Meadowbrook Park is a 130-acre expanse located in the southern part of Urbana. It was acquired by the city in stages since 1967 and features a variety of attractions, including a farm, play structure, restored prairie, gardens, and trails. The park's landscape includes recreated tallgrass prairie with winding trails and the Wandell Sculpture Garden.
Traveling with my dog (Labor Day weekend), this was a great road trip stop to stretch and enjoy a walk through the park with nicely paved paths. I parked in the Race Street lot and then stayed for an hour, to include: Hickman Wildflower Walk, Wandell Sculpture Garden loop, and back down the Wildflower Walk to the restroom and back to the car. Plan more time if you have kids with you (there's a playground) and/or if you want to walk the loop around the entire park.

This park is absolutely fantastic! Fun for every age! Rest areas. Restrooms. Handicap-accessible play equipment. There's even a wheelchair, stroller-friendly sculpture trail nearby! So happy we visited this wonderful park!!
Rebecca V — Google review
They redid the park recently and updated it from the old wooden one to make it more safe and kid friendly. It is a fantastic park, very large and tons of things to do. They also have a ton of walking paths around the park.

I love it here. Nice and peaceful. I saw beautiful art. One of the best parks Ive seen ❤️
Kei S — Google review
This park is amazing. There are several sculptures and aesthetic structures along the path. The walking path is also huge. I wish I knew here before. This place is a hidden gem.
Berkay K — Google review
A nice park with many artistic structures. This park is very close to Orchard Downs university housing. There is a big walking loop with a track.
Vidya K — Google review
This is a great trail for walking, jogging, or biking. I walked the 1.55 mile trail almost every day I was visiting my family. Not too busy at 7 am. Saw deer almost every day.
Steve A — Google review
It's an Art / Nature mashup. Beautiful paved trail through stunning prairie. In summertime the prairie is a rainbow of wildflowers and berries. Large sculptures from a variety of artist scattered all throughout. Such a nice place to walk and run. Also features small sections of wetlands, stream, several side trails, pavilion, porta potty (👍), and large wooden playground.

Museums
Krannert Art Museum, located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, is a vibrant hub for contemporary international arts. It boasts a permanent collection of over 10,000 works dating back to 4 BC, showcasing diverse cultures and artistic expressions. The museum features changing exhibits in various media and offers free entry. With its rich array of art from different periods and regions, it's a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts.
We recently visited this museum, which focuses primarily on contemporary art, and had a wonderful experience despite some galleries from the permanent collection being closed for renovations. The temporary exhibitions and available galleries more than made up for it and we spent about one hour enjoying the art. The collection of African artifacts, particularly the masks, was fascinating and helped us gain a deeper understanding of their cultural significance. We also appreciated the opportunity to view a rare, smaller Rothko and admired the works of Chilean artist Roberto Matta, whose pieces added a unique perspective to the museum’s offerings. One highlight was how clearly the museum labeled its new acquisitions. This provided valuable insights into emerging trends and artists shaping the contemporary art landscape. We were especially interested in the art for social change exhibition and seeing art from black artists. The section on lesbian perspectives stood out as intriguing and educational, offering a window into diverse experiences. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and maps and brochures were available to guide us through the exhibits. Admission is free, with donations encouraged. Public parking is available in front of the museum with special permit, though not required during the weekends. The museum also has water fountains and comfortable, clean restrooms. We highly recommend this museum and hope to come back soon!!
Yessie H — Google review
Absolutely amazing! This art museum was well put together and you could see the care that the team puts in to the preservation of the collections. There was a very cool Mediterranean exhibit downstairs, but overall, all of the artwork was interesting. A special shoutout to the staff all who were helpful and friendly. We were visiting from out of the state and they helped us to navigate some logistics.

Krannert Art Museum is a fantastic place to visit, and it's worth checking their opening hours before you go. The guides there are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, which adds to the overall experience. The museum itself is quite spacious, with numerous lounge rooms to explore. During our visit, we had a great time completing a scavenger hunt at the museum, although the real reward was immersing ourselves in the rich history it offers. My favorite sections were the fine Greek, Egyptian, and Renaissance art; they truly captured my heart! When you're there, make sure to read the captions accompanying the artworks, as they provide valuable insights into the portraits and enhance your understanding and appreciation of them. It is free to get in, however it’s worth donating to. ☺️
Angelena S — Google review
This museum is a hidden gem in Champaign. 🎨 From the moment you walk in, you're embraced by a calm and creative atmosphere. The exhibits are super diverse, ranging from contemporary art to pieces from distant cultures. Plus, the admission is free, making it even more accessible. Perfect for a cultural outing with friends or a relaxed solo visit.
Alonso M — Google review
A jewel of a little museum. It is a nice way to spend a couple of hours looking at a variety of art. I last visited this museum in the 70's and it greatly influenced my love for art today.
Lynda — Google review
DO NOT visit the museum. It was a waste of my time. There is no information anywhere to know that there are only TWO galleries open. Everything else is closed for "renovations". Again, I was not aware of this information till I had gotten there. It is not stated on the website at all. I drove from Chicago to Champaign thinking I would have access to a full museum. On top of that, I had to pay for parking which was ridiculously complicated. The meters do not take coins, you have to download a third party app just to pay. Very annoying. It felt cramped and uncomfortable. The only galleries that are open are very small. When I visited, there were probably 6 other people and that was enough to overstimulate me. On top of that, you have the security guards following you. Do not recommend going until the whole museum is open.
Brandon G — Google review
virtually everything a person with a brain/some taste might want to see is off limits until early next year. not worth a visit until early 2025 edit: it's almost August (i.e., summer) so now there's signs up saying most of it'll be open again... in the summer... which is right now. they were building something (drilling/hammering) during open hours while I visited, making it very difficult to contemplate the minimal art available.
M — Google review
There's no free parking here, and it costs $1.70 an hour, how greedy of the university. Edit: You also have to pay via third party, the parking meters themselves don't actually function. You don't simply put coins into a thing, you have to download an app, create an account, register your vehicle, and pay an additional fee to the third party, just to visit this museum without your car being towed. Second edit: The app you have to use to pay for the overpriced parking doesn't even accept Google Pay, or PayPal, or maybe even credit cards? Been attempting to get it to work for 20 minutes, but I guess I'm just going to leave. Very disappointing, because obviously parking should never have cost money here to begin with.

