Pub
Breakfast restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Chatham, The Thomas Waghorn is a charming establishment that beautifully marries history with modern comfort. Housed in a stately building once linked to the Royal Mail, this two-story pub offers a spacious and inviting interior along with an outdoor patio for those sunny days. Known for its British fare and an impressive selection of draft beers, it provides a relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding after a busy day.
This is a lovely building converted by Tim's team and has history of the Royal Mail. Pub is on 2 floors and is located in Chatham town centre. It is quieter than a lot of other Spoons and we were very comfortable here. Stayed for a quick drink but didn't eat so can't really comment on the food or service.

Needs more staff, it wasn’t even that busy but staff were running around barely able to cope. Need to have more than 3 people in a Wetherspoons of that size on a Saturday. I imagine at least one will have quit after that shift or require psychological therapy. Whole place was in an absolutely awful state as a result and wait times were significant. It’s almost distressing watching the poor staff try and cope. One them even told me her shift finished an hour ago and she was staying to help the team out. I was half tempted to start clearing tables myself at one point.
MetroCyc — Google review
Absolutely poor service from the Thomas Waghorn, every single table was full of built up plates and glasses that appeared to be from breakfast; This was around 3pm in the afternoon. Staff was approached about whether there was any staff who could come and clear the tables, and the response wasn’t much better - Young man claimed there were no staff. Additionally, we ordered drinks well before ordering food, the food had came and was eaten before our drinks were even given. All round disgusting service.
Billie I — Google review
Called in a couple of times on a Sunday and both times tables were not cleared for ages after people had gone. Left over food was being eaten by presumably homeless people who were roaming round the place scavenging. We saw this on both visits and at one point there was not one single table free from clutter upstairs. The person bringing out food upstairs repeatedly walked past tables that needed clearing with an empty tray. More staff and training is needed. On a positive note the barman downstairs was friendly and helpful.
Richard W — Google review
The Building is very lovely indeed. Went with a friend for lunch and the venue was full of uncleared plates and glasses. It’s very loud when busy, it’s normally busy when I’ve visited. Ordering was an ordeal as my foot ware got stuck to the carpet and I couldn’t move for a few hours… I’m obviously joking, only stuck for one hour. Sorry, obviously I didn’t get stuck at all but some areas are sticky… Food seems microwaved on some choices and freshly cooked for others. Toilets are massive and impressive. Outside area feels cramped and feels like you’re there with everyone. A lively, noisy atmosphere. Food wise, average and cheap.
Darren — Google review
Lovely building. Friendly staff. One thing I always forget about Wetherspoons is the chips are not always that hot, I find this with most Wetherspoons, everything else on the plate is hot though.
MsShelleyWilliams1 — Google review
Service was awful, we ordered from our table, our drinks sat there for 5 minutes, a few members of staff walked past on numerous occasions, so I decided to go and get them myself. Our food sat there for over 8 min before we got served, considering my wife had a baked potato with a side salad, sitting on a heated surface, not great. All in all, the venue inside looks good, the service however is awful, we've visited plenty of Wetherspoons and won't be returning to this one.
Jon L — Google review
The service in this pub is terrible. It's been getting worse for months. This evening 7 customers waiting and one person serving. I waited 15 minutes to get served. Some of the female staff are particularly rude I recall from other visits. Clearly this is not the manager's fault but the area manager and head office for penny pinching. Yes a cheap pub but surely the service could be better. Tables were swimming in beer and debris. Please don't patronise me or other customers if you are head office and tempted to write how sorry you are. Fact is you won't lose any sleep over this review and there are plenty of other pubs to enjoy a reasonably priced drink apart from JD's. Too bad, as I used to really enjoy JD's once upon a time.

