Nature & Parks
Campground
Nestled in the picturesque hills of Oceanside, Guajome Regional Park is a delightful escape for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. This expansive park features serene lakes, tranquil ponds, and lush marshlands that create a perfect backdrop for outdoor activities. With 4.5 miles of multi-use trails winding through oak woodlands and meadows, visitors can enjoy hiking, biking, or simply strolling while soaking in the stunning scenery.
Big and nice park, some unpaved trails along the lake, a lot of ducks and some people fishing at the lake. Parking is $3 but it will increase to $5 after 2/18. Dog on leash allowed.

I love coming to this park. It’s relatively quiet, peaceful, and big enough where it’s great to get a nice trail walk in without going too far! I paid for the yearly parking rate in January, which was $25. Soooo worth it. The daily rate is not worth it if you come multiple times! The rate is now doubled to $50 a year or $5 a day. Be sure to look out for duck and horse poop on the trails. The campground is also relatively quiet, and I’ve never had any issue or concern with the occupants that stay there when I’m walking around. My only wish is that they had better irrigation for the grass hills. It can be quite muddy during rainy season- even if several days go by of sunshine, there seems to always be mud on the nice green hills.
R M — Google review
Such a beautiful and relaxing spot to spend time in nature! The peaceful trails are perfect for a morning walk or afternoon hike, and the variety of birds makes it a birdwatcher’s paradise. Beautiful scenery, lots of trails and paths, and plenty of nature to enjoy. Highly recommend for a relaxing outdoor escape.
Julia B — Google review
Awesome park with lots to do. Playground for the kids, BBQ pits for the grill daddys, lake front trail for the bikers and runners, and even a small RV camping lot. My group decided to BBQ, olay horseshoes, and volleyball today. Awesome spot for outdoor fun of all kinds.
Gymkhana J — Google review
Second time renting cabin A. The oven was out of order when we arrived on July 1st. Hopefully, they will fix that soon. The campground is clean, and there are plenty of walking trails to enjoy solo or with your families. Compared to other cabins, the price is right and affordable.
Felicia G — Google review
Great hidden treasure off the 76 in North County. There’s plenty of trails here for walking , biking and horseback riding. Trails are clearly marked and have speed warning signs for people on bikes. There’s a campground nearby and an attached parking area that cost $3 for the day. I opted to park on one of the residential streets across from the entrance to the trails. The trails go past two lakes and there a few little bridges that span the streams that feed into the lakes. I saw lots of birds, a rabbit and a weasel of some sort. There are warning signs for rattlesnakes but I didn’t see any reptiles. Great park with decent selection of trails. There a sparingly few trash cans so please take your trash with you and keep the park clean
Nick B — Google review
First time camping here and it's always been a place I wanted to try. Always booked and now I see why. It's very nice and clean and best camping in the area that's not the harbor. Truly ONLY major thing that I was let down by was that they close the trails or lake access after dark. People have flashlights and it's nice in the summer evenings to take a late evening walk. Also they need to cut more area around the lake for sitting and enjoying the view. The north side is so overgrown that literally useless besides a walking path.
Josh B — Google review
Nice area to walk and ride. I've been on my bike going through the trails (just stay off the nature hike because is pedestrian traffic only) taking in the calmness of it all. I do wish to camp here one day but sadly, it's always full when I check. Great places to fish and picnic or even just to take a quick nap next to a tree on the grass?

Buccaneer Park is an open-air park located on the Pacific Ocean in Carlsbad, CA. The park includes a pier with views of the ocean, a big playground with a lot of picnic tables and benches, and a gazebo with plenty of comfortable seating. There are no restrooms in the park, but there is plenty of free parking. The beach at Buccaneer Park is mostly rocks but does have a shower and lifeguard station.
It’s a unique park due to the location, facilities, and patrons. There’s a decent playground, full basketball court, public restroom, just across Buccaneer beach (a small beach) surrounded by expensive residence and I bet also vacation rental, the patrons of the park to me were quite interesting (in good and bad ways). There’s a cafe right at the park, how unique is that? Not everyday you get a park with a cafe.
Vera — Google review
Small but clean, relaxing. Lifeguards are amazing, my son got caught in a rip current while boogie boarding and was pushed into some rocks & had to be rescued :-/ I did get a parking ticket for my large suv not fitting (was over the back red line maybe 2 inches but that’s the city who are ridiculous not this park)
Stacy M — Google review
Its nice and small, across the stree from the beach. Enough parking! Coffee shop right infront of the park, the only thing I didnt like was that bugs or something kept biting me,never saw one but def felt the bites around my body,it was annoying
Jeannette A — Google review
I just discovered this place a few weeks ago and now it’s one of my favorites! The only thing is that if you want to go in the water, it’s all rocks. Not jagged rocks, but smooth rocks. The sand area is small in comparison to regular, miles long beaches. But it’s plenty big enough for those of us who just want to lay in the sun. And there’s a little cafe (?) right across the street, but they close at 2pm! And there’s parking is FANTASTIC.
Shannon B — Google review
Awesome little park. Across the street from the beach Has a bathroom and Cafe in the park as well. There is also a footpath that takes you to PCH. There are bike racks to lock bikes to and a decent sized parking lot.
Christopher H — Google review
This is a great park, we had our Wedding Reception Part 1 at the Park under the gazebo. Our wedding was on the beach and we had food and cake with those that attended the wedding. We then did a concert/reception after that at The Jumping Turtle Bar and Grill. The beach and park were perfect that day.
Aimee ( — Google review
We love Buccaneer Park!! I've been visiting this park for over 20 years. Play at the park with the kids and then go to the beach. I absolutely love love love the little Cafe that's there too! Eat, swim, play! Great place for dogs to run and your kids too! Thisnis one of my favorite places!
Vanessa F — Google review
Beutiful park with allot of climbing and on top of that is very close to the beach. Right across the street right before the cafe. Only thing I did not like was the homeless by the bridge next to the trailer park.

