Nestled in Tamworth, the Oxley Scenic Lookout offers an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the city and Peel River Valley. Accessible by vehicle or a moderate hike, this lookout provides a stunning 180-degree vista that stretches for kilometers. It's a great spot for family outings, picnics, and barbecues while enjoying the magnificent sunset. The well-maintained trails make for an enjoyable journey to the summit where visitors are greeted with breathtaking views.
Multiple viewing areas on different levels, picnic areas with tables, and disabled access. Public toilets and water on-site. The very best place for a break on your travels, plenty of parking available to suit different configurations of vehicle. Sunset and evening are magnificent and could seal the deal with that special significant other;)

Breathtaking Views and a Peaceful Escape – A Must-Visit in Tamworth Oxley Scenic Lookout is truly one of Tamworth’s hidden gems. Perched high above the town, the lookout offers breathtaking panoramic views that stretch across the Peel Valley and beyond. Whether you visit at sunrise, sunset, or any time in between, the landscape is nothing short of spectacular and gives you a whole new appreciation for the natural beauty of the region. What makes this spot even more special is how peaceful and well-maintained it is. There are picnic tables, grassy areas, walking trails, and plenty of space to sit, relax, and take in the scenery. It’s perfect for a quick scenic stop or a leisurely afternoon with friends or family. There’s also an easy-to-navigate walking track nearby that winds through native bushland and offers a refreshing connection to nature. The lookout is accessible by car, with ample parking and clean facilities. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Tamworth, Oxley Scenic Lookout is well worth the short drive up the hill. It’s a place to slow down, take a deep breath, and enjoy the serenity. Bring a coffee, a camera, or just yourself — you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended

Playground
Fun & Games
Park
Tamworth Regional Playground is a must-visit for families with kids. The playground offers various play areas, including water play, climbing structures, and giant slides to keep the little ones entertained for hours. Additionally, there are picnic spots and barbecue facilities available. Adjacent to the playground is the Hopscotch cafe where parents can grab a coffee and a bite to eat. The soft fall covering makes it safe for kids to play, but some suggest adding more restroom facilities or expanding the existing ones.
One of the best playgrounds I’ve visited, great for both kids and adults. Nice cafe close by, water play area and some mammoth slides/play equipment!
Georgia C — Google review
My 3 years old was so busy playing in this playground. He wasn’t happy at all when it was home time. There are variety of activities suitable for younger children to older ones. I highly recommend this place to all the parents.
Pragati K — Google review
Really enjoyed our visit here. Has been several years since we had the opportunity to walk down this way on our trip to Tamworth. This was definitely a nice surprise. Not sure if the Cafe is doing as well as it could according to local reports but didn't get the time to sit and make our own decisions on this though. Beautiful spot all the same and striking distance to Peel St to pick up whatever other foods for a picnic. Fabulous venue for the kids to explore outdoor activities. Such a range to experience. Even an outdoor activity section to use body weight equipment to improve your fitness levels. So good. Kids could spend a good few hours here as the parents wanted to BBQ or just relax. Plenty of man made shade and trees. A bit of history at the other end of the park with more clean public toilets available there.
Chris R — Google review
It's definitely one of the best playground and kids friendly nature parks in Australia! Our boys love it so much! Highly recommend for families with small and/or big kids!
Cathy M — Google review
Absolutely fabulous park. We came across it when waiting on our new car. Spaces for all aged kids to explore, unique equipment, cool sandpit. There are bbqs, plenty of shaded areas. Even a cafe on site for the adults or kids with meals, snacks, coffee, etc. You can either eat in the restaurant or take away to the park. Further along there was also an exercise area with fixed equipment. Great space to stop if travelling with kids and need a break.
Suzan W — Google review
What an incredible park and playground for kids, playing along with a forest of millions of Bat - flying fox. Slogan on board says "living with flying fox" Lots of playground set up with giant fun slides, swings and flying fox ~ super popular Don't forget the amazing looking and popular cafe on site next to playground. Tons of 3P Parking next to the park available with disability parking as well. Strongly recommended.
Gary C — Google review
Wow what a great playground! More than that, it's like someone said 'pick all your favourite things about every modern playground and put them in one place'. It has a Cafe, undercover picnic tables, sand pit, equipment for all ages, water play area, street parking, shade, great landscaping and green spaces. Great work Tamworth council. I want one of these in Wollongong!

