Restaurant
I dined at Monika Cafe & Resto, which offers both indoor and outdoor seating areas. The indoor space features a small stage for karaoke, while the outdoor patio is covered. Although the indoor area was bustling with customers enjoying the karaoke, we were seated in the quieter outdoor section due to its popularity. The service was prompt and friendly, and while only a couple of tables were occupied outside, the restaurant inside was packed and lively.
Delicous Soto Ayam. Nice place for everybody:they offer traditional food (very nice) as well as western food. A solo singer accompanies your meal with western oldies😉
Yanick K — Google review
From outside, the restaurant looks nice. Big but quite empty (maybe we were quite late, we thought). When we came in, we felt immediately, we weren’t welcome. The first attempt of the food we wanted from quite long list of foods aren’t available. Eventually, there are 2-4 foods are available. We ordered nasi capcay and buffalo steak. The steak was full of nerves that none of us couldn’t eat 😭 If you read this, better go somewhere else. Especially, if you come to town in a low season like us. We ended up order food from another place because we were still starving.
Anisa S — Google review
Went to this place for dinner one night. There are a couple of seating areas. One is indoors where there is a small stage set aside for karaoke. The other is a covered outdoor patio. The indoor area seemed to be quite full that night so we were seated in the outdoor patio. The service is friendly and quite quick. The outdoor area just had a couple of tables occupied whereas the indoor restaurant was full and everyone in there seemed to be having fun because the karaoke was in full swing. After reading some of the other reviews on here we ordered a few dishes. The portions were large however, the taste was not up to par. In fact, it was quite disappointing to say the least. The ambience and friendliness of the staff and owners was excellent ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Visited Monika cafe last night. Ordered Chicken Sate and Sweet sour Calamari. Meals were small in size. Sate was just chicken without any sauce. Chicken was overcooked and stuck to Skewers. Calamari was a bit tough. Service wasn't great. They seemed to be lacking staff I had to go into kitchen to place order. Place looked ok. Music was good. Overall food was bit pricey and not that tasty.
Kevin L — Google review
Staying at family's house in ToBarana. This place is quite famous for the family, so they take me here. What I like the most is the live music, in which you can request a song(s) and sing along. The food is not that good. They also serve beers and open until late at night. . When I was there, so many menus are not available, both the food and drink.
Tia — Google review
At 5pm we were obviously a bit early… Had much friendlier staff in Indonesia so far. The place however is nice and clean. Of course you shouldn’t have a Pizza here in the Highlands. We know. But after months of traveling we just ordered one which was a mistake. Pizza and beer are really expensive here. You’re probably better off with Indonesian style food and drink.
Ralf W — Google review
Monika is the perfect place if you are ok to wait 2h30 (!!!!) to get half of your order. My friend did not eat and we just left.
Jean T — Google review
I gave this a 5-star on my first visit. Food was great, environment was pleasant. I returned the next night, and WHAT A CHANGE! The food was bad (same dishes, but did not taste even remotely like night before). There was a musician in this tiny restaurant with an amplifier turned to full volume -- and he wasn't even singing! When he took a smoke on stage, the music continued. He was just playing a tape and mouthing the song. TERRIBLE. I will definitely never give this junk a third try. :(

Cafe Aras is a Halal restaurant that serves excellent food. The atmosphere is clean and friendly, and the staff are welcoming and accommodating. There's one across the street with the same name but different menu, but I believe they serve the same great food.
food was okay. the butterscotch pancake was good but the pork steak is kinda hard to bite & cut. but the taste was actually good. the orange juice was good too. i really love the ambience and interior of the place, specially the ornaments. and also many tourists eat here.
Rosy D — Google review
It's a cool and clean place. A nice artistic cafe with souvenirs shop. Coffee was good. Service was excellent. The bartender and cashier know exactly what i want for my coffee and gave me exactly what I want To be fair, i couldn't give them 5 star (yet) because I haven't tried their food. I won't hesitate to give them 5 stars whenever I've tried their food and satisfied by them.
Evi Y — Google review
The design of the cafe is gorgeous! A lovely mix of art and culture, the coffee was delicious !! The wait staff left a little to be desired and the food was average at best. Good sized portions though !
Angie R — Google review
A chilled arty farty vibe where you can escape from the chaos on the street to eat and drink well. Vegan options available - no dairy (cheese, milk), no meat, no fish, no eggs (plants only based dishes). Kind staff, quality tasty food, good sized portions at reasonable prices. Thank you Cafe Aras - you make two hungry vegans very happy x

