Cafe San Sebas is a charming spot located in a pleasant square, offering a bright and vibrant interior courtyard that creates a welcoming atmosphere. It's known for its delicious brunch options, including breakfast burritos, pancakes, bagels, salads, juices, and coffee. The cafe serves contemporary comfort food from North America with generous portion sizes at fair prices. Situated in the San Sebas barrio of Cuenca, it attracts both locals and tourists with its excellent food and coffee.
Heard a lot about this place. We had Breakfast Tacos and Huevos Rancheros. Not much of a difference than one comes in Toastadas and other one on a taco. Food was very flavorful. We enjoyed the art works more than the food. They hosted a dog adoption day, so get to meet a lot of furry friends. Service was excellent. Looks to be popular with expats. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good brunch.

Atmosphere and decor is fabulous. My husband loved his breakfast burrito. The home fries are delicious with great seasonings. A few were cold tho. My bagel breakfast sandwich was good but the bagel is cooked on the grill not just toasted so it was a bit greasy. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful and spoke English. Reasonable prices for quantity and quality. Highly recommend!

AN OUTSTANDING BREAKFAST in Cuenca 🤩🤩🤩. It looks very popular, most of the tables are occupied even in the middle of the work week. The breakfast menu is simple yet substantially varied to suit any gustatory desire. *** NOTABLY, each of listed BF dishes have “sub-selections” such as fried or scrambled eggs, bacon or ham, white or multigrain bread, potatoes or fruit bowls. It’s PERSONALIZED BREAKFAST … great concept / business model 👏👏👏👏👏. SOME RECOMMENDATIONS: 🤩🤩🤩 Desayuno San Sebas: it’s the house specialty. It’s a very substantial BF, eggs prepared however one desires, choices of meat and carbs. 🤩🤩🤩 Migas: a lovely ovovegetarian BF 🤩🤩🤩 Meat Lovers Scramble: a large BF for the carnivore 👍👍👍👍👍 For bread choice: Ask for the Integral Multigrano …. It’s a terrific whole grain multigrain bread… it’s flavorful, substantial and HEALTHY choice for bread 😊😊😊 The breakfast potatoes is excellent: Seasoned well and flavorful 🤩🤩🤩 Given a choice, ask for the fruit bowl! OH the coffee is fresh piping hot! Service is outstanding! The general ambiance is well designed. There are three dining rooms and an upstairs. Tables are comfortable and well spaced apart. 👏👏👏👏👏

I had just the burger but it was soo good i’m sure the other stuff they have is great as well. The burger was juicy and tasty. The place is also very beautiful with great artwork and lovely ambiance. I look forward to trying the other stuff on their menu. We did some work there too and it was a perfect space for that.
Duke Y — Google review
Such a beautiful little place. The terrace upstairs was very cute and pleasant. I had the huevos rancheros which were amazing. The breakfast tacos and "hippie" scramble are also recommended. The strawberry juice was so good, I had 3 servings.
DP S — Google review
Excellent breakfast fare, gracious staff and well located establishment. Really enjoyed everything about Cafe San Sebas. Gem of a spot with quality dishes at fair prices 👌. Only complaint was the regular black coffee but that is a minor issue that should not deter you from checking this place out. Thank you Cafe San Sebas for your amazing breakfast and great service!!!!
Clent J — Google review
For selfish reasons, I hesitate to review this place because I would be inconvenienced if it got overrun. But, the food, hospitality and vibe are wonderful. Don’t take all the brownies, please leave one for me.
Kejomac — Google review
The food and coffee is pretty good but I was disappointed in the service. The waitress didn’t answer my questions about the food properly (even though I spoke in Spanish). I wanted to know what else came with pumpkin French toast (which isn’t on their regular menu) and she said “nothing”, even though it comes with fruit, granola, a sauce and cream. I asked for my juice to be with very little sugar but it was still too sweet. I don’t recommend eating here if you have dietary restrictions because they don’t seem to give enough information about what’s in the food and they don’t care to adjust the food according to your dietary restrictions.

Pub
Restaurant
Golden Prague Pub in Cuenca is a delightful brewpub that captures the essence of Czech beer culture. Known for its refreshing draught beers, it offers an enticing happy hour from 3 PM to 7 PM, making it a perfect spot for beer enthusiasts. The ambiance is relaxed and inviting, with friendly staff who enhance the experience. While the music may not be everyone's cup of tea, the atmosphere remains enjoyable.
A very modern and stylish restaurant. Service was good, food is nice about the same as we expected. Beer was nice too. Very spacious inside with open atmosphere. If you are foreigners and wish to try any western style, this is a place to be.

