The Varsity Club is a multi-level venue located in the heart of Oxford, offering various experiences for visitors. It features a cocktail lounge, nightclub, and a rooftop lounge with stunning views of the city skyline and University buildings. The entrance to this popular spot is discreetly tucked away near the Covered Market gateway. Guests can enjoy panoramic views while sipping on a selection of drinks from champagne to cocktails.
I celebrated my 30th birthday in the private rooftop lounge at The Varsity Club, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The atmosphere was incredible from the moment we arrived. As the sun began to set, the whole rooftop was bathed in warm golden light, and later in the evening, the view of the moon shining over Oxford’s skyline made the night feel magical. The food was fresh and delicious — from the tasty snacks to the perfectly cooked burgers — and the drinks were spot on. The staff were outstanding, always friendly, attentive, and quick to make sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. For such a beautiful venue right in the heart of Oxford city centre, the prices were surprisingly affordable. It was an unforgettable experience, and I couldn’t have picked a better place to celebrate such an important milestone.

We only stopped here for a cocktail and people watching. Cocktails were great. I asked the waitress to make a specific type of margarita which she perfectly executed. The people watching was fun. The view of Oxford was amazing! Had a lot of fun here.

We had only drinks at their terrace bar. Cocktails are original but they also know how to pull an old fashion (— the cherry). Very friendly service amazing view of Oxford. Must go!
Selim K — Google review
Me and my friends had the best time. They have amazing cocktails and wonderful mocktails with no lack in flavour and our waitress Chehak was the sweetest! We will totally come here again!

Great food. You can see the roof tops of Oxford. It might look like something at night. In tge day mew. Dosent stop the gaff having a great vibe. It's really big as well. 3 floors, plenty of space and covers. Uts tucked away so you would pass it unnoticed if you hadn't looked it up or seen it on tiktok. It's also resemble if you do the contact deals with the meal. I rated it, I think you will to.
Steven S — Google review
We did a hen do cocktail making class here and it was so much fun! We got to try lots of different cocktails and make some too. The 2 leading the class were brilliant. They were knowledgeable, funny and dealt well with us barely listening and asking the same questions 🤦 thank you! The roof top was also lovely for drinks after. Highly recommend

Fantastic views of one of the most iconic parts of the city. Food is decent but not great. Service is fairly attentive. Surprisingly not very busy at lunchtime.
Matteo R — Google review
Went on a quiet Wednesday. Weird and threatening booking procedure. No table service, pay for food and drinks (with added service charge) at the till. Why am I paying for service charge before I've had service and I'm having to come up and do my order myself? Staff took so long to collect our plates that I had to put them on another table myself before getting drinks (the amazing service I paid up front for) Very watered down Estrella with zero head on top. Parmasean and truffle chips were very good, however burger was soaking wet and my partner's steak was the size of the palm of my hand. Cocktails were really nice, however everything else that happened made sure it was my first and last visit here.

Pub
Restaurant
The Turf Tavern, a historic pub dating back to 1831, is located in Oxford. Situated down a charming alley called St Helens Passage, it boasts a lovely outdoor beer garden and ample indoor seating. This iconic establishment attracts university students, famous personalities, and regular tourists alike. Notably, former US President Bill Clinton was once a patron during his time as a Rhodes scholar at Oxford.
Turf Tavern in Oxford is a hidden gem that's absolutely worth seeking out! Tucked away, this charming restaurant boasts a wonderful garden that's perfect for a relaxing meal alfresco. With a wide selection of delicious local food and beverages, you're spoiled for choice – and the authentic cuisine truly shines. The ambiance is fantastic, with amazing decor and different seating areas both inside and outside that cater to every mood. Whether you prefer cozy indoor dining rooms or the lovely garden, you'll feel right at home. Service is quick and attentive, adding to the lovely experience. Practical touches like clean toilets and a comfortable waiting area show the care put into guest comfort. If you're in Oxford, Turf Tavern is a must-visit for a delightful blend of great local food, beautiful surroundings, and warm atmosphere. Highly recommended – you won't be disappointed!

What a great little place!! We had so much fun eating here and just soaking up the atmosphere—so much history!! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We had the Turf Tavern burger and the chicken Kyiv; both were amazing! Can’t wait to visit here again one day.
Lora F — Google review
After dinner, we strolled through the beautiful city center. Near the 'Bridge of Sighs' on New College Lane, we spotted a sign for the Turf Tavern pointing down a narrow alley. We followed the winding and very narrow St Helen's Passage until we reached a cozy pub nestled against the old city walls, which has stood in the same spot since at least 1381. We sat on the charming outdoor terrace and enjoyed the warm summer night, a good pint of beer, and the unique atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. The restrooms were clean. This pub is in a truly special location, and the ambiance is almost magical because of it. Definitely worth stopping by for a pint!

One of Oxford’s iconic pubs, popular among visitors, boasts a semi-hidden alleyway entrance and a spacious interior. It’s a popular spot for gatherings. We walked in on a weekday and managed to get a table I appreciate the QR ordering system, which is convenient for dining with a group. Everyone can easily place their orders and make payments. The indoor seating exudes a nostalgic charm. Food is decent for the price.

Historic inn - definitely worth checking out if you’re in Oxford. This is one of those places where you’d go for the novelty of it, given the slew of famous patrons that visited it. The food however was average - we had the salmon and cheddar fishcakes, the chicken Kiev, meat pie and for starters the salmon roe and calamari. The starters were mid, the Kiev was quite tough, and the fishcakes were nice but basic. We visited around midday on a Saturday - so it was definitely very busy, and service was a bit slow but the servers were polite and quite friendly. Would be back for the vibes and maybe just a drink next time.
W60 — Google review
Accidentally stumbled upon this famous spot as I was just looking for a decent fish and chips. Was well worth it. The atmosphere was fantastic, three outdoor seating spaces with character from its surroundings. You can order at the bar or use the QR code on the table, which I always prefer as you can customize your own order on your own time. The fish and chips was great. Light batter, big piece, and both the fish and chips were salted well. Tartar sauce was also nice and pickly/acidic. Also appreciated the lemon being grilled! Loved the atmosphere and food here, great place to grab a pint or meal.
Sylvia — Google review
The way to the restaurant may seem tricky at first, but if you follow the map it’s actually easy to find. The narrow, somewhat isolated streets might feel unusual, which adds to the charm. As in many places in England, you either order at the bar or by scanning the QR code on the tables and paying by card. I first ordered chicken wings, then a beer and fish & chips. The service was quite fast compared to the average in Western countries. The chicken wings were tasty but a bit dry — they could have used more sauce. The fish & chips, however, were the best I’ve had in Oxford compared to other places. The place itself is cozy, giving the impression of being in someone’s garden. Definitely worth a try if you are visiting Oxford.
Fakı A — Google review
Definitely off the beaten path, but worth the trip down the winding alleyway to come across a beautiful garden spot nestled in a canyon between the looming buildings. The food is solid, the service excellent, and the seating sample both inside and in the multiple outdoor gardens. Pay at the front bar or order for your table with their app and Wi-Fi.

Located above the Westgate shopping center in Oxford, The Alchemist offers a modern and unique bar and restaurant experience. With stunning views of Oxford's iconic spires, this venue is known for its original cocktails that are served with a twist of chemistry and theater. The talented bartenders are trained in classic drink-making techniques and pay obsessive attention to detail, creating cocktails that come with a devilish dash of theater.
This place is worth the hype and the money. The cocktails are wonderful, mixed beautifully and drunk far too easily - and many come with a show. It is a clever and fun idea and the only thing I didn't enjoy was how short the experience was. Will be back. Also, some of the best vegetarian food I have eaten in a while.

The Alchemist offers an elegant and beautifully decorated indoor space, along with an open-air area that’s perfect for enjoying the weather and the view. The real highlight is the creative and daring cocktails, which feel like they were crafted in a potion lab — complete with smoke effects, unique presentations, and unexpected flavor combinations. Service is fast, attentive, and efficient, adding to the overall experience. The Alchemist is the perfect destination for anyone looking to step off the beaten path and explore new sensations.

Great cocktails and a really fun atmosphere. The presentation is creative and the service is friendly. A bit on the pricier side, but worth it for the experience.

Had a fantastic night at The Alchemist Oxford for my girlfriend’s birthday! The cocktails were incredible—bursting with flavor and so creative. Our waiter Ojas was awesome, super friendly, and gave spot-on cocktail recs. He even managed to arrange a surprise birthday brownie for my girlfriend despite the busy night, which made it so special. Highly recommend, especially with Ojas taking care of you!

Stunning location, lovely inside and outside. Staff were nice, cool to see the drinks being made - but missing loads of items, annoying after 10 mins studying the menu 😂 maybe a sign or waiter could inform in advance!

Pub
The Bear Inn in Oxford is a traditional pub with a rich history dating back to 1242, making it the oldest surviving pub in the city. Situated in what was once the medieval red-light district of Magpie Lane, this low-ceilinged establishment boasts creaky floorboards and a fascinating collection of cut-off ties from various sports teams, colleges, and university clubs. The pub has been frequented by notable figures such as Shelley, Auden, and Graham Greene.
I relished the opportunity to visit Oxford's oldest remaining pub, appreciating the gorgeous interior still standing! The fireplace is nice and the collection of ties is fascinating, even found Cambridge on there. I had a pint of their strawberry cider, coming in at around £5 which is fine for Oxford prices!
K. P — Google review
The Bear Inn is exactly what you picture when you think of an old English pub—tiny inside, full of character, and super cozy. Seating indoors is limited, so you might have to squeeze in, but that’s part of the charm. The menu is kind of all over the place, with everything from nachos to pimientos de padrón to salads. Not your usual pub fare, but it keeps things interesting. The food was decent overall, nothing amazing, but tasty enough. It’s a bit pricey for what it is, but you’re mostly paying for the cool, historic vibe. Great spot to check out if you’re in Oxford.
Ragnhild H — Google review
Great historic 13Century pub - popped in for a pint only the Fullers pints are great as usual! Pub had the old tradition of cutting the end off regimental and institution tie and there are hundreds on the wall!!Bill Clinton had even popped in!
Simon G — Google review
The Bear Inn in Oxford is a fantastic spot if you’re looking for a lively yet welcoming atmosphere. With live music setting the tone, it draws in a friendly and trendy crowd, making it easy to feel at home whether you’re with friends or visiting solo. There’s always a sense of warmth here, and the staff add to the charm by keeping the vibe relaxed but upbeat. The outdoor section is a real highlight—comfortable, well laid out, and perfect for enjoying a drink or two. Pair that with a good selection of beers and some tasty food, and it’s easy to see why The Bear Inn has such a great reputation. If you’re in Oxford, it’s definitely worth dropping by—you’ll leave with the sense that you’ve experienced something special.
Nicholas M — Google review
My cask ale adventure in Oxford brought me to The Bear Inn. I love how this beautiful city has so many great pubs to offer, each with their own unique charm and this was no exception. Immediately as I entered I felt right at home. The staff are so welcoming and very knowledgeable. You couldn't hope to meet more friendly people. I chose a pint of 'Oliver's Island' from Fuller's. Gorgeous! This was a perfectly kept beer and served to the highest standard. I could very easily have stayed for another pint but duty called; I only had a short time left in which to explore but I will certainly be heading back to this pub on my next visit to Oxford. Keep proper pubs like this alive and support them; we don't always appreciate how good we have it in the UK with treasures like this pub and others.
Jake C — Google review
If you are going there to gift a Police Tie to them. Forget about it. They are not accepting anymore. So all the way back to Australia with my police tie I go. Otherwise, the food was great. I had fish and chips and sus had the salad. Yum. Duck your head if you are more than 180 cm.