Modern styled coffee and restaurant place. Clean and good facilities. Mainly tourist come here. But the food is good and service as well. Also they sell some souvenirs. Good option to eat at, if you want Indonesian food but if you don’t want plastic chairs at a food stand
Ohad G — Google review
The local guide brought me here for lunch and it was one of his best decision! The food served was very nice. As a matter of fact, the Nasi Goreng served here was probably the best I had during my entire trip to Indonesia. The decor is simple but very pleasing to the eye. The young waitress who took the order was was very friendly and cheerful. It didn't take long for the food to arrive and it was delicious and the portions quite large. Similarly with the dessert, the portion could feed a small family! Definitely a must visit restaurant if you are ever in the area ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Alexander F — Google review
The food was lovely and the service was very good too. There are plenty of options in the menu. At this restaurant you can find Indonesian food and special dishes of Toraja. We went twice for diner and the place was full of tourists, including families with children.

Rimiko Restaurant is a delightful culinary gem that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Guests rave about the delicious food and inviting atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for dinner. The menu features a variety of dishes, including flavorful pumpkin soup and fresh salads like avocado tomato salad and chicken with green beans in sesame dressing. Seafood lovers can enjoy the grilled ikan mas bakar, while vegetarians will appreciate the wonderful vegetable curry among other options.
Dinner with 2 kind of pa’piong, rice, 2 salads and 3 large beer - 320 000 only. Very fast WiFi. Good atmosphere. Order pa’piong 2 hours before the dinner. Chicken pa’piong is my choice - very tender and tasty.
Elena S — Google review
Delicious food, great vibe! We had a lovely dinner here — everything was super tasty. The pumpkin soup (small portion but flavorful), two fresh and healthy salads: the avocado tomato salad and the chicken with green beans and sesame dressing were all great. My partner had the ikan mas bakar (grilled fish) and loved it. But the highlight was definitely the chicken curry — the best we’ve had in all of Indonesia! Defenetly recomend this. The place has a cozy bamboo design with plenty of seating, the staff is friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. We really enjoyed it and will definitely be back!

Finally a Restaurant with a variety of vegetarian dishes! Wonderful vegetable curry. Also lots of meat/fish dishes (can‘t comment on that since I‘m vegetarian). Friendly owner! We came multiple times during our stay in Rantepao.

Very good food! Compliments to the woman who served us. She was also the one that made the food, so we had to wait a while, but it was worth it!

A dusty, old themed restaurant & cafe. Strict parking lot. Pricey menus, not that delicious. The one next door is way better basically. This one is more focused on traditional cuisines. Less local beverages variants.

