Nestled in the heart of Lubeck, Bei Ulla is a beloved local establishment offering traditional German cuisine and a wide selection of excellent beers. This popular spot is frequented by both locals and tourists seeking an authentic German pub experience. The friendly and attentive staff are always ready to greet you with a smile. Specializing in the classic currywurst, this venue also offers delectable schnitzel options including pork and turkey.
We went there twice while in Lubeck. The Schnitzel was fantastic, both the pork and the turkey. Service was great the first night because the server was happy to speak English to us. The second night the server said “no English” and didn’t seem to want to deal with us. Great food, but you better know some German.

Pork with toast was something new for me but I liked it. I especially liked the mushrooms that came with it. The kid’s meal had salad together with it which is something we never got from the other restaurants.
Service was good and food waiting was reasonable. Also, no extra payment in using their toilet.

Recommend this old school place in city center. It's not on the tourist radar, more for locals. Mostly meats, but also some soup, salad and dish dishes. I has currywurst. Service a little slow, but its a small place so it's ok. Dogs welcome inside and out. Friendly staff.

Dietrich's is a great place to go for drinks, brunch and dinner. They have delicious cocktails, wine and beer and the staff is always welcoming. The bar can get busy so reservations are recommended. There are also some nice outdoor seating areas where you can relax in the summer.
I only came here for two cocktails, but they were both delicious! One was the Condesa, which was shockingly smooth and tasty.
The second one was a bit more special, made with Danish Dill Aquavit. It was delicious, had a unique story/concept to it, and was expertly made by the man behind the bar.
Great selection of spirits and a seemingly unending menu of options, as well. Perfect spot for a great cocktail in Lübeck.

My husband and I went here to celebrate after our wedding and were so happy we did. The staff was super friendly and greeted us with sparkling wine. The cocktails were great. Reminds me of my favorite cocktail bar in the US. Thanks again!

Excellent and knowledgable bar keeper! Made our night. Great explanations and even a special creation based on a description of a flavour profile. You forget you are in Lübeck, and you could be in London, Hong Kong or Tokio!
Ideally located on the west of Lübeck, by the unmissable bridge Holstenbrücke, this tiny bar catches your eye by its beautiful décor and atmosphere.
Seating at the bar, you can see the personnel cares and values quality and precision when assembling the drinks.
I had four different cocktails, going various directions in terms of flavours and ingredients, and every one of them was excellent and showed subtlety in the way the flavours are brought together. A short conversation with one of the barmen proved the passion and willingness to further develop knowledge and recipes.
This cocktail bar is an obligatory stop. And they speak English btw.
Very cool, competent and friendly staff. They know much more about their Gin and all the other offerings than expected. Realy a great place to be and to have a couple of drinks. Thanks - See you next time when we r back to lovely Lübeck

I had the most discriminatory and offensive experience at Strandsalon in Lübeck on 13/07/2024. My friends and I, who are foreigners with darker skin tones, were not allowed entry into the club simply because of our nationality and skin color. The bouncer gave us the ridiculous excuse that the party was only for police and fire brigade members, yet he allowed in all other people without question.
This blatant discrimination is unacceptable and completely unjustifiable. It is disgraceful that in this day and age, a business would openly discriminate against customers based on their nationality and skin color. I would strongly advise against visiting Strandsalon if you are not a member of the police or fire brigade and do not have a fair complexion, as apparently they are the only ones welcome at this establishment. Discrimination based on nationality and skin color has no place in society, and it is truly disappointing to see it practiced so openly at this club. Stay far away from Strandsalon if you value inclusivity and fairness for all individuals, regardless of their background.
wanted to watch the football european championship there.
prior to the game we called -to aksed if the game we wanted to see would show. -that was confirmed that they woul show it.
As arrived they switched the screen between 2 qualification games .
so the would not show a normal whole game but every 4 -5 minutes they showed--changed to an other game. for me as a footbal fan I could not follow a normal Total Match.
On request they would not adjust the choice to show it.
so me and the team of fans I watched it with we left.
1 star because on the investigative call - 1 day before they said ---"jawohl we show it. " and NO they did not show the whole match .
also only 1 bar open.. with a waiting time of over 5 minutes to get your -drinks- beer. for me bad experience !!

