Shibden Hall is a historic timber-framed manor with well-preserved period rooms, restored gardens, and various attractions such as a mini-railway and a boating lake. Originally built in the medieval era, the hall underwent several renovations, resulting in its impressive Tudor timber-framed facade. The Lister family, who owned the estate for three centuries, left their mark by adding a Gothic tower housing a library and designing the surrounding park with terraced formal gardens and waterfalls.
What a fantastic place!! Absolutely loved looking round, especially after watching Gentleman Jack, which was filmed there. So much care and attention has gone into the upkeep of the house and gardens, which was a pleasure to see. Lots of really interesting and useful information all round the house. The staff were so lovely and helpful, and they have an incredible gift shop! Such fantastic value for money all round. A very special place to visit.

We enjoyed our visit to Shibden Hall. It's only a small house but is full of atmosphere. It probably took a little less than an hour to go round thoroughly. The staff were very pleasant without being in your face. Lots of information about the Hall. And, although I enjoy the story around Ann Lister, it isn't all about her. There's a lovely set up round the back of the house with some beautiful old carriages. The out buildings are set up like an apothecary, a small house, coopers, blacksmiths etc. It costs £10 for adults or £7.50 for concessions (might have had child prices too but I can't remember ). There is a small shop at the end that sells the usual novelties plus coffees and teas. I didn't see any cakes or other food on offer but there's a nice room to sit at tables and enjoy your drinks. It was a wet Thursday afternoon at the beginning of June so maybe they offer more in high season. I don't know. At the bottom of the hill, near the pond and the bottom car park, there is a very large cafe selling drinks, cakes, lunches etc. Unfortunately we had parked at the top car park. Although this is nearer to the Hall itself, it is almost half a mile downhill to the cafe from there - and uphill all the way back!!! There is disabled parking near to the house. The grounds are pleasant and there are some good footpaths marked.

Oh my god this place is incredible! My friend is a huge fan of the show Gentleman Jack and when she was visiting the UK this is the main place she wanted to visit! I'm so glad and so grateful that I was able to visit here! We spent from 11am until 2pm exploring! And we could've spent an hour longer but had to leave due to our train times. The place is incredible but please do be aware that if you're planning on walking (like my friend and I did) it is entirely uphill! Literally all of it 😂 and then going back is all downhill! Now I'm not a hiker and I've always wanted to hike but I was seriously not prepared 😅. However that being said, it was absolutely worth the trek and id love to go again (with more comfy shoes)! Highly recommend if you're a fan of Anne Lister, Gentleman Jack or just historic houses!

Absolutely amazing and fascinating period house just on the outskirts of Halifax. Spent a good few hours there but sure i didn't see everything. The house itself is truly incredible as are the staff and volunteers who make any visit a pleasure they are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the Lister family and the history of the house. Small cafe serves excellent coffee. The outbuildings are a museum in itself and definitely worth visiting. The gardens and lake offers lots of walks and stunning views of the house.

Unbelievable treasure trove of history. I only wish the tower had been open. I visited as a Brontë fan, but I'd also seen the show/ knew a little of Anne Lister. Fascinating history if morally questionable individual considering her string of partners and their numerous eventual declines to the asylum..! I couldn't believe I was witnessing items (note the plural) as old as 1500, let alone beholding them in their impressively preserved conditions. The Red Room was of special interest to me as a Brontë fan. It was magnificently eerie and Gothic. It was also fun to sit through a thunderstorm on the sill of an ancient window. Worth a visit to anyone interested in history. Also loved learning of John Lister who first deciphered Anne's diaries but kept them private, most likely out of respect, until they were found after his death. He was the founder of the Halifax Labour union, and the first treasurer of the Labour party. A socialist. Good man.

We were a small group of friends- some hadn’t seen Gentleman Jack but were still pleased to visit. I’d loved the drama and characterised by actors I respect but it was great to see the actual place Anne Lister lived. The house is a real treasure for Halifax and the North. It’s well preserved with good interested volunteers who add to the atmosphere. So knowledgeable- do engage them and learn about Anne, her ancestors and watch the 20 minute video too. We went on a Monday and it was surprisingly busy with quite a few folk like us enquiring about Anne and the family and how the house was affected by the drama as crowds then wanted to visit. Read the information boards, spend time and admire the amazing Anne Lister who was such an adventurous person. We went from the house to the cafe in the park a good walk there and an even greater uphill walk back to the house and the car park. The park looked nice in the sunshine.

Absolutely wonderful place to visit! Myself and my partner are big Anne Lister and Gentleman Jack fans. To go and view Shibden Hall was an absolute dream. The staff were so friendly and helpful, offering loads of information about the estate. As we visited around Halloween, there was a spooky puzzle to crack the code which was an extra bit of added fun. The house was in immaculate condition with so much information to read. There was a diary in Anne’s bedroom to write an entry in, it was lovely to see other peoples’ messages too. I would love to come back in another season to see how the grounds change. An absolute must-visit!

Shibden Hall was gifted to Calderdale council in the first half of the twentieth century. It is a remarkable building, well preserved though heavily modified through its life. Made globally famous by 'Gentleman Jack' but there is much more to learn. I have known Shibden for more than fifty years, having visited from a very early age. The folk museum was created in the fifties and is of its time, don't expect Beamish or you will be dissapointed. Access to the hall is best gained by parking in the upper carpark, not directly accesible from the main park, although you can walk up. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable and as you may infer I have a nostalgic attachment to the place. I only marked 4 stars as I feel the folk museum is a little tired and ripe for developement. If this review has been helpful, please consider following me to see more. Thank you

The Piece Hall in Halifax is a remarkable 18th-century cloth hall that has been transformed into a vibrant hub of history, entertainment, and commerce. As the only surviving Georgian cloth hall globally, it stands as a testament to the region's textile trade heritage. Today, visitors can explore historical exhibits while enjoying an array of shops, bars, and restaurants within its classical gallery arcades. The venue also hosts live music events featuring acclaimed artists and bands.
Went for Anastasia concert. This venue is uncovered except balcony so you need to make sure you well covered because you may be cold. I saw people with the blankets and I thought it was a good idea 😂. This place is just few minutes from the train station which makes it very accessible. There were lots of food and drinks places and the waits was not very long. The concert was great and accustic was good. Recommend this place but make sure you cover yourself well in case of rain.

