Aquarium
Nature & Parks
The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, situated within the Okinawa Ocean Expo Park, is among the world's largest aquariums. Originally established for the 1975 world fair, this area underwent redevelopment to boost tourism. The Churaumi Aquarium, which opened in 2002, replaced an existing smaller aquarium. The park also hosts events like the Cherry Blossoms Festival and Flower Festa.
I visited Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and found it absolutely worth seeing. The highlight for me was the massive manta rays gracefully gliding through the water—truly spectacular and mesmerizing. As for the whale sharks, they didn’t impress me as much because I’ve previously swum with whale sharks in Cebu, but first-time visitors would still find them impressive. The aquarium features a wide variety of unique and unusual marine creatures, making the visit both surprising and educational. It’s a great experience for anyone interested in marine life. The only downside was the aquarium’s restaurant, where the food was mediocre and overpriced, but this didn’t significantly affect the overall experience. Overall, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is a must-visit spot in Okinawa. Whether you’re with family, friends, or alone, it offers a wonderful opportunity to get up close with marine creatures. The manta ray display, in particular, is truly unforgettable.

Mid-level aquarium, definitely not Japan’s best. Have enjoyed many others far more. Skip the car queues and head for carpark P9 which has multiple levels and heaps of parks. Still within walking distance. The best parts of the aquarium are free and located outside the building itself. Inside is super crowded and lacked flow from one exhibit to the next. Dolphin show outside was probably the most entertaining. Nice views across the ocean though…
Life's A — Google review
A little overpriced for what it offers, but probably because it’s more tailored towards children. Still, if I was a child I’d be lost in the dream world. We enjoyed the free parking, and the amenities of the park around it, but I would recommend hydrating before because every vending machine we saw was sold out. The lines were short, despite the crowds being deep. I lived in Atlanta Georgia USA, and the whale shark here reminded me of how massive and majestic they truly are. The grounds around the aquarium offer so much more, and the staff is quite accommodating and kind.
Michael R — Google review
Highly recommended! This aquarium is suitable for all ages, with an abundance of marine life and a well-planned visitor flow. You can see the famous whale shark here, and parking is super convenient! I recommend parking in P7; it's close to the entrance and has shade.
KE-HAO C — Google review
The wait to get into the parkade probably took 30mins, wife got tickets online while waiting so we didn't have to wait in line for tickets. If you're hungry, the lunch buffet is pretty decent, good variety. The cafe inside the aquarium is very busy and packed, when we went there was some food trucks as well but it was raining. The aquarium itself was great, very informative, very cool, and lots of variety. A lot more time to see the rest of expo park with the dolphins, the show, the sea turtles, the cultural area, observatory, beach, etc. we spent 2 hrs just inside the aquarium
Julian L — Google review
If you're looking for a valid reason to rent a car in Okinawa, here it is. It took us about two hours to drive from the rental car parking lot in Downtown Naha, and the second half was a scenic coastal drive with sneaky traffic lights that were positioned horizontally. The aquarium parking structure was huge, so we had no trouble finding a space. Admission was ¥2,180 per person which was less than $15, a good deal considering how expansive the aquarium was over four floors. It features one of the world's largest tanks called the Kuroshio Sea which holds almost two million gallons of water. Gigantic whale sharks and manta rays dominated the tank, but there were also thousands of fish of different species swimming around them with nary a care. There was plenty of marine flora and fauna to examine in smaller individual tanks. The aquarium's specialties include deep-sea species like salamander sharks that live at depths of over 2,000 feet. We missed the dolphin show, but life isn't perfect. A two-hour visit is probably sufficient for most visitors unless you're some fish fanatic. Not us though. We prefer our fish sashimi style. Too tacky? Sorry.
Ed U — Google review
The Aquarium is very big and shows an amazing number of fishes and other animals from the sea. To see a whale shark is very impressive, definitely! But I don’t believe the shark is happy in the tank. Even the tank is big for all the other fishes and mantas, for the whale shark is a small cage. This fish is swimming 100s of km every day, in the aquarium he circles only… Also the sea turtles live in a too small cage, they almost have no space to swim without touching each other. Even is a beautiful place to go, I feel it’s time we give these animals much more space or we should be prison them in too small cages… (just my opinion)
Thomas M — Google review
Most beautiful aquarium i have ever seen in my life 😍 the size of the big aquarium is judt mind blowing. Seeing the big sharkwhale swimming around is mesmerizing to watch! Next to that the aquarium has thousands if different fish and sea creatures to see, explore and learn more about! Definitely recommend everyone to go here!