We have been there on a Tuesday night. There was one male service person, he was really rude and unfriendly. The female ones were really great- thanks! We enjoyed burger and the table tennis
Emma F — Google review
Great spot, excellent staff and wide variety of beer. The imperial lager was the highlight of the beers and so was the porter. Potatoe crisps were way SALTY and the bread could be more toasted but it was pleasant.
A C — Google review
An interesting cross of sports bar and brew pub, with a family slant. Quite a few TV’s playing the soccer match, a kiddie play area, and a ping pong table. They have a number of craft beers, and I tried the honey lager, which was very good. My wife had a white wine, not too many choices for vino. For dinner, my wife had a pulled pork hamburger, and I had ravioli with ricotta. Both were nicely presented and tasty. For dessert, we had a postre that was a suave bizcocho soaked in chocolate with vanilla ice cream. Totally over the top but very good. It’s an open air sort of place, so if the weather is cool, bring a sweater. There is a small outside seating area.
Mark B — Google review
The name tells the whole story...except it doesn’t. This is a beer hall apparently owned and operated by the eponymous Czech brewery. Cavernous inside, and offering basically four or five different beers on tap of its own production, this place also offers pretty good pub food. I found everything on offer to be of good quality, but neither the beers nor the food amazed me. However, the classic Czech/German beer hall layout inside was a pleasant surprise.
Reginald W — Google review
Huge space with Czech beer and cuisine. I found it a bit less impressive than their pubs in Guayaquil and Galapagos, despite it being the central one. The goulash for example is pork, not beef and is not very good with a lot of pork fat. I went for the lunch menu once and there was only one person doing everything, so everything took ages. Seems the owners are caring about all their other pubs but somehow forgot about their main one.

Awesome atmosphere to watch Ecuador va Brasilia futbol match. Julio is a great server, and Great biers $3-6 although no cider yet, highly recommend !
Kole L — Google review
Huge beer hall. Immaculately clean and modern, with tasty clean beer to match. I’m looking forward to returning to compete in their 500ml in 5 seconds, beer challenge. The beers and food are little pricey by Latin American standards, so aim for happy hour of your drinking (half price beer).

Jodoco Belgian Bistro is a charming spot known for its locally brewed Belgian beers, including double, triple, and quadruple varieties. The menu offers a diverse selection of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options that are tasty but on the pricier side. In addition to the delicious beer, there's also a great variety of local craft beers and imports available. Visitors can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere while savoring authentic Belgian-style beers with a nice color and flavorful balance of malt and hops.
Fantastic spot. Relaxed, clean, service was excellent, not too crowded. Beer selection is second to none in Cuenca. Had a filet mignon and a couple of sides recently, and it was cooked to perfection. I've gone there many times, and it's always excellent.

Craft beers are really Belgian taste. Definitely a master piece here in Cuenca. However, attention is not the best, employees could be more polite and explain the experience of tasting really good beer. Additionally, they could be more polite, service is cold and empty, could improve. Atmosphere is not bad, maybe something more is missing because outside it looks like any other beer bar from around, but is not. French fries are good enough.
JeanCarlo A — Google review
Great place for tapas or a sit down meal. Nice selection of Crafted cervezas (beer) with a full menu of lunch or dinner 🍽️. Enjoy tapas while sitting outside or go inside for a sit down meal with friends or family. Good table side service - but outside of tapas be prepared to enjoy the company as entrees come out when they're ready, maybe not when you're ready for them Enjoy yourself while you wait with good company and a pint of craft beer.
Michael H — Google review
As a Belgian myself, I must say that the stoofvlees with fries were really good. A little side salad would have been beneficial though. We also ordered the frikandel aka curryworst special, but that one didn’t really taste like it should. It was quite dry and had a different texture. I also advise the restaurant to have real Belgian mayonaise and ketchup to accompany the dishes, especially for the fries and frikandel special. Also we think that vol au vent should be re-added to the menu, it’s a real Belgian classic! Service was top!
Y. V — Google review
I ordered a fish burger and two dark beers with cherries. The beers were very good, they are expensive but you get what you paid for. The fish burger was good but nothing special in order to deserve a five star.
Deric ( — Google review
The Belgian beer was perfect temperature. I fell in love with the Delirium Red dessert beer. Fruit based beer is difficult to pull off.....but this one tops my list by far. Excellent mix of fruity hops and smooth finish yeasts make this an instant classic.

