Went for breakfast on a Sunday after a recommendation. We didn't realise how popular Timbers was and we can see why. The quality of the food was great and cooked perfectly. The staff are attentive and friendly. Would definitely visit again.

Stopped here for breakfast On a short break to Colchester … food was fantastic but service was a little strange, asked for no tomato or mushrooms on my fry up and that I would like extra black pudding instead (that I was charged extra for), but was told they could not do that, they kindly served them on a side plate so it would not contaminate my breakfast but I obviously just left them to be thrown away, very odd ! The lady on the table next to us said she was a vegan and that she didn’t like tomato and the same waitress offered to swap for an extra fried egg instead. We won’t be back, shame as the food was delicious.

I’ve tried breakfast at Timbers a few times now and it’s always been good — the quality is consistent every time. It’s a nice place to enjoy breakfast in Colchester. Highly recommend!"

We had the loveliest time at timbers celebrating a birthday! The staff were so kind and attentive to detail. They also put up banners themselves knowing we were there for a birthday celebration. Thank you for facilitating a lovely lunch experience!

Be sure to book in advance this place is very popular! Yet again superb service and excellent food! We had the full English which includes a coffee in the price of £8.95 (hash browns are included but they’re not for me so they are not present on my plate). My wife had smashed avocado and eggs on toast, both dishes were excellent made with good quality produce and perfect treat on a Sunday morning!
Conrad H — Google review
Nice cafe, good breakfast options. Staff friendly. Only feedback would be to tell customers about the “ready for my bill” coasters when they arrive. Our waitress made a comment about us using the coaster after I asked for the bill but we were never told. Other than that, it was a nice experience.
Tony B — Google review
We tried the all day brunch. It was ok for the price. Cheap, but you get what you pay for. Personally I would pay more to get premium produce. I guess it fits the bill for those looking for a cheap meal. Carpet was grim and off-putting. We won't be going back. Could be a lovely place.
Roger P — Google review
We really enjoyed our breakfast at Timbers. It was our first time there as our usual place was closed for a private function. It's a family run place which did not disappoint. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the food was good and the prices were reasonable. Definitely recommend this place.

Step into the historic ambiance of The Old Siege House Bar & Brasserie, housed in a charming 17th-century half-timbered building on East Street. This award-winning restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for gathering with friends or family. Indulge in modern European cuisine with English influences, featuring a variety of British and international dishes made from locally sourced ingredients.
Really excellent food. Perfectly-cooked scallops with a lovely black pudding accompaniment, beautifully presented on a bed of salad, with just the right amount of dressing. Halibut was good but slightly less excellent, as it was just very slightly over-cooked. But only fractionally, and that's being picky. I had a delicious rump of lamb in a lovely sauce that was both fresh and minty, but also deeply unctuous and satisfying. I mean, really good. My daughter had chicken nuggets, which were delicious - light and tender and fluffy, moist and just lovely. That level of attention to detail for even the kids' menu speaks volumes of the standard of the kitchen. The restaurant is set in an interesting building with plenty of history. Service was friendly and good. One ale on tap - I forget the name, but it was well-kept and interesting with hints of apricots, and very tasty. Decent wine list. Reasonably priced for the standard of the cooking and food - felt we'd had decent value for a lovely meal. Will definitely return.
Alastair M — Google review
Sunday lunch 2 courses. Opted for the chicken roast, which came with generous and excellently cooked vegetables and roast potatoes. Biscoff cheese cake for dessert. Food was high quality and service was exemplary. Lost a star for adding voluntary 10% service charged without mentioning it before the meal. Apart from that minor annoyance it was a most enjoyable lunch.
Stillwe R — Google review
This restaurant in a historic 15th century building, is worth a visit. We went on a Sunday and had the roast. This is one of the best Sunday roasts I've had in the UK. I had the white bait starter and stuffed pork belly as a main. Both were superb and the portions are generous. Worth a visit.
Louis P — Google review
Fantastic beautiful restaurant with such a history. So beautiful inside with the gorgeous beams and service was excellent and the Lamb Shank we had was cooked to perfection. I will definitely go there again. I thoroughly recommend it as I think the best in Colchester
Tessa R — Google review
This place is full of character a 17th century half timbered french style building proudly displaying the original musket shots from the era. But more importantly the food doesn’t let the surroundings down. Offering European food with a modern English twist. Pan Fried Scallops with Pea Purée and Black Pudding Bon Bons. .A generous portion of scallops cooked to perfection sweet and tasty, but I have to say the idea of the black pudding bon bons was genius little balls of rich flavours balanced the pea purée and scallops beautifully. Pan Fried Sea Trout Fillet, Curried Mussel Velouté with New Potatoes and Samphire. Great looking fish, trout was full of smooth flavour and the curried mussels were awesome the sauce was to die for and with the sharp salty taste of the samphire was a great match. Apple and Cinnamon Crumble Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream. What can I say does what it says on the tin, loved the crispy pastry shell and the crumble was sweet and well, crumbly, to be honest and this is my fault I was expecting it to be warm like a crumble rather than cold, but it is a crumble tart so i guess a tart is cold. But a great way to end the meal. . Well that and the cracking espresso martini that replaced your standard filter coffee. . Whilst the food was great I have to also comment on the excellent staff for making us feel so welcome in the current times, it’s hard to be a great host with so many rules but they pulled it off brilliantly. We will certainly be back.

