"I Segreti del Chiostro" is a hidden gem located within the Chiesa di Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, paying homage to the age-old tradition of crafting pastries in convents. The shop offers an array of traditional Sicilian treats such as cassata, cannoli filled with fresh ricotta cream, almond and pistachio cookies, and intricately hand-painted marzipan fruits.
It was an experience that I definitely can’t forget during our vacation in Palermo. It is very difficult to easily find here for someone who doesn’t hear. You enter through the door of a monastery, the attendants guide you and then you find the place you want to reach thanks to the smell of the bakery. I ate the most beautiful cannoli I’ve ever tasted in a perfect courtyard. I don’t want to talk too much so that the beauty of this place is not spoiled, but on the other hand, I want everyone to experience it 🥹Definitely recommended. PS: It is very possible that there is a queue.
Ş T — Google review
After seeing this place online we had to give it a try and I wasn’t disappointed! This cannoli is the BEST one I ever had that now I don’t want cannoli’s around where I live anymore lol. The line was about 15-20 min wait and like many say, you can share one because it’s so big. No place to really sit and eat at the garden because there’s lots of people doing the same thing. The system of lines is controlled and appreciated.
Krammer A — Google review
We joined the very long line at the famous I Segreti del Chiostro while in Palermo. This shop inside the Santa Caterina Monastery prepares pastries using ancient recipes passed down from the nuns. I tried the pistachio cannoli — crisp shell, creamy filling, and perfectly balanced sweetness, though for me it was massive (honestly, too big!). Staff were friendly and patient despite the line. Overall, a must-stop if you love authentic Sicilian pastries from an iconic institution. Saluti
Frank F — Google review
Probably was once only a local place, thanks to online reviews much busier. Waited almost 20 mins to order but it was worth it! Cannolo was HUGE and gratefully shared. I had to try the minne di virgini - very different with chocolate pieces inside and cloves and cinnamon flavors in a marzipan-like filling. We visited the church first and had a chance to see the monastery and climb to the rooftop, but this is not required to get to the dolceria.
Jessica R — Google review
Once you arrive at the entrance it’s a short walk up stairs and down the hallway. There was a line, it took 10-ish minutes and then you’re inside with your number. Once your number is called you quickly place your cannoli order and desserts. The process was too overwhelming for me personally but I think it’s a great place to try many Sicilian desserts for a fair price. The cannoli was too sweet for me, it’s also huge so I recommend splitting it between 2 people. The marzipan was really nice! The fountain area where one can sit was crowded. Overall a nice experience but one could also skip it if they’ve tried Sicilian desserts before
Nia M — Google review
If you want to eat at the “birthplace” of the cannoli, this is the place to come. Tasty desert, including cannoli’s and a lot of varieties of desserts. We went in off-season (middle of October) and there was a bit of queuing, but not terrible, 15-20 minutes of waiting. Queues are organized and it moves pretty fast. Also there is an interior garden to sit and enjoy the desert
Sanyes — Google review
Very unique location and ambiance. The cannolis here are big and well done but the filling is a little on the sweet side and not as delicate and creamy ricotta as those we had at top places in Catania. To us the Catania style was superior.
Michael S — Google review
Lovely cannolis. We grabbed one with pistachios and ate it in the small courtyard within the church. We waited in a line for around 5 minutes before a man at the door gave us a ticket with a number which the ladies call when it's your time to order. A very efficient system but make sure you know what you want to order quickly! €4 for the cannoli. You could definitely share with a friend! Would return.

Cannoli is a must-try when visiting Sicily, as it is the iconic sweet symbol of the region. These delectable pastries consist of a crispy tube filled with a creamy ricotta cheese-based filling, sometimes flavored with pistachio or blood orange. When in Palermo, visitors can indulge in local flavors by sampling cannoli from various restaurants, street vendors, and peddlers in the historical center.
So glad we stumbled upon this on the main walking street! It was our first cannoli of the trip and many more to come. The size is generous but not sickening because the ricotta cream is delicious and not too sweet! The hazelnut ricotta cheese cream was addictive and the large size is only 3 euros! Worth a stop
Karen T — Google review
Oh my god, this cannoli place is a must try. There are five different filling and topping options and they fill them freshly upon order. I had a small one orange ricotta filling with pistachios and orange topping, and it was heavenly. My friends were super happy with what they ordered. They also serve granite and ice creams. I’m definitely going back today to try other options.
HJLee — Google review
The gluten free cannoli are what I was hoping for and they are delicious. The service is nice too. I’m putting one star as the gluten free went from 3.80 to 4.50€ in a week! 20% inflation for us gluten free people. So I put one star hoping the owner will revise this price policy .
Laurent L — Google review
Probably the best cannoli we had during our trip! Fresh, crispy, and very sweet. Definitely recommend sharing one portion between two people if you don’t want to go into a sugar coma 🙂 Highly recommended!
Mateusz T — Google review
THE BEST place to get a dessert in Palermo! when we first tried the cannolo on our week-long trip, we then visited it every single day. the brioches are always fresh, granita sweet and refreshing and the cannolo was the best we had! super kind staff! very generous portions, well worth the price. must visit if you have a sweet tooth
Wojciech G — Google review
Best Cannoli I have ever tried. This is probably one of the best places in Sicily to try cannoli and if you come to Palermo you must stop by. The shell is crunchy but not too hard, just perfect, and they have different fillings to choose from and toppings to add on the sides. The fillings are also spot on, creamy but not overly sweet, just perfect. I tried the classic, pistachio, and hazelnut. I could not fault any! Also, a very good touch, if you are allergic to nuts, they will prepare yours at the back to avoid any potential cross contamination.
Fernando B — Google review
THE BEST CANNOLI I EVER ATE! I ate Cannolis at multiple cities in Italy , But Cannoli and Company are the winners! Uffff! A must try if you’re in Palermo. Their pistachio cannoli was out of the world!
Shreyaa S — Google review
classic cannoli was good choice. cannoli filled in front of you, mine was with ricotta cheese and I chose pistachio topping and sugar powder. I had cannoli before and this one was really good. Came on Monday before closing, so there was no queue. 3,20€ was the size I chose, there are bigger or smaller, with chocolate glaze or classic.

