Besakih Great Temple, also known as Pura Besakih, is the largest and most important Hindu temple in Bali. Situated in the Karangasem regency with Mount Agung as its backdrop, this holy site features 23 temples, including the central Pura Penataran Agung Besakih and 18 companion temples surrounding it.
Very nice place! Amazing. Not very crowded, you can see local Balinese people performing rituals, praying, and ceremonies. When you enter, a guide is assigned to you. We got Putu, an excellent guide who explained absolutely everything about the place, the statues, and the meaning of each thing. A beautiful experience! Highly recommend

Besakih Temple is absolutely majestic...known as the Mother Temple of Bali, it’s the largest and most sacred temple complex on the island. Located high on the slopes of Mount Agung, it offers incredible views and a deep spiritual atmosphere. The place feels powerful yet peaceful, surrounded by misty mountains and ancient stone gates. Make sure to wear a sarong (you can find it at the entrance) and go early to enjoy the calm before the tour groups arrive. A must-visit to experience the true soul of Bali!
Souad Y — Google review
Besakih Temple is the largest Hindu Temple in the island of Bali, built on the slope of Mount Agung: to be precise it's a complex of 25 different but related temples. The entrance is marked by a "Candi Bentar", the famous split gateway that can be found all over Bali. Unfortunately when I visited there was bad weather so I couldn't enjoy the view of the surroundings. The temple itself is quite nice.
Francesco X — Google review
It's a beautiful temple, definitely with a visit. It takes about 1.5 hours to greet there from Ubud, so plan your itinerary well. We went on a Monday, arrived at around noon, and experienced no wait to buy the ticket. The ticket includes a strong, a guide, and a 2 minute ride up to the temple entrance. You have to walk back down, though I did see the shuttle return with passengers so 🤷. There are lots of steps inside the complex, so come prepared. Steps are irregular, and I saw at least one person slip on what might have been moss. There are souvenir shops inside, as well as toilets.
Avneesh K — Google review
Visiting Pura Besakih, the Mother Temple of Bali, was an unforgettable experience. The complex is enormous and filled with history, spirituality, and breathtaking architecture. Walking through its many levels with Mount Agung rising in the background truly feels magical. What impressed me most was the atmosphere – it’s both deeply spiritual and welcoming. The views over the mountains and rice terraces are absolutely stunning, especially when the clouds move around the volcano. If you want to experience the heart of Balinese culture and spirituality, this is definitely a place not to miss.
Rhythmic B — Google review
I give it 2 stars because the place looks absolute georgous. There are at the moment renovations happening and because of this some parts are closed. Everthing else is a big scam as soon as they put a sarong on you, you already pass ladies with offerings and they told us every tourist have to buy. So we bought 100k for 2 offerings. Later with the prayer you HAVE to make an donation to make your offering, if you don't pay then the offering don't count. The guide was really looking into our wallets and said we have to pay around 50 dollars each. We paid some but definitely no 50 dollar each. They think Europeans are rich, but we are definitely not. He also takes you passed some photographers to take some pictures. I have to say the pictures looked amazing, but again you have to pay 350k for them. At the end of the tour the guide is begging for a tip and nothing was good enough everything was so low and he wasn't happy. ( I think in total we gave him like 50k) he wanted at least 100k The entrance tickets was 300k for 2 people including the guide. So my recommendations is that it's not worth the visit. You are being robbed of your money every step you take.
Gaby B — Google review
The temple itself was absolutely breathtaking—peaceful, grand, and well worth the visit. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the mandatory guide, who repeatedly pressured me for donations and tips. At one point, he even counted my donation in front of others, saying it was “too small,” which felt very uncomfortable and disrespectful. It’s a shame, because the spiritual atmosphere was beautiful, but the constant hassling made it hard to enjoy the moment. I hope future visitors can have a more respectful and serene experience.

Besakih Temple, Bali A true wonder of the world you can’t miss. The place has a very special energy, with stunning architecture and breathtaking views of Mount Agung. Every photo taken here looks like a work of art. An absolute must-see in Bali! Un imprescindible en Bali

Tirta Gangga is a serene spiritual retreat featuring stunning gardens and natural springs, offering opportunities for swimming and picnicking. The area surrounding Tirta Gangga is rich in tourist attractions, including the majestic Mount Agung, the Telaga Waja river for water rafting, the charming beach town of Candidasa, and the ancient village of Tenganan. Sidemen Valley is a hidden gem with beautiful rice fields, colorful markets, and a strong sense of community.
A peaceful and beautiful place, perfect for a relaxing visit. The gardens and water features are stunning, with spectacular views all around. There are some tourists, but it’s not overcrowded, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. While it’s possible to see everything in about 30 minutes, I highly recommend staying longer to truly enjoy the calm atmosphere and take in the peaceful surroundings. Definitely worth a visit.

A beautiful place located just off the road. Peaceful, colorful, and incredibly charming. A very vast area with many nooks and crannies that many people overlook. It's worth buying fish food at the local stalls. It's quite crowded, but the place is worth visiting for its unique charm. Paid parking is available on-site, with plenty of spaces. Restaurants serving good food and quick service are located both on-site and nearby, and prices are practically the same as everywhere else.
Łukasz M — Google review
Tirta Gangga, the famous “Water Palace” in East Bali, feels like stepping into a dream woven from water, stone, and sunlight. Built by the royal family of Karangasem, this place is surrounded by lush gardens, clear ponds, and sacred springs that shimmer under the Balinese sky. 🌿 The stone paths float gently over the water, and as you step from one lotus-shaped stone to another, koi fish swirl gracefully beneath your feet. Every ripple feels alive — like time moves slower here. The sound of trickling fountains and the scent of blooming flowers make it a perfect escape from the world outside. There’s a quiet peace in this place — a balance between human art and nature’s beauty. You can sit by the pond, dip your fingers into the cool water, and feel a sense of calm that words can barely describe. It’s not just a sightseeing spot; it’s a place where your soul takes a deep breath. 🌸

This was an absolutely beautiful and historic location that feels like stepping into a living postcard. The grounds are impeccably kept, with vibrant plants and flowers adding to the serene atmosphere. There are endless opportunities for stunning photos, including the famous Instagram-worthy stepping stone area, which surprisingly did not have too long of a line even during the busy season. The small museum on-site was both informative and interesting, giving context to the rich history of the site. Visitors were respectful and courteous, which made the experience even more enjoyable. This is a must-see stop for anyone looking to enjoy Balinese culture, history, and breathtaking scenery all in one visit.

We visited Tirta Gangga as part of our East Bali Tour programme. This is a very well maintained and clean place, which was used as a former water palace. We learned it was named after the sacred river Ganges in India. You can hop on and walk on stones to cross the ponds. There are so many well-fed and big koi fishes in ponds that look lovely. We had also visited Ubud Water Palace before, Tirta Gangga is bigger than that so it was worth visiting. There is also a cafe & restaurant you can sit and relax.
Didem A — Google review
I visited Tirta Gangga and it was truly a sight to behold. This former royal water palace is incredibly scenic — a gorgeous blend of tranquil pools, flowing fountains, lush gardens, and traditional stone statues. Everywhere you turn feels like stepping into a postcard. The grounds are beautifully laid out, with stepping stones that take you across the water and let you wander right through the ponds surrounded by koi fish. It’s peaceful and elegant, with a charming, almost dream-like atmosphere that makes you want to take your time exploring every corner. Tirta Gangga is also full of photo opportunities. From the famous stepping stones to the ornate structures and beautifully landscaped gardens, there’s no shortage of stunning backdrops. Whether you’re looking for serene scenery or iconic Bali shots, you’ll definitely find them here. Overall, Tirta Gangga is a must-visit if you enjoy history, culture, and beautiful landscapes. It offers a perfect mix of calm, beauty, and just enough adventure as you hop stone-to-stone through the water. A truly picturesque stop and one of Bali’s most charming sites.
Latisha D — Google review
Stopped here as part of our East Bali tour and it was beautiful! The fish are huge and really beautiful to look at. Great place to take some photos and just enjoy the scenery. Definitely would recommend a stop here.
Travis K — Google review
Thankfully not too many tourists with our schedule, so it was easy to capture and create some lovely memories. Hot day, food and drinks were reasonably priced. Organised to leave our travel bags with a local restaurant (after taking out our wallets) for 50.000rp, with the promise to buy a drink later too. All good. Fun to feed the fat fish !

