Museum Holstentor is a fully restored Medieval gate in Lubeck, Germany, which now houses a museum dedicated to the city's history. Dating back to 1477, this iconic Gothic-style gate marks the western end of the former Hanseatic City and is recognized as one of the most visited sites in the country. The gate features two rounded towers and a block in the middle that appear as a single structure from one side but can be differentiated from another.
Beautiful, historic, serene place to walk around. Lots of transport nearly, you can get here but a bus or the main Lubeck central station is about a 5 minute walk only. Recommended..!

The Holstentor is such a wonderful landmark which luckily survived to the modern age. The inside holds a nice little museum with different themed rooms and also a rather beautiful model of the medieval city.

A must see in Lübeck and a beautiful entrance to the old town. The Museum is small but also worth a visit if you have time.

Night visit was great time to get photos without ppl dressed in red☺️

Unique experience. I would definitely recommend especially if you are from outside of the EU. There were lots of interesting artifacts inside the museum. There are lots of steep, winding stairs inside so if you have mobility issues, you wouldn't enjoy this.

Marienkirche, also known as St. Mary's Church, is an elegant Gothic structure in Lubeck that dates back to the 13th and 14th centuries. It is considered the mother church of Brick Gothic architecture and was the first to adapt the Gothic cathedral style using local brick. The church suffered significant damage during World War II when it was almost completely destroyed by RAF bombings.
I visited Marienkirche in Lübeck, Germany. The church is astoundingly beautiful with impressive architecture and great views. The entry fee was 4 Euros, but the experience is absolutely worth it. It’s a great visual treat, though there are no toilets inside. This is a must-visit place in Lübeck, and I highly recommend it!

The architecture of this once church is beautiful. The copper roofs were exquisite as Germans moved away from wooden roofs.

Marienkirche St. Marien-Kirche Lübeck - Ev.-Luth. Kirchengemeinde St. Marien in Lübeck is a beautiful Protestant church in the city center, very big that you can enter for a fee or if it’s for prayer 🙏🏾 is for free! Totally recommend it! The lady in the entrance was super nice!

Saint Marienkirche has surprised me a lot! It's really amazing & great from inside & from outside!😍The ticket is 4€, but during a church service you can go inside for free.

life changing. the most beautiful building I have ever seen. and I have visited a lot of churches. though under renovation and with a pained past, this is a must visit for Luebeck. donations to the space are requested in the amount of 5 euro, and worth every penny. grandiose, colourful, full of life and death and it is all captivating. the organ concert I caught the tail end of nearly caused me a stroke - in a good way.
Arty B — Google review
Amazing monumental church with a lot of other interesting things to see inside. I think it worth the price of admission (4 euro). It's a must see if you visit Lübeck and you are interested in history and architecture.
Alex S — Google review
Marienkirche is the third-largest church in Germany, and one of the five large Gothic brick churches in Lübeck. The interior is stunning and learning the history of it was so interesting. During an air raid, a lot of the church was destroyed but it's been beautifully restored. During my time at the church, they were restoring another facade as well. There is a reconstruction of the Danse Macabre, and also some beautiful reliefs of the Last Supper and some statues of Mary, Gabriel, etc. I'm a huge fan of Bach and I was delighted to read that Bach may have come to Marienkirche to play the now-destroyed Totentanzorgel (Danse Macabre organ). I believe they also have services in Marienkirche, although I went on a weekday so I'm not 100% positive. Based on signage, I would say so. I recommend stopping in to learn about the history of Lübeck and the church, or even to sit in on a service! I'm going to come back perhaps to see the other four churches.
Siobhán W — Google review
St. Mary's Church which was built between 1250 and 1350 is the third largest church in Germany. It and has always been a symbol of the power and prosperity of the old Hanseatic city. Entrance is ticketed, 4 eur per person but it is without doubt worth to enter and see its magnitude from every corner inside.

Salzspeicher, located in the picturesque city of Lubeck, is a collection of Renaissance-style salt storehouses built between 1579 and 1745 along the River Trave. These iconic brick structures are a testament to the city's rich trading heritage and Gothic architecture. Originally used for storing salt, an important food preservative and trade commodity, Salzspeicher now stands as a historic site showcasing its towering red brick exterior.
The Salzspeicher in Lübeck are indeed a must-see! These historic Gothic-style warehouses, located along both sides of the Trave River, were once used to store salt—a key commodity in the Middle Ages that helped Lübeck flourish as part of the Hanseatic League. Their distinctive red-brick architecture is a stunning example of Gothic design, and strolling by them is completely free, making it a perfect stop for visitors. Highly recommended for anyone exploring Lübeck!

Lübeck’s medieval architecture is stunning, with its famous red-brick Gothic buildings and narrow streets. The Holstentor, a well-preserved city gate, is a key highlight. You can wander the old town for free, exploring churches, quaint shops, and cobblestone streets. Depending on your interest, you could spend a full day here exploring the city’s rich history and beautiful architecture.

This is a collection of 6 old style houses. All were refurbished and the skinny one is of most interest in that the windows are all sagged. Very interesting.

