the back which was so cool. They have a wide selection and i will definitely go again!
Kharis S — Google review
Loaf Bakery is one of the few places in RTP that sells excellent butter and chocolate croissants. The almond croissants are good as well, though they aren’t made with the traditional French recipe. The experience, however, comes at a price. At $4+, the cost feels steep—but it’s not the bakery’s fault; it’s simply the going rate in the U.S. Unfortunately, this pricing makes what is considered a daily staple in France feel like a luxury treat here. For context, a butter croissant in France costs about €1—yes, just one euro... Pastries are also too expensive, but I guess locals are ok with it. As a conclusion, I also noticed that the size of the chocolate croissant has significantly decreased... Bread is also worth the drive.

Unbelievable bakery. The highlight of our two days spent in Durham. Staff was so friendly, the croissants were delectable, but the showstopper was the olive bread with the European butter they sell in the refrigerated case. We'd go out of our way to visit next time we are in the area.

We ordered kongpao chicken and sweet and sour chicken. Averaging about $8 each dish. Probably the most best value in town. Don't know how they make money by such a price😅 Maybe they care more about people then business. Both dishes tasted good. Sweet and sour is very crispy and kongpao is flavourful. Anyways. It's owned by a small family business. They are super welcoming and courteous. Lunch time was fully packed.

We had hot and sour soup, ginger chicken and sesame tofu and they tasted like 5 star dishes. They were actually out of the soup but the owner made us a fresh pot. This is a very unique place! The bakery is the highlight, their pastries and cakes are amazing. I especially loved the cinnamon carrot cake cheesecake and the passion fruit tres leches. I wasn’t as impressed with the savory foods here. The spring rolls were mostly filled with rice noodles, and the sandwich was good but overpriced and lacked structural integrity. Menu and baked goods seem to be constantly changing so it’s hard to know what you’ll get when you go, which is hard if you find a favorite dish that then disappears or prefer planning your meal, or it can be good if you like a surprise and variation and adventure. Staff are super nice.

Absolutely masterful. I don't know what these low reviews are about. I've been about three times now since April and each time has been amazing. Appetizers, spot on. Main course, delicious. The pulled noodles are just beautiful. I don't know about their sandwiches.... I always get the noodles. Pork were the best so far. Desserts... I can't really put into words how good. It can often be very busy so a reservation is probably required and even then we often have to wait ten minutes. But for a deliciously spicy and unique meal this is the place. And the pieces are amazing for the food you get. We just buy so much of it that it's way too much for a standard meal
Ryan P — Google review
This place is a little weird. To start off, almost everything has pork, so you already know that limits the menu to less than a handful of options to choose from as someone who doesn’t eat pork. Secondly, a little overpriced for a semi self serve restaurant. My noodle bowl was $18. Thirdly, if I hadn’t paid attention, I wouldn’t have realized that they charge you 4% MANDATORY hidden fee to cover THEIR vacations, and THEIR 401k, and THEIR insurance. Let me help myself before helping others! When I asked what this automatic charge is, the cashier pointed at the little sign on the counter explaining why. Pretty disgusting if you ask me. This should not be a mandatory fee whatsoever, but an optional one. While the veggies noodles (one of the only thinks I can get on their menu) was okay, because of hidden behavior like this, I won’t be returning back.
Ron K — Google review
Rose's Noodles is a cute place on the outskirts of downtown Durham that offers its own twist on a ramen shop. When visiting around 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. The restaurant had a couple people sitting outside with a few tables full and an open counter on the inside. The atmosphere is very cute. Having a open kitchen with areas dedicated to making their own homemade sweets. It seemed promising but outside initial expectations things deviated. My partner and I both ordered one of the steamed buns which looked just as they do in any of the other photos that you find, but while tasteful, did not feel fresh made and was actually not hot at all. All. The insides were warmed but it's hard for me to confirm if these were "freshly steamed". I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and my partner ordered the The pork option belt noodles. The tonkotsu ramen was delicious and had savory flavors with tender meat, and well cooked noodles. For my partner, her belt noodles were good but it was hard to acknowledge and enjoy The taste of the ingredients due to them being doused and chili sauce. To the point where it was inedible. This is a shame because the noodles were definitely homemade and quite delicious but could not be enjoyed. This would have not been as bad if our service would have made up for it and provided adequate water for us to accompany the burn of the noodles. After being sat and given the initial bottle of water to share at the table, the only way I was able to get service from there on was to flag down our server. At one point another table got up and went outside with their water bottle to refill it at the water tank that is provided for the people that are sitting outside. The food was delivered by one of the chefs, at no point did our waiter check on us to see how we were doing and we also had to flag them down when you were ready for the check after having not eaten a bite of food for over 5 to 10 minutes. The server seemed more occupied with folding menus and stamping takeout boxes than tending to their tables. The last thing to comment on was that even though it was a very cute restaurant, it looks like that wiping down surface area is not a priority. As The ledge that the flowers were sitting on had not been wiped for a couple days the dust that had accumulated around it was not a pleasant sight. Please see image. In summary, it could have just been an off day + maybe our expectations of the food were not correctly aligned, but I accomplished two trips in one visit being my first and my last. If tempted to go back it may be due to trying the sweets as I have heard good things but this will be a takeout experience rather than a dine in.

Jennifer with Offline - This is a hidden gem- upstairs! What a great place. Counter order, but great service (especially with a nut allergy) and brought all the food to the table. We got a specialty pizza (Dan’s) and a large house salad- easily fed 3 of us. Delicious food, great service and eclectic atmosphere. Loved it! Will be back.

Ordered take out consisting of pepperoni pizza with mushrooms and onions, and baked chicken wings. Pizza was ready quickly, but the toppings on the pizza were skimpy, and the crust wasn't light & crispy like a thin crust should be. The baked wings with the spicy & sweet rub were bland. They were neither sweet nor spicy, just kinda salty, and the skin was not crispy like I expected but soft and mushy. I should have stuck with the tried and true deep fried wings with buffalo sauce. But Pie Pushers looks like a great place to hang out, up on the second floor up a narrow flight of stairs, overlooking Main Street, and I noticed a sign for a special they had for dine in customers: a pizza and a pitcher of beer for $27. Just make sure to ask for extra of whatever toppings you want.

El Chapin Guatemalan Grill & Catering is a casual restaurant and market located on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard. Opened by Rony Ordonez in 2015, it offers traditional Guatemalan dishes such as tamales and chicken stew made from a secret family recipe. The vibrant setting features a wall of grocery items, adding to the authentic atmosphere. The menu offers delicious Guatemalan food at an average price of around $10 for main dishes.
This place is a fantastic find that we wish we had discovered earlier. Don't let the store-front appearance fool you; the food is incredibly flavorful. I’m not qualified to say if this is authentic Guatemalan cuisine but it definitely transported me to a different country. If you love bold flavors, this place is a must-try. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We'll definitely be returning for more!

Tonight, I got a bunch of a la carte items- a salsa tostada, pork tamale, sweet plantains, pupusas (one shrimp & one beef), and a beef pastelito. Every single item was incredibly well made and very flavorful. My favorite were the pupusas, which are by far the best I’ve ever had. On top of that, the atmosphere is fantastic & the service is always great.

Omg this food is so delicious I wanted to cry. I don't how they make the rice but wow. Recommend 100 percent.

First time eating here! The customer service was friendly, maybe a little disorganized, but everyone was kind and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing, and I especially loved that they played marimba music; it made me feel like I was back in Guatemala! I’d definitely recommend this spot to anyone craving authentic Guatemalan food or looking to try something new and delicious.

The food was good. It might depend on people's tastes, though. Although the meal I ordered didn't make much of an impression on me, I'm happy to go back and try something else. It was cool that they have an integrated store with all kinds of things such as ointments, chips, and soft drinks.
Sandra C — Google review
The camarones en crema was amazing! I could eat the cream sauce by itself with the tortillas! Everything was fresh and flavorful. The rice was cooked to perfection the pollo A la plancha and the Pollo Loco were both satisfying. I took 2 bites of the plantains and was stuffed! If you want to get full and happy this is the place to go. They also have an assortment of cakes (carrot and tres leche) cheesecakes, churros and a plantain empanada(?) 🤯 I'll have to come back for those. One of Durham's hidden gems😋😚🤌🏽 *chef's kiss*

This is my happy and comfort place. I come here - delicious fresh food with great portions, friendly staff, upbeat music but not in your ears like some places, people coming here having a good time. Oh did I mention they also have tropical fruit milkshakes!? The restaurant is connected to the store - the the store is just delightful - separated by a plant wall, the store has marinated meat, delicious deserts, and other general goods. It’s fun to walk around and browse while waiting for the food. The tamales is worth a try - moist and well stuffed with generous pickles. I only wish I have a bigger stomach!

Bagel shop
Isaac's Bagels is a popular spot in the Bull City breakfast scene, having started as a pandemic pop-up and later establishing a permanent brick-and-mortar location. The menu features classic and adventurous bagel flavors, along with scratch-made whipped cream cheese and an expanding selection of breakfast and open-faced sandwiches. Customers praise the hardworking staff, delicious bagels, flavorful cream cheeses, and delectable pastries like fudgy brownies.
I’m not a big bread person - I know, people think I’m crazy - I do love delicious bread, but don’t get cravings for it or go out of my way to eat bread. So that speaks volumes about how amazing Isaac’s Bagels are. Hands down the BEST bagels I’ve ever had, enough so that I actually DO get cravings for them! I usually get them before my long runs as a special treat to fuel me. The food itself is a great variety. They have the staples of bagels and breads, with traditional flavors, but also have creative items that don’t cross into the hipster, nonsense realm of local shops. They’re just genuinely, deliciously creative! I’m mad I missed their recent donut making and hope that comes back soon! Shop is always clean, service is always fast, and staff is always polite, kind, and accepting of EVERYONE. It’s straightforward, honest service and they treat everyone well because they’re focused on their craft. Parking can be a bit tough, but usually you can find somewhere. Other than that, been a fantastic experience every time I go.

Best bagel in the area! My go to in the turkey club sandwich on an everything bagel. Sooooooo good! The service is very fast and friendly! There's a great second hand store right next door that is also worth a visit!
B D — Google review
The bagels here are absolutely incredible, especially if you can get them fresh! We love everything bagel with regular cream cheese and the cinnamon raisin bagel with fig and honey cream cheese.
Stephen M — Google review
I love me a good bagel sandwich post morning bike ride, or between Sunday pickleball and church. Oddly specific, but those are prime times that I come by. I also love coming here cause people are just so nice and they’re super fast with your orders. Honestly, Isaac’s Bagels might just be the extra push I need to get up in the morning for my morning workouts (maybe not all the time cause I’m a broke grad student ok but you get the point). My personal favorites are their sausage, egg and cheese on a sesame or raisin bagel (the subtle sweet/savory combo is goated). Cheese is melty and so is my heart when I get food in me. I’ve had their lox as well, and my roommates really like their avocado. I’m always amazed with their unique selection of cream cheeses and unique varieties of bagels. They also have caffeine for ya and if you really like their spreads, they sell them too. Super unique mix like burnt jalapeño, and Sichuan chili? Yeah, give me a couple gallons of those. I’m always intrigued by their other selections so it just means that I’ll have to do come by more often post-morning workouts when I’m in the area (& have some extra spending money). Anyway, gotta come by if you’re in the area. And if you’re not in the area? Why? Come by anyway, definitely worth it :) Oh and they don’t have seating inside! So be sure to plan accordingly. Because they’re so close to Duke, I just recommend checking out campus or make your way to Duke Garden’s while you’re around. Or if you’re a student like me, just eat it in your car in the parking garage and make everyone walking by to get to class jealous. To each their own- as long as I get my bagels from Isaac’s 😌
Nicole M — Google review
Egg and cheese with dill scallion CC on everything - perfection. Good, genuine bagels that are moist and chewy like they should be. I’ll try the lox sando next time I’m in town!

