My husband and I loved your little bakery and café. Had a wonderful experience, lovely atmosphere in the café and the cakes and coffee were great. Would love to come again! Very dog friendly.

Beautiful bakery, wonderful homely interior, excellent food, drinks and customer service.

Best egg custard tart I’ve ever tasted. An Eccles cake filled with currants not pastry & a perfect sausage roll. One of the best bakeries in the UK

Lovely local bakery. We stopped for coffee and a snack. All of which were absolutely lovely. Definitely recommend a visit here.

Brilliant little bakers, I bought a Steak and Ale pie which was full to the brim of steak and gravy really good pastry case too. But the highlight was the Cinnamon and Raisin bun.... Best I've had! My only regret was not buying the whole tray 🤤

Only stopped for a (very good) coffee but seems like a very nice cafe. Plenty of cakes and baked goods on offer

The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop is a quaint establishment located in the Lake District village, known for its unique and delectable gingerbread invented by Victorian cook Sarah Nelson in 1854. The shop also offers an assortment of other treats such as rum butter, fudge, mint cake, toffees, chocolates, and conserves. The historic shop continues to produce the renowned gingerbread using Nelson's original recipe and has garnered a global following.
Tiny shop. The best fresh baked gingerbread biscuit. No preservatives. You can buy just one or packages of 6 or 12. They also have chocolates, fudge, lip balm, lotion and much more. Their is a little bit of a wait in line but well worth it.
Mc S — Google review
The smell of the Gingerbread cookies tingles your senses even before you enter the shop. Easy to find, parking just a 2 min walk away. Gets busy very quickly and always a que. Loved the traditional Sarah Nelson's gingerbread. Bought some rum butter, ginger caramel and ginger lemon curd, must say it was tasty.
Mildred — Google review
This place can get very busy, as it seems to be on most visitors lake district to do list (myself included) Got here early though and was able to walk straight in with no wait. Arrive pre 10am to give yourself best chance of avoiding the crowds. The interior of the shop is a feast for the senses. Exuding Olde worlde charm from every corner, and the air is thick with the smell of the gingerbread. To taste it has very little in common with the gingerbread we are all used to, and is so much the better for it. A very dense and chewy texture that almost borders on crunchy. Warm flavor that lingers nicely after the initial mouthful. Does not keep well, but for me that didn't matter as I would have eaten it all long before thinking of keeping any. Definitely try to tick this box on your list, you'll be glad you did.
Mark D — Google review
A lovely callback to the classic, one assumes! The shop was fantastic fun on a pouring rainy day. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and quick. The queue does not reflect their speed, as the doors are just a bit narrow as it’s a very old building.
Jake P — Google review
Tasty, needed to go back for some more after trying it. Long queue but move fast. Daffodil garden and Wordworth family graves are nearby. Recommend to sit down and enjoy the gingerbread with the coffee at Grasmere Tea Garden, nice view and flat white!
Yaran L — Google review
This is such a quaint, iconic place and must see in Gracemere. The gingerbread is delicious as well as the dairy milk chocolate with ginger bits and affordable price too. The chocolate with pumpkin spice was my least favourite and for acquired taste. The queue is long and no shleter when it's raining. There is no seating area, which would've enhanced the positive experience. Nonetheless, I would visit again.
MS A — Google review
Smells incredible as you walk up to it. Cute little shop, nice to know the history behind it. However, very small inside, barely enough room for more than one couple at a time. Doesn't give much opportunity to browse products when there's a queue of people waiting to come in. Glad I saw this but wouldn't hurry back. Gingerbread taste delicious though.
Beth — Google review
We’re not huge fans of gingerbread in general, but having heard so much about this famous one, we had to try it. And it didn’t disappoint! It was very decadent, soft, not too overpowering ginger flavour, a mix between biscuit and cake. A must try if you’re in the area.

Copper Pot is a charming and dog-friendly cafe located in Ambleside. The cafe offers a cozy atmosphere with a rustic stone wall, an open fire for winter warmth, and a lovely garden for outdoor dining in the summer. It's a great spot to enjoy breakfast, sandwiches, snacks, and cakes before heading out for a day of exploration. The cafe is known for its top-quality coffee sourced and roasted locally.
What a little Gem!!! Stopped her for some breakfast on the way home from camping and so glad we did, the food was delicious, all fresh, all free range. We also had to take one of their delicious cakes for the road, it would have been rude not to. Staff were very friendly, service amazingly quick, and they had Yorkshire Tea which makes them eligible for a Michelin star in my eyes lol Prices were very good as well, didn’t break the bank. Very cool decor, with cartoons projected on the wall as you ate. Highly recommended! Will definitely come back on my next visit.
Adam W — Google review
We tried the halloumi avocado toast, but it wasn’t really our favorite as the halloumi was fried and a bit heavy. On the other hand, the garlic truffle mushroom dish was absolutely delicious! We also ordered a pot of tea, which was nice and comforting. The service was friendly and attentive, which made the overall experience enjoyable
SULAIMAN M — Google review
Lovely eatery, lovely staff and very tasty food. Only area I would suggest an improvement would the loo. Too small for comfort. But other than that would recommend for a flvourful lunch.
The S — Google review
Had I not checked on Google Maps, I'd have never even known this place was here. But after walking from Troutbeck to Ambleside, my mum and I had a look around a few shops, then decided to find somewhere that had gluten-free options. After browsing over a couple, we decided on the Copper Pot. When we arrived, we noticed a couple queueing for a table, which must be a good sign! It wasn't long at all, before we were seated and taking in our surroundings. The place is super cosy with the slate interior wall, the lighting, the music and general atmosphere, all which made for an amazing experience. There was a fab selection of cakes available, including chocolate stout cake, coconut, carrot and pineapple cake, a peanut butter cake and a few others, along with some gluten free options including courgette and avocado cake and orange and almond cake, both which looked amazing! The drinks we had were awesome, especially my hot chocolate whereby I could choose my preferred cocoa strength. My mum decided on the courgette and avocado cake (don't know it until you try it), while I chose the coconut, carrot and pineapple cake. Quite a combination of flavours, but they worked very well! I could certainly taste the coconut, along with hints of pineapple. Super moist and delicious from the first bite, right to the very last! I also loved the cutlery we got, which were spades as spoons! Altogether, this came to a little over £16 which I think is fantastic value for money. The service was also great, and the young lady who served us was very pleasant from start to finish. We will, without a doubt, certainly be coming back here when we next visit Ambleside. Well worth a visit!!!!

I ordered veg breakfast, waffles and biscoff brownie. I must say all of them were fab. I havent had a tastier veg breakfast in last 15 years in London. A must try if you are in Ambleside.

Lovely staff, great selection on the menu and the food and coffee were delicious and well presented. My wife and I both had the waffles with bacon & maple syrup and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend this café.

More? The Artisan bakery is an award-winning cafe and coffee shop located in Staveley, a little off the beaten path but well worth the visit. It's a popular spot for locals, dog walkers, and visitors to the Lake District. The menu offers a wide variety of options including delicious breakfast items like Cumberland sausage in milk bread rolls and katsu chicken wraps. The bakery is also known for its freshly baked goods which make for perfect hill walking snacks or post-hike meals.
Lovely pit stop for breakfast on my way into a the Lakes for work. I had the vegetarian muffin and it was insanely tasty. Please note…The parking is super expensive at £5.50 for the minimum amount of time. More? don’t set this price though. I can see why this is needed on weekdays maybe but the whole place was empty on a Saturday morning. Maybe worth the parking outside the business park.
Adam L — Google review
I wish I had found this bakery earlier. Very friendly staff, great coffee and amazing bakes. If I had discovered it before we left The Lakes, I would have definitely gone back for some food. From what I saw other customers eating it looked outstanding. I had the Sticky Ginger Nicky slice. Amazing flavour and texture. Would highly recommend.
James F — Google review
Great space in a small village location. Had a sausage roll, packed full of filling , tasty and perfectly seasoned. I didn't buy the bread but it looked absolutely amazing. Coffee was great and the friendly 🐦‍⬛ made the experience even more enjoyable.
Andy B — Google review
Nice little cafe that serves delicious food and offers something different from the normal cafe menus. Had a pistachio cinnamon bun which was delicious!
Mairi C — Google review
What's not to love here. Stunning quality and flavours. On the higher end price wise. But worth it ! Great coffee, dog friendly and even slice your sour Dough.
Natalie M — Google review
We came here to buy some of the excellent bread (try the seaweed sourdough). We stayed for lunch, and it was excellent. They are busy, but we didn't have a problem finding a table. The food rates more than 5 stars. However, let them know if you don't like black pepper, as they are very generous with it.
Evan L — Google review
The More Bakery serves really good burgers, and I’m also a big fan of their coffee beans, such an impressive collection with unique and interesting flavors. The service and ambience are decent, and there’s plenty of parking available near the shop itself.

