Art Museums
Casa Botines is a striking modernist building in Leon, Spain, designed by the legendary architect Antoni Gaudi. Constructed between 1891 and 1892, it was originally intended as a residential and commercial space. The edifice showcases Gaudi's unique style, blending neo-Gothic influences with his signature modernist touch. Today, Casa Botines serves as a museum displaying Spanish paintings and houses the FUNDOS art collection spanning from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries.
Casa Botines is one of Gaudi’s modernist masterpieces that happens to be outside of his native Catalunya. Originally build in 1892 for apartments and commercial space (on the ground and lower ground floors), Casa Botines is now a museum that houses artifacts from its heyday and also works of art. While it is a bit subdued compared to some of the genius architect Gaudi’s other works, the museum and the tour are well worth it. Highly recommend especially for those who appreciate modernist architect and Gaudi in particular.

If you’re a Gaudí lover, don’t miss Casa Botines in León! I visited it today and was so pleased. The audio guide unveils so many fascinating details about the house, Gaudí’s life, and the hidden symbolism woven into the building’s design. The beautifully reconstructed rooms offer a glimpse into how the spaces would have looked in Gaudí’s time. A section allows to delve into Gaudí’s creative mind, his deep connection to nature, geometry, and meaning, making the experience even more special. On the third floor, a rich art collection awaits, with highlights being Dalí’s Divine Comedy illustrations and Goya’s Caprichos. An inspiring and beautifully curated visit, highly recommended to anyone intrigued by Gaudí’s world beyond Barcelona!
Tanio C — Google review
Lovely Gaudi building. The building process documented on interesting display boards in Spanish and English. The highlight for us was the Goya etchings, the Los Caprichos, on the 3rd floor. A look into the mind of a genius artist.
Linda B — Google review
One of only three Gaudi buildings outside of Barcelona, Casa Botines is perhaps Gaudi's most conservative structure. That said it is still wild in its irregular beauty.
Nirav D — Google review
The building is very nice, but the museum part is very plain. Maybe it is because I am a foreigner, but I couldn't watch and analyze too long some modern arts and old house parts, just like the bathroom. There are 3 levels, and there are rooms where just posters about the architecture and methods. I don't regret this 9 euro, but I thought it would be something amazing (according to the lot of good reviews).

Great modernist building in Leon 🔝 Casa Botines is one of the three projects outside Barcelona by Antoni Gaudi. When in Leon don’t miss it ! Highly recommended ! Camino de Santiago ( 21 apr - day 18 ) Visited April 2025

Casa Botines is a must-visit landmark in León, especially for those interested in architecture, history, or the works of Antoni Gaudí. One of only a few Gaudí buildings located outside of Catalonia, Casa Botines stands out with its neo-Gothic façade, pointed towers, and striking stonework—resembling more a medieval castle than a city building. The museum inside offers a well-curated experience that combines art, architecture, and history. Visitors can learn about Gaudí’s vision, the building’s origins as a textile warehouse and bank, and its later restoration. The exhibition includes original sketches, furniture, and informative displays in both Spanish and English, making it accessible to international visitors. There are also temporary exhibitions and a small but interesting art collection on the upper floors. A highlight is the chance to see some of the original architectural elements up close, as well as the preserved office spaces that transport you back in time. The building is also beautifully lit in the evening and worth viewing from the outside, even after hours. Casa Botines isn’t just for architecture enthusiasts—it’s a key piece of León’s cultural heritage and a great stop for anyone wanting to appreciate Gaudí’s lesser-known but equally impressive work.
Wilder F — Google review
Stunning building by Gaudi, it’s not as decorated as those building in Barcelona, with those details display in English as well, help us to be more enjoyable to know about stories behind this place!

The Basílica de San Isidoro is a captivating Romanesque and Gothic-style church and museum situated on the site of an ancient Roman temple dedicated to Mercury. It is dedicated to Saint Isidore of Seville, a former archbishop whose remains are enshrined within. The basilica is renowned for its collection of sacred relics, medieval treasures, and ancient books.
Absolutely stunning cathedral with an interesting history. It's not expensive, but when you scan the QR code, you can listen to its history from your phone as you walk around it, which is an excellent idea! You can not fail to miss the basilica as it is situated in the middle of Leon, surrounded by a plaza with cafes and shops. The basilica was wonderfully cool inside, which is welcome in 35°C heat.

Visited the outside of the Basilicia de San Isidoro, which was illuminated at night. What a site! When time permits, will return to visit the inside.
Nanita — Google review
Disappointed because you aren't allowed to take any pictures inside for some reason. Not a church really, it's more of a museum with some interesting items, but few stand out. The description of what the called the Holy Grail has been changed to the cup of Dona Urraca The best part was the mausoleum of the Kings of León
Anonguiri — Google review
We booked the 5:00pm English tour (about 45 min) through the monastery & museum. The frescoes are stunning and the museum small but with beautiful exhibits. Incredible library and song books. Our guide was easy to understand and gave us great information on the contents of the museum. Not one second of time wasted. So glad we booked the tour, it was well worth the small fee. What would make this a 5* experience for sure is if we could have taken photos. The frescoes and artifacts are stunning but hard to hold in our memories without photos. Photos are allowed in the cloister only.