The best music space I have been too! Beautiful building. Bar is ran really well with a efficient queing system. Price of drinks are reasonable and food provided is accessible and high quality. Really helpful and friendly staff. Will look forward to my next visit

Two gigs Simple Minds & Faithless. SM was in the lounge and Faithless on the balcony. The sound on the balcony section with the lounge, is at an angle that completely wipes out anything like reasonable sound. Don't go lounge if you wish for coherent sound from your band. Faithless was completely different. The balcony is directly opposite the stage and the sound was actually very good. Staff at the gig were very good bar the odd 'I don't want to be here' which you get everywhere. Elsewhere they were friendly and pleased to help you. 3 stars for the sound let down at SM, it really wasn't worth being there. However, balcony or downstairs, all fine. Traffic sport links, very, very easy - train station 200 yards away or very easy to park a d very easy to get away too. I am sure I'll be back.

Pretty impressive when you consider the age and history, the rejuvenation of the site has certainly made it a fascinating place to visit. Lots of small independent shops and places to eat, definitely worth visiting The other shopping areas of Halifax are only a few minutes walk away.

What a lovely day out! Everything about Piece Hall is stunningly beautiful, we were pleasantly surprised. There are cafes, bars, shops, museums, concerts, markets and much more. Everyone who works there was so helpful and friendly. The gelato and hot chocolate were delicious served at the pizza restaurant. Definitely will go again soon, I believe the Christmas markets are lovely.

A concert.. Apollo Junction, Cast and Doves. Fabulous concert. Apollo Junction were very good. Cast were my standout. Doves sound odd without their normal lead singer, not helped by the mix that seemed to hide their vocals behind the music. The highlight being surrounded by my contempories dancing like it's 1995 ... Only slower. Not forgetting that the lead singer of Apollo Junction brushed past me while I wasn't looking, to stand next to me and sing on the steps. I didn't even take a picture it was that surreal.
Robert S — Google review
Amazing concert venue! Loved the libertines, the only issue were the toilets! Only on one side only the venue so if you're watching the concert on the other its a right farce to fight your way through everyone and there is definitely not enough of the portaloos!!! Apart from that i loved every second!

This has to be my favourite music venue! Great staff, beautiful surroundings and amazing acoustics. It's almost a 2.5hr drive for us, but it'll always be worth it! Lots of reasonably priced parking nearby in the town centre too.

Bankfield Museum, situated in Boothtown, Halifax, England, is a captivating Grade II listed historic house museum that was once the residence of Colonel Edward Akroyd. The museum boasts permanent displays of costume and textiles alongside temporary exhibitions. It houses an extensive and varied collection including military equipment from Halifax's Duke of Wellingtons Regiment, toys, Egyptian antiquities, sculpture, Japanese armor, paintings, jewelry and local ephemera.
Visited today for the 1940s weekend. Well done guys, it was brilliant. The museum alone houses some fantastic collections. Free entry, donations welcome. Tea room, small gift shop and toilets.

A lovely museum with an unexpected Fashion through the ages with The Costume Drama Display. Loved that they tied it in with Yorkshire, including Mr. Darcy’s shirt. Liked the Halifax room with the sweets and cat’s eyes etc. I think it was also a great idea to have all the feature display cases in the main room. Enjoyed the militaristic rooms too. To say it is a free local museum, it’s one of the best small local museums I’ve been in. Staff were also friendly and happy to chat about the displays. There is a good amount of parking spots and also a small cafe that serves tea and coffee and snacks. Now we just need to work on the #sconeAsInGone!

Well worth the steady climb up the hills going out of Halifax! This is a large and ornate house set in beautiful grounds. The entrance is spectacular with beautiful decorated ceiling and walls surrounding the sweeping stairwell. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. There are many sections including a really wonderful display of costumes used in such dramas as Emma, Bridgerton, Downton Abbey and Victoria. The section dedicated to the Yorkshire regiments is very informative and moving as is the section exploring death and mourning. Some sections are closed or will be closed to enable repairs to the roof but there is still so much to see. When visiting remember to look upas each room has the most ornate ceiling embellishments. Good toilets and there’s also a cafe. I will definitely revisit when back in Halifax.

A delightful visit to Bankfield Museum. During a day trip to Halifax, my daughter suggested we visit Bankfield Museum, and it turned out to be an absolute gem! We weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our visit. The highlight for us was the stunning display of Chris Mould's art—truly captivating. We also loved the fascinating exhibits on the Brontë sisters, Ted Hughes, and the history of the Duke of Wellington's regiment. The smaller displays showcasing Halifax’s local history were equally engaging. I even learned that both Quality Street chocolates and the inventor of Cats Eyes originated from this area—what a fun discovery! The museum itself is spacious, well-laid out, and easy to explore at your own pace. Unfortunately, the fashion section was closed for refurbishment, which was a slight disappointment for my daughter. As for me… I can’t say I missed it too much 😁 Overall, Bankfield Museum is a wonderful place to visit, packed with history and charm. Well done to the team for creating such an enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!

Well laid out museum with an interesting array of local history. The building it is housed in is an eye opener on how the wealthy lived in early 19c. It's also free.

Absolutely lovely museum in Halifax. The staff were nice, but what I loved was going through the poetry section and the small period costume section. Also recommend the beautiful Darcy display and the costume are where you can try on the regency dresses! Must visit for history buffs

Lots to see and enjoy here. Went to the launch today of "What we wore" wonderful project by our service users at Calderdale Dementia Hub. Onsite car parking, cafe, gift shop and it's FREE, although donations are very welcome!