Ocean Expo Park is a popular tourist destination in Okinawa, Japan. It features the impressive Churaumi Aquarium, which is one of the largest aquariums in the world. The park also boasts a beautiful beach, lush botanical gardens, and an open-air museum showcasing Okinawan culture. Originally developed for the 1975 world fair, the area underwent redevelopment to attract tourism after years of limited use following the fair.
The place is very big. Have theatre for dolphins show. Have turtle SANCTUARY, Manatee Sanctuary, nice beach for chill out. And Very impressed with the whale shark swimming in the aquarium. It's been there for 30 years. The aquarium is informative. Many sea creatures as well. Worth for a visit. Remember to watch the dolphins show.
Desmond L — Google review
Generally good but too many facilities and spaces are now barred. The other side of the park has few people to visit and I would really love to see more kinds of sea creatures here! Also a bit too crowded :(
Felix Y — Google review
This is undoubtedly one of the best aquariums on the island and a must-see whether you're stationed here long-term or just visiting. The exhibits are thoughtfully designed, offering an engaging and educational look at a wide variety of marine life—including some truly rare and awe-inspiring species. Keep in mind, it can get quite crowded, especially on weekends and holidays, so I highly recommend arriving early to avoid the rush and enjoy a more relaxed experience. There’s ample parking available, but be prepared for a fair amount of walking throughout the facility—comfortable shoes are a good idea.
Abigail M — Google review
I really love this place, there is a lot of special creatures, unfortunately I missed the dolphin show, but I still have a great time to watch sea turtles and all sorts of marine creatures. If I live here, I’ll probably buy the annual pass.
Anson — Google review
The indoor aquarium is very impressive, but I found the manatee and sea turtle pools very sad to look at, no vegetation, no toys, some were lucky to have a rock.
Jonáš S — Google review
Relaxing, enjoyable, beautiful, and the sea life was great - especially if you like sharks and dolphins. Very affordable. Plenty to do for free. Plenty of parking.
Will S — Google review
Love this place! A must see in Okinawa. Expect to spend a few hours here and be immersed in all the marine and underwater life without going to the water.
Cindy G — Google review
There are many sightseeing points, and the best part is that the Okichan dolphin show is free to watch. Parking is free, and the show is free. If you want to see dolphins and explore the ocean more, you can go to places like Churaumi Aquarium. It’s a bit complicated when there are a lot of people, but the space is large and people tend to only gather during times when there are a lot of people. Okichan is cute.

