The Armoury is a charming riverside gastropub with an imposing, historic feel and a stylish, eclectic menu. The interior features exposed brick walls adorned with bookshelves, offering a cozy atmosphere for families and solo diners alike. With its open fires and large windows overlooking the river, it's the perfect spot to enjoy fresh food, cask ales, and wine.
We arrived early as we had to leave the AirBnB by 11, but they were happy to show us to our table and leave luggage piled up whilst wandering around the quarry. As we just wanted a snack, we got three mains between us (Lamb shoulder, roasted duck leg and battered fish n chips) which everyone enjoyed - lovely rich gravy with the first two! All around wonderful relaxed service - would heartily recommend!

Great place! Food is excellent and the staff are very friendly and attentive. I think this place is really good value. The ambience is great as well, love the decor.

The outside seating was great! Food was amazing too. Really friendly and helpful staff couldn't have asked for more

Friendly service, but the only vegan option was pretty poor, the tagine was good, the broccoli too although that was a little cold. It was the couscous, no flavour and it’s simply awful, fortunately I mixed most of it with the tagine which had a nice flavour. The white sauce on the side was a bit of a nothing slightly coconut tasting sauce, added nothing. Had some chips on the side and these were good. There was no vegan desert option, well there was that frozen fruit nonsense but how is that a desert? went to Flora Lounge for chocolate and raspberry torte, they had two vegan desert options. The website which we looked at in the morning boasted of a proper main and desert, none were available as it was a Sunday and their Web had not updated. A meat eating friend had a hair in it, which was dealt with ok, it was odd that the guy asked “do you want me to get you a fresh one” which is off phrasing when dealing with a customer complaint, but the older chap came over and apologised profusely, so not bad customer service on that. But it’s the lack of vegan options which is why we won’t be coming back for food, do yourself a favour, bin the couscous. May come back for drinks though as it’s a nice enough place otherwise.

Excellent as Always, one of the reason's we keep on coming back! There was a group of 4 of us and we had a fab meal last night, with prompt service, Excellent food, all served by a lovely, friendly, pleasant young waitress. There's always a great atmosphere here too.
Angela C — Google review
We had booked a table for two on a Friday night. It was busy when we arrived at 8pm but seated promptly. No problem catering for lactose intolerance. Delighted with our lovely server who was very attentive despite a full restaurant. The food was exceptional. I had the crispy beef salad. My daughter had a mushroom, red pepper and haloumi burger. We had desserts and a bottle of wine. At £80 I thought it was good value.
Sarah M — Google review
A lovely location overlooking the river. The cauliflower & blue cheese soup was delish!
Oona O — Google review
Was not very impressed with the quality and quantity of the children chicken goujons. Since when has a child's meal consisted of just 2 tiny goujons? It was pitiful for an upmarket pub/restaurant. The fish was over cooked and chips were lukewarm. Dessert was very small. Clearly a business making cutbacks at the expense of the customer! Very disappointing Brunning Price. You need to up your game to win us back.

Pub
Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Shropshire and Staffordshire, The Boathouse is a charming riverside pub with a large wooden deck offering stunning views of the river. This mock Tudor establishment boasts exposed beams and a modern bistro menu that reflects the rich culinary heritage of the region. Whether you're looking for a casual drink with friends or a delightful dinner al fresco, this iconic spot provides an unbeatable setting.
We’ve finally found our favorite spot in Shrewsbury—and it’s The Boathouse! This place truly has it all: breathtaking views, a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and delicious food and drinks. The location is unbeatable, right by the river with picture-perfect views of the water and the bridge. On sunny days, there’s nothing better than sitting outside, soaking up the sunshine with a cold beer or cider in hand. It’s so peaceful watching the ducks and swans glide by, birds flying overhead, and people kayaking along the river. It really gives you that holiday feeling without ever leaving town. On our first visit, I tried lamb for the very first time and went for the Moroccan Lamb Tagine—absolutely packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. We also had the BH Burger, which was juicy, tasty, and very satisfying. The food overall was fantastic and clearly made with care. The staff were friendly and attentive from the bar to the table. The whole experience—from the scenic setting to the great food and top-notch service—made it one of those places you want to come back to again and again. Whether you’re local or just visiting Shrewsbury, The Boathouse is a must-visit. We enjoyed every minute spent there and will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

Pretty restaurant with great food with a beautiful water view. It was quite busy on Sunday around noon. Didn't get the roast or the burger but both looked delicious! Bangers and mash 👌🏽
Sachin S — Google review
We were visiting Shrewsbury and looking for a restaurant with view of the river. This was highly rated. There was limited parking and we parked in the city center & walked across the Port Hill Suspension Bridge. The ambiance inside and outside the restaurant was lovely. The staff were very nice. We enjoyed the food and drinks.

The boathouse is located on the river severn, opposite the Quarry Park in Shrewsbury town centre and not far away to Porthill. The food was great, I had the Honey Roasted ham and cheddar bap with skin on fries, and it was amazing. The service was good, and the staff greeted me with a friendly smile, and the price for my order wasn't that bad for the amount of food I got. If no one has been here before, give this place a try and have a taste for yourself.
Liam B — Google review
Lovely riverside pub with great service and a good selection of beers and food. We went a on a lovely sunny day and spent a few hours sipping drinks and watching the boats and rowers go up and down the river. Very nice and well worth a visit.
Ade G — Google review
Went here on bank holiday with my partner and his family, beautiful place and nice atmosphere, the staffs were lovely and nice but the experience left me embarrassed! I had placed an order with my partner’s mom for food for 4 people. My partner and his parents food came first and for more than 10mins mine didn’t even when the order was placed at same time. Everyone was waiting for my food so we could all eat together but we kept looking but no sign of my food. My partner mom had to go ask only to find out they’ve forgotten about me. The food finally came and it looked and tasted like leftovers. I had order spaghetti with prawns as it’s was my favorite meal but that day I regretted making that order, it was so soft (overcooked or reheated for too long) it didn’t taste fresh or good. I sat there swallowing the food until I couldn’t handle it anymore. Left there hungry and angry but decided to keep my cool.
Success J — Google review
Disappointing experience. The waiting staff were doing their best but the prices did not match the quality of the food we had...6 of our 8 meals were not what they should have been...dry, overcooked, poor presentation, lacking in flavour, etc...(Eg. Shepherds pie devoid of gravy/moisture, dry/overcooked chicken Kiev, pasta sauce that wouldn't have been out of place on a supermarket shelf, etc). We stayed for desserts that were unremarkable but adequate.

Wine bar
Ernest & Co is a trendy wine bar located in Shrewsbury, offering a delightful outdoor dining experience in a courtyard garden just off historic Wyle Cop. The venue features communal tables for large groups, heat lamps, and rugs to keep guests comfortable. They host events like boozy bottomless brunch on Saturdays and Tapas Tuesdays. In addition to their excellent selection of fine wines available by the glass or bottle, they also serve phenomenal cocktails.
Great little place with excellent choice of small "tapas" style food. Great wine by the glass or bottle. Very helpful and professional staff. Watched the cocktail making with great interest.
Stuart H — Google review
Had a lovely time here on a Saturday- they were able to fit us in despite it being very jam packed and the food and drinks were lovely- service took a while, but they seemed very understaffed and the staff that were working were very good- I think they could have done with more people to lighten the load
Emily G — Google review
I went here yesterday with my family and from start to finish it was exceptional. The staff are lovely, the food was even nicer. It is an absolute gem in Shrewsbury and we'll definitely be back. We had a fabulous time.
Ali C — Google review
It may sell fine wines but when the wines are mostly £35+ a bottle they need to be good but had just had better across the road in Tanners for a cheaper price. Service was patchy, had to stop people as they walked past to get things. One wine on special was on the last bottle by 6pm on a Saturday and still worked out at £13.50 for a large glass. Don’t think we’ll be back.
Neville H — Google review
We were staying at the lion and pheasant next door and popped here for a quick drinks before heading out for the night. We were greated by a very lovely member of staff. The service was exceptional, her product knowledge was fantastic i really enjoyed my wine. The atmosphere was great, very rustic but modern too. We will be coming back when we visit shrewbury again.

Myself and my family went yesterday for bottomless brunch. We are in Shrewsbury for the weekend and it was the highlight of our weekend. The food was amazing. Staff were so lovely and the outdoor area was such a cosy atmosphere. Will 100% be returning!

Pub
Nestled along the scenic banks of the River Severn, The Woodbridge Inn in Coalport is a charming and quirky retreat that perfectly blends comfort with culinary delights. This delightful inn features both an inviting indoor dining area and a picturesque outdoor terrace, where guests can soak up stunning river views while enjoying their meals. Known for its smart gastropub dishes and hearty roasts, The Woodbridge Inn caters to various tastes, although vegetarian options may be somewhat limited.
Great traditional food at reasonable prices. Good stock of beers and gins through other spirits are available. Plenty of spaces for parking and nice views of the river Severn if seated in the right place. Plenty of seats outside to eat too whenever the weather picks up. Like to add I had the steak pie and was great with plenty of meat which I tend to find at other places usually lacking!!!
David B — Google review
Absolutely beautiful pub in an amazing location. Plenty of parking too. Really delicious Roast Beef and trimmings. Very friendly Staff, Grace was our Server and she was great! There's a lot of tables but its very well organised, we were served very professionally and efficiently. If you want a table with a view (of the gorgeous bridge and river) then you will definitely have to book. Dog friendly with a great doggy water station outside. Toilets very clean. Only loses a slight point due to the Roast Chicken being a tad bland but apart from that, everything was great!
Sarah — Google review
Beautiful location overlooking the river. We went for Easter Sunday lunch and it did not disappoint. The food and service was spot on and the service was excellent. Very friendly and helpful staff. Only reason I did not give this a five star is because of the toilet facilities. They need to be improved.
Valerie B — Google review
Wonderful food, well done to the chef, perfect views, and all of the staff were so polite and friendly. I highly recommend the smoked salmon sandwich and chocolate brownie pudding! This place is also dog friendly.
Claire B — Google review
Although a very beautiful place, we were disappointed with the food and service. We had to place our drinks order at the bar each time as the waitress who looked after us was never there. When she came to take a drinks order, we had done it a while ago at the bar. I ordered a steak that was average. Would not recommend it. Very slow service. As I said, it's a stunning place, and I am sure you would enjoy a drink or two.
Martyna W — Google review
I want to go back when it’s not summer to see if I have a better experience but my day there was honestly unbearable due to the amount wasps and hornets landing on us which was slightly terrifying (mainly when the hornets appeared) this isn’t really the pubs fault but something people need to be prepared for if they’re dining outside. There aren’t any humane kind of wasps and hornet traps, we ended up leaving after less than an hour of being there and not finishing our meal because of it. The staff are amazing, service was great, the place is absolutely beautiful. Vegetarian roast was pretty terrible (extremely dry) but my partners pork and beef roast was really nice. I’d happily go and eat inside and try the weekday menu though.
Sian G — Google review
We really enjoyed our leisurely lunch at the Woodbridge Inn today. Nestled right by the river, offering spectacular views. A good, varied menu, I highly recommend the steak, ale and potato pie. The servers were friendly and attentive. A lovely experience.

Beautiful country pub with a gorgeous setting. Just annoyed that we have only just found it having lived in the area for 3 years. Staff were friendly, very helpful and the food was brilliant. We had been for a walk down the Severn and popped in for some lite bites.....we will be back....most likely again and again.