Isaac's is a wonderful place! The bagels and accompaniments are delicious. Gabi and her team provided food and outstanding service for our recent brunch (~180 ppl) at a local park and clubhouse. Gabi went personally to survey the space ahead of time, and provided setup and clean up as well as keeping the food and beverages replaced as needed. She brought labels for all the food, including some from a different vendor--on her own initiative! They also allowed me to bring the flowers/tablecloths/plates and cutlery while bringing all food containers and serving utensils from Isaac's to help minimize disposables. Highly recommended.
Julia S — Google review
Isaac's Bagels is an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, the owner and staff greeted us with smiles and a warmth that truly felt like home. The bagels were fantastic—I tried the whole wheat and everything bagel, and both were absolutely incredible! Toasted to perfection, they were soft on the inside and crisp on the outside—without being too salty. Between the amazing customer service and the delicious bagels, I’m already looking forward to returning and supporting this spot again and again!
Joi — Google review
The experience began on a positive note, with people courteously holding the door open for one another. Upon entering, the woman taking our order was friendly and welcoming. However, things quickly took a turn. Another employee began code-switching, and at first, I didn’t fully register what was happening. It became more apparent as several more customers arrived. The difference in how she interacted with Black American customers compared to others was noticeable and made the environment feel uncomfortable. It was clear that her tone and manner of speaking varied significantly depending on who she was addressing.

Durham Food Hall is a trendy and modern space that houses various laid-back eateries, cafes, and a central bar. It's the perfect spot to sample local cuisine, no matter how long your visit. Whether you're craving Chorizo Crunchwrap from Ex-Voto, Margherita Pizza from Napoli Pizzeria & Gelateria, Gulab Jamun from Mango Indian Grill, or Mapo Tofu Dumplings from Corner Yaki, there's something for everyone.
Top on my most favorite spot now! Love the bagel sandwich place. Food, drink, dessert and sitting area are all to my liking! Would spend hours here just eating, drinking, chatting with friends and family!

We tried a couple of different places everything was amazing! Ginger chicken dumplings were good (slightly spicy) The chicken Crunchwrap was delish but i barely at half of it so I’d recommend sharing it with someone if you are planning to try a bunch of stuff The smash burger was chef’s kiss It’s pricey but I assume it’s not cheap to rent space in here - I’m happy to support small businesses any day We’ll be back!

Locals is located in the Liberty warehouse in Dutham. If you're wondering if we enjoyed the whole red snapper (about 1 lb), we did 😆 Just Bones! We were hangry and dug in, fried 🐟hard and crispy on the outside, and perfect on the inside! $30 for this dish with slaw and waffle fries on the side. You can also order smoked oysters 🦪, which I didn't try but was told were very good. Lastly, the kale and garlic salad is tasty!

Great spot in Durham! It's lively, lots of variety (seafood/indian/burgers/bagels/pizza/Asian/mexican/coffee + boba bar) - mix of people kicking back and having drinks, to families with young kids, to people studying or hanging on their laptops. Good vibe and clean. I was there with my family, pizza and cheese steak pop up were good, I liked my Milk Bar drink and thought the Onigiri was really good. My husband really liked the chorizo burrito, their in house habanero hot sauce was spicy (in a good way!).This is perfect for a large group interested in options, also they have long community tables and I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to find a table on a busy Sunday afternoon.

Fun, trendy place. Almost bohemian. Very noisy though. Also, can be very crowded on weekends. I recommend all of the restaurants, really. There is a great selection to choose from. Have a great lunch and then enjoy a nice cup of coffee or a Milklab drink after. My wife and I like to go here after visiting the Farmers Market just down the street on the weekend.

Loved the options available. If I were a local I think I’d still have trouble picking what to eat! My fiancée and I dropped in while passing through, and had coffee, bubble tea, crunchwraps, and bao buns — a little taste of a few of their spots. Though next time I’ll be looking at the Indian food and Burger joint (if I can resist those crunchwraps) 👌 The place was very clean, had many guests enjoying lunch but didn’t feel overcrowded, and even had an upstairs for private events. We saw they host other community events as well! Very cool spot — can’t wait to pass through again (and we will be sure to)!

Pizza restaurant
Restaurant
Pizzeria Toro is a lively and modern pizza parlor known for its wood-fired pies, Italian wines, and bustling atmosphere. The menu features a variety of red and white pizzas as well as a selection of hams. The restaurant offers a large communal table, creating an opportunity to meet new people. While they don't take reservations, the experience is worth the wait.
Some of the best pizza in my life. Shared 4 pies with colleagues and there wasn't a bite left. They were larger than we expected, but couldn't stop ourselves from eating everything. This was my first potatoes pizza experience and my life is better because of it. The place was packed but the service was great! We had beers at the bar while we waited a few mins for a table. I can't wait to come back.

Love this place! Perfectly baked in wood fired oven. Unique pizza combos as well as more traditional options on menu. Vegan option on menu with cashew cheese. Espresso on dessert menu (but didn’t see vegan food on dessert menu). Little bar around the corner (past restrooms).

Great food, great beer great service. We bypassed the line as we only had 2 and sat at the window. Morel crotini was amazing and the deep fried pigs ear surprisingly tasty. Anchovies pizza was our favorite and the sweet fennel sausage a close second. Really good and an upscale pizza place with more pizza than just pizza. We loved it. Worth the wait and you know why there is a wait in the first place

Ali and Matt were excellent! The food was top notch. I sat in the back bar area and met three other very nice customers. Loved it, looking forward to returning!
Raymond R — Google review
Our server was not very pleasant, she had an attitude and seemed a little racist. I didn’t get her name but she had dirty blonde hair and bangs. We waited more than 10 mins for her to even greet us. But when they sat an older white couple beside us they were greeted almost immediately, by the same server. The food was delicious! We ordered an old school pepperoni pizza.
Emily — Google review
I really don’t like sharing negative reviews, but we were honestly shocked at the quality of our pizza for the (very high) price. Our pizza came out with no browning on the cheese. We honestly suspect that the cheese was pre shredded. That is just not acceptable for a $20 12” pizza. We have heard great things about this place and this was our first visit. We will sadly not be back.
Maggie W — Google review
This place is absolutely amazing! Not only was the pizza delicious, but the atmosphere was so fun and inviting for a big group like we had or a date night. We ordered the Old School Pepperoni Pizza, New School Pepperoni Pizza, and Summer Squash Pizza! I also want to give a special shoutout to our waitress, Rebekah. I have a severe tree nut allergy, and she went above and beyond to make sure I felt safe and comfortable. Without me even asking, she marked every pizza that came out for my allergy and double-checked that I could have it, just in case I wanted to try something beyond my own order. I cannot wait to go back!!!
Maria L — Google review
My friend from Italy said this is the best pizza he's had outside of his country, and that it's on par with some of the best he's ever had, period. The appetizer we had (burrata) was fine, but we ordered a red pizza (buffalo mozzarella and basil) and a white pizza (roasted leek and guanciale) and both were incredible. I even noticed a little bit of salt as you reach the crust, which is a nice flavor boost. The pizzas were cooked expertly, right in the center of the open kitchen. The back wall is full of firewood, which is super cool to see. Dessert was the crostata and cannoli, both of which were fantastic. With dessert I also had a glass of Amaro montenegro, which was served chilled, as it should be. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the service was great. I'm definitely going back!

Without a doubt, some Of the best food you will eat anywhere. I consider the prices the lowest I've seen for the high quality of food. The deserts/cakes are to die for. The food shop has wonderful selections to take home. If you are near Durham, you have to visit!

Loved bringing my dog here and having a wonderful brunch. I like how they were set up to seat yourself, order upfront and someone will deliver your order. It made for fast service.
Dong Y — Google review
The place was heaving with people when we came in Saturday for late breakfast/brunch, but the ordering situation (at the counter with lots of folks taking orders) made things move along super-quickly. We had my brother and sister-in-law's dog with us and sat outside, where "all animals are welcome." (Hank is kind of an anxious fellow but after a little medication and a treat he settled pretty well -- we were in the section to the right of the front door, down a few steps, which was unoccupied except by us for the majority of our visit.) I ordered the omelette with corn, asparagus, and I don't know what else, but it was massive and SOOOOO good! Wish I had paid attention to the sauce but it made the dish. Came with home fries that were also delicious. SIL had avocado toast, brother had chilaquiles, and both of their plates were spotless when they finished (WITHOUT help from Hank 😉), and we all enjoyed our coffees, one brewed and two fancy. The staff was amazing and friendly, the lines moved quickly, and the atmosphere was fun and congenial. Will definitely be back and bringing more visitors!

Overall really great! I loved the ham egg and cheese biscuit, and my dirty chai latte was amazing. The chai actually tasted like high quality chai. I also had tiramisu and it was great! Everything was maybe a touch pricy so I won’t come here all the time, but I will say the food was worth it if you feel like splurging. LGBT friendly as far as I’m aware, I’m visibly queer and was treated well. Gravel parking lot and mixed terrain floors inside, so if you have physical disabilities navigating the space might be challenging. They do have a ramp into the building. I added some videos of the handicap parking and the parking lot/floors.

Nice cozy place that serves breakfast and lunch. We were in Durham area and looking for a nice local place to support. Foster’s Market definitely matched what we were looking to find. We both ordered sandwiches that were fantastic. Nice size and well made. I ordered the Jammin Turkey Breast Sandwich (very yummy) with just the right amount of spice from the pepper jelly. My wife ordered the Roasted Turkey Breast sandwich, which she really enjoyed. Very nice place to visit with friendly people and plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. If in the area you need to visit.

Great concept. Sandwich shop and coffee shop in an old farmhouse. Great staff. Food was good and sitting outside was nice, plenty of indoor seating also. Try a slice of pie with your meal
Terry T — Google review
A fun, eclectic restaurant with a deliciously diverse menu that makes you want to come back again and again until you have tasted every item on the menu. You feel like you step back in time as you peruse the old-time candy collection and the ample selection some of the tastiest cakes and pastries on earth. There is a separate coffee counter where you can get an excellent cup of made-to-order coffee just the way you like it. There is indoor and covered and sort of uncovered outdoor seating. It was a perfect day when we went, and we sat on the covered porch and made a memory of a lifetime with the family. I plan to make this an annual family sojourn. I can’t wait to return to this “destination restaurant” in Durham. Highly recommended, be prepared for a great time and delicious meal!