First time visiting and wasn't disappointed. Big group of 14 people for a family birthday was well looked after by the friendly head of house and her team. No incorrect or missing orders. Steak's were all cooked too perfection. Service overall was excellent. Was seated on a big table next to an open fire which was lovely. Will definitely return.

The Green Room is a brilliant place for a Sunday Roast. Atmosphere and staff were amazing as well. With the staff happily letting us sit where we wanted, to which we chose to sit in the courtyard. And as it was a sunny day, it shone through so beautifully. We ordered the the Roast Beef and this was spectacular!! Medium done beef with not too overpowering horseradish sauce, served with crispy but not sickening potatoes and fresh veg with a large yorkie. I left the restaurant feeling extremely satisfied. Would highly recommend!!
Sami K — Google review
The Green Room was advertised on Google maps as a Bistro. The shop front says 'Restaurant'. My damily of 5 walked in to see if we could have a Sunday evening meal and the hotel receptionist said that the Bistro had been closed for over a year. The photo's on Google are all over 1 year old. Google would not accept the update I subnitted based on talking to the Hotel receptionist.

With family down we thought we would try somewhere we hadn't been before and the Green Room had been recommended to us - we went on a sunday afternoon. The place is tidy / clean and staff were nice and friendly. We got seated and got drinks, some got starters and others just got mains. A few of the options on the menu are on slightly more expensive side, particularly on starters but generally not too badly priced. Was a bit worried about paying 6 quid for kids meals as I hate paying for them to only then have 2 or 3 bites, but it turned out they were free with a paying adult meal! Food was very nice, some of us had roast dinners with choice of either beef or chicken. I think we all enjoyed it! Not quite the full 5 stars as we had a rather excessive wait between starters and mains, to the extent that kids (1 and 3) had finished their meals which came out with starters before mains turned up - they really are not fast eaters!! Not end of the world stuff... but was our experience. Can't comment on desert as everyone was too full to try anything!! Worth a vist if you are looking for a nice place that is not a chain restaurant etc.

We had a nice little private area just as you come in close to the bar. Our waitress was very friendly and the food was excellent. Good wine list so will be a nice place for winter drinks.

LOVED this place! High quality and broad menu while also having traditional British food. Went here for a date, we started with a cheese plate, split their two different pot pies, and ended with their toffee pudding. Absolutely delicious and so reasonably priced! Can’t wait to go back.

This is one of my go to favourite restaurants. It is consistent, reliable and affordable. Mothers Day lunch was busy but we were looked after. There was a delay between starters and mains but the place was packed, so i have no issues there. All in all, love it!

One of the best restaurants in Colchester! We went for lunch and sat upstairs on the first floor — it was quiet and felt really relaxed. The service was amazing, very attentive and friendly. We shared the T-bone steak for two, and it was absolutely delicious. Great food, great service — highly recommend and we’ll definitely be back!