The Haughmond is a charming inn located in the quaint village of Upton Magna, offering cozy accommodations and modern amenities. The establishment features a restaurant housed in a historic 16th-century merchants house, adding to its allure. The menu boasts delectable dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, with an ever-changing selection to savor. Additionally, the inn provides a unique take on traditional afternoon tea, showcasing gourmet sandwiches and innovative desserts crafted from fresh local produce.
What a find! I met a friend here for lunch, it's half way for us, both travelling an hour and a half. I ate here about 7 years ago with my mum and remembered how dog friendly they were. I took my well behaved lab x Springer and they were brilliant with her, offering water and giving her treats with my permission. The staff were outstanding and the food delicious. We had the 3 course 'set menu' at £24.95. I had mushroom terrine and my friend had goat's cheese tart. I then had the fish pie and she had steak and fries. We both had the sticky toffee pudding followed by coffee. This is such a lovely place, nice and cosy but bright room with decent parking. We will definitely go back, loved it. Beautiful building.
H D — Google review
We were met with a warm welcome at The Haughmond when visiting for an evening meal. The people serving us were lovely with our young children. We enjoyed drinks in the garden before going inside to enjoy delicious and beautifully cooked food. I had a the cod which was very enjoyable. The children meals were well received, we all especially enjoyed the chunky chips. Welcoming, pleasant surroundings, great food and beautiful location. We look forward to visiting again.
Danielle S — Google review
Popped into The Haughmond on a whim for Sunday lunch and was so glad I did! The beef roast was tender and melted in the mouth, with seasonal veg cooked to perfection and generous portions. Lovely countryside setting, great value, and Amanda and the team were friendly and attentive. Easily one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve had near Shrewsbury – highly recommend!
A F — Google review
The food is a touch expensive, but it's definitely reflected in the quality of the food. Amanda, Mike and especially Poppy are all incredible hosts at The Haughmond and I cannot recommend booking a room high enough! The views are incredible, it's peaceful and in the countryside, and it's a tranquil area to go for a peaceful walk. Also, it's dog friendly which always gets 5* from me. P.S. - get the cheeseboard.
Tony L — Google review
Fabulous country hotel with wonderful views. Accommodation was comfortable and quiet and everything worked. The breakfasts were indeed outstanding and the John Dory I had was perfect. My partner’s pie he did say the meat was however was tough and dry. During our 2 night stay the only reason I couldn’t give 5 stars was mainly due to the constant sewage smell up the stairs and the corridors to the accommodation and secondly the mojito cocktail, this drink should not have been served if Ingredients were not in stock such as sparkling water, lime, and mint. I just got tap water and lime cordial for £7.50.
Josephine D — Google review
Stopped here for a quick drink and bowl of chips half way on a walk we were doing. Sat in the garden and enjoyed a lovely beer with our quick snack. Barman was lovely and attentive. Service to garden table.
Graeme T — Google review
We were at The Haughmond for Sunday Lunch. Superb find as its in a great location, very pretty surroundings and good roads to get there. We enjoyed the Asparagus foam starter and Venison starter followed by the John Dory fish fillets and I had the Sunday Roast Beef. All delicious but especially my Roast Beef dinner, the vegetables were the best I've tasted in a long time and the roast beef was cooked just on rare, which was perfect. We had the (deconstructed) cheesecake for desert, which was beautiful. We shall certainly be back. The only slight issue I had was that the female Cyclists who were using the cafe next door (part of The Haughmond) were clip clopping their way through the restaurant in their lycra to use the toilet. As a cyclist myself and someone who likes to enjoy a meal out on a Sunday, a separate toilet needs to be provided on the cafe side, then it would feel like fine dining.

The Church Inn is a historic pub and guesthouse located in the heart of Ludlow, Shropshire. Housed in a Grade II listed building dating back to the 14th century, it exudes warmth and character. The inn offers a selection of hand-picked local ales and serves pub fare in its bar/restaurant. The modern guestrooms are spacious, some even featuring balconies.
Had lunch at the Church Inn and it was wonderful. This is a really well-run gaff with top-notch food and a great array of choice. Staff were friendly, efficient and rather lovely too. It has pub classics - pies, fish & chips, etc. - but one or two seasonal and French-inspired dishes. Like the pea ravioli I had with asparagus, broad beans, butter... you get the idea! The one criticism is a minor one. The Rum Baba needed more of a rum kick! That aside, no complaints from any of us! 5* nosh. Happy to recommend The Church especially given its central location. Will return soon!

Sunday Lunch. Nut roast was excellent. A really lovely plate of food. Very happy campers with a pint of Ludlow brewery ale. Sat upstairs with nice view of church and houses. A really well run place. Clean and the gents are well worth a visit just to see the urinals and instructions.

I didn't stay here. I came to the restaurant and had dinner on a Sunday night. The food and wines were excellent. I really enjoyed my starter of Chicken liver parfait, and I was bowled over by my mains of roast pork, with five wonderfully prepared vegetables crowned by a huge yorkshire pudding. I have to say that it has been a long time since I have savoured British food this good. Most impressed. Recommend highly!
Dominic D — Google review
We normally love to come here to sit in the church beer garden under old trees. Lovely venue. We've never used it as hotel and cannot comment on the rooms. We have also not tried the food. It's great for drinks usually but this was a busy weekend with performances at the castle and a lot of visitors. Most places were prepared for it and so they should be. They knew what to expect. Unfortunately bar staff were slow and not very efficient. A lot of time wasted to queue for drinks so we only stayed for one. The queue was so long and annoyingly, people kept dropping in from the street, ignoring the queue and ordered directly at the bar. Staff didn't react or direct them to the queue which was really annoying so we had to say something. Poorly managed. Otherwise nice place.
Cloud — Google review
Why it wasn't 5 for location was because of being next to big church with bells going off from 7am in morning. But if you're a heavy sleeper no problem. Great rooms, so tidy! Would definitely stay there again if I went back to Ludlow.
Phill P — Google review
Didn’t stay here, just had an evening meal, which was…..genuinely, one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The starters were amazing and the mains were amazing. Could not fault this food at all. It was well presented and tasted phenomenal. There were 3 of us in total. We had starters of: slow roasted belly draught bites, cheese soufflé and fish cakes in a Thai Red curry sauce. They were all so tasty, words cannot describe how good the cheese soufflé was For mains, we had: Steak and ale pie, chicken cordon bleu Caesar salad and chips and pumpkin with squash tortellini, all of which were to die for
Mike F — Google review
Staff managed to find the two of us a table to eat - we hadn’t booked ahead - thank you. It was mussels night and I thoroughly enjoyed them - my wife had the pea ravioli and it was lovely. Beer was nice and the staff made time to interact with us during our meal and drinks ordering. A great find and we were glad we walked through their doors!!!!

What a very nice place to visit, staff all very good and helpful. Lack of parking here at this Inn, but there is a carpark about 400 yards away where you can leave your car, it is very safe also. All in all a very good experience with our stay in The Church.

Time to have a drink after a walk and our first stop is awesome because of serving great selection of ales and superb atmosphere. It was full packed so use outdoor seating which wasn't bad. Had great time and laugh there. Service was good.

Spent a very pleasant afternoon here Saturday 5th October. The staff were great and the beer ( I opted for Salopian Oracle) was excellent and reasonably priced. Great selection of beers to choose from too but the Oracle was so good I stuck with Didn't try any food so can't comment on that. Definitely recommended if you're looking for somewhere to enjoy a nice relaxing pint.

Two real including Oracle - in good fettle - on offer. Lively rock music being played, not too oppressive. Plenty of seating in busy area near English bridgecand on St. Julian Friars. Handy for Masala Indian restaurant if you need to slake your thirst after a curry.

Oil is a vibrant bar that offers a mix of craft beer, cocktails, and live music in an exciting atmosphere. It's the perfect spot for late-night fun with a buzzing vibe. The staff is known for creating an amazing experience, ensuring guests have a great time. As the sister bar to Dough & Oil, it complements the sourdough pizza joint by providing creative cocktails and hosting live music events.
If I were to design my perfect bar hangout this would be it - interior, music and beer choice at Oil is everything I look for in a bar. Plus being able to get the amazing pizza from across the road, what’s not to like.

They do the most gorgeous cocktails 🍹 and you can order pizza to here from there partners Dough & oil, pizzas look amazing, but yet to try them.. Staff very reasonable and accommodating. Playing lovely music in background, my favourite is downstairs the decor is lush, they have music nights most weekends also.

By far, the best bar around. With your dads CD collection of classic rock-n-roll and blues; a well-oiled staff always serving with an obvious enjoyment in their job; and the best sourdough pizza that is to die for. There will always be a place for the Oil basement in my heart, and come-what-may, I will always make a beeline for this bar when I come to town. A fresh selection of beers, a classic list of cocktails (as well as their own creative solutions), and a nice collection of soft drinks. Oil is a place for every generation, from the freshest faces discovering Jimmy Hendrix to the old timer re-inventing retirement! Every person should add Oil to their list of stops when parading the town, taking in the sites! It's also a great stop off for those needing a break from walking up the hill!

Great venue, music, DJs, Bands, bring your own instruments and join in, Art sessions - Oil has it all….plus amazing food from the restaurant across the road, which can be brought over to the bar! …..plus brilliant and entertaining bar staff, friendly door staff, you’ll spend your time looking at all of the amazing decor! I did!! Great age range of people, relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend. Something different going on every day - all genres of music.

Nestled in the heart of Telford, The Wrekin Giant is a charming pub that embodies community spirit and warmth. This inviting establishment offers a delightful selection of hearty meals and an extensive drinks menu, making it perfect for family gatherings or casual outings with friends. With its picturesque outdoor seating overlooking serene waters, guests can unwind while enjoying stunning views of Telford Town Park.
We recently visited The Wrekin Giant as a group of seven and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The restaurant's menu had an impressive variety of dishes, catering to all tastes and preferences in our group. Each dish we ordered was cooked to perfection, flavorful, and beautifully presented. From hearty classics to lighter options, everything was spot on. The drinks menu also impressed us with a great selection of beverages, including some creative cocktails and refreshing soft drink options. It was clear that a lot of thought had gone into ensuring there was something for everyone. What stood out the most was the exceptional service. The staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and attentive throughout our visit. Despite being a larger group, they ensured all our needs were met without any delays or mix-ups. They were quick to respond to any requests and made sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. The atmosphere at The Wrekin Giant was warm and welcoming, making it the perfect setting for our gathering. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If you're looking for a family-friendly venue with great food, drinks, and outstanding service, we highly recommend The Wrekin Giant. We'll definitely be back soon!

The worst hungry horse I've ever been in, it's dusty, dirty and in need of some TLC , carpets are thread bare, tables need to be refurbished , lamp shades etc dusty, knifes and forks dirty and there for all to grab , hopefully people wash there hands, table was also dirty and sticky. music really loud and more like a late night pub with large groups out on the party bus using bad language necking shots etc rather then the useal famiely feel. Food luke warm but we where so hungry and waited about 25mins we just ate it pretty basic bacon dry , not a lot of cheese and sauce wasn't it's best, no-one asked if everything ok and only 2 staff visable at bar but busy doing drink orders. Kids machines also dirty couldn't get photo as other children about. Out the front was a little run down too post sign door flapping about and glass windows and door filthy. Won't return here

It was ok but food wasn't lackluster I'd say stick to the basics really, don't order anything exotic . It could have been better and the tables need get some work done on them. There's a bit of room for improvement

Lovely welcome on arrival, clean and tidy. A fantastic menu with a great array of choices of food, with plenty of excellent deals. A very good drinks menu, with lovely choices of cocktails and much more. The food was superb, excellent value for money. Kelly was so helpful with the food order, incredibly polite and friendly ;-) Excellent Service. Child friendly, great children’s menu. There are booths with Children’s TV’s programmes on. Happy families! Wheelchair friendly. Situated next to Telford Park, with fantastic facilities for families. We visited again, the service was excellent and attentive. Food was delicious, The Ultimate Big Candymania. My two tackled this, spoons at the ready and failed! This pudding would feed three little ones or two adults easily. Heaps of ice cream and cream and sprinkles…delicious! The Strawberry Dream Chocolate Frappe was thoroughly enjoyed by my daughter. It is a hot chocolate with ice, very tasty and fantastic price at £2.99. Once again a lovely and delightful evening. Thank you ;-)

We visited The Wrekin Giant for the first time this evening, and fairly enjoyed our visit. It was fairly nice, clean and tidy, but the only couple of downsides there were, was a couple of the forks weren't as clean as they should be. Also, even though there was a good variety of food on the menu, I only ended up with a bowl of chips, as there wasn't really any food of my interest on the menu. If only Banger's and Mash for both Adults and kids was on the menu, I would've gone for that. I had a lovely Apple and Berry Crumble for dessert, which was really nice. Don't get me wrong, the Dessert Menu was lovely! It's just ashame the Main Menu itself didn't have more interesting food listed on it. Apart from those couple of downsides, we had a good evening. The staff seemed Friendly, helpful and a little rushed off their feet due to busy times, but they did everything they could well. I'm sure we'll be returning again sometime in the future. Overall, I give The Wrekin Giant a 4/5 Star Rating. 😀

Food and service were excellent. Busy lunchtime but James and the team did a great job. Polite and helpful. Very efficient. The pub is clean and tidy and very well run. Good choice of meals and drinks. A very inclusive place with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
Brian D — Google review
It's okay. The food is alright, you won't catch any illnesses which is a positive? But it was barely warm. Somehow it was burnt and cold at the same time. It was a Beyond Burger with a small handful of chips. But when the Mrs and I ordered food, she got a main and I only wanted a dessert, there was no option for it to all be brought out at once. The server came past once whilst we both had our mouths full of food / drinks, not giving a chance to ask her to bring out the dessert at the same time as the main, and that was the only time we saw her for the night. She was polite though, so that's something? When the drinks had arrived, the glasses were coated in lipstick still, blatantly obvious, and not just a small speck that could've been missed. The barstaff still thought it was okay to serve drinks in this instead of just wiping it quickly. The 330ml Coke Zero is £3.40 which is a bit steep for a can of coke. Probably won't be returning as the place had slowly begun to go downhill and hasn't had any signs of improvement in the last few months, but what else would you expect from Telford?