Luiseño Park, located in Oceanside, is a 10-acre site offering a range of amenities for visitors. The park features a contemporary play structure, jogging path, sports fields, and tennis courts. Visitors have described the park as a hidden gem with well-maintained surroundings and historical aspects dedicated to the Luiseño peoples. Families enjoy spending time at the park, with kids particularly drawn to the big boulders and trees.
Wonderful park to spend with your little one. Extremely clean, plenty of parking, even handicap ♿️, open restrooms, and lots of clean equipment.
Omar N — Google review
The high light for me were the Native American rock carvings, the baking rock, the solar guide rock. Each has a small descriptive plaque. The sidewalk was short and I missed them my first walk through. I felt it a great pleasure and honor to have been in their presence. Wanted to know more about the place. So much in a small area.
Jane T — Google review
This park is pretty good and not too bad. Went here to walk the dog after driving 24 hours. The park is very clean and well kept. There were also no homeless people in it begging, which is always a plus! Bathrooms were kinda wack, but they had them. There were big rocks and even benches... do ya belive it? Benches! Ok Bye
Nhoj S — Google review
It's a great place to to roller skate and skateboard You have to watch certain surfaces end exercise judgment. I'm sure they have a reason for why some are smooth and others are rough. Northside is pretty clear are you really got to wash yourself to further south again there's usually picnic tables and kids and playgrounds and older adults but the sidewalks are wide enough so it's easy to manage.
Larafan1970 — Google review
Great park, well kept! Nice .5 mile trail/loop.
Austin R — Google review
A great family park. Park is very clean, with baseball fields with concession stands! I am looking forward to catching a game and buying food to support the community and teams that play. It’s a great place for family gatherings and dog friendly, leashed of course
Justin V — Google review
This park was fantastic! The 1/2 mile paved sidewalk around the perimeter of the park was perfect for our daily stroller jog. There is quite the assortment of bouncers! My son played on every single one of them but had a special affinity for the two-person airplane and wanted me to sit on it with him the whole time. He also had me running up and down the large play structure to go down the swirly tube slide with him. It was actually quite fun! We also had a blast chasing lizards and jumping from rock to rock (there are so many perfect for climbing)! 📍1069 Teal Way, Oceanside, CA 92057 🚙Free parking in lot 💰This park is free 🎠The play structure has a rubber ground surface. No shaded canopies and no swings. 🚽Restrooms 🍔Charcoal grills 🧺Picnic tables 🪑Park benches at playground 🖼Lawn 🌳Shady trees 🌟Clean grounds 🛣The playground is far from busy roads but the sidewalk around the perimeter does have one small section that connects to the sidewalk along the street so just keep an eye on your kids. 🚲Paved path perfect for small bikes, scooters, roller blades, and strollers ⚾️Baseball fields 🎾Tennis courts
Rebecca F — Google review
Clean, family friendly park near Arrowood. Went to walk my dog around the paved path. There is a baseball field, clean play structure and lots of space to run with your dog on its leash. One station for doggie bags by the tennis courts.

Alamosa Park is a convenient spot located near Roosevelt Middle and Alamosa Park Elementary, making it an ideal place to take your little ones while waiting for older kids. The park features a 0.20-mile loop sidewalk around the lawn, perfect for stroller jogs with beautiful blooming Jacaranda trees along the way. It offers a fun playset suitable for children aged 2 to 5 years old and a concrete court for Zumba classes on Wednesdays.
It's a great place to have a party. They have power , clean bathrooms and plenty of space

This would be a perfect park to take your little ones to while you wait for your school-aged kids to be released from Roosevelt Middle or Alamosa Park Elementary. It’s so close that it shares a gate with the schools. I loved the 0.20 mile loop sidewalk around the perimeter of the lawn. Just a few laps make up a great stroller jog as you pass by the beautiful blooming purple Jacaranda trees. 📍At the end of Alamosa Park Drive, Oceanside, CA 92057 🚙Free parking in lot 💰This park is free 🎠There are 2 play structures built on has a rubber/mulch ground surface. No swings. 🚽Restrooms 🧺Multiple picnic tables scattered around the park 🍔Charcoal grills 🪑Park benches at playground 🖼Lawn 🌳Shady trees 🛣Far from busy roads 🏘Tucked into a quiet neighborhood 🏫Right next to Alamosa Park Elementary School & Roosevelt Middle School 🚲Paved path perfect for small bikes, scooters, roller blades, or a stroller jog ♟Built in chess boards on picnic tables under the pergola

Cool little park to stop and play. The morning time brings a lot of traffic as there is a school across the way. So there is lots of drop off or puck up traffic at select times. Other than that this place is cool. Even has spots to BBQ. Has a few benches and a nice common area

Buddy Todd Park, located in North County San Diego, is a serene 19-acre outdoor space with a rich history dating back to 1946. Named after John Buddy Todd, the park offers a peaceful retreat away from the beach scene in a quiet neighborhood. It features a children's playground, covered picnic area with grills and outlets, as well as facilities like basketball and sand volleyball courts. The park also boasts a .5-mile paved walkway offering panoramic views of the ocean and mountains.
Buddy Todd is a beautiful park, it's clean there's a spot for bbq's, a playground. Just overall a great park to visit. Parking wasn't too bad and there are plenty of places to have a picnic.
Mary B — Google review
Buddy Todd Park is an absolute gem! It’s peaceful, clean, and full of open green space with tons of shade from big, beautiful trees. I brought my cat, Phoenix, here for the first time, and he had a blast exploring and even tried to climb a few trees (his favorite thing!). The park felt safe and well-maintained, and it was a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. We’ll definitely be back—Phoenix gives it two paws up!
Cory W — Google review
Adventures at Buddy Todd Park.... This park is quite amazing to relax at...sitting atop a hill with a coastal breeze makes this a great picnic park. Large green grass area to relax. Picnic area off to the side near the basketball courts. This also features a sand volleyball area. The children play area is huge with plenty to do. The outline of the park is a walk area for those wanting to get their steps in. At a distance away is the small airport and parachutes gliding down doing acrobatic tricks whilst airborne. Enjoy
George J — Google review
The scenery was very inviting, and the seating was just right for the occasion. We all had a wonderful time together ❤️. Will have another gathering in the near future!
Tony J — Google review
Beautiful park on top of a hill with a view of Oceanside and the ocean on a clear day. Nice play area for children but also old trees and wildlife to walk through. Plenty of picnic tables and shade.
John Q — Google review
First time here and I didn’t stay too long—really just wanted a place to eat lunch. It looks like a very nice park with several picnic tables and a playground. There were bathrooms—although I didn’t try—might have been open.. sometimes park bathrooms are locked. I think there might be a walking path and depending on where you go in this park, it overlooks the city (cities). It’s high up with a wide view. I’d like to return when I have time to explore. It has a small parking lot—but was sufficient for the amount of visitors at the time I was there—Monday ~3pm
Joyful — Google review
This is a fantastic park to come to if you want to get out in nature in North County San Diego but don’t want the beach scene, and want a park that’s in a quiet neighborhood. I gave 4 stars because sometimes there can be a lot of residual trash on the ground from birthday parties, but I have seen park staff actively cleaning-up. Just know, you’re little one may find some interesting things on the ground. We’ve been here more times than I can count and the kids love to do a picnic and nature walk. This is a very large, open park with plenty of parking. I don’t have photos, but there is a large play structure, swings, and a small play train. There is also a bathroom but it can be a little gross at times, so bring hand sanitizer! This is also a great park for birthday parties because it’s so spacious. I’ve seen multiple bounce houses up at a time and no one was pressed for space. The trees make for a great place to hang piñatas as well.
B W — Google review
Large park, lots of green grass and big shade trees. Parking was difficult, but it was a Saturday, so no surprise. Plenty of space to set up pop-ups for a gathering, or to simply have a good walk.

