Specialty Museums
Located in Downtown Peoria, the Peoria Riverfront Museum is a multifaceted art and science museum that offers a diverse range of attractions. Affiliated with the Smithsonian Institute, it regularly showcases prized artifacts from the Smithsonian catalogue. The museum features permanent exhibits spanning science and art, including the 1898 Duryea Motor Trap, one of the earliest gasoline-powered cars ever sold. Visitors can also enjoy shows at its giant-screen theater and dome planetarium.
This museum was a fantastic experience!!! Not only were there several wonderful exhibits, including some gorgeously detailed cars, and several art instillations (both professional and folk), but the entrance also included shows at the planetarium! Also, if screens are your thing, they have a theatre with the second largest screen in Illinois! The real treasure, though, were the staff. Multiple guides were present around the exhibits, enriching the experience with many fascinating facts and stories behind particular pieces, and one gentleman in particular guided us through a great deal of artworks, ensuring that we found something entertaining for both the adults and children in our group! I can't thank them enough, as well as everyone who makes that museum possible!!!

We didn't get to see much because our toddler ended up getting too tired but the staff were super friendly and we saw some gorgeous art. The gift shop was probably my favorite part because they had cello socks. (I got super geeked about that as I am a cello player lol) But they had a wide variety of items from toys and notebooks to magnets and room decor.

Wow, what an incredible experience! My family opted to purchase the pass, which granted us complimentary entry to numerous other museums and science centers. Additionally, we received discounts on tickets to other attractions if the entry fee was free. This trip allowed us to immerse our kids in diverse cultures. From the vibrant car culture, which encompassed various subcultures like bikers, truckers, low riders, and artists of all kinds, to the fascinating planetarium show, we were captivated by the exhibits. We were so impressed that we ended up wanting to watch several more shows. However, I must admit that the lady at the counter was not particularly receptive to our requests. We wanted our daughter to participate in the scavenger hunt, but it seemed like she was having a rough day or perhaps didn’t enjoy her job. Despite this, we managed to get our daughter involved. The gift shop at the museum was also quite extensive and offered a wide range of souvenirs.

The Peoria Riverfront Museum is a lot larger than it seems like it is going to be. It's connected to and shares a parking garage with the Caterpillar Visitors Center. We visited the museum on the last weekend of the Jim Henson Muppets Exhibit and it was BUSY. We got there about 45 minutes after the museum opened and there was already a line out the door. They were saying it was a 3-4 hour wait to get into the Henson exhibit but it ended up being closer to 90 minutes for us. The museum did route the line through other parts of the museum, so we at least got to slowly look at the other exhibits. Once we got to the Henson exhibit, we were there for about 20 minutes or so. It was a normal museum sized exhibit. I expected it to be busy but not that busy, if we had known beforehand the wait time we probably would've skipped it. The museum employees were somehow all polite and helpful despite the madness that was occurring inside. I could've sworn I heard someone say that the museum was going to stay open later as well in order for everyone that was lined up to be able to see the Henson Exhibit. There's also a small snack bar in the back of the main lobby. The main museum garage is free to park in but it is shared with the Caterpillar museum. There were maybe 100 spots inside of the garage and it was completely packed when we pulled in. We got lucky and found a spot though.

Tons of fun!! The dinosaur exhibit was very, very cool! We all enjoyed it. I discovered Neil Welliver (artist of the winter landscape) through one of their art displays and he might be a new favourite for me!

Great value! Great exhibits! Some change, while some stay the same. Definitely worth the visit for the whole family! Right now the Titanic Secret Mission is there for the first time anywhere in the world!

Nice place to hang out the afternoon for us on a warm Saturday. The concession stand was decent. The planetarium shows were very cool. Very friendly staff.

Nestled in the scenic Glen Oak Park, Peoria Zoo is a delightful destination for animal lovers and families alike. Established in 1955, this historic zoo spans 14 acres and showcases over 230 animals from more than 100 species worldwide, including some endangered varieties. Visitors can marvel at captivating exhibits like the African area featuring majestic giraffes, lions, and rhinos, as well as the Asian Trail where Siberian tigers roam.
We always stop here on our annual road trips east. Is it's small (compared to what we are used to in Omah), quaint, and fun! My kids love it! We really enjoy the Australian Walkabout with the emu and the wallabies where they are free roaming and the humans are confined to the path. There are numerous opportunities to learn and see a variety of different species. It will continue to be a regular stop for us to enjoy this gem in Peoria.

