Beer were amazing! Service isn't good BUT having only 1 server on the floor and 3 behind the bar is the issue. Our server was running around like a mad man while no one else helped. Suggestion would be to have 2 in the back and 2 out serving the patio/restaurant but still an amazing experience.

It’s this famous bar where they serve you beer in this really huge flask. And the other hype is that while they serve u the beer in this flask, they keep one of your shoe. And then return the shoe when you finish your beer and return the flask. Fun idea. Otherwise it’s a proper bar vibe.

Really great atmosphere, even on a Wednesday afternoon. The owners/staff are friendly and really good at what they do. Snacks were generous and really good quality (we had pate and cheese). Beer choice is off the scale. Really should be on everyone’s to do list.

I was in Ghent on a day bus tour, and we had a free hour before we left, and This is one of the places i went. -I came here for the shoe in exchange for beer tradition. -It was very busy, the inside was full, and you can only get the large 1 yard of beer inside, not on the pattio outside. -There was a line out the door, and i waited in line for maybe 10-15 min. -eventually i was seated, i was solo, so they added me to a large round table half full of people (4 out of 8), and they were a friendly group from amsterdam. -Soon after i ordered the yard of beer, they came pretty fast with it, and asked for a shoe in exchange. - I chugged the beer in 3 gulps. It was a little different drinking from that large glass, as the beer doesnt flow consistently from the shape. -Then i paid and left drunk and happy -The service was great, it was very busy, and they were running around helping everyone, but always had a smile on their face. I would love to come back here and get a booth in the back area

Beer was fantastic, the house beer Max van't Huis was great, the glasses were unbelievable! Tradition to give up one show was very good humoured. This is indeed a beer lovers MUST DO in Belgium. The menu for beers is endless, but brewery and alphabetically. But go for the Max 😎 Atmosphere was friendly, my "young adult" daughters were very comfortable, the clientele were mixed and inclusive, very friendly and family included. I would recommend to anyone and everyone.

Great, if odd bar. Went in years ago and we were the only ones in. Really busy (but still seating) in late May this year. Hanging mannequins are quirky. Buy a yard of ale and leave a shoe as a deposit for the glass

went during the Gent Festival and it was absolutely amazing! They had live music, an incredible atmosphere, and stunning views all around. I loved trying the local beer — it was so good! The staff was super friendly and the service was impressively fast and efficient. One of those spots that just makes the whole experience unforgettable. Can’t wait to go back!

Well located on the side of the river with great views across. An extensive section of draft beer, in this cozy wooden interior. There’s an outside section as you come in where a live band was playing. The urinals were made from old steel kegs.

Cool place with many beers and clean bathrooms. They don't let you bring food from other places. Could be very busy, especially if the weather is sunny. Nice to have a drink or two, but nothing fancy.

We sat down thinking there would be food...but there is not. What they did have though was an incredibly long list of beers available. I think it was a small book of about 10 pages. Admittedly, a little overwhelming for me. I had a Delirium and my wife had a Chimay. Both solid choices, but I don't think we could have done wrong here. With the canal right next to you, and a gentle breeze, it was an epic way to burn a few minutes before our castle tour.

September 2025: lovely place situated right above the river. The terrace was lovely. Great choice of craft ale/craft beer/Belgian beers. Service not so great! A older lady is quite rude. Tasters not permitted too. Maybe it's an English thing to allow tasters to make sure you're going to like what you're going to get. Not here though.

One of classics to visit in Ghent. Very nice place, just next to the bridge over the river. They make their own beers which I absolutely recommend. They are a bit stronger, and are limited to three per person, so drink reasonably.

This was amazing amazing experience. The staff were nothing but kind and welcoming. No ask or question was too much trouble. Our drinks were spot on and incredible 😍 Also the atmosphere was perfect for us, nice and chill and even packed out it was peaceful and not loud at all. Thankyou to the staff for making my first experience in Ghent a memorable one.

What a great little Gin Bar. The guy in charge obviously takes pride in his creations and never spills a drop when pouring his gins into your choice of measure.🍸🍹😊 I tried the caramel, the citrus, the honey, and others I can't recall. 🍯🍹😋 Fab place highly recommended. 👍🌟🥂

My sister and brother-in-law took me to ’t Dreupelkot to try authentic Belgian jenever, and it was a memorable experience. We tasted the Huisjenevers Korenwijn (42%) and the Caves St Amand Gent Borluut Oude Jenever (55%), both of which were bold and flavorful. The historic interior adds a lot of charm, and the dog-friendly policy is a big plus. However, the owner could have been more engaging, sharing some stories about the jenevers would have elevated the experience beyond just a quick pour and payment. Overall, it’s a nice spot to explore traditional jenever in a truly atmospheric setting.

Huge selection of Belgian beer and lovely staff. I’ve been here 7 years ago and revisited again. Nothing changed in a negative way. Just pay a visit you wont be disappointed

There are so many flavors to taste ! And they were delicious. Don't forget to sip before taking your glass so you don't waste any droplet from your drink =) As someone else said in the comments, the owner seems like a hard nut to crack ^^

A must for anyone visiting Ghent…..very quaint bar, small but compact…..lots of different Gins…..only Gins……every variety available, lots of different tastes…..you must try the chilli……. Worth going back to…..but beware its potent.

Pol is an absolute legend. My husband is from gent and while visiting we decided to stop by with my mother in law and it was absolutely the time of our lives I can’t even remember everything we tried but they were all delicious! The Advocaat was a standout! Pol is a tough nut to crack but the more you talk with him we cracked a smile out of him! Definitely an experience worth having. Thank you Pol, and I hope you find someone to continue your legacy.

Friendly staff, great prices, nice atmosphere! The only downside is that they smoke inside (mostly standing room, a few stools) there is outside seating, but I'm not sure if it's for this place or one of the other places. Lots of variety of flavors, small and large shots available. The man was kind to offer me a taste before selecting which I'd like. Definitely worth a visit!

We visited on Friday afternoon when it was not too busy and got lucky to be served by the owner who was super friendly, so we had a nice conversation about the place, about them making their own liquors and growing herbs. He recommended some of their signatures and we loved them. Cocktails were made with high-quality ingredients right in front of us, with lots of skill and the ice in my short drink was super clean. We will be back any time we visit Gent.

EXCELLENT cocktails. I had a Perfect Manhattan that was absolutely PERFECT and my friend ordered a Perfect Margarita which was also spot-on. Belgium isn't a big cocktail country so this was a great find on my last week here.

Good cocktailbar in Oudburg with original signature cocktails. Both inside and outside are a nice place to hang out. Tried their 1999, Herbie 53, Old Fashioned and Nitro Espresso Martini which were all good. Staff is friendly and skillfull.

Best cocktails 🍸 in town. I never order from the menu. Just let the bartender know what tastes you like/don't like. They will bring you the cocktail you didn't know you craved for. A cocktail from paradise that takes your tastebuds on a very tasty journey🤤🤤🤤

Lovely cocktail bar in the northern sector. Great decor upstairs having a distinctly 80s vibe - like you've stepped straight out of 'grand theft auto' - with music to boot. The staff were great and very friendly/ helpful, and there were nice little touches everywhere. Downstairs is really something special though, like a cool lounge - but.. the drinks throughout are not particularly exciting. In my professional opinion, they are not that well balanced, which is a shame, as everything else was brilliant here.. but still definitely recommended

Was craving for a cocktail while visiting Ghent during a storm. Did not disappoint. Had a negroni and a cocktail with a spanish-ish name, server told me that people didn’t know how to pronounce it lol, also had the dry sausage which was a pretty new thing for me.

Great place. This means: Innovative Drinks. Cozy atmosphere. Friendly bartenders. Can’t expect more from a bar. Highly recommended. Side note: the menu for the Baijiu week was mind blowing.

The BEST bar in Ghent! This place has an incredible beer list with some of the best Belgian beers I have ever tasted. My husband and I came back several days in a row because of the amazing service from the bartender, Violeta. She recommended everything we drank, and each suggestion was perfect. Her knowledge and friendly attitude made every visit special. I cannot recommend this place enough!

I can confidently say that this is the best bar in ghent. The choice of Belgian beers is staggering. Inside the bar itself felt comfortable and welcoming. Bar staff were very friendly were quite willing to help with what beers to choose. If you are visiting this beautiful city then please come and try this bar you won't be disappointed.