This resto-bar had a pretty good range of craft and imported beer. The atmosphere was good, the place it’s centric and well located and has a terrace. Other than beers we got the Belgian chips that didn’t look very Belgian but they tasted right

Marea Pizzeria & Bakery is a popular spot in Cuenca and Montanita known for its delicious wood-fired pizzas made in an adobe oven. In addition to pizza, they also offer pasta and breakfast options at their Cuenca location. Customers have praised the tasty fillings in the sandwiches and the quality of the food. While some items on the menu may not always be available, visitors appreciate the friendly service and pleasant atmosphere.
Good pizza, friendly service! Not the cheapest, and not everything from the menu available (today we don't have this, this, and that...) but a nice atmosphere to have dinner at and the food quality is good! Plus: free Pizza bread and dips :)

Up side: Delicious wood fired bread. Tasty fillings in the sandwich. Ok service and reasonable prices. Buy some bread before you leave ($1.75 ciabatta loaf). We want to come back for Pizza. Downside: 3 of the things we wanted to order were not available, maybe because it was a Sunday? Don't think they Speak English but I think you could manage.

Different than any other pizza I have tried in Cuenca so far. it had a more artesanal taste/look to it. Lots of option to choose from and everything is enjoyed in a beautifully arranged room.
Genaro M — Google review
Breakfast was ok, drinks came after food, food not at the same time, but still was delicious. Waiters speak English and are really attentive. Coffee is strong. Wish to have been there for pizza because the oven looked sooo nice!
Lisa C — Google review
What a fantastic meal I just had. My salad was absolutely delicious and the mulberry juice... Oh My God! Honestly it might be the best juice I've had in my life. I highly recommend coming here. This meal made made my night!
Jesse H — Google review
Overpriced soggy pizza with nice atmosphere. Cute ambiance with piped light rock music, but fare is substandard with north-american prices: I've eaten better frozen pizza. It may be a fancy oven, yet what came out of it was soggy in the middle (as in waterloggled) instead of being crunchy. Perhaps the outer 1-inch of crust was better than completely uninspiring. The caprese salad we ordered was largely tomatoes with several dry mozzarella slivers lining the rim of the platter. If the intent is loitering in a pleasant environment, then this may work; but there are better options for self-respecting food.
Alberto G — Google review
Tried to eat here after a long day of hiking in Cajas. We were starving and really wanted pizza. We showed up 20 minutes before they closed for their lunch time, and were turned away. Normally if a restaurant advertises “open” hours and you come during that time, they are happy to serve you. Regardless, we really wanted pizza so we unfortunately decided to come back for dinner when they reopened. Something to note: you can not choose what you want on your pizza. They have toppings which you can pay extra for, shown on the menu. BUT, you are only allowed to add them to their menu choice pizzas. The cheese pizza has a note next to it which states that you are not allowed to add toppings. To further explain, the large cheese pizza is $10. The pizza with mushroom, garlic and parsley is $16. That is a $6 (60%) upcharge to add only these three items, two of which are not even really toppings. One is garnish and the other should be in the sauce already. For example: as noted, the large cheese pizza is $10. Toppings are either $2 or $2.5 additional. If you wanted a pizza with only mushrooms, you would be forced to purchase a $16 or higher menu priced pizza which had mushrooms already, and ask to remove all other toppings. We wanted a pizza with mushrooms and eggplant only. I asked the waiter if this was possible, and he stated what I have previously explained. I pointed out that there were no pizzas on the menu which had both of those toppings, and any one which had either of these also had things which we did not want. He said that our only option was to choose one of the $16 pizzas with mushrooms and trade a topping for eggplant... When I pointed out that we were paying for things we didn’t want, he responded “that’s what the menu says”. Ok, got it. Our pizza came with eggplant and without parsley, per his suggestion. The eggplant was extra thick sliced and crunchy. It also had a very thick skin which was hard to bite through. There were very few mushrooms. When we went to pay, our bill came to $17.50. When I inquired, he explained that the extra $1.50 was for adding eggplant. Despite the fact that he had just told us we could trade one topping for another, which we had already begrudgingly agreed to. We didn’t even know how to respond. I explained that he had just told us we could trade a topping, and he acted like we were crazy for thinking we could trade parsley for eggplant, even though that was his exact suggestion. So now, we had paid $7.50 to add a few mushroom pieces and thick crunchy eggplant to a $10 cheese pizza. We rarely write bad reviews, but this was some of the worst customer service we have experienced anywhere, and by far the worst in Ecuador. They should think more about service and less about profit. Forcing people to pay for things they don’t want is not a good model.
Grant — Google review
Outstanding wood fired pizza - not exactly what you will find in other countries but very good non the less. Be careful entering/exiting because you step right out into the road (not onto a sidewalk)!