The Spurlock Museum, also known as the Clarice V. Spurlock Museum, is an ethnographic museum located at the University of Illinois. Established in 1911, it houses a vast collection of over 51,000 artifacts from various cultural heritages and geographic regions. The museum's exhibits showcase ancient Egyptian art, Mediterranean works, modern African art, East Asian artifacts, European pieces, Mesopotamian objects, and items from the Americas.
This museum is absolutely amazing! We explored all the galleries with fascinating art from all over the world, but were excited to see those from Ancient Mediterranean and the Americas. It was outstanding. The museum offers a wealth of history and culture. We enjoyed learning about Latin American art, including fascinating pieces from Bolivia (with a surprise of a sensory experience!). The Native American art displays were equally impressive, showcasing the richness and depth of their traditions. A standout feature of the museum was the interactive screens, which provided detailed insights into rare objects, such as a fragment of the letter of James from the New Testament. We also loved listening to music created with ancient versions of violins and other string instruments, which added an immersive element to our visit. Admission is free, and parking on the street is free on weekends. There are puffs and cushions in the galleries to have a moment of gentle rest. The facilities were spotless, and I greatly appreciated the availability of sanitary pads in the restrooms—a thoughtful touch. The staff were incredibly kind and friendly. We deeply enjoyed our visit and highly recommend this museum for anyone interested in history, culture, and art!

Nice and tidy museum at UIUC. There's no section on India in Asia section, which is very surprising. Maybe the Museum should get some funding to add an India specific section and that would be nice.
Shashank B — Google review
A really great place to visit if you are at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. They have different sections according to continent and a great collection. Place is free for anyone.
Shafiqul S — Google review
Smaller, but splendid, museum with LOTS of varying exhibits, artifacts, and traditional ethnic garments of various cultures from around the world. In addition to special exhibits, the museum houses 9 permanent exhibits, They are organized by geography and cover hundreds, if not thousands, of years of human history from North, Central, and South America and the Ancient Mediterranean. On the 2nd floor are East Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa, Ancient Mesopotamia, and Ancient Egypt.

Spent about 30 minutes here, wish I’d had more time! It’s full of unique items and history. Free to enter, although donations and encouraged. I went on a Saturday afternoon, right before closing, and it was almost completely empty and very quiet! Exhibits are (mostly) based on regions of the world. I especially appreciated the effort of transparency with where the artifacts were acquired, although I’m not sure if there’s been any pressures or requests for returning items.
Aditi N — Google review
For a decent sized city, this museum is pretty large. They have activities you can do for fun, while also teaching you about the artifacts and cultures. They have different exhibits and their statues are really cool.
Lydia Z — Google review
This was a great little museum. If it's free it's for me! My oldest son loved the mummy they had on display. They showed pictures too of what they thought the mummy looked like if he/she was still alive. Many of the items they had on display were replicas, but just as fun to look at. I wouldn't say a great place for young children. Easy to sound an hour here.
Will — Google review
Not bad at all! Only 5% of their collections (artifacts, sculptures etc) are on display due to the space crisis. What a shame! There are no entry fees, however, it’s my request to everyone to donate as much as you can so that they can keep up the good work for years to come.

Japan House, located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is a unique facility that aims to promote cultural understanding and appreciation for diverse traditions. It focuses on Japanese aesthetics and traditional arts, with a special emphasis on Chado, the Way of Tea. Visitors can experience authentic tea ceremonies and tours on Thursdays and during special events. The surrounding Dry and Tea Gardens offer a serene atmosphere to explore exotic aesthetics.
Review written 12/28/2024. It’s like a slice of heaven. Absolutely beautiful area to walk. Strikingly gorgeous. Feels like walking out of central Illinois into Japan. Lots of birds singing in the trees, very well kept trees and landscaping. Pretty sculptures. A downside of this area is there’s no portapotty or bathroom in sight so if you need to use the restroom, plan accordingly. Another downside is that sometimes you can smell the nearby farm animals manure in the air when walking here. But overall this is a beautiful and unique place.
C R — Google review
The garden looks very beautiful and peaceful. It is free to see the garden and I would give it 5 stars. However, I would never recommend their tea ceremonies. Although we had to pay $17 for the student tickets, which I would happily pay to attend a good tea ceremony, they were not even wearing traditional clothing such as kimono, which is a minimum expectation from this cultural event. Also, the host did not seem to be nice to everyone (at least to us) and did not have a welcoming attitude. They seemed to be in a rush to finish the show as well. I would expect a much better effort from people presenting the culture of a country, especially a country like Japan with such a rich culture.

Just a sense of peace and tranquility every time I visit, especially in the early morning with fewer people around to just enjoy the calm and beautiful gardens.

Yearly tradition to see these trees blossom. No matter the weather, it is worth the trip. Pay attention to their website for appropriate timing as to what days are best for viewing. But if you haven’t been hear in the spring time, definitely make a point to stop by. There is a lot of walking paths, and lots of koi fish populated in the waters on-site. Glad to see this area has been getting the care and preservation that it deserves. Already looking forward to next year.

Best place in University area. Good place for running, walking, cycling and enjoying the nature. You can play free hand games on the opened premises. Good place for walking pets. In winter, you can skate on ice on the hills.

Very lucky to have an April Wedding on the U of I campus with the Japanese cherry blossoms in bloom!

An amazing place at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign campus. Nice walking trail, lots of trees as well as flowers. This year it is exceptional that we didn't see lots of fall colors here. In the previous few years, there were mesmerizing fall colors. Throughout the year, this place is so calm and beautiful. The Japan house always makes me feel refreshed and energized. Absolute beauty and must visit here in the Urbana-Champaign area.

