Hiking area
Prentiss Woods, located on Grandview Avenue, is a 35-acre forested preserve with mature trees and walking trails spanning 7,290 feet. The area offers limited facilities such as scattered benches for relaxation. Adjacent to the City of Bangor nursery, the woods provide a tranquil setting for walking and dog-walking. Visitors can enjoy the chance to encounter wildlife while strolling along intertwining trails and observing uprooted trees.
I'm obsessed with this trail. It's short enough for me to get through on mornings I need to be quick and long enough for me to explore when I want to take my time. My pup sure loves it there, I think we take turns exploring when we're there though. Lol
Misty R — Google review
Great place to walk with lots of intertwining trails. We were surprised at the number of uprooted trees there.
Lisa B — Google review
Beautiful woods, got to see two owls at dusk!
Rose V — Google review
Great, quiet, not sketchy, trail for me to walk my dog on
Aaron B — Google review
Easy hike that takes under 20 minutes to complete. Good walk for kids and dogs.

This use to be my favorite path to walk on w my kids but today there was a tent out there that ppl was definitely staying in which made me feel very unfortunate. Very disappointed. Mom of five and they look forward to our walks here guess it's time to find a new family safe path.

Love walking the trails, its a great place to take a short walk in the middle of the city. Lots of chipmunks 🐿

A decent forest with solid walking paths and a few places to sit and relax. A good chance to see of hear some wildlife.

Nature & Parks
Cascade Park is a charming urban outdoor space located in downtown Bangor, offering scenic views of the Penobscot River. Established in 1934, this park features walking trails, a gazebo, and dedicated picnic areas. It's within walking distance from the main shopping district and provides an ideal setting for enjoying Maine's natural beauty. Additionally, Essex Woods offers rugged terrain popular with mountain bikers and features narrow trails bordering reforested areas and a bog.
Cascade Park is a serene oasis right in the heart of town, offering a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. One of its most captivating features is the stunning series of waterfalls, which provide a soothing soundtrack as you explore the park. The sound of cascading water adds to the park's tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for relaxation. The park is well-equipped with picnic tables, making it a great destination for a leisurely lunch or a family picnic. The tables are strategically placed to offer great views of the waterfalls and the surrounding natural beauty. The lush greenery and the sound of the falls create a peaceful environment, perfect for unwinding. Cascade Park is truly a hidden gem, offering a picturesque and peaceful retreat right in town. Whether you're looking for a place to relax, enjoy a picnic, or simply appreciate the beauty of nature, this park is a must-visit.

Lovely trails right in town. Easy parking. Didn't see if there was a bathroom. Places to picnic. I reccomend!
Gabriella B — Google review
Not sure when things changed but the fountain and park looked like it hasn’t been maintained for a little while. It also seemed super small. Wasn’t really worth stopping at in my opinion. Picture shows what we saw in September 2025
Kristen A — Google review
Fountain is seasonally operated, they turn it off in October and back on in the Spring. There is an artificial stream with waterfall, a nice fountain, some benches, some big old trees, a couple of short walking trails including one loop up a hill, and a small grassy field for frisbee or whatever. Nice place to go for a quiet walk, please keep your dog on a leash and clean up after it 🐕‍🦺💩🪏🚮😎👍. The river is just across the street, but you can't actually see it from the park. Plenty of free parking on site.
David M — Google review
Great place to visit on a hot day. If you are looking for a scenic picnic area, or just out for a small hike, this beautiful park has a working fountain that will cool you off on even the hottest of days, once the wind hits the cool water and you are sprinkled with that refreshing feeling of cool water on a hot day. Bring your friends, bring your dogs, bring your partners and yourself and set off on a tiny hike up to the top of there waterfall area, where all of the water has conjugated. Then enjoy a sit down near the fountain and enjoy the weather and maybe a bit of a picnic.
Valerie H — Google review
Wonderful place to stretch our legs and enjoy the peaceful cascade.
Laurie B — Google review
Nice walk, steep at times, the waterfall was not working at the time but the park is beautiful.

It was very quiet when I visited it here which meant it was very peaceful and relaxing. The whole place was well maintained and totally free of rubbish. The fountain wasn't on but there was still plenty to see and appreciate.

