If you're on the lookout for a satisfying lunch, look no further than Pub Cricket, located on the first floor of the South Wing at Rusutsu Resort. This casual café serves up hearty meals featuring 100% lamb burgers sourced from Yotei Hitsuji sheep and juicy beef options that truly highlight the quality of their ingredients. You can customize your burger with delicious toppings like avocado and cheddar cheese for an extra flavor kick.
Probably the best food within Rusutsu Resort itself (there are better options out of the resort that are within walking distance or a short drive). Great for when you don't want to get out of the resort for a meal. Good chill atmosphere, prompt and kind service. Enjoyed the rotisserie chicken and the Hokkaido potato wedges. Has live music on some days.
Bin T — Google review
Food was great. Love the live jazz atmosphere.
Teeraporn S — Google review
Burger was quite good. Fries were cold and small portion. Spare rib was not a real spare rib, no bbq sauce and more a fatty thick cut than a proper long rib. Two beers, very small, about two mouths full and gone. Quite expensive for what it was but I guess it’s a resort…
M L — Google review
One cannot expect too much in a holiday resort for their food offering. It is conveniently located next to the skiing slope and a good place to grab some food to replenish one's energy,
William T — Google review
A lovely bar inside the Rusutsu resort. Great atmosphere and at night when I was there, a super Irish/Jazz band was playing and the music was wonderful and happy and relaxing. Delicious drinks at a low price and good vibes, I'd definitely recommend.
Pickles P — Google review
The band who played at night time was exceptional. Violinist was really outstanding!!! I wish I knew the name of band so I would download songs on Apple Music. Staff was friendly, food was mediocre, thats why I took off one star.
Amber S — Google review
The food is ok.. Nothing special. However, it's what you'd expect inside the resort.
Tom — Google review
This place is the definition of "fine". We had got in around 7pm on this night and just needed something open to eat. If I knew 7/11 had good dinners, I would have gone there over here. Food was bland (quite salty actually), fish was fishy, and it was overpriced for what we got. Fries tasted like freezer fries. Probably the worst meal I ate in Japan.

Restaurant
Oktoberfest is a restaurant that offers diverse international cuisine despite its misleading name. The establishment aims to recreate the atmosphere of an Austro-German Alpine village. They offer consistent menus for both breakfast and dinner throughout the week. The dinner buffet features a variety of options including sashimi, king crab legs, wagyu steak, BBQ seafood, and soft ice cream. Guests have praised the delicious crab, beef, and seafood dishes while noting that other cooked foods are average in quality.
The restaurant's name may be misleading as it doesn't accurately reflect the diverse international cuisine it offers. However, the establishment has attempted to recreate the atmosphere of an Austro-German Alpine village (or at least there was an attempt to recreate it...) For both breakfast and dinner, the restaurant maintains a consistent menu throughout the week. Despite the lack of variety, the options available are extensive, and the standout feature is the exceptional quality of the dishes. Additionally, they showcase a range of local specialties, including Hokkaido cheese and snow crabs sourced from the region. Please note that alcoholic beverages are not included in the meal and are priced similarly to Singapore's rates, typically around SGD10 per beer.
Louis-Bernard C — Google review
First dinner at Rusutsu. The restaurant has all top most famous dishes for Hokkaido. Crab, grilled oysters, sashimi, beef steak, lamb bbq, melon, etc. very reasonable price to dine in
Noot P — Google review
Good variety for breakfast. Taste good for most I tried They even have melon pan Best option for breakfast
S C — Google review
This restaurant is rather big but due to the high season, the queue may take as long as more than 30 minutes. There are a reasonable spread of food ranging from simple bread and croissant to simple Japanese breakfast option.
William T — Google review
Breakfast and dinner buffet has variety of choices. Dinner buffet has sashimi, king crab legs, wagu steak, bbq seafood, soft icecream. Soybean cheese was very good. Very crowded restaurant, sometimes long waiting line.
Betty K — Google review
The crab, beef and some of the seafood are amazing. The other cooked foods are so so, so it’s only worth the buffet price if you like crab. Crab in Hokkaido is probably the best I’ve eaten.
James — Google review
Good breakfast buffet. Let's of options from different cuisines.
Tom — Google review
An amazing local dinner option. I generally do not like buffets but this delicious place with almost endless good dishes is worthy of a visit. We also especially appreciated the excellent service of Mr A Yasakawa, who is deserving of respect for his generous contribution to our happiness.