The Mad Hatter in Oxford is an Alice in Wonderland-themed speakeasy bar on Iffley Road. It offers a unique experience with cocktails ordered through telephones on tables and theatrical, delicious drinks. The bar features creative cocktails, New World wines, European brews, and molecular creations. Visitors can enjoy laidback jazz nights and open mic evenings at this eccentric venue.
The Mad Hatter hosted my hen party on Saturday morning and we had a lovely time! The private karaoke room was the perfect space for our jewellery making class and the waiters were attentive and helpful, even bringing extra tables up to the room for us. We enjoyed a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic teapot cocktails, as well as the afternoon tea, all of which was delicious. They were also really helpful when arranging my booking and taking payment in advance. Thank you so much!

Come here for the worst service that makes you feel bad for coming and inconveniencing staff by being there! Came a week ago for a birthday celebration. What a horrible time. Me and my friends arrived promptly and 15 minutes early. On arrival we were greeted with potentially a person with a vile attitude and extremely hostile. We said we knew we were early and thought we could grab a drink before (aka spending more money. ) you would think this would be welcomed but instead they told us they will make them when we go up to the karaoke room. The woman explaining the kareoke was well informed and blunt. The bartenders seemed offended any time we ordered a cocktail, and made all of us feel guilty for asking to order drinks. Had a lovely time in the dusty kareoke room alone. But when it came to any interaction with the staff it made us all feel guilty to be there. Luckily the birthday girl wasn’t too bothered as she was more happy everyone was able to be with her. But in all honesty, we all work in the service industry as we are all 20 years old university students, and the way the team made us feel was appalling and disappointing. From one hospitality worker to another. Don’t be a rude person it made us all feel like 💩
J M — Google review
Amazing night at the Hatter! Me and some Friends booked a private karaoke room upstairs on Saturday the 13th of April and then we went downstairs for more Karaoke. Range of songs was great, service was very friendly and the coctails unforgettable. We will definitely go back for more similar nights. I tried the food on another occasion and it was very tasty and well made.

This place is illogical. My husband and I love to check out eclectic unique bars anytime we travel so we stopped by with our 2.5 YO for a quick drink at 7 PM on a Wednesday night. We were told the following "We allow kids, but only if you book ahead of time and only on the weekends, because sometimes we get rowdy groups." So let me get this straight, kids are allowed on the weekends when more people are prone to partying and getting drunk...but not at 7 pm on a Wednesday night for a couple that is only hoping to grab 1 drink?....Tell me how this makes ANY logical sense. In any case I'm glad we did not come to this part of town just for the bar which was our original plan. But ALSO if this is your policy...why not POST it somewhere. There is nothing on the door or even on the website alluding to this policy.

My wife and I went here on Friday for a cocktail making class, there was another couple and 2 sisters all in our group who we had never met before. Ash the barmaid was very enthusiastic and Knowledgeable about the class. We all had an amazing time, watching and making cocktails behind the bar. I would highly recommended this Virgin experience as one of the best I have been given. Give it a go or buy for a friend. Awswome.

We had a great afternoon at the cocktail masterclass. We were very well looked after and it was great fun, especially making our own cocktails behind the bar. Zac was knowledgeable, helpful and made the experience very enjoyable. Would recommend. Thank you!

Heard good things about this place and decided to pop in today on a whim with my girlfriend. Was a lovely, and unexpectedly well themed place to go to. Our bar tender, Jack, was great fun and set the tone for the rest of our night. Staff and establishment was lovely. Recommended as one of the ‘lesser known must visit establishments’ in Oxford.

Lamb and Flag is a 500-year-old pub located in the heart of Oxford, near the Ashmolean Museum. It is a favorite among Oxford University students as it is owned by St Johns College, with profits being reinvested into the university. The pub has a cozy atmosphere with an open fire and plenty of tweed-clad Oxbridge characters.
Great old pub with lots of character, and characters. Loved the wood panelling and big bright windows at the front of the pub. Perfect for watching the world go by. Service was nice and friendly too.
Chris H — Google review
Good selection and a variety of seating options. A little too chilly now that the hearth can't be used, but that's OK. Like a lot of centuries-old pubs in Oxford, this place has history - including hosting Inklings meetings with CS Lewis. The little snug is a great spot!
Avery A — Google review
Great place with a cozy, vintage ambiance and a nice selection of beers on tap. Highly recommend visiting if you’re looking for a good pint with friends, with an added bonus of Tolkien’s elvish inscription over the doorway.
Ashesh G — Google review
L&F is a pretty cool old pub with a decent selection of beer. The two bartenders that served us were very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately for me I went on a very busy Sunday night and it was not conducive to snapping a traveling memory without some young muppets complaining about taking a picture. That being said, inside it's pretty nice and it gives off good vibes and I can imagine when its not super busy the atmosphere could be pretty warm and intellectual. It's easy to understand how this place became a favorite for Tolkien. If you are traveling, you should definitely make this a stop on your list, especially for its cultural significance.
Richard A — Google review
Beautiful pub in oxford where Tolkien used to go and have his pints🥲 We had a quiche, very yummy! Drinks were good quality. It was clean and tidy and I was surprised why there weren’t many people there (maybe everyone was hungover on Sunday!). I totally suggest this pub if you’re in oxford.

Packed with undergrads and a few expats. A great classical Oxford pub with local ales. The Inklings prob hung out here too.
Jeremy P — Google review
Good beer, bizarre management. Was having a great time, drinking a great beer with about 15 work friends when this guy asked my friend to leave. His sin? He asked for a Jaeger shot (which they serve) and a Red Bull (which they serve) - apparently the fact that these are the component parts of a Jaegerbomb is a grave sin in the Lamb and Flag. He wasn’t loud. Wasn’t rowdy. Took no for an answer. But despite this, yellow shirt asked him to leave on some weird power trip. We attempted to reason w yellowshirt/mustache. Was not having it. Needless to say we all left and took our business elsewhere but it left a very sour taste - I don’t think any of us have ever been kicked out of a bar before, especially for asking to buy something that is on the menu. Edit: It turns out they DO in fact sell Jaegerbombs. My best guess is that they wanted us out because a good chunk of our group don’t drink and the rest of us don’t drink like undergrads. Better revenue to kick us out and replace w “better” customers on a busy Friday night.
Tom M — Google review
This pub needs to up its game. On the evening we visited, one member of staff thought pouring a cask ale with one arm would work, which clearly wasn’t a great tactic if you wanted to serve a full pint. The look of disgust when I asked for the pint to be topped up seemed to indicate inadequate training had been provided to the staff. This clearly linked with the pub’s inability to serve great beers in the great state they are intended to be poured. The Lamb and Flag is a long way from being a Good Beer Guide pub based on this experience. It’s difficult to believe it’s made the cut this year but I look forward to being proved wrong if I visit again.

Nestled in the vibrant Jericho area of Oxford, Freud Cafe Bar is a stunning cocktail destination housed in a beautifully refurbished Victorian church dating back to 1835. With its striking stained glass windows and grand architecture, this bar offers an enchanting ambiance that draws in locals and visitors alike. Since opening its doors over three decades ago, Freud has become a beloved spot for socializing, featuring spacious areas perfect for mingling with friends or meeting new people.
Really helpful man on the door (head doorman) plus man who showed us to our table could not stop dancing. Very cheerful start to the night, you couldn't not be in a good mood with that kind of entrance. Music was really good and the cocktails were amazing. George made us some absolute corkers including the tutti frutti, bramble, and real Freud. The long island ice tea almost finished me off. Great time had by all. Highly recommend

A seriously cool place with great drinks and a nice vibe. Bonus points for having music at a volume that allows both dancing and conversation. I asked for a surprise mock tail twice and was very happy both times. The rest rooms are good but could have been cleaner. They seem to lack food or maybe the kitchen was just closed today.

Awesome place! Amazing atmosphere and super friendly staff. It was the highlight of our trip to Oxford. Strongly recommended!

DO NOT VISIT! I visited Freud over the weekend and was disgusted by the venue, the drinks and above all - the staff. I was particularly appalled by the door staff who got a kick out of bullying the young women in our party.

Always make a point of visiting here when coming into Oxford , it’s a fantastic building with a great atmosphere and very enjoyable cocktails 😋 It really contributes to Walton Street area being a destination of choice what with all the great places to eat and get drinks.

Great ambience - the bar is in an old church building so the high ceilings and lights make for an amazing experience. There is an extensive cocktail list and all the ones I've tried so far have been well-made and reasonably priced. Reservations are usually not required, but the hours are a bit unpredictable due to event bookings. I would definitely recommend a visit here if you come across it when it's open!
Devanshi T — Google review
Very good cocktails in a quirky (previously a church) bar.
Lyndsey C — Google review
A great place to go to for cocktails! Reasonably priced drinks that are very well done by the staff, and they taste amazing. I am yet to try the entire menu, they have so many options to choose from! All staff are very polite, professional and you can tell that they genuinely love doing their job. The manager, Jemima, is absolutely lovely and she has clearly done an amazing job at training her team. There have been many occasions where I have brought my son along with me on the weekends, at earlier times, and the staff have been very welcoming - my son loves this place. Another thing that I love about this place is that they are pet friendly, which is an extra bonus. I would 100% recommend Freud to everyone! A very unique and beautiful building that is definitely worth a visit, without a doubt.

The Kazbar Tapas Restaurant & Bar offers a fusion of Spanish and Moroccan tapas in a charming setting adorned with North African lanterns, kilims, and mosaic tables. Situated on the vibrant Cowley Road in Oxford, this restaurant provides an authentic experience with its decor and lively Spanish music. Guests can indulge in a variety of mezze dishes such as garlic prawns, Moroccan lamb, Iberian ribs, and an array of flavorful vegetables.
My partner and I visited Kazbar for lunch and absolutely loved it. We shared five tapas dishes, and the portion sizes were great — we left feeling very full! We tried the pork burgers, chicken thighs, prawn kebabs, bravas, and chilli beef spring rolls, and every dish was fantastic. Kazbar also makes original cocktails, so definitely ask if your favourite isn’t listed on the menu. The staff were very polite and attentive, and we enjoyed it so much that we booked to come back again!

