Located in downtown Bangor, the Maine Discovery Museum is a three-level interactive educational space designed to inspire young minds through hands-on learning. The museum features exhibits on various topics including science, engineering, art, literature, and nature. Families can enjoy unique events and programs at this children's museum which offers activities such as digging for dinosaur bones, exploring 'Goodnight Moon,' singing in the Karaoke Studio, climbing a treehouse, peeking inside a beaver lodge and meeting live reptiles.
The Maine Discovery Museum is such a gem for families! It’s full of thoughtful, interactive rooms that invite kids to play, explore, and learn in really creative ways. Every space is designed with care, and there’s so much variety that children of all ages can find something to enjoy. I especially loved the Goodnight Moon-themed room, such a sweet and cozy space that brought the classic book to life. It’s clear the museum puts a lot of heart into making it a magical experience. Highly recommend for locals and visitors alike!

It was a wonderful experience! Although we discovered that our son was just a bit too short for some of the play areas, we made the most of it, and he had an amazing time. I highly recommend visiting during the fall or winter when the weather is cooler. WE will definitely go again when he a little bigger
Kaylie R — Google review
It was our first time here and we will definitely be back the next time we are up to visit family! We spent three hours here with our little one. Your admission is good for the entire day, until close, so you can leave and come back.
Stephanie T — Google review
This is a wonderful place. We only allotted ourselves about an hour and a 1/2, which honestly as many floors and exhibits as they have children can't really dive deep into play. So I would recommend packing a good lunch and some snacks and preparing yourselves to be there for a few hours. So they can really explore their imaginative play.

What a fun surprise it was to stumble upon this place with an almost 4 year old. I wasn't sure what to expect but the exhibits were so fun and well thought out - my daughter did NOT want to leave. Great job to the staff that maintains and runs everything - there is something for every kid.
Kathleen L — Google review
The Discovery Museum is a favorite for our kiddos and it's usually clean, well maintained, and the staff are pleasant. I do wish they'd occasionally add to or change up the exhibits. We've been going for years and it's been largely the same for the last several years. Given the amount of business it gets, and the repeat local visitors, it'd be nice to have some exhibits swapped out, or even have a special "exhibit of the month". That would draw in folks to visit again.
Ashley N — Google review
We love the children's museum. It has enough variety to keep children from various ages very happy! Everything is clean and tidy, and the staff is exceptional. It is a friendly, caring, and informative place to be.
Gwen S — Google review
Great place to take the grandkids. Enjoyed watching a very interesting discussion and showing of a snake a lizard like creature and a turtle. The kids got to touch each creature. There were three floors of hands on experiences. The center is not as big inside as it looks like from the outside. It was not real crowded which made it fun

Specialty Museums
The Cole Land Transportation Museum in Bangor, Maine is a captivating destination for enthusiasts of vintage vehicles and transportation history. Founded by Earl E. Cole in 1956, the museum's mission is to preserve and showcase a diverse array of land transportation equipment from Maine's past. Visitors can explore an extensive collection that includes antique cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, military vehicles spanning from World War II to the Vietnam War era, as well as farm equipment and even bicycles.
Cole Land Transportation Museum – A Must-See Stop in Bangor! During a trip to Bangor earlier in 2025, I stopped at the Cole Land Transportation Museum—and it ended up being one of the best parts of the visit. I was welcomed right away by two fellow veterans volunteering at the front, and that connection alone made the experience more meaningful. I also received a handcrafted Maine maple walking stick—a thoughtful gift the museum gives to veterans as a way to honor their service and offer something lasting to take home. Inside, the museum holds an impressive collection of land transportation history—antique snowplows, fire trucks, tractors, military vehicles, and more. From restored Model Ts to equipment used in Maine’s logging and farming industries, everything is well displayed with clear signage and wide walkways to explore at your own pace. I also learned more about the museum’s background. It was founded by Galen Cole, a WWII veteran and trucking company owner, who wanted to preserve local transportation history while also honoring veterans and educating future generations. That mission really comes through as you walk through the exhibits—it’s more than just old equipment. The volunteers shared how committed the museum is to veteran outreach and education. They mentioned how the museum hosts school groups, military reunions, and community events that promote patriotism and civic responsibility. Outside, there’s a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter and an M60 tank surrounded by plaques and flags in a memorial area that’s both quiet and powerful. Admission was very reasonable, and the visit was absolutely worth it. Whether you’re into history, vehicles, or just looking for something different in the Bangor area, I highly recommend stopping here. I’d go back without hesitation.

Loved this museum. It was amazing to see all the parts of history. Thank you so much for all the time and collections you have put together for our enjoyment!!