Nestled in the heart of Shropshire, House of the Rising Sun offers a unique dining experience with its modern Australian cuisine infused with Indonesian and South East Asian influences. The restaurant's industrial decor and subtle lighting create a serene ambiance, perfect for couples and friends to enjoy an array of cultural foods.
Came with a couple of colleagues while on a work trip, one who is vegan. Had a fantastic meal which we couldn't fault. The beef was so tender, the greens with lemon were really tasty and the vegan churros were a wonderful treat that he was really impressed with.

Not just a place to eat on Shrewsbury, but a destination on it's own right. Absolutely gorgeous food, super attentive service and fabulous atmosphere. Not the cheapest, but well worth it. And don't be fooled by them describing it as tapas. Portions are super generous. We defiyover ordered!

We were on the lookout for a spontaneous dinner and drinks spot and were pleased to stumble upon The House of the Rising Sun. From the moment we arrived, the customer service stood out—they made sure we were accommodated even though we didn’t have a reservation. Since it was a last-minute night out, we ended up seated at the high chairs, which were a bit uncomfortable, especially if you’re dressed up (like in a tight shirt dress). The interior design is impressive—stylish and atmospheric, though a little too dim for dining. It feels more like a place that’s tailored for drinks and conversation. One standout feature is the bar with its aquarium-style backsplash—absolutely eye-catching. We tried the Teriyaki Beef and Chicken Katsu. The katsu was excellent—crispy, flavorful, and definitely best enjoyed with rice. The beef, on the other hand, was slightly chewy and not as tender as expected. For drinks, we had the classic Mojito and their signature cocktail, Land of Smiles. The latter was a highlight—refreshing with a unique spicy kick that really elevated the experience. Overall, The House of the Rising Sun is a lovely spot for a date night, especially if you’re after a cozy ambiance and creative cocktails. We’d definitely go back—hopefully with a reservation next time!

My partner and I visited this evening for dinner after not being too sure where to eat as vegetarians. From the moment we entered, we felt very welcome and we're seated straight away. All of the hosts who saw us throughout our were incredibly attentive and accommodating, and this really stood out until the moment we left the door. We are from the "Earth" section of the menu as vegetarians, and we thoroughly enjoyed every dish. Very hard to pick a favourite, but if I had to it would be the Tofu Katsu. Portion sizes are generous as tapas goes, and we left feeling comfortably full and nourished. Overall, we were both extremely impressed with all aspects of our visit and will be returning when we are next in the area. Thank you guys!

My first visit to this beautiful place. I was not disappointed .... such a lovely atmosphere with lovely staff. The menu had lots of lovely dishes that would tempt everyone. I went for the fish pie! It was amazing . Gorgeous fluffy mash on top of the most gorgeous fish in a creamy white sauce. I have had many fish pies over the years but this was the best ever. Portions were big but I still managed to have desssert. The lemon pie, it was to die for. I love citrus and this didn't let me down, it came with a vanilla custard. Gorgeous. I look forward to returning again soon , thank you for the most gorgeous meal Huntsman 😊

Our lunch for 10 today was superb. The young lady who is maitre’d or manager not sure which is so welcoming and attended to our every need. Excellent menu - good hot food or cold. Staff are so smiling, kind and efficient. Because I am disabled - I have to use many such facilities. This one is the best in Shropshire. I thoroughly recommend The Huntsman as a good, comfortable, beautifully furnished establishment but above all excellent food and caring staff. Maureen Bond Church Stretton

Popped in after a trek up the Wrekin on a cold & very wet day! Was hoping the real fire would be lit to warm & dry but unfortunately it wasn't as it appears not everyone is as crazy as us getting soaked through and needing it!! However still a lovely pub with a cosy & friendly feel about it. Not stayed in the accommodation so can't comment on the rooms and not actually eaten here either YET - the food we saw coming out looked amazing so will have to factor time in for that too next time!

I’ve just had the most delicious Sunday roast. I’m vegetarian so opted for their nutless roast - full of wonderful seeds and other yummy deliciousness. I ate late for a Sunday (7.30pm) but the joint was jumping and no wonder the food is well cooked, plentiful and fresh - even that late I enjoyed fresh Yorkshire puddings, vegetables and roast potatoes that tasted fresh out of the oven. I’m only here for a few days but hope to get back here to eat again. The food is wonderful if my nut less roast with all the trimmings was anything to go by. I washed it all down with a large glass of their Transylvanian Pinot Noir - perfect! Service was impeccable, friendly and efficient. Highly recommend

My friend and I met up for lunch here. I'd booked it some weeks ago as it looked lovely on their website. The food was delicious, and the service was second to none. We had a table overlooking the river, which was beautiful. We didn't feel rushed in any way, so all in all, it was a totally relaxing, enjoyable visit. Highly recommended.

On holiday and looked for restaurants in the area, and very happy with the choice. Absolutely beautiful food. Highly recommend the calamari starter, it was perfectly cooked, light and crispy, well seasoned, and a generous helping. The chicken and mushroom pasta in white wine sauce was particularly delicious, both rich yet still light. And the king prawn linguine was divine. Restaurant is warm and welcoming. Staff were all lovely, and very accommodating to a couple of additional needs. Definitely worth booking a table as it gets very busy in the evening. Saying that the service was still excellent, and orders were taken and food came out quickly. Cocktail menu is great and no issue with my request for an ingredient change. Gets a little noisier as the night goes on but its a popular riverfront spot on a Friday night so thats expected. Slightly more expensive than the average weeknight meal out, but worth every penny for the food and atmosphere in my opinion. Would be a great date-night. Planning on going back before we go home.

Absolutely amazing. After another local business failed us on our wedding day, The owner saved my day ❤️ We originally came for drinks before our planned meal elsewhere, and the service was amazing. We shared champagne with our close friends then left. After being told to be quiet in the other establishment (high spirits and laughter) we quickly decided we shall not be putting our money there. We returned to the riverbank, staff called the owner to let them know we had returned and if we could be accommodated, which we was and our magical day was resumed. There was nothing that was to greater for the owner and his full staff, from the minute we entered we felt welcomed. We now attend regular, along side the sister restaurants, Food at all is perfect, Staff incredible and the service is just faultless. Mrs & Mr Catterson ❤️

Up there with one of the best pub Sunday roasts we have eaten . We stayed in Ludlow last night, stayed at the Downton lodge where the food was exceptional . I’m only saying this as I wanted to share how good this pub food was . We had the mixed meat roast each and have to say it was delicious. Also my partner is very fond of bloody Mary’s , apparently one of the best she’s had also . The manager/ owner Jane was absolutely lovely , very professional and attentive to every need , the staff were also attentive , Thankyou Sue for helping us . We had a lovely chilled afternoon and definately will return to Ludlow and the queens .

I didn’t stay the night here but I ate dinner in the pub. I don’t normally leave reviews but it was so nice that I had to comment. I only had one course, the pan fried sea bass with the sides but it all had such a nice flavour and was so carefully done that I really had to write this. I didn’t try any other dishes as I was quite full by the end but I’d fully recommend that.

Great location, overhanging the river in Ludlow, a fantastic old historic town. Food was wonderful, and our whole party of 8 had both dinner and breakfast here on a directors away trip. Owners very much involved and have done a great job of rebuilding this lovely old hotel, restaurant and pub.

We had a lovely stay at The Charlton Arms Hotel after a day at the races. The food was absolutely superb, definitely 5 stars without a doubt. We were a large party and shared a good selection of the starter and main menu. It was all fantastic. The highlight for me was a chicken and duck wellington which I'm still day dreaming about. Breakfast was also excellent and our whole party agreed it's somewhere we will try and meet at again. Hopefully next year. There was a slight misunderstanding with our bill, which was quickly sorted by the friendly staff, but that is the reasoning behind 4 not 5 stars on service. It's a lovely old building with lots of nice nooks and crannies to explore. My room was relatively small for a twin bed room, but the decor was nice and everything worked well. This place is definitely worth a visit, the spot on the river in what is a lovely market town is beautiful. The food (& this is my second visit almost ten years apart) is fantastic.

Loved this place , sitting in the restaurant next to the river within 10 mins we saw a dipper , kingfisher. Water rail , mergansers , the food was fantastic we had duck wellington, honey glazed carrots with delphinoir potatoes and a bottle red wine , the food was amazing seriously good , loads of parking spaces breakfast was really good , my only gripe would be check in 3pm checking out 10.30am it needs to be 11 min but i will definitely be going back 100% stopped here 11/10/2025

Great location for a meal or just a drink, overlooking the river Teme. Good size car park at the rear. Nice walks along the river heading North towards the castle. When we visited recently the service was not brilliant and coffees also below par. I have been before however and service was fine, so perhaps just inconsistent.

SEE MY RESPONE TO MANAGEMENT'S REPLY BELOW: My wife, daughter and I visited the Charlton Arms yesterday for the first (and definitely the last) time. The pub has a lovely setting, but the way we were treated by the staff was nothing short of disgraceful. We ordered drinks and asked politely if there were any tables for dinner. One member of staff said she’d check, only for another to cut across and insist they were “fully booked.” Even though when walking through almost the entire pub and restaurant it was clear it was empty bar two or three tables. Fair enough though, we thought, if they tell us they are booked we can take our drinks to enjoy the view instead. From then on it was a shambles. We tried the terrace (full), then a downstairs room by the river, only to be barked at across the room that we couldn’t sit there because it was “the restaurant.” We then moved again to a large table in the pub area, which another staff member had told us was fine. Ten minutes later, we overheard them taking a phone booking for 8pm that very evening. So clearly, they weren’t “fully booked” as we’d been told but nobody had bothered to offer us that option. At this point, my wife went to complain to the bar staff while I dealt with the constant interruptions at our table. One staff member came to tell me we had to move as the table was “reserved.” I explained we would finish our drinks first. Barely 30 seconds later, another arrived to repeat the same demand, harassing us to move yet again. I asked to speak to the manager. Of course, none was available. By now we had been pushed from one table to the next, lied to about availability, and treated with rudeness throughout. Only when I demanded a refund for our drinks did they begrudgingly hand back the money and only then muttered a half-hearted “sorry.” The two bar staff stood there staring at us, making it abundantly clear from their expressions that they saw us as “difficult,” when in fact it was their behaviour that was completely unacceptable. We left feeling we weren’t wanted there at all. Was it because we’re not locals? Because my wife and daughter are Brazilian? I can’t say for certain but the dismissive, almost hostile treatment certainly suggested something more than simple incompetence!! For a pub trading on its reputation and setting, the Charlton Arms should be absolutely ashamed of the way its staff behaved. Rude, dishonest, and unwelcoming. I strongly urge the manager to take responsibility, reply to this review, and overhaul their staff’s attitude - because right now, this place is a textbook example of how to drive customers away! EDIT – IN RESPONSE TO MANAGEMENT'S REPLY: Management claim they were “fully booked,” yet we clearly overheard and they confirmed they took a phone booking for 8pm that same evening. We arrived at 6.30pm hoping to eat and should have been told that a later table was available, giving us the option to wait with drinks. Instead, we were dismissed outright. The suggestion of “confusion” is misleading. There were no reserved signs, no apology, and no clear guidance the staff simply barked at us and repeatedly harassed us to move, despite seeing us settle at the table. Their approach was rude and entirely avoidable. To be clear the refund was not offered; I had to demand it twice before it was grudgingly agreed to. To present this as goodwill is untrue and insulting, especially given the humiliating way we were treated in front of our young daughter. Finally, my wife was treated with noticeably less courtesy than I was when she questioned the booking contradiction. Management’s blanket denial of discrimination does not reflect our experience at all. That kind of unequal treatment is not something you can brush aside by simply “rejecting” the suggestion. The bottom line: the experience was appalling, the response from Management here is very disingenuous, and I stand by every word of my original review!

