Colonial Michilimackinac is a historic fort and fur trading village that offers daily reenactments, history exhibits, and tours during the spring to fall seasons. The fort was originally built by French traders in 1670 and has been reconstructed based on extensive archaeological work.
Great area to visit. I never went in the Fort, but the park around it is free to enjoy. If you want to go into the water the beach is very rocky, wear old shoes or aqua socks. Nice view of Bridge and you can even go under it. Plenty of picnic tables.
Andy P — Google review
What a great place to learn about the history of the area. We came on a weekday, after Labor Day, so we only had to share the fort with about a dozen other people. It was great. Despite it being a slow day, there were active exhibits and reenactors throughout the fort and buildings. British soldiers were there to explain different aspects of their daily life and duties. We met a fur trader that told us about the different boats and canoes they used. And a colonial woman was busy in her home baking a cake in a dutch oven next to an open fire. Very much worth the visit.
Troy M — Google review
If you enjoy history this is an excellent attraction. Located just prior to the Machinac Bridge. You enter at the gift shop and walk down to the fort. Best to start this tour by watching a 20 minute video that does a great job explaining the history of the fort and the time period. There are employees dressed in era period clothing and very well versed in the forts history and life during that time period. You are provided a map with 22 sites of interest offering exhibits, videos and written information that does an excellent job explaining the history, life inside and challenges of that time period. There are 7 different demonstrations throughout the day that are worth attending. Plenty of parking (free) and clean restrooms located at the entrance and inside the fort. You can enter and exit as long as you keep your ticket for that day. Definitely worth the admission price $16 for adults. Be prepared to walk (wear comfortable shoes) and take plenty of photos. You can get some good pictures of the bridge from the fort. Highly recommend if your a history buff or just want to know more about colonial period history. There is a NO smoking policy, please be respectful of this. Several people on the day we visited didn't adhere to this policy.
David I — Google review
This is a beautiful fort to visit. Wow were were impressed with the views, then the buildings, then the gardens maintained, the displays inside, and the the staff that did the demonstrations of life in the fort. Really worth going to.
Murphys O — Google review
I loved my visit to the Colonial Michilimackinac Lighthouse in Michigan—it’s a fantastic spot to explore the region’s history, especially if you’re interested in lighthouses and shipwrecks. What I Enjoyed Most The exhibits provided a fascinating look at lighthouse technology and the important role these structures played for ships navigating the Straits of Mackinac. Displays on local shipwrecks told dramatic stories and showcased relics recovered from the lake, adding a real sense of adventure. Staff were knowledgeable and enthusiastic, answering questions and sharing fun historical anecdotes. The lighthouse itself is beautifully maintained, offering great views of the water and nearby Mackinac Bridge. Atmosphere and Experience The location is scenic, right on the shoreline with a peaceful atmosphere perfect for a day of learning and relaxation. Interpretive signage and hands-on exhibits made the experience engaging for visitors of all ages. There’s plenty to see, whether you’re a maritime buff or just curious about Michigan’s unique history. Final Thoughts If you’re in the area, the Colonial Michilimackinac Lighthouse is a must-visit destination for history lovers—especially those drawn to tales of shipwrecks and Great Lakes exploration

Fantastic place. Lived every part of it. It had been 30 plus yrs since I'd been inside the walls of the fort.It was fantastic

We stopped by on a Sunday. The staff was friendly. Parking was free and on site. They have accessible restrooms on site in two different locations. Great views of the water and bridge.

We had a great time! Spent approximately 2 hours there. Nice gravel walkways. Plenty cool things to see, with great views of the lake! We were able to take our dog.

Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse, built in 1892, stands as a historic beacon at the Straits of Mackinac where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron meet. Its castle-like appearance and proximity to the Mackinac Bridge and Fort Michilimackinac make it a beloved landmark. Deactivated in the 1950s, it now operates as a museum offering restored living quarters and educational exhibits. Visitors can climb the tower for panoramic views of the lakes.
We had a great time here. The staff there were so nice and informative. We had a great time. We loved the shipwreck museum and the tower tour. Plus this is part of the State Historical Parks and so admission with the family pass gave us 7 day pass to be used at all State historical parks in the Mackanaw area, including the Mackanac Island sites.
Murphys O — Google review
Not a bad price for what you can see but don't come when there is lightning in the area if you want to climb the lighthouse tower. I got my ticket and lightning struck 1 mile away and they canceled the tower climb. But other than that not a bad view of the bridge.
Trooper16 ( — Google review
Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse Visiting the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse feels like stepping back into Michigan’s nautical history. The moment you arrive, the beautifully preserved red-brick structure and its classic tower signal the importance this beacon held for generations of Great Lakes mariners. Exhibits inside are thoughtfully curated, showcasing period artifacts, interactive displays, and the fascinating story of shipping and shipwrecks along the treacherous straits. During my visit, the highlight was the lighthouse attendant, whose passion for history elevated the experience. His thorough explanations covered everything from the engineering of the Fresnel lens to day-in-the-life recollections of past keepers and their families. He answered questions with patience and depth, weaving in local anecdotes and shipwreck tales that made the tour engaging for all ages. The grounds themselves are immaculate and offer panoramic views of the Mackinac Bridge and Lake Huron—perfect for photography. The restored keeper’s quarters and fog signal building add extra layers of interest for history buffs. Whether you’re a lighthouse enthusiast or exploring Mackinaw City for the first time, this site delivers on educational value, authenticity, and scenic charm.