Pasticceria Savia is a historic patisserie that has been serving delectable sweet treats, pastries, and savory snacks since 1897. Located on the lively Via Etnea street, it offers an intimate dining experience with terrace seating. The highlight of their menu is the colossal arancini - deep-fried rice fritters filled with tender ragu, cheese, or butter.
The granita is fabulous and they do a mignon brioche which is so cute. Pistachio and fragola granita were outstanding and came with proper panna. The pistachio cornettos are not to my taste overly large and well stuffed but with a pistachio custard, they just are not remotely tasty and not worth it particularly if sitting down and paying the excess. All the cakes were delicious. Average cannoli. Very good arancini also. The staff are lovely particularly the men at the bar and a clean bathroom is kept. Recommmeded.
Dee — Google review
Go early in the morning for the freshly hand-made cannoli. I usually have to take them outside to eat, because the wait for a empty table can be long in the busy season. If you have the time eat them at a table with a nice expresso. The green filled cannoli's are my favorites, I always miss that great taste when I do find one in a Paris bakery.
Device 2 — Google review
I LOVED this cafe. Yes, it was very busy and hard to find a table…. But that’s for good reason. They have great pastries at great prices. I didn’t try their savory, but I’m sure it is also very good. I got their cannoli and a large rum baba filled with pastry cream. Both fantastic! The cannoli had a lighter shell than most I had, which didn’t really make it better or worse in my mind. Just different. The rum baba- oh wow. So delicious! Super moist and flavorful. It’s huge for the price too.

If you want to experience the real Sicily — where tradition, flavor, and soul come together — Savia in Catania is the place to go. From the moment you step inside, the aroma of freshly fried arancini fills the air — golden, crisp on the outside, and perfectly creamy within. These aren’t just snacks; they’re a piece of Sicilian history, made just as they should be. Every bite reminds you that you’re tasting the original, authentic flavor that locals have loved for generations. And it doesn’t stop there. For something sweet, pair a soft, buttery brioche with the rich, velvety granita — the perfect Sicilian breakfast duo. Add a strong espresso, and you’ll understand why this region’s culinary traditions are so revered. At Savia, every flavor feels like it’s feeding your soul. It’s not just food — it’s heritage, passion, and love served on a plate. Whether you come for the arancino or stay for the dessert, this is a stop no true food lover should miss in Catania.

This place was recommended to us. Busy with locals, it’s a great place to grab an arancini or cannoli. Get yourself in line to pay first, then wait for your ticket number to be called.
An — Google review
Loved the granita (chocolate and pistachio) and the brioche buns here, super soft with a lovely hint of citrus. We ended up coming back twice just for the granita and brioche! The arancini catanese was good, though the pistachio one was a bit bland despite being freshly made. The wait for a table can take a bit, but the waiters were kind.
Sunny N — Google review
It was recommended to me by my hotel. It was a very good selection of tasty Sicilian food like Arancini, Croissant, sweets, coffee, any many more. I really liked the Cafe al Ginsing, Spinach Arancini, and Pistachio Croissant. Just one drawback is that as this is very popular place, there is sometimes a waiting queue where people sometimes need to stand for say 20mins in peak hours, but it is worth it. Waiters service is good and they speak English. Card payments are accepted.
Tushar R — Google review
A delightful experience in this exclusive pastry shop in Catania Sicily. Special credits to our waiter, Cesare, for his efficiency, rapidity, kindness and fair behaviour towards the clients.

Pasticceria Cappello is a renowned pastry shop located in the historic city center of Palermo. Originally opened as a dairy in the 1940s, it has evolved into a famous pastry shop known for its delectable creations.
This place was very busy on Christmas and for a reason, I saw so many beautiful pastry platters arranged in front of my eyes each more enticing than the other. Draw a number at the entrance and wait for your turn, order, pay at the cashier and pick up your carefully packed sweets. Sfogliata with ricotta was my favourite, super crispy layers and balanced ricotta cream. The pistachio petit fours was also amazing. House chocolate bars with pistachio and other nuts or dried fruit also available at the cashier desk.

Delicious pastries! The tiny gelato sandwich and delizia pistachio cake were so tasty. And the cannolicchio was perfect! Great coffee too.
Julia W — Google review
After trying many cannolis in Palermo, I can confidently say this was by far the best. In addition to their amazing cannolis, we sampled a variety of mignons and an iris — and everything was absolutely perfect. The atmosphere was wonderful too, filled with local workers grabbing a quick bite and kids returning from school, which made it feel genuinely authentic. The host was incredibly warm and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. We had food elsewhere in Palermo that was half as good for twice the price. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone visiting — I honestly wish I could eat here every day.
Lovrog0 — Google review
While the cakes themselves were nice, the man who served us was rude. Obnoxious clearly into his phone more than serving us and being somewhat stuck up with my friend's best attempt to speak Italian seemingly consistently misunderstanding which cake she wanted, one or two pieces of. He then proceeded to play with his phone as he was half wrapping our package and generally seemed just annoyed at our existence. The taste of cakes was definitely not worth the attitude that we were given in this place
S L — Google review
Great place for a coffee and something to nibble. Amazing croissants with pistachios and the best arancini in the city. I highly recommend arancini with carne (beef).
Zofia L — Google review
Pasticceria Cappello is truly the best sweet shop in Palermo. The quality of their baked goods is outstanding, and I absolutely love it. Every time I stay in Palermo, this place makes me fall in love with the city even more. I ended up going there every day to enjoy their delicious cakes and pastries. Highly recommended!

Local cafe/pastry shop. Came here to check if it’s actually the best cannoli in Palermo. Maybe in Palermo it may be the best but i’ve had better. Everyone may like their cannolis in many ways. Their cannoli was different. Did taste authentic. Coffee was good. Service was good, staff were friendly. The best part is this shop is local so the prices are not that expensive. 1 cannoli & a coffee for 2.5 euro! They have alot of variety I would visit again! Highly recommend.