The Lion + Pheasant Hotel is a charming 16th-century coaching inn located near the English Bridge. This independent, family-run hotel seamlessly combines historic charm with modern interiors. The hotel features an acclaimed restaurant that offers the best dining in Shropshire according to the Good Food Guide. With its innovative interior, chic bar, and 19 stylish rooms featuring original features and wrought iron beds, this hotel provides a unique blend of historic quality and contemporary design.
Great location on the edge of the town by the river and comes with parking. Our 3rd time at the Lion+Pheasant and this time we were in a room at the front which was a little more noisy with traffic but ok as good quality double glazing in the room. Rooms are excellent with lovely bedding and tea and coffee. The staff were excellent from the reception, to bar to breakfast… which was as good as we remembered it from before. It can get busy at 9.00 am on a Sunday so best to get there a few mins before. We will be back for sure

Attended for a birthday meal recently. The starters were really nice and the bread&butter exceptional, but sadly the mains and desserts let the experience down badly. We ordered 2 steaks and one was fine (although the salad was plain rocket - rather than a medley of leaves and pickles - so entirely not as advertised), but one was very chewy and we had to leave most of it (it was medium-rare).Very poor quality control, and it took 1.5 hours to arrive so we were in too deep to return/swap. The restaurant did remove from the bill given the leftovers, but still disappointing for a birthday meal. Given the wait times were so long, we asked for desert to please hurry (2 hours now), and unfortunately the rhubarb trifle was almost all sponge, and the sticky toffee pudding was cold (tepid at absolute best). On the bright side, the brownie was nice. At this point we asked for the bill and left. I’ve been twice for meals previously which were better, but sadly this experience means I won’t risk it again, particularly given the cost. For premium money you expect a premium experience, and while the service was good the wait times and poor food let it down. Maybe take a chance and it might be good, but I’ve had much greater experiences in Shrewsbury for less money. Real shame as we’d be very excited for my dads 60th here.

A last minute break in Shrewsbury on a sunny weekend. The hotel is located just off the English Bridge in Wyle Cop. Rooms are well appointed in the quirky building, the staff are superb, there's a great breakfast, and there's a great section of whisky in the bar. We didn't try the restaurant. The hotel is modern but retains its market town feel. Upstairs rooms off winding corridors could be a challenge if you have mobility issues. There's no lift. If you drive there, get there early as parking can be a bit tight, and watch out for the narrow entrance passage. We'd definitely go back there.

Really great. Stayed for 3 nights and it was fab. The room was great (one star off as the shower was slightly broken and could have been fixed with a new hose in 5 mins) We ate there and the food was super. Staff all fantastic, they were really brilliant. Would stay again.

I hosted a dinner in the upstairs restaurant and also stayed overnight. The staff here are brilliant and make it a great experience. They were responsive and communicative while I was making the plans and friendly and helpful when we arrived. The food is excellent and the rooms are clean and comfortable.

When we arrived to check in we were greeted by Fay she vary good at job and a credit to the Hotel. This hotel has private limited parking. The room that we stayed in was a superior room 14 this room has a industrial extractor unit from the kitchen right outside of the window. The room has some of it originall features, like exposed beams. The walls were painted white whith grey doors and skirtings It would have been nice to see some photos of bygone days of Shrewsbury and a touch of colour on the walls, and textiles. The food was very good in the restaurants and the bar. The restaurant and bar manager Patrick is at the top of his game and is skilled in dealing with the guests. You can see that this hotels management team are good and make the experience of staying or visiting their a good one.

Ludlow Brewing Co is a must-visit destination for beer enthusiasts. Housed in a sensitively restored Victorian railway shed, the brewery offers a comfortable and informal bar area where visitors can enjoy a full range of quality beers, including the toffee-ish Ludlow Best. The brewery tap and visitor center are open to daytime visitors throughout the week, providing an opportunity to witness the gleaming brewing equipment that stretches up into the old ceilings.
Had a lovely time at Ludlow Brewery yesterday! We did a tour of the premises and was educated about the roots and history of the business by Peter! Peter was excellent, very knowledgeable, personable and an all round good guy! A real asset for your business… It was that good, we called back today for some Silent Knight! ☺️ Steve&Tracey 🍺

Ludow Brewing Company is well worth a visit if you're in the area. The bar is well designed and they offer tours also which I didn't personally experience so can't rate that, but the bar is very busy and offers quality beer as you might expect. It doesn't have the best views if you sit outside as the view is basically an ALDI car park but inside the bar is well designed and a good space.

The best of local breweries - inside an old railway goods shed, with the brewery itself on display alongside plentiful seating. Excellent beers to drink there and to take away.

My colleagues and I visited the brewery for lunch and a tour and had a fantastic time. The food was great quality, the beer was excellent (you have to try "Silent Night", it's a standout), and the tour was genuinely fascinating. Bob was an excellent guide and storyteller, and we were all completely engaged throughout. We’ll definitely be back!

Fantastic tap room with cask and keg beer available. Plenty of seating, dog and kid friendly. The beer of course was well kept and I like the fact its a slice of brewing history. Def worth a visit if you are in the area,

We did the tour. Highly recommend. Margaret was fantastic. Very knowledgable and engaging. Loved hearing the history of why food and drink is so important to Ludlow. Great to see behind the scenes and try a selection of their drinks. Stairway is the standout!

Fab talk & tour…. Took well over an hour. Small brewery but great story. Great talk and history of the brewery and all the intricacies of brewing ales, beers, lagers and stout. I thought I knew the difference but not really !! Lovely beer sampling… Shame i was driving. Bill was a great tour guide and resident expert. Informative, informal, funny and genuine. Great guy - a real asset to the company. Would definitely recommend for an afternoon - but get a taxi and enjoy a few beers in the bar area / balcony & outside.

My daughter Zoe and I had a great Brewery tour yesterday while visiting the Oktoberfest event. Amana was a great guide with good knowledge of the beers and the brewing process and the samples were excellent. We left with an increased appreciation of the brewery, beers and care taken in the brewing process. Afterwards we enjoyed a few beers in the bar with friends and family

Went in for Sunday lunch on father's day, not too busy, lovely atmosphere! Food was served quite quickly, my son had the beer battered fish and thoroughly enjoyed it! And I had the roast beef which was tender and delicious, all veg was cooked perfectly and tasted divine, each guest was pleased with their meal, will definitely be returning.. 1 fish and chips, 3 roast dinners, 2 Mediterranean tart meals with 2 tarts to takeaway, and 8 drinks £137 which was reasonably priced as well

Called in for a late lunch with Mr P after exploring Ludlow. The female member of staff was very friendly. The menu was varied and the prices what you would expect for the area. I had fish pie and it was very, very good. Lots of filling, nice sauce and great mash topping. Mr P had fish and chips. We both enjoyed our food. Definitely somewhere we would return, maybe on a Saturday night when they have live music. Beautiful old building too.

Stopped in with my partner for dinner on the first night of a getaway. After a long journey, the George and Dragon was the perfect place for a quiet meal. The pub is cosy, inviting, and warm, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We were lucky enough to stop in on pasta and pizza night, and had a great lasagne and tortellini as well as a decadent syrup sponge for dessert. The pizza selection was surprisingly good for a pub and there's definitely something for everyone! As a real ale lover, the beer selection is great as well and they even managed to find some pear cider for my partner. Would highly recommend for dinner and we will definitely be back when we come back to the area.

The theater's contemporary structure contrasts with the town's traditional charm. Nearby, visitors can explore the historic market town of Shrewsbury and enjoy a diverse culinary scene with options ranging from gastro pubs to fine dining restaurants.
This is a great theatre to work in, with a huge amount of space back stage. It was perfect for our show. The staff are all very friendly and helped me several times when I got lost in the Labyrinthine backstage area. Audiences here were very sweet and several of the young people joined in at the end with some very enthusiastic and entertaining dancing. Thank you Shrewsbury! You were wonderful!

Absolutely furious. Went to see the band livewire... They were absolutely great. Loved them... But the venue seemed to exceed capacity. No room to move... Drunken idiots forcing their way past to the bars that were supposed to be closed. I ended up leaving because of people constantly pushing us around to get past. Absolute joke. I can honestly say I will NEVER return!

Nice clean theatre (main and studio type spaces) and relatively modern. Decent seats and well organised. Same as all theatres in that there are big queues for toilet (ladies) and bar/snacks. Didn't help having 2 shows one night with same start and interval times.

A lovely auditorium set on three floors with comfy seating and plenty of leg room. A well equipped bar if you fancy a tipple and a great view from the balcony. Superb from start to finish. I ordered the tasting menu - every dish was excellent and just as memorable as the last. The Japanese milk bread is beautifully soft and delicious. The the little extra bites that arrive between some courses are a lovely bonus too. Excellent warm service. Would absolutely come again and wouldn't be surprised if this place was awarded a star very soon.

Our taxi dropped us on the riverside but the entrance is on the other side just a ls a pointer for others. This place has come on since we visited the earlier much smaller venue. Excellent restaurant area which has a quality feel and they are certainly holding their own on the food. We came with our 2 daughters on a Saturday for the tasting menu. We had a great table looking over the river. Service by the young staff was efficient and friendly. Our daughters loved the Japanese milk bread as everyone seems to mention.. all the courses were lovely with favorites being the Mushrooms and also the sole. Slightly disappointed on the duck but that is being very critical.. overall very happy with the experience.

We had a fabulous meal, we had the taster menu and I can’t fault anything. The fish was my partners favourite and mine was the pasta but it really was all delicious. The service team were also brilliant just the right amount of attention. We would definitely recommend and return if in the area.

Amazing from start to finish. We used a voucher for the tasting menu that we’d been given as a wedding gift having never been before and were blown away. The service is great, not too overbearing but informative and attentive. The food was 10 out of 10, every single course! The bread…out of this world. So good we had to take a loaf home! Highly recommend. We can’t wait to come back again. Thanks all!

We had an amazing 5 course tasting menu at the bar for New Years Eve. Every course was excellent, and the festive cocktails we had were lovely. They also catered well for our dietary requirements.