So rare to find a wonderful facility that is free to enter and park. Lots of military history, and local interest. Just watch for the invisible speed ramp on the way in, and look for the hidden alternative exit. PS. Great church too.

Eureka! The National Children's Museum in Halifax is a popular destination for families with kids aged 0-11. It emphasizes learning through play and features interactive displays and role-play areas to engage children in hands-on activities. With six zones to explore, outdoor space, and family-friendly facilities, it's a top choice for a fun day out. Located near Halifax Railway Station, the museum is easily accessible by public transport.
It is beautiful, interactive, smart and a learning space for children and adults. Make sure the adults have patience and the kids had a nap :)) There are endless activities!! The museum is right at the exit of the train station. There are picnic areas inside and out for own food, there is a cafe to buy warm/cold food, drinks and even ice cream. There’s also a sand pit outside. You can go in and out if you want, they will stamp your hand.
Izabella O — Google review
Such a great interactive museum. My kids aged 5 7 and 11 all absolutely loved it. So much to see and do to keep them entertained. Dressing up, role play, interactive exhibits all ready to be touched and experienced. Eureka are also extremely helpful and accommodating to children on the spectrum. With resources there to support parents and children who may be overstimulated. We got there at 10 and left about 3 so a good chunk of the day. We took our own picnic and refreshingly for a museum they have both inside and outside picnic areas which is great. The only downside really is the price. They do have different discounts available but it can get quiet expensive for a larger family, although once you pay in you get a years membership so another plus
Emily — Google review
Went with my 9yo. I wouldn't say it is a full day out. We felt most of the museum is aim at 5 and under. We spent three hours here and did several of the attractions twice.. Personally would not say it was worth the £55 I paid..another thing I didn't realise was the car park is pay and display another £6 added to the day.. Lots of places to sit with a picnic. Cafe is as to be expected a little expensive.

Had a lovely day at Eureka and it was surprisingly easy to get to via Rochdale train station and when you get off the train, Eureka is right next to the station. My daughter was very wary of the ABOUT YOU section as it freaked her out but after we got her passed that she enjoyed the gaming room, Lego, drawing, play house exploring. Well worth a day out.

Amazing place! Every time we go it's a different adventure. My 3 and 6 year old love it and it doesn't matter how many time we go.

Myself and my 2 boys had a great time at Eureka. Having children with sensory needs can be challenging, however the staff at Eureka were so helpful. We were able to borrow headphones as I hadn't brought a set (not used too often but my eldest was struggling). They had themed backpacks too that you could borrow with sensory toys. Within minutes, my youngest became very dysregulated and one of the staff members took us to a quiet room. The room had a bubble fish lamp, toys, confortbale seating and a phone we could use if we needed anything. This was incredibly helpful. The rest of the day went smoothly and I would highly recommend Eureka to family's with children who have ASD and sensory needs!
Sarah P — Google review
I took my four year old to Eureka! recently given that I thought he’d enjoy it and the fact that it also states it’s an autism friendly venue. I’d say it is generally suitable for an autistic child, and for anyone who is disabled, and we saw lots of disabled visitors whilst we were there too. It was nice to be able to let my son wander and explore fairly safely and follow his lead. Whilst there were areas that my child was able to engage with, such as anything that had a button he could press or some of the more visual areas, there were probably too many simple buttons where it was just simple cause and effect rather than things that can be manipulated, moved or transformed in order to understand what they were trying to communicate. A large proportion of the attraction also relies on a child’s imaginary play ability, such as the small world area with the shop, bank and house, which is not always suitable for an autistic learner unless there are more physical or scaffolded elements to it. There could be more adaptations made for different types of learners in general. It was also a shame to not see any letters, numbers or shapes as part of the broader learning experience. More visuals paired with text would also be useful for some autistic learners in order to offer clarity. The area where there’s a ‘dark forest’ for example could have benefitted from text or audio instructions on how to play and interact with the attraction and would have helped my son to understand what to do. The toileting facilities were too scant, and the loud hand dryers are also an issue in terms of sensory sensitivities. The ‘change and feed room’ could have done with a toilet inside too where I could have changed both my four year old and five month old at the same time safely and without distraction or noise, and used the facilities myself. The outside area has an absolutely giant sand pit, which I think takes up space that could be put to better use.
Emma S — Google review
Went here when I was 8 or 9 with primary school and I remember how cool it was. I'm 40 now and couldn't wait to take my lad. What the heck has happened to the place? It's not at all how I remember it. It's more like a creshé for toddlers not the interactive adventure filled fun experience I had when I was at school. My lad is only 6 and he was bored after 2 hours and so was I. There's a food court that was so busy there were no tables left. So we went to the picnic area and again no seats so we waited another hour to sit down and eat something. £18 each is a bit steep for what you get which unfortunately isn't much now. Coming back has ruined a good childhood memory and we Won't be coming back in a hurry sadly.

Ogden Water Country Park is a nature reserve that offers stunning lakeside views and picturesque walking trails. It spans 150 acres of coniferous and broadleaf woodland surrounding a reservoir, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers. The park features waterside trails, picnic areas, and opportunities for bird watching. Additionally, visitors can enjoy orienteering courses and explore the diverse landscape.
Nice flat walk around a small reservoir. Toilets open all day until 6pm. Small visitor centre selling drinks and snacks also local maps. Lots of opportunity to extend your walk in all directions. Parking was £1 in an honesty box at the visitor centre.

