The Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site is a preserved goat farm and farmhouse where the renowned poet lived until his passing. The site offers a glimpse into history with well-preserved artifacts and an uphill walk to the home and farm, providing a shady and enjoyable experience. Visitors can explore the upper level of the home, but it requires climbing stairs. The tour is described as delightful, offering warmth and positivity from personnel including shuttle bus drivers and tour guides.
While we didn't take a tour of the inside of the house, we did get to pet some baby goats, which our girls couldn't stop talking about. The babies were so cute, and I was impressed with the number of staff and volunteers on hand to take care of the place. Although they've had a fair amount of damage from Helene, this site is bouncing back. Check it out!

I stopped by the house on July 3rd as part of my quest to visit all 100 counties. I was not expecting it to be quite so busy so early! I arrived even before the visitor's center was open. I had researched before and knew there would be detours and limited sites at the actual house, but I wasn't expecting the hiker's lot to be full. That meant parking in the main lot which involves a steeper hike. The hike, however, was still moderate, even in warm weather and once you are up the hill there are several other trails, outbuildings, the house itself (gift shop and exterior), a junior ranger stop where a short film plays, and the goats of course. You can actually pet the goats but I recommend bringing your own biodegradable wipes and/or water for drinking and cleaning as those amenities are still limited. I did see the shuttles around, but I didn't try to use them. I enjoyed my visit but should have climbed with my hiking pack and water.

Call Sandburg is an important historical figure. The 4 huge volumes he wrote on President Lincoln alone qualify, add books of the common man's poetry. Then the goat barn, there are plenty, with new babies born each spring. Lovely trails of all abilities on 245 acres in the Blue Ridge mountain range. The home is a National Historic site and is a wonderful stop on your travels. Free tours of the house are on the top of the hour and probably last 20 minutes.
Dot M — Google review
I enjoy visiting the goats that were raised by Carl Sandburg's wife and daughter. You can hike the trails, pet the goats, and brush them, making it a great experience for both children and adults. Dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash, but they are not allowed in the barnyard with the goats. The only admission fee applies to the house, so be sure to check the times, days, and cost for the guided tour of the home.
Carol M — Google review
All the things you didn't know that you didn't know about Carl Sandberg. Our guide for the tour of the house, Diane, was so informative, and made the presentation fun and interesting. We learned so much and really enjoyed ourselves. Just a precaution: the park still has damage from Hurricane Helene, so you can't get through some parts of the trails. Don't let that stop you from going. The house and grounds are all ready for visitors.
Rosemary S — Google review
Was in the area and looking for something to do happened upon Carl sandburg's home figured I'd see what it was about you've got two options to get to the house either take the shuttle or walk we chose to walk and it was very pleasant the unfortunate thing is it's a little longer walk because the bridge is out but they have a detour walking route we got a tour of the house from a wonderful tour guide she was very informative and insightful definitely learned a lot of things about Carl Sandburg that we did not know about the house tour takes about 30 minutes afterwards you can go to the goat Barn area and pet some goats it was a wonderful day trip activity
Lewis K — Google review
Interesting place but the main walking trail to the house from the parking area has been washed out. Alternate trail is longer, uphill and rough. Save the walk and wait for a shuttle van.
David M — Google review
Intesterting stop. There is a short walk down to where you can see the home on the mountain. There is damage form the Hurricane last year that has the bridge destroyed to get to the house, but they have a detour for those who desire to go to the house to walk. It's alway great to learn about any National Historic Site!

Theaters
Flat Rock Playhouse, located in the beautiful Western Carolina region, is the official State Theatre of North Carolina. It originated from a group of struggling actors known as Vagabond Players and has since grown into a prominent playhouse staging revivals, original productions, concerts, popular musicals, comedies, and dramas. The playhouse offers a nine-month season of plays and provides a stringent attendance policy to ensure the safety of its visitors.
Beautiful little theater in the middle of nowhere! The play was funny and the actors did a great job! Seating was comfortable. Staff were kind to the group I was traveling with! A very unique place! I hope to get to come back here again someday. Well worth traveling to this little theater in Flat Rock NC.

