Vegan restaurant
The Flame Tree Cafe is a popular and bustling eatery located in the heart of Dundee, offering a variety of breakfast and lunch options such as sandwiches, sweet treats, and coffee. While not entirely vegan, the cafe has responded to customer demand by gradually increasing its selection of vegan menu items over time.
We were early for an afternoon music event at Caird Hall and found this little cafe which we chose because it was close and had excellent reviews. The menu has plenty of great choices and the prices very reasonable. It was early afternoon, the place was busy but we were able to get a table by the window. My wife declared that her smashed avocado toasty was the best she’d had anywhere and my tuna mayo sandwich was excellent. The bread tasty and very fresh. The coffee was really good too. Bear in mind it closes at 3pm. Highly recommended and we’ll be back next time we are in Dundee.

Really great coffee ☕️ however expected more of the bagel. Ordered a chicken mayo bagel 🥯 which I generally know as a hot meal however it came and the chicken mayo was ice cold which I really didn't enjoy or expect.

I took an impromptu trip to Dundee from Glasgow during the bank holiday and had a lovely day. This lovely day was made by sampling the infamous rainbow bagel! I had zero expectations, but the staff were lovely, my order was prompt and the bacon & cream cheese on the rainbow bagel was delicious :) recommend dropping in on your travels

Brilliant range for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options! Options for alternative milks for a multitude of different drinks (milkshakes, coffees etc etc) Most of the sandwiches can be done with gluten free bread and there's an entire section of the menu dedicated to vegan options. Today I stopped by with my mother and got a beetroot ginger latte with soy milk which was LOVELY ! I also got a falafel, hummus, rocket and tomato sandwich on gluten free bread, and a side of the soup of the day (pea and mint). Genuinely a super tasty sandwich and my mother enjoyed her vegan cheese toastie (gf bread). There are also multiple options for vegan/gf baking at the front counter. The waiters are very nice also!

SCOTTISH CAFE / AUSSIE ROOTS! Stopped by today for a spot of lunch, been meaning to try & review this one for while! Light, airy & fresh decor, it’s very easy on the eye on arrival. Greeted quickly & sat by the window, once decided orders taken at the counter. I had the Coronation chicken ciabatta which was without doubt the best I have tasted & no sultanas as it should be! The wife had Spicy Chorizo Ciabatta & some Hash Brown Nuggets, all to the same very high standard. Finished off with a flat white & double macchiato, again top barista skills there, they were devine! Highly recommend giving them a try 😃

Last week my grandma and I stopped here for lunch and really enjoyed our food and drinks. I had one of their popular rainbow bagels with cream cheese and salmon and a Carmel latte, grandma had a ham and cheese croissant. We really enjoyed our lunch and would definitely return in the future.

Lovely cafe, fab for kids, variety of options for veggie /vegan, for the little ones as well, coffee lovely, staff super friendly and helpful, quick service

Always visit here when in Dundee it’s a lovely little friendly cafe that caters for all vegan too. They do the most amazing rainbow bagels. We always have breakfast when visiting which is always 4 stars. Very friendly staff.

Nestled in the heart of Dundee, The Auld Tram is a charming coffee and sandwich bar housed within an authentic horse-drawn tram from the 1870s. This unique eatery not only serves as a delightful nod to history but also offers a menu filled with high-quality soups, gourmet sandwiches, and an array of beverages including specialty teas and coffees. As the sister establishment to the renowned Bridgeview Station, The Auld Tram has quickly become a favorite among both locals and visitors alike.
Exceptional! Two sandwiches (ham hock) and two drinks (coke and a coffee) for just over a tenner! Unbeatable value and extremely tasty food. The sandwiches are massive with doorstop bread and a huge amount of filling. The coffee is also very large and was done proper. All served very quickly from a quaint little old time tram. An excellent place!
Dylan M — Google review
The Auld Tram deserves every one of the stars it gets. Fantastic little tramcar cafe stand. Uncommonly delicious espresso (they actually clean the machines) and a great food selection. Very good prices.