Not many places in Shrewsbury offer a taster menu, but @thewalrusrestaurant has built a reputation for its culinary creativity in recent years. With a chic bar area for cocktails and an intimate restaurant space, diners are treated to a cozy atmosphere, with some tables overlooking the river. ⭐️4.5/5 Recommended👍🏻 Price 💸💸/💸 The meal began with delightful amuse-bouches designed to tantalize our taste buds. The light crispy pastry encasing smoky, soft beef tartare was a standout! Bold, flavourful, and utterly captivating. It certainly set the tone for the feast ahead. Next came the pumpkin bread with a pillowy-soft center beneath a perfectly baked crust served with miso-infused butter. **Starters** Porcetta: The first starter featured thinly sliced herbed Porcetta, capers, and a hint of citrus, combining to create a refreshing and harmonious dish. This dish divided opinion with one of us raving about the flavour combinations and the other left unsure. Mushroom: The second starter showcased the earthy taste delightful texture of mushrooms and potato in a rich, indulgent sauce. The exquisite morels added depth and elegance to this satisfying course. **Mains** Sole: The first main course was a medley of bold flavors and textures. Grilled lemon sole, English asparagus cooked to perfection paired beautifully with brown shrimp and the crunch of toasted hazelnuts. The hollandaise sauce provided richness, but a lemony curd like accompaniment felt unnecessary and the whole dish slightly over-salted for our taste. Dry Aged Duck: The second main brought duck served two ways complemented by tamarillo. Tamarillo, something you don’t often see and reminiscent of sweet peach plus butternut squash, parsnip, beetroot, and carrot slivers. While the duck had the desired layer of fat this could have benefited from more rendering, the flavours however were intriguing and enjoyable. **Desserts** Rhubarb & Custard: For those less inclined towards sweet deserts, this offered a perfect balance: vibrant orange cream, fresh tart rhubarb pieces, rhubarb sorbet, and meringue tiles. Carrot & white chocolate: Delicious!

The fine dining experience done well. 5* service and hospitality. Delicious cocktails at the bar before we were led to our table. Very chilled atmosphere and decor, spotless. We had the 3 course meal; each dish a splendid explosion of well balanced delicate flavours. A reasonable price and I would say worth every penny. A luxurious treat!

We booked here after our small intimate wedding with our friends, having our table not ready on arrival - On time, that was our first issue. Our wine flight didn’t come out with the course - and we waited for our ordered drinks also, another issue. When my dear friend asked for wine - she was rudely told we need to “be quiet and quickly” We had been laughing and high spirits - I had just got a final cancer clear and it was our wedding day. We hadn’t raised voices, swore or anything to affect the customers or staff. We left, we went around to another local business over looking …the riverside 🙂 and nothing was an issue - The owner gave us champagne and treated us how we should of been. Avoid.

The market's main opening days are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Visitors can explore an array of items from flowers to organic wines and second-hand books to hand-embroidered cards.
Shrewsbury Market Hall is an absolute gem and hands down my favorite place in Shrewsbury. From the moment I stepped inside, I understood why it’s an award-winning market — it truly has a charm that made me fall in love with the town itself. The variety here is fantastic. Whether you’re after delicious local food, unique souvenirs, beautiful books, stylish clothes, handcrafted paintings, or artisanal home decor, there’s something to catch your eye at every turn. It’s a treasure trove for anyone who enjoys discovering one-of-a-kind finds and supporting small businesses. The market is clean, well-organized, and bathed in beautiful natural light, which makes wandering through it all the more enjoyable. Every corner feels vibrant and full of life, with friendly vendors and a welcoming atmosphere that invites you to linger. If you’re visiting Shrewsbury, make sure this is at the top of your list. It’s more than just a market — it’s the heart of the town. Definitely worth checking out!

Cute!!! The stalls, people, vibe - perfect. Go if you're in the area! Special mention to the lady who runs the cookware stall - bought some cute bits and asked her about food. Straight away she emphatically told me to try the Thai place. I went straight there and it was amazing and so cheap!!! The bookstore on the top floor is quaint and a really lovely woman runs it. She showed me an amazing 2nd edition copy of Lord of the rings. Overall, charming, friendly, good food, great stalls. 👍

After reading rave reviews we decided to take a trip to Shrewsbury Market Hall. Honestly, I was severely underwhelmed. I expected more stalls and a wider range of products, if I am honest. This market is comparable to most local markets, selling fruit and veg, meat, bakery items etc on its lower ground. Upstairs you find more of the stalls I was hoping to find, but in such small numbers that it really wasn’t worth the trip. We bought a few Pokemon cards from a friendly card vendor, and then left. If you’re in the area, do pop by….but don’t drive an hour and a half out of your way for this market like I did.

This community-focused establishment boasts an impressive selection of ever-changing ales, with a strong emphasis on microbrewery real ales and craft beers. Guests can also enjoy small-batch spirits and locally sourced food, making it a delightful spot for both locals and visitors alike.
I can see why this is award winning. One of the finest real ale and craft beer pubs I've set foot in. Really great discussion with local about home Brewing....he sounded almost like a professional. But note opening times....some days at 3pm. So I had time to burn for two hours! Great place.

Well we went there cus we had to go thro oswestry on way back home and we knew it had been voted camra pub of the year 2024. Beer choice was great and pub was great but toilets were small dirty and mouldy, toilet seat broken. Ive been to lots of much better pubs TBH so bit surprised this pub got the best pub award ..

Happened upon this great spot when we were searching the local pubs for craft beer. Wee weren't disappointed. Plus there was live music on. Dog friendly too.

A CAMRA award winning pub on numerous occasions over the years, not to mention many other local recommendations. This small community pub has been flying the "real & craft" ale flags consistantly for years. It hosts the best selection of beers for miles around, with great staff & service to boot. We've been visiting this pub for the last 10+ years and its consistancy is second to none. If you're ever up this way it is certainly worth a visit & highly recommended. Duncan & Grace the owners are lovely people & great hosts. Highly recommended. Note: Food is no longer available, but the eating of food inside the pub, but purchased outside is usually acceptable. (There is an Indian takeaway next door) Updated: 9/6/24

National CAMRA Pub of the Year. Cracking boozer. Would have given it 5 stars but it lost a mark due to a staff hygiene issue - two members of staff petted dogs and did not wash their hands afterwards, even though the dogs licked their hands! Something management may like to address perhaps? Otherwise great🙂

We had booked a table for our recently bereaved Nan for her 84th birthday. Nothing was any trouble for the very lovely staff. A lovely lady shown us to our booth where we decorated the table ourselves (very simple) and brought us some water for the table before asking if we would like anything to drink before the party arrived. They were aware that it was a special day and went above and beyond to make it great for our Nan. We ordered our food which was exemplary and had a few laughs afterwards. We lit a small cake for Nan and the lovely lady there asked if we look like a photo of us all, that was a fab photo! As myself and my sister paid the bill they bought out a dessert with “happy birthday” wrote on the plate which we were really impressed with…Nan loved it! All in all it was a good choice of restaurant to visit, my Nan loved her time there and nothing was too much trouble for the staff! We had an excellent time and I can’t recommend this place enough. Fantastic surroundings, atmosphere, lovely kind staff and a beautiful beef roast! I’ll be back 100%.

As always great place to dine. In our opinion best Sunday roast locally. Nanny had a child’s portion bless her and so much meat our furry boy had a treat a slice of beef when we got home! I had belly pork - delicious & Nick mixed meats - no room for desserts Think that says it all! Thank you see you again soon x

Had s stunning Sunday lunch. The service was excellent. The portion sizes were very generous and the food tasted delicious. The soup and prawn starters were both excellent. The 3 roast Sunday lunch tasted wonderful with a special shout out to the generous meat portions, amazing gravy and cauliflour cheese. The sticky toffee pudding was my wifes favourite with a large portion that we shared due to being so full. A special shout out to the management who were really friendly and professional. This is now our new local for Sunday lunch.

Our usual line dancing venue was double booked so we danced in the courtyard. Very pretty outside with tables, lights and a lovely vibe. Inside looked good too! Worth a second look.

Personally I would expect a £15 burger to come wirh fries, salad and coleslaw. The fries were extra and it was served just on a board no salad. At £19 it was more expensive than the sea bass, which I wish I had gone for. Food and service were good, great ambience.

Attended a wedding party here over the weekend of the 6th september 25, had a blast, the food was amazing, the beer was good, the service was good considering it was fairly busy all night. All in all it was a 5 from us. I have only given the room a four star, because we didn't stay there.

Popped in today 5th Sept for a spot of lunch. Autumn menu had launched today. Lite bites for lunch and evening meals. Opted for Ham, egg & chips (chunky) cooked to perfection. And Steak ciabatta with fries again cooked to perfection. Rude not to have the deal (£17 for meal & pudding) of Pudding option. So we had Chocolate Brownie & lemon Tart. Omg they were naughty. £50 2 mains, 2 puddings, 2 pints, tonic water & lemonade. Value I’d say. No photos food didn’t last long enough to take them.

A wonderful find, we had become lost and stumbled upon this stunning setting. A fantastic Distillery alongside a beautiful place to have food/drink. A fabulous Menu offering a range of different and delicious foods. We chose pizzas all round, the best pizza I’ve had in a very long time, seafood selection of prawns, tuna and smoke salmon…yum! The Drinks sell themselves, pale ales to a stunning range of Gins, of which my 19 year old son thoroughly enjoyed! A lovely, friendly and warm welcome by Joe (hope name correct) he definitely suited the vibe with his Bandana and my Son choosing Shark Beach Ale… It really is a beautiful setting with a great range of indoor/outdoor seating. The Owner was also welcoming and very friendly. Definitely visit again!

The staff were particularly helpful and friendly. The venue has a pleasant yet rustic quality to the wooden structure. The menu caters for British and European style cuisine plus the obligatory burgers. There is a range of beers on sale all made on site, plus a cider, several gins and a malt whisky matured in a red wine cask. My battered Hake and three times fried chips were some of the best I’ve ever tasted and I would recommend the dish to all who enjoy good ol’ fish and chips. The Margarita pizza had a lovely crisp yet easy to eat base with a good range of roasted vegetable toppings.

What looks like a detached house is in reality a brewery and moke house. Great pints, good BBQ and great vibes. But the cherry on top is the train that takes you directly from the pub to town.

Food and drink are really nice! And portions are very Generous. We have loved it here for a while now but we went today and found the prices have been increased to what I now believe is unreasonable. It cost me £55 for 2x burgers and 2x drinks. Which I think is too much 🤷‍♂️. It's now in the price of somewhere you might go on a special occasion rather than a quick bite with the family. It was the quietest I have ever seen it, perhaps for that reason. Another note, (/ rant) might be petty but they put an automatic 8% tip on the meal.... It's a burger and chips... You hardly did anything to earn more than the already too expensive cost you are charging!! Imagine any other industry where they automatically put a tip on!! Don't be like America!!! We are better than that!!

We recently enjoyed a visit as a family group of seven adults, and we enjoyed dining indoors. The young staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. The food was well presented and pleasant. After our meal, we decided to move outside to the spacious orchard, which had plenty of seating and a nice atmosphere. It was clear that this place is quite popular! Just a little note — I noticed that food prices have doubled over the last two years when I looked at some old menus in past reviews. I ordered the Ned Kelly, which was a double hamburger with fries and onion rings, priced at £21.95 (up from £10.95 two years ago). Overall, our group of seven spent around £200, which included one pudding and soft drinks for everyone. It was an enjoyable experience.

Popped in for a drink & chips while we waited for the train back to Oswestry Saturday afternoon & all the staff were lovely! I was asked if I needed a table inside (they were all reserved for dinner) and I replied yes and mentioned in passing that our son is autistic because he had interrupted our conversation and the lady (I didn't get her name unfortunately but she had a dark long bob) was so understanding and said nothing is too much trouble and put us on a table that was reserved as we were only staying for long enough for a drink and said to ask if we needed anything for him. We would've loved to have stayed for dinner, but we were visiting friends who had made other arrangements for us. We are planning a return trip at some time to include the Stonehouse Brewery for lunch or dinner as the food looked incredible! There is a small play area by the railway, but not enclosed so not safe to leave kids unattended and too far to take your food & drinks. Great place & we recommended it to our friends that live nearby! It was a highlight of our short trip.

Best Sunday dinner in Shrewsbury. Me and my partner have been coming to Cromwell's Tap House for years now and the food never disappoints, in particular, the Sunday roast is incredible - the beef is always cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend trying them out if you haven't before!