Tres Estrellas is a family-run restaurant in Cuenca, Ecuador, known for serving cuy (guinea pig), a local specialty. Established since 1952, it has become a favorite among both locals and visitors. The restaurant offers traditional dishes like mote pillo along with the famous guinea pig. It's located on Calle Larga and provides excellent service in a comfortable setting.
Excellently prepared Cuy, juicy and crispy, we are glad that we followed the recommendation to go to this restaurant
Alan H — Google review
Tres Estrella more than a restaurant is a unique Cuenca experience. I went there for the Guinea pig (or cuy or cuis as they know it in South America). The cuy was okay although there was little meat to it. However, the overall experience was priceless, including the cooking of the cuy and the restaurant decor. Even if you are not yet ready to eat the cuy, I would recommend to stop by Tres Estrellas and experience the place.
Jorge P — Google review
If you're in Cuenca, this is the place to try guinea pig. The place oozes charm, it's packed with locals, and every single local who heard I was going here, or had been here, talked about how it's the absolute best place to get guinea pig. Be aware, it takes an hour to prepare a guinea pig, but if you want, you can reserve one ahead.
Vilhelm R — Google review
Excellent food, vibes, and service! We got the fresh juice, lomo fino de res, coffee, and locro de papas. Everything was so good! Great prices as well. They take credit card which is a plus. Will be returning. Food was so good, I ate it before taking a photo
Aksa — Google review
Small portions that don't justify the price; it looks like they're serving it with regret, as if they're afraid of running out of food
Jean P — Google review
Our guide reccommended us this restaurant. He comes here with his family to eat traditional guinea pig. I have to say it was very tasty, not to compare with any other meat. This restaurant is popular with locals so it is well wort a visit for authentic local food. The ambiente is very nice with lots of old stuff on the walls
Michi S — Google review
The "cuy" here is delicious, and the decor is very interesting, but getting a table can be tough especially during weekends and for large groups, I usually order to go , I call it my happy meal as they pack everything in a nice box. Also there is no parking especially when there are events at the nearby theater.

Taj Mahal is a highly recommended Indian restaurant located by the river and other great places along calle larga. The atmosphere may be ordinary, but the prompt service and delicious food make up for it. Visitors rave about the incredible flavors, friendly staff, and quick service. The mutton curry is particularly praised for being tender and juicy, accompanied by delightful condiments. Guests also appreciate the special experience created by the music and decoration in the restaurant.
I thoroughly enjoyed the food the last time I was there , a year plus ago. The food was flavorful with spices as per requested by different individuals. I enjoyed the store selling Pakistani handicrafts that is connected to the restaurant. He has some good quality stuff
Ambreen A — Google review
Easy location to find and well established restaurant in Cuenca. I don't know much about this kind of food but in my opinion it was really good with lots of flavor. Service is great the people are really nice. For Ecuador it is a little pricey though. Except the shawarma was about normal pricing around $5-6
Travis R — Google review
I really wanted to write a positive review because I love Indian food and I'm grateful it's available here in southern Ecuador. However, having eaten here three times over the past three months, I can't recommend this place. Examples: the garlic naan has no garlic flavor to it, the 'picante' spicy option has twice been almost flavorless devoid of hot spice and one other time it was extremely hot. Tonight's chicken was more black carbon than chicken and had zero taste of the spices it was supposedly cooked in. The burnt chicken was accompanied by french fries and a small side of fried rice, not what you would expect from an Indian kitchen. I have been a fan of Indian cooking since my childhood and I know how it can vary in quality. When I gave the waiter my honest feedback, his response was, "it'll be good next time." Cost was $18+ and not worth it. Best advice? if you want Indian food, wait until Raman Dass is back from India at the beginning of September and go to Punjabi Rasoi instead, which has been consistently excellent over the past year.
A E — Google review
I don’t like to bash family businesses, but the food here was trash. I asked for “Indian hot” and the butter chicken was sweet with no spice whatsoever. The naan was incredibly stale. Even the rice tasted like instant boil-in-a-bag. After I left I realized the over over charged me $10. They really need to do better.
Brendon S — Google review
Nice restaurant with traditional Indian food. Nice atmosphere, good service, and close to the river walk. Be prepared to pay cash because their machine would not take my two Visa cards.
Jim J — Google review
Nice restaurant. Tasty food and good selection of dinner items. We ordered the oven baked chicken which came with rice and salad or rice and French fries and spinach & potato paneer which was good. They also had chicken shwarma and a nice selection of Indian sweets.
Fiona B — Google review
Ordered chicken masala. Asked for medium spicy. What we got was basically chicken in tomato sauce. Absolutely no spice or flavor. Normally the food here is not too bad but tonight, it was horrible. The chef obviously has no idea what he/she is doing and should be fired.