Park
Essex Woods is a picturesque natural area that offers peaceful trails for walking and biking during the warmer months. Birdwatchers flock to the hill to observe the diverse avian population in the wetlands. In winter, it transforms into a popular sledding spot. The park features walking and jogging trails, bike paths, a dog park, kids' play area, basketball court, and ample parking space.
I know it's supposed to be a bike path but I never see bikers and my dog loves walking here
Adam H — Google review
I always saw some people walking on a path near a bog beside the interstate, but I never knew where it originated until now. I am so glad I found it. This area not only has a walking/jogging trail, but there are bike trails, a dog park, a kids park, as well as a basketball court, and plenty of parking space. While most of the trails/paths are maintained well, the outer areas could use improvements, especially with the downed trees and slippery muddy areas.
Joyce C — Google review
Lovely woods, but trails are not well marked so it'shard to tell where you're going. There's a trail around a pond, a babbling brook, and a mix of forest and fields. Several mountain biking trails.
Lindsey I — Google review
Great walking/bike trail system that’s good for dogs and kids. Had a fun time here

Beautiful place for a walk!!! Some part of the trails are harder then others. Beautiful any part of the day!!
Heidi S — Google review
A nice place for a walk. This is a nice place to walk a bit without going to far or for too long. The trails are kept in good condition and the woods and swamp area are very pretty. The place is dog friendly and have three dog play areas next to the parking lot. The problem with the trails is the the homeless uae it as a sleeping area and leave a lot of waste in places. I have not biked the bike trails yet.

Park
Walden-Parke Preserve is a 410-acre area focused on nature conservation, featuring various habitats such as beaver wetlands. It is located between the Penjajawoc Marsh and the Caribou Bog and offers public trails sponsored by the Bangor Land Trust. The preserve provides a quieter alternative to other nearby areas, with wide main trail loops and numerous side trails for more adventurous hikers.
A great little hidden gem outside of Bangor. The main trail loop is wide and has tons of little side trails for the more adventurous type. Nothing too hard, though.
Nik B — Google review
Love it here. Lots of trails for hiking, walking, and mountain biking. One of my homes away from home!
Benjamin P — Google review
Quiet walking/hiking/biking trails, rough in spots but not too hard.
Jeff C — Google review
Nice place to go if you are in the area or looking for another place to walk, jog, or bike. Could use a public restroom of some sort (even if pay to use), and marker on the trails could be more noticeable. Plus, I don't care to see gas line notices on the trail. Further, during hunting season, make sure you wear orange.
Joyce C — Google review
Came here to ride my bike. Trails are very rough with many rocks and roots. This place is better suited for hiking.
TravelUSA — Google review
I never knew this preserve existed until yesterday. I usually hike the mountains, but with less daylight this time of year I needed something closer by to curb my outdoor itch. This was way less crowded than the Bangor City Forest which made it so much more desirable. Although I parked at the BCF, I ended up in Walden on accident, but it was one of the best accidents I've had. In total I managed to squeak out just about 10 miles of walking and barely moderate "hiking" while here.
Brian D — Google review
Not crowded. Connects to Bangor forest and Penjajawok at various points so there are several miles of trails
Meridith B — Google review

City park
Bangor City Forest, also known as the Rolland F. Perry City Forest, is a peaceful 650-acre recreational area located just 5 miles outside downtown Bangor. It offers a mile-long elevated Orono Bog Boardwalk that showcases the forest's unique ecology. The working forest provides ample trails for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, making it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking to immerse themselves in Maine's tranquil outdoors.
It's always so nice and peaceful. There are multiple trails including the board walk. Trails are well marked and mapped. When you do run into others in the trail everyone is friendly and nice. There are places to sit, bike trails, a porter potty, and different types of terrain to walk on which is nice. It's a great local getaway.
Tia — Google review
Such a nice and beautiful place to ride bikes and go for a walk amongst the Wild in maine.
Tay G — Google review
The bog walk was an easy trek with lots to look at along the way. It was shaded on the way in and out, with a sunny section in the middle of the loop. There were a couple of benches throughout where you could take a break and nature watch. Parking was full, but there was an overflow lot.
Michelle K — Google review
I was super impressed with this park. I wish I lived near a park like this! What a gem for the city of Bangor! Lots of well marked trails. Not a lot of elevation if you are looking for a hill workout but great, shaded trails for walking or running. The Bog walk boardwalk is also super nice, well maintained with lots of informational plaques about the environment and wildlife/birds who call the bog home.
Kristen A — Google review
Wonderful big park for easy hiking, trail running, or biking. Tall trees provide lots of shade. Paths are clearly marked with maps posted at intersections. There are primary and secondary trails, so lots of options for exploring. Trails are dog friendly; I had my pup with me, and we saw many others walking their dogs too. Heavily visited park but didn't feel crowded; getting there early is best if you want a quiet secluded walk. My only complaint is that the parking lot I parked in was NOT labeled on the posted maps, so I had to use GPS to make it back to my car.
Lindsey I — Google review
Close to Bangor with lots of trails for all. Great running, biking, and hiking.

