We were lucky enough to arrive in time to meet the Chef at front of house! We were a little early but he was so incredibly warm and welcoming, he didn’t mind because he welcomed us in regardless. The meals we had were absolutely lovely! I don’t normally enjoy BBQ-styled meals but ohhh the BBQ Hunters Chicken just melted in your mouth. It was MWAH -chefs kiss- Our cocktails were amazing! Service was quick and staff were lovely and accommodating. The atmosphere was gentle. The interior was beautifully decorated. So glad we dined here!

Beautiful atmosphere right at the river Itchen. Lovely interior and outside space. The quality of the food was outstanding and so was the service. We'd specifically point out Shaun and the barman who's name we unfortunately forgot to ask. It was a great experience and we'll be - for sure - coming back!

The pub is lovely, especially the outside garden. The food is nice and the service was good. The one thing I must say is it’s a bit pricey but I suppose this is normal nowadays.

Tried this place through online reviews. We had a riverside terrace & garden seating on a nice sunny day which was great. Their mezze platter was mediocre. There was not much else on the menu that caught my eye that I would have liked to try. The service and staff are Friendly. Was a nice place but not for me, but would recommend to try it. What is not for me may not be the same for others so do try it once if ever in Winchester.

The terrace on top of river gives an excellent atmosphere, staff is helpful and nice. And you get get food outside served quickly, even at the end of the terrace. Would definitely come back.

Pub grub but a level above. There were 4 of us, each with something different, and everyone said what they had ordered was fantastic. Give it a try. You can't bash the Bishop.

A popular place for all ages. There are outside seating with tables and little huts for a more private settings. The huts were a bit dark when we visited but perhaps they'll be lit up when it gets dark. We couldn't find any switch to do so. There's also a space between the indoor and outdoor setting if you want to feel the outdoor but also sheltered if the rain comes.

I don't normally leave reviews but I'm going to make an exception here as it is well deserved. Stumbled across the Royal Oak on a visit to Winchester. This is a lovely old pub, perhaps the oldest in England, steeped in history. We sat in the old cellar area downstairs. Food was excellent, I had the Chicken Kiev and my wife had the Duck Hash, compliments to the chef and kitchen staff. The staff were really nice and very attentive, checking on us several times. This really added to our day out in Winchester. Well done!

Best Pub in Winchester! Always a great experience here — the food is consistently spot-on, and the drinks are absolutely banging. We visited Winchester for the first time during graduation and decided to stop by The Royal Oak, knowing it’s one of the oldest pubs in England. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the drinks were great. After seeing the appealing food menu, we even cancelled our lunch reservation elsewhere to eat here. Despite being told there would be a 35-minute wait due to how busy it was, we didn’t mind at all. For starters, we both ordered the chicken wings, and I followed up with the house burger while my partner chose the sirloin steak. Unfortunately, the wings were underwhelming—the sauce was simply thrown on top, leaving only one wing properly coated. When the mains arrived, they looked fantastic, but sadly, the taste didn’t live up to the presentation. The burger was extremely dry and tough, with barely any apple BBQ sauce, and a few red onions. It certainly wasn’t “drenched in burger cheese sauce” as the menu promised. The only saving grace was the pork belly. My partner’s steak was over-seasoned with pepper and so chewy that it was difficult to eat. The onion rings we ordered as a side were also disappointing—wet and doughy, making them inedible. It was a huge letdown, especially since the service was excellent. I understand the place was busy, but for a bill over £60, the quality of food should be far better. This was a disappointing end to an otherwise enjoyable trip.

Lovely old pub, food is delicious and very much welcomed on a cold and wet day! Staff are friendly and the place has a good atmosphere.

We had a lovely pub lunch here – the food was delicious, especially the nachos which were absolutely amazing. The service was friendly and efficient, and the pub itself is such a cool spot, with a dark and historic atmosphere that makes it really unique. A great place for food.

Love this place. Delicious food and long history, which they remind you of throughout the place. Definitely check out the cellar seating area, it's cozy and interesting. Try the house burger. Subtracting one star from the food, but it's really because I thought the house bitter ale was watery and lacked flavor.

What a find ! Located in the perfect of places, adjacent to the Cathedral. Ambience was lovely. Service excellent. Food delicious. If you’re hungry in Winchester and don’t want to spend a fortune, you must visit. We will again.

A lively city centre pub with a great range of drinks and food (although I didn’t eat anything on this occasion). There was live entertainment which was great and plenty of people spilling out onto the quiet streets outside.

Good cosy atmosphere but food was so disappointing. Ordered sandwiches with chips at £12 - huge potential to be good as fillings sounded interesting (a beer battered haddock, a cheese & caramelised onion, a pesto avocado olive sun dried tomato, BUT completely let down by the poor quality bread (bitty and not fresh)! Sun-dried tomato pesto sandwich was overly salty. Bread not fresh. Would expect a sourdough bread for this price which would have matched the more premium filling ingredients too... What a let down. The triple cooked chips were brilliant though, crispy well made. Service is good. Such a pity.

Great food (especially the pies), had to wait a little for food (granted this was peak lunch time) to come out but was worth the wait. Staff were friendly, and due to delay in food gave us some complimentary soft drinks.

The landlady was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We arrived after doing a History Hunt experience around Winchester and our discount voucher at the pub was still kindly accepted, despite the fact that nobody else had tried to use one in over 5 years! We particularly loved the depiction on the wall of William Walker himself fighting a sea monster in the waters under the cathedral. Marvellous place, and good beer.

Lovely pub with welcoming staff and good food. They were also very friendly with the dog as they gave him some treats which was much appreciated.

We went for dinner on a Thurs eve, busy but not too busy, really good service at the table for food & drinks 🍺🍔 We had Sausage & mash + Burger & chips, really tasty. Recommended 👍🏻

Super friendly staff, they have BBQ nights, the atmosphere is on the next level, they really nailed it. I recommend going in ordering something and just exploring the building, it's really weird and there are always new things you can find. Every room is different, I don't even know how to describe it It's just weird but in the best way possible :D

This place defines "quirky". Can't really describe it - so check out photos and set for yourself. And then go visit. Great selection of drinks. Amazing decor

An eccentric pub that offers a good range of beers, ciders and spirits. The staff are friendly, and there’s plenty of seating. The highlight has to be the decor - there’s really nothing else like it in Winchester, and you have to see it for yourself! They’ve got outdoor seating for the summer, and lots of fire places for a cozy winter catch up with friends. They’ve do food on weekends I believe, but this does change.

Haven't sampled the delicious delicacies but the lager and taxidermy is 10/10. Stuffed foxes, giraffes and even sea horses! This is similar to the natural history museum, but with lots of real ales and tasty stouts.

Nice pub with a good selection of ales and cidar. Quirky decorating gives it an unique atmosphere. Fair warning, there are quite a few stuffed animals around.