Pia's Poppies Toraya is a modest hotel in Toraja that offers a charming eatery and basic accommodations with balcony access. It provides a convenient location near the main road for easy transportation options. The staff is friendly, and they have motorbikes available for rent at reasonable rates. In addition, local guides are available outside the hotel to offer Toraja tour services. The rooms are clean and reasonably priced at 150000 per night.
Stayed here last week with a group of friends. The rooms were clean and tidy. The meal portions were huge for Indonesians, it was very filling. We also had dinner at the hotel, it was such a nice meal. It should be noted that dinner should be ordered early as soon as the kitchen open (at 6 pm), as they’ll take time to prepare the means as it is made from scratch. Overall, a warm and pleasant experience for a family-run hotel.
Melania N — Google review
All good-we stayed here two nights- lovely staff, nice place. The only reason we didn’t extend and went to another hotel is a couple of things. The first being there is no a/c-yes it’s Rantepao so it’s not hot-but in the day it is in the room. Even a fan would have helped!!! Secondly, the room was a bit of a hike. And thirdly, a lot of loud dogs and family there. Other then that, all good.
Googlereviewser88 — Google review
Food: we ate 3 times at Pia‘s Poppies and the food was always fantastic! We can especially recommend the rendang, spaghetti bolognaise, pia‘s favorite soup. The food took a long time because they prepare everything freshly, so order before you get really hungry. Room: the room was very clean and spacious. There was no warm water in the shower.
Anna F — Google review
Really lovely hotel. The facilities were very clean and nice. There is a good communal area that you can get food and drinks at but also just relax and use the WiFi. The staff are super friendly with Dila (who helped us in the daytime) and Mina (who helped in the evening) both having very good English. Overall an amazing value hotel with very good food for a decent price.
Alice C — Google review
Great, kind and helpful staff. Spacious, rooms (some with a great view!). The kitchen is great and fast and location close to whatever you might need (including coffee roasting place). Great price/quality ratio. PS. There is no aircon but that is not a problem as the temperature regulates itself through the top windows. In the morning there is a serenade from local rooster, pigs, dogs and more so have your earplugs with you and it’s not an issue.
Marcin K — Google review
It's a nice place, spacious rooms. Service is excellent as well as the menu. Just the bathroom was not so great. The toilet fountain was broken and the shower didn't really get warm. Still, had a really good stay here!
Laurence K — Google review
One of the best experiences in indonesia. The rooms and facilities are super nice. The family is exceptionally friendly. They additionally sell really good coffee and make really good food. Definitely recommended!!
Pratik K — Google review
A beautiful little haven, with a restaurant area and gardens with plenty of tables and chairs to sit and relax. My room was a little on the tired side, but looks like they are working on giving all the rooms a little refresh, the stone features in the bathroom are a fun touch. The manager/owner is a good source of information and will find out answers for questions she doesn’t yet know. The younger staff aren’t quite so knowledgeable or efficient yet. I asked the receptionist about the tour shown on the website but it seems this doesn’t exist. There are guides that hang out by the entrance offering tours and treks of the local area. Only ate one meal at the restaurant which was one of the local dishes, and recommended to order at least 2 hours in advance it was delicious, but when ordering dinner keep in mind that the meals are cooked fresh to order and they tend to cook one or two meals at a time, so consider preordering or be prepared to wait a while.

One of our favarite restaurants in Rantepao. Clean, friendly and tasty food.

Nice to find a local food place that has vegetarian items on the menu. I ordered the Cap Chaisim and Toreng Goreng (fried eggplant) with Nasi Putih (white rice). It was tasty and a good price. Just be careful, the sambal that came with the Toreng Goreng had fish in it, but I easily ate around it. They also provided another chilli sauce which was vegetarian.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful dining experience in Rantepao, look no further than Rumah Makan Saruran. This cozy eatery specializes in both Chinese and Indonesian cuisine, offering a menu that includes options like pangsit noodles with or without pork. Known for its friendly service and generous portions, it's a favorite among locals who appreciate good food at affordable prices. Food are delicious. Big portion for us that can share with 2 or 3 people. The restaurant served pork.

It was dirty when we came. Food on the floor, under the table and some sweet drops on the table, which attracted big ants. Ants also ran on my legs. The restaurant advertises itself as Chinese, but mostly serves Indonesian food. The dishes I ordered were very good, though.

I believe this restaurant name Raja Babi when I visited years ago. The portion is humongous.