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, home to the Fighting Illini, is a renowned research university with its own airport and a sprawling 160-acre arboretum. The campus, located between Urbana and Champaign, offers a delightful blend of historic architecture and public art. Visitors can explore the Main Quad's elegant landscaping, tree-lined avenues, and grand Liberal Arts and Sciences buildings.
I was in UIUC to see off my Nephew. The university campus is humongous . The college buildings are awesome , transport system within the university is great(sometimes it takes a long time), there are dedicated bike lanes and accessibility access almost all places they boast the biggest engineering library . The orientation program was good and informative, people seem efficient and I am sure teaching staff is also great There are quite a few frat houses and student quarters around the university The restaurant selection is great and the university also has multiple on campus food court, and surprisingly have a lot of good vegetarian options as well Students who really want to learn well can do wonders. Great place to study and enjoy

Fantastic place to go to if your pet is having a medical emergency. I'm not even going to bother anymore calling my veterinarian when this happens since they always make you wait several days. Staff is very polite and genuinely concerned for the animals welfare.

As a parent, it’s that time when we help our children make decisions about the next phase of their lives. For me, sending my child off to college at UIUC was one of the most emotional moments. On the first day, I couldn’t help but cry as I left her on campus, much like I did when I dropped her off at kindergarten. The feeling of letting go is never easy, but looking back, I can say with certainty that UIUC was a wonderful choice for her. From the very beginning, the campus and community have offered incredible support and opportunities. The professors and lecturers are amazing—engaging and truly invested in their students’ success. There’s always academic help available, whether it’s through tutoring, office hours, or student groups that offer additional support. I was always impressed by how approachable and willing the faculty were to help students succeed. What stands out most, though, is the sense of safety and care on campus. There’s always someone available to help, even late at night, whether you’re walking around and need assistance or have a concern. UIUC truly seems committed to the well-being of all its students. For those of you wondering about religious and cultural connections, there is a Hindu temple just 10 minutes away from campus, providing a sense of community and belonging for students who want that connection. To other parents considering sending their child to UIUC, I want to assure you—it’s a fantastic campus. Don’t worry. The support, education, and experiences your child will have are priceless. You can rest easy knowing they’re in good hands!
Vetri M — Google review
It's ok. Campus is very large and seemed like it needed a lot of work. I understand that it's an old university, but with all of the graffiti, seemed like we were walking around Dailey college in the city. Felt very unsafe. We had a tour and intro for the college for possible incoming Freshman, and we has to park on the street and pay rather than park in the parking lot (for staff only) that was right behind the place where the presentation was being held. And, the lot was practically empty. We asked about where we could eat lunch on campus, and the tour guide told us the eat at the dining hall, so we did. $14 per person later we found out that 95% of the food options were not available/closed. So we had options of veggie burgers, turkey corn dogs, and pizza that was worse than frozen pizza. They say that you experience the Freshman 15 and gain 15 pounds, but with these limited food options it seems like you won't have a problem with that. Send your kid here instead of fat camp to lose weight. Poorly run Freshman presentation and amenities. Tuition is very high even for in state students.

My Alma Mater and forever my home. The U of I was a fantastic experience overall. Met friends for a lifetime, taught by brilliant professors, and indescribable opportunities.
Jonathan W — Google review
Let’s call it like it is: UIUC doesn’t just compete — it dominates. In engineering, computer science, agriculture, and business, it’s a national powerhouse with global reach. This is where Fortune 500 recruiters go hunting, where innovation is the baseline, not the goal. You don’t just attend Illinois — you level up there. UIUC is for the builders. The doers. The ones who don’t just dream — they design, calculate, code, and deliver. It’s home to Nobel laureates, Turing Award winners, and world-changing startups. The Grainger College of Engineering alone outpaces entire universities. The Gies College of Business? Modern, aggressive, and built for the real world. Let’s not kid ourselves: UC Davis can’t touch that. UC Davis sells itself as laid-back excellence. But in reality? It’s a fog of overhype. It talks the talk but limps through the walk. Underwhelming outcomes, lackluster academic energy, and a culture that discourages edge or initiative. You don’t get sharpened — you get smoothed out, filed down, and boxed in. Meanwhile, UIUC puts steel in your spine. You’re surrounded by peers who bring the heat, professors who challenge you to produce, not just parrot, and opportunities that actually lead somewhere. Want to intern at Tesla, Amazon, or Google? That pipeline runs right through Champaign-Urbana. The ROI? Massive. UIUC consistently ranks among the top public schools for return on investment, and grads don’t just find jobs — they’re recruited. In tech, finance, engineering, and research, the UIUC name carries real weight. UC Davis? A shrug, at best. And let’s be honest — the Midwest may not have California’s zip code, but it has grit, affordability, and focus. No fluff, no flash — just results. At UIUC, you’re not just another number crammed into a lecture hall. You’re a talent investment — and it shows. So here’s the truth: UIUC gives you tools. UC Davis gives you traffic and bureaucracy. UIUC builds leaders. UC Davis breeds compliance. Choose fire over fog. Choose Illinois…
Carlos S — Google review
Visited for a quiz bowl competition but almost all sidewalks were coated in ice which made it quite treacherous to walk anywhere. Seems a northern school would take more care in winter safety. Other than that it was pretty interesting with the old style architecture compared to my university.