Throughly enjoyed the light house. It is a small museum but the view from the top of the light house is lovely. We purchased the 7 day family pass and visited multiple sites in 2 days. With the family pass you can go back multiple times during the 7 days.
Kate N — Google review
Worth checking out and the entrance fee because this lighthouse has a human guide who succinctly explains the relevance and importance of the lighthouse and what the teams did. It has a wonderful museum, audiovisual program and preserved house below the light.
Catherine ( — Google review
Just before you cross into the UP, it was a nice little detour. A lot of knowledge along the self guided trail. There's a QR code option for a tour but I opted out of that.
Christina D — Google review
What an amazing experience. We were able to hear the fog horn explanation and demonstration, as well as going up in the lighthouse itself. The guide was very informative and the views were incredible.
Renee H — Google review
As a last minute decision to visit we had a great time. We really enjoyed our lighthouse tour and the guide was great. The kids loved the shipwreck museum

Maritime museum
The Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum is a unique nautical museum located on a former WWII Coast Guard ship. It offers seasonal visits and even overnight stays for an immersive experience. The museum showcases the renowned Great Lakes icebreaker vessel, which played a crucial role in keeping the Straits of Mackinac free of ice during World War II. Visitors can explore the history of Great Lakes shipping and learn about the region's rich maritime heritage.
It was a very interesting place to explore, there was a tour guide who gave a lot of info. We explored every room on the Icebreaker. Very cool! Be careful with climbing the narrow ladders, if you have mobility issues, this place might be very challenging.
Inna P — Google review
lots of fun, great learning opportunity, get your tickets at the old photo booth kiosk in the parking lot or just purchase tickets from the gift shop aboard the ship. Just walk past the boat repair shop, up the road past the sail boats. The fella that welcomes you aboard is very friendly and welcoming. Oh yeah, you need to have a little agility to navigate the steel ladder/steps in between ship decks. If your very obese, you might want to pass. The staff is very knowledgeable, the young fella in the engine room is full of interesting info on the diesel power plants and how the ice breaker functions. Kids will have a blast climbing up and down the deck ladders. I'm in my 50's and had a blast.
Eric H — Google review
This was a cool stop on our family vacation! It was neat to learn about the coast guard and the ice breaker. It was a simple self guided tour, with information guides along the way. The staff was all very nice and answered questions too. Very cool place! And you get a gorgeous view of the bridge!
Amanda G — Google review
This was a great experience. I had access to nearly the entire ship. A great self tour. Easy to follow. Great access to the engine rooms and captains quarters.
Matt S — Google review
It's a interesting tour.. you go around the ship.. steps are like steep ladders but if you go down them backwards it helps alot. Saddest part about the tour is a video on how they decommissioned the ship after 62 years of service. That was on June 10 2006.
Lisa F — Google review
This was awesome! They have arrows to lead the way: there was lots of interaction and knowledgeable staff throughout! Highly recommend!
Sean F — Google review
We’ve toured the Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum several times, and it’s always such a fantastic experience! Our seven-year-old son is absolutely obsessed with the ship, and every visit feels just as exciting as the first. The employees are incredibly kind and patient, taking the time to make our son feel special while also making the whole family feel welcome. It’s a wonderful place for kids and adults alike, and we’re so grateful to have such a unique piece of history to explore again and again. Highly recommend!

Self guided tour of the ship was very interesting. I spent 3 hours exploring ship and talking to people who worked on the ship.