Mance Buchanon Park is a 27-acre green space that offers something for everyone. It features a multipurpose sports field, play and picnic areas, and restrooms. The park is popular among families, sports enthusiasts, and nature lovers. Visitors can enjoy walking on the flat, even surface with a sidewalk that runs around the park. There are benches, picnic tables, and two spacious bathrooms evenly spaced along the .93-mile walking path.
It's normally a nice quiet Park. It is long and on the thin side. Plenty of parking. A bathroom at either end and one in the middle with a play area nearby. Plenty of park benches and trees for a picnic. It's a nice flat location to walk in. I do see plenty of people walking their dogs and I see people walking without dogs.

Great bike path for kids but you do sometimes have to be aware of e bikes whizzing by. Playground equipment is good and lots of grass.. typical park restrooms:/

Great park, very big with plenty of benches to sit underneath the trees. Bike trail across the street. Playground is awesome. Maintenance does a great job. It's clean and pleasant with access to public restrooms that are kept clean.

We came here to walk the dogs. Two huge grass fields with a playground in the middle of it. Very nice and relaxing. Lots of soccer practice was going on, a nice place to burn some energy. You can park at the west side of the park which is the school otherwise there is a northern parking lot running up and down the north of the park.

Park
Capistrano Park in Oceanside, CA offers a range of outdoor activities for visitors. The park features baseball fields, tennis courts, and a playground with two play structures and swings. It also has picnic tables for families to enjoy outdoor meals. While not officially designated as a dog park, the enclosed baseball field provides a great space for furry friends to run around when there are no games being played. Visitors are encouraged to clean up after their pets to maintain the park's cleanliness.
Dog parks are hard to find in this area. Even though this isn't listed as a dog park, we always take our fur baby here to get a good run in the enclosed baseball field when no games are playing. Tried going to the dog park that somehow is in Camp Pendleton, but of course, it's not open to the general public. So this is our go to place. Love this quiet park. Just make sure that if you go, clean up after your pets. It's not fun stepping on grass bombs when playing ball.
Sheryl O — Google review
A perfect park for a quick walk with the pups. Small but clean- wasn't busy on a Friday afternoon. Playground, tennis courts, baseball fields, bathrooms, picnic tables.
Jess — Google review
A beautifully maintained park with green grass, tall trees, a nice playground, and good parking. Also has restrooms. We were there during the workday and it was very quiet and peaceful.
John S — Google review
Wow! Very nice park! Other than a few branches, lawn care and bathroom details it was not as bad as some public parks. We met there today to purchase a surfboard from a local. I didn’t expect staying for a few hours but we fell in love with the mature landscapes. Fully grown palms and oak trees outstretched the fields. The baseball field was freshly racked. The jungle gym had sand, not wood chips or the compressed plastic. There were signs with specific instruction on how everyone can care for the park by working together. The vibe was good, the people that were there were not as friendly. I said hi to a lady and her dog and she didn’t hear me. The wind was blowing and it was a cool 62degrees. My son hit the jungle gym as I swung on the swings. My daughter walked the park in search of Pokémon and so did I because it had its own Pokéstop. Overall good place to chill ax.
M. M — Google review
This park is so nice and always breezy!! I hate that so many people use the baseball field for their dogs and don't clean up dog poop. It's all pile din a pile in bags and also all over the field! This is why privileges get lost and we can't have nice things because people abuse and aren't respectful!
Jessica E — Google review
Very nice park. Has wonderful play structures, sand, a basketball court and a baseball field. Also has restrooms. The park has a lot of trees around the play structure areas for wonderful shady areas, perfect for picnics. I recommend this park. We will be returning

Capistrano Park was the second park in Oceanside we have been to that had this cute “Play Express” train. My son also loved driving the fire truck. We were the only ones on the playground all morning but that might have been because it was overcast and a little misty. There was a fair share of kids on the baseball fields though. 📍770 Capistrano Dr, Oceanside, CA 92058 🚙Free parking in the lot 💰This park is free 🎠2 play structures with standard & bucket swings. Libby Lake Park, a recreational area with a lake, playground, skatepark, and picnic facilities, has undergone significant improvements over the years. Previously plagued by gang activity and deemed unsafe even during the day, it is now much safer although caution is still advised at nightfall. The playground and picnic area have been upgraded to better serve visitors who can also spot dog owners on their leisurely walks.
Such a beautiful and tranquil setting! The playground is nice and quiet for the kids and the lake is beautiful for a lovely summer walk! Love this place and was lucky to stumble upon it while passing through Oceanside!
JMS S — Google review
Park has become better over the years. I grew up in the neighborhood next to here and Libby Elementary (almost 40 years). It used to be way more dangerous with the gangs. Even during the day, I could be weary about going through. Nowadays, I recommend avoiding going at night, even just before sunset. The playground and picnic area have been improved over the years. I'll also see people walking their dogs.
Christopher H — Google review
Do your kids like nature? If they do, this is the perfect place for them! Not only are the play structures fun to run around on, but there’s a 1/2 mile paved path around the lake where you’ll find all sorts of animal life. We saw turtles, ducks, and cranes and even watched a crane catch a fish and swallow it whole! I really want to give this park a higher rating, but the bathrooms really need improvements in order for me to add another star! 📍504 Calle Montecito, Oceanside, CA 92057 🚙Free street parking 💰This park is free 🎠The 2 play structures are built on a mulch ground surface and has both standard and bucket swings. Awesome park with a playground, kiosks to grill and a lake to fish 🎣, not sure if there are any fish in the lake that’s why I give 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️. When I catch a fish I’ll update my review.