Crystal Lake Park in Urbana is a stunning waterside park that offers a variety of activities for visitors. The park features seasonal boat rentals, a fishing pier, picnic sites, and ball fields. It is situated on the banks of a beautiful serpentine lake with opportunities for fishing and boating. Additionally, the park includes attractions such as the Anita Purves Nature Center, mature urban forest, a labyrinth, a Lake House, pavilions, and a children's playground.
I almost go to this place everyday or at least every week as always because I live near by. It is a great place to killing time or just break from my busy time of remote work, to get a fresh air. Walking around this place is my favorite. Also love the Busey Wood trail. Such a blessing for me to live near this place. The playground also clean and our son loves play around there.
Winda S — Google review
Usually quiet and peaceful. Never over crowded. You can rent paddle boats. There's plenty of open space for picnics. Shaded areas with trees. Gease roam around, they stick to the water for the most part. It's near public roads, so you will hear city transitate sounds and because it's so close to the hospital, you will see and hear helicopters and other military aircrafts.
Susana P — Google review
Crystal Lake Park has it all. There is a great nature center with an accessible boardwalk hiking trail through the woods, playground, paddle boat and canoe rentals, plenty of walking paths all over the expansive park grounds, as well as a nice aquatic center with 2 body slides, tube slide, splash rock wall, and kiddie area. There is more than enough fun to keep a family busy for a whole day if not an entire weekend. The grounds are well kept, walking trails are nicely maintained, and plentiful nature to be found everywhere.
Andrew H — Google review
Unbelievable, but I have now enjoyed this park for three-quarters of a century. From playing after childhood pediatrician visits at the old Carle Hospital to family and church picnics, riding my bike with friends to the swimming pool, going to County Fairs, stock car races, and even meeting for the final session of one of my University speech classes, this park has been a marvelous green oasis, a respite from the hubbub of campus and city life. Long may it prosper.

Wonderful children's section. Really nice, clean, safe, lots of books and toys. Places for parents to sit and possibly get work done while keeping an eye on the kiddos. Clean spacious family bathroom with stools for hand washing. Hand dryer wasn't too loud. Water fountains with stools and a place to refill your water bottle. Just a wonderful place to beat the heat and enjoy time with kiddos.

Great atmosphere, resourceful and something for everyone young and old. Beautiful murals, art work,Cafe, comfortable seating, teen lounge, children section, great business accommodations upstairs with computers. They have extensive collections of books, CDs, movies etc. If you're bored look no further!!

The building is very nice and the staff have always been kind and helpful. They have a cool store downstairs with items being retired. But they don't seem to have the proper resources (security staff) to deal with people who can't act right. Mentally ill people hang around and it's not unusual for someone to be disturbing half the library with their schizo babble in the evenings. In addition, the wifi gets overloaded during peak times and stops working, and noise really carries through the building.
H K — Google review
The staff is super friendly and helpful. The facility is updated and clean. There are activities outside of the usual day to day library atmosphere. There is a teen center, which is actually very cool! There are reading programs and fun events every month. What a great resource for our community!

They have a good selection of books, however they don’t get new books in quick. They staff are nice and the facility is very clean. I hardly see anything spilled on the floor and everything is nice and quiet other than the children’s center. They organize their books well and have free computers you can use.

This is a pretty nice public library. The staff members I've had interactions with have all been absolutely wonderful to me. A few weeks ago, I lost one of my wireless earbuds inside the library. I searched high and low for a couple of hours and couldn't find it anywhere. I knew my missing earbud was inside due to the fact I could see it disconnect from my phone when I walked outside, and reconnect upon walking back inside. I came to the conclusion my missing earbud was most likely gone forever. 🥺😞 After a few weeks, I decided it's worth a shot to check back at the front desk with lost & found. My hopes were not high, however to my surprise, they returned my long lost earbud to me safe and sound. I am forever grateful to the unknown staff member who located my lost item, and the staff member who returned it to me. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. You guys / gals are all awesome and it's great to see a public entity as well ran as the Green St. Champaign Public Library.

Nestled on the southwest side of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, Memorial Stadium is a remarkable football venue that boasts a seating capacity of over 60,000. Established in 1923, this iconic stadium serves as a tribute to the brave students who lost their lives during World War I. The striking facade features engraved pillars bearing their names, making it not just a sports arena but also a poignant memorial.
Phenomenal stadium. I've been here several times throughout my four years of undergrad here at the University of Illinois. Been here for welcome events held by the Student Alumni Ambassadors along with several Fighting Illini football games during the fall seasons. Just recently visited the stadium for my graduation and I was truly amazed by how well organized and performed the entire graduation ceremony was. Memorial Stadium is one of the attractions of Champaign-Urbana that make me proud that I chose this university.

Big Ten football. Wow. This isn’t the big house or the horseshoe or the Rose Bowl or the LA Coliseum. But it has a special thing all its own. We were treated to 50 yard line seats by a client together with parking pass is only a few steps from our seats. We were treated with respect and of course, respected our opponent, which won the game today. The staff working at the venue were all friendly, courteous, and hopeful, especially when the heat forced me to sit in the first aid station for a few minutes to cool off. Thank you to everyone at Memorial Stadium for a wonderful day.

The sound in the stadium was muffled and none of the vendors take cash. Credit card only. Had to walk back to my car because you can only bring in very small or clear bags. Other than that there were lots of staff in place to direct people, clean restrooms, and a nice clean stadium with ample seating.

🏟️ Memorial Stadium, University of Illinois 🏈 First off—props to the stadium crew! Memorial Stadium is impressively clean and super easy to navigate. No maze-like corridors or mysterious staircases leading to nowhere. Just good signage and a layout that doesn’t make you feel like you’re in a cornfield escape room. 🌽🧭 🍔🥤 Food and beverage vendors? Plentiful. You won’t go hungry unless you’re trying to survive on kale chips alone (which, thankfully, were nowhere in sight). Nachos, hot dogs, sodas—classic stadium fare that hits the spot when you’re juggling four kids and a questionable game-day diet. 🛡️ Security has leveled up with new metal detectors that look like they were borrowed from a sci-fi movie. Efficient and fast—no awkward pat-downs or feeling like you’re entering Area 51. 🚗 Now, parking… oof. If you don’t have a pass, prepare for a cardio session. We parked nearly a mile away, which felt more like a pilgrimage than a pre-game stroll. They do offer shuttles, but most were packed tighter than our stadium seats. Speaking of… 🪑 Seating was… intimate. And not in a romantic way. We’re average-sized guys with four kids, and even with an extra ticket for “breathing room,” we were practically sitting in each other’s laps. I’ve had more elbow space in a clown car. 🤡🚗 🎉 But let’s end on a high note—the entertainment during halftime and throughout the game was genuinely fun and engaging. Great energy, crowd involvement, and just enough flair to keep the kids entertained and the adults from checking their fantasy football scores too often. 👍 Overall? A great experience with a few logistical hiccups. Would we go again? Absolutely. But next time, we’re bringing a tape measure and a scooter. #MemorialStadiumVibes #CleanButCramped #ParkingOlympics2025 #NachosWereElite #KidsHadABlast #ElbowRoomIsAMyth