Our first visit to Flatrock playhouse. We are seniors & disabled. The traffic was very heavy so we ran late. We were greeted by an usher that barked 2 min. to curtain. The auditorium was black as the play began with a dark film. Rather than wait she walked us to our row, but we could not see the seats. Fortunately near the isle. Others entered late as well - but after there was lights to see. Honestly, the rude welcome eft me quite upset. The play is outstanding - actors & set. All that to say, we all have unavoidable delays. We live 2 hr away. Will the management please instruct ushers to be sensitive to special needs. Such a fine job by all others. We were never given a play bill. The woman seating us needs to avoid working with the public. ... shameful. We'd been told by friends to come - but I doubt we can recommend this theater. Sad.
Joleen C — Google review
In all my visits to the Flat Rock Playhouse, I never knew there was a garden. I had seen the flowers around the house before, but if you keep going, there is a large area to walk around to get away from it all. There are some sculptures among the plants and flowers. I liked the goats. Make sure to check it out before a show. I am more amazed each time I come how well thought out the Flat Rock Playhouse is to getting everyone situated with parking, to making sure everyone gets to the correct seat. There isn't much space for parking, so they pack the cars in tight. This is a problem if you need or want to leave early, as you are stuck. But they make do with the space they have. The quality of the shows is outstanding as they get fantastic actors and have great costumes, sets, and music. This year I saw the Michael Jackson show, Beautiful, and Murder on the Orient Express. I'd have season tickets if I lived closer. I am wondering what shows will be playing for the next season.

I recently took my daughter to see The Play That Goes Wrong at Flat Rock Playhouse, and we were absolutely blown away! It was her very first live theater experience, and I couldn’t have chosen a better venue to introduce her to the magic of the stage. As someone who’s seen many Broadway productions, I was genuinely impressed by the caliber of talent on display. The cast was hilarious, the comedic timing impeccable, and the energy in the room was contagious. The set design and production quality were professional, detailed and incredibly well-executed. The venue itself is cozy and charming, which makes the experience feel all the more intimate and special. There’s not a bad seat in the house, and you can tell the staff and performers truly care about delivering a memorable experience. Flat Rock Playhouse is a true gem in the North Carolina theater scene. We’ll absolutely be back for future shows. Highly recommend to both seasoned theatergoers and first-timers alike!

Wonderful production of The Orient Express! A little delightful humor added to the script that kept the audience engaged. The Playhouse was very nice, quaint. And the staff was excellent. The visit was a great experience. We'll definitely return.
Kathy L — Google review
We’ve been going to The Playhouse ever since we moved to Flat Rock (actually slightly before!). It’s been very, very good. The quality is amazing! The musicals are our favorite. We saw Gypsy, A Chorus Line, South Pacific, Mama Mia (both productions), Beautiful, and Jersey Boys! All were thoroughly great! We saw three plays: Dixie Swim Club, The Play that goes Wrong, and Clue. Dixie was super funny. The play that goes wrong was silly but fun. Clue was the only thing we saw that was not to our liking. The experience is really nice. They handle parking well and it’s only about a mile from our community so it’s convenient! The Playhouse is such a huge asset to our community!
Jay S — Google review
We saw Murder on the Orient Express. The show was amazing. The actors were fantastic. Everyone was SO friendly. The parking could have been a nightmare, but was organized surprisingly well. Why 3 stars? The setup of the theater is not good for shorter people. I couldn't see a thing without doing a constant strain and bobble head dance. Heads were blocking the stage as far as four rows in front of me. I'd either need to sit in the very front row, or the very back row with cushions so I didn't block someone behind me.

One of the best times we have had! Our whole family loved it! Great venue. Ushers are super nice. Have concessions was a great perk. Will definitely go back.

New American restaurant

Brunch restaurant
Season's At Highland Lake is an on-site restaurant at the Highland Lake Inn that offers American fine dining with picturesque garden views. The restaurant, inspired by the four distinct seasons, showcases Executive Chef Nate Sargent's farm-to-table approach and commitment to sustainable practices. Many of the fresh, seasonal ingredients used in the dishes come from the inn's own organic garden.
We were in town to enjoy the season change and celebrate my husband’s birthday. While deciding where to have dinner we fell on Season’s at Highland Lake and have no regrets. Dinner was impeccable and memorable!! We are going to make Seasons a staple when visiting the area and consider staying on the property next visit.

Brunch with a View, But Light on Flavor We made the Sunday drive from Greenville with high hopes and brunch sized appetites, pulling into Seasons at Highland Lake about an hour or two before the buffet closed. The setting was serene, and it was odd that we were the only people there, but staff mentioned we’d just missed the rush and that this was their slow season. Atmosphere wise, it’s a winner. Nestled in a secluded hotel lodge like setting, it feels like part of a mountain retreat. A live guitarist played soft tunes and took requests, adding to the relaxed, upscale vibe. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to unplug and stay for the weekend. Unfortunately, the food didn’t match the mood, or the name. Everything looked beautifully presented and artfully arranged, but almost all of it fell flat in flavor. It’s like they used all the seasoning on naming the restaurant. There’s no shortage of options on the buffet, and you might find a few things you like, but don’t expect anything memorable. None of the dishes are worth mentioning though, please explore yourself. A lovely setting for a quiet morning, but not a destination brunch spot when it comes to the food. Let’s hope the next season brings a bit more spice. I hope to be back and give it another try.