So, I have conflicted feelings about this. I've been to this pub a few times and while I can say the decor is great and very entertaining; it hardly makes up for the sub-par service, over priced drinks, general lack of hygiene, and unwelcoming attitude of the staff. There is a specific bartender that I have noticed making racist comments, including squinting her eyes and doing accents. I don't know her name but she's blonde and an older woman. The bar is incredibly sticky, normal to an extent in a pub I know. However there were flies constantly trying to land in the drinks we were served. It was actually disgusting. The staff I noticed were also on their phones, not cleaning even the visible spills and dirty glasses that were in all the rooms we looked in. Eventually we sat in the garden courtyard area, and the seating is very pleasant. Again its a lovely looking pub. In addition, this pub is lacking in facilities for baby changing and accessible toilets. There are multiple steps in order to get to the toilets which isn't ideal if you are with someone whose mobility is restricted. On other trips we've gotten food, the best bit of any visit and the only reason we come back. The pulled pork is to die for. Unfortunately the food vendor is not a part of the pub and is instead an external contractor. For this reason I will not be including the wonderful service and attitude of that man in this review.

No food, but great atmosphere, beers and luxury seating. The pub allows you to order in and they provide plates and cutlery! What not to like...? We had a excellent time last Thursday and really appreciated the staff and service. Loads of drinks options to go with our pizza, chicken and chips 💪🏻 This pub is a little gem of a place, amazing and such a short walk from town and relatively quite for central Winchester.

Great pub! Stopped by last night for a large glass of red wine prior to meeting a friend. Great atmosphere and incredibly comfortable wingback chairs in which to relax. Highly recommended the next time you visit Winchester.

Before I came to Winchester with a very good friend of mine, I looked for sports bars in the area. We went to the Mucky Duck and were welcomed by the owners and the locals. We had a cracking time! It’s a fantastic pub with great atmosphere and great sports coverage. Great outdoor space with tv as well. We’ll be coming back without fail, I’d thoroughly recommend this pub in you’re in the area. Class pub, lots of tellies showing multiple games, got Sky Sports+, lovely staff, great seating and setup both inside and out! Highly recommend.

My first visit at a Rick Stein in Winchester for dinner and the food was mediocre for me. The Daal I had ordered was too bland in flavour since I prefer a bit more spice to my food. The Fish and Shashimi was great. The starter portions are small but since we were sharing and ordered different dishes between us we got to try more dishes, the mains are a decent amount. That said, the service truly stood out: Micky who looked after us was extremely friendly, attentive, and warm from start to finish. The staff made the evening feel special, even if the dishes didn’t quite shine. Worth a visit for the atmosphere and hospitality.

Restaurant Review This restaurant is a solid choice. The staff are smart, friendly, and very attentive, and the service is quick. The food is clearly fresh and handmade, right down to the sauces, and while it isn't Michelin-star quality, it's tasty and fresh—perfect for a satisfying meal. However, a few minor details could be improved. The bread was served cold with rock-solid butter, which was a bit of a letdown. While the fish and chips were fresh and tasty, you can find better options in London. Overall, it's a great spot that deserves a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

This is our second time we have set lunch at a Rick Stein’s eatery. Yet our experience this time is kind of disappointing. The crust of chicken Katsu curry is crispy at all and the curry sauce is too sweet and too few. The chocolate pavé is also too salty in my humble opinion. However, I must admit that we have not tried its a la carte menu and dishes for the others tables do look far more appealing.

Some of the best food I've eaten at a Restaurant. Give this place a Michelin star already! Incredibly tasty Scallops, Seafood curry and a 'Winchester Pudding' which was a lovely local touch and paired perfectly with the accompanying clotted cream. Yes, it's expensive but it's worth every penny. Special mention goes out to Ali Ali, our excellent waiter.

Had lunch here for my dad's birthday. We had a great time. The food was delicious. I would recommend the shellfish Ragout!

Came along to celebrate our 33rd wedding Anniversary. We were not disappointed. mussels and scollops were beautiful, best ive had. Haddock and chips with mashed peas, absolutely beautiful, my husband doesn't like mushy peas, but the peas were more like a garden peas mash. overall our experience here was perfect. Staff are friendly and attentive. Highly recommend.

Oddly the food we had tonight, Following the re-opening was genuinely amazing. Mixed grill and all the meat was cooked properly. The price does not do the quality justice at all. It's our regular pub so we will be back but the improvement is awesome.

Where to start... I came over for one beer and ended up meeting a bunch of amazing people and waitresses, especially a girl called Jess. I ate and amazing burger. Very satisfied, hope to come back soon.

We visited this pub for dinner on Friday, August 15th at around 8:30 pm, and the experience was extremely disappointing. They had a full menu displayed, but when we went to order, the only option available was pizza. That was inconvenient, but not the biggest issue. The bartender, a blonde lady working that night, was incredibly rude from the start. Even while serving simple drinks like Coca-Cola, she was rolling her eyes, swearing at coworkers, and visibly irritated as more customers came in. It made the whole atmosphere uncomfortable. When we placed our order, her attitude got worse. She asked for our table number, but we were sitting outside and there were no numbers. When we explained this, she said (with clear annoyance) that she would have to come outside “looking like a lost puppy” to figure out whose food was whose. To make matters worse, a group who had pushed in front of us at the bar got their pizzas first. When their food was brought out, the server told them, “If they’re yours, they’re yours. If they’re not, then someone goes without.” They took the pizzas, and as a result, one of ours was missing. When we asked about it, we were told, “That’s it.” She then offered us a completely different pizza, claiming ours was already given away. No apology, no refund, and no attempt to make it right. All in all, the service was appalling—unprofessional, rude, and careless. I will not be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Staying overnight close-by so pre-booked a table for 3 big people + 1 smaller one! Didn't get off to a great start when could give us either of the two Green King draft beers (bare in mind this is effectively a GK pub!!!), or a pitcher of Pimm's as they had none - in the height of summer, darn sarth!!!!! Anyway, on t'grub. Good rescue here County. Good mixed grill, burger and lasagne, but bit warm. Felt for the guy behind the bar trying to make the best out of a bad job!!! Never mind county, better next time - not!

I went into this pub after dropping my daughter back at uni, very clean and friendly place. Placed my order at the bar and was interested with the pickled watermelon the server said is was very nice and it went well with the battered haloumii. I also wanted to know where the toilets were as it wasn't obvious and she was helpful with her directions. Think her name was Phoebe, but I all the staff were friendly and the pickled watermelon was lovely. Will definitely come again when I'm down next.

I have enjoyed the Karaoke in Alfie’s until 3am many times with my friends. I love the horny Smurf cocktails and we usually end up getting either a burger or dirty fries at the end of the night. The staff are very cheerful for 3am as well!!

Came in with my friends on the bank holiday weekend. They had a UV party on and free face paint and glow sticks at the bar. My friends went a bit mad with them to be honest but we all looked great under the UV lights on the dancefloor. We also managed to get some burgers and dirty fries at 2am.

We popped in for a quick drink on Saturday afternoon and ended up staying for a couple of hours in the garden. We had a couple of different cocktails and ended up ordering a burger and some dirty fries. Both were very nice. The garden had a great atmosphere and was quite full in the early evening. We will definitely come back again when we return to Winchester.

Very rude and quite aggressive female bartender . I ordered a tea and a coffee and she turned up with two coffees. I said I had ordered a tea and she argued with me. My companion explained that she had heard me order a tea and I don’t drink coffee. Eventually after a lengthy argument she offered to change the drink begrudgingly . I told her not to bother and left it. She was also very abrupt with a lady with an assistance dog who had to show her paperwork. I will never set foot in there again. And why can’t you pay with cash which is a legal tender!!!!!

