1Yakushima Island

Island
Yakushima Island is a serene destination known for its subtropical climate and ancient cedar forests, making it a perfect spot for peaceful mountain hikes. The island's untouched wilderness has inspired many, including renowned composer Hisaishi Joe. Visitors are encouraged to rent a car to explore the World Natural Heritage site and experience the simple island life. With various shops offering mountain supplies, hikers can embark on unforgettable treks through the last wild hiking paradise in Japan.
One of those places that magic you away from the rest of the world. Incredible views of clouds over mountains, forests, cliffs and heaps of deer and monkeys. A car is a must! I recommend the travel company YES Yakushima. They make everything very easy and will organise your car, ferry and accommodation if you want it (free service). The car through them was $350aud ishh for 5 days. We spent 5 days, did the Jomon Sugi hike and part of the Shiratani Unsuikyo trail, do Jomon Sugi but don't underestimate it. Food around is great when the restaurants are open, very friendly and helpful locals. Also recommend the kayak tour!

I loved this beautiful place, real nature. Everything is expensive but it doesn't matter this place is amazing with beautiful mountains, fruit farm and waterfalls as well.
Avegail T — Google review
This island stole my heart and took my breath away. Hard to put into words how incredible the nature here is. Theres just gorgeous view after gorgeous view at every corner. All of the people we met on the island were the kindest human beings ever. I didn‘t want to leave and wish i couldve stayed here forever. I hope the island never changes and the people on it will keep protecting and nurturing the nature and animals here.
L S — Google review
I highly recommend visiting this island. One of the best destinations to hike and roam around, the secluded nature setting is just very heart warming. The waterfalls are amazing, the people are really kind. This island is famous for the UNESCO, world heritage, and has the oldest cedar tree in Japan! Better to rent a car and drive around, it rains very often so please have all the gear needed for very heavy rain, just to be safe! Don’t forget to try the flying fish!
Jane — Google review
A real nature wonderland, to be explored by CAR ! do not plan a trip there if you can't drive, buses are so sparse it's extremely hard to plan anything, no way to complete a trail in the given time between rides. IF you have a lot of money, a local phone, and can speak japanese, you might be able to get taxis. Don't expect help from the locals, who couldn't care less about tourism, barely anyone can speak a word of english, including in the tourist centers. Some restaurants or hotels might have lovely people that can help you out, otherwise don't even expect an eye contact with the locals. there's no hub or activities where you could meet other tourists to organise something in group, come alone only if you are very comfortable with solitude. plan very well ahead, if you want a guide it must be booked weeks in advance, you can't arrive there and improvise.
Julien R — Google review
It’s been over a year since we visited the island, and we still look back on our time there with wonderful memories. We often find ourselves wondering when we’ll have the chance to return.
Tobias E — Google review
Mountains, forests, beaches, rivers - what else could you ask for? The perfect escape from city life, do spend at least 3 days on this beautiful island.
Viraf P — Google review
This Island is very-well know for UNESCO world heritage and Moss forest, everywhere it is green and thick, good place to escape from all your stress, not crowded countryside with limited buses where you could have new experience, it is worth a visit just try once