Great location for a beer in the sunshine
The halloween party here had two DJs, which one clearly was better than the other. Drinks were reasonably priced and almost half the people there were in costumes. We had a fun experience there.
A nice place to chill and relax but also a place to dance and have a great time, good food, good drinks, good price. By far one of the best places in lubeck

Good music, nice interior, acceptable prices. You'll usually find quite a crowd in front of the entrance on the weekends, but with a bit of luck you can oftentimes also find a place to sit inside. Very popular with college students, so prepare to see mostly people in their 20s and 30s.
Nice pub for young people/students with affordable beer. The only problem was the pub being very crowded. Standing outside with a beer with friends was fine too.

It's a good place. I was recommended to go there by my local friends. They have a good selection of craft beers. And traditional meat dishes. I had the schnitzel with mushroom sauce. I'd be happy to come back, especially for the beer.

The initial welcome from one staff member was not so warm as we didn't have a reservation, it felt like we were an inconvenience. We sat happily in the beer garden, lucky to be under an umbrella and out of the rain unlike some other tables. Once seated the food, drink and service were good.
A traditional pub with good kitchen in the center of the city. The staff is untrained and uninterested. We were served beer twice as the waiters are not coordinating their work. The basement is touristy with replicas of historical objects. The kitchen closes at 10. No food after that. Small garden but lot of places inside on 3 levels.
The waitress was the best, the food was very, very good. I would definitely come back. The restrooms were clean, as was the rest of the establishment.

A good place to try delicious craft beer and national dishes. Be prepared for the fact that the dishes are very large, the waiters are not too hasty and the kitchen closes about 1.5 hours before the establishment closes. prices are normal.
A popular bar, recommend to book in advance. Food is ok but not exactly impressive. The goulash soup was quite salty. I have a feeling that this place is understaffed as it takes ages to get the waiter.
We have been coming here for the last 15 years. Over the years the quality of the food has been declining. This time was the worst. The schnitzel Wiener Art was really dry and almost looked like is was not home made and some of the fried potatoes were not even cooked through properly. All of us were really disappointed. This was the last time we will visit unfortunately.

The cafe Celona is located by the old docks and it has a great view. The service is usually friendly, but the noise level can be a bit high. The food is good, with especially the burgers and lasagna being particularly recommended.
Great breakfast buffet for at very reasonable price. We paid 17 Euros (plus beverages) per person for the buffet. Extremely nice location right by the water and cool interior design

The chef is VERY nice. He showed us to the table, dried our seats after the rain and was so nice as to bring out the dish the waitress obviously forgot about. And the food was good, the cocktails tasty.
Was there late for drinks with group. Beer tasted like water, cocktail selection was poor and the ones we got wasn't worth drinking.
Unfortunately a terrible experience. Waited a long time to order and when the food then finally arrived it was only for one of us at the table. We assumed the other dish would come shortly after but no. After waiting for another 15-20 minutes we then asked the waiter where our food was. She was surprised but claimed it wasnt her section and refered to another waiter that she had to ask.
After another 5 minutes she said she couldn’t find this “Anna” waiter and instead of just claiming some responsibility she asked us to go inside to pay as we had now asked for the bill because we didnt want to wait no more.
We ofcourse explained that we did not want to pay for a dish we never received which was okay but at no time no one ever apologized for the poor service.
The overall experience was ok, the Food and drinks took too much time to arrive, and drinks and food either should arrive together or close to each other here is not, food arrives and drinks come 20mins later. The food quality is just fine not something outstanding, except the prices that are outstanding high.
A bit disappointing for the first item on the breakfast menu, which was basically the free breakfast option you may get in cheap hotels. The tapas were not bad, however, and the seatings do have a nice view over the water.
It was an amazing atmosphere and a very tasty breakfast buffet. The mocktails were also great.
Its a cozy place to chill while you are exploring the city. The food we have tried were delicious.