At the Westin Rusutsu Resort, the All-Day Dining Atrium is a culinary haven that invites guests to indulge in a delightful buffet experience. The highlight of this dining spot is undoubtedly the Hokkaido Bouillabaisse, crafted with an exquisite selection of seafood including anglerfish, clams, squid, tomatoes, and prawns. Each ingredient melds beautifully into a rich and flavorful broth that showcases the essence of Hokkaido's marine bounty.
Good place to have a dinner(buffet). Crab is endless and you can enjoy high quality if crab and yellowtail fish, and other foods. And self made sushi is very good, nice quality of rice. And staffs are very kind, there are many staffs from Indonesia and they can speak English, Japanese, Bahasa Indonesia well. This filled the gap of language barrier with Japanese staffs.
Tylor J — Google review
The employees are friendly. We had the breakfast and the dinner here. The choice of the food are not that much, but most of them are tasty. They have snow crabs and some sashimi during dinner time. Recommend the dessert, especially the puff, fruits pudding, strawberry shortcake and the chocolate tart! If you’re a Marriott bonvoy member, you’ll get extra discount for each meals except the breakfast.
W — Google review
Food was excellent. Great service too. We were very well taken care of Rod. I highly suggest the Roadt venison. It was extremely tender. The cedar salad was excellent as was the Cod.
Struan W — Google review
Maybe it’s a bit harsh to say but I expected a bit more quality for a Westin brand in-hotel dining experience. Especially if they’re priced as such. Went for their high tea but the coffee was sub par (better to stick with their tea bags) and while the dessert was pretty good, the variety wasn’t all there. 5 points to Gryffindor for presentation though, very aesthetic. Would I do it again? Nah. But do I regret trying it out? No, not really. And maybe their proper dining experience is vastly different- but as far as high tea goes, the re-visit value just isn’t there.
Jin K — Google review
Totally mediocre. Overcooked roast beef, some old crab mixed in with the okay stuff. Octopus that is tasteless. I could describe every dish I tried in negative terms.
Grant R — Google review
Really big portion and yummy food. You can enjoy the outside view by the window
R N — Google review
There were 2 piles of half melted plastic wrap or some sort of plastic packaging in the pasta エゾ鹿肉と牛肉のボロネーゼ スパゲッティ. After we told the staff about this issue, they tried to take the pasta away and prevent like nothing happened. I assume that’s probably what the manager told them to do. Firstly, we told a waitress about the plastic in the pasta, and the waitress apologize and said need to report back. After waiting for a while, another waiter came and asked us “you want to change?” That’s when we started to notice they want to just get over of this like nothing happened. This is not okay, so we asked him for the manager. It took a very long time for the manager to come to our table seeing him was not really doing anything. We waited at least 10-15 min at the table. Finally, the manager Endo-san came. 1. The manager was standing straight up all the way like he was my boss or like he was a king. 2. After the manager inspected the pasta, he did not apologize right away, and was still trying to make the whole thing reasonable. 3. Finally, I realized that this Westin hotel is not like any other Westin hotel I’ve visited. This is a poorly managed Westin. Therefore, I had to started speaking instead of just pointing and waiting. 4. As I started to communicate with fluent English, that’s when the manager’s attitude started to change. He apologize a little. It’s hard to notice his apology because Japanese usually bow when they apologize for something, but he didn’t. He just stood straight up like a boss. Business is too busy that mistakes happen, I can sort of understand that. Attitude was bad because the manager probably was not in a mood today, I can still understand that. He’s a human after all. What I cannot accept is that they tried to cover the mistake by just taking the plate away and prevent like nothing happened. This is not okay. It’s plastic in the pasta. In conclusion, I highly recommend DON’T go to this restaurant unless food safety is something you don’t care. It’s not safe to eat here.
Lee C — Google review
Average quality food. Small servings for price. Service was soo poor. It must be all the staffs first day. Several meals were wrong, so we're the deserts, and we had to ask 3 times for our drinks.