Nestled in the lush landscapes of Yakushima, Jōmon Sugi stands as a majestic testament to nature's endurance, believed to be Japan's oldest tree. This ancient cypress, with its impressive trunk measuring over 16 meters in circumference, draws countless pilgrims eager to connect with its storied past. The journey to this natural wonder often begins on the Okabu Trail, where hikers navigate through enchanting moss forests that inspired renowned filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki’s 'Princess Mononoke.'
It took me 6.5 hours to hike it. It’s not that difficult but not too easy either. If you go I recommend taking a taxi service with a group of people instead of taking the bus . The taxi costed 6k yen from anbo. We took the bus orginally at 4:40 am and then you need to take another bus at the museum which often had a long queue.
Kelly M — Google review
The hike there is great, but this magnificent, ancient tree is some thing you look at an say " wow, ...ok". It is impressive but a huge old tree has limited appeal. "The journey there, is more important than the destination"
Vincent O — Google review
Jomon sugi is just a big tree, you cannot even touch it. There are viewing decks 50meters away from the tree. What made the 10hour trek worth it is the breathtaking sceneries along the trek. Every rest, I can’t stop saying it’s so beautiful here.. Straight out of the fairytale book. Pictures don’t do justice. The view is so inspiring. I understand why Hayao Miyazaki got inspired by the forest and used it in his works. The trek is easy. There are stairs and paths that are easy to follow. 100m pass the Jomon sugi is a small house/ a camping house where people can stay overnight. It’s free. No staff. There is a tent toilet near it. The las bus from the trail entrance is 5:45pm so it’s advisable to get there early.
Red — Google review
For the forest bathers and tree enthusiasts, Jomon Sugi is like having ambrosia injected straight into the veins. You will experience the sublime. The hike itself is quite easy as 70% is on a set track. If you're a more experienced hiker, you will find this more annoying than enjoyable as it is difficult to pass people in groups. Once you get to the back 30% it becomes more invigorating, although partially all tracked, mostly wooden steps. That said, it is gorgeous landscape and forest, so you being able to turn off your brain to watch around you without considering your foot placement is a decent exchange for the loss of intensity. Time needed: I drew 6 sketches on the way up, it took about 5 hours and my hike back was 2 hours 20 minutes. Transport: For in season, bus schedules are not the same as online currently. You have to take the bus before 5:40 (5:40 being the last bus now) If you miss the bus you can sometimes order a taxi (which I ended up taking for ¥6,000.) Expensive, BUT I did have a delayed start and had the trail to myself for about 60% of it until I caught up to the other groups. Truly magical. Water: You can refill along the way, Yakushima water is safe to drink from the mountain. Bathrooms: there are some operating bathrooms at the very start and the transition point from rail track to stairs area. There is also portable toilet you need to have a bathroom bag with to use. Bring food! All over Yakushima you can buy a bento to take with you. I regret only having baked goods, fruit, and snack bars. There are a lot of stops to be able to eat and it would have been dreamy to have eaten a whole, rejuvenating meal versus snacks along the way.
August H — Google review
A hike that many may consider to be the most popular on the island. Definitely can be done within 6-8 hours, and without a tour guide. Highly advise starting around 5-6:00 in the morning just to be safe. Tickets for the bus ride to the starting point can be bought at the bottom parking lot. Most of the hike is straightforward, while the last mile and a bit gets a bit steeper and tougher. Bring some snacks and beverages for hydration as there are rest stops a long the way and places to go sit down and eat at the top (please remember to take your trash home!!). Beautiful and breath-taking, rain or shine, an absolute must experience for all.
Matt K — Google review
A challenging hike, depending on your starting point. But it feels like an incredible to make it there. It's a beautiful hike. More amazing than my pictures could capture.
Tony B — Google review
Beautiful 8-10hr trail to and from Jomon Sugi. Whilst impressive, the tree shouldnt be the main attraction. Make sure you enjoy the walk and soak in the surreal forest energy. Almost mystical.

Mt. Miyanoura, the highest mountain on Yakushima at 1,936 meters above sea level, offers breathtaking 360º views and a rich history shaped by volcanic activity. The pyroclastic flow from its eruption wiped out the Jomon period culture in southern Kyushu and affected the island's flora and fauna for around 500 years. Hiking trails like Yodogawa-tozanguchi provide challenging routes with stunning vistas of the island and Pacific Ocean.
awesome trail to mt miyanoura. we took the 1st bus to yodogawa trailhead and started the hike around 10.30am, only reaching the summit around 3pm. there were several parts on the trail that will require going down/up using the ropes provided. after yodogawa hut, we didnt see any water points until shin-takatsuka hut.
Ian P — Google review
Amazing views of the island, clouds, and neighboring mountains. Totally worth the all day journey up and down.
Joshua S — Google review
The highest point on island Yakushima and also in Kyushu area. The trail is very natural but easily visible. While it takes durability and strength to take to the submit in 1 day, there is no danger involved. The rewards are the lovely animals such as deers and historical trees you can meet all along. And also the openness of the mountain range. Most amazingly, the phone reception is superb on the top despite you are some miles away from Civilization.
Wapril — Google review
Left home (south of yakushima) around 530am for yodogawa trail and started my hike at 640am. It took me 5 hours to reach the summit and another 5 hours back to the start point. The climate in November is pretty cold and there were snow (~3cm high?) nearing the summit. Nevertheless, I've enjoyed myself!
Neo W — Google review
A summit above 1800m at one of the final high-points about as far as you can imagine. A place to celebrate your accomplishments, reflect on how you got here, and most importantly, decide where to go next. May many more conquer it.