Good things first, great selection of beer, tables for dinning and a lovely garden with loads of seats outside. Beer was reasonably priced. My biggest gripe was I was queueing and it was my turn to be served, bar tender already saw me YET he jumped on to serve the next person who was not queued. Good thing a lady staff saw me and jumped in. Really hate it when that happens and yoy have waited to be served. Place was not even that packed. Just bad service, discriminated? Being the only asian who was in the pub, i don't know. Update: as a reply to what they claim; no, i have been to a lot of pubs as it is my hobby to do so when I go to a new place. It was so clear as the bar staff was taking the order that I was not "with" the person he was talking to, infact he has seen me behind that person the whole time he was ordering and not even conversing to anyone. The female staff also saw me the whole time snd yet when this other guy jumped the queue, he just served him first as I kept on giving the male bar staff the look. And as I said, the female staff realized that, despite her being busy also, as I have been standing there for a few minutes and jumped in to serve me. In other pubs, bar staff are quite attentive and most of times ask who else hasn't been served yet. (And yes, racial issue does exist, as a non white who enters pubs, I get stared down at times.)

Had a fabulous lunch here today. Food was excellent and so was the selection of real ales. We will definitely be back to Shrewsbury and when we do, will look to staying here. The owner was friendly and informative, clearly passionate about sourcing local wherever possible.

As I live locally, I've never had reason to stay overnight. So, can't rate the accommodation, but the food and service are top notch. 👌🏻 A small rear two tier beer garden is an added bonus, especially on a sunny afternoon 😀

The room we were allocated (No 3) is not on their listing page. Does the 4-poster bedroom actually exist. The bathroom is so small you can't dry yourself in it. You can hear everything in the next room from the bathroom. There is no chair, table etc in the room so you are confined to the bed. Road noise ensures you are woken very early. Staff great, food good and good choice of real ale. The room is not worth the cost if you are staying more than one night. Response to Cromwells. The public are allowed to post honest reviews of their experience. This is one way in which businesses can improve their service. What I highlighted was that the room we stayed in (no 3) is not honestly featured in your Expedia listing under Double room. What we saw when we booked were rooms of a reasonable size with reasonably sized bathrooms. Do you offer a smaller room than No 3? If not, then please appreciate our disappointment at your offering. I did highlight to your staff that we have never stayed in a smaller room.

We were here on a CAMRA pub visit with a group. My family of 4 people decided to have some food as well here. OMG, what a great decision to do that. I had the chicken tenders burger, served with skin on fries and salad. My husband & father in law had steak burgers with skin on fries and salad too. My mother in law had falafel in a Pitta with the same sides. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and the service was excellent as well. We sat in the beer garden which was quite deceptive from the outside. Great atmosphere and friendly atmosphere too, will definitely go back.

The loveliest staff! The whole place strikes the perfect balance of feeling friendly and laidback. The food, wine, and cocktails were all outstanding, and the atmosphere of the place feels cosy and established, yet also modern. Can’t recommend enough!

Really cool place with plenty of wines to try. I had amazing desert wine there and really good cheese platter. Chutney were so nice and thick and sweet with cheese and wine is absolute gorgeous! Also can buy there a wine at retail price. Nice little cute place and gets busy super quickly!

Lovely little wine bar, very relaxed and pleasant. On the expensive side, but it was nice to have a good choice of wine. The only thing that disappointed me was the service charge on the bill. I was told the total at the front desk, and I duly paid by phone before being given the receipt, which had a discretionary tip line on it. I wasn't in the mood to cause a fuss but it just felt a bit sneaky to me.

Glou Glou is my favourite wine bar! The service is brilliant and always happy to talk me through what wines to try and the staff are so helpful. I saw the Oyster Night advertised and I was worried I’d missed the chance to book in as they’d already sent off the orders. A cool and unique looking bar with a relaxing ambience. We visited during lunch time so it was quiet. The staff were friendly. There was a good selection of food choices with vegetarian and vegan options. The prices are reasonable and everyone enjoyed there choices. However, the oreo milkshake was a disappointment and far too watery, even with staff trying to rectify it. We ended up replacing it with a sundae which was delicious. It's worth another visit to try the rest of the menu.

Only 3 stars, sorry. And it's only for staff, they were great even though only 4 of them during quite busy period and they were running around the place with no time off. We've been there on Sunday after lunch time. We've been told it's an hour waiting for food but we agreed to that as we've seen other portions and decided it looks very tasty. And also restaurant on its own looks great, very unique, done with great taste. Anyway, lady told us it's an hour waiting time for food. And my question is - why only 4 people on shift during such a busy time? It was sunny Sunday, day before bank holiday and half term. I think some more people should be on shift as by the time we were finishing food not many people left there as tbh who wants to wait for so long for food. Also, cleanliness should become more priority as floor was sticky, especially in toilets. Also I asked for baby changing unit and I was given keys to disabled toilet with no baby changing unit available? Anyway, food was very good, portions quite big as well. So well done to staff for handling such a situation today as I believe it was very tough day for them. And restaurant is fog friendly as well

Second maybe third time here.... Thursday night before Easter bank holiday. A strange bunch of customers gathered by the fire thing.... like star wars cantina bar. The 'DJ' couldn't finish playing a record for more than 50% of the record... or at the right speed. Drinks okay... but they don't keep Jack Daniels ? We were 2 of the 10 customers in there. Dismal

Absolutely amazing night out! Live music was incredible followed by a good DJ. Massive shout out to Duncan and Amy who work there. Duncan helped my friend and I feel safe and he really looked after us. Amy somehow remembered our drink order despite a hugely busy night and was so lovely despite all the silly questions. Thank you all and we will definitely return!

Review is purely for the nightclub. Security was comparable to an airport. Saw a woman refused entry without ID who was clearly in her 40's at least. They scanned my ID and the scan of it appeared on a big TV for everyone in the queue to see? Later they made us queue to go out into the smoking area, which was enclosed and not full. We couldn't take our drinks out there. Considering they are so concerned about our safety, you'd think they wouldn't want us to leave our drinks behind and open to potential spiking. Later on a girl was being sick in the toilets and security wouldn't let me go in there to pee before I went home "for my own safety". I've never been anywhere else so strict on security in my life and I'll unfortunately not be returning as a result. Telford nightlife is already almost non-existent and this is not helping. The DJs were great though. I'll go to the Shrewsbury shed to see them instead.

Very cool bar, great food and big selection of beers! Would love to revisit at night and see it busy, as we went during lunch and it was very quiet. Great music and ambience, bar staff very pleasant and friendly. Loved it!
Jonathan W — Google review
Annoyed as I got approached by a drunk man who was randomly accusing me of spiking people, which obviously I wasn’t, then when I was explaining to security what happened and to please search me - as I don’t want anyone to think that of me - they wouldn’t. I then proceeded to say to the person accusing me of it that I’m sorry that he’s got the wrong idea of me, then he threatened me and I somehow get kicked out for “agitating the situation” even though I was being calm and polite and a grown man was threatening to “smash my head in”

I love this place. Not many decent yet (semi) classy places around here but Liquor Lab scratches an itch for me. Special mention for Ethan, who heats the place up with a lil bit of spice. He did everything to make my friend and I feel safe in the establishment. Inside drinks and service were also great. I really like the Liquor Lab. Very modern inside with a friendly and trendy vibe. When you are inside it doesn't feel like you are in Telford but in the middle of the city like Birmingham or London. Pub
Nestled on Swan Hill, just a stone's throw from the main square, The Admiral Benbow is a charming free house that truly captures the essence of traditional pub culture. Known for its impressive selection of ales and ciders sourced from Shropshire and Herefordshire, patrons can enjoy up to six ales and seven ciders at any given time. This cozy establishment offers a warm atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of chain pubs, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a laid-back experience.
My first ever visit to this pub. Very busy on this Friday evening. Luckily the barman told Albrecht about a quieter rear room where we sat and enjoyed two pints and a pork pie. There is also a rear courtyard which was also busy. Had Three Tuns 5% Clerics Cure and a Salopian Oracle at 4%. Four real ales on sale. Good visit.

A terrific pub with a great range of real ales, ciders and Belgian bottled beers. We had a lovely evening sitting outside in their garden area. He said his beer was excellent - and my cider was delicious! We'll definitely come back next time we are in Shrewsbury.

Excellent range of real ales & ciders. A mix of age groups. Background music but not overwhelming. Pleasant outdoor area. Limited food menu.

Propper hidden jem, if the sun is out you need to be here in the beer garden. Good selection of ales, excellent pint of Three Tuns.

What a great pub, visited on Sunday afternoon. The knowledgeable bar staff were superb and they made time to discuss beer options ( there were plenty to choose from). It was just a quick visit as we were only in the town for a few days and there are loads of pubs to try. A lovely little beer garden, a great choice of Belgian beers and a good selection on the tap. This place is well worth a visit.

Really good ale house in Shrewsbury serving a wide range of real ale and ciders. Large sheltered outside seating . Quite a quirky set up. Nice pub. Highly recommended for a couple of pints 🍻
G T — Google review
Nice relaxed job with lots of books and crannies, separate rooms and outdoor yard. I had a great guest ale, and there were plenty of local options on the taps. Shame that dogs aren’t allowed inside, though. Fine for when I visited as the weather was nice but looks like I won’t be visiting in rain/winter.

One of my favourite spots in Shrewsbury. The beer garden is a hidden gem, particularly during the summer months. A fantastic range of ales is available for the real ale fan.

Cocktail bar
Bar
In the historic market town of Shrewsbury, United Kingdom, you'll find a diverse array of dining options, from traditional British and Italian restaurants to Indian eateries and trendy bars like Blind Tiger. This atmospheric cocktail bar is housed in a charming 17th-century building and exudes a 1920s bootlegger vibe with its vintage blues and gospel music. The menu features original cocktails inspired by the era, offering a modern twist on classic libations.
Had an awesome time! Cocktails and beers were tasty, and we got there just in time for "tappy hour" for our first round. The staff was cool, and the place had a great vibe with fun board and card games around. Definitely recommend for a date or drinks with friends
Jordan T — Google review
Great selection of cocktails, well made and with good measures! Fantastic staff who are very attentive and deliver speedy table service and popcorn to keep you thirsty. Music, lighting and atmosphere were all spot on. Recommended!
Dom — Google review
Was out for drink with some long time friends last night , the music was questionable and the service was good but the drink garnish fell off as my glass was set down and it had to be remade , it wasn’t busy and this was a Saturday night. only stayed for one drink as £12 per drink is extortionate for a lack luster drink with a garnish that ruined the drink. The bar snacks listed on the menu weren’t even available even tho it stated that they were available come July. So sad this place has gone so downhill since its opening , not worth my time anymore.
Jackson B — Google review
Fabulous fabulous fabulous. The venue is fantastic despite covid amendments, the service was great since for once we've spoken to people that know what they are talking about, the cocktails were fab, definitely recommended the godfather mistress. We'll soon be back.

Me and my partner came for the first time one a weekday evening after dinner. It was a lovely set up and the board games were scattered across tables. The drinks menu was so long there is something for everyone and we wanted to try them all. They are great quality hence the pricing. The theme is consistent and builds a great atmosphere. We spent a good couple of hours chatting and playing games. Only criticism is that it was a bit too dark for some of the games.

Shout out to the brunette bartender who looked like she was running it by herself, 10/10. Also made the BEST margs everrrrr (licking that salt). Luke, whose first shift it was, was the loveliest waiter in the world and couldn’t do enough. And to the other waitress (sorry didn’t get your name!) who studied law in Manchester, amazing service, couldn’t do enough. LOVE xxxxx

The Coracle Micropub is a must-visit spot for craft beer enthusiasts in the UK. It offers a diverse selection of beers and ales, including IPAs, pale ales, stouts, and sour beers. As Telford's first real ale micro pub, it features an ever-changing variety of cask and keg ales from top makers. The cozy atmosphere and knowledgeable staff make it an ideal place to sample different brews.
A great pub for the beer drinking enthusiast! Something different from the chain pubs in Ironbridge. Always a great selection of different ales and lagers and a buzzing atmosphere. An absolute don’t miss if you fancy a quality beverage in Ironbridge or even anywhere near Telford, for that matter!!

Decent selection of cask and keg small brewery ales. Conveniently in centre of Ironbridge, close to the bridge. It is quite small, but it is a micropub

Cracking micro pub with a great selection of beers! Only a strong imp stout missing! This would be my local if I lived here!