Am starting to feel Spanish after many Spanish masses and benedictions. Beautiful church, with kind priests. We were able to receive a pilgrim's blessing and some song after mass had ended. Thank you!

So gorgeous and lovely. Really enjoyed it there was a pamphlet to follow along in English
Camille M — Google review
Beautiful, more than 1000 years old church in unbelievably good condition. It has seat-heating as well, so you can enjoy it comfortably even during the chilly Leon winters.

Although it has to play second fiddle to the Cathedral it is a beautiful church in it's own right. Situated in an exquisite square on the Camino route out of Leon it is well worth a visit.

Palacio De Los Guzmanes is a must-see attraction in Leon, Spain. This grand Renaissance building, constructed in the 16th century for the influential Guzman family, now serves as the seat of the provincial government. After being purchased and restored by the government in 1882, it has become a symbol of pride for the city. The palace stands adjacent to Casa Botines and showcases stunning architecture that attracts visitors to take photos or explore its interior.
Super pretty. Couldn’t do the tour cause of vacations? But the guard let us in to see the patio. Very very pretty.
Monica P — Google review
Free tours are provided in the morning (short) and afternoon (longer), both in Spanish only. You need to put your name down on a piece of paper at 10am in the moring if you want to join the free tour. I don't really understand Spanish but it was nice to be able to walk around inside this former palace.
Un V — Google review
Why pretend not to speak English when your job is to represent your city to visitors? I just don't get that mentality. Upon arrival at the Palacio de los Guzmanes we were directed to a room where a woman was organising tours. I addressed the woman in Spanish and asked if she spoke English. She replied in Spanish 'the visit is in Spanish only'. I have never studied Spanish and do not claim to speak the language but I speak Italian and French and thanks to that could grasp what she was saying. I nodded and said that it was ok, we would join the tour anyway. She noted down our names and confirmed the time and place where the tour began, still in Spanish. When the tour began, I noted that she spoke in fluent English, but really good English, to a Dutch couple. Why do that, why make out you don't speak a language when you do? Surely the aim is to showcase your city and your country to visitors? Surely the fact that you speak fluent English is an asset? With a dozen or so visitors, the tour began. There were five English speakers (the Dutch couple, my wife, my son and I) and a family who originated from Southern China (my wife is Chinese and noted that they spoke Chinese), plus four Spanish people. OK, we are in Spain and the tour is in Spanish, but with half of the group speaking no Spanish, and non Spanish speakers making up more than half of the group, why not make a bit of an effort? Perhaps a short summary in English would have been enough to satisfy everyone? The result was that the Dutch couple left bored halfway through the tour, my son and I double guessed via French and Italian translating to my wife, the Chinese family concentrated on taking photos, and two Spanish couples chatted with the guide. Great result for the city of Leon.
M O — Google review
When I visited they said you can’t tour by yourself. I can only understand a bit of Spanish and apparently according to reviews, the tour groups are only in Spanish. It’s much more efficient if you can view it by yourself without being locked in a tour group that you can’t even understand. Furthermore, the fact that a tour group exists means León recognizes this is a tourist spot; either give the non-Spanish speakers freedom to explore the place (>15 minutes) or give them an English tour.
Aisha R — Google review
Tour only in Spanish and the lady who gave the tour seemed to have some English but we were left sittin and standing in the courtyard and the government chamber like dummies. Pity we wasted our time. I googled the basics about the place while sitting there. Bored and frustrated.
Colette B — Google review
Very nice place for a quick visit The guided tour is very cheap and totally worth it, they show you the main room upstairs which is very beautiful The best thing about this tour is the lovely lady who was giving the tour when we went, she gave a lot of very cool facts and told us many things about the place, Leon, and in general anything related that you might ask her and more. Highly recommended guided visit tour
Elena — Google review
Guided tour only in Spanish... I wish this was made clear before we bought tickets at the machine which gave information in several different languages! 5 minutes would have been enough looking around but we were locked in for an hour!

Catholic cathedral
León Cathedral, a grand Gothic structure dating back to the 1400s, stands as the spiritual heart of León. Its soaring towers, flying buttresses, and stunning interior make it a premier Gothic masterpiece in Spain. The cathedral's facade boasts a radiant rose window, richly sculpted doorways, and two imposing towers. Inside, visitors can admire an extraordinary collection of stained-glass windows.
Stunning. An incredible cathedral, very easy to just get lost in the beauty and grandeur of it all when touring the interior. You can get that same sense of awe and wonder on the outside as well, but inside is truly majestic. Do not miss this when you are anywhere near Leon.
Jaded G — Google review
The Leon Cathedral is a tremendous landmark that helps take Camino de Santiago pilgrims back in time to imagine what the area would have been like 800 years ago when this cathedral was built. The area around the cathedral is spacious and offers a sense of relaxation while having coffee or a meal .
Chuck C — Google review
The cathedral is so beautiful The visit is nice and it is worth the price The audio guide is clearly not good enough. It is only 5 very long recording. Would be good to inspire from Oviedo
GR8 4 — Google review
Fabulous church inside and out. Stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings are amazing. Tickets are not cheap but do not mind paying as it goes to the upkeep of this amazing cathedral. Loved that we take photos of the inside to keep our memories fresh of the glorious interior. No restrooms available.
Linda B — Google review
Wow, wow, wow. The stained glass and scale is striking. I'm not sure we could build this now. There is no reduced entrance for pilgrims, which is unusual, but the visit worth the €7. The audio-tour was cool as well. Just the right amount of detail and explanation of points of interest for my sore feet.

