Conveyor belt sushi restaurant
Sushi restaurant
Genki Sushi offers a unique dining experience that sushi lovers won't want to miss. This Japan-based chain features a fun conveyor belt system where diners can select from an array of freshly prepared sushi and maki rolls, all at wallet-friendly prices starting around 120 yen. The menu is user-friendly, available in multiple languages including English, Korean, and Chinese, making it accessible for international visitors.
We came here following a recommendation - it is brilliant. You order your food from a tablet, then a delicious sushi and other types of food come to you on a automated trolley. A fab experience. Really good value. A must! Top tip come just before or just after lunch or dinner - this place can get very popular :-)
Gareth — Google review
Absolutely amazing sushi restaurant! All the sushi was freshly prepared and delicious. There is a time limit of 45 minutes as they are usually very busy however as you order using a tablet (in english) at your table and the food arrives on a conveyor belt there is not a very long wait for your food to arrive. A must try for anyone who likes sushi!!!
Kevin M — Google review
Interesting restaurant because there are always foreigners queue up outside! This is a chain Sushi train restaurant located in the middle of Shibuya. The price range is low, meaning you can try different kind of sushi with affordable price. They also provide some "foreigners friendly" food like chicken nuggets or chips! :) The sushi quality is fair, they are fresh! The ordering experience is very interesting too. You are given a tablet and you can make all your order from there. From drinks to sushi, or even your bill. The tablet comes with different languages (Chinese, English, Korean and Japanese). Once you ordered the food, they will be delivered by a little train on the rail in front of you. Dont forget to push the button to send it back! overall service is good in this price range!
Billy H — Google review
Great, cheap and delicious. Gets really busy and you might have to wait. Everything is self service and at your seat. Chopsticks, cups, sauces, water and etc. All ordering is done by an iPad, which has english. You can order up to 3 dishes at a time. It comes very quickly via the sushi train. Has great options for non raw fish eaters, like udon, fried foods and more. Very good value for the quality.
L L — Google review
Delicious sushi with affordable price, fast and great service. We put our name in waiting list since it was lunch time but only short waiting time. We ordered using the tablet provided in each table, then the food is delivered using the table lane. All items that we ordered are delicious. Free hot ocha on the table (through the water tab seen in the picture, they provide cup as well).
Sesilia E — Google review
My sister/brother-in-law recommended this conveyor belt sushi spot, so my BF and I decided to check it out when we were in the area. We waited for about 10 minutes on a Thursday at around noon, before we were seated. It's not a typical conveyor belt sushi place where everything is pre-made and rotates around. Instead, it's made to order. You select the items you want on your own iPad, and within a few minutes, your items arrive on the conveyor belt in front of you. Kind of like a train. You can order as many times as you like, so it was nice to be able to easily add more items. It was definitely a unique, and fun experience. And with something like this, you wouldn't expect the food to be good, but it was. Of course, we had a few items that were kind of meh, but everything was great for the most part. On top of all that, it was a quick and inexpensive meal. We paid $38 for two people, which included A LOT of food (we were stuffed), and a beer + sake. I wish they had one in NYC! But then again, the quality would go down, and the prices would skyrocket. Tip - they accept credit card!
Melanie T — Google review
The food was just about average.. I feel the Genki Sushi branches in my own country Singapore serve better sushi than here after having tried it here. I didn't enjoy the cramped seating. The waitress put my group which had 3 of us into a space meant for 2 people by squeezing in an extra stool in between 2 seats so it was kind of a tighttttttt spot. And the individual soy sauce packets were smeared with previous diners leftover Soya sauce so... not nice!!!
R L — Google review
This place is fantastic. Fish top notch and thick cut. Service outstanding . Get a cold bottle of sake for around 6 bucks...keep them coming please. Tablet ordering ..and the plates come on a high speed train. Gotta love it..five stars all the way

Dumpling restaurant
Chinese restaurant
Restaurant
In the vibrant neighborhood of Harajuku in Tokyo, amidst the eclectic fashion and bustling streets, lies a hidden gem known as Harajuku Gyozaro. This unassuming eatery is celebrated for serving some of the finest and reasonably priced dumplings in the city. Specializing in gyoza, or pan-fried dumplings, this intimate counter-serve offers a simple yet delightful menu featuring trays of six steamed or fried gyoza filled with either vegetable or chicken and vegetables.
At first glance, the cooking station didn’t inspire much confidence — it looked a bit grimy, with visible grease buildup. But we decided to give it a shot, and honestly, it was a great call. We tried every variety of gyoza on the menu and they were all delicious. The tofu with toppings was a standout. The prices are very fair too, so I’d definitely recommend checking this place out.
Przemek K — Google review
A very simple spot that delivers on both atmosphere and food. It fills up quickly, so get there early—otherwise you’ll be waiting a while to get in and even longer for your gyoza. The pan-fried gyoza are the best, especially the garlic ones. As for sides, the chicken soup is excellent, and the bean sprouts with minced meat are just as good.
Rob K — Google review
The special meat sauce on the tofu was life-changing. The owner came out and plucked me out of line because I was a solo diner in a sea of groups and it was an amazing lunch. I loved watching the chef make the gyoza. What a cool process!
Ashley D — Google review
Great dumplings for a really good price. We didn’t have to wait long which helped a lot. If the line is long, I wouldn’t recommend waiting, there’s lots of other nice places around. But if it’s short, give it a try, you probably won’t find any better price/quality anywhere
Sem — Google review
Nice place away from the Main Street. The food is a blend of Chinese/Japanese noodles. Order thru QR code in English. Shrimp suimai and pork suimai are delicious. The ramen is Chinese based w a nice crunch texture. Very nice clear soap base w generous slices of pork chashu
Ben J — Google review
We ordered two set meals, but only one was served. We waited for more than 15 minutes, and nothing came. When we followed up, the staff said we only ordered one set, even though we were billed for two. Only then did they serve the missing set. Our drinks also came very late and only after another follow-up. The customer service was poor, and the waiting time was unreasonable. The staff seemed more focused on attending to people outside than those already dining in. Would not recommend this place and definitely not coming back.
Jhonrey Q — Google review
Ordered the tofu and original gyoza w garlic & chives (6 pieces). The tofu came quick but the gyoza took approx. 15mins. Despite the long waiting time, the 1 of gyoza came as in the picture - broken skin. The rest was stuck together and had no way of taking apart without breaking skin - as in the video. Luckily, we were there only to get a snack. Service wise, the guy who took our order and served the gyoza was the same - rude. Not sure if its because we ordered lesser than the norm but that should be no excuse given there was no crowd. Waste of time and money.
Teo F — Google review
The gyoza was good and the prices very reasonable. It’s a place more focused on the food than on the atmosphere, which worked fine for a quick bite. However, it wasn’t as clean as we’re used to in Japan, which took away a little from the experience. Overall, still a decent stop for tasty gyoza at a fair price.

Restaurant
Sumibi Yakiniku Nakahara is a popular restaurant known for grilling various cuts of meat, including Wagyu tongue, right at your table over charcoal. The establishment prides itself on using only the highest-quality wagyu beef, and it has become a must-visit spot for many VIPs from overseas.
Great yakiniku restaurant. They are course menu which you don't have to order but they arrange everything for you which is really good. It's varieties of beef from different parts and taste are different. They choose the good one for you so you can try different parts. The whole course took almost two hours and it's full. They have 2 rice dishes and one noodle dish at the end. Every plate are good. Good quality and well cooked. Excellent service. English communication are ok. They are good. Reservation only and not difficult, you can do it from the link in google map. Credit card are accepted. They allowed you to come in when it's the time of reservation and only convenient store available for waiting near by. Be prepared and Enjoy !
Supakij K — Google review
The chef, Henry, was super nice. If you’re going to eat here, definitely get the counter seating so you can chat with the chef and watch them prepare the food. The meat was the best and we tried all the parts of the cow. The meal is a pre-set course that already comes with all the meat, soup, etc. so you don’t have to order anything. So if you’re looking for high quality meat and a great experience, I highly recommend this place.
Collect ( — Google review
This was an excellent place to do a Wagyu course. The ambience was great and so was the food. Every course was amazing and the Wagyu quality is top tier. They had let us choose our size for the ending donburi and we were a bit shocked at how small the large size was. You can pay extra to sit at the counter and pay another add on to get their Katsu Sando. We opted to not do so for the steep pricing and enjoyed our meal just without. Overall a bit pricy compared to other similar restaurants but still worth going!
Lisa H — Google review
My experience at Sumibi Yakiniku Nakahara was unforgettable. The quality of the meat was truly exceptional, each piece cooked to perfection with an incredible depth of flavor. However, the portions were very generous, we found the amount of food to be almost overwhelming. By the end of the meal, I felt uncomfortably full. While the food is delicious, be prepared for a substantial feast!
Jessie W — Google review
Sumibi Yakiniku Nakahara offers a truly memorable dining experience. The food is absolutely delicious, with each dish thoughtfully presented in a well-balanced order that enhances the overall flow of the meal. The course is well-paced—not too long, and just right to enjoy everything without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The staff are attentive, professional, and provide excellent service throughout. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy premium yakiniku in Tokyo.
Patthamon S — Google review
I had an amazing omakase at Sumibi Yakiniku Nakahara! I loved the umami flavors of the beef tounge and offal (aorta and stomach) but the winner for me was the sirloin and upper bole - just melting in your mouth. I payed extra to sit at the counter to be up close with the action and it was worth it - the chef is really friendly and speaks English very good. I got everything explained to me and the staff refilled my glass and changed my napkin a bunch of times without me having to think about it. A bit pricey, (34000 yen without alcohol) but if you’re looking for a genuine star course yakiniku omakase in Tokyo, you should be prepared to pay that little extra. Oh - and the dessert - chefs home made pistachio ice cream was a surprising delight!
Adrian B — Google review
An outstanding dining experience - highly recommend! We had the omakase set and every course was full of flavour and cooked to perfection by one of the super friendly and attentive staff members. Beef was high quality, portions were excellent and courses were paced appropriately and punctuated with salad, soup or vegetables/ pickles to refresh the palate. Lovely atmosphere, background music at an appropriate level. All round perfect evening! Highly recommend.
Robert R — Google review
The staff were very kind and respectful. They had good knowledge of the food. The food was of high quality and standard. Sometimes simplicity is the best way and their food was perfect without the truffle or sea urchin.

Shinjuku Golden Gai is a lively and popular district in Tokyo, known for its narrow and winding alleys filled with cozy taverns. This hidden gem offers a nostalgic atmosphere, reminiscent of Japan's post-war era, where small bars that can only accommodate a few patrons at a time provide an intimate setting for drinks with friends. While the area has gained popularity among international visitors, it still retains its local charm and may have some establishments with 'Locals Only' signs.
It’s a very atmospheric and enjoyable place to have a few drinks and chat with others. There are many bars — some great, some not so much — so it’s worth exploring a bit to find the right spot. Even if you don’t plan to go inside anywhere, it’s still worth visiting and walking around to soak in the vibe. Definitely a nighttime activity.
Tamas K — Google review
Plan to visit to experience the Golden Gai ? If you are a fan of tight spaces and pocket size bars, this is the place for you. Some bars even have a no-cover charge welcome signs to attract customers. There's a bar for everyone - American style, Asian style, Hard Rock Metal Heads, Laid back style, etc. etc. Walkable distance from Shinjuku Metro Station, this area is a part of the Tokyo night life. Pretty safe area this.
Satyen N — Google review
Better than Kabukicho Main Street! Amazing place with little Japanese bars. Plenty of bars with no charges or little charges(¥500-600) with drinks priced starting ¥800. Some of them have Karaoke, music while few are members only. Small alley with good vibes.
Rohit B — Google review
Really cool looking alleys with bars in them. For some reason it didnt feel like the friendliest place though, which felt unusual for my experience of Japan so far. Still some great photo opportunities at night time. Didn't go into a bar because im an introvert and it felt like I would have to speak to strangers as they so small. Would recommend a walk around here though. Was better than Omoide Yokocho.
Michi S — Google review
This area has a ton of bars to choose from, and it’s definitely worth exploring if you’re looking for a fun night out. That said, most of these bars are very small—some can only fit a handful of people—so if it’s just you and one other person, you’ll be fine. But if your group is around four or more, it can get tricky to find space. I would avoid visiting on Friday or Saturday, as it gets absolutely packed. It’s much better to come during the weeknights, or even on a Sunday if you want a bit of a crowd but still room to breathe. The best time to come is around 19:00–20:00 (7–8 p.m.), since that’s when most of the bars are open and starting to get lively. Be aware that many of these places have cover charges—usually between ¥500–¥1,000—which they either add to your bill or require before you order. Some bars are members-only, so if you see that sign, just move along to the next one. Others advertise no cover charge, but their drink prices tend to start a bit higher, around ¥1,000 per drink. For payment, I recommend bringing cash, since while some bars do take cards, quite a few are cash-only or simply prefer it. Overall, this is a great place to meet new people, especially tourists and expats, which is the main crowd here. I’ve been to this area many times over the months and have always had a good experience—never any issues, just good vibes and fun nights. If you’re visiting the city, this is definitely a nightlife spot to check out.
Marissa W — Google review
What looks like dirty, dangerous alleyways are actually quite clean and welcoming. There is a bar for all types of people. Only problem is that when it gets busy you can't get a drink 🤣. Too many people at peak hours. Enjoy
Mark B — Google review
This is such a unique and cool place. Bar hopping is really fun here not only bc of the variety and number of places, but each one is super intimate (seating between 5-10 ppl). And because this is a tourist hot spot, the small alleys and bars are a fun way to connect with people from all over. Knowing some Japanese helps here more than other places because proprietors tend to speak Japanese only. Many bars are cash-only and maybe half require a seating fee ranging from 500-1,000 Yen. There is a Family Mart nearby if you need to pickup some cash. A few offer food as well as drinks, and some specialize in whiskey/spirits versus beer. I've been told that the ones on the first floor are more expensive, which kinda makes sense since they're more convenient to walk into as opposed to ones on the second floor where you have to climb treacherous stairs.
George M — Google review
So cool! I don’t drink, so there’s not much here for me, but the look of the area is unlike any place I’ve ever been. Fun to walk through and take pictures. If you like drinking, then bonus for you.