Season’s at Highland Lake is an absolute delight! Our server was outstanding — attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. The food was fantastic, full of fresh flavors and perfectly prepared. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a great meal. And the Sunday brunch all-you-can-eat? Simply incredible! If you leave here hungry, it’s entirely your fault — there’s something delicious for everyone. This place is a must-visit!

Crab cake, prime rib, and the trout were phenomenal. We had creme Brule for dessert, and it was delicious as well. Can't believe it has taken us this long to finally have dinner here. We will be back again soon!

On a recent visit to Hendersonville, we had dinner at Season’s at Highland Lake and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The food and service were top-notch. I ordered the halibut, which was cooked to perfection, and my two guests enjoyed the steak, both of which they said were amazing. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making for a fun and memorable night out. I’ll definitely return the next time I’m in the area and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal in Hendersonville.
Diane S — Google review
This was our first visit to this restaurant. It is less than 5 minutes from the Flat Rock Playhouse making it a convenient location for dinner and a show afterwards. The atmosphere was quiet although they had a guitar player singing light jazzy, old standards, which we really enjoyed. Service was extremely attentive, and just the right pace. The food was excellent. My wife requires gluten free prep and they brought her a separate menu which was nicely varied. We shared an heirloom tomato and burrata caprese salad that they split onto separate plates. My wife had a seared salmon dish with risotto and I had a tomahawk pork chop with linguini. Both entrees were plated beautifully and were delicious.

This is an awesome restaurant! It is very charming but not stuffy or old fashioned. It's a great destination restaurant. They do except reservation which makes planning a night out on the weekend easier. The food is fresh and tasty with modern twists. The cook is phenomenal! Service is fast and friendly without being overbearing. They offer a nice selection of wines and a full bar. We had the trout and the steak. Both were excellent. We had creme brulee and a key lime tart for dessert - again both excellent. We will definitely be back to this wonderful restaurant.

Farmers' market
Sky Top Orchard, established in the 1960s, is a picturesque mountaintop farm that offers seasonal fruit picking for apples, pears, and peaches. Beyond being an orchard, it provides pick-your-own-apple day tours and fun activities for families and kids during the fall. Visitors can enjoy picnic tables with scenic views, explore bamboo forests on trails, and take hayrides. The orchard also features apple cannons and food options like hot dogs and tamales.
This was my second visit since last year, and I continue to be impressed! The place has a huge variety of apples, all fresh, well-maintained, and of great quality. The ambiance is perfect for picnics, with stunning mountain views all around. The grounds are beautiful, and the staff are incredibly friendly, offering wonderful service and assistance whenever needed. A truly enjoyable experience—I highly recommend it!
Divakar R — Google review
Absolutely incredible! So much to do for the kiddos, doughnuts were amazing, apple cider slushy and kids apple juice souvenir cups in apples or pumpkins themes during the fall are super cute! Definitely busy on weekends but everything runs pretty smooth. Waited in line to purchase items less than 10 mins, they have plenty or registers. Lots of places to sit, a covered sand pit (I'd just recommend bringing your own sand toys) lots of play houses, some swings, hayrides, bee ride, apple shooting. The one thing I wish they had that I didn't see were those vats of corn kids can play in. Definitely bring your stroller or wagon if you have young kids, to carry your drinks and heavy bag of apples, don't wear your nice shoes, and be prepared to walk. Most of trees near the front had been picked over or didn't have apples that were ready to be picked yet. But with some walking down the hill a ways we had plenty of gorgeous apples to choose from. Overall, a wonderful experience and we will be making trips back in the future! ❤️❤️❤️
Danni F — Google review
My son and I had an amazing time. We ventured up to Sky Top on a random Monday and left with more apples than we could eat AND donuts. It's not to say we didn't work for our apple -- definitely got my steps in walking the fields but it's fun. There is plenty of stuff to do with the kiddos like shooting apples across a pond and going on a tractor ride and of course indulging in apple treats. Fun spot! Highly recommend.
Andrez C — Google review
Decided to make visit not knowing what to expect. Upon arrival you know this was a big deal by the amount of people. The grounds were neatly kept with lots of staff to assist with directions. Even with the amount of people it was very organized and lines never lingered. Definitely if you have children this is a wonderland of exploring. The apple cider frozen was my favorite being super fresh and just the right amount of sweet. The donuts are a big item but don’t sleep on the caramel apple oatmeal cookies . We will definitely make this a reoccurring adventure.
Seth C — Google review
We LOVED Sky Top Orchard!! We ate some delicious hot apple cider donuts, we bought some fresh Gala apples- so crisp and perfect! We also got hot apple cider which was fresh and sweet, and we got a small hand Apple pie - delicious! We enjoyed a hayride and the apple cannons were a blast! Definitely a great place to take the whole family! There were lots of people there but it didn’t feel too crowded because it’s huge!
Lisa L — Google review
Very nice to visit. If possible try to visit during the week as the weekend is so busy and in September. The apple cider doughnuts are amazing. My family went the first weekend in October so most of the apples in front of the orchard were gone. We ended up hiking it to the back of the orchard to pick apples. We weren't thinking we had to hike it back to our car carring 60 lbs of apples, thats 1 bag each of 30 lbs of apples. It was worth the exercise but next time will be taking a wagon for the grandchildren and the apples. 😃
L — Google review
Very crowded, great views and lots to do. Great family place for fall. The food was a bit overwhelming a pizza $24 and the pumpkin selections stated at what looked like to be $20 and up for a pumpkin. They could add a few more tables. A lot of people were standing around for an hour waiting on a table to open up so they can eat. Good thing is they allow you to bring your own food also.. you wNt be able to go in the orchard without paying $30 which was a real bummer for us as we only wanted to pick a few apples and not a huge bags worth.
Bonnie R — Google review
We love this orchard! There's so much to do! They have an animal farm, a bamboo forest, hayride, bee train, apple canon, gift shop and bakery! They make their donuts fresh everyday! They're so yummy!! Definitely our favorite in the area! Oh and of course, there's apple picking too! Highly recommend!!