Breathtakingly beautiful! Around £5 to get in, which I think is a steal!!! There is a little cafe on the corner to the right which has the loveliest staff! Go there…. Not the ones opposite the church itself!

Convento de San Marcos is a grand Gothic-style church built in the 16th century, featuring an elaborate Plateresque facade. Located in Leon, a city rich in cultural attractions and historic landmarks such as the Cathedral, Roman Walls, and Basilica of San Isidoro. As a stop on the Pilgrim's Road to Santiago de Compostela, Leon offers a blend of history and modern amenities.
This church and convent building has a very impressive facade. The convent has been converted into a 5 star hotel by Parador. Only hotel customers can enter that side of the building that was the convent. However, the church on the right hand side of the building can be visited by public and it also houses a collection of artwork that is on display. The cloister is open to public also. This is also a must visit place while you are in Leon.

Worth the tour We enjoyed a free entrance on Saturday to both the Iglesia the museum but also to cloister

Amazing! I found it as beautiful if not even more impressive than León Cathedral. Go to the rooms beyond the church main room. It is spectacular. Friendly staff, great atmosphere.
Wilder F — Google review
Lovely place to visit. I initially thought that was an entrance fee for it but it is free. Don’t miss the cloister, very beautiful! Definitely worth the visit. Make sure you check hours as they close on the afternoons.
Virginia L — Google review
Large open plaza with fountains set in the ground. A lovely place to sit near the river surrounded by some very old and historic building. Entrance fee charged to go in the museum (of Leon)
Gill C — Google review
It's a part of the museum of León and the entrance is free. Convent was built in XVI century. Museum's part has a lot of objects of middle age and baroque. And another part is a hotel now.
Olga S — Google review
The renovation of the building is more than you can expect. It includes a Museo de León exhibition in religious topics. The Iglesia is on the Way of Santiago (El Camino), so you can wonder the building in any time. Perfect place with the amazing and great square to have a rest and get dozens of experiences about León and its past and present.

Bar
La Bicha is a small bar located in the humid neighborhood of Leon, known for serving a special and spicy blood sausage called morcilla. The owner takes pride in offering one of the spiciest morcillas in town. Despite its size, La Bicha is incredibly popular with locals, often packed wall-to-wall with patrons enjoying vermouth and local wine. While some may mention the owner's reputation for being unpleasant, many visitors have found him to be quite friendly during their visit.
Delicious morcilla, great wine and vermouth, fun atmosphere. Pretty sure the negative reviews are from Karens who weren’t allowed to Karen. If you’re respectful, you’ll be fine. Cash only. Someone wrote how it’s so quiet in here, suggesting it’s because ppl are afraid of the owner. No. He just restricts the flow of ppl into the small inside area, which means it’s not packed, no one has to yell to hear themselves talk AND you can hear the music playing inside. How novel!
Halina M — Google review
What a horror of place. The Morcilla is good but not the best and definitely not worth to take the insults and bad character of the owner and cook. The guy insults people, accused and agreed several groups during the 20min we were here. From “I’m not serving you” to calling bad names to some girls there. Really AVOID this place!
Jorge V — Google review
Rude. We went to try what is supposed to be he best morcilla but the cook was so rude we didn’t stay. I have never been treated so badly in one instant. Avoid this place
Adriana F — Google review
if you want to try the best morcilla in Leon, you need to know your place, make the queue, no special requests, only local wine, pay cash and enjoy!! Worth it!!
Jeff A — Google review
I am basing my 5 star review only based on the Morcilla de Leon. It was one of the best ones I tried in Leon as well as being the spiciest version which I really enjoyed. The owner was there alone and was friendly but I could see service being an issue although it was not my experience. The Morcilla is worth any other issue in my opinion.
Darrin — Google review
This place is nice to go only for some tapas. The morcilla is a must to try! I liked it a lot that I even bought some take away. Quite affordable and giving a bar/cantina vibe. Great place to meet for a tapa and a picudo wine before dinner.

Wonderful value for only 1 euro. Solid translations into English give the visitor a good introduction to local Leonese history from prehistory to the 20th century. Expect to see compact yet insightful exhibitions on ancient crafts and trade, ancient currencies and tombstones, medieval and early modern religious art, artifacts of daily life from all periods concerned, etc. Totally worth at least an hour or two.

This is an excellent FREE museum. It is well curated and follows the history of the area around Leon from prehistory to modern times. Make sure to go up and down the correct stairs to follow the history in order. The displays were very nice with many surprising artifacts. Description boards in Spanish and English. There are lockers at the entrance for bags. Kind people at reception.

Nice museum, Leon was an important roman town, there are many objects of daily life, war weapons.Another part of the museum is dedicated to paintings. It is worth to visit.

This is a medium sized museum spread over three floors. There are some English descriptions provided. When I visited there a temporary exhibit of coins was on display. There is a good collection of Roman tomb stones on display in the basement, which I found quite interseting. Worth a visit.