We went to More? on the last morning of our break up in Cumbria. I wish we had visited on the first day of the holiday as I am pretty sure that we would have visited all five days! The best porridge I have ever had. This bakery is all about quality and they deserve all of the great reviews. Fab team members who were polite and efficient. A gem of a bakery with great coffee too!

The Lingholm Kitchen is a charming cafe located on the picturesque western shore of Derwent Water, offering breathtaking views of Skiddaw and the surrounding landscape. Emphasizing a 'Cumbria first' policy, the menu features seasonal delights sourced from local farms and producers, as well as delectable baked goods made on-site.
Beautiful place!! The food was brilliant, vegetarian options and gluten free - the server also checked what was safe for coeliacs for my bf. The staff were all so friendly and polite. We took home a lovely gf cake too which was fab. The surroundings are lovely with a garden - it’s a must visit. Parking is £5 but you get a £4 voucher back to spend in the cafe, so really it’s only £1.

After hiking Catbells, we stopped here — a modern, spotless building accented with pretty wildflower touches. The staff were warm and welcoming. While waiting for our food, I wandered into the garden and was delighted to find the story of Beatrix Potter’s stay in Derwent, displayed alongside beautiful plantings. The garden seems to focus on native species, with roses, hydrangeas, and lavender adding color and texture. The food was delicious, and my salad in particular stood out — fresh, healthy, and full of vibrant flavors. After lunch, we browsed the small shop, which is thoughtfully curated with books and souvenirs about the local area, nature, outdoor adventures, and of course, Beatrix Potter. There’s also an adorable selection of toys and books for children. Dog friendly too!
Serena L — Google review
What a lovely country spot ! Would have loved to walk around a bit more but was restricted by my pooch at hand who is not the best in doggy crowds. So based on this: Great venue and food. I had the salmon eggs hollandaise that was great. Would have preferred thin sliced smoked salmon laid in whispers over the eggs as a delicate balance to the dish but not overpowering. Service was great with a good vibe all round.
Grant G — Google review
Lingholm Kitchen is a must visit if in the area, often very busy & unfortunately don’t take bookings. However, if you get in early enough or manage to get a table, it’s so worth it. The food is delicious, the area is lovely and the views are great.
David B — Google review
Found this place accidentally but what a gem. You pay £5 to park but get a voucher for £4 to use in the cafe. It’s a beautiful walk up to the cafe, the staff were very friendly & we had the best egg custard tart ever.
Tina M — Google review
We called in for an early lunch. The cafe is immaculate and really well run. With a lovely view over the walled garden you can't help be impressed. The food was excellent and the customer service was first rate.
Dave T — Google review
What a beautiful place, in the woods as you walk the trail round Derwentwater, keswick, we sat on the terrace over looking the walled garden, food excellent quality, great atmosphere, staff really helpful, you must visit.
Michelle D — Google review
Stopped here for lunch during a long walk. There was quite a long queue outside so we had to wait for a table, but the staff were clearly doing everything possible to seat people as soon as possible. Very nice big light space and the menu was good with varied dishes to suit everyone. I had the Venison burger which was really nice. Big and juicy with a lovely flavour and a fresh bun. Came with chunky chips that were almost like potato wedges. Big and thick but cooked perfectly and were really really tasty. My wife had a cheese scone with butter which was amazing. Good size, very cheesy and didn't fall apart while eating it. We took a piece of the caramel and apple cake home for later, and that was also really lovely. The staff were all very pleasant (even though they had been non stop busy all day) and we will definitely eat here again in the future.

The Apple Pie Cafe and Bakery is a family-run store with delicious baked goods that are popular for takeaways or to enjoy inside the cozy cafe. They have a wide selection of drinks, soups, sandwiches, pies and much more. They offer vegan and vegetarian options for breakfast and lunch as well as a nice covered outside area for warmer days.
We visited here as we were passing through Ambleside and we were so pleased we did! The service was incredible - such friendly, happy staff who are willing to take their time with you. The apple pie was always going to be good but wow, it was AMAZING! I wish I’d had room for a couple more! We also had a brunch butty and a cheese and potato pasty - both of which were delicious! Plenty of seating and the queue moves quickly. Toilets are so clean too - always a big plus!
Helen W — Google review
We had a fabulous experience at The Apple Pie Cafe. Firstly, we bought a portion of Bath Bun & a large custard pie from the bakery. Then we went to the cafe , where the staff were friendly & engaging. The food they brought out was faultless. The pastry on the pasty just melted & the ingredients tasted moist & tender. The salads were fresh, crisp & juicy. The apple pie sundae was excellent, with fresh cream, mixed spice & sultanas. We really enjoyed our experience there.
Malcolm H — Google review
Absolutely chucked it down so we were looking for a bit of shelter. There was a bit of a queue outside this place so we thought it must be good, we only had to wait a few minutes and were then offered a table outside under one of the heated pergolas. It was a great atmosphere despite the rain and the lunch and service were top class. We took some treats away with us and there was loads to choose from Plumbread to Rocky Road. Definitely worth a visit!
Dan C — Google review
After seeing the reviews we mainly went for the bakery or we thought we were gonna go for the bakery but on arrival we found out they also got a restaurant. The menu was really good and they had a lot of options so we ended up ordering quite a few things of menu . As plenty of review suggested that we should go for the apple pie which we did and to say the least we weren’t disappointed. It was really nice chill atmosphere and the service was really good. Food was on the table on time. We didn’t have to wait that long. The orange juice was fresh and very tasty, better than your shop bought. I went for the spiced apple pie with custard and it was banging !!
Tanmeet K — Google review
Stopped for breakfast. The vegan breakfast option(s?l were limited, but what I had, the masala beans was excellent. It was nice to find a vegan dish that didn't feel like an afterthought (Eg, No dodgy vegan sausages!). Perfect breakfast setting me up for the days walk. Thank you.
Dan D — Google review
Had a nice lunch and drink here! Very nice ciabatta, sausage roll and special orange hot choc! Plenty of seating. Toilet facilities are ok except they are up a thin flight of stairs which isn't very accessible
Lauren F — Google review
Staff brilliant. Breakfast poor and expensive considering it dosent even come with bacon. The sausage was burnt on one side and the other side was anemic as for the poached eggs. All 4 were hard and dry. This is the second time I've eaten here and this time unfortunately will be my last. On a positive note the actual shop food is fantastic.
Franny R — Google review
Great bakery selling delicious cakes and pastries etc, so I had to buy a few items including a plain apple pie (they also do spiced). You can buy slices if you prefer. We then went to the cafe which is next door and had lunch. Great selection of baguettes, wraps etc. I finished it off with a generous slice of apple pie with custard (ice cream and cream options also available). Friendly staff, clean tables, prompt service. Definitely worth a visit. Large car park nearby.

Whether you're in the mood for sweet pastries or savory classics like bacon sandwiches and Eggs Benny, this cafe has got you covered. Since its opening in 2015, it has become a go-to destination for locals and visitors alike, known for its all-day brunch menu with American influences.
Oh excellent food! Each & every dish we ordered was made to perfection. The tase was par excellence. Cheese was too good and the breads were freshly baked. Food had soul. The owners were very warm, the place is very nice. It's a small cafe but wonderful food. One of the best in Windermere.