This place is amazing has actual big rig trucks an old train that u can walk all through among many other amazing things. Price to enter isn’t bad either. Kids under a certain age get in for free.
Linda G — Google review
Small and mighty! Spent an hour and half looking at so much history that is mainly acquired and restored from local sources! Bonus scavenger hunts for all ages if you're into that. Well displayed and maintained.
Lindsey — Google review
This is an awsome little museum, with lots of stuff packed into the building. We stopped in while exploring the area and were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly and eager to answer questions. The layout is great and easy to wonder around in
Ken D — Google review
Excellent exhibit. Our guide Jim was a added bonus. Great job glad we stopped
Charles M — Google review
This was an impromptu stop rather early in the morning, so I didn't visit the museum, but just getting to visit the outside things was worth the detour.
Stacey M — Google review
Amazing! I went for an event for my grandchildren and truly enjoyed every minute. It is so fascinating and I am not interested in vehicles at all. Just not my thing. The children had so much fun with the event and the scavenger hunt throughout the museum. They looked at everything there trying to find the pieces on the scavenger hunt pictures. The museum is AMAZING and I can't wait to go back.

The Thomas Hill Standpipe, a historic landmark in Bangor, Maine, has been in use since its completion in 1897. It serves to regulate water pressure downtown and can store up to 1.75 million gallons of water for emergencies. During World War II, it was painted olive for camouflage due to its proximity to an airfield. The standpipe is also known as the Derry Standpipe featured in Stephen King's "It.
I am not sure why I liked this so much but I did. It has a history and is very interesting architecturally. It is also surprisingly large and from a distance with its windows may be mistaken for something other than what it is. Speaking of it, it also has a history in one of the King novels. On a nice day the park is a pleasant place to enjoy the structure.
Perks A — Google review
Went here to visit the filming location for IT. Have to say, was very cool being in the exact spot they filmed, and lining up photos with the movie. To a non Stephen king fan it probably looks like nothing but I thought it was very cool. Recommend to all the king fans.
Natalie C — Google review
I came to find a geocache and discovered a pretty cool place . Such an interesting feature in the middle of Bangor, and it belongs to the Bangor Water District. Apparently this holds almost 1.8 million gallons of water, and for a few days a year, it is open to tours and a walk up the stairs to the top. The fountain nearby was being visited by the locals, who were happy to give me a pose.
Jacki C — Google review
Calling this place massive is an understatement. It is unfortunately can’t get in and walk around. There’s a staircase that leads to a giant steel riveted tank encased and a wooden jacket. The place was built in 1997 and 1,75 million gallons of water.
Malcolm G — Google review
Absolutely loved this, it is so huge and very cool! My only regret as I did not get to see the inside. Next time! Definitely worth The Visit. And I walked the half mile to the Stephen King house, very enjoyable. Highly recommend both!
Laura C — Google review
Stopped to visit it at dusk and it was cool to see. Read that this spot inspired Stephen King and that he actually wrote from the bench near it. Definitely something to see if you are a fan.
Yael W — Google review
A fun afternoon. The standpipe was open to the public. After climbing the 100 stairs to a panoramic view of the Bangor area. Spectacular sight! We were blessed with a sunny day and clear skies. It was windy on the day we went so I'm glad we had jackets.

Located in the heart of downtown Bangor, Zillman Art Museum is a renovated department store that showcases prints and photography by both local and national artists. As Maine's only collecting institution dedicated to contemporary art, the museum features five galleries displaying a diverse range of media and styles. Visitors can enjoy free admission to explore the museum's offerings. The area surrounding the museum is vibrant, with various dining options, craft beer establishments, retail shops, and performing arts venues nearby.
I have never been here before. But by what I have seen here, I WILL certainly be going sometime very soon. It looks like the perfect thing to do on a sunny, warm day while exploring Bangor on foot. Grabbing a nice lunch at Bagel Central and just taking in the sights and sounds of Bangor. I wonder how often their large exhibits are rotated?? Does anyone know??

Wonderful art museum. Free admission, good variety of painting and sculptures spread across multiple floors.

I really enjoyed the art on exhibit at this place and the staff were very sociable. Another plus was events offered for visitors to take part in as well. This place can really help one to become a part of the art community.

A little smaller than anticipated, but still enjoyed it. A little hard to find, there wasn't a clear sign saying it was the museum. Overall I spent about 20 minutes there.

Did the haunted ghost walked and absolutely loved it! Our tour guide was super knowledgeable and fun to listen too! He also had a great sense of humor when random people drove by and yelled out the window. Great activity for local and tourist alike! I learned a lot about Bangor that i never knew before.

I went for the Mt. Hope Cemetery tour this morning. It was a great way to learn about Bangor history and Ryan was incredibly knowledgable. And of course the cemetery Itself is such a pleasant place to walk. I highly recommend this tour. Thank you to the Bangor Historical Society and volunteers.

I had an incredibly lovely time on the historical ghost tour this evening. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and he was a wonderful story teller. It was nice to learn about some major historical events in Bangor, and a handful of ones I had never heard about!

We had a lovely time visiting for the winter decorations. This years theme was the Nutcracker and the rooms were all well done. It was only $5 and you have access to the first floor which includes 4 rooms, hallway, and small gift shop/museum. You can also vote for your favorite room. I believe our host was Carol(might have the wrong name!) but she was informative and polite. Some cool local history!