Dashi is a two-story Japanese restaurant in Durham that offers an authentic dining experience. The first floor specializes in hearty bowls of ramen noodles, while the second floor features an izakaya with a diverse menu of Japanese small plates and a selection of drinks including beer, wine, and cocktails.
Dashi Ramen is a gem in downtown Durham, offering a cozy and inviting atmosphere perfect for a casual meal. The space is charming, with a warm, intimate vibe that makes you feel right at home. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the welcoming experience. Sitting at the bar gave me a front-row seat to the action, where I watched my meal being freshly prepared. Everything was made from scratch, and the attention to detail was clear in every bite. The food itself was fantastic—rich, flavorful broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and fresh ingredients that elevated the dish. Despite the lunchtime rush, my order came out quickly without sacrificing quality. If you’re in Durham and craving top-notch ramen with great service, Dashi is absolutely worth a visit!
Patrick T — Google review
I was craving Ramen while in Durham and found Dashi. At first, I was a little bothered because I stood at the entrance for almost 10 mins before I was acknowledged. I almost left, but then the waitress showed up and seated me quickly. I ordered a Tonkotsu ramen. They have a good menu, but I only tried the ramen. It was ok. I’ve had lots of Ramen before, and this one was just ok. The place is pretty cool though. The seating area is small, but spacey the way the seating is arranged.
B B — Google review
Best traditional ramen around. Sit upstairs got a different experience. The wings are spectacular. Sam was an amazing server who offered superb guidance and helped make our evening extra special. We love this place.
Andrew T — Google review
Dashi nails the balance between cozy ramen shop and lively izakaya. We started with kimchi (bright and spicy), duck skewers (smoky and tender), and wagyu sliders (rich, juicy, and topped with kimchi — a must-order). For ramen, the chicken bowl was light and clean with silky broth, while the tonkotsu was creamy, porky comfort with charred belly and a jammy egg. Both were excellent in their own style. The warm bar vibe and crisp cocktails tied it all together.
Kelsey H — Google review
DO NOT EAT HERE. $18 bowls for horrible food quality. Ramen broth is watered down and tasteless, just salty. The only thing that was acceptable about the bowl was the noodles. The pork, toppings and broth are extremely poorly prepared. Takoyaki hushpuppies also tasted like frozen crab cakes at best, an embarrassing imitation of takoyaki. Thoroughly disappointing meal and waste of money and calories.
Taylor W — Google review
I got the tonkonstu ramen. The egg was great, the broth wasnt good too sour or vinegary. The pork belly was delicious and so was the pork buns. But the ramen was the worst ive ever had in durham. And the atmosphere wasnt super, but it was clean. And the service sucked. There was a sign that said wait to be seated so I waited. For like 10 min. Only three table were in there and two had paid. While I sat there waiting. So I sat my self and the girl just looked at me. I told her I came in twice and waited there and nothing happen. Then I ordered and I sat at the bar. Tell me why when the food was made it just sat there. I didnt know it was mine and I guess the cook who im sat in front of didnt know it was my ramen. So the bowl just sat beside me, where all the other food order sat. Then the girl has it to me. And I had to snatch utensils from a table bc none were given to me. I was happy to finish didnt leave a tip. Won't got back. Only bc the ramen isn't as good as other places.
Michaela S — Google review
Do not get the omakase. Not worth the money at all. TLDR. The desert on a 78$ dinner was half a chilled banna drizzled with chocolate. It was expensive but I don't mind expensive if the foods worth it. I've spent 400 dollars a person at restaurants and walked away smiling but sadly that's not the case here. The portions are tiny. The ingredients were on the cheaper side including things like corndogs and the cheaper wet scallops with the preservative iodine taste that the cook didn't get rid of by brining it first. None of the dishes that were playing off of japanese dishes were as good as the original japanese dishes. The only good things about this place was the service and the "everybody hates chris" Drink was tasty and well balanced. Maybe the ramen is good but the trust part of omakase is misplaced here.

Interesting night here at Dashi this past Saturday. We were downtown thinking of places for dinner. We had been to Dashi about 2 years ago so I called. Told "no availability till after 8:30 (it was 6 pm). So we tried a couple other places, no luck. Said what the heck, let's just go walk into to Dashi. Walked up at 6:30 and were sitting in 2 minutes? So if they want more business, train the phone people. Had the Pork and Kimchi Dumplings. Fried SO hard they were crunchy! Should have sent them back, but didn't. The we had the Shio and Miso Ramen. My Shio had litterally NO taste so I added their hot sauce ($2) and soy sauce and pepper and it was palatable. The wife's Miso Ramen she liked. Plenty of noodles. Having had Ramen in Hell's Kitchen NYC as a comparison this leaves alot to be desired. The upstairs is quaint, feels like NYC. Overall an ok dinner but nothing to make us say "WOW" or come back anytime soon.

Cocoa Cinnamon is a beloved coffeehouse founded in 2013 by Leon and Areli Barrera de Grodski, offering single-origin coffee, tea, and drinking chocolate. The cafe pays tribute to key spices that have shaped civilizations through delicious offerings. Their signature La Frida latte features mole syrup from Arelis family recipe and rose petal garnish. Starting with a custom-made coffee bike, the couple has expanded to three successful locations and a roasting business.
Amazing little coffee shop with plenty of unique non-coffee drinks too! Extensive hot cocoa + tea latte collection. Strong coffee variety. Very impressive menu. Some pastry options. Adorable pottery for mugs, bit of a cozy rustic feel. Dark hot cocoa was a bit watery. The whipped cream + Carmel sauce was a must. Would be enthused to explore other drink varieties. Several tables in the back with outlets / wifi for remote/laptop working. Also a good place to read a book. Lively, but not packed, on a Sunday late-afternoon.

Not terribly impressed. Coffee was Ok, pastry I had Ok. Over priced, tight space in old building, lots of activity outside- cars passing, school groups passing, some questionable vagrants about. Ok for collage students, but not a quiet cozy atmosphere. My wife ordered a Mokha coffee, I ordered a Carmelo coffee. When they called my name, I came up to take both of them to the table we had outside. I tasted each one and couldn’t tell the difference between either one. They had very little flavor, maybe some coffee flavor, but watered down. The chocolate croissant I had had very little chocolate in it . The cinnamon roll I had was doughy with sugary top was OK,for what it was.

The vibe of this place is absolutely amazing. This was our first time…staff seemed to be very kind to the regulars- responsive at best to us- I got a peppermint tea but tbh it was just hot water- no flavor of peppermint. Daughter got a delicious dark hot chocolate with added cayenne. It was amazingly velvety and just perfectly yummy.

Good deal for the day old stuff. My 2 wishes would be that they opened before 8. Kinda late open for a bakery if you ask me. I'd even be pleased with 730am, I'd certainly frequent more. And I wish they served Counter Culture coffee.

I ordered the hot roast beef sandwich. It was excellent. Perfect balance of meat peppers, cheese and siracha mayo. The roll it was in was also excellent. I wish this place was closer to my house. The side of coleslaw was refreshing and I was happy to find that they didn't add a bunch of sugar. I will be back!

I had a fantastic lunch at Ninth Street Bakery—the turkey sandwich was absolutely delicious, with all the ingredients tasting super fresh and flavorful. The portion was so generous that I had enough for a second meal! Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving a tasty and satisfying bite. Looking forward to trying their bakery goods!

FIVE-STARS! We love the high quality of Ninth Street Bakery products, especially the 7-Grain loaf, muffins, and more... Although we have visited their bakery and store in downtown Durham, most of the time we will pick up their products at the South Durham Farmers Market and Whole Foods in Raleigh.

You gotta love the vibe that is Durham NC and all the genuinely "on point" eateries. Ninth St. Bakery is one of those that strongly contributes to this vibe. I have only been here once so I can't say too much about the many offerings. I did have the "Spicy" pulled chicken sandwich and that's the reason for the missing star.. it was not "Spicy", it was bland. Everything else looked yummy but the chicken is all I tried.

Delicious sandwich. Got the club on 7 grain. Wow. And the coleslaw was great. No sugar. What a great lunch.

Fantastic counter service and a damn good, and generously sized, potion for $12. The double chocolate chip cookie was as big as my sandwich and quite possibly my favorite part of the meal. The cheese and veggie sandwich was great, I'll try the hummus and veggie next!

Ponysaurus Brewing Co., established in 2015, prides itself on its innovative approach to crafting beers with traditional European styles and a twist of modern flavors. The brewery offers a diverse range of well-crafted beers, from classic ales and stouts to more adventurous saisons, sours, and wits. Visitors can enjoy these brews at the taproom, beer garden, or patio, or take them home from various stores across North Carolina.
This brewery had 16 beers to choose from. I had a flight of 5 beers and all were excellent. They have a great garden area outside and some inside seating. They also had pizza. The restrooms were clean.

Pizza and beer? What more could you want. Tried a wide variety of beers. The cherry sour , IPA, Pilsner, Kolsch all were great. Also how can you not love a motto of “don’t be mean to people”?
Adam L — Google review
Craft Brewery serving great beers and a cozy-feel outdoor seating area, featuring fire pits, wood benches and string lights. There is a wide range of great beers to choose from - the saison was a particular highlight. Tasty food was also a available from an ajoing pizza restaurant. As it was the run up to Halloween, the brewery was showing horror movies in the evening on a big projector, which was a nice touch. Overall a great place to visit if you enjoy your beer!

Beer is good, but not good enough nor cheap enough to beat out other joints in Durham. We came for someone's birthday because of the fire pits, bar was pretty full, and we were told by the bartenders "We can't light another fire because of low sales." While writing this review, they added multiple logs to the other fire pit, which was already lit. We brought 20 people, all in for multiple drinks, I think we can cover the cost of a couple logs. You want low sales? Give people reasons not to want to return your brewery. Edit: As pointed out by the brewery's response, the bartenders were told no fire because of "low sails" over the pit. Unfortunately, they told our group and another that there was no fire because of "low sales." Adding two stars for legitimate reason, but keeping off full 5 for failure to communicate by staff and for the horrible parking lot out front. Needs to be made/clearly marked as a one-way lot.

First time coming to this place and it was on point! The pizza was so good and reminded me of a classic stone oven New York pizza. Their beer selection had a nice variety of different taste for your palate preference. Defiantly would recommend going if you have never been before!

Solid beer, super fun atmosphere. True to form, we tried both IPA options, a west coast and white style, and really enjoyed both. In my commitment to leave my IPA comfort zone, we tried a flight with zero IPA representation (rye pale ale, mango wit, Belgian blonde, Pilsner). Standouts were the Mango Wit and Belgian Blonde. Also, the flight setup was super cute/fun/interesting/different (choose your adjective). All of the seating is outside, with a tiered patio/deck, making it a great spot to enjoy on a beautiful day. Covered seating on the patio/deck is heated, so don’t let the cold months keep you inside! There’s lots of space, so it’s a great spot for groups. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, which we love from a brewery - no pretension here! We didn’t order the pizza, but took a peek at other tables and it looked and smelled amazing. If logos are your thing, Ponysaurus has a great logo. Kudos on branding. PLUS: parking. We love to see it.

Great beer, awesome location, good vibe, and friendly people. Absolutely loved eating my cesar salad as little lettuce boats, and the pizza was delicious! As far as the beer goes, we tried the brown, the IPA, session IPA, and the scotch ale. All were so good we decided to get the saison to go without even having a pint first.

Oh my goodness. We just popped in to grab a beer. Then there was a cool shirt, then to-go beers… Enter Mike. Mike is WONDERFUL. Mike has said it’s his first night behind the bar, but if Mike is not teasing me, he might be the most competent and kind human on Earth. First he complimented my husband’s hoodie and let us ramble on about Odesza. Then he made sure we liked the drinks we had just ordered. Then he found the shirt i horribly described. I’m in the service industry- not anyone would have infinite patience. When we then asked about grabbing a 4 pack to go, he made sure we would like it and got us samples! We wish there was pizza still, but Mike let us down easy. (It’s our fault. Mike did not say this. Mike might have suggested it was the pizza’s fault. Pizza, I love you anyway. Mike, you too.) Mike is the best. Mike might be a witch. All hail Mike!

Bull City Ciderworks Durham is a popular spot known for its hard cider taproom featuring seasonal brews and a charming rustic, industrial-chic decor with outdoor seating. The establishment has been a staple in the city for over 20 years, offering delightful breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. Their gluten-free hard ciders are crafted from 100 percent apple juice without any high fructose corn syrup.
I love cider and I appreciate Bull City Ciderworks. Love to grab dinner from the visiting food truck and hang with friends, or play trivia. Dogs welcome!

We were there for a dog adoption event and I decided to try one of their ciders. I got the Tart Cherry Cider and it was really good. The location is great, but the parking is somewhat challenging to find. I love that they had a lot of ciders, since I have Celiac and am gluten free. But I would love it if some of their beer offerings were also gluten free/gluten reduced. The space itself is awesome. They have a large game room with a pool table and arcade games, that one of my teenagers really gravitated towards. And the dog adoption event with Freedom Ride Rescue was great! So many lovable dog options, from young to old, and the fosters were very knowledgeable about the temperament and backstory of each one. Overall, a great experience!