The most iconic beer bar in town. A visit to Ghent is not complete without having a drink here. Interior is incredible, the reason pubs are so special for a community, and on a beautiful day the outdoor seating can’t be beat. Great beer and great people!

This place is such a gem. No matter where you are coming from, this is the place to have a beer in Ghent. The classic bier cafe atmosphere is unbeatable and the owner and staff are so friendly and welcoming it feels like a second home. Not to mention it has one of the best beer selections in the city!

September 2025: amazing choice of beers! Great atmosphere! We had Kasteel Rouge and the new Kasteel Tropical. Trappistenhuis is situated near Schepenenvijverstraat, the Red Light District of Ghent.

Very warm and comfortable beer hall, obviously some great beers here. The decor is fab and the beer menu pretty extensive. Luckily it was very quiet when we went which was exactly what we needed for refreshments and snack food. Really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend. Lots of nooks and crannies to sit around in here, even a log fire

The bouncers at this club are the most disrespectful people I’ve ever encountered. Their attitude is disgusting, and I don’t understand why they’re even allowed to work here. They treat people like trash, and it’s clear this place doesn’t care about its guests. This club is not for humans—it’s for the lowest kind of people. The way they run the door is a joke, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Save your time and money; there are way better places to go where you’ll actually be treated with respect.

So, the music is with a lot of bass logically, it was nice BUT dont put your jacket on the hangers, only in the lockers(its 1 eur coin to use it, coin will not be returned) because my friend’s jacket was STOLEN😭

Really enjoyed this place, very nice selection of beers, and we had a couple of snack food plates to keep us going. Don't be mistaken.. not a cafe - as the name suggests (I think I read that it's one of the oldest places in Gent, and used to be more of a cafe), so food choices are minimal. Warm and friendly - good attentive staff, nice decor. Definitely recommended

Really nice and cozy place with a unique interior that hasn't been altered in character for over 3 decades. Normally groups of 2-4 people would come to enjoy a drink and chat. Very original, I like it a lot. Nice for casual going out for a beer in the week. You can also play pool and other group games available there, some of them really old :)

Came here because of the walking tour guide said it’s the best cocktail bar in town and I did buy in it since a bar inside a 5 stars hotel should have some stander. However as a cocktail drinker / alcohólico i have to say I am very disappointed. In usual, when I visit a new bar, I will order one old fashion as an index and one signature from bar’s menu. Which one first depends on the bar’s review. If it’s a random bar, I’ll do old fashion first; if it’s a good review bar, I’ll do signature first. Cocktail is a very personal thing, so there is a chance that signature I ordered may be not my thing; however a good old fashion is very stander: iced whisky glass, sugar cube (or at lest a real sugar not syrup), bourbon, bitter, citrus fragrance / essential from fresh citrus. And with one big ice cube. Don’t know since when to have a big ice cube in old fashion become first world issue. It’s actually very unbearable to see a hotel bar can’t make a stander old fashion. Signature one is okay, the description kind of miss leading me but I can accept it. Can try, but not recommend.

Great atmosphere and music. I love the personal approach for the drink and definitely the room is gorgeous together with the bar. The bottles are drawling to look at. Also the service was very nice any question was answered and they even showed the bottle to the table.

FABULOUS cocktail bar in the Post Hotel with views of the canal and the St. Michael's Bridge. Fantastic vibe, service, and they know how to make a Perfect Manhattan so I was very happy.

One of the nicest place to unwind and have a drink! Decided to come here as the sun was winding down. The cocktails were nice and they have a very nice selection of drinks and small food to have with. I love the vibe here. The place takes you back in time through its luxurious interiors yet it is never intimidating, even very cozy. The view by the water was nice as well! Would definitely come back!

Tim and thomas were such a nice guys, they brought such a good vibe to the bar. They made my whole evening. The drinks here are so nice, just tell Thomas your flavour pallet and he makes it just like you like it. 10/10 would recommand to everybody.

A new bartender is running this place now so we wanted to try it again. The cocktails are good, but also very expensive (€20+ per cocktail). The service was lacking, no real attention to the guests and inexperienced, however they do manage to point out the tipping option when paying. There are several cocktail bars in Ghent with similar quality cocktails, better atmosphere, more personal service and much lower prices. But for just a good cocktail it's okay.

I… am blown away by this place. Every cocktail was better than the previous. The staff was knowledgeable and charming. And I felt like I never wanted to leave. I spoke with Lena and she was SO lovely. She knew exactly what I wanted within a menu of many options! I will definitely return.

The atmosphere is very lively, family-oriented and chaotic, and temperature wise hot due to the lovely fireplace. If you want a quiet dinner, with attentive service, this is not your place. If you want all you can eat ribs, you’ll love it. They do NOT serve tap water 💧, which honestly, just p-sses me off, right from the start, so we should have just walked out then. We moved twice due to doors slamming into my daughter’s chair, the. We moved and again they tried to put us by the kitchen door—no thank you. We finally got a better table, and the manager was nice. I get you want to put a two top table in a corner but we are paying the same for a meal, so no. I would not return as It is not my type of dining experience. Others were clearly enjoying the ribs and experience.

Here's a helpful tip: arrive early and tell the staff that you want to sit inside, so that you can be served until the end. If you arrive early and don't say anything, you'll be seated near the entrance. Over time, they started coming to the inner area more often than the entrance area.

Everything about this place deserved a 5 star rating. The staff were accommodating, smart, funny and overall very professional. Ask for the indoor yard, it is very nice and cosy. We had a spareribs menu each and these were hands down the best ones we had eaten in years. Even the oven potatoes with rich sauce rival the best in Germany. 😉 Try their Irish Coffee if you like, it was very delicious. Good luck ordering dessert, after some ribs refill you might have to change that idea 😂 Thanks for a wonderful evening, when we return to Gent, we will definitely come back!

An amazing restaurant in Ghent with outstanding decoration. - taste&quantity: we tried mix grill and ribs both were great grilled and very good taste. Okay maybe i didn't like the steak so much but it was fine. In the ribs they have all you can eat policy so anyway you will not be hungry. -Price: if I remember correctly was about 24€ for ribs and 28€ for mix grill. Quite decent for all you can eat ribs -service: very polite and smiley staff and they bring food fast despite the crowded day. -Atmosphere: I loved the decoration of the place was amazing and worths definitely a visit.

The first rib came with the plate tasted good. Although it’s slightly dry, the sauce did the job. However, the refilled ribs were pretty dry, I wonder if those were pre-made then reheated to serve quickly. The sauce for potato is really nice. The staffs were very friendly. It’s a good place to chill with a group of friends.

If you every travel through Belgium and find yourself in Ghent, a must-visit is Amadeus. There are 2 locations Amadeus 1 is the original, since 1987. I’ve been here on several occasions and each time I experience the full package. Amazing ribs (ALL YOU CAN EAT) - my favorite is the dry rub, but there is 2 more options. Comes with a small salad and a BBQ potato and an amazing home made topping. Great and friendly service, cozy and quaint atmosphere. You can’t beat a fun or romantic or casual night at Amadeus. You won’t even finish your first rack and they will already follow up with a second portion if you desire. (Don’t food-waste guys, if you’re not going to eat it, don’t take it) or the food fairy will haunt you forever 😝 They have other items on the menu and all look equally delicious but … Like said worth a visit if you like ribs. You won’t regret.

We sat out next to the river and enjoyed some excellent Belgium ales and some delicious food. The outside area is a real sun-trap and it's really nice to chill and watch the boats go by. The service was friendly and efficient.

I saw this cafe on a walk from the other side of the canal and also while on a boat tour. What a pretty location to sip your favorite drinks. The staff is patient and friendly—totally accommodating in a way that makes tourists comfortable. I was lucky to get a table right by the canal.

Cute cafe tucked in away a little alley by the canal. Really pleasant to sit outside as it’s sheltered from the intense sun. They only have one cold caffeinated option (iced latte) on the menu and it’s okay.

Such a cozy spot to grab a drink by the canal. They have a wide variety of beers to choose from and it is situated in an excellent spot right in the center, yet it feels calm and peaceful. The bar has an excellent atmosphere with board games you can borrow and a resident cat!

Amazing!!! My gf and I had such a nice time here, trying kriek and chimay blue (first recommended by a walking tour guide suitable for someone who don’t drink beer, and second by ChatGPT). Both delicious options! Nachos came w homemade sauce with was sspiccyyyy so beware. Nevertheless such a cozy vibes with locals all around.!