Izakaya restaurant
KAKASHI is a popular restaurant located within the Rusutsu Hotel & Convention resort, offering traditional Japanese tatami mat style dining. The menu features a variety of options including hotpot, sashimi, skewers, and other traditional Japanese dishes. The restaurant tends to get crowded quickly, especially on weekends, so it's advisable to make a booking in advance. While they do not take reservations and queues can be long due to limited space, the service is fast and friendly.
I love the menu here, and came back several times to try as much as I could. Great variety and all of it was delicious! The only thing is I wish I could call and get a place in line rather than walk across the resort to be told to come back in an hour. But the line is there because of the great food so it was always worth the wait.
Eric — Google review
This place doesn’t take reservations so we went at 6pm on Saturday expecting a queue. Surprisingly, they were able to seat us immediately so we didn’t have to wait. You order food via an iPad and there are English translations, which is great for foreigners. Service is also very quick after you place the order. Overall, the food is decent and good value. We went to Uo-Teru the night before and paid twice the amount and we weren’t even full after the meal. The nabe and the potato mochi were the standouts.
Nancy L — Google review
Tucked away in the corner of the hotel we were staying at KAKASHI offers an unexpectedly delightful dinner Loved their sukiyaki added udon in it
ALIEN B — Google review
They do not take reservations and just need to queue to get a table. The restaurant is not big. It is recommended to be there early, otherwise expect to wait for 60 minutes or so. Service is fast, efficient, and friendly. There are many food options from sashimi to hots pot.
William T — Google review
not a bad place for an in-house restaurant, tbh it doesn’t have too much of an izakaya vibe but just a japanese restaurant that serves many varieties of food. the ppl are nice there, very kind and helpful. we ordered a sashimi platter which doesn’t look so amazing in appearance but taste very well, which is a surprise to us. we also ordered some skewers but just normal, not too amazing. lastly we ordered a sukiyaki which was served by the waitress and taste pretty good. one important thing is all the restaurant in the hotel cannot use the ticket coupon, the ticket coupon only works for the fast food and shops inside the hotel, so unless you need to spend a big chunk of money buying stuff in the shop, otherwise there is no point for exchanging the ticket coupon… and that’s one of a reason why i put three stars…
David H — Google review
Service is terribly bad. My table ordered 4 pork cutlets and waited for 1 hour and had to ask one of the staff, turned out it’s sold out. This is such a waste of time, can’t believe this bad service happened in Rusutsu.
Emma M — Google review
Excellent service, foods pretty good. Traditional Japanese tatami mat style dining, with a good range of options, from hotpot, to sashimi, to skewers, to traditional Japanese fare. It's obvious why this is one of the more popular restaurants in the area if you plan to just stay within the hotel for food without travelling too far. Gets crowded pretty quickly over the weekends, so a booking may be required.

This cozy eatery boasts a warm atmosphere and exceptional service, making it a favorite among visitors to Rusutsu Resort.
Best local restaurant in Rusutsu. Back again a year later, just as good. Beef in BBQ sauce sensational

Beautiful and cosy restaurant. Love the atmosphere and homey feeling. Food is great and owners are very warm and hospitable too.
Cherish M — Google review
4 staff looking at us while 4 people lined up to use a machine to order, ok for lunchtime ski option not so much for dinner. Food average to below, rice not good, very bad for Japan.
Stuart K — Google review
This is a great little restaurant with a fantastic atmosphere and excellent service. They offer a range of dishes, mostly with local cuisine, but also some common western dishes. We ate here 6 nights out of 10 during our stay at Rusutsu Resort and were never disappointed.
Adrian M — Google review
Excellent food and the staff were very friendly and helpful. You can also get take away from here if it’s booked out. They also have an excellent selection of hot cocktails to warm you up after a long day skiing.
Scott — Google review
Well the old Pirateman has sold up and whilst the menu is largely unchanged its just not the same. Food is a bit bland. Gyoza too much vegies not enough protein and tasted watery. Pirateman’s sundaes and cheesecake are gone, which is a shame.