Hidden gem. Perfect canolo and other sweets. For those with a sweet tooth , it's compulsory to visit I really had no time to take photos as the experience to grab the lady to order was a qonquest on its own. They really have lots of costumers but it's worth

Saw this on google recommendations, Had a lovely breakfast here which a variety of sweet and savoury here. Returned for evening drinks, which was joined with amazing treats. One being some sort of strawberry cream tart, best I have ever tasted. Also the service was quick, polite and very friendly. The atmosphere was relaxing cause of its location down a cozy walkway, full of orange trees. Don’t miss this place.

Loved the place. The atmosphere is amazing. I ordered desserts and some cookies to go. It was nice. During Christmas holidays it was quite busy and the staff was handling it with a nice smile on their face. You can stay there and enjoy ur time while eating some amazing dessert and drinks.

The panini and coffee were good, and the waiter was friendly and attentive despite a language barrier. Some details could be improved, such as cleaner cutlery and serving water in a proper glass instead of a plastic cup. Overall, a relaxed café that feels more like 3.5 stars, but I’ll round it up to 4

Spinnato dal 1860, an old-school cafe in Palermo on a beautiful tree-lined pedestrian street, is the perfect place for an afternoon drink, a snack, or an aperitivo before dinner. - as well as great people watching! They also have a more modern cafe on the Piazza Castelnuovo, right across the street from the Politeama Theatre.

Great quality and delicious treats, quick and excellent service, affordable prices. A lovely cafe located in a beautiful area. Would definitely recommend this place!

The arancini’s were okay, the coffee was good, the devils food cake was dry and too sweet. The waiter was a bit rude, got our order wrong and still tried to charge us for the extra thing we didn’t order. I wouldn’t recommend, nor would I return.

This cafe has been in operation since 1860. Inside, you have a candy store, full cakes, pastries, ice creams, and dessert sections. Outside, there is a large covered patio. We were served by different servers, which caused a long delay when asking for the bill. Coffee was OK and the desserts freshly made and a bit too sweet.

When you think of Sicilian cuisine, the "Cassata del Barone" stands out as a true emblem of indulgence and flavor. This delightful dessert, with its roots tracing back to Arabic and Latin influences, is a vibrant representation of abundance in both color and taste. The preparation is intricate, showcasing an array of fresh ingredients that come together harmoniously.

Kind, thoughtful and always ready to advise you, they immediately point out that you can see that they love what they do. The real jewel of their counter is certainly the cassata, offered in different forms, by the glass or classic, it is clear that behind every cassata there is study, passion and a lot of love. A pastry shop like this is not easy to find!!!! super recommended!!!! We were here on a Sunday late morning for a Sicilian breakfast sitting outside, staff of outside is nice the rest inside at the counter and for the payment not, many things were not available for example pistacchio croissant, so we had something else, espresso coffee with milk very burnt ( when the coffee machine it’s too hot ) horrible, we had two croissant mini one empty and the other with something similar to Nutella that was not Nutella, the croissant dough dry with no butter, granita too liquid like a fruit juice, price are really high, I don’t think we will be back, there are other places in which breakfast it’s yummier

Tasty sweets. We’ve ordered: - torta alle fragole (4€): tasty, delicate sponge cake, not so sweet - annolo ricotta (4€): delicious - café cappuccino (2,80€): you can find better in Catania

Laboratorio Pasticceria Roberto is a renowned pastry shop in Taormina, Sicily, known for its exceptional cannoli. The Chemi family has been crafting these delectable treats since 1989, with Roberto following in the footsteps of his father Michele, a celebrated pastry chef. Unlike many other shops, Laboratorio Pasticceria Roberto insists on filling their cannoli to order to ensure the ricotta remains creamy and fresh while maintaining a crunchy shell.
THE CANNOLI WAS UNREAL! We were never really fans of cannolis before, until we had this one. Let me tell you, we came back every single day to get cannolis. They are freshly made to order, preserving their taste and crunch. The team is so kind and their chemistry is so great. We are still dreaming of that cannoli fyi!

Amazing, fresh, super yummy cannoli!! I love how they only do traditional cannolis which means they know what they are doing. The lovely man working there invited us to go into the kitchen to watch them make the cannolis and talked us through the process which added to the experience!
Hayley T — Google review
Best cannoli in Sicily. The lady inside immediately knew what we were there for cannoli and prepared them freshly filled. After trying cannoli in 6–7 other places across Sicily, these still stood out as the best we had. A great little stop if you want a perfect example of the Sicilian classic.

We went 3x in 24 hours because this place is THAT GOOD. Roberto the owner is so kind - the business has been in his family for 40+ years and now he runs it with his son. Delicious pastries!!! We loved the pastes - especially the naturale. The limone strudel was also delicious. Don’t miss this place!!!

When you are in Italy, you must try Cannoli of course! There is a bunch of sweets there but I only got Cannoli with 2 flavors: pistachio and almond. It is so good! It is pretty huge, can be shared for 2 people.
M E — Google review
Came across this lovely little spot while strolling down the main street. The authentic Italian-style bakery immediately caught my attention and it did not disappoint! The lady behind the counter was so friendly and kindly explained the different types of pastries. I went with the almond paste , and she even showed me another almond variation. The pastry was absolutely delicious. Mildly sweet, perfectly gooey on the inside, and filled with that wonderful aroma of almond ☺️
Anya T — Google review
The cannoli are tasty, however I feel we were “tricked” by the labelling of the almond pastry. The label simply has “2 Euros” so we assumed it was per weight as most pastries are in Italy. The attendant kept encouraging us to buy the almond pastry for family and friends etc. When we got to the cashier, she whispered the total price was “109 Euros”’ for 3 boxes of almond pastry, 2x cannolis & 2x bottles of water. 😳 it was too late by then, they differently take advantage of tourists!! I bet she whispered the price because she didn’t want the other customers to hear!!! BEWARE OF THE ALMOND PASTRIES THE SHOP ATTENDANTS WILL KEEP TELLING YOU TO TRY IT. THEY NEED TO CHANGE THEIR PRICE LABEL TO MAKE IT CLEAR ITS 2 EURO PER PEIECE. Taking advantage of tourists is not acceptable

I don’t usually love cannolis but this was exceptional! Great staff and the pastries were also delicious.

