Fast food restaurant
Restaurant
Borenos Fried Chicken, located in Asia City, Kota Kinabalu, is a popular halal-certified eatery known for its delicious and crispy fried chicken. The restaurant takes pride in marinating the chicken just right and using excellent breading techniques to lock in aromatic flavors. They ensure that only fresh, locally sourced chicken is used, guaranteeing a delectable taste like no other. One of their signature dishes is the Full Spring Chicken, cooked to perfection without being oily.
This fried chicken spot came highly recommended by a local, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was freshly fried and served piping hot, making it juicy, tender, and flavorful. I ordered the 2-piece chicken set meal with Sprite (RM20.80), which included a side of coleslaw and mashed potato. The coleslaw was fresh and creamy—one of the better ones I’ve had in Sabah—while the mashed potato had a slightly grainy texture that might appeal to those who enjoy a more rustic feel. Personally, I still find other fast food options, like KFC’s, slightly more to my taste in terms of smoothness, but this one was still satisfying in its own way. I also tried the a la carte chicken burger (RM7.50). While the patty was served warm and fresh, the overall flavor didn’t stand out as much compared to other burger chains, but it’s still a decent option. Overall, I’d recommend coming here for the fried chicken set meal, as the chicken was definitely the highlight—crispy on the outside, moist and tender inside, and well-seasoned. The service was friendly, and the dining environment was clean and comfortable. It’s a great spot for fried chicken lovers!

Atmosphere - clean & tidy environment with good ventilation (one does not get the oily smell on the body, hair & clothing dining inside the restaurant). There is also a separate lounge nearby (about 15 - 20 meter away) for big group dining, etc. Service - very good cashier & kitchen staffs. The supervisor/manager in black shirt helps to clear tables & served customers at waiting tables. Food - even though there is only 1 type of fried chicken flavour, it is enough as the fried chicken is very tasty. Fried chicken is served with Borenos sauce/gravy (similar to the whipped potatoes gravy) which made the chicken even tastier (no need chilli & tomato sauces, the gravy itself is good enough). The Normal Coke that came with the set meal can be exchanged with with Zero Coke without incurring any extra cost (Other fried chicken brands will normally put additional fee to this changed of drink request) - RESPECT - for not being greedy! Hope Borenos can expand to many more places (Tuaran? 😉 ) & maintaining the good standards all the time!

Awesome place to try fast-food. In my taste, they have better chicken burger than the other established fast-food companies. If I had the stomach, I would've tried other items in their menu too. The additional good thing about this particular branch, they have a lounge, which is a few stores down from the ordering counter, which is big and enough to hold bigger groups.
Mohamed R — Google review
I visited this fast food store while travelling and tried their 2-piece fried chicken for lunch. The taste was just okay, but about an hour later I started feeling bloated, burping constantly with a disgusting smell that made me feel nauseous. I ended up vomiting and having diarrhea. Another hour later, I reached the airport and had to run to the toilet to vomit again — and even after my flight, I vomited a third time. I finally reached home at 11:30 PM and vomited for the fourth time. The burping smell was still the same and made me feel sick every time. The worst part is that I wasn’t the only one — all four of us who ate there had the same symptoms. My partner even had a fever and chills while pooping through the night. Definitely never going to try this place again. Eat here at your own risk!
Joey N — Google review
Sounds famous so have a try. Have to say the chicken is very perfect. Delicious and juicy chicken for every bite. And the chicken is well fried.

Vietnamese restaurant
Fast food restaurant
Peppermint (Jalan Gaya) is a delightful dining spot that has stood the test of time, having evolved from its original location to a more modern setting. After 17 years, it’s heartwarming to see this beloved restaurant still thriving. The menu features standout dishes like the beef stew noodles, which are praised for their succulent beef and rich gravy. Breakfast options are equally impressive, with hearty servings that remind diners of authentic Vietnamese flavors reminiscent of popular spots in Kuala Lumpur.
Quite a good place to eat for Vietnamese beef stew or beef soup noodle/ pho. We were pleasantly surprised it tasted so good 👍👍👍!