This park is a little oasis. A paved path around a small pond with ducks, birds and turtles! There's a playground and covered picnic area, and free street parking. BUT the bathroom leaves a lot to be desired (see pics)- no door on the bathroom stall and the outside door is a steel grate that was chained open. Absolutely no privacy or safety.

The City of Oceanside used to take great care of this park. The lake used to have three fountains. It now has none and the PH level in the water must be incredibly toxic. The broken fence has been that way for close to 5 years. What a shame.

Tyson Street Park is a popular spot in Oceanside, located near the iconic Oceanside Pier. It offers stunning views of the city and the ocean, making it a picturesque destination for visitors. Families are drawn to this area due to its small waves and amenities such as playgrounds and grassy picnic areas. The park also features easy access from Pacific Street, making it convenient for families with kids.
Cool little park to play with the kids and dogs. Also a nice little spot to set up spot to BBQ as you enjoy the view.

This park is actually at the beach. The park itself is very small. It does have a big grassy area where you can sit or lay out if sand and rocks are not your thing. There are too many rocks at the first break of the waves. They can cut the bottom of your feet or the wave can knock you over because you are walking unbalanced trying to avoid these horrible rocks! Once you past these rocks, it's really nice swimming in the bigger waves but if it's a day of a strong rip current you have to keep going over these rocks, to move back out of surfing area to swimming area and one fall on those rocks can do some significant injuries. Anyways, going to a beach with no rocks makes your day more enjoyable. One thing I did notice is security and oceanside police patrol the Pier and surrounding beaches but that might be because there are homeless hanging by the showers and restrooms! So 3 stars is probably to good of a rating!

Heritage Park is a park in downtown Oceanside that showcases several early 1900s buildings and a gazebo for events. While the buildings were closed during the visit, visitors could still walk around and observe the old timey structures and artifacts. Inside one of the opened doors, there were two individuals working on replica trains and discussing the communities that relied on them. The park offers parking both inside and in a small external lot, although street parking is limited or absent.
A beautiful park for a wedding. The gazebo was a magical place for a first dance. John John was very helpful and an excellent spokesperson for the property. Natalie was a great bonus! 😉

Dropped by on a Saturday, not expecting much and not expecting to spend a lot of time here. I was wrong! We walked in and looked around at the beautiful park and buildings then we entered the model train rooms. I was blown away by all the trains and incredibly detailed track. Rick, a member of the model train club, showed us around and helped us complete the scavenger hunt within the track. I truly had so much fun and we ended up staying for about 2 hours looking at everything!

Today, Dec-16-22 most of it was closed. Well actually all of it was closed however, the curator of the hobby train museum saw us crying on the bench and asked if we wanted to check out the museum which is normally open only Saturday. Ok, no crying and no bench but we did get to see the extensive train displays covering 2 rooms. Check the photos. Saved the day he did. Thanks Terry.

My kids enjoyed our field trip here! This is the second time we've gone, and they accept donations which makes this a relatively inexpensive field trip, which is nice. The couple who runs the field trips is kind, although the woman seemed rather forgetful and would sometimes repeat stuff. Parts of it were really boring for kids, and I feel like they could give less information with more interactive games or conversations. But the time in the train area was wonderful and the kids loved being able to do the trains themselves. They were so patient to make sure each child got a turn. They did this early into the field trip, which was good, as last time the kids didn't care by the time they got to the trains, when the order was reversed. The kids also liked playing musical chairs and loved being given ice cream! Clean, beautiful, wonderful look into history and so close to the mission, to also check out. Overall, for what we paid, it was much more than worth it. Are very thankful.

The buildings at Heritage Park were closed when we visited. We didn't read all of the information. But we were able to walk around and look. If you are into California history, you will like the park. There are old timey buildings and artifacts. As we walked, we happened upon a opened door. There were two guys inside working on replicas of trains, and the communities that depended on them. There were mountains, tunnels, towns and industrial structures. The guys talked with us a while. One guy was all business and the other one had some jokes. There is parking inside and a small lot outside. There isn't street parking, at least , none that we could see. It is free to visit.

Special little step back into history in the center of the city. Old schoolhouse, and country style gazebo. The highlight is the mini railroad museums where you can become the conductor or take in all the details of the intricate scenes that have been carefully crafted. Great for kids and adults. Hosp Grove Park, located in North Carlsbad near Buena Vista Lagoon, offers a network of moderately difficult trails suitable for hikers of all levels. The park features a three-mile hike through a scenic eucalyptus grove with elevations reaching over 100 feet and stunning ocean vistas. Visitors can enjoy picnics under the shade of eucalyptus trees and explore the children's play area while taking in the natural beauty that surrounds them.
Really nice place, but there is a spot where it's really dangerous, so just be careful if you find it. It's the big orange parts with ran down areas. Once you climb up there it's a big and steep cliff, there's fences to houses up there so that's how you know where it is. It's beautiful, but risky so that's my only concern, other then that, it's an amazing place to hike with your family and friends.

Love to take the dogs for a hike here. Nice well maintained trails, clean. I recommend taking a picture of the map that's at the parking lot so you don't end up going in circles. If you go really early you might bump into some homeless people. I didn't have any issues with them very friendly. There is no restroom at these trails but there is at the trail across the street.

Excellent place for a quick easy hike. I actually know people that live in the neighborhood. I take my mom here all the time. Very clean. Very well kept up. This place is well taken care of. I really like this place. The trees and views are absolutely magnificent. The people that frequent this place are super chill too. I used to go here like every week. I definitely recommend this place to both novice and intermediate hikers. There's even a park attached with a playground for small children. Huge plus for parents and families. You'll have a great time, I guarantee it!