Awful slow service. We waited 1 hour and 30 minutes for our food! Ordering time before that was additional 15 minutes and we were luckily fast because the menu list was already at our tables. However, the restaurant was only averagely visited at this evening. The waitress informed us in advance about "an expected waiting time of 45 minutes"...
Also to be mentioned, the local people seemed to know the long waiting times and thus only ordered drinks and smoked outside directly next to our table. As a non-smoking group this was annoying.
We definitely will not come back here and cannot recommend it if you expect to leave soon again. The food was okay and the portions of average size.

Stumbled upon this Italian restaurant while walking through the Hüxstraße in Lübeck. But. Big surprise awaited us inside. The restaurant has excellent ambiance and very open seating arrangement. At the time we reached it had most tables vacant. The staff is very helpful and guided us well. The food is tasty with big portion size. And yes, the rates are really very reasonable.

Not impressed. The same dishes can be found better and cheaper elsewhere. To be fair, the pasta dish was fine - but overpriced. The other dish, the potato dish was sad. We waited a long time to get the food. Who seemed to be the non-working owner of the place’s friends were seated at the table next to us - we arrived shortly before them and they managed to get and finish their dinner before we got ours. On a positive note, the outdoor area seems cozy for a day with better weather. But we’ll find another place next time.
A isolated cozy restaurant in Hüxstrasse. Where you can escape from the crowd window shopping people. The cheeseburger was very nice and the portions were decent. The employee was friendly.
We randomly walked into this restaurant, and since we were very hungry, we were pleasantly surprised. The portions were very filling and the price-performance ratio was excellent. Also, the Turkish waiter (a man) took great care of us, and we would like to thank him especially.

We waited almost an hour for our food. We asked about it, and the waiter went to check. Two minutes later, he came back with the food, which was almost cold. A boring pizza and a carbonara made with loads of cream. The place itself is cozy, and our waiter was actually quite friendly, but he seemed very busy. We were very disappointed with the food and the lack of service. We noticed another couple sent back their food and left, and other customers were also waiting a Long time for food.

Food is overall fine, it's pub food not fine dining. A few local beers and a few national ones on the menu.
All in all, nothing special but overall OK.
Dropped in at nine in the evening on my way to the city center. Live music. Attentive friendly staff always on top of things, despite the very large number of guests at the outdoor tables. Homemade meatballs were quite nice.
A nice place to enjoy a lovely view of the river and the gates of Lubeck. Have a beer and a snack and watch the world go by. Fortunately it is out of the crush of the city center. Staff is charming and low key with no problem working in English.

Lübeck is a pretty city and Funambules is a relaxed place to have a nice beer or other drink on the terras. For food as well, but be on time as the pandemic has taken its toll on the menu.. Anyway staff are really forthcoming on this, very nice!

Tonfink is a popular cultural venue with great food and drink prices in the center of Lübeck. At night, it turns into a hip bar with live music.

This historic gem of a tavern established in 1697 in beautiful Lübeck in Germany received its name Buthmann’s in 1898. The nostalgic interior of the pub remains unchanged over the centuries. While they serve many types of alcohol, the selection of draught beer they offer is exceptional.
The City of Lübeck can get really cold, thankfully the interior of the pub is warm and cozy. It is easy to spend multiple hours at a time here. The staff members were very friendly and courteous. Ralf, who attended to us was so cheerful and competent. The staff seemed to know almost all the customers. Even the customers themselves were a bunch of great people. There was a quiet Bachelor party happening at the corner table (see photo), some individuals sat by themselves drinking beer, and a group of ladies were chatting and laughing at another table. Everybody greeted everybody and spoke to each other as if the whole pub was one big happy family.
This is how all pubs should be. My wife and I, along with our friends from Lübeck, had a fantastic and memorable time at Buthmann's.

This is my favourite pub in Lübeck. I'm coming back every time I visit the town. I'm always drinking Löwenbräu Triumphator. Fantastic to find this beer here.

We spent an evening chatting with a lovely woman and her dog. Conversation ranged from music (hard rock to classical) to anything but politics (thank god). The dog didn't contribute too much to the conversation but was good with belly rubs.
Beer and liquor selection is great and prices look like a local place far farther from the city center - but I expect you Americans to remember that you are here as guests and behave like you are in someone else's living room.