Went here for the first time with an unpleasant experience. I went here, the cashier service didn't know how to smile, didn't speak well and looked at us like we didn't have money. We asked what food was recommended or best seller but the cashier just kept quiet and didn't answer. Overall, the food service is very fast and delicious. Just need to improve the service. Ps: don't judge a book by its cover

Love the Spicy Nasi Ayam & Beef Stew(SOUP) 💃🏻💃🏻 just like the old times🥺🥺 for the spring rolls too oily this time. Overall still my go to place to east. Very fast service and clean 👍🏻 but for open space there so many flies🥺🥺🥺 hope you gais can work something for it🥲
Ayda J — Google review
Used to be my favorite restaurant for lunch when I was staying & working in kk in my younger days. First time back after at least 17 years. The restaurant has moved from its original spot nearby Public bank with an upgraded look. I am happy to see this brand still thriving and growing. We ordered the beef stew noodles, the beef was really very succulent and juicy and the gravy is a really good portion and so delicious. I am also glad that the fried chicken with rice is delicious but not as amazing like I remembered it. But it is good nonetheless with the right amount of crisp and gravy. Finally, I also had the Vietnamese iced coffee, this was a combo with the rice. Aside from the beef stew noodles, everything else we had was fair, delicious food, but somehow lacking in something that I cannot quite describe.
Elie T — Google review
They didn't have combo for spring roll with beef Stew anymore since 2019 🥲🥲🥲 so sad. Luckily beef Stew and baby khailan still good. Nescafe too sweet.
Mas L — Google review
Went here for my breakfast (heavy). Glad that beef noodle soup matched my taste bud and of course almost the same with the one I have tasted Vietnam restaurant in KL (Pho Pho). The signature dish beef stew goes well with noodle and a little bit of soup. And the extra happiness is their stuffed chicken wings.. so yumss. Price wise? Affordable. And ambience kids friendly too.

Wisma Merdeka Food Center, located on the second floor of Wisma Merdeka, is a popular spot for food enthusiasts. The variety of food available here is one of the best in town, attracting both locals and tourists. However, be prepared to wait in line during peak hours as it tends to get crowded. One must-try place is T CULTURE coffee on the second floor known for its dense and delicious cheesecake and flavorful coffee.
Was searching for food & came across this vegetarian stall. Enjoyed a very delicious fried vegetarian meehoon with a huge ice cold glass of kitchai ping. Bliss! Happy happy.. will certainly come back for more. 太好吃了!

Chinese noodle restaurant
The noodle shop Kedai Kopi Melanian 3 金沙园生肉面 is located in the KK area and has Cambodian style noodles which are tasty and not too expensive. The cost of food here is higher than other local sang yuk mee stalls, but tourists should try this place anyway. There are many other local restaurants that serve better noodles, so if you know where to look you will be ok.
Fresh meat slices, clear flavorful broth, and springy noodles make a perfect combo. Quick service and affordable too!
Kori P — Google review
👎🏻 1) Not the greatest tasting meals 2) all cutleries soaked in warm water with patrons dipping their fingers inside. Not the most hygienic 3) the sliced pork soap is really plain 4) really warm overall 5) hard to find car park
Samuel T — Google review
I ordered 干捞河粉,but unfortunately, I was so disappointed with my experience. The noodles were swimming in an overwhelming sea of salty soy sauce, which completely overshadowed the dish. The pork slices were thick, tough, and difficult to chew, making them unpleasant to eat. To top it off, the soup base was bland and lacked any real flavour. Barely a whisper of taste!! Overall, not the experience I was hoping for and definitely not worth the price.
GIGI — Google review
Somehow, the pork noodles in Kota Kinabalu tastes different. The pork slices are so soft and the dry noodles are delicious. Perhaps, the secret to this delicious bowl of noodles is their sauce.
FoodiesTravel B — Google review
The Noodles is nice, the meats and the soup tastes good. Noodles + Soup = RM 12.50. The Yong Tauhu is okay, but the meat given is quite stingy. RM 2.50/pc The Teh Tarik ice is terrible, and it costs RM 4.50 with this small cup. Not recommended. Skip the drink, and order the food is enough.
SX K — Google review
This place's pork noodle is AMAZING. We tried the soup and the dry ones. both is equally good especially before a trip for island hopping. The place is very clean as well. we came when they open shop. Give it a try if u are here.
Jason C — Google review
Considering I mainly came here because I was curious to try the specialty of pork soup and noodles despite being not a fan of pork, I was surprised how much I liked it. Flavorful broth, very tender meat and rich fried noodles, well complemented by hot sauce and soy sauce for dipping if you choose. Super friendly service and for the first time, it actually worked when I asked for less meat and more vegetables, and I could also ask for pork meat only, with pork balls etc. Only fans no AC, but it still was pleasant during lunch time. Once you order and pay at the counter the food comes out super quickly.
Naomi R — Google review
Tried: 1. Mixed Pork with Noodles (RM12.50) Rating: 8/10 - Tasty - Fresh Pork - A bit expensive by local standard 2. Braised Pork with Rice (RM13.00) Rating: 8/10 - Tasty - A bit expensive by local standard 3. Milk Green Tea (RM3.50) Rating: 8/10 - Rich green tea flavour - Sweet In general, the food was tasty. By local standard, a bit expensive. Accepts eWallet payment. Verdict: Try at least once