The atmosphere and decor are very inviting. I loved the large open windows and the colourful bougainvillea flowers. I was passing by, and got tempted by the absolutely fabulous decoration. Their choice of music is fantastic; creates a vibrant mood. Very different from the same old pubs. Their lemon beer was refreshing, delicious and perfect for summer. However, we later noticed that the beer was past best before date. This is May and the date was crossed in February. That was disappointing. Anyway, the beer tasted fine. But I hope they take more care into ensuring their products are not expired.
Madhurima S — Google review
The staffs are slow with serving and more attentive by receiving orders for drinks and cocktails than food. The food is okay but lacking in authenticity and freshness. Although the interior design is intriguing, it is difficult to eat at these tables because of the uncomfortable chairs. I think this restaurant sounds more like a place to hang out over drinks with friends than it does for eating. To serve meals more effectively and with greater quality, the service must be enhanced.

What a fantastic spot in Oxford! From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. The ambiance is vibrant yet relaxed, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with friends or family. The menu has a wonderful variety, and every dish we tried was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The service was excellent – the staff were attentive, cheerful, and genuinely seemed to care about our experience. It’s rare to find a place that combines such great food, atmosphere, and hospitality all in one. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Oxford!

Always a place that does not disappoint. I believe that Kazbar is probably one of the better restaurants in the whole of Oxford in terms of dining and experience. With a great selection of vast tapas dishes there is a choice for all, it has such a lively and unique atmosphere which you would not expect from Oxford, dishes are delicious, and prices are very fair.

Sandy's Piano Bar, located on King Edward Street in Oxford, is a classy underground speakeasy that offers original cocktails, wines by the glass, and live entertainment. The bar exudes an intimate and relaxed atmosphere with knowledgeable staff ensuring drinks keep flowing until late every night. Live music is a staple at Sandy's, featuring resident pianists and visiting jazz bands that perform nightly.
Amazing place totally visited by chance but i'm so glad we did. Really nice atmosphere and we also had some delicious cocktails too. I loved the way the music was set up and the sound quality was perfect. The artist playing on the night of 17/09/24 was smashing it and we really enjoyed ourselves! P.S if you see this review feel free to use the pic

Music is really good but the venue is Tiny (hence the 3 stars) They need bigger premises or redesign the current layout! If you book a table good luck trying to get to the bar! No drinks table service offered ! So fight your way through the crowd to get to the bar, the cocktails are good. The venue seems to want to crowd in as many people as possible so if you do make it to the bar be prepared to end up wearing most of your drink going back to the table area after fighting through the crowd. We would have spent much more at the bar if this was offered! Every time I've been here the bouncer on the door seems reluctant to want to let you in! Or it's the staff inside take ages responding to him on his radio. Other people were also stood outside trying to explain they also had a booking and weren't being let in.

Loved it, came for a friend's birthday and everyone in our group had a great time. Started upstairs before making our way down to dance, sing and laugh all night. Highlight was definitely my friend being sung to by the whole bar! Fantastic atmosphere, great music and decent prices for drinks. Highly recommend, will return!

Sandys Piano Bar is our favourite place to have fun in Oxfordshire!! We’ve visited regularly over a few years and every time we go we have a fantastic night. Love the energy of the music, the crowd involvement and the lovely range of drinks. Simply sensational!! My only complaint is that they closed Little Sandys in Witney ;-)

Cesia C — Google review
Sandys is always great fun, but I wish their bouncers would relax a bit and let people sit in seats that are free until whoever has reserved them show up! Being told off like children for sitting down annoyed us and, lots of other punters throughout - what was otherwise - a great night!

£7 to walk down some stairs is quite misleading when you aren't told that until you are in the door. The pianist wasn’t on for long before stopping and then there was no music in between. Disappointing when it cost so much.

Can't thank the bouncers, manager and the lovely guy at the door (I don't remember your name sorry!) enough. After having an issue with a guy not leaving my friends and I alone, and then coming back to talk to a couple of us dispute being told to leave us along by one of the bouncers. They handle the situation quickly and calmly and with so much kindness and understanding. They made not so positive experience so much more enjoyable

This was a great bar for clubbing, with classic radio hits playing across the speakers! Lighting provides a warm feel and counter is stylish, outdoor seating area is nice to relax for any time out. I had a Vodka with Coke and prices are quite steep including entry, clubbing was fun although some people are too reserved when you dance near them.

The Trout Inn is an upscale country gastropub located on the banks of the River Thames, offering picturesque views and a beer garden where families of peacocks roam. This historic establishment has inspired literary greats like Lewis Carroll and Inspector Morse's creator, Colin Dexter. The inn retains its historical charm with exposed beams and a cozy atmosphere, while also offering modern comforts. Situated in the beautiful riverside scenery of Oxfordshire, it provides a menu that satisfies visitors' appetites.
Great atmosphere in a lovely location. It was a sunny day so we sat outside. They have plenty of informal and formal seating areas which was great as we only wanted to get a few drinks and nibbles. Had shaded areas too. Drinks came quickly but the nibbles did take a while. Wasn't an issue as we were chatting away. Both the drink and food was amazing and reasonably priced. Service was friendly and pleasant. Good sized free parking but I can imagine this to be quite full when busy.

Had a lovely experience at the trout. The staff was incredibly kind, helpful and accommodating. One of our group had difficulty coping with the music and they kindly offered to lower it. The service was very good and the food came without having to wait too long. As well as our table, we booked it half an our later, but we arrived earlier. The staff managed to find a table for us even though we were early! On Sunday we recommend the Sunday roasts as they were delicious! As well as the classic fish and chips and for a lighter meal the house salad with fish will be perfect. The mini dessert was a surprising, but good combination! A small desert and a cup of coffee, perfect!

Absolutely fantastic experience! From the moment walking in the atmosphere was great, real homely feel and the restaurant is beautiful! We were welcomed nicely and asked for our drinks order quickly along with food which was all delivered promptly. The food itself was amazing! Chef Lauren is great! We shared the seafood platter to start and then had the pork and scallops for our main - every element was cooked to perfection! Of course we finished off with dessert with the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate bomb! Would 100% like to return!

Iv been coming to this lovely place over many years and its great on a summers day sat by the water. The place itself is beautiful but the outside could do with some TLC as looking forgotten and some tables are broken and need replacing. But please don’t let this put you off. Great place and friendly staff. The food we ate today was good and full love flavour. I booked a table over the phone as booking online was not working. Monday 12.30 booking Waited about 15-20 minutes from ordering food to it arriving. Free parking if you enter your Reg on arrival.

We came here for Sunday lunch, we had a mixed experience! The pub was so busy it was manic at times and almost too busy to feel relaxed. The service was very good but it was all a rushed feel, so felt on edge the whole time. The food, wine and beer were all good, very tasty, but unfortunately the mains were not hot, just warm, but as we weren’t feeling that great we didn’t want or wish to complain. We have visited in the past but several years ago. In these lean times, It’s great to see a pub busy and doing good trade and it’s clearly a very popular place so that’s also great, and all the staff were very pleasant and working flat out, and doing a great job, too, but it was just a bit too busy and too rushed for us.
Introspective D — Google review
I was going walking in the area so popped in when I arrived to book a table and register my car, returning an hour or so later. Following a polite and honestlt smiling greeting was shown to my table, chose to eat inside. A reasonable selection of beers and an excellent menu with plenty of choices for most palets. Went for the port and cheddar mushrooms with focaccia, absolutely superb and highly recommended. Followed up with salmon and crab fishcakes, well cooked and served, once again the staff really attentive, felt that a bit of dill may have amplified the flavour of the fish cakes. By then the day had warmed up, so took coffee on the terrance just watching the world go by and listening to the background babble of the nearby weir. A highly enjoyable lunch. As a side note, there's a large stone lion on the opposite bank that probably comes with it's own story.

Small portions, expensive for what it is . Sea bass lacked seasoning, looked nice, tasted bland, cost around 22£, not worth it 😒 Tried the vintage cheese Pizza and red onion, was not impressed, mainly dough and bread, normal size for around 17£, it’s a joke! If you want to enjoy a drink by the river it’s a perfect place)

Gorgeous vintage pub with outdoor dining patio, complete with external bar and picnic tables surrounded by willow and apple trees. Food and drink selection is excellent but Jess made the experience all the more impressive! Was sad to move inside after it started to drizzle. Absolutely dreary with a matching service attitude. Very nice high end pub. The front building with the bar is actually thatch roofed with low ceilings... very much traditional. The new areas are quite modern and quiet for a great meal. The lawn seating area looks amazing...was too cold when we were there. Dinner was excellent... the daily fish is recommended.

What a stunning place for a day out! We arrived slightly earlier than our lunch reservation and walked through the pub, into the most magical backyard and into an opening alongside the River Thames. Beautiful scenery with the water, horses, ducks, swans, rabbits and lush greenery. We then returned for our lunch. The staff were so attentive, friendly, polite, interactive and answered our questions about the surroundings and said we could park the car and go for a longer walk after food. The food itself was delicious! We had the fish and chips, fish cakes, the vegan burger and ginger bread pudding for dessert (highly recommended this dessert). All arrived timely with no delays. We were seated in the garden house. There is seating in the original pub area and the outside garden as well. All in all, a wonderful experience and one we will return to for sure! Tip: book ahead for busier times as this venue can get very busy.

Nestled in Oxford, The Old Bookbinders Ale House is a charming 19th-century pub with a traditional interior and a touch of French influence in its menu. Reopened by the Sardones family in 2011, this family-run establishment combines the quaintness of a British pub with the culinary flair of a French bistro. Despite its small menu, it changes regularly to keep things interesting and focuses on quality over quantity.
I love this pub, easily one of the best in Oxford, the beer is very well kept and there is a good selection. On top of that the food is great too (I go there for beer mainly but I suspect most people go there to eat). You don’t often find a pub that does good beer as well as food.