McGulpin Point Lighthouse, a restored brick lighthouse built in 1869, is open to the public for visits and features a gift shop. Located in Mackinaw City, this touristy town serves as the gateway to Mackinac Island and offers a rich historical narrative intertwined with cultural heritage. Visitors can explore charming streets and landmarks that effortlessly blend past and present.
I've been here several times, as it is only about a 10-minute drive from Mackinaw City. It's hit or miss on whether the lighthouse itself is actually open, but even so, the complex is fun to walk around. There's a nice trail that leads down to the lake. There's a quant gift shop, and it costs $3 (cash or credit card) to enter the museum portion and climb the tower. The museum is very well decorated with authentic historic items and has a lot of information to read. There's also a video you can watch. The view from the tower was mostly obscured by tall trees, so you can't really see the lake or the bridge very well. It's definitely an enjoyable and educational experience.
Truth4believers — Google review
Great beach. The lake is beautiful and so calm and the rocks are plentiful. Bring mosquito spray. Those are kinda bad when your first getting on the beach.
T L — Google review
Recommend taking the trail down to the water for awesome views of the Mackinaw Bridge. Great facility photos. The trail is relatively short but there is some elevation. Views from the top are also pretty epic.
Gerid ( — Google review
A nice little lighthouse- enjoyable visit! For only $3 per person we got to climb the lighthouse tower, which was cool! It had a great view of the bridge. The volunteer there gave a great little verbal presentation about the lighthouse's history. He was very knowledgeable and engaging! Cool little piece of history for a nice visit.
Karoline W — Google review
$3 admission, history is very detailed. The trails with informational signing are great. Fun to climb all the way up and even outside the top of the lighthouse if you can bend low enough. The plaques with the details of 5 very local shipwrecks was also interesting.
Melissa W — Google review
Nice light house with an interesting history of ownership. The placards with the brief shipwreck history is interesting. Lots of lost lives.
Joel M — Google review
Alot of history on signs all over the park. Great for history lovers. There is also a beautiful trail that leads to the lake.

The Mackinaw Bridge Museum, situated in the picturesque town of Mackinaw City, is a captivating destination for those with an interest in history and engineering. This museum is dedicated to showcasing the rich history, construction, and significance of the iconic Mackinac Bridge that connects Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. Visitors can delve into the fascinating story behind the bridge's creation while exploring artifacts from its construction.
Want great information about the bridge? This museum is amazing, artifacts, stories, video records by people who built the bridge, and a theater that plays a great documentary about the bridge... the only weird but strangely interesting thing is where it’s located, above a pizza shop.
Benjamin N — Google review
Free museum is located on the upper floor of Mama Mia's Pizza; a collection of memorabilia, photos and more from the construction of the Mackinaw Bridge. Some exhibits are on the edges of the dining area and may be less accessible during busy times. Check the back for a small number of vintage arcade cabinets.
A P — Google review
This is a very underrated asset to this area. It is a very interesting and powerful place. Highly recommend for anyone passing through.
Charlie E — Google review
It's a great little museum with so many artifacts from the building of the bridge. Take the time to watch the movies.
Jeremy S — Google review
Great spot to have a quick detour of your wanting to do some sightseeing at museums. This location is inside a pizza eatery, located up stairs. There is no entry fee to see the museums artifacts. It did feel weird looking at these items while everyone else is eating around you, but hey I suppose your use to it if you wantto sit there and eat while people walk around looking at artifacts. I would visit it again though and maybe try out the pizza too.
Khristi C — Google review
I thought this was so neat! What an amazing job these men did. I could never imagine. My man is an ironworker, local 17, he loved this as well. Definitely more than me lol. Ironworkers also get a 20% off discount with your membership card.

Fun little break from the hustle and bustle outside on the mackinaw crossings strip. Located upstairs inside Mama Mias Pizza, it's fun to eat with entertainment. There are a few rooms filled with items from the making of the Mackinaw Bridge. Interesting, historical items displayed were more impressive to the adults than the kids. There was a screen or two showing movies, clips and interviews but we could not listen for too long. Small but educational.

So much more there than I expected! I highly recommend a visit to this museum. It's not very big, but it sure packs a punch. Free.

Jack Pine Lumberjack Shows, founded by the Nine-Time Champion Logroller Dan McDonough, offers an exhilarating display of world-class lumberjack skills. Visitors can witness impressive feats such as chopping, sawing, log-rolling, and speed climbing performed by top competitors. The show combines athleticism with comedy for a thrilling experience. Located in Mackinaw City, Michigan, this destination also features other attractions like the Mackinaw Maritime Museum and the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse.
Phenomenal family show! Just attended their Friday night show 6/27/25. See energetic fun lumberjacks compete against each other for your entertainment! They get the whole crowd excited! Happens rain or shine. Concessions, snacks, drinks and merchandise to buy too! The show is about 1 hr 15 mins but it feels faster as it's so good. Would highly recommend it to all families when you're in the area. They said it's their 18th year in the business!
J T — Google review
This show was way better than we were expecting. It was so cool to see the lumberjack feats, and the show has great humor as well. The staff, including the owner, lumberjacks and concessions, were all friendly and engaging. Definitely a great family event but also don’t need kids to enjoy it!!!

