This is a must go destination while travelling in Shillong. The local Khasi name of the falls is Ka Kshaid Lai, which literally means waterfalls with three stages. You can not see all three stages together but you have to go down through stairs to visit each stage ......all three stages are very beautiful. The largest one is the third and lowest stage. This area also have plenty of parking and good food options. Also good for buying souvenirs.

Steps are slightly steep can cause difficulties for children & old age person. Even in pre winter(october last) this falls has sufficient water to make it attractive.

Indeed an elephant, This elephant falls has 3 falls, first at the top, then the mid- layer and then you land to the bottom. You need to trek for 15-20mins, the stairs are proper so won't be a difficult trek, it would be total of 150-200 steps. If you plan to visit elephant falls, please wear proper shoe as sandals might slip, rest everything is perfect 🙂

Loved this place ,enjoyed visiting after a long time. Our little Argha enjoyed a lot playing there. Sad part is zoo is closed for maintainance. Garden is now blooming with Camelia ,Azelia and many other season flowers. Maintained nicely people can spend some time in the nature. We could show Argha only Pelican, and some ducks. Still she was happy. Only the water bodies need some cleaning and maintenance. Ticket price Rs 20 /adult, Rs10/children below 12 years. Still camera charge is Rs.50

Ward’s Lake in Shillong was my second travel destination, and I had a really peaceful and pleasant experience there. The park is quite large and spread across a big area. It is located right along the main road, so it’s easy to find. There is an entry ticket, and plastic bottles or any kind of plastic items are not allowed inside, which helps keep the place clean and eco-friendly. Inside the park, there are many trees, a big lake with a lot of fish, and small birds flying around. Visitors often feed the fish, and the overall atmosphere is very calm and close to nature. The park is well maintained. Cleaning staff are present and regularly keep the area clean. There is also a small section near a pool where you can rent traditional local dresses and take photos, which is a fun experience. A small café inside the park offers light snacks and drinks, so you can sit and relax for a while. This place is good for walking, relaxing, spending time in nature, and clicking photos. I would definitely recommend visiting it if you're in Shillong.

Wards Lake is a charming little escape in the heart of Shillong. Visited on a misty and rainy afternoon so missed out on the Shillong view but the experience was nice with some great pictures around and the wooded area as well . This is situated inside an Air Force cantonment area which means restricted access for vehicles. Only the regular taxis in that area are allowed to enter so you would need to switch cabs and pay 200 INr for a return trip ( 5 min drive ). The drive inside is nice and you get to see the cantonment area and school and all the facilities for the residents. No pictures till this view point , photo id are mandatory .

Breathtaking views of the city of Shillong from the top. Before going there I'd suggest keeping in mind that this place is within defence jurisdiction so every person must carry one valid photo ID. Which they need to produce at the ticket counter. Personal vehicle are not permitted to enter the area so a vehicle has to be booked from the ticket counter itself which will take you to the peak.

From the base gate, the ticket counter is about 10–15 minutes away, where you’ll get both tickets and a permitted vehicle to take you through the base. Carry a valid ID for verification at the main gate. The area is immaculately maintained by the military, with a few souvenir shops (prices slightly high). For its scenic charm and peaceful vibes, Shillong Peak is a must-visit gem of Meghalaya.

Beautiful view of the city. You need to go through the air force station Shillong to reach there. Need to buy tickets and cabs of local unions are only allowed to go inside, unless you have a permission from the Air Force or GOi.

Genuine review: Heavy Traffic on weekdays as it on the road of cherapunji all school, college and office going vehicle will jam the road. Personal vehicle needs to be parked appx 2.0 km away from the peak. There you have to collect tickets of Rs 50 each as entry fees and Rs 200 for taxi ( as the peak is in Airforce campus) 3 persons can seat in a taxi. Every individual must carry government issues valid ID proof. Airforce jawan will check the ID proof and allow you the enter. Peak is worth watching.

Your entry to Meghalaya when you drive into Shillong from Guwahati. It is a sports complex which has been developer around a man made lake fed by rainwater. Plenty of parking, great views, decent washrooms and the speed boat experience was excellent and felt safe as well. Charging an entry fee seems excessive if a person is boating then perhaps it could be refunded( because it is quite high 50 pp, while boating is 200). Lovely clean air and clear skies make a very good experience.

Once part of the state of Assam, this man made lake was included into Meghalaya when 3 southern districts of Assam were made part of the newly formed state. A place of unparalleled natural beauty and bio-diversity. MTDC has built a resort "Orchid Lake resort" on the banks.