Great place to enjoy a hike or a family picnic on a nice beautiful day. Hosp is surrounded by Eucalyptus trees with rich history dating back to the early 1900 I pulled the filling information from the internet. Dog friendly as well. History: 1908: The Hosp Eucalyptus Corp, an investment group, planted 219 acres of eucalyptus trees with the intention of harvesting them and selling the wood for railroad ties to the Santa Fe Railroad. Late 20th Century: The eucalyptus wood was found to be unsuitable for railroad ties because it was brittle and cracked easily. 1986: The City of Carlsbad purchased the remaining 53 acres and established the area as a public park.

This is such an amazing gem nested in our city! My boys LOVE coming here for adventures. It's a perfect blend of nature with civilization! If you have little ones, there is a traditional playground with safety padding on the ground. For the older ones, there are multiple tree swings hidden through the park, a tree see-saw, logs big enough to balance on trails for hiking and biking. Note: The trails are rugged so no strollers or wheelchair access. Picnic tables and benches are available as well as the cleanest portable bathroom I've ever seen! It's definitely a place to visit!

Oak Riparian Park is a picturesque green space located in Carlsbad, CA. It offers a playground, grassy fields, and picnic areas for visitors to enjoy. The park serves as an access point to the Calavera Trail System, providing over 6 miles of scenic routes for hiking and biking enthusiasts. With its diverse trees, plants, streams, and ponds, the park is an ideal spot for nature lovers and bird-watchers.
Nice play place, simple but enough to run it out. The trail is great! Woods with a little creek then marshy wetlands then before you know it you're on the volcano trail at Lake Calavera! I love the different parts of this trail in such a short walk. Of course if you go to the peak it's too long for the little ones, 5 miles I think, but the walk through the woods and wetlands and then around the corner to see the volcano is perfect for the little ones. This trail would be jogging stroller friendly but a carrier would probably be easier since you have to cross the creek on a board.

Please fix it ASAP. This is the younger play area. My daughter touched this rust while climbing up. It's unavoidable and dangerous. It's failing apart from the rust. Soon, that big part will be a hole. Everyone post this stuff.

Excellent, dog friendly, kid friendly park connected to a series of hiking trials. Very clean, lots of grass, picnic tables, and a well-maintained restroom. Parking can be tough, so sometimes you may have to park in the neighboring neighborhood.
Adam L — Google review
Anytime you can get out, into nature, with free parking available, as well as pretty scenery, I'm 100% down with that. Oak Riparian Park is another entry point, onto the walking trails which criss-cross the land, surrounding Lake Calavera, in Carlsbad, CA. Parking here on a sunny day, can prove challenging, as this place is popular, plus the parking lot is not super big. My partner & I got lucky & nabbed the last available parking spot, on 1/1/24. Folks who park here, utilize both the green grassy park & playground area, as well as the walking trails, which begin from the south edge of this park. There are public restrooms here, on the uphill edge of this park. After crossing a narrow wooden plank bridge, above tranquil flowing creekwater, you'll then head uphill, a short distance, before approaching one of many raised synthetic wooden footbridges. These aid mightily in getting across land flooded in spots, due to creek fingers, which meander out from Lake Calavera. The beginning of this trail is pretty, with views of a lovely oak riparian area. Small birds, including Song Sparrows & Yellow-Rumped Warblers, spastically flit away from you, as you walk along the trail. Follow the wooden signs, which will guide you to several trails here. There's approximately 5 miles of trails in all. As we walked over one of the last footbridges in the lowland area, we followed the trail uphill, across a vast sloping grassland, with a large, brush-covered mountain rising up, in the distance. There weren't a lot of animals visible to us, near noon, during our January hike here. That said, this is a good bird habitat, so we came across several species of my feathered friends, on the trails here. California Scrub Jays were plentiful on this day, flying from tree to tree, & resting atop the power lines, which stand out so visibly in this nature area. We noticed several Western Kingbirds, hunting bugs from the tree tops, as well as a few extremely shy Spotted Towhees. Skittering along the dirt, & into some nearby bushes, were a pair of rust-colored, California Towhees. As I rounded a bush, I startled a speedy Cottontail rabbit into blurred motion. Most of the trails here aren't too menacing, with the exception of the Peak/Lake Trail, which forks uphill, toward the mountain, overlooking Lake Calavera. This trail was too much for me, with a steep, rain-rutted & treacherous trail, I refused to attempt. The Creek Crossing Trail is more tame, & crosses one more L-Shaped footbridge, above a large creek finger, before heading to the Tamarack Rd. side of Calavera Lake.

Love this park. Great playground for kids. But if you want to hike, lovely trails from easy to very hard. The view from up top is totally worth it! Beautiful plant life and flowers. Bathrooms on site.

This is a great hike and fun place to mountain bike. It's funny cause most people know this spot as Calaveras. It is an old volcano that hasn't erupted in quite some time. There are signs of you get lost and plenty of people and houses nearby for point of reference. I would recommend a decent hydration system if you plan on hiking two hours or more. It can get pretty hot. There are not allot of technical features but plenty of elevation to be had. Lots of ups and downs will get those legs burning. There is also a nice flat area just north of the volcano that leads back to the main parking area. Hiking shoes are optimal as there is lots of loose dirt and granite. Tennis shoes can be worn, just make sure they have good grip.

I’ve come here several times for my children’s soccer practice. The field itself is nice. However today when we parked the car there were two used condoms in the floor next to the car. Absolutely disgusting. Especially being a children’s park there are many young kids that like to pick things up off the floor. This is not just gross but a biohazard and grounds should be maintenances more and or security coming to the ground to prevent this type of activity from happening.

This park has been a go-to for our son’s Little League rookie season and the fields are well-kept and there’s always something going on, from soccer to roller hockey to skateboarding. It’s a true community hub. The new play structure is a big hit with the kids, and the skate park is always full of energy. That said, weekend parking can be rough, especially when soccer ramps up ,we’ve had to park by the school more than once. Bathrooms could definitely use more attention (hovering is your best bet), but overall, it’s a solid place for sports, play, and a few hours outside.