Not worth the $50 for a family of 5. Half the exhibits were closed. The lighted glow structures were pretty and we were impressed with the white rhinos and tiger. Everything else was lackluster.
AC Q — Google review
So I went to the zoo today I’m in town visiting a friend and relaxing. Had nothing to do this afternoon or this morning so I decided I wanted to go to the zoo. The Peoria zoo allows service animals Myself and my service animal went to the zoo We get there and I can only assume it’s the manager. I don’t know if it was the manager or supervisor, but the gentleman approached me when I came in to the counter to pay for my entry to the zoo and he asked me is this service dog I said she is my service animal due to a medical condition and he looks at me almost like it’s disbelief like he’s like oh are you sure ask me again and I say yes and he’s like then he asked me again and I’m like yes it is my service animal She is a dog. She is here with me because I need her and what she does for me you are causing the issue right now of why she’s about to provide service to me in a moment because he was killing my anxiety. He’s like well. I have people that come in all the time that say their dogs are service dogs and they bark out of control and I kick him out or tell him not to come back and You can pay and if your dog barks or lunges or jump it anyone I’m gonna have you removed from the zoo? I’m like OK fine no problem with that. As I’m thinking of myself like this, dude didn’t have to do all all that some of that is common sense and some of it’s perfectly acceptable to do if someone service dog or ““ service animal supposed is making a disturbance you can ask them to leave if my dog barks or does anything inappropriate you don’t have to ask me to leave. I’m gonna feel embarrassed and humiliated. I’m gonna leave myself and take my dog with me But all the while I’m thinking to myself like dude you asked me what you’re allowed to ask me now you can ask me the other two questions that you’re allowed to ask me, but please stop trying to insinuate that you don’t believe my dog is a service animal and you’re trying to give me The opportunity to back out of it We spent a couple hours in your facility, walking around seeing all the animals that were out. My dog encountered a tiger didn’t make a peep. My dog saw rhino didn’t make a peep. My dog saw a giraffe walk right up to her at the window and stare at her and look, and my dog didn’t make a peep. All the students that were there all the kids that were there for the day my dog didn’t lunch out or pull out or try and get it any of them So while you were more worried about whether my dog really was a service animal or not when we left, you could’ve come up and said thanks for coming and done something to try and recognize how well-behaved my service animal is all you had to do was simply say something like sorry I hope you didn’t think I was giving you a hard time Something like that just to recognize that but no, you were going more towards the front at the beginning, seeming like you’re trying to assume that my dog is not a real service animal I don’t know why maybe because she’s a smaller dog maybe because she’s a miniature schnauzer and not a larger dog that some people are most people might assume is the service dog I don’t know maybe that’s why Something else that I encountered, there was some of the most polite children that are at the zoo not one time did someone try and come up to touch or distract my dog several of the kids that would walk by would ask me can I pet your dog and I’d say Sorry not now thank you for asking and their parents would even tell them that was a great job you did it asking back home. Everyone just would’ve stuck their hand out at the dog and tried to pet her.

This place doesn’t even deserve any stars. The zoo here is just a big scam and the zootober event was the worse experience ever. They were stingy with the candy, half the food and drinks were expensive too. The “family events” which were just coloring was atleast a little fun, they weren’t too creative with this, I’ve seen school events better than this. Mind you, it’s 15 for each person so it all came up to around 60 there was no price different with kids and adults. The decorations were just giving “I’m too lazy”. I was very upset about this whole thing cause I spent around 63. They also don’t explain enough on the website, like prices of things. If you should bring your own buckets or if they have bags, what type of events they are going to have and so on. The person that wrote out everything about the event was lazy. I wish I could get a refund cause the whole thing was terrible and my siblings were upset.

We went for Fathers and Floats on Fathers Day. We enjoyed the exhibits and clean facilities. We appreciated the warning of the "splash zone" when the lemurs were crossing over the bridge. Not a disappointment, we enjoyed the stay.