Beaches
Sesoko Beach is located on Sesoko Island, which is accessible by car via the Sesoko bridge. While visiting the beach itself is free, visitors should be prepared for additional expenses such as gear rental, showers, and other amenities. The area offers a variety of experiences including snorkeling with a diverse range of fish in shallow waters monitored by lifeguards. Paid parking and equipment rental are available on-site.
Sesoko Beach is an absolute paradise — with crystal-clear blue water that’s among the most beautiful I’ve seen in Japan! You can rent parasols and sunbeds for a small fee, making it easy to relax and enjoy the day. I recommend bringing water shoes, as the stones can be quite sharp. Still, the beach is very family-friendly, with lots of kids around and a lifeguard on duty, so it feels safe. Snorkeling is a must — the water is full of colorful fish and feels like swimming in a natural aquarium. Truly a stunning spot that’s worth the visit!
TancReady — Google review
Absolute paradise! Sesoko is one of the most amazing beaches I've ever been to! Good snorkeling and great sunsets. The water is crystal clear, sand is soft and there is coral to explore with colorful fish. The public beach parking is 1000 yen per day just yards away. They have umbrella and chair rentals and you have to pay for bathrooms/showers. You can also buy jet ski float rides, which look like a lot of fun. We pay for parking and bring our own umbrella and beach chairs. Heads up- the snorkeling area is netted off and they are strict about staying inside the net. There is also a lifeguard on duty. Tips: -Bring YEN for parking. Sometimes the credit card access is broken -Bring a small cooler with snacks and drinks -I'd recommend bringing fins if snorkeling. The currents can pick up -Check the tides before coming out -Water shoes for sharp coral
Jessica M — Google review
The beach itself is beautiful – no doubt about that. But be prepared: around 5 PM everything shuts down. No toilets, no showers, nowhere to rinse off your feet. If you're desperate, you might be able to sneak into the Sheraton next door – there’s a shower at the top of the stairs – but that's at your own risk. On the plus side, this beach is actually deep enough to swim even at low tide, which is a big deal in this area where most places turn into puddles.
Eugene Y — Google review
Great Beach • Parking: ¥1000 fixed price. • Beach: Beautiful, but the main area can be busy. • Recommendation: Skip the main chair rental area and walk to the right along the shore. You'll find a quieter cove with nice shady spots under the rocks and great scenery for photos. We loved it there!
Izzy Z — Google review
Such a beautiful place and a mesmerizing gift nature has provided us, the water is calm and warm, perfect for snorkeling the whole day and explore the reef as far you can go for. When the sun hits the water, everything is crystal clear, the rain made cooled off the day but still the swim was enjoyable. What can I say about the sunset, just as lovely as it can get, one of nature's finest hours that someone can capture and keep it as an experience for the rest of their life. Beautiful.
Juan M — Google review
Snorkelling on the beach within the netted swim zone had various small fish in clear shallow water. Paid tours were offered at the beach to better reefs sites. Beach offers beautiful walk along the coastline that has small caves and coves.
Jon V — Google review
Very pretty and not too busy, the water was very clear and they had the netted areas where people were swimming with their kids. The parking is 1000¥ flat rate, about a 5 - 7 min walk down to the beach.
Denise M — Google review
Water is not deep, only waist height (I’m 1m87). Also the sea doesn’t have sand, but rather a layer stone/dead coral, not easy to step around without sea shoes… Lots of fish to spot if you have goggles or snorkel, but again the water is not deep. And it wasn’t clear due to many visitors. Also very busy on a Friday afternoon, parking was 1000yen and a 5minute walk from parking to the sea. There are showers, toilets and a vendor which sells drinks/shaved ice. Can also rent sun-bed/parasol which was 4400yen I believe. (Rather expensive) P.s. if you walk to the left when going down the stairs, there’s a very nice spot to chill, I would suggest checking it out because the beach itself is not interesting.

Minna Island, also known as Minna-jima, is a small croissant-shaped island located near Sesoko Island in Okinawa. It is a popular destination for divers and snorkelers due to its stunning reef and diverse marine life. The island offers beautiful white sandy beaches and crystal-clear blue waters, making it an ideal spot for swimming and other marine sports. Visitors can easily access the island via summer ferry services from Okinawa.
beautiful beach with coral washed up all around. The gorgeous green-blue colors of the water that makes me L♡VE my birthplace forever! This was my 1st time on the small, croissant-shape island. It was a quick 30-minute or so ride on the ferry from the main Okinawa island. Be aware that the island DOES "shut down" from Nov 1st- March (can't remember the day), meaning you cannot buy food there. I did see a drink machine, so drinks are possible. Remember to take your trash WITH you!
LEV E — Google review
Perfect day trip from Okinawa main island. We took the 11am boat & returned on the 16:30pm boat (check boat schedule online & buy tickets only in person), it was a relaxing day with also some fun activities - recommend the snorkelling sooo many beautiful fish! There are stands selling equipment/umbrellas/beds etc. but very overpriced, bring your own if poss! Originally I wanted to go to zamami island but the boat fully booked, this was a perfect alternative & felt less touristic. Would recommend anyone looking for island day trip & crystal clear waters!🐠🩵🌊💎
Paige B — Google review
I made the dive near the island and it is a paradise even under the water, with several corals and fish one more beautiful than the other, for those who are visiting this wonderful country, I recommend having an experience also under water Photos by Aloha Divers Okinawa. I recommend this company for those who want diving service, service in English, Portuguese and Japanese
Emy M — Google review
Our group just found this island in the suddenly when we don't know where the next beach should go for the rest days in Okinawa. Take a ferry about 30 minutes or more( I don't remember clearly) and land in island at 12p.m. The water is so cool, beautiful color with white sand. You can enjoy diving or cano driving but have to wait from 1-3 hours. However, almost people I saw in here would rather swim. Don't forget bring junk food and water because it's less store or restaurant stay nearby