Excellent place for dinner (although getting a table is definitely the tricky part here). We had the 2 course set menu (£20.50 each). I had a delicious goat cheese and med veg tart to start followed by sea bass. Whilst the other person had same starter but the French style burger (no bun). The service was friendly and efficient and they answered all my allergen questions having checked with the kitchen without making me feel like I was difficult! Good drinks selection. My favorite place in Oxford for a Burger! When I tell you the burgers are so damn good🫣They have multiple options for meat, veggie and vegan!!! I can highly recommend their Impossinle veggie burger, it’s like a better tasting Mcdonalds!!! The service is really quick too, and on weekdays from 12-3pm they do a £10 deal for burger and chips or pizza 😍 The drinks are quite expensive but it’s a nice pub so it’s to be expected. But do yourself a favor and get down here because the burgers are insane x

Went with a table of 7. The food was delicious, especially the wood-fired pizza – if you're after a traditionally Italian pizza, this place is a must-try! We did have to wait an hour for our food, but the waiting staff were really apologetic and gave us free chips and drinks. It seems like we just caught them at a busy time. Can't praise the waiting and bar staff enough; we'll definitely be back!”

Such a lovely pub with great staff and lovely food! We came at 15:00 which was still buzzing inside but all the orders were table service with flipping the menu to green if you want to order which was great. They did not offer burgers at this time but pizza was great! I think the tea could be tea leafs to reduce waste and sauces to not be on plastic container but other than this it was great! We used QR code to get the menu which was nice and truffle chips and Margarita was top notch! Having some student discount and booking system for current times could be a bit more helpful so that the place does not filled up but would love to come back again :)

While it puts on less live music than in its 1990s heyday, it still showcases up-and-coming bands, making it more of a venue than just a pub.
Great pub. Good beer and a new manager, Jaden, who is very friendly and knows his business, having also been a manager here in the past I think:-) Pub garden with discreet stable-like booths.

The place where Radiohead started. And you can still hear it. The spacious ground floor is ideal for those who don't like cramped conditions but love beer. You can also buy beer on the first floor. Sometimes it seems that it's not a playlist playing from the speakers, but the ghosts of young bands: Supergrass, Foals, Ride... History on the walls, sound in the air, locals in the room. Without pathos, but with character. If you're not looking for medieval Oxford, this is it.

The food and cask ale selection are excellent. What more do you want? I thoroughly enjoyed the Hogs Back Surrey Nirvana with the haddock goujon 'burger' with some of the nicest tartare sauce I've ever had. You can usually count on one hand the amount of meals you enjoy and then a few hours later you think 'oh, I could eat that meal all over again now'. Absolutely delicious! Thank you to all the team.

Been here a few times and always had a great time, definitely recommend the loaded fries and the house wine is very reasonable compared to other places in Oxford. Really recommend it for a relaxed hang, lots of space and good atmosphere. #icons

Stopped in on a rainy Monday for dinner. The staff was extremely welcoming. Had a pint, and ordered the Steak and Ale Pie. It came out piping hot and delicious! Also had the Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert and it was lovely! Would definitely recommend a stop if you are in the area.

Nestled in the charming Summertown area of North Oxford, the Rose & Crown PH is a delightful traditional pub that has been serving patrons since 1836. With its eye-catching pink exterior, this inviting watering hole offers a cozy atmosphere perfect for enjoying classic pub snacks and drinks. The covered patio out back provides an ideal setting for Sunday Jazz nights, where locals gather to unwind and enjoy live music under the stars.
A lovely little gem serving good pints. They offer food, though we didn’t try. The staff were very helpful and the space is clean. Harder to get around for limited mobility, but a lovely back garden space.

Turned up on a quiet Sunday lunchtime just sat they were starting serving so judgment of atmosphere is not accurate. Traditional Oxford pub with a good beer selection and delicious meals. Sunday roast was very tasty and reasonable portions with a quick service. Friendly staff and a warm welcome from a gentleman I can only assume was the owner. The little things that we all seem to have lost these days but make all the difference. Would go back for a meal or a drink in the future.

What a find! A tiny pub full of charm, small inside but tables in a no traffic lane and in the little garden at the rear. I didn't eat here but the beer was great, lots of atmosphere, go there!

A wonderful and traditional pub with beer garden which is the jewel in the crown of North Oxford. Andrew and family have been running the establishment for over 40 years and it's easy to see why it remains such a successful and welcoming place to enjoy a drink. A varied yet concise selection of drinks and lovely food available, with Jazz Inn The Courtyard on Sundays being a highlight.

My husband and I popped in for rare date-night cocktails after the theatre and dinner. I must say, my Negroni was one of the best I’ve ever had—if not the best! The bartender was excellent. When I got home, I realized one of my Dior earrings was missing. On the off chance, I decided to email the cocktail bar, as it was the last place we had been. They replied almost immediately to say my earring had been found! I picked it up yesterday, and a very kind member of staff returned it to me. Amazing service and fantastic cocktails—I can’t recommend this place enough. Definitely 5 stars! Thank you!
Elina B — Google review
What an amazing place, why can you only give it 5 stars, it needs more. The owner is a fantastic Lady that loves her job and is very good at it. The atmosphere is such a great place with great music. One of the hidden Gems in Oxford that needs to be enjoyed so come visit.

I had a really fun night for my partners birthday this month. Was served by Malissa and Rauni who where very good at coustomer service and very friendly. Malissa was accommodating of my hidden disability. They made the most amazing cocktails for us. The venue was very tidy and the cocktails where second to none. Very fun and friendly and I was totally impressed with the drinks and the selection. Thank you for a good evening.
Lilly L — Google review
Only one word for the experience: amazing! Cocktail prepared properly by professional bartenders. You can feel their passion as they are making the cocktails one after the other. The atmosphere was very good, the staff were great and all seemed well managed. Cocktails are hugely overpriced and badly executed; here at Love Jericho was certainly not the case. Well done Team, I will be back when I next go to Oxford!
Laurent P — Google review
Great bar to go to for an occasion with a wide selection of great cocktails
Harry B — Google review
This place is absolutely fantastic, if you love cocktails and rum look no further! Their happy hour is from 5.00-9.00pm (grab amazing cocktails from £6, inclusive of most their menu). A place that knows how to make amazing authentic mojitos! We grabbed the lychee mojito, passion fruit mojito and the Jericho zombie, among others. Definitely recommend, the best cocktail bar in the area with great taste in music!
Amar K — Google review
Really disappointed tonight to be denied entry for wearing gold trousers. I thought cocktail bars were supposed to be fun but facing the public rejection from the joint was not and it knocked my confidence and mood for the rest of the evening. It’s a real shame because I had been to the cocktail bar before and loved it and tonight I had put in a lot of effort to look my best to take my gf out for a drink there. So to then be turned away at the door for my fashion choice was quite hurtful, especially as I had been there before and people were wearing all sorts. 🤷‍♂️For context, I had just been to Angels for a cocktail and they didn’t have a problem at all so they can’t have been that outlandish! 😅

The Ashmolean Rooftop Restaurant is a fashionable and classy spot located above the renowned Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. While it's not just a typical rooftop bar, it offers modern European dishes with British flavors and an exquisite dining experience. The restaurant provides stunning panoramic views of the historic city, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the rich culture and history of Oxford while indulging in delicious cuisine.
What a pleasant surprise this was. Great food (nice looking as well as tasty!), lovely veggie options, nice mocktails, we had exceptional service from our waiter. All on a nice outdoor deck in the sun. Perfect.
Justin K — Google review
Absolutely atrocious. We went for lunch with my wife and were ushered into a wasp ridden balcony and handed a menu with overpriced mediocre food. The service was awful and the overpriced salad had minimal chicken breast and at £2190 it was extremely disappointing and a touch bland, though the wasps were always happy to add some extra seasoning! Avoid like the plague, it’s now a full blown tourist trap!
Kia B — Google review
Absolutely excellent! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The food is amazing, the service was responsive and very supportive. This is especially important for me as I'm celiac. The restaurant service provided a allergy champion to guide me on which starters, mains and deserts are NGC. They understood and the cook was fully informed about my dietary requirements for my order. Thank you :)

This place was very cute for afternoon tea. Service was fine but could feel more special. Nice location and very enjoyable afternoon tea with a good selection of loose tea leaf tea.
Finnuala Q — Google review
I booked a vegan afternoon tea for two at this place. The place was very very busy - we waited a bit for our table and for our food to arrive. It's a nice rooftop location for drinks but to be completely honest, I did not find it special. The vegan afternoon tea was amazing though!
Aneta P — Google review
The Ashmolean is a fantastic museum in the heart of Oxford; the restaurant is a nice pitstop when browsing through decades of history. We've had amazing weather when visiting, so the rooftop terrace is a great opportunity to enjoy the weather with a view over the rooftops. As for the food, for a premium size, the portion size and quality is fairly average. We've had the olives and sourdough bread for starters which were both a bit disappointing. The lemon chicken was nice, but for £8 quite a small portion, even for a starter. All in all, worth stopping by if you're visiting the museum. Solely for food and drinks, there might be better places around.
Patrick — Google review
Really disappointing - the venue is fantastic, both the building but also the decor and layout, but the service is terrible and the food is not good. We were sitting for 20 minutes at our table with no service and had to go and ask for someone to take a drinks order. When the food arrived, it was distinctly average - out of four meals, two were picked at with a lot of food left uneaten. It's a lovely place to go and sit for a drink, but don't expect good quality food.
David G — Google review
Had a fabulous solo "artist date" here. Was made to feel very welcome and given a wonderful table with view of the rooftops. The service from Lesley was *brilliant*. Everything beautifully timed and I didn't have to wait ages for the bill (as that sometimes seems to happen). The wine was crisp and cold. The food was just wonderful. Light yet tasty with superb ingredients. The vegan burrata especially delicious. Tasted just like the real thing. The roof deck in the sunshine was a piece of heaven and loved the big bright interior of the restaurant. I will be coming back lots!

Victors Oxford is a luxurious rooftop bar and restaurant adorned with cascading wisteria flowers, offering stunning panoramic views of Oxford's iconic skyline. The vibrant decor and stylish ambience create an enchanting atmosphere for indulging in show-stopping cocktails, leisurely lunches, sophisticated dinners, or delightful afternoon teas. This Hamptons-inspired dining spot at the Westgate shopping centre presents immaculately presented seafood, meat, and vegetarian dishes featuring ingredients from the restaurant's herb garden.
Stylish spot for business or special evenings I visited Victors at Westgate Oxford for a business meeting, and it absolutely delivered. The atmosphere was vibrant and elegant, with the bonus of live music that added just the right energy without being overwhelming. The food was sophisticated and full of flavor — clearly crafted with care and style. Drinks were top quality, with a great selection to choose from. It’s the perfect place for a more formal dinner or business gathering where you still want to enjoy a great vibe. Highly recommended.