Restaurant
If you're looking to indulge in genuine local Torajan cuisine, then visiting this renowned eatery called Warung Pong Buri' should be on your agenda. It has gained significant popularity among the locals, known for always being packed with a long queue of Torajans who crave the nostalgic flavors of their hometown. Despite its somewhat lacking cleanliness due to its traditional nature, the food is still presented nicely and tastes exceptionally delicious.
THE PLACE is a MUST TRY. It's always busy and must be the best place to eat super delicious local food. Just check what others are eating and point on that. The seat you, bring you rice and the food you ordered, there is a fridge as well. Even ice cold beers are available and accompanying this delicious food perfectly. Our favourite were the pork dishes. Fatty Pork cubes with the special black powder spice cooked in a banana leaf in bamboo or the long stewed pork chunks in broth. Both a heaven for pork eaters. Also the special pork soup with peanuts is a very delicious treat. The duck was seasoned very well, but a bit boney. The innards are also super delicious. We came three times in a week and recommend to be there before noon, as it can get very crowded. For dinner there might be not much left over. Great value for the money as well. Warning: The Sambal might come straight out of hell, as it is made with the special Toraja Chili, which is the second spiciest chilis in the world. Try it carefully, but it's super delicious! Everything was perfect and the people are all very patient and helpful.
Marcel C — Google review
A must go place for Torajan cuisine but it’s just not to my liking. But just give it a try, who knows, it might be for you.
Mabel G — Google review
Recommended local cuisine. I ordered Pamarasan Pork which is generously sized and Brenebon Soup, rice, plus local brew Tuak/Ballo, all cost less than 50k. In general the food is too salty for my taste. I think best to eat single meat with rice, unless you eat for sharing.
Vic E — Google review
A good place to try local food. Try pamerassan: meat cooked in a thick, black sauce made from the dried seeds of the kluwek fruit.
Sjors H — Google review
A famous authentic place to eat Torajan's food. If you like to eat and try something new, you should taste their foods..!! But I don't recommend Dendeng Babi because the meat was so hard to cut and chew (and salty too).
Justicia J — Google review
Food is tasty and cheap. You can add rice for free. The service is good. The place is too small and hot. There's no parking lot.
Ria S — Google review
Best traditional Toraja Pork Cuisine !! They served this traditional kind of food, you should try Piong (Pork) - its a pork that cooked inside of a bamboo with spices and certain leaf. You can also try Pamerasan, a traditional soup (they served two kind of Pamerasan, fish and pork) I ordered Fish one (since I already got Pork Piong for meal)
Bram T — Google review
Best local taste in Rantepao. They have best local food called Pa'piong. It is pork chops cooked in a bamboo with banana leaves wrapping. They also have other foods like chicken, fish, and eel with local taste. If you are an adventurous foodie like me, you'll love it. Because they have a very unique taste even in a country with wide taste variety in Indonesia. Dont forget to try these foods with local chilli (tomato shaped chilli called 'katokon'). This kind of chilli also has a very unique taste. It might be too spicy for foreign tourist. They usually available in big or small scale restaurants in Toraja.

Kapitoo Glamping & Cafe is the sole occupied tent, situated in Toraja. Despite the rainy weather, the staff's friendliness was notable. The food, however, leaned towards excessive saltiness. Nevertheless, this glamping destination offers a unique experience with picturesque views of rice terraces. Guests describe it as akin to being enveloped in clouds due to the remarkably fresh and pure air.
Kapitoo is a glamping place and café. This place reminds me of Puncak in West Java, but this one is in Toraja. We came to their café to have a breakfast. This place is so serene and relaxing with the mountain view. The air is fresh and cool. There are indoor and outdoor area in this café. They provide variant of small bites, main dishes, coffee, and non coffee drinks as well. Here are what I tried for the breakfast : Soup Ubi (IDR 40,000) A good choice to have this warm soup in the cool and breeze morning air. A bowl of white rice vermicelli, fried cassava, shredded chicken, boiled egg, green and fried onion in a clear soup. Aeropress (IDR 30,000) There are 3 kinds of manual brew that we could choose, such as V60, tubruk, and aeropress. They use Toraja beans coffee. The coffee color may look light, but the taste is good and quite strong.

We were the only occupied tent on the day, it was a rainy day but the staff were real friendly. Only downside is the food which was a little too salty in taste. Otherwise the only glamping destination in Toraja so it's a unique one overlooking some rice terraces.

Very nice place with a good view from the top of the hill. People are very nice and welcoming. The bean soup is excellent, with beans, carrots and Buffalo meat. Ask a Tasado iced coffee, it is a specialty of the house and is very good.