Bakery
Flat Rock Village Bakery offers a variety of baked goods and cafe fare, including wood-fired pizza, as well as a selection of coffee, beer, and wine in a relaxed setting. The bakery is known for its clean and well-maintained accommodations with genuine hospitality. It's one of the best spots to experience delicious flavors in Flat Rock, North Carolina. Additionally, the bakery is surrounded by other local coffee shops where visitors can enjoy freshly roasted coffee beans and aromatic brews.
Flat Rock Village Bakery is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by the warm, rustic aroma of fresh-baked bread and wood-fired pizzas. Everything feels homemade and crafted with care. Their pastries are outstanding—flaky, buttery, and full of flavor—and the coffee pairs perfectly. The wood-fired pizza is a must-try: thin, crisp crust with fresh, high-quality toppings that make every bite memorable. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, perfect for enjoying a relaxing meal or picking up something to take home. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, and quick to make you feel like part of the community. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to come back to again and again, whether for breakfast, lunch, or a casual afternoon treat. Flat Rock Village Bakery is truly a local treasure—worth every visit!

Don’t ask to use the restroom 6 minutes before they open because the answer will be NO! I stepped into the delivery door to ask and after being told no, she closed the door fairly hard. I don’t understand the lack of empathy. I wasn’t trying to cut the line. Picking up 10 scones for our staff’s breakfast. This place has great bakery items, pizza and sandwiches. I come often and never have been disappointed. Returning for pizza pickup at lunch for a work event also. Have your receipt ready for online purchases. Good thing my co worker sent me the online receipt link since at the register I was told the scones were not part of the lunch order.
Brian S — Google review
Flat Rock Village Bakery nails the wood-fired, thin-crust game — bubbly, crisp edges with a perfectly chewy center. The toppings are fresh, flavorful, and generously applied, and even 35 minutes later it stays hot and delicious. This is hands-down the best pizza in town — full stop. The classic organic crust is worth every penny, and if you like thin, light, wood-fired rounds, this is your place. It’s always my go-to when I want a standout pie with no fuss and all the flavor.
Judson R — Google review
This is one of the most unique eateries in the area. Outdoor deck seating under a spreading tree, quiet and relaxing. My club sandwich was great and I may have added a pastry from the glass case full of enticing treats (hello pecan bar)!😋
Ronald B — Google review
This quaint bakery is situated directly on the main street running through Flat Rock. The parking can be difficult, but the food is worth a few extra steps. The staff is bubbly and professional, with warm invitation to enjoy excellent coffee and delicious food. Bagels, bread loaves, cookies, muffins, tarts and quiche are a few of the amazing in house pastries made to perfection. Their food options of pizza and sandwiches are delicious. I only have one recommendation for improvement. Destroy the recipe for the "ranch". I have never had a ranch that had lemon in it... It wasn't ranch. It actually made me quite sad.
Chase E — Google review
Sweet little wood fired bakery, great local hub, kind folks, and comfy indoor and outdoor vibes. Cooperative Roasters coffee brewed to perfection.

Got the worst chicken salad I've ever had here. 3rd time visiting hendersonville but our first time eating here and Because of the reviews I thought it was going to be good but unfortunately it was not. The chicken salad was nothing but large pieces of red onion. Barely any chicken or any chicken salad at all on thr two large pieces of tough bread. So it felt like I was eating bread and onions. For thr price it was not worth it. Doesn't even come with chips or a drink. We got pizzas too and they were disappointing. The pizza cheese was just crumbled cheap parm and super salty. The pizza dough was so thin that you couldn't pick up the pizza without it sagging towards the floor. Would of been better off with frozen pizza from the grocery store. The only staff that was nice was the girl that took our order and thr lady that was very cheerful and smiling. She helped get some parm cheese for my husband. Because of them I gave the service 2 stars. Unfortunately we will not be trying them again. Spent almost $60 on terrible food.