My wife and I had a few hours in Bangor and wandered into the Bangor Historical Society on a whim. We got an amazing tour from a a volunteer, learned a lot and had a great time. There is a lot to see there - check it out. I planned to steal a 300 lb cannon on display but was foiled. I’ll be back for it later.

We had friends from out of state visit and did Mount hope walking tour. We were greeted by a mom and child. After we all paid and all the others arrived that were touring as well, we were informed that this child who had just finished six grade was guiding the tour because the mom said she was better at it. The child acted like a child throughout the fiasco tour reading from a paper, constantly tripping over all the words, saying she wasn't even going to try and say a lot of them, showing her mom the paper and her mom telling her how to say the words. She was leaning/sitting on the graves, we all could hardly make out most of what she was reading. It was the worst money ever spent. I work at a business where people are asking me daily what there is to do in this area and I had been recommending this all year because I walk there and love it. I even printed out the ad and it's hanging where all could see it. We never even was shone the memorial that was in the picture. Or any memorials there. Was told it was 90 minutes but lasted under an hour. It was agonizing to tough this out and we all couldn't wait for it to end. I would like a full refund and won't refer this anymore to anyone. UPDATE: THE GENTLEMAN THAT USUALLY GIVES THE TOUR SAID HE WAS UNABLE TO DO THE TOUR SO HAD THE ABOVE DO IT IN A PINCH. HE OFFERED TO REFUND US AS WELL AND GIVE US HIS TOUR. I'VE HEARD FROM OTHER THAT HE IS GREAT AS A YOUR GUIDE! THANK YOU
Cyndee P — Google review
We did a mount hope tour Thursday August 24th and it was a training session for a sixth grade girl leading the tour with her mother in the background. If I could give a zero rating I would. We brought guests with us from our of state and paid the mother because she said she was the tour guide. Then after we all paid we started late and finished early, hardly saw anything and the daughter was attempting to read a print out. Unable to pronounce a lot of it. It was a huge rip off and we'd like our money back! We didn't pay for a bring your daughter to work day training session for a sixth grader.

Nestled away in downtown Bangor, the Penobscot Theatre Company is a hidden gem that offers a diverse array of performances throughout the year. Housed in an Art Deco Egyptian revival building with Art Nouveau influences, this theater company presents classic and contemporary works, serving as the sole year-round professional regional theater in Northern Maine.
We went to see The Rocky Horror Show and had an absolute blast! The cast was phenomenal, and we loved the prop bags to enabled us to participate. We are in awe of the talent we saw, and wish we were Maine residents so we could attend again!

Gorgeous theatre with friendly and helpful staff. The place is steeped in history and you can feel it all around. Comfortable seating. A lovely bar is adjacent serving alcohol and coffee and snacks. Regardless of what you are going to see, this is a lovely place to see it.

Yesterday I went to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show and I have to say it was the best production of it I've ever seen! All the actors did an amazing job, but Ira Kramer brought the character Riff Raff to a whole new level! I was however disappointed in the audience though, it was mostly "virgins" and very few people were dressed properly for the occasion! Hahaha!
Evalee K — Google review
I’ve been to two shows now at the Penobscot Theatre Company and both times I’ve been blown away by the talent, stage crew, directing choices, and script. The stage is beautiful, the actors are phenomenal, it is such a fantastic spot in Bangor to go if you have the chance. So far, I’ve seen A Christmas Carol and Dirty Deeds Down East and loved both! Great work to the cast and crew.

My husband and I are avid Rocky Horror fans. Starting in 1978 8th St NYC. We just saw Rocky Horror live last night at the Penobscot Theatre and it was fabulous!! I felt like I was at a broadway show! Such a professional performance. Bravo PTC!!!!!

The Penobscot Theatre is a treasure for Bangor. While the Theatre remains physically closed during Covid, it is alive in spirit. The theatre is located in the old opera house and offers a variety of plays during the year. It is in the downtown part of Bangor. During the temporary closure you can find the theatre online. It is worth a visit if you support culture.

Nestled in the vibrant Waterfront District of Bangor, the Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway Bangor offers a delightful blend of entertainment and relaxation. This contemporary hotel features cozy rooms and suites, making it an ideal spot for both leisure seekers and gaming enthusiasts. While it may not boast the same grandeur as Las Vegas, this charming casino is one of Maine's few gambling destinations, showcasing an exciting array of slot machines, table games, and a live poker room.
The Hollywood Casino in Bangor is very nice , clean & comfortable. Staff very friendly. Our room over looked the river with all the wonderful foliage leaves. Absolutely Beautiful! Now as far as the casino , I was Not lucky on any of the slot machines. That happens. We had a great time & enjoyed our stay at the Hollywood Casino Bangor,Maine!