Diner
Breakfast restaurant
British restaurant
Mickey's Diner is a delightful stop that captures the essence of an American diner, making it a must-visit for anyone passing by. With accessible parking and facilities, including dog-friendly areas in the conservatory, it's welcoming to all. The atmosphere is clean and inviting, with quirky decor that adds character. The extensive menu offers everything from hearty breakfasts to delicious bacon cheeseburgers, all served promptly and without greasiness.
An excellent breakfast! The combination of items on the set menus were good enough for me, but I actually liked their policy of not allowing omissions or substitutions. It keeps it simple for the kitchen, and so speeds up the service. The ingredients were good quality, and perfectly cooked. Simple food, perfectly prepared. I look forward to coming back next time I'm visiting Brands Hatch.
John P — Google review
So we visited this diner for the first time today, on arrival we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who advised us to sit where we wanted. We ordered a breakfast and a bacon cheeseburger and chips, the foot turned up in a timely manner and was tasty and not greasy at all, we had two can of drink, which I though where a little over priced £1.80 each, Overall would definitely come back, the staff where friendly the service was good and the deco was pleasant , Well done mickeys diner

Highly recommended. This was our first visit, for breakfast, the diner was spotlessly clean, the staff were friendly and the food arrived quickly and piping hot. Really good value and one of the best restaurant veggie breakfasts my Husband has had.
N/Bio — Google review
I've driven past this place so many times so decided to stop this time. There's disabled parking and toilet and water outside for dogs which I believe are allowed in the conservatory part away from kitchen . The surroundings are a bit basic but do remind you of an American diner and it's very clean. Food was spot on and they have a very wide ranging menu . So overall I recommend stopping to fuel up and eat oh the tea is superb much better than service station tea and coffee
J H — Google review
Absolutely loved it here. The staff were fast, super friendly and sweet. They were on top of every mess and spill and quick on their feet. The place was incredibly clean, smelled clean and the food was delicious and very homey. Felt like Mum's cooking from home. 10/10 would come back any day of the week to eat here. Absolutely loved everything from food to the fun decor and comfortable seating.
Bunny — Google review
Driven past this place a million times - and today had the opportunity to enjoy a proper Saturday morning breakfast. Simple set up done well. Swift service, clean and tidy place - with an 80’s vibe - and decent portions. Only criticism would be soft cold toast. But good value at £11 and enjoyable.

Good food and atmosphere. Good prices. Good choices and helpful friendly service. Would recommend
Raymond S — Google review
I had the spaghetti bolognese and it was reall good. It was very good food, i also had bread and butter pudding and it was really good. I sat in the conservatory since dogs were only allowed in there and It was really clean. The service was also very good and very quick and i would definitely recommend going there if you are in the area or want some nice food.

Coffee shop

Starbucks Coffee, the iconic Seattle-based coffeehouse chain, is a beloved destination for caffeine enthusiasts and snack lovers alike. Known for its signature roasts and delightful light bites, this cozy spot also offers a welcoming atmosphere with free WiFi—perfect for those looking to work or study while sipping on their favorite drinks. The friendly staff adds to the charm; many customers rave about their experiences with team members who create a warm and inviting vibe.
One of my favourite Starbucks stores to visit, love the staff (Jazz is always in and always super bubbly and lovely!) and even the others fit right in (Izzy today was lighting up the place too). Lots of people choose to sit in here and work or study so the vibe is really chill and lots of places to sit with your back to the wall for when you need your work laptop screen to not be on display to everyone. Only a real wonka would go anywhere else!
Andrew C — Google review
The team here are next level! I asked for them to pick me a hot drink today and they aced it! Picking something I probably would never have tried! (Macha Green Tea Latte). The team are super friendly and maintain a really nice and clean coffee shop. The drinks were made quickly and the service was great.
Bill C — Google review
Really poor experience yesterday I haven't been here in a while as I actually find it quite expensive and not worth the money.... yesterday the place was really dirty every table was messy. Dirty tables, dirty floors, im heavily pregnant ... used the toilets they were absolutely rotten. They definitely haven't been cleaned properly in a long time. No toilet roll lucky I had tissues couldn't even sit on the toilet even if I wanted to just disgusting. I politely said to a male staff that the toilets had no toilet roll and that they weren't very clean he shouted back at me and said can't you see that we're busy. I responded not good enough just letting you know. He pulled a horrible face at me. I then finished my drink which was meant to be a cappuccino. But was more late. I had a tuna melt which was to over heated and ruined it. Bread was so hard. And it's so over priced. Won't be going again !!. You either need a cleaner or more staff. Disgusting place and service.