Lovely setting overlooking Oxford Spires. Restaurant interior is beautifully presented making for a pleasant atmosphere. Food was bang average and overpriced. Peppercorn sauce with my steak tasted like gravy mixed with lots of pepper. Burger for my wife was tiny. Just not good value. Service was attentive but didn’t justify the discretionary service charge, so asked for it to be removed. Service charge gets on my nerves, either include it in the price of the food, or deliver exceptional service to justify it. This whole concept across the industry needs looking at.
Paul C — Google review
Victors Oxford is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the city — the decor is visually stunning and really elevates the whole experience. You feel like you’ve stepped into something special the moment you walk in. Service is friendly and welcoming, though a bit slow at times — especially when waiting for drinks or trying to get a server’s attention. Nothing major, just slightly impacts the flow of the evening. Food is usually strong here, but this visit was a bit hit and miss. Starters let us down — the popcorn chicken was overcooked and mostly tiny, overly battered pieces. Squid didn’t taste very fresh and both starters arrived lukewarm. On the other hand, the tuna sashimi was fresh and well-portioned, and the crab & yuzu tacos were packed full of crab and seriously good value. Mains were excellent. We had two fillet steaks with chips, mac & cheese and peppercorn sauce. Steaks were perfectly cooked and much better than what you’d get at Miller & Carter. The sauce was bold and delicious, and the mac & cheese had great flavour and a solid cheese pull — rich but nicely portioned. Would definitely return, but hoping for more consistency next time — especially with the starters and speed of service. Still a great spot for a stylish night out and quality mains.

Victors Oxford at the rooftop of Westgate Mall is a total charm! I absolutely fell in love with this enchanting spot – the floral decor inside feels straight out of a fairy tale, making it perfect for lunches, dinners, and especially romantic dates. My experience started with the wonderfully friendly staff – the lady who greeted and seated us was incredibly nice (wish I could recall her name!), she set the tone for a lovely visit. The food? Top notch! We dined there multiple times and I'd go back again and again just to explore all their delicious dishes – there's clearly a treasure trove of culinary delights waiting to be tried. If you're looking for a beautiful setting, warm service, and outstanding food in Oxford, Victors Oxford is a definite must-visit. I'd return in a heartbeat – it's that special!

Massive portions, absolutely delicious food, and everything tasted amazing. The customer service was top-notch—Brigitte was so kind and patient, and she recommended the best dishes with great value for money. We’ll definitely be coming back to the Oxford branch.

We visited for a birthday brunch from London. My husband had been emailing Sam about a veg gluten free option (for the brunch menu) and she kindly put forward a number of options and I went with a main instead which was pre ordered. When we got to the venue, we sat outside in the rooftop ‘secret garden’ area. It wasn’t too busy when we got there and the music was fun and not too loud. The service was very good and the parts where they recognised it was slow, we got extra drinks brought out. I really liked my pasta however just needed a bit of salt. Bridget and Stevie were fantastic on the day and it really started our day trip in Oxford off on a high!! Would highly recommend.

Myself, mum and 2 sisters were just looking for a quick drink and a bite to eat before heading to the theatre. The vibe was lively and great for what we wanted. But then we had a slight issue with my sisters food order but Eamonn (the general manager) literally went above and beyond to make my sister feel much better. He is the perfect person for the job and we wanted to leave a fabulous review just for him personally! All the other staff were great too, but he knew exactly how to fix the situation and more. A personal touch to the situation was needed because it wasn’t just about the food, which he understood. Thank you Eamonn :)

This was a great restaurant for lunch, with plenty of menus available to browse the offerings! Speed was fine although the staff member was lacking in skills of dealing with people face to face, atmosphere is nice and relaxed by the stream. I enjoyed the spicy prawns dish with a Hot Chocolate, portion sizes are somewhat small however the leather seating was comfy.

Last minute find and really enjoyed this place. Slightly away from the centre of town, so the footfall seemed like people who had chosen to be there rather than stumbling across it. To quickly describe this place, if you're into a quick bite and a drink with some friends, this is clearly a good place to come. It has good tapas, good drinks, and great service at affordable prices, especially if you get the food at order two and pay for one offer. The vibe and music gets better after 11 pm. I recommend you enter the place at 10:30 as it gets busy by 11 and there is a big queue.

Hank's Bar in Oxford is a fantastic place! The atmosphere is always welcoming, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The managers go out of their way to make sure everyone has a great time. Whether you're stopping by for a drink or spending the evening, it's always a great experience. Highly recommend!

If you're looking for a place where the night never ends, this club is pure fire. From the moment you walk in, music blasts from every corner with DJs who never let the energy drop for a second. The atmosphere is perfect for those who love to dance until dawn: reggaeton, house, hip hop, and the occasional classic that gets everyone off their feet. The bar is another strong point: strong drinks, creative cocktails, and shots that flow like water. The bartenders know what they're doing and always have a list of smiles, even in the craziest moments. The dance floor is always full, but the vibe is so good that you end up dancing with strangers as if they were your best friends. Lights, smoke, good sound, and an audience that's ready to have a good time, no drama.

Went for a saturday happy hour and stayed a bit longer! During the happy hour it was very busy but it felt much more nicer after the hours went and the dimmed lights were lovely! Got two cocktails one that was short and one long (tipsy tea) and like them both but felt there were too much ice in both of them. The staff were lovely and the price of the cocktails were very nice!! The only issue was the music was sooo loud that a lot of us had to yell at each other and that was not the best. Also having some snacks would improve it too.
Dessi V — Google review
Easily my favourite cocktail bar in Oxford! Had a perfectly mixed whiskey sour & pisco sour. The bar staff are always so welcoming and friendly, thanks to Tony, Jono and Marcus for the excellent service. Lovely atmosphere and the playlist is always on point.

What happened to this place? I came in for a mojito, and was told that they don't do them. They had no mint (this was June). Um, what? Daiquiri on happy hour menu watery. Thats the end of the Duke of Cambridge
Tom S — Google review
So many other bars in Oxford, won’t be returning here… There were 3 different menus throughout the bar, one from a QR code on the table, one on the website and another paper one at the bar. All had a different time for happy hour?? We booked a table for 6:30 specifically to be here over happy hour but when we went to order drinks we were told it had finished and had to pay full price (£12 for a cocktail) even tho on one menu it said it finished at 7 and another at 7:30?? This was on a Saturday and they had run out of lemonade, grenadine and passion fruit so didn’t have all the ingredients for a lot of cocktails on the menu. I assume this was the manager (as he was asked about our table when we said we had a booking) but he was on his phone in the corner most of the time we were there aswell which isn’t great when there is a queue at the bar with one bartender. Cocktails are nice but very expensive, just so many other locations in oxford that aren’t as expensive and actually stick to the happy hour prices they have on the menu…

Great bar. Lots of tables and chairs of varying sizes. Very well stocked bar, with very knowledgeable barman who really knew his spirits and cocktails (we managed to find one behind the bar that no-one knew what it was, and he opened it and we all tried it together to find out). Relaxed and friendly.
Gav W — Google review
Good drinks and nicely made cocktails. Ambiance was okay but nothing special. Limited seats in the back garden. Music was not to my taste but likely that some enjoyed it as people were dancing. 'Dancing area' is very small and no special lighting or effects. Back garden was cosy, which meant that sometimes you had to share tables with others. It was nice as it was quite social and allowed us to meet a lot of people.

Came here twice during my trip in Oxford, & was amazed with the wonderful atmosphere! Drinks were phenomenal, and the locals around were even friendly which helped the experience even more! I came in mostly to review the man who came and made things right for me during my experience. I came in on a Friday night in July, & as someone who has worked in customer service I expect these places to be busy. My drink order from a female bartender was wrong, and my experience with her wasn’t pleasant. The gentleman after came out to my group of friends & I and made it right immediately for me! Expressing gratitude in my honesty of how I felt in the experience, and making me feel even more welcomed & seen as a tourist. If I would’ve caught his name, I’d mention it, but he made the experience with his partner on the upper level bar! Both those men are fantastic at what they do! Give this place a shot, even if it’s just for a quick pint or mixed drink! I’ll be sure to be back my next time in Oxford 🍻

Stumbled across this bar whilst making our way to dinner. Great modern cocktail bar with nice decor. Two bars are situated on different floors making the service quicker. Fantastic cocktail menu, lots of classics and new mixtures. It was happy hour early on Saturday evening so that was a bonus, drinks were £5, otherwise cocktails started at around the £8 mark. Good place for gatherings and tables can be reserved in advance. Great bar and I'll be returning.

Located in the vibrant Jericho district of Oxford since 1979, Raoul's Bar is a renowned destination for serious drinkers and cocktail enthusiasts. Recognized as an award-winning cocktail bar, it has been ranked among the Top 50 in the World by The Sunday Times. Visitors can expect an extensive and well-considered list of drinks, catering to various preferences.
New favorite cocktail bar in Oxford. All the drinks we had were awesome! If we didn’t have to get up early the next day, definitely would try way more. The vibe and service were great too! Plus, the drinks seemed a bit larger than at other cocktail bars in Oxford. The only thing to note is that there's no food or snacks here
Jen S — Google review
Had an amazing experience at Raoul’s. So good we went back the next night. They’ve brought on a new bar manager, Olly, who’s absolutely incredible. Charismatic, passionate, and clearly knows his craft. The team was testing a new cocktail menu, and every drink we tried was creative, balanced, and fun. Night one highlights: a crisp Japanese whiskey highball, a rich Boulavardier, and a smooth New York Sour. We couldn’t stay away, so we returned for round two. The Last Word, Closing Argument, Japanese Slipper, and Daisy de Santiago were all standouts. Olly and the crew made both nights memorable. Raoul’s is definitely raising the bar. We’ll be back again soon.

So wonderful to see this place re-opened! Easily still the best cocktail bar in Oxford. Incredible cocktails, well balanced recipes - mixture of innovative and classic. Knowledgeable bar staff, who can give recommendations and adapt drinks to your taste. Nice nibbles. Calm, relaxed atmosphere with table service.
Amy G — Google review
We first came to Raoul's on a whim, and were delighted both with service and our drinks. Olly and team were very friendly, chatting with us while we sat at the bar. It was during this conversation that we learned of the upcoming new menu - including bar snacks! We thus made sure to return on the Friday, in which we got to try the temporary new drink menu. Olly ensured that there are options for everyone on there, wanting the menu to be accessible for all. Whether you want a frozen or fruity margarita, a smoky old fashioned, or something completely new to you, they'll have it - or make it! I say the latter as Olly was open and willing to make off menu drinks for us, even those he wasn't aware of. There also are several non alcoholic options for those wanting less alcohol or none at all throughout the night. We look forward to the next time we are in Oxford so we can visit again! Definitely one of our favourite bars in general. :)
Janice ( — Google review
Best cocktails in Oxford! The bartender was a master. During my stay in Oxford, went 4 times to enjoy his creations. Everything was delicious. Excellent food, too. Will definitely go again.
Odlaw — Google review
Having been told that this place had been extraordinary in its quality by friends who had been going for years it was quite the disappointment to us all to find that the new management had gutted both the drinks list and charm. Comparing the old menu from even a few months ago to the new one was certainly a exercise in disappoint. The drinks themselves were serviceable though hard to justify the sheer cost of them for what you got. It would seem that they are banking on the original established name without bringing back the same quality. It’s not the worst cocktail bar I’ve been too but it certainly isn’t the up the the same quality as it’s previous iteration.
William B — Google review
First visit to Raoul's Bar didn't disappoint. Only stayed for one drink as the night was going to be a busy one. The interior has great decor to it. The bar tender took orders from the table and brought drinks over which was a nice touch. The only thing I would say is, if you aren't a fan of cold breeze in the cooler months, try and find a table downstairs. I didn't know about this so I was sat with what felt like a cold sea breeze crashing against my face. Though this did put my new fur jacket to the test. All in all a great bar and I will be visiting again!