Really delicious sandwich and a nice tray bake. The lady serving was super friendly and it was an absolute bargain.
Alistair S — Google review
Probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had. In fact, almost certainly the best sandwich I’ve ever had! I’ve passed here loads of times over the years but never thought to stop until day after hearing their sandwiches are excellent. I got a parsnip and cumin soup as well as a Cajun chicken sandwich with red onion and jalapeños. The soup was great, lovely earthy tones and quite a deep flavour. It was £2.70. The sandwich was £3.50 and absolutely jam packed. The first indication I had was the weight of the box when it was handed over. The bread was beautiful, fresh cooked with a lovely soft inside but nice crunchy/chewy crust. Almost like crusty bread. The filling which was heaped in was delicious. Service was also good, had my order within about 2 minutes. Was lucky enough to arrive at a time when there was no queue. It is cash only so just make sure you have some money when you visit.
S W — Google review
Really nice and classic tram in the middle of Dundee. I should have gone for a sandwich which has a really nice review. But I ordered the flat white which might not suit my style of coffee. It was too bitter and woody for me. The service was really friendly and they did warn me that only cash was accepted. So make sure you have some cash.
Noot K — Google review
Huge sandwiches for not much money. Service with a smile. Perfect for lunch on the go.

Always loved coming here but we have became veggie so not too many options for us now. Had to go for the ploughman's. Amazing fresh bread and plenty filling and always u usual beautiful soup. Need more veggie choices though! Xx
Kirsty S — Google review
Excellent sandwich absolutely packed, nice bread and really tasty, good coffee too. The prices are also very reasonable but it's cash only which in 2022 can only be hurting their business.

Bistro
Cafe
Restaurant
The Bach is a trendy and laid-back bar bistro that pays homage to New Zealand, offering a global influence on its cafe fare. The name "Bach" reflects its Kiwi roots, meaning a holiday getaway home. Run by Kiwi owners, it offers an easygoing atmosphere with no-fuss mentality. The menu features craft coffee, rock star flavors, and diverse brunch options such as Eggs Benedict, kedgeree, corn fritters, and coconut-lime waffles.
Big up to Jonty for making our lunch date enjoyable. He provided great recommendations and the food was spectacular. The beer with the mango essence was a killer as well. Will come back again :)
Vignesh R — Google review
The Bach is located in the city centre, but parking is a bit far—so be ready for a short walk. The interior is well-designed and inviting, with a dog-friendly setup and seating options that work for everyone. I tried one of their smoothies, which was really good. However, for an Indian palate, I found the food a bit bland. Also, if you ask for a dip or sauce, they charge an extra pound, which felt a bit much. That said, the overall experience was positive—especially for first-timers who enjoy exploring new cuisines. Portion sizes were decent too
Abby S — Google review
I visited this spot on 3rd September and I have to say, I was really impressed. The vibe of the place is so chill and cozy. It’s the kind of atmosphere where you can just relax and enjoy your meal. The interior is also really well done, giving it an inviting feel. If you're ever looking for a place to unwind, this is definitely one to check out. I decided to try their Fried Vegan Breakfast and wow, the spread was amazing. Every element was fresh, flavorful, and really hit the spot. Just a heads-up, though, they do charge a little extra if you want bread with your breakfast, which was a bit of a surprise, but still worth it for the quality. Their menu is pretty extensive, offering something for everyone, but keep in mind the prices are a bit on the steeper side. Still, if you’re into exploring different cuisines and appreciate a cozy dining experience, it’s totally worth it. Overall, it was a really good experience and I will definitely be back to try more of their offerings. If you love discovering new places and enjoy tasty, well-prepared meals, this one’s a gem!
Ritz L — Google review
Came here for lunch, we were advised it would take about 30 minutes to get our food as it was pretty much full. We ordered the Cabbie burger and the French Toast, we also recieved a complimentary taster from the dinner menu that was pork (forgot the actual name but the man who served us it was very lovely and did fully explain the dish). All the food was delicious, no notes. We also had an iced chai latte and an iced mocha, also delicious and also no notes. The Bach is the best place in town in regards to having a variety of food for brunch, it is incredibly busy often for a reason!
Hannah B — Google review
Full disclosure before I start - I'm a Kiwi, so I'm a little biased about this wonderful gem. Dundee, you are so lucky to have this cafe. The menu was so varied that it was hard to decide. They take brunch seriously here, and that's reflected in their offerings. My korean fried chicken was delicious and served on a light cornmeal waffle. I loved the touch of pickled veges. Coffee's were great. On top of that, they've got a range of Kiwi treats on offer as well. The Bach ppl - if you're reading this, please know you're awesome. If there was one thing that jarred, it was the music choice. Nirvana at 10am on a Thursday wasn't quite the vibe we were expecting. Bring on Fat Freddys and crowded house (or, you know, a little more chill). ❤️
Anna A — Google review
Beware, the menu changes late afternoon. I came with a menu item in mind only to have missed the option by 20 minutes! The evening menu provides a good range of choices. So my Morrocan Carrots and Sweet Potato Fries substituted to provide an interesting range of tastes. The Spirulina cold drink went well with the food. The capuccino is the best I've tried in Dundee... so far!
Steve M — Google review
Giggling because google didn’t suggest this place. Now seeing the reviews, we are the ignorant and can confirm well worth a visit. We stumbled in tonight (Friday) and were so pleasantly surprised with the quality across the board. Kiwis did it right. Tomahawk was the star, everything else also delish. Atmosphere is a bit odd but you can actually hear each other and it all works. Very much enjoyed!!!