Disappointing service for the price — not worth €82 per person. We were a group of five friends trying to enjoy the end of the weekend. Although we didn’t have a reservation, we appreciated being given a table with the condition that it would be available until 20:00. We arrived at 18:40, which seemed reasonable for a relaxed dinner. The service was polite, the food was fine, nothing remarkable, but nothing to complain about either. However, the experience quickly took a turn. At 19:52, while we were still waiting for extra fries we had ordered, we were told we had 10 minutes left at the table. We understood the time limit, but the tone was abrupt and unwelcoming, especially considering that several tables were still free and there was no one waiting to be seated. At 20:06, while still finishing our food, we were presented with the bill without being asked if we wanted coffee or dessert, or even being offered the option to move inside, which was completely empty at the time. If the restaurant couldn’t provide a proper experience within the timeframe, that should have been made clear from the beginning. At €82 per person, this level of service was simply not acceptable. We left with the feeling of being rushed out rather than welcomed, not exactly how you want to end a weekend with friends.

This restaurant came highly recommended by a shop owner and we ate here 2 nights in a row. The first night we did not have a reservation but I stopped in to ask about openings. The bartender was very kind and said we could come back for dinner and eat at the bar. The team was overwhelmed by a party of ver 20 people whose reservation was lost in the system. They did a great job managing the chaos and we only had to wait slightly longer than normal for drinks, food, etc. The second night we had a reservation and ate outside on the lovely patio. Good, fresh food and lovely wine. For the reviewers saying the price is high, we found Belgium in general to be a very expensive country when it came to meals. A highlight of this restaurant is that it is just off the beaten path. While there are certainly tourists dining there, it is mostly locals, which makes for a lovely experience.

Unfortunately a shim of what once was. Had the bavette, which was way overcooked ( asked saignant) , and it was sobbing in liquid. Unacceptable in this price range.. Good wine list, but the vintages were not the ones of the menu. :(

Good food, small portions, big price. It was the first time at this restaurant and I had a mixed opinion about the place, the food and their menu. They offer a small food selection with simple plates, some of them typical from the area. Their wine selection is very big, so I am sure you will find something you like. I already knew it was going to be expensive, but when I saw the food on my plate and I saw how much money I was going to pay, I had some regrets about my choice. Food was tasty but quite simple and certainly more expensive than in other quality restaurants. In some cases, prices have around 10€ inflation compared to similar restaurants in the area (I am not talking about touristic ones). Portions are small, so you are expected to take a first and a second or even a dessert. Otherwise, you will feel hungry. Be prepared to spend around 60€ without drinks or dessert if you choose for a first and a second course. As an example, we took a tomato salad (22€), mussels (19€) combined with "ribstuk" (39€) and pasta vongole (32€). Even if the food was very tasty, I found portions very small for the price you pay, so I guess this is the reason I can't rate with more stars. Even if they were friendly and the food was nice, I didn't find the price being fair. Do I recommend this place? Yes I do, but make the good choice. I would suggest selecting the pasta vongole but don't spend your money on an overpriced tomato salad, for example. If you are used to eat a lot or having big portions, this is definitely not your place. If you appreciate good food, you don't really care that much about quantity, and money is not a problem, please come to this place because food is very tasty. TIP: if you choose for meat, please, let the waiter know how much you want your portion to be cooked, otherwise they won't ask and you will receive meat in the way they like it to be prepared. Take a look at the pictures so you have an idea about their selection at the time of writing this review. By the way, don't expect a fancy restaurant. It has a classical setting but it is quite hipster. Dress code allows wearing everything (at our visit some people were wearing elegant clothes and other people were wearing training suits).

We enjoyed our dinner of De Lieve very much. It has an intimate and sophisticated, yet casual atmosphere. Perfect for a casual lunch or dinner but still with a touch of fanciness.

Food portion was ridiculously tiny. Paid so much for such a small portion! Come here if you can afford such exorbitant prices for subpar food! Look at the photo I am publishing in this review and ask yourself if you are willing to spend €40 on this steak. It came without any sides and to add bread was +€4 for a tiny 3 inch roll. Not sure why this restaurant even got 4 star review on google maps. After this meal we went to Carrefour and bought sandwiches because everyone was still hungry. SAVE on this restaurant that seems to be rationing food, and treat yourself to a feast elsewhere.

I've been to many Tiki Bars around the world and this is one of the best. Tom is an amazing bartender and puts a lot of care in every little detail of each beverage. If you're in Ghent, I highly recommend visiting this bar.

Friendly staff, the most amazing drinks with homemade ingredients, perfect tiki atmosphere, a must visit for anyone who likes a cocktail! Get a drink, buy some nice goodies and ask about the rum, its never gone!!

We visited last may but I totally forgot to write a review. Out of all the bars/pubs we visited in Gent this one was te best. The people working here are so fun and nice, they really enjoy working here. Also the Tiki decoration of the pub is spot on and really likeable. The cocktails are amazing! I would recommend the Zombie cocktail which get poured in amazing glasses. We even bought two of those glasses. The overall experience was just perfect and if I ever visit Gent again of would 100% come back here!

A fantastic tiki bar in Europe! Who knew such a thing was possible? This place is incredible. It really understands tiki. The décor is top-tier and rivals plenty of great American tiki bars. Everybody working behind the bar is friendly, and Bobby makes an amazing mai-tai. This has everything you need from a great tiki bar: It’s inviting and inclusive, a fantastic rum selection, amazing theming, and well made cocktails. My favorite place I visited in Belgium, and I would definitely return to Ghent just to visit it again.

My wife and I visited The Drifter, a cool and unexpected tiki bar in Ghent, Belgium. The decor was nice and the drinks were great. 👍🏻 I asked Tom to make me a Demerara daiquiri. He chose XM Special 12-year (excellent dry rum) and my wife had a perfectly made Mai Tai. Our next round included a Missionary Basil’s Downfall, which I tasted and think was the best drink of the bunch, and I had DrifterTom’s Grog. All were excellent. We really enjoyed talking with the owner, Tom. He is passionate about rums and is very knowledgeable. Great bartender and a great time at The Drifter.

Best Tiki bar in Belgium!! A must visit, especially if you like rum! Tom will guide you through a tropical voyage of exceptional and exotic beverages! Great atmosphere too.

Wonderful bar situated in a massive barge on the canal/river. Setting on the top deck or downstairs in a very cosy lower deck. Great range of beer to choose from. A must-visit destination in Ghent. We had sandwiches which exceeded our expectations too. Great bar

Former water faring vessel converted into cool bar, excellent place to have a beer/cocktail especially in the summers. Actually on second thought, the interiors are beautiful so should be a good place in winters as well. If beer is your poison de choix, you will be spoiled here as they literally have 100s. Least but not the last the staff are really friendly and helpful. Ps no payment through cards. Only cash or bank/app transfer.

Incredible location and ambience, on a boat! They have a large selection of beers with more than 10 pages. Not to mention they have amazing sandwiches and croques, and good coffee too.

This bar has a very nice atmosphere. If it’s sunny you can sit in the garden next to the water. They don’t have a very wide selection of beers, but the beers that they have are very good! I recommend to visit this place when you are in gent.

What a lovely place by the canal to absolutely chill and unwind. We went when it was starting to get dark. People were just chilling. I could have sat there for hours. As it transitioned from evening to dark, it looked even more beautiful with lights on in the canal. Loved the relaxed scene. We only had coffee so don’t know about food. By the way, the server who took order was such a crook: coz he knew we were not checking the prices n just blipped with Apple Pay, for the 2nd order, he charged me double 7 euros for a coffee which was only 3 euros. When I realized n asked him, he retuned me the money in cash, but what a shame thing to do. Never knew that could happen too in Europe. Shameful act. So be careful Otherwise a must go unwind place. The other side of this place got out to the other street which was another name of the cafe

A great atmosphere for young and old alike, until the early hours. There are outdoor seating areas both at the front and at the back. The service is very fast, and the atmosphere is very student-friendly.

We had the pleasure of trying some of the oldest Belgian beers and tasting a variety of unique brews. The cosy, snug atmosphere made it a truly enjoyable experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which added to the charm of the visit. A wonderful spot for beer lovers! 🍻

Beautiful space, with heart and soul. The owner and host is a lovely woman and makes the tastiest homemade liquor. An absolute must see and be for drinks in Ghent! Completely romantic and fully candlelit, with soft, classical music on the radio. You can stare at it for hours. It serves mainly wines, coffees, liquors.