Izakaya restaurant
Rusutsu Sakaba is a restaurant located within walking distance from the Westin, making it convenient for visitors staying in the area. The menu offers well-seasoned rotisserie chicken, homey braised pork rice bowls, and tasty fries. However, some dishes like the winter vegetable salad and scallops received mixed reviews. While slightly pricier than other nearby restaurants, Rusutsu Sakaba provides spacious seating and generous portions.
Came here on our last night of our Rusutsu ski-cation. We checked on other nights but they were closed. The quality of the food was excellent compared to the other izakaya in the area (e.g. Red House). I ordered a winter salad (note: comes with the slimy mountain yam which I love but not everyone likes the texture), 5 kinds sashimi, sirloin beef donburi, 1 whole roast chicken (this was really well made), hamachi kama (yellowtail collar) which was perfectly salted and juicy, ikura donburi (salmon roe) and salmon sushi. The Belgian draft beer went well with the food. Thank you for a great meal! P.s. the waitress was friendly and spoke English as well. Service was excellent.
Karen O — Google review
The restaurant is right next to where we were staying. Love the vibe inside, very cosy! Loved the fact there was really good English service. The food was mostly really good, the chicken skewers were a bit too dry and could do a bit more flavour. Loved everything else. My favourite was the winter veges salad, it was so delicious. Not a super cheap place, but understandable as it's basically at the snow. ⛄️
Caitlynn Z — Google review
small & fairly priced izakaya across the Rusutsu ski resort! Highly recommended to make reservations beforehand, there aren’t a lot of seats and this restaurant is particularly popular among foreigners. Some dishes I recommend are the combination plate of sashimi, fresh oyster, and fried squid. Delicious 😋 However, the skewers weren’t really good. The meat was tough.
Lemon — Google review
This restaurant is just a short walk from Rusutsu Resort, which made it convenient to get to. Upon arriving, we were greeted by friendly and fast service, which set the tone for the rest of the meal. For our meal, we ordered a variety of dishes including Gyoza, sashimi, roasted chicken, and a mixed hot pot in spicy miso soup. Each dish was delicious and expertly prepared. The sashimi in particular stood out to me as it was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The roasted chicken was also a hit, and the spicy miso hot pot was a perfect choice for a colder day. We also had the grilled oyster, which was fantastic. For dessert, we tried the Basque cheese cake, which was absolutely delicious. It was creamy and rich, and the perfect ending to our meal. Overall, the food was good, the service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming.
William T — Google review
Sakaba is a little more pricey than Yuchan just down the road, but the food is just as decent. Sakaba is good for big groups of 8 or more and offer a range of wine and beer. It is also the only place I found in Rusutsu that is vegetarian friendly. The winter salad came in a heaped bowl and had a big variety of ingredients ranging from the usual lettuce, carrots and tomatoes to mountain yam.
Katie C — Google review
Rusutsu Sakaba is walking distance from the Westin which is a big plus when it's dark and snowing out. The Rotisserie chicken was well seasoned and delicious. The braised pork rice bowl was homey. The fries were good. But the winter vegetable salad which essentially every table ordered needed more greens instead of mainly radish and the scallops were fishy. Overall, 4-star because of its location, convenience, and fine meal after a day of skiing. Reservations seem essential. I made mine via Facebook messenger a few weeks before coming.
Janet H — Google review
Delicious foods and we love every dishes! Friendly staffs and reasonable price. Highly recommended, one of the best izakaya in Rusutsu.

Tanpopo Shokudo is a cozy and popular restaurant offering a wide variety of delicious dishes. The food is fresh, with large portions and sourced locally. The menu has many options, including the must-try Hokke fish, fried squid legs, yakitori scallop, and the surprising death gyoza. While the service may be slow during busy times due to limited staff, the friendly owner adds to the welcoming atmosphere. It's recommended to make reservations in advance as seating is limited.
This local bar had a nice atmosphere despite the prices being a bit on the high side. It was slightly warm inside, but the fried dishes were surprisingly good.
Moon B — Google review
The service quality is very poor. When serving food, they treat it differently according to nationality. The fish I ordered did not have lemon and garlic paste. The grapefruit and cola I ordered were laughed at by the kitchen staff. It's really bad! Every time the food is served, you need to go and serve it yourself. Don't go if you are tired of skiing. The service is really bad.
Liu A — Google review
Fantastic experience with the kindest people. Ordering from a selection of many different dishes to share using an app and food is then served through a little window. 'Table number 5!' Loved how that brought a smile on our face every single time something new was served. They even had lots of vegan options here, from bell pepper, shiitake mushrooms and kimchi to a very nice tempeh and cabbage dish. Highly recommend place. We had a lot of fun.
Patrick P — Google review
Quirky entertaining restaurant with good food and good value for money. If you sit at the back you have to fetch your own orders from the bench, but it's kind of fun and adds to the experience/ atmosphere. The kitchen lady has a microphone that she speaks into with your table number, and you have to fetch it, fast! My favourite is the lamb and the chicken heart skewers. Sukiyaki looked good here so I'll try it next time. Note: a bit of swearing/inappropriate comments written on the walls including bathrooms, in case anyone's thinking of bringing kids here. Recommend booking in advance in peak winter season (Dec-Jan-Deb)
Debbie R — Google review
Little bit pricey, but food was amazing and big portion. Everything was freshly sourced from local and everything we ordered were really good! I’ve never had such fresh Hokke! Recommended. The owner is really sweet and nice. She was the only person to run the floor, so when busy time, service might be slow, and a lot of food in menu might be out of order. But it’s country life, so we didn’t matter.
R N — Google review
Amazing how this little place can offer some many varieties of food in their menu! All the the dishes well good and value for money. We usually have 2-3 dinners here on our trip.