Great location (we were just passing through on a road trip), casino floor is very very small, but I had no problem finding a spot to sit. Casino hotel and floor is very nice and clean. Hotel room was clean, the bedding and pillows were so comfy! Parking in garage was easy. There is 1 restaurant and 1 cafe on the casino floor. Front desk staff were all friendly.
Jackie P — Google review
Our room wasn’t as clean as it should have been, there was dust everywhere, and we had to call for another blanket because the one in our room had a yellow, crusty stain on it. On a positive note, we really enjoyed the service at Hops House 99, the staff was great, and the food was awesome. We were also told that if we billed our meal to the room, we’d get a $5 credit, which we did. After dinner, we stopped by the small store near check-in to grab some water and snacks. After browsing for several minutes, the woman at the front desk informed us that their system was down and she couldn’t sell us anything. We asked if she could bill it to our room once the system was back up, but she said no. Not a huge deal, we figured we’d just use the two 10 oz complimentary waters in the room. However, upon checkout, I noticed a $10 “amenity charge” on our bill. When I asked about it, I was told it covered the two bottles of water, the $5 dining credit, and “other things.” That honestly felt ridiculous, if I’m paying for it, don’t call it an amenity. All in all, we still had a decent time. It was nice to gamble a little, enjoy some good food, and relax afterward. Would I stay again? Maybe, but only if the price wasn’t over $200 a night, the room was worth $100 tops.
Jolene S — Google review
We had a fantastic experience from start to finish! The staff was incredibly attentive, polite, and fast. From the friendly Jack at the front desk, to the welcoming and efficient waitstaff in the restaurant, and the upbeat bartenders in the casino every interaction was top-notch. We had the quesadillas and they were absolutely delicious fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The drinks were great too, and the whole dining experience was one of the many a highlights of our stay. The music throughout the evening was upbeat and full of energy we loved it! It really added to the fun and lively atmosphere. We also spent some time in the casino and had a blast playing roulette with Tyson he was friendly, fun, and made the game even more enjoyable. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. It’s clear the whole team takes pride in making guests feel welcome and taken care of. We truly enjoyed ourselves and can’t wait to come back again. Highly recommended!
Kyle Q — Google review
Rooms were comfortable yet basic, bathrooms were roomy with plenty of hot water. Zombie Dog was delicious! Slots and casino staff were great. Felt safe and comfortable. Would definitely come back. Only negative- entrance is around back and felt isolated until I got inside hotel
Julia B — Google review
Needed a last minute place to stay as we were passing through Bangor. Rooms were large and clean. Casino was nice but on the small side. We never had a server come by when we were gambling so I couldn't tell you if the drinks are complimentary or if you need to pay when gambling. Food options at the hotel/casino are limited. We ate at the 99, which I would consider bar'ish type food. Nice enough place would probably stay here again if in the area.
Kent K — Google review
Worst hotel I ever stayed at. They DO NOT SERVICE THE ROOMS. If you want clean towels you need to leave the soiled ones in the hall and hope clean ones are left in their place which we did not know until I complained on our second day. The room temp felt like 65F and the thermostat had no effect on the temp. Charged $10 fee for Amenities that included a Hotel Pantry which is a joke, all items in there are for an additional cost. We stayed for 3 days at $200+ /day and had better service, rooms, free breakfast, and better stay at a $80 Comfort Inn. Never again will I stay there.
Manuel S — Google review
The poker room is not open Monday - Wednesday. There are too many buy-in options for the table games. Drinks are not free for table players. They don't allow you to walk through the Casino with your bags to the hotel. The room was over 78-degrees and there was no control over the room temperature. Calling the front desk required calling a phone answering service. The hotel got back to me saying they'd send someone to my room to look into the heat issue but no one ever came.

The Orono Bog Boardwalk is a 1-mile looped trail located in the Bangor City Forest, offering visitors an up-close experience of the region's unique ecology. Designated as a National Natural Landmark, this slightly elevated boardwalk spans over the 600-acre wetland forest, providing views of diverse flora and fauna species.
Beautiful easy walk. Had kids with us and they had fun learning and spotting different things along the trail.

For someone that is not super familiar with bogs this place was over super cool. The city has constructed basically floating panels of compositor decking over the bog. It’s mostly stationary but some steps you’ll get a little more give than others. It takes you through a cool path of what looks like a jungle forest then opens up to a wet desert then back again. This has to be the easiest walk anyone could possibly do!
Malcolm G — Google review
Unique opportunity to walk over a bog. Saw many pitcher plants. The walk is mostly flat and easy for any age. Something cool to do if you are in the Bangor area. Great spot to spend an hour or so. Plenty of parking, restrooms. The loop out to the bog closed at 430 so plan accordingly.

Really beautiful boardwalk, moderate easy loop around. Dogs aren’t allowed on the boardwalk (except service animals), but are allowed on the surrounding trails. Has little information posts along the way showing facts about the local wildlife.

Early morning hike was beautiful. There were some posted signs about bear sightings, but that's hardly surprising with the blueberries in season. There's a quarter mile hike from the parking lot along an improved road, then the bog walk is a loop on an elevated path. Gorgeous. Really unique terrain with informative plaques along the way.

