Modern Australian restaurant
Diner
Event venue
Amanda's on the Edge Restaurant is a charming weatherboard house nestled on grassy slopes, offering a Modern Australian menu that showcases local produce. Guests can savor magnificent views from every table or opt for a leisurely lunch on the veranda during summer, overlooking vineyards and paddocks against the backdrop of the stunning Broken Back Range. In winter, patrons can cozy up by the fire and indulge in unpretentious yet flavorful dishes that allow carefully selected ingredients to shine.
We had the pleasure of dining at this charming local restaurant nestled amidst the picturesque vineyards of Hunter Valley. The view alone is worth the visit—calm, scenic and utterly relaxing. The food was superb; each dish thoughtfully presented and full of flavour. The prawns were fresh and perfectly complemented by a rich, savoury sauce, the duck confit was fall-off-the-bone tender with a luscious glaze, and the pan-seared halibut was wonderfully crisp on the outside and moist inside, served with a vibrant tomato and spinach medley. Their selection of local wines paired beautifully with the meal, making the whole experience even more memorable. A perfect spot for a leisurely lunch with friends or a romantic dinner. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

We had our Anniversary lunch today at Amanda’s on the Edge, the staff were amazing and the food was just delicious, couldn’t have asked for better service. The set menu was just right something for everyone, the wine was also delicious The staff went out of their way to make our Anniversary lunch special. Will certainly be making a return visit

We had a wonderful lunch at Amanda’s on the Edge. The outdoor setting was absolutely beautiful, with views of the grapevines that made for a perfect, relaxing atmosphere. It was a lovely day to sit outside and enjoy everything this spot has to offer. The food was excellent — every dish was full of flavour and beautifully prepared. The Pork Belly entrée was rendered to perfection, the grilled prawns were juicy and delicious, and the Sri Lankan Chicken Curry was rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. Service was friendly, attentive, and added to the overall experience. Couldn’t have asked for more! I would definitely recommend Amanda’s on the Edge without hesitation.

Amazing food, atmosphere, service and setting. High end food and wine for an extremely reasonable price. Exceeded our expectations. Catered to our dietary needs. We will definitely be returning soon.

Spent our anniversary here. Food was exceptional and the service was great. The attention to detail was impressive. Our waiter even came with a candle and said this is your citronella candle. Which made it feel even more personal. Having our dessert brought out and an offer of a photo together was a great touch. Thank you for looking after us on our special night.
Chris W — Google review
Wow! My husband and I decided on a place we hadn’t tried before for our anniversary. What an absolute gem. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive, the food was outstanding — fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. Every dish tasted thoughtfully prepared. The Sri Lankan chicken curry was a standout! The venue itself was spotless and well-maintained, with a great vibe that made it just as suitable for a casual meal as it would be for a special occasion. We left completely satisfied and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for excellent food, warm service, and a lovely setting. A true local favourite!
Tahlia M — Google review
We booked table for 5 pax dinner on Saturday. When we arrived, a waiter welcomed us at door and took us to our table straight away. The ambience and lighting was warm and cozy with just right music playing, the restaurant was fully packed. All the food we had on point, flavorful and decent portion. For $120 3-course menu with the atmosphere, the staff and whole experience, I would say it was worth every penny💕 Definitely would recommend anyone want to visit Hunter Valley to try lunch or dinner here💖
Hồng N — Google review
We had the best time at Amanda’s on the Edge! We spent some time looking at different restaurants around the Hunter Valley, reading reviews and checking menus. As soon as we saw this menu, we didn’t hesitate for a second! It felt more original, with dishes like merguez (we’re from France and it’s such a classic, but hard to find here) and lamb. We started with the merguez dumplings (really tasty) and the haloumi fritters (absolutely delicious). For mains, my husband had the lamb and it was fantastic; while I had the fish of the day (barramundi), which was delicate and full of flavour. For dessert, we both had the chocolate raspberry mousse, a perfect ending. The rosé was excellent, the setting beautiful, and the staff wonderful (special thanks to Ayush for the fantastic service). Extra mention for the bread and butter served with the meal, such a thoughtful touch. A perfect memory for our wedding anniversary. Highly recommended!

Oishii Japanese and Thai Restaurant is a popular dining spot located at Roche Estate in Pokolbin, offering a relaxed atmosphere with high ceilings, adorned walls, and a terrace. The restaurant serves authentic Japanese and Thai cuisine with an extensive menu featuring traditional favorites like teriyaki chicken, fragrant Thai curries, sushi, sashimi, and vegetarian dishes.
Service was prompt and efficient. Food was fresh, hot and we didn’t have to wait long for courses to be served. The flavours were perfectly balanced, every mouth was delicious. Portion sizes very generous.

What a fantastic place! The food at Oishii was super delicious—every bite was a delight. And I have to say, their moscato is hands down the best I’ve ever tasted. Great atmosphere! Highly recommend this spot for anyone visiting the area!

The food was absolutely delicious! Grass fed beef sizzle plate was my all time favourite. Kind friendly attentive service, they have a beautiful outdoor seating area, unfortunately no heating for the cooler nights but still beautiful with all the lights, and a nice full of life inside seating area, that can get loud once full. We will definitely be back 🙂 only captured a few of our food photos
S B — Google review
Overall the food in Australia is very good. It is heavy with proteins like Wagu and lamb etc. so finding a rare Asian restaurant in hunter valley was a nice change. The location was easy as signage was easy to recognize. The interior was very minimalist and clean. The stag was attentive and food was better than average. The highlight was the whole fried fish and should be tried. They also had a variety of desserts. The prices were fair and we were more than satisfied.
Howard O — Google review
Foods are ok with great outside view. However staff services are horrible with bad attitude, feels like I need to please them for any extra need other then order and deliver your food. During the order, she was rushing and wasn't happy for a simple order change. Ask for medium rare and medium beed and gave us the wrong order. Will not return for sure.

