San Juan in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in San Juan, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
San Juan is the capital of Puerto Rico, a beautiful island in the Caribbean, with amazing beaches, many historical sites, a vibrant culture and a wonderful climate. Old San Juan, the historic heart of the city, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a great place to start your visit. The cobblestone streets are filled with art galleries and interesting little shops. The 16th century fortress Castillo San Felipe del Morro (El Morro) sits on a promontory (headland) guarding the entrance to San Juan Bay. The fort is a National Historic Landmark.
With favorites like La Tortuga Bistro Bar, Playa Ocean Park, and Casa Blanca, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Sazón Cocina Criolla DTMO and Sur Barra Nikkei so you can get the best taste of San Juan while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Shopping mall
Shopping
Plaza Las Américas is a modern indoor shopping plaza in San Juan, offering a variety of stores and restaurants for visitors to enjoy. With its arched mezzanines and seasonal decor, the mall provides a perfect setting for some retail therapy or to pick up any forgotten items. While it may not offer traditional Puerto Rican souvenirs, it boasts over three hundred stores including chain outlets, the latest fashion trends, American dining options, movie theaters, and unique shops.
Largest mall in the Carribean! Lots of shops and small food vendors (my favorite part) if you're looking for a leisure day of shopping and souvenir buying this is it! I highly recommend wearing comfortable shoes as the mall has 4 levels I believe with food being on the 3rd floor. Remember where you parked as well!
Kiarylane C — Google review
Plaza Las Américas in San Juan is absolutely stunning and such a unique shopping experience. The mall is huge, bright, and beautifully designed — from the tall ceilings with skylights to the palm trees that give it a tropical yet modern feel. Everything is spotless, well-maintained, and welcoming. What makes it even better is the variety you can find here. There are so many stores, from international brands to local Puerto Rican shops, plus a wide selection of restaurants and cafés where you can relax in between shopping. You can easily spend hours walking around without ever feeling cramped, since the spaces are open and airy. The atmosphere feels both elegant and family-friendly. It’s more than just a mall — it’s really a destination where you can shop, dine, and enjoy a comfortable environment. Every time I visit Puerto Rico, Plaza Las Américas is a stop I never want to miss. It’s not just about shopping, it’s about enjoying the beauty and energy of one of the largest malls in the Caribbean.
Nestor C — Google review
The largest mall in the Caribbean. It is filled with local stores as well as large ones known in the US. Be ready to walk as it is large and beautiful. From Thursday to Sunday, you go to the third floor (by the escalators near the three Columbus ship flags) and enjoy local food. There you can enjoy eating pastries, drink some amazing shakes (local fruits) and by local treats, plants, vegetables, etc. Some kiosks only take cash. There’s also a near by store called “Hecho en PR” the sells everything local - coffee, breakfast stuff and liquor.
Marco P — Google review
The largest shopping mall in the Caribbean for a reason. There you can find a large selection of brands, and eateries for all tastes and budgets. They have plenty of free parking around the mall with several entrances and exits. Valet parking is also available at the Cheesecake Factory entrance. They also have a cinema and even a dealership with full auto service inside. Some of my guilty pleasures I can find here are the chocolate covered strawberries, strawberries with a delicious cream, and the candy apples filled with nostalgia. Those take me back to my childhood. The place is ‘Gustitos Y Mas’ @tusgustitosymas which is right across Charlotte Russe if you are wondering. Are you visiting Puerto Rico? Add this shopping mall to one of your stops.
Joel R — Google review
Beautifully designed mall. There is plenty of indoor parking. Lots of place on all floors to have a quick bite or dinner. There are plenty of stores to shop from or get a piercing or tattoo. The stores are so diverse. Also, there are lots of treats to eat chocolate, ice cream, cookies, and / or coffee shops. It's clean, and there are benches to relax while a friend or significant other shops.
Edwin A — Google review
Crazy big mall with SO many stores and food options. We came here for the Bad Bunny experience and stayed to shop and eat.
Maritza G — Google review
Beautiful mall. 3 - 4 floors of shopping. Lots of parking
Brian L — Google review
The plaza is all in one shopping mall. The food court is quite as big too, a variety of food from Chinese cuisine, pizza, pasta, KFC, wraps and all. These will be on the 3rd floor. Getting a seat after purchasing a meal be it a quick bite or a decent sit down meal. This is also depends on the time of the day but generally the place is busy. School kids are also a part of the people who throng in the plaza during lunch breaks. The shops on the first floor are more on the clothes, lingerie and electrical appliances. A lot of assistance will be required for non Spanish speaking shoppers. Free Wi-fi garnishes the plaza and some will just visit the place to access free internet. The internet is super fast despite the numerous number of users. Right in front of the Plaza one can access cabs that costs $20 one way, the fare doesn’t change even if you are five people using the cab and using the same drop off location. Some of the rides are luxurious rides for real. It was an amazing experience for me to ride a Chev Suburban. Very spacious and super comfy. From the Plaza one can take a 10 minute ride to get to the cruise terminal where these big ships will be docked. A wonder to behold. The cruisers set the town alive with their numbers and activities as time takes no notice of their presence.

Lote 23, located in Santurce, is a vibrant food park and community center that opened in late 2016. It offers a variety of dining options from kiosks and Airstream trailers, serving everything from hearty plates of pernil to light poke bowls and handmade popsicles. The park also hosts events like yoga sessions, film screenings, and artisan markets.
Amazing place with loads of great food and drink options. Fabulous cocktails, good craft beers and tasty food. The Lot I’d full of young, beautiful, trendy people. I had a poke bowl and my companion had ramen, both were delicious. Absolutely go here if you’re in the area

Really friendly service. Lots of food options, plenty of seating, good music, public bathroom, nice art, easy to get to. Love the atmosphere. Saw a roaming hen with two small chicks.

I loved the different choices of food options we could choose from. It was a nice easy walk from the art museum too. The food was delicious

The drinks at Tequila Cantina are delicious and the bartender is super sweet. We came here after trying to go to La Casita Blanca . It was a 2 hour wait there . Mofongo here was great but don’t do Bicteca . The pork was little too salty. If you are a New Yorker (Nuevayol in the house ) go for the drinks and maybe pizza , the locals love their pizza here .

Great options unique flavors and all the trucks were super chill no one was aggressive or fighting for your business the staff was super patient too

This food cart pod reminds me of home in Portland, Oregon. Lots of variety. Great food at La Sobrina and tasty beer from Salitre.

First time coming here, loved it. Awesome for the whole family LOTS OF VARIETY from drink like beer rum mojitos, Mexican food, pizza, soup, burger, ice cream. Definitely recommend it to everyone. Went to Postreo Jaus, PIRA.RUM (Watermelon Mojito), Deep Dish (cheese deep dish & meat lover tavern pizza) today. All were awesome

Very nice touristic place for a beer or a coctail. Even better at night. We ate a Carribean food from the green track . Very delicious but pricey. (16$ with tax). They say that PR is a bit cheaper than the US but the prices here are still expensive. Nice for a drink only.