Yakusugi Land in Yakushima is a haven for nature lovers and hikers. The trails wind through dense forests, alongside mossy streams, and feature wooden walkways and bridges. This area is perfect for beginners with a 30-minute course showcasing the unique Yakusugi cedars. One of the highlights is the gigantic Wilson's stump, resembling a heart when viewed from inside.
Great place with trails for all levels. Was great for me as I ruptured my ACL skiing a month ago, so had to stay away from the steeper unpaved trails but still had a lovely experience. Carpark wasn’t large although it wasn’t crowded so managed to park. Had a resthouse at the entrance with gift shop and decent toilets ¥100 donation
M S — Google review
Yakusugi Land is a natural forest park located, featuring ancient Yakusugi cedar trees, many over 1,000 years old. What I liked was the range of hiking trails—from easy 30-minute walks to longer 3-hour treks. The trails are well-maintained and wind through lush, mossy forests filled with old-growth cedars, fallen logs, and diverse plant life. Two buses travel to the park entrance, starting at Gochomae stop 62.
Vincent O — Google review
My family enjoyed hiking the trails at Yakusugi Land. Although my daughters are quite young (5 and 7 years old), the trails were clearly marked and not too difficult for them. During the hike, we saw many beautiful gorges and ancient cedar trees, some of which are over 1,000 years old. I would recommend going early in the morning, as the tree cover provides natural shade, keeping you cool while you hike.
Mark R — Google review
There were no spiders this high up so even if you are nervous about walking through the bush with spiders - this is a good place to go. The 50 minute walk was more like 30 minutes and was very cool - if I was doing it again I would do the longer 80 minute trail.
Sarah A — Google review
Good way to see the depth of the natural first including some millenarian cedars without heavy hiking. It's good if you have younger kids or can't hike for multiple hours in the forest
Colin M — Google review
A magical place and everything is well marked. I did the 210 min trail solo and it wasn’t overly strenuous. Some parts are a little bit technical or tricky, but not too bad. If you’re short on time, the 150 min trail seems just as good as the 210 min one. Saw maybe 10 other hikers, and I went on a Saturday.
Mitsuko N — Google review
Amazing old growth forest, but with evidence of the felling of some large cypress trees during the Meiji era. Giant trees, moss, busy rivulets and a gushing river beneath make this a sacred and awe-inspiring walk. Well-maintained walkway and clear signs and maps make it easy to walk however you want. It will bring the Shinto or Druid out in you.

The Kigensugi Cedar is a celebrated and venerable tree that is estimated to be around 3,000 years old. It can be easily spotted from the forest boardwalk or along the winding road leading down from Yakusugiland. This majestic cedar tree is considered an imposing sight due to its size, and visitors are urged to take time out of their schedules to visit this fantastic tourist attraction in Japan.
Great to see if you couldn't get to the Jomon Sugi tree. 🚌 Getting there: If you're taking the bus, I would recommend going directly before or after Yakusugi Land. The bus will stop at this stop for 18-ish minutes. You can get off the bus, walk down the steps, see this tree, and walk back to the bus and get on before it does its U-turn to go back to Yakusugi Land and finally Anbo. You don't need to spend more than the 18 minutes here, and walking to/from Yakusugi Land is kind of a waste because the point is to walk INside Yakusugi Land.
Stephanie ( — Google review
It's a large tree close to the road. Takes around 15 or so minutes to reach down a windy road from Yakusugiland
Mathew F — Google review
Totally not worth it, can’t see much beyond another thick Cedar. I would suggest doing the hiking tours instead or Tomonguchi that’s quite impressive
Pedro C — Google review
It was cool to see but maybe not worth the extra drive time when you can see similarly impressive trees walking around yakasugi land