The Tsukiji Outer Market is a bustling hub of fresh seafood and local delicacies. While the wholesale fish market has moved to a new location, the outer market continues to attract visitors with its wide variety of seafood, sweet treats, vegetables, and pickles. In addition to food, visitors can explore knife shops and kitchen supplies. The market also features restaurants where guests can sample delicious dishes. It's a popular spot for tourists seeking an authentic culinary experience in Tokyo.
An absolute paradise for food lovers! The freshest seafood you can imagine — I tried some incredible tuna that just melted in my mouth. The market is full of colors, energy, and amazing smells, with stalls offering sushi, oysters, grilled scallops, and all kinds of snacks. Don’t miss the delicious ice cream — perfect after a seafood feast! Great place for photos too — every corner is full of life and color. A must-visit when in Tokyo!
Igor O — Google review
Definitely not a cheap venture it is still a must try experience. It's just hard to know what to get and from where without knowing a local. The sashimi choice is phenomenal as is the stalls offering everything from giant grilled scallops, sea urchin, fresh oysters and Okonomi-age which is my new favourite street snack. Best to walk the market (it's not huge) then decide what you like the look of and at what price and then go back to eat. The Whale Sashimi was nothing like I'd tasted before - an acquired taste that was best described as the kangaroo of the sea! And I opted to try the Tuna Sashimi from Sushizanmai as price vs value was the best. However, if you are a sushi aficionado looking for a top-tier experience it is a little less “magical” than the smaller, specialized sushi shops or high-end omakase spots. I loved the Mitarashi Dango and I prefered the hot Tamogayaki on a stick better than the cold pre-prepared options. The Wagyu Beef Tacos from Wagyu Jyu Jyu was also a win and are a tasty, budget Wagyu fix — not as luxe, but worth it for the salsa onion. To wash it all down do not go past a Muscat Grape Smoothie, my newest addiction! And a hidden gem are the Pork And Chicken Dumplings from Suga Shoten and as an added bonus are one of very few that take card.
Regaleatsmelb — Google review
Always a place to go to enjoy the freshest. However price has gone up and some shop has became more of a gimmicks to the heavy tourism. So much shops to choose from and mostly taste so good. Shops closed early so do come early. However it's ok to come after lunch ard 2-3 too if cannot wake up as there will be 50% clearance discount for some shop planning to close early or soon. Still a highly recommended place to visit and enjoy.

The Tsukiji Outdoor Market is an amazing experience! So much incredible fresh seafood, delicious street food, and a lively atmosphere. The vendors are friendly, and there’s a great mix of traditional and modern Japanese snacks and gifts. Perfect spot to explore, eat, and soak up the local culture! 🐟🍣

# 🇯🇵 Tsukiji: Early Morning Charm Meets Tourist Traps Tsukiji is rather worth an early morning visit—there’s something quite authentic about the old Japanese atmosphere that lingers in the narrow lanes. However, do tread carefully. Establishments charging 5,000 yen for a single beef skewer? That’s what one might call the textbook definition of an “intelligence tax” aimed squarely at tourists 😅 A reliable rule of thumb: Stick to spots where you see Japanese locals queuing up. If the clientele is entirely tourists, well… your wallet will thank you for walking past. 💡 Quick Tip Early mornings offer the best atmosphere, and following the locals never steers you wrong.

• The Tsukiji Outer Market (築地場外市場, Tsukiji Jōgai Shijō) is the area that remains after the wholesale inner market moved to Toyosu. • It’s a lively, working market district where both professionals (chefs, restaurateurs) and tourists shop. • The streets are narrow and filled with a mix of seafood stalls, restaurants, dried‑food shops, and kitchenware / knife shops. • There’s a real “market” feel: corrugated roofs, old signage, and a history that goes back many decades. What to Eat • Seafood Bowls (Kaisendon / Donburi): One of the biggest draws — many shops serve fresh kaisendon (rice bowls with raw seafood). Live Japan notes bowls with uni, tuna, ikura, etc., usually between ¥1,000–¥2,000 for good quality. • Street Food: There are lots of snack‑type stalls: grilled scallops, whole prawns, seafood skewers. • Non-Seafood Options: You can also find tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), tempura, ramen, and traditional sweets. • Kitchenware & Knives: Tsukiji Outer Market is famous for its professional-grade knives and cooking utensils — great spot for culinary gear shopping. • Authentic Market Feel: Even though it’s very tourist-visited, it retains real working-market energy. • Wide Variety: You’re not just limited to seafood — lots of food variety + shopping. • Fresh Seafood: Because many shops still deal in real wholesale or “trade‑level” seafood, the quality can be very high. • Early Morning Charm: The best time to visit is early morning — many shops open very early, and you’ll avoid some of the crowds. • Expert Advice Available: Some vendors are very knowledgeable; if you’re buying ingredients or knives, you can ask for tips. • Great for Photography: The old-style market architecture, narrow alleys, and food stalls make for very “Tokyo market” photo • Crowds: It gets very busy, especially mid‑morning (around 9–11 am) when tourist foot traffic peaks. • Limited Afternoon Hours: Many stalls close around early afternoon (some shops close by ~14:00). • Not All Shops Open Every Day: Some shops close on Sundays and some Wednesdays. • Touristy Prices: Some visitors feel that food, especially sushi or donburi, can be more expensive than what locals pay. > “Food at the Tsukiji outer market is not a good deal … it’s not a place to go for a bargain.” • Photo Etiquette & Space: The market is crowded and narrow — be careful when taking photos, don’t block walkways, and ask before photographing shops. • Luggage & Bags: Large bags and strollers can be cumbersome; the official site advises storing large items to keep lanes clear. • Go Early: Aim for early morning (around 7:00–8:30) to catch the market vibe, good food, and fewer crowds. • Bring Cash: While many shops accept cards, smaller stalls may be cash-only. • Sample Before Buying: Many food stalls let you try small items; and for kitchenware, vendor staff often give advice or show how to use tools. • Plan What to Eat: Make a “food crawl” — pick a few must-try stalls (seafood bowl, grilled scallop, tamago, etc.) rather than trying to eat everything. • Check Shop Open Days: Because of varied closing days (especially Wednesdays and Sundays), check the market’s website or shop list before going. On the flip side: some say “food is good, but make sure to go early – otherwise you’ll hit crowds and limited selection.” • According to Good Luck Trip, there are about 400+ shops, making it an excellent place to both browse and eat. • Definitely Worth It If You: • Love seafood and want to try quality fresh Japanese seafood bowls. • Enjoy food markets, street food, and culinary culture. • Are an early riser and don’t mind navigating narrow alleys. • Want to combine shopping for food + kitchen tools + souvenirs. • Maybe Skip / De-prioritize If You: • Only have a short trip to Tokyo and don’t care much about food markets. • Don’t like crowded tourist spots. • Prefer “budget-only” food — it’s not always super cheap for what you’re tasting. Beware of overpriced shops, as 90% are foreign tourists.

The older original fish market has been relocated and now its two newer buildings. The newer buildings certainly dont have the same vibes as the older fish market. There are however alot of small shops along the streets nearby and it is still very worthwhile to come and take a look. You can see many different things from fresh seafood to matcha shops to sushi shops to knife shops and many many more. Definitely should come and visit.
SL W — Google review
Definitely a tourist trap, but better than Nishiki market in Kyoto. Street food is pretty good. Expect a crowd even on weekdays. I'd come back for some specific food stalls (tamagoyaki on a stick, strawberry tanghulu, wagyu noodles, fresh fruit, grilled shellfish)

Kaiseki restaurant
Authentic Japanese restaurant
Ise Sueyoshi is a private Japanese restaurant located in central Tokyo, offering traditional kaiseki-style Japanese cuisine. The chef, Yuki Tanaka, trained at the renowned Kikunoi in Kyoto and has traveled to over 15 countries to perfect his craft. The restaurant prides itself on using fresh ingredients directly sourced from Ise, with the chef personally connecting with farmers and fishermen for quality assurance.
Heads up: you will be rejected if you do not reserve much in advance. It is a kaiseki; haute cuisine japanese style restaurant where the chef makes dishes for you - 9 course if I remember correctly. We were an omnivore and a ovo-vegetarian at the restaurant and they were able to accommodate us both easily. I like the craftsmanship from the chefs, making every dish the same to every guest at the allocated time slot. We opted in for the sake pairing to get the best possible experience and all of this came with a high price. Don't come if you are not ready to splurge, and don't come if you want AYCE experience. This is haute fine dining as you can see from my pictures. That being said, food and sake were mindblowingly good. Portions were fine for me and I am not the skinniest person on earth. I came out with a full belly, and ready to nap.
Miguel T — Google review
I booked my visit two months in advance, filled with anticipation. To put it simply, it was one of the best dining experiences of my life. The October 2025 kaiseki course I had was like a beautifully written travelogue on a plate. Starting with the "Makomo" appetizer with crab sauce, moving through the "Hassun" with Hokkaido sea urchin and persimmon in a delicate soy sauce, and culminating in the incredibly juicy grilled Iga Wagyu beef, every dish was a perfect ode to autumn. What truly astonished me was the plant-based (vegan) course we ordered alongside the regular one. It was a revelation to see how diverse, deep, and satisfying vegan cuisine could be. Sharing and comparing the two courses was a delightful experience in itself. The sake pairing was the masterstroke that completed the picture. Each sake was meticulously selected to complement the specific flavors of the dish, creating a symphony in my mouth. It wasn't just about having a drink with the food; the sake felt like an integral part of each course, enhancing every single bite. Beyond the exquisite food, the booklet on the table offered a heartfelt glimpse into the chef's profound respect for his hometown's ingredients and his father's legacy. This emotional narrative transformed a simple dinner into a deeply memorable experience. Any lingering culinary nostalgia I had from my time in Sapporo vanished in an instant. For any food lover visiting Tokyo, Ise Sueyoshi isn't just a recommendation; it's an essential destination.
KEVIN — Google review
This was our first destination after we landed, and it was incredible. The Chef, Yuuki Tanaka and his talented team, created such a beautiful menu, which was made from ingredients from his home prefecture. All farm to table as illustrated in a beautiful book. Every dish was a delight, so carefully crafted it's taste matched the visual and each had a sake pairing (if you choose to, I would highly recommend - I had no idea there were so many nuances in sake!). You can taste the love and care poured into this kaiseki experience. We will return on our next trip to Tokyo.
Maria W — Google review
Had an amazing experience at Ise Sueyoshi during my trip to Tokyo last week! Yuuki personally introduced the story behind each ingredient and dish, and talked about how they reflect his childhood home in Mie Prefecture. The food was beautifully cooked and plated, and everything was executed with such attention to detail. I wouldn’t be surprised if his restaurant gets a Michelin star at some point!
May W — Google review
Located on the third floor in a beautiful room with a counter only sitting 5-6 people, the experience was amazing. Chef Yuuki and his team did a beyond amazing job with each dish - from presentation to taste. The dishes were unique and unlike something we’ve ever had before. My sisters and I agree this was one of, if not the best meal of our lives. The sake pairing was also great (it’s a lot of sake!). Thank you Chef Yuuki and his team!
Madoka — Google review
We had an outstanding experience at Ise Sueyoshi! Yuuki is an excellent chef and he served us beautifully food, explaining clearly what we were eating and where it had come from. He cares very much about where his ingredients come from (all from Ise prefecture) and really honours them in his seasonal menu. It was the most amazing food we had in Japan and I couldn't recommend the experience enough!
Cécile — Google review
This was an amazing experience all around. The connection to the local farmers from the area of Chef Yuuki's origin was amazing. Each course had a meaningful story and he and his staff treated the food with subtlety and care. My wife had the vegan option and it was equally as creative and delicious. Highly recommend for anyone that wants an intimate gourmet experience -

Hi quality Japanese Kaiseki experience. We were a bit skeptical with the initial 2 starters but when first grilled plates are served we realised that the bar is getting higher with every plate. We tried chef table and definitelt recommend Chef Yuuki San and his teams food art to kaiseki explorers. Thank you Ise Sueyoshi team.

❇️ Tsuki-shima Island. 🟧Very interesting. ************************************** ● We saw school kids about 7 to 8 years old coming home to Tsukishima island alone - unaccompanied by parents. They are so highly independent. ✅️Amazing. ●Tsuki-shima island. This is an island-residential neighbourhood located near Tsukiji market. ➡️ It is prime estate, and home to many young couples and young families. ● It has a homely neighbourhood feel like my Toa Payoh Central ( the town I live in Singapore). ❇️ It is very relaxing here, and people are friendly. ● We saw many school children coming home to this neighbourhood.

Many of the shops weren’t open during the day. It feels like a newly developed commercial area.

Now, if you are stating in Ginza and have a craving for Monja - head here on the bus! Charming street filled with about 80 places to eat - the smells will lead you to the one that is right for you! Yes, you have to make your own dinner - but that's the fun of it, right? Careful - some shops have smoking permitted.

We made a stop here to try monjayaki for the first time before heading to kidzania. Chose to dine at Daruma Monjayaki shop just opposite the Monja street information center. You can always get a guide map from the information center as they have a list of all the shops along the street or make a reservation online before hand. We were short on time so we chose whichever was closest but it was nothing short on experience. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful with ordering. They’ll cook for you on the spot so you can just sit back and relax. Was surprised at the side of it and wondered how can my daughter and me finish it but we managed to finished every bit of it! Will be back again on our next trip to explore more!
Jasmine — Google review
It’s a unique and cool sight to see so many restaurants in close proximity, all competing with the exact same food. No guarantee you can get into any single one, but walk around and you’re sure to find a shop without too much of a wait where you can get some authentic monjayaki.
Jacob N — Google review
Too quiet as a tourist street. 20% of the shops are still closed (probably due to COVID). Very few people walking down and /or eating there. However just before I left, look whom I bumped into! I met the symbol of this island! What a luck!

Okonomiyaki restaurant
Izakaya restaurant
Japanese restaurant
Sakura-tei is a casual eatery located in the artsy Ura-Harajuku neighborhood of Tokyo, offering a unique dining experience centered around okonomiyaki, a savory Japanese pancake. The restaurant provides an English menu and has a relaxed atmosphere with creative wall designs. Okonomiyaki itself is made from a batter, egg, and cabbage base with various mix-ins such as pork belly, shrimp, mushrooms, or tempura pieces.
I liked it. The food was great! Our hostess/waitress was very nice. It’s very spacious inside & out. Define come by here if you want a relaxed little cooking session. This is my 1st time in Japan but if I ever come back I’d love to come back here.
Clarissa C — Google review
Fun cook-it-yourself okonomiyaki experience. Super casual setting, lots of street style art on the walls, tables and seating have maybe a dive bar vibe. Instructions are given on a card and then you’re left to your own devices. It’s fine though, this is casual street food so you can’t really go wrong. It’ll psychologically taste better since you cooked it :p We’ve been here twice over the span of a decade. It’s a super consistent experience. Portions are large. Don’t really recommend the all you can eat … but to each his own! If you’re looking for a fun interactive casual experience this is worth a visit. Note that since you’re cooking, you’ll leave with a strong food smell on your clothes. They do provide a reasonably effective deodorizer spray, but there are limits. Recommend as a cute family or group activity.
Nelson L — Google review
The food was average, the service was terrible. They simply do not care. I've had significantly better service and much friendlier staff in Japan at izakaya and other restaurants at prices that are 1/3 or 1/2 of what they are here. The Wi-Fi did not work and they could care less, they had trouble bringing hot water. And it's a place where you are encouraged to make your own food, so if you like that sort of thing, maybe you can give it a shot, but honestly, the prices are too high for what they are offering and from what I can tell from other reviews, they have a separate menu for foreigners, which is much higher prices than locals. Avoid this place.
Wandering B — Google review
YUM WOW. So grateful there was an option for gluten free okonomiyaki!! It lived up to the hype. The vibe is also SO fun. And it’s a cook-it-yourself kind of place with clear instructions. It’s a bit of a splurge, but worth it.