Lovely customer assistant Isabelle is an absolute credit to the Starbucks team down at Chatham dockside. So easy to talk to and very attentive to detail. You do an amazing job and thank you for making my visit worth while! :) you deserve full recognition. - Jess x

what a fantastic array of staff. i wanted jazzy to receive a special shout out-wow what an amazing person! jazzy helped me elevate my drinks order today and it absolutely did not disappoint. their service was absolutely fantastic and should be seen as a real credit to this store. my friends and i left the store extremely pleased with our service and drinks today!
Shannon H — Google review
Ordered food this morning via Just Eat. I would like to share how disgusted I am with what I have received. The coffee in the photo is supposed to be a latte but it’s clearly their impression of a cappuccino which was 3/4 full. Then moving onto the lovely sausage bap, if I wanted dental floss I would have pursued some. But no Starbucks provides it for you in the form of a lovely black hair among your food. Clearly they don’t care about the quality of their food and preparation they need undertake just to do such a simple task.
Mollie H — Google review
Excellent service felt really welcome. Big shout out to jazzy who went above and beyond, making sure my drink was re-made to my satisfaction while still providing excellent customer service.
Jenny C — Google review
Really poor experience. There were 4 members of staff behind the counter, but they needed almost 5 minutes to notice me. That would make easier to understand the young man if he could remove his hand from his mouth. And would be more hygienic. I saw rubbish on the tables and on the floor. At least the coffee was hot and strong, so it is better than one star. But this is not enough to come back again.

McDonald's is a beloved fast-food institution that has been serving up delicious burgers and crispy fries for years. During my recent visit, I was impressed by the warmth of the staff, who were quick to assist customers, including those in need. The atmosphere felt welcoming compared to other locations I've visited. I indulged in the Big Arch burger paired with a milkshake and fries; while the burger was delightful, the fries could have been warmer.
It’s Burger King so you know what you’re getting. The good thing here though was the staff. Louis or Lou was the stand out for me. Bright smile, clean uniform lots of energy without even trying, she even bought my family’s food over to the table. There was an issue on the kiosk and she had it sorted in a second too. The food was piping hot.
Marcus ( — Google review
Dined inside the premises today. Tried the Big Arch burger, as a meal with a Milkshake and Fries. A very friendly and helpful employee helped me navigate the options on the Screens to order. The Big Arch Burger was very tasty indeed and I recommend that you try it. Sadly my Chips were cold, no idea if this is normal at this McDonald’s? My Milkshake was so nice but the Straw Wasn’t fit for purpose, Epic fail. Definitely needed another straw to finish as my cardboard straw closed in on itself… Seating was a little crowed and congested. Air conditioning was keeping the premises cool and the atmosphere seemed relaxing. Overall, a tasty Burger that I would eat again in the future. Very tasty.
Darren — Google review
This food is a cold, soggy, rock-hard disgrace. Pure garbage. I wouldn't feed this crap to my worst enemy. AVOID! Especially in uber deliveries
Manasa J — Google review
Received delivery for my son & me. Tried to phone Macdonalds, Chatham., call kept cutting off. Food not well packaged & outer packaging ripped. Food is not cheap, so great care would be appreciated. I am a regular customer. Thank you.
Lucki K — Google review
We placed an order through Just Eat and, unbelievably, over two hours later, we are still waiting for our food. This isn’t on Just Eat — the blame lies entirely with the restaurant, which kept pushing back the delivery time without explanation. We didn’t order anything complicated — just a basic burger meal, not a three-course dinner from Miller & Carter. Yet here we are, hours later, still waiting, with no food, no communication, and no way to cancel the order. This is an absolute disgrace. The way this restaurant operates is completely unacceptable — disorganised, unprofessional, and clearly not capable of handling even the most basic orders. Avoid at all costs.
Benjamin E — Google review
Toilets are upstairs which makes them inaccessible for some. The food was hot which makes a nice change. The thing that stood out to me was how they are quick to serve the many homeless people that they allow into the store! This to me makes this store one of the best!! Makes a huge difference compared to the one in Dartford who have security guards preventing kids from entering alone! Well done to the staff in Chatham!!
Nikki R — Google review
they didn’t let me and my friends eat in there because i am a skl student because of a fight that had occurred last week with sixth formers but they’re allowed in there and upstairs infact but i got sent out in the rain.