DISTRITO T-Mobile

Event venue
DISTRITO T-Mobile, also known as the T-Mobile District, is a popular open-air events and entertainment venue located in the heart of the Convention Center District in San Juan. Since its opening in 2021, it has become a favorite destination for both locals and visitors. The five-acre complex offers a vibrant atmosphere with a variety of restaurants and bars to choose from, catering to different tastes.
This was a huge place for entertainment! I thought we would just be able to park n walk in but there was a long line into a big lot to park. How long you're there depends on the price for parking. I attended a Saturday night and with a guest performing super busy but super lit! This place has restaurants, drinks, vendors selling different things, live music, and plenty of good photo backgrounds. There is a place with nothing but games similar to a Dave & Busters and their drinks were so good!! This is an awesome place for entertainment or to eat. The line was pretty long for Medina so we didn't make it in but it has alot of TVs if you're willing to wait. If your visiting I would go for sure at least 1 night here.
Tiffany N — Google review
Distrito T-Mobile is conveniently located next to the convention center and walking distance to numerous hotels. There is ample parking with signs that let you know how many parking spots are available at each lot, but beware, as the night continues, it may get busier and harder to find a parking spot-especially if there are performers. During the early afternoon, you will see many families with children, but as the night goes on, you see less children and more adults. It is a very family friendly environment. In the sitting area you will find rocking chairs and large connect 4 games to keep the children and the young at heart entertained. You will see people of all ages dancing to both a great DJ or live music. For people with light and music sensitivity, it can be overstimulating because the lights are bright and are constantly changing just like in a dance club and the music is loud (sounds great!) to a person with noise sensitivity so I would suggest bringing noise canceling headphones. The place smells amazing with all of the different smells. There is something there to eat for all palates. If you are adventurous, there is a zip line available to take it all in from up above. Don’t forget to take pictures and walk outside to get the I ❤️PR sign. The sidewalks are stroller and wheelchair friendly because they have ramps. Take your parking ticket with you so you pay for it in the machines prior to returning to your car.
Ru S — Google review
The vibe was amazing. All the lights are beautiful perfect spot to watch the games. Many things to do there. Eat drink or just hanging out. You will enjoy.
Ruben R — Google review
It was definitely a cool spot to visit. We had an early dinner at Sazon food was good. I would agree that it is definitely family friendly , as there were children and pets when we went. Would I go again ummm maybe later in the evening when kiddies are gone. I am a mom mad grandma so I would return later just because it would probably be more of an adult vibe. We went around 5-6pm, so it was early early.
Isaura R — Google review
Omg my first time here, to celebrate my daughter's 21 birthday. It was amazing love vibes the food was amazing and good prices. I totally recommend this place 10 star
Nelly I — Google review
It was nice here. Very kid friendly. They have a dj out playing music while you relax. They have a ton of different restaurants. If you want to zipline they have that plus a Dave and buster type of arcade. It is very crowded and hurry and get a seat because later in the day it can be hard to get.

Beaches
Balneario El Escambrón is a picturesque public beach located just outside Old San Juan in Puerto Rico. It features clean sand, calm waters, and views of the nearby Fort San Felipe del Morro. The beach is ideal for families and swimmers of all ages, with lifeguards on duty and restrooms available for convenience. Additionally, it offers opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving around its coral reef.
It was pretty busy when we went, so we hung out under the trees and on the rocks. Be sure to have crocs or swim shoes if you go in the water by the rocks as there were sea anemone there. They have a fountain to wash off the water. Trees. Good vibes. We had a blast. Glad we had tweezers as I fell on a sea anemone. I’m okay, just a little spine was in.
P F — Google review
One of my favorite beach of Puerto Rico. The facilities are great, the environment and the view is amazing. You can enjoy a great view of El Morro, and part of the north of old San Juan. Is a great beach for the family specially if you have kids. Have lifeguards in the beach.
Christian F — Google review
Nice little beach. Lots of people due to it being one of the only beaches in the area. The water gets deep quick. Decent waves.
Travis C — Google review
Love the flag planted on the little island across the beach. Beautiful views of the el capitolio de puerto rico building, del morro, castillo san cristobal. All very nice =]
Lucas L — Google review
Visited during my stay at the Sheraton (free regular shuttle) and it was so chill! You can rent umbrellas and chairs, a good move if planning to be there all day or for a good amount of time $30. The waves were hittin strong, so be careful and know your swim level, but there is a lifeguard. I didn’t see any food nearby which was a bummer, cause we hadn’t planned right to stay longer. Would definitely go back with snacks and plans to stay longer.
East M — Google review
This beach is centrally located with beautiful views of El Morro. There is plenty of parking which is a flat rate of $7. Make sure you pay prior to exiting the parking lot. You can pay cash or card at the machine. There is a place to rinse the sand off of your feet and public restrooms as well. The water is clear turquoise and there are lifeguards during specific hours. Very well kept.

Creole restaurant
Sazón Cocina Criolla DTMO, located in Distrito T-Mobile, is a Puerto Rican restaurant that offers an authentic culinary experience. The menu features a variety of dishes such as stuffed mofongos, flavorful paella jibara, asopao de camarones (shrimp stew), and Caribbean lobster. The restaurant provides attentive service and delicious food, with the only downside being the loud outdoor environment due to performances.
We love District T-Mobile! The food and drinks were amazing and even though this place was packed, the service was extremely amazing. I had the salmon and rice and beans my husband had the steak sandwich. The drinks are on point. This was our second day in PR and we’ve been to the District twice lol already. One last thing, the menu is insane! Lots of options

Ivan our waiter was amazing! Very attentive and helpful. Food was very good. Chuleta Kan Kan is good but a bit hard. Churrasco was very good and tender, done perfectly. Nice atmosphere. Very busy place and food took a while to come out but it was busy especially today that it's Easter. Will be coming back.
Jennifer M — Google review
Food was decent. My chicken wings were very dry. Service was good. It rained pretty hard while we were eating outside so it was a nice ambiance. Pretty pricy for the food, but that’s the theme of the restaurants in the TMobile district.
Travis C — Google review
Food was good. My favorite thing was the Jibaro rice, it had perfect flavor! We loved the Filete de mero with garlic sauce. My favorite puertorrican food is tostones and the ones they served us tasted like old frozen ones (very bad). Overall the Jibaro ricr was so good I forgat the tostones.
Iriana C — Google review
Good restaurant with amazing food and nice staff. There was a wait and the outside seating does have a view of the T-Mobile district if that’s your thing. Some dishes were pricey but they were also good in the moment. HUGE portions had some left over for the next day. The flavored lemonades were delicious

If you’re staying at the Aloft San Juan by the Convention Center, you are in for a treat. Just steps from the hotel's front door is Sazón Cocina Criolla, in the heart of Distrito T-Mobile. Whether you're solo or with a group of friends, this restaurant and the location are a great choice and offer a variety of traditional dishes. I started out with an Empanadilla de Pernil for my appetizer. This was a first for me as I usually get this with beef, but the pernil was a solid recommendation. For my entree, I had Churrasco with Plantanos, which really hit the spot. All of this went along great with a Pina Colada. Salon is located inside the T-Mobile District and is absolutely a great spot to spend some time and unwind. Between the music, the flavors, and the energy, Sazón amounts to more than just a dinner. It’s an absolutely great experience, which is why it is one of my regular spots.
Antonio R — Google review
This was our worse dining experience we have ever had on this beautiful Island. Our waitress was Dennise, she rarely checked on our table. Our drinks took about 25 minutes to arrive. It was myself and two teenagers 15 and 17. Our food took an hour to arrive, I ordered stewed cod (horrible it was very fishy tasting I assume the fish was not fresh). My sides were rice and beans (rice was sticky and beans had no taste at all, very bland). I also ordered arepas, they were delicious. Most of our food was left as we couldn't eat it. My granddaughter ordered Sorullos stuffed with cheese and Mini alcapurrias (they were over cooked and hard). The Sorullos were good. My other granddaughter ordered the same as myself (stewed cod) She tried eating it and like me, she didn't like it. She liked the arepas that came with it. Also ordered was Mofongo, very dry, took one bite only, left the rest. I had sweet tea and loved it. The girls had non-alcoholic Pina Colada (they each drank two, they really loved it). I personally will not return here (My bill was $103 I left a $17 tip our server looked at it and walked away. Not even a thank you and I went against my granddaughter's wishes not to tip because our server did not serve our food someone else came plus the fact that she never came back to check on us! Please check the place out for yourselves, you may have a better experience, One thing I can say is that it does not represent the authentic culinary heritage of our Puerto Rican culture that is experienced throughout the Island. The tourist seem to like the place so that's great for the economy. Not worth the money we spent. Very pricy for food we didn't eat. DTMO is a great place and fun time for all members of the family.
Yolanda G — Google review
People complaining about the wait don’t understand “island time.” We had a great experience here. I don’t speak Spanish and have a severe allergy. They took my allergy card and checked with the chef and manager and took great care of me. They brought the kids food out first so there was no waiting around for the little ones and the waiter checked back on to make sure things were good with my allergies. Such a great experience here and the food and cocktails were absolutely fantastic. Thank you all so much!