What wonderful flavors. The manager was very welcoming, the food delicious. I had vegetarian this morning (falafel shawarma) and it was wonderful. This evening I had Krahi De Pollo. The taste was amazing and the ginger tea complimented it very well. I'm coming back tomorrow!

Guys- this place is amazing. Best Pastrami sandwich and best Irish red beer I've ever had. Service was 10/10- everyone working there was friendly and on top of everything. The place is clean and well organized. If I lived in cuenca- I would ve bere every week. Cheers and thanks for a great dinner!

One of the Best beer Gardens I’ve been to in a while! Met The amazing twin brothers that run the business they’re such great people to talk to and customer service that the whole staff provided was great. They have many different types of beer selection but the food was something I haven’t experienced in a beer garden not even in miami where I live, everything on the menu was delicious and can’t wait to go back and visit. Highly recommended!!!

If you don't fall in love with Ricardo and his infectious charisma, then this place isn't for you. We felt welcomed from the first step in the door and came back 3 or 4 times during our 3 weeks in Cuenca. Excellent food, alcohol options, and service. Feels like your local bar even if you've never been there. :)
Alex F — Google review
"Great Beer, Good Vibes, Almost Perfect" Lacraft Beer Garden was high on my list of places to check out in Cuenca. I'm a big fan of craft beer, and the idea of a beer garden in this beautiful city sounded incredibly appealing. My experience was largely positive, but a few small details kept it from being a full 5-star experience. First, the good: the beer selection is fantastic. They had a wide range of styles, from crisp lagers and hoppy IPAs to darker stouts and porters. I sampled a couple of different IPAs, and both were excellent – well-balanced, with distinct hop profiles and a clean finish. My companion tried a pale ale and was equally impressed. It's clear that they take their beer seriously, and it shows in the quality. They also have a good selection of bottled beers. The atmosphere is another major plus. The beer garden itself is lovely – a relaxed, open-air space with plenty of seating, both covered and uncovered. There's a good mix of locals and tourists, creating a lively but not overly rowdy vibe. It felt like a great place to unwind after a day of exploring Cuenca. They often have live music, which, on the night I went, added to the overall enjoyable ambiance. The music was good, and not too loud, you could still enjoy the music and have a conversation. The food was good, but not quite as impressive as the beer. I ordered the burger, which was cooked to a perfect medium-rare (as requested) and had good quality beef. The toppings were fresh, and the bun was nicely toasted. However, the fries were a bit underwhelming – they were a little limp and could have used more seasoning. My companion had the wings, which they said were tasty, but nothing extraordinary. It's definitely solid pub fare, but don't come expecting a gourmet culinary experience. Service was friendly and generally efficient. Our server was knowledgeable about the different beers and happy to offer recommendations. However, it did get a little slow when the place got busier later in the evening. We had to flag someone down to get our second round of drinks, which is a minor, but noticeable, point. Price-wise, Lacraft is a bit more expensive than some other bars in Cuenca, but it's still reasonable, especially considering the quality of the beer and the overall experience. In summary: Lacraft Beer Garden is a must-visit for craft beer lovers in Cuenca. The excellent beer selection, coupled with the pleasant atmosphere, makes for a great evening out. The food is good, but not quite at the same level as the beer, and service can be a touch slow during peak hours. I'd highly recommend it, but with the understanding that it's primarily a beer-focused establishment, with food playing a supporting role. Four solid stars, and I'll definitely be back for another pint (or two!) next time I'm in town.