Water is pretty. Boating was quite expensive. The boat guy did not behaved well tho, we asked him to slow down a bit cuz the boat was literally jumping and we couldn’t balance well. He did not respond , it was like he was pretty annoyed from the start. He did not slow down and when we asked him to slow down the second time he replied ‘its like this only’. It was only one round for 8min after paying 600 for 3 people. There is no good eatery inside. I’d give my experience 7.5/10.

Whether you’re into photography, nature, or just a bit of soul-soothing stillness, Umiam Lake is a must. A gentle reminder of how spectacular simplicity can be.

🌟 Umiam Lake View – A Peaceful Jewel Near Shillong I visited Umiam Lake Viewpoint on my way to Shillong, and it instantly became one of my favorite spots in Meghalaya. The moment you step out, you’re greeted with an incredible 180-degree view of calm blue waters surrounded by rolling green hills. I went around late afternoon, and the golden light made the whole place look magical. The entry fee was just ₹50, and there are benches to sit and simply soak in the scenery. It’s a great place for photography—whether you’re after sweeping landscapes or peaceful close-ups of the lake. If you have extra time, you can try boating or just stroll in the nearby garden. In short: serene, scenic, and worth stopping even if you’re only passing by. Perfect for a relaxing pause before diving back into Meghalaya’s adventures.

Don Bosco museum offers many displays. It's multi floor building. It's a lot of knowledge and great collection of North East heritage. Most recommended place to visit in shillong. Entry fee to museum 100 /- for adults, 50/- for children upto 5th STD. Camera fee 100. There are 7 floors and last floor has sky walk. Amazing experience.

My wife and I visited the museum in Oct 2025. At first we were really concerned how we would be able to climb th 7 storeys but soon after entering a staff member kindly directed us to a lift that took us to the top sky walk and we could enjoy all floors (a MUST visit) strolling down. A men's or Ladies toilet on every single floor makes it Senior friendly. The collection is a comprehensive and superb one. We came back knowing a lot about all 7 North East (sister) States! Highly recommend a visit.

This is a must visit in Shillong with a ticket cost of just 20 rupees per head, I highly recommend to explore this place in order to understand the cultures and heritage of all the North Eastern States We went there with minimal knowledge and we got to experience most of the cultures. Also would recommend taking an option to click pictures. It’ll help you in making memories We took many pictures and had really fun at the view point as well. Spare at-least 2-3 hrs It’s air conditioned and well maintained, The staff is friendly too and there’s a store with lot of options to buy from.

It's a well maintained museum and the skywalk gives a vast panoramic view of the Shillong town. It's a must visit if you're in Shillong. The ticket is cheap with extra charges for mobiles and cameras. The museum beautifully showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Seven Sister states and one brother Sikkim. Each floor is dedicated to different aspects of tribal life, their belongings and how they manage their livelihood. One can understand the difference between the cultures of the seven states in a very lucid way.

Actually the viewpoint here is Shillong peak which is a hidden gem in meghalaya. Most of the people don't know about this view point from where you can get panaromic view of the whole shillong valley . Even Tour agencies don't go to this place . But this is a must go spot . On a clear weather you can see the whole city from here . This is inside indian air force base . To go here you have to take tickets which costs Rs.100 per person. From the ticket counter you take local taxis (price included on tickets) which you take to shillong peak and get back again. One must carry original ID cards like Adhaar or Voter to enter this air force base camp inside which shillong peak resides. Another information is this shillong peak is near Elephant falls so after visiting shillong peak you can go elephant falls which is about 10 min by car . Do not take pictures or videos of air force base but once you get to shillong peak you can take videos and pictures.

It's an amazing experience to visit the museum. Make sure you carry a valid ID as they will register your name and ID details for security reasons. The museum is quite small but has a good collection of miniature aircraft models and lots of photos. The area outside has life size helicopter, planes, etc. that are just massive and awesome.

It's a good place to get an aerial view of Shillong city. It was good. The cars are not allowed inside. You need to get the tickets, pass and id proof go inside after verified by the police. And they will provide you the car to go inside also.

Shillong Viewpoint at Laitkor Peak was a mixed experience for me. The view itself is absolutely breathtaking—you get a sweeping panorama of the city, the hills, and on a clear day it feels magical, almost like floating above the clouds. That part really lived up to the hype and made the visit memorable. What disappointed me, though, was how commercialized the whole place felt. Instead of focusing on showcasing culture or giving visitors a deeper experience of the region, everything seemed centered around selling things—photo ops in traditional Khasi attire, snacks, and trinkets. The charm of the natural setting gets a bit overshadowed by the push for money. Despite that, I can’t deny the beauty of the viewpoint itself. The scenery makes it worth a visit, but the experience could have been so much richer if it celebrated the culture as much as the view. For me, it’s a solid 4/5.