Danele S — Google review
Wow so many vegan and vegetarian options! As a vegetarian living in Japan, I honestly thought I’d never be able to enjoy okonomiyaki — but Sakura-tei made it possible! You get to cook your own savory pancake on the hot plate, and they even have vegan and vegetarian versions of Monja-yaki and Okonomiyaki. They also provide a separate vegetarian sauce, which is amazing attention to detail. There are English instructions for how to make everything, and the staff speak a bit of English too. The price is very reasonable (under ¥1500), and the atmosphere is great — cool music and chill Harajuku vibes. Highly recommended for vegans and vegetarians living in Japan, or anyone visiting who wants to experience a truly inclusive okonomiyaki restaurant. Absolutely loved it!

Sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu restaurant
Mo-Mo-Paradise Shibuya Center Street store, also known as Mo-Para, is a trendy restaurant in Tokyo that specializes in all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu and sukiyaki. The restaurant offers various courses starting from 2,500 yen, allowing guests to enjoy unlimited pork and vegetables for 100 minutes with a choice of three types of soup. The atmosphere is described as cozy and the service as attentive and friendly.
We had an excellent lunch at Momo Paradise Shibuya Center. The food was absolutely delicious — the quality of the Wagyu meat was outstanding, and everything was so fresh. The shabu-shabu was perfectly prepared and very satisfying. A special thank you to our lovely waitress Haruka, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and friendly throughout our meal. She took great care of us and made sure we enjoyed every moment. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Shibuya — an amazing place for a delicious and authentic Japanese meal!

Our server Masumi made our lunch experience truly special — she was welcoming, friendly, and attentive throughout, helping us enjoy every part of the meal. We came for the all-you-can-eat lunch, and it was fantastic! Even without a reservation, arriving early made it easy to get a table. The restaurant is spotless, with a great selection of fresh meat, vegetables, beverages, and desserts. The matcha ice cream was incredible, and the Sukiyaki - Japanese beef set was my favorite — high-quality meat at a very reasonable price. Overall, a great dining experience. Highly recommend this place and will definitely come back again.

We visited for the first time and enjoyed shabu shabu and sukiyaki soup with A5 wagyu. The quality of the meat was outstanding—each piece melted wonderfully and tasted superb. This is an experience I would recommend to everyone. Hitomi served us today and was exceptionally wonderful. She was very polite and made every effort to communicate with us. Her patience stood out, as she kindly guided us through the process of cooking the meat. Thank you so much, Miss Hitomi, for making our visit truly enjoyable. We greatly appreciated our time here! 😊

I had a wonderful first time experience here. I chose the all you can eat Wagyu beef & pork experience. The veggies are so tasty & fresh. The broths were bursting with flavor. Honestly I couldn’t get enough and was bursting at the seams by the time I was done. Additionally, I don’t know what was better, the food or the service! Masumi & the gentleman who I believe is either the manager or the host were impeccable! They were so hospitable, polite, & attentive. Masumi brought over her recommended spicy sauce which I poured on everything. They really made me feel special. So glad I decided to come here just a few hours before my flight back home. It was worth every dollar and I highly advise you to come here while you’re in Shibuya.

English-speaking staff, excellent food selection. The Japanese beef once again lived up to its reputation as the best meat. A wide variety of vegetables and mushrooms was available at no extra cost. The service was outstanding — before I could even think of asking for something, a staff member was already there. We left full and happy. Including drinks, we paid only €80. Highly recommended. Viktoriia and Yuuto were patient and great teachers. Thank you!

Had the Sukiyaki soup paired with the Wagyu meat set. It was so great that we got a bit greedy with more meat when the last order came along... We did our best! Enjoyed it throughly and deliciously until closing time! Also giving our waitress Trang an extra 10/10 stars! Tack så mycket!

We absolutely loved our meal here. We got the Japanese course that included the buffet and we added the drink package. The buffet contained a large assortment of vegetables, rice, noodles, and various sauces. Everything looked and tasted fresh. It was so nice to add some healthy veges to our not so healthy vacation meals. We enjoyed the Japanese cuts of steak and pork and we had fun trying to cook them ourselves. Our sweet waitress Risa did offer her assistance quite often when we couldn’t figure things out. She and Shuhei were very attentive and made our experience even better. We would highly recommend this place for dinner!

Great meal with outstanding staff that made a new experience enjoyable. Risa and Shuhei spoke great English which made things easier for us (definitely ask them to make some dipping sauces for you). Not the cheapest meal you will have in shibuya but definitely worth it for the chance to get as many veggies as you want.

The restaurant's name pays homage to Miyamoto Musashi, a legendary swordsman known for his mastery of dual-wielding swords, reflecting the unique 'double soup' technique used in their signature ramen.
Delicious tsukemen with great portions, typical for the dish. Price was a bit higher but fits the location I think. There was a slight wait and a longer line started to form for a weekday dinner.

On our third day in Tokyo, we decided to try a popular ramen spot for dinner. Despite the 35-minute queue and an additional 10-minute wait after placing our order at the machine, the experience was well worth it. I instantly fell in love with the rich, thick broth and the melt-in-your-mouth pork belly, which was incredibly satisfying. The portions were generous, making it even more enjoyable. This place has left such an impression that I’ll definitely be returning on my next visit to Tokyo!

Pretty good ramen with thick, gravy like broth and thick springy noodles. Not my favorite bowl of ramen but decent for a cold night. Didn't have to wait too long at around 7pm on Saturday. Service was quite OK too. Order at the kiosk and wait for the food.

Order at machine before getting started. 10min wait at 7pm on Saturday. Huge portions of thicker type springy ramen, very tender and thick pork, incredible lava egg. Prefer the soup ramen to the dry dipping tsukemen as the dipping sauce isn't as warm and it's chilly weather now in mid Dec. Wonderful atmosphere and service, customers get to wait indoors out of the cold. Not my favourite ramen, but decent. JPY5500 for 4 huge bowls. Water and serviettes provided.

Every time I come here, I’m never disappointed. The price and value are unbeatable—there’s absolutely nothing to hesitate about, it’s always worth it. No matter how many times I visit, the food is consistently delicious, and the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere has never dropped. The only thing I miss is the powdered chili (I’m not even sure what it’s called), which added a special flavor I really loved. I wonder if there’s any chance they’ll bring it back someday.

The reason I would leave a review here is simply because of the best staff I have ever met in my whole life, Mr. Islam. He was responsible for offering the veggies with a cart circulating around the restaurant from time to time. The way he interacted with each customer was just exceptional and heartfelt. The warm smile and his proactive help did elevate my dining experience. Extremely delicious shabu shabu, they have 3 tiers you can choose from: pork, pork and beef, and A5 Wagyu. The meat was very tender and tasted amazing; A5 wagyu just melted in your mouth and was delicious! Costed around 11,000 Yen for the A5 all you can eat course and it did not disappoint. Even the ice cream was quite good. Service here was excellent, the staff were so friendly and helpful and most spoke English as well. Would come back again. Only thing is it’s quite expensive.

Mattis — Google review
I came here as a group of 5 for some Wagyu before heading back home, and the group had to be split up due to the limited seating. We all pretty much ordered the same plate of "Wagyu" for 7000-9000¥. I also ordered mashed potatoes with mine, which I was looking forward to since you dont find that often in Japan. I was very dissapointed with my meal. The steak came out on a cast iron plate still sizzling, but the cuts were thick and came out rare. I left mine to cook a little more on the plate and as it cooked to a medium, it was tough and did not taste like Wagyu at all. Any steak can pass as tender wagyu if its raw, but only wagyu can be tender and melt in your mouth when its FULLY cooked. Thats why it's usually served thin. The small "dallop" of mashes potatoes they serve is pathetic. The restaurant is so small and cramped that the wait staff has to move behind you serve you and it gets kind of annoying. Once we left the restaurant and gathered back together as a group, we all agreed that after having several wagyu dishes on our trip, what this place serced us was definitely not real wagyu. My friend was charged much less than the wagyu price, while my boyfriend and I were charged a total of 17000¥. Overall a dissapointing experience for our last night in Japan.

Amazingly nice staff! Amazingly tender and juicy steak! Amazingly flavorful sauce! The place was a bit cramped for a family to dine in, but they were so hospitable compared to most of the places we’ve dined at before. Would recommend this place if you’re looking for a good steak while card and figurine hunting in Akihabara

Absolutely in love with this place. Randomly walked in here looking for Yakiniku place in the area. It’s a standing restaurant so there is no chair. The restaurant itself is very small so I don’t recommend it for big group or family with small children. However if you want really good quality A5(and 4) beef in very reasonable price for quick lunch/dinner, highly highly recommended. The service is super nice too. I will definitely go back again.

when you're expecting wagyu on your table don't expect it to be cheap. it's good yet it hurts the pocket haha. what i really liked about this place is that they display the meat in front of you so you get to grill the meat the way you want. the staff was friendly. the only thing i didn't like about this place is that they don't have a bathroom.

Restaurant
CoCo Ichibanya Tokyo Metro Shinjuku Gyoenmae station shop is a popular spot known for its Japanese curry. It has gained recognition for offering Halal cuisine, making it accessible to Muslim customers. The Akihabara and Shinjuku locations are particularly favored, with the latter being voted as the top choice by Halal Gourmet Japan readers. Visitors can expect a satisfying dining experience with options like chicken and pork curry served with vegetables.
Very easy to order via tablets that have english menus. Several types of curry bases and toppings, and each meal is modifiable in quantities and extra toppings. Everything had a good taste to it and seemed fresh. Reliable option with large portions with good prices if you’re on the go

Really good chicken katsu curry. A word of caution on the spice level. It goes up to 15 and I settled in the middle at 7 and it was almost unbearably spicy. And I’m not one to shy away from spice. Get it 5 or lower
Mohammad M — Google review
In my humble opinion, this is the best CoCo Ichibanya restaurant in the country! I've been here so many times, I've lost count. Eating here means you're always guaranteed something tasty at a reasonable price. Conveniently located and very English-friendly/ foreigner-friendly! Moreover, I've never had to wait to be seated, despite it being located next to one of the busiest metro stations on the planet! Would recommend the chicken katsu. The chicken is so juicy and the katsu coating is always so crisp and crunchy. Perfect combination. Real guilty pleasure stuff. The staff here are always so amazingly welcoming, no matter the time of day, and always put their all into cooking up a delicious dish.

Easy to order even for tourists, just take a seat and use the tablet to order. If you are a tourist I recommend getting slightly smaller portions as not only myself but the other two pairs of tourists next to us were not able to finish their whole meal it's quite filling! (Sorry, traveller's stomache!). Very delicious Japanese curry and I know the locals like it too as a Japanese girl half my size finished her whole meal like it was nothing! Recommend it!

So good! 🍛 The curry is rich, the katsu perfectly crispy, and the omelette soft and creamy. Generous portion and totally worth it.

The only spot on my Japan trip I visited twice! I know it's a chain but I love Japanese curry and this spot cannot be topped for the carried options and value.

Very small restaurant specialising in katsu curry rice. Kids had a craving for it, so we tried this restaurant. It has many choices we can choose from. The masaman curry option also came with many spice levels, which was perfect for us. Only the price is slightly on the high side, which is why I have given 1 star less.

We decided to come here after exploring the whole day and we were super hungry. One of the best food or chicken katsu we had and it’s super affordable. Come in order food using tablet and food comes out very fast.

Soba noodle shop
Kanda Matsuya is a historic soba restaurant in Tokyo that has been serving hand-made soba for over 130 years. The wooden interior exudes old Tokyo charm, and the menu offers over 30 dishes, with the 'Tempura Soba' being a top recommendation. This dish features two large tempura-fried tiger prawns atop fragrant soba noodles, accompanied by a delicious dipping sauce packed with umami flavors.
Date of visit: June 2024 Cash only! Great spot for delicious soba. The servers are nice Japanese ladies. I spoke to them in English. We had a party of eight. We did wait a bit, and they separated us into two tables. I got the duck soba. It was so delicious. I actually don't care for soba in California, USA (home), but the noodles were so satisfying. Great company probably helped as well. I was meeting up with people from different parts of the world in a soba shop in Japan! I would definitely come back with cash ready.

Long line at the entrance. Do not be discouraged, it moves fast and the service is quick. Exceptional soba. I have no other words. The service was quick and very helpful, us tourists not knowing exactly what we got ourselves into. The price was so fair!

This was legendary experienced broadcaster Peter Barakan's (ピーター・バラカン) first meal in Japan, as revealed in season 2 episode 17 "Soba" of Begin Japanology. So I had to follow in the titan's footsteps and make this my own first meal, while watching his truly. I had the "delicious snacks" of yakitori, miso, and sake. "The best part of the day." This is absolutely necessary pilgrimage 聖地巡礼 for all true Barakan fans. I'll see you next time.

The Soba were good, but nothing spectacular. The tempura was very very good and delicious. What shocked me the most was the price at the end. For the Soba with the tempura on the picture you had to pay 2800¥. I don't know if there is some reason for the higher price, from what I've seen there were primarily elderly woman working, maybe that's one/the reason? I would rate it a 3.8 (4.3 for Taste, but price for the amount and quality we've got would only be a 3.4) (visited on 08.10.2025)

Very nice plain cold fresh Soba with side order of juicy yakitori chicken but not so for the Soba Dumpling. I’ve learned on this Tokyo Trip to eat plain Soba or Udon (may be add egg) with side order to appreciate the taste how good is the Soba as well as the Udon.

A very old traditional soba shop - favoured by local people for more than 100 years. The atmosphere is very lively, makes one reminiscent of the older days. The soba and the other dishes are delicious. The staff were accommodating for requests (special cups for the soba water when ordering Yamakake soba).