Great place with the best brunch, lunch and drinks options! Love that everything is well sourced and they offer halal meat. 10/10 will always go.

Empire State Coffee Artisan Roasters, situated in the heart of Dundee on Whitehall Crescent, is a must-visit for coffee enthusiasts. The cafe offers an array of freshly baked goods, including cinnamon scrolls, Italian apple pie, Bakewell tarts, and more. It's known for its artisan coffee and delectable pastries like croissants and cakes. Visitors praise the excellent quality of their roasted coffee beans and commend the friendly staff.
We visited Empire State cafe a few times whilst visiting Dundee. It's the best coffee shop in the city and they have delicious food options! It'd be great if they could have air-con as it gets really hot during the summer.
Penelope K — Google review
I have been to Empire State Coffee twice now, and I absolutely loved both the dark and white hot chocolate. They were rich, smooth, and delicious! The atmosphere was really nice, chill, and perfect for relaxing on my own. The service was great, too, which made the experience even better.

Awesome sourdough croissants! So good I had to order a second one...the first was ham and cheese, the second with jam! Great coffee too!

Very good capuccino and excellent range of bagels, sandwiches and pastries. Very friendly and welcoming staff.

Absolutely lovely little spot, with delicious food! Sooo many options for scrumpy toasties, baguettes, croissant sandwiches and sweet treats. My partner and I stopped in here on a long drive and he described his cinnamon roll as better than anything he's ever had in London. Thanks so much!
Francesca R — Google review
We saw this, and immediately thought; 'good coffee'. WRONG! We both had lattes, they took almost fifteen minutes to come, and we're searingly hot and hardly any flavour! Disappointed.
Les S — Google review
Chanced upon this amazing cafe in Dundee city centre. Great ambience for small group meets up and chit chat. The savoury pastries were amazing and the latte was aromatic. As you can see they have a wide variety of sweet and savoury pastries for your selection.

Pizza Hut is a well-known and popular establishment that offers delivery, takeout, and dine-in options. It is recognized for its variety of pizza flavors, chicken wings, and pasta dishes. In addition to these main courses, they also provide a range of sides and desserts. Pizza Hut has gained attention for catering to vegan customers by offering around six different vegan pizza choices. One notable option is the Vegan BBQ Jack N Ch**se which features jackfruit combined with BBQ sauce.
First time visitor to Pizza Hut! It was such a good experience. The lady that welcomed us was so friendly and inviting. The restaurant was clean and the food was fantastic, everything was fresh and really hot. Would highly recommend the apple crumble cookie dough - I could of eaten it 5 times over 🤩