We held a small gathering at the Westgate after our legal wedding ceremony across the road and it was brilliant, we booked the garden but sadly the weather took a turn so they reserved a back-up inside area for us which was perfect. The food platters were great and the staff took good care of us, particularly with some last minute dietaries we communicated, thank you for your help and contributing to our special day :)

Ben always brings great energy and creates a fun, lively atmosphere that keeps us coming back. Even though my family and I don't always score high, we still have a fantastic time every week just enjoying the night. We've sampled the food a few times too, and it’s consistently delicious. Dropped in for a meal and drinks as in the vicinity. Good food and beers, wife had a couple of cheeky wines. Good pub,with great atmosphere and lots going on. Staff efficient and courteous. Well worth a visit, would definitely return.

We had our wedding at the Westgate and it was the exact day we had planned for. We wanted causal but cool, no fuss, small and intimate but with some additional touches to make it our day. Ben and the team surpassed our expectations. WE had the best day (and totally smooth run up, no stress, nothing was an issue, if we had changes there were no problems!) and our guests also said “it was the best wedding they’ve been to”. Thank you Team Westgate, especially Ben. Superb service! X

The staff were absolutely amazing – so attentive, friendly and welcoming – and the food was simply delicious. Amazing place to stay! Staff are lovely to walk in and see a smile and good conversation they tell u about winchester and what it has around the stay is amazing ! So comfortable and lovely food to go with it i wont stay no where else when visiting! Highly recommend!! Its got a warm atmosphere! What a beautiful little place must try!

Lovely setting for lunch. We sat outside and watched the world go by. The waitress was lovely and really helpful. They had a separate vegan and vegetarian menu with plenty of choice. The food was delicious, so were the cocktails.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend the afternoon tea. We really wanted it to be knock out and the look and ambience was great. We scored each item on the cake stand and the savoury items and really couldn’t score anything over a 4/10. The chicken and truffle brioche was a very curious flavour, egg sandwich bland and the bread dense , the smoked salmon in the choux pastry lacked balance and over salted. Crème brule had no caramel crunch on top, it was just all liquid, scones were small and over cooked making them very dry on the outside. The centre was just about ok. That’s probably enough of the negative. There are positives. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the overall look of the items and decoration was very nice. The food looked like it was good from the look of it. I don’t think it helped that the afternoon tea seemed to of been prepared long in advance and put in the fridge.

A lovely experience. I came for breakfast with my family and we were all amazed from the get-go. The service couldn’t have been better, our waiter was attentive and kind. Our food was delicious (and I was pleasantly surprised with an extra dessert). I would definitely recommend, and I plan on coming back to experience the same place for dinner.

We had the most lovely evening! Georgia has been looking after us in the most perfect way. I can recommend everything but particularly the zucchini fritters, blackened cod and the creme brûlée - maybe the best one I have ever had!

We visited to celebrate a graduation and had pre-selected the graduation menu when booking. However, when we were seated, we were only given the à la carte menu, and I had to request the correct one. Once sorted, the food itself was very nice — though a few dishes weren’t quite to my personal taste. I ordered the chips, which unfortunately reminded me of pub-style chips, but at a much higher price. The steak was cooked well but came with no sides, which all had to be ordered separately. Service was friendly but quite slow at times; it took around 20 minutes just to pay the bill, and by then most of our group had already left. In fact, my husband had to go and find someone so we could settle up — if we hadn’t been honest, we probably could have walked out unnoticed. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but the experience could be improved with more attentive service and better value for money.

The food was really good @# was the venue and it's everything you would expect of the Ivy group. However, the service was extremely slow and we had to keep asking for things as they were not brought out. Drinks, Apperatiis, starters etc. Evening though they took some money off the bill as they acknowledged the fell short, there was still mistakes with the items on the bill. In summary, not the greatest experience...

Myself and my partner had a reservation here for our four year anniversary. The staff were very friendly upon arrival and wished us a happy anniversary as I mentioned it in the booking notes. The service was quick and efficient and the food was absolutely divine. We were even treated to an anniversary dessert on the house, which was a massive surprise but much appreciated. An absolutely marvellous experience as I would definitely be coming again!

Came for bottomless brunch at 4pm. We weren’t entirely sure what cocktail to order to told the waiter/barman (Tina/Oscar) to choose whatever we were drinking and bring cocktails up sporadically, every single one of them hit the spot. After their shift finished Tina and Isaiah took over and looked after us wonderfully keeping us topped up the whole way through. Splendid experience and well worth the service charge plus cash tip they received 😊😊😊 x

Phil was the best waiter I’ve had in my whole life, no exaggeration. The food was exceptional. You guys honestly need to give him a pay rise or promotion.

We had a fantastic time at Turtle Bay this evening. The food was unreal, it tasted absolutely amazing! On top of that the service was impeccable. Especially from our server Zak- he was such a bright, lovely person and made our night. In fact every member of staff was so polite and helpful. 10/10 for Turtle Bay Winchester. We can’t wait to be back 🥰

Had an amazing time at Turtle Bay for bottomless brunch for my friend’s hen do! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing and the drinks started flowing quickly. A special shoutout to Eloise, who made the whole experience even better. She was incredibly efficient, always making sure our glasses were topped up without us needing to ask. She was also friendly and genuinely warm, checking in with us regularly and making sure everything was spot-on. The food was delicious and the cocktails were fresh and strong — you definitely get good value for money. Would absolutely come back again. Four of us visited for dinner and had a great evening. Nice, spacious venue. Our server, Sebastian was excellent. He made sure we all received our food at the same time and was extremely apologetic about running out of mac and cheese! The bbq wings were flavoursome and the curry goat had plenty of fire in its belly! I'd recommend the Reggae Rum Punch - it had a good amount of rum so lived up to it's name. I would return to this branch of Turtle Bay.

I am new to the area I came across this pub by accident and I’m so pleased that I did. I have given five stars and each star is on merit. I was met with a warm genuine welcome. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The bar was spotless. The glasses were spotless and the landlord showed me the vast array of choices to drink. I chose a Guinness. It was brought to my table and beautifully cold and drawn. I asked when the kitchen was open and I was brought over a menu which looked delicious. They pride themselves on fresh produce and cooked in house. I ordered fish and chips with mushy peas. The fish was beautifully fresh. It wasn’t dry. The batter was delicious and not oily. The chips are beautifully cooked tender in the centre and crunchy outside. I highly recommend this little gem. I look forward going back I have added some pictures.

We were visit Winchester overnight and spotted the Anchor and Crown across the road. We popped on and had a delightful meal which was fully homecooked and delicious. Service was wonderful, the staff are so friendly and up for a chat. Throughly enjoyed our meal and time there.

Popped in on Saturday for lunch. Chose the burger which was amazing. However did have pie envy as my friends had the steak pie on the specials board. This was excellent. Lucky for me they couldn't eat all theirs so got to try the pie too! Ready good food and great service

My partner and I LOVE it here!! Recently we came back to Winchester for a holiday because it’s where we met, and we were really excited to return! I especially recommend the cottage pie! It’s a large portion for a great price, with thick gravy and a portion of roasted veg. There is also have an extensive vegetarian menu. They also do events and live music, which will be next on our to do list! Overall, a great authentic local pub.