3Penataran Agung Lempuyang Temple

Hindu temple
The Temple of Penataran Agung Lempuyang is a collection of Hindu temples located on a hillside, known for its iconic 'heaven' gate and stunning views of Mount Agung volcano. The complex consists of three main temples dedicated to Shiva, along with smaller temple groups. It hosts fifty-five different ceremonies annually, including the significant Betara Turun Kabeh during the full moon of the tenth month in the Balinese lunar calendar.
Gates of Heaven at Lempuyang Temple – A Mixed Experience We scootered 2 hours from Canggu as first time Bali visitors to visit the famous Gates of Heaven at Lempuyang Temple. The ride itself was scenic and enjoyable, especially as we got closer to the mountains. The temple is undeniably beautiful—rich in history and culture, with sweeping views that make the journey worthwhile on their own. What most people don’t tell you, though, is the reality of the photo situation. After paying for entry at the bottom, you’re assigned a number for the iconic “floating reflection” photo. What followed was a surprising 1–2 hour wait just to have your number called. Many visitors spend this time either relaxing or exploring the surroundings, but it’s definitely something to plan for if you're on a schedule. Once you're near the top, you'll likely be offered the chance to dress in traditional Balinese attire for an additional fee. The original price quoted to us was 750,000 IDR, but we negotiated it down to 500,000 IDR—though pricing may vary depending on your negotiating skills or timing. In the end, we decided not to wait for our photo turn and instead took in the atmosphere, architecture, and stunning views. Even without the Instagram-famous shot, it was still a memorable experience. If you're going primarily for the photo, just be prepared for the wait and some extra costs.
S L — Google review
This has sadly become the check box for your Bali trip. So much so like if you haven't taken those special photos at Lempuyang then your trip is incomplete. The peer pressure for social media acceptance is just unreal. The temple and the location is undeniably beautiful. The journey from Ubud or Kuta should take 2-3 hours respectively. However as you may have read in most of the other reviews; the only and only factor is the constant expenditure that you have endure in terms of entrance tickets, shuttle fare, snacks, water etc. The pictures that you see in the all the reviews are the same. There is hardly much to see around if you are going there for those photos. I just wonder who came up with that reflection trick in the first place. This phenomenon has transformed the photo clicking business across Bali. Now it is a multi-million dollar industry. Sarcasm aside; Lempuyang temple is worth visiting. The shuttle ride will be one hell of a roller coaster ride. You can admire the skill of the shuttle drivers on those steep slopes. Food and refreshment facilities are limited. You will need to spend money at the nearby shops for everything that you need while you wait for 2-3 hours for your turn.
Birat B — Google review
Penataran Agung Lempuyang Temple is a stunning and culturally rich site, and it truly breaks my heart to give only 3 stars. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the grounds offer countless photo opportunities, including the world‑famous “Heaven’s Gate” view with the mountains perfectly framed behind you. The experience is very well organized with a fair system for guests, calling numbers for photo turns and providing a photographer who uses your phone and a mirror to create that iconic reflection effect. The reason for the lower rating is the wait. Unless you arrive by around 5 a.m., you can expect to wait anywhere from 2 to 6 hours for your turn at the main photo spot. For many visitors this makes the visit exhausting and limits the time you have to enjoy the temple itself. It is still worth seeing for the beauty and cultural experience, but the long wait keeps it from being the magical stop it could be.
Sean D — Google review
This temple 🛕review is going to be a hit 🎯and miss 😖, here’s my honest review 📝. To get 🚶‍♀️to Penataran Agung Lempuyang Temple 🛕, you firstly have to park at a common Carpark 🅿️. (See my pics 📸) At this common carpark, you will need to pay 💵 Rp$50,000 to take a bus 🚌up to the hill ⛰️top where the temple 🛕 is actually located. This is a very steep climb 🧗on a meandering road 🏘️, well over 2km, you cannot 🙈⛔️ possibly consider walking 🚶‍♀️🚶up with all the buses 🚌🚍🚎 running at full speed. You will be reminded at this point that women 👩🏻‍🦳👩🏼‍🦰👱🏼‍♀️within their menstrual cycle 🩸will not allowed 🚫 into the temple 🛕. (*With this in mind 🤨, if you are having your period, you can skip this visit completely. Do not contaminate consecrated ground 😔.) Once you get to the top 🔝, you will have to pay 💵 another Rp$70,000 to walk up to the temple. And that’s where they will tell you, in-order to take the famous picture 📸 of the Gates ⛩️ of Heaven, the wait time ⏳ is 2-3hrs.  The walk will take another 10mins from ticket counter to get to the top. Once you are at the top, you can collect a queue ticket 🎟️ and wait for your turn to be called 🗣️ on the loud 📣 speakers and have your photos taken at the gates ⛩️. In-between that, most people walk around, take more pictures and video 📹, or rent the traditional costume 🥻👘👗for another Rp$750,000. Thoughts 🧐 are … the view up there is truly breathtaking 😎. You will get a view like no other heading for miles and miles, it’s pretty amazing. 🌟✨⭐️ The Gates to Heaven will make a perfect IG photo opportunity and that is really beautiful too especially, if it is a clear ☀️ day and the mountain 🗻behind comes out clearly. However, the long wait is something to consider 🧐 and also that short climb from carpark 🅿️ to the temple main door is very steep 🎢 and I think it will present difficulties to the wheelchair 👩‍🦽‍➡️folks and also those with walking 🚷 difficulties.
Ivan P — Google review
Is a beautiful turist spot in Bali . You can’t coming here without visiting this Temple . But be prepared to wait in line for 1 1/2 to 2 hours to take the picture at tue beautiful doors with the Volcano behind.! Getting there is to a long trip because traffic is a nightmare in Bali . … but is a nice view and you quill not regret.!
Roberto M — Google review
Tourist Trap – Gates of Heaven at Lempuyang Temple Getting here from Ubud takes about 2–3 hours. Once you arrive at the temple, you’re not allowed to drive up with your own car. Instead, you’re forced to take a shuttle bus, which costs 50k IDR per person. However, the shuttle doesn’t take you all the way up to the temple either—you’ll then be directed to motorbike taxis for another 20k IDR per person. You can walk instead, since the distance isn’t too far, but they’ll tell you it is just to convince you to pay. Entrance costs 70k IDR per person. Be prepared to pay for absolutely everything here, usually at prices about 70% higher than normal. For example, a simple bottle of water is 10k IDR. Even the toilets aren’t free, and in some cafés you might be told there are no toilets available at all. With your entrance ticket, you’ll receive a queue number to take photos at the famous “Gates of Heaven.” Waiting time for your turn can be anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. The view is indeed beautiful, but almost nobody actually takes the time to enjoy it—most people are here just to get photos for social media. If you’re genuinely looking to visit a historic temple, this is not the right place for you. The local people here are unfortunately not welcoming; in fact, some can come across as quite rude, seeing visitors only as a source of money. It feels like a poorly managed tourist trap rather than a spiritual site. Honestly, I would not recommend supporting it.
Adem A — Google review
Its a beautiful temple, no doubt. But felt like a tourist trap. If you want to snap your artificially mirrored picture of you at gates, its a long wait. I recommend going early. If you are lucky you can see the mountain behind the gates. It can get foggy and misty in the early hours. However, the queue system is well organised and everyone can go home happy with their Instagramable picture at the gates.
Ananth R — Google review
Beautiful experience with amazing views and great photo opportunities! To get the best out of it, make sure to wake up early, this place gets crowded fast. The photo queue can be long, so the earlier you arrive, the earlier your token number. Each person gets 4 poses, and the staff take the photos using your own phone. Definitely worth the early start for such a unique and iconic spot!

