Nature & Parks
Apollo Community Regional Park, spanning 54 acres, boasts three picturesque man-made lakes surrounded by verdant trees and well-maintained walking paths. The park is a popular destination in Lancaster for fishing, picnicking, leisurely strolls around the lakes, and various recreational activities. Additionally, visitors can enjoy amenities such as picnic areas, BBQ grills, playgrounds, and restrooms.
Very clean park. Bring your fishing poll and license to fish. This provides plenty picnic areas for a BBQ. Small playground areas around the park for kids and handicap parking spaces. Walkways are paved and smooth so it's fairly easy to walk on them if you are handicap like me.
Silvia I — Google review
Beautiful park. It's probably a mile walk around the whole lake. Lots of different birds, keep in mind the geese are forward little animals. Bathrooms at every .25 of a mile, give or take.
Gaby — Google review
Went with family out here to walk the dogs and just get some exercise now I love love love the trails here just beautiful and plenty of walking around from place to place minutes from foxy landing air strip you can see the private planes taking off and landing right over the lake great place to take the pups along and wherever you go the ducks and geese follow to see if you'll throw any food a real gem and family friendly plenty of shaded park areas great for BBQ or just relaxing def recommend!
Marie C — Google review
This was my first time at this park. It is a nice park, it has plenty of bathrooms and pretty clean. Lots of shaded sitting areas and more than one play place for children
Felina F — Google review
Beautiful park to hang out with your whole family! Playgrounds, fishing spots, trail for walking, picnick area. Shady trees and the lovely lakes
Karen S — Google review
This place has a cool atmosphere. Lots of ducks and geese. The lake is aquamarine blue and you can fish. The picturesque background of the mountains are amazing! There are grills and pergolas throughout the park. Great for picnics and any kind of gathering, but as you may know it is hot so plan accordingly.
Samuel ( — Google review
Been coming here off and on for years. Nice change of pace from the other parks in the area. Place to fish. Feed ducks. Play on jungle gyms or just for walk around the park. Secluded from other parks, it’s not usually busy. A place to get away. Side note: Do the Magical Rode. Far left lane and have video ready for recording
Jeff N — Google review
So cute! The water in little islands with all the Ducks and geese. Several different playground areas. Very clean. Bathrooms picnic areas barbecue areas looks real well thought out. I did not see any trash or garbage anywhere. Everybody was friendly.

Fun playground for all ages. 8 swings (2 are for babies, 2 big kid/ regular swings, 4 are the large plastic inclusive swings), multiple slides, climbing stuff, baby stuff, music, turf hill….. there is a lot! Huge park with lots of shade, trees, many volleyball, tennis, baseball, and basketball courts, picnic tables and barbecues. Lots of people take their dogs here. There are washrooms by the playground. There are murals and the grounds are kept nicely. It is by a large bus terminal and YMCA, which also means there is tons of parking. Lots of potential but many things are broken; the batons for playing the music, the logs for climbing on, and holes in the rubber ground. It is also very dirty with handprints are hand dirt.
Holly H — Google review
This park has made several improvements over the last 3 years! It’s has a new play area for the kids! 5 baseball fields, 2 full basketball court, full tennis courts and volleyball.. This park has lots space to spread out and have a birthday party or fly a kite! During the week it’s very quite. The community really makes an efforts to keep it safe and clean for everyone to enjoy! These photos were taken on a Sunday evening. Bless up! I believe on Mondays they have tons of food trucks lined up!

It was A very Hot Day 🔥 & I went with my friends & there grandkids to the splash pad how fun and a beautiful park with lots of grass a playground, exercise equipment, I had so much fun walking around and finding more and more things to do

Great place for jogging with kids playground. Water splash is open for all kids, love it.
Valeriano R — Google review
Beautiful, Clean park. It has a splash pad which is great for the kiddos and it has 2 separate playgrounds, which is great.
Araceli G — Google review
Nice and clean very well taken care of great place to workout or just to bring the kids or enjoy some time alone
Iamlove711 2 — Google review
My 1yr old baby boy loved it. There were loose dogs, some people are careless, don't have their dogs on leashes. For the most part, it's a big park, playground for bigger kids, and playground for smaller kids separated.
CHRIS ( — Google review
My grandson Mason, who's 14 months old, enjoyed his time at the park. They have a free water feature where kids can play in the water for free.
Michael E — Google review
While there are many positives about this park, such as the BBQ pits, the splash pad, the really tall slides, there are some downsides as well. I wasn't too fond of the Flies, but I guess that's only natural with an area that has water. I wasn't too fond of the smell from the recycled rubber ground in the play area. While I admire the use of recycled rubber, in the blistering heat, the smell can be too much for some. I wish there was a shaded area that people can sit under near where their kids are playing instead of hanging out in the heat. Overall, this is a decent Park.
Dan B — Google review
Splash park is well maintained and lots of fun, wet space to play. Dry area is also super fun. Plenty of shade for adults. Highly recommend!