We got amazing view from the balcony of the glamping, even the bathroom have the view to the city. The food are amazing, tried buffalo meat for the first time. It's good!

Highly recommended place to stay in Toraja. Located about 30 minutes from downtown Rantepao making it very suitable for relaxing while enjoying the fresh air and incredible views. From the tent terrace, we can see the beautiful rice fields mixed with sunshine and clouds in the morning . Apart from glamping, Kapitoo also provides a cafe with good taste and affordable prices

Art cafe
Cafe Aras 2 (Halal) is a stylish and spacious coffee shop and restaurant located in Toraja Utara. It offers a wide variety of coffees, fresh juices, Indonesian and European dishes. The ambiance is great with vintage vibes, making it an ideal place to hang out with family and friends. While the food may be slightly expensive, it is delicious and served in generous portions. The staff are polite but could benefit from more knowledge about the menu items.
Very nicely decorated café in the toraya theme. They also serve nice food, some local, lots of indonesian choices, and some western. We took the local chicken in black sauce which was very tasty (and no bones, a plus for us). Beware however that for the other 2 available choices of local food you have to order about 5 hours in advance according to their menu. Their coffee is good (pandanesian). They also sell some handicrafts if you are interested in some souvenirs 👍🏻 Only downside of this place is the rather slow/passive service and few choices of torayan foods. Overall recommended place.

Delicious grilled shrimp with a flavorful sauce. Generous portion and great value for money. Cozy, nicely decorated place with fresh and tasty food. Highly recommend!

The portions are very appropriate for the price and super filling. I am glad to have chosen this place for my christmas dinner.

The nasi goreng was good and with a crispy chicken katsu 😋. Soup was good too, I come here often when I'm in Toraja because of the nice food.
BBassie — Google review
The place is underwhelming. The staff are aloof and don’t pay attention to customers. Food is disappointing. The place is the most gentrified restaurant / cafe of Rante Pao. I’d suggest going for something more authentic. (Only have a picture of spaghetti that my daughter had but we also tried Indonesian dishes)

Amazing place with great atmosphere. This is the best refuge from the busy street outside. Relaxed music on the background to enjoy the great food.

Good service, fair price nice ambience. We ordered Bintang Crystal, French Press, Es Kopi Susu & Capcay Goreng. All were good. The portion of the capcay is enormous. Enjoy the french press as well. The only minus we experienced in this cafe is the mosquito. They are very active, so it will be more convenient if you use trousers
Agnes C — Google review
The café is in a very beautiful location, but unfortunately the food was extremely disappointing. I ordered the fried vegetables, which arrived as a soggy mess covered in an extremely slimy sauce, which has nothing to do with fried vegetable… It was so sticky that if you turned the plate upside down, it would cling to it. I pointed this out to the staff, but nothing was done — no apology, no replacement, and certainly no gesture of goodwill. We had to pay the full price, and nobody seemed to care that the food was inedible. Very poor service and quality, which is a real shame given the nice setting.

Cafe for Book and Coffee lovers. A nice and cozy place for hanging out with friends and family. Nice interior with natural materials and it has many books. The Barista also very friendly and my fav is Avokaa.

Not a new concept, books and coffee, yet still not very common in Indonesia, let alone Toraja. A very nice touch. The coffee is good, and the service is friendly, warm and efficient. The atmosphere of the cafe, now, that is something. Beautifully decorated, good lighting and soft background sound, definitely a perfect place to contemplate, read books, do some writing, etc. Love this cafe, a must visit.

This place is awesome. The owner is a friend of mine, an author and a person who is passionate of books. Such a hiding place where you can read books, or work on your laptop, while enjoying variety of delicious meals. Highly recommended.