Delicious food in a cosy place. Do make reservations as it is usually full. Delicious yakitori especially beef short rib and fried squid. Very friendly staff. Amazing !

Japanized western restaurant
Restaurant
Nestled at the far end of Mount Isola, Steamboat Cafeteria is a must-visit for skiers and food enthusiasts alike. Renowned for its melt-in-your-mouth omelet, this cafeteria has clinched top honors in various snow area food competitions. Each omelet is crafted to order, ensuring quality with every bite. Guests can choose from three delectable sauces: demi-glace, tomato, or white sauce.
Ramen was not as good as in Tokyo but it was better than in USA so thank you for that! Sapporo bear! Salad option available. No problem with finding a seat, Lunch time is busy and has longer lines to order but nothing too bad. As there are not many options this place was great. Recommend.
Marta S — Google review
Ordering food here at lunch time is super stressful, the process was really bad, there were several queues for different things and that wasn't clear so if people trying to get to a certain window that had less people, they would look like they were jumping the queues. The food is average taste, the location is convenient for people that are skiing on the Isola side. The toilet is the most gross toilet of the entire mountain, avoid it if you could. Constantly smelly and wet ground. They have so much potential with the great location. Please improve your ordering process and services, and please make the toilet more clean!!

How does this place have 3.9 star rating?? We dream of this pork katsu curry during the year. It is better than any curry I’ve had in NYC. It is 🔥🔥. Also the vanilla soft serve and the coffee. Pure happiness
Amy W — Google review
It's our favourite place for lunch on the slopes in Rusutsu. But it tends to fill up quickly, particularly when there are large groups of students from ski schools. To avoid waiting in line, it is advisable to arrive early, around 11:30 am. The food served is genuinely delicious, and the prices are reasonable considering you're dining on the slopes. However, it's worth noting that the coffee is dispensed from a machine and can be quite pricey, ranging from ¥400 to ¥500
Louis-Bernard C — Google review
Nice oat latte (although I had to dial it in with double shot and small size to make it more like a flat white rather than just drinking milk). He did manage to do some nice latte art with oat milk which is trickier than other milk, 👍 good job. Expensive, sure. But this is a ski resort in Japan.
V L — Google review
Free WiFi as well. The Soda vendor machines do not accept cards.

Very convenient lunch place right on the slopes. It’s self-service so pretty quick. The only thing there are not so many vegetarian options and it’s hard to understand which sauces don’t contain meat.

The Red House is a cozy restaurant located in Rusutsu, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere with brick-red walls, wooden floors, and comfortable seating. Guests are welcomed to trade their shoes for slippers at the entrance. The menu features locally sourced ingredients, with dishes like grilled lamb and a variety of mushroom varieties served in a cast iron skillet. Visitors praise the friendly staff and casual ambiance, making it suitable for families as well. The restaurant also offers a limited-time menu during special occasions.
Great little place. Right menu with lots of flavour options. I had the miso chicken and she had the lamb and we shared stunning carrots and aubergine. Service very attentive and the atmosphere is relaxed. All in all a professional proposition.

Awesome ramen, great portions with a nice amount of salmon, noodles super tasty, real nice flavour. Overall the food is real noise and the service is lovely. Score!