Wildlife park featuring an interactive kangaroo enclosure & walk-in bird aviary, plus a playground.
My 2 and 6 year old had a blast here in the school holidays, there was so much for them to do in the playground area and I was very impressed to see that my 2 year old could go on a lot of the equipment without any help, I would 1000% bring my kids back here it was phenomenal.

Such a nice spot the kids park is amazing for all ages must go if your looking for something to do while in tamworth along with the look out

Nice place to see some animals and entry is free, a lot of the exhibits weren't open for us 🥲👍
Tj T — Google review
Lots of animals to see free entry. My kids loved the playground. The playground had a flying fox, slides anything you could think of. Our favourite bit was the birds. The cockertoos could talk and there was a funny bird that was swinging from a swing they had set up. Overall great place for a family.
Jessica J — Google review
Free entry, Picnic Tables, BBQs. Great little place for the kids, it has a playground the kids will love. You can walk into the bird aviary and the kangaroo grounds. We up very close to a peacock.
Lynda — Google review
This place was absolutely amazing, and completely free! The animals looked very well looked after, and you could see kangaroos, emus, peacocks and a wide array of different birds. We arrived early and the park was almost empty and there was lots to see and explore. There's several walks and many enclosures and you could easily spend several hours here. The children's playground was amazing too and definitely worth a visit!
Kerbray — Google review
Beautiful park only a 5min drive from the Main Street of Tamworth. It’s free entry and has several native animals in enclosures that you can visit including an aviary, emu and kangaroo enclosure. Plenty of picnic areas in the lush and shady bushland makes it a really relaxing and enjoyable place to visit. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the outdoors.

One of the best public parks equipped with everything you may look for, for everyone in the family. Awesome for kids to run, play, explore and exercise. Great place for adults to walk, sit , catch up with family n friends or even exercise. Wonderful place for both local and visitors to Tamworth. I wish local government build this kind of park in every town.

What a lovely place to have a picnic with your family or just your lunch break. There are toilets and a plenty of seats. There is a path that goes around the park so ideal for prams, wheelchairs, elderly or disabled. At the entrance there are portraits busts of old country singers.

Wish there was an information map of where the statues were as we tried to locate them all, as the information centre was closed. However, it would be a great place to have a picnic day or night kids playground and pond that has ducks little fish and 🐢

Gardens
The Botanical Gardens in Victoria Park and Oxley Park were established in the mid-1990s and cover nearly 30 hectares. The gardens are maintained by a dedicated community group and offer various attractions such as a Japanese garden, water gardens, arid-climate plant beds, a New Zealand garden, a bush chapel, and open grassy spaces. Visitors can also explore botanical exhibitions and Aboriginal artifacts on display.
Worth a visit . Great if you have children. They have train ride for kids and you can have a picnic there .
Jean C — Google review
Much as I enjoy visiting botanic gardens of all sorts in different countries, this one is very much a work in progress. Trails lead around the site but the representation of plants is pretty ordinary. The Bush Chapel is nice when the Hymenosporum is in full bloom but I can't really recommend this place as one for you to go out of your way to visit. Finally, for the curators here: the first letter of the species name should not be capitalised on plant labels.
Martin W — Google review
We were a bit disappointed as not many flowers there needs a bit of care,a lot of weeds & no water in any of the water features, thus might be from maybe poor rain falls
Colleen H — Google review
Stunning and so tranquil. Will definitely go back!
Renae W — Google review
Beautiful but very poorly kept, couldn't even do the indigenous walk it was too overgrown. The ponds are all dried up and lots weeds throughout. Not many trees are labelled even though some do have them close to the visitors kiosk. worth a look but lower your expectations.
Chivana T — Google review
Nice gardens to visit or maybe get married 🥰
Tj T — Google review
I dunno, it wasn't... "great". The sentiment is nice, though. Personally, I fail to understand why this concept is not turned into a city as a whole. With this meticulous care and layout being translated into a blueprint for a whole city, rather than just a garden.