A delightful find, near Bangor International Airport. A beautiful 😍 place for a walk while waiting for your flight, when it's too early to check in at the airport, but you've had to check out of your hotel or BNB. One last rendezvous with Maine's beautiful nature and a chance to stretch our leg before our long flight home. Kudos to my husband for finding it online. And yet another chance to learn a few things.

Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of urban life, Brown Woods offers a serene escape into nature. This tranquil woodland features wide trails that meander through a stunning mixed-growth forest, showcasing majestic old-growth Eastern White Pines. Whether you're walking on dry ground or navigating patches of snow, the paths are well-maintained and accessible for all visitors. As you explore this peaceful haven, you'll encounter diverse wildlife that thrives even in proximity to the city.
Peaceful, trails are well maintained, it is a nice get away close to town. Not a very long walk but what it has to offer is still very nice.
Tia — Google review
Nice, very quiet and peaceful. Trails are about . 6 miles but you can walk the outer loop trail a few times to get more exercise.
Steven C — Google review
Our first time going there and it was an awesome experience the trail is very nice a lot of different options and doesn't even seem like you're in the middle of a city while walking through it's very peaceful and I highly recommend this place for a quick getaway and some beautiful wildlife!
Natasha L — Google review
Today was my first time walking the trail here. The trail was very well maintained and there are geochaches for those who are interested. It's a beautiful location and quiet for a nice getaway from the city for half an hour to hour.
Stephanie D — Google review
Incredible trails. Tons of wildlife even in the city!
KevinKJ S — Google review
The trails were a mixture of dry ground & snow, but very manageable. My puppies had a great time! Only disappointing thing was there was a lot of dog poop on the trail. People are supposed to pick up after there animals so that we can all enjoy where we walk without having to dodge "mine fields of poop"
Judie S — Google review
Nice bit of woods to walk, the trails are in good shape and it has beautiful mature trees with little hints of marsh. Needs a bin and bags to encourage people to pick up after their dogs. Also, the parking lot is in horrible condition, huge potholes all over it.

My family and I go for walks daily and this is a place we go alot. There's a small pond here, never swam in it but pretty seeing all the turtles and fish. There's always an owl out too that we see every walk.

Northeast Penjajawoc Preserve is an 80.5-acre forested wetland area located off Kittredge Road, just outside Bangor. The trail offers a natural and scenic experience with hiking and biking trails that lead to wildlife sightings. The preserve features well-maintained trails, some of which include bog crossing bridges and steep hills, providing a diverse experience for visitors.
Hiked the double loop: Cattail loop and Wood Frog loop. Beautiful way of walking in the forest
Sarah D — Google review
Great trails...but one preserve melded into another as we tried to get to the swamp overlook. We must a took a right at the r.r. bed instead of a left. Loved the bridge!
Dover-Foxcroft T — Google review
This is a great trail for any season and it has been recently upgraded with some gravel and new bridges.
Jacob T — Google review
I like these Woods even though they tend to be spooky and dark, and there are foot bridges, roots and big rocks all over. One time I got lost in the Bangor Forest on my bike and ended up in this preserve, which is definitely not bike friendly because you have to carry your bike over the bridges rocks and roots , but it is right next door to the Bangor Forest. I was lucky to get out of The Preserve right before dark, because I would have been surprised if I saw the black bear which lived somewhere around in there and wanders around in the Bangor Forest as well. But I think the bear is used to people, because one lady I talked to saw the bear three times-- first as a cub then a little older and then a third time and on its legs it's maybe 6 ft tall now.
Rose V — Google review
Really beautiful! We were visiting from California and hiked the trail with our 2.5 year old daughter. She loved hopping off the rocks on the trail and walking on the foot bridges. We went in mid October so most if the leaves were down but there were still some really beautiful colors. It's a very easy 2mi hike but great to do with kids
Emmeline G — Google review
My wife two-year-old and I did this hike Sunday afternoon. I would love to come back with my mountain bike sometime. It looks very challenging and like lots of fun. Probably about 2 miles doing the longest loop. It is also a very scenic and rough trail.
Benjamin F — Google review
Just on the outskirts of Bangor behind all the shopping outlets this gem is to be found. The trail is very natural, meaning you walk in part over the natural obstacles like roots, leaves or stones. Other parts of the trail are.more tame or have additional attractions, like bog crossing bridges. Some of the trail is more of a steep hill, most is plain and even for the not so much agile doable. What makes this a true pearl is how close to nature you feel. From ponds to trees and rocks, everything feels very untouched and primeval. A tiny piece of paradise a stone throw away from civilization.