Our dinner was lovely, we enjoyed all our entrees and the mains were incredible full of flavour and great portions to share. The service was great.

The food was so good we went back the next day! Beef tappanyaki was OUTSTANDING! We also loved the seafood fried rice and different curries that we ordered. Service and location were also great. Right beside Tempus Teo with ample parking and nice atmosphere. Keep up the great work.

NINETEEN Hunter Valley offers a calm, relaxed atmosphere with a casual vibe. Visitors enjoyed the Monday night schnitzel special and were impressed by the quick preparation time of their meals. The portion sizes exceeded expectations, making it great value for money. The venue features a classy restaurant upstairs and a vibrant sports bar and spacious outdoor area downstairs, offering different menus to cater to various preferences.
Came expecting the worst because of all the reviews and was expecting to give instant feedback to any rude staff but it was completely the opposite. We went because it was convenient located across for the Mecure where we were staying. I also had Accor membership which they honoured as a partner restaurant. When I went to ask someone how to order using my membership a young man came right up to me as I approached the bar and advised to order at the counter. Went to the counter and got served right away by a young lady. She gave great service too. Food overall was fine. I had lobster prawn pasta (nothing to write home about but a decent meal, kids had cheeseburger yum, and hubby had ribs which he enjoyed. Garlic bread delicious too. Atmosphere nice and cosy with several different place to eat, the place was huge even with rooftop but it was too cold to head there. Thank you to the team for being so welcoming and helpful. Plates were also cleaned promptly and it definitely felt like a well-serviced establishment. I also don't mind the qr code ordering system it's just that I had Accor membership so needed to use the counter. Family friendly I recommend for a casual dining experience or great for drinks.

One of the worst experiences I had. No one tells you it’s a self service venue and you are just looking around calling the waiters when they don’t bother to come at all. Secondly the food wait time was much longer than the usual 20 minutes. The steak we ordered was cold as ice. It felt like it was made hours ago and just left there to cool down and then serve us. Didn’t want to mention this but after all the worst experience, I felt the place was a bit racist. I saw with my own eyes their waiters going to serve other people with a smile and when I asked for a steak cutting knife, the waitress gave me an eye roll as she had to go to the kitchen to get it. If it was on the table where they put all the other cutlery, I would have gotten it myself and not ask her. It was such a bad experience as we were in the hunter valley for first time and I didn’t know that such big and famous place would be a disaster. I felt so bad after all this that when they served me cold steak, i didn’t even have the heart to complain due to their rude behavior. Hope you learn something and not do this with others.

Loved the cocktails here. $12 cocktails on Friday night was a hit. Food was ok this time round however for the price it is crazy! Ordered a pasta and it was $42 😖😖😖 The vibe was great for Friday night but very busy. Music good but very loud.
Jess D — Google review
The atmosphere is great, foods are fantastic! I think it’s the best foods that I had, compare to any bar & restaurant so far. We would definitely come back and I’ll bring my fam & friends come with. The taste are so sooo tasty & the steak cooked perfectly! Definitely recommended 👍

We stayed nearby so ate here a few times last week. It’s a cosy pub with a bistro upstairs and a sports bar downstairs. The food is excellent pub classics downstairs like ribs, steaks, parmies - all good! Live music on weekends and a pretty outdoor area with lots of garland lights. Upstairs was closer to fine dining in the meals but not the service. The service is very self serve- had to pick up meals from the servery which I found a bit weird in a bistro with such good food. Otherwise good.

I had lunch with my mum and my two kids. Shortly after the meal, I started having a stomach ache and had to rush to the bathroom. I thought it was just me, but my son and mum also got stomach aches and diarrhea. Only my daughter was fine because she didn’t eat the chicken burger. When I got home, I had another bout of diarrhea. The place and environment were nice though.

Modern Australian restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Pokolbin, Restaurant Botanica offers a modern Australian dining experience with a focus on locally sourced ingredients and classic French cooking techniques. The restaurant's light-filled setting provides picturesque views of the surrounding vineyards and kitchen garden. Guests can indulge in generous and creative dishes, featuring fresh seafood, prime cuts of beef, and an array of roasted, pickled, preserved, and baked vegetables.
Sublime! An indulgent experience capturing a beautiful balance of taste with style. A divine selection of entrees and mains that were perfectly complimented with your choice of wine and spirits. The style, presentation, and the ambience of the restaurant was warm, romantic, and charming. Excellence in hospitality, with professional and friendly customer service. A stand out restaurant nestled in beautiful grounds of the Hunter. Well done!
Hila — Google review
Exquisite! I was blown away by the flavours, the elegance and restraint served up at Restaurant Botanica. This culinary trifecta is not easily achievable and must be commended. With an arm twisting local and beyond wine list, this place is hard to ignore. My family and I indulged ourselves. Tempura prawns, tuna sashimi, crispy chicken, beef carpaccio, gnocchi, beef short rib, malt ice cream and dark chocolate torte. On the surface, these don't sound jaw dropping. And really, the dishes of fancy restaurants sound like a collection of ingredients. But add in talented chef prowess and great service and these collections of ingredients sing. We'll be back!
Neville S — Google review
Our second visit and did not disappoint after a memorable first visit. The dishes are Japanese inspired and blend a range of unusual ingredients to great effect. Our waiter was relatively new but was attentive and helpful.
Marc C — Google review
What a beautiful location! I loved everything about this place — the view, the food, and the sunset. My photos don’t do it justice, but the flavours were absolutely magnificent. We started with the lobster bisque and duck parfait — both rich and perfectly balanced. Then came the mushrooms with garlic, done in so many creative ways that every bite tasted different and full of flavour — easily my favourite dish of the night! The chicken followed and it was just as impressive — so juicy and tender that every chicken I have in the future will seem dry by comparison. This was my second favourite dish. A big thank you to the amazing team for their warm service and to the chef for such incredible flavours. Truly a memorable dining experience!