Isso Beach is a stunning destination with its white sand, lush green mountains in the backdrop, and crystal-clear waters that rival those of Okinawa. The bay offers calm waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling, with opportunities to spot fish when swimming towards Mt. Yahazudake. During summer, it serves as a venue for open water swimming competitions. Visitors can rent snorkels and flotation devices at nearby shops.
Awesome beach. Tons of parking, facilities, helpful lifeguards, and good shower / changing station.
Joshua S — Google review
The beach itself is a bit dirty and has rocks that make it hard to walk. Scenic view of cliffside and mountains, I imagine it’s much nicer on a sunny day. We went for a snorkel, a little bit of coral lots of it dead, also some oil in the water which made it hard to see sometimes however there was plentiful bright coloured fish and it was a nice snorkel anyways. We were hoping to see a turtle but no luck
Scarlett M — Google review
Nice clean beach with showers, lockers, and an eating area. They put a net up to where you can swim and have attentive lifeguards, so I'd say it's pretty safe. Turtles nest here though, so be careful of the fenced out areas so that you don't disturb them!
Lasmyr — Google review
Great beach - summer holidays they have lifesavers. There is a bit of a drop off about 5-8 meters from the shore, but it an all sand bottom.

Great beach and most people’s preference since it’s more famous, but I highly recommend Inakahama’s beach. It also has sea turtles and snorkeling spots, minus the crowd - and it’s more beautiful. There’s also a tofu factory near it, which is a great lunch spot

In early May, the ascent to Tachudake mountain peak offers a challenging yet rewarding experience. Beyond Yakusugi Land, the forest becomes sparser and shade is scarce, exposing hikers to intense sunlight and high temperatures. While some sections require climbing steep slopes with ropes, even beginners can manage with patience and caution. From the summit's massive rock formation, one can enjoy a delightful view of Anbo port. The path itself follows fallen trees, adding an interesting element to the journey.
(Translated by Google) This mountain is famous for Tenshu-seki, a gigantic 40-meter-high monolith that rises to the top of the mountain at an altitude of 1,497 meters. Yakushima was created tens of thousands of years ago when the ocean floor was pushed up by a volcanic eruption, and Yakushima is made up of gigantic granite rocks. I should have been somewhat immune to megaliths, but I was still impressed by the megaliths of Mt. Taichudake. To reach Mt. Tachu, we depart from Yakusugi Land's 150-minute course and pass through many beautiful forests following the signboards. Along the way, you will be surprised by the sheer size of the Yaku cedar and granite. However, only a few of them had names; most of them were nameless. The forest with its moist air is reminiscent of the Ghibli world, but it wasn't always an easy course with steep climbs and steep climbs and occasional ropes. From the top of the mountain, which I reached while out of breath, I had a panoramic view of Awa village and the Pacific Ocean! It took us 3 hours + 1 hour compared to the standard time, but on this day we could see all the way to Tanegashima, and the view was so spectacular that all the fatigue from climbing was wiped away.

A moderately difficult hike that took us 7 hours to complete. A good option if you want to summit a mountain in less than 10km (out and back). There is a bathroom at the beginning of the hike and a stall one-third of the way through for wag bag use. Once you leave Yakisugi Land, the hike is mostly a steep ascent on a fairly well marked path. Some rope sections near the top. The summit of Tachudake provides a great 170-degree view of the national park.