Homeground Coffee is a must try! We couldn’t resist their cake selection, all the cakes were beyond exceptional. As for their coffee, it has a perfectly strong taste. The cafe has a great location, right in the middle of the city center. I will definitely be returning!
Jaber M — Google review
I had one of the best cakes at this café. The brunch was amazing too — especially the avocado and eggs. The staff are lovely, and the place has such a warm and welcoming vibe. Just keep in mind that many people love this spot, so there’s usually a queue of at least 15 minutes, especially on weekends! 🍰✨
EliInspire — Google review
An insanely good breakfast and brunch cafe in Windermere! Just a few minutes walk from the train station, this is the best brunch me and my girlfriend had on our Lake District trip. So much so that we had breakfast here 3 times in a row! The chef must use some sort of magic to make the food so flavorful! A must visit for bread lovers!
Chris — Google review
Amazing brunch/lunch Best bacon waffles I’ve had- the brûlée banana & the crispy bacon were outstanding Partner’s eggs royale were also great! Waited around 10 minutes outside for a table but was well worth it. Would happy return next time we’re in the area.
M A — Google review
This is probably the local fav among all cafes in Windermere, coz that queue is all day long. Takes time to get in, but the food is top notch. Service is slow. The avocado toast with eggs and coffee were both good. But the banana bread and hash browns were the real stars, truly delightful. We had the cute seating by the window and enjoyed the views too. Takes time to get a table and to get the food, so go when you have time to spare!
Shefali S — Google review
Absolutely loved this place! The food was both delicious and creative. I highly recommend the Benedict eggs — the roasted vegetables on the side were perfectly crisp and full of flavor. Another must-try is the Homeground Sarnie — the pan-fried mashed potatoes inside were amazing! Paired with creamy avocado mash and a touch of plum sauce, it was rich yet perfectly balanced and not greasy at all. The environment was also clean and cozy, making the whole experience even better. I’d definitely come back again — highly recommended!

Me and my partner had decided to have lunch here after a long hike. They were incredibly busy so we had to wait for a table but our server was really clear and polite about this. After waiting the food and coffees came out quickly. We ordered a breakfast bap and the salmon toast. The salmon toast was incredible, tangy and rich. Particularly loved the smoked filleted salmon - incredible! And my partner highly rated his bap. We shared a blondie for dessert, which unfortunately was too sweet. Regardless nice atmosphere, nice service and incredible food. Highly reccomend.

This place was recommended by a local, and can honestly say it lived up to his recommendation. Staff were super friendly and made a great fuss of us and our dog. Great menu and good choice of tea’s and coffees.

Popped in Kendal while on route to the Lake District by local recommendation. As we wanted a dog friendly venue. food was amazing staff very polite and attentive. Great atmosphere. Allergy compliant as one of the party had an egg allergy and the other was gluten intolerant both had great food and the staff was very aware of allergy requirements. Water bowl supplied for our dogs as well. Very good menus for vegetarians and people with allergy’s.

We had an oreo and biscoff milkshakes and they were really good! £5 each but come in cool mason jars. Staff very overworked but were very friendly and service was efficient. I like the Sharing Tables, good idea. Prices are good, a bit more but it is a lovely cafe and I’d definitely return and get food this time! I actually really love the having to wait to be a seated. NOTHING is more stressful than having to find your own table, so this is actually so much easier and far less stressful, especially for anxious people (like me) who gets easily overwhelmed in new cafes. It is also dog friendly and there is a table outside

Just been here for breakfast with my family of 4 + dog and the food was amazing. Fast service and the place was lovely. Paid £50 for 4 breakfasts, 5 drinks and some sausage for the dog. 100% would recommend this place to anyone near with their furry friends.

We went for breakfast whilst on holiday in the area. Staff were very friendly and helpful and service was very fast. The food was good, but the bacon seemed oily which is not my preference. Portions were generous. Atmosphere was great, seating areas are lovely.

The Giggling Goose Cafe is a charming family-friendly spot located in North Rd, Ambleside LA22 9DT, UK. Situated by the Old Water Mill and overlooking the river, it offers a delightful setting for visitors to enjoy freshly prepared food and drinks. The cafe's menu features a variety of options including sandwiches, salads, pastries, as well as hot and cold beverages like coffee and tea.
The cake was great and the staff are happy and pleasant. The cafe is located centrally within Ambleside. There are steps to all entrances, however if you head in from the top of the hill there are only 2 steps as opposed to 2 full flights of stairs in from the high street. Very nice medium flowing stream by the outside seating.

Lovely helpful staff who showed us to a table in the large outside garden. Service was leisurely but they were busy and we were not in a hurry. Very good sandwiches with a great side salad in a little bowl and tasty coleslaw. Good value for a tourist hot spot. Felt very safe and a nice place to relax after a long walk.

Worth a visit for cream tea when in Ambleside. It's right next to a bubbling brook, and has a water mill (it was being repaired when I visited). Service was friendly and quick, and there's a great selection of cakes. It's got a casual but cosy atmosphere, and feels like a really relaxed place. It has Destin outside for the warmer months too.
Christian P — Google review
A lovely little café, there were plenty of seating options (outside in the shade or not, or a quieter corner table inside or larger low table. Staff were excellent and very welcoming, would have loved to have had a cake as they looked fantastic but we were still full from our lunches earlier! They also have a dog wall of fame, absolutely wonderful (see photo!)

Really enjoyed my time in the Giggling Goose Cafe. Lovely food and very friendly staff. Fantastic location by the river makes the place even more attractive. It is a shame about very run down outdoor sitting area and overgrown, weedy garden.

I loved the location of the cafe, it was great to hear the stream of water and sip on coffee. The staff is very friendly and the food is good too. It’s a nice place with a view to stretch your legs and relax

AVOID! I have never experienced such rude staff! Walked up the path and stood outside of the café door waiting for my wife before heading in for coffee and a snack when this member of staff marched up to me and demanded rudely, "can I help you?". I answered no thanks, and that i was waiting for my wife. His reply startled me........"well you can't wait here, it's private property!". I looked around and saw there was nobody else there. I simply pointed out that they might want to alter their approach as people clearly had to pass over their "private property" in order to get to the café door. The fact the everyone else was avoiding it told me I wasn't the first to encounter such rudeness....and I can see there are other reviews stating such. TOP TIP: go to Apple Pie Café & Bakery....far, far better! Great staff, great coffee, great freshly made snacks & pies!
Andy M — Google review
Paid £6.25 for a cold "vegan sausage" sandwich, made with the kind of sausage that is just vegetable and mush. The bread disintegrated on contact. One of the worst cafés i have been to in a long time.

Nestled between the Theatre by The Lake and Derwentwater, Lakeside Cafe Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with stunning views of the lake and mountains. Whether it's a light pre-theatre supper, a leisurely lunch before boarding the Keswick Launch, or coffee and cake after exploring Derwentwater, this airy restaurant is an ideal choice. The menu features superb burgers, garlic mushrooms on ciabatta, homemade chicken and mushroom pie, and indulgent cakes.
We stopped by Lakeside Café after a boat trip on Derwentwater, and it was the perfect place to warm up and recharge. The hot chocolates were absolutely delicious – rich, creamy, and topped with a generous swirl of whipped cream and cocoa. The café has a lovely, airy atmosphere with big windows overlooking the greenery – ideal for relaxing after a day out on the water. Friendly staff and a great selection of drinks and cakes. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the lake – especially if you’re in need of a cosy treat!

The food is very good quality, staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is pleasant. It's very much worth the money here and I intend to go back. The pictures include an ube & lavender latte, and a biscoff latte - both 10/10.

Tasty food and good location. This restaurant is very close to the lake and a convenient place to eat if you plan on going out on a boat on Derwent Water. We ordered from the breakfast menu and it was tasty. The croissants were good. I did not like my coffee but everyone else thought theirs were fine. The indoor decor is nothing special but when you sit outside you can see the lake and the boats. We came on a weekday morning (not school holidays) and there were plenty of available tables at this time. Toilets were decent.

I had to give this a 1- Star, the service was friendly and the place is well situated, however... We bought 3 hot chocolates, 2 with cream and marshmallows and it cost us over £17!!.. okay but they were the most underwhelming I've ever tasted... it was just brown water with no flavour.... this needs to be reviewed as im sure they're popular for the location and time and the price was EXTORTIONATE for the lack of flavour.