We chose the lunch time buffet.Salad bar was great, pizzas were just cooked, so food was fresh. Waitress was accommodating but we were the only people in there at 11:45am. 12:30 two more customers entered.
Mike D — Google review
First time in Pizza hut in a long time. It's a self service type meno, scan QR code on table, choose everything you want and pay through app. Curious on why at the end it pushes for service tip?? So a standard pizza for 1, with a side, drinks and unlimited salad, then a pudding was roughly £28. Was very nice, fresh and a lot.
Chas W — Google review
Preferably I would go here and have the pizza rather order them to my home. So tasty and juicy! Try getting a sharing one, where you get the salad and few other stuff for free.
Thillai M — Google review
Recently visited the restaurant. Great service by the manager on the shift(cute wee boy with glasses on).Got me the best deals available. Pizzas were mouth watering. Clean toilets and tables. Absolutely loved the beef burger pizza!!
Aditya P — Google review
Enjoyed the food. Can’t give 5 stars for service because we did most of it ourselves. Not the staff’s fault just the way the system is set up now, removes the personal touch.
Claire B — Google review
Great experience all round! Food is always high quality and piping hot, salad bar always feels fresh and there is so much variety to choose from. Staff are amazing! Very attentive and figured out that my partner and I were sharing our meals so brought us extra plates and cutlery. Everything arrived in great time even when it started getting busy.

Food was tasty.. but almost £50 for 2 x 11 inch pizzas and 3 drinks was horrendous. I pay £7.99 per pizza at pizza hut collection... Staff were not very friendly and had to order using QR code. Would not go back, felt ripped off

Tea house
Iced Gems, a tea house in Gray Street, Broughty Ferry, is an excellent spot to get a taste of the local cuisine. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the coffee is superb and the cakes and sandwiches are well worth trying. The small cafe is well laid out with no cramped areas - perfect for catching up with friends or lunch. It's also very reasonably priced and highly recommended.
This is quite a small family run cafe. However, it is very friendly and when we went in we had a wide range of cakes. We started with lentil soup which was very tasty. Then I had a piece of parsnip cake which was delicious with a quite unique flavour. To finish we had an excellent latte. All told, excellent value, with lots of choice.
Andrew B — Google review
Recommend by another cafe (as it was full). Small cafe, tables very small could feel claustrophobic when full. Nice feel, friendly staff, fantastic looking cakes and very reasonably priced. We had deep filled chicken mayo, on seeded, £7.10. Lots of filling, nice tasting chicken, filling was cold and bread and side dressing was nice. Had a fruit scone, asked if I wanted it warmed. Served with tasty jam and butter which wasn't like a brick, lots of fruit. Personally it was a bit over done on the base, for me. Coffee and tea were nice. Would go back.
Thurso L — Google review
Iced Gems in Gray Street, Broughty Ferry, has such a modest frontage, it gives away nothing about what lies inside. The staff are welcoming and friendly; the coffee is the best; and the cakes, tray bakes, scones, sandwiches are Michelin 5 Star. Such a great selection of eats. Wonderful place for lunch, or coffee and a catch up. It is small but well laid out and not cramped. Not suitable for those who wish to take in their baby buggies. Very well priced, and it it lives up to its name, it is a real gem.
Alice A — Google review
A very cute little cafe. Do wish that teapot came accompanied with jug of hot water for top-ups. Something lacking in most cafes. However staff were attentive and diligent and scone served warm --- hmm!!

Iced Gems is a tiny hidden gem. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Lots of fruit Infusion teas to choose from. Plus for once, several food options which are gluten and dairy free from which makes a very welcome change.