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Santurce, Sur Barra Nikkei is a culinary gem that beautifully intertwines the rich flavors of Peruvian and Japanese cuisines. This innovative restaurant, led by Chef Rafael Ubior Serrati, offers an inviting atmosphere where each dish tells a story of cultural fusion. Diners can expect delightful surprises like zesty Peruvian sauces enhancing delicate sashimi or creative uses of wasabi in traditional Latin fare.
Wow! This place is amazing, the flavors are so nice and different. Edgardo was our server , took the time to explain the menu, 5 star for him. Cocktails are also really good . We will come back.

First off this place meets and exceeds all expectations. Edwin a master at his craft mixed a number of cocktails to perfection. Also was kind enough to suggest apps and entry which were all on point. Surely will return over and over.

One of the best meals and restaurant experiences of my life. Not only the food, but the service. Our server, Nisyha, was so knowledgeable and passionate about the dishes and our experience it made our dinner all the more enjoyable. Edwin is an incredible mixologist and I highly recommend Espiritu Libra. There is food and then there are dishes created with so much passion and love that the flavors transcend. El Mercado y su Pulpo was an explosion of flavors so perfectly balanced I will be thinking about it for days to come. Post Casa Moreyra was one of the best ceviches I’ve had. The wasabi leche de tigre was so smooth and creamy with just enough spice to enhance the dish. The matcha cheesecake with black sesame and sesame ice cream made me cry. Go hungry, try new dishes, expect to have the time of your life. Gracias por la mejor comida de mi vida!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Everything was amazing. Staff and service was excellent. We were a group of 4 and we had the tasting menu so we got to try a little of everything. I dined solo at Sur Barraní Nikkei PR, and it was absolutely phenomenal. The food was outstanding — their ceviche is to die for. I sat at the bar and didn’t have a cocktail, but the bartender was incredibly nice and clearly a true craftsman. Watching him make things like vermouth-flavored marshmallows from scratch was so impressive! You can tell everything here is made with care and creativity. The staff were attentive and welcoming, and the whole experience felt special from start to finish. Highly recommend this place — it’s a gem for both food and craft cocktail lovers.

Hamburger restaurant
The restaurant El Hamburguer is a local favorite for those looking for some of the best burgers around. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and there's always a line but it moves quickly. They have a wide variety of burgers to choose from, including options with bacon, yucca and sweet potato fries. Two burgers are usually enough food for most people. This unique place is definitely worth a visit!
This joint is a San Juan staple that locas and tourists can all agree on. Whether you want a quick bite after swimming in the ocean or a late night snack after drinking, this is the place. I like to think of it as the Boricua White Castle. When you visit PR, this is one place you have to try. Great burger. *note that I forgot to take a pick of my food because I visited after one of those nights of drinking ;) aprovechó!
Alex R — Google review
Used the drive through for my first visit. Have to add all the ingredients to the burger so not as economical as other places for a burger. Not sure if the burger was supposed to be flattened but the hamburger was more of a shape of a ball versus a patty. While the burger was cooked to perfection it lacked flavor. Fries are far better than the onion rings.
Del V — Google review
The wait line is outside of the main entrance door. Great traditional burgers. Juicy. Not burnt. Quick service, once seated. Great pricing in a tourist area. We did a side of onion rings to add onto our bacon burger. We walked from the parking garage and the views along the beach were very nice. One bathroom each for male and female.

Cheese burger 3/5, for a fresh made burger it was lacking some test, but properly cooked. Hotdog Large 5/5, great taste, specially with Onions. Onion rings 5/5 great taste and fresh. French fries 3/5 with no ketchup with ketchup 4/5 Wait time 4/5 gets busy but was able to skip the line due to small group size(2). Service 3/5 kind but too busy to feel prioritized, brought us the wrong order originally asked for a bacon burger. Overall it was a pleasant experience.
Yareth P — Google review
Such a neat spot. The burger comes as a giant ball and had a great grill/char flavor but as an fyi, it is plain ground beef. Imo could use some seasoning in there but it still tasted good! Other toppings are extra. Recommend getting bacon, they give a nice helping. Fries were great.

Great place for a burger and fries. Been coming here since a kid and the burgers and fries have been the same consistently. Burgers are on the smaller side in the meat to bun ratio but taste and mouthfeel always spot on. Parking it is customary to tip a dollar to the guy if you park in their parking lot. I usually tip if the guy is still there after eating and walking back to the car. You won't be disappointed eating here, great food and great ambience.

This a quaint hamburger joint in old San Juan. Scenic ocean front across the street. Easy to find. But the parking lot is small. An employee watches the cars so they have security. The wine burger is good and they add plenty of bacon. The onion rings are very good(homemade). I loved them. Better than Burger king by a mile. The service is pretty fast. Its best to go close to opening hours to get parking. But there are parking lots close by. They put puertorican music so the atmosphere is very relaxing.

We had a nice walk along the water to El Hamburguer, though we had to wait outside due to how busy it was. Once seated, ordering was easy, and our food came out quickly. The burger and fries were tasty, but the shake wasn’t to my liking. I’d definitely return, though—the lively atmosphere, with lots of young couples and families enjoying their meals, makes it a fun spot.

Restaurant
Cocina Abierta, which translates to "open kitchen," is a cosmopolitan restaurant in San Juan led by Argentine chef Martin Louzao. The restaurant offers innovative tasting menus with wine pairings and cocktails, emphasizing pan-Latin cuisine with influences from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean. What sets Cocina Abierta apart is its interactive experience for diners, as it features an open kitchen where guests can watch the talented kitchen staff prepare diverse creations.
We arrived earlier than our reservation time and they seated us immediately. The bartender was generous with his pours; the drink tasted delicious and was worth the price. Most places they charge you a lot but there's so little alcohol in the cocktail. Not here. The food was phenomenal! Five course dinner and each course was a full serving. We couldn't eat it all but we definitely tried. This is one of those restaurants that even when you're full, you still keep eating because the food is SO good!! I seriously recommend coming in hungry because this chef will make sure you leave completely satisfied.

Cocina Abierta was absolutely stellar. The dishes were some of the best I have had. The staff were attentive, informed, and happy to guide us through the menu. As a vegetarian with a few allergies, I felt well accommodated, and everything I tried was unique and delicious. I’ve included pictures but they don’t do justice on eating each ingredient with care and the delight.

We had a fantastic time at Cocina Abierta, we did the 5-course menu & it was a fabulous representation of elevated traditional cuisine. The wine selection is also great and well priced, and we are very appreciative of Oné who took amazing care of us. We will be back!

Nice experience since arriving here. Parking 🅿️ available near to the restaurant. The host is Very nice. We had the best waiter Christopher. He explain the concept, the service was 10/10. thanks 🙏🏽 Christopher!!. Recommend the experience. I went there to celebrate my husband birthday 🎉 and was grateful! The chef design a delicious meal and nice presentation.

A uniquely wonderful dining experience from start to finish. Each dish was a feast for the senses and everyone we interacted with was gracious and kind. The highlights for me were the duck mofongo and the “wildcard” cocktail made by the incredibly talented in-house mixologist, Rafael. This was such a special evening and I hope to return someday!

Food was good but expecting more for the prices. Waiter could be nicer and more friendly for this type of restaurant. Appetizer was very good. This is a hit or mix. Again tooo expensive, $400 per couple. Portions very small.

We were looking for an upscale experience in San Juan for the weekend and Cocina Abierta delivered without breaking the bank. We did the $85 tasting menu and every dish was exceptional, with the dessert probably being the highlight of the meal. Cocktails were also delicious and complemented our meal well.

San Juan National Historic Site, established in 1949, is a combination of El Morro and San Cristobal forts operated by the National Park Service. The site played a crucial role in Spanish defense efforts and control of the Caribbean route for over 250 years. Visitors can explore the forts' tunnels, dungeons, ramps, and barracks while learning about their rich history.
Beautiful, historic fort overlooking the harbor. Many areas are in direct sun so use sunscreen if necessary. There are quite a few stairs to the water level. You will have to pay admission but it's good for both forts in a 24 hour period. San Felipe is really close to the old town historic area. Worth a visit if you like history and learning new things about San Juan.