Pasticceria Maria Grammatico is a renowned pastry shop in Sicily, founded by the eponymous Maria who learned her craft as a baker during her time as a cloistered nun. The shop, which has been thriving for over half a century, offers an array of delectable treats such as cassatelle, lingue di suocera, genovesi, fruit tarts, and cannoli.
Our tour of Sicily and the salt flats stopped here for a dessert tasting. Staff was very pleasant and the treats were delicious
Pamela P — Google review
Stopped by Maria Grammatico’s pastry shop in the morning while walking around Erice. It’s a small, quiet place with outdoor seating and a nice view — perfect for a cappuccino ☕ and something sweet This is a well-known bakery that’s been around since the 1960s, when Maria started it after learning how to make traditional Sicilian pastries from nuns I had a cassatina, a slice of ricotta cake, and a few small sweets. All were good, though a bit too sweet for my taste — but that’s typical of Sicilian desserts 😅. I noticed the place gets quite busy later in the day, with people lining up and buying pastries to take home as gifts A lovely local spot that’s definitely worth trying if you’re in Erice 💛.
NGAN P — Google review
Simply the best sweets in Sicily. Whatever you will pick you will be shocked by it's taste! Prices are OK, usually there is a line to get them but it's totally worth unless it goes out the shop which means like 1h + of wait. But if you got time do it, it's worth. Genovese is the main sweet here, but go ahead and try each one.
& R — Google review
Delicious pastries and coffee. Beautiful seating in an atrium garden. Tree provides shade. Pricing doesn't hurt your wallet. Staff helped me pick pastries. I give this place an autistic stamp of approval.
Kétis K — Google review
The desserts here were amazing – the pastries were still warm and incredibly tasty. However, I was quite surprised that the cappuccino was served in a plastic cup. I’ve never seen hot coffee like that before, and unfortunately, it was more like warm milk without any foam. A great place for sweets, but the coffee experience needs improvement.
Lina — Google review
Erice's best known and most Traditional Sicilian pastry shop with the personality of its founder Maria Grammatico following the convent recipes she learned while young when being raised at a Franciscan convent in Erice and expanded with new findings. Well known all over the world. The book she published, ' Bitter almonds' telling her memories and explaining her main recipes has become a classic, I bought the original version in English at the pastry shop, they also offer a translated Italian version. Very busy in season, but always a great place to enjoy Sicilian pastries with authentic local ingredients and a distinct personal touch, this shops helps to better understand the Sicilian universe of pastries and sweets with Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Norman, Arab, Spanish, especially from the convents and Swiss influences in what has come today a unique pastry culture in the world

Great option for pastry while in Erice. We were overwhelmed when we came in. It’s small and there are so many options, but we sat in the garden and our server came by and helped us pick out some things to try. Very cute and tasty!

Recommended by a local to come here for Maria’s famous genovesi - 2 minutes of pure heaven as I devoured this warm, buttery biscuit filled with vanilla cream custard! Wish I had the language to let them know how much I enjoyed this in Italian 🇮🇹

Caffè Costanzo is a charming dolceria located in Noto, Sicily, known for its classic Sicilian treats such as brioche stuffed with granita and traditional cannoli. Situated on a small side street surrounded by baroque buildings, it offers a lovely setting with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the atmosphere and views. The café also boasts a great selection of gelato flavors.
Best cafe in Noto! Lovely, friendly staff, great coffee, really nice sweet treats and great gelato. Good value for money, lots of tables to sit out on in front on a quiet little street and far less touristy than Caffè Sicilia which is on the Main Street. Came here several times during our stay, will be back!
Charlotte R — Google review
As a tourist visiting for the first time, I was excited to try Caffè Costanzo after seeing some great reviews. I showed a photo from one of those reviews where the coffee looked exactly like what I was hoping to get—a smooth latte blend. Strangely enough, the table next to me received just that. But despite showing the photo and clearly asking for the same, I was still served a standard cappuccino with a heavy white foam top. I understand this might be the norm in Italy, but if a customer takes the time to show what they want, it’s disappointing to not be heard, especially when others are getting that exact thing.
Joris — Google review
Nice option for pastries and juice/coffee. They're open early and speak great English so it's easy to order. We got multiple delicious croissants and some danish adjacent pastries. My toddler really lived the chocolate croissants! Had a great experience doing both sit down and take away. They also have some other deserts that looked pretty delicious.

We got the strawberry and mulberry granitas. Very sweet but refreshing. Both have seeds in them, but are very flavorful. The mulberry granita has larger seeds. I probably would have liked it more without them. The atmosphere was really nice as it was a block off the main road and was a little quieter.

Absolutely the best gelato I had in Noto, perhaps all of Sicily. Amazing value too, an absolute must visit!

Asked for ice, milk and espresso, got a granita with a bit of ice, had to ask for more milk and still super sweet. It’s one thing to offer something local, but it’s not okay to take a customer’s order and change it.

The bakery also offers almond paste cookies and delicious gelato flavors such as pistachio served in perfect brioches.
Great place to taste the real Sicilian pastries. You will most likely wait in a queue with a lot of people, it's busy as hell, but the staff somehow manages it. Try the cannoli, we liked the ones with pistaccio cream the most. Whatever you order, you will not regret. Be prepared that it is a take-away place, no tables.

We have tested all the top ‘cassate’ according to the scattidigusto.it website. We are slightly disappointed by this one, I doubt about the quality of the ingredients. We have asked for the ingredients list of the ‘cassata’ and the ‘pasta reale’, surprisingly they were unable to provide it. There are no tables to taste their patisserie, but they provide plastic forks and plates to enjoy the sweets in a park not so far from the shop.