Modern British restaurant
Nestled within the picturesque Gilpin Hotel, HRiSHi by Head Chef Hrishikesh Desais offers a fusion of local ingredients and modern British cuisine with an Asian twist. The restaurant holds a Michelin star and is known for its 'Very Cumbrian Afternoon Tea' served in a cozy lounge or on the patio. Additionally, Gilpin Spice, also located at the hotel, presents pan-Asian tapas-style dining with an open kitchen.
Everything about it was perfect. From being greeted upon arrival, to drinks in the bar before the meal to wonderful food and service. Every course of the tasting menu was beautiful and complimented each other. To service was impeccable and we were made to feel special.
Michael C — Google review
Excellent experience at Hrishi during a weekend getaway. The food was delightful and the cocktails were also delicious. In addition to what one would expect from a Michelin starred kitchen, the menu was expertly personalised to accommodate an allergy, so that we could enjoy as much of the menu we wanted as possible.
Xyzpiggywigsxyz — Google review
Had the fab tasting menu with wine pairing - excellent! (And we had a veggie, a pescitarian, someone who doesn't like scallops and a meat eater), every course and wine pairing was delicious for all of us. A little bit more attention to detail needed (lots of empty glasses and 2 large water jugs left on the table, the table wasn't cleaned after the beautiful but crumbly bread - crumbs everehere and the side plates weren't taken away) making the table feel a bit crowded.
Louise A — Google review
Absolutely incredible experience enjoying the taster menu this evening @ HRiSHi @ Gilpin. Staff were incredible without ever being too formal. The venue itself has relaxed, classical feel. Fantastically balanced menu, and never felt like it dragged on too long like some restaurants offering taster menus.
Andrew R — Google review
Absolutely stunning restaurant within the Gilpin Hotel. Fully deserving of all the accolades it has received. The setting (especially at Christmas) is beautiful, the staff are superb, and the food is truly outstanding. My wife and I had the a la carte menu, which comes complete with canapés on our first night, followed by the tasting menu on the second night (my photos are of the tasting menu, apologies if they are a little dark, but it would have been rude to use the flash)! Suffice to say the food was absolutely exquisite and beautifully presented, the staff were knowledgeable about the dishes being served, and were professional and attentive whilst remaining discreetly in the background. All in all a truly magnificent dining experience which I cannot rate highly enough. Noone could possibly be disappointed eating here.

One of the top 3 dinning experience I've ever had so far. The services and quality of food are just outstanding. Chef is really good at spice, pepper and chilli. It is an gem in the Lake District.

The afternoon tea was amazing, we sat in the lounge, right next to the fire which was lovely. Very comfy. The staff were incredibly friendly and happily got plenty of refills of tea and coffee throughout. The food itself was exquisite, one of the best afternoon teas we have had, had a lovely unique style to it. Would go again 😍
Josh B — Google review
There have been so many versions of Great British menu I have actually stopped watching it. Apparently head chef Hrishi Desai used either all or some of this menu for his GBM entry. We actually came across the Gilpin hotel and Hrishi restaurant on the way back from a meal at L'enclume nearly a year ago and added it to the bucket list for next time we were up north. The food was fabulous. The staff friendly and helpful. The canapes and the waiting area comfortable and the hotel surroundings and car park immaculate. If they could improve anything, based on our other recent Michelin visits, they could definitely improve the mystery and presentation of the menus from a grey large A4 book, add some Nappa valley and Australia pinots and/or some more organic varieties to the extremely extensive wine list and definitely make a bit more spectacle of the coffee and tea course. I haven't posted photos of everything we had as don't want to spoil it if you are going. This is an extremely special occasion restaurant and if you have experienced Michelin dining before you will find the courses display a strong personality and certain moreishness to match the expected finesse and technical skill. Delighted with the Cumbria restaurant scene and will be back.

Nestled in the charming town of Cockermouth, The Coffee Kitchen Bakery has been delighting locals and visitors alike since its inception in 2011. Initially known for its specialty coffees and homemade cakes, the bakery expanded in 2015 to offer an even broader selection of freshly baked breads. With a commitment to quality, they use locally milled flour and avoid harmful additives, ensuring that every bite is wholesome and delicious.
The best place to buy bread & treats & the sandwiches are fantastic. The staff are always very welcoming & friendly. I never experience IBS flare ups after eating anything from here which usually happens with regular bakery products but the ingredients used here aren't full of rubbish so I'd highly recommend this delicious bakery.

Nestled in the charming village of Melmerby, just a stone's throw from notable landmarks like Melmerby Hall and Stag Cottage, The Old Village Bakery is a delightful spot that beckons both locals and travelers. Open every day, this inviting café offers an array of scrumptious breakfasts and lunches alongside aromatic coffees, all complemented by their signature homemade bread and cakes. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming, making it the perfect place to relax after exploring the picturesque surroundings.
A quick visit for breakfast. All food was tasty and well presented. Coffee was very good. We were surprised that Warburtons bread was used for the toast instead of the bread sold in the shop area. We bought some of the delicious cakes and scones to take home too. Recommended.

I heard about this wonderful little place from a local cumbrian gentlemen. My taught, initially was to have a scone with tea, but unfortunately for me the scones were sold out. I'm not surprised because they really are that good from what I hear. Moving on, instead of sulking about having missed the scones, I decided to have a lemon drizzle cake, with a cup of tea, but of course. Chloe, she is a fine lady, who attended to my request and brought my goodies to the table in the conservatory. I took the opportunity to ask if she could kindly take a picture of me having the lovely experience of devouring my cake with my strong builders tea. I feel that Chloe attends to customers with a lovely smile which brightens up ones spirits and makes it easier for one to feel at ease. This is important for me so that I can enjoy the pleasure of having a meal, snacks and drinks in a friendly environment. I rate this lovely little spot a good five stars and look forward to go back soon.

What a lovely place. I've often thought about stopping here many times on my motorcycle trips but sadly just rode past. I was out with a friend on a ride out this time & decided to stop for a Coffee break. Again, What a lovely place. It's spotlessly clean a great variety of food & some amazing Cakes & Scones. Plenty of tables inside & out. We sat out in the sun at the tables & chairs in the garden area. The Staff were friendly & welcoming on our arrival which always makes a difference & a nice atmosphere. I will definitely be going back for a Coffee & Cake next time I'm out for a ride 🏍️👍 I would definitely recommend going there to anyone passing.

Lovely place to stop after a long day out on the motorbike. The food was fantastic and the staff were really friendly. There was a thirty minute wait for hot food because it was quite busy when we arrived .But our cold food came out quickly so wasn't a problem.Seating inside and out and quite a few crafts and produce you can buy for gifts inside .Well worth a visit if your in the area!!!
Jane W — Google review
This was a recommendation, and it didn't disappoint. I took my mother and daughter for a snacket and a cuppa. I had been told about the Corned Beef Pie, which I confess I will have to go back for now that I know the portion size!!! So I opted for the cheese scone, which was delicious and so crumbly fresh, with a lovely Earl Grey. My daughter opted for a slice of the most fabulous Blueberry & Lemon cake, of which I had a sample. Breakfasts and lunches were available. Those we saw looked of very good quality and generous portions. There was a good selection of drinks available too. You could take away or have table service (or both, should the need arise as it did for me with the most amazing Brownie for the following days breakfast). There was ample seating indoors and out to choose from. It was clean and fresh, and the tempting aromas were tantalising. The staff were friendly and helpful, not to mention patience whilst we tried to decide what to have. The facilities were well presented, accessible, and clean. You can also pick up gifts of which there was a fabulous range, greetings cards, daily essentials, treats, fresh bread, and local produce. Perfect if you're staying nearby or passing through and don't want the hassle of finding a larger store or supermarket some miles away. We loved our treat, and I will definitely be going back to sample the pie!!! So I made it back to try the Corned Beef Pie and was not disappointed. I chose a side of sweet potato fries, which were cooked to perfection. That was me literally fed for the day.

Lovely little spot, not just a local shop for local people although lots of precious things to buy here. Terrific fresh bread. Great chocolate products, lots of great things for the home as well as preserves that I'm very much looking forward to trying out! See pictures for the range of products, also an upstairs clothes shop, great for the wanderers out there. Honestly nothing like this shop for miles around, so worth a visit if you're in the Melmerby or surrounding area. Great!

Delicious food and very good coffee. Opens at 9am and always very busy. Cakes and bakes looked excellent. Good value and quick service from this busy cafe. A good selection of food and drinks. Plenty of tables, but this does get busy especially around lunchtime. Staff were efficient and had the food to the table quickly. The cafe is also dog friendly, so handy to grab a bite to eat here after a days walking. The menu was a little restricted and I was disappointed to find that you couldn't order many options without mayo as things are premade. The food we ate was nice, the scone was tasty with lemony hints which was unusual. Great selection of other sweet treats too. Good location for those visiting the area.