Really good food across the board. Bursting with flavour and small but quality menu. I had the monkfish as a main which was cooked well and portions were good. Rump of veal was also good although maybe cooked for an extra few seconds then I prefer. Great selection of wines and special shout out the member of staff who was working the bar for the first time having normally been in the restaurant. Price point matches the quality of the food and service. Recommended.

We came here for a date night on Saturday night, lovely atmosphere and the food was absolutely fantastic, great value for money considering the quality. They had great selection of drinks and a special thank you to our waiter, didn’t catch his name but he wore glasses and a mullet, made us feel very welcome and relaxed, knew all of the drinks and specials off by heart and took our order without notepad. Really great service, thank you!

Andrew the barman is EXCELLENT. His margaritas are second to none, and his service is thoughtful and genuine. Ask Andrew to make your cocktails, and you’ll be a happy customer. Very very pleased.

OMG. So third time now we've been and somehow the food just gets better. Great decor and the service is quick and professional. Bonus being as soon as you sit down you get a bottle of still water with no charge. Why all restaurants don't do this is beyond me. Now to the food. We had Sunday roast. I had the beef and it was amazing. Also probably had the best roast potatoes I've ever had. They were epic. I had Cauliflower soup for a starter that was also delicious. Highly recommended.

Tea house
Small Talk Tearooms and Gifts in Colchester is a charming and spacious tearoom that offers a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The decor is tastefully done, with ample space between tables. The menu features delightful options such as chicken, avocado, bacon, and mayo sandwiches, English breakfast tea, vegetarian cheesecake, lattes, Sakura tea, Darjeeling tea, and cream tea with delicious scones and clotted cream.
We love coming here for Sunday breakfast/brunch. Calm atmosphere and lovely ambience. We also enjoy the range of teas they serve. Our personal favourites are Sakura and Kashmiri teas.
Mrs K — Google review
Visited here yesterday whilst in Colchester for the day on holiday. I was impressed with the menu as there was lots of choice. Staff were very friendly when greeting us to seat us and when taking our food order/bringing our food etc. I ordered the ham and onion chutney sandwich. It was average price at £7.95 but not to bad as it did come with crisps and salad (as stated on the menu). It was presented very well, but unfortunately some of the ham was quite gristly and chewy. My partner had welsh rarebit which was very good quality, but extremely overpriced at £9.50 considering you only get one slice of toast/bread. For that price he expected to get 2 slices and we personally feel just 1 slice is quite stingy, as it is essentially just cheese on toast. His also came with a huge pile of salad which was not stated on the meu, which he wasn't too happy about as he hates the taste of salad and doesn't like this touching other elements of his meal. This really should have been stated on the menu that it came with salad so that he could have asked for it without and it wouldn't have gone to waste. I personally feel they give a huge portion o salad to try and make up for the fact they are only giving one slice of bread/toast to make it look like you are getting better value than you are really, when salad cost next to nothing. The cakes only looked bought in and not home made which I was surprised about, so we passed on having any of those.

We had an awesome afternoon tea at Small Talk Tearoom - the sandwiches and tea were amazing! Staff members were also warm and helpful. To enjoy tea time with your significant ones, call or visit the shop in advance to make a reservation as well as a deposit!

This tearoom is my safe haven. I enjoy the design and the home-like furniture, it feels cozy and welcoming every time. I was expecting loose-leaf tea, but they serve tea bags instead. Still, the atmosphere makes up for it.

Lovely tea place. People were nice and the food was as expected! Sakura tea had a full flavor and the scent kept so long. Darjeeling was nice as well. They have a cream tea and the presentation was so cute! Scone and clotted cream was very delicious. Clotted cream was so thick and creamy and scone was soft!

This cafe is perfect for people who love playing board games. There's a great selection of games to choose from, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The café also offers delicious food and drinks, which makes it a great place to spend a few hours relaxin'.
Saw this on a local ghost tour and had to visit! Really nice relaxed atmosphere, airy and clean. And surprisingly fairly quiet. We visited around 1pm and not too busy with alot of tables taken. Mostly young families or groups of teenagers. The service is friendly and again very laid back. The food snacks we had were perfect for our afternoon gaming. A huge selection of games. What was going to be a short visit turned into a full afternoon. Highly recommend with friends for a chilled day.