A nice and affordable place to stay. Not very close to city centre but not that far. Also, good breakfast

I don't understand why this is rated so badly. It has amazing facilities and is easily accessible, and not expensive (relatively)! The pink room (#2) is amazing. Huge fan, big smart TV, big comfy bed. The info was all clear (tho in my panic of my phone nearly dying I didn't read you had to swipe the smart lock, she didn't mind!) Only thing is the shower, which is basically warm rain. The breakfast is very varied, though I felt a bit awkward prancing about the house on my own. Once you get the hang of the bus system, it's literally 5 minutes from the centre for only £2 each way, and the buses stop literally in front (hourly), or on a 3min walk (every few minutes). All in all, highly recommended! (I got a glimpse of another room and I suppose it does depend on the room. The pink room was very luxurious though!)
Toon H — Google review
Nice and clean. The room is well prepared and welcoming. The bathroom very small and so is the kitchen you share with other guests, only one small table. The first breakfast ok with yoghurt, bread, fruit etc. Day 2 a disappointment. No eggs, no yoghurt. The owner had forgotten to fill the fridge. Its the house behind the white birch, Number 17, very close to Tesco. Close to buses. Recommended.

(Translated by Google) Neat clean rooms. Good price-quality ratio. Breakfast sufficient choice, but little room to eat, 1 table for 5 rooms and we just had a rainy morning that you could not eat outside. Close to the center of Oxford. Clear communication with the landlord, access with code well arranged. It is even possible to bring your luggage earlier and store it in a locked cupboard. Across the street there is a Tesco, and within walking distance a good pub with good food for very reasonable prices. (Original) Nette schone kamers. Goede prijs - kwaliteit verhouding.

Great place for brunch away from the crowds. Short walk put of tbe centre and close to park entrance. Food was very good. Service entertaining and polite. Environment stylish and quiet. Great coffee.
Alan B — Google review
Walked in on the off chance there was a vacant table, was in luck! Stunning massive conservatory to eat in, more like an orangery, was so big light and airy, plenty of space, yet still cosy too. The staff were extremely polite, formal and helpful. There must have been a mark on a knife that the waiter was about to lay down and he immediately took it away, provided a fresh knife and wiped all cutlery before laying them down, I didnt even see a mark must have literally been a speck of dust! Very high standards here, the service and etiquette is above and beyond. The food matches the service, I ordered octopus, I'm not one to be squeamish and I always love to try new foods and octopus has been on my food bucket list for a while. It did not disappoint! It even trumped my old favourite calamari! The chips were amazing, they weren't any old chips, I don't know how they do it but they made them heavenly and I'm not a big fan of chips, usually! My main, a home made lamb burger was divine, perfectly seasoned and cooked, full of flavour, not greasy or tough. A extremely good meal. When I'm next in Oxford I will be coming back to Gees! ❤️

A gem of a restaurant with great service from pleasant and enthusiastic servers. A lovely bright dining area in a large victorian conservatory, dishes are Mediterranean style with an Italian and Spanish flare. We dined in the conservatory but on warm spring, summer or autumn days there is a delightful garden area. Only down side is the lack of parking although there is paid road side bays in the road opposite. Really worth a visit I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, bookings (recommended) for both lunch and dinner, can be made via the phone or their website.

We went here for the first time in over a year - had the same seat and server as last time weirdly. Food was just as good as we remembered. It was my birthday, and having been burdened with a birthday badge to celebrate, Raff(?), our server, took notice and gave me a birthday shot adorned with sprinkles, and later a dessert, all on the house. Such a nice genuine gesture and completely unexpected. The food was great, we had the loaded fries, sorbet, lamb shanks & beef tacos and they’re excellent. travelling almost 60miles to Oxford, we’ll never miss the chance to swing by.

A nice spot for a casual drink or catch-up, though the overall vibe depends a lot on the time of day and the crowd.

Friendly back street pub in Jericho, part of the small local ‘Dodo Pubs’ group. Great service, nicely kept beer (Arkell’s 3B) & a new menu. Excellent burger- don’t miss adding extra bacon - & a cracking pizza.

Best burger in Oxford? It might just be. My Al Capone burger was fantastic. Perfectly cooked and tasted good incredible. Great choice of local beers and a really nice pub with a great atmosphere.

A fascinating selection of books as part of the decor, and a bright and airy atmosphere. We didn't eat on this occasion but it was a welcome refreshment stop on our walk back to the boat on such a hot day!

Didn't come for food so I can't say. The fact that it's CASHLESS is a big no-no for me. Found the place, but not necessarily the staff, to be pretentious. Limited beers available. Just not my thing, but then again I'm probably not theirs either. Don't avoid it, but don't expect much if you're just 'here for the beer'. As a plus they had 2 ciders available 🎉🍏🍎

We booked the library room for a private event with some live music. The pizzas were delicious, the beer flowed and the staff could not have been more obliging! It was a great evening.

A night at the rickety press for a private party. The staff were brilliant, it was so busy and hot and they worked so hard. We sampled garlic bread and pizza and they were DELICIOUS. the decor of the pub is great and fantastic selection of drinks. Will be back to try other food. Defo worth a visit

Normally pretty good but had a poor experience with staff here. Asked for a pint of coke but got a full pint of ice and a 2 second top up of coke FOR £5! I asked for less ice in my drink which came with a look of derision. They obliged but still put a ton of ice in the glass although less than before, poured the first coke into the second and that didn't even make it up to the half pint line (even with the new ice) and then they topped it up. Ok so that's all sorted, a bit salty about the price and having to ask to get something fixed but that's how it goes. UNTIL another staff member commented on why the first was throwing away ice and the first then calls me an idiot and points in my direction.. while I was still at the bar, and clearly in earshot. They both chuckle and think nothing of it. Getting ripped off for £5 for ice, asking for my drink and getting laughed at for wanting the drink I asked for isn't a great experience. Foods still tasty though.

Went on a Sunday night where musicians could join in as long as you had an instrument. What a magical night. Thanks to all who played, my soul was very merry! To the people who came in later in the evening and decided to block the views of the musicians whom they weren’t even looking at or paying attention to MOVE to the other room where there was plenty of space to chit chat. You ruined it for all who were there to see them play. Musicians bravo!!! Warning it does get fairly warm in there. Please check this place out and they are open till late.

Easily my favourite place for a pint in Oxford, whether it's for a quiet one or for one of the live music sessions. Dave and Joe and ALL the staff are amazing. Always feel comfortable and safe here.

Unofficial door staff. When entering on a Tuesday night was presented with an unlicensed door member. This member only became apparent once entering the venue. He then forced my partner, myself and others of the group out the venue with no reasoning. When asked why, and was given a basic answer, to then we requested a manager. The manager and half half on both sides to then realise we were in the right. Our group then had an individual that went inside to use the bathroom and found the actual licensed doormen who said the other bloke is just a regular customer.

Nice traditional pub open late, with live music. Staff, namely the owner Dave, can be problematic. Dave is a engaging talker but he can react badly to fruity humour if he thinks it goes against his woke ideals. He also doesn't like customers to get to drunk, which may not be a bad thing. His son Joe, is always polite, friendly and helpful. His father, while very likeable and entertaining, has an annoying habit of barring customers if he's in a bad mood. Bans start at 4 weeks but can extend to perma-bans. Overall a very good pub with a nice atmosphere and some quirky locals. Just don't get on the wrong side of Dave by making repeated sexual innuendos when he's got out of the wrong side of the bed.
Pranks C — Google review
Absolutely appalling treatment and service from the duty manager and customer posed as a ‘door man’ who threatened and physically pushed my partner on to the street. I have worked in the industry for many years and never have I seen treatment quite like tonight, the customer posed as ‘door staff’ tried to intimidate aswell as physically assault me and my partner all for walking into the pub. I wish to tell you to avoid this place at all costs as much as you possibly can, if you are regulars or visit this pub often please think again next time.

The venue features multiple TV screens for sports enthusiasts to enjoy live fixtures while indulging in a wide selection of real ales, craft beers, wines, and spirits. Went for a drink after work with my friends, this usually quiet place was buzzing with people and nice music playing – very lovely atmosphere!! Went for a drink after shopping by myself. This was a quiet place, with lunchtime people and nice non pop, music playing – lovely atmosphere!! Recently affiliated with the Young Brewery. Tribute Cornish ale on tap. Very Good selection of ales, Youngs original and Matilda's Tears, plus Guinness and G-Zero were on tap. Maybe other Youngs special will be available soon. Nice pub-food menu and good prices for such a convenient location. Bar staff Fibbee was very helpful and others attentive. Worth visiting and will be coming back again when in town.

Absolutely lovely lunch cooked by Chef Rohan. It was served hot, in reasonable waiting time and presented well. I was offered samples of fine ales and served by Bar Person Jack who was so welcoming, friendly and helpful. Other staff member Barat took the time to chat with me at length about how much he loves working here and how he takes pride in getting to know his Punters. My only criticism is that given the age, style and listed status of the building, toilets are down narrow and steep stairs which are obviously not accessible for disabled customers. Other than that it's a gem of a pub typically steeped in ancient history and located along the beautiful architectural stunning views central to Oxford.

The food is absolutely delicious!! I went with a friend who was vegan and there were loads of vegan options. I especially recommend the mushroom pie, it was so tasty and the gravy was delicious! Although the restaurant is a bit out of the way of Oxford center it is definitely worth the walk to have such quality food. 10/10

A real gem! The Gardeners Arms serves gorgeous vegan food – beautifully thought out, high quality, and very generous portions. The mushroom pie was the best I’d ever tasted. The pub itself is cosy and welcoming, with plenty of outdoor seating for sunny days. The service was warm and friendly, and a special mention to the kind staff member who ran after us (half a mile, no less!) with a shopping bag we’d accidentally left behind. Thoughtful touches like that make all the difference. Highly recommended!