Bière de Mac Brew Works is a trendy craft brewery and restaurant located in Mackinaw City, Michigan. Opened in 2017 by the Ranville family, it pays homage to the area's heritage and specializes in French- and Belgian-inspired ales with a wide range of flavors. The brewery has gained recognition for its beer, Fleur de Mac, which was named Beer of the Year by Michigans Best team.
I’m sure we’ve been to over a hundred breweries, in a dozen countries or more including France, Germany and Belgium), and Biere de Mac Brew Works in Mackinaw City Michigan is for sure one of the best. Specializing in traditional French and Belgian styles, they have one of the most accomplished and diverse in-house tap lists that we’ve come across. There were no misses, and there menu is the perfect compliment with various smoked meat options and a smoked whitefish dip that is darn near worth trip on its own. The brewers are a trio of mad scientists that are pushing some seriously delicious pints. It’s just off the interstate, nestled in a woody area, and I’m sure the grounds are just as inviting as the beer hall and service were inside. Biere de Mac Brew Works for the win. Literally, as they’ve won many awards, including Michigan’s beer of the year.
Ryan L — Google review
Whenever I travel, I tend to follow a simple guideline when choosing where to eat: a welcoming outdoor space with a good vibe (especially if it’s dog-friendly), a small but thoughtful menu, and a strong beer or drink selection. This place checked every box — and then some. The brisket sandwich was a standout. I’ve had my fair share of barbecue, from hidden gems to renowned smokehouses, but this one genuinely surprised me. It was rich, balanced, and memorable — the kind of meal that lingers with you long after the last bite. The beer list was equally well-crafted. It wasn’t overwhelming, but every option felt intentional. One of the Belgian-style pours immediately brought me back to past travels in Europe — familiar, yet with its own local character. What tied it all together was the atmosphere. Friendly staff, relaxed energy, and a setting that felt like it was made for long, unhurried evenings. Whether you’re exploring the area or just passing through, this spot offers something special — a rare blend of comfort, quality, and care. Highly recommend making it a stop on your journey — with or without a dog by your side.
Joey Z — Google review
It doesn't look like much from the outside, but this brewery has a fun inside and a large beer garden. The beer is French style, so not all or them were my favorite. There was a delicious blueberry beer though! I highly recommend getting the smoked dish dip. The bartenders was nice and knowledgeable, and he gave out small samples.
Maia H — Google review
Just a few blocks off the main drag, this place might look unassuming from the outside, but don’t let that fool you—it’s one of the best brewery experiences I’ve ever had. This family-run spot (shoutout to Danny and his dad George!) treats every guest like a regular, walking you through the beer list with care and great recommendations. The beer is outstanding. Danny, without formal brewing experience, went above and beyond—calling European breweries to match water profiles and stay true to tradition. Standouts include: Fleur de Mac (voted best beer in Michigan), Janis the Eagle (one of the only true Latvian beers in the U.S.), Blueberry Wheat (their top seller), and my personal favorite, Jacob’s Farmhouse. We also had the smoked whitefish on fresh bread with sweet & spicy pickles—absolutely delicious! This place is authentic, welcoming, and truly passionate about what they do. Skip the tourist traps and make this your go-to stop in Mackinaw City. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you are a Boonedocker traveler in a 30 Ft or less RV, Van, or Rig and traveling to Mackinaw City trust me this is where you want to book through Harvest Host for your overnight parking!! Not only will you get a menu option that is not the usual “bar” food but you’ll get multiple yummy beer options, out door sitting (fire pits) Count Me In!!! We just happened to come across this gem, while spending over an hour trying to find a place for over night parking in the city, folks it doesn’t exist just jump into Harvest Host and get your spot!!! Thank you Seth for the great service and the owners came in and suggested many points of interest from the cities to the Island. We had a peaceful night sleep.

Fantastic beer and food with a charming beer garden that’s both dog and kid friendly! The menu is small and the tap room didn’t look like much, but don’t let that fool you. This was a highlight of our up north trip. The Jacob’s Farmhouse beer and brisket sandwich were incredible. Definitely worth a stop and we’ll be back!
Sarah D — Google review
We stopped in at Bière de Mac on our way to the UP. Located off I-75 exit 337, this unassuming little brewery is simply amazing! Their beers are unique and incorporate the traditions of French and Belgian ales. The food menu is small, but the offerings are tasty and quality is top tier. We tried a flight of 6 beers and the Montréal brisket sandwich, and wow were we blown away by how good everything tasted! The staff was super friendly and welcoming too.
A C — Google review
Bière de Mac produces some really interesting styles of beer, notably their farmhouse ales, which were the highlight of the taplist for me. Everything I tried was really well-crafted and true to style. If you're in the Mackinac area and looking for some great beers outside of the normal styles you find at almost every brewery, check out Bière de Mac—you won't be disappointed.