Employees are very rude. At 1:30pm they begin following you around as if you are a criminal. Actually they want you out by 1:45 so they can close at 2pm. They turn off all the lights even if you are in an exhibit making it very unsafe and dangerous for the individual left in that room. Exhibits are incredible but workers should be ashamed of themselves. Their time is clearly more important than the safety of their patrons or the masterpieces they work to show the world.

Located on the rooftop of Hotel Barcelo Leon Conde Luna, niMÚ Azotea offers stunning panoramic views of the old town and surrounding city. The restaurant is a perfect spot for sharing a variety of dishes with friends, including niguiri, pasta, rice dishes, gilda skewers, cod, and aged beef sirloin. The terrace opens at 2pm and stays open until 0.30am but tends to get crowded quickly so booking early is recommended.
Tasty dinner with Spanish and not so spanish options, good wine and dessert. Our table was offering a great view over Leon at night starring the illuminated Cathedral. Attentive staff giving recommendations when asked and making sure amounts ordered seemed right.
Maja N — Google review
Disappointing experience. Views are great and our starter was very nice but the veal main was chewy and overcooked. Couldn’t eat half of it and although the manager apologised I was still charged the full amount. The fish was nice although contained some bones.
Simon F — Google review
First of all, I would like to point out the terrible, unacceptable length of the waiter's (or hostess's, don’t know exactly what he was doing constantly near waiters, it seems was helping them) nails, Pablo's. It's horrible and shameful if you allow staff with such nails to serve people. The second thing I would like to point out is the absolutely poor level of the cuisine. We took tuna tartare and, apart from the spiciness, we didn't feel anything at all. It shouldn't be like that. We also took the tongue and it was old, not at all fresh. They barely grated the cheese. Then we wanted to order two cocktails. As it turned out, it was impossible to order either a negroni or a caipirinha, or most of what's on the menu. With all this, the prices look pretentious. The only good thing about this place is the view of the city.
Lilu — Google review
Very tasty olives and cheese board. The service helped us find out where to buy the good olives, but we didn’t find them unfortunately. A very good spontaneous experience.
Temporaryforevers — Google review
Excellent food, however, the bill (la cuenta) was totally incorrect. We were charged twice for at least half our meals. When we queried the bill, the waitress seemed angry and rude, and also didn't even ask what was wrong, which to me seems that they knowingly gave us an incorrect bill, which is very dishonest. This left a very bad taste for us, despite the amazing food. I would recommend this place for sure, but be sure to check the cost at the end.

Price - 32E for 8 croquetes on a plate and 8 slices of manchego on a plate with two tiny bits of bread. I’ve paid 8E total in other places for this. Drinks also expensive. The waiter seemed annoyed from start to finish.

Horrible service. Mechanical and rude service. We came for some food and drinks. We asked if they had a couple of Tapas they have on the menu and the barman said NO, only Olives, Chips and Salmorejo. After some time I see other people getting the Garlic soup and other things. So I really didn't get this type of discrimination on what you can order. Leon is full of Tapas bars... don't waste your time here and go somewhere else.

My favorite thing about this place is the atmosphere. It’s nostalgic in that the decorations, bar, and staff uniforms seem to come out of a time from Spain’s past. They serve the best rice tapa in town. I come here every time I’m in Leon. It’s also where many locals go, which means it’s good!

Judith O — Google review
The waiter obviously objected to our lack of Spanish and was very unhelpful. Came out with the other parties meals and three plates treating it like tapas. My meal didn’t come until I had left. Worst dining experience in Spain so far. I have been here over a month. Don’t stop here. We saw others leave and should have. Saw that I could add to venting my spleen about this restaurant. My wife and friend stayed as their food had come out but my meal was about 30 minutes after theirs. The waiter continued to be awe full to them and was rude and aggressive to them even more so after I had left. He tried to Bully them. The rudeness and aggressiveness continued to the till when they paid. The man at the till continued the rude aggressive behaviour. We really wish we had left before we had ordered like a table next to us did who had the same waiter. Don’t go to this restaurant. There are several in the plaza and I am sure they won’t be as bad as this one. Appalling.

Bar La Ribera, located on Calle de Fernando G. Regueral, 8, is a popular spot known for its handmade potato dishes. It's a favorite among locals and tends to be bustling on weekends but quieter during the week. If you're a fan of potatoes, this place comes highly recommended by visitors who have frequented it multiple times to ensure their assessment is accurate.
Outstanding traditional place! 📝 ✔ Authentic food and MARVELOUS tapas! ✔ Best fries I had in my whole life. ✔ Croquettes were outstanding. ✔ Friendly service. ~ Bit far from the Barrio Húmedo but worth! ✖ Bit messy and dirty, with slot machines and noisy TV. If you're looking for something authentic where locals frequently socialize just go there, you won't regret.

Nice food, friendly service, frequented by locals. Complementry tapas with drinks and a meal menu serving full or half size plates. I can recommend the mushrooms.
John W — Google review
Great busy, divey diner in León. Probably the farthest north bar in León’s main bar areas. Unlike the rest of León this place is not really for tapas - though housemade fried potatoes with mayo and optional paprika are served free with drinks. It is expected that you order a racion. Plenty of good stuff to chose from. Mussels in paprika and tomato sauce is always a hit, everything else looked good too especially the pig ear and asadura (pig organs). 1 full size racion is more than enough for 2 ppl to split with bread, maybe get a half racion for 2 people if you’re planning on having other tapas in Leon too Service is gruff but friendly, classic old man bar vibes. English probably not spoken. Packed with locals, gets full at peak hours. Fun, boisterous, loud, familial atmosphere.