The Paul Bunyan Statue in Bangor, Maine has been a prominent landmark since 1959. Standing at 31 feet tall, this colorful fiberglass statue was a gift from a New York group of builders to commemorate their 125th anniversary. It depicts the legendary lumberjack alongside his blue ox and has become a popular photo spot for visitors. The statue is located in Bass Park and serves as a tribute to Bangor's forestry heritage, attracting thousands of tourists annually.
Parking is iffy. If you’re quick you can get away with parking at the gas station across the way. Simple but quick activity to do with the kids. Fun to see how little they are in comparison to the monstrosity that is Paul Bunyan!
Zandra M — Google review
If you are doing a drive-by, you have the Entertainment so there's no traffic coming. It might be easier to park somewhere to take a picture. We got lucky as it wasn't real busy.
Karen B — Google review
This was a lot larger than I imagined and I really liked it. The statue was in really good condition and the info boards surrounding it are well worth reading as the whole story about the man and the statue is interesting and fun. Well worth a visit if you're nearby and it is only a short walk from the waterfront so the two combined can use up a few hours.

Very nice detail on the statue and very informative information on the posts around the statue. The landscaping was a bit unkept, but overall a nice visit.

Mount Hope Cemetery Corp. & Crematory in Bangor, Maine is the second oldest garden cemetery in the United States, designed by architect Charles G. Bryant in 1834. The cemetery spans over 250 acres and offers a serene atmosphere for reflection and exploration of Maine's history through its well-maintained paths and historic monuments. Visitors can join guided tours to learn about the town's history or simply take a leisurely stroll around the beautiful grounds.
Immaculately kept, huge amount of history. Such a peaceful place to visit. Being keen horror watchers, the Stephen King aspect was also of interest to us. This was not frowned upon at all by the staff. They even supplied us with a map pointing to the points of interest on the subject. If you are near here, it is a great place to take some time out and learn a lot.
Nick D — Google review
Beautiful cemetery. Well keep. Nice place to drive through and stop for a little tour.
Teresa M — Google review
This is a must see destination for any fan of Stephen King! The cemetery is well maintained, large and very beautiful. The groundskeepers were friendly and not at all phased by a couple of movie/literature nerds roaming the grounds! Just make sure you are being respectful! The hunt for the famous markers that lead to inspiration for the novels “Carrie” and “It” were fun to explore the grounds for! Seeking spots where parts of Pet Sematary were filmed was even more fun! We paid our due respects to the residents and left with some neat photos. Highly recommend this stop for fans! Please, please, just be mindful and respectful.
Krystle P — Google review
An insane amount of history here. If you love walking around cemeteries, just know that this one is huge. I was there a couple hours on a hot day and only scratched the surface before my water was gone. It is clearly cared for, albeit dry like the rest of the area. I stayed in what I believe are the oldest sections. Some of the headstones are like works of art. So many stories here dating back well over 100 years.
Lisa W — Google review
We searched for a lovely, scenic, quiet and historic special spot for our child to rest in peace. We discovered Mt Hope. We decided upon the Scattering Garden Memorial area. Emily and Steve, superintendents, made us welcome in the lodge with an appointment. We were able to pick a garden spot, were assisted with placing our cremains and the Bronze plaque on Memorial Wall is well done. The option was perfect for our family; dignified special, lovely and affordable. Thank you Mt Hope, Emily and Steve. Mt Hope, a historic American garden cemetary is also a peaceful spot to walk or jog on a summer evening with many paths and hills.
JKC M — Google review
Really a beautiful cemetery in its own right - the older section has beautiful monuments and hills and stairs - definitely much more interesting than your average cemetery. If you're a Stephen King fan, you can see where he took some of his names from grave stones, and even places where they shot some of the adaptations that King was in. It's confusing to drive around, but just keep going and you'll find interesting stuff. It'd be a great place to walk if you live here. (Make sure to book sktours for an explanation of the King tie-ins.)
Sara W — Google review
I am not one to venture to cemeteries for fun, but this one was an exception and I am glad I went. This is a very beautiful cemetery and on a pleasant fall day it was very relaxing in the middle of the pandemic. There are some fascinating headstones combined with the tie to the King novel, it just all came together.
Perks A — Google review
The gates that I went to were closed on weekends. This is the gates next to the Koren War memoral and civel war memoral.. this cemetery is the second oldest in the United States after the one in Boston, Ma that it was patterned after. It's called that because of the landscaping with ponds, shrubs and spacing of the graves.