(Translated by Google) I climbed it in early May. After passing Yakusugi Land, the trees were sparse, there was not much shade, and the sun was strong, so it was very hot. There are some steep slopes and sections where you have to climb ropes, but I think even beginners can climb it if they take their time. The view from the huge rock at the top (?) was very pleasant. I could clearly see the port of Awa. It was an interesting course with the road running over fallen trees. On the way back, I saw the rock of Mt. Ohko Waterfall is a picturesque and enchanting natural wonder located in Yakushima. Access to this breathtaking sight is easy, with only a short 2-minute walk from the car park. Visitors can get very close to the falls and even jump across rocks to experience it up close. The waterfall splits into three large falls, making it the biggest one around.
I took the bus there. You need to make sure that you get on the correct bus because they go to different locations. It will be the last stop on the bus and after you have 40 min until the next bus arrives . Waterfall is top 100 in Japan. And it’s definitely impressive

Wilson's Stump is a popular tourist destination located in Yakushima, Japan. This location boasts a stunning moss-covered sugi tree stump with an opening shaped like a heart, making it a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy the trails nearby and take in the serene sounds of spring water flowing within the broken cedar. The stump also houses a small shrine inside for visitors to explore. Additionally, this area offers opportunities to encounter local wildlife such as Yakushima monkeys while hiking.
Very cool, enormous stump of what must of been a massive tree. The only problem is there is a set number of busses to the trail so all the tourists hiking arrive at about the same time. So prepare to walk as fast as possible to blow past everyone else if you want to arrive to take pictures without anyone else around.

Drum Rock (Taiko-iwa) is a massive granite rock located at around 1,050 meters above sea level within Shiratani Unsuikyo Ravine. The trail to reach it is filled with moss-covered boulders and offers stunning mountain views. The hike takes about 4 hours round trip and includes a fairly steep slope, making it suitable for those who enjoy a challenge. Despite the physical exertion, the breathtaking scenery from the top makes it all worth it.
I would say it is definitely worth it! We went with a guide, and although the trail to it is long and your knees will probably feel the strain by the end of your hike(we didn't take walking sticks). It was a very amazing surprise. We went when it was raining 🌧 and it was windy at the top but the view is absolutely amazing when you're there. It was a wow moment, and we saw some sakura trees at the top, so if you go late March, you will probably see a more colorful view. I'm definitely planning to be back, hopefully when it's sunny. Oh, and the rock, yeah, if you bang it with the palm of your hand, it kinda makes a drum sound. Try it if you go. It's a long hike, so if you wanna take your time, I'd probably head out early in the morning. We saw some monkeys on the drive to the trail and, on the trail, saw a deer. Apparently, the locals said only in yakushima do monkeys ride the 🦌 deer.

Lovely view from the rock. Very small open space and no railing. Signs and trail for the rock are not very clear /only in japanese, had to follow the pink tape. I started my hike from shiratani enterance (500yen fee to get in), took approx 2hr to gets here in the heavy rain. Other wise the rest of the trail is labeled clearly at each intersetion and at intersections only. Beautiful route, my cellphone pictures doesnt do it justice. Fair bit of elevation so beginners beware. Saw lots of solo hikers on the way. I totally recommend this place!

A complex containing a museum of Yakushima cedar logging, conservation centre, cafe and a small park. The museum has a lovely atmosphere the entire interior appears to be done in cedar tiling. Several interactive pieces and videos showing the history of Yakushima's wood + a temporary exhibition hall (there was a photography contest for next year's calendar when I went). Small gift shop with books, postcards and wooden goods. Didn't have time to get anything from the cafe but the interior is lovely!

Italian restaurant
Nestled on the picturesque Yakushima Island, Il Mare is a delightful culinary gem that specializes in Italian cuisine with a unique twist. This charming restaurant offers an array of seafood dishes sourced from the surrounding waters, alongside mouthwatering pasta and pizza crafted with local venison. The menu showcases casual Italian fare made from fresh, local ingredients that are simply irresistible.
Stayed 2 nights at yakushima, had dinner here the first night and decided we had to come back for one of the loveliest, fluffiest and lightest pizza doughs I've ever had. It also has a lovely amount of chewiness Stars of the show are the Cameron special pizza (local venison with gorgonzola) and... The coffee! Chef says the coffee beans are imported from Naples Italy. The coffee was fragrant and very smooth. Also liked the ravioli with local kurobuta, and the nonna cake also with gelato from Italy. Chef is fluent in English. I would come back to dine here in a heartbeat!