The view point is about 1.3 Km from the main gate of Airforce Unit of Shillong. You can enjoy nature while seeing the Shillong view from the peak. A humble war museum of the Indian Army. Its located at the junction of Guwahati -shillong and Shillong -Cherrapunjee road, about 2 kms away from the city.You would be welcomed by a old war machine - Tank- at the entrance of this museum. The working hour is from 10- 02 pm and 1500-1700. Its purely maintained by army unit, and its to commemorate the war victory in 1971.

Quite a rare tourist spot in shillong. The roads leading to the spot is narrow and a bit confusing but its worth it. The area is still developing as a tourist spots so its a bit dusty in the view point area. The waterfalls is quite a climb down a hill that too without any steps or proper road, so not recommended for old people. But I hope it will be more developed in years to come and at least a pathway will be constructed to go near the waterfalls.

Roads are in good condition from shillong to this place. Few shops available here, parking facilities available with parking charge, charge taken by villagers. you will find a lot of peace in the lap of nature here with amazing views of mountains and a fall which is approx 100 meter in lenth. It's very scary to go downstairs as there is no stairs available.

It's a lovely place It's clean 🌸, green💚 and the best part is, it's a less crowded tourists spot😊 as compared to the other tourists spots in shillong. If you love trees, greeneries... Then do visit it.

Compared to other water falls in Meghalaya, Sweet Falls can't be said attractive and spectacular, but it is an experience to reach there and spend some time in isolation.

There are many 'Falls' in Meghalaya. Sweet Falls is one of those. But this Falls is different from others. Firstly, this place is very lonely. Secondly, the approach road is narrow. Thirdly, most car drivers try to avoid this place. Fourthly, there is no security personnel and no stall. But if you go there, the scenic beauty and Sweet Falls will certainty sweeten your mind.

Such natural beauty is hard to find, Calming place , I can spend hours and hours just looking at the landscapes and clouds. Some people come here for picnic and eat food here but sometimes they leave so much trash around nd litter so much I feel bad for the place, so please don't litter there, leave the place like you want it to be or better.

It is an awesome place if you are a nature lover, trees specially pine trees you will get alot to see and those roads on hilly area are very lovely to explore on bike , i would recommend to go on two wheeler to capture fabulous pictures...

It is one of the best trekking experience of life.. usually we never followed traditional routes.. one such journey was this.. we trekked up through a seasonal stream and used naturally available resources.. I have traveled through length and breadth of East Khasi Hills and all those journeys are still fresh in my memories.. If u r a trekker, then must visit Scotland of East

Nice tea gardens, with greenery all around the place and butterflies in the air. entry fees-10/person..... You can see here how tea leafs are processed in machines. Nice place for photography but beware of insects in the tea plants

A beautiful woodland of pine trees, protected as a Reserve Forest. If one is silent, one can hear the wind through the pines and see some beautiful birds as well. Visit. Enjoy. Take memories. Leave nothing, not even footprints.

Very much lovely and green and quiet place to be at your own for a while. Feels surreal. Straight out of Harry Potter movies. Looks likes the Dark Jungle forbidden to students at Hogwartz School of Witchcraft amd Wizardry.

This lake is so big and beautiful. One can spend hours sitting at the lake side. There is a small children's park also. Free Clean Toilet. A good restaurant also there. One can do boating in Umiam Lake.

Nice Lake but I believe that one thing that can be improved is the Water Activity Ticket Counter, it's not SBI that a Tourist Place should have lunch break from 13:15 to 14:30. We couldn't do any Sports Activity just for that reason. There should be an alternative counter for Lunch Hours. There is an entry fee for the place.

Very scenic. Boating is good. They only have a combo ticket for 10 people.1500 so, 150 per head . You need to deal with tourists here to buy a combined ticket. The views are amazing and scenic

Very beautiful place. The elephant falls is visible from here but you can't directly go to the elephant falls from here. But it's worth visiting as it's a very peaceful and scenic place.

One of the best and must-visit places in the city outskirts. Coupled with the soothing weather and breathtaking landscapes, the drive there itself is exhilarating. The park's staff are very friendly, the entry fee (50 rs per person) is decent, ample parking space, beautiful scenery in and around the park, the restaurant serves tasty local and Chinese cuisine. There's a nice playground for children and open sitting spaces for families going for a picnic. The best part of it is that you can witness in full view the beauty of Elephant falls. It feels tranquil and majestic to be nestled amidst the clouds and the dense flora around.