Me and my coeliac girlfriend went to this establishment and was very excited as we heard they are very gluten free friendly. We ordered two gluten free burgers which to our surprise when cutting them were completely raw! I politely asked the waitress if we could receive new burgers as we were not comfortable eating them and she kindly returned them to the kitchen. We received two new burgers a little later which AGAIN were unhygienically raw in the inside. We addressed our concerns to (who we believe) was the manager and she told us as the meat was fresh (which it absolutely wasn’t) it should be pink. As I chef of 6 years I understand there may be a slight pinkness of fresh beef however not bright red all the way through and cold to the touch! The same lady later noticed we hadn’t touched our meal and quoted, “It won’t kill you”. Absolutely terrible behaviour from a hospitality member of staff, especially when the customer is already feeling anxious regarding their meal. We were offered a, “free dessert” after barely touching our meal, we were not offered a refund and we had already paid as this establishment makes you pay at the bar before even receiving your meal, I see why now. Do not recommend!!

Hands down the worst pub food experience I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the “buttermilk fried chicken burger” — what arrived was a greasy mess. The batter was soggy, tasteless, and sliding off the chicken because the whole thing was drowning in oil. Completely inedible. I sent it back and was told that "if I wanted another fried chicken burger, it'll be the same as the previous one"- inferring the standard is to drown the plate in oil. Despite the pub being reasonably quiet, it took 35 minutes to get a replacement (I opted for a beef burger). The beef burger I ended up with was bland and also a challenge to eat (had half and couldn't take anymore). My friend and I also witnessed the lady who was running the food and taking orders cough into her hands on multiple occasions in between running the food and taking orders - disgusting and unhygienic to say the least! Save your money and time and go literally anywhere else.

The most delicious gluten free Sunday roast dinner. Thoroughly recommend, it does get busy so book a table in advance.

Great food at a great price. I had a gammon steak with an egg and pineapple, including chips and peas. Accompanied with a Guinness. All for £9.75. The staff gave good service too.

Came in at lunchtime with family for some nibbles – great food, relaxed atmosphere and a nice spot for drinks or watching a game. Big thanks to Louis, our table attendant, who was super friendly and looked after us really well.

A traditional English pub with a warm and lively feel. It’s usually a bit busy and noisy, but we went on a quiet Sunday evening and had a lovely time. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming us with children even though it was nearly 9 pm. The duty manager and waiter were both genuinely friendly. The food was good, the music added a nice touch, and the beer hit the spot. A very pleasant stop.

Popped in with my 9 year old son. Lively staff and we had the bonus of experiencing a fantastic local band of very talented young kids. Reminded me of the school of rock, but better. Food was also really good. The back to the 90s theme of the band was brilliant though!

There is a good choice of food and drinks here, we have been to Oneils Twice now, once on a Friday night whilst out for drinks, which was such a good laugh, with a great band on too. We were in Winchester yesterday and thought we would go there for lunch, we had our dog with us and not many places would allow him in. We were greeted by Ben, who was really helpful, great service, happy and inventive, Without people like this in places like this, the British food industry would be crap. I grew up in Winchester and this is the first time I've been to SJT and I can't believe I haven't been before. The roasts are great, lovely beer on tap, fig and ginger pudding is the best and it isn't too noisy inside. Will definitely return when back in town.

Haven't eaten here for a number of years as it was not really a pleasant experience. We have had a great surprise now the food is delicious, hot & well presented. An excellent selection of draught beers, wines & spirits. We found the menu had good variety & prices to suit most budgets. We will return.

The only issue was the poor light in some tables, but anyway it’s a 5/5 in my opinion. Beautifully decorated, lovely staff and cool beers. Sunday roast was amazing and huge! Perfect location as it is 3-5 min from the center, but not crowded as the others. I’ll be back for sure!

Offering people a different treatment is not inclusive. After booking a table for 4 with a long time in advance, for a family Christmas lunch, on arrival we were given the worse table in the whole place, a table at the door, with a ‘feels like temperature of -5 outside’ and having seen free tables inside. After asking, and understandably complaining about the cold each time de door opened every 10 minutes, we’ve been told a few times that this was the table for us. We’ve seen other groups of 4 arriving just after and being seated in cosy tables inside and upstairs. We’ve seen it happening. Disappointing and not fair and we wondered what might had been behind the different treatment received. Thanks you.

In a city full of great pubs the SJT is amongst the best. Due to its location it can be a little quieter than some of the other city centre boozers but it's well worth the walk up the hill. A nice selection of seating and for a special occasion even has an upstairs dining room that you can book. Have eaten here a few times and the food is always great. Most recently visited on a Thursday, "burger night" and sampled the very tasty SJT Burger from the menu (picture attached). Good selection of beers and a wonderful place to meet with friends for a catch up.

Had my small wedding party in the upper room. The whole experience was excellent, from the service to the food to the room. Can’t thank the staff enough for everything.

We booked in for breakfast having walked past many times. A friendly local independent which has a well constructed menu with a range of breakfasts. The crumpet with egg, was flavoured with chilli and served with bacon and maple syrup. It was delicious. We found it to be a relaxed and quiet environment and a good way to start the morning. The hot chocolate was very tasty. Looking forward to returning to try an evening with drinks.

This is a great place to visit for either breakfast, lunch or just tea and cake. They had great gluten free options and the staff were very careful with the allergy. The staff were really attentive and were happy to help and explain anything the party needed them to. The decor was really cool. We had lunch in the map room which was so interesting and the room took us back in time. The food was delicious and we would definitely visit again.

Only here for some cocktails after a meal else where, the atmosphere was very relaxed, the drinks were good, particular note was Ross, very knowledgeable and attentive. It was a lovely relaxed vibe and I certainly felt very chilled having a couple of cocktails with my wife.

Came across here by chance, a really yummy breakfast and toastie. They were so accommodating to our son, who thoroughly enjoyed his cake! The staff are really friendly and the food is delicious!!

We booked one of their downstairs rooms for cocktails/drinks and nibbles. It was lovely and clean and well set out for the 8 of us. Service was fantastic and they read our minds and appeared when we were thinking of our next drinks. Very professional and made our party feel very welcome. Highly recommend!

Mum and I visited here for lunch yesterday. She has been before and loved it so wanted to take me. Love the atmosphere here. We shared the cheese peach chutney toastie and the whipped feta on toast. Very tasty tacos in centre of Winchester. Really nice vibe. Dog friendly. Key thing is all home made. The tacos were so soft and fluffy and the fillings had real flavour and depth. Nice bar space inside with wide choice of beers. Would definitely go back.

I recently stopped by Overdraft for a catch-up with friends, and honestly, I’m disappointed I haven’t visited sooner. The restaurant is definitely ‘no frills’ – but this definitely adds to the charm. They have a great selection of beers and ciders on tap, perfect to enjoy alongside some tacos. The menu is small but perfectly formed, with a variety of tacos, nachos, and loaded fries. We went on a Tuesday and it was 3 for 2 on tacos, making it unbelievable value.