We had an amazing time at the USC vs. Illinois game this weekend, even though USC came up short. The atmosphere was incredible, and both the staff and Illini fans were outstanding—welcoming, respectful, and courteous, even with us proudly wearing USC gear. It made the experience that much more enjoyable. The only downsides were the parking situation and the long lines for food and drinks. We ended up taking an Uber from our hotel due to parking challenges, and concessions definitely could use some improvement to keep things moving faster. Overall, it was a great experience, and we’d gladly come back for another game.

University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana's Memorial Stadium is one of the best historical college football stadiums that every Big 10 and College Football fan needs to attend a game at (attending games since the 1990's). The Illinois alumni, fans, student section, and band are doing a masterful job of creating a great collegiate environment with all the amenities (clean bathrooms, good food/beverages, etc.) It's definitely one of the Mecca's of College Football, due it historic architecture and player monuments surrounding Memorial Stadium!

The cacaphonies will caress your very bones!! The halls are breathtaking!! the director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra once whispered that the acoustics here were superior to their hometown hall! There's always local & university orchestras doing STUNNING performances (once heard a violin rocket launch). They do beautiful dances for people with Parkinson's and also occasionally have a behemoth of their instrument show up to bedazzled! Check the website!

Just saw Josh Johnson live! Seeing an outstanding performer on stage vs. on YouTube is like seeing a painting in a museum vs. watching the artist create a masterpiece right before your eyes. This holds true of this young standup comic, who is well on the way of joining comedy legends Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Flip Wilson, and Eddie Murphy. All groundbreaking comedians in their own right, all having broken barriers for up and coming artists.

World class performances! Fantastic architecture with world class auditoriums providing comfort as well as excellent audience experience. Tickets are affordable and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Free performances are very popular and provide a great way for people to enjoy themselves at no cost. This is a local treasure! Huge space. The venue is pretty cool! There is free parking on the surrounding streets after 6pm. It's definitely a college town with lots of restaurants around that serve a variety of foods but don't have a lot of atmosphere. The Krannert theater itself is really big. Lots of levels and side balcony seating. It felt clean and bright, and very accessible. There is odd seating behind the stage. We enjoyed a good show, though it was a late start due to a security check they had everyone go through. One of the volunteers told me that they hadn't done security like that before so they had misjudged the start time. I trust they will figure that out.

The show was sweet. But we about froze outside waiting to get in. And if you read my texas roadhouse, I bet you can't guess who I seen walking down the hill towards the line. Ol Bubba. Still no coat, just shirt and overalls. Walking like he was on a mission. Later on, during the show, I looked over and there he went again, up the stairs. I was starting to wonder if he was following me. For him to be such a big dude, he was all over the place. But the show was great. I think I'll go back and watch a game next season.

Best park in town. The very best part is non-restrictive hours! Actually open long enough that working people can enjoy it. Not sure how a park "closes" but anyway. Perfect running loop. Most popular park in Champaign for good reason. Splash pad and playground are perfect for kids. There is also pickleball, tennis, and volleyball court, as well as plenty of shelters to have parties. Scott took us on a tour with Sam & Susan Reese. His insightful comments about the then, avant garde technology of the 60's & 70's were mesmerizing. Also, coming from a Marine Corps family, Sousa's music holds a special place in my heart. I was delighted to see his original piccolo part for Star & Stripes Forever & news archives about him. Thank you, Scott.

This is a hidden GEM on the University of Illinois campus. How many museums will play century-old actual vintage antique drum recordings on 105 year old gramophones for guests?!!!! What an experience! The Director even opened the archives of old instruments and sheet music for us. I posted short recordings of the old gramophones and they've gone somewhat vital. PBS: You need to produce a short program on this place, and the musical history it represents! If PBS won't do it, then the U of Illinois should - GO ILLINI!

The staff is extremely helpful and interesting. I was shown unusual musical instruments stored onsite, allowed to play the Sal-Mar Construction, a unique electronic instrument, learned how gramophones work and about the difficulties of making a recording on one. Also about Sousa's controversial Prohibition era composition. Anyone with musical interests will enjoy this place.

As a Florida State University student, I can tell you that it’s a good place. But not as cool as FSU Student Union. It has a vintage vibe and pretty cool place to chill. But I doubt it would crowded when classes are going on. It was great visiting this place.

The heart of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Has a lot of amenities, even a bowling alley in the basement. I think the upper floor rooms are for private use made with reservations, but there’s even a hotel inside the building. Pretty impressive union compared to some school’s I saw.

Really need building, the temperature inside is just way way to hot for me to withstand. When I'm sitting inside the union reading, or whatever, I swear and become really really cautious and feel symptoms of heat exhaustion, until I'm able to step outside and get some air. Makes you just want to open a window or something it's so hot and musty. Very cool place though, I love that it's an older building. The build quality is so much better than the newer buildings.

Great Place for resting if you're homeless.. My ONLY problem is that they don't have any couches or ottomans so you can actually put your feet up and lay back. I was reading some people's reviews about all of the other amenities and honestly I am very much so impressed. I will visit those places inside of the UIUC one of these days. I am currently attending parkland college & I know I will need somewhere to study. Hopefully by then they have a better place for studying in the common area or something. BUT Overall... I would rate it a 10/10 it only has 4 stars instead of 5 because of the resting area.. most of us are moms/single moms (me included) who work and go to school so much needed rest time in between classes and before i have to get the kids is WELL NEEDED!