Ie Island, also known as Iejima, is a remote and tiny island located off the northwest coast of the Motobu Peninsula in Okinawa. It's a popular day trip destination with its tranquil scenery, including Mount Gusuku and beautiful white sand beaches. The island is famous for hosting a yearly lily festival and offers opportunities for fun diving at Gorilla Chop Point in Motobu Town.
Nice ferry ride. But steep climb up the small hilltop. Again, it’s worthwhile.

Ie Island is a truly beautiful destination. Don’t miss out on trying the Ie Island beef steak—especially the Hizajura Beef Steak. It’s an authentic taste of Japan, rich in taste! The meat was tender, juicy, and unforgettable. Highly recommended!

Nakijin Castle Ruins, located in the northern part of Okinawa's main island, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a glimpse into the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom. Dating back to the 13th century, these ruins boast impressive castle walls and are known for their historical significance. The site provides insight into castle construction techniques of the time and showcases the power and authority of its former owner, the king of Hokuzan.
Our first tour in Okinawa. Our tour guide was amazing and well worth the cost. The castle grounds are beautiful and the walls are amazing. Don’t forget to go to the museum, too. Thank you to the staff. Very knowledgeable, professional and personable. Go early and avoid the crowds. When we arrived at there at 0900 and shared the castle with approx 10 people.

Visiting the Nakijin Castle Ruins was like stepping back in time. Perched on a hill in the northern part of Okinawa, this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers not only a glimpse into Ryukyu history but also some of the most breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and sea. We arrived on a sunny morning and were immediately captivated by the expansive stone walls — rugged yet majestic, winding across the hillside like a fortress from another world. Walking along the ancient pathways, we could feel the energy of a bygone era. The ruins are beautifully preserved, and though there’s not much of the original wooden structures left, the foundations and stonework speak volumes. The atmosphere here is peaceful and spiritual. It’s easy to understand why this was once a sacred and strategic site. From the higher vantage points, we were rewarded with sweeping views of the East China Sea, lush greenery, and the remnants of the castle layout. There are helpful signboards with historical information, and the walk is manageable for most, though those with mobility issues might find some parts challenging due to uneven stone paths. Overall, Nakijin Castle Ruins was a highlight of our Okinawa trip — a perfect combination of culture, nature, and quiet reflection.

Must visit when in Okinawa, the view up there is just beautiful. I have visited during sakura season and the blooms added to the charm of the ruins.

A small version of the great wall of china. Sadly there is no castle to view. Only broken walls. But nonetheless it provide a good view of the sea from the ruin.

One of the 9 UNESCO cultural heritage sites in Okinawa. All the Okinawan castle ruins look very much the same so you could skip this one if you have visited other castles like Katsuren or Nakagusuku. The site is beautiful and is worth visiting if in the area for its views. Judging by other’s people’s photos this place is beautiful when visited during the cherry blossom season.

Cute island to have a day trip and explore. There is a town map for walking to all the memorials. We parked and walked to the other end. It's got beautiful views looking back onto the mainland. Nestled within the stunning Ocean Expo Park in Motobu, Japan, the Tropical Dream Center is a botanical paradise that showcases an impressive array of tropical and subtropical flora. Established on the site of the 1975 Okinawa International Ocean Expo, this vibrant greenhouse spans six hectares and features over 2,000 orchids that bloom throughout the year. Visitors can wander through lush gardens filled with exotic fruit trees and colorful flowers while enjoying breathtaking views from its Observatory Tower overlooking the ocean.
Beautiful and Relaxing Tropical Dream Center is a peaceful oasis filled with exotic flowers, lush greenery, and beautifully designed greenhouses. The orchid collection is especially stunning — one of the best we’ve seen! It’s well-maintained, not crowded, and perfect for a relaxing walk or a break from the beach. The view from the tower at the end is a great bonus. If you enjoy nature, photography, or simply want a quiet, beautiful spot to explore, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