Noodle shop
Breakfast restaurant
Kah Hiong Ngiu Chap is a popular noodle dish in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The dish features a variety of beef cuts such as beef balls, brisket, tripe, tendons, and other parts served in a rich and flavorful beef broth. The restaurant simmers the beef cutlets and daikon radish for hours with their special blend of herbs and spices to infuse the broth with delicious flavors.
One of the best beef noodles in town, hands down. The broth is rich, thick, and packed with natural sweetness from the beef — you can tell it’s legit from that deep brownish-reddish color. I especially love that they serve it with radish, which adds a nice balance to the dish. The chili here is no joke — spicy with a sharp, stingy kick that lingers in the best way. Definitely for chili lovers! Cleanliness is top-notch too. They even provide hot water for you to soak your utensils — a thoughtful touch that shows their attention to hygiene. And don’t miss the sweet stewed beef — tender, flavorful, and highly recommended.

My sis recommended me to try their Ngiu Chap here, but when I arrived, I noticed they had Tomyam Ngiu Chap 😋. Since I’d never tried it before, I decided to give it a go—and wow, it was truly TOMYAM KAW KAW 🤤. The broth was spicy yet so full of flavor, the kind that makes you keep eating even while sweating 😂. Definitely worth it! Can’t wait to try their original Ngiu Chap next time.

My favourite Ngiu Chap in KK. The Ngiu chap and combination their signature chili is perfect match . Besides Ngiu chap , that also selling fish slice noodle soup. Dining area is big and spacious. Plenty parking space at basement with reasonable rates. Highly recommended

The beef soup is a bit plan but the meat is really soft and tender welly cooked,I would give it just a 7/10 as I like the soup to be richer, the Kon Lau Mee is quite got 8/10, the blend cili I didn't like it 3/10. Overall not a bad place to have ngau chap

City Food Corner (CFC Kota Kinabalu City Centre) is a convenient dining spot located in the heart of Kota Kinabalu city. It offers a unique breakfast selection compared to other parts of Malaysia, with decent quality and friendly buffet-style service. The cleanliness is well-maintained, but prices are on the higher side.
Good was good. I had a Tuaran Mee. It was great but quantity was quite less. Mot something i would pay 14 Ringgits for
Aritra S — Google review
First time visiting, one of the long standing 24hr local restaurants located in the heart of Kota Kinabalu. The menu is quite vast offering multiple cuisines from fried rice to nasi lemak to local Mee tuaran(Chinese egg noodle). Drinks are pretty standard but super low quality, beware of the sweetness and condensed milk. They also have many confectionaries from bread to muffins, swiss rolls. The service is as you would expect with counter pay & table service. The atmosphere gives an authentic feel of local Sabah but we were constantly haggled by outsiders to purchase bread for them. Even after giving them some spare change(RM10 in total, yes multiple members from the same group kept coming), they will not stop haggling and eyeing us during our visit at the shop. We were frankly really appalled, just something to take note of while you are there. The food that stood out positively to me was the basic minced meat Mee tuaran, pls do not order the seafood Mee tuaran as it was much less flavourful and plain compared to the basic ver for a much higher price.. Overall, I would avoid this place if possible, but a relatively 'autentic' experience nonetheless...

I went to tapau fastfood for my lunch. I had rice with sweet and sour chicken, a piece of Mongolian chicken and a piece of fish with sauce poured over my rice. Rm9.50 only. Very cheap. The lady who scooped my lunch was able to answer all the questions that I asked regarding the food. Good service. The chicken and fish all tasted very nice. Not salty. Payment using QR code is very common in KK. Happy with visit to the 24hrs cafe. Plan to eat dinner there too.
Vincent C — Google review
Convenient place to dine in at the center of kota Kinabalu city. The shop is strategically located beside one of the oldest shopping mall in KK, the center point. Wide ranges of ala carte menu with affordable price. Economic rices available too but cost slightly pricier than usual. However the food quality is still there. Portion gave is average. Packed with people during peak hours. The shop gets slightly warmer during hot days.
Ing W — Google review
One of the older food shops in KK where you can buy pastries & buns, and also order food to eat. They've come a long way and now rebranded as CFC. They also sell mixed rice, noodles, drinks, and other items. Most locals come here to take away because of convenience. Plus, the food is not too bad. Prices are reasonable too.
David J — Google review
Workers here like daydreaming, mixed up everything we ordered even after communicating with them. After ordering Honey Chicken (which tastes sour) and Dumpling Soup Noodles, the cashier key in tomato fish soup noodles as our order. After changing it to dumpling noodles (cashier double confirmed w me if I wanted mee/meehoon), it came w just dumplings. Nasi Lemak ayam berempah took 25mins to arrive. Very bad experience here as tourists.