If you're a fan of vibrant Tex-Mex cuisine, then Wee Mexico is an absolute must-visit on your culinary journey. This lively eatery specializes in classic Mexican dishes like burritos, tacos, and nachos, all crafted with a twist to accommodate various dietary preferences including vegan, gluten-free, and halal options. The atmosphere is quirky and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a casual lunch or quick bite on-the-go.
Great wee place in Dundee. Searched for Mexican food for something to have betore the train. In walking distance to the station. Arrived. There is a small electronic kiosk to order on. Everything is laid out easily to understand. Prices are decent. The prices on their website were slightly cheaper than on the machine. But I have found this alot of places recently. It was relatively quiet when I visited. When I was waiting for my order, the smell of stale smoke and alcohol did keep permeating the small establishment from next door. Nice wee sitting area. I think from memory this was up a wee flight of stairs rendering the place not accessible everywhere. Food was alright, nothing to write home about, but it got the job done for filling me up. Would consider to come here again, if other places were closed. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
David C — Google review
Ordered today and honestly one of the worst takeaways we’ve had, especially for £35 for just two people. The burrito was nothing but dry mince and beans, no flavour and no variety of filling at all. The chicken tacos were awful—dry, barely any chicken, with brown lettuce and nothing else inside, so dry they were hard to swallow. The munchie box with nachos and chips came plain with no sauces (no guacamole, salsa or sour cream), and the mince was just dumped in huge lumps. For the price we paid, the quality was shocking and definitely not worth it. Won’t be ordering again.
Amy P — Google review
The Wee Mexico is an iconic building framing the walk up the Perth Road with an interesting history and charming atmosphere in the dining room. We tried out this food spot for there highly recommended lunchtime deal with myself and my partner getting the King and Great Burrito Deal with sides of cheesy nachos and cans of soda each for under £10 each. However, the burritos themselves were pretty lacking in flavour, and the nachos with cheese sauce were overly salty and difficult to eat, I would not recommend, and if returning here again I would go for the fries as a side for the meal.
Shane D — Google review
Got the £10 lunch deal with would have been a good deal if the tacos weren’t dryer than the Sahara. Granted as a fussy person I didn’t have all the extras that may have added moisture but I don’t think that’s an excuse for the chicken being crumbly and hard to swallow it was so dry. The fries were good basic but good. The service was down right terrible as I enter I follow a sign that says order and pay here. I stand at till for about 5 minuets as the two girls behind the counter look at me and pass by me multiple times one microwaving various things (probably explaining why the chicken was boarderline edible) eventually the Indian/girl asks me if I need help and sends me to kiosk by the door I didn’t initially see. What followed was probably the slowest service I have experienced in quick service location like seriously almost three minuets to bag two boxes seriously it was laughable. Based off this experience I very likely won’t be back the service was slow and the food wasn’t even good
AJ H — Google review
Lunch time meal deal: £10 for a main, side and drink! I had the king burrito with chicken which was massive and jam packed. Very tasty. Side of cheesy nachos which were also great. Portion size is very generous and it was too much for me but colleagues were happy to share my nachos! I ordered online to collect and the food was ready for me to collect in less than a 5 minute walk so very fast service. Would definitely try again.
S W — Google review
The staff were welcoming. Walking to the seating area there is a strong unclean smell at the staircase. The seating area is clean and is a nice environment to eat. The food arrived quickly, but the burrito lacked any sort of spice and flavour. It had fresh ingredients and was filling. The menu says the food is spicy unless you ask for mild, it’s not spicy at all. I asked for a VAT receipt and was told they don’t provide them!! If you charge VAT you should issue a VAT receipt, it’s the law. Add spice and provide VAT receipts and I would return and recommend to others.
James C — Google review
Food was super dry, tasted like school dinner food for over £10 a meal not great. Good vegan options. Place was empty when we walked in and all the tables were clarted with rubbish empty bottles and the floor was filthy. Had to clean the table myself. Nothing to note on the service as we had to order on a kiosk. Wont be back!
Joy M — Google review
Came here for lunch on the way to Glasgow as we thought it would be good for a quick bite. Only 2 staff in the place who seemed completely overwhelmed even though there were only 4 tables. In the hour we were there they only served 3 which is insane considering it’s mostly already prepped food. Took 30 mins for us to to get 2 burritos and a nachos. The burritos were terrible, super dry with barely any filling apart from dry beans and rice. Nachos weren’t great either. So the food did not make up for the wait in any way. Cafe
Parlour is a renowned restaurant in Dundee, established in 2013 and known for its changing seasonal menu. The restaurant offers traditional and experimental dishes with an extensive wine list. Head chef Alan Murchison brings classic French cuisine to the table, featuring dishes like snails with garlic butter and tarragon toast. Additionally, Parlour's sister restaurant, Kitchen 1877, is located nearby. This neighborhood cafe serves modern breakfast and lunch options along with occasional pop-up evening events.
Wonderful wee place! Staff are super friendly and accommodating, had a lovely chat with one of the waitresses when my food was served. I had the biscoff bun (which was scrumptious) and a pot of tea. So many good cakes to choose from, and all a generous size! My friend had the falafel wrap, again a generous portion size and she said it was delicious. A great variety of wraps, sausage rolls, tortillas, soups, cakes and pastries to choose from. One of my new favourite places! It can be quite busy here so try and time your arrival right, but you shouldn't have to wait more than 5 minutes for a table.