A very intimate and picturesque fine dining restaurant that served as a special and memorable place to have our honeymoon. Not only did we thoroughly devour the special set menu for dinner that was carefully curated by head chef Adam Frey, he ALSO facilitated an impromptu and delicious afternoon lunch for my very hungry husband when options in the Valley were limited! Highly recommend Restaurant Botanica, a wonderful experience where we shall return to in due course ✨
Kennedy S — Google review
The atmosphere of this restaurant is serene, peaceful and absolutely stunning. We could even see wallabies in the vineyards from our table which was amazing. The food was delicious, unique, and well priced for a fine-dining establishment. The cocktails were to die for. I can't wait to return!

An unforgettable dining experience at Botanica We had one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve ever had in the Hunter Valley at Botanica. The restaurant has only recently opened, but everything — from the atmosphere to the food — feels refined and deeply thought out. A special mention to Loki, the manager, who made our evening truly exceptional. He is incredibly friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. As someone who is intolerant to onion and garlic, I often find dining out a bit challenging, but Loki handled everything with such care and confidence. He assured me I would leave full, happy, and satisfied — and he was absolutely right. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour, and the service was impeccable. Botanica is an absolute gem, and I can’t wait to return!
Anna P — Google review
Easily booked online for a dinner on a Saturday evening. Service was excellent - constant checking us and topping up drinks and asking if we need anything so we never had to ask. We had the tasting menu of 5 courses. Food was fresh, flavours suitably Australian and not too challenging. I took my teenagers who ate everything. The servings are generous so I would recommend an early lunch so you have plenty of room (or skipping lunch). Extensive wine list which we did not sample. The house made sodas were spritzy and reasonably priced. Lovely ambience with views over the vineyard and music is at perfect level for quiet private conversations. I would recommend this for couples, adult social gatherings and families with mature children who can sit and eat a meal. They do ask about dietary concerns. Plenty of parking - apparently have EV charging but we didn't get to plug in. I would go back after I had tried all the dining in the area!

Baumé is a casual, family-style restaurant that prides itself on using the best local ingredients to create a memorable dining experience. The menu features small tasting plates, shared signature dishes, and delicious daily pizza specials with dough made in-house and baked in a Moretti pizza oven. Additionally, guests can enjoy Mediterranean-inspired share plates and slow-braised Italian lamb shoulder. It's the perfect place for group gatherings or a lighter meal with options like pastas and house-made wood fire pizzas.
A truly memorable dining experience! From the moment we arrived, everything felt warm and inviting. The presentation of every dish was stunning — especially the desserts, which were not only beautifully plated but incredibly delicious. The sticky date pudding with caramel tuile was a standout, and the cheesecake with berry compote was divine. The mains were just as impressive — perfectly cooked salmon with a crispy skin and creamy purée, fall-apart tender braised lamb, and succulent chicken in a rich, aromatic sauce. The fresh salad with nuts and pear added a refreshing contrast. The attention to detail, flavors, and overall atmosphere made it a perfect meal with family and friends. Highly recommended for any special gathering!

The pizza we ordered — The Philly — was absolutely amazing! The cream cheese base was delicious and definitely made it one of the best pizzas I’ve ever tried. The atmosphere was cozy, chill, and quiet — a perfect spot to relax. We visited around 5 p.m. on Sunday and tried their special passion fruit cocktail, which was fabulous! Overall, this place made my little weekend trip even more enjoyable and tasty. I’d definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for great food and a comfortable vibe. 🍕🍹✨

SO GOOD! We had the chicken wings, beef brisket, baked potatoes, spaghetti del mare and sticky date pudding. Everything was SO delicious, the service was fast (even with a full house) and the staff were all so lovely. This is our new fave restaurant in the Hunter Valley. Thanks guys!