I enjoyed this walk, all on a well-maintained boardwalk. I was expecting to see more flowering plants - maybe not the right season. Walked more on the forest trails which was also nice. Lots of people were enjoying the forest!

Movie Theaters
Bangor Drive-In is a seasonal movie theater located just outside Bangor in Hermon. It offers a mix of new releases and classic films, making it a great evening activity for visitors with their own vehicle. The admission fee of $22 per car makes it an affordable option for families, allowing up to seven people to enjoy the movies together. The drive-in has two screens showing family-friendly and PG-13+ movies, catering to different age groups in the area.
Had a great time, watched Jungle Cruise. Beautiful night, great weather for a drive in. Hadn't been to this drive in, In almost 30 years. Use to come here when I was 5, it was a family night on the weekend when the play ground was up front. And the speakers clipped to the window. That is aging me some. 😀 I will do this again, I made new memories tonight. 😀

Really enjoyed my time there. Wish they had answered the phone before we made the hour ride there (wanted to make sure there was availability for a new anticipated movie). Thankfully they had room for us ! Loved how nostalgic it felt, and the sound was great. Most definitely going back

Great place to enjoy a relaxing movie(s) with family or date night. Food is a little pricy but glad they decreased the admission so it's a break even.

At $22 per car load and the reasonable concession prices, you can't go wrong. My family of 7 was able to go and enjoy a movie and good for less than $100. When normally the local theater charges almost $60 just to get tickets. Well worth it to bring the whole family and not have to find sitters if you have young kids. It has 2 screens one with family friendly movies, and one with PG-13+. This is very accommodating when considering the age demographic of the greater Bangor area.
Benjamin W — Google review
First time going last night and what a great experience we had! We got there a little early expecting it to be packed but there were not many cars at all, we had our space and privacy. Every employee we interacted with seemed to be friendly and helpful from the kid directing traffic, I believe his name was Jared, was able to answer our questions and was super friendly, to the manager who let us use bug spray because we were getting bit up. Literally saved us, we thought we were going to have to leave so we appreciated that sooo much! Definitely recommend taking bug spray or a citronella candle if setting up outside the car. Concession stand was stocks and yummy, popcorn was a little stale but staff appeared so accommodating that I’m sure if we walked back they would have replaced it. We were just being lazy, oops! Hopefully they continue to play fun movies and we will definitely keep coming back, would love to see this place stay in business! Definitely something different to do and offers nostalgia.

The Maine Air Museum, established by the Maine Aviation Historical Society in 2000, is a top-notch exhibition space located at Bangor International Airport. It showcases Maine's rich aviation history with an extensive collection of civil, military, and commercial aircraft artifacts. Visitors can explore interactive displays explaining flight principles and enjoy watching planes take off from the airport. The museum also features notable attractions such as the White Bird and a striking silver aircraft at its entrance.
Had a memorable time flying through history at the Maine Air Museum. We even had the opportunity to watch the AN-124 land and wave at us. Absolutely lovely museum with lovely staff sharing their love for aviation. A definite must visit while in Bangor by the airport!

My boys loved this place. It’s legit right next to the landing strip for the Bangor International Airport. We saw like 3planes land 2 military helicopters take off as well as an American Airlines take off. Under a certain age kids are free.

I have always wanted to stop in and look around this small museum located beside Bangor Airport. Today I happened to catch them open after taking my daughter to the Maine Children's Discovery Museum in Bangor. The admission fee is very small for the amount of history housed here. We had an excellent time and spent over an hour looking around and hearing the history from the staff. There are many exhibits from world war one and two, as well as different history of aircraft, flight simulator training, and uniforms. They also have planes, engines, equipment, helicopters, and uniforms on display. I would greatly recommend people to stop in here, and also donate to the museum as they would like to aquire more air craft. Unfortunately they can not afford to do so and could use some help! If you are a fan of aircraft, and the history of aviation this is a great place to learn and appreciate history! If your on route 2 in Bangor stop by and check them out. They are open Saturday and Sunday and again a great little museum!!

This museum is great! It's not super big, but there is plenty to see. There are a few planes and a helicopter on display. There are a number of displays that are interactive to help understand how planes fly, pressurization etc.. There is a bench on a small balcony on the back of the building to view planes taking off from Bangor International Airport. Friendly staff. It is really worth the time to check out.

Interesting small aviation museum on the East side of the airport. I found the history of Bangor to be the most interesting and its part in WWII being the last stop before going to Europe.