I visited this lovely place this evening and am absolutely charmed by the atmosphere, the fantastic drinks, and Ms Betty herself. The sangria was delicious and the liqueur d'Amour was quite nice. There is a small room inside and a small garden outside, both of which are perfect for a quiet drink with a date, a few friends or alone. There was no electric lighting, just candles all over, but this just helped give Rococo a relaxed and welcoming feel. Betty just exudes joy and kindness. Do be aware that cards are not accepted, only cash. However, it is well worth visiting an ATM first if needed!

This is a place to visit! Is it especially beautiful? - No! Is it very stylish? - No! Is a place to see and to be seen? Definitely not the later! Cafe Folklore is potentially the last independent Volkscafe in Gent. You can get Jupiler and Stella from the tab. The owners are a lovely couple that have been in the trade for ages. The interior is unique and real. And when you are lucky they are just serving kroakemandels as a snack with your beer - a true and rate specialty from Gent. Sadly - these kind of places hardly exist anymore and will be gone in a couple of years. So enjoy it while it lasts and definitely pay Cafe Folklore a visit. P.s.: One day I visited together with my 6 year old son - Marina - the owner - just had her lunch - she shared her fries with my son! That‘s nothing you will ever experience in any vegan hipster instragram coffee joint!

A great themed beer pub with trolls. They have a huge variety of beers to choose from. You'll find something for every taste and color. It's a fascinating place. The bartender will take you on a tour of the world of Belgian beer.

You can not visit Belgium without trying Belgian beers. I was completely lost when looking at the menu, it was like hundreds of choices haha, luckily I did not make a bad choice at all, what a shame I do not have such a variety of choice like this back home in Ireland. September 2025: one of the best bars in Ghent. Really enjoyed a couple of hours here. Service was very friendly! Prices were cheap and we even had Sandemans Fine Ruby Port! The Jazz Band was good, lots of as lib and honky tonk. We had great seats at the back on high tables near the window, inside.

Got white Russians here on a random week night. It was during their summer break (was here in early August) so we did not hear live music, but it was still plenty busy and a good atmosphere. The long, narrow wall to get to the true entrance makes a nice photo.

Lovely little bar, but not easy to find since it sits down an alley way. Very appropriate for a jazz club you might think? Biggest disappointment was no live music. I'd read about this club before travelling to Ghent and was really looking forward to an evening of live music.

Fun bar, too bad the waiter is so rude. He forgot a drink, then brought us a wrong order and tried to blame us for not noticing it was the wrong beer. Went off on us because the table was in the wrong place (we never moved it, it was already there). Do not recommend, this guy has ruined our evening.

One of best tap menus in Gent, and certainly the best Lambic menu! The stylish interior and inviting bar area encourage you to stay longer than maybe planned. Slick helpful staff, comfortable bar drinking and don't forget to try the dried sausage...one of the best I have had in any bar. Large waterside terrace during fine weather.

One of my favorite bars in Ghent. It's spacious and has a nice, cozy ambience; they also have a pool table and a patio. The beer list is of a decent size, and they also offer "beer of the month" ("bier van de maand") for the price of €3 (or 2 for €5!), which is a bargain. The staff is very friendly. I once left something there on a Saturday night, and they got back to me Sunday morning even though the bar is not open at that time.

A cavernous place. It seems popular with large groups. We didn't do the tour as it wasn't taking place on the day we visited. We settled for a taster tray of their ales, which we enjoyed. It's a good way of finding one you like.

Ghent Gruut Brewery is a great place to visit, located just a short walk from the city center. The atmosphere is welcoming and the setting has a unique charm. They offer seven different types of Gruut beer, each with its own distinct flavor. During my visit, I noticed a beer tasting group enjoying the variety, which added to the lively and social vibe of the place. A visit to this brewery is definitely a fun and flavorful experience for beer lovers.

We had a nice visit to this local brewery. A select few beers on tap. We tried the Wit and Inferno. Cool spot. Staff are great…. Super passionate and knowledgeable. The beer is ok.

We visited the pub in October 2025. The surroundings of the "brewery" were very untidy - tall grass, full garbage cans, rubbish lying everywhere. Nevertheless, we entered the brewery, where the waiter refused to serve us. Probably because we were tourists. The local population was immediately served. We had no choice but to leave.

Beer is okish, only the blond is good. But the waiters there... one of the barrels was over, he told us to wait for our 2 beers, no problem we say. Then the guy starts pouring one beer of that type (white) with the back against us FROM A BOTTLE. When he came I ask are both from the tap? Yes he said. Lyer. Also the flavor from the tap and bottle was quite different, which says a lot about the consistency of the beer. Avoid

Great discovery in the heart of Gent. Super friendly staff and great beers. Don't miss the Drifter's Ale, a NEIPA style ale infused with herbs from the shop opposite the bar. Also the Double IPA is very likeable

Lovely place! Family friendly, nice vibe. They have chess too. Beers were great. The quadrupel was my favourite but we shared 2 tasting paddles between 3 and we all preferred a different one - we just let the barman choose. Highly recommend!

Coming from London where we have quite a big craft beer scene, I was still quite surprised with this small brewery. The beer was really tasty, the atmosphere was nice and cosy, the music was on point(great taste really) and the staff was super nice. We even got some restaurant recommendations for dinner. We ended up coming here twice.

Wow, what a great bar. But not just a bar a microbrewery. We loved drinking here not just because if the great beer but also because if the friendly staff and their brilliant playlist. If you like great beer and and great sounds don't miss out on this bar.

Best beer I had in Belgium and a Iovely space. I believe the owner/brewer is a woman which I think is awesome. I highly recommend if you are a craft beer fan and love IPAs, stouts, and saison.

The place offers beers brewed on the spot, so even beer lovers can still find new ones to try and enjoy ;) We especially liked that you have the possibility to have a "degustation" option, with 4 12cl tasters. One of the most memorable experiences of Ghent, for sure. The place, the owner, & the cat were quirky and full of character. Plus, delicious beer. But 1. the inside was trashed and did not smell good – so we sat outside since it was a nice day – and 2. 18€ for a 75cl beer is way too high, no matter how delicious or nice of a beer. It was worth it for the story and would recommend stopping by, just know what you're getting yourself in to – he's basically taking advantage of tourists & travelers. Maybe ask him the price of the beer before he opens it and try to talk him down.

The place looked like a great spot for a drink. Owner also seemed friendly... Unfortunately he deliberately overcharged us for the beer: 6 euros for a beer that in Brussels costs no more than 4. When we confronted him with it, he just quirky smiled and said nothing. Shame to say but this place is either for owner's local friends only, or a scam for everyone.

At first, we found the place nice, peculiar but/and so nice. We wanted to get a beer, and the owner offered 2 big bottles without bringing the drinks menu. We were confident. Apparently two much. Beers were good ones but without anything special. Except may be the price: 16€/bottle. We are quite sure the price was not the good one, just a price given to tourists who do not ask for the menu before ordering... Not a place with and for honnest people.

The owner rips you off on purpose. On first sight it looks like a hidden gem, but owner takes full advantage of the fact that you are a tourist, puts large bottles of beer in front of you without showing the menu and then charged 16 euro for a seasonal beer. Even the neighbor came to us with crips and apologized on behalf. But you can tell he is uncomfortable with it because he doesn't looks you in the eye when we paid. He just pushes his luck and apparently it works fantastically, because the place was packed. The place is also very filthy and he looks very, unhygienic with yellow toe nails. Please don't go there, it's a dishonest place.

Stayed till closing time and argued with a seemingly random person about if Frank Zappa or Jim Morrison is sexier. We paid the guy 36€ for two 75cl bottles which is quite steep, but then he bought us beers in a different bar with the money I just handed him. Weird night.

This is very likely the best beer bar in the world. A truly unique experience. I promise you have never seen anything to compare it to. Reviewers complaining about price, cleanliness, service, or anything else simply don't deserve the experience.

A great place to bring kids. It's about 13 euros (less if you're a resident or child) to enter, but it also includes an audio tour which was helpful and made the experience more enjoyable. Kids younger than 12 are free. The view of Ghent from the rooftop is lovely, and it is interesting to see the Mediaeval halls, torture chambers, toilets etc. the audio tour is 30-60 minutes depending on which version you choose (short vs long and comedic). A must-see if you visit Ghent!