Virgin Beach, located near Bukit Asah in Bugbug village, is a stunning white sand beach that has gained popularity despite its name suggesting otherwise. While it used to be less frequented by international tourists, it has now become one of the well-known white sand beaches in East Bali. The beach offers clear waters perfect for snorkeling during low tide and is known for its high waves during high tide, making swimming unsafe.
Great natural beach with many services. Rich underwater life, we even seen a turtle. Access from two sides. At both entrances they charge 20,000 IDR per scooter.
Jaroslav M — Google review
I think it was a one off, but the waves were intense! Not safe for young children to go into the water. But locals said normally it's super calm. I still give it a 5* rating. Super chill vibe, reasonable prices for sunbeds and umbrellas, gorgeous views. Nothing really to complain about.

A beautiful location with white sands and turquoise sea. The drive there had spectacular views of the peninsula. The restaurant was prime location but could have been better quality food.

If you don't mind the drive, this is a great place. White sand, crystal clear warm water, it's a really special place. Getting there can be challenging for some however, so do your diligence. I suggest leaving early in the morning to avoid eastbound traffic
Mitch L — Google review
One of the most beautiful beaches we’ve visited – peaceful atmosphere, clear water, and gorgeous views. Whether you admire it from the cliff viewpoint or right at the shore, it’s simply stunning. The vibe is super chill, prices for sunbeds and umbrellas are reasonable, and the breeze makes it extra relaxing. The beach feels natural but also has plenty of services, and the underwater life is rich – we even spotted a turtle! 🐢 Access is possible from two sides, and at both entrances they charge 20,000 IDR per person. Be careful not to miss the turning spot though – the entrance from the main road is very narrow. The service from the nearby warungs is excellent. There’s a nice variety of food and drinks available along the beach, and if you order, you don’t pay for the long chairs – they even provide fresh clean towels. I recommend the fish and seafood 🐟🦐. Snorkeling equipment is also available, and having an ice-cold Bintang here is priceless 🍺. There are only a few sellers walking around, but many skilled masseuses. You should try massage at the beach here. The sea is usually wavy but thanks to the sheltered bay you can enjoy cool water. Still, there are safe spots to swim and enjoy. Overall, a wonderful natural beach with clear water, great food, friendly service, and an excellent vibe. Highly recommended!
Senay A — Google review
A hidden gem! Soft white sand, turquoise water, and a relaxed vibe with small warungs serving fresh seafood. Perfect for swimming or just unwinding away from crowds.

Taman Ujung, also known as Soekasada Ujung Park, is a former water palace and gardens located in the village of Tumbu in Karangasem District, Bali. Built in 1909 and restored in 1963 after the eruption of Mount Agung, this scenic royal site features large pools, lush gardens, and historical photos. It is often referred to as the 'floating palace' due to its breathtaking beauty.
A peaceful and beautiful place, perfect for a relaxing visit. The gardens and water features are stunning, with spectacular views all around. We happened to be there while a couple was taking their wedding photos, which made the experience even more special and interesting. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area

Beautiful gardens spread out across a spacious property. Not crowded like other popular destinations in Bali. Still some great photo spots. Colourful gardens. Serene water features. A view of the ocean. Very peaceful.
Calvin S — Google review
Taman Ujung Sukasada, often simply called Taman Ujung, is a captivating historical site and former royal water palace of the Karangasem Kingdom in East Bali. Unlike the pure Balinese style of many temples, this complex stands out with its unique and elegant blend of Balinese and European architecture, set across expansive lawns and large, serene pools connected by ornate bridges and pathways. It's a vast, peaceful location that functions more like a beautifully manicured historical park than an active place of worship. The key draw here is the phenomenal natural scenery, offering panoramic views of the entire complex, the shimmering ocean, and the majestic Mount Agung as a dramatic backdrop on a clear day, making it an absolute delight for photographers and a popular spot for pre-wedding shoots. While the entrance fee is sometimes noted as being slightly high for what is essentially a scenic walk, the tranquility and sheer scale of the palace grounds make it worth the trip, especially if you are seeking a quiet escape from the more crowded tourist hubs. For the best experience and photos, climb the impressive staircase leading to the upper viewpoint (Bale Kapal), which provides the most encompassing vista of the pools and the surrounding landscape. The best time to visit is during the golden hour in the late afternoon, as the setting sun bathes the entire site in warm, magical light, highlighting the intricate architecture and enhancing the peaceful atmosphere.
Fergi R — Google review
The highlight of my trip to Bali. It’s so beautiful and peaceful. The view is magnificent with a mixed view of garden, historic building, mountain and ocean. It is vast and very open feeling. Totally enjoyed every minute in it. Enjoying a fresh coconut under the tree makes you feel the true relaxation and happiness.
Zhu J — Google review
Beautiful place worth a visit. Vast gardens and intriguing history. Get a guide to complete the experience. It's amazing how old this place and still in commendable condition being so close to the sea.
Touge R — Google review
Beautiful water palace, with very few other visitors. Entrance was 100k each. Not a religious site, so no dress code. There are a couple of small cafes insides serving cold drinks - much appreciated. I had read online there is a 500k drone fee, but I asked a security guy once inside and he said "go ahead, no charge"
Greg R — Google review
This water palace is definitely worth a visit. We visited over 10 years ago and then in May 2025. A lot of work has been done to make it a great tourist spot. There is a bit of history, good views and very pleasant to walk around
Bronwen H — Google review
A visit to this stunning water palace is nothing short of magical. Surrounded by lush green gardens, with the serene beach on one side and majestic mountains on the other, it’s a true feast for the eyes and soul. The natural beauty here feels like a perfectly painted landscape brought to life. Evenings are especially enchanting—when the golden sunset bathes the entire area in warm light, creating a tranquil and dreamy atmosphere. It’s the ideal time to visit, whether you’re capturing photos, enjoying a peaceful walk, or simply soaking in the breathtaking views. At the heart of the palace complex lies a beautifully designed museum, an architectural marvel that reflects both historical richness and artistic elegance. The detailing, the layout, and the surrounding water features make it a place you’ll want to admire up close. This palace is vast, offering ample space to explore at your own pace. It’s perfect for a relaxing stroll, with plenty of peaceful corners to sit and reflect. Whether you're a history lover, a nature enthusiast, or just someone looking to unwind in a spectacular setting, this spot has something truly special to offer. Blue Lagoon Beach is a serene resort with villas surrounded by gardens, featuring a spa, pool, and a restaurant/bar overlooking the sea. Located on the east side of Bali islands, it's about 1.5 hours from Kuta by car but well worth the drive. The beach is a hidden paradise and a top spot for snorkeling enthusiasts due to its clear waters and rich coral reefs teeming with colorful fish.
Nice little beach in walking distance from Padang Bai harbour. Ideal place to go while waiting for next day boat ride. Beautiful bay for snorkelling with pristine water, loads of corals and different fish species, lucky ones can spot a turtle also. You can rent a sunbed or lay down on the sand, not many people are coming here, most come from snorkelling tours, so the beach is quite empty.