Really awesome cidery! All the ciders we tried tasted great and weren't overly sweet. Staff was really friendly and helpful in walking us through the menu. And I always appreciate a spot that has a bunch of board games available. For beer drinkers, there are several local taps available as well ... and while we were there, a food truck was on site (and whatever they were making smelled delicious).
Melissa W — Google review
Best cider I've had in the triangle, maybe anywhere. Lots of great options and interesting flavors that aren't just "apple," and their flagship "normal" cider is also one of the best.
Ryan E — Google review
Love this place! They have a great selection of ciders. I am not typically a huge cider person but they have ones that I like! They have unique flavors versus other places that just have like three fruit flavors. We got flights which is always tons of fun! They also had board games so we were able to play and hang out while we drank. There’s a pretty good amount of seating. We went on a Sunday so it was dead but I still think most times there would be enough seating.

The night was spooky, October 31, 2022. The rain soaked parking lot, though it was rather elusive, served as a starting place for a night of tasty terror. We started with a freaky flight and loved the honey cider best, a bloody good treat it was. Would most certainly come back.

Great place to grab a beer! The have up to 16 different ciders to choose from, with guest beers featured as well. Staff is wonderful and encourages you to sample the different beers and even mix ciders. Sounds crazy I know but trust me, they're delicious. Eastcut Sandwich Bar in Durham is a casual spot that specializes in generous sandwiches, salads, and craft beer. Their menu features a variety of sandwich styles from different East Coast regions, such as the Spicy Gabagool inspired by New York City's Italian sub and the Balboa Beefsteak authentic to Philly. The Jaybird pays homage to Durham's fried chicken sandwich tradition with a generous smear of Dukes mayo.
Impeccable sandwich shop!! Came here for lunch and tried both The Jane and the Reggio chicken sandwiches, along with some curly fries- everything was a solid 10/10! They all had way more flavor than expected, well done chefs! 🤩Although it was rather busy, our food came out pretty quick! There is loads of outdoor seating, the only complaint is the tight parking. I would love to see their dessert options expand. Super friendly staff, can’t wait to come back!

LOVE Eastcut. Any version of their chicken sandwiches is a MUST. I personally go for the Buff Chick, because the buffalo sauce and ranch combo with their super soft potato roll and their high quality chicken cutlet is 👌🏼 Now the fries can be a hit or miss at times. Today they were unbelievably crunchy. Still good, but more like chips than fries. Give them a try!

The menu options are unique and interesting. The house made mozzarella sticks were very tasty. The chicken cutlet sandwiches are juicy and crispy. The restaurant was clean, cool, and inviting. We look forward to trying the other chicken sandwiches.

I love the patio space at Eastcut and it's so close to where we shop and work. It's a bit tucked away so rarely overcrowded on workdays! The parking is a little tricky if it's busy but definitely worth a stop!

The food was delicious here! I wasn't a fan of sweet tea or lemonade and it took really long for my food to come out (~30 mins). When I did interact with the staff, they were very nice. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant.

Jen with Offline - We really enjoyed the sandwiches and the Calabrian Caesar Salad with Chicken! Nice beer selection, too (although not expansive). A relaxed atmosphere for meeting up with friends and family. Inside and outside dining are available.

It was just okay. There's always someone online recommending Eastcut, but after my second visit, I just don't get the hype. A sandwich and a tip was over $16, and to be honest, it was really bland and boring. There's a lot that can be done to a sandwich to create flavor, but I don't think Eastcut has found it yet.
Terry S — Google review
What a great little find, sandwiches galore with what’s quite possibly the best mango guava passion-fruit lemonade. So good after my meal I walked back to counter to purchase another one and they said, “I could just refill it for you!” Not overconsumption but it’s just so flavorful. My partner who is some sort of a gastrophile, her ability to recognize a good restaurant and great items that tantalize the tastebuds is just uncanny. She choose falafel salad and I had the Mac Steak?, it was hot and good with a side of curly fries. I know they are really good at cold sandwiches but I opted for this. It was so hot and not overly salty nor trying to be a Philly but good in its own right. When we return to Eastcut, I’ll review a cold sandwich. More goodness to come!

Durham Distillery, established in 2013 and opened to the public in 2015 by Melissa Katrincic and Lee Katrincic, is a small craft distillery that has gained recognition for its premium gins and liqueurs. The distillery's flagship brand, Conniption, has received numerous national and international awards for its American dry and navy-strength gins.
Loved this distillery! The weekend bartenders took such great care of us! They were so knowledgeable and taught us so much while we sampled our flight. The gin was so good too, I loved that you could smell each ingredient as they kept them on the counter. We loved them so much that when we got home we ordered a bottle (we flew with carryons, otherwise we would have bought bottles there). The canned gin and tonics were FANTASTIC too. I highly recommend visiting.

The tour is a fun experience, lots of good info about infusing botanicals and how that process works. The company purchases 95 proof ethanol and infuses flavors on-site. Tour includes samples of all their bottled products. Could be improved by including free cocktail.

Nestled in the lush countryside of Durham, North Carolina, Mystic Farm & Distilling Company offers a rustic wedding venue spread across 22 acres. The idyllic location provides both indoor and outdoor spaces for couples to celebrate their special day. Additionally, it is a bourbon distillery that offers weekend tours and complimentary tastings of its full range of spirits. Visitors can savor the unique blend of spices and honey in the original Mystic bourbon while appreciating the company's commitment to North Carolina agriculture.
Took my husband here for Fathers Day to participate in their distillery tour & it was a great experience. We had a fun time! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

My brother, son & I visited this Distillery to taste some great bourbon while learning about their operations via their weekend tour. The tour consisted of watching some short videos while walking through the Distilling process. We got to view the real equipment used like their fermentation vessels, pumps and heat exchanger. The space is small so very little walking is required. The staff was super friendly, informative and funny. At the end, we got to sample numerous bourbons, gins & vodkas made at their location. My brother couldn't resist to purchase a few bottles to take home to Delaware. If your a bourbon fan, I recommend visiting this quaint little business that has some successful products already available to enjoy!

My friends and I took the Luxury Tasting Tour on Halloween. What a great experience! Jonathan, Mike and Brad were the best. In person, you can tell these guys are 100% invested in distilling the best bourbon. Their character and commitment shines through. They’re not reading scripts or going through the motions. They are proud of their product and happy to share their knowledge. Would absolutely recommend the Mystic Farm experience. Their bourbon is pretty good too. 😉

My husband and I attended the bourbon and chocolate pairing class and it was SO WORTH IT. It was highly interactive and educational, and a lot of fun. You definitely get your money's worth of bourbon and chocolate. It was followed up by an interactive tour of the facility where we got to taste bourbon straight from a barrel and learn about the distilling process. Their facility also employs a lot of regenerative strategies that we really appreciated learning about. The tasting rooms and grounds are beautiful and the staff are super friendly and fun. We highly recommend visiting and will definitely be back for an old-fashioned and a cigar.

Overall Score – 22 out of 10 This spot is definitely unique—but not necessarily in a good way. It’s tucked off a main road in a partly abandoned area, and the setup raises more questions than comfort. The ordering process happens outside with no real help, and the building didn’t feel welcoming or safe. There were no drinks available, and the restroom situation wasn’t clear. While it may have a reputation as a food truck, the physical location isn’t recommended. Dumplings – 5.5 out of 10 These were decent. They tasted fresh, but the quality of ingredients felt questionable. Nothing too memorable, but not bad either.

Ordered online for pick-up, First time there. I was pretty confused with where to go and it took a moment to find someone who could communicate with me. They told me to go to the other side so I did but then they came to hand me my take out food. It was a really nice day so i ate on the picnic table outside. I didn't mind the set up but I could see how it might be inconvenient if or when it gets busy or the weather is not nice. I parked easily right in front but there were few spaces. The food: I wanted to like it but I just did not. The dumplings (pork/chive) were mediocre at best. Very little filling to dough ratio, they were extremely fragile, and the filling had almost no flavor somehow. It needed salt/spices, and it was pretty dry. The sauce was equally lackluster and had almost no taste? Unclear how dipping sauce can be under salted lol. I hoped that dipping them in there would add some flavor but it just didn't unfortunately. I also had a pork bun. The bun looked beautiful and really well done so I was really excited for it but again, it fell flat. Very little filling to dough ratio and it was just bland-- the quality of the meat seemed off somehow. Side note: I pan fried the leftover dumplings later at home and made my own sauce, and they were much better. I have traveled extensively and lived in several countries in Asia and I have a culinary background, so I'm not seeking waterdowned Americanized food or rating them against unrealistic expectations. I was really hoping to find a nice authentic Asian restaurant where I could go regularly, but sadly this just wasn't it. The search for the best dumplings in the triangle continues...
Breezy — Google review
Parking lot is a nightmare. Order for pickup was ready fast and warm, but they included part of someone else’s order in our bag that we returned to them. I could see why some reviews talk about their orders being messed up. The buns, fries or steamed, were dry and didn’t have much filling. The filling inside wasn’t very flavorful. The spicy pork burger had good flavor but felt greasy and dry at the same time. The grease got soaked up by the bun and the meat was dry. The chicken and pork dumplings were good but I would not recommend the shrimp ones. It would also be nice if they offered a fried dumpling option. This place is pretty far out of my way so I am not likely to be a return customer.

Delicious and authentic food! I had the chicken dumplings and vegetarian noodles. That’s some awesome sauce! (Definitely couldn’t finish, and I’m very happy to have leftovers!)

This food is so good! I have been working my way through the menu to try each dish and so far every single one has been delicious. The spring rolls, Rice Noodle with Spicy Beef Mushroom Sauce, and pork burger are all amazing. The hot and sour soup is unique from many others that I have had - it is not the typical thick broth full of mushroom and tofu but a thinner broth with intense spice, sour and málà. It is very flavorful, and one of my favorites. I also get their frozen dumplings to have later. My favorite so far is the Pork Belly Pickled Cabbage, but they have all been excellent.
Zane H — Google review
Stopped on our way driving from Asheville to DC, and go glad we did. We got the pork and cabbage dumplings, spicy cold noodles (perfect for a hot day), and the spicy beef burger. Everything was delicious. The owner came out to ask us if we enjoyed the food, which was really nice. If we hadn't been on a road trip I would have definitely bought some frozen dumplings to go.

Don't get me wrong, I love the food at Sister Liu's especially the pork burgers and dumplings, which I order on repeat. My problem is that my order is sometimes made wrong and I don't get what I paid for. Yesterday I ordered two spicy pork buns for an extra charge. I got one spicy and one regular. Once I paid for dumpling sauce and didn't get it and once I made an online order that didn't go through and I had to order at the shop. I was charged twice for the whole order, but fortunately they refunded the second charge. All I'm saying is double check your order before you leave.

Restaurant
M Tempura, opened by Chef Michael Lee in 2018, offers a unique omakase-style tempura dining experience. Similar to omakase sushi, the chef's choice selection is served one course at a time, ensuring each piece is enjoyed at its freshest and crispiest. The restaurant provides an intimate and cozy setting for savoring quality and thoughtful meals.
Amazing food! We opted for the M omakase experience and loved every tasting menu item we were served. The place is quaint and great to go on dates or with a group of friends and is in the heart of downtown Durham with lots of parking on the streets or garage. We were also fortunate to say hi to Chef Savannah from Top Chef that night. Highly recommend trying it out and we will surely come back again!