Open late. Cheap food! Clean. Courteous service. I ordered a TAKEOUT tomato soup with sliced fish. Average taste. No way was the soup tomato based. If you order a soup to take out to a hotel without a bowl, it's difficult to eat it.

A simple bowl of seafood noodle cost RM9.50. This is the standard of Kota Kinabalu. Seafood is fresh, the soup just nice, isn’t salty. The shop located at corner lot, right opposite Public Bank. Not the first time this McD branch in suria making a blunder, doesnt look like an inadvertant mistake. When you have already ordered for a take away, they later inform that they are out of the required items, and ask you whether you can wait for 15 minutes for them to prepare the order. Sure its alright, we are fine to wait as long as you provide us the required items. 20 minutes passed, and they passed you your food and you only realize at home that they have provided you the wrong order, and it is exactly the item that you have told them not to put in, and also how smart is that they tucked the takeaways up nicely so that you only realize things not right when you have already left the outlet. But the last straw is, this is not the first time. From an honest point of view, if the staffs here are not trained well enough or lack the proper attitude to cater standard McD service, kindly do not operate this outlet which is within CBD area and let other staffs who are more well trained and qualified to provide the service. I'll suggest the staffs here to emulate from the McD branch located beside CP. To the team of staffs on 14 May night including the supervisor who was at the counter, you know who you are and you have a very long way to learn on how to improve on your service and not to treat customers like some sort of charity event.

I work nearby, so I usually come by to have my lunch or dinner here. I'll always get a large set of burger & fries cause it's my favourite. I will say the burger may even taste better than burger king, however the fries portions are inconsistent. It comes in the large size packet, but sometimes its not completely full and feels like I ordered medium fries instead. Other than that, I would still come here.

Pezzo is a great place to enjoy delicious pizza at an affordable price. You can get a slice for around 6 ringgit or 3 slices for 18 ringgit, allowing you to mix and match your choices. The cheese pizza is particularly noteworthy for its generous amount of cheese topping. Additionally, the location is convenient as it's situated next to a stage where live music performances take place.
Very good pizza! Around 6 ringgit for a slice or 18 for 3 which you can mix and match. Cheese pizza comes with alot of cheese on it which is a bonus. Next to stage which hosts live music also.

bb.q Chicken - Center Point Sabah is conveniently located near Kota Kinabalu City Center, making it easily accessible from the Kota Kinabalu International Airport. The fare from the airport to the city center is approximately MYR 10/PHP 121 (USD 2.36/EURO 2/SGD 3.22), providing a budget-friendly option for travelers to reach this popular dining destination.
I like the location. Since there are not many shops nearby yet except tealive, so less people walking in this area. Make this place privacy. 💕 The lighting is also not so bright, so romantic. 😍 Suitable to stay while waiting for your movie showtime. Price wise I think its okay, standard franchise pricing. We ordered hot² & gangjeong.. From the menu, both flavor doesn't look like the chicken covered with sauce. But, it turns out as in the picture. 😅 Taste a bit sweet spicy like Uncle Bob K-series. But this one is a lot tender like drumstick meat. The cheese sticks are oily and taste a bit sour, too bad. 😓 The non ice cola is superb. Idkw, but taste better than the canned cola. 😂 They give you a pair of gloves instead of spoon & fork follow the Korean culture. Overall good experience, good job. 🥰

When they first opened, I always ordered the Mala Chicken set because I loved how spicy it was..But now, their Mala Chicken is mild and not spicy at all 😵‍💫 it’s more sweet than spicy..I’m a bit disappointed, but it’s still one of my favorite Korean restaurants.

Absolutely delicious.. love the taste and texture.. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful.. been my favorite since 2021. It is very understandable that the order may take a awhile due to the lack of manpower... But they should've serve it all at once instead of one by one like Mamak.. totally ruin the mood.

I've been going here maybe about 2 to 3 times just because it's located nearby to my convenient place, I like the taste, but I am always very disappointed by their service here and I really can't give any more than 1 star for that, the price is expensive, yet the service is VERY VERY bad, every time took over 20 mins just to serve ONE meal, even there is no other customers around, seriously, please improve your customer service. We go there to get food to eat, even food that cooked upon order is faster than yours. EVERYONE JUST GO OTHER BRANCH IF YOU WANT TO TRY THEIR MENU. No wonder no one is coming. Well, I too, NEVER GONNA REVISIT AGAIN. SERVICE SUCKS, TIME WASTING, RATHER TAKE THE TIME TO RATE YOU A BAD REVIEW!