What a treasure to our community! ...did you know you can get married here and have your reception?! It is truly one of the most unique places I have photographed. Feeling the giraffes is such a cool memory! I can't wait to be back here photographing weddings!
Photography B — Google review
Its a small zoo but a zoo nonetheless, if you live here with kids its worth it! You can go all year round. Perfect size.
Greyson H — Google review
I was not impressed with the Zoo! Went today and paid $34 for 2 adults and a 3 year old. Hardly any animals besides hogs, monkeys, 1 Tiger and 1Lion and of course giraffes but it just wasn’t like it used to be!!! My 3 year old nephew wasn’t even interested because most animals weren’t out or just not there! They raised their prices for us to see practically nothing! I’d rather travel to St. Louis or even Wildlife Prairie Park!

Museum
Located in Downtown Peoria, the Caterpillar Visitors Center is a 50,000 square foot facility dedicated to showcasing the history and rise of Caterpillar, a leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment. The museum features interactive exhibits, driving simulators, and displays of Caterpillar machinery from vintage to modern.
My almost 2 year old loved this place and threw a whole tantrum when we had to leave. Great for kids of all ages and the gift shop has some pretty fancy items that aren't too pricey. They've also got a great selection of stuff in there from shirts and toys to pocket knives and stress squeeze toys. We came to visit Peoria from Michigan and we have had an absolute blast.

We loved the Caterpillar Visitors Center! I can't get my husband to go to places like this, however, he enjoyed the CAT visitors center very much. He really enjoyed the simulators and seeing the equipment. While I enjoyed the history of Caterpillar. We definitely would recommend.
Jodi W — Google review
The outside of the building is huge and beautifully designed. We were greeted when we walked in. They offered us cookies and coffee, cookies were very good. Seniors were free, we entered with a group of 4H and FAA students. Seating was in the dump bucket of a massive earth mover turned into a movie theater. There are many displays of CAT history. There is a merch store with everything CAT. if you're in the area it's worth seeing.
Lemmie K — Google review
A very interesting visitor center with many interactive activities that appeal to all ages. It is extremely kid-friendly, featuring impressive displays of both equipment and detailed engineering processes. The sheer size of the equipment is truly breathtaking. We definitely recommend a visit for everyone. Key Changes: Added "that appeal to" to connect activities and ages more smoothly. Used "truly" to amplify "breathtaking.

My 9 year old grandson had a great time here! The machines were huge! It was fun trying to do tasks in the simulators.

Very interesting to see through the years their progress and innovation to keep up with changes. Love the HUGE truck you get to stand by. Mostly though it's the retired employees who answer all your questions that make this so enjoyable.

So much to see, my boys love explore all the equipment. And learning how thier favorite brand came born. We came at thier 100 year celebration. So we got to see what the furture holds for caterpillar.
Jocelyn C — Google review
Very welcoming visitors center staffed primarily by former employees who are happy to share their experiences and history of the machine giant. The displays are not only impressive, but also provide historical insight into the designs and company culture. Fun videos plus interactive simulators (slightly addictive!) and giant yellow stuff! Nice gift shop with unique items.