We went partially because we’re Top Chef fans, but we were also intrigued by a Japanese brunch. We sat at the bar so we could watch the cooking which was really fun to engage. Please be aware there is no Omakase at brunch, but there’s a whole bunch of intriguing choices and we quite enjoyed it. It is meant to be shared the only challenge we had was picking which dishes to order. We thought the omelette was incredible and I think that was the biggest surprise The only disappointment at least for brunch it doesn’t seem you can trust the online system if there’s space or not. We were driving home so we thought we’d chance to see if we could get in for brunch even though it looked like it might be filled.

Let’s just say this: I went to M Tempura expecting a decent dinner. What I got was a tempura-based love story—with Jennifer as my culinary matchmaker and the chef as my trusty narrator. Dining solo here doesn’t mean dining in silence. Jennifer, my waitress and now spiritual flavor guide, suggested I add the *brie course* to my tempura tasting. I hesitated. Brie? With tempura? Ma’am… YES. Brie, nori, honey, and truffle in one bite? I don’t know what kind of culinary witchcraft that was, but I’d follow it into battle. Or at least into another reservation. Every course was thoughtfully prepared, with the chef offering insights that made me slow down and actually *think* about what I was eating. It wasn’t just dinner—it was a little education in flavor. The tempura itself? A revelation. Light, crisp, not drowning in batter like your usual “tempura adjacent” spots. You could *actually* taste the ingredient inside. And let me tell you, the root vegetable course? Delicate. Earthy. Unexpectedly elegant. To top it off, the ginger ice cream was the kind of palate cleanser that makes you consider skipping dessert for the rest of your life because nothing else will live up. Would I go back? I’m already planning my return like it’s a second date with someone who actually listens. **Pro tips:** * Go with the tasting menu if you're not starving—plenty of food, but no food coma. * Don’t skip the brie add-on. Seriously. * Sit at the bar for chef interaction if you're solo—makes the experience that much richer. This isn’t just a dinner spot—it’s a damn delight.

Incredible 7 course omakase! All the bites were perfectly prepared and the soft shelled shrimp were very fun. The wine pairing went great with the courses. It did take a little time between bites and we were there for about 3 hours total. I think this menu is the best bang for your buck compared to all the tasting menu options across the m restaurants.

reserved online with open table. you need to preselect your experience and put a credit card. Got the tempura experience for 75. it included several small dishes through you the night and a variety of tempura followed by a small rice dish, miso soup and ginger ice cream.. the first shrimp tempura was heavenly !! overall the experience was really nice. it took around 2 hours to complete. we had our reservation at 7:15 and felt we had to rush at the end since they close at 9. maybe don't let people reserve that ? other than probably from the best restaurants I had in Durham ! book this for your next date night or special gathering !

My partner and I came here for our 13th wedding anniversary — we don’t live in Durham but we were visiting my in-laws. It’s long been on my list because of Top Chef but I was still totally floored by the experience. It was the best meal I’ve had in a very long time. We had the M Omakase with beverage pairing. It was very well-paced and every course was a pleasant surprise. Standouts were the tempura shrimp, scallop, and house-cured trout roe. I also loved the meal, miso-marinated seabass on rice with the barley tea dashi that came halfway through. It took an already so deluxe dish to the next level. The service was attentive but not overbearing. We had a lovely time, thank you! Can’t wait to come back.

Phenomenal experience with the crew at M Tempura. We opted for the M Omakase tasting menu and blown away with the 7 courses. Our water was never empty for longer than 10 minutes. This restaurant is top tier when it comes to service and deserves more praise than what they receive.

An amazing restaurant to try if you are a sea food and fish lover and also appreciate fresh produce. I particularly went there to meet Chef Savannah (a Top Chef Finalist). It was amazing to see how friendly she was and she interacts with you while cooking if you are at the bar seating (would definitely recommend that). We went there to celebrate our 6 month wedding anniversary and had a great experience. We had the M Omakase meal and loved every bit of it. The menu progression is amazing. It starts off with chawanmushi (Japanese savory custard). It is creamy and had a good umami from the walnut oil and trout roe. The salmon crudo was bright and fragrant. Next was the dolma and my favorite dish of the menu. It had a very unique flavor to it. Next were the tempuras and all of the them were out of the world. The batter was the best I had so far. Every produce was fresh. The meal with miso marinated seabass was great. Overall, a highly recommended restaurant. Everything was seasoned well and the service was fast.

The Durham Hotel is a stylish and hip accommodation located in downtown Durham. Housed in a former bank from 1937, the hotel offers 125 rooms with Deborah Berke-designed interiors that blend Art Deco elements with modern amenities. The hotel features multi-level galleries showcasing a rotating collection of contemporary art, which is open to the public around the clock.
Love the retro vibe here. Clean rooms with good amount of in room amenities. Roof top bar and restaurant has amazing views of the sunset. Food options are plenty. We have hosted 2 happy hours here. Easy to work with staff to design the menu you want.

Critiques: there was a pizza box in the fridge when we checked in. Our view was of a sky light (legit couldn’t see the sky unless you looked up with your face against the window). Rags from house keeping were left in our room. Glows: Try every and all F&B options. Drinks on roof are super reasonable and obviously a great view. Coffee and brunch in the lobby was amazing, both food and drinks. The coffee for the room schtick was fine. Location was perfect! If it’s your jam try the yoga on the roof, was a nice little add on to end the stay.

The location is perfect for anyone visiting the city. They have a very nice rooftop bar with menu options. Staff were great. The hotel is a little older but it is well maintained and had a cool retro vibe. I would stay here again

Excellent roof top bar to watch the sunset. Interesting to see the ever changing skyline of Durham due to all the elite investors building sky rises and gentrifying the neighborhoods. But the drinks were good and the bartender quick to serve.

Loved my 3 night stay here. Everything was fantastic. The rooms are spotless and comfy, and the food was great. Excellent service all around by the crew here, too. Don't miss the brunch or the daiquiris!

The rooms are OK however for the price I would not book again also here for a work trip and it’s 10 PM and there’s crappy techno music blaring from the downstairs patio. Can’t fall asleep the only truly good thing about this is the location? If you’re here for fun and don’t mind loud blaring music laid into the evening and then this place is for you.

I booked the penthouse suite for our wedding weekend (July 10-12) and it was okay, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to others. We paid around $725 per night, including taxes. The one thing that the Durham has going for it is that it is located in a very convenient spot downtown. The penthouse served as a good meeting point for our families and could comfortably seat 5 (probably 10 if the weather is good for using the included patio space). There are great places within walking distance from the hotel. However, everything else was kind of meh. For the amount of money we paid, there were little to no amenities. There was some nicer toiletries and in-room coffee, but no breakfast or parking, or anything else you might want for the price. The building is nice, but shows signs of wear. There was constantly a line for the elevator because it is the slowest elevator you've ever encountered and can only fit a few guests at a time. The penthouse suite again was fine, but I might have even preferred any other room in the building. The "view of Durham" that is highlighted is just the surrounding views of every parking garage downtown. The living room furniture is more ~aesthetic than comfortable. The bed was nice and included what my husband called JEETS (jean sheets). The bathroom was large, but had bad lighting and a shower that reminded me of a public pool locker room (not really in cleanliness, mostly just looks). I was a little concerned because none of the door locks in the suite locked, except for the main door. The included patio was spacious, but often loud because there's only a half metal wall that separates it from the rooftop bars. Tl;dr penthouse was okay, but not worth the cost

Booked a corner king room 6 months ago for a mid-week show. Got a call 3 days before that room is no longer available. When I asked why the person had no idea. And said they basically book rooms like the airline industry. They overbook. When I asked why I got ‘screwed’ he had no idea either. They offered a double room at a slightly discounted rate (still $350) and 2 free drinks. Would rather Uber home!! Any local hotel who runs their hotel like the airline industry has lost my business!!

Nestled in the heart of downtown, Kotuku Surf Club is a vibrant tavern that exudes a laid-back beachy atmosphere. Adorned with vintage signs and surfboards, this eclectic spot offers an array of activities to unwind after a long day. With its spacious outdoor area often buzzing with food trucks and live DJs, it’s the perfect place to soak up some sun while enjoying a drink.
I was first introduced to the Surf Club as a vendor during @thriftabull. The atmosphere is amazing and took me back to a time when things were simple. The staff was super friendly 😀

Lots of people with dogs and chatting to each other. this is a real community bar and the artwork and Enamel signs in the bar are just outstanding run by a kiwi so you can come here for all of your rugby information.😂 🇳🇿

Walked in to inquire if someone could help me with my getting home problems because I didn’t have enough on my card I was going to give them cash to help me get home and the girl bartender gave me a mean mug look as if I was lying or just a bum on the street. Front door people were nice but the girl bartender should have more customer service when dealing with customers who have a problem. She could’ve kindly said “no I’m sorry” instead of giving me some weird look. 5 stars for the front door people! Major 1 star for her! She had on a pink sweater

Missed a great opportunity to show off a cool place. 30 minute lines to get a beer. Way understaffed. Could have sold 3X the beer. And a very rude bartender. I could deal with but offended friends. None of us will make an effort to return. I would have emailed them directly and not on public display, but they have no contact info ....

Best described as a hippie, pride, retro, dive bar. Atmosphere doesn’t seem very welcoming to outsiders and newcomers. Smells like a fraternity basement in the back near shuffle board. Taco food truck is good. Venue serves until 2am.

Visiting my brother in Durham and he took us to Nuvo Taco. The food and service were excellent. A very casual and fun atmosphere, it was very busy while we were there. Between 3 people we had tacos with chicken, garlic beef, chorizo, grilled shrimp, and pork. We had a side of esquite street corn which was super delicious.

Yummy food, friendly service, fun atmosphere. The drinks were a little pricey but tasted great. We got mango margaritas, tacos, queso and street corn. I like the portion size and food quality. The beef taco meat wasn’t what I expected consistency wise but still tasted good. I would recommend fried shrimp instead of grilled for the taco but again still tastes great. The restaurant was busy. There’s indoor and outdoor seating. You can order from your table with an app or from a server. There’s a nice self serve area full of a big variety of hot sauces. This place is perfect for a date night or family. Kid friendly although indoors the noise level is moderate. There are a few TVs with sports playing. Would recommend this place and will be back.

Have I not reviewed NuvoTaco yet?? Best Mexican food in Durham. My family and I love this place and have probably been a few dozen times. We take every visitor from out of town here. We have a few different diet restrictions and they are so accommodating. Food is fabulous, quick, and affordable. Incredibly convenient to order from our table, although you can order with a person as well. Approachable and adorable atmosphere. Good for a casual date or a family outing. We always sit at their outdoor seating, which has fans and heaters depending on the season. At the table in this photo, you could fit 8 people. Hard to find parking, but there is a reason.