Coffee shop
Kopi Toraja - ToRi Coffee is an exceptional café with a delightful atmosphere, incorporating contemporary design along with captivating depictions of Toraja culture. The coffee and cuisine are excellent, although some may find the sweetness overwhelming. Despite this slight flaw, the prices are reasonable and the establishment's commitment to sustainability by avoiding plastic straws is commendable. The service is satisfactory, and even though the staff may not be fluent in English, they make sincere efforts to understand customers.
One of the best cafe in rantepao, toraja. Certified Halal. Nice ambience and good food. Salam from Malaysia
Nurul A — Google review
Probably the nicest looking cafe/restaurant in Rantepao. Very modern interior design and good atmosphere. The food (at least the pizza and smoothie bowl) was however not the best and left quite a bit to be desired.
Ebba J — Google review
A cozy gem in the heart of Toraja, perfect for anyone looking to relax with good coffee and good vibes. The ambiance is warm and inviting from the moment you step in—decorated with aesthetic corners perfect for photos, and complemented by the friendly smiles and quick service of the staff. The menu offers a variety of tasty drinks and hearty meals, all served in generous portions at very reasonable prices. Definitely great value for what you get. There’s a designated smoking area, which is a thoughtful touch for those who need it. The only downside might be the limited parking space, which can be a bit tricky during peak hours. One suggestion—hopefully, they can consider staying open a bit later, perhaps past 10 PM. For visitors like us who travel all the way from Jakarta, it’s quite difficult to find cozy spots to hang out late into the night in Toraja. Still, this place stands out as one of the coziest cafés in town—hoping it stays just as good (or even better) for a long time to come.

Tori Coffee is the place where i can taste new food, new desert, etc. The waitress so kind with us. When we're read the menu and order the food slowly, the waitress faithfully waiting. Although there wasn't a mistakes, they will ask you about the food. You can free enjoy the mill and live music on there.

Always be our to-go-place to catch up with friends... Our favorite is always its sandwich, very light and more than enough to share with 2. Having taste almost all of the drinks, the coffee is nice, tho. The service is also good. Afternoon would be the best place to visit, take the outdoor, not too crowd and quite cozy.
Amelia — Google review
Superb coffee, well decorated, nice music, blending contemporary design with pictures and painting of Toraja culture. The good is great, but too sweet to my taste. I would have given 5 stars but really the sugar level was too high for me. Price seem reasonable too, they don't use plastic straw, so they seem concern about the trash issues. Don't miss a visit to this place.
Xavier G — Google review
Strategically located coffee shop, just by the main road with great offerings on coffees and limited variety of coffee beans. Decently priced. They even offer manual brew V60, which taste great. Their americano is very weak to my taste. But still, has a very nice aftertaste. Their staff are professional, warm and polite. Great cafe, spacious. Overall, a good place for a quick bite and coffee.

I definitely had an amazing experience walking in, the staff was very warm welcoming. The coffee (and other drinks) were amazing, with foods i only tried out the dim sum as snack which tasted delicious but the other foods sure also looked delicious. Location is easy to find, i’m so happy that Toraja gained an amazing food spot as logika coffee house. Wishing you all the best Logika coffee house, keep up the good work!

The place has a nice atmosphere and it’s cosy however the menu is a small and it’s very slow. The portion are not very big so you should not go if you have a huge appetite. There is a nice church next to it that you may want to visit. It is easy to find on main street very close to the buffalo market

Good food, the restaurant itself was clean and had a fancy modern interior.

The food and drinks are very tasty and recommended, the service is also very good and the staff are very friendly and professional. When we are at Logikaa Coffee House we will feel a relaxed atmosphere with a very classic Logikaa coffee shop theme, a fun place to chat and gather with friends. I just visited a place as good as this, and I think Logikaa Coffee House is the best cafe in North Toraja🫶🏻🫶🏻🤗

very good place to gather and also while enjoying affogato in the afternoon, the waffles are very legit and feel very good, parking is safe, the service is very good, easy to reach on the axis road✨️🧇🍨☕️

Homey and the staff are really nice. No hesitation to say this as best place to hangout in town, especially for those seeking for calm vibes ☺️

Totally flabbergasted to find such a cosy place in the middle of Toraja. Simplemfood, but nicely served. Here we don't talk about gastronomy, it's french fries, or some simplemlocal food, bbq...the drinks menu is quite interesting, with many coffee specialities.