Disclaimer: I love patatas in general, so my review can seem a bit biased for those who don’t love them, but those who do, it’s nr 1 place to go! I visited this place 6-7 times before I wrote this review, to be sure that It’s not my first impression which is typically better than the actual deal. Additionally I visited around 4-5 other bars where they also offer patatas, just to have a comparison point. So in conclusion this is for sure the best place to go for a glass of beer/wine + some patatas. Patatas are homemade and really good, the quantity is good also. But it’s not about the patatas only, it’s the combination of good atmosphere, good patatas and beer and authentic people working there. The main barman there (dark haired man) is one of coolest people I have met in food industry, he is genuine, authentic and really welcoming, as is all the other staff. You really do feel that this is your “home bar” (a term that I did not understand before) where you are welcomed when you enter. Bravo for excellent service and great experience! Anyway if you are in Leon and want to have a beer with tapas (I suggest patatas) in authentic chill environment then try not to miss this place.

Guests can savor refreshing vermut con hielo alongside delectable fish roe tapas that tantalize the taste buds. Léon is one of the best places in Spain to drink vermouth. There are a few bars where you can find a multitude of Spanish vermouth. In this particular vermutería, they also have 3 versions of their house vermouth made with a Cinzano base - I really liked the sweet red. The Leon cheese platter had some very delicious local cheese. Our server was very friendly and on point with his recommendations. I did not taste it but everyone else at our table raved about the pork.

Restaurante Cocinandos is a stylish dining spot with a hacienda-inspired setting and a patio. Located in the Casa del Peregrino of the former convent of San Marcos, this restaurant offers market-driven tasting menus with wine pairings. The menu, called Los Siete Caminos, changes weekly based on available produce at the market.
I was here in June while I was walking the Camino. It was a rest day and I was exploring the amazing city. Dressed in dirty clothes and with my huge backpack, the chef and the waitress still showed great hospitality and amazing service. I was greeted me at the door and I believe it was the head chef explained the idea behind their restaurant and the tasting menu, which is taking various ingredients throughout Spain, the freshest at the time and place them on the menu. Each dish is an art piece, full of surprises and flavour. The wine pairing is also a must! Amazing wines to pair with each course, which enhances and elevates the taste. Will definitely be back again in the future!

I was welcomed here Easter Sunday, and had the Menú del Día. First course I had chorizo croquetas, which were served hot with good cheese flavor and a crispy, chewy crust. For pizza I had the SICILIANA - Tomate, mozzarella, bacón, cebolla, gambas, chiles, nata, ajo y albahaca. This is a little spicy, with good flavors of the onion and shrimp. The crust was light and crispy. I added a full ration of flan for dessert, and it was very good, only surpassed by one in my experience. I recommend.

Great place with many beer selection and good tapas to complement. Love their scallops and the steak is amazing! Good atmosphere in the outside patio!

Patio dining under cover and foliage. Hard seats but good atmosphere in a great city. Recommend garlic prawns and certainly the scallops. Budget a starter and two mains with bread and a bottle wine at around €35

🙋‍♂️The service was great, They recommended the "Solomillo patio" and it really tasted like a speciality. 🏠The place is pretty and you really don't feel cold but neither warm, if it's windy sometimes it can be cold. 🍗The food was really good, I just needed to include some bread because I ordered it after and they just give me from some of days ago..... 💰Talking about the price, the quality and taste of the food was great and the space is great and in the center of the city so is not expensive. 🌟7/10
Elzorro01 G — Google review
Horrible service. As soon as I stood up to go to the toilet, they cleared the table, and put a reserved sign on the table. They even moved my bag from the table to behind the bar. I wasnt offered the desert that's part of the offer. Just because I don't speak Spanish they did not treat me like a normal customer. Won't be going again.

The elegant room with gold accents sets the stage for a delightful dining experience. The menu boasts over 40 different dishes, featuring specialties such as cod risotto with crunchy vegetables, lamb ribs, and scrambled egg with cod.

An amazing restaurant. Delicious food. Friendly service. Excellent wine list. Great desserts. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Very traditional Leonese. Very much a locals place, which is great given some of the high concentration of tourists at other establishments. Reservations are strongly recommended to the point of being a necessity.

Impeccable service, fabulous food, friendly and relaxed ambience. Felt a little daunted with my poor Spanish, which has led to some difficult experiences at other restaurants but we were put right at ease here and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I'd happily revisit Leon just to eat here again.

Very good service from the young women working the bar today in the evening. The tall guy training her could learn how to smile or be more welcoming when a patron arrives, instead of keeping a dumb look on his face. Great prices and nice beers & tapas. Would definitely recommend!