The updated playground is like Dr Seuss’ fun house: ladders with no rail, rope bridge 10 feet up, and my kids get catapulted off the slides. If you’re looking for a park that’s got it all, look no further! Martin Luther King Jr. Park has sports, bike paths, skate park jumps, swings, trails…the list goes on. The first time we came was a late Saturday morning and it was absolutely packed with families there for baseball, soccer, hockey, skating, on top of just your regular park-attendees like us. However, I brought my son here the following Monday morning and we were almost the only ones on the premises. I do have to say it seemed a little grungy because of the amount of trash people tracked in on the weekend. I would have given this park 5 stars if it were cleaner. During a quieter time, the park is full of critters. My son chased after bunnies and squirrels in the baseball fields and when I made a phone call, the person on the other end asked if I was in a rainforest because they could hear all the bird sounds. 📍4300 Mesa Dr, Oceanside, CA 92057 🚙Free parking in lot which is shaded with solar panels 💰This park is free 🎠There are 2 play structures with both standard and bucket swings built on a rubber ground surface 🚜Bring your diggers, tractors, and beach toys for the big sand box 🚽Restrooms 🧺Multiple picnic tables under pavilion 🍔Charcoal grills 🪑Park benches at playground 🖼Lawn 🛣Playground is a good distance away from busy roads 🥾Dirt hiking trails behind the park that lead to a small unnamed neighborhood park off Lupine Way 🚲Dirt bike track with jumps behind the baseball fields 🛼Paved path perfect for small bikes, scooters, roller blades, or a stroller jog 🛹Skate park ⚾️Baseball fields ⚽️Soccer fields 🏒Hockey arena

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THE NEW PLAYGROUND IS A DEATHTRAP. The rest of the park is gorgeous, truly. I feel bad giving a 1 star review, but something needs to grab their attention. The playground was recently redone and it's absolutely, horrendously unsafe. It was completely fine before. Anyone we meet there is equally astounded. I wouldn't want a 12-14 year old climbing the ladders, let alone a 3-5 year old. You can't get to the slide without traversing an obstacle course. One of the ladders has to be 15+' tall - a fall would be an immediate broken bone, or worse. And there are now less swings than before, so there's always a wait for them. I am at a total loss of words on who thought this park was a good idea.

This was our favorite park to go to until they tore out the little kid friendly playground and replaced it with a death trap. Seriously unsafe, you can’t even follow your kids up the 15ft treehouse cause it’s so steep and shakes just from pushing on it at the base.

Talk about your ultimate double decker playground! There were so many bridges leading to different slides on the larger playground and it was so fun to explore them with my son. Usually he gets a little bored of the park when there aren’t any swings but he kept begging to stay here longer. He made a few very nice friends who were willing to share toys and play with him and a few laps on the sidewalk around the park was perfect for our daily stroller run! I also loved the mature trees which cast a lot of shade on the grass. I do wish it was in a better neighborhood and that the play equipment was dusted off and cleaned more often. It wasn’t gross. Just very cobwebby. I also wish there was a better bathroom situation. 📍 Fireside Drive & Parkside Street, Oceanside, CA 92057 🚙Free parking in lot/on street 💰This park is free 🎠There are 2 play structures both on mulch ground surface. I've lived by park since b4 it was here im a 60 yr young O.G.&the far left corner by gate (as well as right side where gate was ripped off years ago) should be avoided bcuz of homeless activities from many encampments behind fence by the SLR River bed that do end up leaving toilet paper, needles&foil that could have very harmful residue that could hurt kids, pets, adults so please don't pick up. Sad to see the decline from those that don't give a rats butt about much of anything. They do need resources they would be forced into to help them try to kick the habits to protect all parties concerned. IMHO. I still love Oceanside but do end up walking at AAAALLLLL other parks 5 times as often bcuz of the Brother Benno overflow we have down here in the Valley. Playground is awesome! Swings seem to be needed. The dozen tiny hills/mounds are GREAT to walk up&down for balance issues. Tooootally dog friendly!!! And yes real bathrooms would be nice but no room for&it would encourage more nastiness I do suspect&probably why they don't add. Great areas for picnics with a few tables for outdoor family gatherings. And the shade trees do make it a really grrrreat place to cool off on warmer days with soooo much shade. Basketball court was refinished in Fall of 2024 plus over a dozen new trees planted&new trash&recycling cans as well. Nice to see our little neighborhood park getting some well deserved live since it is used by thousands of people yearly&hundreds per day. ❤️😃🐶🐕🐕‍🦺🦮🐩🐾🐾😁

Lake Park offers a delightful playground experience with impressive climbing structures that resemble towering mountains and intricate spider webs, creating a paradise for little adventurers. The park is larger than it appears, featuring several ball fields and walking paths that meander around the fields. It is conveniently connected to an elementary school, making it a great spot to pause during a bike tour of the area. Visitors can also enjoy clean facilities, including bathrooms and picnic areas with giant awnings for shelter in case of rain.
I’ve been at this park every Friday for the past year hosting a sport there and it has been very efficient. The bathrooms are clean and the fields are good size to run the sports that we do. The COED Kickball and Women’s league that the Echo Athletics holds there is pretty good too! ;)

It’s a nice, large park, with multiple fields (we go for kids soccer). The grass is green, kids love the playground, and my dog likes walks on the paved sidewalks around the field. Weekday afternoon parking is tough & it was difficult to find the 1st time. There’s a lot of random pieces of glass, especially in the dirty picnic table area by play ground. Otherwise it’s a very pretty area with large grass areas for sports.

Went to the park with my little dog to eat lunch and stroll around. Had never been there so went to the Senior Center expecting at least a bench or two if no tables. There was nothing! No Place to sit for a bite of lunch and only the parking lot to stroll around on. We ate and left. Won’t be back.