This is a great place to learn about Puerto Rico's 's history and colonial past. There is plenty to see throughout the whole historian site. I will warn that four-wheelter as he could be a little difficult getting around as this building is from the 1500s. Considering this is a story site, you would think that the United States would do a better job at making it a little more accessible. We used to be able to go down to the lower parts but now those are blocked off. You can still reach the top through A ramp. You are in a wheelchair. If you have issues with heat, make sure you bring plenty of water because it's just gets very hot in there really is no air conditioner. Is a great place for pictures, kite flying, I'm just hanging out on the grass. If you are someone who has a national parks pass, you can get into this place for free. If you have a disability you can apply for one on their website.

The fortress is MASSIVE and so well-preserved. You can really imagine what life was like when soldiers were stationed here hundreds of years ago. The views of the ocean are absolutely stunning - bring your camera! I could have spent hours just taking photos from the different levels. There are so many rooms, tunnels and lookout spots to explore. The staff was friendly and they have these little exhibits explaining the history. I had no idea the fort was attacked so many times throughout history! If you're in San Juan, this is absolutely a must-see. Give yourself at least 2 hours to really explore it properly.

It's a special and magical place, because you can enjoy it with your family. The oldest remember their childhood while teaching their children about the island history and how to fly a homemade kite or "chiringa". You can enjoy a sunny and breezy day around the sea! Also, the pets enjoying a funny day with the family.

Just WOW! The history that I was able to experience here was just out of this world. We were able to walk around in all sorts of areas where there were bunkers, jail cells, hidden passageways, and gorgeous 360 views. Afterwards, you can walk the long way around close to the water, but be aware that you must walk all the way around, there are no ways to veer off! Going here is definitely a must do when visiting San Juan! Also be sure to bring your Passport to Your National Parks so you can get your cancellation stamp!!!!

Absolutely gorgeous and very humbling. A must-see! We did not go inside but the outside views alone were worth the trip!

Worth the walking and reasonable walk from the square. A bit of uphill walking and recommend walking on right side then going left as the walk would be a bit easier. If you buy a ticket for Historic Site, you can visit the other location with receipt.

Castillo San Felipe del Morro, also known as El Morro, is a 16th-century Spanish fortification located on a promontory in Old San Juan. The fort features cannons pointing seaward and boasts an impressive display of military defense with four levels of cannon-bearing batteries rising 140 feet from the sea. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the shore and explore the expansive grassy lawn surrounding the fort.
An Unforgettable Visit to Castillo San Felipe del Morro Visiting El Morro was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Puerto Rico. The moment you arrive, you can feel the history and pride that this fortress represents. Built in the 16th century by the Spanish, the structure stands majestically overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, offering breathtaking views and a deep sense of connection to the island’s past. The site is beautifully maintained — the grounds are clean, the pathways are easy to follow, and the walls and cannons have been wonderfully preserved. The staff members were not only friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating facts and stories that helped bring the history of the fort to life. We spent a good amount of time exploring the tunnels, ramps, and lookout points, each one revealing another layer of the fort’s impressive design and purpose. It’s a great spot for both history lovers and families, with plenty of open space for walking and taking photos. Parking was convenient, with a nearby lot just a short walk away. I highly recommend adding Castillo San Felipe del Morro to your list when visiting Old San Juan — it’s more than just a landmark, it’s a journey back in time that leaves you proud and inspired.

An absolute gem in Puerto Rico! 🇵🇷✨ Castillo San Felipe del Morro is pure magic — a stunning mix of history, ocean views, and architecture that leaves you speechless. Every step tells a story, and every view is postcard-worthy. I could’ve stayed there all day soaking in the beauty and energy of this incredible place! 😍🌊 Took my breath away. The views of the ocean and city are unreal — you can truly feel the history in every corner. Standing on those walls with the sea breeze and sound of the waves was such a peaceful, magical moment. A place you can’t miss when visiting Puerto Rico! 🇵🇷✨

Absolutely Divine and Super Fun Experience! Visiting Castillo San Felipe del Morro in San Juan, Puerto Rico, was an absolutely divine and unforgettable experience. From the moment you walk toward the massive fortress, you can feel the weight of history and the pride of Puerto Rico’s past. The thick stone walls, ancient cannons, and winding tunnels tell stories of centuries gone by — and yet the place feels so alive, filled with light, breeze, and joy. The views are breathtaking. Standing at the top of the fortress, looking out at the endless Atlantic Ocean, you truly understand why El Morro is one of Puerto Rico’s most iconic landmarks. The vast green lawn in front of the fort is perfect for relaxing, having a picnic, or flying kites with family and friends — something you’ll see locals and visitors enjoying all day long. Walking through the different levels of the fortress feels like stepping back in time. Every corner offers something unique — stunning views, photo opportunities, and a sense of peace that’s hard to describe. The site is beautifully preserved and very clean, and the park rangers are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to share stories about the history of the fort. If you can, visit in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat and enjoy the soft ocean breeze. And don’t miss the sunset — the golden light reflecting off the stone walls and the ocean waves creates a magical scene you’ll never forget. Overall, El Morro is an absolute must-see when visiting San Juan. It combines history, natural beauty, and fun in a way that perfectly captures the spirit of Puerto Rico. I left feeling inspired, grateful, and full of energy. Truly a 10/10 experience! 🇵🇷✨ #ElMorro #SanJuan #PuertoRico #OldSanJuan #TravelParadise #HistoricFort #CaribbeanAdventure #IslandVibes #UnforgettableViews #PuertoRicoMagic

From the moment you walk across the big green lawn toward the fort, you get why this place is on postcards and license plates. Inside, it’s a maze of ramps, tunnels, cannons, and lookout towers, all built to guard San Juan from attacks coming in by sea. You can wander through multiple levels, peek out from the garitas, and look back at the city framed by the Atlantic—every turn feels like a new photo angle. What I liked most: • Views for days – panoramic shots of the ocean, city walls, and Old San Juan. You could happily burn half your phone battery just on photos. • History you can feel – clear signage, restored spaces, and enough detail to keep history buffs happy without overwhelming casual visitors. • Space to slow down – you can explore at your own pace instead of being herded in a big tour group. Good to know: • There are lots of stairs, ramps, and uneven stone floors—wear real shoes, not flimsy sandals. • The sun and heat are no joke on the upper levels and open areas. Bring water, a hat, and sunscreen. • Your ticket/pass also covers the other major fort in Old San Juan, which makes it an even better value if you want to make a half-day of it. If you’re visiting Old San Juan and skip El Morro, you’re basically skipping the island’s headline chapter. It’s a must-do—whether you’re into history, photography, or just want to stand somewhere that makes you feel very small in the best way.
Don Z — Google review
This place is massive. If you attempt to walk the entire grounds definitely wear great walking shoes. Additionally you should have sunscreen, water, and snacks as this place took 4 hours to walk the entire property. Watch out for pickpockets as a member of our group was targeted. Overall even with the theft the whole place was a great adventure.

Such an incredible place to visit! A unique piece of OLD history right here in "the New World". A must-see in PR! The sites (the Castillo de San Felipe fort as well as Castillo San Cristobal) are well marked with interesting historical and educational information in Spanish and English. The National Park visitor center was informative. We happened to visit during the Government shutdown Oct. 2025 but the local government and good people of PR made sure to keep the site open to visitors and all of the staff that interacted with was so friendly and helpful. The sites are well kept, and visitors have many options of places to explore (tunnels, rooms, etc). There are clean bathroom facilities at each as well as drinking fountains, but it's still a good idea to bring a water bottle.

My opinion, it was an experience of a lifetime. Being of Puerto Rican decent, it was amazing to see and experience what it was like to be at the fortress. Reading about the fortress and seeing the artifacts was amazing. If in Puerto Rico, I recommend going. I'll be going again on my next trip there.

It's a beautiful fortress. It's sad to hear that so many soldiers died here, but the fort itself feels beautifully constructed, taking advantage of the natural beauty. The $10 admission fee feels a bit steep.