The Avenue Cafe is a delightful spot that has recently undergone a transformation under new ownership, making it more inviting and comfortable for diners. With an extensive menu that caters to all tastes, you can find everything from hearty breakfasts to satisfying lunches and dinners, including tempting specials. The selection of sandwiches, baguettes, and Paninis boasts a variety of fillings sure to please any palate. During my visit, I enjoyed a delicious sausage baguette paired with a creamy coffee—both at an incredibly reasonable price!
A warm welcome and attentive service throughout. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. My husband said that his BLT baguette was the best he's had. A very enjoyable experience, we look forward to returning.

Ordered 2 omelettes.. one Spanish and one cheese with extra black pudding.. came to £30!!! Absolute joke.. totally over priced!!! If you buy an add on single egg it’s £1.30!!! Go to Herne bay and you get full on English breakfast with everything for £7.50 and a lot nicer!

Absolute Garbage , have tried this place a few times , but it never improves , actually gets worse , took a friend for breakfast this morning , elected for Ham Egg & Chips @ £5:50 a head , OMG ! 😦 , so was served up with half cooked chips , Ham , so called lol! That was the cheapest rubbish out there , probably nearer plastic than ham !, the smallest egg in the World , absolute inedible rubbish , also the staff did not know the difference between coffees , wasted £17 , will never use this place again ?

Smashing cafe, the cafe changed hands fairly recently and the new owner has given the dining area a refit so it looks much better and is more comfortable. The menu is vast, from set breakfasts to lunches and dinners with a number of specials too! There are sandwiches, baguettes and Panini's with a wide range of fillings.I had a sausage baguette ( see photo ) and a milky coffee which cost around £7. The young lady who was waitressing was friendly and had a great rapport with customers. There is a customer toilets. There are vegetarian options You can park outside free of charge for a limited time but more than enough to eat a meal.

Popped in here this morning because my usual cafe was closed and I'm very glad I did. The guy that greeted us was lovely, food was 10/10 and reasonably priced. Pricing is extremely fair, and there are lots of options. Toilets available. Outdoor seating and plenty of indoor seating. There is a step up to get in and the floor to the toilet is uneven, so wouldn't be suitable for wheelchair users.

My Son and myself had breakfast here today. Very impressive, tasty food, cooked fresh. Nice comfortable Booth seating, which is ideal as you have your own section. The Food was Great value for money and didn’t have to wait too long. Waitress was polite and friendly. Highly recommended. Edit: Had lunch here today and tried a Cheeseburger and Chips. Nestled in the heart of Chatham Marina, the Ship & Trades Hotel is a modern gem that beautifully blends contemporary design with its rich maritime history. Housed in a former dockyard engineering works, this steel-framed inn offers guests an inviting atmosphere complete with a bar and complimentary breakfast. During my recent stay with family, we were greeted by friendly staff who made check-in seamless and hassle-free. Our superior room boasted stunning views of the marina and was impeccably clean and well-equipped.
We had a lovely lunch here yesterday. We went for the chicken and ham pies, mash and veg, and it was delicious. The mash had a really nice flavour to it, the pie very meaty and the veg was just divine. We were served throughout by the welcoming, polite and helpful Tracey. To top it all we had a glorious view over the marina, looking at the boats in the sunshine. It's not our first visit and certainly won't be our last. Thanks to the kitchen staff and Tracey for a lovely lunch. Recommended .

Lovely evening meal tonight. Mum had the sausage and mash and I had the crispy chicken fillet burger. Service and care by our waitress Chloe was fab. Very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for her. She is a credit to the hospitality industry and the company she works for. Will come back X

Superb location. Expensive food and limited Menu. Small portions. Top level decoration throughout and furnishings. In the Summer time/good weather, its very relaxing to sit outside admiring the Boats. Pricey compared to other similar pubs but a higher level of standards here.
Darren — Google review
We love it here and come most weeks however trying to get served while at the bar is a nightmare. You can wait when the bar is empty, there are several members of staff by the kitchen pass staring at you and reluctantly one eventually serves you!! The manager should be all over the poor bar service and in my opinion should be more attentive and get to know their customers. Cold and un-engaged, you’d actually do so much better if you’re staff were interested, showed empathy and were enthusiastic.
Kevin L — Google review
Be aware if visiting: Parked here and ate with friends, ignored by staff, got attitude and no staff or any obvious signs saying to register your vehicle for parking or you'll receive a £60 fine (only if paid early). Even online it says the reception, management or staff are supposed to mention it, yet not a single person or visible sign mentioned this, very sneaky for having a private car park when your stopping there for food with friends.
Dan E — Google review
Was over here on a friday night ahead of a family gathering the next day. The staff and service was 10/10. The shepard naeme stout and food was great! Would recommend to anyone if ever passing through this area. Child friendly too!
Jymit — Google review
Just ate lunch at this place the food quality was, quite frankly, appalling for the price point. Chips were disgusting dry and had been sitting out for hours. FIsh was greasy, sausage and mash was slop and baby meal was dry. Won't be eating here again. Baby high chairs are unsafe as the central part that goes between the legs isnt on the high chair properly. A baby could easily slip out.