Wait staff were so friendly. Visited on a Sunday afternoon and only the outdoor patio was open for light meals. Had pizza and salad and was surprised by how delicious it was. Far exceeded expectations. Lovely atmosphere.
Tiana — Google review
My partner and I had the butcher's special lunch which was a 300g wagu striploin surf and turf. We were there as a recommendation from a neighbouring restaurant that we had planned to go to but were setting up for a private function. The waiter explained that the steak was a reverse searing process which I was excited to try. It was tender and delicious and was accompanied with king prawns, home made hollinadaise, seasoned fries and a microherb salad. It was all delicious, and I got through the 300g Steak effortlessly. My only criticism is that the fries were heavily seasoned for my palette. The service was great. Martin, the waiter from France, was friendly and knowledgeable, explaining to us that the name of restaurant Baume, which is French, means a measurement of the sugar content in wine. For a quiet Thursday, we enjoyed ourselves and the grapevine growing over the pergola and festoon lights were very beautiful. The surrounding gardens were equally as tranquil. Before leaving we visited the two lovely young lads from Ireland who work in the cafe/deli at the side and bought some sweet pastries to take home.
Min W — Google review
Delicious dining experience at Baume. We were two families, each with young kids and ordered a variety of dishes. There was pizza, pasta, fries, chicken wings, juices and dessert. Everything was quickly served without much waiting and tasted great. The staff were warm and welcoming and the service stood out. One of the staff member’s took time to walk us through the menu and mentioned that their food was freshly prepared. Their desserts were also prepared by one of Australia’s special chef. The overall ambience was relaxed and family friendly. Happy to recommend this place to anyone and we later enjoyed their wine tasting experience.

Stumbled across this beautiful establishment on Sunday without a reservation. What a beautiful estate the restaurant and winery is located - you couldn't ask for a better location. Was lucky to get a table and dine in. Sarah invited us in on an exhausted Sunday evening with almost all tables booked out. Her attentive service, knowledge and friendly personality is what the hospitality industry needs more of and I commend her for making our evening extremely pleasant. Food was extraordinarily good. Ordered the lamb shoulder as suggested and the chicken. Came back the following day for dessert! Will be back again!

Wow the aracinis were soooo good so yum sauce was DELISH and every bite l was keen for the next. Highly recc!! The steak was also a surprise, so tender and yum!!! A little bit over seasoned with salt. The only l we hated was the pizza it tasted like coles or dominos kind of quality and was really disappointing. DONT ORDER THE PIZZA if u like a thin crust pizza rich with toppings, it was rather thic and heavy to eat.

Esca Bimbadgen Restaurant offers a modern Australian dining experience in an upscale setting with stunning views of the Hunter Valley. Every Friday night, guests can enjoy live music on the balcony while savoring sunset drinks before indulging in a delectable dinner. The restaurant prides itself on serving simple yet elegant dishes made with locally sourced produce, perfectly complementing the region's wine offerings.
For my birthday, my husband surprised me with the most beautiful dinner date at Esca Restaurant. From the moment we arrived, everything felt wrapped in peace. The staff were so warm and kind, making our night extra memorable with a sweet dessert crowned with a glowing birthday candle. 🎂🥂 The food was divine, the wine was perfect, and the ambience as always was simply beautiful. A night to remember. Thank you!

Long weekend in the Vines- first visit for many years- so, where to have a quality dinner on a busy Saturday night? ESCA at Bimbadgen Estate more than fulfilled our expectations- friendly staff, impeccable service (even to asking if we needed an Uber or cab ordered at the end of our evening). Nothing was too much trouble. The food was a fixed 3 or 4 course menu with a series of choices in each category- but the quality, expert preparation and presentation was superb. Befitting a top Sydney eatery, this was fantastic food and, very reasonably priced. We chose a Shiraz grown and cellared on the premises and expertly presented. Thank you all for a great night out to savour and remember. Only downside was the hard floors walls and ceilings which echoed conversations around the room. We will be back. Highly recommended.

We were very disappointed with our dining experience at Esca yesterday. We had been told it was fantastic by our friends that were with us, hence why we booked. The price bracket did not reflect the service or food served. Very underwhelmed. Some dishes were fantastic, but most were below average. If you go, order the artichoke, salmon gravalax and Stracciatella for entree - they were delicious. We had 4 different mains - the pork belly was outstanding but the fish, duck and ravioli were very, very average. The young lady serving us was very pleasant but had not been trained on the food or drinks menu. We were brought champagne glasses for our white wine. Very over priced for what we got. The view was amazing but I'm afraid we definitely won't be back or recommending Esca.

I was surprised by the unique combination of kingfish with a green curry sauce and their dipping sauce for the fries😆👍🏻 We also ordered the Moroccan chicken, the chicken meat was well cooked, however the egg plant (comes as a side) was a bit too salty. Overall, the experience was lovely with beautiful views and great service. I ordered a Gamay (not their in-house wine, but one from Victoria) and it was superb! Really enjoyed that glass! A bit overpriced, but worth it for a great lunch, especially after a long day in the hot weather.

Had a lovely meal here with two girlfriends to celebrate our birthdays. The service was amazing. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. The food was fantastic. Serving sizes were quite good - enough for the number of courses (we had three) but not super tiny like some high end restaurants are. We visited at night so didn’t get to see the view - maybe next time. Highly recommend for a high end meal out at the Hunter Valley that isn’t seriously expensive.
Nic J — Google review
The view is great, the space wonderful. The food missed the mark in places. The Tatar was completely overshadowed by the capers, if the plate looks more green the red you went too far. Hand chop is always appreciated but knife skills might need upgrading. The zucchini flowers, very generous portion and very rich, less is more with Gorgonzola. However the pork was delicious although plating was more bistro than fine dining and duck cooked very well. Service efficient, hardly missing a beat even with a large function, but lacked warmth, and failing at hiding frustrations with guests. I don’t think one would ever complain about a lunch here but I wouldn’t be sending any post cards either.