Kenduskeag Stream Trail is a 4.6-mile urban trail that offers a scenic out-and-back route through the heart of the city. It runs along the confluence of the Penobscot River and Kenduskeag Stream, an area historically significant for its access to the sea and abundant fishing. The trail showcases remnants of old mills along the stream banks, providing a glimpse into the region's industrial past.
Several picnic areas, but the downtown portion doesn't have a designated parking area. Trail is rough in several areas and the trash can be significant, but the views are worthwhile for a city trail.
Da C — Google review
Do Not Walk Your Dog Here there are needles everywhere. The trail itself is beautiful. Unfortunately it is not maintained by the city despite being so close. Garbage and needles are scattered throughout the trail making it incredibly unsafe and turns a relaxing walk into a grim reminder of Bangor's general drug and homelessness issue.
Ros J — Google review
This trail is a disgrace to the city of Bangor. Two steps in and all I can see is discarded hypodermic needles and trash. Evidence of rampant drug use with no consequences. If you want to catch hepatitis or HIV by stepping on discarded needles come to this “trail”. It’s a hazard to public health and the city of Bangor should step up and clean this mess.
Freidrichm — Google review
It’s beautiful but it’s also sad I seen homeless people and drug paraphernalia on the actual trail 👀.
Jeremy B — Google review
Very beautiful nature with some cute wildlife. Unfortunately there’s a ton of trash, needles, and people actively using. Saw a used needle next to a duck. There was a makeshift burn pit next to a memorial. The bridge also had several large gaps between the boards, easily could seriously injure a small child or dog. I wish I could say I enjoyed but walked away after seeing a large group of people using after we crossed the bridge and decided to go home. The city really should maintain this area better.
Mason P — Google review
Disgusting. Residential Garbage and litter everywhere. Homeless and vagrants have encamped the entire trail. Needles and medical waste on the ground. Gross. Bangor City Hall, at the start of the trail and sharing the same parking lot, should be ashamed.
Srt-Matt C — Google review
I love walking the stream path but the city needs to do a better job of keeping it clean. I can only pick up so much trash on my own :(
Sam L — Google review
Beautiful walk across a bridge, however the borads are a little loose, and the homeless everywhere makes it an uncomfortable walk especially when you can feel them watching and here them talking about you.

Park
Broadway Park is a delightful urban oasis that beautifully balances tranquility and recreation. This well-maintained park features an expansive field perfect for outdoor activities, making it an excellent spot for families to enjoy quality time together. While the playground offers a solid play structure and swings, it could benefit from additional equipment like seesaws or sandboxes to keep younger children engaged. Despite its proximity to a busy road, the distance from the play area ensures safety while kids explore their imaginations.
Great park! Beautiful houses and old trees to look at. A nice little evening jaunt.

Love this place. The area is so big it takes up both sides of the road. New playground is pretty awesome, they even installed some outdoor exercise equipment. Plenty of easy parking makes this place a no brainer,. Good job to the city of Bangor.

This expansive park features a vibrant playground that captivates toddlers, complete with swings designed for little ones. Older kids can enjoy the skateboarding park, basketball courts, and ample open fields perfect for running around or playing games like Frisbee. The seasonal public swimming pool adds to the excitement during warmer months, while picnic tables provide a lovely spot for families to relax and enjoy meals together.
It's such a beautiful park. It has a park for kids, skatepark, basketball courts, and waterpark. There's picnic tables and plenty of space for kids to run around.
Cheryl M — Google review
Nice playground with the skate park and all kinds of playground equipment. It is right next-door to a baseball field a basketball court and what seems to be a pretty cool pool for the area. Lots of free parking to get there before one.
Malcolm G — Google review
Such a great place to take kids. Our son loves the playground and watching the skateboarders at the skate park across the field from it. Also have the beth pancoe pool in the same parking lot which is nice and pretty affordable. I wish there were bathrooms available for the playground and such, that would make staying longer much easier.
Ashley G — Google review
The water slides have a 48” height minimum despite no mention of it on the website or proper signage. Kids were very disappointed to say the least. Even offered to show the lifeguard our kids could swim a 25m independently
Michelle S — Google review
Has a skate park and a good playground. It also has a great little league area.

Brought the kids to swim. It was fantastic fun. And then the kids wanted to play at the playground when the pool closed. My only negative thought was that the hours were really short so just make sure you plan your visit within the open times.

This fair is a highlight of the year, offering an array of attractions such as thrilling rides, engaging animal shows featuring grizzly bears and Bengal tigers, and plenty of opportunities for petting farm animals.
We just happened to be driving by when we saw the races going on, so we stopped and parked and watched them for a little bit. It was really fun and our 5 year old had such a blast watching the horses run.