Great board games cafe with endless choices. Only had hot drinks which were good! Food looked fine if you like pizza. Did not eat anything as had already eaten. Cakes looked very nice. Will return to try them! Lots of space and quiet atmosphere for board games to be taken as seriously as you wish. Very pleasant girls on the counter. Open late on a Friday evening. Excellent if hot drinks are all that are required. Fills a big hole in the town's cafe collection as most shut by 17.30. Independent place so worth supporting.
Arlene A — Google review
Really lovely venue to play some boardgames with friends. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food and snacks are tasty, only very minor item is at busy times the service of food orders is slightly slower but goes with peak times. Can also reserve a table online via their website
Luke H — Google review
All staff very friendly and happy to help, the drinks were delicious and at a good price. The cafe was warm and welcoming with a large number of varying games. I found the cafe when I was looking for a place to try a game I had seen online and saw that their website listed them as having it. I booked a table and mentioned it in my booking message mainly just to check that they had it. We we arrived they had got the box out and ready and put it on our reserved table, a service I was not expecting and made for a great first impression. Great little board game cafe that I look forward to visiting again in the near future.
Kate A — Google review
Spent a couple of hours here learning a fun new game, sipping coffee and enjoying vegan cake. Relaxing atmosphere, and staff was able to recommend a game for me.
Joey G — Google review
We had a day out to the Dice and a Slice, we took the family which included the very small people. Place was tidy and well presented and the person working till gave us an overview of where we would find everything. The board game selection is massive, although the ones suitable for small people as you would perhaps expect is far smaller. Kids enjoyed the ones we played, and thankfully all contents were there. Table we was on was plenty big enough to spread out as well. We had some warm drinks fairly early on, mostly hot chocolates (orange one was very nice!) Lunch was perhaps a little more of a mixed bag, jacket potato's were good but some of the other meals didn't quite hit the mark unfortunately. Perhaps need a few more kid friendly options on the menu to. Kids weren't keen on the milkshakes, and to be fair I tried one and was a bit disappointed too. We had a good time, and a perfect option if you don't want to be stuck inside at home / weather not great outside...!

First time visiting this place and it well deserves the rating it has (at the time of writing). Got myself a solid milkshake which was grand, but the real star of the show was the pork, sage and apple sausage roll, that I'll attach a picture of. Look at that ratio. Absolute unit.

I was checking menu outside, 2 customers walk out the café and told me it's good. So I gave a try. Nice fluffy scone serve with butter (eat in), under £7 you can have a light quaility meal ! Friendly service, comfortable open space, quiet enough to enjoy conversation with friends. P.S. The 2 customers I mentioned actually recommended their sandwich and soup, I'll come back again for that :)

My wife had a cheese scone and decaf coffee,I went for a huge hot sausage roll which really hit the spot and a lovely cup of tea.The food was excellent and the service from the staff was first class. The price was really reasonable we will certainly be back again when we visit Colchester next.

The H. Gunton Deli is a well-known and popular family deli in Colchester, which specializes in selling a wide range of food items including chutneys, honey, dried lentils and beans, flour and grains, cheese, and coffee. It can sometimes feel crowded due to its narrow aisles, but the store's excellent cheese counter as well as its freshly ground coffee make it a must-go destination for anyone in the area.
What a great asset to Colchester! A lovely shop that sells everything you need and more, they have an excellent range of gluten free suitable foods too. Highly recommend their fresh pastries, savouries and cakes - their Mars Crunch is our favourite! And that’s before we get to the fresh coffee and 100 cheeses… highly recommend a visit!

Random choice of foods was told to go for good range of gf foods and was very disappointed everything seem to be expensive compared to other local shops tiny slice of game pie for £5! 2 mouthfuls and it was gone had far better and cheaper elsewhere won't be returning

Just one of those precious, special places where you can spend hours looking and buying. Great shop, fantastic stuff, and a place you wouldn't want to miss even if it was just during your daily walk. Nice coffee and sandwiches.