A little visit yesterday to this pub on ST Mary’s Island to meet with old friends, nice location on the dockside with lovely outside seating. Great decor inside and nice variety of seats, toilets were very clean and looked modern and well kept. Did not have food but looked nice size position’s and looked very tasteful on the items that went past me, seemed the prices are a bit on the high side. Service staff looked friendly some staff could smile when they serve you and also for our many behind the bar service was a bit slow. Nice pint of First Stop ale but again on the high side.

While some dishes, like the jacket potato, may arrive warm rather than piping hot, the friendly and attentive staff ensure a pleasant dining experience. Families will find something for everyone here; from burgers to paninis, there's plenty to satisfy all tastes.
Just had a really great lunch. This cafe serves a wide variety of freshly made food that is both warm and comforting.

Food is lovely and fresh. Fry ups great portions. Sandwiches I haven't been anywhere that does a better one than here. Service is always friendly.

Tea house
Nestled within the charming Squirrels Riding School, the Squirrel Nutkins Tea Room is a delightful haven for both dog lovers and food enthusiasts alike. Open seven days a week, this friendly tea room offers an inviting atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating options, perfect for enjoying a meal alongside your furry companion. Guests rave about the home-baked treats available daily, as well as hearty breakfast options that include generous portions at great prices.
Put your blinkers on before entering this place because it's so hard to resist the sweet treats on offer. The cakes and apple pie look scrumptious. We had a traditional breakfast which was great.

Cant really comment too much as didnt end up eating here. Seems just like a cafe attached to a riding stable. No-one serving, as we walked and no sign of anyone that should be, waited 5 mins still no one came, place stunk of greasy cooking so walked out. Passed someone in carpark with a couple of mugs in her hand who we assumed was the server, never even acknowledged we coyld have been waiting. So wont be going back. Went originally on a recommendation so maybe we just picked the wrong moment

Update 15 April 23. Went for breakfast after a walk. Big breakfast option including beverage plus 2 orange juices, £21. Bug breakfast comprised of 2 x bacon, egg, sausage, hash browns, toast and beans, mushrooms and tomatoes. Plus tea or coffee £8.50. Bloody excellent value. Took my sausages home for the dog as a treat. I ate the rest! 😳 A little gem, tucked away, overlooking the Squirrels Riding School. Used as a pit stop from a long walk. Open 7 days a week, not sure of hours though. Food freshly cooked and very reasonably priced. Staff were lovely and welcoming. Shall definitely be going back. I had a bacon and egg sandwich, my friend, dippy eggs with soldiers, 3 cups of tea and an orange juice, £16.

Having read how good this place was and seeing the carpark full I expected it to be busy but we had the cafe to ourselves at Sunday luchtime - food was good, and prices excellent - highly reocommended

Tucked away but well worth finding! Big breakfast was amazing . £8 for 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, 2 hash browns, mushrooms, beans and tomatoes…oh and the warm buttered toast. ‘Dog breakfast’ was an added bonus for our dog. Staff really lovely and service quick. Will definitely be going back!

Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. We were about to walk past but I saw the sign at the top of the lane and had to go in as it's been recommended previously. We had a tea and a piece of cake each, which we enjoyed outside while watching the horse riding lessons in the sun. The ladies were lovely and super helpful. Will definitely be back.

Out cycling with a friend we stopped for refreshments. For £10.50 we had 2*coffees, 1*sausage roll, a cinnamon roll & a huge ham salad baguette. Very good value. A lovely tidy cafe with friendly staff hidden away in the grounds of Squirrels Riding School. Could do with larger signage on the road & in the village as easy to miss.