Hiking area
Nestled between the Illinois River and Downtown Peoria, Forest Park Nature Center is a sprawling 540-acre nature preserve offering a variety of attractions. Visitors can explore over seven miles of hiking and biking trails, observe more than 100 bird species, and visit a natural history museum. The park's diverse scenery includes prairies and woodlands, providing an urban escape for nature enthusiasts. Additionally, the peaceful environment is home to abundant wildlife such as deer, chipmunks, and squirrels.
Really liked this one! They have a choose your own path kind of thing going on. You have a choice every couple of tenths of a mile to decide which way you want to go. Well marked and clean. Some paths more rigorous than others. Also a nature center with plants and stuffed animals. Free!
Christopher B — Google review
First time visiting and the trails are so much fun to walk and look at all the different wildlife and birds! We were able to see many birds and even three deer! There were many squirrels running around as well. Very well, maintain trails and a lot of active people walking them. Need to come back when the nature center is open so that way we can go inside and see what it’s all about. Great for families and everyone of all ages.
Shan B — Google review
On a beautiful sunny day this nature preserve offers plenty of shade under the canopy of the fully grown trees. There is a nice sized parking lot for plenty of cars, but I would not try to pull an RV or Semi in there. It is wheelchair friendly nature center and park, but the trails may be tricky. Some trails have stairs and uneven pathways. The nature center is smaller, but full of interesting facts about indigenous animals. There even have a few on display! They hold some different classes and guided hikes at times. There is a bathroom and gift shopping with snacks inside. The trails are well marked and there is a map at the beginning of the trail. They have light, medium l, and rigorous trail paths depending on the level you would like to walk. There is plenty of wildlife out there. Just make sure to stay on the trail and leave the wildlife alone. The location is convenient and quiet. So enjoy the serene nature around you.
Nicole B — Google review
This is a beautiful place to hike or just enjoy some peaceful time outdoors. Hiking trails are excellent and very well-maintained, and are challenging enough to get a solid workout. This is a true gem around Peoria!
FFKDTP1 — Google review
First time hiking a trail here. We did the Pimiteoui trail (NOTE: IT'S ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE PARKING LOT AT THE NATURE CENTER SO YOU HAVE TO LOOK FOR IT) and it was challenging but stunning. It's not straight up. It's up and down in both directions. Very well maintained but keep an eye out for poison ivy. My watch calculated 640 ft of climb and a little over 2.5 miles round trip on the route we took. There appeared to be several side trails but we didn't explore them. Next time we'll try a couple and see where they end up. When the trees have leaves, 80% of the trail is shaded. Bring water no matter what time of year and make sure you don't need a bathroom. When you get to the top, you're on Grandview Drive which is where the photos were taken. Great spot to enjoy the view on a bench and chug some water. I wouldn't hike the day after a rain because the trail would definitely be slippery. We met a few other hikers going both directions but this was on a Friday around noon. I imagine you'll encounter quite a few others on the weekends or holidays. If you don't want something this challenging, they have several other trails that are rather flat but you won't get the reward of an amazing view of Peoria Lake.

Such a beautiful park. I’ve been here countless times and have loved every experience. This is a well taken care of nature preserve. Because it’s a nature preserve, no pets are allowed. There are lots of deer, chipmunks, turkey, and other kinds of birds. There are multiple trails to choose from and they are well marked. I love to come here to photograph birds and deer especially. And if you listen to anything I say, come here in the fall!!
Elayna T — Google review
Absolutely love the trails here, trails for every level of fitness and I always see wildlife! So many deer! Go on a weekday if you want to see them 😉
Jennifer H — Google review
Best part of all, dogs are prohibited!!!! Beautiful, scenic park. Extremely well maintained trails. Fun for kids to explore the area. The volunteers in the Nature Center were very friendly and helpful. Parking was adequate when we got there, but by the time we left, it was packed. Recommend getting their early on nice weather days.

Stopped here to stretch our legs on a road trip and see a little botanical beauty. We spent probably half an hour touring the green house and grounds. Don't look for extensive collections or a good hiking workout. It's small, but it's free and very nice.

Nice free walk through. Can be quick or take as long as you want. Conveniently next to zoo and massive park!

Not the nicest botanical garden I’ve been to, but admittance is free! Saw a ground hog and a giant spider.

Pretty little garden! It's perfect for a small outing or refresh on a long road trip. There are lots of little nooks and crannies to discover if you follow all the paths. The general surrounding area is a bit run down, but it was tucked back and out of the way, so it didn't feel unsafe. There is no cost. You just walk in. They also had a cute reading nook with books for a wide age range. Very thoughtful touch!

The Peoria Civic Center is a prominent and spacious venue that has been hosting a wide variety of events and performances for many years. It is home to the Peoria Rivermen ice hockey team and the Bradley University Braves basketball team, making it a popular spot for sports enthusiasts. Additionally, the center features a theater, exhibit hall, and numerous meeting rooms, providing ample space for various types of gatherings.
This is one of the best venues for music. I've seen all sorts of musical acts, the Peoria Rivermen. Tonight was Shinedown with Beartooth. They have returned to Peoria multiple times. The seating is something of the best. The acoustics are awesome, and you get a real show and very intimate performances. It has never disappointed from the pit to the upper decks.