Located in downtown Urbana, the Urbana Free Library is a historic building constructed in 1918 with a Classical Revival style. Established in 1874, it is one of the oldest public libraries in the state. The library offers an extensive collection including books, music, audiobooks, movies, video games, toys, board games and craft equipment. It also provides specialized gadgets like GoPro cameras. The friendly staff is always ready to assist visitors with any questions or needs.
I love this library. The environment is quiet and relaxing. The little bookmark they use to label staff picks is absolutely the cutest I’ve ever seen. They also have many spots with convenient charging stations where people can read and study. I also love how it looks from the outside. The walls are covered with Boston ivy, which adds a mysterious atmosphere to this amazing library. Besides books, they also host many interesting events. For example, the seed exchange. I took a pack of chive seeds—the little pack they use is also very cute.

Pros: -nice historic building -lots of free community events -elevator for those who need it -the decision to remove most late fees (unless losing items or not returning for a long time) reduces the pressure to speed up and try to finish materials before actually done with them -free puzzle exchange in front entrance is really nice idea -the battery recycling drop off is nice to have as a place for community to recycle batteries -the reading programs are nice and fun to earn free books -the hold shelf is nice to be able to request items ahead of time and have them ready when in a hurry -nice selection of books and DVDs -The Library of Things is a cool resource to be able to check out non-book items; I checked out a VCR to DVD converter machine and was able to convert a video of my grandparents onto DVD as the only film or video I have to be able to watch any memories -free seed exchange for seeds for plants on the 2nd floor of the library. Amazing community resource! -computers and printing services -beautiful historical archive on the 2nd floor -nice children’s area in the basement Cons: -metered parking; this may be a deterrent for some people from being able to fully utilize the resources of the library -I’m wondering if you could add a recycling can by the front entrance to encourage water bottles etc to not be thrown in the trash by library patrons entering or leaving the building

5$ to get in. Grandkids loved it, a lot of the areas are non operating especially in the vet room, but the concept and dress up was still appreciated. Interesting old building . Though it's geared towards 10 and under my older grandchildren found things to do . The outside section was closed due to weather. Many secret spaces to entertain the kids. We spent about 2 hour here.

Lots of activities for the kids. A great indoor option during the winter, but the outdoor activities look fun too! All of the activities are pretty age-universal and fun no matter what, but the older they are, they could really learn a ton of science. Everyone, staff and visitors, were all really friendly and helpful.

It's small.. But lots of things for kids to enjoy.. They have spiders and snakes to look at.. Jungle gym and other things

A good place ti spend a day with kids. There are machines, toys and simulators that are of interest for young kids. The staff is friendly and do their best to keep the place clean and tidy.

A great place to have in the downtown area. Lots of activities for kids. A fabulous outdoor space with Dino dig, bubbles, and butterfly garden. A water table, a Lego area, and an indoor slide are just a few of the indoor features. This place is perfect for any day but especially for hot summer days and cold winter days when you need a place to take the kids to burn off energy. A membership for a year is the best value but if only going for a day it is only $5 per person.
Judy E — Google review
For being in such a small place, it’s pretty good. They have the iconic water table and wind tunnels for the kids to play with. We spent only about 1.5-2 hours here before we continued on our vacation to Iowa. It was also free for military, so big plus!!
Bud M — Google review
Love this little children’s museum. Expect to spend 1-3 hours here, depending on age of your kids. Perfect for 1-6 year olds. Older siblings will have fun for awhile, but probably not a destination for them to go without younger siblings. Exhibits my son enjoys the most are the water table, magnet tiles, indoor playground area, and watching the turtles swim around.
Callie W — Google review
The museum itself was nice. The kids liked the outdoor area and spent a lot of time at the water table and the coloring on the walls. Halfway through our visit they opened the gates and released all the camp kids with no supervision. They ran, pushed, grabbed and didn’t share and blocked my children from entering the boat or the space area. We ended up leaving earlier than planned and less than happy.

The arena offers skate rentals at an affordable price, allowing visitors to glide across the ice and immerse themselves in the Midwestern tradition of ice sports. The staff members are friendly and always ready to help, creating a welcoming environment for all guests. The facility itself is well-maintained and clean, ensuring a pleasant experience for ice skating enthusiasts.
Took a youth group here for some cool, slick fun on the cold, hard ice! The place was busy on a Friday afternoon, but it didn't feel like it--plenty of room--and I snagged a used $2 puck to seal the memory. Really an inexpensive way to spend a couple hours not watching TV. Try it!

We really enjoy the Learn to Skate classes and Ice Cubes Synchronized Skating. The public skates are very popular. If you want to go when less crowded wait until the second hour to attend for more room to move around.

I visit this Ice Rink from time to time, and each experience has been enjoyable. The staff members are always approachable and eager to assist, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The ice arena itself is in excellent condition, with great attention to maintenance and cleanliness. Overall, it's a fantastic place for ice skating enthusiasts or anyone looking to have a good time on the ice.

Went to see the Battle of the Badges hockey event. It was great to see the arena packed like it was in the early 2000's for the Illini team. Standing room only! Great fundraising event for Project 703 and a great game as well.

Love the rink but the administration completely abandoned adult hockey league in the last 2 years, despite the constant emails from the campus and overall CU community. I hope to see the program revamped this coming (2022) fall. Update: the program is planned to resume in spring 2023 now.