Harkham Bar, Restaurant and Cellar Door is a unique destination in the south of the Hunter region. The cellar door offers an eclectic and vibrant tasting room where you can sample creative, pure-feeling wines crafted by owner and winemaker Richie Harkham. Recently, they have expanded to include a restaurant and bar that pairs casual Italian fare with their small batch, natural wines. The laid-back, a la carte menu is perfect for a relaxed lunch after wine tasting.
We recently celebrated a very special 80th birthday at Harkham Wines, and the entire evening was absolutely exceptional. Our group of 18 was warmly welcomed, and the team went above and beyond to make the night feel effortless and memorable. We enjoyed a set menu, and every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour. The two pasta dishes were real standouts—rich, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. The chicken dish was also a highlight, incredibly moist and succulent, which is no easy feat when catering for a large group! The cocktails were another hit of the night—creative, well-balanced, and beautifully crafted. The standout was the cheekily named “I’m a local… where’s my discount?” – fun, fresh, and instantly a crowd favourite. Service was impeccable. The staff were friendly, attentive, and wonderfully patient with our large group. They managed the flow of the evening with ease and made sure the guest of honour felt truly special. From the setting to the food, drinks, and atmosphere, everything was spot on. Thank you, Harkham Wines, for helping us celebrate such a meaningful occasion—we’ll be raving about this night for a long time to come.

Just had lunch and a wine tasting with my girlfriend there. Lovely evening with great food and drinks. But most of all the service was the best out of all the wineries we visited in the hunter valley. We were served by Taylor all evening. She was very accommodating and very bubbly. We were both impressed by her service. Highly recommend anyone coming here if you stay in the hunter valley

Had a wonderful lunch at Harkham Wines Restaurant – absolutely divine! We enjoyed the tacos and salt & pepper squid, and every bite was packed with flavour. Tried the Hark Angel Shiraz from their natural wine selection and it was just lovely. The service was outstanding – warm smiles, friendly and informative staff who really looked after us. This place is definitely on our must-visit-again list!

Came for dinner on our first night in the Hunter, and this was the perfect welcome. Excellent food that seemed to be designed around the wines so the pairings were excellent. We loved it so much we came back the next day for the tasting and were lucky enough to be guided though it with Richie, the winemaker. Would recommend Harkham for food and wine!

Satisfied group of five! We were looking for a relaxed atmosphere with wine tasting and a bite to eat. We were greeted with warmness, and nothing was a bother. We tasted numerous wines and enjoyed amazing food (prawns, lamb, chicken, aranchini...the lust goes on). Beautiful atmosphere, even better chocolate liqueur! Very happy. Thank you ❤️

We love Taylor!! Went here for some small bites and a chilled evening wine, came out after a 12 wine tasting experience, stomachs full from great quality eats (thanks Rob!) and amazing service from Taylor, she had great knowledge and a bubbly infectious personality that made our experience so memorable and enjoyable! Lucky to be served by her! Can’t wait to come back :)

Absolutely beautiful experience! Harkham in the Hunter Valley is such a charming and peaceful place. The wine is exceptional — especially the natural wines, full of character and flavour. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and make you feel right at home. The atmosphere is relaxed with stunning views and a real personal touch that makes the visit unforgettable. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the Hunter Valley — a true gem! 🍷✨

The food was great, but the manager was extremely arrogant and condescending. Coming from a hospitality background myself, I was genuinely shocked by his attitude and lack of customer service. From the moment we walked in, he made offhand comments about how “people in the Hunter need to calm down,” which immediately set the tone. They had run out of several menu items, and when we ordered Tommy’s margaritas, they arrived overly smoked with mezcal, watery, and without salt. When we mentioned this, the manager refused to remake them in the traditional style and responded with passive-aggressive comments about how he “knew best.” Throughout our meal, tables around us remained cluttered with empty plates, and the music, loud metal, felt completely out of place for the setting. Overall it was a disappointing experience, despite the food being great and our waitress doing her best.

What an great find of a restaurant Mel’s service was outstanding. The food was superb and wine very good and reasonably priced. We loved everything about the restaurant and will be back We can highly recommend it Loved the location too - driving on a dirt track road for part of the way made it extra rural 😊👍

Hi Kris & Team, Just wanted to thank you for such a lovely afternoon. The food was delicious and we were made to feel very special on our 40th Anniversary. We forgot to thank the chef as we were talking to the English couple with small children as we left. Please pass on our thanks - the dessert was every bit as good as we hoped and we so appreciate his efforts for us in re-creating it. Warm regards Liz & Alan

Chris was amazing from our first meet and greet! Recommend delicious coffee at Rusty Dog because Chris’s coffee machine was being repaired. Chris’s history and wine making knowledge is fantastic! Craig is a great guy, so funny and very persuasive with the menu! Thank you Craig! Keep up the great work! I would highly recommend Ridge View. We just learned that there is accommodation on site. We will be back! Cheers, Darryl and Vicki.

We had an absolutely BEAUTIFUL WONDERFUL PERFECT wedding reception dinner at Harvest at Ridgeview! From the day we stopped by unannounced to check it out, the manager Kris was personable, helpful and great about communication. She gave me her card and was always quick to respond to questions and requests (which were all catered to flexibly) as we planned out the night. The location is stunning and the service on the night was wonderful. The team coordinated our cake delivery with our baker, displayed it nicely for us for photos, and cut and served it before packing up all the leftovers for us. Everyone raved about the food and they catered to our TON of dietary restrictions with ease. There were so many thoughtful touches that I didn’t expect, such as fresh flowers in vases on the tables and drink menus with our names printed on them- and we didn’t even book the whole restaurant, just booked our group! I only wish I had been able to thank Kris in person on the night as well! Thank you Kris, and the Ridgeview team!!!