Japanese confectionery shop
Usagiya, located in Ueno, is a renowned confectionery store known for its specialty, Dorayaki. This traditional Japanese sweet features two fluffy sponge cake patties filled with sweet red adzuki bean paste. As a family-owned business spanning four generations, Usagiya has been perfecting the art of making Dorayaki since 1913. Visitors can savor the delectable Dorayaki fresh from the bakery at the store for an authentic taste experience.
I came across this shop from the confectionery map given by one of the stores here. Their dorayaki is THE BEST! The batter is chewy, smooth, with a slight fragrance of egg. The red bean filling’s sweetness is just perfect and very flavourful! Wanted to buy back a few pieces but the staff mentioned we only can keep for 2 days…so we only get one piece to eat there. And he gave us the piece that’s still very warm. It is really amazing dorayaki!!!
Thantakorn L — Google review
Came on a Sunday morning and there weren’t many people and didn’t need to wait in line. An elderly lady served us. She was all smiles and very welcoming. We got the set containing 3 of each including どらやき, 喜作最中 and うさぎまんじゅう. All of them are very delicious, and very sweet. The うさぎまんじゅう is probably the least liked out of the three. The white part or the bread is a bit bland. It’s probably because I had them in order and ate the うさぎまんじゅう last. I wanted to get the お団子 but it wasn’t available. Overall, while it was quite delicious, it wasn’t strikingly overwhelming. Probably there are too many other similar snacks in Japan and they all taste quite similar, and all very delicious.
Paul C — Google review
This dorayaki may look simple in its plastic wrap, but one bite reveals the warmth of true craftsmanship. The pancake is soft and springy, lightly browned on the surface with a gentle honey aroma. It’s not overly sweet or greasy — instead, it strikes a beautiful balance between fluffiness and moisture. The ratio of batter to filling is just right, allowing both textures to shine together in each bite. The red bean paste inside is the real highlight. The beans remain whole yet tender, releasing a natural earthy sweetness. The flavor is mild and elegant, never cloying, with a hint of caramel depth that lingers. It tastes homemade, honest, and full of care — like a nostalgic treat from a quiet Japanese confectionery. Overall, this dorayaki embodies simplicity done perfectly. It doesn’t rely on flash or excess; it wins you over with sincerity and flavor. A perfect companion to an afternoon walk or a cup of warm green tea — the kind of sweet that makes time slow down.
I C — Google review
The name in Japanese <i>Usagiya</i> is literally meant "Rabbit House / Place" and I think that's why the sweet items here have the rabbit shape or logo printed on them. I saw this place recommended by Shizuka Anderson on YouTube and decided to try myself when visiting Ueno Park. I tried the 3 recommended items i.e. the <i>dorayaki</i>, the rabbit bun and the waffle (cost ¥ 570). They're all good sweets using azuki beans or <i>anko</i> in Japanese, but my favorite is the <i>dorayaki</i>. They're good and have fluffy, perfect texture. The shop staff would accommodate tourist customers who can't speak Japanese with limited communication. Basically, just point to the pictures or items and tell them how many you want using your fingers. I remember we paid in cash, so maybe they only accept cash payment method.
Rudy G — Google review
A classic Tokyo sweet shop. They sell many kinds of sweets but their speciality is dorayaki so I had to try that. The dorayaki are the freshest ever, they taste like someone literally made it 1 minute ago. Great to try. They are not English friendly at all so be prepared to use Google translate!
Steven Y — Google review
Fresh, sweet, lovely dorayaki. The biggest difference between these and a prepackaged version is the pancakes - anko keeps pretty well, but nothing compares to the fluffy bounce of this freshly baked exterior. We went in poor weather near close and there was no line.
Nathan M — Google review
There are many kinds of dorayaki but this is the one I would feed someone who's never had it. Everything about it is just right - from soft, pillowy shell to the subtly textured and just sweet enough anko bean paste filling. The fact that the woman at the counter warmed it up for me made it even more heavenly. Ignore the size of the line, it moves quickly. Enjoy the cheerful, kind staff and being surrounded by happy customers. Eat it as soon as you can or the day of. Even better, get at least one of each -- they'll all taste of love.
Dlk — Google review
Quite a good dorayaki! The cake is soft and able to taste the bean in the filling. Prefer kamejuu’s cake but usagiya filling!

Niku no Ohyama is a popular no-frills steakhouse in Ueno, known for grilling various cuts of meat, serving croquettes, and offering ground Wagyu burgers. The menu is filled with a variety of meaty options to try. This small eatery and snack shop is famous for its minced-meat cakes, called menchi katsu, which are deep-fried to a crispy golden brown and can be enjoyed with a beer.
Came here in the secret food tour and had the popular croquette. Extemely crispy and flavorful. I like it more than the curry one. Unique and a must try if you're in the area!

We stopped in for one drink, it was delicious and great value for the price. I accidentally left a bag behind and the staff had very kindly put it away for me when I returned a few minutes later. I'm very grateful for both the value and the service provided here and am excited to come back and try food another day.

I ate a croquette here. I find menchi katsu to be too meaty so just opted to eat a regular potato croquette. This is one of the BEST croquette I’ve eaten in Japan. Even better than the Hokkaido potato one I tried in Azabudai Hills market. It was soft and it wasn’t dry or overly oily. I would eat this any time.

It was a nice restaurant! We went at around 1600 and it wasn't too busy to sit inside and have our meal. After 1700 though, it got quite busy, so it's best to get there early. No English menu, and my Japanese isn't perfect, but I went with Japanese friends and had no issues. Croquettes were fresh and delicious, and so was everything else! Definitely worth the visit.

Curry Beef Croquettes (99Y) filled with spices, curry and potato. Beef Croquet (88Y) can taste more of the beef without the curry. Both are tasty. Noto Beef Dice (1990Y) has a nice texture to it, pretty good. Chicken Namban (1200Y) is nice too. Service is slow tonight. The Ameya alley is pretty touristy, this place seems local with good value.

A perfect place to grab a hot and steamy snack on a winter day! They offer various fried items that are ultra affordable. I had the beef and potato croquette, or the korroke and it was amazing. The beef and potato mixture was seasoned perfectly, not too overpowering. The outside crust was a panko crust and was so crispy and had a great crunch when you bit into it. It was freshly fried and was piping hot! They have a bar table near the counter so you can stand and eat, or you can get your snacks to go. A must visit!

Good selection of deep fried stuff and beef menus. The Menchi was nice. Tried it with the sauce, chilli and mustard. Also the hamburger and cured beef salad were delicious. One star deducted from that they allow smoking in the restaurant which is normal in Japan.

Gyoza no Fukuho is a popular gyoza franchise with multiple locations in Tokyo, including one near Shinjuku Gyoenmae Station. The restaurant offers affordable and delicious gyoza prepared using three different cooking methods: pan-fried, boiled, and deep-fried. Customers can enjoy these tasty dumplings with rice or as a snack with beer. The lunch special includes two orders of gyoza, rice, and seaweed soup at a reasonable price.
Warm place to dine in, the service was great and the gyoza was very nice at the end 4 person ate 72 gyoza with few other dishes and drinks. The price is affordable as well. The place was busy and need a bit of waiting before can go in but is worth the wait.

Total gyoza heaven, a skip and a hop away from the shinjuku gate of the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. A total treat! Gyozas are out of this world good and the rice bowls too! Kiddos loved the chicken rice bowl. Skip the side leek sauce but make sure to leave room for the black sesame ice cream: sooooooooo good!
Alejandro L — Google review
It's one of the best gyoza restaurants in Tokyo in terms of quality and price. Upon arrival, you have to sign up for a list and wait in line; it took us at most 20 minutes to get in. The staff and the quality of the gyozas were amazing and so tasty. We ordered three plates of gyozas with and without garlic, and rice with chicken and soft-boiled egg, and it cost 1,529 yen. I highly recommend it and give it 5 stars without a doubt.

This was a great little spot for dinner. The chef and waiter were super kind to us as we didn’t speak Japanese. We love Gyoza and were not disappointed. We highly recommend coming here for some yummy food and dumplings!
Kyle M — Google review
Reviews mentioning that the gyoza here are the best-tasting, inflated my expectations. The gyoza here are very good for the price, and the crispy texture of the pan-fried is very well executed. At this price point, they just can't add a lot of good quality meat, which is essential for a great tasting gyoza. Although, I liked the pan-fried better, the boiled are also very good. The relatively thin gyoza skin, held up well, adding a more delicate and elegant taste. Don't get me wrong, I can highly recommend this place for the cost performance and taste of the gyoza. Just, there are other better tasting gyoza, but of course at a higher price.
Sakai M — Google review
Great gyoza spot! The dumplings were super tasty – juicy inside and full of flavor. You can choose between deep-fried, pan-fried, or steamed, and all of them were really good. The portions were generous, the veggie options also very nice, and the sides complemented the gyoza perfectly. Casual atmosphere, fair prices, and quick, friendly service – definitely worth a visit if you’re into dumplings!

Izakaya restaurant
Daitoryo is a bustling izakaya located in the heart of Ameya-Yokocho, a retro shopping district between Ueno Station and Okachimachi Station in Tokyo. The tavern offers an authentic experience of the area's lively atmosphere, with tightly packed seats at the counter and simple tables facing the street. Locals and tourists alike gather here to enjoy grilled bites, offal, beer, and shochu.
Seems to be a well-known intestine place amonst locals. Heard from my native friend that the intestine dish is the signiture in the Ueno area. I prefer fried for intestines rather than boiled, so the cookint method wasn't really my cupp tea. I quite liked the veggie dishes tho. Locals seem to like it. The place is so tiny you have to squeeze your way to your seat and stay crumpled on it right there. But due to the tightness you get to talk to locals or those seating next to you. They expect fast turnaround of tables so if you plan to chill with a slow conversation over a glass of something, not the best place. My friend and I got pretty much kicked out cause we weren't ordering enough lol All in all, a fun experience. Good luck, have fun! 👍

We loved everything we tried here!, and will definitely be back in our next trip. We chanced upon this place while walking along the street and the vibe caught our attention. It was just the two of us so it was a short wait and we were seated as soon as a couple finished their meal. We were at the older shop. Despite us not being able to speak Japanese, the folks serving were extremely friendly. We tried almost all of their skewers, the offal is a must, we saw someone next to us having sliced cheese with pepper and seaweed as a snack so we ordered that too, all served with plenty of highballs! After some three hours or so of sampling pretty much everything, we also had interesting conversations with locals who sat next to us, starting with what we liked from the izakaya, to their profession, their kids, grandkids, all via Google Translate. What an amazing evening.

Best BBQ restaurant we ever had in Tokyo. Quite an local restaurant running by some seniors. If you are near Sensoji Temple, on the way to Skytree, and want to eat a great BBQ away from the commercial area, this is definitely a good choice. It must be a local restaurant with very patient service and a great beef lunch set BBQ.

The food was spectacular! The price was affordable and the service was amazing. I recommended trying the fried chicken skin and their grilled pork belly. We stopped in here for a late breakfast at the opening at 10:00. You could come anytime and this would hit beautifully. The horsemeat motsu is to die for - originally we had just planned on sharing one plate, but had to order another as we needed to eat more of it! The fat is rendered and the meat is tender, with a slight gaminess that makes the whole dish pop. The skewers are no lesser, as we started with the assorted organs (all wonderful) and added shishito peppers and more liver and tongue afterwards. I washed mine down with some hot sake - that’ll clear your sinuses in the morning. Love the smoky atmosphere and the train rumbling overhead, not to mention the incredible prices. Mandatory and singlehandedly makes a trip to Ueno worthwhile.

Like many other reviews already pointed out, this place seems to be quite "japanese only", or maybe it depends on some particular staff, but as others before me have experienced: restaurant had plenty of seats yet I was not allowed to enter and told to go away. Great vibe.

Udon noodle restaurant
Kameya is a well-known standing soba restaurant chain located near train or subway stations in Shinjuku, Kanda, Shinbashi, and Nakaokachimachi. The typical dish at Kameya is tentama-soba, which consists of soba noodles topped with tempura and fried vegetables. All their dishes are priced under 500 yen. The Omoide Yokocho branch in Shinjuku has 8 counter seats while other locations offer standing room only.
This is good food priced fairly despite being in a tourist spot! Usually tourist spots have expensive rate… Agree? Eating here is about the experience… old style way of cooking in modern Japan. When eating here please consider the line of people waiting to eat as well… of course there is no rule to eat fast but please be mindful..

TLDR: short wait for a delicious and affordable cold soba noodle I thoroughly enjoyed eating a cold soba noodle with locals and foreigners all crammed in next to each other. I got the number 1 combo and it was like 600 yen for a tasty bowl of soba with tempura and egg. I would come back and eat this at least once a week if I lived/worked there. It was so refreshing and so good, came out within 1 minute of ordering

We came around 1:30pm on a Saturday. There was a queue of a few people but it went very fast. We tried the option 1 and it was very good. We even ordered an extra vegetable tempura each. Amazing value for money and vegetarian noodle
Aude C — Google review
Stopped into a small soba restaurant in the Omoide Yokocho strip and it ended up being one of my favourite meals of the trip. Yes, Omoide Yokocho is known as a tourist hotspot, but I think the flavours here have been tuned just enough to still feel authentic while being tourist-friendly — the broth was more flavourful than other spots I’ve tried. On a scorching hot summer day, the chef recommended the cold soba, saying it’s what locals go for. Fantastic advice — the noodles had the perfect bite and texture, light yet satisfying. Soba can only be so good, but this was honestly a standout for me. I also had crispy tempura with it — not hugely flavourful, more of a textural sidekick to the soba than something extraordinary. The egg, though, was perfect — rich yolk that broke apart and coated the noodles beautifully (copied this move after seeing the local next to me do it). What really elevated the experience was the staff. Sublime service, attentive, and genuinely warm. It made the meal feel personal and memorable, not just another tourist stop.

My personal best in Shinjuku and probably in all Tōkyō! The food is amazing, both the cold and hot soba bowls are wonderful. It's also full of locals in a cute part of Memory Lane. A great coffee shop in Tokyo and it’s easy to go because it’s in the Shinjuku station. - I ordered pour over coffee with single origin’s bean from Guatemala. That’s so impressive. - The cashier is nice, the barista as well.

On a hot and humid day in Tokyo, we were looking for a place to cool off and came across this café near the park. As is the wonderful custom in Tokyo, the staff were welcoming and kind. We ordered some drinks and sweets, though there were a few challenges due to the language barrier. One of our drinks was served incorrectly, but they were helpful and quickly fixed it. The café had a cozy atmosphere, though it was quite crowded when we visited. The coffee and sweets didn’t meet our expectations. The coffee, in particular, needs some improvement. Overall, it was a nice experience. We liked the friendly service and great location.

Classic tourist trap on the railway. Skip it and go to the next door coffee shop. The coffee was ok, and I liked that they offer a few different drip options to try while you are waiting. But the food was a total disappointment. I ordered a pastrami and avocado sandwich, and it was basically just bread with some warm avocado and mayonnaise. I found one tiny piece of pastrami inside. The bread was overtoasted, and they didn't include the pickles, which are supposed to be the key complement to a pastrami sandwich. What's even worse, the sandwich cost 1200 yen, while the cafe right next door has so much better ones for half the price. It's not even about the money it's just bad quality and careless service. You expect to grab a decent sandwich for your trip and they just let you down, so poor experience. Avoid it.

I came for speciality coffee here, which was quite good. And service is also very nice. The coffe shop is quite busy at 10 am, it’s located inside a station, so don’t dream of relaxing and siping your cup of pour over coffee in quiet atmosphere, it will just not happen. So many things are happening around, lot’s of food, people talking on loud speaker with their children left at home. You can buy roasted beans here and if you buy in advance, you will get a pour over of the same coffee for free, which is a surprising bonus. I immagine this place would be so much better with their personnel and coffee located somewhere else!