A very modest-looking place, but reputedly the best in Catania. Delicious cakes, and excellent ice cream. After witnessing the 12 o'clock bells ring at Cathedral Messina, we found our way to this wonderful shop for a traditional sicilian coffee granita with brioscia. The whipped cream, icy coffee crystals, accompanied by the perfect brioche was a nice way to cap off a quick few hours in the port! We also tried the cannoli, and its the best ive ever had! That same whipped cream is so enjoyable, and the pastry shell is light and crispy! I also had to try the life-like Cherry pastry! Everything is delicious and thoughtful. The barristas are all so kind and helpful! We will come back!

DR.Shehab G — Google review
During our trip to Messina, my daughter and I visited Pasticceria Irrera 1910, and it was a delightful experience. The service was quick and welcoming, and the food was outstanding. We tried a variety of traditional Sicilian pastries and drinks: Cannolo Siciliano: The classic, with a perfectly crispy shell and rich, creamy filling. Brioche: Soft and slightly sweet, perfect with granita. Maritozzo con Fragole: A delightful pastry with cream and strawberries. Iris al Forno: Baked pastry filled with sweet cream, lightly dusted with sugar. Granita al Pistacchio con Panna: Refreshing pistachio granita with whipped cream.Espresso: Strong and well-balanced, complementing the pastries perfectly. A tip: most items can be ordered in small (piccolo) or large (grande) sizes, so you can sample more. Everything was prepared to perfection, making this a must-visit spot in Messina for lovers of Sicilian pastries.
Rudi T — Google review
Yes…visit here for fantastic pastries. A friend who grew up in Messina recommended this place. It is very popular and was busy on a quiet Sunday. All the other surround shops were closed except for this place. We had the Fragola, Cannolo Ricotta and feta torta Piccola. All at my friend’s recommendation. Each were delicious and different. I gave up trying cannoli, even from some famous shops in Boston, because none come close to Sicilian cannoli. I’m ruined because they are so beautifully prepared here. I don’t know if I will return to Messina, but if I do I will return to Irrera. Oh yes, and all the desserts and a water totaled $13 Euro. A steal.

I was super excited to try these cannolis due to all the reviews and they were really good but didn’t blow me away. The shell was really good and the chocolate and traditional were my favorite cannolis. We also tried the pistachio and vanilla. I wanted an after dinner dessert, this cute small place was close to where I was staying and WOW. Without checking maps first and seeing they have 4.9 of 5, I was surprised. The service amazing, the owner is super nice, he told us this is his father recipe, the woman at the front desk super nice, she was confident that is the best cannoli in town (it is indeed) , good price, big cannolo, super tasty and just amazing. Highly recommend, I had the classic one and it’s just 10 out of 10. Will go back for other flavors ;)

La Pignolata Guinness Cannoli in Taormina is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Sicilian sweets. Serving since 1978, this charming spot is known for its freshly filled cannoli with crisp shells and rich, creamy ricotta – the pistachio and chocolate variations are especially popular. There’s also the namesake pignolata, a sticky, delicious local treat worth trying. The staff are friendly and happy to guide you through the options, and everything is made with clear attention to quality and tradition. Ideal for a quick, indulgent stop while exploring the town.

One of the best connolo Ive had in my 45 years on this planet. Fresh made to order. If you are in Taormina take the walk to this place! Traditional is best but the flavors are also great. The owner is so nice and welcoming.

Nice place to try canola or canoli depends on your sweet cravings. They were fresh and tasty. Had ordered mix of traditional ricotta and pistachio fillings in traditional canola shell. Ricotta was nice and fresh and pistachio filling was screaming Pistachio with every bite. And Fillings were not that heavy. Another option we opted which was (difficult to pronounce the name) mix of Nutella and hazelnut. And canola shell was also crisp and not at all oily. Person taking order explained everything clearly which made the selection faster and also got to eat faster. Worth visiting!
Nilesh B — Google review
Absolute favorite place to eat cannoli in Taormina. Stayed for a week very close to this shop and I have tried a lot of pastry and cannoli shops in town while I was there. I have to say my favorite were Pistachio & Gianduja, but the Ricotta (simple, with fruit or with coconut) is fabulous! The shells were not too hard and the pistachio or chocolate shells pair well with some flavours. The main thing is the sweetness - not too much, not too little, just a perfectly balanced dessert, that made me go back multiple times after eating and strolling around. They will be open until late so perfect for a late night sweet treat. The size is also great, as I have bought some other cannoli which were huge and I could not finish or just way too sugary, which I don’t mind because I do like very sweet desserts, but all fillings here were just the right amount and just sweet enough. If I ever come back I would buy again 10/10

Caffè Europa has a very nice location and offers two types of service: you can sit at a table, be served, and pay a service charge, or you can choose directly from the display, pay at the cashier, and avoid extra costs. It’s important to note that with the self-service option you cannot sit outside, only at the tables inside – that’s their policy. As for the products, the espresso wasn’t really to my taste, and the desserts I tried were a bit too sweet. Overall, though, it was an okay experience.

AMAZING Arancino! Best of my trip in Sicily. My husband had a Ragu and a had a spinach. They were so moist and delicious. I was unable to find one that was as good the rest of my trip. As far as the other items we tried- the Spritz and aperitivo options and the mini cassata cake and mini cannoli. Those weren’t bad but didn’t blow me away. The cassata was not great in the mini form as once you got through the heavy sugar coating, there wasn’t much left on the inside. And for the price of the tiny cake… two bites was not really worth it. The cannoli was good, just didn’t really love it in the mini form because I prefer the filling ratio of a large cannoli. The service we received from a counter attendant that spoke English was phenomenal! He was so patient and answered all my questions.