Our server was rude and banished us to the benches in the car park as we had a dog and "they had no dog tables" we weren't allowed to sit at the tables outside the doors on the raised patio.. and to top it off they charge an additional 50p to make a coffee decaff?! Pregnant Ladies im afraid they're gonna take advantage of you with this... I work in hospitality and understand the current climate is challenging however doesnt excuse the attitude of the staff (need to be educated on wearing a face mask, they don't do anything if staff are wearing them under their nose) and the extra charge for a different type of coffee that will no doubt be the same price bought in as the caffinated. What a joke

Just stopped in for lunch. The cream tea was great with a lovely fresh scone and cream. I had the chorizo, cheddar and jalapeño toasty with cold crisp salad and slaw. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Staff were friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Only good things to report! The cafe has disabled access but the toilet is down a couple of steps. I didn't see a designated disabled toilet.

Looks nice, but disappointing selection of cakes and the ones we had were dry. Fruit scone was warmed before serving, presumably to soften it - it didn't work. Wide selection of coffee's but no skimmed milk. View out the window was mainly of the carpark. Overall we thought it was overpriced for the quality of what was served.

Arrived mid afternoon so not too busy. The three of us were hungry and after a snack. The sandwich menu was great with a good selection. We opted for the bacon, brie and cranberry on honey seeded bread. With a variety of drinks, the fentons apple and rhubarb is like an apple crumble in a bottle. The sandwiches arrived fairly quickly, well presented with coleslaw, crisps and salad. Really tasty brie, well cooked bacon and fantastic bread. The food was tasty and not too expensive, worth the money. Great decor and a relaxing atmosphere. Great place for a snack.

A diamond of a coffee shop and art studio and workshop! The coffee is absolutely great, we had a couple of flat whites and the aroma and crema were exactly what are supposed to be on a flat white. Besides the superb coffee, the place looks amazing, the atmosphere is sublime, with low volume music on the background. The place looks new and is made out of natural materials with exposed huge wood beams, stone walls, and above everything else this place is filled with a lot of beautiful pieces of art, we felt really peaceful and enjoyed what experience they offer. If you are a coffee lover, art lover, craft lover, architecture lover, natural materials lover and nature lover, please try and visit them, you won’t regret. It is by far the best coffee around this area.

Bakery
Nestled in the heart of Lancaster on King Street, Filbert's Bakery has become a beloved spot for both locals and visitors since its opening in July 2013. This charming bakery boasts an impressive array of specialty breads, including unique flavors like roast potato, roasted pumpkin seed, and chilli cheese. They also cater to diverse dietary needs with gluten-free options and occasionally offer vegan treats such as their renowned mushroom pasty.
Filbert’s bakery was recommended by our friends, a French-Norwegian couple who would cycle 20miles (35kilometres) for its bread. Open from Wednesday to Saturday (check Google for store timings) we were told that they sell out most days by afternoon. Intrigued by the quest for good bread, we added this to our Lancaster trip checklist and crossed it off the moment we reached the town and immediately realised why they sell out so quickly. The spiced Fruit bread and the Fig & fennel are among the finest breads we have had. The Cinnamon bun & Morecambe bun were flavourful as well. The overnight white is a normal bread but the croissant is flaky and just how its supposed to be. The quiche at the counter is worth a try as well. As obvious, we ransacked the bakery and bought a lot of bread, till our hands were full. The breads can be frozen and they stay long. It can be a challenge & a workout in a way slicing the sourdough bread and fig & fennel bread once they are hard, but they do make excellent eggy bread/French toast/pain perdu. Filbert’s is worth the miles and a good enough reason to change one’s itinerary and plan a trip to Lancaster on a Friday-Saturday rather than Sunday-Tuesday.

Lovely people, so friendly. Make delicious bread and pastries. I absolutely love their olive bread. I could nom the whole loaf in a few minutes... Just got some delicious olive bread, warm from the oven. Got there just after 11. So tasty. Tempted to eat it all on the walk back. (14/04/21) Got some different breads as well yesterday. Olive twist with goat's cheese and a flatbread with sundried tomatoes and goat's cheese. Very scrumptious (21/04/21) Got two slices of delicious, moist Lemon and Coconut cake. Lovely with a nice cup of tea (16/10/21)

Visited Lancaster for the day and as we were leaving we literally followed our nose to this beautiful bakery. We picked up the Overnight Loaf and Chilli Cheese Loaf and struggled to not tear into them on the way home! Absolutely delicious both of them. We might just make a trip back up to Lancaster for bread! Thank you to the last behind the till for being wonderfully kind and bagging up the loaves especially.

smells great, a working bakery, entering the store immediately relieved stress. ordered a chickpea pastie, a mushroom pastie and peanut butter blondie. Oh my, as a confused and lost West Country lad I'm glad i found this place. The pasties were confused, lost (in a good way) and absolutely gorgeous.

Filbert's is a very lovely bakery with bread just as wonderful as all those who work there. I would especially recommend the Overnight White; for the past two years I've been buying it, it's never once disappointed me. If you can get there before they run out, cinnamon rolls on Saturdays are brilliant as well.

1 STAR FOR GLUTEN FREE 5 STARS FOR EVERYTHING ELSE I’ve recently had to go gluten free, but couldn’t imagine life without Filberts. Unfortunately their gf loaf is pretty awful: - Impossible to cut without it crumbling to pieces - Bits of grease proof paper cooked into the side - Horrible floury flavour I don’t think the bread should be sold until the recipe is amended. If that’s not possible, don’t charge a stonking £4.95 for a small ! I would ask for a refund if it wasn’t an independent business.

Yonder is a charming café located near the main square in Keswick. It offers a delightful selection of Red Bank coffee, exquisite hot chocolate made with single-origin Bare Bones Chocolate, refreshing smoothies, locally baked cakes, and seasonal specials like salads, soups, and quiches. The café exudes relaxed vibes and provides an excellent spot for people-watching. Visitors praise the friendly staff and high-quality coffee.
Probably the best cafe in the UK! The food the staff and the service all amazing! I’ve never had a bad time here and I’m sure you won’t either.

Such a treat on a rainy day – the oat milk flat whites were smooth, creamy, and perfectly made. The warmed cinnamon bun was soft, gooey in the middle, and full of flavour. Relaxed atmosphere - will definitely be back.

Stopped by Yonder on a rare sunny day in Keswick – and guess what, the coffee’s actually brilliant. Proper flat white, good beans, and staff who are genuinely lovely (and not in that “have a nice day!” corporate way). The place looks great too – stylish, but still feels like humans built it. Prices are reasonable, coffee’s spot on, and for once you don’t leave thinking you’ve just been mugged by a hipster with a milk frother. Absolute win. ☕🥇

I don’t normally leave reviews but I paid for a drink I couldn’t actually consume. Went into Yonder and was met with a weird atmosphere. Wasnt very welcoming. Turns out they were about to close but they didn’t turn us away. Ordered an iced matcha and what I got was genuinely undrinkable. It was just milk with lots of clumps of matcha at the bottom, I tried to stir the matcha powder in but it did not work. Every time I took a sip I just ended up with a mouthful of plain matcha powder that I had to chew. Felt and tasted like chewing raw coffee grounds. Other reviews seem to talk highly of the matcha which makes my experience more frustrating- perhaps I was just unlucky and they were too focused on getting the store closed. Definitely won’t be coming back again.

We got the focaccia sandwiches and the Acai bowl which were unbelievable. But the star of the show was the baked goods , especially the s’mores brownie!

We stopped here for a coffee after a walk with our 2 young dogs. I had tea and my husband had a flat white. Both of us had a sausage roll and we shared the orange and cinnamon cake. In hindsight we should have shared a sausage roll as they are large! The food was so tasty and my husband loved his coffee so had another. The young ladies serving were very pleasant & gave our dogs a treat each. Highly recommended.

This is without doubt the best bakery I have ever been to. The sourdough, service and pastries are perfect. It’s not ridiculously priced, excellent value for artisanal breads. Everything I’ve tried is absolutely delicious. Like a sweet shop for adults. Not an everyday kind of loaf - premium priced - the quality is very high though. Good luck not picking up a sweet treat while you’re there - cinnamon swirl is delish 👌 Loaf: £4.50 Cinnamon Swirl: £2.30

My favourite bakery in the country! I visit it every time I’m over. The couple who run it are lovely, and I’ve never had a single issue with the staff, they’ve all been great. My favourites are the cinnamon knots, the five grain tin and the whole meal ciabattas. They also make the shop looks so pretty stylistically with the decorations. Really makes it a whole experience buying from there (which is part of the enjoyment). Yes it’s expensive for bread, but you know you’re eating delicious bread that’s good for your gut and body! That’s more than you can say for 95% of bread these days!