A pick up as soon as you walk in the door, Concrete Schoolyard playing overhead. And the wonderful smell, oh the smell!!! They've got a sleek tasting bar where you can try up to ten different coffees -- it honestly looks like a science experiment in the best way possible. Beakers, precision pours, and baristas who know their craft. I ordered the Valencia Latte, a Tokyo-exclusive specialty. It's a hot espresso drink with your choice of milk, infused with Valencia orange -- that bright, citrusy lift -- and maybe a hint of vanilla or citrus syrup. Think espresso meets sunshine. Paired it (unintentionally perfectly) with an Earl Grey and Orange Peel Scone from Sawamura. Didn't plan to match the flavors, but the combo was ridiculously harmonious -- fragrant, textured, and just sweet enough. The baristas were friendly and fast, and the shop is a short walk from our hotel. The latte was so good it ruined office coffee for me -- seriously, I'd help fund a barista if it meant this level of flavor at work. Bonus: they hand you a note for ¥200 off your next drink if you get it during the same visit. My husband drinks four cups a day -- do the math, it's a win. The crowd was a cool mix of locals and travelers -- Japanese students, Swedes, Canadians, Americans -- all soaking in the calm hum of great music and caffeine. Bottom line: sure, you can get Verve in California, but this Tokyo version has an extra layer of style and precision. Come for the coffee, stay for the experience -- it's a full-on performance in a cup.

Very popular establishment. Tried going in for a coffee during lunch time and as expected, I couldn’t even get in. Had better luck when I went back later. I always ask for recommendations when I visit coffee joints, and this time, I was recommended the elderflower latte. It had some grated orange rind at the top, which releases the oil and it hits the nose nicely when you bring the glass to the nose, and the coffee was wonderfully aromatic. Really nice drink.

After a long day of shopping in Shinjuku, I stumbled upon this cafe in a shopping mall. The waffles on the menu caught my eye, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered a mocha and a waffle. Both the food and coffee were quite average and the cafe lacked air conditioning, making it very stuffy and uncomfortable.
SY K — Google review
We were lucky to get seats for 3 at 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon upon arrival. The cafe was quite small and could sit only 10 at the high bar table. Friendly service staff. The hot mocha expresso was rich and awesome. The carrot cake and pecan cakes were delicious. Moist and not overly sweet. The chocolate cookie was quite hard but went well when dipped into hot espresso. Highly recommend!

Japanese confectionery shop

HIGASHIYA GINZA is an elegant and upscale shop that offers a modern take on traditional Japanese sweets and tableware. Their specialty lies in wagashi, which are Japanese confections made with ingredients like rice flour, pounded fruits, and red bean paste. The shop's small, spherical creations have a unique texture that dissolves on the tongue, offering unexpected combinations such as matcha and raisin or chestnuts and brandy.
We reserved a pairing menu that include five variety of japanese sweets and teas. This menu provides us to try best 5 pairings in their place.I had epic harmonies in our months which we have never tasted before.No.2 and 4 parings were special, no.2 is ginger and honey white bean paste sweets,no.4 is pumpkin and cream cheese sweets, these combinations took me a new world in a very good way.You can purchase those sweets at their store. Must reserve when you visit HIGASHIYA GINZA.

The decor was amazing and we were so impressed with the attention to detail for everything from service to design. The tea they offer were also great. We also love some of the dessert they offer. The food was not that special I. It’s say. However, it was a nice experience and we enjoyed it. Note that you are only allowed to take photos of the dishes on your table and not the atmosphere. Guess you will have to go see to enjoy it yourself. Highly recommend if you want to see some amazing decor.

HIGASHIYA in Ginza is a place where you truly feel harmony. Every detail is filled with a sense of aesthetics, from the interior to the presentation. The wagashi look like little works of art, capturing the seasons and the breath of nature. The atmosphere is calm, almost meditative, which makes it easy to savor every flavor. I loved how tradition and modernity blend here so naturally and subtly. It’s more than just a confectionery—it’s a unique experience that stays with you.

Amazing! We wanted to find a true Japanese tea experience before our departure tomorrow. Fantastic choices of matcha (I'll add other pictures shortly), tasty small bites (the citrus and persimmon ones were my favrites). Service beyond anything we have been used to, extremely informative and detailed. Plus.. the reason why I'm posting pictures of the interior is that it's so incredibly beautiful. All those furniture pieces... jaw dropping. I'm normally not posting any bathroom pictures but also that private room... amazing. 10/10. A must go and must see.

A hidden gem among the bustling streets of Ginza. Higashiya Ginza is a meditative experience. I felt relaxed, welcomed, nurtured and energized through the sacred art of tea. The masterful execution is evident in the distinct flavor of matcha. It wasn't as bitter as the ceremonial quality I've tasted before. The matcha is grown in Kyoto and it was subtle, smooth and refreshing. The selection of sweets was divine, each bite of wagashi paired perfectly. Attentive staff were present and not rushed. It was an elegant experience that one can only appreciate in Japan. Sorry you hipster cities but execution in Japan is on another level, the service is unmatched. If you're in the Ginza area you definitely want to stop by. Reservations are encouraged but we were able to get a table as walk-ins. There's also a gift shop to purchase a selection of teas and sweets.

Udon noodle restaurant
Taniya is a cozy noodle spot in Ningyocho, known for its delicious udon dishes. The restaurant is operated by the friendly Mr. Tani and features a glass-encased area where chefs hand-make the udon noodles. There may be a short line during lunchtime, but it moves quickly. An English menu is available for non-Japanese speakers. Customers can watch the fascinating process of noodle-making while waiting in line.
① Restaurant Features Specializing in Sanuki Udon noodles. The restaurant is spacious, and even if there is a line, the turnover is fast, so there is not much of a wait. The staff asks for your order while you are waiting in line and starts boiling the udon in a timely manner, so you will be served your udon immediately after you sit down. ②Order from and ask the staff for your order. ③Payment method: Pay at the cashier counter near the entrance after eating. PayPay is available in addition to cash. ◎Ebi-ten Udon The tempura and toppings of shrimp, kiss, squid, and scallop are gorgeous and fun. Crisp and elegantly fried, all the tempura is sweet and the flavors of the ingredients are enhanced. The udon noodles are pure white and smooth on the surface, with a wonderful thirst-quenching and firm texture.

This place is great for both quick lunch and supper. Cold Noodle : It was one of hot summer day in Japan, so I decided to get cold noodle with ume (plum) pickles with some tempura including sand bore, perilla, pumpkin and chicken. This combo is good for digestion and cure you from dehydration. Warm noodle : My frined got warm noodle. He said he likes gummy texuture. Tempura is decent and soup is great! He would go back again. Suggestion : Go there right after open if you are going for the lunch. Otherwise, you will be in line around 11:40 am.

I had seen great things about this udon place and was not disappointed when I finally had the chance to visit! The curry udon was amazing, probably my favourite thing I ate while in Japan. Great atmosphere, only waited 5min in line, great price and the servers were nice as well!

Great Udon restaurant and excellent value for money! All food is made in front of you. Udon was thick and chewy and the tempura was crispy and fresh. There are cold, hit and hot soup Udon options. There is also an English menu available. Unfortunately, it is a cash only venue.

Accidentally found this udon restaurant on the way back to hotel. I arrived around 18.30 and luckily there is no queue. The atmosphere is cozy but a bit dim at the counter bar. There is an english menu if you request the staff. I have ordered cold niku udon. The cold soup is suitable for the summer and udon is very chewy with a great texture that want to slurp again and again lol. Recommended 👍🏻👍🏻 *Cash only btw

Udon noodle restaurant
Godaime Hanayama Udon Ginza is a traditional-inspired space that offers wide Himokawa udon noodles, served in soups and with tempura. The main branch of Hanayama Udon is situated in Gunma Prefecture, and their Tokyo branch opened in 2017 after winning Japan's biggest Udon Competition three times consecutively. Their specialty dish, Onihimokawa Udon, is uniquely flat and wide-shaped with exceptional taste.
Found this spot off of social media! The thickest of noods! Personally ordered: deep fried shrimp with mitsuba (450 yen, ~$3 USD) tempura assortment udon set 1950 yen, ~$13 USD) a few beers Huge fan of the texture of the noodles. The tempura was fried well too. Although there might be a line...it moves relatively quickly. Total ended up being $22.72. You pay as you leave and they are super efficient splitting up the bill in the end.

Here’s a natural English translation of your review-style text: ⸻ The restaurant’s location was quite good, and I liked that the reservation system worked via QR code. We were able to shop elsewhere first, then scan the QR code around 10:20 a.m.—before the 11 a.m. opening—and were seated around noon. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the dining area was cool and comfortable. Personally, I found the udon a bit bland, but the tempura rice bowl (tendon) was excellent. Next time, I’d definitely like to try the tendon as a standalone dish. Overall, the staff were friendly, and the cozy, relaxed vibe of the place was a real highlight.
Kangil R — Google review
I think the feature of this restaurant is the thick noodles you dip into sauces and enjoy. We grabbed a ticket early and wait 2.5 hours which was okay. We got to shop and walk around Ginza while waiting and there's lots to do in the area. An email is sent before you're up so there is some allowance. My noodles were good and extra size up is free. I had sesame sauce (??) and soy/wasabi/green onion. My set came with chirashi which was as quite good. The tempura is also very well prepared.

We were in the area and decided to stop by this place around 2:30 p.m.. There was a small queue, so we lined up, and about 15 minutes later, we were lucky — the hostess told us they had just enough noodles left for us as the last customers! There were still a few people waiting behind us, so we definitely avoided the long wait many other reviewers mentioned. We ordered two lunch sets for two people and a kid, and the flat noodles were incredibly smooth with a great chewy texture. I found that you can really appreciate the flavor of the noodles when eaten cold and dipped in the sauce, though I personally prefer them in the hot broth. The lunch set also included tempura with rice, making it a very filling and satisfying meal. Overall, we were really glad we stopped by — great experience and perfect timing!

After waiting for this moment!! We now know the trick to get it is…come to que up at 9:20-9:30 then you will be the first group to get the waiting ticket at the machine at 10:00am!! Then u stroll around wait for 1 hours then yes!! You are the first group to taste this. What I can say is worth the wait!!! From the bottom of non-Udon eater - i love it so much and I bet those who love Udon will feel u found ur soul 😇 Beware at 11:03 the lunch waiting ticket is sold out!!! So u have to wait another day We try both hot and cold udon set and both of them are good. But if u r not Udon eater i recommend hot set
Ormy A — Google review
Ordered Ginza set for dinner, had both cold and hot udon and both were amazing, chewy and hearty, best I ever had. The cold one definitely is the best with idk how to describe this texture but I was very sad when I finished it. I didn’t see much review on their tempura but it was also really great! I’d recommend tempura to have with udon when u r here. We reached at 535pm, waited abt an hr to get in, our queue number was 21. They closed the queue at 620pm which was super early so please be mindful of the time.

Get here before opening—you won’t regret it! At Godaime Hanayama Udon Ginza, you can take a queue ticket before the restaurant opens and receive an alert to return when it’s nearly your turn. I arrived 30 minutes early and still waited 3 hours to be seated—was it worth it? Absolutely. This was the best udon I’ve ever had. We ordered the Ginza Set, which included cold Oni-Himokawa with soy dipping sauce, hot udon in a broth-based soup, and a perfectly fried tempura platter with a variety of vegetables. We also tried the Oni-Set, featuring hot Oni-Himokawa with Mugibuta pork in broth. My favorite was the cold Oni-Himokawa—the wide, flat noodles had an incredible texture and satisfying bounce. English menus with photos made ordering easy, the seating was spacious and comfortable, and the service was attentive and pleasant. Overall, an outstanding dining experience—truly worth the wait for unforgettable udon.

This must have been my 5th times dining here, not sure why I have yet to write a review until now. Come around 930am and get in line if you want to eat first round. I came today at 950am and I was #22 on the ticket system. I strolled around Ginza for 57mins before my turn was called, which is pretty efficient for them (I have waited 2+hrs on the ticket system before being #61). They will put up a sign out front when the noodles are sold out for the day. Wonderful meal and quick service. You cant go wrong with any of their options!

Sushi restaurant
Takoyaki restaurant
Minatoya is a popular spot for Japanese seafood cuisine, offering fresh and delicious dishes. Located near Okachimachi Station, it's known for its affordable and tasty seafood bowls (kaisen-don) and flavorful takoyaki made with octopus. The restaurant sources its seafood directly from the renowned Toyosu Market, ensuring high-quality ingredients. Additionally, Minatoya offers unique kakigori with amazake shaved ice and natural fruit or vegetable-based toppings prepared fresh upon ordering.
MINATOYA is an open-air sushi restaurant that truly impressed me. The place offers a wide variety of menu options — every dish I tried was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The quality of the sushi definitely exceeded my expectations for the price — it’s delicious and great value for money. I also tried the takoyaki from the shop next door, and it was just as amazing — soft inside, crispy outside, and full of flavor. Overall, this area is a perfect spot for food lovers looking to enjoy authentic Japanese flavors in a casual, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Taewan E — Google review
Kaisen Don: Had 2 separate bowls of kaisen don here. Granted, the sashimi here isn't exactly the freshest nor are the slices the most ideal cuts by any means necessary (maguro is sinewy and not that soft), but I still think that for the price and variety it is decent value. And to that end, it's imperative to 1) manage one's expectations and 2) choose the correct seafood combination to ensure that you are actually getting something value for money. In otherwords, don't be expecting any top quality uni as it's highly unlikely given the price point thus I gave it a hard pass. So with that said, the kaisen don here is still serviceable for the price if you play your cards right. There's cold tea provided as well so that's another plus, especially on a hot summer's day. Takoyaki stall: Contrary to popular belief and from what I can tell based off my visit, I actually think that the takoyaki stall is a completely separate business from the Minatoya altogether, given that there is a signboard for the takoyaki stall, and eating the takoyaki in the kaisen don shop is not allowed (or so the sign says...). That said, many people still bring their takoyaki and sit in the kaisen don shop to eat it given that they're literally side by side, so I'll just review the takoyaki stall here as well. Prices are very reasonable and the taste is nice. The batter inside the takoyaki is gooey while the outside is nice and crisp in true japanese fashion. None of that dense and doughy stuff you get elsewhere. Bonito flakes and kewpie is self-service so go crazy on it. My only contention is that the octopus inside the takoyaki itself is quite tiny... Ah but who actually eats takoyaki for the meat filling right? Lol. So, if you who are reading this have never had takoyaki in Japan, then you can give this place a go to understand the difference in texture between takoyaki made in japan compared to the rest of the world.
Ethan — Google review
Great kaisendon for its price! Been eating here twice on our trips cause it is so affordable and filling. The quality of the sashimi of course non comparable to high end kaisendon which cost 2000 to 3000 yen. So set your expectation. Beside the food. The stall is quite small but you can easily gegt a set. The staff is fast. Be sure to decide which menu you want to order (the menu, price, and picture is displayed in front of the store).
Maranatha F — Google review
The takoyaki (octopus balls) are quite cheap, so the taste is just average. Most are filled with plenty of sauce and only a tiny piece of octopus 🐙 inside. Still, you can freely add toppings like soy sauce, mayo, and bonito flakes, which is a nice touch! When served hot, the takoyaki are super crispy — that’s the best part! 😋🔥 But if you’re looking for high-quality or premium-style takoyaki, this isn’t the place. 💁‍♂️

🍣 Minatoya — Tokyo’s Budget-Friendly Seafood Bowl Haven Tucked into the bustling lanes of Ameyoko Market near Okachimachi Station, Minatoya (みなとや食品) is a must-visit for anyone craving quick, affordable, and satisfying Japanese street food. This humble spot has earned its reputation among locals and tourists alike. 🐟 What to Try Kaisen-don (Seafood Bowls): Starting at just ¥500, these rice bowls come generously topped with fresh tuna, salmon, ikura (salmon roe), and even uni (sea urchin) depending on the day. Negitoro Tsukimi Don (¥400): A half-size bowl with minced tuna, green onions, and a soft-boiled egg—perfect for sampling or pairing with other street snacks. Takoyaki: Crispy outside, gooey inside, and served piping hot. A favorite among passersby. Gelato & Ice Cream: A sweet finish to your savory feast. 🪑 Atmosphere Minatoya is more of a grab-and-go or quick-bite spot. Seating is limited and mostly outdoors, but that’s part of the charm—eating fresh seafood while soaking in the energy of Ameyoko. 🌟 Final Thought Minatoya proves that great seafood doesn’t have to come with a high price tag. If you’re exploring Ueno and want a fast, flavorful, and authentically local bite, this is a stop you won’t regret.