Raw chicken ??? Super bloody and uncooked fried chicken and yet they serve it to their customer

First time datang sini mau cuba, tpi kena serve oleh cashier yg totally biadap.. Doesn't listen to my order properly and still keeps mentioning the drink according to the menu.. And when I asked for the drink I wanted for the 4th time, then he says there's an add-on to that.. Knp xckap awal2.. No wonder no body goes here.. Cashier has bad communication skills and no manners.. Very lousy.. This will be the last time will be coming here..

SugarBun Gaya Street is a popular dining spot among the array of restaurants in the area. The restaurant offers tasty food and a pleasant environment, accompanied by live music. Additionally, it is located near other dining options like Pezzo, making it a great place to chill and enjoy various cuisines. Visitors also highly recommend taking advantage of their latest promotion offering chicken rice at an incredibly affordable price of RM 5.
Strongly recommend on the latest promotion, Rm 5 for chicken rice! Super cheap!

[ 04-07-2020, 7.07pm ] Order 1 x 2 pcs Chicken Rice + Savoury Rice Via Food Panda. Food arrived cold and sadly the rice was uncooked. The fact that the staff was working at that time knew the rice was uncooked and still serve to customer anyway is appalling. It always been my favourite meal to order, but never again. Disappoited.

Nice food, nice environment, nice band! Also got Pezzo beside SugarBun. Highly recommended for a chill 😉

Been a regular customer for years. There's a band performing nightly. Some entertainment while you have dinner is a plus for me. Try the chicken mushroom and eco fish. One of their best dishes. For western foods, try the chickies and their mash potatoes. They are superb!

Cute and friendly staff. I only bought a RM4 Greentea yesterday but they treat me very well. The boss should increase their salary.

They made the wrong topping for me. I order peanut & choc crepe but they give me banana & cheese crepe. Plus, the topping is very few. The cheese is sour instead.

Those mentioned friendly staff must be friends of the owner. The woman is so rude, like I have to beg for her to pay her. They don't even deserve 1 star with such services

(Translated by Google) Just bought, so far satisfied with the food. But pls the staff is very no manners.. rude. When we asked, the staff answered like people who are underpaid.. the owner should check this review, the service is very slow, it takes almost an hour to wait for just a few sets, while the staff has 3 people. Btw, the very rude staff today wears a black hood with glasses and is skinny! Please answer the customer very well, the person paying is not asking for free! (Original) Baru sahaja beli, so far puas hati dengan makanan. Tapi pls lah staff sangat no manners.. biadap. Bila kita bertanya, staff jawab mcm orang kekurangan gaji.. owner patut cek this review, service pula sangat lambat, hampir mau sejam juga tunggu beberapa set saja, sedangkan staff ada 3 org. Btw yg sangat rude tu staff today pakai tudung hitam berkaca mata dan kurus! Tlg jawab pelanggan tu baik2 ckit, org bayar bukan meminta free!

Bought happy meal for my little sister as she saw the ads (get mario cart toys) and hoping to get it. Most of the staff was friendly and polite. A bit of sad part as the staff give us this. already ask the staff if can change, but cannot.hopefully can restock for other. Not a happy meal for us😅

Yesterday, I bought three pieces of chicken, but all of them were wings, which were quite small. If the chicken had been bigger, I probably wouldn’t have raised this issue. Additionally, the service was quite slow. I waited for about 30 minutes, even though the staff had initially told me it would be ready in 5 minutes. I understand that things can get busy, but I hope the restaurant can improve the speed of service. Perhaps consider adding another staff member at the front, especially at the cashier, as there were several customers in line to pay who were not attended to promptly. I hope the restaurant can improve its service for a better experience in the future.

Service pick up / Drive tru too slow !!!!! I ordered 6:18pm. Even 6:50pm still didn't get my order !
Mimie S — Google review
Precisely at 10:40pm we arrived to the drive thru section. There is a barcode to scan for ordering but the line in that area is bad to the point we can't order. Proceeded to grab staffs attention by flashing car light but got ignored instead. No assistance and acknowledgment. Please resolve this or else I believe the gas station area is much more efficient.

My first visit here was great, especially with the drive-in facilities at McDonald's. The crew promptly came to take my order, and the preparation was quite fast. Parking was available during my visit since it wasn’t during peak hours, but this place can get heavily congested, especially on weekends. Overall, so far so good.