Wawatam Park in Mackinaw City is a picturesque waterside park that offers various amenities for visitors to enjoy. It features a playground, picnic tables, grills, telescopes, and restrooms. The park provides an ideal setting for outdoor relaxation near the waterfront with its ample picnic spots and benches offering views of Mackinac Island in the distance. Visitors can take leisurely walks along the beach or paddle along the waterfront while admiring historic sites and lush green parks.
An old school small wooden playground for the kids. Has a few things that kept a 8 yr old way more content than a 2 yr old that could hardly traverse the structure. It seems part of the equipment are not what they used to be, but fun to a kid nonetheless. The beach is awesome and has a great view of the bridge to the left. This little park, is a true gem (that is free to use)! There is free 3 hour parking too. It has a small playground, a nice beach area on the shore of Lake Huron, great views of the Mackinaw Bridge, & bathrooms. There are also benches & picnic tables to use too. The beach area is a bit rocky, but there is some sand so you can easily get your toes in the sand. The water gets deep pretty quickly though, so beware if you chose to swim.

This is a great spot for the family. We visit every year and enjoy the waves as the ferry’s pass by. Decent little playground, places to sit and eat, and even bathrooms. The restrooms can get dirty if people are jerks but typically not that bad. Watch out for the gulls, they will attack your food if you’re not looking. Great views of the islands, bridge, and surrounding areas. Have fun!

Great open space to go for a stroll alone, with family, or with a four legged friend. Wonderful views of the water. Very relaxing. In walking distance of quaint shops, eateries, etc.

The entire park is frosted in a layer of goose feces, including the sidewalks. I would never dream of allowing my children to play in such a vile and disgusting environment.

Located in Mackinaw City, Animal Tracks is a popular mini-golf course known for its family-friendly atmosphere and forest and wildlife theme. The 18-hole course features waterfalls, rocks, and educational information about Northern Michigan animals and their tracks. Players are challenged to match the animals with their tracks on the hole markers. While some visitors found the holes relatively easy, they appreciated the scenic surroundings and enjoyed learning about local wildlife.
This course was a great break from a long drive. The greens were very consistent with nice putters. This is a very unique visit and I would totally recommend!!!

$37.06 for a round of gold for 2 adults and 2 kids with a discount from a flyer. About an hour and fifteen minutes for the 18 holes. Great scenery with lots of waterfalls . Very plain holes that are relatively easy for all ages which is to be expected. A few more water obstacles or bigger ornamental pieces around the course would have been nice. Bring drinks yourself as the vending machine was totally empty. Blackberry bush with fresh Blackberries at hole 7 was a nice treat. The family had fun. It’s nice and shady most of the way so you are not roasting in the sun.

This place is great. My son wanted to play putt putt so we happened to find this on google and we were so glad that we did!! It was such a great find and on the 10th hole you can take a little break and stop into Starbucks and then continue on with your game. We had a great time. I highly recommend stopping here.

Great golf. Gave it 4stars only because it is quite pricey. 😞 Grandsons loved it tho so we had fun.
Tim C — Google review
For 2 kids and 2 adults it was close to if not over 60 dollars. It rained the previous night but several of the holes had brown dirty water in them. I'm not sure why the attendant couldn't get a wet vacuum to clean out the holes or do something about this. The attendant was either stoned or hungover. Holes were OK but not taking care of the place after rain and leaving it like that for people to play on is wrong. I'd save your money to play putt putt back home honestly not worth the price. They up it cause your on vacation.
Ken B — Google review
Well maintained and updated. Very clean and course in great condition.
Brad M — Google review
It's well maintained and decorated with the bears and fountains. But the water or bears don't play any part in the course. I thought the price was very high for the flash but little substance. I know we're talking about mini golf, but put some bears on the course.

Looks like it's under construction, but my son & I decided to try it out. Cost was more than we expected. Online it a.stated it was $10 a person & we had a coupon (BOGO) & it still cost almost $20. Overall the course was nice & we got our money's worth. Would go again.