Busey Woods is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Urbana, offering a serene escape from the urban bustle. This 59-acre native woodland features a raised boardwalk that provides an excellent vantage point for observing birdlife and vibrant wildflowers. Connected to Crystal Lake Park, Busey Woods boasts tranquil bottomland oak-hickory forest and picturesque wetlands. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along several short trails, taking in the natural beauty that changes with the seasons.
I have twice times walking around this Busey Woods. One in the Spring and another one in the Winter. Unfortunately I just can share the photos for Winter. Its a great place to healing, refreshing, and trailing. I love this place much. The birds sound makes the ambience more great.
Winda S — Google review
The main trails are well maintained, though some paths can get quite muddy. There are a few fallen tree trunks along the way, but the scenery is beautiful and there’s plenty of parking available.
HW Z — Google review
Beautiful place to go for a walk along the trails amidst nature. This place always gives me a feel of the presence in close proximity with nature and forest. However, the trails are quite short. I believe this could be a really plus point to take kids for short hiking there. Also, this is a dog friendly area. Another thing to be noted is that some of the trails are quite close to the road. Overall, a pretty decent place to visit in Urbana.
Md A — Google review
Excellent hiking spot for the people in town, there are several short trails, I'd say it takes about 1 hour or 1 hour and a half to walk all trails. Even during winter there are plenty of living things to see like deer, trees, squirrels, birds, etc. The boardwalks can be slippery. I wish there were more signs indicating the trails and distances. Plenty of parking spots in front of the nature center. If Busey woods isn't enough, Crystal lake park is right next to it
Carollia — Google review
I am new to the area. I was looking for long trails but unfortunately the longest trail if you stay to the outer outside is maybe around a mile and a half ish. Other than that it was a cute little trail that my kids liked. Took some pictures that also turned out really nice. Some of the grass trails are not very wide. So bring bug repellent.
B B — Google review
To get here, go to the Anita Purves Nature Center and park at the lot, then follow signs for the boardwalk. It’s very short and very easy. I’d recommend going off the boardwalk and head to the dirt paths. Even so, this is a very easy walk (I wouldn’t call it a hike) and it’s really quiet, with wildlife!
Max C — Google review
Great easy hike, over half of the trail is planked so those in scooters or wheelchairs will be able to navigate and enjoy the trails too! Great place to take kids to hike. Trail is 90-95% shaded all day.

Wonderful hidden gem in Urbana. The nature museum is small, but has fascinating exhibits about local flora and fauna, including live snakes, owls, salamanders, and turtles. Everything is very kid-friendly, and includes a place to do crayon rubbings of leaves, a touchscreen activity, and microscope. Make sure to stop at the front desk--the staff are very friendly and enthusiastic, and will give you the chance to pet a snake. The trail is also very pretty, and you can ask the front desk for a wildlife bingo card, and even sign out binoculars. Awesome spot if you have kids.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Urbana, Lincoln Square Mall offers a unique blend of shopping and history. Adjacent to the charming Urbana-Lincoln Hotel, which boasts a Tudor Revival style and has seen its fair share of ups and downs since 1923, this mall is an intriguing destination. While it may not be bustling with activity like in years past, Lincoln Square Mall remains a favored spot for leisurely indoor strolls.
If you are a local creative you have to visit this place. The art coop, the idea store, the thrift stores, THE FARMERS MARKET?!?! It's all fantastic and I love the nostalgia I feel when there because I have been going there my entire life.

We went there for the Bobeyatd Art Show that was going on inside. Loved it. They had some stores that were also open. We loved the Idea store. Hopefully, they can get more businesses to come there. The parking lot needs some work.
Debra W — Google review
This mall is one word: strange. No name-brand stores. All small businesses, most of which cater to an older demographic of buyers. Totally fine, but I expect name-brand stores inside a building known as a shopping mall. It’s extremely outdated and small as well. It just feels old. Not sure why it still exists. Lots of parking but it’s sketchy.
J.B. — Google review
This place feels downright abandoned most days. So many empty storefronts. What's still around is definitely worth your time, though. Here's hoping the landlord sells this place to the city so lease prices can finally go down.

If you have an interest in agriculture or research, this historical landmark is worth a visit due to its significant contribution to both fields.

As far as plots go, I'd give this one a 3 out of 5. The corn was ok, but overall I'd like to see it do something special, like carnivorously attacking random passerby. A classic small theater. Every seat is close enough to the stage. Seats are cushioned, comfy, but not very wide. We were near the back on the main floor, sound was very loud. Great view. Serves popcorn and drinks which you can take into the theater. No line for bathroom, that's always nice. Staff is nice, also quite fast at getting people in. There is a bag check, so be prepared, and arrive early folks, not cool to interrupt other patrons by seating late.

It might be how the sun or sunset amplifies things. I have his books and will give them as gifts to people. Before he opened this studio, I had him take a resume photo for me. Housed in a meticulously restored 1857 building, this nonprofit museum showcases rotating exhibits that delve into local history dating back to the 17th century. Through a collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents, visitors can gain insight into the early settlers, industrial growth, and cultural evolution that have shaped Champaign-Urbana over time.
A small and free museum that offers a glimpse of Champaign's history. I liked the artifacts and found them to be informative.

At first the guy didn't want to talk to me about history. And then he opened up and it was amazing. I love Town history I lived here as a teenager and moved away at 21. I didn't like history then and I'm a historic reenactor now so it was a very very interesting experience. I loved about the the electric train cars that they used to have here I went to several counties

Not the largest museum that you'll visit, but extremely well curated with interesting exhibits. Nice combination of media and artifacts to bring the topics alive. Free with a $3 requested donation, so definitely worth the price of admission.
Jan K — Google review
An excellent museum with very high quality displays produced by volunteers. Walking through the museum and looking at the displays you would think the entire place was laid out, designed and produced by professional museum designers. Well worth a visit. Especially if you live in Champaign County and haven't ever been there.
Rick L — Google review
Nothing expansive or fancy here ... just a couple of rooms of exhibits. But what's there is very well-presented, and gives a nice overview of the history of the county. One room is dedicated to how WWII affected Champaign County, especially at the (now-defunct) Chanute Air Base in Rantoul. That was very interesting. The people that work/volunteer there are friendly and clearly knowledgeable. You could see it for free, but it's more than worth the $3 suggested donation. A very pleasant way to pass an hour.

Cool little museum. Good way to kill an hour or two. These types of museums are so interesting because you often can talk directly with the people who curate and make the exhibits, and this one was no different.

This place is a little gem and we had an amazing experience here! Alan was an exceptionally knowledgeable guide and took special interest in pointing out items of historical significance. He even spent a great deal of time answering all the millions of questions posed by our seven year old!! Thankyou Alan!