Best Italian food we had on our Japan trip this time! Pasta was al dente, sauce from bolognese with local deer meat was to die for, squid ink pasta with really fresh vegetables and local flying fish! Dolce was amazing too with lemon pound cake and Italian gelato! Eating here was an amazing experience. The chef uses local, fresh ingredients that are very high quality. You can taste the love and effort he has put into learning how to create the perfect pizza/italian food. My partner had the bolognese and raved about how tasty it was as well. The chef speaks perfect english and we regret going here on our last day in Yakushima as we wish we could return for more. Highly recommend!!!!

Absolutely delicious pizza/pasta/dessert - and what a beautiful view! The pizza was better than the vast majority of pizza I've had in London, the marinara was beautifully cooked. We loved the chef, and really appreciated him replying to our reservation email, which was written very poorly via Google Translate!

We went for lunch on a weekend over Golden Week so we knew there was going to be a line. We arrived around noon and got seated around 1pm. Various kinds of pizza, a few pasta dishes, desserts and other side dishes to choose from. We tried the venison pizza, which was pretty good! The ravioli was not what we were expecting, it was okay, nothing spectacular. The pizza in general had a bit too much crust in my opinion, which fills you up pretty quickly. That being said, probably one of the best food options in Yakushima.
Elly H — Google review
Wow! Was blown away by the food at Il Mare. We were craving Italian food and we’re very happy to spot this place after a long morning hike. We had the Margherita and the deer meat pizza (which I tried because so many people recommended it) and it was amazing. I expected the flavour to be quite strong but the chef balanced it so beautifully with truffle and the pizza base was also delicious it has been one of the best pizzas I have eaten to date. The staff were also very welcoming and accommodating providing an English menu and the chef even came out and we made sure to tell him the food was delicious. Thanks for having us!
Victoria U — Google review
Amazing little pizza place and an unexpected find! The pasta also looked quite good here based on what we saw others ordering, though we didn’t try it ourselves. Great place to also try the local venison, which was delicious. We found the owner to be very nice and able to speak English very well. It did take a bit of time, so be sure you can spare about an hour or so for your meal.
David J — Google review
Great neopolitan-style pizzas with local flavor twists. We had the pumpkin sauce pizza with local fish and onion and it was absolutely scrumptious. Owner was very considerate and says he's mostly self taught! Unexpected find and turned out to be a great first meal in Yakushima for us. Also if you love propeller planes, you'll have a first class seat to watching the lift-off and landings of classic planes as the restaurant is located right by the airport with a view of the landing strip. the soft buzzing is a bonus. Extra tip: Order the local Yakushima beer, it's seriously delicious - and we usually don't feel that way about beer. 💛🍕🛫💛