Nice public beach. Absolutely no place I'd rather be than on the Shores of one of Michigan's Great Lakes during Summer. The pizza here was legit amazing — super fluffy and just hit the spot. Loved that you can pick your own toppings too, and they’ve got some solid veggie options 👌🌱 The vibe inside is really nice, chill and cozy. Only thing is the wait was kind of long, but once the food came out… totally worth it. Also, those cheese breadsticks? Fire 🔥 Definitely coming back for more.
Pavan — Google review
I really enjoyed this place. We were greeted at the door but not in a pushy way. When entering the atmosphere was great, there was memorabilia all over the ceiling, some really cool light shades over the booths. There was a large bar area to the left and the kitchen was behind the bar at the back. After choosing what we wanted, we ordered at the bar. Server was very friendly. While waiting for our food I wondered to the rear of the restaurant where they had some arcade machines, some retro as well! I then had a look at the museum upstairs as well. It is very well done. Lots of memorabilia, newspaper cuttings, a few films playing and a couple of bridge models. We enjoyed the food, I had a cheese pizza and my wife had the spaghetti.
Daniel M — Google review
Absolute 5 star. People are nice and welcoming. I would highly recommend the plain chicken wings. They have crispy skin and juicy meat. Definitely one of the best wings I’ve ever had in my life here in the states. For photographers and history enthusiasts, the restaurant itself is a good place to explore. It brings me back to the good old days when workers were still endeavoring to build the Mackinac bridge.
Wuxi S — Google review
The pizza here is really good. Hard to describe the taste and texture though. It was not overly filling and didnt cause me to feel bloated like some pizza brands do. Perhaps it was because the pizza is not overly saucy. I only give the place a four because it was a little dated, which I know is the theme of such a place but I think having comfy booths instead of benches that would be great and maybe a renovated bathroom or change in color... something, anything. I do like places with glasses with their name on it though. I will be back some time.
Grant F — Google review
The cauliflower crust is good. Service was ok. Order at the counter, then pick your seat, then they call out your number (and everyone else's number) while you're there on a loud microphone. They have Styrofoam plates and plastic silverware. Tiny cups for water. Everything is self-serve. It feels like an old nineties skate rink.
Cathy P — Google review
This was my favorite late (ish) night restaurant in Mackinaw City. They have a bar, and a pretty wide range of food options. I loved the turkey sub, but also liked that they cooked slices fresh to order so I could customize my toppings for a slice of pizza (rather than needing to pick from what’s available). For kids, they have an arcade. For history buffs, they have a neat museum showing the history of building the Mackinaw Bridge (no photos of the food or restaurant, but here’s a few from the bridge museum)
Carolyn S — Google review
Everything here is self service. Ordering, getting your own drinks and refills. We ordered the Mama Mia Deluxe Medium and it was fantastic. The crust around the edges were crisp and there was no “flop”. The best pizza I’ve had in a while. Thanks.
Stewart M — Google review
Mama Mia's Pizza has been a staple in Mackinaw City for years. The food is made fresh to order and the staff are alwaays so helpful and hilarious throughout the experience. The cooks tonight seemed like they were having a grand time while working efficiently completing orders and engaging with their guests. The upstairs has more seating, but the real reason to check out the upstairs is the museum. It is full of newspaper clippings and other memorabilia, some dating back to when the 'Mighty Mac' Bridge was being built! They also have a short documentary movie playing about the building of the Mackinaw Bridge that is worth seeing. Even if you aren't hungry yet, they allow you to enjoy the wonderful museum and all it has to offer. Definitely a must stop both for filling an empty stomach and gaining more knowledge. My personal favorite part with tonight's experience was the staff alone. Way to go guys and gal and hope y'all have a fantastic holiday weekend!