We've been to a lot of events here at the Peoria Civic Center and they never do disappoint! We've been in several different parts of the building seeing different events and honestly we've never even had a bad seat. We've been in the Prairie Home Alliance theater quite a bit and seen a lot of great concerts there. You are able to buy tickets at the box office an hour before the show starts if you didn't buy them online already. Hope you're able to come check out some of the events that they host because I always enjoy the time I'm here! I really miss going to the women's lifestyle show that was discontinued a few years back but we've been to plenty of sales, concerts, car shows, monster truck, plays Etc there are just so many different things going on just get on the website and check it out!

Our first time at the Peoria Civic Center and it's a great place to see a concert or any other venues! We saw headliner Shinedown. Great show, great sound. Would I do it again, yes.

The arena section is cool. Some decent little food stalls and drink options. Be aware if you're parking in the Marquee area don't expect to get out right away unless you drive aggressive like every other person tries to do. It took about 20-25 minutes to leave because all the cars trying to be bumper to bumper. Everything else was great.

This place is pretty great to see shows at. We have been a few times and always have a great time! Easy to find your seat, staff friendly and helpful, parking is about a block away and across the street for like $5 so that's not bad at all. Security does a good job too. We have zero complaints and will continue to see our shows here. Great local venue for sure!!
H C — Google review
We've attended many events here from basketball and hockey games to concerts, plays, banquets and now high-school and college graduations. Ample parking, accessible bathrooms, easy to get around inside and out.

With Bradley games and other concerts, I am at the civic center atleast 20 times a year. This place is truly a staple of the community. They have made several improvement to the arena lately.
David N — Google review
I’ve been here a many times and have never thought to write a review until today. I’ve been here for more concerts than I can remember, plays, performances and all sorts of things. Today I came to the Peoria Comic & Toy Convention with two of my best friends. Not our first one, definitely not our last. Everyone and everything was great. This place has been a house of memories for me and I hope to continue making memories here as time rolls on. Cheers 🍻

My old stomping grounds growing up. So I took two of my grandkids to the Heights to see it feom on top of the tower! Was so special and a nice area to hang out and tell a few stories about the Heights back in the day!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tower Park – Peoria Heights Tower Park is such a hidden gem in Peoria Heights! 🌳✨ Whether you’re visiting for the panoramic views or just looking for a peaceful place to unwind, this park delivers a perfect blend of beauty, history, and charm. The highlight is definitely the observation tower — standing at over 200 feet tall, it gives you a stunning 360° view of the Illinois River Valley, the city skyline, and miles of lush countryside. It’s especially breathtaking around sunset when the sky lights up over the water. 🌅 The surrounding park area is clean, well-maintained, and ideal for families or couples. There are picnic tables, a small playground, and plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the view. The location is alsogreat — just steps away from downtown Peoria Heights, so you can grab a coffee, ice cream, or dinner after exploring. It’s a peaceful, affordable, and scenic stop — whether you’re local or just passing through, Tower Park is absolutely worth a visit. 🏞️

Has a playground for kids. Soft rubber ground cover for comfort. I believe you can go up in the tower. It happened to be closed today. Looks like it'd have excellent views.

This is a nice little park. I would like to go again earlier in the day and when I have more time to explore. I am terrified of heights, but chose to go up anyway. Boy-Howdy am I glad I did!! It was only $3 and I stayed to the back of the elevator. I took my time going up the staircases to the tippity top. I couldn't go to the rail, but still enjoyed the views. Breathtaking!!

Nestled in the lush surroundings of upper Bradley Park, Corn Stock Theatre is a thriving community theater that offers a diverse array of productions throughout the year. The venue features a large big top tent for summer shows and a permanent building for winter performances as part of the Winter Playhouse Program. In addition to adult productions, there are also two annual children's productions and a summer workshop for young people aged 7 to 18.
My husband and I went to see the wonderful production of Mousetrap at Cornstock last night. The actors did a fabulous job. I loved how the show started promptly on time and there's really no bad seat in the house. The set was fantastic as well. This was our first time attending a show, but we will certainly be back for future shows!