If you have not gone you need to. This place is amazing to see. If you want to see the jungle without the worry of what could eat me. They have amazing green houses. The self guided tour takes normal people around an hour. Took us hour and half. There are ac breaks along the way as it can get quite hot. If you are going to the aquarium, might as well stop by ins in the parking lot. Plus there is a cheap local taco rice shack across the street which is to die for!
Hannah H — Google review
What a beautiful and stunning botanical garden! It's definitely worth a visit. We saw so many orchid flowers in one place. We were coming in the evening hours and were able to watch the sunset right from the tower in the middle of the dream center.
Martin D — Google review
Finished the aquarium in 2 hours with lots of time to spare. Ended in this hidden gem which is imo much more interesting than the aquarium. Lots of flowers and photo spots. Be sure to make your way up the tower for breathtaking views of the entire area.
Keith S — Google review
I’m speechless – this is a true hidden gem in Okinawa! Even if it wasn’t right next to the aquarium, the Tropical Dream Center is worth a visit on its own. And even if you’ve already been to the aquarium – go anyway. It’s calm, peaceful, and surrounded by beauty. Every step feels like a postcard – photo-perfect at every turn. The self-guided layout is a brilliant idea: take your time, walk at your own pace, and truly appreciate the incredible effort it takes to maintain such a stunning place. Plan at least 3 hours, slow down, and soak it all in. No rush – just pure, tropical serenity.
Eugene Y — Google review
We were disappointed by the Aquarium, but the Tropical Dream Center made the two hour trip to get there absolutely worth it. A stunning garden center with orchids, fruit trees, a myriad of colorful plants and lush vegetation. A must see!

The visibility was lower than I expected at the front (although it was still much clearer than the surrounding sea), so it was a bit disappointing, but once I swam further in, the visibility was higher, the seabed was white sand, and with the good weather, my shadow was reflected on the seabed, which was beautiful. Nice place for snorkeling, even under windy/rainy conditions as it’s mostly protected from the wind. However, some areas are already dead with only a few fishes, others more alive where you can see some stuff going on (clown fish, puffer fish, trumpet fish, …). Definitely worth a visit 👍🏻