A beautiful walk with many trails of the main path and plenty of seating on the way round for you to sit and enjoy the view. Parking is at the top of the road, and the car park is a tad bumpy but fine

It is such a hidden gem. There is free car parking costing only £1 which needs to be paid at the visitor centre. The walks are beautiful offering nature at its best. There is the Moor, the forested lands and the circular walk around the reservoir. Very well maintained and clean. Can easily pass 3 hours going through the various trails. We went towards ogden clough and spent around an hour waking through the Moor. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Natures medicine a place to escape from the stresses and strains of life. On this visit the levels in the reservoir were extremely low. Hose pipe bans in the Summer . This is a great location for picnics, walking, family outings and nature activities. Make sure you have plenty of hydration as no facilities like food or beverage. There is an ice-cream van but not sure of timings. Parking is available please donate as there are no charges to help with this wonderful location. The walk through and up around the country park is a feast for the soul imho. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

One of my favourite walking spots! The woods are almost rainforest like, and lots of fairytale trails around. Plenty of parking, which is £1 in the honesty box. Although visitors with dogs like to leave their 💩 which is gross. Watch your step guys!!

A really nice spot for a day out — peaceful and very scenic with plenty of walking trails and open space. It’s a great place for nature lovers and dog walkers alike. While one dog walker we encountered was a bit of a disappointment due to their lack of control over their pet, overall the atmosphere was friendly and enjoyable. Definitely worth a visit.

Very pleasant approx. 4 miles walk, which had woodland, moorland, riverside and lakeside parts. Parking £1 by honesty box. Very reasonable cafe too with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. Will return.

Shibden Park, located in West Yorkshire, is a picturesque and historically significant destination. The park features lush green spaces, vibrant floral displays, and serene lakes. Visitors can explore the iconic Shibden Hall, a historic house dating back to 1420. The park offers engaging activities such as boating on the lake, riding a miniature train, and enjoying the kids' play area. It's also dog-friendly, making it an ideal spot for families and nature enthusiasts alike.
Always a pleasure to here. They have rowing boats, kids individual paddle boats, small steam engine, land train, kids park. Lots of toilet facilities, Kelly's Ice cream in the cafe. Shibden Hall is a lovely bit steep walk up the hill. It is breathtakingly beautiful, the grounds are maintained with fresh flower displays all around the park and estate. Beautiful Annabelle hydrangeas up the steps in the garden area, beautiful Wisteria along with a variety of plants and trees making this park absolutely stunning

Absolutely beautiful building with such a rich history. Most know that the most famous owner was Ann Lister but the building is very old and has some fabulous examples of medieval architecture. Well worth a visit a true gem. We did a guided tour which was so informative and the guides were brilliant. The grounds are immaculate and the park is full of things to do and see. If you haven't been to Shibden you are missing out.

Visited the park after our visit to the hall. It was a hot day and it was great seeing so many families enjoying the park. Picnics and boats on the lake it was fantastic. We stayed at the park for the rest of the day. Spoke to so many lovely people. The park was clean and well maintained. Dog friendly. Cafe, ice cream, playground, it has everything you need for a great day out. It was great seeing the boats on the lake. Shame the little railway was closed. Highly recommend 👌

A lovely park with loads of space, decent paths, and an old house to visit (you have to pay to go in the house). The carparks are also pay and display here, but there's plenty of space in them. We just called here for a short walk this time, but previously, we've been on the water in a boat. There's a cafe here, however, we didn't visit it. The pond is big and you can walk around it. There's lots of woodland about and the park links well to public footpaths in the area. We didn't visit the house as it was £10 per adult to enter, but we did have a walk around the outside of it. There's also free toilets (by the house and by the kids play park). Loads of space for picnics and for dog walking. A very child friendly place with toilets, parks and lots of grass.

Fabulous place to visit, Anne Lister aka Gentlemen Jack. Lovely Tudor house which Anne Lister renovated while she lived there. Some costumes from the TV series are displayed in the rooms. Great value for money. Cafe, gift shop, ample parking if you don't mind a walk, limited parking closer to the house.

Halifax Minster, situated in Halifax, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, is a captivating parish church with a fascinating history tracing back to the 12th century. Originally dedicated to St. John the Baptist, this Grade listed church boasts impressive Gothic architecture featuring intricate stone carvings and exquisite stained glass windows. Evidence of an Anglo-Saxon church remains on the site, with records suggesting occupation by Cluniac Benedictines.
Had a fantastic evening with music of the carpenters with the British Carpenters lovely ambience and magical lighting and very efficient bar service not had to wait long at all would highly recommend 👍👏👏👏

We spent an hour visiting this remarkable building. There is a deep sense of history as soon as you enter the door. We were met with 2 of the minsters volunteers who were very helpful and knowledgeable . There is a wooden ceiling with paintings on it there are long views down the church to the magnificient leaded windows there are small chapels on either side . In one of the chapels we came across 12 Mouseman chairs with the carved mouse on the legs. If you are in the area this is well worth looking in , you will not be disappointed . There is a Matalan shop behind it with plenty of parking if the other car parks are full

I was the driver at the wedding so unfortunately I never got the chance to go inside. I did however get the chance to have a good walk round the outside of the 15th century church, although there has been a place of worship here since 1120. It's exterior is fabulous and the stonework intricate although the industrial past of Halifax has done a lot of damage to the stonework through soot and chemical attack. Still it is beautiful with its adjoining building Causey Hall which was originally the parish school. Just by the front entrance to the Minster stands the 'Ring O Bells' public house, where on the side elevation there is a mural of Anne Lister, AKA Gentleman Jack which i have also included

A lovely Minster in Halifax. There was a special group of visitors Lord and Lady Mayor. The staff were so friendly and they make a great brew. The homemade scones went down a treat, thank you. The Minster itself was a beautiful building. A gift shop is also well stocked.

What an absolutely beautiful building to be able to walk into and admire not only from the outside but the inner craft i actually find my inner peace just walking around this place plus always admire it from a far that it has stood the test of time a total historical building . I would highly recommend a nice peaceful walk around the buildings then a glance at all the stained glass windows inside with the most amazing architecture structure to me this place is just incredible.

The place to start your spiritual journey! I had a wonderful hour walking around the grounds and a brief walk inside the building, then took part in the Eucharist (First time in adulthood), which was very special. A very special place!