Delicious tacos! We went on Tuesday (3 for 2), and were glad, as 3 made a nice size portion for lunch, and 2 would have been a bit small for us. They were very nice. I had the grilled napoles- had never had cactus before 🌵- they were very tasty.

The best place for craft beer in Winchester. A reasonable selection on draft, plus a few more cans in the fridge. Measures a little on the stingy side, served with quite big heads.

We stopped for a couple of beers and something to eat. I choose it cause of the craft beer. The two I tried where really good, I have 2 Ales, although I so not remember the names now lol. We had tacos and loaded fries, the later were amazing with birria. The tacos were also good although, we have chicken and pork. The staff was really helpful and smily what helped to improve the whole experience. Definitely will go back and recomend.

Went on a spontaneous day trip to Portsmouth and ended up stopping by Winchester for dinner, found this spot at the top of Google and honestly, what a gem. Every dish was packed with proper Malaysian flavour. The satay skewers were juicy with that perfect char, and the sesame prawn toasts were the best I’ve ever had. The char siu with wonton noodles? Absolutely spot on. We actually ordered loads more, but the food was so good we demolished it before we even thought about taking photos 😂 Everything was just banging. Total hidden gem ! We’ll definitely be back.

For me, this place doesn’t live up to the hype. It felt like when you go to a restaurant in an incredible location, the view makes up for what else is missing. The food was very good but served on cheap plates and over priced. The portions were small and felt like they weren’t finished before being sent out. The staff were fine. Surprisingly few veggie options and lack of imagination for alternatives (I had the salad which is usually served with pork scratchings and there was no alternative offered). We visited Lucky Lychee in Winchester on two consecutive weekends, travelling all the way from London—and it was absolutely worth it each time. The satay beef and chicken were true standouts. The grilled aubergine, courgette & fresh broad bean Malay yellow curry was another highlight—comforting, aromatic, and full of warm, layered spices. It paired perfectly with rice and had that cozy, soul-satisfying quality that makes you want to go back for more. The watermelon & cucumber salad with crispy pork cracking was a refreshing counterpoint—light, crunchy, and perfectly balanced. The watermelon was incredibly sweet and juicy, cutting through the richness of the pork crackling with a clean, fresh burst of flavor. We also really enjoyed the char siu pork—beautifully roasted, with a sweet, savoury glaze and just the right amount of caramelisation. The texture was spot-on: tender, juicy, and packed with that classic smoky flavour. The beef rendang with red pickle was another standout dish. The rendang was rich and deeply spiced, with melt-in-the-mouth beef, and the accompanying red pickle added a bright, tangy contrast that cut through the richness perfectly. One dish that truly surprised us was the sesame prawn toast. Unlike the standard versions you find elsewhere, Lucky Lychee’s featured lemongrass, adding a zesty, refreshing twist. Light and crisp without a trace of oiliness, it was a clever, modern take on a classic starter. Even the desserts were a delight. We tried the banana spring rolls, which were golden and crispy on the outside, with warm, sweet banana on the inside—simple, comforting, and very well executed. The cheesecake with pandan was especially memorable: fragrant, creamy, and subtly tropical. It’s a rare find in the UK and a must-try if you're looking for something a bit different to end your meal. Lucky Lychee serves up food that’s fresh, thoughtful, and full of heart. Every dish feels crafted with care and intention. No wonder we made the trip two weekends in a row—it’s that good. Whether you're local or coming from London, this spot is well worth the journey. Highly recommended.

Ordered the fried chicken/marmite, some of the chicken was rubbery and had the skin on plus way too much pepper. The mains come separately and you have to order the sides….but…are you sitting down?! No fries!!

I've eaten at Lucky Lychee several times over the past couple of years and it is still my favourite restaurant in Winchester if not just my favourite restaurant full stop.. We love a cocktail and I also like a beer. I noticed that they have a special on Negroni currently. Wow..! I have had several in the past and it is one of my favourite cocktails. Personally, I prefer the non alcohol burn of this cocktail and don't really want to wait for the ice to melt. They are easy to drink and easy to have more than one. The alcohol content seems good to me and they use good quality ingredients that prevents the burn. In my experience (I have had a few Negroni) over my last 30 years of drinking. I feel that you normally receive "the burn" when cheaper poor quality Gin or Vermouth are used. Go and try one yourself and see what you think. They are on special cheap price 😁 thanks to a previous review. Thank you 😜

We had a great afternoon here. The cocktails were delicious and it was fantastic to see what everyone else, was ordering too. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Couldn't have been a better experience.

We arrived early, it was Sunday evening, the greeter at the door not only accommodated our request to start our booking early (as there was space to do so on a Sunday evening) but he was so engaging and enthusiastic about the cocktails, we have been a couple of times before so asked if there were any new ones, he was able to point us in the direction of the new ones available since we last came and made a great job of explaining them to us too. All in all it was lovely to be served by someone with such a wonderful attitude who is, in our opinion, an asset to Incognito Winchester and who knows how to make the customer feel valued. We had a tremendous evening. Would not hesitate in recommending to all.

Amazing cocktails. Very tasty! Staff were great, very attentive which is ideal when you have a time limit! It’s defo a “treat” place and not a regular visit unfortunately as the prices are extreme!!! You defo pay for the experience more than the cocktail. My Fair Ground themed cocktail was mainly ice but what was liquid tasted great. I would come back here and try out new ones I haven’t tried for a special occassion. We all managed to get 2 two cocktails each in our time slot (we could have easily got 3 each but the price stopped us!).

We loved our special evening out here. Travelled on train for 30 minutes especially to come and it was worth it. Staff welcoming and friendly. Extensive cocktail menu that would suit everyone’s taste. Drinks themselves delicious abut it’s the theatre when they are served which takes it to a different level. Watching everyone get their drinks is in itself entertainment. Loved it. We will return.

This was the perfect date night spot for our anniversary. The atmosphere as soon as you walk in is whimsical and magical. The friendliness of the staff and interactivity made the night even more special, we received amazing recommendations based on our favourite drinks that were extremely yummy. We got complimentary snacks when we first walked in which was lovely! The drinks themselves are incredible! Each one tastes fantastic and comes with a wacky fun element of surprise so you never know what you could get! It was overall an incredible evening and I would 100% go again!

Rather noisy, but that's the way of most restaurants these days. Service excellent. Food very good, although carrot 🥕 too soft. Dessert was slightly disappointing as the description said, "Autumn Still Life", and was just like a painting on the plate with not much to eat.

Great summer night out to your classic movie night with a 3-course meal. Loved the old 1959 movie 'some like it hot'. Food was, as always, delicious.

Came here on a Friday late lunch after enjoying a day in Winchester. They offer some good 2 and 3 course deals, but we had our heart set on the chateaubriand steak. We ordered this and the baguette with dips to enjoy while waiting for the steak to be cooked. The place is very spacious and nicely laid out, with an open plan kitchen upstairs. Staff here are very good. Our meal was very good paired with a good red wine as well. The only criticism is the mark up on the wine. But this is something that happens everywhere. Overall a brilliant late lunch here🙂

The food here is excellent. Definitely a proper chef in charge of the kitchen! We walked past this brasserie and popped in, on the off chance of getting a table for two. We were lucky to get one, and the meal turned out to be the highlight of our (Saturday) evening! We also made use of the "happy hour" drinks special offer.