Nago Pineapple Park is a delightful theme park that immerses visitors in the fascinating world of pineapple cultivation. Here, you can embark on engaging tours and savor delicious tastings, all while enjoying the lush surroundings. The park also features a charming café and a gift shop where you can find unique souvenirs to remember your visit. Nestled in Okinawa's stunning West Coast region, known for its breathtaking beaches and luxurious resorts, this area offers an extraordinary atmosphere reminiscent of tropical getaways abroad.
I kept hearing about pineapple park from various different people so I decided to finally go and visit. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I was not disappointed by any means. I never knew there were so many different types of pineapples and what could be done with them. There were so many different baked goods and drinks with pineapple in them. The cakes are soft and moist and go well with a cup of coffee. The brewery and distillery was the most modern part of the park. The wine is amazing and I definitely recommend getting a bottle or two.
Michael W — Google review
I personally loved this, obviously if you go you can’t take yourself or the park too seriously because it’s a park mixed with pineapples and dinosaurs. It is pretty small so you only need like 2hours if you are stopping and enjoying any of the pineapple treats, maybe like 1 hour if you don’t. I walked up around 4pm and didn’t have to wait in line to get in and there wasn’t many people so I’m not certain how busy this place could get. There are three places they automatically take photos in the pineapple section and yes I bought one for 1000¥, it has classic theme park photo vibes and I love it. I kind of wish I did the dinosaur photos simply for the last photo area, but f you grab a piece of paper from where they sell the pineapple photos there are three areas you scan it and it will take a photo of you. There are a few stops along the way with pineapple food. The first place I had the pineapple float and it was good but not what I would consider amazing. The second area I had a pineapple skewer and I had a perfectly ripe piece of pineapple that was so juicy and sweet that I definitely recommend having one. The next areas were the gifts shops where they give free samples of the items they sell and I would have bought the pineapple cake for my dad if only the best before date was a little longer, unfortunately it was short by a couple days, but I got the cookies I was able to try. After this is the wine room which was my favorite, I think you can have small samples of the wine but I didn’t do that. I went for the 1000¥ wine tasting of three of the wines, my favorite was the red dessert style wine. Over all very enjoyable theme park and if my family ever joins me on a visit to Okinawa I will definitely recommend this
Monica W — Google review
A cute place and definitely fun for kids, but not really exciting for adults. The pineapple theme is everywhere and the self-driving cart is a nice idea, but overall it feels more like a children’s attraction than a real sightseeing spot. Good for families, but you can skip it if you’re traveling alone or as a couple.
Ricardo S — Google review
This place is an absolute fever dream. If you’ve ever thought ‘I wish there was a place where I could see dinosaur animatronics while trying 5 types of pineapple ice cream’.. PINEAPPLE PARK IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! From a shockingly high quality botanical garden to an upscale pineapple bar, pineapple park will not disappoint. This was one of our most memorable spots on our Okinawa trip.
Hannah D — Google review
Was awesome to visit again (last visit 2010) and experience it with my kids this time. The wine and sweets were as good as I remember them. I liked that it had been added to and wasnt as busy as the other places we had visited.
Brittney P — Google review
We went as four adults. While I am certain this place would appeal especially to adults, we had an awesome time! So much fun. They provided English information, which was helpful. Seeing the pineapples growing everywhere was delightful. Make sure to check out the butterflies and to sample the snacks and liquor. I especially enjoyed the dry pineapple sparkling win. We bought a few kinds of wine and a beautiful cake! We ate in the restaurant and the food was great. Unfortunately I didn’t take many pictures!!
Jill C — Google review
We came here with no expectations and were blown away! If you’re looking for something that is unique and charming, look no further. The production value for 1500 yen is insane considering we got a tour of the pineapple farm on a pineapple train, an automated pineapple buggy ride through a dinosaur forest, and a walking tour of animatronic PINEAPPLE THEMED DINOSAURS!! Super cute how everything kept to the pineapple theme. Not to mention the pineapple popsicles are very refreshing and delicious. Highly recommend for some jolly good fun!

This enduring aquarium showcases impressive large tanks filled with vibrant coral and majestic whale sharks, creating an enchanting backdrop for visitors. The highlight here is undoubtedly the outdoor dolphin shows featuring Oki-chan and her playful companions. These delightful performances include high jumps and dance routines that captivate audiences of all ages against the picturesque setting of the East China Sea and Ie Island.
The show is included in the aquarium entry ticket so I recommend watching if you’re there and have the time! It was really fun and entertaining, but it wasn’t very long. But I still enjoyed it a lot!

I have not watched a dolphin show in years mainly because I do not support in capturing wildlife just for the sake of human entertainment. But I have to admit that it is always exciting to see such beautiful creatures appearing in front of you. I was only able to see the last few seconds of the show and I still hope that one day the dolphins would be able to return their real home.

All wet! They should really provide more explanations when asking people to sit nearby, especially since we think there could be opportunities for feeding and interacting with dolphins. Most of us are tourists and families! I saw kids crying crazily after the show because they got wet unexpectedly.

Nice place to go with kids to learn about tropical fruits. It is a large place, your kids can do physical activities like ringing bells or walking a long. You may be able to get discount coupons for lunch buffet.
Huyen V — Google review
Didn't have kids with us but I still had a blast to go with a group of young adults. It was a fun interactive educational experience. We were learning about the many different kinds of fruits, most of which, we didn't even know existed. The attractions are in multiple languages so everyone can still read it and have fun, though the stamp machines were mainly in English. Which were really cool to find and use. I can see how it would be bad to wait in line to use them though. It's just a cutesy cheesy experience for us going without kids but I still think it's worth it for the first time. Maybe not multiple visits since the magic of the surprises would be gone. The giftshop at the end gives you a free pin for going through as well. Their snow cones are really great and are served with a scoop of ice cream too.

A fairy themed farm combining various fruit trees. It’s not a high tech theme park but instead they use simple mechanisms for hiding clues and turn it into a fun experience for kids. The main attraction is to see so many varieties of fruit trees from all over the world. There are no bathroom in the course so it’s recommended to use it at theme parks souvenir store next to the entrance. The bathroom design was interesting with a bookshelf wallpaper at the entrance and colored themes.