This was a really rewarding experience! This was one of the churches that we thought we could find some evidence of my wife's Whitaker side of the family, and lo and behold we actually found a commemorative plaque with their names! Very cool. The church itself is a bit on the dark side, probably evidence of the climate or how it's been used in the past. I loved to see how wheelchair accessible the caretakers made it, being creative in their use of portable and permanent ramps. While we didn't stay long, we were able to get a nice history of the place, along with a shout out to the Whitaker plaque from the friendly staff.

Cheap and cheerful place to spend a couple of hours if you walk round the gardens afterwards as well. There are some beautiful butterflies. It's quite a good date idea. I visited on a bank holiday and it was very pleasant

Amazing little hidden gem! The butterflies are beautiful! And there are so many turtles. It's very hot in there so make sure you're able to take layers off to fully enjoy it. 1 pound entry (cash only) or even free on certain days.

For the low price this was amazing. Definitely worth a visit. Entertained our 2 year old and he loved the "Dino flying". We only saw a few butterflies as most were still hatching but we enjoyed what we did see.

Jungle Experience was a great little place to visit and only £1 each (cash only). Staff were really friendly and helpful. The greenhouses are full of tropical plants, flowers, gold fish, terrapins and of course, Butterflies (seasonal). Nestled just a mile south of Halifax's bustling town center, Manor Heath Park is a delightful 19-acre retreat that beckons families and nature lovers alike. This beautifully landscaped park boasts an array of curated gardens, inviting picnic spots, and playful sand and water areas for children to explore.
One of the best play park areas in the local area - the equipment is in good condition, and there's plenty to explore and keep children from approx age 1-12 busy. Butterfly house is just up around the corner, and the coffee shop is handy, too. Perfect on a hot day to bring a picnic, lots of grassy areas to sit and enjoy the park - there's also a water playground area, whereby running water is turned on when it's sunny and warm for children to play with.

Limited parking at the entrance car park but plenty in the surrounding areas if needed. There is a few EV parking bays but they never seem to work. The park itself is really well kept and always has fantastic gardens that are great to look around. The butterfly greenhouse is worth a visit, it’s only £1 donation per person. The kids play park is quite modern and there’s parts of the park for all ages. They even have a work out station now

I had some time to kill between the hotel kick out time and the event I was going to so I thought I would go exploring, with my camera in hand. What an absolute find Manor Heath Park was! Watching the wildlife playfully flitting about, seeing a wide array of fabulous doggos, and being surrounded by a plethora of beautiful flowers was just an ideal way to spend my Sunday morning. I can only imagine how beautiful it all looks when fully in bloom come spring time. I would highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

I went to see Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde last night and it was fantastic, I never really used to go to the square chapel in it's old format but this new one make it looks fantastic. The reception area is large and welcoming a perfect place to meet and have a drink before the show. The theatre is a nice size so that everyone can see but also feels personal, I was sat on the back row and I still felt as though the actors were talking to me. I really enjoyed it and I will be back

The act itself was pretty good, but I would expect pink Floyd tribute band should have a top notch screen/walls and lights to accompany the band. The band faced few technical difficulties, more than half of the show was done without lasers and screens. Anyway, the band itself should rethink about the cheergirls singing in the background, looked like a circus act. Very out of place. Good selection of beers on tap.

Located in a 19th-century weaving mill, Calderdale Industrial Museum is a family-friendly regional-history museum that offers insight into the town's engineering feats during the Industrial Revolution. The museum showcases original machines and rare artifacts related to Calderdale's industrial heritage. Run entirely by volunteers, it opens on Saturdays and features both static and fully working machines. Visitors can witness demonstrations of fascinating machinery, including the Quality Street wrapping machine and looms.
AMAZING PLACE if old machines and industrial revolution are your things. The collection is huge, and the volunteers are amazing. They help you a lot and really know about all the item there. This museum deserves a lot more reviews.

What a wonderful place to visit! My 15-year-old son and I visited today (10/04/25) The volunteers were so knowledgeable, so helpful and it was so lovely to be shown around and to tell us what things did, and how things worked. We would recommend this museum for all ages. There is a café, which we didn't have time to go to this time, but hopefully in the future, the menu looked lovely and good pricing too. What a lovely morning we had. Thank you all so much xxx

We were very lucky to have one of the museum volunteers ( Matthew) take us on a tour of the museum. It was a very interesting place to visit, and we thoroughly enjoyed the informative tour. It was lovely to meet a number of the volunteers who were very friendly and as well as happy to share their knowledge, enthused us with their passion for the museum and exhibits. We spent around 3 hours there, as there is a lot to see. Interesting to see how this all links with Manchester too Thank you . It was a great place to visit

I myself recently visited the one & only historically captivating, most insightfully uplifting calderdale industrial museum (with my P.A.), from the moment we arrived... and set foot within said museum in halifax out there... It felt like going back through time as walked up every floor, checking out each & every display of whom the calderdale industrial museum has to offer, It's the very first time visiting this captivating museum 'in-person' and my P.A's first visit as well... I also recommend this imposing museum to all with more than an interest in the history of halifax, the calder valley, and their industrial pasts through time, I'm also impressed with the fine range of displayed vintage old washer machines, tumble-dryers and other bathroom/kitchen machinery in-between, Also impressed by the quentessential quality street display - showcasing the history in quality street chocolates past & present, especially the recreated colourful wrappings & other wrappages too... not to mention the volunteer-run machinery below ground of whom under the main floor of the museum as well... the calderdale industrial museum is certainly - most definitely a one-of-a-kind museum next door to the nearby piece hall. I look forward to hopefully return/revisit this historically captivating museum of industrial history to behold, one day. Tip-TOP 60 out of 60.