Headlands International Dark Sky Park, located west of Mackinaw City in Northwest Lower Michigan, spans 550 acres of woodland and features over 2 miles of undeveloped Lake Michigan beach. The park offers a unique stargazing experience with its Dark Sky designation, featuring an observatory for researchers and staff, astronomy talks and tours, dedicated viewing platforms, and telescopes manned by volunteers.
Absolutely GORGEOUS! The winding sidewalk was dotted with red lights as guides, opening into a mini-ampitheatre of seating & colums overlooking the wild lake & giant sky. Behind the Event Center spreads undulating manicured lawns--great to set up telescopes and picnic blankets . It's all so genuinely BEAUTIFUL! Good for the soul! We came here at night, & again near sunset. It was overcast at night, but it was great to be that close to the water in that classically beautiful environment! The universe is framed by silhouetted treetops & an ever-unfurling lake, even behind a batting of clouds. Totally nurtures your humanity!
Atomic S — Google review
My first dark sky park experience, and this was so cool! We went during the sunset for some good views and checked out the gift shop. But the best part was going back at midnight for a few hours to look up at the sky and stars! I wish I had brought a blanket or a chair that lays back so I could lay back to see everything, and I was glad I brought layers because it was chilly at night. Also, wear bug spray; by the water at night and with all the forestry around, it was buggy. Lastly, I wish I had binoculars (or even better, a telescope)… if you have these definitely bring them! I don’t have pictures from nighttime, but have one from the gift shop and a few from the sunset.
Carolyn S — Google review
This place is AMAZING. If you go when it's dark, bring red light (no white light allowed). The gift shop is open 24/7 and very informative. Maybe bring a blanket/sheet. Some bug spray. Turn the brightenness down on your phone and turn off adaptive brightness and screen light to for facial recognition. Your eyeballs will thank you later as you acclimate them to the darkness, more and more stars become visible to your makes eye. Bright screens reset that process.
Gerid ( — Google review
A must see! It's beautiful during the day and it's not just for star gazing! From the website: The grounds, trails, and viewing areas at the Headlands are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Visitors are welcome to stay out through the night for dark-sky viewing opportunities, but camping is not permitted. The Headlands is not intended as an overnight sleeping destination but instead is designated as a place to stay awake and view the stars. You may bring blankets, chairs, food, beverages, etc. When packing, keep in mind that temperatures are typically 10 degrees lower than expected due to our proximity to the lake shore. As a courtesy to others, we do not permit white lights (flashlights or cell phones) in the designated viewing area. Red-filtered flashlights are permitted and are sold on-site. Well-mannered pets are permitted on a six-foot leash. View the Dark Sky Etiquette Guidelines before you visit.
Suzy — Google review
Love this place! I've been when the viewing of the night sky is perfect. Definitely, a gift to be able to experience the night sky at The Headlands. Such limited light noise allows spectacular views of the night sky. This is a very peaceful place to visit even on an overcast day. We enjoyed sitting on the tiered seats looking out at the water. Interesting information provided throughout the drive into the park too. Make sure to check their calendar for events. Many are offered throughout the year. Also, check to see if there are any private events that might close the gift shop or a portion of the park area before you arrive.
Wendy T — Google review
These views are just a very very short walk through the trees from the massive parking lot! BREATHTAKING! When I went it was not busy at all, and I felt like I had the area mostly to myself. Well worth it to stop here- I know I'll return again and again!
Jamie M — Google review
What an awesome spot for all of your dark sky watching! From rock picking during the day to catching northern lights with like minded people is great. When you make your way out of the park and make it to the road, go straight thru the stop sign instead of turning right. It's a gorgeous view of the bridge!

We really like this smaller casino, has a little bar restaurant which has really good food. People (workers) here are always friendly. Every time we go up north we come here a few times every trip. Never won big or lost big but every time we have come here we get excellent play time and have fun. And to us, having fun and play time is more important than winning big.
Robert R — Google review
Its small. But ok. The restaurant though has great tasting food but was very unhappy when they charged $2 just to give us an empty plate. Called it a sharing charge and didn't bother to tell us that ahead of time. With my health I cant eat hardly anything I literally had 2 green beans and 2 small bites of friends prime rib. I could have went without. And they charge u $1 for any takeout orders. Which ok i can understand that. But when sent email about the sharing charge and explained they could at least let people know ahead of time etc not one response back. This is the only place I have ever seen charge a sharing charge.
Shari R — Google review
I am not a casino fan by nature; I can take them or leave them, but it's the food they serve that's the lure for me ... and Odawa doesn't disappoint. This is a smaller venue, so the dining area kind of reminds you of a little Cafe. Don't let size fool you; the food they serve is first rate. They have specials every day, but if I had to pick one, it would be Saturday. Saturday is Prime Rib day and it is worth it, believe me. If you have to wait to get seated, just watch all of the Prime Rib dinners coming out of the kitchen and you will know what to order. My wife likes their Pulled Pork sandwiches ... says they're top notch too. As I said, casinos don't thrill me all that much, but I'm willing to rate the food and this one's a winner.

We used complimentary dollars from the hotel and played the penny machines. The employees are very helpful if you have any problem. There is a restaurant/grill inside but we didn't have a chance to check it out. Just on the outskirts of Mackinac City, easy to locate and a huge parking lot.

Mackinaw Area Historical Society Heritage Village is a living history center that brings late-1800s village life to life through restored buildings and educational programs. The village represents the area's history from 1880 to 1917, showcasing the transitional period when significant changes occurred.
We took our children there on our way out of town and spent almost 2 hours walking around the property, exploring all of the buildings, and having really great conversations about what life was like back in the late 1800s. The volunteers on site were very knowledgeable and were extremely friendly. No cost; just a donation if you feel. Definitely worth checking out with the family! We will be following the Historical Society to stay informed of events held at Heritage Village.

This is one of my must stops when traveling up north. The history, the beautiful water crashing on the shores. You never know what will be on the lake, from a little fishing boat, to a sail boat, to a tug, to a freight liner passing under the Mighty Mac. I recommend anyone heading up that way to stop. And let's not forget the fort this aloan is a must see.

decided to stop here on our way out of Mackinaw, it ended up being our favorite part of our day!!! no one else was there, it felt like a dream. meadows of milkweed and hundreds of butterflies. a lovely serene hiking trail. interesting buildings with all sorts of historical information. highlight: walking up towards the garden to find that, Betty (a volunteer), was gardening her portion of the garden. she spoke to my friend and I for over an hour; telling us stories of her life, of the village, and the world. it was surreal and so special getting to meet her and learning from her! definitely come by if you’re interested in a very unique experience!