Ive just had one of the most confusing cafe trips of my life. As soon as we arrived, with a pram, another door had to be opened, for some reason this involved a 5ft 3 staff member, on a stepladder with a Butter knife. We ordered banana bread and some bacon bagels (apparently they had no rolls.) I know the banana bread is fresh and, given how long it took to arrive, I can only assume they started baking it the moment we asked for it. As for the rest of it, the bacon was so raw, I wouldn't be surprised if the pig's family were still in mourning, it was paired with a bagel so raw and untoasted, it may well have been used as a blunt weapon to finish off the pig. All in all, wouldn't recommend.

French music creates a magical vibe and a cozy atmosphere while you enjoy your morning cup of coffee. It's a very pleasant staff.

Went in for breakfast with my partner and baby and had an awful experience. The cafe was visibly dirty and when my coffee came out had a lipstick stain on the cup. When our banana bread came eventually came out (and resembled the texture of builders sand) we were given it on one plate with the explanation 'we don't have that many plates so you have to share'... our bacon bagels came 20 mins later and weren't even toasted and the bacon was raw! Don't go!

We had the meze and a couple of glasses of wine. The food was beautiful; fresh and tasty. The service was excellent too. Can't wait to go back and also to visit Cambo Gardens.

Popped in for a quick coffee and toastie. Service quick and friendly staff. Unfortunately ? owner had a very loud phone call in the main services area arranging for mouse traps to be delivered later that day! This did ruin the experience which was a shame

Always interesting tasty food. Always busy which is a good sign. Staff are great.

Came for afternoon coffee and cake but selection was very limited and not quite the quality we'd hoped. Coffee was lovely however and staff very pleasant. Very basic decor to sit in.

Bakery
Donut shop
Fisher & Donaldson, a renowned bakery established in 1919, is located in the heart of Dundee. The bakery is celebrated for its rich heritage and artisanal confections. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the delightful aroma of freshly baked goods, with the famous Dundee cake as a highlight. This traditional Scottish delicacy features succulent dried fruits and whole almonds, offering a taste of local history.
We stopped off in Dundee for a couple of hours and knew we had to try the renowned Dundee Cake. Having decided on Fisher and Donaldson, we’re so glad we did — the service was excellent, and although Dundee Cake wasn’t on their main menu that day, the staff kindly obliged and served us a slice from the bakery. The cake was everything we hoped for: delicious and authentic. We were so delighted that we bought another to take home. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance to try their famous marmalade this time, so we’ll definitely be visiting again!

Brilliant bakery in the centre of Dundee. Stopped in for lunch last week and had a breakfast roll (link sausage) and a Scotch pie. Both were fantastic. Service was also fast and very friendly. There’s a huge array of beautiful looking cakes which included their famous fudge doughnut, an absolute must if you haven’t tried it. Maybe the best in the world?!
S W — Google review
Always delicious. Loads to choose from, the cream towers (specifically chocolate) are my favourite, filled to the brim with chocolate cream inside - a very messy eat but so worth it. Also, the fudge donuts are amazing! Everything a very generous size. Savoury pastries also look really nice, will be back to try next time. There's also a small cafe if you prefer to sit in.

The food was absolutely amazing – full of flavour and beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the experience was let down by the rude and unwelcoming staff. It really took away from what could’ve been a perfect visit. Great food deserves great service to match. Hopefully, the customer service improves, because the kitchen team is clearly doing an excellent job.
Abin S — Google review
Beautiful food, so good it's almost worth the insane prices - £13 for 2 strawberry tarts and a packet of tattie scones? Come on! It's not THAT good. One member of staff almost always gives you the impression that she'd rather be left alone and you, as a customer, are entirely unwelcome. Put it this way - Greggs staff are unfailingly polite, their prices are a fraction of F&D and their food is maybe 75% as good....so....you know....just saying.
Dave — Google review
This was honestly one of the worst pastry shop experiences I’ve ever had in Europe. The woman who served me (an older white lady) picked up the pastries with her bare hands – no gloves, no tongs, nothing. I was completely shocked. She had also been handling the cash register and walking around the café, so her hands were touching all sorts of surfaces. Extremely unhygienic and unacceptable, especially for food service. I bought a chocolate profiterole and a strawberry-shaped cake, then noticed there were seats available with other people sitting down and eating. Since the profiterole was quite big, I sat down to eat – only to be approached immediately and told that I had to pay an additional £1.95 to sit and eat, even though I’d already bought their desserts. I explained that I didn’t realize there was a dine-in fee, as there were no clear signs, and the table menus featured the same desserts I just bought. I even offered to order a drink from the menu, but she insisted I must pay the dine-in fee anyway since I had already started eating. It gets worse. She made me get up and walk back to the counter just to pay the £1.95 fee, then spent almost 10 minutes fumbling with the payment machine, repeating “just a moment” and “sorry” over and over again while I stood there awkwardly holding my half-eaten profiterole. It was incredibly frustrating. As for the pastries: the profiterole was okay, but the strawberry one was just so-so. Overall, the hygiene standards, service quality, and customer treatment were bad. This experience left me with a very negative impression of Dundee. First time ever I felt the need to leave a 1-star review on Google.