This place is a wealth of history! Between an old cattle scale, a grocery mart that's from the 1800's (inactive ) and a two story museum I am really surprised more people dont go here. A hidden gem right in front of everyone!

South Quad, also known as McFarland Carillon, is a prominent feature at the south end of UIUC's campus. The 185 ft tall bell tower houses 49 bells that can play over 500 songs and can be controlled through a keyboard for creating custom music. This area offers a more open and less crowded space compared to the main quad, making it an ideal spot for relaxation or study. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery, including the impressive bell tower and lush greenery.
This is a very nice spot to sit in relax. During the summer months I like to come here with a camping chair and sit out with my friends. I usually bring a frisbee out so we can through it around. This a place that is usually a bit less crowded than the main quad if you want to come out here to study. People do play loud music sometimes so do be warned.

Whether you're looking for a quiet spot to read, a place to meet friends, or simply a scenic route between classes, the South Quad provides a peaceful and inspiring environment. Review written 12/27/2024. Nice park to walk or park your car and relax etc. Usually has a portapotty open in winter when the facility bathrooms close for winter. Has accessible playground area for people with physical disabilities. Has some covered areas with picnic tables Has a bridge to walk over and some benches and playground equipment Downsides are it’s right next to the like sewage or wastewater or something treatment plant and sometimes the park smells bad. Also a downside is that sometimes depending on the weather and wind conditions, you can hear some kind of shooting training going on maybe from the Champaign county jail area nearby. It’s not very pleasant to go to a park and hear tons of gunshots off in the distance and I wish these practice times would be broadcast more to the public as to not startle people with PTSD etc. Maybe they are broadcast on police social media pages or something idk but it can definitely be startling. Also a downside is that some of the areas you can drive turn into gravel and become super muddy and have some deep dangerous potholes and end in a dead end but there’s no warning signs about how it’s a dead end so if you drive that way to try to see more areas of the park, you may have to back out

The concept of the idea garden is impressive, as the Illinois Master Gardeners have established a self-regulating system that eliminates the need for watering and maintains soil nutrients. Despite its small size, which is less than half an acre, it is densely packed with various plants such as flowers, bonsai trees, and crops. The layout of the garden allows visitors to spend hours exploring its beauty. It is highly recommended to visit this garden if you are in Champaign.
One of my favorite places to visit. I highly recommend checking out the Japan Garden. We come here biweekly to see the new blooms, as something different emerges each time. I often post pictures online and receive many compliments. The fairy garden is also super cute, though it seems some children have taken the actual fairies! There is also an adorable book exchange for kids and several play areas.

Riggs Beer Company is a family-owned brewery founded by brothers Matt and Darin Riggs, who have a background in farming. After gaining experience in brewing and serving in the military, they started brewing beer at home. The brewery features a large beer garden with various activities and hosts food trucks regularly. It's a family-friendly place with amenities like a playground, giant Jenga, bags, fire pit, picnic tables, and ample space for kids to enjoy.
Great ambiance and fantastic beer. We went in the evening and they had outdoor fire pit going. Watson's Chicken food truck was there this particular night and was awesome!

Riggs Beer Company is a gem. It has a lovely outdoor and expansive seating area. Indoors is just as lovely! The beer is delicious and incredibly reasonably priced. There are wine, cider, soda, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate options as well. Options for everybody! The staff are incredibly friendly, you feel like you’ve just come to dinner with Q family. Everything about this experience is wonderful and I highly recommend it as a favorite hangout spot!
Ayesha H — Google review
Was surprised how many cars were in the parking lot on a Thursday @ 7pm, the place was packed! Got inside to find that the live music had just ended. They have 4-5 beers that are always available & 4-5 that they call seasonal. The months they release the Seasonals is posted. I've had most of their beers and would say they are all pretty good. A great place to kill a few minutes like we did OR to hang out for an evening.

This is a wonderful German Beer Garden! I love their bock and wheat beers. They have lots of outdoor seating, games to play, and a play area for kids. The service is great and they regularly have food trucks and live music. Add in their locally grown grains and sustainability program and it is a winner!

Daniela L — Google review
This is one impressive brewery, variety, flavors, an indulgent chime to tingle all the ears and taste buds. I noticed plenty of space and parking in this accessible location. Staff was in touch and serving up some samples in their rustic atmosphere. Can't say to food but assuming it is as good as the beers; has to grab a four pack of the schwarzbier noting it's rich and complex balance. My friends enjoyed as well, can easily recommend Riggs!
Luke W — Google review
I love the vibe at Riggs! I don't drink anymore, but when I used to- I loved their Hefeweizen when I wanted something with a more interesting flavor profile, and the American Lager is like an elevated beer idk how to explain it. Regardless of your preferences, their beers are great quality due to the fact that they brew in house, grow their own hops, and locally source from farms in the area. They have an interesting story, a warm and inviting vibe. They also always have something booked, whether it's live music, food trucks, market pop-ups, etc. They also offer free re-fills on non-alcoholic drinks like soda, lemonade, and their German soda mixes.
Odalyz S — Google review
This is so far the best and the coolest breweries i have ever been to! Loved it! Imagine having a fresh hefeweizen in a farm style seating! I went to share the the musical experience of Ride The Cyclone. Information on the show is available as soon as you walk in. A bulletin board with clippings and tidbits gives you just enough information on the RIDE that you are in for once you go in. Be ready to laugh, feel joy, sadness, and have that lump in your throat that goes directly to your heart. The set is Amazing! The cast are so real! They could be anyone that you know. A very Human and Wonderful ride about how people really are, different lives, one world. It reminds us that we are all in this together and that we should all be accepted and Loved for who we are. Very well done!!
Jody B — Google review
Great performances! The only complaint I have is that the theater got really hot and stuffy. It would help to have a couple fans to circulate air or leave the side door open. Also it might have helped a lot to have concessions to get cold water during the long play (3 1/2 hours).

Fine range of offerings from paintings, to prints, to sculpture, to ceramics, to wood, to glass… Work ranges from decorative to abstract, from traditional to avant-garde.