My partner and I love coming here. Gabriella is normally our hostess and is always happy and friendly. She gives us great food advice and we have never had a bad meal. Always friendly staff and amazing food!! Can’t wait for our next meal.

My wife and I had an excellent meal here last night (a Saturday evening). It was packed so there was a real buzz; we thought all the food was top notch and our waitress, Cheena, was first class and even managed to give my wife her tea at the SAME time as her dessert (something almost never acheived elsewhere !) !! We have been a number of times in the past but felt that they got everything spot-on this time so we hope to go back again soon !

As close to perfection as it gets. Best lamb I've ever had. Mackerel pate was mouth-watering as was the cherry chocolate pudding. Would go back in a heartbeat. And Cheena was excellent as our waiter.

Whipped avocado and a side of scrambled eggs. Perfection on a plate! We had a fantastic breakfast this morning as we passed through Winchester and fancied a stop. Service was excellent (friendly and attentive) and compliments to the chef for putting together some lovely flavours/ingredients. Definitely the best breakfast I've had out in a long time. Second time i go there and it really doesn't disappoint, the burgers and other dishes we tried are fantastic. Overall really good food, they must use top quality meats because they are not many restaurants cooking a medium burger. Not to mention the staff who are always super nice and smiling.

The goat cheese salad was one of the best dishes I had during our long visit to England. Just delicious!

Always enjoyed coming here. Although not a regular spot for me while living in Winchester, I’ve been here many times these last few years and it never disappoints. Evenings are nice for a beer or cocktail but the brunch is always good. Today I had the ‘Bloody Benny’ and it’s the best brekkie for a long time. Eggs Benedict with a spicy hollandaise sauce and two slices of black pudding, and crispy bacon. Amazing!!! Highly recommend making a visit if you’re in town.

The BEST place in Winchester for a roast. We were greeted by a lovely host who was also our waitress (we think her name is Lizzie - tall, brown hair in a bun) and she recommended us cheesy vegetables to go with our roast and it was the best decision! We will be coming back and bringing the in-laws next time!

I really enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. We walked in and there was many tables available for us to sit at. We ordered online to our table making it quick and easy and suitable for many especially if you have social anxiety. Drink came within 2 minutes and food within 10 making the wait time very short which anyone likes. The staff were very nice and attentive making sure everything is okay and there were no issues (which there wasn’t). However in one of my chicken bites there was a whole lump of fat making it unbearable to eat but apart from that i had a pleasant experience and food and drinks were enjoyable. There was also many condiments to choose from and easy to get. Overall this is a great place to take your family to eat as there are many options for all people.

We ordered online and drinks came first followed shortly by our food. It’s our first time to try pasta and jacket potatoes in Wetherspoon and surprisingly they were amazingly yummy. Not to mention friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommend to visit if you’re in Winchester.

Having to have breakfast in this little village, passers-by recommended this pub to me, I was happy to see that the place was very busy, and going to wash my hands I slowly realized how big this pub was; In it’s entirety I must say that the pub is really beautiful and well-kept, and from the large influx of people it must surely also be well-organized; in fact I saw a waiter working hard trying to be as fast as possible; the food partly surprised me because, for example, the Bacon seemed really grilled so, absolutely not greasy, not salty, but also with a good woody and crunchy flavor, standard sausages, the usual canned beans, average hash brown, slightly overcooked eggs, and finally a good and generous amount of toasted bread; it is clear that this place is prepared to work with a large amount of customers, it was really nice to feel fascinated by the classic English pub and welcoming and cosy, only one advice: be careful not to fall into the commercial: (be careful not to loose quality increasing in workload.

Typical Spoons, huge pub, Had an excellent breakfast here and enjoyed early to late'ish drink session to finish the day. This was on our Winchester pub tour. Had a wonderful stroll around about 6-7 pubs, well worth the effort and time taken planning these tours.

It is as expected. Service was a bit slow tbh. Took more than half an hour to get the two toast, and American breakfast… Price wise it was good. Disappointed they didn’t have hot chocolate for my breakfast and the juice was a bit watery, but it was ok.

Another Sunday breakfast visit. Fairly busy. Small breakfasts ordered today. Very good and very little time to wait. Well cooked and hot on arrival. Cheap good food , and is therefore the reason to return. One of several visits Breakfast only on this occasion. Normally a good variety on offer on menu..Cheaper than many other cafes or pubs offering breakfast. Very good service and food . Staff very good, Coffee refillable. Getting busier slowly, as restrictions are lifted. Parking in public car parks only.

Proper pub. It has not been tarted up. Small, clean, cosy, with a history. Staff always welcoming. Unpretentious pub grub: pies fish n chips etc. Choice of ales and lagers, wines: 3x reds,3x whites and a spread of spirits: they do well, considering the available space. Outdoor seating on the pavement for people watching/ sun-catching. This to me is how a pub should be. Also (small) dog friendly, plus occasional local acoustic musicians.

A great little find. We didn't eat here but the beer was great, hence the five star rating. Quaint setting and the bar staff were friendly. Lovely ghost story if you're into that.

If not for the resident ghost gi and enjoy this classic English pub. Lovely staff. We can recommend the fish finger Sammie and the French onion soup. Both were awesome.

I like this pub. I went in on Wednesday night for a drink after a cricket game. It has a lovely atmosphere created by friendly staff and importantly great beer from the local Flower Potts brewery served well!

We have not visited The Eclipse since pre COVID days. It's a super pub , with a great atmosphere, nice to be able to relax and enjoy a few drinks and eat some very good food. Not very busy when we arrived for lunch, but gradually got busier. The Staff were very good. Quick service, hardly any time to wait for our food.

An oasis of calm in a busy city, the Queen Inn is one of those pubs that seems to cover all the bases. Popular with an eclectic group of customers, it has a good menu and one of the best bar offerings in town, helped in the main by its own micro brewery on site. Staff are very helpful and friendly. It's a comfortable and pleasant place to sit, both inside and in the flower filled garden areas outside. Definitely worth seeking out.

A nice pub, Green King, but with a microbrewery attached, offering a nice selection of cask ale. A ten minute or so walk from the centre, but well worth it. We mistakenly first went to The Willow Tree, its sister pub, which only had one Queens ale on tap, the other two were Green King. About a half hour walk between the two if you make the same mistake. We didn't have food, but it looked good on other tables.

Went in with a friend to get a drink. Bar tender (a guy ) was really polite and good service and I’m assuming the lady manager really polite chatty and kind. They were busy ! It was a warm day we sat out the front. The place was clean and tidy. Only downfall was it did take awhile to get my drink as the keg was empty but honestly they were so busy it was to be expected as in any bar in the summer. Would come back again

Really cool little pub with a lovely garden and lots of space. Cool brewery and nice staff. Let down a little by the food. The roast beef is listed on the menu as 'served pink' but it was a little overcooked and the fish and chips was a very bad frozen battered fish which is a shame. The lamb and the rest of the roasts were lovely though.