While they are located under the same roof, the Takoyaki store and the kaisendonya are two separate tenants. Please do not confuse them and please do not take the seats available for the Kaisendonya if you are only buying the Takoyaki. You don't only make yourself look bad. You make all tourists look bad. Kaisendonya They serve very wallet friendly and fresh seafood rice bowls. It's basically plain Japanese rice with your choice of toppings. It's pretty much as fresh as you can get and a fraction of the prices of fancy sushiya. No frills, order at the counter, pay, take a seat and wait for your seafood bowl. You have unlimited Japanese tea to wash your food down, sou sauce, tissue, all on the house. Here's the pro tip. You can get a bowl of lovely miso soup with tuna, vegetables for an extra 100 yen with any donburi purchase. You can also top up and opt for an extra bowl of udon, extra toppings, all at an offer. They open at 11am, avoid lunch time. Takoyaki In my honest view, this beat any and all Takoyaki stores I have tried. And I had tried a lot throughout Japan. You hardly get a Takoyaki that's crispy on the outside yet creamy on the inside. Here you can have this exactly as it should be. Another beauty is the that the toppings are available unlimited on self service. I don't like mayo on my Takoyaki, and I only need minimal bulldog sauce. Here you can add as much fresh Katsuobushi (bonito fish flakes) as you like, add nori, a bit of sauce and you're good to go. The bite of crunchy crust, and the creamy hot ball of dashi dough with a thick piece of chewy tako pretty much blows you away. Remember it's a standing store, queue, buy, add you toppings, eat, dispose of the container at the provided bags, and leave. Do not crowd the space and do not seat at the table reserved for the seafood bowl store. It's a must stop and superb value for money. Enjoy and you can thank me later

Hole in the wall feel, but definitely filled with tourists. The menu is draped in front of the outdoor dining area. You order before sitting down. Given the price, the quality of food was somewhat expected. It was cheap, so the cuts of fish were mediocre (I.e. low quality & sinewy) all around. I thought the atmosphere was great though. Sitting on an old stool next to a huge trash bag while watching the tourist hoard cruise by felt strangely comforting.
Kujo — Google review
the takoyaki tastes sooo good and authentic! I bought 8pcs for ¥500 and I finished it with my partner to fill some space in our tummy. what's best is that all the toppings are all you can take unlimited! of course I put lots lotttsss of bonito on my takoyaki. you can't have a seat to eat so just enjoy it while standing. the guy who cooks is also very friendly and he speaks a bit of english too

Hot pot restaurant
Genkai is a renowned restaurant in Shinjuku, Tokyo, offering traditional tatami-style dining rooms where guests can enjoy set meals of chicken hot pot with rice, pickles, and tofu. The establishment boasts a rich history dating back to 1928, evident in the photographs adorning its walls.
The collagen soup is simply the best especially in cold weather. Portions are also sizable. The service however could be more prompt and polite.

Genkai in Shinjuku – a true institution for Mizutaki. They use Date-dori, a premium chicken known for its rich flavor and firm texture. The deep, milky broth is packed with umami and perfectly showcases the quality of the ingredients. With its serene atmosphere and historic charm, dining here feels both luxurious and authentic. If you want a true Mizutaki experience in Tokyo, this is the place to go.

The food is really good. Went for dinner. 17000 Yen /person. Is worth for the food and atmosphere, but not the service. The service is just very normal, the lady staff not really friendly. Our appointment at 7pm but we was late, reached around 7:30pm... The dishes will keep on coming out no matter you finished your dish or not.... Opening time on google is not updated for this restaurant. Went there for lunch (shows on google they are closed for lunch and only open for dinner) on a weekday and it was very quiet. Tried their limited time lunch set. It was good but wasn’t mind blown…super amazing. The chicken soup was good but wished it was a tad bigger for the set menu.

We were there on Friday night, but we were told that they are fully booked. So, we were told to walk-in at 5pm on Saturday, which is today. So we did. To our surprise, we can only order set menu, which the cheapest one would cost ¥8,640/pax. No ala-carte at all. Our intention of visiting is to try their chicken soup as it was recommended by Google. To our disappointment, the food was just ordinary. To cut short, the fried fish appetiser taste bitter, the cold appetiser was really normal. The chicken broth in the pot was nice, but I'm quite sure packet 鸡白汤 were mixed into the broth for flavor enhancement. The chicken pieces in the broth were obviously the remains from the long brewing broth which is really rough to swallow. The chicken meatballs were not smooth either as it made from chicken breast meat. There's no rice were served to go along with the chicken soup pot. But after we finished broth, with some pathetic chicken pieces untouched, they serve us a bowl of rice drenched with chicken soup. And the rice wasn't pure Japanese rice. They mixed with other long rice grain! Absolute disappointment. Paying ¥8,640/pax for this meal? This is cut throat expensive. The most unworthy meal that I've ever paid in my life. I feels that I've just been robbed.

If you want to try this amazing chicken soup, come for the lunch! Dinner is a little pricy for over 10000yen per person but it's totally worth it if you can afford it. But for ppl who don't know if they like it or not, the lunch set is affordable, same quality as the dinner and you can experience this signature dish in Tokyo. Highly recommended!

Sweets and dessert buffet
Buffet restaurant
Sweets Paradise is a renowned dessert buffet in Tokyo, Japan that lives up to its name. With multiple locations and prices starting at around 1,500 yen, it's a haven for those with a sweet tooth. The buffet offers over 30 types of desserts including popular cakes like tiramisu, berry cake, cheesecake as well as unique options such as baked pineapple cake and tea and white chocolate cake.
1. Location is really near Shinjuku Station 2. We visited on a weekday lunch and made a reservation the night the before so we didn’t have to line up. It’s better if you reserve in advance. 3. This branch compared to Sweets Paradise in Kobe has more dessert choices. The area is clean too. 4. Unlimited dessert, rice, curry, salad, pasta. 5. Recommended to visit on a weekday to avoid to much people. 6. Staff are very mindful of when to refill the food.

I never knew about this place until recently, and it’s kinda a fun thing to do if you’re into sweets. There are different levels of all-you-can-eat options, which include sweets and food, or the specialty at the time which consists of themed drinks that you pay extra for. I went with the normal option plus the strawberry bar, and the strawberry stuff was really good. The other desserts were tasty and plentiful, and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the food, as the udon, curry, potatoes, and salad were decent. It’s time based, so you get like two hours if I remember correctly. It was a fun experience and worth it, if at least just once.

There are a few good things. There is a range of different foods which includes soups, noodles, and mostly desert. But there are some very bad things as well, which overshadow the good parts (check attached images). When me and my girlfriend sat down we almost immediately noticed that the utensils were poorly cleaned, if they were even cleaned in the first place. It seemed like they were just left to dry and caramelize after the previous use. Then, my girlfriend noticed that one of her cherries was rotten with a big hole in it. Then, she ate the normal looking cherry, and immediately spat it out. It was rotten on the inside. We are traumatized. If someone has the audacity to say we’re too picky, then maybe they will enjoy this place. When we almost forgot about the cherry incident and wanted to eat some mangoes, it seemed like they were mostly water, like a watermelon (didn’t taste good).

To those new here, you have buy the store's specials while also ordering here, which comes pretty costly as a drink is like ¥600, and dessert is about ¥800 min. Then, the 食べ放題 special is on average ¥1500 depending on which menu you want to get Honestly, I only came here for the collab and had to get the special as well. The sweets are too sickeningly sweet that even if one likes sweet things, you can't eat a lot bc it's very sweet. It's not worth coming here for the sweets. For those who want to take pics of all these, lighting is not really good so good luck taking nice pictures
YuyuJu — Google review
This store has a few less options comparing to other suipara, but it's still pretty good for the price! The sweets are good and the other things (curry, pasta) are enjoyable too. The collab café was great, they even had some cute character outfits! For any foreigners who don't know how the collabs work: you do have to pay for the all you can eat option + the things you're going to order from the collab menu. They explain this on the website rules and when you arrive you're instructed on how to use the machine to order correctly, it's pretty simple!
Sofia — Google review
Great selection of desserts and reasonable amount of hot food. Unlimited drinks are included in the base price. Just a little extra with you want the icecream as well.
Eric Y — Google review
Definitely don't go here for dinner, but if you like sweets the dessert is pretty good. It's only really worth it tho in my opinion if there is a character collab going on that you enjoy. For me I got a really cool chainsawman dessert and that made the visit worth it to me.
Jared R — Google review
Good place to go and eats as many pies, cakes and sweets you can, they have season products (in my case strawberries) and packages of various prices. They also have some salt dishes in case you are about to have a diabetic stroke XD

Bakery
Takeout Restaurant
Restaurant
Bricolage Bread & Co. is a relaxed cafe and bakery located near Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, offering artisanal French bread, international snacks, and coffee. The establishment consists of a take-out bread and pastry section, a coffee counter run by Fuglen, and a cozy cafe with outdoor seating under shady sakura trees. The collaboration between a chef, baker, and coffee roaster ensures high-quality ingredients sourced directly from farmers in various regions of Japan.
An old time favorite in Roppongi. This bakery café is great for a quick carb pick-me-up or a leisurely lunch. Bricolage is quite popular so the bakery items are variable depending on demand - it's recommended to go before lunch for the best selection. This latest visit was for lunch – everything is extremely fresh and I would highly recommend the salad, fried chicken and shredded carrots. I’ve also had the Wagyu cheeseburger in the past and it was scrumptious. For my fellow travelers – if you are planning to dine-in, go to the counter to the left of the column to order food and drinks. they will hand you an electronic beeper and then you go into the next room to pick up your food when ready. You also wait for your coffee drinks in front of the coffee bar. The register to the right of the column is for to-go bakery items.
J — Google review
We queued for about 50 minutes, so naturally, I was expecting the food to be mind-blowingly good—something truly worth the wait. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. The overall experience felt a bit average, like something you could easily get at other Western-style cafés. Their signature dishes were decent, but nothing particularly amazing or memorable. The chicken karaage, however, was a standout—crispy, juicy, and flavorful—definitely something the Japanese do exceptionally well. The cacao drink was a bit too sour for my taste, and the dark rum coffee had only a very mild coffee flavor, which was underwhelming. The pudding is also average, and the brown sugar tastes a bit bitter... In summary, it’s a nice café, but only if there’s little to no queue. Otherwise, it feels like a bit of a letdown and not really worth such a long wait.
Ian L — Google review
This place is a bit confusing. It's hard to order pastries and then sit down and eat them. The ordering counter for meals (burgers, sandwiches) is at a different place than the ordering counter for pastries, but we wanted to eat pastries in the restaurant. It feels like decisions need to be made very quickly and there's little explanation of how that should happen properly. It's almost just 2 shops in the same building, where the pastry counter has no menu and you just have to take pictures of what's available if you need time to think. I think we waited about a half hour to order (which was reasonable). The pastries were pretty good/okay. I don't think there's enough butter in all of Japan to actually rival French pastries, so that should not be your bar if you're going here. We tried several different pastries and the best were the financiers and the sausage dog imo. That said, the cafe latte and the brown sugar dessert option were freaking phenomenal. I would definitely go back for those, but not really anything else. The burger was juicy, but mostly drowned in ketchup and too sweet.

May 2025: Visiting from the United States and stayed at the Grand Hyatt nearby. Workers are very friendly. Found this bakery that had amazing coffee and baked goods nearby. Coffee was fabulous with wonderful tasting notes 🎶. I normally add oat milk instead of cream. The restaurant had oat milk as an upgradeable option.👍 My favorite baked goods were the bread 🍞 and the raisin roll. Also tried the avocado 🥑 toast. Stayed at the hotel for six nights and this place was my go-to for coffee and breakfast. Probably stopped by for coffee, pastries and/or bread six different times. On the last day of my vacation, I tried a "pain perdu" which was so delicious. Reminds me of a french toast... And I looked up the name and it's literally french toast 😀. Aside from the delicious bread, this is my new favorite! Will definitely come back again when I am in Tokyo again!
Ken W — Google review
One of the most popular bakery shop in the area, lots of people were queuing pf a seat. For take out, no need to wait. I waited for 20mins for a seat, then ordered. This is my third time here, every menu was delicious, especially the bakery. Coffee is ok. Salad and bread are the best
Chan T — Google review
Came on a Saturday morning around 11:00 am. There was already a line and the staff said it would be around a 20 minute wait for a party of 2. It ended up taking closer to 30. You order from the register and there’s separate ones for the bakery side and food. We ordered the jerk chicken bagel and the eggs Benedict toast. The toast was delicious, and the bagel was also solid. A little pricey but it’s a nice ambiance and good location if you’re around Roppongi hills. Also got a sourdough to go, which was delicious.
Sydney F — Google review
The service attitude is bad: the ordering flow was so strange, you have to walk against the flow to check the pastry section after taking the number in another entry. After waiting a while to get a table, I have to walk back to make the order AND the clerk asked me serval times if I have a seat to dine in. I showed her my number ticket and told her I already have one table, then she seemed not believing me and asked me to point out where exactly my seat was. I was traveling solo, how can I put my purse in the outside table and walk back inside to make the order?! Of course I have to carry my purse around, and that does not mean that I don’t have a seat, especially I already told her many times that I already have one seat! Back to the croissant: just average. Crispy but not airy. The dark rum latte is good.