This is a wonderful grocery store with an amazing range of products (their cheese counters are fabulous). It's like a vanished world there: personal, friendly service and a feeling you've entered an oasis of calm. Highly recommended. Bear in mind, though, it's not a restaurant.
Michael C — Google review
Quaint little deli packed to the rafters with selections of teas, coffees, cured meats, packaged and tinned goods. Best cranberry sauce I've tasted. Gets very busy and a bit congested in the aisles but worth every minute spent in there.
Glenys P — Google review
Lovely little deli, came just to browse, left with a bag full of little delicacies.
Dennis M — Google review
Little gem which is well known to locals for being a place to be able to source all sorts of food related items which you can't find in regular supermarkets or food shops. Lovely cheeses, jams, fresh produce, freshly ground coffee - the list goes on. Sadly not open for as many days or hours as before the pandemic but still worth checking out. Some things more expensive than elsewhere but for those hard to find goodies, this is the place.

I have now been here several times and every single time I have come in the staff have been amazingly helpful and knowledgeable. The quality of the products are great. I could not fault this store in any way. The selection of cheeses, deli meats and coffee is one of the reasons I will keep going back.

Absolutely faultless. I rang at 1pm and they had a cake made for collection by 4pm. Honestly the best tasting and lightest sponge I've ever eaten! So fresh and so accommodating! I cannot fault and for the price - such value for money! I didn't have high expectations - absolutely blown my expectations out of the water! I had one very happy 9 yr old! Will definately be a return customer from now on! Thankyou!

We have been using this shop for years and have never been disappointed. We moved away from the area and still use This shop. It takes us more than a hour to get to the shop after parking and walking to the shop. We have a very important even within our family I asked for LILO AND STITCH a colours with the phrase ( OHANA ) from the film. And I can honestly say I was gutted when I opened the box to see this Terrible writing looks nothing like what we’ve had in the past. nearly £70 and no- one has contacted us.

Very highly recommend this place!! I have used Cake Story for several different occasions so far and they never disappoint. They are always happy to accommodate me even with such short notice (literally the next day). The cakes have always tasted fresh, delicious and just right- not too sweet and not too bland in comparison to supermarket ones! Their store is not too fancy or highly decorated but the service is impeccable and the prices are affordable. As you can see on the photos, you don't have to stick to a certain cake design either- you can modify and personalise a cake as much as you want.

This will be our last dissapointing story from cake story as we are now switching to "Cake Box" just down St.Johns oposite of Wilko. We asked cake story to write happy birthday, but instead, it was spelled "BipthdaY" and writting is just NOT ACCEPTABLE given that its not a cheap place to order a cake and we expect a DECENT writting on the cake. This is supposed to be celebrating a birthday and a British citizenship but then our CAKE STORY is unfortunately very upsetting. This quality of cake puts us off in celebrating. There was no sense of trying to give the customer a sense of satisfaction. I emailed you on that day hoping there will be some explanation to as to why a decent cake wasnt provided. Yes, my husband who picked up the cake did not complain as he is a people pleaser and he is not confrontational. He keeps his disappointment to himself. But he wasnt happy and that will be the last time he will order his cake from you. Shame he recommended you to other people and now we are taking it back and promote cake box instead.

I'm so disappointed to write this review. We have been going there about once a month for several years but not sure what happened today. The service was slow, the food was luke warm, we had to get our own cutlery and had to chase up our order several times. Our meals didn't arrive together and one of our group asked where their meal was....it arrived about 5-10 minutes later than the others - barely hot. We're sorry this lovely little cafe has deteriorated. What a shame they have lost our custom.

After our putting game, in Castle Park, we dropped in here for lunch. Spoilt for choice, the children opted for Pasta Carbonara n parmesan, and Sausage sandwich washed down with shakes n cream. I went for the daily special the Seafood Risotto, with Cod, haddock, smoked hake, peas and parmesan. Wow wow, So tasty, obviously a really good chef. The prices were really good too. The staff are all obliging and very friendly. Would definitely come back and highly recommend a visit 10/10 for me.