Bisezaki is a popular destination known for its scenic views and shallow waters, making it perfect for snorkeling among tropical fish. Visitors can rent bicycles to cycle to the northern tip of the peninsula, where the water is shallow and blue. This spot is ideal for families and beginner snorkelers as the snorkeling spots are easily accessible, especially during low tide.
Dropped by for half an hour to admire the scenery of this small, quiet but beautiful beach. The water is very clear as well. Unfortunately did not have the time to do some snorkeling here, which is a popular activity and there is even a shop that rents snorkeling equipment here. Do note that parking here costs 500 yen per entry. Visited in September 2024.

Mount Yae is a picturesque coastal mountain in Okinawa, offering easy hiking trails, playgrounds, a shrine, and stunning views. It's renowned for its spring cherry blossoms, particularly the Kanhi-zakura variety. Visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty while taking leisurely walks or driving up the mountain to witness breathtaking vistas of Nago and Katsudake. Despite being windy at times, the panoramic views make it worth the visit.
Great place, especially during the Sakura season. The trees are everywhere. Not a lot of parking around the upper part of the mountain and the roads are very narrow.
Anthony S — Google review
Mount Yae is a stunning spot to enjoy sakura, but it tends to get very crowded during the sakura season, especially around their sakura festival. If you prefer a more peaceful experience, consider visiting after the festival and on weekdays when the crowds thin out. The scenery is still breathtaking, and you’ll have more space to truly appreciate the beauty of the cherry blossoms. It’s a perfect spot for a serene and picturesque outing!
Danielo T — Google review
These are photos that were taken in late January 2020. The cherry blossom is a flower of many trees of genus Prunus. The most well-known species is the Japanese cherry, Prunus serrulata, which is commonly called "sakura". The typical lifespan of sakura chrysanthemums is 10-14 days. They bud, bloom, and wilt in this short span. The sakura species in Mount Yae (and in Okinawa in general) is called Ryukyu Kanhizakura. At the place where we were, there were more than 7000 of Ryukyu Kanhizakura from the foot to the top.

Yaedake Sakuranomori Park is a stunning park located on the slopes of Mount Yae, known for its early spring cherry blossoms. The park hosts the Yae-dake Cherry Blossom Festival and boasts over 7,000 sakura trees lining the mountain road. Visitors can enjoy the vibrant kanhi sakura blossoms from late January through February, attracting numerous flower-viewing enthusiasts.
When I went, only a few cherry blossoms had bloomed. I believe it would be very beautiful when all the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. There is a pathway called the Cherry Blossom Trail lined with cherry blossom trees, but I think it may not be suitable for the elderly due to the somewhat high steps.

Bruce B — Google review
What a spectacular park! There were so many gorgeous Sakura trees in bloom and the Cherry Blossom festival was a big hit. I didn’t expect there to be so many cherry blossom trees or for there to be beautiful trails lined with them. I was in my glory walking through the woods and listening to the chatter of birds along the way. I thought the grounds were well kept with plenty of parking to accommodate such a popular festival. There were stands with food & drinks available and so many photo opportunities. It was lovely seeing all the families and couples enjoying the afternoon surrounded by beauty. There was also a very large playground for children to enjoy and areas to enjoy a picnic. I would definitely recommend taking the drive to see such a pretty park nestled in nature and to visit while the Sakura Festival is happening for an extraordinary experience!

A great sight seeing trip from southern Okinawa. We took the drive up and enjoyed the oceanfront views and quieter pace of life in the northern Nago area. The roads get to be quite narrow on the climb up the mountain, but it's worth it even on a busy day. Our trip was a little early to catch most of the blooms, but they have a very nice park, some hiking trails, and lots of little booths for foods.

Cherry Blossoms Mt. Yaedake is a stunning sight during the cherry blossom season, with the entire road adorned by cherry trees and lanterns that illuminate the trees at night. The festival held halfway up the hill adds to the enchanting experience. Despite heavy traffic, visitors find it worthwhile due to the breathtaking views and ample cherry blossoms on display. Parking at the top is limited, so arriving early is advisable.