Turns out as a gray or green lagoon? LOL! I don't know, you be the judge. Could be due to the gloomy cloudy weather when I arrived, but as far as I know, a lagoon color should not be affected very much by the daylight, unless extreme weather maybe. The beach was not enticing at all, with rubbish all over. There was heavy raining the day before till the morning so I'll give this blue lagoon claim a benefit of doubt. We stayed for a while and left without entering the water because the wave looks rough. Worth a visit? Definitely not. Still want to visit? Than better wait for nice sunny weather.
John T — Google review
The beach is small, but with light sand. The waves are strong, the water is a beautiful color, but since the port is located right behind the cape of the lagoon, at some point there was a lot of debris and muck floating in the water that was thrown overboard from tourist ships or elsewhere, and this made swimming in this place unpleasant. An interesting fact was that tourists book a snorkeling package on the other side of the cape, which is actually just a hill climb away, and then they are brought a few dozen meters around the cape to the lagoon to snorkel, when at the same time you could walk for 15 minutes and then rent a snorkeling gear on the lagoon and do it yourself there 😀. Is this a place where you can ride a scooter for 45 minutes...then the answer is no, it didn't make me feel like I would make such a trip again.
Juri H — Google review
Parking 2k idr Snorkelling set rental fee from the shop nearby 75k idr The corals are thriving, fishes are a lot, we saw some gamat and eels as well. Just make sure not to step on corals since it's quite shallow. There are some rubbing near the shore which can dampen the mood, but the fishes made up for it.
Izz B — Google review
A small lagoon that could be so good if looked after, but sadly is being used and not maintained. A short walk (think meters) from Padang Bai up a steep tarmac slope and down a flight of rough steps. Parking at the top 2K for bikes, 5k for cars. The small bay has a couple of bars that rent out snorkelling equipment (60k for fins, mask, snorkle). The beach is as rubbish strewn as the path down to the bay and sadly this rubbish is floating around the reef. It is only a small area of reef which is basically in the bay you can see. The water was clear when we were there, just with a haze of bits floating around. As you enter the water from the beach there are a few strong waves but as soon as you are past them it becomes easy to paddle around. The reef is not deep and easy to dive down. There are an OK range of fish to see, probably more for beginner snorkellers. A few interesting corals in different colours. An hour is probably all you to need to fully explore the reef.
Paul T — Google review
The views from 1B are gorgeous. Otherwise you need to appreciate a rustic experience. Eg. Showers outside (privacy protected or course) water lukewarm, if it's pouring and you don't like mixing cool rain water with shower, then it's a problem.
M S — Google review
Stopped by on the way—parking was 2k, which is standard. The beach itself was average and a bit messy. I didn’t snorkel, so I can’t comment on that, but on the day I visited the water looked more green and grey than blue. To be fair, the weather was cloudy, so it might look much better on a sunny day."

Gembleng Waterfall is a popular tourist spot in East Bali, located specifically in Sidemen, Karangasem Bali. It has gained fame among tourists for its three multilevel infinity rock pools, making it very Instagram-worthy. The drive to the waterfall offers stunning views of local villages and landscapes. Nestled within lush tropical jungle, Gembleng Waterfall boasts cascading levels of water that provide picturesque views of Sidemen.
I liked it. It's easy to reach, following Google Maps. The streets partly a little rough. Drive carefully. It wasn't too crowded on a Friday early afternoon. The way up is OK. Not too many stairs. Maybe 100+/-. Lay in in one of the pools or enjoy the great view in the restaurant on top. For entry, as many here wrote, donate between 20-50K. It's worth.
Andy E — Google review
The stairs are quite high (typical Balinese steps), but totally worth it – the views are stunning! At the entrance you give a small donation, and there’s also a little restaurant with local prices, cheap and really good food. Definitely recommend coming here!
Anna C — Google review
Decent waterfall with multiple levels to get into the water. When we went in late Aug the water flow wasnt strong as rainy season was yet to kick in full force. I am sure the water flow will pick up rapidly in late September and October. The cafe on the top is decent. Good to have a nice beer or light snack after the climb or a dip in water :)
Suresh K — Google review
This waterfall is AMAZING! There is plenty of moto parking and a donation stand to enter. You have to climb many steps, but the views are worth it. There are various levels and small pools you can get in and great spots for photos. The restaurant at the top has an amazing view and toilets. There is a “shower” - water from the fall by the parking lot. Highly recommend it!
Carolina B — Google review
I went to visit Gembleng Waterfall as my last stop on my private tour in East Bali before settling in Sidemen. There were many parked vans, cars and motorbikes when I arrived so it made me think that the queue to take a picture in the "waterfall pool" would be massive, but to my surprise, there were only 2 couples before us. There were quite a few stairs to walk up/down but not as much as some other waterfalls I've already visited. There were changing rooms near the carpark as well as up near the restaurant (higher/further up the stairs past the "pool"). The water was refreshing and clean. Saw a few frogs around too :) Entry was by donation and I paid 20k.
Svetlana P — Google review
Surprisingly cool waterfall. Go to the very top the view is worth it! You can bath there. You can pay a donation to enter (no official ticket needed). Come early or late to skip the tourists (we went at 17-18 o clock, perfect sunset setting!)
Tobias G — Google review
First of all, really good view from the top of the waterfall. Second of all, it's perfect to just soak in the water and enjoy the breeze. The waterfall itself is not really spectacular in anyway, otherwise this place would be a 5 star
Jeffriyono S — Google review
Very beautiful waterfall. It looks even better in person than in photos. But be careful during the rainy season — we were at the top when it started raining heavily, causing the access path to flood, and we couldn’t get out for hours. The locals were extremely kind and helped us cross the river (panic!) and even get the motorbike across.

Waterfalls
Tukad Cepung Waterfall in Bali is a unique natural wonder that cascades through a cave opening, creating a mesmerizing sight as sunlight filters through. Unlike other popular waterfalls in Bali, Tukad Cepung offers the breathtaking experience of water flowing down rugged cliffs without forming a pool for swimming. The location provides an awe-inspiring view against the backdrop of the sky.
Had a lot of fun 'trekking' and wading through water to get to the waterfall. I was most at awe when looking up at the lush greenery surrounding you. There was also a very cute pool that you could swim in looking at one of the waterfalls. Went on a Sunday, wasn't horribly busy. Definitely need to bring water shoes.
Amanda — Google review
An incredible experience. The sheer force of the waterfall was mind-blowing. There weren't many people when I went on a Sunday afternoon (2.30-4PM) and the 4/5 people that were there didn't feel safe enough to actually get into the waterfall cave since it genuinely felt overpowering and the water pressure and splashes against the rock walls was all encompassing. With only two steps in, I was completely drenched. I did go in all the way and take some photos which were great and it was an amazing experience. Whilst I was walking/wading through the water, I almost stepped on a long brown snake, it then swam into the water past my legs - scary but I guess this is nature and expected. Just look where you're stepping! I also walked to the other side towards the small waterfall + pool - and this was a nice way to feel refreshed. For the adventurers, I highly recommend visiting!!!
Svetlana P — Google review
Is actually about 40min walk from the car park without the queue for buying tickets until the most beautiful part of the waterfall. The stairs are high steps, pathway to the waterfall is rocky, need to wade through waters as deep as upper thigh. (not suitable for elderly / unfit / people with balancing issues / knee pain). To be able to see the waterfall from beautiful angles just like the photos, you need to be physically fit and no heart attack histories. Really beautiful scenery as in photos on a sunny day. Hidden details of a long walk, not wheelchair or stroller friendly. Risks:- slip and fall because of slippery rocks, when it rains, higher water level unable to see where the rocks are.
Jevon C — Google review
Once you park your vehicle a the parking where there are souvenir shops, you have to walk and climb steps down atleast for 25-30 minutes to reach the waterfall. Once you the bottom of the valley , you can either go left to the waterfall that is shown on instagram or other side where you can bathe. When we reached the cave area, there was along line . People were going into the cave one by one, getting pictures clicked and coming back and then the next couple or person was going. I think we had to stand for 1 1/2 to 2 hours before our turn came. You cant bathe under the waterfall, it is too forceful. You can just get clicked there. We went in the evening around 4pm and our turn came around 5.30 or 6pm and it wasnt bright. Thats why i read somewhere that the best time to go is 10am in the morning. There are changing rooms, toilet and they also rent towels on charging basis.
Prachi C — Google review
Access to the waterfall is quite exciting and requires some physical fitness, as the stairs are steep and the steps are high, you also have to go through the water flowing from the waterfall, and you climb over rocks or crawl between rocks to reach your destination. The current of the river took one of my sandals with it, so I had to buy new sandals that were also sold near the waterfall...so this was not the first time, so be careful with your shoes when going to the waterfall because the current is strong. There are also places to eat there. It is worth going because the journey to it is already an experience in itself and of course the waterfall itself is worth seeing.
Juri H — Google review
2 beautiful waterfalls. Very very pleasant clean, clear, cool water. 1 hour to and from the carpark. Fairly well maintained paths, lots of steep steps, clean toilets. Reasonable entry fee of IDR300k per person. No one touting or hard selling.
Doris T — Google review
We went on a weekday around 2pm It takes exactly 20 mins to reach the waterfall. There are some 130-140 steep steps. There are 2 waterfalls once you get down . There was a queue to get clicked under the big one but small one was less crowded. We waited for 20 mins to grt our turn and got the pics clicked and then enjoyed the small waterfall. There are restaurants on the way back and restrooms at the start.. You need to use the same for changing.
Bhawana V — Google review
Entrance ticket is 30000IDR. Trust me the pictures or videos can not do justice to this place. You have to come by yourself to completely enjoy the reality of it. I am sure you would not regret your decision.. Please bring along a plastic bag or anything that protects your equipments from the water cuz trust me its gonna be water everywhere. Do bring water shoes or atleast wear something that's comfortable to walk at that terrain (just at some patches).. For adventurers like me i didnt care wearing flip flops cuz even the pain was worth it😁