Great food and atmosphere where there is friendly service to go along with the great beer too. I found this place to be just off the main strip but close to where people still pass through so you can sit and enjoy the outside when nice. Fine dining restaurant
Restaurante Pablo is a long-standing, high-end dining spot that has been captivating diners for over 40 years. Originally opened by Yolanda Rojo's parents in 1975, the restaurant gained popularity with dishes like trucha soup and frog legs. After a generational shift, the current owners, Yolanda and Juanjo Losada, have continued the tradition of serving 'naturally Leonese' cuisine using local seasonal ingredients.
It's a pretty nice place with very kind, responsive, and hospitable people in service. I haven’t noticed any snobbery or arrogance. Past-year signs from Michelin stand right on the table in the middle of the kitchen, I believe as a reminder for a team of the needed level of taste and quality. I really like all of the vessels and utensils here. Glassware is so thin and amazing. Except for Margarita in brass flower, the taste of brass is definitely distinctive, and I guess it's not what you want to feel in your mouth. The taste of margarita espuma itself is great, though. The pollen in this cocktail is a nice touch. And second minus for me is “bollo minero” which serves with highly expensive caviar on the top. Due to the shape of this bun and approach of service, it just fell on the side, and the caviar turned out on a lump of coal. I believe a restaurant like that could serve it again in this scenario, but in my case, they didn't. My top of the night is “Bonito”, which is some sort of fish with nice big pieces of flesh with an amazing sauce. And “pato azulon” which is ideal cooked duck rose, and terrine of wild birds. Gelato from sheep’s milk also is just blowminding. The wine pairing is nice, as I understood there are only drinks from the Leon region, which is kinda cool. My top here is Rose. The sommelier has tried to explain to me all of the nuances despite that my Spanish understanding is pretty primitive. English for this moment is not used here. Only the chef served me one of the dishes and presented to me it in English. For which special thanks. I have spent time here with great pleasure and interest. Hope to return here in 10 years or so and try a new menu. Thanks!

The service were fantastic and in good location but the squid I had was a bit dry by itself as it has no accompanied with other side dish. Some menu were only good for two persons. Overall it was OK.

We ordered one portion to share, bread and 2 Beers and we were going to order desert after. The first waiter obviously didn’t like that and put pressure to order more. We accidentally spilled half a beer, partly on the bread, and another waiter (without asking us) took away the bread and the beer, telling us, he would bring us a new one. In the end they made us pay twice for the beer and the bread which they had taken away without asking although it was still half full. I’m the end 30 euros for one very simple portion, 2 beers and a cake to share.
Magdalena H — Google review
Brought us a beer we didn't order and charged us for it. Brought us bread we didn't order and charged us €3 for it. Final result: €69 for an utterly mediocre meal.
Ben R — Google review
The steak I ordered was so undercooked that it was like it was still alive and living in the fields. The meat was not seasoned at all and it is super obvious that the chef was lazy. Super sad because the server was really helpful and nice. However, 20 euros for that dish when I might as well go to McDonalds and get food that unironically is 200 times better and more flavorful. Sad.

Very slow service for simple food when it is not busy. Had the pimientos con patatas, Leon Morcilla and croquetas. It was all home made but took too long to come >45 minutes. The bread I was given was stale.

With lots of restaurants to choose from you are never sure you will make the right choice. We definitely did! Delicious "raciones" (croquettes, padron peppers, scrambled eggs, empanadas) and the best calamari I have ever eaten. All brought out with friendliness and enthusiasm. And of course, you get to see the people of Leon coming and going through the plaza in this beautiful city.

Great sardines and chicken wings! Good chicken wings in Europe always surprise me but they were worth it. The calamari was from a big squid, my least preferred type so I took off a star for that. Maybe it’s out of season so they little ones are hard to come by.

-Small museum, super confusing and unclear floor plan. No signs or any instructions which way should I go. - Nothing in English, all texts are in Spanish. - Some artifacts are really good, rest is avarage for such a museum. - Apparently no photo, which is not unacceptable in 2025 for a permanent collection. There is a security camera everywhere, but everyone did make photos so seemed like an outdated rule.

Distributed over several floors and many rooms, I think that in some cases the organization by periods or styles could be improved, since sometimes you are puzzled by the placement of some pieces among others with which they have no relationship. It is currently not justifiable to interrupt the visit and go out to find a cafeteria outside. Anyway, essential visit. (Original) Extraordinario contenido con arte de todas las épocas. Pedro G — Google review
(Translated by Google) Today, it constitutes a unique collection of its kind, housing pieces from all periods of art history, from prehistory to the 20th century, all spread across seventeen rooms, in the vicinity of the cathedral cloister. It is entered through a beautiful walnut door, which, according to Professor Merino Rubio, was made for the library by Juan de Quirós before 1513. Its tympanum depicts the fully Flemish scene of the Annunciation, set against a space with Gothic arches. In the first room, we see the Plateresque staircase by Juan de Badajoz the Younger, which facilitated access to the chapter house. It is comparable to the one built by Diego de Covarrubias in the Palace of Santa Cruz in Toledo. The support of its three levels is profusely decorated with fine work of bueraneo, candelieri, medallions, and other themes from the finest Renaissance. The pretext for placing the coat of arms of the patron bishop, Pedro Manuel, on the small platform that stands out above the balustrade was sought. Adoration of the Magi, by Pedro de Campaña. Several works are displayed in this frame formed by the stairwell. These include two beautiful 14th-century Calvaries, carved in wood with traces of polychrome; the larger one, from Gusendos de los Oteros, has suffered several mutilations due to having been buried for centuries beneath the presbytery of the church, and the other, more stylized, belonged to the pre-Romanesque church of San Adrián; a 14th-century polychrome stone statue of the Virgin and Child, known as the "Old Virgin of Dado"; a transitional crucifix from Grajal de Campos from the beginning of the same century; two late Gothic panels with apostles from Tomeros, and six oil paintings from the last third of the 16th century, belonging to the lost altarpiece from Fuentes de Carbajal, with scenes from the infancy and passion of Christ. The museum houses a 13th-century ivory Christ, some sculptures by Juan de Juni and his disciples, a 16th-century missal, and several liturgical ornaments from the same period. The library houses several Visigothic manuscripts and a copy of the Lex Romana Visigothorum.