The park also features an outdoor pool and splash pad area for visitors to enjoy. Additionally, it has sports fields and hosts annual events that are fun to attend. The skate park within the premises is well-liked by skaters due to its good flow and kidney-shaped pool with a shallow end.
Love coming to this park, has just about everything one could ask for. Best feature is the “Ghost bowl” thank you Lance Mountain!!!
J A — Google review
It was a nice park, in a quiet neighborhood. As it gotta later in the day, more people came to the park that seemed homeless. My 12 yr was offered a hit off a vape by a teen boy, my son declined and my son was ready to go after that.
Melissa G — Google review
Playground and equipment are clean and maintained. When I went into the restroom, there was graffiti head to toe in the walls. Homeless lingering towards the middle of the park doesn't make me feel safe with kids nearby. Tennis, volleyball, basketball, and skatepark are all clean and maintained.
James F — Google review
Great skate Park activity Center has a multitude of programs the kids playground is gated which is great. Some vagrants and homelessness around the area at night but great during the day
Shahab C — Google review
Loads of trees for shade. It's a great park, although there was a homeless person sleeping in the park and someone puked at the water fountain. Luckily, other people at the park offered us some of their bottled water. There is also damage to the gates at the play area to gain entry, so obviously, homeless people use the park at night as shelter. Lastly, when we took our daughter there, a group of men was sitting at the play area, drinking beer and smoking cannabis. So all in all the park is great however the people at the park is sometimes a hit or miss.
Jan K — Google review
The park is pretty peaceful in the morning for the most part. They keep the grass cut. You have to watchout for dog poop in the grass. Few homeless ppl crash out by the skatepark area. And by the pool is disgusting. Human waste and urine there. Trash left by homeless ppl. It needs to be power washed and treated with chemicals to get rid of the biohazard left behind. But overall. Cool park to stop at and run and rest your feet.
D W — Google review
Is a nice park, but if you are by yourself with your daughter, doesn’t feel very safe, there is a people sleeping on front of the kid playground

Very nice renovation of the play equipment!! Plenty to do for big and small kiddos. Someone was finally really smart and used shade!!!!!!
Nadene C — Google review
Really great park. 2 regular swings 2 buddy swings (straps not on one though) A cute play house and play trees It’s mostly a rubber surface, some turf, (no wood chips!) and away from the playground is regular grass and trees. Covered (yay) play structures and lots of shade from trees. Ramps, braille, a little one play area Lots to climb on Monkey bars Lots of slides A glide boat/ rock bench 2 spinny seats Nearby public bathrooms Overall a great park The downsides: It’s a dog park and the garbages can be quite smelly Many spider webs and I even saw a few dead spiders and a black widow on the play structure
Holly H — Google review
Friendly park to visit close to AV College. 2 baseball/ softball fields, 2 basketball courts and a dog friendly parks and clean restrooms.
Virgilio J — Google review
Nice, active small park to enjoy with the local community 🤎. I love skating through here.
A.K — Google review
I loved this park. During the day, it's fine, but not when the sun starts going down. It gets too wild after. I like the calmness.
Eunice B — Google review
This park is nestled within the city of Lancaster. Right across the street from Antelope Valley College and the Lancaster Sheriffs Office. This park usually quite. Many parents love to bring newborns and toddlers here for its age appropriate playground and for its safety factors. There’s two baseball fields and basketball courts. I would occasionally see parties and often see city workers (postmen, gov recreation vehicles parked in the lot.) overall it’s very safe and quite. Great fields space to fly a drone, kite or play any sport!
Tremendous T — Google review
This was the first time I have been to this park and the restroom was a Mess...I was telling my daughter before we got there, at least they have clean restrooms. Well, I was proved wrong. With all the cut backs. I guess they cut the cleaning crew.
Nadine W — Google review
The playgrounds, part of the parking lot, and the basketball courts were fenced off for repaires. The restrooms were clean, but the women's restroom sink did not have water.