Chinese restaurant
Anda Gyōza Yoyogi Uehara is a bustling hidden gem known for its delectable chewy dumplings featuring unique flavors like ginger, coriander, and curry. The restaurant offers a charming and quaint ambiance with a Michelin bib gourmand recommendation. Their Taiwanese-style gyoza boasts thicker skins flavored with roasted brown oats, resembling more of a jiaozi than traditional gyoza with a tortellini shape.
They have Michelin guide label which I think for their gyoza, and I agrre their suigyoza (wet dumpling?) is one of the best I've had! Not only that, but I feel their menus are not Japanese style which is a good experience personally to get out of Japanese food comfort. Their soboro is especially has a very unexpected shape and is unexpectedly good! Then also their mapo tofu is more like the China / Hongkong Chinese style rather than Japanese, which again I appreciate. Delicious food and I'd recommend!
Jeann K — Google review
This small, pleasant restaurant is renowned for its delicious dumplings (水餃子). The curry dumplings were a particularly interesting and unexpected treat. I also sampled their mapo tofu and rice set meal. The mapo tofu was mildly spiced, leaning towards a sweet flavor, making it very approachable.
Ayaki H — Google review
A place to get some tasty and unique steamed dumplings. I don’t remember how this place got on my list, but I’m glad it did. I went with the set meal, which included 8 gyoza, soboro (pork rice bowl, and soup. It was around 1200 yen and totally worth it. The dumplings come in 4 varieties, such as pork curry, chicken and ginger, chicken and coriander, and pork and cabbage. They were all good and the flavors were distinct. The rice bowl was a nice addition and it’s enough food to fill you up. The space is small but functional. The service was fast and friendly.
Justin S — Google review
Absolutely fantastic place. Previously a Michelin star but deserves one today. Delightful dumplings. I had also the pork and tofu dish to try. It was delicious and a nice change in flavour profile from the normal umami Japanese taste that most places serve up. Highly recommend!
Roshan V — Google review
Visited at lunch time 1pm~ / card acceptable The inside has 6 seats with a table for four and it was fully seated so I was waiting for 10mins. I think some people come alone so the seat should be available soon. The food was served not very fast I was expecting it should be fast but it's okay. The dumplings are shaped like Korean mandu not Chinese gyoza. The four flavors were really tasty and juicy! They use hatomugi which is kind of wheat and good for health and also comes with soup and flavory pork rice. Delicious!
Zui H — Google review
Slightly unique, boiled dumpling/水餃子 focused restaurant in Yoyogi Uehara. Just close to the station, less than 3min and always a bit busy, but the foods are really really healthy and tasty. Four different dumplIngs, simmered pork, noodles, veggies and many other appetizers. First commers had better try their signature dumplings😉 They also serve some alchol and to-go options including frozen dumplings!
Hideyuki T — Google review
Cute little find. Good local vibe. Various boiled dumplings and other dishes as in the menu.
Nareerat C — Google review
This is a Chinese hole in the wall kind of restaurant which specializes in gyoza. They use a special type of whole grains from barley for the skin of the gyoza, and the rice is also mixed with this barley, commonly called Job’s tears. The pork is simmered in star anise, with fermented and pickled wood ear mushrooms and ginger. With many of these herbal and healthy ingredients, the dishes taste fantastic and healthy. I always love coming here for a quick meal when I’m in the area.

Cafe
Japanese sweets restaurant
Located opposite Ueno Park, Mihashi Ueno Main Shop is a renowned cafe that specializes in serving traditional Japanese confectionery. Established in 1948, this charming spot is popular among locals and offers a variety of delightful treats, including the signature Anmitsu - a Japanese dessert made of agar jelly, red bean jam, cooked red peas, and fruits.
Ueno Dessert Review This was a very traditional shop located on the main strip in the Ueno area. Inside, the decor resembled a classic Japanese cafe, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. There was a short wait, but the environment was comfortable and clean. Despite being busy, the service was exceptional—they didn’t rush us and allowed ample time to order. When the dessert arrived, it was beautifully presented. While the portions were not overly large, the quality was outstanding. Each item had a distinct, natural flavor with no artificial taste. At first, I wished the portions were bigger, but I realized they were designed for you to slow down and savor each bite. One highlight was the complimentary hot green tea, which paired perfectly with the cold dessert. The tea was of high quality, not the cheap kind, and had a rich, authentic flavor. The staff consistently refilled my cup, enhancing the overall experience. Great service, excellent dessert, and a warm atmosphere—definitely worth a visit.

We have passed by this shop many times over our last trip staying in Ueno but did not have a chance to try their desserts as we were either too late, too early, or too full. Made it a point to visit and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their desserts and the service the staff provided. The matcha shaved ice was to the point, and please remember to mix it well cos the syrup is right under ice. A perfect after dinner treat and will definitely come again next time I'm in Ueno.
Hun T — Google review
The houjicha (roasted green tea) was the best of the best… not too sweet and very rich flavour. It was a hidden gem of this shop.

We took a break at this Japanese dessert shop for a while. The staff working were very nice oba-sans. We were served plain water and hot tea as soon as we were seated. My daughter had the fruit anmitsu, made up of seasonal fruits while I had the shiratama anmitsu. Hubby had the kakigori with strawberry syrup and apricot topping, and my son had the soft cream ice cream. Overall the desserts were refreshingly cold and divinely sweet. The anmitsu were served in cute porcelain bowls that were just perfect for it

We came in at 8.30pm for the last order but the staff were super friendly and welcoming. Did not remember what were ordered but they have an English menu for foreigners. The red bean paste were so smooth and unlike other red bean elsewhere. Highly recommend coming here for dessert!

OK burgers. Had fish burger and eel hotdog. Underwhelmed by taste. Siracha sauce is the real star here,. not the chef. Panko battering is nice but overall nothing special. Bland flavored with wet ingredients on soft bun. You'll need knife n fork once this slops apart on your plate.

I saw this shop on instagram so I went with friends. Taste is not amazing but satisfying. Better on picture. Service was very nice. Very responding. The space is full of frying smoke. Table and menu has grease on the surface. The ventilation was not so great. I smelled like a barbecue after we finish. Don’t think I’m going back....

Ugh. I went here because it was on a couple of “must go” lists and now I’m wondering why I fooled myself into wasting a meal in Tokyo. The taste is not worth the price or calories. Not to mention the bones my partner got lodged in his throat from his mackerel sandwich. FYI- the Kani-miso almost ruins an otherwise decent croquette. Disappointing. Especially for ¥2800.

Especially came to try out their shrimp burger. It was nice but a bit pricey. It's worth to try it for once. But I think I will go back to MOS Burger next time if I want a Shrimp burger.

I am not sure quite what I expected but this was very nice. The tuna burger is surprising and awesome tasting. The horse mackerel one so ''fishy'' and intense ; for the amateurs it could be a great option. It's a little on the pricey side but I guess the fish they use are top quality and seating is cramped and always full but it's a nice place.

Sweets Paradise in Ikebukuro is known for its collaboration with popular anime works, requiring reservations due to high demand. The store has a friendly and efficient response to collaboration users, offering food, goods, and benefits. It's recommended for those interested in anime culture but be prepared for high competition for reservations. The buffet offers a wide selection of cakes, ice cream, and pasta while the staff provides friendly service. However, some visitors suggest that there could be a wider variety of cakes available.
So fun!! Highly recommend if you’ve got a sweet tooth. They were doing a strawberry fair at the time I visited and had all you can eat strawberries. They offered two distinct brands of strawberries, and both were perfectly ripe and very sweet! Aside from fruits, they have a wonderful variety of sweets and cakes, pastries, as well as a selection of savory food to balance your palate. Great experience!

I regret to admit that it was a quite disappointed experience here, especially as a big fan of Hypnosis Microphone. The goods are cute. But even though it couldn’t make up for those terrible parts, like the narrow place next to loads of big boxes with goods, the small portion of food and preserved-tasted bread and fruit… In the end the staff even asked us to collect the used dishes and cups and bring them to the entrance of the kitchen, while other tables’ guests were not told to do so. PROBABLY WILL NEVER COME AGAIN.
Diana X — Google review
The tables are very frail. May be just the table I had but it wobbled and did not stand upright. Great food and the temperature was comfortable.
Jaden S — Google review
The price was good for it’s amount, can’t remember how much it was exactly but i *think* it was in the 1,000 to 2,000 price range or a bit more than 2,000. Anyway, they have three of four different types of buffet types. We got the one where the Mont Blanc was included. And imo, the Mont Blanc was fine. It could just be me, but i didn’t like it that much. But it does go well with the strawberry ice cream so get that if you are going there! In addition, the highlight of the buffet was the chips. They were really good. And they were included in the buffet type that we got.

I also really loved the 💚🍨 Pistachio Ice Cream that came in quite a generous portion—we finished it of course, considering the massive sweet tooths we are. Apparently how it works with collab cafes is that you are only able to purchase the limited edition merch if you dine at the cafe, and I managed to snag some Haru merch before leaving, so YAYYYY, the purpose of my Japan trip is fulfilled 🤣

Kuri is a small and intimate bar that focuses on offering a wide selection of Japanese sake and other alcoholic drinks like shochu. Boasting an impressive collection of over 100 varieties of sake sourced from different regions in Japan, Kuri provides an opportunity for patrons to immerse themselves in the diverse world of sake.
If you’re here to appreciate and respect Japanese culture and traditions, this is a must-see sake bar with an awesome sake tasting menu and kind polite staff. If you’re the kind of tourist who has to pause and wonder if you’re a trashy American or Australia taking up space that isn’t yours abroad, this won’t be your speed. My partner and I had a great time here. The ambiance is perfectly cultivated, the staff are nice, and the drinks are excellent. You will need google translate to understand everything, but if that is a problem then there are many other nearby places that can accommodate you. I HIGHLY recommend this spot!

We have good ramen that is very close to what is served in Japan. So anyone else coming from the same region what makes this place unique will be the service and culture. Eat your food and move on. The busy Tokyo life is what this was designed for. However, don’t wait an hour for this or pop into a nearby alley way and discover food off the beaten path.

A must try when you are in Tokyo. The ramen has rich broth and pork slices are perfection. Truly a wonderful experience. Will definitely come again. Do go early as there is a long waiting time for this amazing ramen.

🍜 After all these years of visiting Japan, it was finally my first time trying ramen in a capsule. You sit at a counter with a board separating you from the next guest, and in front of you is a roll‑up bamboo curtain. You can’t clearly see the staff behind it, but they serve you quickly—and the ramen tastes exactly like what your tummy is craving. We waited about 30 minutes to get in, which is actually very short compared to other popular locations in Tokyo. For a lunch here, that’s more than worth it.

台灣人不要來吃這間 一直被員工當成中國人對待 自己犯錯沒有收到任何道歉 反而被處處刁難 Around 9:30 PM today, I visited the Ichiran Ramen Spain-zaka branch in Shibuya. I ordered a bowl of ramen, four slices of chashu, and a half portion of noodles. The staff handed me a ticket for the half portion. After finishing my meal, I thought the half portion had already been included in the ramen, so I ordered an extra full portion (210 yen) and gave the staff 1,010 yen, expecting 800 yen in change. Later, the staff came and said, “We haven’t given you the half portion yet.” So I replied, “Then I don’t need the full portion, just give me the half portion.” He said, “Okay.” However, they ended up bringing both the half and full portions. I repeated that I only wanted the half portion and didn’t need the full one. They took the full portion away, but I never got my 800 yen change back. After waiting for a while and no one came, I pressed the call button. Another staff member came, but he only spoke English. I tried to explain the situation using the VoiceTra translation app, but he rudely told me to use Google Translate instead. Then he handed me a smartphone with Chinese pinyin input and told me to type using that. I said, “I’m not Chinese, I’m Taiwanese. I don’t use pinyin.” But he replied in a harsh tone, “Just type it, it doesn’t matter.” It was extremely uncomfortable and disrespectful. Even though I explained multiple times that I’m Taiwanese, he ignored that and kept insisting I use pinyin, which was very offensive. Eventually, the first staff member came back and refunded my money, but never apologized. The issue started because he was training a new staff member while handling my order, and failed to give the correct change. I remained calm throughout the situation, but the second staff member’s attitude made me feel like I was the one at fault. At other ramen shops in Japan, I’ve had no problems using VoiceTra to communicate. Only this location treated me so poorly. It was truly a terrible experience. This kind of service is an embarrassment to Japan. I say this as a customer from Taiwan who has always respected Japanese hospitality.

The noodle is done just nice. The soup is good, maybe a bit too salty. The char siew is better than most I've tried. Definitely worth the queue!

This is my second time at this Ichiran 3 days after my original review. It was even better this time, probably because I customized it more to my liking and because I was hungrier and I wasn’t sleep deprived. Broth is quite rich and umami and the noodles as always great, plus the tender chashu and kikurage and negi. While it isn’t the best Tonkotsu Ramen in Japan Ichiran still delivers the quantity of restaurants with consistent quality.

Ramen restaurant
Tsuta is a modern and sleek restaurant in Tokyo that may seem unassuming, but it's actually the world's first Japanese Michelin-starred ramen shop. Despite its small size, this nine-seater eatery draws long lines of eager customers willing to wait for hours just to savor a bowl of their renowned ramen. The restaurant has elevated this classic Japanese dish by using buckwheat noodles typically found in soba, giving their ramen a unique twist.
We found this restaurant using Google maps. It is a small basement restaurant along a small road. The restaurant is very well decorated with carefully designed Red, White and Black colour combination theme. We have to make our orders from the Self-ordering Kiosk before the host comes over to usher us to our table. Our orders are very well presented when served. The food is delicious. The service is excellent.

Located in the basement of a residential neighborhood in Yoyogi-Uehara, reservations seemed unnecessary as I went at 2 PM on a weekday, there were at least 10 seats open. We ordered both the shio (salt) and shoyu (soy sauce) based broths at JPY 2000 each. A deluxe set with traditional ramen toppings like eggs and chashu can be ordered separately for JPY 4000. Other menu items include A5 wagyu rice bowls, truffle wontons, and kurobuta chasu (Black pig BBQ pork). Both soba bowls had an extremely delicate flavor, almost akin to a consommé, with clean and understated flavors. The figs at the end of the shoyu broth were a very nice addition, completing the dish with a light, dessert-like flavor. From a personal standpoint, I believe the ethos of ramen is as a layman's food that should be reasonably priced and satisfying enough to warrant repeat visits. This restaurant takes the opposite approach, at double the price of an average bowl, in an effort to elevate it to French haute cuisine. It does this by using premium ingredients such as A5 wagyu, Iberian Bellota belly, balsamic and truffle cream, and kurobuta (Japanese black pig). Perhaps I'm being pedantic, but I would recommend anyone to try it out and decide for themselves.

Nice restaurant, serving nice tasting ramen soba noodles. There was a strong flavour of truffle which is nice but potentially too much was used as it overpowered some other fantastic flavours. The atmosphere was a bit too stiff for my own liking but was generally pleasant. The service was very attentive.