A good bakery in Dundee. The Dundee cake made by Fisher and Donaldson is one of the best cakes in the town. The customer service is also fine. If you are busy and want to want to eat an item, the shop has a small space for that too and the shop is pretty much isolated every time. Some baked food items are quite expensive too.

Dropped in for a bowl of soup, it's always delicious and home made. You get a slice of bread and loads of butter. Definitely recommend. Atmosphere is cosy and table service is very efficient.

The Palais Tea Room is a quaint tea house in Dundee with an old-fashioned 50s vibe. It's perfect for a quick refreshment with friends or family, and the home baking is delicious.
I recently visited Dundee and popped into the Palais tea room for a hot chocolate. It was wonderful, washed down with some home baking. There is a 50’s vibe to the place and was pleased to see a picture of Johnny Cash scowling down at me. It feels like tea at your grannies! If you are in Dundee and want refreshments with character I recommend the Palais.

Very nice tea room in Dundee. Sweet and small, decorated like a little tea room, the atmosphere and setting were idyllic. We arrived right before tea time with no reservations, so I was happy to get in. Our scones were delicious as was my English Breakfast served in fine china. Definitely a cool tea room to stop in, was a little bummed no clotted cream but maybe that's a regional thing, the jams were yummy and full of fruit no sugar. Well done. In any respect, would definitely revisit and recommend.

Excellent sandwiches, cakes scones, and tea was lovely except with the unlimited tea they just repoured hot water over my original teabag so it was more like unlimited hot water???

On a two day visit to Dundee we went to the Palais Tea room and had a lovely lunch on the first day with sandwiches and tea for 4. Enjoyed the lovely little tea room so much that we went back today for coffee and fabulous cake. Lovely staff and atmosphere and would highly recommend. Thank you, definitely worthy of 5 stars.

Stopped for breakfast after visiting Dundee for a wedding. Cosy little tea room with a retro feel, all 60's tunes & floral patterned crockery. We both had the full cooked breakfast with a coffee & peppermint tea. Good value at £17.50 (which included 2 packs of tablet for the train ride). Lovely ingredients, well cooked with gorgeous toast on the side. Not huge portions so if you want a 'builders breakfast' probably better going elsewhere. Home-baked cakes & scones looked fantastic too. Highly recommended.

We came here for afternoon tea due to the excellent reviews, and we were sorely, horribly, disappointed. We ordered three afternoon teas and two bowls of soup. The soup tasted like it was poured from a can and warmed in the microwave. The afternoon tea was worse. The tea itself was fine, but the sandwiches were dry and almost inedible (with the notable exception of the tuna, which provided a relief), and the scones didnt' use clotted cream, but came in a sandwich form with some sort of whipped topping and not nearly enough of that, or jam. The cakes at the end were the worst. Dry, plastic-tasting, with the "frosting" leaving a metallic aftertaste in our mouths. There were six of us, all of us non-fussy eaters, and every single one of us hated almost everything. Never, ever again. My eight-year-old sister could make a better afternoon tea with ingredients from Poundland. We had a completely different experience at Effie's in Perth. Amazing afternoon tea, sublime soup, carrot cake to die for, and fantastic food. It saved the culinary aspect of our Scottish vacation.

Booked morning tea for 10 of us and were not disappointed! Friendly staff, great service and everything tasted lovely . Thank you so much to The Palais for making my mum's Birthday such a nice treat and great value for money.

Lovely warm welcome in fabulous nostalgic surroundings. Our soup was just like home from home wholesome and heart warming. We loved our tea and scones too. A perfect ending for our visit to the V.A.