Confectionery store
George Romney Ltd, known for its famous Kendal Mint Cake, has a rich history dating back to 1869 when a batch of glacier mint sweets went wrong during production. The sweet shop dedicated to this confection opened in 1914. By 1953, the Kendal Mint Cake had gained fame as it accompanied Sir Edmund Hillary and Sirdar Tenzing on their historic Mount Everest expedition. Visitors can purchase the renowned Kendal Mint Cake directly from the supplier warehouse at factory prices.
Oh wow!!! What a wonderful place to pop in to and select your Kendal Mint Cake treats. The lady in the office / shop was very welcoming and answered my questions. I didn't know there was a brown mint cake, until my visit. I am now a convert. Thank you for a great experience.

I had made a special trip to kendal today from Bolton to specifically purchase some Mint cake for my mums up coming birthday!! Was really happy with how I was dealt with by the lady there (sorry didn't get your name) She couldn't do enough to help me get exactly what I wanted for my mum, I ended up buying a gift box filled with all sorts of goodies and a cup. Was amazed at how reasonable the price was and would definitely recommend anyone that is paying a visit to Kendal to pop by and pick yourself a peace of Kendal history up to take home with you. Will definitely be coming back to Kendal in the future for some more mint cake for mum. 10/10 from me 👍 P.s the drive was worth the visit too.

Nichol Ends Cafe is a highly recommended spot, especially for its veggie breakfasts that are generously portioned with plenty of toast. The quality of the food is top-notch, with perfectly fried onions and mushrooms. After a long walk, visitors can enjoy freshly made coffee and homemade cakes while taking in lovely views of Derwentwater from the small outside area. The cafe is also known for its giant scones served with ample jam and cream, along with a generous pot of tea.
Fabulous giant and I mean giant scones with lots of lovely jam and cream! Huge pot of tea and a pot of hot water. It's amazing as some of the cafes in Keswick and surrounding areas are now only giving a mug of tea with food. Super friendly staff and beautiful setting on the water. The scones are so big I got to take more than half of mine home with the jam and cream I didn't finish in small pots. Can highly recommend.

Me and my mum nipped in one rainy Sunday afternoon whilst hiking around Derwent lake, and thought on the off chance we might see if their scones were gluten free. MY GOODNESS Not only were the scones epic in scale they were AMAZING. I’ve been gluten free for 16 years and my mum has been gluten free for over 30 years and we both agree they were the best gluten free scones we’ve ever had! Absolutely delicious, fluffy with excellent taste and texture and plenty of jam and cream!! Thank you very much for providing such delicious (and gluten free) food!

We were recommended this place by our b&b and we are extremely happy we ended up coming here. Thanks to the Chalets poor take on veggie breakfasts. We ordered two veggie breakfasts and tea. When they came out I couldn't wait to tuck in. They were two PROPER breakfasts, loads of toast as well, no skimping on that like some of the places do. Even though it was a large breakfast, the quality is still just as good as other places. The onions/mushrooms were fried to perfection. Sitting outside looking out is a great spot as well, enjoying the views of people having a go at kayaking and such. Anyway next time we are up these ways this is a definite for the list to come back to, maybe next time we will get to try some kayaking!

A café definitely worth visiting. Great selection of teas, coffee, food and sweet treats. The toasted sandwiches came with their own tomato and apple chutney which was great. Farrers Tea & Coffee House is a historic establishment that has been serving coffee and tea since 1819 from its charming 18th-century building on the high street. The interior features quirky elements like wonky ceilings and wooden staircases, creating a unique atmosphere reminiscent of Harry Potter. Guests can savor delicious baked goods and light meals for breakfast or lunch inside the cozy setting or opt for takeaway options.
Oh Gosh what a find ! Hot beverage professionals at the least. Based over a few floors is this concentrated mix of tables, chairs and decor. The entrance off the street hosts a bar type counter with tea and coffee on shelves either side and of course the sweet treats displayed at the counter- that I had booked (fresh almond cream croissant)…in case sold out before seating. After seating we ordered coffee, almond croissants, and bacon rolls. What a joy to eat good food and get great service. That’s all and by the way I highly recommend this treasure chest of food and beverages.

What a great find, a genuine old tea and coffee house, evidently a merchant’s house from way back. The shop with its enormous selection of teas and coffees is what you come in to first, with more gifts and merchandise up a few stairs out the back. Then if you’re lucky enough to get a table in the cafe, that’s up more stairs but well worth the climb for those of us who can make it. The building itself is a real feature, with creaking old patched together timber floors and timber beams. It meanders upwards for about three or four storeys. If only the building could speak, there would be tales to tell from over the centuries! We stopped for afternoon tea and had a selection of decaf tea, matcha, Americano coffee and hot chocolate with a couple of pastries from the display case in the shop. Best almond croissant ever, plump and soft with delicious filling. Heartily recommended for stocking up on teas and coffees and a repast to enliven the traveller! Find my travel books on Amazon - look for Apple Island Wife.

A Kendall must see. It's an amazing building that has been Farrers since c1819, and I reckon it's not changed much in that time. It's multi layered and not wheelchair suitable, but has outside seating. I'd recommend the coffee, particularly their #1 blend. The brownie was also excellent. A big shout out to the staff as well. Dog friendly to boot.

An old-worldy tea shop and cafe. Came here with family the place has character with its decor and origional features of the building giving at a wonky feel. Dogs are allowed in the upstairs seating areas. Although I was able to sit in with crutches there is space outside for those unable to manage the stairs. The food was delicious i had the sausage which was a proper Cumberland sausage. There is also a menu of their current specials with vegan options

If you're heading North up to Scotland or down South, & you are in need of a break & refreshment, then only 10 minutes of the M6, in the centre of Kendal, is this remarkable historical establishment. The choice of Coffee or Tea, is mind boggling! & The food is just Outstanding! The warm Treacle Toast, with butter & jam, OMG! Unbelievably good. I'd give this 6 venue stars if I could. Plus it's Dog friendly, too. ☺️

Found myself looking for refreshment in Kendal and will always prefer a tea room if I can find one. This one did not disappoint. Full of Olde Worlde charm (exposed wood beams etc) and everything you would expect from an authentic tea room experience. Staff super helpful and managed to find a table in spite of what was clearly a busy service. Menu was varied and interesting, and the order came to the table in good time (considering the previously mentioned busy service) I had the Cumberland sausage swirl in a bun, a round of sourdough toast with marmalade (couldn't decide so I had both), washed down with a cup of Earl Grey tea. All was absolutely delicious. The shop on the premises so that you could buy some of what you tried ( but sadly not the sausage) was a nice touch. Would definitely consider this a highlight of my Kendal visit and would return given the opportunity.

We visited Farrers Tea & Coffee House during our trip to the Lake District, and we had such a lovely experience. The place has a warm and cosy atmosphere, and the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming. A special thank you to Joe and Chloe for their exceptional service. Joe greeted us when we came in and made us feel instantly at ease, explaining the menu and helping us find suitable options. When we sat down, Chloe took our order and was so patient as we decided what to have. As a visibly Muslim couple, we really appreciated how considerate she was — she made sure our food was prepared carefully to avoid any contamination with pork or alcohol. It’s rare to come across such thoughtful and attentive service. The food was great, the coffee was lovely, and the experience overall was excellent. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the area!