A must-visit in Ghent - the castle not only looks amazing from the outside, but is really fascinating on the inside too. You don’t need to book beforehand if you have a free and easy day in Ghent - show up, get a ticket with a slot in an hour’s time or so, then come back for your slot (we even did the river boat tour while waiting). There is a free audio tour and I highly recommend the “humour” one - it’s really funny, entertaining, yet shared a lot of interesting history about the castle. Its an excellently designed audio tour (probably the best I’ve done), and the castle itself was fantastic too. The view from the too of the Castle overlooking Ghent is great, too!

Quite busy on the weekend but totally worth it. Your tickets are valid 10 min before the official admission time. Take an audio guide, there is a comedic version that was a nice touch, even if a bit on the nose at times. It's also great for kids, as long as you keep them off the ramparts where there's no railing.

Absolutely incredible, so much amazing history. Includes audio guide in the entrance price. So sureal to just walk around and soak in the history. Quite a few narrow step stairways but worth the climb for a beautiful panoramic view.

It was really amazing to be in a castle! They also give audio tours that you bring with you. Learned what it was like in the castle before. Really liked the souvenir I got too these 2 coins. Book in advance cause there are only certain times people can go in and last entrance is I think around 4pm.

Beautiful example of a period castle. While largely empty, the audio guide was quite informative and well produced. I recommend the hour-long 'comedy' audio guide tour, as it has a good number of stories to talk through the history and design of the castle. I went with my three boys (ages 12, 8 and 5). They all enjoyed the visit, though I didn't get an audio guide for the younger two.

Definitely book your ticket online, otherwise you risk a long wait in line. The audio guide, told in a playful, comedy style, makes the story both adventurous and thoroughly enjoyable, with colorful and witty touches throughout. The castle is beautifully maintained, and the visit is easy to follow, taking around an hour and a half. Comfortable shoes are a must for going up and down the stairs. From the terrace, you can take in — and capture — some truly gorgeous views of the city.

Enjoyed this experience. Have been here many years ago, so it was very different. For something different, we tried the AR for of the Mystic Lamb and actually really enjoyed it. Glad that it was on display as it was recently restored. The cathedral is beautiful in its own right even if you don't want to do the tour.

St. Bavo’s Cathedral in Ghent is breathtaking! This huge, old church feels grand yet peaceful inside. The tall ceilings and colorful stained-glass windows are stunning. The highlight is the famous "Ghent Altarpiece," a beautiful painting you can’t miss. It’s amazing to see such history up close, though there’s a small fee for the altarpiece area. The cathedral is free to enter, which is great. Walking around, you feel the weight of centuries of stories. It’s not too crowded, so you can enjoy it calmly. The mix of art, history, and quiet vibes makes it special. A must-visit in Ghent for sure!

our tour guide promoted the Van Eck altarpiece as the premier attraction of Ghent, so we wandered over and ponied up the €16 each for the artificial reality headset for 60 minutes rather than just the Lamb of God 25 minutes for €12.50. Felt worth while - it does indeed have fantastic detail, so yeah

Beautiful cathedral full of history and art! Right in the heart of downtown, totally worthy, beautiful pieces and good lighting. Shame that is treated more like a museum than an actual church, due to the lack of Catholics attending services.

This is a must see place! Don't miss to do the VR tour in the basilisk. You will learn a lot and it's well invested time and money. The altar is an absolute cultural, historic and artistic highlight.

St. Bavo’s Cathedral is right across from the Belfry of Ghent. At night, when the lights illuminate the ancient buildings, the whole city radiates a romantic atmosphere, and the scenery feels like stepping into a postcard, perfect for slowing down and taking a leisurely stroll.

This is a must see in Ghent. The Ghent Altarpiece is absolutely breathtaking and I would argue one of the greatest artworks of all time. I highly recommend doing some research on it before hand to truly understand and enjoy this complex and beautiful artwork. I loved how they set it up so that you can see the back panels. It is well worth the trip.

The Belfry in Ghent is a must-see! This tall, old tower stands proudly in the city center, offering amazing views from the top. Climbing the steps is a bit tiring, but totally worth it for the stunning sights of Ghent’s rooftops. The history inside, with cool exhibits about the city, is really interesting. The big bells and old clockwork are fascinating to see up close. It’s not too crowded, which makes it a peaceful visit. The entrance fee was covered by the City card, and there’s an elevator for those who need it. I loved the mix of history and beauty. A quick visit here will make your trip to Ghent special. Highly recommend checking it out!

Worth the Price for the views alone, but you also get some nice history and to watch the Bell mechanism work (3rd floor). It goes off every 15 minutes and is very cool to See! Agree with other Reviews that the stairs are a bit treacherous so beware!

If the price was half of what it is now, it would worth a visit. I saw online that I could learn about the stealing of dragon between cities in the tower but it was just one paragraph. There are only 3 levels inside, 2 of which are bells and carillons. I highly recommend people take the lift up and walk down - the spiral stairs are really narrow. If you have large feet (more than 38), you need to put them sideways on the steps.

You have to buy a ticket in office under the stairs. To reach the top you take an elevator, way back is stairs. On way back you can stop om third and second floors to see the bells. Views from the top are fantastic, but just beware, platform you walk on quite narrow, so one person can walk at once. You walk 360* that's it. There is no place to pose for pictures for too long! And please don't. You are not alone ;) Was €11 worth! Would recommend!

SO MAGICAL!!! We went to the top and the view is incredible!!! I felt embraced by the medieval atmosphere and learned so much about the history of Ghent! The carillon documentary was so insightful! I had the opportunity to see bells hundreds of years old!! The staircase was like a dream!

It’s a climb but worth it. The weather is such in the Belguim summer that the town often looks sad and grey, but you can see for miles around. There are rooms full of bells to look at on your way up. Catch them on the half hour or hour to listen to them close up.

The panoramic view at the tower top is fantastic, however the passage is really narrow, suggest to visit very early in the morning when it’s less crowded

My first stop in Ghent and it couldn't have been a lovelier experience. The cafe was quiet when I visited on a weekday and there was plenty of seating, both inside and outdoors. I ordered the belgian waffle as I'd really wanted to try an authentic one, and my goodness, it was heavenly! Very soft, light and not too sweet! Although they offer a variety of toppings and sauces, I was more than happy to enjoy it in all its glory with some simple icing sugar and cream. They make their waffles fresh and it was served within minutes. The two gentlemen who served me were very welcoming and made the experience all the more pleasant. The cafe also serves breakfast, pancakes, sandwiches and the other type of waffle (liege). Would definitely recommend a visit here. Edit: I returned to try their croque madame (grilled ham & cheese sandwich, two eggs and salad). For €17, it was a little pricey for what it was, but still tasty.

A cozy and friendly café! We ordered Brussels waffles – really delicious, crispy and light so you don’t feel too full. The vanilla coffee and hazelnut coffee were also great. Left feeling very satisfied to having a good breakfast!

Stopped in Caffe Rosario for lunch on a different day, after trying to get a sandwich the previous day at about 3pm to be told they were out of bread so they were no longer serving sandwiches. With that said, my food was really good and the guys behind the bar put some love into my large Italian sandwich. The focaccia bread sandwiches tend to be more expensive for whatever reason and are heated. They also serve ice cream, breakfast, waffles, and some treats.

Caffè Rosario is a fantastic spot! We ordered the prosciutto sandwich—fresh and tasty—and the Belgian waffle topped with bananas and drizzled with chocolate, which was absolutely delicious. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made our visit even better. Perfect place to grab a coffee and a sweet treat. Highly recommend!

We stumbled upon this spot while looking for a Bailey's coffee one evening, and after checking out the menu online, we knew we had to give it a try. The food was so good that we ended up going back the very next night! The portions are generous, and everything we had was warm, hearty, and full of flavor just like you'd hope for with Irish pub food. The vibe of the place was equally lovely: cozy, welcoming, and full of character. We had some pub classics like bangers & mash and fish & chips, but the real stars were the starters. The dirty loaded Irish chips and the nachos with beef were absolutely delicious—packed with flavor and perfect for sharing. Oh, and we did have the Bailey's coffee—rich, creamy, and the perfect treat to end the meal. The Guinness on tap was perfectly poured and smooth, just as it should be. We definitely recommend this place and will be back again for sure!