I did a "ramen experience" here and it was one of the best highlights of my trip! The food was obviously outstanding, but to get to see the inner workings of the shop and learn the history and the work that goes into the ramen was incredible and really special. Highly recommend doing the experience, or even just coming here for a meal. You won't be disappointed. Service was impeccable also.
Alex G — Google review
Decent soba here. I got the super combo for 4000 yen and a special side dish, ice cream, and bamboo shoots. The bamboo shoots were too peanut flavored; very different from the traditional shoots they put in since it’s extremely thin. The side dish was just half an egg with some meats. It looked extremely fancy but was confusing on its role. The soba overall was plentiful. Good portion size and great taste. It has to be fully mixed though. The ice cream was good vanilla. The balsamic didn’t work for me since it was so strong flavored; it felt like eating a salad. Was it worth 4000 yen? I think I would have enjoyed a local ramen shop a bit more. This felt more like a momofuku with truffle on top which made it difficult for me to score it higher.
Albert K — Google review
Japanese Soba Noodles Tsuta is the kind of place where you understand, almost immediately, why it earned a Michelin star. Everything here has a sense of quiet discipline — from the atmosphere to the way each bowl is prepared. Sitting at the counter is part of the experience. While waiting for your food, you can watch the chef work right in front of you: the precise way he cooks the noodles, drains them, adjusts the broth, warms the bowl, adds the soy base, and finishes the toppings one by one. There’s no rush, no wasted movement — just pure focus. You really get to see the spirit behind their signature shoyu ramen. The attention to small details, the balance of ingredients, and the almost ritual-like process make it clear that this bowl is built with intention. It’s craftsmanship you can witness in real time. The ramen itself is beautiful: a clear but complex broth, perfectly cooked noodles, delicate slices of pork, and dumplings that add a comforting richness. It’s refined without losing warmth. Seeing the preparation up close makes the Michelin awards displayed at the entrance feel completely justified — not because of fame, but because of the work ethic and care behind every bowl. If you appreciate technique, precision, and a deeper look into what makes ramen truly special, Tsuta is absolutely worth the visit. Highly recommended.

Tamai Nihonbashi Main Branch is a popular and traditional eatery in Tokyo, specializing in ma-anago, a lighter and softer saltwater eel compared to unagi. The restaurant is housed in a charming wooden building dating back to 1953. Despite its small size, it's well-loved by locals and often has long queues. The staff are friendly and accommodating, even providing an English menu with instructions on how to enjoy the anago with different condiments.
We find the restaurant by chance (OK, google Maps chance) it was our first time eating conger eel like in this traditional way, and it was delicious. You can adjust the size of the meal to your hunger and choose the way you will your eel (boiled or grilled) Great experience in a pleasant atmosphere. The staff is friendly and helps you with your order.

While exploring the area, I happened to come across Tamai Nihonbashi. The staff were so welcoming and made the entire experience feel special. I ordered the medium eel bento which was absolutely delicious. I was truly moved as I had been searching for eel as good as this for a many years. Many other places had fell short of my expectations but Tamai Nihonbashi exceeded it! The eel bento was heavenly and was the best I ever had. However, the highlight was the elegant and caring service. The server was so attentive and checked on our table as well as all the other customer’s often even though the restaurant was full. She makes you feel at home like you truly belong here. I was so lucky to have lunch at Tamai. It was truly a blessing. This was the peak of my Tokyo trip.

Good experience! They have an English menu, and most importantly, really friendly service. Before I started eating, one of the waitresses explained things to me in fluent English. When I dropped my chopsticks, a server handed me a new pair before I even had to ask. I was really hungry, so I ordered the medium portion for my lunch. But for light eaters, the small size appears sufficient. One really unique thing was the seasoned rice – I'm used to plain white rice, so I really enjoyed this too! I heard Japanese people enjoy eating eel rice in summer, and after finishing mine, I felt energized^^

We were looking for a good restaurant around 日本橋 and found this gem. The restaurant has a lot of history in a little small house in the urban city. They serve 星鰻 which is slightly different than traditional 鰻魚 eel. The price is very reasonable and good portion size. The staff is super friendly and they can speak simple English as well. The food is great and we will definitely come back next time. Highly recommended for all.

The grilled and steamed sea eel were both absolutely phenomenal. I never knew eel over rice could melt in my mouth like that — so delicate, so flavorful. And finishing the dish by pouring broth over the last few bites? Pure genius. Easily one of the most memorable meals I’ve had in Japan.

I like Unagi, go to Unagi restaurants when I visit Japan. This time, I was to have dinner with my wive's little siter and her daughter. If we go to Unagi restaurants, they typically serves Unaju, Unagi on the top of rice. I thought it may be too simple to have Unaju with guests. Tamai's Kaiseki comes with other small dishes, plus Hakomeshi, similar to Unaju but with Anago, not Unagi (they are different but similar). The dinner was very successful. Also, the restaurant itself is somewhat intersting to view from the outsude.

Meishu Center Ochanomizu is a standing bar that offers an extensive selection of Japanese sake, with over 100 brands from across Japan available for tasting at reasonable prices. Visitors can enjoy a 60ml glass of sake starting from 200 yen or opt for a tasting set with three glasses starting from 500 yen. While the food menu is minimal, the dishes are affordably priced.
Just happened to find this place by pure accident by walking near the Jinja. Principe is simple : you pick three bottles of your choice among the hundreds available, and the staff will pour the drinks for you, each glass is 4.5 cL I believe. It’s enough to try and see if you like it. If you do, you can buy the bottle. There’s some snacks too but we haven't tried it. Next time!

We had a fantastic omakase experience at this modern Izakaya. It was actually one of our favourite meals, and we had a LOT of amazing food on our 2 week trip. The space itself is gorgeous. Small, intimate, and just a great vibe to it as soon as you walk in. We seemed to be the only foreigners in there (which I always think is a good sign), and they gave us awesome seats at the counter with a full view of the chefs at work. All of the staff were warm and friendly, and the chef took great care of us. He spoke enough English to be able to explain each course to us, and conversed with us so that we didn't feel left out at all. The food was superb from start to finish, but the ham cutlet was the real knockout dish for me. They also had a great selection of natural wines. We felt that it was excellent value for money. I'd love to go back there on our next visit to Tokyo.

Tenoshima, located in the Seto Inland Sea, is a renowned restaurant founded by chef-owner Hayashi Ryohei. With a background at the prestigious Kikunoi, Chef Ryohei offers a nine-course tasting menu that changes every two weeks, featuring seafood dishes made with locally sourced produce. The restaurant aims to reinvent traditional kaiseki by infusing it with intimacy and creativity while showcasing Japan's seasons and abundant produce.
Had a wonderful time at Tenoshima as part of our first trip to Japan. We had a 9 course meal and every dish was delightful and delicious. Plating was gorgeous, and the wine pairing selections were perfect. The sailfish may have been the best thing I ate for the entire trip. The staff took the time to explain each dish to us in English, including and English course menu. One member of their team had lived in the US so she was able to go in depth about the dishes and answer any questions we had about them. She even gave us a few recommendations of things to see in the city, such as the Christmas light show about 10min from the restaurant. The chef came over a few times to chat with us as well, he even brought out his whiskey stash and explained them to help choose a nightcap. The atmosphere was modern/classic, with gentle music. A great place to just vibe. This place has more than earned it's Star, has been one of the highlights of our trip, and I'll be recommending to anyone visiting Tokyo.

First time trying out an omakase dinner. The 9 course (with a small extra because of my brother's birthday) didn't disappoint as the food was well prepared and had that elegance of Japanese fine dining. Both host were great and had fun chatting with them as they were able to speak to us in English. I just simply cannot rave on how wonderful each of the dishes were, both in presentation and taste. The standout from this menu that impressed me the most was the Mackerel with Carrot Sauce and the Deep Fried Grouper. I can also see why booking is essential because it did get busy as the evening went by. Also worth noting that the course is prepaid when you book, but any extras like drinks is charged back to the card you prepaid your booking with. Thank you once again for this great meal we had.

Such an amazing experience. Its different to European Michelins, where they run around in suits being so posh. Here, you have a pleasant atmosphere, open kitchen, chef really making the food, talking to you, explaining. We enjoyed ourselves so much, definitely would come back next time in Tokyo

Excellent meal! Lovely, friendly and professional service. Every thing we ate was perfectly balanced and thoughtfully prepared. We really enjoyed the introduction to the mountain vegetables. Really added another element to our meal. Thank you Chef and team! We will be back!

I was left disappointed. Until the next morning I couldn’t stop speaking on how dissatisfied my husband and I were left. Some dishes such as the boar with taro I chose to not finish as well as some bland soups served. The chef at some point greets everyone that was there except us. But I really didn’t mind that. What I did mind was the disappointment served plate after plate. I would love to highlight the Spanish Mackerel with Ponzu, it was beautiful along with its drink pairing. Some dishes lacked salt most lacked texture. It was bland and boring. After 21 days in Japan eating at other non Michelin restaurants I was left feeling robbed of a night. We previously stayed a a ryokan were they served similar dishes in the same 8-10 course manner and with just that to compare this place was not it. They have staff who speak perfect English, short but nice. The ambience was dark and moody. The noise level was a moderate low being a small space the thing I could hear the most was the chef having lively conversation with the guests at the counter area. Overall, I do not recommend this place at all. We thanked the chef and left with what we could say was the worst meal in Japan 😔

Restaurant
Ichiran Ramen is an informal and cozy restaurant known for its specialty tonkotsu ramen, featuring a rich pork bone broth. The small shop, Asakusatai, offers various ramen styles and operates from lunchtime until the early hours of the morning. It's a popular spot for enjoying a hearty bowl of flavorful broth, topped with an assortment of ingredients and thick egg noodles. With limited seating at the store counter and a few tables, it provides an intimate dining experience.
I've eaten at several different branches now and the experiences have all been great. Yes, there is usually a queue, but it's so convenient to eat here and the queue does go down pretty quickly as it's not an eatery you hang around! This one had around a 20-30 minute wait and the queue was nicely organised. The ordering screens here are digital and they accepted card payment. As usual with Ichiran, you get your ordering sheet which allows you to adapt your Ramen to how you like it! I prefer extra garlic and very hot, so this is a cool feature. There was no Coca-Cola at this branch though, which was slightly disappointing. As soon as you are assigned your seat, leave your food tickets and order sheet for the chef to collect and they will do the rest. Easy peasy. Food usually comes pretty quickly and if you want to order more, you have all the facilities at your seat - fill in the order form and press the call button! You also get your own tap for water. Nice and convenient and good for fussy eaters!

The queue was long as with many branches but almost always it was worth it. The ramen was cooked beautifully. There is a topping set for 1850 yen. The service was extremely fast, we didn’t wait long for a seat once we entered inside. It was a very fulfilling meal There was a small rumble of the train passing and entering the JR station as we happened to be below the train tracks. But it was handleable.

Enjoying ramen in Japan wouldn’t be complete without joining the queue to eat at Ichiran. I now understand why Ichiran has such a big following: • Their menu focuses on what they do best — ramen. • You can customize every detail of your bowl to your liking. • Ordering is simple and service is quick. • You can order or ask for assistance without speaking, making the experience smooth and comfortable. • The individual cubicles give you a peaceful space to eat and fully enjoy your ramen. I recommend going for the rich flavor option — the thick, flavorful broth pairs perfectly with medium noodles, soft-boiled egg, tender pork slices, and seaweed. Plus, they also offer additional side dishes and drinks if you want to complete your ramen experience. AND THEY ARE OPEN 24 HOURS!

This ramen place is really good and offers an interesting experience. Unfortunately, it’s a very popular spot, so it can get quite busy, especially between 12 and 2 PM. The queue to eat was about 45 minutes long. If you’re coming with a large group of three or more, it might be challenging to find seats together. So, if you don’t mind, you might need to sit separately. On the bright side, the prices are reasonable, and ramen is tasty! (TIP: If you’re seated together, there’s a way to remove the middle wall that separates the seats, enabling you to dine together. However, if you want to truly experience the authentic Ichiran experience, it’s best to leave the wall intact.)

Food is not bad but also not that good. You have your own private counter booth which can remove doors from both sides if you come in with family or friends. There will be a long waiting line considering its in Ueno and right near the train station. They have order sheets for the kitchen to adjust the taste of the ramen to match your preference.
Phát H — Google review
It's a very different experience to eat Ichiran Ramen at its origin country Japan. The ramen everything tasted better than those overseas countries outlet (Hong Kong, Taipei) I tried. Choose the 1850yen straight. Fantastic. I finished everything. I can feel the train are moving above while inside this restaurant.
Wayne F — Google review
Ichiran is consistent and provides a unique solo-dining experience, but the tonkotsu ramen is frankly overrated. I tried the richest broth option and found the flavor profile to be unimpressive and lacking depth compared to local ramen shops. It's a convenient, safe bowl for first-timers, but if you're looking for truly complex or memorable Japanese ramen, you should skip the long queue and seek better alternatives.

Marugame Seimen Tokyo Dome City is a convenient spot to grab a quick and satisfying meal after an event at the Tokyo Dome. The food court-style eating area offers flexibility in choosing where to sit, and the ordering process is straightforward, with staff able to assist in basic English. The Kake Udon with onsen Tamago and side dish were enjoyable, especially in the cold autumn weather.

I went to this place after event in Tokyo Dome. We ordered Kake Udon with onsen Tamago and a side dish to it. The meal was good, and the eating area is food-court like so it's flexible wherever we want to sit. The meal was good, pleasant to have in a cold autumn weather. The ordering process is also a breeze, they mainly speaks Japanese but they can also help you with basic English. Overall a nice place to go to grab your quick dinner after concert. Just bear in mind that once the concert finished, usually not long after that this place will also close, so please consider your timing as well.

I want to give this place a good rating just because it's right across the street from my job but I can only give it two stars for two big reasons. First the atmosphere and lighting of the cafe is incredibly depressing. It never feels like a happy bright place to spend your time with some coffee. And secondly the staff aren't particularly kind and there are so many customers who put their bags in empty seats that I am certain that the cafe has lost quite a bit of money because of it. One good thing I can say though is that they are large black coffee is only $350 which is pretty cheap for how big it is compared to other shops.

Asahiya is a traditional soba restaurant located in front of the main gate of Todai. The menu includes Katsu-don for 850 yen, known for its strong flavor and generous portion size, likely to cater to the nearby student population. The restaurant is often crowded with professors and students from the university across the street. The thick soup served here may be an acquired taste but is surprisingly delicious, making patrons want to have it again.

Asahiya is a hidden gem located near The University of Tokyo, just a short walk off the main street into a quieter side street. The restaurant feels very authentically Japanese. Please note that they only accept cash, so be sure to bring yen with you as no other payment methods are available. The menu is entirely in Japanese, but you can easily use Google Translate or other translation apps. They offer a variety of soba dishes, with slight variations such as plain, chicken, shrimp, or curry soba. I ordered the chicken dipping soba, and it was absolutely delicious! It exceeded my expectations. The soba noodles had the perfect texture—not too soft and not too hard. The noodles themselves were flavorful, and when dipped into the savory soup, the taste spread wonderfully in my mouth. The portion size was on the smaller side, so it may not fully satisfy those with a big appetite. However, considering the price, which is quite affordable compared to nearby restaurants, it was definitely worth it for the quality of the food. Next time, I would like to try the curry dipping soba, since the chicken dipping soup was light and I want to experience the richer, thicker curry flavor. I will definitely come back!