Chapin Park is a delightful oasis that offers a variety of activities for families and individuals alike. With its expansive grassy areas, well-maintained playground, and scenic walking paths, it’s the perfect spot to spend quality time outdoors. During the summer months, children can participate in engaging programs while winter brings the joy of ice skating. The park's shaded benches provide an ideal retreat for parents looking to unwind with a good book as their kids play nearby.
I spend so much time here with the kids. The play structures seem to never get old and there is so much space for them to run around. I love finding a shady tree to read a book while the kids hav fun. Bangor's neighborhood parks are the best!

What a beautiful quiet clean well manicured park. The playground here for the kids is super impressive and the free open space to roam and run is nothing short of awesome. Very easy to get to and easy parking up and down every street. We are really enjoying this quiet place of Bangor!

Large grassy area compliments a decent, newer style playground. A Paved path around the perimeter allows for measured walks in a peaceful residential atmosphere with a elementary school next door.

This is a gorgeous, clean, safe park. I bring my dog here daily. There are trash bins, the lawn is kept up and they even provide doggie bags 😊 Highly recommended 👌

Definitely your quintessential, quaint park. Yup. It's quaint. And quintessential. You can do park-y things here, like bike riding and birthday parties and watching grass grow. Literally any park fantasy you have you can bring here-- JUST ADD WATER! Seriously. Bring water. Hydrate or die-drate, my friend. You're welcome. Now you won't be too thirsty next time you visit Chapin Park. No need to thank me. Just your friendly, neighborhood Google Maps reviewer here, reviewing a... Park? Look. Stillwater Park Playground is a delightful neighborhood gem that offers an expansive grassy area shaded by mature trees, making it perfect for family outings and leisurely picnics. The playground features accessible equipment, including swings and a tall jungle gym that appeals to older kids. A well-maintained sidewalk encircles the park, providing easy access for walkers and joggers alike. Visitors can often be seen enjoying various activities like stickball or simply soaking up the sun on one of the benches scattered throughout the park.
What a lovely place to go enjoy the evening and morning or the middle of the day. Like most other Bangor parks. This place is really large and has a ton of up in space for kids. Dogs are grown adults just to run around. The playground is nice seems newer, and well kept. As again normal for the cities park there’s plenty of parking around the park itself.
Malcolm G — Google review
Large open space here in a wonderful neighborhood. However the equipment here is somewhat dated compared to other older parks in less desired neighborhoods! Giant slide pleases my kids every time however

Great area, lots of grassy space to play around, new playground, has a lot to do! Basketball area, swings and lots of jungle gym equipment. Seems more geared for older youngsters as it is quite tall, as well as surfaces on climbing apparatus are very slippery with any moisture on them! Good place to play and have a picnic!
Corrie P — Google review
This is a neighborhood park with a playground, a sidewalk around the perimeter, a few mature tress and a large lawn expanse. I see kids there regularly, saw some guys playing stick ball once, always people walking the path around it. There are a few benches and some trash cans as well. It's nice for a neighborhood park. Minus a star for how wet it is. Did the Penjajowac marsh used to extend all the way into this neighborhood? I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. I'm not sure how much could be done about this, so I guess when I take the pup on long leash Frisbee time I'll just take a towel for our feet until summer when it will hopefully dry out a bit.

Not a tennis court, but more of a paddle ball court (1/2 size) cute little playground, quite high for small kids, but has swings, playground, basketball court, picnic tables and overall seemed pretty clean.
J M — Google review
Very cute park with a really fun playground. One thing that I noticed was the playground structure felt like it should have been buried in the ground a couple another foot or so, but my kiddo kind of loved jumping down from the slide, haha. There was also lots of shade from trees which is always nice.
Amanda — Google review
Not a bad little park. My biggest cons were that there are no bathrooms, and no benches or tables by the playground area. Other than that it was nice. The Play structure isn't for littles, I'd say at least five year olds. Anyone younger will have a hard time. There are two pickle ball courts and a basketball court to use. There is a small pavilion with two picnic tables over by the basketball court.
Kodi L — Google review
Good playground structure, plenty of shade. The only place to sit is 100+ feet from the playground, not really family friendly. There were people taking up the only two benches and smoking cigarettes. Can't forget, NO BATHROOMS.
Caitlin P — Google review
We were just passing by and I haven't been here really to hang out or bring any kids by since the homeless people are squatting in that area.. I mean it awesome that Bangor has designated a place for them to do just that but unfortunately a few bad eggs will ruin the reputation of the whole community of people up there that come on really hard times. I would give this park 5⭐️'s but because of the situation so close by I'm going to have to give it a hard 4

This beautiful park for kids of all ages is rite along the Penobscot River . It has a dog friendly area that is far enough away from the children's activities, so you are comfortable. Also close enough so your spouse or friend can walk your furry friend and remain in contact with you while you have your little ones enjoying the playground equipment! it's clean, has indoor well maintained public restrooms, even a picnic area. Stores and restaurants near by . A definite must see if your ever in the old town Area.