Puri Agung Karangasem, also known as Karangasem Palace, is a historical royal palace in Amlapura Town, Bali. Built in the 19th century, it has witnessed Bali's rich history from the Majapahit Empire to Dutch occupation and Indonesia's independence. The palace features a blend of Balinese, Chinese, and European architectural styles with well-preserved historical buildings and a floating Gili pavilion surrounded by a lotus-filled moat.
One of the most historically important sites of Bali. We were the only visitors, such a shame. At the height of its power, the royal family of this palace controlled all of Bali and Lombok. In later wars, their influence was reduced to only the area around east Bali. Fearing further defeat, they asked the Dutch to intervene. This royal family of Klungkung (semarapura) didn't want to live under Dutch rule and made a suicidal "puputan" (see the Puputan memorial in Klungkung). The Dutch were grateful to their allies in Amarapura and made them the "stadhouder" of all of Bali, like Governor. As a gift, they built them this palace. The royal family is still the owner of this palace to this day.
Dokter R — Google review
Small former city palace within Amlapura. The grounds consist of a small palace with furnished living quarters and pavilions within a small artificial lake. The grounds are beautifully planted. The excursion destination is a nice change from the typical Bali destinations but not a must.
Felix B — Google review
Beautiful and quiet! Entrance fee is 100K Beautiful gardens and area to walk and take some pictures. No sarong is needed. Enjoy the views.
Carlos R — Google review
The Royal family members still live on site, so it's truly a living museum. The entrance is 30,000IDR and you will get an information pamphlet about the place. However, with no map, it can get quite confusing to find the places, and except for the receptionist, none of them can speak English. It might worth a visit if you are on a road trip across the town.

Nestled in the serene coastal town of Candidasa, Goa Lawah Temple is a captivating 11th-century Balinese Hindu temple that draws visitors with its unique charm. This sacred site is built around a small cave teeming with bats, adding an intriguing element to its spiritual ambiance. The temple complex serves as a significant cultural landmark in Klungkung, East Bali, where fascinating tales abound—like that of the Mengwi Kingdom prince who sought refuge within the cave during perilous times.
A beautiful and peaceful temple, definitely worth visiting. The highlight is the cave—you can clearly see the bats hanging at the entrance from the outside, which makes it quite unique. The temple is very active, with numerous ceremonies and prayers taking place throughout the day, offering a fascinating glimpse into local spirituality. At the entrance, they provide you with a sarong so you can enter respectfully, and they also place a flower necklace around your neck, which they kindly suggest you buy as a donation when you leave. It’s a culturally rich and meaningful experience.

We really loved this temple! The batcave was really special and something we never saw before. It was quiet and not overflown with tourists. The only thing we didn’t quite like were the people around the temple trying to sell things. They were quite disrespectful and kept pushing people to buy overpriced stuff.

Visitors can explore various levels and photo spots while enjoying the breathtaking scenery. While some may find it a bit daunting due to safety concerns, others appreciate the unique bamboo construction and the opportunity to relax in hammocks suspended 20 meters above ground.
Our family really enjoyed this place. For my daughter it was the highlight of the day. And even for me it was super fun. I thought this is a small place but they have so many three houses and a lot higher than you can imagine. We didn't dare go to the highest one since we were too scared of the height. The rope bridges were also super exciting to cross. The longest one we didn't try because my daughter who is 8yrs thought its too scary for her. Really liked the nature aspect and the views also Only minus I would say is that they don't have a proper western style seated clean toilet.

We thought this was just a tourist trap with a few stairs and chairs, but we were wrong. This place is amazing! So much to explore and do. Be sure to go to the highest point of the structure since the view is breathtaking. The bridges sometimes creek due to the bamboo constructions, but it is very safe. Most importantly, take the long bridge to the other side of the pond to relax in the hammocks and chill at a height of 20m!

The beach boasts clean sands and abundant coral reefs, providing excellent opportunities for snorkeling and diving. Visitors have reported sightings of sea turtles while snorkeling and various marine life while diving.
This is an amazing spot for turtle - watching! The turtle - viewing area is located on the left side of the beach. Due to a bit of rain followed by some sunlight, the water isn't crystal - clear. However, we were still lucky enough to spot turtles. It's highly recommended to bring your own diving mask and fins. You can simply wade into the water from the stony beach. Near the turtle - sighting point, there's a rich variety of corals. It's truly a place that's worth your time, and the best part? There's no entrance fee!

Water is crystal clear on a non windy day, but even on the windy day still clear enough to snorkel and see amazingly beautiful and colorful fishes corals. I love this place. So chill and old school Bali. Snorkeling straight off the beach and so many colorful beautiful fish and lovely coral gardens. Word of warning, the reef is sensitive and delicate. Please do not be one of those ignorant people who step on the coral reef. If enough people do this it won't stay beautiful for long.

Beautiful spot with warm, clear waters and plenty of colourful fish — perfect for a relaxing swim or snorkel. The natural surroundings are stunning and peaceful, especially if you come early in the day. On the downside, there are a lot of persistent vendors approaching you with offers for snorkeling and other services, which can interrupt the calm vibe. Also, I noticed tiny plankton bites while swimming, so I’d definitely recommend wearing a long-sleeve swimsuit or rash guard for extra comfort. Overall, it’s a lovely beach, especially for marine life lovers — just be prepared for the minor nuisances.

Tenganan Pegeringsingan Village, located in the east part of Bali, is one of the oldest traditional Balinese villages. It is renowned for its unique local community life pattern and cultural significance. This village stands out as an example of Bali Aga Village cultures and offers a more authentic experience compared to other touristy villages in Bali.
We left Tenganan Pegringsingan Village with a heart full of peace and admiration. This ancient Balinese village offers not only a glimpse into the island’s rich traditions and unique culture, but also a sense of serenity and authenticity that’s hard to find elsewhere. The people are incredibly warm and welcoming, and their pride in preserving centuries-old customs is truly inspiring. Walking through the narrow paths lined with traditional homes, watching the artisans weave double ikat textiles, and hearing the stories behind every ritual made the visit unforgettable. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a deeper, more meaningful connection with the real Bali.