Great vegetarian pub. The beer was lovely and the food was fantastic. I got the chili - medium hot and, to my surprise it was really spicy with lots of jalapeños and lots of chopped tomatoes to add on top along with melted cheese. Simply yummy. My husband got the mushroom pie which was loaded with mushrooms and came with chips (I stole a few and they were great). Will come back and try the mushroom pie as it looked very good.

OMG. It was all *so* good, and we both ate too much and still brought home leftovers. Such nice people working there too. You can tell the cooks taste the food and really do their best. I salute you, Gardeners Arms. Best vegan food we've had for many months.

Ambiance nice as a pub. Food quite greasy and a very small portion of vegetables, despite menu description. Chef said no when we asked for extra veg. I’d heard the food was poor here, but thought it was still worth a try. I wouldn’t recommend eating here.

Nice place. We went for dinner. Got to sit in the comfortable back room. Service was excellent and so was the food. Big portions. Drinks were good as well. Well worth going again. Highly recommended. I always like cheerful, chatty wait staff so they always get a better rating from me. One thing to keep in mind the wait staff here only gets the tip if you give it in cash, so carry some cash if you are the tipping kind, I am, but I know there is not a big tipping culture in UK. I would recommend this place. [In the food picture you can see Mexican Chili, Mezze platter and garlic bread with cheese. All veg.]

They made me pay £8 for the worst calamari I’ve ever had in my life. It was only there was only five pieces. And it was like under the dome it tasted horrible
Kique B — Google review
Big Society has gone massively downhill in the last year or so. Previously stand out chicken, tasting phenomenal. Now, chicken strips like you'd get anywhere. Absolutely bog standard. Nothing special at all, and not worth the price. No special flavour, nothing distinctive about it. Whether it's a new company in charge now, or a different factor. Very, very poor.
Sam D — Google review
Big Soc used to have the best menu, both food and drink. Their food menu was simple but so well executed, and their drinks menu was creative. The decor and artwork felt quirky and unique. Urban Village Pubs has changed everything that was good about Big Soc and made it just another franchise with no real soul. What a shame
Annabel W — Google review
Tried the fried pickles which were so so good! Will definitely get again! The sauces were so tasty, the buffalo was so good and the sweet chilli was nice and spicy! The gravy was okay quite like kfc gravy, and the chicken was very crispy and super tender but a little too buttery tasting for my liking, still good but you only needed one tender each. Cocktail was nice too. Great beer garden lots of space.

The new manager is just ridiculous. I was waiting for 20 minutes for some drinks when I ordered trough the app. I was to the till after 15 minutes asking if there was any problem with the payment and he told me in a very rude way that they were busy. But still serving people with orders after me. After that I went again to the till as he told me ' I will bring to you guys ' after that when I come back to him he just said they are there (at the end of the till) expeting that I knew. I reply to him saying that It was not the right place as everyone could touch them or even put something inside but he didnt care at all .

With regular live music and DJ performances, Cafe Baba transforms into a bustling party venue on Friday and Saturday nights. Despite its narrow layout, the bar's distinctive ambiance and wide selection of cocktails make it a popular choice among patrons. Additionally, visitors appreciate the personalized cocktail options available at this eclectic spot.
This is a chilled out bar. Very narrow in build, but the decor makes it all work. It is very different from your standard bar, there are a good range of cocktails available and they taste pretty good. Do be weary, once it does get busy, there is only one toilet so you may have to be patient from time to time. Other than that, it's a great spot. They make my personalised cocktail for me with no trouble. Kudos 👌🏾

British restaurant
"The Eagle and Child" is a historic pub in Oxford, known for its association with famous writers CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien. Dating back to 1650, the pub offers traditional English food such as beef and bone marrow pie, slow-cooked lamb shank pie, blade of beef pie, mushroom and stilton pie, venison and Malbec pie, and chicken chorizo and cider pie.
The wonderful thing about the U.K. and Oxford specifically is that it is very rich in history. This wonderful pub is a great example of this history and the characters that paraded its streets and visited its establishments. If you are a C.S. Lewis fan or JRR Tolkien, this is a must visit in Oxford. The food was very good in the realm of pub fair. When in a pub…of course choose a beer - have a pint. Of note, Christmas Dinner options and I assume other holidays. Well worth considering. The ambience gets a 10 out of 10…I stretched and gave service a 4 but was probably a three. Maybe caught them at a bad time. Definitely recommend!
Scott H — Google review
“One Pub to Rule Them All!” Ah, The Eagle and the Child! Where else can you sip an ale and feel like Gandalf might just pop in for a pint? This is the legendary spot where Tolkien and C.S. Lewis had their “Inklings” meetings. I went in hoping to absorb some genius by osmosis… and came out just tipsy enough to feel like I had! Only complaint? No wizards on staff.
Dali D — Google review
So great to see this place, but it is closed right now. Go across the street to Lamb and Flag to and get a pint at one of Lewis and Tolkien’s other spots with great memorabilia on the walls.

It was the most authentical pub I have ever been to and I was to a lot. For me it is a special place as I'm a huge fan of both Tolkien and Lewis. I enjoyed the food, cider and ale. The staff was nice and helpful. The place has its charm. But it is really tiny, I strongly recommend to make a reservation. You can't make a reservation on Saturday.

Small and cosy traditional pub, excellent food menu. I went there as part of my Tolkien tour in Oxford, it’s definetely a must if you are a big fan of the Professor.
Casualmente B — Google review
Great, authentic English pub. The food and atmosphere is top notch. It’s no wonder why The Inklings (incl CS Lewis & JRR Tolkien) made this their meeting spot.
Kenneth C — Google review
This pub is well known because The Inklings (Tolkien, CS Lewis, and GK Chesterton) used to meet here and workshop their writing weekly. It’s about 10 minutes walking from campus, easy. As a pub, it’s got plenty of tables, and we had no trouble being seated. This is a Nicholson’s pub, so if you like their usual fare, you’ll like the food here. They also have a special pie menu. The lentil and sweet potato pie was fantastic!

Intended to visit The Lamb and Flag across the road but their kitchen closed at an early 830pm. Which brought us serendipitously to this local gem. A proper historical pub full of atmosphere. Decent selection of cooked food and wide selection of beers. Bar staff were extremely friendly and patient too. We were just a tad amused when they wanted to check the identification cards of us 30 year old blokes. Tavern policy I suppose

Bar and music/comedy venue on the Cowley Road. Everything's on the ground floor which is good for access. Could do with a few more beer options in both the bar & venue, but prices are reasonable. Music venue is probably around 300 for a gig. Good visibility from most angles to the stage, but if you're short, you'll want to be at the front. Worth keeping an eye on what's coming up. Takes about 20 mins to walk from the centre of Oxford to here.

Nice bar. Especially outside area. Cheaper drinks than other places on the Cowley Road. It's a shame I had to leave such a bad review. But waiting over 1 hour 20 minutes for 5 Chicken Goujons isn't acceptable and to not even get an apology was a disgrace.

Food was inedible. Paid extra for sweet potato chips but had to ask for them when the meals arrived. Also had to ask for beetroot coleslaw which also didn’t arrive with the meals despite being part of the advertised meal. Chicken escalope was so over cooked only a quarter of it could be choked down. Burger and pizza were both not much better. I wasn’t expecting Jamie Oliver but l didn’t think l would get Mrs Cropley either!

Avoid this place at all costs. My wife and I came here for lunch on a Saturday, and it was completely dead. There were only 2 other groups getting drinks. We placed a food order, a burger and a pizza. Since it was dead, we expected the service to be pretty fast, plus a burger and a pizza do not take long to make. 35 minutes go by and there's no sign of our food. We asked someone working there how much longer it would be and we were told it was going to be another 10 minutes. Absolute joke. We were on vacation so we had a schedule to keep to and so just left. 25 pounds down the drain. Pathetic excuse for a restaurant.

Lovely drinks & affordable. However, I am very disappointed in the disabled toilet currently being used as a storage area. Not very inclusive for the disabled community, as you wouldn’t be able to use the toilet safety as you can’t reach grab rails and also the amount of clutter doesn’t make it an accessible toilet.

Such a quality establishment. Not even a craft beer drinker, but we always used to go for the vibes. Cool setting, friendly staff, owner's top draw, always made us feel welcome. Piece of advice: ditch the pizza and get back the food vendors. The joy of it was the variety of food you'd get week in, week out. Their pizza isn't a patch on white horse pizza box that used to come semi-regularly. Big fan, but was better a couple years back.

Belter spot. Worth the trip out for some tasty beer and great vibes. I went as part of the free taster event for the new blenderhead collaboration beer. It was fantastic beer. There were welcoming staff and the pool table is a nice touch nestled amongst the board games.

Love this venue great space for the amigos to play there vinyl's and for people to dance the night away . Had a great time playing my vinyl's DJ Dee was in the building . 9/12/2023 Great bar with lots of different beers to try if that's your thing . Also outside the front door are freshly made 🍕. X
Denise B — Google review
Honestly found the beer quite sour, the most drinkable is the lager alternative. Nice dancefloor, WCs are mostly chipboard but the posters are cool. Only had the food once but wouldn't really have it again as the bacon wasn't cooked in the pizza beforehand. Good parking tho and it's not near any residential so music can be played till quite late. Comfy sofas and friendly bar staff.

Such a chill place to hang out. Reminds me of living in East London and Copenhagen in my younger days. Wide range of beers, great pizzas and loads of events. Music always seems spot on too.

Pub
Nestled on the outskirts of Wheatley, The Cricketers Arms is a vibrant pub that perfectly blends traditional charm with modern amenities. This lively establishment features a delightful kids' play area, making it family-friendly, while sports enthusiasts can catch their favorite games on TV. With an inviting garden ideal for BBQs and outdoor gatherings, it's a great spot to soak up the sun. The atmosphere is enhanced by regular karaoke nights and live music events that keep the energy high.
Had a great time visiting this Pub! We went for a couple drinks and came out with a few new friends! They have a Dart board, Pool table, and Outdoor seating so you can roam around with your beer. The staff was friendly and so were the customers, we had an AWESOME time hanging out here!
Lori M — Google review
The blonde lady behind the bar was incredibly disrespectful treated me as if I was less than others when me and my kids went there to have something to eat with there uncle and then continued to watch me the whole time if you have kids I do not recommend going as she will make you feel uncomfortable and not wanted I would definitely recommend going there when she’s not there she is very rude and doesn’t seem to know how to treat her customers right otherwise beautiful pub
Kaya-princess T — Google review
Average pub grub and not trendy but it's got what you need, roaring fires make it more cost than it would be, staff are pleasant, good ale and has a pool table and machines. Oh and in summer a bit garden at the back - great for kids.
Melanie J — Google review
Great cosy pub friendly great service brilliant food and reasonable prices. It's worth a visit.