Beautiful Beach View of the Mackinaw Bridge. If you look just across the water, you can see Mackinaw Island in the distance. This waterfall freezes every year and portrays beautiful blues and greens that illuminate through the ice and the unique form it takes on when frozen in time.

Still one of the most peaceful, quaint little known about parks in Mackinaw City. The city has become so commercialized and lost its small town appeal somewhere in the last 20 years but this park holds onto what’s left of it. Great views of the Mighty Mac and the island. Quiet because your are far enough from the bridge not to hear the trucks and are located off a side street. Limited parking. Benches, picnic tables, Beach, flowers, water and waves. Just sit down take a breath and enjoy the views.

Historical landmark
McGulpin Rock, located near Mackinaw City in Northern Michigan, has been a significant navigational landmark since the 1600s. French explorers first noted this massive rock in 1615 near the Straits of Mackinaw. Weighing 54 tons and standing at nine feet tall, it is situated downhill from McGulpin Point Lighthouse.
The beach seems to be not particularly well-known, perhaps because it's rocky, perhaps because it's a short drive away from some of the touristy-er spots in the area. But this was a really cool place to see. Excellent view of the bridge, and it seems like it'd be a pretty awesome spot to take in a sunrise or sunset.

This rocky beach has gorgeous views but it was super slimy/muddy which made it slippery so bring good shoes!! The rock is way bigger than it looks so I wasn’t able to get pictures of my dog on it but still super cool to see!

Don't miss out on this little hidden spot. Great views of the lake and Mackinaw bridge. I parked across from the lighthouse and walked my dog down to the water then walked back up thru the trail where you can learn more about the history of McGulpin Rock. The trail will lead you to the light house.
Kristy S — Google review
Nice rocky beach to see the Mackinaw from the west side view. Nor too busy, good place to enjoy listening to the waves. Mcgulpin Lighthouse is there also, unfortunately did not have time to tour. Walking trail also through the woods.

I'm not sure why this so popular. It's a rock, while big most of it is under the water.

Nice view of the bridge, unfortunately had haze from Canadian wild fires.

We enjoyed our historical tour and the ride over the Mackinaw Bridge. Our tour guide did a wonderful job of telling the history of the restaurants, history of the town, light house, and the fort and more. His enthusiasm about the history of Mackinaw City kept us interested. We have been coming to Mackinaw City for many years and had never taken the trolley before, I'm glad we did and I would recommend it, it was fun, and a very reasonable price. Note, you must book your ride through the hotel you are staying at and they will pick you there.

Riding the carriage now. I understand they hire foreign students to operated the carriages. Paula’s accent is so thick that my guest can not understand what she is saying and 50% of the time I can’t either. I just wasted 70.00 bucks!!’ A horrible experience. I have taken many of my guest on this tour and rave about how wonderful it is! Not this time though. I’m so disappointed right from the start…

We loved the tour! Our only complaint is that it's difficult to get information about it ahead of time beyond the times & apparently you can only buy tickets from your motel. The tour itself, however, was wonderful! The driver was knowledgeable, friendly, on time, & safe. It was also very convenient being picked up right at our motel. I highly recommend this tour!

The folks at Mackinaw Trolley were so very accommodating. We split from our tour group to go over to the Island a day early to avoid predicted bad weather. They picked us up at our hotel and brought us to the trolley dock, honored our prepaid tickets a day earlier than scheduled, and went above and beyond to help my friend who uses a walker. Dawayne was especially helpful the following day in offering to take us back to our hotel after we had walked uptown to eat breakfast. Top notch service and friendly helpful staff. Highly recommended

The driver was very knowledgable and interesting. During the break across the bridge, my wife and I had a great conversation with him regarding some of the history. Because of the tour we spent the next day going to the fort and lighthouse.
Troy T — Google review
Very nice ride to learn about the history. Only complaint was that our driver was 13 minutes late. He had already started the tour and came back for us. We missed part of the tour. Worth riding to learn or just relax

Great place to go for a fun time. Tons of games this year, even more than last year. Godzilla was super fun to play and the curved air hockey table was pretty cool too.

Kids had a blast! Within walking distance to most hotels and my boys went every night before bed. So fun! A little pricey but still worth it!
Melissa P — Google review
Really high priced games, low ticket give out and really awful prizes unless you collect a lot, which will take awhile. We've been to a lot of arcades and my family agreed they didn't like this one. They had traditional games and some ones we haven't seen, but the cost is high. You can use your credits for bowling, but we didn't have enough to try it out. When your credits get below 100 there are very few games you can play, you have to reload.