We were returning here almost every day for our coffee break during our vacation in Catania, Ognina. Each time we were served in style and very fast. + waiters had patience with our bad language. Not a sweet tooth, but once I had a bite of my son's cannolo and it was so fresh and delicious I was blown away! Yummy!! (Have tried them afterwards elsewhere but they were not even nearly that good). Children say their granitas with brioche were also great. And croissants with pistachios, omg...🤤 Me and my husband enjoyed sitting in Caffe Europa, having a good coffee, observing locals(by the bar-cheaper, or at the tables) and just feeling the pulse of this side of Catania. I do think Caffe Europa is their local meeting point. European prices. Recommended. Pleasant memories. ✨

This review was saved by the samples of almond cookies (croccatino di mandorla). I think it might have been better if I came earlier in the day. Like others have commented, there was a single employee and they just plucked a chocolate coated Cannolo from the fridge. Unfortunately my Italian wasn't good enough to ask for a fresh one. The Cannolo itself wasn't bad. The ricotta had good flavor but I didn't love the chocolate-covered interior. I know the covering is there to prevent the biscuit from getting soggy but this wouldn't be a problem if they were filled on demand.

We had high hopes for this place but we got disappointed. While other places in the vicinity were full and crowded this one was almost empty. This was a sign that something was not right, but anyway we ate some cannoli and they were just average. There was only one employee, which was enough considering the lack of customers. I guess this place was either good in the past or it has the good rating due to better service in their other stores.

Bar La Sorgente is a delightful gem that showcases the best of Sicilian pastry, particularly renowned for its cannoli and cassatelle. The cannolo, often hailed as the king of Sicilian desserts, features a crispy fried shell filled with fresh ricotta and can be enhanced with various ingredients like candied orange peel or chocolate chips. Originally crafted for carnival celebrations, this treat has become a beloved staple in Italian cuisine worldwide.
One of the best patisseries you will find in the Trapani province. Cassatella is a must here, trays with warm ones always available just off the frier. Great selection of other sicilian pastries too. I recommend the Genovese with cream or ricotta and the flavour rum ricotta peach. If you prefer savoury dishes, they offer an entire selection of panini, arancini, pizzette, calzoni, etc. The downside here is the long wait at the cashier due to the popularity of the place.

If you want to experience the chaotic yet organised Sicilian busy pastry shop experience , then this is your spot. Open the whole day , this shop provides great quality pastries as well as nice savoury sandwiches and great breakfast croissants. Everyone seems very hard working and they keep up with a huge workload daily. Hats off to them as they are doing a great job. It is very informal and rustic ( you might even witness a fight between staff members while coping with a busy service , but hey, this is the proper cafè experience). High recommended for quality Sicilian food !!

Ortigia Street Market is a vibrant and bustling market located at the entrance to the island of Ortigia in Sicily. The market offers an array of fresh ingredients, including seafood harvested from the nearby sea, colorful fruits and vegetables, olives, sundried tomatoes, homemade pestos and pastes, as well as local spices like chillies from Etna. Visitors can also find unique treats such as u strattu, a concentrated tomato paste used in Sicilian cuisine.
Absolutely loved this place. I enjoy markets as a rule and there's something enchanting about the colours and noise of them. We had lunch of focaccia and arancini and beer in the market and then wandered through the stalls which sold everything you could want )and probably some things you didn't know you wanted). if you are in Ortigia, you should go early in the morning just to soak up the atmosphere.

The Ortigia Street Market is a vibrant slice of local life, with stalls selling fragrant spices, fresh produce, seafood, and everything from clothes to kitchenware. Lively and colourful, it’s surrounded by casual restaurants and shops—perfect for browsing, buying, and soaking up the Sicilian charm.

A taste of childhood found in Ortigia street market - wild strawberries🍓 Overall a large selection of fresh seafood, herbs, spices, fruits and (not) typical vegetables, even a stand with old books about Syracuse. Good prices for nuts per kilo (pistachios) as well as Italian cookies of good quality. I had the best fresh juice from Sicilian oranges(arancia rossa). Worth a visit if you are in the area, everyone will find something for themselves!
Martyna M — Google review
We visited the bustling market on a Saturday morning in May. Next to fresh produce and catch of the day, street food and tourist shops have sprung up plentiful. We shopped ingredients for a dinner for 12, all ingredients appeared fresh and high quality. Prices for sea food are negotiable for considerable discounts at reasonable rates. One of my favorite experiences in Syracuse. 😇
Ricardo F — Google review
Tons of cute stalls to get souvenirs and many places to eat. Some of them are obvious tourist traps but many are very delicious and affordable. You can get fresh cheese, spices, cookies, spreads, etc. It’s always pretty crowded. Highly recommend purchasing fresh seafood and cooking if you are staying somewhere with a kitchen. So fresh and prices are amazing! The vege vendor at the end on the left next to the fancy restaurant speaks English also.

Fabulous markets. Brilliant food. The little local restaurants are to die for. I got a lovely mixed plate and so could sample all the fine fares of Sicilia on one plate. Great idea. And it was superb. Fresh produce is excellent.
Rod H — Google review
Way too packed with people and mainly with tourists. As it was very crowded and hardly could walk, was not so enjoyable in the end. But we bought some tasty and fresh products. However it’s a market, it is not possible to negotiate, even not with the souvenir sellers and even if you speak Italian. It is a bit overpriced. (We also visited a market in Catania which was wayyy more cheaper…)

Pasticceria Ficarra came recommended online which is why we visited. We ordered a Tiramisu & Cassatella di sant'Agata both were really tasty and fresh. Wanted to try Cannolis as well but already stuffed, everything on the display looked very tasty & fresh though. I would say this was our prime location when it comes to desserts in Catania.

I visited this café 5 times during my 7-day vacation – that alone should tell how amazing it is! 😊 The staff is incredibly friendly and quick, always welcoming and attentive. I especially loved the Cappuccino – absolutely delicious and served nice and hot. The left one at the photo that looks like a donut was my favorite piece to eat. Everything I tried was fresh and full of flavor. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area!