State nature reserve within the Mojave Desert has 8-mile hikes & a wildflower season March to May.
Very beautiful place, and it's a very good place for families to visit and walk around. Beautiful flowers all over the place and the trails are very clean and easy to follow. Overall loved it
Jennifer F — Google review
It was my first time here. I was very excited to experience. All the poppies, but unfortunately, due to the weather, there weren't very much. It was pretty dry. However, I did try to make the best of it, and I still walked the trails. They had there to check out the views. They were some poppies, but not as it normally would look orange all over the fields. There are different flowers. That you can look at plenty of lizards and birds. But not too many poppies. They had a cool visitor center which sold a lot of items that were very cute. With poppies on them. They do have parking there. You do have to pay an admission. They also have restrooms 🚻. Please be mindful and pick up any trash that you have. Hopefully, next year, the weather will be perfect for the poppies to Bloom. There was no super Bloom this year.
Sandra C — Google review
I went here for the first time and we liked it. We loved that the trails lead you back and no chance to get lost. Though cold, there are flowers especially on the side that does not have much wind. It’s beautiful. Fresh air. Greatfull to experience nature.
Chris M — Google review
I went years ago with the kids and it was in full bloom at the time. As soon as you see a bloom, I recommend going. I don't see any on the live cam yet which is too bad since it's late March already.
Lea R — Google review
We were unable to find any information about the best time to visit the park for the flower blooming season. After spending two hours traveling there, we were disappointed to find that the flowers were not in bloom.05/03/2025
Inna A — Google review
I overall enjoyed this place. The hikes were not very long. The incline was about 2% grade. Now to see the poppies in Bloom, it would depend on the weather. The poppies are sensitive. When I went, just before Spring, in late March, It had rained a lot causing the poppies too Suffer, due to lack of oxygen. So, as a warning look on their live webcam first or ask the ranger station if you can get a live person and ask them the conditions. The staff mini ATV vehicles riding around, but they seem to have missed many holes on the pathway that need filling in regularly. Good luck. 🙌🏼😅👍🏼🌅
Edward R — Google review
There's no puppies this year but if you love nature you still enjoy visiting this park. You will be amazed by the variety of other flowers you will see. The tiny tiny chamomile gives the hills that vibrant yellow color that you will love.
Estela H — Google review
Incredible hiking trails full of all of the wild flowers you could imagine this year! We got there at 730am and the park was already busy. $10 to get in and worth it in every way. Definitely stay on the trails as to not damage the flowers or disturb any wildlife.

Absolutely not what I expected lol. Huge natural walking area. Great flat and maintained walking paths. Parking area doesn't look like you should be parking there because of the city trucks but it's perfectly fine. One of the few cool places in Lancaster. These trees are always cool.

Marie C — Google review
Beautiful natural area with easy walking trails. Lots of wildlife active and beautiful Joshua Trees to make you smile. I arrived around 1245 and it was recess time at the school adjacent. Not a bad thing for me but if you're looking for peace and quiet, it might distract you. I enjoyed all of the interesting art pieces scattered throughout. There was seating evenly spaced along the trails offering good views and a choose-your-own route kind of theme. Overall, I had a great time and will return. I couldn't figure it out but some areas of the part have A Lot of broken glass... It was fairly weathered so it's been there for some time. Does this keep people from making trails or is it neglect? Just curious!
Matt W — Google review
Nice little trail if you want a scenic walk, it was an easy trail perfect for anyone. We seen a few animals such as rabbits, lizards, and a few different birds. The little stream was dried up but very peaceful. Would like to visit again.
Crystal M — Google review
Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get back to what it was. You're truly embraced by nature here. Picnic ground
Saddleback Butte State Park is a desert park that showcases rare wildlife and offers various trails and campgrounds. The park provides breathtaking views of the saddleback butte and features an impressive paved trail with an informative guide, allowing visitors to explore its history and ecology. The well-maintained nature of the park, along with its numerous covered picnic areas and informative pamphlets, create a memorable experience for visitors.
Saddleback Butte State Park is a state park in the Antelope Valley of the western Mojave Desert, in Southern California. It is located east of Lancaster, north of the community of Lake Los Angeles, and south of the city of Edwards in the unincorporated area of Hi Vista Daytime use is $6, $5 for Seniors and $3 for the Disabled. Overnight camping is $20. Centralized Restrooms are available for the 50 camping sites. Each camping spot has a table, a fire ring and an overhead shelter. The prominent feature and namesake of the park is Saddleback Butte, that is 3,651 feet (1,113 m) high. Saddleback Butte State Park includes over 2,955 Acres of land, and was created in 1960 to protect the area's Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia) desert habitat. The lights of Los Angeles obscure the stars in the sky, so star gazing isn't advisable. A nice place to hang out away from the cities. I've been utilizing this nice and fairly small park since the early 70s and have always found the park to be clean, spotless and well maintained, always free of litter! This is a wonderful park to feel the ambience and at times harsh weather of the western Mojave Desert. During the early spring the winds may blow excessively strong. It's delightful to have this wonderful park as a great escape from the City.
Robert M — Google review
This is a lightly traveled state park. It has a nice little visitor center. There is an easy trail that starts near by that showcases the various plants in the area. We took the longer hike to the top of the Butte be prepared with lots of water, snacks. Along the way up we saw a beautiful green Mojave rattlesnake, Joshua trees and flowers. The photo of the road is avenue J which runs along the north side of the park. It's often windy there and the campsites have structures to shield tents from the wind. We enjoyed our visit.
Scott B — Google review
We hiked the Saddleback Butte Trail. It was very windy. It would have been more enjoyable if it hadn't been as windy as it was, but as I've read from other reviews, it is typically windy here. It is a peaceful, quiet park. The view from the top was incredibly beautiful.