We were unfamiliar with the area and so stumbled upon Thyme Out by accident, but I’m really pleased that we did. From the very warm reception and exceptional service from Lucy (I think?!), to the chef popping out to chat with us (she was lovely too!) and ask if we liked the food, everything was perfect! I love Greek food, and this was by far the best I’ve tasted, outside of Greece/Southern Cyprus. The menu provided an excellent choice without being overwhelming; I’m always a bit suspicious when there are too many options, and we could tell this was all freshly prepared. Nothing was too much trouble and Lucy was brilliant at suggesting substitutes for my partner so that he could still enjoy the meze. In fact, she was so knowledgeable, we left our choices to her! We were too full for dessert but we took the Baklava home, and oh my, was it delicious! We will definitely return when we are next in the Lakes; meanwhile, thank you very much ladies for a fabulous evening 🤗

Nestled in the heart of Keswick, The Cornish Pasty is a delightful takeaway shop that specializes in serving up authentic Cornish pasties. Having spent time near Cornwall during my studies, I can confidently say that this spot offers some of the best pasties I've ever tasted! They feature an impressive variety, including gluten-free options and unique flavors like Thai Red Chicken Curry.
Ok... So this was probably one of the best Cornish Pasties I've ever had, and I've had my fair few! I had the "Large Traditional Pasty" and my wife had the "Broccoli, sweetcorn and cheese pasty", we were both super impressed. They have a large selection of savory and sweet pasties which I've never seen before. So it looks like we'll have to pop in again before we leave Keswick. Card and cash available, cash is preferred. 100% recommend it!!

Called in here while in Keswick and tried 2 of the Cornish pasties with my friend. Very disappointed was more or less all potato and very dry like been reheated or there a long time. I went back in a made them aware to which she replied well they was made this morning!! Didn’t offer an exchange or refund so we ended up throwing them away. And at £4.70 each I’d say avoid at all cost poor food and rude woman behind the counter with black hair !!

Not very much lamb in my lamb and mint pasty. More potato than anything else. £4:30 for a potato pasty with a little lamb and carrot on side. Been coming here for years as I’m local, but we will be finding another pasty maker in Keswick. Shame! 😞

I live in Cornwall and regularly eat Cornish pasties, I would like to think that I know an excellent pasty when I taste one. Well the large Cornish pasty I had yesterday was as good as any I’ve ever eaten, it had plenty of meat, the correct veggies and a little hit of pepper. Excellent job well done!

Not sure if anyone else has been unwell over the bank holiday weekend. I purchased and consumed a barely warm chicken and chorizo pasty on Friday the 18th April. I was in a mega rush so didn't really think about it to much at the time. But once home later that evening I was severely unwell with D&V and I'm still not well right now days later. It was the only substantial food I had eaten that day. I should have been more careful eating barely warm chicken to be fair.

For the 2nd time they've given me the wrong pasty. Thank you so much for that. I don't eat meat so I'm wise enough to break open a pasty and not just bite it. Yesterday 27th August about 2pm I ordered my latest cheese pasty......I wanted three they said they only had one left. I took it gladly as they are very nice. Couple of hours later and many miles awayI discover its some spicy chicken pasty. How can you make mistakes like this? Some people actually have to avoid ingredients because of an allergy ...and many people do not eat meat ... when they ask for and pay a pretty high price for a cheese pasty that's what they should receive. I've had this experience once before from this very same shop. Wasted money and nothing to eat. And if its happened to me twice how many more people are being given the wrong food.
K. T — Google review
What a shame - the quality of the pasties has deteriorated. Try finding the meat in-between the potato.. it might take you until your 4th, 5th or 6th bite... Like a lot of things in this world, the price is going up and the quality is going down, so you feel double ripped off.

Amazing vegan food, great for a hearty lunch. Came on Sunday, so could only get the Sunday roast menu, but there were 5 different protein options and the size large was perfect. Also delicious desserts, particularly the ginger cake. Nice outdoor seating.

Such a cute little cafe and a joy to find fully vegan places to eat. We were amazed by the quality of food immediately ordering milkshakes when sitting down which were heavenly. I ordered the moving mountains burger which was cooked and presented beautifully, after trying someone else's Yorkshire pudding I immediately ordered just an entire plate of them with gravy they are the greatest things on the planet and I will return again just for the Yorkshire puddings. All homemade and I'd pay for the recipe. We left with some cakes (not pictured as they were devoured instantly). Would definitely recommend and we would be willing to travel all the way just to eat here.

Fantastic Sunday lunches. Just what we were after. The veg was fresh and not over-cooked at all. We had a Moroccan style rice roast, and the rosemary 'meat' slices. Both delicious. The cafe was busy but quick service. Another good reason to visit Keswick 🙂

Delicious vegan roast dinner, as well as great drinks, we had hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and a matcha latte, all perfect. Cute interior and really good service. It's a must if your a vegan visiting the lakes ☕🗻

Great service with a friendly team of staff and excellent and broad vegan menu! We loved the burgers, mac'n'cheeze, soup accompanied by some delicious smoothies and coffees! Had we not enjoyed the mains so much, we would have bought a slice of homemade cake which looked fab. We also noticed that Kat's has a selection of plant-based products to buy, such as cheeses, meat substitutes and chocolate.. in case you run out while you're away!

We had a lovely Sunday lunch here on a recent trip to Keswick. The Yorkshire puddings were especially well made, and Kat was kind enough to come and chat to me about how she made them, as I was very curious, having had plenty of problematic vegan Yorkies over the years. A charming cafe with tasty grub and friendly staff, what more could you ask for?

Most amazing vegan food I have ever had. The tofu was out of this world. Went twice in one day as I had to go back in the afternoon for coffee and cake 1000% recommend. The staff were lovely also

Had the Sunday Roast and it was amazing. Haven’t had a roast in link 8 years since going vegan and this was delicious. Had the rosemary and garlic “meat”. It was particularly good.

Their smoothies are delightful, and their tray bake is generously portioned for sharing. The majority of the staff are friendly and welcoming.
Fabulous experience, happy friendly staff. Great menu and quality food for all. Great vegi and vegan options. Also a lovely clean space with thoughtful touches for parents and pets. We left with full tummies and take away cakes. Would highly recommend.

The jacket potato was perfect. Sadly, there is no photo of my gluten-free lemon cake, but believe me, it was lemony and delicious.

Called here on a 7th June on a very, very wet Saturday on our way up to Keswick, absolute gem. My husband and I were soaking wet, two dripping dogs and we were welcomed inside regardless. "Never mind the drips " we were told, "they mop up". Lively breakfast and biscuits for the dogs, we were so relieved to be in out of the rain. Really friendly and very welcoming, thank you all.
Sue S — Google review
Came in to a busy cafe so expected good things, unfortunately its just the coffee which was good, can't say the same for food or service. A lady came to take our order and made it very clear she would only take our drinks order even though we knew our food options. A second waitress took our food order and she said they don't offer swaps when I requested to swap a mushroom for a tomato. Some establishments don't allow swaps which is fine, but when the lady on the table next to us ordered from the first waitress as we were leaving, she seemed to have no issue making changes to her order which was very frustrating. When the food arrived my mother had ordered the American pancakes with maple syrup and bacon. She received 1 piece of bacon across 3 pancakes which seems rather stingy. I had opted for the small vegetarian breakfast and was disappointed too, the hash brown was about half the size of the frozen ones you can buy in the supermarket and the tomato was mildly cooked and completely tasteless. It seems evident that nothing is made in the kitchen and the cheapest ingredients are used. My mother also believed the pancakes were shop bought. Given the poor quality of ingredients, the rest of the items were cooked (reasonably well) and they can poach an egg.

Best customer service we've ever received. Very attentive staff. They went out their way to welcome our dog providing water, a blanket and a biscuit. Really delicious food too! We'd recommend the pulled pork Yorkshire wrap and bacon brie panini.

Good food. Amazing service, one of the best service that we ever had. The staff were welcoming and attentive. Lovely seating area upstairs and outside. Great overall.