Dined here our last 2 nights in Rusutsu and wish we had discovered this place at the beginning of our time here. Easily the best food we came across here as far as flavor , quality and price point. Night 1 was the Shabu Shabu with the wagyu add-on Night 2 was the flavour bomb appy (carrot and eggplant ), miso maple chicken and lamb dishes. Friendly servers from Canada and Australia took good care of us. We were lucky to get early table at 5pm both nights as it was booked up and we were only 2 people so you'll want to reserve well ahead of time if you have a group and want to eat at primetime hours. If your staying next door at the Westin it's a short walk and well worth it.
Travis F — Google review
To set expectations for future patrons, this is not a traditional Japanese restaurant. We ordered the lamb dish and it barely had any meat and was drowning in a sauce that was way too sweet. Not worth the $2900 yen. My friend was craving ramen but $3500 yen for a bowl is criminal, especially just having come from Tokyo where some top Tabelog and Michelin rated ramen were 1/3 of the cost. The sauce on the carrots of the flavor bomb was great. The eggplant was battered and fried well, but again, sauce was way too sweet. Perhaps they cater to the Aussie palate, but this place was probably the worst meal I've had in Japan my 3 visits here (8 weeks travelling in total)

Tabelog 3.01 Google Reviews 4.4 The Red House is yet another Shabu Shabu option in the Rusutsu Ski area. Reservations are recommended and the more spacious space does feel up quickly with groups especially past 6 PM. Service is largely by friendly Aussie English speaking foreigners who are here for ski season and I assume work local jobs during the evenings. Despite the menu being mainly Shabu Shabu (and a few burger options), orders can take awhile. A nicer ambiance than YOUTEI but similar dining experience. Credit cards are accepted (including split bills) and seating is indoor only. Reservations are accepted and recommended.
Randy F — Google review
Mixed reviews. The beef burger was very salty and some in our group couldn't even eat it. The miso chicken was just a sautéed piece of chicken with sauce poured over it. It was edible but nothing special. The greens were tough and not flavorful. The only thing we really liked were the potatoes that were served with the burger. The staff was friendly which helped make the experience less painful. Not a good value even for resort food.
Kathleen H — Google review
A tasty meal! Small menu served by the employees of the hostel, but the food was delicious! Would definitely recommend the Miso Chicken, it pairs well with their house red wine!
Laura H — Google review
All past reviews are blatantly optimistic. Shabu shabu was completely unseasoned, sauces tasted wrong; and most of all, the portion size for ¥3900pp was just obscene. The service, while nice, was simply too casual and lacked the formality that is expected in Japanese service standards. The one silver lining was that the eggs in the Western breakfast were cooked well enough. Consider staying at another lodge if you want to have inclusive breakfast and dinner.

Hot pot restaurant
Yo-chan is a cozy local Japanese restaurant located near the main entrance of Rusutsu Resort. Most seating is traditional Japanese style, and they offer an excellent 90-minute mutton buffet with fresh cuts of meat, bean sprouts, and cabbage. The restaurant also has private rooms for small groups and serves draft Sapporo Classic beer.
I booked 2 weeks in advance for table of 4 adults and 1 child (5yrs old). Restaurant sent me menu for pre-booked dishes. I did choose 2 set of lamb bbq 400g. Served with rice Crab hot pot in spicy miso and big platter of assorted sashimi. Food: super fresh and large portion Price: very reasonable Service: the owner is very kind to switch the table for my mom from tatami seat to normal table because my mom is very old. She couldn’t sit on the floor. Overall I will come back again!!

To get in this place you need a reservation. With the reservation you will need to pay a deposit. Ended up pre-ordering the sushi with uni and crab hot pot (salt broth) Both were quite good and the thing to realize was the the hot pot was meant for one person. The sushi was great and the price of the uni was a bit expensive, but not awful. The hot pot was simple and really perfect when it’s cold outside. Everything probably on the more expensive side, but outside of that the meal itself was good

Cozy dining! Fresh ingredients! My favorite menu were beef sukiyaki & crab miso nabe. The restaurant is a little hard to book/communicate. We did it via email.

Homey place with yummy foods! We got the lamb shabu shabu, pork fried rice, and karaage. The pork fried rice was very filling, and the karaage was nice and crunchy. Lamb shabu shabu was delicious, and they have a yellow sauce that paired well with the spicy flakes. You prepare the shabu shabu yourself but they provide a skimming tool to remove the fats from the lamb. I tried the yuzu and plum wine sakes, both of which were sweet and tasty! You do need to pay the reservation fee but they refund whatever you don't use when you get the check.

Nice Izakaya next to Rusutsu ski resort. It’s a 5 minute walk. Do make your reservations as this place tends to be full. Staff are friendly and the food is delicious. Child friendly place. Highly recommend !