went here oct 1. great place and trail is very wheelchair friendly. there is a paved loop trail which also has benches. the loop trail starts unpaved but becomes paved around trail marker 5. the visitor center is very educational but less accessible (there are stairs to get in) go here in spring or fall- if you are expecting wildflowers, go in april or may

Fantastic little park! Has the main camping area a little close to the road but there is a secondary area that's plenty far from noise. There's a great little PAVED loop that is 100% wheelchair accessible, and plenty of dirt paths that stretch for awhile. HAVE MORE WATER THAN YOU THINK YOU NEED READY.

Great state park with fantastic views of the saddleback butte as well as an awesome paved trail with an interpretive guide that leads you through the history and the ecology of the park. Was very pleasantly surprised by the well-kept nature of the park, as well as the numerous covered picnic areas, and well researched pamphlets that give you a really good feel for this state park. With all the rains this year, thought it would be fantastic to visit--as I'd never been before. The blooms indeed were impressive, particularly with the Joshua Tree desert backdrop. Also visited the Poppy reserve this year, but what I particularly liked about this location is that we were the only ones visiting. The crowds at the Poppy reserve were comparable to an amusement park.
Craig H — Google review
Although this says "Butte Valley Wildflower Sanctuary" the sign says "Butte Valley Wildlife Sanctuary." The tiny yellow wildflowers are amazing this year. The Joshua trees here are huge. It's nice to wander around, and find those little things that are easily missed.
Steve M — Google review
I grew up here, nothing like spending the night with a view of the desert night sky! So clear and BIG it seems! You won’t be disappointed year round. So much wildlife to see.
Positively R — Google review
It is a big area that you can't drive on where wildflowers grow in spring if get rain. There is no structures or lots street parking only. Day use only no night time access aloud.

10El Dorado Park

4.1

Park
Green space featuring a tennis court, softball field & playground, plus picnic tables & restrooms.
Went to watch a softball game and my kids loved playing at the playground! Great slides and climbing structure thing. Picnic tables around and the trees sorta helped with the crazy wind. Swings and seesaw were also fun addition!
Naomi R — Google review
This park has nice exercise equipment just check for bugs before you use it. The park has dirt walking paths so don't go after it rains or you will be walking in mud like I was. Maps says the park closes at 10pm but when me and my dog were there the park security came and said that they were about to lock the gate and that we had to leave and it was only 8pm.
Thank G — Google review
Unfortunately my son, age 5, was bullied here by middle school kids using profanity and forcing him off the slide. It's a nice park but the area is really bad and desperately needs help. This was a terrible experience and we will not be going back.
Matthew M — Google review
This park is very clean, and maintained really really well over all. It’s very close to my home, so I visit regularly with my dogs. It has outdoor work out equipment along a path off to the side of the park, as well as a play area for kids, a baseball field with bleachers, a gazebo and benches. The grass is super lush, and there are plenty of trees around for shade. It’s not a super big park, but it’s a really good size for kids and for walking laps.
Sara S — Google review
Great and safe place to walk my baby "maltipoo dog " he feels confortable ,and happy ,but watch out ,i saw a hawk few months ago ,they are around the area ,they could harm your bebes ,other tan that ,just visit and enjoy
Jose A — Google review
Bring there for the first time ever!!! I let my 3 year old play on the jungle gym I seen something shiny reflecting from the Sun so when I walked up to the jungle gym it was a crack pipe with black residue and a bunch of cigarette butts so we left. This is horrible! This is a kicks park with a school being right there. Just plain sick
Lori E — Google review
It is a very dirty world here. People stop littering And all the kids play ground was stained with what looks like blood. Would not be returning and would never recommend this park
ALEX G — Google review
Even the school next door couldn't go here for awhile due to gun shots or homeless.