This place is awesome! I recommend the burger container, 320 grams of beef cooked to perfection. Ricardo was awesome too. Takes good care of the customer!!

Our first visit and we really enjoyed their beer. We had a Stout and the Pale Ale. Both were very good and, since we ordered 2 liters (the big glasses), we received a free appetizer. The fries were yummy.

The pastrami sandwich was soft almost melting meat about 2 months ago. But now it's like eating a piece of rubber. Any other meal and beers are good. I'd stay off the pastrami sandwich specially if you had previously eaten a proper one.

La Pizza de Juanja is a pizzeria located in the Santa Anita park, a new gastronomic area in the capital of Azuay. The owner, Juan Javier Ordonez, perfected the classic dough during the pandemic and now offers a selection of ten ice creams on the menu with intriguing names like Pocion de Amor (Love Potion) and Chunkolate.
Tonight was our second time visiting this pizza establishment. The pizzas are handcrafted and baked in an Italian oven. The variety offered as strong, and you have the ability to choose your own pizza toppings if you would prefer. Tonight I ordered a burrata salad and it was scrumptious. Before the salad I ordered a manhattan. I must admit that I was a little skeptical about being served in excellent one. I love being proved wrong. The Manhattan was delicious and had just the right amount of sweet to it. We've been here twice and we will definitely be back again. Sidebar.... on our way out the owner asked us how our food was and we told him it was delicious and perfect. My husband started asking about the type of oven he has and he took him back to the kitchen and showed him the Italian Oven that produces these magnificent pizzas.

After a couple years living in the neighborhood, I finally made it to Pizza Juanja. It's a nicely set up place with a small bar and quite a few tables. The menu features (of course) pizza. I had a personal size pepperoni, and it was very good, the chef knows how to cook the crust so it's crispy. While the personal pizza was a little pricey ($10 or so), it was quite large, really big enough for 2 people. And they have whisky! La Craft is right next door, so a small pub crawl is the plan for our next visit.
Mark B — Google review
The wife and I have passed this place several times going next door to LaCraft and never stopped. We saw some friends dining last week and stopped to chat and they raved about the pizza. Fast forward to today, we stopped in for a glass of wine and a couple of pizzas. Just wow. The wife had the Mr. York and Camembert and I had the pepperoni with pineapple (don't judge). Pizza had very thin crust (my favorite) and both had great flavor, probably one of the best pizzas I have had in Cuenca. Service was great as was the atmosphere. We will be back. Highly recommend.

UPDATE JAN 2024 (a year from last post) A FOODIE’S GEM: OUTSTANDING ARTESANAL PIZZA in Cuenca.🤩🤩🤩 It’s another lovely gustatory visit to a very pleasant pizzeria. The place continues to be very popular👏👏👏. The place itself has an outstanding ambiance and is IMMACULATELY CLEAN. The live healthy plants and fresh flowers makes the whole place truly delightful👏👏👏 The main attraction here is the pizza. The Personal is perfectly sized: thin crispy crust, judicious amount of cheese and pizza sauce… attributes that spark gustatory memories of my trips to Italy. - it’s remarkable that the pizza sauces have varied sauce - additional toppings fortify the very conceived / crafted base pizza recipe - Kudos to the cook, he/she has the ability to add Anchovies judiciously and fortify the pizza flavor…WOW😋😋😋 One other remarkable thing: the pizza goes well with beer🍺🍺🍺. Service is outstanding! ***** Another TERRIFIC ARTESANAL PIZZERIA! I’m beginning to think Cuencanos love Naples🙃. The restaurant itself has a lovely airy ambiance. The menu is notable for its pizza offerings with choices of base sauce other than tomatoes—truly a mark of a good pizzeria in the Neopolitan spirit. We had Del Bosque, a “forest” of lovely mushrooms and basil with parmesano in a mozzarella-pomodoro base. Then a Serrano con Rucula, Serrano ham and arugula, crisp and sharp! And then, Bianca, mozzarella base with spinach, arugula, mushrooms and bacon plus extra onions, black olives, and Serrano—it’s scrumptious! It’s a great luncheon😄

Certainly one of the two best pizzas my wife and I have enjoyed here in Cuenca, though perhaps not the very best. However, the very thin, light crust was very good and the balance of ingredients was excellent. (Anchovies and green 🫒 olives.) I was, however, a little disappointed in the quality of the olives, given the premium price of the pizza. I specifically asked the waitress if these were the typical olives out of a can or jar, or something more special. Though assured they were quite special, they weren’t. Meanwhile, the overall quality of service was truly excellent and the colorful, bright atmosphere that has been created here makes it a place we’ll certainly return to.