Love the hot pot. Perfect dish for winter. The meats are fresh and vegetables are sweet. Because if its proximity to the skii mountain, you definitely need to make booking to try this out.
Ernest O — Google review
Strongly advise you to make advanced reservations on their website. They will take a deposit for the meal you want. We witnessed several groups get turned away for not just dinner that night but for other nights that week so some advanced planning is needed. We got the Kani-nabe (prepaid Y6,000 per person) or crab hot pot and a sashimi platter. The babe was homey, warm, full of veggies (Napa cabbage, enoki mushrooms), rice noodles, fried and firm tofu, and of course, seafood (crab legs, scallop, shrimp). The crab wasn't the plumpest/juiciest I've had, but it was fine. The sashimi platter was preordered as well and I had told them what I liked and disliked and they basically made a plate of all of the things I said I liked (scallop, chutoro, uni, sweet shrimp). With the sashimi platter, a pork fried rice, and 2 ginger yuzu drinks, it was an additional Y9,500 on top of the deposit. I was full and satisfied after the meal and would recommend to others. For the reservation process, I went to the website and clicked on advanced reservations for foreigners and filled out the information. There was some email correspondence in which the restaurant would email in Japanese, I would google translate the text and respond in English. They send a payment link for you to pay for the deposit. Limited English but we got on just fine.

Homely local Japanese restaurant located right outside the main entrance of the Rutsusu Resort; 5 minute walk. Most seats are Japanese style - without shoes and crossed legged on the floor. Draft Sapporo Classic beer is excellent, 90-minute mutton buffet is generous, fresh & contains good cuts of meat. Comes along with bean sprouts and cabbage. Has 2 private rooms which seems to be able to seat 6-8 people. Reservations can be made. Fried rice is very average.

Easily approachable French cuisine. Choose from a pre-fixe menu or mix & match starters / entree / pasta. Decent selection of meals available or go ala carte and make up your own line up. Food is fresh and presentation well done. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive. There's a Good selection of bottles on their wine list at reasonable prices. A little difficult finding the actual restaurant. It's listed as being on the fourth floor of the South wing but the floor doesn't look like it's part of the resort. It looks more like dorms or employee quarters. We eventually found the restaurant but it was actually just past the second floor South wing lobby desk.

YOUTEI is a highly recommended hostel for those planning to explore Rusutsu. It is an affordable option conveniently located within walking distance of the Rusutsu resort front entrance, ski lifts, and 7-Eleven. The staff is known for being awesome and very helpful, while the facility itself is described as clean and warm. While some guests found the heaters in the bunk rooms to be overly toasty, it's generally appreciated for drying out gear.
My brother & I stayed in this hostel for 5 days on a snow trip. It was a great location for us and we enjoyed staying with people from other countries. The dorm box had plenty of room to sleep. Firm mattress worked great for me although my pillow was average. I would stay here again and recommend to others.

Fantasic hostel and they cook a lovely shabu shabu. Wonderfully close to the ski field within short walk. Rooms are bunk and don’t offer a lot of space for luggage and getting ready and only one shower. Very friendly service.
Sharna G — Google review
There are very few options for affordable accommodation near Rusutsu - this is one of the few if you can deal with a capsule hotel style accommodation. Staff are helpful and it has a good vibe… nice mix of guests of all ages. And you do get a smug feeling having such a great location (few minutes walk to the resort entry) but not paying the insane prices at the resort hotels across the road. There is a common room, good for reheating your finds from the konbini down the road. Two areas that could be improved that would make a big difference…. Wi-fi is not reliable (particularly at busy times - we had to use the free wifi in the resort across the road) and invest in some more comfortable mattresses (they take a while to get used to)

Tabelog 3.06 Google Reviews 3.6 Not to be confused by the similarly named Yotei Shabu Shabu hot pot restaurant located in the Hilton, YOUTEI is an izakaya conveniently located 1 minute from Rusutsu Resort. Its menu includes an option to shabu Shabu or Genghis Khan BBQ like many restaurants in this part of Hokkaido but they also serve an assortment of izakaya dishes. Reservations are recommended or early dining as the few dining options in the area fill up quickly. Service is friendly but gets easily overwhelmed with multiple tables ordering which is why self cooking options are so popular in this area. Credit cards are accepted (although bills can’t be split) and seating is indoor only.