This was my first time visiting NuvoTaco. I’ve always rode past, but never stopped for chow. I enjoyed the quick service & friendly staff. They ensured we had everything we needed. I ordered the $12 lunch special and it was filling.
Daija F — Google review
I love the atmosphere of NuvoTaco. But the food was pretty much on par with a lot of other places. It seemed like the chicken in my burrito was sitting in a pan in lots of water/juice that washed off most of the seasoning it may have had during the cooking process. So the food didn't have much flavor. It was a good quantity, and well packed, but lacking some flavor. Service was fine, but it would be a stretch to say that it was anything above average. The atmosphere is fun, trendy with it's little lounge, and the decor. I wouldn't say to someone, you HAVE to go to NuvoTaco, but more along the lines of... "Hey, it's nearby, we can just meet up there." sort of thing.
Adam S — Google review
I recently had the opportunity to visit your establishment for the first time, and I wanted to share some feedback from my experience. While I appreciate the effort put into the preparation of the meals, I must express my disappointment with the outcome. Despite discussing my preferences with one of your staff members regarding the tacos, the actual presentation did not align with what was communicated. The individual tacos with separate meats were not what I had anticipated, and the portion sizes left much to be desired.Furthermore, the taste of the vegetables lacked seasoning, and the margaritas tasted overly sour, resembling more of a lemon-lime flavor than the expected taste. Additionally, the quantity of avocado provided with the chips was inadequate, and I did not receive the requested pico de gallo on the side.As someone who appreciates the flavors of authentic Mexican cuisine, I had hoped for a more satisfying experience, especially considering the investment of $30. I believe that regardless of whether the meal is dine-in or takeout, consistency in quality and taste should be maintained.I offer this feedback with the intention of providing constructive criticism and hope that it can be used to improve the overall dining/take out experience for future customers. While my first visit may have left much to be desired, I am open to the possibility of giving your establishment another chance in the future. Thank you for taking the time to consider my feedback. -Ty

We've been coming here for several years, starting back when it was NanaTaco. Overall the food is very good. Margaritas are excellent. Stick with the afterburn marg and you can't go wrong. This visit we had garlic beef burritos and nachos. The garlic beef had great flavor, good cut of meat. They aren't as large as they used to be, but still good. The cucumber salsa was very refreshing with the nachos. I do miss the different salsas and and sides they used to have which were amazing! The ordering system is all electronic which I'm sure some love, but I like to order in person to be able to ask questions and make any changes needed. The place has a nice relaxed atmosphere, fun for friends or just hanging out any say of the week. Can't go wrong here.

Randy's Pizza is a local chain that has been serving New York-style pizzas, pasta, wings, subs, and stromboli in a casual setting for over 25 years. They offer classic toppings and giant slices for individual enjoyment or large 30" pies for sharing with family and friends. Customers praise the consistently delicious pizza and commend the exceptional customer service provided by the staff and owner. The restaurant is known for its comfort food, particularly their highly recommended chicken Philly sandwich.
What a great pizza! Just got into town for work and was hungry so I went to the closest pizza spot down the road. Wasn’t expecting much, but dang was I wrong. The Margherita pizza is worth your time.
Yolanda A — Google review
First time trying Randy's Pizza while visiting the Raleigh-Durham area. I picked this place because the description mentioned it was a local chain serving NY style pizza. When I hear local chain, I think of a mom and pop business that was so successful they opened multiple places. Their website mentions they opened their first restaurant in 1995 and now have eight in the Raleigh-Durham area. My to go order was a large margherita pizza, a side of garlic knots and jalapeno poppers appetizer. I ordered in the store and waited 15-20 minutes (no complaints on the wait) and had a seven minute drive back to where I was staying. The pizza and jalapeno poppers were cold. I was surprised that after only a seven minute drive, they were cold. The crust was a little hard and tough to bite through. The jalapeno poppers tasted like the same kind you can buy at the wholesale clubs. I know there are a lot of positive reviews for this place, which was another factor in choosing it, but I've had far better pizza from the national chains. The employees were an absolute pleasure to interact with and patient with me while I ordered.

Randy’s Pizza located at 5311 S Miami Blvd, Durham, NC 27703 is a large pizza chain in the Raleigh area. Many locations across the area. Their slices are quite large, huge actually, and cheaply priced. Crust is a soft bottom crust, and the cheese and toppings are generous. It was good, not great at all. I only got 2 slices, which is ate about half of and discarded them. My slice of mushroom, the toppings were added on after taking a slice of cheese and heating it up. That never melds the flavors!! Manager who was at the register was great and welcoming to everyone.
David B — Google review
My 2-star review is based on the quality of the food and most definitely the customer service experience. Placed an order for steak and cheese subs and specifically asked that they be prepared a certain way. I was quite clear and was sure to reiterate what I wanted on the subs and not to toast them. Well clearly the listening and comprehension skills were low that night because I got home only to discover the order was incorrect and not even close to what was requested when the order was placed. We definitely got someone else's order. Not sure how this happened given that there weren't any other customers waiting at the time of placing the order. Called the manager immediately to complain and was told that I could return next day for a do over (I did take a picture of the sandwiches to show that they were incorrect as well as my flushing them down the drain...proof that we did not eat them). Next day, returned to Randy's, but not for a remake of the subs given that were not good anyway (at least what we tasted) and the rolls were not the 'soft' authentic sub rolls we've always been accustomed to. Given that we could not order anything else, we opted for the refund. The manager was not there/available, so the assistant manager stepped in to assist. She did not know how to process refunds and was visibly frazzled and stressed because she had way too many things to do to spend time on this issue, which she had no problem emphasizing this in front of us. She stated the manager was unable to walk her through the steps to process refunds over the phone, so she informed us that he was on his way in to help. We waited, but still no manager. While she apologized, she was still very visibly frazzled and stressed about not being able to assist and stated "I wish I could help but no one trained me how to do this... So, I don't know how." Well, this is not how you should react or something you should say in front of customers. You are the assistant manager!! Still waiting for the manager to arrive and by this time we'd probably been waiting for about 45 minutes or so to get this matter fixed. At no time were we offered a drink or anything for the inconvenience of the situation and having to wait so long.... nothing, just stood there!! The manager never showed up, but the assistant manager was finally able to issue the refunds. This was quite an experience for this Randy's Pizza. Definitely won't be visiting this location again.

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is a vintage-style chain known for its delicious steakburgers, hot dogs, and other fast-food classics, as well as their signature frozen custard. Customers rave about the perfectly balanced burger-to-meat ratio and the great flavor of the smash burgers. The thin fries are also a hit despite not being a fan of skinny fries. Many first-time visitors found the chicken tenders to be flavorful and enjoyed their meals.
I am currently in town at Home2Suites for a Business Trip with Bridgestone Retail Operations and wanted to get some dinner one night at a place close by so I did not have to drive. Ordered online from Freddys and walked inside to pick it up, I came a bit early so I had to wait, no worries. Upon picking up my food, I noticed I didn’t have the seasoning bottle I ordered. It was around 6$ so I was a bit upset. I asked the staff if maybe they had forgot it, and they informed me sadly they were out. I was disappointed at first, but then Mrs. Shenelle at the front counter told me to hold on and she will be right back. She came back with a HANDFUL, of seasoning packets! I was not expecting that, and that completely flipped my night around, completely not even upset about the missing seasoning Bottle anymore! I will be in town multiple times this year upcoming, and I definitely know where i will be coming back to when I’m in town! Always loved Freddy’s as the French Fries are unbeatable! But now I have a reason to come back even more! Thank you guys at Freddy’s, and thank you Mrs. Shenelle! God bless! And man was this food tasty!

Walking thru the door I was impressed. I love the decor and christmas decoration. The people that waited on us were super friendly. No complaints on that end. My biggest complaint was with the food. My sandwich was ok, nothing special. I didn't care for the fries. Too small for my taste.

The burger and fries were amazing. The problem was that they were out of most of the sides. They had fries, no chips, no onion rings and no tots. Also most of the drinks were without syrup and they had no ketchup. I know places have off days but this was really off. Will try again. The food was great.

Amazing food. I got a jalapeno double burger and it was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. My wife got the prime steak Burger and that one was even better than mine. Customer service was outstanding they helped fill the drinks and help carry the food out of the car and there was a small mistake and they were happy to fix it and didn't criticize or make me out to feel like I was trying to steal from them. Alexis and Shimmy went above and beyond. This is my first time eating at Freddy's and it definitely will not be my last time. This place is slept on, don't go to McDonald's or Burger King when you can get this amazing food at the same price or cheaper. Thank you guys. Family of six with 4 kids and this food put smiles on everybody's face. Thanks again Alexis and Shimmy for providing what a shining example of customer service. If all employees were like this I don't see why they shouldn't be paid 20 an hour. Thank you

It’s my first time trying out Freddy’s! I found their chicken tenders to be flavorful! 😋 The other two members of my crew also found their meals to be yummy! I’m not usually the one to eat fries, but good gracious, their fries (which were quite thin versus other fast-food restaurant fries) were delicious! I will definitely consider returning to this restaurant and location when I crave fast-food again! 😃

They accidentally gave my frozen custards to the wrong person and somehow ended up with an extra one. But I got free onion rings and a tea, and I had only paid for the sandwich even though I asked for a combo. The sandwich and onion rings were just okay—I'd give them 2⭐. That said, the free stuff made the trip worth it. It seemed like the staff might’ve been having a rough day, and that’s okay. The frozen shakes, though? 5⭐. I’ll definitely be back for those. This was my first visit, so maybe the mix-up was just a one-off.

I couldn’t even eat it all in one sitting. Fries were pretty good, have to eat them immediately because they’ll get hard and aren’t as enjoyable; onion rings were good though & lastly, I created my own concrete (vanilla scoop and M&Ms and it was good too! Jimmy's Famous Hot Dogs is a must-visit spot for hot dog lovers. The place has an old-school charm and the hot dogs are made by a seasoned cook with over 25 years of experience. The 'all the way' dogs, onion rings, and fish sandwich are highly recommended. The catfish is particularly outstanding with its delicious batter. Despite the long lines, the staff efficiently manages to serve everyone in a timely manner.
Today, our family enjoyed a delicious meal at Jimmy's. We feasted on a variety of options, including juicy burgers cooked to order, classic hot dogs, and flavorful catfish fillets. The catfish was particularly light and flavorful, and we enjoyed it alongside a side of crispy fries. To top it off, we couldn't resist the irresistible banana pudding – a true highlight of the meal. Jimmy's is a Durham institution, and it consistently delivers on quality food. We highly recommend it!

Although the food is somewhat cheaper than competitors, the taste is quite underwhelming. The burger has an odd sweet/ashy flavor, not sure if it’s coming from the bun or the meat, but I couldn’t finish it. The hot dog was an odd orange color that put me off after the first bite. The only thing I kind of enjoyed was the onion rings and the corn dog. The overall atmosphere of the establishment was exactly what you’d expect, older, kind of dirty and dingy. The workers were very nice, but I shouldn’t see a worker rubbing her mouth/nose with her hand and then proceeding to use that same hand to touch the bread that is toasting on the cooktop.

The food and prices here are unbeatable! I’ve been here several times now and have never been disappointed with the food (which is diner/ grease joint style, so if that’s not your thing, then this review isn’t for you). Highlights: the fried catfish is, no lie, the BEST fried catfish I’ve ever had. The banana pudding is so good (this coming from a super picky banana pudding addict). The banana pudding milkshake is truly next level, they use the banana pudding to make the milkshake. Lemonade - their lemonade is homemade and it’s amazing. I have to give this place 5 stars for all of that. The only (somewhat) negative about this place is the young guy with dreads who is often working the counter. He’s usually just really indifferent, which is fine. But occasionally I think he be sucking on those lemons instead of lemonade, and is in a bad mood even when you’re trying to be super friendly back, which dampens the vibe. Overall, though, Jimmys is a heavy hitter; the type of joint you go to when you need the prices to be affordable, the food to be artery-clogging goodness, and the atmosphere to be “get me in and out” casual.

Stopped into this little spot on the way out of Durham. We got the catfish dinner with fried okra and Jimmy dog "all the way". The counter person was super helpful walking us through the menu. The fish was amazing as was the okra. They have malt vinegar for the fish which was a nice option. The dogs had chili, cheese, slaw and mustard - yummo! And the homemade desserts were a nice touch (wish I would have gotten a banana pudding for the road.)
Heather O — Google review
Locals only American cuisine. Like, there's homemade banana pudding on offer. Nathan's Frank's and chili dogs. All people on both sides of the counter. The crinkle fries are the best. You could get in with a wheelchair but it would be tight. Great option for kids and grandparents. If you don't like a place with a squirt bottle of ketchup on every table, keep moving.