Beautiful place for picnic with family and friends. The location is very picturesque. It is also very clean and nice. Many huts have been constructed to take shelter during the rain which is unpredictable. The greenery and flowers make the place look like it is straight out of a movie. Plenty of place to eat food and snacks. Children's park is also very good with plenty of options for the children.

We visited this park, this is along side of elephant falls, If you really want to experience the greater side of Elephant Falls, You must visit this instead of the elephant falls location These both share elephant falls but from here you will have a much better view for photos.. But you cannot dip in the falls, However I don’t recommend dipping in since its ice cold Also there will be a traditional dress shop where you can try on Meghalaya’s traditional wear

This is my first time visit to Matilang amusement park in Shillong nearly Elephant falls. This is amazing and wonderful park in this place. Every day many people are going to visit this place. This place is a beautiful evergreen plantation in the Park. Inside the Matilang amusement park available food in the restaurant for visiting tourist. Very nice park. The atmosphere is so good. The orchid house was amazing. We can see various kinds of orchids there. We admire nature's beauty there. one of the best places in India to visit. Nice place to hangout with friends, family and lived ones. Not at all crowded even on weekends. Its a huge place and the view of Umiam lake is awesome from this place. Childrens play area is available. Entry fees is Rs 20/- for adults and Rs 10/- for children. Car parking fees is Rs 20/-. Also please keep in mind that it is a plastic free zone and hence no disposable dishes or plastic packets etc will be allowed through the gate.

Nehru Park is located just opposite to the Orchid Lake Resort, on ridge of a hill. The park is nicely landscaped with flowering plant beds, trees of various species, maintained lawns, a selfie point amidst white pines, a children's playground, kids tot-lot area, and winding pathways up and down the ridge. An octagonal glasshouse makes up the nursery. Statue of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru is located at a vantage point from where one may get a good view of the Umiam lake. A plaque commemorates inauguration of the Umiam hydroelectric power plant by Pt. Nehru. Long sitting platforms have been etched into the slope like an OAT. Amenities present: toilet block, a small cafeteria. Parking present just outside the main entry. Timing: 09:00AM to 5:00PM.

Yeah it's nice the forest and all but just visited it today. The local were not really friendly because some people are doing drugs there visitors are looked upon with suspicioun it ruins the whole visit. Over all if u want to get out of the busy shillong life u can go there (don't go alone).

Very nice forest. The tree are tall and looks wonderful. It's just trail and good for tracking. There is no particular entry point for this forest. It's quite and peaceful.

You need to get permission from forest department for entering Protected Forest area to explore the flora and fauna.

I had a great time talking with a friend while being there, the scenery is quite mesmerizing. For those who love spending time in quiet places, this is definitely a go-to place.

A very nice place during the weekdays calm and a beautiful view of the dam. Can be a little crowded during the weekends. But if you do decide to visit this place make sure you bring some nice drinks and good food. Side note Do stay and watch the sunset it is very visible from this area.

I recently visited Eco Park in Mawlai. The road and the park are both okay—nothing too fancy, but a peaceful place overall. What really stands out is the beautiful view from the top of the mountain. It’s a good spot for a family picnic or a quiet day out. If you're looking for a calm, scenic place around Shillong, I would recommend giving it a visit.

Guide was very nice and helpful.

Serene, clean and quiet. 1 hour drive from Shillong. This is the only one open to tourists out of several other sacred forests through out Meghalaya. A local community group manages the tourist visits. An entry fee (for each person and car extra) with guide fee is charged. The guides are actually local boys who take a group for a half n hour trail. The ground in front of the forest is do clean that it looks like outside India.

This is just outside shillong city, not so far. A sacred place for the local Khasi community. The place is dedicated to their god Labasa...they used to seek permission for hunting through animal sacrifice for Labasa. The walking trail is really beautiful.... someone have to take a guide to enter to the forest area, the guide will describe about the khasi traditions, history and the monoliths situated inside the forest. There are full and half trek options. The place is very serene and quiet. Someone must not take anything outside the forest, whether its leaves or stones or rudraksh or flowers.

Man made lake in the middle of Shillong. 30rs entry fees and parking beside the road available. Nice and peaceful with clean water and a variety of different plants. Lots of flowers and a few animals like ducks as well. There's a coffee shop inside as well with a beautiful view. Is in essence a small park within the city and you can spend about 30 minutes here.