Hiking area
Arakawa Trail Start is a popular starting point for the Jomon Sugi hiking trail, offering access to the majestic natural beauty of the area. The trail can be challenging, with some sections featuring bridges without fences and potential icy conditions in winter. The bus stop nearby provides convenient access, but it's advisable to plan for crowds during peak seasons. Despite the challenges, hikers are rewarded with stunning scenery and possible wildlife encounters along the way.
You can drive your own car to the trailhead from Nov-March. We went in mid-February, got to the trailhead around 6:30am, and there were plenty of parking spaces. There are about 10 parking spots in total. A lot of snow in mid-February!! ❄️❄️ We went on Feb.16th and unfortunately did not make it to Jomon Sugi. We started around 6:50am. The trail/train track was covered in snow from the beginning, and it was about 1-2ft deep about 2 miles in. It was not very cold, but the deep snow made trekking pretty hard. We hiked for about 5 miles till Niou Sugi, before the strep incline. The group of hollers in front of us had a guide with them, and they decided to turn back. We asked them if it is safe to hike to Jomon Sugi; they seem a little hesitant citing the deep snow, so we decided to turn back as well. All in all, it was a good experience. Very quite and beautiful woods; we saw less than 10 people in total. We did not know there would be so much snow at all, so make sure you come prepared! We drove all the way to Arakawa trailhead and parked there.
Jia Y — Google review
Avoid when crowded! Make sure you plan your trip if you need to take the bus. Otherwise the trail is amazing, going to Jōmon-Sugi and back is easily doable in 8 hours if you are fit. The first part of the trail, following the train track, is really easy, the only dangerous parts are the bridges without handrails. The second part is steep and the terrain is rough, good shoes are definitely needed here.
Quentin L — Google review
If you want to take a bus back to the museum on a busy day be there at least 45 mins in advance! They fill up fast.. not what you want after a 9 hour hike- to wait another hour and a half
Chantal — Google review
An absolutely magical hike, a sole reason to visit the island. A must do activity. You need to take the buss up to the star, which goes from the Yakusugi Museum. You can purchase the ticket here, or at any of the info centers before. The buss leaves early in the morning (5-6am) and the hike is estimated to take 8-10 hours back and forth to the Jōmon Sugi tree. We, as fit people, did the hike in less than 6 hours, and we didn't even try that hard to rush it, even tho it's a pretty hard hike half way in.
Philip S — Google review
The hike is very nice, but sadly get crowded. The best part the nature itself. The worst: the awful bus company, charging Y3000pp, absurd schedule assuming wrong hike time, then not respecting their own schedule, getting a hundred+ to wait an hour+ for their bus to arrive... No car allowed, no taxi. This monopoly should be sued for fraud.

Nestled along the scenic mountain trail leading to Mt. Miyanoura, the Shin-Takatsuka Hut stands out as a favored stop for hikers embarking on overnight adventures. This charming one-story hut features a unique two-level interior that can accommodate up to 30 guests comfortably, making it an ideal resting spot after a long trek. With its spacious design and wide eaves, visitors can easily change out of wet gear without getting soaked—a thoughtful touch for those caught in unpredictable weather.
Very neat hut nearby Jomon cedar. Very good facility with fresh water nearby. There are bio-decompose toilets. Outside dining area. But there is no phone reception.

We used the hut after the hike over mt Miyanoura. Because we started late, we came in late, around 7PM. The hut was full, and it was on a random wednesday in May. We squeezed our 2 mats into the pathway and were able to spend the night. There were already people asleep around 5PM and the first alarms went off around 3.15AM... Facilities were OK, toilet very gross in the morning.

(Translated by Google) There are about 40 divided spaces inside the room. I wonder if I'll do my best and put about 20 tensions in the tent area. Water and toilets nearby Since there are no manned mountain huts, we use evacuation huts, but during the busy season, we quickly run out of space. Tour guide or dedicated staff? came to take up a place, and a different person (customer?) was sleeping than the person who had taken up the place in the first place. Therefore, it seems necessary to bring a tent. (Translated by Google) This is a mountain hut along the mountain trail from Jomonsugi to Mt. Miyanoura. It was a beautiful hut with a wide eave, which was helpful because I could change out of my raincoat without getting wet. The structure inside is like a second floor or loft. Golden Week seems to be extremely crowded, but right after Golden Week opened, perhaps due to the bad weather, there were only about 4 groups and it was empty, so I was able to use it comfortably. It's best to store food securely and hang it up as mice will come out. I was told that even if I put it in a bag, it would get chewed up and holes would be made. There are no hooks, so it would be convenient to have a strip of about 1m. The water source is located a little far away and is a little difficult to find. It is located at the end of the wooden path for setting up tents. It was raining so hard that there was a small stream all the way there. I was told that the water was drinkable as is, but perhaps because of the rain, there was a lot of small garbage mixed in and it didn't look very clean, so I boiled it just to be safe. The toilet is also a little far away. The toilet was clean enough for a mountain hut.