Tenganan Pegringsingan Village is a very unique and culturally rich place to visit. The traditional houses, weaving demonstrations, and overall atmosphere give you a real glimpse into Bali’s heritage. The villagers are welcoming but not pushy, which made walking around feel relaxed. One thing to note is that while the environment is generally well kept, I did notice a few spots with the smell of dog poop here and there, which can be a little distracting at times. It’s not overwhelming, but just something to be aware of while exploring the pathways. Overall, it’s worth visiting for the authenticity, history, and local crafts, definitely a highlight of the area, with just a few small things that could be improved for comfort.
Choirib M — Google review
Lovely cultural experience. When you arrive they ask you for a donation, this money goes towards the children's education and construction of the new temple. From what we saw, people donated roughly $50-100k, but it's up to you Once you donated, a guide (ours spoke excellent English) will take you through the village and explain their local customs, religion, and the significance of their culture to you. He'll take you to his house and offer you the chance to purchase their wares (our guide had a wife that weaves, so they offered us a chance to buy their heritage listed fabrics). You're not pressured to buy, though it's nice if you do. Overall the tour was very informative, the people were very friendly, and we ended up visiting the local honey farm too and buying some local honey while learning more about the black bees narrative to this region. Great way to learn more about the original inhabitants of this island and their culture.

Amazing experience learning culture of original Balinese people here. It's quite an eye opening experience to see what the people here have to offer and their way of life. I like the entrance fee is based on donation instead of standard charge rate, it's earnest and doesn't make the village feel like money making zone. A beautiful old village that's definitely worth a visit. Very peaceful. The beekeeper there invited us for a drink and some honey and told us a bit about his craft and bees. It's a memorable one.

Extraordinary, ancient village. Many textile (Ikat) and antique shops. Teeming with chooks, dogs, cats and birds. Small donation on entry and QR code for self-tour. Really worth a look.
Megan M — Google review
With a small donation most people give around 100K, you get a local guide that walks you around the village. The tour takes about 1 hour and is informative about the history of the village and its culture. There is an opportunity to purchase items from the village if you wish.

The truest Balinese village without Majapahit and other external influence. In my opinion, it is the most underrated authentic Balinese village that still exist and untouched. Look for Cobby, a young chap who is always passionate about his root and culture, for the best local guide and activities around the neighbourhood. Looking forward to trekking with him in my next visit.

Bali Swing is a renowned tourist spot that provides visitors with the opportunity to swing above the lush greenery of the island. The swings are situated in various locations, each offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Despite initial skepticism due to limited reviews, visitors were pleasantly surprised by the magical setup overlooking rice fields and palm trees. The staff is highly accommodating and patient, ensuring a great experience for all guests.
Superb, exciting and thrilling experience with the most friendliest and smiling staff who make the experience much enjoyable!! The photographer was excellent and took some awesome one with breathtaking scenic backgrounds!! The swings were an experience of its own! A must do for all to live youth and childhood again!! Thank you Bali Swings 😍🤩

I loved the Bali Swing experience! The staff was incredibly helpful; they picked us up from the villa and drove us for three hours to the location. Once we arrived, the team assisted us in choosing dresses that best suited our body types and helped us with posing for photos.

I absolutely loved my experience at the Bali Swing! Everything was perfect from start to finish. The views over the jungle were breathtaking, the swings were both exciting and safe. The team was amazing — so friendly, professional, and helpful. They made sure I felt comfortable the whole time and even helped with taking great pictures. Their positive energy really added to the experience. It was one of the highlights of my trip, and I can honestly say it’s worth every moment. I’d give it a solid 5/5 and highly recommend it to anyone!
Chiara A — Google review
Visiting the Bali Swing was definitely one of those “only in Bali” moments — and it truly lived up to its reputation as a bucket-list photo experience. This is very much an attraction designed for the photos and aesthetics, and if you go in knowing that, you’ll enjoy it. We chose to wear the traditional satin, flowy dresses that you see all over social media, and it added so much to the overall feel of the shoot — dramatic, elegant, and perfectly suited for the jungle backdrop. The swings themselves are gorgeous and set up to frame you against the lush Bali greenery and valley view. We did four different swings, plus several additional photo setups around the grounds, and each one offered a slightly different vibe and perspective. Just be prepared: while it’s fun, the process takes time. It’s essentially a mini production — waiting for your turn, getting the dress draped just right, climbing onto each swing, and capturing multiple poses. If you’re expecting to breeze through in 20 minutes, it’s not that kind of activity. The staff deserves a huge shout-out. Everyone was super friendly, patient, and helpful. Even though we hired a professional photographer, there was always a staff member ready to grab extra shots on our personal phones at every swing. They clearly understand that content is the goal here and are very supportive in making sure you walk away with plenty of amazing footage. As an overall experience, the Bali Swing is exciting, playful, and very Instagram-forward. You’re not here for adventure or nature immersion — you’re here for beautiful visuals, dress-flowing drama, and a once-in-a-lifetime photoshoot in the jungle. And for that, it absolutely delivers. If you’re coming to Bali and want those iconic cinematic shots floating over the treetops, this is the place. Just bring your patience, your camera (or photographer!), and your best posing energy — because the content you’ll walk away with is worth it.

🌺 A Magical Bali Swing Experience – Pure Bliss Above the Jungle! 🌺 Our visit to the Bali Swing was nothing short of breathtaking — a perfect blend of adventure, serenity, and sheer beauty. As we soared high above the lush green valleys and winding rivers, the world seemed to pause. The gentle rush of wind, the sound of nature, and the panoramic views of Bali’s tropical landscape made it feel like I was flying in paradise. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive, ensuring everything felt both safe and magical. The attention to detail — from the harness to the picture-perfect setups — made the entire experience unforgettable. The photographers captured every moment beautifully, turning each swing into a memory that feels like a scene from a dream. Beyond the adrenaline rush, there was a deep sense of peace up there. Looking out over the emerald forests and feeling the sunlight on our face, we understood why Bali is called the Island of the Gods. Great Bali , Great people. God bless you all - From an Indian

Savana Tianyar, located in the village of Tianyar, is a unique destination near the beach and hills. During the dry season, visitors can witness vast yellow grasslands that turn into lush greenery during the rainy season. The savanna offers stunning views of Mount Agung and is perfect for photography sessions. However, access to the site may be challenging due to gravel roads. Despite its beauty, there are concerns about land degradation due to local sand mining activities.
Savana Tianyar offers stunning landscapes that are perfect for nature lovers seeking tranquility. The vast savanna, framed by Mount Agung in the background, provides plenty of opportunities for photography and relaxation. However, the journey to get there can be a bit challenging as the road is still covered with sand and stones. It is accessible by car or motorbike, but caution is advised, especially during the rainy season. There’s no official admission fee, but a small donation is appreciated at a designated spot along the way. Unfortunately, parts of the area are affected by sand mining, with large trucks and dredging operations visible in some spots, which slightly disrupts the natural beauty. Overall, it's a peaceful getaway for those who appreciate raw, untamed nature, but it would be even better with more efforts to preserve the area.
Alfakilo A — Google review
Nice place but kinda hard to get to. A gravel road up and you can’t go onto the savannah grass area as it’s blocked off with a bunch of branches and stuff. Got a bit unlucky with the weather but would look nice on a clear day. Quite a small place too but maybe worth visiting if you have the time and it’s a nice day

We wild camped with our campervan from East Bali Campervan. It was an epic spot, the views were insane of Mount Agung. There was no one else camping there so it was nice being so isolated. The only issue was that we’re was rather loud music which sounded like it was coming from 2 festivals near by, and where we camped there were no bathrooms. Would recommend this spot, just come prepared with supplies for food etc. Also it was free to stay!
Jade U — Google review
Honestly, this place is magical. When I stayed, there was only one camper van – super quiet and peaceful…Having Maggi and hot tea under the stars, then lying down while stargazing and watching the Milky Way… it really felt like another world🥰😍 Locals nearby are kind, you can ask for water or even use their toilet if needed. Simple, but enough. The host was very kind and even helped us set up the firewood for a BBQ And the view? Just wow. Sunrise is golden, and during the evening you’ll catch that dreamy purple sunset. One of the best moments of my life. If you love camping, bring your friends, chill, and experience it yourself – totally worth it!