It was a pleasure to have Raluca make our baby’s 1st birthday cake. The design was lovely and the taste was out of this world. I was hesitant to try a new cake maker in my city but her politeness, attention to details and quality of service is commendable.

A huge thank you to Lucas cakes for making our wedding cake. It tasted amazing and guests kept going back for more. Raluca knew exactly what we wanted and it looked even better than we imagined.
Jacob S — Google review
Raluca did our cake for our wedding in June at Prested Hall. We ordered a 4-tier buttercream cake from Raluca for our wedding, and it tasted absolutely amazing. All our guests really enjoyed the flavours and it went down well. Over the course of the wedding planning Raluca was very helpful and accommodating and gave us some samples to try. It was very hard for us to round it down to just 4 flavours. She helped explain the overall process, and the cake was delivered to the venue fine on the day. We would thoroughly recommend her!
Tim L — Google review
Every interaction with Raluca was lovely. She's friendly and professional. The video call to dumiscuss what we wanted was so helpful. Tasters and the actual cake was so good in flavour, it was tough choosing flavours. Having seen a sketch of the design after the call, the final cake was above and beyond what we were expecting. So many guest were complimenting it. Highly recommend.
Ellie H — Google review
The wedding design consultation was great, what is not to love about lots and lots of delicious cake to try! So many tasty flavours makes it difficult to choose. Luca really helped us visualise what we liked and how it would look. The ordering process was very easy, almost a relief to get another item ticked off the ever growing list of responsibilities on a wedding day. This was one of the easiest things to get ticked off the list, and all thanks to Luca as we were much undecided originally. When we arrived at the venue, it was there...in the correct place...looking INCREDIBLE (better than expected) and tasted amazing. Nothing to fault. The flavour and quality of the cakes, unlike I any cake I have had before, it was really incredible. If you are unsure, find Luca at one of the MANY wedding shows she attends and taste for yourselves. Even once we ordered our cake, Luca was still happy for us to chat at the wedding shows and feast on cake. We cannot recommend Lucas cakes enough, the quality of service and the quality of the cakes are so high. Thank you again Luca!

Food was lovely , we was told there would be a 15 minute wait on the burger as its homemade and cooked fresh that is fine , only got 4 sweet potatoes wedges . We waited 45 minutes . Very popular and busy place when people left tables was cleared very slowly and never wipped. Seemed a little expensive for what we had garlic bread was 2.10 was a slice of bread with butter . Staff were plesent but a little disorganised.

We went to Mimosa last night to celebrate our anniversary and could not fault the whole evening. The food was delicious and the service was perfect. Food was excellent, so tasty and well presented. We all had something different, including deserts and not one complaint or criticism. Would definitely recommend to everyone. Well done to all 👏 Thank you for making this a wonderful memorable occasion.
Michelle — Google review
Lovely food, AWFUL outside, glamorous inside...firstly, let's start by saying we highly rate the Elysium group, both Pavilion & Hudson are superb venues, and Mimosa (although an odd location) certainly carries the same level of grandeur upon entry to the interior and with regards to its high level of food. It was a sunny morning, so we decided to have breakfast outdoors, we walked through the lavish interior and to the back area. At first glance the outside looked nice, but as we went to get a chair we saw they were actually rotting we went to another table, the wood was peeling and there was green algae on the chair, we walked to a booth but the seating had partially collapsed, we eventually sat in the one spot that looked "ok" only to see coffee stains on the table, then looked up to see cracks and spliters in the wood with rust lanterns hanging down. To be honest, the outside area was an absolute shambles. It really should not have been open to the public in such a state. It needs an awful lot of landscaping work, cleaning and brand new furniture. On a positive, the food was very good, the service was OK (albeit a little slow) and overall we would go back.... I just really hope the management can put some money towards improving the neglected outdoor area, especially when the sun is out and people will want to use that space.
The G — Google review
Food was great but the service was even better, shout out to my man Rishi he was such a pleasure to be around and made our experience 10x better! There was also another server she was like 16/17 (sorry I forgot your name) that was also so lovely and helpful. You guys made my brothers graduation meal super special!
Joel E — Google review
Visited for my mum’s 80th birthday at lunch time. It was a bit of a shame the air con appeared either not to work or it wasn’t on at lunch time despite the heat wave outside. So while the restaurant wasn’t crowded at lunch time it was a bit stuffy during the meal due to the heat. Services was good and quick, as we had pre-ordered as it was a big group of us can only comment on the “set menu” for large groups. There was less of a variety than I imaged for the restaurant but understand with a big group they have to keep it short and sweet. Most of us were content with our meal and the kids enjoyed their slider burgers. So before putting a verdict on the food I will have to go back and try the full menu :)
Nigel F — Google review
Odd location for a restaurant, but such a lovely venue. Gorgeous and modern. Staff were amazing from the start, so friendly and accommodating. Food was presented well and tasted great. Overall a brilliant experience and would definitely come back for other occasions!
Freyja T — Google review
We really loved the decor and the food was genuinely delicious — it’s clear the kitchen knows what they’re doing. Unfortunately, the experience was let down by poor service. Even though the restaurant was quiet, with only a handful of other tables, we had to wait far too long between courses and again for the bill. The toilets, particularly the ladies’, were in disrepair and not clean, which was surprising given how empty the place was. As we left, the coffee tables by the entrance were cluttered with dirty mugs and plates, giving the impression that things just weren’t being looked after. A real shame, as the venue and food have so much potential