Went to see the Sinatra outdoor summer showcase on Friday night and it was absolutely amazing! It lasted around 2 hours but only felt like 45 minutes! My boyfriend loves Sinatra, as do I, and he said that this was the most realistic performance he’s heard and it was very impressive. The singers were so talented, I haven’t heard such good voices live in forever! We loved it so much and will probably be seeing this same performance again! Highly recommend!!

Laura Bradley Park, established in 1864, is a large natural area spanning 100 acres. It was a generous gift to the city of Peoria from Lydia Moss Bradley in honor of her daughter. Adjacent to Bradley University, this park offers diverse attractions such as sports facilities, play equipment, and an off-leash dog park. The landscape features high bluff woodlands and a traditional Japanese garden.
Beautiful place to walk, swing, observe wildlife, & be in awe of nature. Cool bridge over water & plentiful parking. It's got a disk golf course too! The bathrooms are a little uncomfy but if you don't mind that, you could spend all day there! (There's a more private bathroom w small stalls on the upper level by the theater i believe) They take gazebo reservations i think, too.

A wonderful place to enjoy nature. It’s got great changes in elevation, different kinds of wildlife like deer, fox, many types of birds, and our favorite: groundhogs. We love walking our dog all around. Also the frisbee golf course and the corn stock theater, dog park and lots of picnic areas, sand volleyball, baseball diamonds etc.
Nilesh T — Google review
This park is HUGE! there's multiple playgrounds, tennis courts, trails, all kinds of things. There are multiple ways in, lots of parking. Two dog parks are way in the back (to the right). There's a huge area for big dogs with toys and a smaller area for little dogs. Both dog parks have benches and a water bowl for dogs with a way to fill it. There are poop bags supplied. Beautiful architecture is throughout the park with Japanese style arches.

The Peoria PlayHouse is a colorful museum designed for kids. It boasts interactive exhibits and play areas that relate to art, science, and music. Visitors can learn about farm life and agriculture, as well as how water moves. The craft rooms are incredible, and there's even a playhouse with baby dolls inside the play kitchen that toddlers love. The museum is clean, well-organized, and offers picnic tables nearby for visitors to have lunch.
We had the Playhouse reserved for a family event through Skip Along child development where the families could come in and enjoy some time together. I was quite impressed with the things that the playhouse had to offer and it's definitely a great place to bring your kiddos so they can explore and learn some things! I absolutely love all the different activity centers that they had were the kiddos had things that they could interact with like the piano bridge, the water table, the train track, and the ballroom. So much fun stuff to do and I highly recommend bringing your child!

Brought my kids today, on a Wednesday, during our spring break (different week than most schools) and everything seemed broken and out of order. The "Motion Commotion" ball machine was broken, and air pressure was low for other tubes in that area. The water table seemed low on water, and all tubes and most water toys were removed. My son put the smock on and instantly took it off upon realizing there wasn't anything fun to do in the water without the flow tubes. The art/craft rooms were closed - looked like there was a meeting in one, and another room had some moms in it just chatting (I can't remember if these were normally open in the past or if I'm confusing it with Bloomington that has a nice craft room always open). The Real Tools room was closed when we arrived around 10:15... it wasn't until we were ready to leave later that we saw it was finally open - it would have been nice to know when things like that are available... I didn't see it on the website. The Theatre exhibit only had some hand puppets in the big dress-up/props chest. The batteries were dead for the circuit light challenge... or the circuits just didn't work. I tried all of them myself and couldn't get them to work. The battery compartments look like they could use a good cleaning or replacement. The top of the chicken coop climb was locked - so my kids had to climb back down after climbing up. Seems like a strange thing to lock - another set of parents near us were confused on why it was locked as well. I honestly couldn't believe they were charging people full price to come there today. This will probably be the last time we visit, seeing as my children are starting to outgrow what they have to offer at 6 and 8-years-old. Not knowing if everything (especially things for the older kids) is going to be working or open when visiting makes it quite the gamble of our time and money going forward.