Our family went last Sunday and it was great. If you are a history buff or just love planes this is a great stop. We are going again today since this will be their last day open for the year I was told. The volunteers are so polite and it was only $12 for the five of us. Loved it

Amphitheater
Located along the Penobscot River Walkway, Maine Savings Amphitheater is a popular outdoor event space in Bangor. It hosts the annual Waterfront Concert Series, attracting international acts and offering a maximum seating capacity of over 15,000. The venue has undergone renovations and offers well-organized events with friendly staff. However, some visitors found the layout confusing and suggested better signage for direction.
What a wicked cool venue. Probably one of the nicer places in all of Bangor Maine. Right on the river front hosting big names and some nice big names but that’s OK too. There’s a main level seating and some really cool box level seating. That looks awesome. Just like any venue the prices for water popcorn anything else to eat is wicked crazy.
Malcolm G — Google review
I had the chance to attend a private event here recently and was blown away by the experience. The venue itself is already incredible for concerts, but getting a behind the scenes look took it to another level. We got to see the backstage area and the artist lounge, and it was very cool to see where the magic happens before the show. The space is clean, well-organized, and the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable, you could tell they take pride in what they do. Seeing the amphitheater from this angle made me appreciate it even more. Whether you’re here for a show or a special event, this place is top-tier. Looking forward to coming back for a concert soon!
Uchizi P — Google review
Nice venue. Prices of food and drinks are expensive. 1 Beer and a "mega slice" of pizza was 36$ the food cost more than our tix and we had floor seats. That all being said music was good and acoustically speaking the sound was great. By no fault of the venue be prepared for "homeless" they are everywhere around the place as the shelter is across the street.
XXPFBXx K — Google review
Beautiful venue.. right on the water. Visited from KS to see Papa Roach a few weeks back and was impressed. Clean, newly-ish remodeled? Great staff, no bad seats. They did have some pretty messy issues with sound during Rise Against, which was disappointing during that set... Got everything tied up before PR, though, and sound was great for their performance. I'd love to see more shows here!
Justin N — Google review
On August 12, I attended a concert featuring Halestorm and Volbeat. It was my first time seeing a show at that venue. I found it easy to locate our seats, and the space was spotless, with a large walkway and plenty of room to move around. The sound quality was excellent. It was obvious that the managers and developers really knew what they were doing.
Joseph D — Google review
Clean, it was well organized, and I felt safe. I understand why they take the covers off of drink bottles, but that was a bit annoying and inconvenient. Prices were a bit high, but that was to be expected. Plenty of places to park & we had no problem getting out and didn't hit any traffic. Not to mention it was a great show, even with some rain!
Kari S — Google review
Update: Get your HOT TEA here!! To anyone reading this review: Let me lead you down a fun rabbit hole. Go look at the other recent 1 star reviews and look at every response from the venue - they get 10/10 in Deflection Olympics. Holy smokes, I've never seen such "not my fault" responses. Don't like the smokers? Talk to legislation. Don't like the insane price of water? Whatever, we're"comparable". Don't like how absolutely flat and sardined people are? Ignore/mention irrelevant metrics. Reality is if someone is taller than you, enjoy watching their head. Don't like how the audio cuts out for half the concert? It's the BAND'S fault? Just... wow. To the venue: Couple of things here. Your response amounted to morning more than more "not our fault" and blatant disregard for your customers. This infantile response tactic appears to be your go-to for anything critical of the venue, not sure how anyone has missed that. Hopefully more people will see it now too. --- Maine, it's a good thing you're pretty, because this "music venue" is decidedly lousy on the "music" part. Flew in from Kansas City to see one of our favorite bands just to have the audio (one may say, the MOST important part of being an amphitheatre) for it to cut out across half the stage. Was close but still couldn't hear the band and it was static sounding. Terrible. Also, I've never been to a flat (?!) amphitheatre - somehow there's not really any good seats. No smoking inside? Lol, people were smoking everywhere... Gross. Will come back to Maine in general because it's awesome... Other than this venue, that is. Avoid.
Emmy W — Google review
Very clean and well set venue. Two problems. My wife is rather short and there’s not much of a slope so she couldn’t see much of the stage. Also, food and drinks are very expensive. 10$ for a bottle of water is a bit much even if it’s a big bottle.

Nice venue! Had no issues with staff or anything although security could be tighter. The sensor went off for me (I had nothing in my pockets) and I told them I had nothing and they just believed me, didn’t bother double checking. Think of what could’ve happened if I did have something that could harm others, insane. Saw the PBR rodeo there last Saturday. My only issue was people not knowing how to arrive at their seats on time and to not stand in the aisles. Nothing to do with the venue, just terrible situational awareness (typical). Had a great time though!

The Hose 5 Fire Museum, formerly known as Hose House No. 5, has a rich history dating back to its opening in 1897 as Bangor's fire station until it was replaced by a new firehouse in 1993. This historic landmark was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 and now houses a vast collection of firefighting equipment and significant Bangor history.