Wainhouse Tower, a 1875 landmark in Halifax, is renowned as the tallest folly globally and boasts 403 steps leading to its first viewing platform. Originally constructed as a chimney for John Edward Wainhouse's dyeworks, the tower stands at 275 feet tall. Despite being built with no clear purpose initially, it now offers visitors the opportunity to climb its spiral staircase and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape from its ornate Victorian structure.
Took the opportunity to visit the tower which was open for the 150th anniversary of it’s completion. The 369 step climb may seem a bit daunting but there are plenty of places to take a rest on the way and it was surprisingly easy. At the top you get fantastic views over Halifax and Calderdale. Volunteer guides help you pick out the landmarks in the area. Opening times can be found on the Visit Calderdale socials.

A great piece of history. Took my children up now with my grandchildren. How the view has changed over the years the tower is 150 years old this year. 369 steps feels a lot more going up than coming down.

There are a lot of rats in the park. There are always teenagers standing around smoking weed, there is an unpleasant smell throughout the park. Ducks swim in dirty water, the duck pond is never cleaned, the fountain never works. The grass is dirty, there is dog shit on it.
Asiya A — Google review
A beautiful Victorian Park, with a promenade, some Greek statues of Hercules and Venus. There's an interesting sundial with rather ominous Latin "Boast not thyself of tomorrow, for on thy eyelids is the shadow of death." Aside from the shadow of death, there are charming bridges over shallow duck ponds. I'm giving it 4 stars because the toilet is fairly grimey and a contrast to the elegance of the park - it's a shame people don't take better care of them. At least the council has some toilets in the park, I guess! Imagine how amazing it would be to restore the bath house down one end of the park! And the bandstand.

Absolutely brilliant Stylistics show last Tuesday & guess what 😆 they become famous a year AFTER I left school 😆 🤣 😂 !!! It really was just like stepping back in the day and even after all of these years and the sad passing & absence of original members of the group were wonderful 😢 with their amazing 💔 vocal ranges ❤️ Still a beautiful & well maintaned theatre and a pretty full house downstairs, the bulk of the folk I spoke to were having a ball. Two ladies in front of me were up and 💃 more or less as it started & by the end it seemed like the whole audience were either busting their own moves or clapping but just loving the whole experience. If you get the chance to see these guys they're worth every penny + some. Extremely helpful staff, spotlessly clean and a wide range of top shows so if you're not already doing it make sure you start because I saw the likes of Ben Elton, Paul/Pauline Calf, Lily Savage, Paul Merton etc before they were so well know in local theatre so give it a go because if they're good enough for local you might not be able to afford them years later!!

A great little theatre. Been here several times just recently to watch shows and the staff have been excellent. It's probably in need of a bit of a refurbishment in certain areas but it's still a great venue to see a show. There's parking close by as well which is great for a town centre.

Nice little theatre in a good location. Plenty of street parking nearby and lots of info sent out by email about the roadworks etc to plan the journey better. This place is absolutely incredible. Worth EVERY penny. We did 2 rooms, Area 51 1/2 and Operation Moonshine. Area 51 1/2 looks like it was designed by a Disney Imagineer. It is utterly phenomenal. The is the best escape room we have ever been in. You will love this. Both the quality of the puzzle and attention to detail is superb. The functionality was brilliant. Operation Moonshine was so much fun too. It’s their older room and still holds its own. Great staff that made the experience all the more fun.

The interactive displays in 'Boom' allow guests to explore sound waves' journeys while learning about their impact on our lives.
This is an excellent museum. Free of charge, although donations encouraged. Lots to see and do, very well thought out displays. I've been coming since my first school trip, which helped fuel my lifelong passion for film and television.

We had a great time visiting the Bradford Science and Media Museum. The exhibits are engaging, interactive, and perfect for visitors of all ages. I especially loved the hands-on science displays and the fascinating film and TV history sections. The staff were friendly and helpful, making the experience even better. The gentleman giving the talk about the planets was fun and engaging. The museum offers a great mix of education and fun, with plenty of opportunities to explore and learn in a lively environment. Whether you’re interested in science, technology, or media, this museum is definitely worth a visit.

100% worth a visit. Free entry for most but a fee exhibits you pay extra to go in. The video game floor is by far the best £3 and you can play loads of retro and classic video games. (Also makes me feel old that video games are in a museum 😢)

Free entry to a fun packed, interactive experience. Suitable for all ages. No time limits. Small entry charges to some exhibits. A great family day out. Cafe and toilets.

Good museum with free entry. Wonderlab was the kids favourite area. Spent around 2 hours. Lifts take ages so easy to just use stairs. Has a gift shop.

Great variety of interactive and engaging exhibits, covering everything from photography to the internet. Good overall, and the free entry makes it fantastic value.

Oh the nostalgia! I used to visit here as a kid (maybe 15 years ago 😳). My visit today was the perfect combination of childhood memories and brand new experiences and IT’S FREE! Five floors of exhibitions…something for everyone. It’s a must if you’re in the area.

All Souls' Church in Halifax is a rare gem, only open on the first Saturday of every summer month. Its gleaming spire catches the eye from afar, drawing visitors in. Although not widely promoted, it is undeniably a magnificent attraction. Inside, the church boasts impressive architecture and is listed as Grade 1. Special services are held here, and from March to November on Saturdays, visitors can explore for a few hours.
A stunning interior. Open first Saturday of each month
Cath M — Google review
Rarely open.... only the first Saturday of every month during summer. (But you can check on their Facebook page.) It's gleaming spire caught my eye from a distance on a sunny day, so I trekked up to it, regretfully to find it locked, therefore I cannot review the interior. Has a statue of the renowned Edward Ackroyd in its grounds.

All Souls is an architectural masterpiece and acoustic gem. Its definitely worth visiting when open. It's sad it can no longer be used for regular worship but when occasional services are held there it has a real spiritual presence.
Andy B — Google review
Having admired All Souls for many years, I went to Sunnyside school up the hill, I visited today. It is undoubtedly a jewel in the crown of visitor attractions, though sadly not promoted and marketed as such. If you do get an opportunity to look inside you won't be disappointed.