Great coffee and food in a really friendly environment. The breakfasts are really good in both quality and value. Could hardly be more dog friendly as they brought us water, a biscuit and a mat for our black Labrador to sit on. The toilets are clean and pleasant

Bakery
The Cornish Bakery is a charming spot known for its delicious pasties and friendly service. Visitors have praised the scrumptious food, with options like steak and Stilton or cheesy leek and ham pasties that are always served hot. The staff is described as incredibly friendly and efficient, creating a welcoming atmosphere. While some have noted the presence of wasps in the shop, they still recommend it for its lovely selection of pastries.
Great little bakery that always has unique offerings, such as my new favourite "Shakshuka croissants!". They are the perfect little vessel for this cheesy savoury delight. Great sustanence before you go up the hills! Bought 6 of them over a few days to give out to friends and partner who all loved them! Last years was spinach and omelette..another delight! Can't wait to see what they come up with next. Special thanks to Dawn for her great service and generosity 👍

A truly great little bakery in Ambleside. The cauliflower and onion bhaji pasties are delicious, as are the cherry and almond croissants. If you're feeling peckish, then pop in and grab some of their delicacies!
Peter B — Google review
The croissants are truly amazing and come in fun and creative flavors like pistachio, cherry-almond or even Shakshuka! Also the scones are very strong so I'd recommend grabbing a few pastries and then enjoy them throughout the day. Lovely service as well!
Milan W — Google review
I had the most lovely visit to the bakery this afternoon. The city was starting to quiet down as shops closed, so I rushed in hoping I could grab a quick decaf mocha before they too closed. So when I nervously asked “are you still open?” I was greeted with a warm smile and assurance that they were still open. I ordered my coffee, a small traditional hand pie, and a slice of carrot cake. The gentleman behind the counter (I’m sorry I forgot your name! Tall, dark hair) carefully packaged up my food, and took his time making my coffee. When I left the shop I took my first sip and was absolutely blown away by the flavor. It was quite possibly one of the best mochas I’ve ever had. And the food was just as good! The pie was warm and flaky, with just the right amount of stuffing. And the carrot cake had a lovely rich flavor and not too sweet. My hotel is nowhere near this shop, but I’m sorely tempted to go out of my way tomorrow to sample the rest of their baked goods!😅
Vanessa L — Google review
This is our favourite place for fresh pastries in the Lake District. The service is always friendly. The coffee is always tasty. Pastries are super fresh and made regularly throughout the day. I wish they will have more sitting space inside. If you are pastries fan this is your place. Great also for grab and go. I will definitely recommend. We are always coming there when we travelling around the Lake District and actually looking forward.
Eran — Google review
Very friendly welcoming service from the two ladies that were working here yesterday morning! Great that they open early! Me and my colleague were in Ambleside for a workshop, staying at the uni, who unfortunately don't offer catered accommodation... so we really appreciated the availability of fantastic coffee and pasties - and the price was very reasonable! Everything was clearly freshly baked on-site as we saw the pasties being taken out of the oven and brought into the front to be put on display...
John P — Google review
We visited here recently, going out of our way to sample the Cornish Pasties! They were very nice, however, if we had one recommendation it would be that they mixed the fillings together more as it was like we were eating two separate pasties in one (a veg and a meat) other than that we would still recommend. See picture.
Lianne W — Google review
Four of us were hoping for coffee and a light lunch and three people at the (only) table in the window, seeing we were looking for a table, said we could occupy their seats, as they had finished eating and were leaving. We had already been told there was no room upstairs. When we asked if an extra seat could be added, the waiter who came to clear the table, could not have been more unfriendly and unhelpful. He dismissed our polite request with a brusque refusal. We felt totally unwelcome, left and found the warmest of receptions and great service at the Apple Pie further down the road. Please to ensure sure that the serving staff are more familiar with the basic rules of hospitality and who are flexible-minded enough to offer reasonable solutions to seating when the place is full.

If you find yourself in Ambleside, The Picnic Box is a delightful spot to grab some hot and cold food options before or after your adventures in the stunning Lake District. Opening bright and early at 8:00 am, it’s an ideal place to pick up a tasty sandwich bag that will keep you energized as you explore the fells and lakes. This charming eatery offers freshly prepared meals at fair prices, making it a budget-friendly choice for travelers on the go.
I had been waiting for The Picnic Box to reopen following the refurbishment works and it was 100% worth the wait! The refurbishment works have transformed the shop into a great space and the quality of the sandwiches, cakes and drinks offered take it to the next level. The staff are really friendly and welcoming making it an even better experience. I had the pulled pork special and it was amazing, the perfect post run/walk sandwich. Cannot wait to go back!

I got the Red Pike Ciabatta, which was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. Decent portion size for the price. Nice friendly staff, will definitely be visiting again 😁

We saw this place on our way into town coming from Grasmere and thought it looked modern and cute at the same time. Today we had the pleasure of trying the ‘fell walker’ ciabatta sandwich and the ‘salty dog’ crisps and it is the best tuna melt/sandwich I’ve ever had. I’m very pleased it opens at 8 am as I shall be coming back on Friday before heading south! The service was also great, the lady in the counter and the lovely chef at the back were local, polite and very friendly :)! Hasta pronto chicos!

Marra is a stylishly renovated cafe and restaurant tucked away from the main thoroughfare, offering a perfect spot for a leisurely lunch or quick bite. The menu features freshly baked piadina, bruschetta, sourdough pizzas, al forno options like aubergine parmigiana, and salads. In addition to the inviting courtyard, the cozy atmosphere with a real fire adds to its charm. Visitors praise the friendly staff and recommend trying their delicious pizzas and piadinas.
Fabulous little hidden gem off the main street in Kendal. We're so happy we found Marra, the coffee was amazing and the pizzas were the best we've had in the UK for a long time. We're definitely going to be back! Staff were friendly, efficient and laid back. Great attitude from all of them, they're lovely. Takeaway cakes were delicious too!!
L B — Google review
Tucked away on the east side of Branthwaite Brow toward Kent Street and beside the jewellers, lies this hidden gem of an independent coffee shop—'Marra' which means friend in Northern dialect, the establishment is accessed through a charming ye-olde-worlde passageway. We had English breakfast tea, a slice of carrot cake, and a flat white—and everything was wonderful. What also made it special, was the setting. In the principal first-floor room, we marvelled at the exposed 16th-century roof timbers which had halved overlapping purlin members and a vernacular ridge arrangement and principal ridge beans—clearly assembled from reused timbers spanning different centuries. A real treat for lovers of old architecture. There’s also an outdoor niche by the entrance, covered and cosy, and another partly covered courtyard where everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves—sipping coffee and soaking in the atmosphere. We’ll most definitely be recommending it—and we’ll certainly be back when in town again. One recommendation is though for the coffee to be hotter as mine was not hot enough but otherwise it was good. Thank you, Lyndon, Peter & Sandy the dog.

So easy to miss the entrance to this excellent coffee shop. Great choice of cakes and pastries to go with the mid morning flat white. Highly recommended.

Marra is a fantastic spot and could be easy to miss, but absolutely worth finding. Staff were warm and welcoming, and the outdoor seating is a real highlight, which was perfect for our sunny lunch. Flatbread and sandwich were both excellent, despite being a slightly smaller portion than expected. It wouldn't put us off going back. A lovely place with great food, great vibes, and excellent service. Highly recommended!

With its delicious food using fresh ingredients and friendly & courteous staff, Marra has become our favorite restaurant in Kendal. Lakes Hot Spot is a unique establishment that combines a cafe, bakery, and pizzeria. In addition to the usual offerings, they also feature more unconventional choices like Polish pizza and chili jam garlic bread. Their freshly made food is not only delicious but also reasonably priced. Visitors have praised the place for its great service and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant offers collection and delivery options for preorders, making it convenient for patrons to enjoy their delectable pizzas, pastries, and cakes.
We stayed in Coniston 3 nights on the first night we made the error of thinking we could just turn up and order a pizza at 7:30 nope they were fully booked for the rest of night. So we phoned an order in the following day to pick up and were not disappointed. I'd say one of the best pizzas I've ever had, chilli jam is an inspired topping choice. Not only that but a great service and the 2 guys working there were a good laugh. Can't fault it

A lovely place by the looks of it. Coffee was nice. Waiting literally 15 minutes for it when I ordered a takeaway was definitely not. If you know you are busy and have to serve 10 people at the tables breakfasts before you can get to my two takeaway coffees, please have the decency to say thay it will be a long waiting time and I can make an informed decision rather than waiting around for two cups of coffee...

Lovely spot cosy and warm friendly staff and delicious food and coffees. Pumpkin spice Brownies and sausage rolls were amazing.
Debra R — Google review
Stopped by to grab some food to take out and fuel us up for hiking. We ordered two americanos, a ham and cheese melt, a bacon, sausage and egg bap and a pork and chorizo sausage roll. The breakfast bap was really good, the cheese and ham melt was okay apart from half of it being a bit hard - but the main reason for my low star rating is because we never received our sausage roll. After taking a bus to our starting place, we opened up the bag given to us at the cafe to take with us realising they hadn't packed the sausage roll. This was a real disappointment, we were really looking forward to trying it and it wasn't cheap either; and we didn't get to have it.