Shopping mall
Shopping
Bangor Mall is a serene shopping destination featuring a variety of stores, including department stores, popular retail chains, and quick-service eateries. It's the go-to place in the city for picking up souvenirs or updating your wardrobe with top name brands and unique boutiques. From clothing and accessories to sporting goods and jewelry, the mall offers a diverse range of products. You can find well-known brands like Hollister, Victoria's Secret, JC Penney's Sephora, and more.
This mall has three galleries or wings. There are a lot of vacant store fronts, but one wing of the mall is more deserted than the other two. JC Penney, Dick's Sporting Goods, and a furniture/mattress store are the anchor stores. A few mall staples are surviving here: Spencer's, Bath & Body Works, Claire's, Hot Topic. There are some local businesses as well and, interestingly, a couple of local theater groups occupy space here. There are no restaurants in the mall, but there are some nearby. Unfortunately, the campus isn't pedestrian friendly, the pavements are in bad shape, and you can't easily walk from the mall to any of the nearby businesses. The exterior of the mall could use some maintenance. It doesn't appear well kept, unfortunately, and that must make it difficult to attract new businesses.
N. G — Google review
Dying mall that should be put out of it’s misery. 70% vacant, unmaintained interior and parking lot in shambles. If they cared theyd consolodate the remaining stores into 1 wing and close the remaining 2 wings. At least it would be a solid set up that way. Instead you have long stretches that look post apocalyptic. The place doesnt even have music playing over the PA system. Ceiling tiles missing and stained, leaking roof. Thanks a lot Amazon. What a waste. What tenant would ever rationalize renting space in this crap hole? Place is a dump. I feel bad for the people who have to go to work here. How discouraging. And only 1 public bathroom area that is bombed out & filthy. I cant believe teens havent broken into the place at night and torched it yet. This place is that bad.
Joel B — Google review
The pictures I took don’t do it justice how bad it is. I went in the entrance by the old Ruby Tuesdays and there were rats or mice jumping on the entrance and in the grass. Looks like someone hasn’t cleaned the floors in weeks if not longer. There was virtually no landscaping or any attempt to make it look better. The men’s bathroom was completely obliterated and only one functioning urinal with graffiti all over the place. The owners and the city of Bangor should be ashamed. I don’t think it’s even worth saving at this point. Someone posted in another review that it’s “dying”. It’s already dead. Bulldoze it.
Hutch K — Google review
This used to be a great place. The few stores that are left are good. It's amazing they stay in business. Most don't even know any are still open in the mall, since the owners take such horrible care of the road and parking lots. I would love to see something good happen here to see it come back to life.
Ann H — Google review
I used to live in Bangor 25 years ago, and the mall has definitely gone downhill from back then. Very few stores now, maybe one in four shops is occupied, and ones that were occupied, alot of them were closed when we visited. Guess there are some lawsuits going on about the upkeep of the mall, but there's not much there anymore. Don't waste your time!
Steven W — Google review
This place is a great walking facility for those that want a very dark indoor experience if the weather outside is bad out or it's the winter season other than that it's a dead mall. Yeah there is dicks sporting department but other then that as well as American eagle and a few random local stores it's not even worth your time to browse like way back in 2000 when they finally reopened their expansion to include such things as Victoria secret, Macy's, an eye clinic and a few eatery's but they have long since closed their doors and either completely left Bangor or moved to the Stillwater Ave shipping center. They really need to do something with the lighting that detracts from the semiannual craft fair which makes the mall come to life. So many vendors that sell their wares at reasonable prices. The parking lot as well as the drive around the mall is so bad that I even got a flat tire from driving there. You must keep a keen eye out for massive potholes that they just don't fix until it's the size of a 3' wide! So I hope in the future v they revitalize these stores because the reason why they closed shop was initially due to online shipping but now I hear that you need to pay for the problems that the owners of the building should pay to fix. Overall a great indoor walking facility, terrible lighting, and poor roads leads this place to be condemned. I mean just look at their inviting sign for Simon's Bangor mall on the corner of Hogan and Bangor mall Blvd. At least try to make it respectable but nope. It would get zero stars if they stopped people from walking the dark empty halls.
Guy M — Google review
Disgusting... run down, moldy, roof leaks everywhere, 90% of stores closed or empty. 2 of 10 washrooms were in service and those didn’t lock. Suspect a lot of drug use on the property. Religious cards left on all washroom surfaces. Bad post apocalyptic vibe overall - will never go back.
Sherry D — Google review
Severely deteriorating largely abandoned mall with a parking lot that looks like it was cluster bombed because of the severe potholes. Currently improving as little as humanly possible in response to being literally sued by the town for lack of maintenance. Dick's just outside the mall is ok but the mall is generally terrible.

Bangor Public Library is a must-visit spot in the city, housed in a stunning historical building with three floors and a large copper dome roof. It's not just about books; the library offers free WiFi, cozy reading areas, and even a cafe on the ground floor. The architecture of the building is truly remarkable, featuring distinctive domes and archways that are hard to miss as you explore downtown Bangor.
A gem of a historic building with a beautiful dome and a very historic sofa! You'll enter through the new part (and that's a normal public library), but head upstairs to the old part! It has the sofa Hannibal Hamlin, vice president to Abe Lincoln, died on. 😮 Come in, have a look around!

Beautiful library with a massive collection. There is also a $1 book sale area which is addicting and almost always has a good mix of Niche & best seller books. Sometimes I go there to read because it is beautifully constructed. During the winter, it is unfortunately a homeless warming center and has a “crowd” in front of the building and near the entrance so it was be a little different from what I expect. In the summer time it’s a lot of families and book lovers. The librarians have always been helpful and nice.