The restaurant Lihat Sawah Warung is a lovely and welcoming place with colorful string lights and comfortable seating. It currently only serves dinner, but their menu is smaller so you need to order 2 drinks for the normal size of 1. The staff are attentive and take their food seriously - they're definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!
A very chill restaurant with amazing view, literally overlooking the rice field, just like their name "Lihat Sawah"! Everything was perfect when I was having lunch there with my friend. The view was absolutely beautiful. I could stay there forever! Another plus point was the super clean and spacious bathroom! Food was delicious. We loved the grilled tuna. The bebek mekalas was OK, would have been better with super spicy sauce ;) Would definitely go there again!

One of best meal we’ve had in Bali! My husband got the beef rendang - out of this world spicing that blew us both away! (And we are picky.) I had the Balinese grilled marinated chicken (Ayam Bakar), which was also delicious. Generous portions, very fresh. Gorgeous atmosphere, great service, great value!

We had a great meal here — the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The staff is super friendly, and the view is absolutely stunning. Located by the rice fields, with a view of the mountains and into the jungle, it’s a beautiful spot. The only small downside was that by lunchtime, they had run out of young coconuts and large bottles of water, which we were really looking forward to in the heat. Still, there were plenty of other refreshing options available. All in all, definitely recommendable!
Sebastian — Google review
Best meal during whole trip! Wow! Tuna salad was incredible and best rendang ive ever had. They also sell good coffee! Nice music and great vibe
Kait A — Google review
We intended to have lunch with view on the rice terraces. We were seated with the view shown on the picture. There was a constantly loud noise from a construction site directly next to the restaurant. That’s not the restaurants fault but naturally influenced our stay. The restaurant cart was handed to us and we placed our order. After a few minutes we were informed that almost half of the food we ordered (especially vergetarian options and non balinese food such as all pizza options) wasn’t available. The food itself was acceptable but nothing special. Overall I’d consider the food as overpriced. Our visit therefore was an absolute disappointment.

Overall, it was a lovely place. The staff are really friendly and attentive, the decor is nice and the atmosphere is relaxed. It's the first place in Bali I've seen that has disabled friendy toilets with a wide door and a support handle next to the toilet, which is great. Unfortunately, the pizza was quite dry and the other meals quite small.

Bukit Cinta, also known as the Mount Agung sunrise viewpoint, is a popular spot located on the side of a road in Eastern Bali. It offers breathtaking views of the active volcano, Mount Agung, along with rice terraces and palm trees during misty sunrises. Despite occasional weather challenges like fog and clouds, visitors can still enjoy the stunning scenery from this free viewpoint. Nearby, Bali Asli Restaurant provides a perfect place to relax while taking in the view.
It is actually really hard to get a clear view of the Mount Agung without the fog, grey clouds, bright blue in a sunny sunrise time. I have to go there twice and still be unlucky 😁 But it's really breathtaking even when the weather is a bit gloomy in the morning, plus you can sit and relax on the hut while enjoying the view. There's no entrance fee, but you can donate as you like to the locals 😊

Stunning view of the Mt Agung, with long green grasses and rice terraces as foreground. Lucky for sunrise as there was practically no clouds, the colours were there as well as the morning mist. Nestled on the picturesque Gumang Hill, Gumang Temple is a significant kahyangan jagat temple that dates back to the ancient Balinese era, specifically around Saka 11. This historical site offers visitors not only a glimpse into Bali's rich cultural heritage but also breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills. The journey to reach this stunning temple involves a rewarding hike from Candidasa, where adventurers can enjoy diverse landscapes and some climbing challenges along the way.
We thought its just a small temple with the gates and such what you can see for the first glance. We couldn’t have made a bigger mistake though. This is an advanced hike to go to the top. Its worth the struggle and its a beautiful experience to see the sea from the top and the monkeys in their natural habitat too. Make sure you bring water because its tough and there is no water up there. It was almost empty when we visited, a very chill temple.
Kitti B — Google review
We set off at 6:45am to avoid the heat. it took us about 45 minutes to climb to the top. I am not very fit so it was quite strenuous for me. We brought our own sarong as we thought we would arrive before sarong rental. It was very beautiful and peaceful. We paid the admission fee as we departed which was 10,000 for admission and blessing. Would recommend if you want a quiet spot with amazing views
Briar S — Google review
Went here because a local invited me and there was an event but I forgot what it was about. It was packed, everyone dressed so nicely, they did some rituals and praying. There was a lot of food street vendors and also monkeys. The walk up to here was insane for a foreigner like me but locals could done it easily.
Amanda W — Google review
A must see around Candidasa! But BE PREPARED. It is NOT a walk in the park. A lot of reviews mention a 45min hike but that is I think for regular hikers. Ours took longer and we saw quite a few people returning earlier and not made it to the top. Also a bit of a letdown was the condition of the temple, not like so many other temples in Bali. But the views were magnificent!!
Willfred “ — Google review
Great hike and beautiful view from the temple. We were alone at the temple in the morning, just some 3 local boys which put offerings at the way up. Realy a lot of monkeys on the way, at least 50-100 🙈🐒 At the bottom you get a sarong for rent 20k and a blesing for going up the temple, realy beautiful 🙂
Luka P — Google review
This experience was cheap at only 10,000 IDR ($1 AUD) to enter. It was an amazing hike up to the top, which we were not expecting. You will need to wear a sarong, and they hire them at street level for 10,000 ($1 AUD) but I recommend taking it off for the hike as it is HOT and sweaty otherwise. Over 700 stairs to climb along with rough patches so this is not for the faint of heart. You do get to see plenty of monkeys along the way, but if you are not fit, it will be a case of "are we there yet" along the way. But, once you arrive at the top, the views are simply amazing, and it feels tranquil and satisfying. It is a great place to sit and meditate and ponder life. Be careful of the Monkeys at the top as we were almost attacked by one of the larger males!! The trip back down was much easier. 😉
Peter A — Google review
Gumang temple is absolutely breathtaking but be prepared for the hike up. It’s approximately 2.5k up a steep set of steps. We went on a hot day and we’re fairly fit, it floored us by the top! You’ll be greeted by some lovey and helpful locals who will rent you a sarong and sell you bananas for the monkeys if you like. They may well bless you and your vehicle too. It can be courteous to offer them some payment for this. The monkeys seem intimidating but they will move out your way if your confident. They don’t bite. However they do know the sound of zips and bags opening so keep things closed. We spent about 30 mins chilling with the monkeys though and after their initial excitement, they calm right down. The views from the top are staggering. And we’ll worth the hike. It’s vertically empty and a definite must if you’re in the area.
Will H — Google review
Simply wow. Very divine. Peaceful and also has an unbelievable view. The hike is like 20 mins at least but it is totally worth it. Almost no one was present except the caretaker. The tour was 200,000 rupiah per person $12 USD. It’s a small operation that processes the cacao beans that are grown on the west side of Bali. If you’re a chocolate fan, this was a really cool spot to learn about the process of making chocolate from the cacao tree pod to chocolate bar. We really enjoyed it. I gave 4 stars because I think the price of the tour was a bit high for what you received. But I am not saying it was a bad tour, we loved the tour! Just a bit expensive for the local area. Maybe 150,000 per person because at the end we wanted to buy chocolate but we had already spent 400,000. For the tour you receive a walk around of the grounds as the guide shares information that is printed on signs. You are shown the processing area. There are a few cacao trees on the grounds so you can see the chocolate tree pods. You eat one dried cacao bean in their drying room, then a roasted beans. Finally, you are given a cacao tea (which was delicious) and sample 9 chocolate bars, 3 or 4 chocolate crumbles, and 3 ice creams. Also, you must try the iced chocolate drink. The best chocolate milk I’ve ever had.
Scott V — Google review
200k per person for 10-15 minutes tour felt really overpriced. The tasting in the end was really nice tho, you could try different chocolates, chocolate tea und icecream of different tastes. It was a nice experience but 100k per person would be the right price in my opinion.
Janika M — Google review
We missed the signpost the first time, found it the second time, and drove down the little track. Very professionally run. Clean, quiet and informative; nice gardens. Staff were friendly and explained the whole process well. Tasting at the end was well done and no pressure to purchase, although we did. Didn't stay for a meal as we'd already planned our next stop. 200,000 IDR per person seemed a bit high, but it was and enjoyable experience.
Michele P — Google review
We went with a group of 8 but decided against the tour as we deemed it way too expensive for what was on offer. We decided to stay for coffee and do the chocolate tasting. Glad we did, as the coffee was amazing! Served also in beautiful cups, very stylish. The chocolate tasting was good, we tried 5 small pieces of different flavors. I would suggest next time to offer a glass of water with the tasting so you don’t mix flavors and to allow for more time in between the different flavors. We ended up buying chocolate bars of the flavors that we liked plus some of their homemade chocolate chip cookies. Ringing up the till took quite a bit of time which wasn’t great but it did give us time to use the facilities (clean and spacious) and walk around a bit (to Jasri Beach) to snap some great photos. It was a bit of a drive to get there, but for that coffee alone it was totally worth it. Veru good chocolate.