Park
Wellholme Park in Brighouse is a vibrant and expansive green space that offers something for everyone. With its colorful floral displays, well-maintained fields, and various recreational facilities like bowling greens, tennis courts, crazy golf, and a skate park, it’s an ideal spot for both relaxation and adventure. Families can enjoy the dedicated play area while older kids can test their skills at the skate park or explore the numerous trails perfect for cycling or walking.
Great place for a walk with the dogs or just wander alone.. woodland area's are up a steep slope with bridal paths and lead into a field area.. in the park itself there is a child's play area, skate/bmx park, lots of room for a kick about with the kids.. By the carpark at the ford there's a gym.. The stream/river runs down one side of the park, our dog spent nearly a hour running in and out of the water... Great place for families, dog walkers
Trevor S — Google review
Nice park. Good playground for the kids. Nice you can have dogs in there as well on the lead. There’s some nice open areas to walk on and a nice garden area. The skate park is basic but ok for children.
Leon D — Google review
Great for families, children and dogs alike. Plenty of space for sport, it has gym equipment, large playground, wooded area for dog walkers, a stream which children and dogs love to play in, and is conveniently right next to a Tesco. There is a car park at one end, and parking on the main road too.

The R — Google review
My sister has had surgery on her ankle so was walking in crutches. ...the keeper of the park was very caring and took time out to help her with her dog. I loved the woodland walk.
Val S — Google review
Fantastic large park with lots of exploring bits, children's play, teenage skate bit. Lots of benches to sit on. So much to explore: flat bits, stream bits, cycle bits, climbing bits. Only criticism which is down to its users. Adults not keeping their kids to the 2m policy, older teenagers in large groups trying to prove a point. Such a large place to enjoy however lazy families congregating near the entrances near the car park near the play area. Come on people, it IS POSSIBLE to enjoy the outdoors here sensibly.
Elisabeth M — Google review
This is a great park with formal gardens, woodlands and a river/stream which the dogs love. Easy and free parking. 15-minute walk into Brighouse centre along the river bank and footpaths, leading to the canal towpath where Blakeley's fish and chip shop and Mamil bar/cafe are definitely worth visiting.

The courses offer a fun challenge, with the option to choose between easier or more challenging tracks. The experience includes luminous balls and clubs, adding an extra element of excitement. Additionally, there are plans to introduce a climbing wall arena soon.
Had this on my list for a while. Finally managed too visit. Didn't disappoint. Im obsessed with finding unique Crazy Golf experiences and this one was Great Fun! All UV lit most of the way around. There is 2. 18 hole courses. One easier and one harder. Great course and great fun! Don't hesitate to have a go!
Leanne H — Google review
Took my grandson to Galactic golf today. We both really enjoyed it. I booked on line for a game of the golf 2 drinks and a meal each. When we got there we were seen to buy one of the many helpful staff Now I don’t know the price of each meal that was charged as it didn’t itemise this on my receipt and it was a package that was shown on line. When I got there I noticed that kids ate for £1 with one adult meal bought. I questioned this with the lady that served me and she saw my point. When we finished the alien course I thought we would give the space one a go. I asked how much just for a game and was told £12 for the both of us but she gave us it for £5 because of the query of the kids meal price... very helpful but think the package deals should be looked into, or maybe I should have looked into it further not sure. Just an observation
Mandy J — Google review
This was a superb venue for golfing, with a space themed course even depicting another planet! The holes do begin as sloped ones which are challenging, although this allows strategy to get through and the bases are a slick feature. Lighting effects in the enclosed room make it feel out of this world; spaceship and astronaut appear too! The course progresses with more fun over craters and the pricing was fine, staff were nice too.
K. P — Google review
Fun for all ages. My brother and I went here on an impulse last Saturday, we'd never been and the staff was lovely and helpful in telling us how to play and what to do. We had a cheeky cosmic inspired cocktail (which was amazing) while doing the course and it was so much fun. The music playing wasn't overly loud or unbearably modern (never did I think I'd be playing minigolf while singing along to Keane). Some of the decorations have been drawn on by visitors, which is such a shame as it took away from the experience. However, it was a great couple of hours we spent in there and will definitely be going back again!
Lucy S — Google review
Great fun. 3 adults being kids again!
Gareth W — Google review
Went with family of 5. Was a little disappointed with the courses as the golf ball was difficult to see on the darker course. There were 2 young children running around on the one of the holes we played on so we skipped a few holes to get away from them. They were throwing the golf balls around which narrowly missed one of my children but their parent just stood and watched. The staff seemed disinterested. Even though the rules stated to leave 1 hole distance from people playing before you there were people behind us constantly waiting who were a little tipsy and also using foul language between themselves. Overall it was not a good day out for me and my young children. Will definitely not be going again.
Imran Y — Google review
Always fun. Went along with a group and just did 18 holes. The only down side is you don't get your parking for free anymore

What a day we’ve had with you! We came for a birthday party for a bunch of 8 year olds and they have had the best time! We’ve tobogganed, paintballed and zorbed and enjoyed the picnic area! The food was brilliant, the staff were super and friendly - yes the gorgeous weather has really helped but I would fully recommend Another world to anyone looking for a different day out or a party. Loads of activities to choose from, all well supervised and instructed and extremely good value for money! We will be back for sure! Thank you for having us!

We had an absolute ball! I took my nephew and his friend, my sister, and our mum for paintballing, archery, and tobogganing, followed by lunch. I’d definitely recommend it for all ages. Our youngest was 12, and our oldest 75!