Such a lovely place for dinner. Highly recommend. We had such a warm welcome from staff on arrival. Seated immediately, we had a tight timetable due to concert in the cathedral. They squeezed us in quickly. The food was beautiful, all burgers with various sides. We enjoyed the chicken burger and halloumi burger. Both came with paprika chips. Really great food. I was very impressed with "The Dispensary Kitchen." The members of staff were lovely and really took an interest. They were very positive and all of them had an excellent attitude. The chef obviously works very hard and does an amazing job. She also had a great smile on her face. This place is extremely generous in relation to portions. The burgers are plentiful and just amazing structures. The chips were absolutely wonderful and tasty. They were also presented in a lovely and unique manner.

The best burgers me and my mum have ever had. We had half each of the shredded chicken and beef brisket, they were both absolutely devine. I could not recommend eating here more. Even the chips were beautiful. 100% will return. These really just aren't any burgers !!!

My visit was a delightful experience. The menu is rich, offering a diverse selection of burgers. I particularly enjoyed the customizable chicken burger and the unbelievably good lamb burger. The standout, however, was the unique and delicious CHIPS that accompanied the meal. Our waiter, Ed, was friendly and attentive, enhancing our dining experience. However, it's worth noting that the outdoor dining option, while pleasant in cooler weather, might not be ideal on sunny days due to weather and the presence of flies and bees. One minor drawback was the slightly longer preparation time, possibly due to the restaurant's popularity and crowds. Despite this, I wholeheartedly recommend giving The Dispensary Kitchen a TRY. It's a must-visit spot deserving of your day off or a special dining experience, with its exceptional food and service making up for any minor inconveniences.

Really friendly staff, great staff and delicious food! We had the soy and sesame pulled pork burger, onion fritter, fennel, cabbage and spring onion slaw sesame mayo and paprika salted fries and the shredded chicken burger, bacon smoked cheddar, hash brown, tomato, chilli jam and paprika salted fries. No picture of the fries but everything was really tasty with great ingredient combinations. Great sized portions.

Lovely little gem in nestled in residential Winchester with a nice spacious garden in dappled shade. Perfect for a hot day. There’s a small playground area for the kids to enjoy and the inside is warm and welcoming. The Level Head (beer) was off when I got it but immediately replaced with a different beer by the staff who were polite and quick to resolve.

The King Alfred serves food so good you’ll wonder if Gordon Ramsay’s hiding in the kitchen, but the beer tap list is so short it could fit on a Post-it, and the prices suggest you’re drinking liquid gold in a city that thinks it’s London. Still, the beer garden is nothing short of glorious - a leafy paradise where adults can clink glasses while their children fling themselves around the play area like unpaid stunt doubles. In short: come hungry, bring your overdraft, and remember: great food, mediocre beer, and an outdoor space that makes you almost forgive them for charging a mortgage payment per pint

A great lunch stop on a section of the Camino de santiago walk from ovington to shawford. Fis and chips with tarter sauce and mushy peas were delicious Atmosphere and service were great. Well worth a visit if you're in Winchester

We loved everything! The food was really tasty, the staff was very helpful and I liked the pub itself, it has an old England feel to it! I will come back.

Perfect overnight on cycle tour. Came with friend while cycling King Arthur’s Way. Smashing room, with breakfast in the fridge. Great friendly pub for a pint in the evening.

My partner and I were out for a celebration dinner but the welcome we received was cold and unprofessional. We felt ignored and unimportant. The perception was locals and regulars were favoured. Just to say we are local but have no intention of being regulars. Shame because the food was good but there are more welcoming pubs and restaurants in Winchester.

Can’t review the rooms as I “only”had dinner. Truly excellent navarin (stew) of lamb with fresh baked bread. Good ales, friendly welcome. Everything a traveller would want in a hostelry and everything a neighbour would want in a local. If there were 6 stars I’d give it six.

This is a really nice pub in the heart of Winchester. Down to earth and unpretentious. Warm atmosphere , reasonably priced drinks. The bar staff are efficient and friendly. I was served by Toni who was very sweet and chatty., an asset to the place The locals are friendly too. I recommend you visit if you want a proper pub!

Me and some mates went in after work and the Bar staff ( gin and Charlie ) where very friendly. The pub is very clean and overall great atmosphere. We Only came in for a glass of wine ended up having two bottles. Lol

They play loud music. Like my windows vibrate so loud until the early morning. Whats worse it’s bad music which is on repeat 7 hours straight. They have no consideration for those around them and are highly rude even after communication. Maybe stick to the law and turn it down after 11?

Nice pub and they even show F1 qualifying WITH sound not like O’Neills. Recommended!

Love what they've done with the garden! Great to have a pub with such a nice outdoor space in this area of winchester, really nice feel to it. Would be nice if they had more food options for coeliac, the pizzas can be gluten free but not safe if allergic etc.

Poor service the food was awful my pie was burnt the plate was chipped my husbands chicken was that bad he couldn’t eat it so sent it back no compensation offered so £14 for nothing . Our cutlery was just thrown on the table at us. This was a meal with my brother who I haven’t seen for 5 years . It was Embarrassing and at £14.00 a meal I would think twice if your thinking of booking . This pub has gone down hill fast waste of money

Absolutely loved this place. Great location. Lovely staff, very attentive and friendly. Food was outstanding. Really good atmosphere and a lovely experience. Just wish I could have ate it all! It was amazing! :)

Had fish & chips for a Sunday lunch. Felt like a premium offering. Service was excellent - the whole crew were friendly and the waitress in particular was very professional. Beer was excellent as it has been every time I've drunk there

Good atmosphere, pleasant garden. Delicious food, pizza. A drink order seemed to take forever, probably a case of 'too many staff' and nobody doing anything, there were only a dozen people in the pub. But our overall visit was very pleasant, yes we would return, I think we were just unlucky with the drink orders.

Girls weekend away we decided to visit Winchester as not been before, we arrived on Fri 1st Dec. That eve as we were walking down through the centre I spotted lots of pretty lights up one of the side alleys, we decided to head there, The Bakers Arms. We were greeted by a lovely barmaid Kim, we only stopped for one as we had booked a table prior to our visit to Winchester at Incognito. But said to Kim we will definitely be back as it seemed like a lovely pub with friendly staff & locals. On Saturday night we went back & had a great night, even though it was packed all the staff were quick to serve & super friendly. The DJ that was on was playing great tunes. Got to meet June the land lady she was lovely & we had a good chat as she is friends with our landlady at The Dolphin. We loved the Bakers Arms & will definitely visit again when in Winchester. Thank you for having us 🥰 & making us feel welcome.

Cracking find between an alleyway off the High Street or a road running beside the side of the Cathedral good range of drinks plenty of outdoor seating in the alley. Amazing prices.

Went try this place out after hearing some mixed things and I was thoroughly disappointed. Land lady is rude and made me and my friends feel very unwelcome. Will not be returning

Gives plastic cups for pints like a bloody festival

A simple, tiny, very welcoming 'wet' pub on a corner just down from Winchester station serving the excellent ales of the Hopback Brewery (plus a few West Country ciders). No food - just behind-the-bar crisps & nuts. Your last bit of blissful Hampshire before you sadly have to board a train to somewhere less convivial instead. Long may it reign.