This doesn't look like anything fancy but this is absolutely the best pizza in Cuenca and possibly far beyond. The founder goes to unreasonable lengths to get the best ingredients for the pizza crust and it shows. The flavors are insanely good, try the artichoke and blue cheese or the burrata, you won't regret it!
Nathalie N — Google review
Cozy and beautiful place in a nice neighborhood, nicely decorated with attention to details. Parking is on the street, but there is a guy on a bike watching the cars up and down the street. The food is delicious, we were amazed by how fast it got to the table. The ingredients felt fresh and selected, the owner explained to us that the lettuce comes from a region where cold and warm air collide, which would give it a distinct taste. The pizza scores 10 out of 10, you will even want to eat the crust, the salad was richly flavored and all the juices had the right balance. Overall, great experience, nice clientele and environment, you feel safe and at home, the staff is friendly and quick to serve. Prices are very reasonable. A must-repeat for sure.

If you're on the hunt for a fantastic burger experience in Cuenca, look no further than Simple Cocina Creativa. This charming eatery serves up some of the most delectable burgers around, featuring generous portions and fresh ingredients that will tantalize your taste buds. Beyond their signature burgers, you can also indulge in a variety of sandwiches like pulled pork, shrimp, and chicken. What sets Simple Cocina apart is not just the food but also its inviting atmosphere.
Simple traditional, Juicy and filling burgers. The name simple cocina speaks to their burger style in my opinion. Simple and not too sophisticated, if that’s what you are looking for. (At least from the burger de Casa which I had) The meat portions were also very good i must say. The meat was also tasty as well. We tried the Tuesday special where you get 3 juicy burgers of the house, with fries for $15 dollars, which is great value for money. Would live to try their other burgers like the lamb burger which i hear is also good. Check this place out and let me know what you think. I also think they have other things on their menu but i have only tried the hamburguesa de casa

TL;DR - decent, but order medium cooked burgers Went for a late lunch; restaurant was about half full, service was quick, discussion was primarily Spanish. Plantain appetizer was surprisingly good; well cooked and in a thai-ish peanut and coconut sauce. Burgers were good, but inconsistently executed. Both were ordered medium-rare, but our ChaChaCha came out medium (and quite tasty) and our Casa came out nearly blue rare. With the Casa being on a portabello-bun (the GF option, which made it more like a Salisbury steak than a burger) it made the whole thing a liquidy mess. Also, the burgers come with a small portion of fries, so steer clear of the gratin-papas side dish (which is essentially soft fries with a cheese slice on top) The restaurant has potential, and showed it can execute well; it's just a little inconsistent. We will likely go back, but will lea. Toward overcooked than undercooked burgers.

For a three dollar lunch this place simply can’t be beat!! Such a pleasing atmosphere is highly unusual for an almuerzo is place, and this one is truly unique, with a nicely designed dining area overlooking a climbing/Pilates gym as a source of colorful and constant amusement. The almuerzos themselves are unusually generous in portion and taste fresher than those in many almuerzo places, prepared in a kitchen that somewhat resembles the trendy open kitchens of truly high end gourmet restaurants. In our three visits to date, the food has always been tastefully prepared. One of the three focuses much too much on potatoes for our palettes but the other two have been significantly above average and better than many others we’ve had at higher prices. The professional clientele and (unheard of) waiting lines to get in attest to the value to be found here. Returning again and again, we find this to be one of the best non-vegetarian almuerzo values, and consistently tastiest of the many almuerzos to be found anywhere within the vicinity of the historic district (though a bit removed), and certainly the best we’ve encountered in the El Vergel district. And now, after coming here time and time again for over a year, they’ve stepped up their game another notch, adding vegetarian and health-conscious “dieta” lunches. Today’s was superb: mushroom risotto using whole rice, delicious 🍏 apple and ripe red pepper salad, and a very tasty chicken roll! Having a “hanging yoga” show to keep oneself entertained only makes it more fun. (See photos)

This is one of the best places I tried in Cuenca while visiting. We tried the burgers and their ceviche, they were one of the best we were able to try in Cuenca, the atmosphere it is amazing and service went above and beyond with our allergies request. This would be the first restaurant in stopping by when we come back.