Stopped off during a Sunday cycle ride, a little gem of a pub. Nice friendly staff and atmosphere, large garden, and well kept beers. We hadn’t booked in for Sunday lunch, but fortunately staff went out of their way to accommodate us…..and lunch didn’t disappoint, living up to their great Google reviews. Excellent beer. Excellent food. Excellent value. Highly recommend.

First time going here. Very nice pub. Pool table and dart board available and a garden as well, I have to say the toilets were the cleanest I have ever seen or smelt!!! Staff friendly. My only criticism was the fact we arrived there around d 4pm and there was no food available which doesn't quite make sense to me, we asked and they only serve for around 2 hours. They only open at 2pm.
Richard S — Google review
Traditional pub with hearty pub grub menu and friendly owners. Great pool table and darts board as well as large garden space at the back. On revised opening hours and a pared down menu on day of visit.

Bar
The Bridge Nightclub is a popular late-night DJ club and lounge bar in Oxford, known for its lively crowd and frequent student nights. Luxe Saturdays at The Bridge offer an extravagant experience with four floors of music, including D&B, bassline, tech house, reggaeton, urban tunes, and more. Despite long queues, the vibrant atmosphere and ample smoking areas make it worth the wait.
Nice place. Good atmosphere, brilliant helpful staff

I only went there for one party, the drink was nice although a bit pricey, but I had a good time and it wayy bigger than any other cub I have been in Oxford
Hairvolution A — Google review
The worst ‘night club’ I’ve ever been to. Make you pay to get in then over charge for drinks. Which are ridiculously limited. No choice. Just basic stuff. Staff can barely speak English. Do not recommend. Music is questionable.
Sades “ — Google review
Where can I start? Is overcrowded and you had one floor open Door staff were very rude and disrespectful. Chasing me through the club to make sure I take my jacket off. toilets were disgusting not clean at all

Charged £20 for two double vodka cokes. Apparently “new rule past midnight”. Going to kill the business. Student night aswell. Disgusting.

On the VIP list, and after enduring garbage music and someone snagging my wrist band I was put in a headlock trying to leave and almost forced down stairs in the headlock which would have almost certainly broken my neck. To reiterate I wanted to leave due to the terrible drinks and music and just wanted my phone and wallet off my friend but was forced out and treated like a second class citizen for being Northern

Pub
The King's Arms in Oxford is a historic university hangout that has been around since 1607. Located near Radcliffe Square and the Bodleian Library, it attracts both locals and tourists. The pub offers classic British pub food and a variety of cask ales. Despite its popularity, the pub maintains its charm with cozy alcoves in the back bar for a more relaxed experience. The menu features hearty dishes like rabbit and cider pie as well as award-winning sausages.
We popped in for dinner with friends. The staff were friendly. The food was delicious. Starters with pub bites were phenomenal. I ordered trout but I got salmon but highly recommend this dish, really delicious. Chicken and leek pie was okay. Sausage with mushed potato dish was great. Fish and chips was good. Dessert dishes were delicious.

Delicious food!!! Excellent taste!!! Nice beer. Very kind and helpful staff. Central location near major attractions. We totally recommend this old style British pub to enjoy traditional flavours!
Marcos V — Google review
Nice spot on a hot day to stop for a pint and a few bar snacks. Old pub with long history you can read about. I was concerned the pub would be very busy given the tourists around but we found it to be fairly quite with plenty of seating inside. Good ales on tap (Young's bitter and Tribute Cornish ale) - really nice! We had a pork pie and a scotch egg, the egg was not runny inside though. Overall the food was good and we particularly liked the Oxford sauce.
Rupinder M — Google review
As night fell, we walked to the King's Arms for a pint. The pub had already caught our attention on previous evenings with its inviting lighting, standing out in the otherwise dimly lit city center. The evening was warm, so we picked up our pints inside and sat out on the terrace to enjoy the good beer and the magical atmosphere of the area. There's something truly special about Oxford at night. The service was ok and we got our drinks quickly. The restrooms were clean. The pub also serves food in its cozy indoor spaces, though we didn’t eat this time. It’s easy to imagine how, during term time, this and other pubs are full of life. The King's Arms is a great spot for an evening pint.
Heikki K — Google review
Beautiful pub in the heart of Oxford. We popped in without a booking and managed to find space, but we recommend booking if you want food, as it gets very busy. Stuart was very helpful with food suggestions. Pie was the star of the show! 10/10 will be back
Marta F — Google review
Not only does this pub have a great ambience and comfortable seating, the food was delish! Scotch egg was flavorful, mains were nice portion with tender suffolks greens. Would recommend the chicken leek pie and bangers & mash.
Comede E — Google review
Perhaps my partner and I came at a busy time and therefore didn’t experience the best that this pub had to offer. The service wasn’t ideal as we didn’t get any menus. The scotch egg was tasty but overcooked, and the haddock batter tasted so sweet like a dessert batter. The curry sauce was also slightly watered down, but otherwise the food was decent.
Z — Google review
Good food as well the service, meet pie was excellent, same for the beer. Reservation suggested but not necessary. You can share the table with others.

Pub
Nestled in the heart of Oxford, the White Horse is a charming pub that attracts an older crowd, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere. This venue not only serves as a delightful spot for traditional pub fare but also boasts an impressive history. Just a short distance away lies the iconic chalk horse etched into White Horse Hill in Uffington, which dates back to the Bronze Age. While best appreciated from above, this hill offers stunning views and makes for an ideal picnic location.
Perhaps my favourite Oxford city centre pub now. Always great beers, cheerful atmosphere and outside seating too. It helps that it is very Morris dancer friendly - and that we brought our umbrellas!
Peter C — Google review
Scores most highly as a traditional pub in both style and layout. The cramped and narrow layout creates the perfect old world atmosphere. Well worth a visit for the experience. Many films and tv shows have used this pub as a location and once you visit you’ll understand why. It’s completely unique and certainly an experience you won’t forget.
CityStrider — Google review
This pub isn't just another pub in Oxford; it's one of the iconic locations from the TV series Inspector Morse. For fans like me, The White Horse is a place of worship in honor of Morse and his spin-off, "Lewis." They also have a great selection of beers and the best fish and chips in town. Cheers!

AVOID - AWFUL SERVICE - We order 2 Shandy and the “manager” who was the bartender serve couple of sprite with very little beer, didn’t mix Half and half, I asked and complain and the “manager” refuse to change it, when he notice I was recording he agreed to change it. Very disappointed

Very nice traditional pub in Oxford. Feels very authentic. Watch your head since the clearance is limited. Excellent location on Broad street.
Jean-Francois D — Google review
Very traditional small pub, kinda a hidden gem. Food and drinks are good, but don't expect a huge variety. Home of a lot of series and movies. My parents ventured from a great distance as fans of Endeavour and Morse. They don't take bookings, but we could sit at the very table they were shooting the scenes from. Huge shootout to Oliver, who gave us a tip when to come and was very helpful and kind throughout our whole visit. One of the most memorable stop on our trip today and he had a huge part in it. Big kudos to him, he is a legend.

Great old English pub, where they filmed inspector Morse
Julian C — Google review
A lovely pub in decor and design, but all is ruined by the potty mouthed bar staff, who were more intent on talking amongst themselves at full volume drowning the noise of the clientele.. than any form of service that would make one feel welcome.. Interesting to hear about how many kids she is going to have amd how she is going to kill her future husband.. thankfully with no ring yet on her finger, I urge the men of the surrounding area to steer clear, otherwise they may end up as a case for a previous patron .. Inspector Morse!

Located in Marston, The Victoria Arms is a charming riverside pub situated on the former ferry site. Boasting a mooring area for punts and offering a delightful Modern European menu, this establishment prides itself on its home-cooked food. The chef is known for accommodating special dietary needs and even creating custom dishes upon request. With picturesque views of the River Cherwell and surrounding fields, visitors can unwind in the large beer garden or by parking their punt nearby.
One of the best pubs in Oxford. Great food and the location is amazing. Staff are very friendly and happy to help. Lots of punters too, well worth a trip on a sunny day!

We enjoyed sundowners and cappuccinos on Sunday in this beautiful historical venue. There have been quite a few changes since my last visit a few years ago but the hospitality remains the same, absolutely delightful 😊 Served by Will and a great team, we were spoilt with the proficient, friendly and welcoming service this pub has to offer. Set in the tranquil grounds of the Old Marston Cherwell Valley, it is one of the best that Oxfordshire has to offer. I'm looking forward to returning to try their Sunday Roast! Thank you Will it was an absolute pleasure meeting you. You're a credit to the Team!

Recently discovered this pub in Oxford, it is well and truly Oxfords best kept secret as they say. A brilliant atmosphere and the staff are lovely. The location is beautiful. Food options are great, my wife was very happy with her BLT from the specials and I will be returning for those chicken thighs I had the other week!
Roger M — Google review
I came here with my family for lunch earlier today and had such a lovely time. The food was amazing, atmosphere was just perfect, the view was beautiful and the service was so friendly and welcoming. Couldn't be happier with my experience and would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of visiting such a lovely pub. You won't be disappointed. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon out.

Have been a customer for many many years and had many family drinks and dinners there however will not go there again unless there is a change management as the current landlord/manager was so rude and aggressive towards me. I had dared to pump up my paddleboard up in the car park ready for a quick pre dinner paddle whilst the rest of my family drank in the garden and chose from the menu. I agree that the pump is rather noisy for all of four minutes but there were less than 10 other customers in the pub on a weeknight evening and yet the manager charged at me and yelled at me as if I’d done something terrible. I’d have thought the river side being this pubs only USP they should embrace and not shun the river users. Suggest other paddlers keep well away.
Angela J — Google review
As the hottest week we’ve seen in a while, the staff and management have been terrific. This place keeps getting better. The pub was rammed with people coming along the river yesterday. The staff were welcoming and helpful even to those who were a little rude and inconsiderate. Dog friendly and paddle board friendly, plus great staff in extreme working temperatures, make this a top location. We had a limoncello spritz and a lemon mousse. Refreshing in the heat! Always a pleasure to visit. Five stars again from us!

We came to Oxford for 2 nights at an Airbnb, the host recommended this restaurant. We were 2 adults and 2 older children. We wanted an authentic English pub experience and this was sublime. We came for 2 nights in a row, the staff were excellent and very friendly. The food was very good: we had the steak with garlic butter and fries. The kids had the hamburger and the chicken filet. It is very clean, beautiful decor, the food comes fast. This was our best restaurant during our English roadtrip! We asked for a quiet table and they gave that to us.

Recommended by a coeliac friend and it didn’t disappoint. Everything was absolutely delicious and you couldn’t tell it was gluten free. So many choices! Will definitely be coming back. Very dog friendly. I thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food and the service