Well, This is a hidden treasure! A bit off the beaten track, but is so well worth your while. There is easy parking to the front door. We had such a lovely day and we were treated very well by Craig. The scenery is very relaxed looking out on the vineyard over a small dam with reaves and bird wild life. You can sit inside or out, still under cover to an open deck . The service was impeccable and so was the quality of food and their own wine is matched. I highly recommend Ridge View as a higher end restaurant for your special occasion or just to spoil yourselves.

I recently photographed a wedding at RidgeView and had an amazing time! The couple stand at the onsite accommodation - perfectly situated just far enough away from each other to have privacy the night before their wedding, but close enough to travel between for your photographer. This accommodation is also a short distance away from the ceremony, reception and photography locations. It has that large Hunter Valley vibe without any elements being to far apart. The Ceremony was hosted on the deck with a vineyard backdrop. When the walked up the hill for bridal party photos - we had the option to shoot in the vineyards, large open fields and beautiful gardens close to the restaurant. The reception took place inside with enough space in the restaurant that also connects to the external deck.

Restaurant
Yellow Billy Restaurant, located at 697 Hermitage Road in Pokolbin, is a must-visit spot for food enthusiasts. Chef Sam Alexander and sommelier Pas Hester bring over a decade of experience to the table, offering bold transcontinental flavors cooked in a custom-built fire pit. The restaurant is known for its excellent value for money and standout dishes like lamb ragout pappardelle and pork terrine.
The venue is decorated with exquisite taste. The outdoor area is beautiful with plenty of seating options with views over the garden. The service was attentive and efficient. I liked the fact that they didn't rush on removing the plates once we finished which is something common in Australian restaurants. The dishes are creatively cooked. I especially liked the fusion of Indian species. I would highlight the ribs and cod as they were well prepared and flavoursome. There were some inconsistencies with the taste of some dishes. For example, the octopus needed a bit of salt as the acidity of the tomato was overpowering its taste, the zucchini flowers were a bit tasteless and the focaccia was too soft. Overall, it was a great experience and I will come back 🙂

Fantastic experience, randomly recommended by friends, wasn’t expecting a such high service and good quality with a middle of nowhere. Perfect food and wine pairing is amazing. Staff is sooo nice, I completely enjoy my dishes so is my partner. Highly recommended.

Absolutely spectacular food, unusual and beautifully presented. Loved all dishes but particularly the Murray cod and kangaroo tartare. Staff were lovely but it was a bit confusing with so many different staff attending and would love to have heard more about the dishes and chef. I would also love to see a bit more love on the kids menu in future - the fish and chips was fine but something more homemade would be wonderful. Overall a wonderful experience - thank you.

Found Yellow Billy on Google Maps. Liked the reviews, location and the menu. I'm a big fan of live fire cooking and this didn't disappoint. Flexible $110 2 course menu was our choice so we had 2 starters, three mains and one dessert between three of us, all as sharing dishes. All dishes were superb 👌🏻 Great presentation, locally sourced ingredients, some grown onsite. Stand outs in a great line up were the prawn croquettes, lamb shoulder and the steak. Special mention for the amazing creamy spuds. Highly recommended.

Lunch today at Yellow Billy was outstanding. Fantastic service from all the staff, attentive and knowledgeable. Choose to share 3 entrees and 3 mains with my two co-diners, which also came with complimentary olives and house made focaccia. Could not fault a single dish, all stars in their own right. Beautifully cooked and presented, without being pretentious. The newly added Kangaroo Tartar was the stand out, show casing some stunning native ingredients. Truely a credit to the Hunter Valley dining scene!

Wow ! Amazing quality ! Everything we ordered was amazing I couldn't even have time to take a photo of the octopus or the pork rillete entrees as I ate it so fast ! Randomly drove by and decided to give it a try was a bit hungry... braised short ribs melted in my mouth !

While food & wine pairings are entirely personal, I can objectively say that the portion sizes here are shockingly small. Especially for a $60 tasting. There was barely enough to contemplate if the food was actually compatible with the glass it had been paired with. We found better value and better quality tastings for $15 (without food) at most other reputable venues in The Hunter. Everyone in our group found the pairings here to be a little chaotic, sometimes even completely unsuitable, except for the sausage roll & Shiraz combo. And once inside the cellar door we were disappointed by how flat the decor felt, in contrast to the striking architecture of the building’s exterior. We chose Hungerford’s $60 “Epic” tasting over Brokenwood’s $75 “Match Experience” because Hungerford appeared online to be better value than Brokenwood. This was not the case. Each tiny dish was essentially just a little re-heat bite. So unfortunately we didn’t think there was anything “Epic” about this tasting.

Nestled in the picturesque Hunter Valley, The Valley Brewhouse is a charming restored brick pub and hotel that offers an inviting atmosphere for both locals and travelers. With outdoor pools, a hot tub, and even a tennis court, it’s the perfect spot to unwind after exploring the region. This microbrewery takes pride in crafting local brews right on-site, featuring an impressive selection that includes everything from dark lagers to Belgian blondes and unique kettle sours infused with passion fruit.
Located at Wine Country Drive, Nulkaba, New South Wales, Australia 🇦🇺 This was a really lovely place to have lunch on our visit to the Hunter Valley. We were looking for somewhere to have a nice meal and literally came across this place by chance. I had the Honey BBQ Grilled Prawns and they were delicious 😋. I also shared a serving of the garlic bread with my friend and it was also amazing. It’s a really well designed establishment with the tables spread out, not squashed in. The large lounge was a big plus. I loved the actual brewery and the old kiln’s on the property. They add a great touch to the overall look of the place. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. Answering our questions with a smile. So helpful. The prices are very reasonable and the live entertainment in the forecourt was great. The menu had a wonderful selection of dishes to choose from, a bit extra than your typical bistro menu. There’s plenty of parking 🅿️ and very good toilet 🚻 facilities, including accessible toilets. I would definitely recommend visiting, a big thumbs up from me! 👍👍👍

Terrific beer and good atmosphere with live music on the Friday night we were there, though one of the worst meals of my life. Eggplant lasagna was dried up, small and tasteless. The curry was watery and bland. Other meals for our group were overcooked.