If you're looking for a delightful dining experience after hitting the slopes, look no further than Uo-teru, which opened its doors in December 2022 at Rusutsu Ski Resort. This charming izakaya offers an inviting atmosphere that perfectly complements your day of skiing. With its warm wooden interiors and soft Japanese music playing in the background, you'll feel right at home as you enjoy their expertly prepared dishes. Uo-teru is not just about great food; it's also about exceptional service.
A Delightful Izakaya Experience in Rusutsu Ski Resort Nestled within the enchanting Rusutsu Ski Resort, this Japanese izakaya is a culinary gem that blends tradition with warmth, offering a dining experience that perfectly complements a day spent on the slopes. From the moment you step inside, the cozy atmosphere welcomes you with its soft japanese music, wooden interiors, and lively chatter—a quintessential izakaya ambiance that feels both inviting and authentic. Food: A Symphony of Flavors The menu at this izakaya offers dishes that highlight Hokkaido’s exceptional local ingredients. Here are some of the stars of the menu: Wagyu Sukiyaki: This dish is pure indulgence. The thinly sliced, melt-in-your-mouth wagyu beef is cooked tableside in a rich, slightly sweet soy-based broth, accompanied by fresh vegetables and tofu. The moment you dip the beef into the raw egg sauce, it transforms into a creamy, luxurious bite that defines comfort food at its finest. Steamed Clams with Sake:Simple yet exquisite, the steamed clams are infused with the delicate aroma of sake, bringing out their natural sweetness. The broth is a standout on its own—light, flavorful, and something you’ll want to savor until the very last drop. Hokkaido Pork Shabu Shabu:A showcase of Hokkaido’s famed pork, this shabu-shabu dish is interactive and fun to eat. The thin slices of pork are cooked quickly in a hot pot filled with a light dashi broth, then dipped in tangy ponzu or creamy sesame sauce. The pork is tender and flavorful, and the accompanying fresh vegetables and noodles make it a satisfying meal. Chicken Wing Gyoza:This creative take on gyoza is not to be missed. Juicy gyoza filling is stuffed inside crispy, golden chicken wings, offering a delightful combination of textures. Each bite is bursting with flavor, and the wings are perfectly seasoned for a savory, umami-rich treat. Drinks: Do not miss the UO-TERU Lemonade Juice made with Hokkaido lemons decorated with cute lemon tower slides. Price: Reasonable for the Quality For a restaurant situated in a ski resort, the prices are more than fair given the exceptional quality of ingredients and the craftsmanship in each dish. Sharing plates makes it easy to explore the menu without overspending. Rating: 5/5** A must-visit for anyone at Rusutsu—warm and flavorful.

The food selection was quite good and everything tasted decent. Prices is around 5000-6000 Yen per person, and we still stopped by Lawson afterward to feel full. We dined in a private room, but the smell from grilled dishes was pretty strong.Still, options in the area are limited, so it’s one of the better choice nearby

Lovely staff and excellent chefs. The food is fresh and delicious. A focus on local Hokkaido fare. The grilled squid, ponzu oysters, eel and egg were very special dishes. We also had the potato which was very sweet which had you going back for more. The hearts were served on a sizzling plate and very tasty and tender. For a bit of fun you can drink a special gold leaf sake from a huge bowl which we shared between two. It was fruity and easy drinking and makes for a memorable night. They are very busy so make sure to have a booking. Many were turned away. The atmosphere was lovely and there is a small area for a traditional seating on the floor for a large group. The rest of the seating is on tables and chairs. We are English speaking tourists and we had no trouble ordering or paying. Thankyou for a lovely evening!

This place and its people are absolutely amazing. My friends and I travelled from the United States to a local resort and were actually trying to get to a different restaurant. I tasted it and drank it🥃 The bartender was also very friendly and we had a great time listening to various interesting stories (^^) (Original)

(Translated by Google) The bartender is so wonderful! They called out to me, but instead of talking too much, they gave me the time and space to talk casually and enjoy a drink. (Original) バーテンダーの男性がとても素晴らしいです!声を掛けてくださりましたが、話し過ぎず、さらっと話してゆっくりお酒を愉しむ時間と空間を提供して頂きました。

(Translated by Google) The worst thing about this hotel. The meat is tough, the food comes out different from what's on the menu, they use instant food, and the service is poor. If you come all the way to this hotel, I recommend you stay elsewhere. (Original) このホテルで1番まずい。 肉硬い、メニューと違うものが出てくる、インタントを使う、対応が悪い。 わざわざこのホテルに来たならここ以外をお勧めする。