Puerta de San Juan, a large gate dating back to around 1635, served as the main entrance to the walled city during its Spanish colonial era. Located along Clara Lair Street, this pink-red exterior gate stands out amidst the surrounding brick buildings. An inscription in Latin that translates to 'Blessed is he that comes in name of the Lord' adorns the top of the door.
La Puerta de San Juan is a beautiful and historic landmark that feels like stepping back in time. Walking through the massive red gate, you can really imagine what it was like when ships once arrived here hundreds of years ago. The gate opens up to the charming cobblestone streets of Old San Juan, surrounded by colorful buildings, history, and culture everywhere you look. The area is very well preserved and makes for great photos, especially with the waterfront right beside it. It’s peaceful yet full of life, and visiting gives you a true sense of Puerto Rico’s history and Spanish colonial past. It’s one of those spots you can’t miss when exploring Old San Juan — simple, beautiful, and full of meaning.

Majestic view. Be prepared to walk, a lot and there's hills and stairs. The breeze from the ocean was a welcomed relief from the heat but it was hot! Ticket cost $10 which is good for touring both forts. Interesting historical location.

11/24/2025 Wonderful morning walk along the paseo. Not so many people and the weather is beautiful. No drinking water or bathroom. Bring an umbrella if mid day as very hot sunny here. You can walk to the back of El Morro. There are half walls and a bench to rest at the end of the path at El Morro. Leave a penny or pour some rum at the gate for Eleggua/ Papa Lega to keep the gate open and your path clear.

Tropical Taste Restaurant in Old San Juan is a must-visit for those craving authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. The restaurant offers amazing service and delicious food, with special attention to accommodating dietary restrictions like shellfish allergies. The menu features delectable dishes such as churrasco mofongo, a large sampler, and fried whole red snapper. The atmosphere is simple yet inviting, and the flavors of the food are rich and satisfying.
This is meal was definitely worth it. It was the first thing I ate when I got to Puerto Rico and I was extremely satisfied with it. It definitely eat there again. Based on the reviews, I decided to try a mojito as well and it VERY good as well. The only thing that bothered me was that it was actually so cold in there that I wanted to leave as soon as possible. AC + fans. Maybe it’s necessary in the hotter months ¿? I left the second I finished my food. The server was very attentive and kept the place very clean.

First time in Puerto Rico, my coworker recommended me this place, he was right, this was the best so far on my trip. I ordered the churrasco Mofongo, it was amazing, I’m a huge steak fan and this is the best, I was so hungry that I ate it all, the portion was huge and prices were cheap. I also ordered a Passionfruit Mojito that was delicious. My server was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend this place and hope to come back soon.

First time in Puerto Rico and found this place looking for mofongo. This place is a hidden gem and you owe it to yourself to check it out! Highly recommend them and I'll be back someday.

Here’s a strong, clear, but still professional negative review you can post: ⸻ ⭐ 1/5 — One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had I came here around 4 p.m., and the restaurant was completely empty — which should have been my first sign. Despite the entire place being open, the server seated us directly under a fan that was blowing so strongly I was freezing. I moved myself to another table (again, the place was empty), but that chair was broken. When I tried to switch to any of the MANY available tables, the server rushed over telling us we had to sit on a specific side of the restaurant for no apparent reason. It already felt unwelcoming and strange. The food was even worse. We ordered mofongo with pork, and the pork was extremely salty, dry, and honestly barely edible. Everything we tried was overwhelmingly salty and just poorly prepared. For the price, it was incredibly disappointing. To make it worse, even though we were the only customers, the server avoided giving us the check — literally drying silverware at the counter while we sat there waiting. It felt like he was intentionally stalling. Overall, this was a frustrating, uncomfortable, and genuinely bad experience from start to finish. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are so many better options nearby — save your time and money.

Went here after we docked at Old San Juan because we were looking for good local Mofongo. I was not expecting to find the holy grail of drinks. Emmanuel was our server and the maker of the Coffee Coquito on this particular day. It was by far the best Coquito I've ever had. My Madrina es Puerto Rican and that Coquito is way better than hers and any other of my family friends. If I can convince you to come here and get one single thing on the menu it would be that drink. Emmanuel was awesome and attentive, and I would buy more drinks when I come back

French restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Old San Juan, Trois Cent Onze is an intimate and upscale French restaurant that offers a sophisticated dining experience. The restaurant boasts an elegant decor, excellent service, and a superb wine list. With its colorful Moorish-Andalucian gateway entrance, the dining room exudes sophistication and intimacy. Chef Carlos Guzman Tavarez's delicate and flavorful classic French cuisine is complemented by a well-stocked wine cellar.
We came to celebrate my wife's and my daughter's birthdays. This restaurant requires reservations. The food was excellent. The menu gives you enough choices. The wine was good as well. The service was straight and courteous. The restaurant's atmosphere is casual but sophisticated and welcoming. Every dish was done with expertise and attention to detail. It was a great experience and I would come back without hesitation. Highly recommended if you are visiting San Juan.

This was wonderful French food. We were visiting old San Juan and celebrating our birthdays and this was the perfect dinner. We had amazing service and the food was top notch. We had escargot, the duck breast, and beef tenderloin. All delicious, and then had crème brûlée and poached pears for dessert. The ambiance was great, it was a slow night so we had the restaurant all to ourselves. Thank you for a wonderful night!

Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. From the service to the atmosphere to the food it was excellent. Delicious meal. Every course was really good. Started with escargot and beef tartar. I could have eaten 5 serving of escargot it was so good. The tartar was pretty good but my partner ordered it, it's not really something I'm interested in. I enjoyed it but wouldn't order it again. I had the filet mignon and it was impeccable. Cooked to perfection, plated in a delightful sauce. Our daughters split the chicken dish "Cow au Vin" it was very good, they were happy with it. We shared two desserts that were both very good. I really enjoyed our meal there and would do it again and order the same thing

Quiet, very pleasant, welcoming ambiance that allows you to enjoy the restaurant and the food. Great wait staff. Never felt rushed at any time during the meal and actually, my husband for the first 20-30 minutes was out of the restaurant trying to locate our Uber driver because he had left his phone in the car. The wine was outstanding, and they had a fantastic selection. We drank a bottle of 2015 Chateau Bel Air Gloria with our meal that was delicious. Hubby and I split the terrine of the day that was yummy. Two entrees, Roasted breast of duck cooked medium rare and beef filet. both were outstanding. The chocolate mousse served in pastry lightly sugared and fried was out of this world. We would definitely go again as it rivaled some of the best food we have had in other major city. Gracias!

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like The Mall of San Juan. Not quite as popular as Castillo San Felipe del Morro, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

Shopping
The Mall of San Juan is a modern, well-lit indoor shopping center that boasts an array of upscale brands and dining options across two floors. Since its opening in 2015, it has become one of the most impressive luxury retail destinations on the island, featuring renowned names like Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, and more.
Great place to spend some time if you have a long layover in San Juan. They also offer free luggage storage at the welcome desk which was a great perk. We were able to drop 9ff multiple bags so we could shop and eat easily.

This was a very nice 2 story mall. There are a few restaurants here if you want to eat because there is no food court to my surprise. They also have a large pickles all inside the mall where you can play and compete. Large area in the middle of mall with Starbucks and charging station for phone and laptops.

This mall is not as good as others in Puerto Rico. All they have is high end stores and no food court. The mall is great and has a lot of shops, cool AC and even lots of fee speaking and plenty of restrooms.
TravelingCid — Google review
Great upscale mall! Lots of luxury stores to choose from. They even have a Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in there! That alone should make you want to go there!!!
Shinean — Google review
I love the mall’s cleanliness, the way everything is always functional - no “out of use” signs - and how diverse events take place in it. From children’s events and haunted houses to races: it is an entertainment hub of excellence.
TALO H — Google review
It's a very calming experience. Very fancy and clean. Great selection of stores and products. There's even a new beauty supply! This is very nice. The only problem is that food court can be a bit messy. Other than that, it's lovely.
Lara S — Google review
I love this mall. It has everything and more! I love the service centers in there like Tesla very convenient.
Lily A — Google review
I was a little disappointed in this mall. It was kind of small for a mall. They didn't have enough stores, and they didn't even have a food court. Wow! The worst part about this mall was trying to figure out the parking. It's not easy to find the parking areas. There isn't any signage directing you where to go.