Fantastic place to try different ales. The locals are helpful with beer choices if you are not sure what to try. The beer flight is a brilliant way to try 3 different beers. They are also able to put a beer you like into a can whilst you wait, that's right, they can a beer while waiting. What a fantastic idea. We will definitely be going back to try some more beer. A highly recommended Micropub.

Live music venue
Event venue
Albert & Co Frankville is a place inspired by the adventures of a man named Albert, who traveled the world in search of the perfect cocktail recipe. The result is an extensive cocktail menu and modern British classics. Located opposite Theatre Severn, it offers great food and service in a relaxed setting. While they faced some challenges with their menu and service in the past, they have now regained their identity and improved their service.
Update: For a little while these guys lost their way, the menu was chopping and changing and it was clear they weren't really sure what they wanted to do. There was one or two staff that really let the side down and definitely caused groups to leave due to seemingly inexplicable slowness. I'm pleased to say the service is now better (maybe still not really what you would call efficient) but luckily they seem to have found their identity again! The food choices have pivoted to mexican, which they do well and for very thrifty prices. There are some unique touches, like muscovado and lime glaze, that put their own stamp on the food. They don't seem to particularly advertise themselves as mexican which seems a shame. I'm sure more folks would pop over the bridge for something a bit different if they knew Definitely back on the radar Old review below Surprisingly fabulous place! The name put me off a bit as I suspected they might be connected to Albert Shed, just across town. If they are then it is a huge step in right direction as this experience is a million times better We have been twice, a Friday tea time followed by a Saturday afternoon and they were excellent both times On our first visit we went with the cheeseboard, which was very generously sized and packed with quality ingredients. We also added some houmous from the veggie board, which gave us additional bread. The extra bread was useful because of the sheer quantity of cheese! This wasn't nibbles, this was a satisfying meal that left us contentedly stuffed On our second trip we tried the sandwiches and they were damn good! The bread had a slight golden crispness to it as if it had met some butter in a hot pan, delicious. The fillings were generous and interesting. They came with a side of chips, well seasoned and crisp and a side salad where someone had made a real effort to make it worth eating. Honestly you won't get a better lunchtime sandwich for £8 Beer choice is respectable, wines very reasonable and the cocktails are a real star. This is a venue that really knows it's cocktails, some inspired signature drinks and a solid array of classics. And I don't mean classics like some lesser venues do, I mean proper classics. It could be the only place in town that can make you a Sazerac and if you have never tried one before, try it here first. If you like the idea of absinthe done properly you could even go for Death in the Afternoon. Hemingway would be proud I'm looking forward to going back and working through some more cocktails! Edit: we have been back a few times but recently they have gained a new chef and a much enlarged menu. It was a bit overdue as the previous menu seemed to keep shrinking but the new one has some very tasty dishes. It also doesn't break the bank, if you fancy a casual thrifty meal and a few beers, you can't go far wrong

A great cafe for a Sunday cuppa and piece of cake after a walk round the park. Or, have a cocktail, awesome milkshakes, and many more. The Pour House was a great surprise with great staff and service, an ambiance perfect for Sunday afternoons and music that blended in to the environment perfectly. My Gingerbread Latte had great flavour and the 'Gin & Tonic' botanical flavour cake was sensational. Great for yourself, bring your loved ones. I'm told in the evening it becomes a different place, live music and a great way to start and end any night out.
Nick T — Google review
I really liked the vegan options on their menu They had run out of their normal meat substitute (harissa oatmeal something) but adapted it with Jackfruit which was appreciated. I'd definitely go back to try it again with the oat stuff, but also enjoyed the jackfruit. Also I don't normally eat/like quacamole but theirs was really tasty. Really nicely presented and prepared. Very friendly staff

Love the revamp from Pour House days. Works better as a bar. The best service anywhere right now, chilled live music evenings, fab afternoon milkshakes and cocktails to die for. My local and I’m glad of it (pups welcome too!)
Liz C — Google review
Waited 40 minutes for drinks as the only customers in the bar, 3 milkshakes a draught pint and a diet coke. We were then told the soda pumps were broke - 35 minutes after we ordered it. Ordered some fried chicken, pictures are worth more than words so is this an £8 portion. They also then told us they can't refund us but will knock 20% off the drinks, after continuing to complain we got a refund and went elsewhere. Absolutely shocking, luckily we had a laugh about what a joke this place is.

It's known for its lively and laid-back atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for an evening drink. The bar also features up to four changing cask ales sourced from breweries across the country.
Start from the location just next to train station and in the heart of this beautiful town. The second thing which make this place highlighted is amazing selection of craft beers from IPA to stout & sour. Third is awesome atmosphere which I really like. Good vibes and friendly approachable people in the bar. Specially I like the wall full of colour beer pump clips. Service was good and the prices were very pocket friendly. Hope after all these points I recommend it. Worth to visit

Always passed by this place when walking around and every night that I wanted to drop by it's packed. So went in earlier and enjoyed it. The beer was as expected, thry had different choices from ipa, stout, pale ale and etc and it was really good beer. Priced a bit high than usual but it was really goodbeer. Good ambiance and vibe but a bit cramped and can get crowded.

What a find! Slap bang in the middle of this lovely town, this bar has all your favourite craft beers and more. Super knowledgeable and friendly staff who gave advice and tasters to help me choose the best ipa for my appetite! Nice friendly atmosphere with a mixed crowd, some young, some a bit older like me. I felt relaxed and happy here. Definitely one to revisit when I next come to Shrewsbury! Thank you Tap & Can, you're awesome.

Spotted this micro bar close to the station when we arrived. Came back after 5pm opening with Albrecht. The bar is at the end of a long rectangular room. The four handpumps on our visit were from a micro brewery in Lower Peover ( honest..a real small village, we have s lovely walk starting here.) So Weekend Project brewery..I had the 3.4% Dinner Party...ok but for F sake, unfined cloudy soup is not nice, despite being a CAMRA 2024 Good Beer Guide pub. Clear the beer please.

Superb bar with a great cosmopolitan feel. Friendly knowledgeable staff enjoy sharing their experience and information in a down to earth unpretentious way. Whether it is their regular upmarket clientele or you've just walked straight in from the adjacent train station you are guaranteed a warm welcome. The perfect bar to finish a day in town where you can drink your last pint then buy your 🚂 beers for the journey home. The Paradise Valley NEIPA was quality, the cans to drink in or take away with a 15% discount and plastic glass provided are at the top end of craft ales. A bar to drink in where you hope your 🚂 will be delayed❗️

Building from outside super quirky and lovely gets the creative excitement going. Inside quickly greeted by a friendly face happy to help. Very fitting on brand! Service was sustained brilliance throughout. Afternoon tea was delivered by the chef and each part explained which was a stunning touch. She handmade all the cakes herself so spoke through them with passion which allows that creativity flow further. Afternoon tea was fantastic the coronation chicken was outrageous. The desserts just kept coming, feeling like you were eating yourself quite literally down a rabbit hole but so so worth it. Absolutely fantastic experience. Well done Chef and host, you made our day!!

Awful customer service, my friend and I sat at an empty bar with plenty of seats and were asked to move so two young guys who had gone out to smoke could have our seats! Despite other seats being available, our seats were not reserved! If you leave your seat or table which is not reserved then it's Available! We left and spent our money in loopy shew instead. Can highly recommend the customer service and the cocktails!

Some great cocktails on offer here, generally interesting quirky versions of classics. On the whole, maybe a touch sweet but certainly enjoyable Try and stick to the menu, if you ask for some off menu cocktails they aren't quite at the same level. Nice enough, you certainly wouldn't complain but you may not order another The building is fab, it was long overdue a serious makeover and the owners certainly did that. Tanners Wines is a charming, family-owned wine merchant that has been delighting customers since its establishment in 1842. Nestled at the base of Wyle Cop, their Cellars Shop boasts an enchanting array of over 1,200 wines and spirits within its unique Dickensian-style rooms. The knowledgeable staff are dedicated to providing exceptional service and personalized experiences, whether through tastings or special events.
I have used Tanners regularly in store and more recently online. Never disappointed at all. Getting married they were my obvious choice. They arranged a tasting with Erica which I attended with a couple of family members. Erica really listened to our likes and dislikes (and paid attention to the catering and food pairing needs) and encouraged me to make the day a bit more personal by reflecting this in the wine list. We were really given time and advice to help this being a great part of the day. They also provided the glasses for us (including the cleaning service). It’s especially nice when the excellent wine on offer is a topic of discussion at the wedding (and after) and I’m confident this is down to selecting Tanners as the wine supplier. Erica, if you read this- the Gewürztraminer went down exceptionally well! I will continue to buy wine from Tanners and won’t hesitate to use them for events in future too. I attended one of the Tanners Historic Guided Tours of their Cellars on Wednesday 17th September. Plenty of free parking onsite. Highly recommended.

We were a party of 8.we had gone for Sunday lunch. What a disappointment throughout. To start one of the beers was off, they offered to replace it but it never came, eventually our friend got up and asked for it. We were left sometime to decide what we wanted, we finally ordered, then 10 mins later were told one of the items was not on offer. Finally the main meal turned up the plates and meat was cold but the vegetables arrived in separate dishes and were extremely hot! When we mentioned the meat was cold the waitress said she would get some grave to warm it up!! Now to dessert one couple ordered the same pudding but when it came they were different. Some of us ordered the Lemon Curd Meringue, when it came there was no lemon curd, so they went in the kitchen and bought out small paper cups with some lemon curd in to address the problem ourselves. This was the most appalling meal we have ever had there was a £30 service charge added which were quick to get removed and because I complained they removed the cost of the puddings. Good gesture but quite frankly too late. None of our party will be going back or recommending. Such a shame, used to be a great place to eat.

Came today with family as we had a gift voucher to use. We have never visited before. The decor was nice and bright and a very clean dining area. The food was lovely, good portion size (the pavlova is huge!) and went down well. The staff were delightful and polite the whole visit. However, the space within the dining area was quite cramped. A couple of members had to shuffle their seats to let people past, and if you have a pram or walking device with you, you may struggle to get through. Also, service was very slow. We waited quite a while to get served and to recieve our food, even with the restaurant not being particularly busy. We had a great time with our party and enjoyed the food, but it wouldn't be first choice to revisit unfortunately.

Staff are beyond lovely, attentive and extremely efficient. Top-level ambiance. Excellent taps of beer, and great alcohol free choices (alcohol free cava, beer, mocktails - you name it and they probably have an option for you.) Everything is reasonably priced, from the food to the cocktails.

What a restaurant! We ate here on Monday and it was some of the best food we’ve had in a while. Usually we don’t get our hopes up for a new recommendation, but this place exceeded expectations through the roof! The service was incredible, Molly sorted us right out. Making sure we had our drinks when we wanted them, and the other lady on the bar made fabulous cocktails! Molly attended to us with care - favourite server ever! And to top it all off, Daniel who greeted us and took us to our table was a great help. The choices on Loopy Shrew’s menu were initiative and flavoursome, holding to their expectations. Extra credit for the different choices on a the plant based menu compared to the standard ‘five bean chilli’ option. We would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a sophisticated night out :)

This was the first coffee shop we’d spotted where we could sit outside with our dogs as we walked from the beautiful St Chads church (which is worth a quick visit) and the park (wow the Dingle garden !) Give the Loopy Shrew a visit - good service counts for everything.

Booked this as part of a river cruise and afternoon tea deal through Sabrina River Cruises. If I’m honest, the service wasn’t the best and rather slow. The bread was dry and quite hard consistent with the sandwiches being made some hours before and not being covered. Atmosphere was good but neither myself or my wife were impressed with the food and wouldn’t return

Pub
The Hole in the Wall is a dark wood pub in which classic fare, such as burgers and skillet dishes, is served alongside live music nights. The welcoming atmosphere by the staff and management ensures that visitors feel at home, and the food is excellent. The pub was busy when we visited but this did not stop them from providing outstanding service. We would highly recommend The Hole in the Wall to anyone looking for a great place to relax with friends or family.
We arrived & had a warm welcome from Morgan. I love a smile & great service. Food as always was excellent. When Morgan (I asked for her name) bought our food i asked for another drink & said shall i come to the bar? She said no I’ll bring the card machine. This is a great place & good value a must visit if you’re visiting Shrewsbury.