11American Heroes Park

Park
American Heroes Park, a 12-acre recreational complex in Lancaster, was opened in 2011 to honor local heroes. The park features playgrounds, athletic fields and courts, picnic areas, walking trails, and a dog park. Visitors appreciate the shaded seating and convenient parking at the dog park. Additionally, the park offers activities like Zumba classes with an enthusiastic instructor named Exzetta. It's a great place for families to enjoy outdoor activities and celebrate special occasions like birthdays.
Park is beautiful. Beautiful play structure for children. How can We get funding to cover all the play structures. Thanks to nature, during the summer, the sun is too invasive.

I used to sleep here at night after I was warned NOT to return to my first "shared housing" roommate experience left me OUT IN THE COLD. I can appreciate the same people who helped me KEEP MY WITS TOGETHER still showing up every now and again. The memories about the pet vaccinations the park held. Or thinking about how many people in the community would come here at night particularly to gather & enjoy kindness the presence my daughter brought with her beautiful smile. To the opportunity for me to get out into the community so I could begin socializing and integrate into a place that still has so many others. I have a few pictures of the only reason I even stop by or walk through. He's always got a GREAT story to tell me. He always welcomed me with a hug. I can count on him to not be secretive nor messy about keeping it honest, real and straightforward. "Keep coming back!" It means alot to me that I could look forward to going to the park to see him. No matter what and he don't even know it. A familiar face and a hug goes such a long way for me so this park is great! Memories to let go of so I can grow! American Heroes Park- a place where I can be me.

Nice park! But too many homeless!!! Smoking and you can’t even use the restrooms because the homeless are inside doing drugs and smoking weed
Antonio T — Google review
Very nice park lots of room the only issue is the homeless and drug activities going. They do it next to the playground area. Also some people allow their dogs to play on the field area and use the restroom instead of taking them to the dog park area designated for dogs. It's hard to workout when you have dogs running around instead of being in their area.
Jeronne S — Google review
Lots of homeless around. The best thing about it is the football field for the kids
Hasani B — Google review
Awesome for kids and dogs
Lexi M — Google review
My dogs first birthday celebration held here.
Patrick C — Google review
I can only speak about the dog park as I haven't tried out the other facilities. It's nice to have a dog park on this side of town and I appreciate the size and that there's shade and seating. The parking is convenient too! The large dog side is rarely occupied. The small dog side has a few more visitors but it doesn't get filled. Overall it's a nice little park but perhaps the city should advertise it more or host a bark at the park event or something so that it gets used more. I haven't been there in the evenings so I don't know about lighting but I hope it's plentiful.

Great renovated park: new playground, benches, picnic tables and grills. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING! A HOMELESS, CRAZY MAN WAS PUTTING HIS MOUTH ON THE DRINKING STATION AT THE PARK! I am not sure if they clean it. Please bring your own water instead.
Frank B — Google review
Park is right next to elementary school field. There is some exercise equipment as with a variety of playground equipment. There does happen to be some grafiti sometimes and homeless people who stay there. The restrooms aren't always open but there are some some bbq spots and picnic benches. There is also some damage in the shade roofing that could be considered unsafe
Kimberly M — Google review
One of the parks my daughter loves to visit. It’s usually pretty clean. I wish they would clean the yellow slide though. It’s so dirty and the wood part of the playground has spider webs so be careful. But it’s a nice little park to play at.
Sarai L — Google review
The playground is nice. There wasn’t ever many people there when we went. The wooden structure needs upkeep. It gave the kids splinters every time they played on it. Every single time they ended up with splinters. There is sand and seating. The park also had some grass areas and fitness equipment. Didn’t use the bathroom so I don’t know what condition they were in.
Rebekah B — Google review
Lots of shady places, and they try to keep it up. Not bad
Kurt — Google review
Nice quiet little park with a decent playground. Lives on the corner of a elementary school block. Picnic tables and grills for BBQ. An exercise trail with equipment to get in shape! Park is fenced in well so the little ones can run freely without much fear of them running out into the streets. Cool little park.
Brett P — Google review
Nice and peaceful place to visit. Basketball Court and a huge play are perfect places for families and friends to have a good time. BBQ's are convenient near the covered picnicking area. I've seen many Birthday parties there too! And for those fitness concerned people, the path around the park has exercise equipment to use as you visit the park.
Dizzydean G — Google review
Very beautiful and clean spacious park. And the indoor Eastside pool is good. But showers need towel hooks and soap holders like a shelving unit in showers plus more curtains for privacy in showers.