Nature & Parks
Lake Keepit State Park offers breathtaking sunsets and stunning water views. The clean toilets, resembling Portaloo style facilities, are a notable convenience for campers. Nestled in the bush, the site provides an idyllic camping experience that families particularly enjoy. With its proximity to the waterside, children have the opportunity to engage in canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding right in front of their camper trailers.
Fantastic views, quality rooms, friendly staff.
Bradley N — Google review
Went bush camping on the far side over Easter weekend. Very pleasant, well set up with portable loos and skip bins. There was fresh water. There were lots of other campers but still plenty of space. There were no flies or mosquitoes . Great getaway for the long weekend.
Dan B — Google review
Beautiful sunsets. Amazing water. Toilets (Portaloo style) were clean. We stayed in the bush camping and it was fanctastic. We were right next to the waters edge and the kids loved being able to canoe and standup paddle board straight out in front of our camper trailer. We also liked it as we could see the boys at all times. The weekend v8 boat heads were on the water Saturday morning at 6:30 obviously frothing. All day. The Sunday morning didn’t hear a peep out of em until around 9:30am lol. In all seriousness the boat noise wasn’t an issue for us and it wasn’t that loud, just don’t go expecting silence on a dam lol.
Christo M — Google review
Wow.! This place has everything. Playground & pool & wide open spaces for the kids and walking the dog. Camp kitchen has a big, undercover, open fire for those cool winter nights. Very relaxing. We met our fellow campers there for an impromptu social get together at 4pm. Lovely to hear all their stories. The staff are happy and very helpful. The numerous facility blocks are spotless, with separate bathrooms for parents and the disabled. The grounds are really well maintained. Glamping tents and cabins are available to rent as well as powered caravan sites with slabs for awning or annex and unpowered tent sites. The lake is beautiful and so restful, sit in the sun and read a book. Use your phone or camera to take keepsakes of the sunrises or sunsets or what you and the family got up to while here.... you will want to stay a few extra days as we did.
KERRIE-ANN H — Google review
What a beautiful calming peaceful place. It was a perfect weekend - mostly because my partner proposed overlooking the lake! But also because the location is stunning and ammenties clean. The park is well kept and access made easy.
Tracey T — Google review
A sad site to see, almost 60 years after opening to see it like this😲😖😢😭 2016 it was 97% full, now after governments mismanagement, sold the water to ??? Now it is less than 1%. An historical day to see the homestead , graves that have been under water all these years. Hoping to see it at the height of the dam walls again🎯

Great place. Facilities are everything you need to camp off grid but still have the need for a shower or toot. Kiosk is pretty good for food and fishing gear

I went here for the walking track...I'm 66 so a bit past the mountain bikes but what a wonderful place for our young people! As for the walk...what a wonderful 2 hours I spent wandering through the bush! I hadn't planned to go walking but was enticed by the wind rustling in the breeze, the birds twittering, the frogs calling and the lure of chasing butterflies. Regenerating. No wonder it was a significant place for the Gamilaraay people, perhaps for thousands of years, it is beautiful.
Jennifer W — Google review
Just a short distance from town centre, the park offers a good range of trails across difficulty levels. The picnic area with bathrooms is a nice touch also. Well done for those who initiated and maintain the park.

Great local track a short ride from town. Worth a visit and well maintained and something for every skill set.
Nick G — Google review
Great facility, bit of everything from kids playground, skills section and big kids xco loops.
Ben M — Google review
Great little skills park area which includes seesaws. The signage throughout the park is near on non existent which made it hard to know what was where. Trails were under construction also. Rough and gnarly terrain which kept you on your toes. I do not recommend doing unplanned ground inspections here! 😂 clean and Well maintained amenities