We stopped in here after breakfast at Honey and Salt (highly recommend)! They helped us pick out a wedding gift for a wedding that evening. This is one of my two favorite art/gift shops in the area, and I come every summer when we're in town. The selection is unique and the price points reasonable. There are things in the shop that will make you think of a friend, laugh out loud, picture it in your home - go take a look!

Such a wonderful boutique home store and gift shop!! Beautiful and unique selections you will proudly want to take home to enjoy or gift your loved ones. My daughter and I selected some wonderful (paper-look) cut-out solar lanterns for her home. We shopped for quite a while and the shop owners were so friendly and helpful. Never pushy at all. We made several purchases and we are so pleased with everything. My daughter needed to exchange one lantern. But it was not an issue at all. She discovered a new design that had not been in previously. I highly recommend Dogwood.

What an adorable shop!! There are so many home accessories, cute kitchen gadgets, and many many local items that are extraordinary and completely unique!! The felt flowers and felted animals, local artwork & photos, handmade soap, local honey, the list goes on!! We even got to meet the resident kitty, Squirt. Definitely coming back to see what's new the next time I'm in town.

I am so excited to discover this new little store. So many one of a kind original pieces of art as well as hand crafted items made by local people known to Kelli, the owner. I understand that new items arrive almost daily so frequent visits are a must. The store itself is so inviting and once inside you will be amazed at all there is to see. I love supporting the small business owner and this one is worth everyones's support. Happy shopping!

This eclectic boutique offers an array of equestrian goods, southern folk art, clothing, toys, and antiques. Additionally, visitors can indulge in delicious treats from the bakery located at the back of the store. The cozy eatery/bakery provides a delightful dining experience with outdoor seating available.
Took a trip to Asheville and took a recommendation from Pinterest. The Wrinkled Egg in Flat Rock made for a nice leisurely lunch and a little shopping. The eatery/ bakery is quite small but packs a wallop. Found in the back of The Wrinkled Egg boutique you’ll mosey up to the counter and place your order. Browse the baked good and check out the days special. After ordering find your way out to the outdoor only seating area and enjoy the fresh mountain air while sipping your favorite beverage. The tuna salad was delicious and the pickled onions on it just made it pop. The avocado BLT was amazing. Two thumbs up on the oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies! Enjoy shopping the storefront boutique.

I had the best shopping experience ever! The Wrinkled Egg owner and staff helped me put together a long overdue "camp care package" for my daughter's birthday/wedding anniversary! Service and selection were above and beyond! If Google had a 6 star, I would give it. Thanks so much!

Well-stocked gift store full of fun surprises, even for kids. Check out all of the beautiful books here as well as some really pretty clothes.

The food here is really good, but it seems to always be pretty busy. You do need patience as the diner portion is very crowded and the wait is kind of long. Very nice, tiny bathroom, and outdoor seating. Very hard to find parking!