Nice stadium 🏟 long walk to the bathrooms tho. No real gourmet food just bar food. The bartender didn't know what she was doing. She put grand marnier in a kamikaze. Too tomato juice in the michelada. AND 3 drink 2 of which were shots was 68$ plus tip

Nestled in the charming Rancho Del Oro neighborhood of Oceanside, Rancho del Oro Park is a delightful haven for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike. This expansive park features vast grassy fields ideal for various sports like soccer, football, and baseball. While it may not boast extensive playground equipment, its open spaces are perfect for kids to run freely or for dogs to frolic during quieter hours. The park also includes five lighted tennis courts where lessons are available, making it a great spot for tennis lovers.
I love this hidden Little gym it's got a lot of grass for the kids to run around and got some tennis courts and it's really hilly the ice cream man is always there after school and my kids love going to this park the bookmobile also stopped by there and hangs out a while and lets kids pick out books it's a neat little Park

This park is great! There aren't a ton of amenities like a playground, but there are lots of expansive grassy fields for you, your kids, and your dogs to frolic upon. There are also tennis courts, with lessons available, a few tables and bbq stands, and public bathrooms. The YMCA is right here too, for members.
Justin S — Google review
It's a sports park for football/soccer with some picnic tables bbq grills, restrooms and open grass areas. Lots of people bring their dogs in the off hours to play in the grass fields which make it five stars in my book.

Decent park. There is a YMCA in the vicinity. They also someone's have "concerts in the park" over the summer. People will also walk their dogs. There are tennis courts as well.
Christopher H — Google review
My daughters baton team wanted to use the tennis court for baton practice because unfortunately they don't have places just for baton so the girls need to use tennis courts and basketball courts to improve for chances for scholarships later as they enter collage but unfortunately the man in the red shirt was rude to my daughters team and the coach telling them that the tennis courts are for tennis only. I really don't see the difference between the team using the tennis court and someone plays tennis. Some people are so stingy and wired will not be coming back. Any adult that bullies kids and tries to crush little girls dreams in my opinion should be punched in the face so they will know they are not a high and mighty god.

Marshall Park is a quiet and low-key neighborhood park with ample parking, making it convenient for visitors. The play area features sand and various fun apparatus like a seesaw and rotating 'cups.' It's also a great spot for dog owners, offering wide open spaces for pets to roam. The park includes a well-maintained pool with clean restrooms and affordable ice cream snacks.
I love this park! I take my 2 pups here and run them ragid so that they don't fly all over my house since they have high energy It seems like most folks that bring their pooches here have them on a leash Most of the time its not needed because there's nobody else there when we are

Bring your sand toys to this park because the playground is in a huge sandbox. My son loved playing on the teeter totter because you don’t see one at every playground. He sat on one end for almost 10 minutes and when I told him we should go down the slides, he got off and just hopped onto the other end of the teeter totter😆 📍1400 Marshall St, Oceanside, CA 92054 🚙Free parking in lot 💰This park is free 🎠The play structures are on sand ground surface. There are both standard and bucket swings at this park 🚽Restrooms 🧺Picnic tables on the grass 🖼The lawn is on a hill 🌳Some shady trees over picnic tables 🛣Far from busy roads 🏘Tucked into a neighborhood 🚂Views of the train at the bottom of the hill

My daughter loves this park, but I'm not a fan of the sand. It feels really dirty. And like it's never been changed. The playground is older and could really use some updates, but overall, it's a good park to entertain your kids for a couple of hours. Just be prepared that it can get chilly in the late afternoon hours. Also, be mindful dog owners like to take their dogs of leash here and sometimes they wander into the kids playground area.

Marshall Park is a small neighborhood park tucked behind a mobile home community in Oceanside. There’s a basic play structure for kids and a small open area for dogs to run around. It’s clean and usually pretty quiet, but the space is limited, so it’s not great for bigger gatherings or long visits. Still, it’s a decent local spot if you live nearby and just want a quick outing with your dog or kids.
Lydia C — Google review
Great little dog-friendly neighborhood park! Big wide open spaces for happy dogs to roam and playground and public pool area for happy kiddos! Only reason not 5 stars is because not all dog owners pick up the poop. But, guess that happens everywhere.
Crysta M — Google review
This playground has two small climbers which were not that interesting for my 2yr old, small rope pyramid (Mance has a larger one), and zipline like feature that jammed, sand and tons of seed pods etc in that sand. Doesn’t help that the local community seems to treat this as an offleash park. The teeter totter was her favorite. We spent 45 minutes before running out of things to do.
Dan P — Google review
Quiet, low key neighborhood park with a pool that got only one family coming to use it while we were at the adjacent park. The play area has sand as opposed to a rubberized surface at newer parks but also had some fun play apparatus like a seesaw and rotating "cups"which an adult can fit in and get dizzy and which is hard to stop spinning!

While it lacks amenities, the park's scenic views and pet-friendly atmosphere make it an enjoyable place to visit.
Perfect place to take your dog especially since it's not a sought after park and is pretty much a giant grass area so dogs love it

the park was small but cute and extremely dog friendly. the people there were weird. someone crashed their big remote control car into me and they didn’t even apologize. the other people that were there were talking badly about me right next to me, saying my maltipoo shouldn’t be at a dog park. not sure if it’s just how the people in this area act? but i wasn’t a fan of the unfriendly dynamic lol

Additionally, it is situated close to the beautiful Oceanside beach and pier, making it an ideal spot for families to enjoy the stunning sunsets and serene winter evenings.
Visiting from northern MN. We really enjoyed a playground right on the beach, it was perfect for our 4 and 7 year old. Parking is very accessible, restrooms are nearby and the area was well maintained. Bonus, there’s a great coffee shop nearby too.

Thai is such an amazing place for kids. We drove down from LA for this and it was definitely worth it. The carpark is so conveniently located, just across the playground. The playground itself has structures for multiple ages and it’s right on the beach which means multiple ways to entertain the kids. When we were there there was also a music and bubble show (some guy just blowing bubbles for the kids) and the kids loved jumping to catch the bubbles. All in all, a great place to spend an afternoon.