Absolutely disgusted by my visit to Jimmy’s Famous Hot Dogs today. The lady cook behind the counter wasn’t wearing gloves while handling food, touching buns, working the grill, handling cooking utensils and equipment, then going right back to touching food again without ever washing her hands. I watched her make two other meals before mine and not once did she wash up. It was a blatant case of cross-contamination, and it’s unacceptable. As for the food itself? Tasteless. The hot dog had zero flavor aside from purely tasting mustard, and the fries were just as bad, no seasoning, no salt, and definitely no care put into them. The fryer was visibly coated in old grease stains that clearly weren’t from just today. If that’s what’s on the surface, I can only imagine what’s lurking underneath. I won’t be back. And if you care about cleanliness or flavor, I’d strongly recommend staying away too
Oscar R — Google review
I go here once a year when I have to attend Duke for medical reasons. I always stop here. The hot dogs and fries are on point every time. The full Jimmy all the way is the best. The lemonade is amazing. Stop in and enjoy.
Jason T — Google review
If you love a good hotdog such as myself... this is the place for you to try. The line was long but that's expected at a restaurant with tasty food. The workers did get everyone through the line in a timely manner. The hotdog was good and juicy with a soft bun nothing to fancy. The chilli on it made it standout from any other hotdog I ever had! The chicken wings was perfect size, fresh, crispy, and seasoning was not over powering. The dining area is on the small size and have a old fashion look to it but it was clean. Food was great, nice staff, and clean dining area. I would recommend this place you will not be disappointed.

The team consistently strives to ensure an outstanding customer experience during every visit.
Great smash burger that looked almost as good as the photo! The service was great and fast with all hot food. Restaurant was clean and not very busy when we arrived at 430pm on a Thurs.

Really good burgers fries and drinks! I actually live 2.40 hrs away. But ALWAYS stop by before leaving Durham. Customizable with single or double patties and super fresh toppings! They have your typical Coke fountain drinks but also some specialty fruit/lemonade refreshers and great Häägan-Dazs shakes! The Smash fries are the best! Great staff and music.
Dianne C — Google review
Burgers are great. Have ordered a few times. Customer service today was abysmal. I walked in to pick up my online — no greeting. Employee was standing off to the side playing on their phone with their back completely turned to customers. I approached and stood nearby her to give her the opportunity to acknowledge me. She did not. Eventually, I asked her where we should pickup online orders. She did not smile but asked for my name. Handed me my order and then, presumably, turned back to her phone as I left. There’s zero customer service atmosphere here. The refrigerated display at the cashier area is completely empty and the cashier area unstaffed. It would’ve been okay had the staff member at the pickup area at least been tasked with keeping a lookout for customers and greeting them.
J. B — Google review
The food was excellent and reasonably priced—$77 for four people. However, the customer service left a lot to be desired. We weren’t greeted upon arrival, and there appeared to be noticeable tension among the staff, which affected the overall dining experience. Oh and we drove an hour to come here.

Bacon cheese fries soggy and undercooked. Barely any cheese or bacon. The smoked brisket burger was great, no complaints there. The staff on the other hand. While it wasn't all the staff just a few who were really rude. It was my first and last time being a customer at this establishment.

One of the best burgers I've ever had. Ever. All places have struggled after Covid so I'm not gonna crucify them for issues that are out of their control. Considering the context (fast-ish food), and being realistic for the establishment, the burger is amazing. Keaton is a great manager and when he's in the building I can guarantee my burger and fries are gonna be "chef's kiss" every time. My burger is always tasty. I leave full and happy.

Five Guys, a fast-food chain renowned for its customizable burgers, fries, and hot dogs, offers patrons complimentary peanuts to enjoy while they wait for their made-to-order meals. Recently, Wake County restaurants underwent inspections by Five On Your Side's Keely Arthur. One popular burger joint that stood out with an impeccable record was Five Guys. Notably, the establishment maintained exceptional cleanliness standards throughout its premises; even the floors appeared almost flawless.
For a burger joint, this is one of the best! You actually leave there feeling full, the meat quality is excellent, watch out with the milkshakes, you won't be able to stop ingesting them! (I didn't know if you drink or eat a milkshake 🤔)
Stephen C — Google review
Go to another location. Context: Five Guys is my favorite burger chain. I’ve found that not all locations are the same when it comes to service and quality. This location messes up my order about 60% of the time. Today I ordered a hamburger with lettuce ketchup and mayo. I received a little cheeseburger instead (if they had cheddar cheese I’d consider eating it). I ordered other things for my family as well and there were a few additional mistakes. If you go here, unwrap and check every one of your burgers before leaving. Unfortunately, I was the road already when I opened mine to a big disappointment. I won’t be returning here anymore.

Burger was delicious, fries cooked and salted perfectly. The girl working the register is a literal ray of sunshine, so cheerful. We got a small fry which was more than enough for both of us.

They hooked me up! I like my burgers like I like my women: Thick, spicy and messy.😜 The crew acknowledged & honored all of my toppings, which were pretty much everything and they didn't cheat me on the cajun fries either. I ordered a Oreo shake, but they threw a vanilla 1 at me instead. It's all good though, I'm an equal opportunity milkshake drinker.🌈 Everything was hot & fresh and pretty much ready to go when I walked over from the Springhill Suites. Don't think about, just order. Enjoy!

21$ for a cheeseburger and fries. Took forever and the kid had the nerve to turn the ipad around and ask for more money????? Just take your family to Cheesecake Factory it’s the same price 😂

Stopped by for Milkshake and it was tasty. You can add real bacon pieces to add salty/savory flavor which actually works very well with the sweetness of the milkshake. Other toppings include oreo pieces, strawberry, banana, salted caramel, chocolate, and also whip cream on top. Friendly staff. Also free salted peanuts. Outdoor seatings available.

If you're on the hunt for a slice of New York in Durham, look no further than Devil's Pizzeria. This cozy eatery serves up massive NYC-style pizzas that boast a perfectly crispy crust, alongside an array of Italian favorites like calzones and cheesesteaks. The atmosphere is simple yet inviting, making it the perfect spot for late-night cravings. But don't overlook their chicken wings; they're some of the best in town!
Absolutely divine food! The pizza has a wonderful sauce/cheese/dough ratio. The sauce has such a wonderful aromatic aftertaste that tastes like a delicious homemade meal. I also had the pleasure of trying their lasagna and it really reminded me of my mom's: made with love and lots of amazing herbs. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the sauce was incredible and the cheese 🤤 I mean just look at this beautiful picture! Prices are absolutely phenomenal too and there's something on the menu for everyone. The Tuesday night special is a pizza godsend. Everyone is so nice at the restaurant itself and it smells heavenly. Just a nice little spot for a delicious dinner.

As someone who is currently interning and has been trying new food places, I saw this restaurant and decided to place an order (as I had been craving a Philly cheesesteak for the past 2 weeks and wanted to venture outside of Jersey Mike’s). And Let me just start off by saying O-M-G!!!!! I ordered online, and the food was ready on time just as I arrived (about 25 minutes.) I ordered the Philly cheesesteak sub and a Philly Stromboli; my friend ordered ziti pasta with a side salad, and boneless wings (garlic lemon pepper.) All of it was AMAZING!! The Philly cheesesteak sub was perfect, I added mushrooms and jalapeños (just a personal preference), and the vinaigrette sauce was such a PERFECT addition, it brought all of the ingredients together; the sub reminded me of a restaurant from my hometown that closed years ago (found out the owner actually worked at that same restaurant during his college years). The Stromboli was also DELICIOUS, i think it’s my favorite thing that we ordered. I added banana peppers to mine just because I knew it would tie in very well, it was super cheesy, but not overbearingly cheesy (because too much can sometimes ruin a stromboli.) Another thing, Don’t let these reviews fool you, that ziti pasta was also GREAT!! It had lots of flavor, and you could tell it’s a house-made tomato sauce. 😋 The only thing I would complain about is the saltiness of the seasoning on the wings, but I think that’s just because we got garlic lemon pepper lol. The customer service was 10/10, the owner and lady on the register were super nice and we had a nice conversation as my friend was waiting on her food to come out. Overall, I would 100000% recommend this restaurant, and I will be going again before I leave Durham.
Sharidan O — Google review
Got this pizza as a takeout on a trip, and it did not disappoint! I ordered the cheesesteak pizza, and swapped out the sauce for traditional marinara. The crust is chewy and supports the weight of the toppings without being too thick. The cheese was perfectly crispy. Only thing I wish I had was a sauce to dip the crust in! The customer service was 5 stars, I was able to call in the order over the phone and they called me back when it was ready. Was a perfect pizza to fulfill that ny style craving and i definitely would order again!

The food was amazing! The customer service was excellent! I got a Philly cheese steak sandwich that was super juicy and a side of fries that were crispy to perfection! I also got a tiramisu that was bomb! The price was not bad at all! Definitely recommend!

We had such a great experience at Devil’s Pizzeria! The food was absolutely delicious — the cheese ravioli was perfectly cooked and rich with flavor, the sweet chili wings had the perfect balance of heat and sweetness, and the pepperoni bacon pizza was everything you’d want in a comfort slice: crispy, cheesy, and loaded with toppings. On top of the great food, the staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. The owner even came by to check on us and make sure everything was just right — it’s clear they genuinely care about their customers. This place has that perfect combo of amazing food and hometown hospitality. Highly recommend! We’ll definitely be back. 🍕🔥🍝🍗

PDQ Restaurant is a chicken shop and fast food spot that offers sandwiches and more. It has four stars out of 106 reviews on Yelp, indicating that it's popular with diners. According to reviewers, the service is usually good, the food tastes great, and the value is good. The only complaint some have is that the salad base can be a little disappointing.
PDQ Durham located at 3301 Watkins Rd, Durham, NC 27707 has fantastic chicken sandwiches!!! One of the best of the best fried Chicken sandwiches I’ve had basically ever. Perfect crunchy breading, cooked juicy, and the thing was really large too! Only change would be I’d make it just a touch less salty, but perfect otherwise. I don’t like much sodium at all, so for most it’s perfection. I didn’t get the zucchini fries but will next time. Their prices are pretty low too for what quality is given. Staff was friendly too! Seats comfortable and the shops is spacious. Great food spot! I’d also recommend using closed caption for the various TV sets. Store temperature was perfect too.

It was late afternoon and I needed to eat something quick. Drove to the drive through and waited, didn’t see any intercom or speaker so drove around. Stopped at another area with a glass window but no one was working there. Just pulled around and hoped someone at the final window could take my order. There were 2 cars ahead and it took awhile to reach the end. Ordered the chicken sandwich with some kind of sauce on it. Drove to the side parking lot to just eat it in the car. The chicken was cold and the rest of the sandwich was just plain: no lettuce or pickle. I ate it anyway but don’t recommend. $7.30 total

I looooove PDQ. They have great milkshakes. And it's fast food but not a bunch of junk like these other places. They have salads, chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches...sides like broccoli, beans and rice, fries, Tater Tots, apple slices that are soaked in pineapple juice and served with toffee dip. It's so good. I come here all the time. The only down-side is when I used to get their green tea it tasted like perfume. Even their kids meal has a juice box option. One of my favorites on 15-501 for a fast food place that's not just burgers and fries.

First off, this place has the cleanest restrooms and best smelling soap. We went inside just to use the restroom and then went through the drive through. The lady who took our order was super nice! I wasn’t super hungry so I got a kids meal and my son got a 5 piece strip meal. Come to find out the kid meal was free on Easter Sunday! Win for us! We asked for extra salt which wasn’t easy for them to find. We really don’t need extra salt. We parked to eat and you know a lady walked salt out to us? Say what?!?! Their chicken really is delicious! Thanks for the free kids meal today!

Went there ordered 8 pieces of Spicy nuggets meal. The food was delicious. But the amount of sauce in that 1 oz. cup are less than half. If you guys want to be saved. I recommend to just give one cup but full, so you guys don’t have give two cups to waste more cups/lids.