Plenty of parking and food trucks during events. There were all kinds of food trucks and fun and a stage for Fourth of July festivities. Plenty of tables were also in place where you could sit down and enjoy your meal. Walking distance to lots of different cool shops as well.

He was able to park in handicapped parking without a parking pass, golf cart ride to gate, wheel chair ride to upgraded ADA seating center stage behind 100’s, elevated view. Staff was amazing, from parking to seating, especially the cowboy hat wearing lead(sorry, I forgot her name), and wait staff were very accommodating, with no complaint when we requested ice for him due to swelling. Central Penjajawoc Preserve is a vast 182-acre expanse of forests and fields, offering a peaceful and tranquil setting for visitors. The preserve features an easy 1.5-mile lollipop loop hike on a well-established trail through the woods, with some sections passing through pines, over streams, and fields. While the trail may be muddy in places and have roots that could pose challenges for small children, it offers a beautiful walk through the woods with various trail options to explore.
The grasslands are a much harder walk than the woods. No dogs are allowed and when the grass is long, you may want to wear long sleeves and pants as it'll be even more of a challenge (plus bugs, thorns, and seeds of all sorts). The good thing is, it's usually quiet and peaceful due to the difficult terrain and easy to miss entrance
Cedric F — Google review

This is one of my favorite hikes in this area. It is often very muddy and some sections have roots that may be hard for small kids to navigate. There are sections of trail that go through pines, over streams and fields. One section of field is not well marked, but overall it's a nice little hike.

It's a good park with plenty of room for running around and playing sadly though the homeless people like to gather up down in the corner of the park and do they're drugs and nod out and make a mess, so I would recommend that if you do go to this park that you try to get there a little earlier than them and leave when you see them coming, it's very sad that I have to tell the kids that they have to leave the park instead of them people leaving and shame on them for not Respecting parents and children!

Mount Pleasant Cemetery is a serene and historic burial ground located between State Street and Mount Hope Avenue in Bangor. The cemetery features scenic trails, paved roadways, and a large mausoleum situated atop a steep hill with a Gothic-style appearance. It exudes a sense of history with its old graves dating back many years. Despite appearing small from the road, it extends further back and includes a wooded area near the Kedusgeak river.
I am searching for my paternal grandmother, a Bangor resident most of her life. Volunteer Mary Richard took the time and trouble to help me. Her care and expertise was invaluable.

Very nice place to visit, reflect, or just talk a walk to clear your head. Share your smile remembering the past shed a tear of sorrow and then of all the good times. Easy to find parking is available so no need to worry you've got time but don't waste it breathe deep and let it all out. I would definitely visit again summer day or early spring it never a bad time

My daughters grave is well kept. I heard it has a new staff there now... The people who worked there when my daughter passed away were very kind to me. Not rude at all. They sat and explained things to me. They took their time when I was deciding which plot I wanted. They never rushed me.
Patricia M — Google review
Interesting place to walk. The cemetery is split by the highway but both halves are accessable by Ohio Street. It's got a large mausoleum on top of a tall steep hill that looks like something out of a Gothic style movie. The front gate has lion heads on them and there are plenty old graves dating way back giving it a very historic feel. From the road it looks like a small cemetery however it goes a lot further back. On the far back side is a small wooded area just before the Kedusgeak river. If you are in the park on Valley Ave and walking the path on the other side of the river (accessable via Harlow street which connects to Valley Ave) you can see the cemetery peaking through the woods. I was standing in the cemetery a few Octobers ago when a huge flock of crows flew over the mausoleum and over the cemetery, it was a very picturesque scene. It's not a huge cemetery but it's an interesting place to take a walk on a sunny day. Some people don't like the highway cutting through the middle but I feel it gives it a unique feeling as the hillside from the valley stream, to the highway, to the cemetery is 3 teared (as tall as a 8 to 10 story building in height). Trivia: The cemetery used to be 1 whole piece however lots of graves where moved when the highway was built. A very tall bridge was built over the kendugeag stream that leads to the side of the valley were the highway spits the cemetery. The two halves are set up even higher on hills and yet another bridge connects one side of Ohio street to the other. If you are standing on the Ohio St. overpass looking between the two halves of the cemetery you can see the long curved bridge that passes over the kenusgeak Stream and yet another road that runs under that tall bridge. If you are scared of heights this may not be a place for you to stand (on the Ohio St overpass), but it will give you a since of the almost hidden and often overlooked sense of shear heights of that area. 1st the Velley Ave road running on the far side of the stream under the tall curved highway bridge that passes over both Valley Ave & Kendusgeak stream, to an even higher spot atop the Ohio St. overpass. If you were to stand near the mausoleum you will also notice a very steep tall hillside that places you up higher still. However most the wooded area blocks the view, however during the late fall early winter when the leaves are off the trees, standing next to the mausoleum and looking just right through the trees gives you a real sense of breathtaking heights of the area. Because people pass through this area fast and because of a lot of foliage people don't realize the almost hidden dynamic angles and views of that area. It's a hidden gem of perspectives.