I went there with a friend that lived in the outskirts of Ghent for 30 years and wanted to try this place since the beginning. So it was a discovery for both of us. We weren’t disappointed. The service was very friendly. The soup of the day was out of thus world (the waiter couldn’t tell me what it was, but i never had such good soup of the day). The smoky vegan burger (eggplant based) was great as well. My friend had the ribs, which were terrific, he said. We both drank a Guinness — of course :) definitely going back when in Ghent.

This is a great Irish Pub in Ghentt. Service was very nice and caring. The ambiance perfect with great Irish atmosphere with music and various artifacts in every corner. It's a long deep restaurant all the way in the back with a good patio outdoors seating. I ordered the fish and chips. Both were crispy and fresh with a great tartar sauce to go with. Well cooked. Highly recommended. Restrooms available. Will come again.

I found an Irish gem in the heart of gent and I couldn’t be happier. They have a spice bag on the menu which is such a tradition back home in Ireland. It was so lovely to see it on the menu along with other traditional dishes. Very big open space with lots of seating. Perfect for a family day out or just a quick bite to eat. Terrace is lovely on a sunny day. Very reasonable price for the portions size that you get

Service was really friendly and welcoming. Have never really eaten irish food before, but it tastes pretty good. Came here from the recommendations on reddit. Ribs were rather tender, nicer parts were on the fattier side. Had a sweet sauce on it. The other side of the ribs was not as good. The flemish stew with guinness was pretty good too. Could taste the guinness in it. The stew was also pretty flavourful, just hoped for more pieces of meat for the price point. Fries were nothing special, but they provided mayo. Overall a rather good experience (just a bit pricey for us, but i dont think its considered pricey in Ghent)

We used to live in gent and this was somewhere where we could have a nice meal. Tonight they were busy and managed to fit us in which was great. We ordered 2 of the smoky vegan under the burger category. To be blunt the fries were ok but the 'burger' was inedible. It seemed to be just chili on a bun, impossible to pick up and eat and tasteless. Stay away from this meal it was 40 euros of disappointment. This is not a burger. On and the server was disinterested and checked out, didn't care.

A fascinating journey through the history of modern day psychiatric care based on a model of compassion. This doctor was groundbreaking in his opinions of treating patients with love of compassion and an environment that promotes healing. He designed this facility with their care in mind. Staff was helpful in the museum, insightful. Easily accessible by tram. This museum is covered with the Ghent city card if you decide to go to several of the cities attractions over the course of a few days or a single day.

I read the reviews for this museum, which were very divided with one star or five star ratings. So I hoped it was more five-star. The building was beautiful and you could still see some of the original features from when it was an institution. But, I didn't enjoy the art installations, many of which I couldn't relate back to mental health at all. Working in this field, I appreciated the small number of exhibits based on the care of people with mental health needs but in all honesty, unless art is your thing, I wouldn't visit if you are wanting a medical history experience.

I checked this out during my visit to see my boyfriend in Ghent. I have always been fascinated with mental health and psychiatry. This was an amazing experience to read about the history of how mental health has evolved. It was also amazing to read the stories of the past patients.

The Guislain Museum in Ghent opened in 1986 and is dedicated to educating the public about psychiatric care, a bold agenda for a museum located inside a psychiatric institution. Dr. Guislain championed the rights of the mentally ill and devised plans for dignified and humane treatment in 1828, when patients were still chained. The museum hosts exhibitions of work by mentally ill people (for example, the second photo shows a mentally ill person trying to make a map depicting Central America, part of South America, and Cuba). There are also exhibitions that examine how we connect to each other as humans. In addition to the temporary exhibitions, the museum houses three permanent collections: (1) a comprehensive exhibition on the history of psychiatry, (2) a catalogue of photographs of people with mental disorders dating back to 1860, and (3) a collection of foreign artists. The history of psychiatry records ancient treatment, from the ancient Greeks and the Eastern peoples (from the trepanation tools of Hippocrates to exorcisms), to the present era of psychotropic drugs. The museum also has a small collection of medical models related to psychiatry. The photo collection is based on photographs taken at the institution since the middle of the last century. Finally, the collection of foreign artists contains paintings and sculptures by self-taught artists from all over the world. Special mention deserves a section of the museum where reference is made to female hysteria and the means of dealing with it. These are the last two photos of the post. Those who read them were truly surprised and burst out laughing.

I was expecting more. Though there are gems ( sigmund freuds journal, original Rorschach's, lobotomy kit) it was lacking. I wish it had more tools and things they used as treatment. I wish there was more information on how the asylum came to be and more info on Dr. Guislain. I had to wikipedia it (even with the paper booklet they give you). I just feel there's so much potential for this to be a fantastic museum! It is easy to get to by tram, drops off and picks up right in front.

Amazing place to visit, covering the old ideas of mental health to some great pieces of art work from former patients. Lots of info in English as well Lockers so you don't have to drag bags around and the cafe in the courtyard was very good value

Amazing and beautiful museum. This is definitely a must-see in Gent! It kept us hooked the entire duration of the stay. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn about the history of mental health.

I love the place nice ambiance. My food was great, but the food of my bf was average. The food is quite good for what you pay. Nice place. When the weather is good, you can sit outside for extra nice sightseeing around the beautiful city.

**This review is for the bar, not the restaurant.** This bar was impressive. Very clean and organized inside. I happened like other patrons to enter it thinking it was the Cafe Des Arts, which is next door. But I stayed – I had two beers and a conversation with the bartender, who was exceptionally friendly and interesting.

I love coming here. The atmosphere is always relaxed, partly due to the old building with its timber structure. The food here is intentionally simple to make because they serve a lot of customers from Ghent opera across the street, these come out in waves after performances. My favorite is the steak in peppercorn sauce, which they even serve in kids' size (a lot of older patrons at the opera can't eat gigantic portions). Of course in season they have the typical Belgian dishes like asparagus or mussels.

We went here with 6 people and were greated really well. We had a reservation but still had to wait about 10 to 15 minute until our table was ready. We ordered about 15 minute later. The service wasn't always the fastest, but we didn't have to wait long either. We chose some appetizers to eat while waiting for our main course. They were well prepared and were rather good. Our main course was rather basic looking, but it was really tasteful. Really enjoyed my meal. The vegetarian suggestion was mainly cheese, and not a lot of vegetables. The cheese to vegetable ratio was not good. So not really recommended for vegetarians. The price was not the cheapest, but for the meat the price was on point. I've seen people getting refused because they had no reservation. Better to make one if you want to come eat here, it is rather busy. Toilets were upstairs, so it is not accessible for people with wheelchairs. You could enter the restaurant with a wheelchair, but it wouldn't be easy.

Nice, cosy place. I had the steak with sweet potato fries which were both very tasteful. Recommend!

Neat restaurant across from the Opera. Food is always good, get the white asparagus when it's in season. Be mindful that sometimes a hamburger is indeed a ham burger. Cool decor with the hops on the wall, a favorite place to eat when in Ghent.

SMAK (Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art) in Ghent is super exciting! It’s full of modern art with bold colors and wild ideas. The exhibits change often, so there’s always something new to see. I loved the quirky sculptures and thought-provoking paintings. The museum is spacious and easy to walk through, with clear signs. It’s not too crowded, which makes it nice to explore slowly. The staff are friendly, and the entry price feels fair. There’s a cool vibe that makes you feel creative. It’s perfect for anyone who likes art that’s different and fun. SMAK is a must-visit for an artsy adventure in Ghent!

Contemporary museum with two exhibitions up at the moment - one on each floor. It provides an excellent opportunity to get introduced to some big names in the Belgium art scene. I also found the installations especially interesting. My only issue was the pricing - I had just come from the extraordinary STAM Museum with an 11Euro ticket price and was surprised that SMAK's entry fee was 19Euros.

Surprisingly contemporary with a focus on young local artists. The collection is housed in a large building allowing art to breathe and its numerous visitors to enjoy the space. The cafe on the ground floor gets busy on weekends for good reasons. It’s a tasty place indeed!