We’re locals and often come here for beers, wine and food, but what we got last Saturday was honestly terrible. I don’t like leaving bad reviews (especially since I work in hospitality myself), but we invited our parents for lunch and it was such a let-down. It felt like we were served the last scraps before the kitchen closed. My mum paid $30 for a chicken breast that was barely 100g, with a salad that looked like a cow had chewed it first. A couple of chips with the burger, just thrown on the plate to make it look like more ,not good at all. And I won’t even get started on the burnt schnitzel… We also waited an hour for the food, which I can understand if you’re busy, but please get the kitchen in order 🤌🏽This was a really disappointing experience.

Monday - buy one, get one free. Great value. I took my friends here on Monday and we had wonderful food. Friendly service. Plenty of places to sit (inside or out), bottle of wine was a very reasonable price. Overall, highly recommended.

3.5 stars. We had a nice time here on a sunny afternoon in Winter. Prices are fair, $50 for a burger and tacos, $9 schooners. Outdoor play equipment for the kids. Only complaint is that they have a QR code for food but they don’t bring it out. Seems a bit odd to have it both ways, you order, you collect. Pay attention to your phone or your food will just sit there for 20 mins like ours did
Kealan T — Google review
No courtesy bus - webpage phone number wrong I saw their ad in a local tourist brochure advertising a courtesy bus “everyday”. Their website also advertised this. I called the number that is on the website but it was disconnected. I tried the number on Google but it put me through to an automated assistant who gave me the phone number very quickly including the international country code. It took 4 goes to write it down as the assistant couldn’t text it to me. When I finally spoke to someone they said that there was no courtesy bus tomorrow. I mentioned the problems with the website and they seemed to know about it. It was very frustrating. If you are going to advertise a service, you need to be able to deliver it. And you need to keep your website up to date.

Nestled in the heart of Hunter Valley Resort, Matilda Bay Brewhouse is a beloved spot for locals and tourists alike. The chic setting with high ceilings offers a perfect ambiance to savor Italian staples, burgers, and boutique beers. As the oldest brewery in Pokolbin, it's an ideal starting or ending point for your tour. With 12 beer options available, you can indulge in a tasting paddle while enjoying the brewmaster's notes.
Definitely worth visiting while on the Hunter. Their range of beers are tasty and will water down that thirst. The Nitro stout and the alcoholic ginger beer are excellent. The nitro is unfortunately not bottled or canned so can only be drunk at the site so definitely give it a go if you are partial to a porter or stout. It is rich and creamy with chocolate and coffee notes. It is one of the best stouts I've had, up there with a Mornington. The staff are friendly as well, so definitely pop in for a visit.

Went to Matilda Bay for dinner on the 1st of January and only had a set menu, which is reasonable to keep up with the amount of guests they would have however the meals were way overpriced. They did however bring out a slice of bread with butter whilst waiting for our main and dessert. Ordered the pork belly for main and was delicious however not filling at all, with ordering the chocolate mousse for dessert which was also delicious with the touch of fruit they put with it. Service was average with waiters not looking very happy.
Kayla C — Google review
Cool brewery to visit however the restaurant is quite old. We had to get the banquet and the food was average. The meat was cooked really well, soft and tender but was just lacking some flavour. The best part is you can order beer paddles to your table and get a free midi from it too when you return your paddle. Id recommend trying both the light and dark paddles to see which you like. You will love this place if you enjoy pale ale’s but personally I love lagers and there wasn’t many options for that.
Annabelle — Google review
Fast service. But the door greeter did not like that we didn't have a booking. The dining rooms were pretty well spaced and not too full. Food service came out very quickly same with drinks. Online ordering was simple enough to understand and pretty quick. Some parts have a very beer housey vibe to it.
Janson C — Google review
Great place for a change from the wineries. There's a few good beers on tap and I'd recommend getting the tasting platter - it's good value at $15 for 6 beers and you get a middy of your favorite when you return the paddle to the bar. The only downside is the lack of ambience in the bar area - maybe a bit of music would liven the place up a bit but other than that great place to check out

We stayed a couple of nights in the Hunter Valley resort. Therefore we had dinner 2 nights there. Food was great, Lamb Rump was cooked to perfection. Tap beers and cider are ice cold (perfect). The wine tasting is really nice, fun, suitable for people who know about wine and for those who have no knowledge at all. David conducted the wine tasting, was good and enjoyable. Breakfast is poor, but dinner is a great option, you can have as much wine as you want and just walk back to the room. Also great to enjoy a midday drink or dessert looking at the vineyard. Good price, good portions.

I went here recently with some friends, the service was very quick and the beers are amazing. I had a very average buttermilk chicken but my friends loved their pizza's.