Beautiful decor. Delicious, Homemade treats. Choose your own teapot is a nice touch. Very friendly staff. I like they have small businesses inside selling their crafts, my partner bought some unique earrings. Highly recommend, So much better than the run of the mill coffee shop!
Tansie H — Google review
Twisted Treats hold a special place in my heart because they created the cake for my sister's funeral last year, which I appreciate funeral cakes aren't the norm but I very much feel they should be. I was very unsure what I wanted and too much in a grief fog to give it much thought but Jo took my wants and made something incredible which really captured my sister's favourite things and had a rainbow center to honour my sister. Jo did an incredible job and twisted treats remains super special to me. Especially now they have the new shop in Colchester! I love it here, it is my happy place. First heard of them during lockdown with the online markets, then went to the store in Mersea, and now they are here in Colchester it is the best thing ever! (Although no longer such a good reason to visit Mersea!) The cakes are incredible, so imaginative and delicious and surprisingly really well priced, you'd expect super expensive but it really isn't! The hot chocolate soup was incredible last winter and I'm looking forward to having it again this year! The small business shelves are lovely and have some really beautiful things. And last but not least, the decor is insane. It is so cool and is very much dopamine inducing! I would live in twisted treats if I could. At least twice I have been laying in bed with my husband and said 'I wish I was at twisted treats right now because it's closed so I could just eat all the cake'. I'm beginning to sound obsessive now so I'll stop but honestly it's amazing and you should definitely go.

This place is amazing for sweet treats. Have tried most brownies, blondies. Good homemade food and to top it off the staff are always friendly. Ps. Try the Peanut Butter shake.

What a great little place, so glad I stopped by! A huge array of sweet treats - it was hard to choose just one!! A delicious iced coffee, super friendly service and even a colourful outside seating area - highly recommend and will be back, with my pup next time 🐶❤️

The Colchester branch is lovely - bright, welcoming and spotlessly clean. The shop is full of character, as are the staff and the bakes! I bought a selection of brownies/blondies for the office and a filled cookie for myself along with a Ruby hot chocolate and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. So delicious! Rave reviews from my team as well, especially my vegan colleague who loved the maple, date and walnut brownie. Well worth the visit and I will be back very soon :)

This has become a firm favourite of mine and I now venture to mersea at least once a month to try something new. They also have a delicious range of treats plus sell some great local goodies and gifts. The apple pie sammie is definitely a favourite! Edit to add that we also used twisted treats service for our wedding cake. We knew we wanted something delicious, unique and reflective of our relaxed wedding. Twisted treats created our amazing custard cream flavour cake and it was incredible, would highly recommend anyone looking for something a little different for their big day!