Very scenic and photogenic spot in Lübeck! The warehouses used to store salt a high commodity during its time! Make sure to cross the river for best views!
Virginia L — Google review
These mediaeval salt storehouses on the Trave River's banks are magnificent examples of Brick Gothic architecture; a salt storehouse is a true architectural gem! Originally, enormous amounts of salt were stored here, which was used for food preservation and as a significant commodity in commerce. The houses, constructed between the 16th and 18th centuries, stored salt mined near Lüneburg and carried to Lübeck via the Stecknitz Canal. The salt was then shipped to a number of ports. Salt was of tremendous economic importance to Lübeck during the time, contributing greatly to the city's prosperity. It is a tourist destination, and the town is surrounded by gorgeous architecture. There are many cafes, restaurants, shopping malls and so on. Lübeck has a beautiful and picturesque landscape! Salt warehouses were used to store salt, which was a valuable commodity at the time! Make careful you cross the river for the finest scenery! If you are visiting Lübeck, be sure to stop by the stroll area, where you can wander around and explore the attractions while also enjoying refreshments. You could also go boating. You can also have coffee and go sightseeing. There are plenty excellent restaurants and bars nearby where you may enjoy some delicious cuisine. I highly recommend!!!

These historical salt storehouses standing on the banks of the Trave River are impressive examples of Brick Gothic architecture, which is characteristic of many buildings in Lübeck. With their imposing facades, tall gables, and numerous decorations, such a salt storehouse is an architectural gem! Originally, large quantities of salt were stored here, which was used for food preservation and as a significant commodity for trade. Salt was of great economic importance to Lübeck at that time and contributed significantly to the wealth of the city.💚! PS. On the opposite shore are some great cafes, there you can wonderfully while enjoying a drink🍺☕🍷, for example, these salt stores quite cozy in sight...

The salt storehouses are six historic brick buildings on the Upper Trave River next to the Holstentor. They were built in the 16th–18th centuries and they stored salt that was mined near Lüneburg and brought to Lübeck over the Stecknitz Canal. The salt was then shipped to several ports in the Baltic region.

NOSFERATU!!! Apart from being beautiful, the place means a lot to those of us who are lovers of horror movies. Wismar and Lübeck are famous on a cinematographic level because the movie NOSFERATU (year 1922) was filmed in these cities. So, as a result of its 100th anniversary, I wanted to know several places where the film was filmed, and in the case of Lübeck, I started with the old salt warehouse, a place with Gothic / Baltic architecture, and very important between the 16th and 18.

Drehbrücke, located just a short walk from St. Marys Church in Lubeck, is the city's oldest and most significant bridge. Dating back to 1892, this historic structure features a unique design that allows it to operate using both wheel and hydraulic swing mechanisms. While it was initially used for both rail and road traffic, Drehbrücke now exclusively supports vehicular transportation after undergoing changes in the 1970s.

(Translated by Google) Paying €20 for a day ticket for a simple parking space is pretty steep. No water or waste disposal, not even a toilet, and the spaces so narrow that I was lucky to find a neighbor who was just as short as me, otherwise I wouldn't have even been able to pull out my ladder for my roof tent. And just a short time before, it was free at night and €6 during the day. I wonder what the people in charge were thinking? Clearly, the most important thing for a property is its location, and apparently the same goes for a parking space. That's one of the only reasons I stayed...

(Translated by Google) Lübeck's old town is certainly much admired and of historical significance – one should just be careful not to block up the beautiful open market squares with stalls or McDonald's cubes. The old town is losing its luster, and the side streets could be more than just snack bars. I think soon there will only be day tourists here. The many cars also seem a bit chaotic. There needs to be a good parking garage in the old town. (Translated by Google) Despite the destruction of World War II, part of the city has remained almost intact. This makes Lübeck one of the few German cities that retains a large, original historic core. Many architectural additions since the post-war period have been coherent, and the result is a beautiful city that, making a virtue of necessity, has harmoniously blended the ancient and the modern. We were particularly struck by the modern architecture, which, following a design rooted in the historic layout, beautifully adapts to its historical essence. Excellent examples can be seen in the revitalizing Fischstrasse neighborhood, at the foot of the imposing St. Mary's Church. However, there are some distortions in pure Brutalist style, right in the historic center. A shame. A gentle city surrounded by water, but one that should be explored on tiptoe, with respect, especially when wandering through its more hidden alleys. Its hospitality should not be overused, and unfortunately, we encountered groups of very noisy, rude, and shouting tourists among the private homes.

The Mühlentorbrücke is a stunning example of ornamental steel bridge design that graced Lübeck before the ravages of World War II. Constructed between 1899 and 1900 during the development of the Canal, this bridge features elegant finials atop its towers, which are adorned with decorative lighting. What sets it apart are its unique structural elements: prefabricated curved steel beams support the towers while vertical suspenders connect to the roadway below.

Lübeck Siems is a charming area with a rich history, particularly highlighted by its transportation developments. In 1916, the electrification of a bridge transformed local travel by enabling streetcars to connect Siems and Kucknitz. However, this service came to an end in 1958. Following that, in 1961, the suburbs collaborated with the City of Lübeck to construct the Herrenbrücke, which replaced the old steel truss swing bridge shortly after its completion.

(Translated by Google) I was there as part of a burial at sea and what can I write, the view of Travemünde from there is great, this little harbor has something to offer. The MS Eureka had completed the processing of the visual burial. Many thanks again to the captain or the general manager of the ship for the absolutely respectful and serious processing of the burial at sea. Anyone who has not yet dealt with this topic but is looking for an alternative to a traditional funeral should consider a visual funeral in Travemünde. I can only recommend this type of funeral because there is a completely different atmosphere and saying goodbye to a loved one in this setting is wonderful. But as I said, the pure Prinzenbrücke and the view of the harbor and Travemünde are great. When the long holidays are dragged there by the tugboats with the sound of seagulls, that's great. Even if it sounds cheesy, that's exactly how you imagine a harbor to be. Therefore, highly recommended and I definitely won't be there for the last time.