Outdoor Activities
Playa Ocean Park, also known as Ocean Park Beach, is a popular destination in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Unlike other tourist spots, this beach offers a chance to interact with the locals on equal footing. It's located in an upscale neighborhood and is home to some of the city's cooler hotels. The area is beloved by locals and offers various water sports and physical activities such as volleyball, soccer, jet skiing, and windsurfing.
Decided to go nearer sunset times. The beach is very clean with no hawkers and no pushy sellers. Lively game of volleyball and maybe foot volley or handball. Some folks had music and was enjoying salsa dancing. Could tell by the waves that the current world be rough.

This beach is perfect! Relax, distress, exercise (park), take long walks or watch dance classes that happen about 5 pm; pretty much do anything. Also, as a plus your paw friends are also welcome! ❤️🐶.

Pristine blue waters.. soft sand.. fewer crowds.. located 2 blocks from our place of stay.. taking a quick stroll on the shore has become a thing in our 4 night stay in Puerto Rico!!

Nice beach where a lot of the locals go to. It’s clean , lots of parking , small amount of vendors but no one walking. Around trying to always sell you something. Pro tip- BEWARE -the beach has parts with lots of rocks on the shore and has deep drops from the shore line. Potential to get cut if you’re not careful is high.

This beach is very beautiful and the waters were quite calm and warm whenever I’ve gone. One day I saw a baby shark in the water which was super cool! The water is extremely clear which makes it easy to spot things like that. I like that people seem to hang out in the evenings too. It’s a nice little vibe here

Museums
Education center
The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is a prestigious art museum located in the vibrant Santurce neighborhood of San Juan. Housed in a neoclassical former hospital, the museum boasts a 130,000-sq-ft space filled with over 1000 works of art, including pieces by renowned Puerto Rican artists like Francisco Oller and Rafael Tufino. The museum's 24 exhibition galleries showcase a diverse collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photographs.
I'm so glad we visited here. It was so peaceful and relaxing. We really enjoyed wandering around and visiting all the exhibits. I definitely recommend getting the upgraded tickets because we had access to all 4 floors. The gardens are lovely as well. Definitely add this to your trip to San Juan.

Important cultural institution. It has one of the most incredible gardens I have ever seen and an exceptional art collection that narrates you through the amazing history of Puerto Rican artists. It goes without saying that this is a must while visiting San Juan.

My husband and I spent a little over 2 and half hours. The different exhibits to see and information on them written in Spanish and English. If you pay the extra $3 you can see the special exhibits they also have going on. Plus, they have the beautiful botinical garden in the back of the building with a great walking path to see everything. They also have sculptures too.

There were a lot of people in line for the Bad Bunny exhibition but we only visited the museum itself and there was no wait. The museum was amazing. It made me and friend learned so much about Puerto Rican history and culture. I recommend spending 1.5 hour+ there to really get a close look into the stories behind the artworks. As Taiwanese, we resonated so much with the history of Puerto Rico as both countries had gone through so much due to colonization yet preserved our cultures through resilience and pride❤️

What a wonderful place to learn about Puerto Rican art and history. Staff are super friendly and knowledgable (especially Jose who was incredible!) and you can spend hours there exploring and learning. And don’t forget the beautiful garden!

Diana's Pizza is a beloved spot in PR, known for its well-cooked food that feels like a home-cooked meal. While not specializing in pizza, their ham, egg and cheese on hero and bacon and egg sandwich are highly recommended. The cozy atmosphere makes it feel more like a small diner than a pizzeria. Visitors appreciate the friendly staff and the opportunity to mingle with locals over delicious drinks.
I can't help but support small local businesses, and when they have awesome prices, I will be their biggest cheerleader. This is a hidden gem in the Condado area. The cheapest beer in the area and service is exceptional.

This is a 24hr restaurant that serves entrees, pizza, sandwiches and more. I had the skirt steak with rice-n-beans. Wow. Fab flavors that I won’t forget. I’ll be back.
Sree S — Google review
Great local food. Very "divey" but super tasty food. Below I have the mofongo con Pollo, churrasco and salmon filet. Make sure not to go to late aka after 7/8 pm because then it becomes a very popular drinking bar.
Jessica S — Google review
Absolutely love this place. I come here every time I visit PR and they are always the same - great well cooked food, it’s like eating home! Ham, egg and cheese on hero is amazing, BLT amazing, bacon and egg sandwich was delish! The coffee is the best! You truly won't regret it! It’s like a small diner I wouldn’t call it a pizzeria - pizza is not their specialty. They cook cook, but they don’t make fresh pizza like a brick oven pizzeria. It’s not at all fancy more comfy, neighborhood-ish and you’ll get great food.

The waiter was so nice and there when I needed her and the flood was good. Unfortunately the floor was sticky. And the place didn't feel inviting. Btw I was with my kids and we had a large cheese Pizza. They had soda and I had to beers. $23

When I visited PR, I stopped here everyday for the Coldest cerveza in the area. ICE COLD! Great sandwiches and pizza too. Easy to get to know the regulars. My favorite spot to sit and have a drink.
Tobin D — Google review
This is not a pizza place. It's a dive bar that also happens to sell pizza. It's kind of a rip off for the pizza. It's like Red Baron or some grocery store pizza. Any other pizza is way better and cheaper. Little Caesars, Dominos, Pizza Hut, etc.
Calvin N — Google review
This was my spot, every night I came while I was in PR. Food is delicious, drinks were yummy. All the staff and owners were friendly and made me feel welcome. Mexican restaurant
Family restaurant
Acapulco Taquería Mexicana is a casual eatery with an open kitchen where you can watch the preparation of their signature al pastor pork. The restaurant prides itself on serving authentic Mexican cuisine, eschewing Tex-Mex fare in favor of dishes like al pastor and lengua tacos, cochinita sopes, and more. Despite its unassuming location behind a pawn shop, this spot is known for some of the best Mexican food in Puerto Rico.
Wow, everything is very tasty and delicious, from drink to tacos and bowls to desserts. My favorite food was Quesabirria, it’s somehow like a large taco that comes with shredded beef which is perfectly marinated and cooked, it is absolutely one the best food I’ve ever had; it was so delicious that I came back again 2 days later. Staff are really friendly and the environment is pleasant too. I loved everything about this restaurant.

The food was simple yet amazing. Each bite was delicious. Every taco ordered was a hit. Drinks were so refreshing and tasty. I truly recomend this little spot with great and quick service. The only hicup is parking, and the fact that it being a small establishment you might have to wait a few to be seated. But if you dondecide to go you will not regret the experience.
Christopher M — Google review
I found a hidden Taco shop in Loiza. I ordered 6 different Tacos. What amazed me most was the combination of the aroma of Al pastor's barbecue and the fruity aroma of pineapple, which made me want to eat another one. The chicken is also good, and the pickled onions on the Canita play a role like relie in greasy. Personally, I don't like Elote and Guacamole very much. It would be better if Taco could add some more onions and cilantro.

Cute little taqueria spot with affordable prices. The rib eye tacos were amazing and fresh. The waitresses are attentive. I will definitely go back.

Great taco place. Great service . Great coctails. And most important dog friendly! We had a delicious lunch and we will definitely come back. One star down because the churro machine broke, and we weren't able to have desserts.
Stacey M — Google review
The food in this place is outstanding. It is one of the best places to eat tacos in the area. The Guacamole was very tasty. Margaritas were good but pricey, they didn't even serve it in the traditional margarita glass. The place got 2 floors, the second tends to be more crowded. Service was average, luckily we didn’t see the girl with red hair of the previous bad reviews. Parking on street, credit cards accepted.

Amazing Dining Experience! This was by far one the best dining experiences I've ever had. The service was super. The staff was excellent, and the food was incredible! This place is on the beach and has a great view! Our staff attendant was Diego. He was super attentive and detailed!

Best food in Condado (and we tried many restaurants in the area) We went here twice and every single dish was excellent. We are vegetarian and loved the corn and pumpkin soups, the salad, the main veggie dish, and even a side of rice and beans. So good! The restaurant has three distinct floors, two of them outdoor with a beautiful breeze and oceanfront view. The staff were incredibly nice and kid friendly.

Oh. My. God. The food was amazing, everything we had. The seafood ceviche, the duck mofongo, the fish the drinks, I cannot express how much you will be sorry if you miss it. I suggest a reservation, the food is good and everyone knows. There is also amazing beach front seating on the patios! I would suggest this as a date restaurant, families go but I would not take kids. Its a very sexy place and the bar was amazing! Great, just great everything.