We recently visited The Hole in the Wall in central Shrewsbury and opted for two vegetarian breakfasts. The pub itself is in a fantastic location, right in the heart of town, and it really stands out with its charming interior and a hidden underground area that gives it a unique twist. The food is excellent value for money — portion sizes are generous, especially for the price. That said, the quality of the food could be improved slightly. Unfortunately, our order wasn’t quite right when it first arrived: one breakfast came out with bacon, and the other had a few items missing. This was actually the second time I’ve had an issue with an incorrect order here. However, I have to give credit where it’s due — the staff were quick to put things right and handled the situation with politeness and professionalism. Mistakes happen, and it’s good to see them addressed promptly. All in all, The Hole in the Wall is a quirky, well-situated spot with lots of character and decent value food. Just be sure to double-check your order when it arrives.

Food was ok beer was great. Nice chilled atmosphere apart from a scream 2 yo on another table but not the pubs fault.

I was brought here by my friends on Saturday as a surprise for my birthday. We had the bottomless brunch and it was amazing! The food was delicious and the drinks certainly kept flowing. Nothing was too much trouble for Morgan who was looking after us. An unexpected masterclass on how to make our own cocktail was a lovely addition too, along with the props and use of the Photo Booth. We will be back 😀

Found this place after trawling the interweb for a town centre pub/restaurant that offered quality and affordability. Was very surprised at the value the menu offered and the positive reviews on Google. So let me add mine to the list. From the outside I was under the impression that the premises would be compact and more than likely cramped on a Sunday afternoon. We had booked a table , so weren't worried about getting seating. When entering I was very surprised at the size of the place. It's like a Tardis!!! Plenty of room and seating. And that was even with the Vault having a private function on. So we couldn't go down the dungeon unfortunately. We were served by Poppy and Scott, and they were very polite and professional. Their service was everything we could ask for, and we did ask for more. More sauces, more plates, more drinks (This was not us being awkward by the way, I'll explain) The food was very nice. We ordered the Chicken wing sharing platter with three dips and a few sides. Here is my first very small gripe. The food was served nicely, but it would have been nice to have been asked if we would like an extra plate each to share our meal on. Most restaurants do. Hence we had to request them. Maybe something your staff could ask when serving platters? The wings were not the scrawny thin ones you need a microscope to find any meat on. No these were Meaty buggers indeed.... every one of them. Here comes my second gripe. The dips, in the tiny little tins and only half filled, was seriously not enough to use for all the wings and all that meat. (Maybe just a little more dip in the tins please chef?) So then we had to call for Poppy's assistance once more. More sauce to dip the final wings. One plate of wings and two of us... we left here absolutely stuffed and fulfilled indeed. Overall a very pleasant experience in a nice town centre establishment that has good quality food at very respectable prices. Commendable service from all the staff on the day, so a big thank you to Poppy, Scott and the Bearded gentleman that serve our food. We shall certainly be returning in the near future. Many thanks.

Had such a great time at the bottomless brunch! The food was delicious and came out quickly, and the service really made the experience. Emma was brilliant – so friendly and helpful throughout – and Jack was fantastic too, always making sure our drinks were topped up. Couldn’t have asked for better service. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Amazing place had a really good breakfast in the morning so they were so accommodating and looked after the dogs so well came back for dinner in the evening. Had a great burger with brisket on top, the rest of the menu looked amazing as well. Really want to try the meze kebab 😋

Popped in for some pre film food, decent selection choices with plenty of variety on the menu. Food and drinks came quickly and was very tasty. Dropped 1 star for the food as I would have liked a little more chicken on the main. Just to note, you cannot book in advance for parties of less than 6 people, this was not an issue for us at 6pm on a Thursday but by the time we left the restaurant was almost full.

Visited for a quick coffee and the service was excellent, polite and friendly staff. Decided to visit again for dinner, the children (18 & 13 years old) and I had a lovely time. Easy to order via app, helpful and polite staff, they’re always busy yet have time to ensure every table is settled and happy with everything. The food is delicious and drinks great, I must admit the coffee is delightful and I’m fussy! A calm and chilled atmosphere despite being busy. Wheelchair access. Ideal for children and families. Situation next to other restaurants and great shopping facilities. A fantastic park (Telford) a couple of minutes walk, which offers fabulous family friendly activities and much more… Overall - Excellent.

We had a wonderful family meal here and as a group of over 10+ people, I was very impressed with the food and how quickly it came. The tables were put together so we could be together which was nice. Our meals were very tasty and they were good sized portions. All the servers were very friendly, and tried to be as helpful as possible. The only disappointment was unfortunately a drink that was knocked over by a member of the team which subsequently ended in the contents swimming around in my handbag and my phone having some damage to the speaker. Accidents do happen, I understand we're only human. But it would have been nice for us to have received a voucher or similar for the inconvenience and damage to my items.

We went to try the Tuesday tapas special offer and were glad that we did. The food actually arrived quite quickly and all together which was good. We both had the 3 tapas dishes with a drink option, so in all had 6 dishes to share and 2 drinks which we felt was good value. The food was very good as was the service. Will definitely return.

I come here every so often and it's always a pleasant experience. Today really impressed me though. We dropped by at the height of lunch and it was completely packed. We needed a table for thee but only a table for two was available. She asked us if we'd be happy sitting at a small (2 person) table with an extra chair (flexibility). While she wasn't the only person to serve us and they were all good, throughout our meal she seemed to be like a Tazmanian devil. She was the one that greeted us, she collected our used crockery but she cleaned three of the tables near us, she was brushing & sweeping the next minute and then she was delivering food the next. I'm an Army (British) veteran and I notice things like this. If I'd had ready cash on me I would have tipped, she's what I would term as a "grafter". I don't know who she was (they don't wear name tags) but she wore a mustard coloured dress & had tattoos on both her ankles. I tend to notice people who work hard or provide a good service. In an environment of great staff and great service, she shone.

We booked Teresa and The Anchor to provide a buffet for 60 (yes, sixty 😄) for the Shrewsbury Masters Christmas Party. Wow! It was incredible. Everyone at the party complimented the wonderful spread, how dull this sort of buffet can be and how WONDERFUL this one was. Bang bang noodles, red spicy rice, potato salad, Greek salads, cheese boards, alongside amazing meats and satay sticks, quiche, sausage rolls, vegan options … the list goes on and on. Every mouthful enjoyable and so much of it too. Thank you all. Ps sorry for rubbish picture but forgot to take one when we first set everything out 😆

My wife and I popped in for lunch recently on the strength of the good reviews here. Our lunch was super yummy; the fish and chips were excellent and the burger particularly tasty. The side order of onion rings were spot on – super crunchy with a light batter and piping hot. And they serve Timothy Taylor Landlord bitter – so all is well with the world. Recommended.

One of the best fish and chips I've ever had and let me tell you, I am serious about fish and chips. It was cooked to perfection! The Shakespeare Inn is a historic establishment that has been around for more than two centuries. It is located in the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge, a world heritage site, and offers simple yet tastefully decorated rooms. Guests can enjoy complimentary WiFi and breakfast during their stay. The inn also features a restaurant area where visitors can indulge in delicious meals.
We spent 3 nights at the Shakespeare Inn at the start of March and had a lovely time. The Inn is ideally located to visit all of the local industrial history museums and the iron bridge. There are also lots of signposted walking trails that pass the Inn. The weather was kind to us, so we walked to the Iron Bridge along the riverbank. We had a couple of good meals at the Inn - the meals are huge and very tasty - I can recommend the Sizzling Sweet & Sour Chicken!

Very generous portions at good prices, considering the location. Staff were kind and the pub is dog friendly in certain areas. Plenty of parking and lots of walking routes nearby.

Waited more than 30 minutes for our food which was overcooked, overpriced and underflavoured . The burger was of poor quality and came on a tiny plate we had to get changed to a grown up size. The duck sizzler was mostly green peppers, not much meat, no garlic or authentic ingredients. We won't be returning, for the price charged the meals should be top quality and made from the very best local ingredients. Plenty of other places to eat locally with better value.

What a lovely place. Staff very attentive, friendly and courteous. Drinks were excellent and it was very relaxed. Covid restrictions in place when we visited and it was very safe and clean. Near perfect. When I saw whisky sour on the cocktail list as we passed by, I immediately booked a table for the next evening, a Friday. The interior is decorated so that you feel you are abroad on holiday. The limited food menu was fine. The pizza was good. The staff, especially the young lady who appeared to be in charge, were excellent. The band, The Indigo Machine, was very good. Only the whisky sour was a letdown. A great night!

The Kings Head is a typical English pub dating back to the Tudor era. It features beautiful timber framing, wonky walls, and traditional charm. Stunning black and white public house in the centre of Shrewsbury. A medieval wall inside depicts Christ’s last supper

Some amazing history here. The pub itself looks as old as it is but the real treasure is inside. Take a look at the medieval painting of the last supper on the wall just inside to the right. Some parts of the building used to be an old chapel and this painting probably dates from the 13th century.

The Kings Head is a traditional unspoilt pub with an excellent range of beers, lager and cider, including cask conditioned hand-pulled real ales. The cask ales were in excellent condition when we visited. An interesting feature of this pub is the medieval wall painting recently discovered in the bar. Great pub. Only complaint is one of the customers who was the opposite side of the pub to me wanted the whole universe to know he was a crafty cockney businessman :). Mildly annoying but not the fault of the pub lol. Well worth a visit, great beer, friendly staff. Still a 10 out of 10.

Nestled at the intersection of St Mary's Street and Church Street, Loggerheads is a charming pub steeped in history, believed to have origins dating back to the 1600s. This delightful establishment has been serving patrons since 1780 and boasts an inviting atmosphere with its original flagstone flooring and wood paneling. The interior features several cozy rooms, each with its own unique character, including The Gentlemen's Bar and Poet's Corner.
It is hard to find a pub with more awards than this. A regular CAMRA Good Beer Guide entry. Regular Cask Marque and on the National Heritage pub list. No wonder Albrecht wanted to visit. We have been here a few times in the last 35 years. Great real ale selection. Hand a pint of Bank's bitter...excellent. Four rooms surround the central bar. Five real ales plus a cider. Well worth the visit. A truely historic pub.

What a fabulous pub this is! Popped in today and left my dad here to enjoy the atmosphere and Wainwright's Gold! with our two well behaved dogs. Absolutely great little spot, proper pub pub and great friendly and funny staff! Recommended
Adam B — Google review
The staff are very pleasant and prices are okay, but the layout is strange. I understand this is an old property, but these tiny rooms caused me to feel quite uncomfortable. It means you've got to stand or sit very close to people you don't know. There is a room for men only... and as I walked past this room I looked in and got angry stares from male customers. I didn't say or do anything wrong, so why the angry glares I'll never know. The owner could do with having words with these males and simply tell them to just be polite. For some females it can feel very worrying being looked at in such a way. Some of the customers here are the dominating type. Reading in another review that a lady was told "This our room!" clarifies this pub is for males only. It's not a place I'll go to again.
Jess C — Google review
Cracking ale house in Shrewsbury as old as they come! About 4 rooms all with their own character. Loads of ales on. Lovely vibe and ambience as you’d expect from a pub as old as this. Supposedly haunted if that floats your boat!! Old school. Highly recommended 🍻 👻

Great pub and always a go-to when i visit family in town, but i do wish you would change the beers round a little given i assume you have the whole Marstons range to choose from. Perhaps 61 deep as a change. Good beer and good prices tho.

Originally houses, the Loggerheads pub, on beautiful Church Street, dates back to the early C18, and was my favourite of the Shrewsbury pubs I visited. The ground floor has its original room plan intact and consists of Gentleman's Bar (“Gents only”, so I wasn’t allowed in), Bar, Lounge and Snug. Good beer, and cheap, too.