The arancini were delicious, perfectly crispy on the outside and packed with cheese inside. They were bigger than expected, and we both ended up completely full. Gelato is also worth trying, we chose chocolate and berry flavors, with the chocolate being particularly rich and memorable. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Definitely coming back next time!

i'm glad i listened to the reviews and went here - everything was great and the staff was very nice. the fragola granita: seemed fresh and non-artificial, good sweetness level, refreshing. the cannoli: had great ricotta filling, on the sweeter side so grab a coffee, the shell wasn't oily unlike in some other places, size of it was massive! the tart: it's marmalade, again, had a pleasant natural taste - no synthetic stuff! prices are good considering the location.

Ordered Mezze maniche artigianali alla Norma which is handmade short pasta with tomato, fried eggplant, basil, and ricotta salata - and it was delicius! Lovely, slightly larger cafè and restaurant on a very pleasant commercial street, an extension of Via Emmanuelle towards the bay. Wonderful coffees and pastries, and a nice looking but simple menu with a little something for everyone, including salads. I went back to try their Caesar Salad and it was terrific; lots of most chicken, crispy lettuce and the right amount of tasty dressing. Has both indoor and outdoor seating. They take care of you with good service and good food!

Pizza was the worst, no sauce under, just 4 pieces of hald tomatoes, very dry, like a hard Frisbee, i needed to put some olive oil on it to be able to eat. Wine was delicious, Bruschetta was Ok, waiters not so friendly. Walking continously around our table like pinguines.

Went for dinner around 7pm, very quiet. Picks up after 8pm. Had the fried squid and the pasta (similar to a carbonara but no cream, forgot the name of the dish) both dishes were delicious! Bit more expensive for the pasta than previous places but it was delicious so didn’t mind paying €18 for it.
Samantha — Google review
This place was recommended to us by our B&b host. We ordered a parmigiana as a starter, then spaghetti alle cozze and cous cous allo scoglio as main. The parmigiana was quite bland and had no seasoning. The spaghetti were the best of all, but they also lacked taste. I had high expectations for the cous cous but the seafood did not taste fresh, the prawns were not even cleaned (the intestine had not been removed) and overall the dish was tasteless. When we said to the staff at the till that we did not enjoy our meal, she told us “you are the first clients ever to complain, our cous cous is made fresh daily”. Portions are good but if you are looking for tasty, good quality food, please go somewhere else.
Giulia S — Google review
Absolutely beautiful food. We sat at a table with a view to the kitchen (when the day is too hot and you need air con inside). The kitchen staff were efficient, clean and hard-working. The table staff were equally as good in their roles, making wine recommendations and ensuring shellfish allergies were recorded amongst them. The wine, typical couscous with fish, pasta alle sarde, and sorbetto were all outstanding. Only lost a star as no background music at lunch. Highly recommend.

Very unfortunate experience, service was mediocre at best, food was not good, but most importantly 2 of the people in our party felt extremely sick almost immediately after dinner. We've been to Sciampagna for more than 5 times, their macarons are divine (see photo below). I really think that they are great masters of pastry art. The place is absolutely worth visiting. As for their products, we can really not complain. However, the place is unreliable: in the last 6 months we found it closed twice (once we found out that they were on holidays, which they definitely deserved, but the other day-off was without any justification). The staff is nice, a bit reserved, but this kind of Western style is still ok. Their products are definitely expensive, but they guarantee a nice, clean space. I find the shop often empty, glass shelves are echoing without any displayed product, which is a pity and we don't really like the dine-in space upstairs. Nonetheless, if you like sophisticated well-designed and very French-styled cafés, Sciampagna will do for you.

AMAZING gelato! I chose this place randomly when I was craving some ice cream, and I kept visiting it till the end of my trip to Palermo. Pistachio gelato is the best and no one can convince me otherwise, but nocciola (hazelnut) was also top notch. I would also recommend trying gelato in a brioche for a true Sicilian experience 🍨 The brioche itself was soft and delicious as well! 1 portion of gelato in copetta (cup) 1,80€ Gelato in brioche 2€ 100% recommend ❤️

While the easter Eake was acceptable, the pistachio Easter egg was disgusting. It tasted artificial and powdery, with absolutely no discernible chocolate or pistachio.

I live in Palermo, this place is so good I brought cannoli all the way to Poland for friends to try. They said it was the best cannoli they've ever had.
Carmelo B — Google review
Absolutely fantastic little pastry shop. It was not the easiest to find, and i almost gave up. Google maps walking navigation is not the best. But once the hard work of finding the place was over, yowza! Superlative fresh artisanal pastry at supermarket prices. It's at least half the price of the touristy stuff on Via Maqueda. The platter in my picture cost €5 for 10 pieces. A great way to try a whole bunch of uniquely sicilian recipes. Would return in a heartbeat! Note: i didn't see cannoli on offer, but my Italian is weak so i didn't ask.

Bar Vabres is a charming and laid-back café with a lovely terrace where you can enjoy delicious coffee, cakes, sweet and savory pastries. Located in Palermo, it's known for its delectable ricotta-filled cornetti and a wide variety of other pastries. The café also offers specialty coffees and savory breakfast options such as Palermo's rotisserie with a special mention for the arancine.
I had an amazing cappuccino with oat milk here! The Indian single origin blend paired perfectly with the oat milk. The service was good, and the staff were kind and friendly. I also tried a vegan Arancini for the first time, it was absolutely delicious.

We stumbled upon Vabres in Palermo and ended up going every single day of our trip—it was that good. The pastries are all made fresh in-house and are absolutely delicious. The coffee? Smooth, strong, and consistently great. The staff were so kind and accommodating to our order each morning, making the whole experience even better. Warm, welcoming vibe, incredible service, and genuinely the best breakfast we had in Sicily. Highly recommend if you’re in Palermo! ☕🥐

This place was recommended by our apartment hosts, and it turned out to be an excellent choice. It’s clearly very popular and busy at all times of day. Very small inside but there are a few tables outside. I was delighted to see a good selection of non-dairy milks, including Oatly, which made the coffees fantastic. The pastries were absolutely top-notch – the croissants wouldn’t be out of place in a Paris patisserie. The flaky ricotta "croissant" was fantastic, and the donut freshly filled with cream for us was a real treat. A wonderful spot, very much recommended!