May be interesting for fans of Stephen King's work - it was this that inspired the writer to create Pet Sematary (Original) Любопытное ухоженое кладбище. Может быть интересно для фанатов творчества Стивена Кинга - именно оно вдохновило писателя на создание "Кладбища домашних животных"

Davenport Park is a serene oasis that boasts beautifully maintained greenery and a gentle hillside located just east of the river. This charming park features a poignant memorial dedicated to the USS Maine, which tragically sank in Havana Harbor during the Spanish-American War in 1898. Visitors often flock to its expansive lawn for leisurely picnics while enjoying the vibrant foot traffic around them, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and reflection amidst nature's beauty.
Beware. Even though across from police station. Homeless haven where people are walking around all crazy waving their arms and screaming at themselves. Pretty sure people were also hitting the pipe. (They definitely were down the street by the donut place) Wanted to do yoga here, but wasn't even comfortable walking on the sidewalk past this place

30Bangor Dog Park

Dog park
If you're looking for a delightful outing with your furry friend, the Bangor Dog Park is an excellent choice. This park offers a spacious and secure environment where dogs can frolic off-leash, ensuring they have plenty of fun without interruptions. The facility features separate areas for small and large dogs, catering to their different needs. While the small dog area may feel somewhat limited due to its size and layout, it still provides a cozy spot for little pups to enjoy themselves.
Nice park. Relatively small, as far as Maine parks go, but decent sized for a city park. Bags and trash, but no water. There are three park spaces; large dogs, small dogs, and a training area. Ground cover is mostly sandy/dirt with trees at the back of the park for shade. People were friendly and dogs were great playing together.
Kindred W — Google review
Not just a dog park. There are lots of bike and walking trails. And a basketball court! So beautiful out there. Highly recommend.
Tay G — Google review
Separate play areas for large and small dogs. We used the big dog area, and there's lots of room for running and playing. Trees provide shade. The ground is covered in fine gravel, so it wasn't muddy. Water hose is avaliable, along with baby pools and water bowls. As with all dog parks, some people don't clean up after their dogs, but it wasn't too bad. Locals were super friendly.
Lindsey I — Google review
This place is wonderful! There are multiple pins set up for different size dogs. Trails that are wide, and maintained. My dog spends hours walking the trails and running around in the pins. There are pools filled with water on hot days! Bowls have been placed in the pins for drinking when your pup gets thirsty. There are balls and all kinds of things to keep them busy and socializing. 🥰 My only issue is the equipment in one of the pins and on a trail of to the left is the ramp is broken and could cause injury. It should either be removed or replaced.

Great size park with multiple enclosures for different sizes dogs. Picnic tables for seating under the shade. Hose water for the dogs. No bathrooms, not even a porta potty. The dog area itself had gravel and I honestly wasn't a fan because some dogs like to kick up the ground after going potty and those rocks were really flinging far!
Tia O — Google review
Has sections for different size dogs. Well-kept fields, drip water available, plenty of parking.
Kim M — Google review
Park looks nice, but the only seems to take care of one side and not the other. No water fountain/ station for the dogs. Lots of mosquitoes and some dog owners don't seems to pick their pets waste, be careful when you stepping.
Yves Y — Google review
Great dog park. Separate areas for large and small dogs. Dogs are well behaved with plenty of room to get energy out. Great for visitors traveling with pets. Large dog area has shade, water, lots of room.

The West Penjajawoc Grasslands is a delightful destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. With its expansive open fields, this area offers scenic walking paths that are perfect for a leisurely stroll or an invigorating bike ride. Wildlife sightings are common here; on my last visit, I was thrilled to spot several beavers swimming nearby and even caught glimpses of bobolinks in the distance.
Fun place to bike around, and most of the time you'll be lucky enough to see some wild life. Last time I went, I managed to see several beavers swimming around!
Brian W — Google review
The walking paths aren't too long. I think the main draw is the grassland. Way, way off in the distance you could see bobolinks which was pretty cool. This is about a 10 minute stop.