This place is a must if you are visiting San Juan! I want to say that the food was great but the service was AMAZING!! The staff were very attentive and professional. We ordered the calamari and ropa vieja for appetizers which were quickly bought out, they were tasteful and great portions. For entrees we both ordered the surf and turf which was the best steak and lobster I ever had, the lobster was fresh and steak cooked perfectly to my liking. Overall the experience was 5 stars, the cherry on top was the spectacular view.
Raquel M — Google review
The view is amazing. I think the food was fine, even good. It was just not as good as I expected. The drinks were over priced and small. And I thought that the plastic furniture was a miss. Don’t get me wrong, I still have it 4 stars. I just was not as impressed as my friends thought I would be. Staff - very friendly Space - plenty of room for a family Prices - on the high side Atmosphere - the view!

Featured Amanda · married on 01/24/2020 Juan Carlos is professional while personal and the food and view are perfect! Planning a 40-50 person wedding in San Juan is not easy if you're on a budget, but Oceano fit all of our needs. We started out looking at the hotels but felt the minium consumption was over the top for what you get. Oceano offered a spectacular view, privacy, and amazing food at a fair price. Negotiations and changes to our contract were all handled by Juan Carlos with the utmost professionalism. We were blown away by the tasting and on the wedding day, our guests raved about the food. The bartenders were on point with fast personal service. We had the pork carving station at our cocktail hour on the 3rd floor and the guests seriously would not stop talking about how delicious the pasta was. My husband's 85-year-old Abuela said the pork was on point, and she's a tough critic! With our 39 guests, Oceano's 2nd floor provided plenty of room for dancing and partying and we were not disturbed by any patrons and music volume was never an issue. Even if we'd had all our 50 guests RSVP I don't think it would have been too tight. The DJ was able to have music on both the 2nd and 3rd floors simultaneously. Do yourself a favor and have the white glove service! The staff at Oceano were so professional, none of my guests realized it was a buffet. The service was phenomenal. No guests waiting in lines or fumbling and spilling dinner on their dresses! Thank you so much Juan Carlos! We really had the best night ever dancing and partying all night with our family!

We were able to get an amazing ocean front table for two around 9pm, same day at Oceano. we were waited on my Gabrielle who was accommodating and thoughtful. The food was served warm (not very hot). The flavors were good. The appetizer was excellent. We mentioned to Gabrielle that we were celebrating a special occasion, she made it a wonderful evening with sparkling wine and dessert too.

I have been to the Mercado years ago but it just continues to get better and better. The Mercado is full of local vendors selling a variety of different items. All of which were warm and welcoming. The cafeteria has gotten a full facelift with new art work and design. I plan to return to the Mercado again on my next visit. It is definitely worth the trip.

Good place for fruits and local food spots … pricing for food is good , sorullos 1.25 at Kathy’s cafe are the best . I wish the prices on fruits were better… unfortunately most charge about the same $$$ I pay for them in NJ, so I was disappointed, but I enjoyed the papaya ($1.50 to 2 a lb) and mangos ($2.00 to 2.50 LB … but can also try “ Pueblo” supermarket had similar prices or sometimes on sale found mangos “0.89”

Begin your exploration of Old San Juan at the impressive Castillo San Cristóbal, a heavily fortified citadel constructed between 1765 and 1785. This historic fort, which is the largest among the Spanish-built forts in the Americas, played a significant role in Puerto Rico's history. It offers panoramic views of the coastline, Condado, and Old San Juan.
It's a place where you can learn about history and enjoy stunning views. The admission fee is $10, but since my husband is in the military, we were able to enter for free. The weather can be unpredictable, so I recommend bringing a raincoat.

We really did enjoy visiting this location and the tour of the facility. This excursion was part of our cruise visit to San Juan, and we are glad that we selected the fort for our activity during the trip. The fort's historical and paranormal aspects motivated us to include it on our list of places to visit, and we are pleased to have checked it off our bucket list. Highly recommended if you find yourself in the San Juan area.

This place is breathtaking. The views are stunning. Definitely a must visit in PR. It’s within the beautiful Old San Juan so a lot to see around. Their gift shop is really nice and has interesting books about Taino culture, Puerto Rico, and US Parks. You can get your park passport stamp here as well.

So I was here in port on the Carnival Venezia 11/4/25. We had a rainforest tour , San Cristobal Castle tour and Old San Juan Walking Tour from 7am to 3pm. It was a pretty good deal. We only had 45 minutes in the castle and we needed about three hours to see the whole thing. It was built in 1634 and it took 150 years to build . If you are here , it’s a must see !! With your pass , you also get access to the castle down the road (1mile) because it is all owed and run by the federal government (USA) as a national historic site . Please go , you won’t be disappointed !!

A Truly Amazing and Historic Experience! Visiting Castillo San Cristóbal in San Juan, Puerto Rico, was an incredible, fun, and deeply memorable experience. This massive fortress, built by the Spanish to protect the city from attacks, is one of the most impressive historical sites on the island. Walking through its tunnels, climbing its walls, and looking out over the ocean and Old San Juan feels like stepping back in time. The fort is beautifully preserved, and every corner tells a story. You can explore underground passages, dungeons, and lookout towers that once defended the city. The views are absolutely breathtaking — from the top, you can see El Morro, the blue ocean stretching endlessly, and the colorful houses of Old San Juan. It’s open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and I recommend arriving early to enjoy the peaceful morning breeze and take amazing photos before it gets crowded. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to explain the fascinating history behind each section of the fort. What I loved most was the mix of history, architecture, and nature. The sound of the waves crashing against the walls, the salty air, and the warmth of the sun make this place truly special. Whether you’re a history lover, a photographer, or simply someone who enjoys beautiful places, Castillo San Cristóbal is a must-visit! I left with a deep appreciation for Puerto Rico’s rich culture and resilience. A divine experience from start to finish — highly recommended! 🇵🇷💙 #CastilloSanCristobal #SanJuan #PuertoRico #OldSanJuan #HistoricFort #TravelParadise #PuertoRicoMagic #IslandVibes #CaribbeanAdventure #UnforgettableViews

$10 for adults. Free for those under 15. Definitely worth checking out. Expect to walk a lot. Nice bathrooms. Bring bottled water and snacks. Credit card only! Yes AMEX accepted. But no cash ... Side note, pay for entry here, and you also get in free to the other castle that's about 15 min walk away. Great idea to come here, and expect to stay two hours in my opinion. Would love to have done a guided tour but did a self tour.

A Must-See Piece of Puerto Rican History! Visiting San Cristóbal Castle was one of the highlights of my trip to Old San Juan. The views alone are worth the visit—panoramic sights of the Atlantic Ocean and the colorful city below. You can really feel the history walking through the tunnels, dungeons, and massive stone walls. The fortress is incredibly well-preserved, and the info plaques throughout make it easy to understand how it was used to defend the island. I recommend going early in the day to beat the heat and crowds. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water—it’s a lot of walking, but so worth it. Whether you're into history, photography, or just taking in some of the best views on the island, San Cristóbal is a must-visit in Puerto Rico.

Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
Marmalade is a stylish restaurant in San Juan known for its international menu and creative dishes. Chef Peter Schintler has crafted an ingredient-driven menu that combines local flavors with global influences, featuring dishes like ceviche paired with tostones and vegan poblanos rellenos atop spicy black beans and mole. The restaurant offers tasting menus ranging from five to 14 courses, with the option of a plant-based menu.
We were on our honeymoon and decided to splurge. So glad we did! Best meal of my life! First off the service was impeccable. They truly made you feel like a king. They knew it was a honeymoon dinner and brought us champagne and even a signed poster at the end with well wishes on it! The head chef and owner tries to make his rounds and talk to every table and tell you a little bit about the food. We did the tasting menu with the wine pairing. My favorite course was the famous white bean soup. My least favorite was the lamb meatballs, but they were still good. Every course was extremely flavorful and the perfect amount of food and wine. Worth every cent.

From the moment you walk in, the passion of the staff is unmistakable. Service is warm, attentive, and genuinely rooted in a love for food. The menu is both creative and thoughtful, showcasing ingredients sourced from local producers wherever possible. Every dish feels like a celebration of flavor and craft, executed with pride and precision. A phenomenal dining experience that blends hospitality, innovation, and a true sense of place.