This pub has recently (Nov 2024) reopened as a pub within the Hopback Brewery estate, as I expected it's a great pub. An excellent selection of Hopback's cask ales, friendly bar staff, comfy seats and no annoying TVs. Definitely a place to enjoy a pint if you're in Winchester. They also have a good selection of top end spirits including my favourite whisky, Auchentoshan American Oak. It's right next to the railway station and only a short walk away from the city centre.

Visited the Albion again for a few pints after not being here for 2 years. New changes as a new brewery (HopBack) took over from Flower Pots and the place is perfect again. Good selection of real ales and the atmosphere is perfect at this small pub. Served by Kevin who gave me a good idea about each beer 🍺

I hate doing reviews. I used to frequent the Alb approx 10 years ago and it had a god awful rep. I popped in for a pint pre train today and Kevin was absolutely class. Knew his beer, knew not to muck about, has a great sense of humour. Would go back purely to buy him a drink - he knew what I'd like and how long it'd take to make the train. People make pubs, and I will happily send people to get a pint from him. All the best Kev

Absolutely beautiful little spot. Beer selection is modest, but both ales tried were local and well kept. The building itself is the star - one of the cosiest ancient pubs I've visited. Well worth a trip out of your way

We visited this lovely pub on a Sunday afternoon, were the only people there. Great beer selection including Harvey's Best Sussex Bitter. Great service, pub is so old that it gives an extraordinary feeling. Very charming. Have an open fire which should be amazing in winter. Great wine selection, very cozy pub

I want expecting much having been disappointed on a previous visit (beer past it's best). Was happily surprised to see the pub buzzing - 4 ales on, the 3 I tried all in excellent condition, great Thai food (a regular feature) & live music downstairs. Good mix of locals, tourists & music lovers.

Nice quiet pub with great beer and excellent service. Great place to get some people together and have a bit of a natter. The pie competition in November is well worth looking out for!

Lovely old pub with a real open fire, low ceilings, varied bitter / ale offering, friendly staff and an arrangement that you can order and eat your takeaway for a small charge. Looks much nicer on the inside. Definitely worth a visit

Unfortunately the place is filthy, cobwebs everywhere food over the floor, filthy toilets that hadn't been cleaned for some time with dirt all over the systern. There's shabby scheek and then there's a dirty dump. This is the latter, expensive for what it is, avoid.

This place has so much potential, great pub on a lovely sunny corner. Proper independent feel to it, but is completely let down by the landlord who has a very unwelcoming and unfriendly attitude. Thought it might be a one off but have experienced the same on a few occasions.

Small pub that's relatively quiet although always busy(weirdly). Nice atmosphere and a days board you can play on when the team isn't playing. Nice to stop in for a quick point or two.

Marvellous local pub in the Fulflood residential area of Winchester, not far from railway station. Comfortable, friendly, everything a local should be. Recommended.

Strange, little local, with a quirky feel to it. Definitely needs something to pull it together, especially at lunchtime. On my visit today I had the pub to myself, with the exception of 1 customer who left as I arrived, and the barman...oh and Mr.Elvin Jones... whose jazz was the stuff of razor blades and hot baths!!! The problems continue when you factor in car parking, as ALL local streets are permit holders only, so not sure what you are supposed to do? Luckily I have my Blue Badge, so I was OK. Talking to the barman, who has worked there for years, he assured me that the pub is hugely popular in the evenings...so maybe that should be my next visit? Reasonable selection of beers, ales and lager...all seemed to be reasonably priced. Be aware that this pub does not do food. Didn't notice any disabled facilities and the toilets are down a flight of stairs. Quite why they open on Monday through Thursday, for the 2h:30m drink session, from 12:00 to 14:30, is beyond me...it surely can't be profitable? Definitely worth a visit, but try to avoid the jazz.

I'm not a wine drinker but this place was fun to visit and quite original. Load up a card with an amount and go make your way through one of the 5-8 (can't quite remember) different quirky little rooms. All wine is self serve, but beers, spirits and soft drinks are available downstairs at the bar. Just after the bridge, opposite the Bishop on the Bridge pub.

Favourite wine bar. An absolute must. Coravin wine dispensing system where customers use a pre-paid card and dispense their own wine. The best thing is that any single wine is replaced just three times before a totally new wine is used in its place. Lovely and cosy yet vibrant inside too.

Really nice relaxed place.if you like wine then it’s great, you get a card from the bar and load it with money, you then go into different rooms which have wine bendy machines, I would say on average It’s £5 a glass of wine. You can order beer and other drinks at the bar. I did take a fall down their stairs because of the layout but apart from this it was cool.

Quirky, cool and different. Great selection of different wines and plenty of classic board games as well as new. Staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming.

Nice concept, reasonable selection of wine, interesting decor and layout, but the technology malfunctioned on three separate occasions during one visit. The machine thinks there’s more wine in the bottle than there really is, which results in short measures and reduced choice. We also found it a little pricey considering the ‘self-serve’ nature of the set up.

Relaxed environment. Fun gimmick of the card and wine vending machines. Definitely worth a look if you want a wine evening. Wines all have a very good amount of info on them for the uneducated like myself, and the taster size plus the literature should let you find something you like even if you've never had wine before. Things that aren't wine are priced quite highly, so give the wine a go. Great sized tables/rooms, fun table top traditional pub games.

I used to go here often several years ago and excitedly revisited here recently during a trip to Winchester. I looked forward to chatting about wine to knowledgeable staff and enjoying a wide variety of interesting wines. Unfortunately it seems it has gone down hill a bit since then. Disappointingly, during my visit the wine dispensing machine malfunctioned multiple times meaning I kept having to get the staff to refund my card and I was unfortunately unable to try many of the wines which should have been on offer. I also found the selection to be less varied than I remember it being previously. I really hope they fix their machines and make a little effort to try to make this place as lovely as it used to be.

I really enjoy this pub. Their food is not only top notch but surprisingly reasonable! Service and friendliness of staff is a big plus and I just like pub's vibe. Been here several times and never been disappointed.

I grew up in Harestock and often went to the March Hare with family to play pool. I was so pleased to discover it still has a pool table which is rare in a pub nowadays. This is by far the best family pub in Winchester. Amazing food...chips and pizzas esp good. Fresh great tasting beer. Plenty for the kids to do also.. a newly refurbished sports bar with the biggest TV I've ever seen, also darts. Noticed loadsa posters advertising family fun days. The atmosphere as great also. Very family oriented with a wide range of ages and customers. Very highly recommended

Pub is nice, but they should update their menu in Google. They only have pizzas, hot dogs, nachos... very "american style" pub. Nothing close to the lamb roast, lasagna and other dishes in the posted menu. The food was alright given the type of dish. But disappointing as I was expecting a classic British food pub.

I have been going to the March Hare pub on and off for years now! My brother was a local and has his plaque on the pillar outside! My husband passed away in July and I couldn't think of a better place to have his "wake!' I must say that Zac the manager went above and beyond to have everything the way I wanted it! He had new technology to master and it was perfect! The food was amazing and he truly went above and beyond! He really is special and an asset to the pub! Thank you Zac! You did my Simon (aka bear); 🐻 proud!

Great food. My dad had small sausage and mash and he thought it was really tasty. I had the burger which was very yummy. I had fruit crumble for dessert.

Great pizza and sides, hot food and very good welcome and service. Will be returning.