Honey and Salt is a popular dining spot with warm and friendly staff, offering convenient communication for table availability. The restaurant provides indoor and outdoor dining options with a varied menu. Visitors recommend trying the salmon sandwich, which is described as exceptional. While parking can be challenging, there is ample handicapped parking available. Many travelers have extended their stay in the area to dine at Honey and Salt due to its fantastic food and service. The staff is known for being friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable.
We are from out town located about 6 hours away, and loved it so much, we visited back to back times. Both times the waits were not bad (under 20 minutes). The staff was extremely courteous and bubbly even with the breakfast rush hour. The waitress recommend the house special Monkey Bread - do yourself a favor and get it when you make a visit - WORTH IT. They provided us with exceptionally friendly customer service, took our order and the food came out rather quickly! Their English muffins are house-made and fantastic! They’re not cardboard garbage you find in other breakfast spots. They have raw local honey on each of the tables which was a sight for sore eyes as I usually never see this anywhere! Everything we ordered was phenomenal, my daughters French toast was buttery-melt-in-your-mouth (which we used honey on it also). Over all, if I could give 10 stars I would for this local gem, it’s located in a quaint area with two adorable boutique shops for holiday gift finds. We never felt rushed to make room for others on the wait list. Nothing in the areas (boutiques and restaurant) are overpriced and I felt full and content after leaving. From the service, to the food and prices we left satisfied and will surely recommend this to all.
Nadia M — Google review
We heard about this place from some locals in town why said we simply had to try this place before we left. We ended up staying another day in the area than originally planned, which luckily made it possible for us to try them out since they aren't open on Monday's and Tuesday's. And we weren't disappointed. This place is absolutely fantastic and probably the best food and service we've had on our entire trip. The staff is really friendly, upbeat, accommodating, and knowledgeable. They have a small outdoor seating area in addition to their indoor seating think can accommodate pets. This was another driving factor for us. The restaurant was clean and organized. The coffee was strong, yet delicious. They actually had organic cane sugar for our coffee, which we are usually hard pressed to find. They had a ton of gluten free and vegetarian options. Plus many meat options for my more meat prone spouse. We tried the gluten free Lemon Raspberry coffee cake which was moist and delicious. I had the Greenhouse Skillet and my spouse had the Corn Beef Hash Bowl. The flavor profiles of both were extremely diverse and we didn't feel heavy or weighted down after we finished. Overall, a wonderful experience and we will be sure to come back anytime we are in this area.
Shanah B — Google review
Great place for breakfast, right next to our favorite bakery/flat rock bakery. Egg sandwich was tasty, substantial and a little bacon made it a tasty combination. Fun twist to pancakes topped with homemade granola. Was there an off peak time and as we all know sometimes the service suffers. Maybe the servers had too much time to think as opposed to react. No worries :-)
Kirt K — Google review
Edit 4/22/22: They have recently renovated the interior and it feels a lot less crowded. More room to get between the tables. Food continues to be excellent, and the service is always so friendly. Our wait was about 30 minutes, but the food was well worth it and the service was friendly! My only recommendation would be that they get the buzzers to tell you when your table is ready so people don't have to crowd the patio and could wander over to the Wrinkled Egg to window shop while they waited! But the food! I LOVED my Greenhouse breakfast skillet (plus pork from Hubba Hubba Smokehouse, because why not?). The flavors were bright (the basil cream totally made the dish) and it didn't leave me too full, which sometimes skillets can do. Everyone else enjoyed their food too! I will definitely be back.

This restaurant is warm and inviting - we never felt rushed - even though they are popular amoung tourists and locals alike. They feature several local vendors and a farm to market feel on their menu. We enjoyed a fabulous cup of coffee, a breakfast skillet and eggs benedict. The star of our breakfast was the Sweet and Sassy toast. Seriously a divine slice of heaven nestled in the mountains. Be prepared to wait - but its well worth it.
Tori B — Google review
Stopped in for breakfast. I had the smokehouse skillet - AMAZING! Brisket hashcake, pimento cream cheese, pulled pork, egg, cheddar, bacon, BBQ sauce & roasted tomato. The sauce was tangy & sweet, a pleasant surprise. Can't wait to come back and making my way through the menu! Fantastic!!!
Davey S — Google review
Well worth the 20min wait. I always struggle with breakfast in this area—my mind is hardly ever blown. Best monkey bread I’ve ever tried & a delicious veggie breakfast bowl! I love their dedication to sustainability and local foods!
Harmony B — Google review
Service and food was great! Sad that we didn't get to try the monkey bread because they only serve it on Sat and Sun but this just makes us look forward to going back to the restaurant. We ordered the reuben (sauerkraut was great and not too sour), avocado toast, sausage and gravy, and french toast (very light and fluffy but could use a bit more fruit topping). Overall a great experience and really cannot wait to go back!

It feels thoughtful and clean with an outdoorsy vibe. My family and kids really enjoyed our lunch here. The food tasted delicious and made from scratch. I went on a Friday during Lent and they had some fish options for us. The service was excellent! We will definitely be back to try their meat. lol

Decided to venture out for a new place we hadn’t tried. We’d gone by this place a few times but never had time to stop in until now. Great friendly service from all wait staff. Cozy cabin vibes with excellent drink selections and food options. Outside covered and non covered patio seating with ample parking behind the restaurant. We were very happy with our dishes and drinks. Plus all the deserts were fantastic! Cheers!

Such a great little spot! I saw a lot of burgers and such on the reviews, which is not what I was in the mood for, but they have many options including a delicious short rib with potatoes, salads, fish, and great specials and drinks! My husband did get a burger and he loved it. Service was excellent, food was even better. We’ll be back !

My husband and I went out on the spur of the moment to go on a date. We got here during dinner time, we had about 1.5 hrs to get to the playhouse for the play. When we walked in they told us the wait time, which we couldn't wait that long. They were amazing got a table that we were willing to share and got our food out quickly. They were amazing to work with us to make sure we were out in time for the show. Great food, sweet and great service. Would love to go back when we have more time.