An interesting modern art gallery. Lots of different styles and the main exhibit was all by Belgian artists, which was very unique as you don't hear of many Belgian artists on the world stage, so it's nice to see their work all together. The pricing is a bit odd: perhaps too cheap if you're 25 or under (id needed): €3,50 and then a little too expensive if you're older: €18. Gift shop didn't have the nicest pieces of art in the gallery represented at all which was a shame: it had the usual problem too of charging a lot of money for very simple things such as postcards. Air conditioning in the gallery was hit or miss meaning some rooms were unbareably hot and others a perfect temp. Information about the pieces was generally very good and the rooms were large enough to move around in. Some unusual choices with awkward stairs to certain areas make the gallery slightly less accessible than it needed to be. Overall, very good, and a nice activity in Gent.

One star for each of the artworks I actually enjoyed. Overall it felt pretentious and not worth the €18 per person, would have been happy to pay €10 for what we got. The explanations were poorly placed or not present at all, and the artworks aren’t understandable for the average viewer. The first guy we approached at the front desk ignored us but the lady next to him who sold us the tickets was nice

Very good local restaurant serving among others traditional dishes. The place is modern and clean, but it may become noisy in the upper floor under the roof. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Large groups are welcome.

Had a great dinner here. For starters we had a baked Camembert and cheese crochets. We enjoyed both but the Camembert to share is really nice to share. I would not get a second starter with the Camembert. It is noted as for sharing on the menu but we also wanted to try the cheese crochets. They were great too. We also had the salmon and the meatball dishes. They were good but the starters stile the show. We had local beer which they have a good selection of but did not get dessert as we were completely full. Do get a reservation if you plan to dine here.

This is a beautiful restaurant and clearly seems to be popular with locals. I found the food too rich and the portions too big (boudin blanc as a starter and the pork tenderloin for my main). I really would have liked to have made my dinner from a selection of their starters which sounded very appealing to me e.g. their tapas plate with the charcuterie and cheeses, their bruschettas, and their spicy cauliflower and mango chutney but they have a rule that you MUST order a MAIN no matter how many starters or tapas you order. And I understand why they might have this rule but in the end this wasn't the best experience for me.

We travelled around Belgium for over a week and found this restaurant on the last night and it was by far our favourite meal of the trip. And in fact a meal I won't forget in years to come. It was so lovely to see wine and beer recommendations with the food on the menu, which helped us chose from a large selection available. Would recommend you try the salmon, it was unbelievable - one of the nicest tasting salmons we've ever had. The service was brilliant, again the best service we experienced during our trip. Food was well paced in terms of timing and no pressure at the end of the meal to leave as we were stuffed and needed a break. Really wish we had found the restaurant sooner on our travels as we would have eaten here again! P.S thank you for humoring us with the salt blocks - we are very excited to use them on our own BBQ!

The chicken cream dish was little salty but good and the cheese cake was really delicious and so so so sweet. The beer Omer was super nice.

We enjoyed our evening here and appreciated especially the setup in this former destillery building. Overall I found the price value ratio on the rather high side and a bit too much focus on economics. With mains like veggie curry or pasta going for 25-30€ I was surprised to hear they are charging extra for ketchup to your side-dish fries. Not so much about the 1€ itself but rather annoyed by the gesture.

Quality of food was very good and the service was welcome but a bit slower than expected during the busy hour. Decoration inside and specially the underground is very interesting. Different types of beer are available to order through a catalogue.

We had amazing Flemish stew, steak and herbed butter, and Belgium burger. All were prepared very well. A lot of beers to choose from also. Comfortable and great service from Maggie

We loved this place, that's why we went 2 times. The food is really good and the bier menu is amazing. Definitely we will come back. The staff is really nice and prices are okay. Definitely recommend.

September 2025: Balletjes in tomatensaus met frieten, en Curry van zoete aardappel 🤔😂. Meatballs in tomato sauce and Sweet potato curry. They were both delicious. Top marks for the food. Loved the atmosphere and decor of the whole place. Fantastic selection of craft beers/craft ales/ Belgian beers. Downstairs was where all the barrels were stored. Great to see. Toilets however were disgusting, full or fruit flies and needed a good clean. Apart from that, well worth a visit to Bier Central. Not the cheapest establishment, but the food was outstanding!

An extensive beer list spanning a full encyclopedia, with a long draft list (but the majority in bottles) means there is a beer for anyones taste. The flemish stew was really good, comes with frites and a small salad. Only complaint is that it is pretty expensive for the quantity of food-- 27 euro for a plate meant it was 70euro for dinner and a beer each for two of us.

A vast choice of Belgian beers both on tap (33) and in bottle (more than 333). Also a decent choice of foods for dinner, even if it is not the strongest point of this place. Service is not very fast if you order food... Overall an enjoyable experience and a good mug!

We arrived not knowing what to expect, sat down and told we would be seen by the proprietor shortly. Ip Man arrived and was the perfect host . The food was delicious and beautifully presented , and full of magnificent flavours. The wine( recommended by our host) kept flowing and we felt like we were having a private party. Nothing was any bother and all our interesting patter was dealt with in a very polite and friendly manner. We would all recommend anybody to go and experience this lovely experience and have a wonderful time at The Panda restaurant

Nice cozy place and you're also welcome to only have a drink, coffee or thee. Staff was friendly and their organic coffee is nicely presented (see photo). Very smooth, silky blend. The hidden gem is their canal terrace, but also their front view is adorable. I'll another review when I have a chance to eat here, but I already highly recommended it solely based on their coffee, presentation, staff and overall 'feel' of the place.

Finally, a restaurant with the right ethos! Eco friendly, organic and proud. Innovative dishes on the menu and everything here was of great quality, including the service by a very charismatic waiter. There are good vegetarian options on the menu, however I tied the traditional Waterzooi (fish soup), which was full of flavour and came in a large pot to keep it warm for longer. Wonderful setting right by the river with gorgeous views. We were lucky to get a table outside, and when the sun went down, we were handed out blankets to keep warm. Such a thoughtful gesture. A true gem in Ghent!

I do not like to give bad reviews to restaurant. I respect the work of others too much. In this case I make an exception due to the ridicolously high prices vs. food quantity/quality. The food is not bad, not fantastic either but it is ok. But the price is faaaaaar too high. Almost all main courses are around 30 euros, but what you get is worth maybe 15. Overpriced.

Wonderful place beside the river to enjoy my beer. It’s difficult to find on the Main Street as you need to go through a corridor beside a organic supermarket. Everyone can find it easily when you are on boating.

Delicious food and really nice ambient.

A canteen style vegan buffet restaurant. The food was fresh and tasted good, including lasagna, savoury tart and coconut curry. Salad is also available, and was very tasty. I feel good after eating it because it is locally organic and completely vegan. The food could have been warmer, it is moderately priced (€3.10/100g), and the atmosphere is just like a canteen, but overall it is good and I'd probably go back if in the area.

A very nice place to eat next to the railway station! The homemade food is delicious, the concept is great, and the staff are friendly. It’s also a kid-friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend trying their homemade lemonade!

Very kind staff. Nice atmosphere. And very tasty food. It can be a bit pricey but then you can define that by how much food you put on your plate. I put the equivalent of a started and large main on my plate. Plus a beer €27. I left satisfied after arriving hungry.

One of my all time favourite cafes when I go travelling!! Has a great jazzy vibe, quality coffee and some baked goods! Think they serve lunch too but I did not get to try!! Check it out. You won't be disappointed!! Love how in Belgium your coffee typically comes with a piece of chocolate or biscuit!! 🥰🥰

Good ambiance and music throughout the shop. Plenty of seating. Very friendly waiters/waitresses. Good choices of non-dairy milk, no extra charge. The coffee is a more fruity and acidic roast, which is unfortunately not to my preference, however, it is one of the smoother fruity roasts and not too aggressively acidic.

This coffee shop in Ghent has a really cool design, bookshelves and a cozy, creative vibe. We had some really good coffee there, and the space itself just makes you want to hang out and enjoy it slowly. Definitely worth a visit if you’re into good coffee and nice interiors.

This was a great coffee shop for relaxing, getting some work done, and it looks like it gets busy at night and turns into a fun bar scene . What I love most is that in the day, when ordering the tea, it comes not served in plastic packaging but in a metal filter (apparently teabags will leak micro and nano plastics at an incredibly high rate when exposed to heat). We loved the atmosphere here and highly recommend it for a coffee, tea or late night drinks

As a cafe and bar, it’s a cute place. Looks like it would be fun to meet up with a friend and hang out. They have a pile of board games you can use too. But as an actual bookstore, I’m not sure how you would find what you are looking for as there is no organization to the books. No English books.