Nature & Parks
Waterfront Park, located in downtown San Diego, is a popular destination for families, especially during the warm summer months. This 12-acre park offers a variety of attractions including a large children's play area with engaging structures and a sprawling interactive fountain with numerous jets to keep little ones entertained. The park's proximity to the bay makes it an ideal spot for outdoor fun and relaxation.
Great Park that’s a lot of fun for the kids. Waterfront is beautiful across the street. just keep an eye out for the homeless, which of course is a constant in San Diego. They did have a mall cop type keeping an eye out which helps but later in the day some homeless are already setting up to sleep. They seem mostly harmless but something to be aware of.
Ted C — Google review
The San Diego Waterfront is pure magic, especially at sunset. The sky lights up in colors that seem almost unreal, reflecting off the water as ships drift by. Come evening, the twinkling lights of the ships and the city create a serene, almost cinematic scene. Whether you’re strolling along the promenade or just sitting back and watching the view, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the beauty of the harbor. A must-visit for anyone in San Diego!
Sid — Google review
Great park with a great view; the basketball court has a view of the city and the water. Very fun jump roping here for 2 and half hours and shooting hoops; pickle ball, walk your dog, bring your kids to play in the water. Little bit of this little bit of that. Great spot.
Alberdough — Google review
Waterfront Park is an absolute gem tucked between the city and the sea. Five stars, easy. You’ve got basketball courts for hoop dreams, pickleball courts for paddle battles, and a surprisingly solid dog park where your pup can go full zoomie. It’s also a killer outdoor concert venue—catching a sunset show here with the city skyline behind you? Chef’s kiss. Add in the proximity to Little Italy and the restaurants along the pier, and this spot basically plans your weekend for you. Whether you’re walking your dog, people-watching, or just soaking in the sun with a coffee, the wide-open green spaces give you room to breathe and move. It’s one of those rare places where city energy meets coastal chill, and somehow it all just works.
Timmy C — Google review
I visit Waterfront Park almost every week, and it’s easily one of my favorite spots in San Diego. The recent remodel really elevated the whole experience, the park feels cleaner, more open, and well-maintained. It’s perfect for families, especially with the playground and splash pad area for kids. My little ones can spend hours there, and it’s always buzzing with energy but never feels overcrowded. During the summer, we love the Movies in the Park nights. They are such a fun, free activity that really brings the community together. Whether we’re stopping by for a quick walk, a picnic, or to let the kids burn off some energy, Waterfront Park never disappoints. It’s become part of our weekly routine, and it’s been amazing to see how much it has improved with the remodel. If you’re looking for a beautiful spot to relax or a safe, fun place for your kids, this park is a gem.

The John Landes Skatepark, which opened its doors in 2003, is a hidden gem nestled within a charming neighborhood park. This inviting space features a concrete skate area complemented by various metal ramps, making it an appealing spot for skaters of all levels. Beyond skating, the park offers ample amenities including well-maintained tennis and basketball courts, two fenced baseball fields that often host little league games, and two playgrounds perfect for families with young children.
I live on Annette Street east of John Landes Park since I was 4 1/2. I went too Casita, then Washington Middle School then Vista High for a year then newly opened up Rancho Buena Vista Highschool for 2 years and graduated early. I’ve moved across the country from ocean to ocean. Richmond, Va then Farmerville, LA then Liberal, KS then Tucson, AZ and worked as Executive Assistant to the first Elected female Mayor of Flagstaff, AZ first female Sarah Presler. Then moved back here. Rebuilt this house big time. I still go to JohnLandes Park. The Park, Casita and 7-11 are still here. Used to be forest south of the park and off of Emerald. All houses now and apartments. The old 78 went in front of the Stagecoach off of Vista Avenue. We still go to the Stagecoach.

My sons love this place. Needs more benches, but a fun place. Has a good vibe. Crusty neighbors/spectators add to the fun too, but that's the Oceanside flavor, love it of leave it :) No lights, skating is done when the sun goes down. Concrete isn't slippery like Vista either.

Love this park especially during the week it's perfect for taking little ones to to play without huge lots of people always around and it makes a circle good for taking your dogs or animals. Just be careful because it's right on a sort of busy street (Brooks St). You can practice sports and it's part of the recreation center! There will be homeless people most of the time but they are just keeping to themselves and I've never had any problems when I have taken my son there in the past. Just left with my dog and she loves it!
Kels ( — Google review
Honestly I use to like the dog park, it had a doggy water fountain, the wood chips are changed frequently, but the last few times I've gone I spent most of the time on the edge of the park. My dog was not able to interact much with others because people keep bringing unfixed male dogs and its caused A LOT of dog fights. It's not the unfixed dogs fault it's just the other dogs get aggressive. After the last few times visiting the park and this constantly happening we've decide to not return for our safety.
Eryn R — Google review
Fantastic park for small to big kids. We go here almost daily as our go-to park. The 4 swings are for sure a highlight. 2 are toddler swings, one is a race car chair and the other a teeter totter type swing built for two at the same time. The huge field was flattened and resodded about 2 months ago and is often used for soccer and football training. The tennis courts are decent since the nets are made of metal and never sag. There are also basketball hoops and a place for handball or racquetball.

Currently under construction/renovation. Park area is quaint, and a decent size for a small community park. Major downgrade due to drug dealer in the bathroom that tried to deal to me when I was there with my kid. He left shortly after when I gave him look of disgust and a firm no.

Very cool wide open space and fairly private based on location. Has a cool 2-5 year old play area with short benches for them, and a few shady spots sprinkled around.

Great large Grass area to take your small dog and even large dogs on one side. Groups of dogs will congregate in the afternoons to play —large dogs on the west side and small on the east. This is one of our favorites!
Miss K — Google review
While the Palisades Park is dog friendly, it is clearly and boldly posed as a 'NOT A DOG PARK. DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON LEASH". Many dog owners ignore this posting and bring their dogs to run free, sometimes at 6 in the morning, which disturbs the local peace when owners then yell at their dogs to run back. Not a fan of these disrespectful dog owners and park attendees. Great park for kids, families, outdoor games/sports but keep your dogs on leashes please!!

We love this park! It's a great place to take your little dog or your kids, plenty of room to run! . Several small dogs will congregate in the afternoons for playtime on the east side which is great. Some larger dogs on the west side. Keep your eye out for the less trained runaway dogs tho.
Miss K — Google review
I like this park because it's near my son's school and it's well maintained and clean. It's big enough for my boys to get some energy out, do a few laps for me, and let the baby explore a little. The play structure is way in the corner and mainly geared towards very young kids. There are no restrooms which is a bummer as they host kids soccer and there are always LOADS of parents waiting around for school pickup with little ones in tow. It's recently become a dog hangout which is not what it's intended for but still clean. They could add a bit more to make it more appealing but all in all a nice park.