My husband and I were away on a weekend getaway in Hendersonville/flat rock. We were having a hard time trying to figure out where to eat dinner and finally agreed upon this place. My husband wanted Mexican, but I didn’t really want Mexican but here he was able to get fire roasted chicken enchiladas with beans and rice and he was very pleased with the meal. I was able to get the grilled trout and it came with wild rice and mixed vegetables. I was not too keen on the mixed vegetables that came with it but the waitress Lauren was nice enough to go ask if there were any alternative vegetables that they could prepare for me. She came back and said they could do asparagus and so that’s what I ordered with my fish and it was delicious. The trout was cooked just right it had a great lemon seasoning on it. Asparagus was good and the rice was good. Lauren was very attentive very knowledgeable and very helpful. We will be back.
Susan C — Google review
Everything that we ordered was delicious and also looked good. I got the shrimp and grits. My friend ordered the burger and they said it was very juicy. The clam chowder was also tasty and the bread roll was soft, fresh and tasty. The croissant were also delicious. We got 2 order to go 😳😉

Arrived at 3:15 pm so was seated immediately. Food was good. Waitress left us and checked on us one time. Never offered to refill my drink. We finished eating and sat about 15 minutes before she showed up. Said that was fast when saw we were done. Rude! Restaurant was not busy so don’t know why she didn’t do her job. Probably won’t be back.

Nestled in a charming locale, Flat Rock Bistro Cinema offers a unique movie-watching experience that combines the thrill of first-run films with the comfort of a bistro setting. Guests can indulge in delicious house-made food and sip on drinks from a full bar while enjoying their favorite flicks. The cinema features an inviting atmosphere with cozy seating arrangements, including tables and chairs alongside traditional cinema seats, ensuring you’re comfortable throughout your viewing.
We recently hosted our daughter’s 16th birthday party at Flat Rock Bistro Cinema, and it was absolutely fantastic! Bryan made everything so easy and enjoyable. We brought a CD for a private movie showing, and the girls loved having the entire theater to themselves—it was such a fun and unique experience. Before the movie started, we were able to play a PowerPoint slideshow on the big screen with photos and birthday messages for our daughter. It was such a special touch—it actually made her cry! That moment alone made the whole day unforgettable. We were also able to bring in our own food, which gave us lots of flexibility. The cinema provided all the popcorn, snacks, and sodas the girls could want, and everything was fresh and delicious. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. If you're looking for a unique and memorable place to host a party or event, I highly recommend Flat Rock Bistro Cinema. We’re so glad we chose it!

A theater with a home town feel to it. First run, sometimes hard to find, films are shown regularly. The parking is good. The staff is friendly. And, unlike at Regal or Cinemark, you’ll find none of the reserved seating nonsense. Try their hot dogs. Very good.

Tea house
A Southern Cup Fine Teas is a charming boutique tearoom that offers a delightful selection of quality loose leaf teas and infusions. The classic Cream Tea service includes delectable scones, fresh fruit, clotted cream, lemon curd, and jam. The owner, Ms. Kym, is known for her hands-on approach and personal attention to each guest.
If you like tea rooms you will love this awesome little place. It closes by 4pm. We enjoyed the cream Tea (2 scones each, lemon curd, raspberry jam, butter and a pot of Southern Peach). Many teas to choose from. They also have afternoon teas which you must make a reservation. Special high tea events (in the fall). The owner Kym is a fine host. The atmosphere is classic tea room.
Tami S — Google review
Outstanding tea experience! The sandwiches were fresh and delicious, the tea selection was widely varied and exceptionally interesting, and the dessert tier was fantastic. The owner is wonderful as well. Historic location with a great story. Would give ten stars if I could!
Erika M — Google review
This was my first “REAL” tea party ever. Kim was the best hostess. She had every accommodation imaginable. There was real food & I mean the most flavorful, filling portions. The sourdough scones, the chicken salad sandwiches, the chocolate cupcakes, the cucumber sandwiches, the meringue cookies, the mousse, the fresh grapes, the jams, the tea and the many other food items were delish but I’ve never had Louisiana style egg salad before & it is better than any other egg salad, HANDS DOWN!!! The china is exquisite and so beautiful. Its daintiness allowed drinking with pinky raised easy & pleasurable. I really felt like I’d slipped into a Southern Paradise. I’d make a 3 hour trip to Hendersonville, NC again to be spoiled, pampered & catered again. Don’t waste time book your next tea party at A Southern Cup Fine Teas. YOU DESERVE IT!
Catherine R — Google review
We had SO much fun with our high tea experience! Kim puts so much intentionality into her teas and presentations. We were there for a part of my bachelorette, and she made the experience feel so special. The tea house is homey and cozy. I definitely want to go back!