Cavernous brewery bar situated about 30 mins walk from the city centre. Huge range of draft beers (in all styles) with DOK brewery ones very reasonably priced. Three different food vendors on site all with online ordering. The 11.5% Salted Caramel Bourbon Aged Imperial Stout went down exceeding well with the wife. Very busy on a Thursday night

We really enjoyed visiting this brewery. While we didn’t try the food or do the tour (which looked great), the brewery itself was very impressive with plenty of seating. The beers tasted good, though the oyster stout wasn’t quite to my taste! Prices were fair, and although there was a bit of a wait at the bar due to it being slightly understaffed, that may have just been the day we visited. Definitely worth the visit.

Very cool, trendy place to have a few beers and something to eat, with a nice ambiance and friendly staff (thanks Alex!). I really recommend the beer float, great to choose 6 beers to taste, and the BBQ food is excellent. I had the pulled pork burger and fries and some pulled pork croquettes, which were delicious. Great atmosphere indoors and also a large outdoor seated area.

Went there on a beer tasting tour with some friends from all over Europe. It was one of the best experiences we ha that was made possible with some great traditional Belgium made beers, a great enthousiastic tour guide and some great food afterwards as well. Definitely recommend going here.

Fantastic place, bar, restaurant and brewery. They have test flights of 6 smal glasses. Very cool interior. A lot of seats in and out side. Had pizza and beef rib, both very good.

Sought this place out during our Ghent visit to get to try more modern day Belgian beers. We were thrilled we made the trip. The location is a bit of a walk from the center of town & through an industrial area so just be aware. We never felt unsafe, but it's not touristy. The set-up in an old warehouse was so familiar to great brewery set-ups in the US. Their beer list is extensive and coming from a 'beer guy'.... inventive and interesting. The beers I had were great. The BBQ looked interesting but we opted for the pizza. We ended up ordering it at the pizza station as we couldn't figure how to find pizzaq using the QR Code. They didn't mind, but be aware that it's an option. **Bok Brewing?? When will you be distributing to the US? You're doing great stuff!!

The atmosphere in the food hall was great, nice vibes, modern stylish setup. Food was ok, I liked the BBQ place with their sausage and grilled cabbage, my daughter had a burger and that was mediocre. One of the reasons I went there was the craft beer, and I was a bit disappointed. Dok Brewery has an impressive number on tap, the Sfeersporn session IPA was fruity but also a bit on the sour side as had been some of the other beers I tried, the rye IPA, the Fisherman’s Wife. I only found the Nelson De Zeehond IPA tasting as expected for an IPA.

Cool place nearby the center of Ghent. A place to go beyond the touristic attractions. Interesting offer of different type of food and locally brewed beer. I loved the pita with beef at the grill!

Tried 12 kinds of beers with hops and others with herbs and spices By Dok Brewing Company with cheese and sausage on the side. My favorite was the Dimi De Pooh - Belgian Quadruple. Had a caramel malty flavor and very light body considering its alcoholic strength 9.4% 🤩

Love love love this place! Not only do they have around 30 craft beers on tap (well actually, a few taps are reserved for other stuff, like an amazing cider), they also have the best BBQ food in Flanders. Brisket, beef ribs, smoked fish etc with amazing side dishes too. On a nice day you can sit outside at the long picnic tables and just enjoy :)

This really deserves a recommendation. Or maybe not, so there will be more space when I visit! Fingerfood and beers! So many craftbeers, hard to choose and too many to drink all of them. Food is maybe a little bit expensive, but good. When the weather is great, you can sit outside in the shade or the sun. Just a perfect spot.

Perfect location to hangout with your friends or family. Drink some special craft beers from the DOKBREWERY brew pub, eat some pizza or pasta from OFFICINA RAFAELLI, or eat a burger from BOEF or some smoked meat or vegetables from ROK. All located in Hal 16. In the summer you can sit outside on the terras. Easy parking below building, get 1 hour for free when validating your ticket in the pub. We love this place!

We were a party of 4 with 2 babies in strollers for dinner. They were extremely accommodating and relaxed about this situation and super helpful throughout the night. Very attentive service, fantastic food, and great roomy space with a cozy atmosphere. We tried all the dishes, and would recommend every single one. Biggest surprise was the fantastic leek dish. We loved our dinner, thanks a lot :)

Loved this place. A picture of it came up in my Facebook memories from a year ago. I'm sure the staff there don'tremember us, but my gf and I sure remember them. We'd had supper someplace else, but it was such a lovely evening that we wandered through the city until we ended up here. The staff were very sweet and accommodating. We got a couple of negronis. Even though it wasn't on the menu, the young woman at the bar made them for us anyway (we had to tell her how). It's a great place for a drink in the late summer after a day of tourism.

Great bar we encountered when walking to and from our hotel into town centre. Always busy with a good vibe, off the usual tourist route so mostly locals. Great place for a late night drink as it stays open pretty late. Recommended

Not too loud. So you can still get away with a decent conversation with your date. The usual popular suspects on tap: hoegaaerden, delta ipa, stella. Super Fair prices too. Bartender was nice and spoke perfect English :-)

Restaurant based on sharing dishes. Unfortunately 2 of the dishes we would like to try were sold out (they said its be ause they work with fresh product for the day, so limit availability). The cuisine is fusion between asian and mediterranean and is undeniably very tasty. I wish that the portions were a bit larger though. Service is very friendly and willing to help with the menu. Recommended!

Overpriced Mexican tapas with an Asian twist, that's how I see it. Relatively good service, but slow food service on a Friday evening. Nursed my drinks till it's almost out and we have yet to get half of our tapas plates out, and had to cancel whichever hadn't started cooking. The chicken popcorn and croquettes were good, and the oysters were yummy but a bit overpriced in my opinion. Pork dish let us down as it was soft pink in the middle instead of a consistent colour throughout. Had to send it back to the cook to redo it (and only the 2 pieces sent back got returned, should have sent the third on my plate), and the server tried to explain that "it was how it is being cooked". Beer is served in wine glass instead of typical beer glasses. Can get noisy inside, and makes it a bit to talk. It seemed more of a place for gathering than for a date night.

Cool “hidden gem” restaurant on the outskirts of Ghent. Open 7/7 which is a plus nowadays. They have a “tapas/sharing” concept with multiple small dishes to enjoy a lot of different flavours. I especially enjoyed their take on patatas bravas, the octopus taco.🐙 🌮 & the lobster 🦞 arancini. They also have an extensive cocktail/drinks manu worth trying. Highly recommend this place.

As the name would lead you to believe the menu has some spice, but, this is definitely not a Mexican restaurant. My ribeye came out quickly, garnished with a spicy pico de gallo, a nice touch. Cooked the way I like it. Maybe a pinch too much salt. Not as large as I had hoped. So I ordered the Broccolini, which came with a cold bean puree, and a small crumble of peanuts. This worked quite well. Finished with an espresso. Plenty of interesting cocktails on the carte, but I didn't imbibe. The owner was quite personable. The clientele was subdued. Reasonably priced.

Good food in a nice place, especially in summer with terrace open. Even have a club in weekends. Food is very good and high on flavour. Another example of good entrepreneurs in Ghent. Not their first business and I thinknalso not their last. Also the drinks are really good.

Me and my friends had a cocktail here. Espresso Martini is delicious! Restaurant was packed on a Saturday evening so call for reservation.

Went here on a Tuesday evening, was pretty quiet which was nice. Food was rather excellent. Prices feel a bit on the high side initially but the quality more than makes up for that in my opinion. The pear and lemon curd dessert was rather outstanding and an excellent way to close off a very enjoyeable evening. Other dishes that stood out: the spicy feta brulée, patatas bravas, the cheviche, the yaki squid. All very well prepared and all very flavourful. Highly recommended essentially.

Great selection of beers, excellent service, nice music. Not too crowded even on busy nights. Must visit if in Ghent.

Great bar with a huge selection of beers on tap. I have never seen so many on tap anywhere else in the world. Good rock music, not too loud, and many rock decorations. Very nice and knowledgeable staff to explain you the different beers. Highly recommended if you like beer and/or rock music.

60 beers on draught with many more in bottles in a place surrounded with rock and roll memorabilia! It doesn't really get much better does it. A fine Belgian beer establishment 🙌

This is a real, old-style rock pub with excellent decoration, great music and a huge variety of beers (60 on tap and many more in bottles).