24Pura Bukit Sangkan Gunung

Hindu temple
Nestled atop a hill, Pura Bukit Sangkan Gunung is a hidden gem that offers an enchanting escape for those willing to embark on a short hike. Just a 10-minute trek leads you to this serene temple, where breathtaking vistas of the Sidemen Valley and majestic Mount Agung await. Although it may feel somewhat abandoned—with rusty padlocks and playful monkeys roaming about—the tranquility of the surroundings makes it worthwhile.
Must see small local quiet temple - we were the only tourists there! Breathtaking views of Sidemen and beautiful temple and architecture. 10min climb up steep steps to get there but worth it! 20000 rupiah entry fee + must wear sarong.
Kathy S — Google review
Steep initial climb upto a flat concrete pad and then the 200+ very steep steps (with varying step heights!) upto the temple, which was sadly locked and looking run down and neglected... But great views and no entry fee, no compulsory sarong wearing ( although we carried some just in case) and no machete wielding nutter as mentioned by some. Look out for the cautiously curious monkeys.
Karl B — Google review
It’s probably not worth to come here from far only to see this temple. However, if you are staying in Sidemen (and I’d recommend Villa Umah Dewi Sri) it’s a nice walk to here and the temple has some great views over Sidemen Valley towards Mount Agung and over dense jungle towards the sea.
Dani S — Google review
Nice place hidden on top of a mount. I would recommend you the walk along the rice paddy from sidemen (a bit more than 1 hour and pretty steepy). The temple was closed and from what I understood it is open on January for ceremonies. I met the grumpy old man asking for money on my way back and just kept walking.
Nathan — Google review
No perv kid when we visited....great spot, they were preparing the temple for celebrations and we had a coffee with the crew
Stefano C — Google review
Very slippery climb up the steps to arrive at a poorly maintained temple with nothing to see (the side gates allowing access to the best views were closed and locked when we got there). The caretaker will charge you 20.000 Rp for the privilege of entering. Not worth it; there are prettier temples in the area you can visit for free and without the sketchy climb to the summit.
Owen J — Google review
Not worth it! The walk to there is nice, but its abandoned. So very slippery. When we were at the top there were 2 sketchy people who asked for money to the totally abandoned temple. Also pushed to wear a sarong. He kept asking money so we left. Didnt feel good.
Marloes W — Google review
A really nice walk (10 mins up) and it had a beautiful view. However, it seemed to be rather abandoned. There was no one there, so no enterance fee. It didn't look like anyone had been there for a long time, there were rusty padlocks on all the gates, and monkeys had completely taken over. I had no unfortunate run ins as the other reviews mentioned. I would be careful with the monkeys though.

(Translated by Google) Pure Basukian Puseh Jagat. At the foot of the Penataran Agung Temple Besakih, namely on the right if we are going up the stairs of the Penataran Agung Temple, there is a temple whose main shrine is a meru overlap pitu (seventh level). This temple is called Pura Basukihan at the place where according to the estimates of the sulinggih, Danghyang Markandeya planted the Pancadatu Pedagingan (five types of metal with their religious accessories). Pura Basukihan, Pura Penataran Agung and Pura Dalem Puri are the parent of the Kahyangan Tiga in the villages namely Pura Puseh, Pura Desa and Pura Dalem. From the completeness of the temples contained in each temple, as well as religious literature relating to the procedures for building a temple, it appears that the Basukihan temple is the Puseh Jagat temple, the Penataran Agung temple functions as the Jagat Village temple and the Pura Dalem Puri as the Dalem Jagat temple. Thus Basukihan Temple, Penataran Agung Temple and Dalem Puri Temple are the center and all Puseh temples, Village temples and Dalem temples are located anywhere, so that the Besakih temple as a whole is the Penyungsung Jagat temple. The person held in this temple is Hyang Naga Basuki. Piodalan Day falls on Buda Wage Kelawu Day or Buddha Cemeng Kelawu. Mpu Markandeya's journey Long story short, from Mount Raung in East Java, he and the local residents migrated through the forest to the island of Bali. This first expedition failed miserably. Many of his followers died due to illness or because of forest animals (tigers, snakes, etc.). He and the rest of his followers then returned to Mount Raung. Through penance he again received a revelation, so that before entering the forest, hold a "panca dathu" ceremony at the ancient hermitage and worship complex on Mount Agung. And if any of his followers are sick, they should be healed in a holy campuhan. The second expedition was then carried out and adapted to the revelations he received, therefore this expedition was successful. The place where he held the "panca dathu" ceremony is now Pura Basukian and the ancient hermitage and worship complex on Mount Agung is Pura Besakih. The campuhan where he healed his sick followers was the campuhan in Ubud that I told you about at the beginning of this answer. On top of this campuhan, his followers then built the Gunung Lebah Temple. His shrine is now the Gunung Raung Temple in Taro Village (north of Ubud, west of Tampasiring). His legacy, which is still preserved today, is the BANJAR system and the SUBAK irrigation system. Maharsi Markandeya played a very big role in the development of Hinduism in Bali. (Original) Pure Basukian Puseh Jagat.

White Sand Beach in Padang Bai may not have the whitest sand, but it offers a clean and pleasant environment for a leisurely stroll along the shore, especially after witnessing a stunning sunrise. The area also provides convenient facilities for visitors to enjoy.
(Translated by Google) If you are in Padangbai and want to take a day off at the beach, this is fine. The salary was clean, a minimum of mess in the water. A 100k taxi ride would probably be cheaper. Entry 2-3k, don't joke. Lounger 25k. (Original) Pokud jste v Padangbai a chcete si udelat den volna na plazi, tak tady je to fajn. Plat byla cista, minimum bordelu ve vode.