Personally, I had high hopes in this place. It wasn’t very good. You had to order from a tablet. All the employees had a frown on their face. The kitchen area looked dirty and disorganized. They didn’t wear gloves. The girl bagging food touched her hair. Nasty. The food was ok. That’s it. Ok.

Ordered tenders and the Mediterranean salads for a couples baby shower! Order was ready perfectly on time, and the service was fantastic. It was the perfect snack for our particular crowd/needs, and of course super tasty! We love PDQ!

Not bad! Just "okay" in my opinion. Cleanliness: 4/5. Dining room was clean. Bathroom could have used some touching up. Quality: 3/5. The chicken sandwich was good. Presentation was also good. But tasted just like something you'd get from a chik filet and Wendy's. Service: 4/5. It was good. Food came out quick, but the zucchini fries are limp and were of small quantity for a $5 side.

I bought some food from the noodle company about 45 minutes ago, the one at 2608 Erwin Rd, Durham, NC 27705. One of their dishes I purchased was a salad. As one of the ladies was preparing my salad, with gloves on, the mentioned to the young lady who was working the cash register that they were out of lettuce. Both ladies went in the back and retrieved a large container of lettuce. The young lady who worked the register used her bare hands to scoop lettuce from the large container into a smaller one. I did not see any hand washing or sanitizing, but to be honest, I do not know what occurred in the back. I was taken aback by the young lady who was working the register directly handing the food without gloves. All I could think of was this is how people get ill. After I was given my food (to go) I called her over to the side and told her that she should wear gloves. She replied, and I quote, “Oh we do not wear gloves here ma’am”. I looked at the chef and the other lady that worked there and they clearly have on gloves. I think I even thanked them for wearing gloves. I then walked away in shock and mumbled to myself that I cannot believe this was the response, etc. Can someone tell me if this is normal? Am I out of line for requesting gloves to be on a food service worker who is handling the cash register/money/credit cards, etc that can be dirty? I am new to the Durham area so I just want to know what to expect.

Food came out very quickly. Ordered an entre, side, and drink and they tried to charge us all separately since we didn’t say the word “combo”. I tried to explain that we wanted the combo before swiping my card and they said that the order already went through. It wasn’t until I said I’d just leave that they figured out how to make the change. They were out of steak so I had to get meatballs. They have a coke remix machine and had all flavors available.

Went through drive thru 10 July 2024. Poor communication at order speaker. Employee not friendly. Took an excessive time for my 2 donuts and a coffee. Looking inside the store looked unorganized and chaotic. My order was filled correctly but one of the donuts was partly raw and I received 6 creamers. A waste and extra expense for the store. Chipotle Mexican Grill is a popular fast-food chain known for its customizable Mexican dishes like burritos, tacos, and bowls. Customers can personalize their orders with a variety of ingredients. Many patrons praise the friendly staff and generous portions at various locations. Some have particularly enjoyed the experience at specific branches, expressing satisfaction with the service and food quality.
I’ve been bearing this chipotle because it’s in a convenient location for me, but I think I’ve reached the end of my rope. For at least a year, the hand sanitizer dispenser has been broken and/or empty, the meat is not infrequently overcooked and dry, and the lettuce is very often not fully cut through so it’s long and stringy. That, I could handle. But today, I looked down in between inhalations of my (overcooked) steak bowl and found some sort of winged creature. Maybe a fly, maybe something else, I don’t know and I don’t care. I immediately lost my appetite and left in disgust. Safe to say, I will not be returning to this location.

I’am not sure why the beans were undercooked and taste like water, the rice seems like they used too much water as well. The chicken was like shredded chicken and seems burnt. Seems like they served the food from the previous night. I didn’t go in. I had my daughter to go inside and this was around opening time. Never again. Go to another chipotle because trust me if I would have checked the food before leaving and headed back my way I would have returned it for my money back. I had everyone in the car to try the food to make sure it wasn’t just me. Taste like what I think dog food would taste like.

I’ve been to this Chipotle several times over the past two weeks, but unfortunately, I’ve consistently experienced stomach discomfort after eating here. At first, I thought it might be a personal issue, but I’ve had no problems eating at home or other restaurants. I’m not sure if it’s related to undercooked meat or a broader food safety concern, but it’s definitely something worth noting. I’d recommend anyone planning to eat here to be cautious.

When we walked in we said the place needs to be wiped down immediately!! The counter they serve food on was highly dirty and the food was all over the place, the food was cross contaminated. Our food was decent. While we were eating my sister found an insect in here food. Highly disappointed because we love chipotle. But this place could be managed more better. A rush is no reason to have dirty counter tops!!

This has to be one of the worst chipotle’s I’ve ever been to. My burrito was made in a very sloppy manner and it wasn’t rolled properly. At the end, i had a soggy burrito that I couldn’t eat at all. Sandwich shop
Caterer
Fast food restaurant
Jimmy John's is a popular fast-food chain known for its delicious sub and club sandwiches, as well as its signature potato chips. The company recently had a last-minute lunch catering order for 25 people and was relieved to find Jimmy John's. The general manager, David, provided exceptional assistance by helping them choose the right amount of food at a reasonable price and even arranged delivery despite being just outside the usual service area.
This location was super friendly, clean and taste with right on!! A special order a Caesar chicken wrap, and it was amazing. The portions of the extra additional toppings were just right and not lacking as some other locations do. I would come here again thank you so much for the yummy wrap you made me today!!

I put in an order for pick up. I was at the store 8min afterwards and it wasn't ready. I waited 10min and after I saw that a few people who ordered in the store and got there food for me, I asked for my order. They finally made it, but they told me they don't 'prioritize' pickup orders unless I'm in the store. My question is, what is the point of a pick up order if you don't make it till I'm in the store. Lousy policy

My husband and I went in around 6pm. Whoever the young lady was at the register had absolutely zero customer service. She had a blank stare and seemed bothered that she was taking my order. Her attitude is terrible and made my husband not want to eat there. I understand the food industry is tiring and hard but a simple smile, wave or acknowledgment goes a long way. I hope she has a better night!

I ask for a turkey tom add pickles cheese and oil and vinegar. I got none of that. And my sandwich hardly has anything on it.
Rachel R — Google review
Normally everything is great from this location. Today we ordered two beach clubs as wraps. There is one piece of turkey in each wrap. Why remove 90% of the meat just because it is a wrap? Such a disappointment and not with the money.

We accidentally placed a large group order for the wrong date. David went above and beyond to help us out at the last minute. Excellent, excellent service—thank you so much!

Absolutely the worst JJ’s experience ever. Attached are photos of what we ordered and what I got - my husband’s (the Italian Night Club) was fine, though. I’m not sure how they skipped over 2/3s of the ingredients on the list (including the standard provolone). They didn’t cut either sandwich in half, but that’s minimal. It was so bad, we ended up calling a different JJ’s (this one is closer to work and on the way home, but has way more traffic than the other one) and they were kind enough to agree to fix it.

Got a combo meal and it was a good price considering the size of the sub they gave me and the chips and a drink.

Breakfast restaurant
American restaurant
Diner
Waffle House is a popular American diner that serves classic breakfast dishes and specializes in all-day breakfast, including their famous waffles. Customers can expect a quick service as the food is delivered promptly within minutes of ordering. The menu features a variety of options such as hash brown bowls and waffles for both individuals and couples. The quality of the food is excellent, with proper cooking and accurate order fulfillment. The attentive waitress ensures that coffee cups are consistently refilled throughout the meal.
In at 7:10 and food landed in front of us all of 8 minutes later. Hash brown bowl for me, waffle for Mrs. It was all excellent, cooked properly and as we ordered. Lots of coffee and our waitress kept it refilled the whole time. It's a Waffle House, not a Ruth's Chris. Set your expectations appropriately and you'll have an excellent meal.

This location could use a little more customer service orientation. You need to ask about seating as there is no hostess to show you available seating. Our waitress once we identified open seats provided good service. Our server was Carolina and Josiah (sp) was very helpful. The food was on par for a Waffle House and what I expected.

We have been coming to eat at this place with my kids for years. We really love the waffles here. Today we came at 4/20 at 1:30 pm. The waitress who served us gave us a great service and i appreciate that. We were a table of 6 people. We were sat at a booth but our plates took up space in the table. We started picking up some plates that we were done using & told a lady (white) if she could take it up for us. We were told no to leave it on the table. But we needed space. 10 minutes later same lady (white) came by asking if she could take up our syrup.we told her no because we were still using it for our food. She asked twice & we said no. Then she made an ugly face after we said no again. Then she came back again with another bottle of syrup to switch it out. & instead of putting it down on our table nicely she threw it. Moral of the story our waitress did good serving us i just didnt like the white ladies attitude toward us.

Stopped by to get a quick bite to eat. Honestly, the reputation of eating at Waffle House on social media cause me to think twice about my decision, but it was a good experience all around! The food was decent and I ate everything that I ordered! Prepared nicely and properly seasoned. This franchise looked as if it was serving repeat customers, which is very good to see for the business and the community. I would say the staff stood out. I was greeted warmly, served as quickly as possible, and checked on without it feeling itrusive. Store was clean, plenty of parking, and I would dine there again!

Staff friendly just like every Waffle House I have ever been to. It amazes me every time the way they drop orders and make food with very few mistakes. This place was no different. They were pretty busy while I was there. I sat at the bar. Was greeted right away. Service has disappeared from many places but I have not had one bad experience at a Waffle House.

You know, we’ve always depended on waffle house for good food service, and specifically on their bacon we love their bacon used to win I went in yesterday I specifically asked for the waffle to be cooked first and brought to the table and I would order the rest of the grand slam The waiter said no I’ll take care of it and I said oh OK well I got the waffles ate some of it wondered my son had his breakfast I said where’s our bacon he brought our bacon our bacon was all curled up burn on the sides was salty. It was so salty Couldn’t eat it we didn’t eat it we sent it back. We had each order bacon. Well I brought the other order bacon it was the same. He brought that with my breakfast because I asked him I said he said oh do you want your breakfast now I said I thought you were gonna take care of that The cook acted like he could give a crap about how the food was cooked when it came out, was real troubled about being at work. I tell you what the two people that train these people ought to be fired because they trained them not their fault. They just weren’t trained rightI’ve lost all confidence and waffle House. All confidence you know I took my son there because I said oh, this place is good because I had good service and food there in the past, but this was the 330 shift and the afternoon just terrible.

Food was cooked perfectly but the best part was the service. Our waiter Tevin was the friendliest guy and we could tell he really enjoyed his job. A+

My family and I came in was greeted and we sat at a booth. A young lady came and took our order. 1st strike was interrupting me while I was telling her I didn't want eggs so add hash browns. She tried to tell me I couldn't substitute eggs with has browns. OK so add it to my order. 2nd strike was her leaving the store. Didn't say my shift is ended and someone will take over. Nothing. We watched her get in the passenger side of a car and ride off. We assumed her coworkers would take care of us. BIG NO! Another family came in a young man just starting his shift took their orders. We're still waiting for ours. NOTHING. The other family got their food and we still had NOTHING. Just the tea and water the young lady gave us before leaving. My husband asked about our food. Apparently another young man Daren behind the counter had to "find" our order ticket. HE (Deren) NEVER PUT OUR ORDER IN! He (Deren) had our ticket and NEVER GAVE IT TO THE COOK. NEVER CAME OVER TO SEE IF WE NEEDED ANYTHING! NEVER CAME OVER TO SAY HE WAS TAKING OVER THE YOUNG LADIES TABLE. My husband asked him if he was serious and the young man said yeah. Of course we left. And will be calling corporate. That was very rude and disrespectful. Beyond horrible customer service. Would not recommend this location.