We are from Michigan and this was one of my favorite things about our vacation to Peoria. The staff was super friendly, the place was clean (we got there as they were unlocking the doors) they have "yuck" buckets for food toys that kids thought were real (my son thought the pretend food tasted better than my food 😂) It's also right next to the zoo and a park which was extremely awesome for us. They have specific areas for toddlers so they don't run over the big kids. 10/10 highly recommend, this place is awesome.
Aurora ( — Google review
It's advertised as 3 floors of fun but it's really only 2. The third floor simply doesn't have anything to do. We visited on 4/27/2024 with a 1 and 2 year old. Both were entertained and seemed to have a decent time. I think it should have been cheaper for the 2 year old but overall the prices are in line with every other expensive post Covid price these days.

My son had an absolute blast! His favorite thing was the river that's downstairs it was so hard to pull him away from it to check everything out! But he also loved the fossil area! He had fun building a dinosaur and digging in the sand! We went on a members day but they thankfully still let us in

This is a great spot to spend several hours with a busy toddler. There are so many different play areas that appeal to different interests. My 2yo loves the kinetic sand area upstairs & the train & water play areas downstairs. It’s directly next to the Peoria zoo so if you really want to make a full day of fun, you can easily visit both.

I absolutely love this place. I bought a membership for my grandkids and added a caregiver so the parents can take them too. There is so much to do and learn. From farm life, and learning about agriculture, to learning how water moves. Making movies and the craft rooms are incredible. My two year old granddaughter loves the playhouse and asks to see the baby dolls that are in the play kitchen. It’s clean very well organized, the membership literally pays for itself in just a few trips. There are picnic tables nearby to go out and have a picnic. There are two playgrounds nearby and the Peoria zoo. Well worth coming for a visit!

The Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria, IL is an impressive venue with a 125,000 square-foot domed roof and a 1,300-seat stadium. It offers 10 synthetic turf fields for baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball and other sports. The complex also hosts non-sporting events like trade shows. The Slugger Dome houses two synthetic softball fields and ten volleyball courts for year-round action.
This is as nice of a complex as I have every experienced, fields are top notch, concessions had all kinds of options including beer and seltzers. No need to bring your own chair, plenty of seating with great viewing angles.
Andrew P — Google review
I had a very disappointing experience at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex. The facility is poorly managed, with overly restrictive rules that hindered our enjoyment. The cost is significantly overpriced for the quality provided. Nearby hotels, often recommended for tournaments, were exorbitantly priced and had serious hygiene issues, including ant infestations. Most concerning, the umpires were unprofessional, openly ridiculing our players, which created a negative environment. I hope management addresses these issues to improve future experiences for visitors.
Randi W — Google review
The no coolers and no wagons is ridiculous on 90 plus temperature days. It's a nice facility but it's not fan friendly for that reason. Also been going for 6 plus years and not 1 new hotel has been added nearby. Big thumbs down on that too.
H S — Google review
The complex is nice but they are getting out of hand with costs and rules. The stay to play guidelines put our team in the Hilton Embassy which was a terrible experience. The group rate was $300/night and the hotel is in subpar condition. The hotel management his not accommodating at all for the groups they are hosting. The Louisville complex is almost completely cashless but imposes a processing fee to use your card. After all the other fees it's was $13 per day for each adult or $23 each for the weekend plus a swipe fee. It costs my family $700 this weekend to stay to play and we were forced to spend a night confined to our rooms because of an issue at the hotel with another parent and the hotel staff. Would not recommend Louisville slugger and most certainly wouldn't stay at Hilton Embassy in East Peoria.
Jordan S — Google review
Nice facility. Pretty expensive to get in. Main complaint is not letting coaches have wagons. They could give a coach a tag to put on wagon and check it before entry. They have a lot of equipment and sometimes have to park pretty far away. Carrying buckets, tees, heavy’s and whatever else they have plus if they have kids or husbands/wife’s then they have chairs etc. Louisville is not very accommodating. I understand it letting everyone have wagons but head coach should be able to get a tag and be allowed 1 wagon per team.

While there is a wide variety of things to do at this facility, if you are looking for a gym, this is not the place that should come to mind. Seeing all the amenities this facility has, it is obvious that the gym/weight room is not a priority. Old equipment and a small area to workout is what you should expect. Most of the staff seem nice but have come across some that are rude. Decent family facility, with kids but not a go to gym facility.