Came here as part of a wine tasting tour. The portions of Calamari and beef patty were generous, but the pickled ginger was a little overpowering and the calamari arrived soggy and a little cold. Unless it was meant as a cold dish....? :) The Beer Sampling Paddle was fun, and you get a complimentary Midi-sized beer of your choice if you return the beer paddle (I don't know why... do people usually steal/keep the paddle as a souvenir or from being in an intoxicated state. I'd recommend the Ginger Beer for the free midi!

We visited Bimbadgen for their Friday live music night. Such a wonderful atmosphere, gorgeous views and delicious pizza! Great happy hour deals too. Couldn’t ask for better🍷🍕

A beautiful location with stunning views of the valley but the food and service was very average. With a self-service order at the outdoor bar and buzzer type setup, the service was a bare bones minimum of "sit anywhere that doesn't say reserved" and "what would you like" so not bad but not good either. A very limited drinks menu that has no clues that you're in a winery. The pizza was average at best, with pre-made bases, the only saving grace was the wood fire oven. The salad had rotten leaves and wasn't good. I wish it was better because I really like Bimbadgen.

*I went for lunch and therefore didn't sample any wine at this time. Beautiful outdoor seating a nice view looking over the vineyard. One must order, pay and collect food from the outside counter. The food service is very quick even though it was busy (on a sunny Saturday afternoon). The pizza is fresh and delicious.

We ordered a pizza that was clearly meant to include olives, but they were missing. When I raised this with the cashier, she asked me to bring the pizza over to show her. After speaking with the chef, she seemed surprised that olives were even supposed to be included, I had to show her the menu. Strangely, they asked me what I wanted to do about it, as if the resolution was up to me. I requested a replacement, but neither the cashier nor the chef offered an apology. Instead, I was handed a lukewarm, subpar pizza. The chef was particularly rude throughout the interaction, which made the experience even more unpleasant.

The pizza was amazing, but the wine tasting was a strange experience. Our server kept coming over to offer the next wine and so you would have to chug the prior tasting while she explained the next one. We all ended up buying a bottle of the wrong wine because we’d got them confused! Beautiful venue. Definitely book ahead for the weekends.

This place was only recommended by staff where we had our wine tasting experience. And happy to say we were pleasantly surprised. Fantastic wood fire pizza. Gelato was just okay. For Pizza We ordered 1. Margerita 5/5 - classic pizza can't go wrong with this one 2. Fungi 5/5 - Liked the savouriness of the mushroom on pizza. 3. Pork and Fennel 4/5 - was just okay, a bit underwhelming Will recommend trying out this place if you crave pizza. Their wood fire crust is superb. PS. The view here is okay. Feel free to check out the barrels and distillery.

This is a beautiful alfresco cafe nestled in Hunter Valley Gardens. I brought my family here for brunch and it absolutely did not disappoint. The pancakes were fluffy and smelled amazing. It was paired with a passion fruit sauce and cream which gave it a sweet tangy taste. Additionally, paired with the berries, it was so refreshing and addictive! The chilli scrambled eggs were also a stunner! The beautiful creamy scrambled eggs were paired with perfectly charred chorizo bits which made it a savoury bomb. There was some chilli oil and mayo around the plate too which added depth to the scrambled eggs. The sourdough toast below was warm yet not tough at all. Also, coffee was obviously the best. Definitely do visit this place is you are around the area!

The food was really nice, but unfortunately the overall experience wasn’t great. We were told there would be a 25-minute wait for the food, which we were happy to accept, but it ended up taking around 50 minutes. I also ordered an orange juice (from a bottle) that took about 30 minutes to arrive. While the food was tasty, the long wait times made the experience a bit disappointing. Hopefully this can be improved, as the food itself was good.

Amazing spot in the Hunter region for a Brekky/brunch. Great food but gets really busy which means long order queues and a bit of a wait to get the food served. But the wait is very worth it as everything we ordered tasted yummmyyy!

Very good food and service. Beautiful, relaxing setting amongst the trees. Serving sizes are a little smaller than some places, but sweets are generous and good quality. The venue is close to the main roundabout in the Hunter Valley Gardens. It is not well signposted so is difficult to find. Opening hours are more generous than many restaurants, with lunch still available after 2 p.m.

Walked in with 7 people including a baby and sat at a table with 6 seats and moved a table together for space to fit our baby and pram in. They said we were not allowed to even though the cafe was empty, there was so many empty tables. The waitress had a bad attitude and didn't understand we needed space for the baby. We weren't offered another table, only the 6 seater. Worked out great though, we went to the cafe right across from it called Lime Leaf and was super friendly, great food and had a more local feeling.
Brett S — Google review
I attended this cafe today to order a fresh juice (on the menu each ingredient is listed). After ordering and paying $8 for it, I saw her pour a 1 litre bottle of Impressed Juice (that you can buy from Woolworths for $5.50). When my friend asked why they were using it from a bottle and not making it fresh, the staff member said the menu says ‘cold pressed’ - the menu does not say this. The staff member stated it says ‘fresh’ on the bottle. My friend and I requested a refund which was provided.
Tram D — Google review
I ordered a juice today to my table assuming it was freshly made, as the menu listed individual ingredients and gave it a unique name. However, I later discovered it was poured from a bottled juice that can be purchased at Woolworths for around half the price of what I paid. I found this quite disappointing, as the menu presentation implied it was freshly prepared. Charging $8 for a small glass of pre-packaged juice that costs about $5 per litre at the supermarket is wrong.