Movie theater
Best cinema in Nottingham. Modern, clean and affordable. Easy to get to via public transport. Super comfortable chairs and decent screens. Offers all latest movies. Lots of snack and drink options.
David S — Google review
The prices aren’t the worst, there quite cheap for the experience, I’ve been a couple times and never regretted it. The staff are normally caring and kind. Normal tickets for an adult are £10 and children tickets are £7.5. This is for the normal rooms they have, the place does not disappoint, the design is very nice. They also have reclining seats which are very comfortable. One thing that really annoys me is that you aren’t allowed to bring any hot foods or any sort of snacks with you that isn’t brought from them. This really disappoints as their prices for snacks and food are quite high, although the popcorn isn’t as expensive, it was about £4.5 for a decent sized bucket of popcorn.
— — — Google review
Great cinema, to begin with their service. Top tier service, I arrived just at the beginning of the movie - almost missed it - and the cashier was extremely speedy and was very helpful. Their range of snacks and food is also definitely up there, although the prices are outrageous - but all cinemas are like that. Their seating in the cinema is exceptionally good, providing all customers with reclining, cushioned seats.
Ab ( — Google review
I highly recommend going to the Arc Cinema, I’ve been a couple of times and have enjoyed it every time, the staff are very friendly and helpful, it’s kept clean and is very inventing, the ticket machines are easy to use, the cinema rooms themselves are very comfortable, and there is a wide range of snacks and drinks to choose from. They also have good deals going!
Cole — Google review
Very good cinema, the seats are adjustable and cozy, large veriety of movies to watch, ticket machines are straight-to-the-point, however, the prices are a bit high. Overall , I really like this cinema, it's also very convinient as I live quite close and can go with my friends alot. Love this.
Leon K — Google review
They give a very good experience for the price, £12.50 for two tickets (plus £1 for 3D glasses each you can take home). Cinema quality is good, the seats are clean and comfortable with an abundance of leg room and the staff I dealt with were super polite and pleasant to interact with. The food seems expensive (it's a cinema), but that popcorn bag was so big two of us could munch on it. The food sold was of good quality. My partner bought an additional hot dog and nacho with drink and to be fair, the cost of a hot dog with drink is probably less than two pints out these days. The only thing I think could be improved is, the popcorn is incredibly salty. To the point that I had to stop eating it for a bit and take the surplus home as it was dehydrating me fast despite having a drink. I love salty food, but I think the salt on the popcorn should be dialled back just a tiny bit. If your a student, the deals for that are very good too. Other than the popcorn id say, a five star experience as the staff were pleasant, including cleaning staff and the quality.
Jacob M — Google review
Cinema is very well located lots of parking nearby and tramp stop outside. The staff are always polite and friendly probably due to it being a smaller cinema. Food and drinks are all cinema prices (far above what they are worth). Toilets are clean. Cinema is always cool, reclining leather seats with a decent arm rest in-between. Plenty of room on walkways and within the seats to move position during those long epic films. Seating area in the upper foyer and by the Hypersense screens. We always use this cinema for the above reasons. If you haven't been you should go and then it will become your go to cinema. One little thing for the senior management, what about doing a membership pass (like Cineworld do) £19.50 a month see as many films as you like, guaranteed income and some months it's busy some you might watch one film, but it will generate more money, and spending at the refreshments counter. Just a thought.
James H — Google review
Best cinema in Nottingham. Seats are really comfy, with loads of space. Lots of ticket deals throughout the week making it amazing value for money. We try not to go to any other cinema if we can help it!

Robin Hood Entertainment & Soft Play is a fantastic destination for families looking to enjoy a day of fun and adventure. Many visitors rave about hosting birthday parties here, highlighting how effortless the experience can be compared to organizing one themselves. The dedicated staff ensures everything runs smoothly, allowing parents to focus on enjoying the moment with their kids.
Our daughter always loves coming here. It's hard to drag her away from the place. We usually go for toddler Tuesday when it's pretty quiet and you get toast and juice included in the price which is s great bonus. The play areas are fun to climb around in even for adults. It certainly makes you sweat. The staff are always super helpful and super happy even when scrubbing trotten in baked beans from the floor. The place prefers cash as they retain 100% of cash but they do accept card also. Well worth a visit. You won't regret it and your child will love you for it.

From the moment you walk in you are greeted by incredibly friendly staff who make you feel so welcome. They are great with the kids, patient and attentive, and it's clear they genuinely enjoy what they do. The play area itself is spotless and very well maintained. Everything feels safe and secure. The equipment is bright, colourful, and imaginative – perfect for little ones to burn off some energy and have fun. There’s a great mix of activities for different ages, and plenty of space so it never felt overcrowded. It’s clear a lot of thought and care has gone into making this a top-notch play space. Highly recommend to any parents looking for a fun, clean, and friendly environment for their children to play. We’ll definitely be coming back soon.

We had an exclusive birthday party last weekend at Robin Hood and this was our first experience of a party that we pay for and they do everything. We’ve previously done it ourselves (which in the end ALWAYS works out more expensive than these packages!!) and we was blown away how easy and effortless it was. As parents we enjoyed it, just as much as our son. We got to see him the whole time, not doing everything else. We paid extra for the birthday cake which actually was very nice and went down a treat in our house! They called a few days beforehand to ask us about what our child likes, favourite colours for the cake, any allergies, rough numbers. It honestly was a breeze. We got there a tad early for decorations, and before you knew it, it started. Kids came in, they did the final kid count. We had to pay for 1 extra but we knew that roughly anyway. Had a tab for drinks, so we only paid it at the end. The whole day went without any issues! We’ve already started looking at the exclusive hire again for August 2026 for a laser tag party. Well worth the money, food is true party food that kids actually eat, free return voucher for the birthday child, birthday card, juice on tap, massive soft play area. Without a second thought would come back in a heart beat for a party! Also the staff are so friendly and kind!!

I used to think this place was ok but the new staff that work here are absolutely atrocious! Even the old manager that worked at the old one joins in with them. I was in there this morning and heard them talking about people who get on buses and the staff there seem to think they're above them in some strange way! I've heard them talk about customers after they leave and today just topped it off for me! Won't be going in here ever again so if you've spent money here there is a good chance they are basically laughing at you! They don't care if you lose money they don't even ask if you need to take a break from gambling....it's become an absolutely ridiculous vile place to be....don't waste your money in here