Great place to hang out! Lots of resources, books, art, computers, and free wifi! The third floor has a great children’s department with an awesome book selection, toys, puzzles, art supplies and great places to sit and read with the kiddos! They have also made improvements to the tween/teen areas over the last few months which is amazing! And a huge selection of board games! The library has great staff as well! Definitely recommend to anyone (especially those with kiddos)!

Wow! The Bangor Public Library is absolutely beautiful! There was such a wide selection, places to print, and space to just hang out. There were so many nice spaces to sit, tables to sprawl out on, and a little cafe even! I couldn’t believe there were instruments, magazines, art supplies, games, and more available for check out. It was super easy to open a library card, all I needed was my license.
Reagan E — Google review
The Bangor Public library is beautiful, has a wonderful cafe at the entrance, and for the first couple of hours was a great space to work in while visiting Bangor. However, it was the loudest library I have ever been to. People were arguing on the second floor, taking loud phone calls every hour, on conference call meetings without headphones, playing card games and slapping the table, and dogs running around barking (I’m a huge dog person, but this was not the place). I walked in on several people doing drugs in the bathroom, a man was overdosing out front, and a young woman was screaming on each floor with just a bra and shorts on. Public spaces are public spaces, but this is a library and should be treated with more respect. I don’t know why the staff didn’t do anything about these issues, it wasn’t hidden in any way.
Landis A — Google review
Always a charming place in downtown. Historical Architecture, and the little Cafe has the BEST ice cream cones. Love this place. It's always so clean in here, and the staff are super helpful and friendly.
Tasha H — Google review
The Bangor Public Library is a perfect example of how a savage land populated by rough men and rougher women desiring to improve their lives and their community can establish an icon of the civilized world despite the inhospitable nature of the environs. To say that the BPL is multi-faceted would be a gargantuan understatement. Here you may find people from all parts of society-from the unfortunate who slept on a park bench the night before trying to get warm to a member of the city council researching (or perhaps hoping to cover up) a controversial family history. BPL accommodates these people and welcomes the patron who might need Internet access or is an old fashioned reader of the pages. Starting with a "few books in a footlocker" and becoming a multi-story fantastic building filled with historicity, art exhibits, day care and monthly gatherings of assorted venues BPL can easily be noticed not only as a local gem but part of the heartbeat of Bangor.

This shop was a fun find! My husband (a HUGE Stephen King fan) and I sought it out after reading about it. We visited in early June (2024) and found the shop closed. As we turned to leave, we ran into the shop owner who was rolling in some stock. He said he hadn’t fully opened for the season yet, but graciously invited us into the shop to look around. We found new and vintage King and horror-theme books, memorabilia, graphic shirts, and more. We hope to visit again!

We tried to stop by recently but the store was closed. It looked exciting from the outside, but it is unfortunate that one of the biggest Stephen King merch stores in Bangor is basically not open. There are no posted hours and it was definitely closed. Tried calling but it went straight to voice-mail and listed no information on when it would be open. I guess just don't count on this as part of your Stephen King centered Bangor visit, since it will likely be inaccessible.

Wow! Do you think working like you is respectful to people? Since you only go to work once a year, at least post a STORE SCHEDULE so that people don't waste their vacation time on useless trips to your store! You run your business in a very strange way. We did a tour with SK Tours, I HIGHLY reccomend it! Lots of cool info on Stephen King's Bangor house. Worth the visit, cool & spooky touches in the grounds.

Loved visiting Bangor, ME. Wished I would have got my Steven King tour tickets in advance. Sad because there are lots of homeless.

My beautiful wife Mrs Jorgensen and I (Mr Jorgensen), enjoyed the view of the outside. The tours hadn't started yet that day so I took photos of the outside. We both were there on our honeymoon/vacation in Honeymoonville Maine in September of 2025

I grew up reading Stephen King and immersing myself in the world of Derry and others. To visit this area was a joy and much to my delight, exactly how I expected it. I visited this area with SK tours, who I highly recommend, and seeing the Kings old home was a treat. It's a beautiful building in a stunning area regardless, but knowing what was created in there made the tummy tingle. As I say, it's worth having a look around the surrounding area as some of the buildings are breathtaking and some house some VIPs. The statue in the old King house was made using a chainsaw and is quite something. This trip was full flavour Bangor, the people of which are some of the warmest and friendliest I have met on my travels. This is a wonderful part of the world that deserves to be appreciated.

Fan boy'd a bit and visited the SK house.. Awesome architecture. Super cool to see the personal details around the property.

West Broadway Street was full of beautiful mansions. Stephen King's house had an interesting tree trunk sculpture and cool fence.
Sheri B — Google review
This historic district of Whitney Park is easily walkable and especially pretty during fall. The Stephen King house and the adjacent buildings have wonderful decorations during Halloween. Downtown Bangor is about 10 mins walk away

This is one of Steven kings houses. Beautiful spot there we're a few people who were there not very busy but if you are in the area you need to check it out