Daichan House, located just outside Anbo Harbour, offers cozy Mongolian yurts equipped with modern amenities like heating, air-conditioning, free coffee and tea, and WiFi. While the owners may not speak much English, they are incredibly friendly and helpful. Mi Kun, the host, is known for his eccentric ways and humor but is extremely kind and knowledgeable about Yakushima. The guesthouse provides behind-the-scenes information about Jomon Cedar Trekking.
My partner and I had a wonderful time staying at Daichan House. The yurt (or Mongolian ger) was spacious, warm, and comfortable. The owners provided everything we could possibly need, including yu tan po (hot water bottle), tea, towels, laundry service, and even use of their kitchen. The atmosphere felt cozy and safe, while being close to everything we wanted to visit. Mikun (the owner) was friendly and spent time getting to know us, as well as offering his wealth of knowledge about Yakushima (hikes, onsens, driving advice, and more). We would love to return to stay here!
Claire B — Google review
The yurt is a very cool experience and is spacious with many facilities available, however, there are many things worth mentioning before considering booking this place. The heating in the yurt only works for 1-2 hours and then you have to insert more coins. In winter this is not convenient and the owner did not inform about the heating fee beforehand. The yurt also loses heat very quickly so you’d have to pay a lot to keep the place relatively warm in winter. There were only 1 or 2 normal pillows in the yurt, the others were filled with some sort of hard plastic that was very uncomfortable. Also, there was a cockroach in the middle of the room when waking up. What I especially did not like was the attitude of the host, who was almost obsessively involved in everything you are doing or are planning to do. He constantly wanted to be the one talking and even though he gave a lot of advise on what to visit and when, I did not feel comfortable at all, always felt like I was being watched.
Philesia M — Google review
A great host, in a great place Don't be set back by Mi Kun's eccentric ways and humour, he's the kindest host anyone could wish for! He's been so helpful, and things would have been a lot different if it wasn't for his extensive knowledge of Yakushima. So even if you came half prepared to visit this beautiful island, he will advise you and make the trip as easy as possible according to your desires. On top of that, he regularly asked us if we had any clothes to wash, he sometimes prepared us a small but delicious breakfast, and would drive us around to go grocery shopping (the supermarket is in town) or to go eat at a restaurant. The room is clean, comfortable, and spacious. We booked it in late October, and the blankets were enough for a good and warm night of sleep. Towels are provided, and just like the rooms, the shower is also clean and has hot water. It was overall a pleasant stay and I highly recommend staying there if you're looking for a different experience (it's a yurt after all!) with an experienced host. Thank you for everything Mi Kun!

Sleep in a yurt is a nice experience, the owners are really helpful and really nice and try their best to communicate with you. The kitchen is just a bit small and you share it with the owners, it's better to go out for restaurant.

(Translated by Google) I was traveling alone as a woman, but it was a very comfortable stay. My goal was to go see Jomon Cedar, so I looked for accommodations in locations convenient for hiking, and decided on this one because it was cheap and interesting. I imagined a somewhat sturdy tent, so I thought it would be cold at night and early in the morning, but it was more solidly built than I expected, and it felt like a normal room. Air conditioning is available for a fee, but I didn't use it because it was a sunny day in early May, and I personally didn't find it to be the right temperature. Inside the house, a thin long-sleeved T-shirt was just right at any time of the day. It was a little hot during the day, but there was a free circulator that was comfortable. It was also nice that there was a screen door to let in the breeze. (There were curtains so you couldn't see inside.) Other than that, the environment was perfect for staying, and I didn't have any problems. It was my first time staying without meals, so I thought the staff would be more businesslike and matter-of-fact, but I was surprised at how kind and considerate they were. When I was asked about my plans for the third day, I said that if I had the energy, I would go see the Gajumaru trees in Sarukawa. He told me that there are many Gajumaru trees growing in this area nearby, and gave me specific locations that I couldn't find on the internet. The bed was comfortable, and I felt refreshed and refreshed in the morning, and was able to enjoy the nature of Yakushima. By the way, the Gajumaru trees in Sarukawa are about a 50-minute walk from the house, but they are just as impressive as the Jomon Cedars, and an hour flew by while I was looking at them. Even though it's not a special tourist spot, the plants are dynamic and vibrant, and the island is so attractive that I went for a walk even if I was a little tired after climbing. I'm also a painter, so I'll use the photos I took this time in my paintings! I'm really glad I chose this place this time. Thank you for your hospitality. I'd like to go again.