It’s a very pleasant dining environment BUT THE FOOD IS HIT-OR-MISS. *** The MENU also has very LIMITED SELECTIONS AND, based on food descriptions, many seems restricted nutritive value as it is VERY CARB-HEAVY AND LOW PROTEIN VALUE *** For what it is, the menu listings is a tad high priced. 🤩 Yua Bowl ::: a very good dish, legume-rich and flavorful 👎 “Falafel” Burger, WRONGLY CALLED HAMBURGERSA, which would imply meat content. * If the idea is to emphasize vegetarianism, then use the correct terms. DO NOT TRY TO DECEIVE. * The patty has the taste of garbanzo BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE THE FLAVOR OF REAL FALAFEL, which would have meant Mid-eastern spices like Za’atar or Sumac AND of course, some salt and pepper. * Worst, the patty it tepid almost cold temp, which means it is NOT FRESHLY MADE BUT SOME REHEATED PRODUCT. The ALMUERZO (they call it menu del dia) looks popular as it is inexpensive. 👍 The maracuya-Yerba drink is quite good, very very low (if any) sugar… this is tempered. 🫤Locro de Mote is flavorful BUT is CARB-HEAVY, both from the large amount of starchy choclo corn and the heavy verde plantain broth. 🫤 Salteado Garbanzo is flavorful BUT then there’s more garbanzo purée. This a protein-limited food. The red cabbage garnish is good, but there’s too little of it. 👎 Then there’s a very sugary, caramelized fruit dessert, which UNEATABLE…. why not just serve fresh fruit??? Service is spotty.

It’s nice to see a veg restaurant here that isn’t just fake meats. This place has a genuine vegetarian menu. I only had a buddha bowl, but what I saw on other diners’ tables looked tasty, too. If I lived here, I’d definitely be back!

We loved this vegan restaurant. Don’t be dissuaded by the previous review. The restaurant is tucked away in a quiet street and the decor is relaxed and upmarket. Everything is very clean. Staff were friendly and free WIFI was fast. The food was a feast for the eyes and taste buds. Our party had the three course indépendance day menu with natural ingredients from all over Ecuador. One of us had the Buddha Bowl fresh salad dish which was great. The hummus appetizer was outstanding. All dishes were well balanced in texture and taste. All ingredients were super fresh. Sadly they no longer had the felafel hamburger on the menu. Perhaps because the previous reviewer expected meat in a vegan restaurant and complained? It’s a shame. Some uneducated reviews need to be ignored. Their fresh fruit juices and kombuchas were also outstanding. Value was very fair for the quality and you can pay with a credit card. I’ve been a lifelong vegetarian (60 years) and travelled to all countries other than North Korea. This is one of the best vegan restaurants I’ve had the pleasure of dining in—certainly the best in Latin America. Panama Hats off to the YuA team!

Our first visit...a delightful and delectable surprise! Not only was the seating and minimalist but attractive decor welcoming, but so was the tasteful choice of music. As for the meal itself, it was excellent and exceeded our expectations altogether. We had the almuerzo, priced at $3.50, and were pleased with every bite (though we did notice that the lettuce wasn’t quite as fresh as we would have liked). The black bean soup starter was pleasingly balanced and included several nice vegetables, while both the zucchini tortillas and white bean and choclo salad both contained elements that elevated this meal almost to the level of a gourmet meal set in a suitably impressive environment. The fresh tomatillo juice (no sugar added, thank you!) and oatmeal peanut butter cookie treat to finish left us looking forward to our next visit. “We’ll be back!” After two months I can attest to the fact that Yua just keeps on adding new menu items and making their food even better!

SUPER disappointing! The staff were friendly BUT the food was really quite awful! I ordered a tuna panini but was given tuna in a hot dog roll that did not taste fresh at all nor was it toasted as a panini normally is! Maybe the other food they do is ok but would not recommend the tuna 'panini'.

The atmosphere is clean and welcoming, making it an ideal place to enjoy quality time with family or friends.