These were easily the best arancini we had during our entire Sicily trip! 👌❤️ Loved the vibes here, it was busy both times we came, but we still managed to get a table. It seems to be a favourite among locals. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful when it came to choosing what to order. The coffee was great, and the arancini are made fresh to order. The aubergine one was our fav! Highly recommend visiting!

FAVORITE SPOT IN PALERMO. My boyfriend and I went back every day on our trip. We loved it so much. The arancini is OUT OF THIS WORLD. It’s made fresh and packed with flavour. The cappuccino was incredible and on top of the best quality of food and drinks we had the nicest customer service from the staff there. All smiling and asking us how our food was. Really enjoyed this place and will be back next time I’m in Palermo ❤️❤️ grazie mille per questo servizio

Pasticceria Costa is a renowned pastry shop located in the heart of Palermo, offering a wide array of traditional Sicilian desserts. One of its highlights is the famous cannolis, known for their crispy dough and luscious creamy filling. The pasticceria also boasts exquisite frutta martorana, hand-painted marzipan fruits that are not only visually stunning but also incredibly delicious.
Pasticceria Costa is an absolute delight for any dessert lover! From the moment you step inside, the inviting aroma of freshly baked treats promises a culinary adventure like no other. I indulged in their Sicilian cannoli, and let me tell you—they are to lose your mind for. Crispy shells perfectly cradle a luxuriously creamy filling, accented by just the right amount of sweetness and a hint of traditional citrus zest. Every bite is a celebration of authentic Sicilian craftsmanship and passion. The service is warm and attentive, making the entire experience feel like a cherished tradition. I wholeheartedly award Pasticceria Costa 5 stars for its exceptional quality, irresistible flavors, and the pure joy it brings with every delicious treat.

I love their branch in Via Gabriele D'Annunzio 15 - the decor and atmosphere is amazing, they have really good pastries. I went with my friend to the one in the city center and the staff was really unfriendly and even rude. What is even worse, although they have seats and proper cafe place, they serve coffee in plastics cups.

Based on our tour guide you can get the best traditional water melon gel here. Either in the form of a cake, or in a cup. The taste is not too sweet with a strong water melon flavour. The cup was better than the cake.

We came back three times for the granita brioche plus the cannolis, try everything and enjoy! Coffee is not bad either. Might be a line, but it’s worth the wait to sit outside and watch the baroque Quattro canti and the mountains in the far distance.

The one thing that I missed in Sicily was a proper bakery and I’m glad I finally got to visit one in Palermo! We had a maritozzo, a corner to with pistachio cream and a sort of bun (tasted like a french chouquette) filled with cream and strawberries. All three pastries were excellent, if you go to Palermo please visit this place you will not regret it.

This charming café is renowned for offering the perfect setting to enjoy a traditional Sicilian breakfast and continues to be a beloved establishment with over 100 years of history.
I’m a coffee enthusiast. I had a very good SOE (Single Origin Espresso) at the coffee shop. Then I went to the neighboring coffee bean roasting shop to buy a similar bean and tried hand-pouring it at home. It turned out to be one of the best coffees I’ve ever had, but I couldn’t find the same bean listed on the coffee shop’s website.

As soon as you enter, you feel a comfortable welcome, starting from the place up to the elderly lady (I assume the pastry chef) very reserved and shy, but always with a smile. We asked to have the Genovese shortcrust pastry, and she recommended the ones with hazelnut cream (even if the original ones are with cream). Needless to say, they were fantastic, and paid the right price, for the craftsmanship and quality of the product. Memorable experience. Absolutely worth visiting at least once if you pass by this enchanting village. Amazing cannoli! Amazing ice cream! I loved the coffee and other pastries as well. I didn’t see the reviews before going there now I went online to give the best review for the whole island Lipari. I don’t understand how come it has only 2.2 stars out of 5. For me and my family this has been the best pasticceria in Lipari. We’ve tried other few ones but this one has taken our heart and our stomachs as well. We’ve gone there the last 3 days of our stay, since it seems like we’ve found the best one now. Price-wise is not the cheapest but I was not aiming for cheap instead I went for full quality pastry. We definitely recommend it and would always return.
Chris L — Google review
We will honestly miss this place & be back on our next vacation! Everything we tried was excellent. Yes, it’s slightly on the upper price range, but really not by much—especially when you consider the quality of the products and the fact that you’re on an island… Of course, we recommend the granita and brioche (a classic combo), but we also sampled most of the morning pastries and none of them disappointed. The pistachio croissant is a killer—absolutely delicious. The terrace, while close to the main street, is set back enough that it doesn’t feel like you’re close to the road. It had a relaxed, holiday vibe that we really appreciated.
Bianca O — Google review
An institution here in Lipari. Very good granita and brioche, however the service is really awful and this drives the poor rate. The older waitress has no manners. I’ve kindly asked for a bottle of water, she snorted saying “one moment!” and the bottle never arrived. I struggled to get a coffee before the rest of the order. Very disappointed that a popular place as this one doesn’t care about service and professionalism to customers.

After reading the lonely planet guidebook where this place was mentioned as a must go - I wanted to try. The prices are elevated but this is an island so... The service was average but this was the worst granita I have tried in Sicily. And the restroom can be opened by a key which need to be asked from the staff - and the conditions of the restroom is awful (smell and dirt). Find another place.

We had one tiramisu, one pistachio cheesecake, and an eolina, or something like that,, local pastry with almonds… two coffees, and one bottle of water for 23 euro. Very expensive and they charge you service. Desserts were ok, but service was very questionable, and actually very confusing to place an order… also the waitress was upset because I asked to change table since the one we chose was besides the trash bins and there were flies flying by. Perhaps it’s the Sicilian way, very disappointing…

Two coffee and 3 scoops of gelato-19 euros. While choosing flavors we were offered to sit and wait for gelato and coffee, but the price is 3 times more if you sit, but no one is explaining it to you. Price on fridge indicates 5 euro, but after you sit it becomes 15. So be aware of the scam!