*Do not buy gift certificates here.* In April, I surprised my husband with cream tea and had a gift certificate to pay for the service. The gift card was perhaps a year and a half old, but it had no expiration date listed. When we checked out, the gift card would not work. The owner, Kym, mentioned she had this happen before. Strangely, she kept the gift card and had us pay for our tea service with credit card. I made sure she had my phone number, and she said she'd call the gift card company. I waited 3 weeks until after busy Mother's Day before leaving a message asking about the gift card. It is now mid-June, so Kym evidently had no intention of fixing the situation, and I guess that's why she kept the gift card. She was paid for a service she did not provide. That amounts to theft, and we are so disappointed we can't support her establishment any longer. The test of a good business and owner is when something goes awry. It put a sour note on a lovely outing after a very hard year for my husband and me.
Jessi C — Google review
We had the loveliest bridal shower here at A Southern Cup! This was all of our first experiences having a proper afternoon tea and wow, it was amazing! The China black tea, finger sandwiches, and small treats were absolutely divine - some of the best egg salad and chicken salad sandwiches I have ever had! Kim was very kind and attentive to us and made sure we had a wonderful time. We will all certainly be back.

The Gallery at Flat Rock is jewel tuck into the heart of the Village. A warm and inviting space that offers amazing art and wonderful gift items. They also hold many special events and gallery shows throughout the year. The Gallery should be on the "must see" list for anyone living in or visiting Flat Rock.

I love this well curated gallery! It is a showcase for art and crafts in Flat Rock, North Carolina. The space is well organized and the pieces are beautifully displayed. The staff is helpful and friendly. The director is knowledgable and has a good eye for quality! It is always a pleasure to visit The Gallery at Flat Rock.

This gallery is a true gem. My favorite gallery in WNC. Always new and exciting exhibitions, great art, sculpture, jewelry, classes and events for everyone. A MUST visit for locals and visitors alike. Photos from a recent exhibition "Art in Bloom" pairing fine art with floral art impressions.

Marvelous gallery with a myriad of local artists work, and then some! Perfect place for every price point - whether gifts, investment pieces or restyling of home. My go-to place for clients new to town! Happy to have Suzanne and Co. here in Flat Rock!

A lovely gallery with a nice variety of styles and media-- paintings, pottery, jewelry, woodwork, textiles. All of it superb! Prices also range from a few dollars to thousands.

We hired Suzanne for a porch portrait and wow, best decision of our life! We were just visiting the area at a local Airbnb, but Suzanne made it so simple to meet up at our rental, do the photo shoot and kept it all so fun and relaxed (much appreciated by a family of four that consists of a 10 year old and 3 year old who is very active!) We can’t express enough how grateful we are to her. Made our visit so memorable, highly recommend this to anyone. (Not to mention she is donating 30% of her proceeds to the Flat Rock community playhouse, how cool is this woman!) Also, highly recommend taking a visit to her art gallery in Flat Rock, she has many local artists works displayed there, including some AMAZING jewelry artists. 10 stars!

I enjoyed this airy space and the art. It's quite hidden in the back of the shopping complex, so be persistent. Our navigator sent us to the wrong place. It's worth turning around to find it. (Bonus: across the street from the bakery😉) I especially love the subtle scent of oil paintings in the air. There were lovely jewelry choices too. Have fun.

I had heard many good things about the Gallery at Flat Rock for several months before finally paying a visit. Then I could see why everyone was raving about it. The quality of the artwork on display is top notch and you can tell that a fine curatorial eye has determined the caliber of the artists included and of the work that's on display. The exhibits change frequently so there's always something new to discover.

WHAT A FUN STOP!!! They have EVERY POSSIBLE thing you need or can imagine for your kitchen AND a very large area of dishes. I saw lots of white restaurant porcelain, Fiestaware, Spode, Lenox, Royal Doultan and Dansk to name a few. Upstairs is full of home decor, lamps and Christmas items. They also had a section of jams, apple butters and sauces. Definitely worth the stop!

This tore has everything under the sun. We send all of our friends here and tell them, "If they don't have it, nobody does!" They have an endless selection of housewares and garden accessories. They carry many unusual items that can't be found in other stores. The owners are super friendly and helpful. It is such a joy to be there that we stop in even if we don't need anything.

I've been visiting "The Dish Barn" since I was a kid. So many neat kitchen gadgets and yard decor items. I purchased my favorite steak knives here. It's a great place to find gifts too.

This place is jam packed with items, mainly for the kitchen. We have been in the Asheville area for 10 years and this is our 1st time there. Don't really need much for the kitchen, but we still picked up a couple of things.

Absolutely love this place! They have a lot of interesting and unique pieces but some of the items they have are really special to them because they want a pretty penny for certain things, however some of the pieces they have are hard to find anywhere else.

Place was great! If you are a landscaper either professionally or at heart? Or maybe you are just looking for inspiration? Maybe you are looking to find that awesome thing that will tie a room together? This place is perfect for all that. And that's not all... You know when your grandma dozes off sitting straight up??? The inside of this place is what granny is dreaming of. Everything you need for the kitchen, living room, common areas and on and on. Would have given it 5 stars, but one star goes out to all the money i spent here.