The RiverPlex Recreation and Wellness Center in Peoria, IL, stands out as a multifaceted fitness and recreational hub. Its location along the scenic riverfront adds to its appeal, creating a pleasant environment for workouts and activities. Here's a breakdown of what makes it noteworthy: * Diverse Facilities: * The RiverPlex offers a wide range of amenities, including a well-equipped fitness center, swimming pools, basketball courts, and even a climbing wall. This variety caters to diverse fitness interests. * The wellness services offered in conjunction with OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, provide a medically based approach to fitness, which is a very positive aspect. * Community Focus: * It serves as a valuable community asset, promoting health and wellness for residents of Peoria and the surrounding areas. * Mixed Reviews: * Some online reviews highlight occasional issues, such as inconsistencies with website information regarding facility hours and the status of certain amenities. * Also some reviews mention issues with the app associated with the facility. * However, many users praise the quality of the equipment and the overall facility. * Partnerships: * The partnership with the YMCA is an added benefit for members. In summary, the RiverPlex provides a comprehensive fitness experience, though potential visitors should be aware of the occasional inconsistencies reported in online reviews.

Decent facility. Staff is mostly nice, have came across just a few that are rude. However my biggest issue is that my son goes to play basketball. He set his beats headphones down on the bleachers and someone somehow stole them while he was close by on the court. I left a very detailed message for the head of security of what court, what time and day it happened. You’d think they have cameras and every person has to check in, it should be easily rectified… nope never even got a call back or acknowledgement, sorry that happened we're looking into it… nothing. So don’t go here thinking these people care anything about what happens to your items while at their facility.

They went from charging $7 fee for use of pool, to now $20 fee to use a run down nasty community pool. The kids area is all broken to to where kids can't even use the one slide they have. Pathetic!!!!

An incredible facility for health and fun. They have multiple swimming areas which include lap pools and lazy rivers and of course the water slides and kids play area. They also have a very clean workout rooms and locker rooms. One of my favorite things about this place is the view of the Illinois River while you are there. The back side facing the river is pretty much a wall full of Windows which makes for a beautiful scenery while having fun or working out.

In addition to transportation history, visitors can explore exhibits featuring toys, bicycles, musical instruments, clocks, tools from various eras and vintage clothing.
Thank you so much to Bill S. for giving us a tour! The museum is a lot larger than it appears from the roadside with plenty to explore. Vintage cars, clocks, machinery, farm equipment, fire department equipment, models of riverboats, and much more. This was an amazing experience and we will definitely be back to explore again.

Nearly everything inside the museum not only works, but they encourage you to touch and experience. Kudos to the team of people that undoubtedly keep up on repairs and maintenance of all the treasures within so that future guests can enjoy and experience. A friend and I went together and we had so much fun, I will return and recommend!! The one notable thing I was disappointed to see was no fire sprinkler systems anywhere, and I only recall seeing one fire extinguisher in a conspicuous location. It worries me because obviously there is a ton of old and cool stuff, with many, many, many little wires of power supplied to it all so that it functions. I kept thinking that a single spark could ignite the whole place and this gem would be gone from Peoria. Bonus feature - the steel house was such a fun and interesting exhibit, that after our visit we went in search of other existing steel houses in Peoria Heights and were ecstatic when we found 5 of them!

We could not see out very well and the people in the back could not hear the woman who was giving the tour. Most of the time the lady told us information about the city of Peoria and she just touched on the haunted places on the tour. The couple across from my daughter and I also didn't know which building she was talking about as we drove down the road not being able to see out. My daughter who is 17 continued to ask me which house she was talking about and I had to say," I have no idea". The speaker that the lady was using would also screech when she put it to close to her mouth because people in the back said they couldn't hear her. I really wish I hadn't spent the $15 each. Also the trolley ride was to be an hour and a half. It was an hour, but at this point we both just wanted off the CityLink bus. I have been on the trolley ride that starts in the Heights and the man who did that had a wealth of information and I would highly suggest that tour. But if the trolley is broken and they send a CityLink bus.....DON'T GET ON AND WASTE YOUR MONEY! Happy Halloween.

I had volunteered at the Pettengille-Morron house museum for two years. It's a gorgeous home. They rent it out for weddings, baby showers, bridal showers etc.

The staff there are always eager to help and very professional. It's also a great place to get to know about Peorias history.