Pans & Company is a convenient stop in Leon, with easy access to transportation for further exploration. The establishment offers a dual experience with separate areas for food and coffee, providing a variety of sandwiches, salads, and sweet treats. The cozy ambiance features comfortable furniture, creating an inviting atmosphere to enjoy a casual meal. Visitors appreciate the affordable prices and the option to take away their orders.
I can't speak to the regular food (didn't try it), but the coffee and sweets were quite good. The coffee shop part is separate from the fast food counter - but the same people handle both - which can cause a bit of a delay (as it did in our case).

Needed to wait for more than 40 minutes in the queue to order just a sandwich. Only one staff working at the counter when there is a queue of 30+people lining up. In the end it took over an hour to get the food in a "fast food". I would rate 0 stars.
Chao C — Google review
This is a fantastic place to have fast food..but a bit healthier... There are lots of vegan and vegetarian options, a Starbucks like atmosphere with cooked food, coffee and desserts.
Amyann M — Google review
The sandwiches were quite good and so was the coffee, but having to wait 25 minutes for half a sandwich and even more for the fries is mad. They gave us the sandwich 20 minutes after we had ordered it and told us the fries still aren't ready.
Ash — Google review
Cheap and the sandwiches are good. Would totally come back. They also have nice furniture, couches and armchairs so you feel like you're not in a regular chain restaurant. The overall vibe was good. A nice place to hang out and have a not so fancy but great meal.

This place is good for a quick bite and we didn’t have to wait until most of the restaurants around open up for dinner about 8:30 PM. The food was good and at reasonable price. They have orders in English.

I stop by here daily for a Euro 1.50 Pepsi Max, "para aquí" which they then serve in a glass with ice. Then i drink it at a terraza table, if available, to people watch. The staff has always been friendly and payment via credit card is convenient.

Parador de León is a stunning five-star hotel that offers guests a unique experience within the historic walls of the 16th-century Convent of San Marcos. This remarkable establishment beautifully blends its rich history with modern luxury, featuring elegant rooms adorned with antiques and charming four-poster beds. Guests can enjoy exquisite dining options in an upscale restaurant and unwind at a stylish bar while sampling fine northern Spanish wines.
I was expecting to compromise on the quality of the room/facilities/food/service to stay in this magnificent historical building at a premium price, but there are no compromises here. This is the best of the best, true 5 stars and worth every penny. Impressive work by the management, the staff, the architects and the decorators.

Parador de Leon is outstanding! The building is amazing and the modern rooms are superb. It is super quiet & located in a picturesque spot overlooking the river. It’s an easy walk into the centre of Leon and the car park is huge. The terrace bar is a must! Breakfast was good but not outstanding & some of the breakfast & bar staff were a bit lacking in friendliness but the hotel amenities are top quality. Extremely comfortable bed!

Incredible building, feels like a real castle. A very special experience. The rooms are a bit dated though, and could use a renovation for the price you pay. Service is fine, but can be slow. It's beautiful for photos and to experience history, just don't expect modern luxury in the room. Good for a short visit.

By far the most impressive hotel I’ve stayed in, Parador de Leon is a Palace which has been skilfully converted into a luxurious hotel. Works of art, sculptures and historical features blend with very modern amenities giving a fascinating ambiance, the rooms are generously sized, bathrooms amazing, and I highly recommend this place.
Roger B — Google review
We booked a two night stay to celebrate the completion of our Camino. Huge mistake. We were given a room facing the Plaza and it is impossible to sleep because of the partying happening. The windows are of very poor quality. We stayed in much less expensive hotels while on the Camino with excellent noise insulation. There is no sleep tonight for us at all. It is currently 2:30 am and there is no letting up of the music and yelling into microphones. Even with the AC fan running and earplugs, the horrendous noise prevents sleep. It is extremely loud. If you are given a room overlooking the plaza, absolutely refuse it if you want any sleep at all. Request a room on the other side. Very nice room, but without sleep it becomes a very bad one and a very pricey one at that. Unfortunately review videos do not include sound or I would share the noise fest party happening in our room. Edit after next night: We were moved for the following night and had a lovely, quiet room in the back of the hotel. We understand that “city noise” happens but in a 5* hotel, the windows should be of a quality that reduces it as much as possible. That is not the case with the rooms facing the front plaza.

One of the most beautiful hotels I have been to. Overall the setting is really exceptional, the cloister is beautiful, the architecture and history! The inside of the hotel is renovated and furnished with taste I enjoyed, combination of art, medieval furniture and modern design. The hotel itself is missing 5-stars hotel and room amenities (spa, turndown service, bathrobes, minibar not included, guest experience,…) if you are looking for that. On the other hand the price is also low for a 5-stars hotel and you still get an exceptional experience :) The breakfast very similar to other Paradores, a bit of everything. The only thing I don’t like on holidays is to have to book a time slot for breakfast, but thats is a case in many Paradores too.

Good and bad It depends what you rate Building is incredible and this more than five stars Room is not at standard when it comes to air conditioning stopping every 3 hours meaning you have to wake up due to heat and restart it. Electrical control of the lights does not work. To turn off and on you have to remove the key to restart the system Guided tour is a great idea but please a decent guide. Our guide was so unpleasant and bored The palace itself is amazing The balcony on the church !!! The cloister !!! Staff at front desk was vey nice

(Translated by Google) CHURCH OF THE SAVIOR OF PALAT DEL REY. The king's palace. San Salvador de Palat del Rey, also called San Salvador del Palaz del Rey, is a Christian church considered the oldest known in the city of León, in Spain. It belonged to a monastery founded by King Ramiro II of León, built between 931-951 next to his palace and intended for his daughter Elvira Ramírez, who entered it as an abbess nun. Next to the property there was a cemetery, estimated to be the first royal pantheon in León. Next to this monastery of San Salvador de Palat del Rey (or Palaç de Rei) there was a cemetery where the Leonese kings Ramiro II, Ordoño III, Sancho I of León and Ordoño IV were buried. After the passage and devastation of Almanzor In 988, these burials were moved to the Royal Pantheon. With Almanzor's incursion into the area in 988, the complex would suffer significant devastation. Later restorations began in the church, which became a parish, although it reached the first years of the 20th century in a state of abandonment, such that it was on the verge of being destroyed. It was saved thanks to the architectural study of archaeologist Juan Crisóstomo Torbado and the historical study of Manuel Gómez-Moreno; Both demonstrated the importance of preserving a building of great value in the history of the kingdom of León and, therefore, in the history of Spain. In 2006 the last restoration and enhancement of this ancient church took place. It was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1931. The original building was of Mozarabic architecture, with a Greek cross plan, with access to the apse through a triumphal arch on columns. This building must have been designed and built on top of a Roman temple, with marble columns. Mozarabic architecture in the kingdom of León knew how to take advantage, in many cases, with subtlety, of the remains of Roman temples. The influence of the East can be observed in all its factories. An influence that perhaps did not come from southern Muslim Hispania, as many experts believe, but from Gaul, where the kingdom of the Merovingians and later the empire of Charlemagne, strongly influenced the Christian sentiment of the Leonese kingdom. (Original) IGLESIA DEL SALVADOR DE PALAT DEL REY.

The Museo de San Isidoro in Leon is a must-see attraction, often referred to as the Romanesque Sistine Chapel. It offers a fascinating insight into the history of San Isidoro, Leon, and various aspects of iconography and Christianity. The museum's architecture is impressive, and visitors can explore its extensive collection of antique books in the library, as well as the grail and catacombs.
Highly recommened to attend this at least once. The setting is beautiful, cozy, warm and romantic. The musicians are charming and delightful..it was a pleasure.
Amyann M — Google review
A disappointing experience maybe because I was expecting a church but it's more of a museum. You can visit on a guided tour in Spanish or on your own. We dislike guided tours because of the information overload. Visiting on your own could result in you missing the small room which houses what the used to claim was the Holy Grail. Photos are not allowed in the museum part, even without flash, for some reason. You can take photos outside the museum.
Alan B — Google review
Very nice museum of the monastery. We had a guided tour in English at 5:00 pm and it was well worth the time and cost. The guide moved us along with good descriptions and concise explanations. We enjoyed the frescoes and the library. The old books are incredible and well preserved. We were told no photographs and we wish we could’ve taken some to remind us of the beauty we saw.
Linda B — Google review
We had a free entry guided tour (available on Wednesdays between 16:00 and 18:00) which was great. It was in Spanish but there is lots of descriptions on the artifacts you look at. The guide is extremely knowledgeable, and it was in Spanish. The three things which really stand out are the library which contains so many antique books , the grail & the catacombs . If you go in the paid slots you can do a self guided tour . The one downside is no photos allowed, which you’d think in the day and age of social media would only help spread the word about this amazing place.

Feels very nice to be there and have a time in prayer and reflection. The main attraction of the temple is the sepulchre of Saint Isidoro, bishop of Seville of the 4th century.

The most standout thing about this restaurant is the presentation. The service with the food provides a wonderful experience. I can't say that I enjoyed every single item but that's bound to happen with adventurous foods with a plethora of plates. The price is appropriate for what you get, maybe even on the cheaper side. The Muralla medieval de León is a historic site that encompasses the old city wall of Leon, Spain. It has different sections built at various times, including a Roman fortification dating back to the 1st century and medieval walls from the 14th century. The oldest stone wall, preserved in a small section, dates back to the 1st century while a more powerful one was built in the 3rd century.

(Translated by Google) Visiting the Roman wall of León is like touching the ancient skin of the city with your fingers. What is preserved today belongs to the imposing reform of the 3rd and 4th centuries, when semicircular towers more than 8 meters in diameter and up to 12 meters high were built. These stones have survived the abandonment of the 8th century and witnessed the rebirth of León as the capital of the kingdom in the 10th century. The most fascinating thing is how the Roman vestiges coexist in harmony with the medieval section added in 1324, which embraces the expansion of the city. Walking along this wall is literally going through centuries of history.