Incredible time as had been our previous visit. Service was excellent, the entire staff clearly works as a team to deliver an impecable experience every step of the way. The food was all outstanding and our server gave excellent suggestions. Everyone acknowledged that we were repeat guests and they also brought out a small appetizer on the house as our reservation from the previous evening had to be rescheduled as they didn’t have water due to no fault of their own. We dined here last year when we came to Puerto Rico and this was probably the thing we were looking forward to the most on our return visit this year. The fluke crudo was definitely one of the best things that I’ve ever eaten in my life and both me and my girlfriend are big foodies. Amazing restaurant in every aspect possible, definitely recommend and will be back. Thank you!

Our 27th wedding anniversary in Puerto Rico was unforgettable — my husband completely surprised me with dinner at Marmalade! From the moment we walked in, we were treated like the only guests in the restaurant. The table was beautifully set with flower petals, and every dish that came out was a masterpiece. My husband did the wine pairing, and each time a new glass arrived, our amazing server, Anna, explained its origin and why it paired perfectly with the course. She was warm, attentive, and so knowledgeable — truly the best of the best. Even though she had other tables, she made us feel like we were her only focus. It was one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve ever had — the perfect way to celebrate 27 years together. Thank you to the entire staff at Marmalade, truly top class!

This is an amazing fine dining experience. Took my wife for her bday. This is truly an amazing place with amazing food, servers and Chef de Rang. The white bean soup it’s so tasty and delicious, they actually have already printed copies of the recipe available to the guests. We felt welcome and each plate and wines were explained to us. I had mistakenly consumed the garnished Fresno pepper and the Chef de Rang move quickly to get a fresh antidote 😂 of cold sweet wine to calm the spiciness and it worked perfectly. A 5 course meal for a party of two could range anywhere from $450 and up.

We’ve had beautiful meals all over the world with celebrated and Michelin chefs. This was the best meal we’ve ever had. EVER A few hours before our arrival I had a friendly call to check on preferences, allergies and restrictions. But this phone call felt different - it was casual but professional, welcoming, funny, and warm. We like to make early reservations so we can watch the energy change as guests fill the space. I recommend it just to visit with the knowledgeable and interesting front of house. Upon entry you’re surrounded with subtle elegance and, as you observe, more and more the elegance grows. While walking to our table I was handed a pashmina - but didn’t need it because the temperature of the dining room was perfect. A simple but much appreciated touch. The purse tables were also stunning and artfully crafted. I mentioned that we were celebrating a wedding anniversary. Each member of the team sincerely wished us happy anniversary as we walked in and all evening. The service is top-notch. Attentive without being overbearing. Each team member knew the menu and how to recommend dishes. The pre-fixe menu is a masterclass in culinary creativity. Every dish is beautifully presented with a sleight of hand table reset at each passing. Again, attention to every tiny detail is priority. Takes a long time to get to this… the cocktails are inventive, complex yet whimsical. And finally getting to the food… wow. Just wow. The flavors exploded on the palate. It’s evident that each course is crafted with care, using the freshest ingredients with unique flavors that work so well together you wonder why you haven’t seen it before. Every bite felt both familiar and exotic at the same time. This food brought my tastebuds into focus - couture for the mouth. We were both rendered speechless multiple times. From start to finish, the entire meal is a journey. Couldn’t possibly pick a favorite course. We were in a lovely corner booth with a giant pile of pillows. Near the final course I understood the need for the pillows as we were left in a state of bliss. I threw myself into them and took some deep breaths. Marmalade isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just treating yourself to an exceptional night out, this is a place where the food and service will exceed your expectations. Highly recommend come hungry and ready to be treated to exceptional service.

The four of us, who are definite “foodies” dined here and we were blown away by the fabulous food and service! We are all in our 60’s and have eaten all over the world and travel to food destinations- each of us stated that it was the finest dining experience that we’d ever had! Not only was the food different, modern and amazing- the service was impeccable and was worth every penny! In the end our bill with wine was $200+/person.

Very amazing meal, we just kind of wondered in and asked if they had availability for two. They were able to see us at a high table at the service with some of the best I’ve experienced that have many restaurants, our server really did a great job of explaining the menu and making recommendations they checked and us. The right amount of time is to make us feel wanted and cared for, but not enough to make us feel like they were being pushy. When things would happen like I would run out of water, they would refill the water at a reasonable pace and when I made a request to the server, he was very quick to get it done. I like the fact that it’s a fixed price menu, and it was kind of fun to be able to choose my own meal and it wasn’t just a set menu, also I like the fact that even though it’s fine dining beers are only eight dollars.

We booked a two hour walking tour of Old San Juan and it was one of the best experiences we’ve had! Pablo, our guide, was amazing and you can feel his passion for the rich history of the area. He was engaging, enthusiastic and it was a great time for us.

This tour is a MUST! When you are in Puerto Rico. We had Gwen as our guide and she was amazing. Loved her vibe and the love of her country in culture. When I go back to PR I’ll be booking this tour along with the other tours they have to offer! The food was TOP TIER. The coffee main cuisine and desserts. Chefs kiss.

Carola was a great tour guide! I had an absolutely incredible experience on this food tour! Every stop was carefully curated, offering a perfect mix of local flavors, cultural insights, and hidden gems I never would’ve found on my own. Our guide was fantastic—knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the local food scene. They made the whole group feel welcome and kept the energy upbeat throughout the tour. I also loved how well-paced the experience was; we had plenty of time to enjoy each stop without ever feeling rushed. I learned so much of the culture history of Puerto Rico through this tour and would definitely recommend it again. We even made our own mofongo

This was easily our favorite food tour. It was extremely well organized. Our tour guide, Alberto was phenomenal from his amazing personality to his extensive knowledge of San Juan and Puerto Rico. The walking tour was just the right length, strolling through the beautiful streets of San Juan. The food was the best part - every stop was more delicious than the last. Highly recommend this tour, you will absolutely love it.
Susan B — Google review
We had less time at San Juan than the other ports from our cruise, but this one by far was the best one, a lot of it having to do with this particular tour. Our guides, Danny and Diego (D&D), were absolutely amazing! The landscapes are beautiful, and each food stop is top tier. You may not even find these gems without knowing the area or going on this tour. My only warning is for those with mobility or other medical issues. It's all walking with hills and uneven walkways, which can be a bit strenuous for those with difficulty walking, asthma, etc. The first stop was a little café where we tried a Puerto Rican take on a ham and cheese croissant with a delicious jam in the center. Followed by a beautiful shot of espresso and cream. This was a great place to start off the tour because it definitely piqued my taste buds. The second stop was actually the historical aspect where we sat in a little park that overlooked a nice view of the water and some land across the way. There, we were taken on a little trip into the past that led up to where Puerto Rico currently is now. Our guides were very knowledgeable and knew how to keep everyone's attention. Plus, being accommodating and making sure to attend to every person on the group. Their personal connections helped immensely in understanding a lot of the architecture, history, social and economic climates, and more. Something you may not get with another generic tour. The next food stop was at a very cozy restaurant where we made our very own mofongo. It was fun to do and tasted amazing! I was disappointed we couldn't take the leftovers back on the ship, but that wasn't on the tour group's fault. They even wished we could taste the mofongo on the 2nd day because the flavors melt into each other. To pair with the mofongo, we had a refreshing frozen piña colada. Apparently, there are two types, which I didn't know before going on the tour. Lastly, we headed back to the little park with the benches and wrapped up with a cooling passion fruit popsicle. It was a great way to end the tour and finish up a hot day in Puerto Rico. If you ever find yourself in Puerto Rico, these guides know where you can go for good food, refreshing drinks, and tasty desserts!

Worth it! GWEN was our tour guide. Catch Gwen she’ll show you some views and fun time. We went to some excellent places here to learn the history of the culture, people, and food we ate in relations to other nations and eras. The FOOD was great throughout. Wont spoil too much here or in the photos. - 1st you have you energy booster with a guava appetizer at a coffee shop. - then naturally refreshing ice overlooking the ocean and discussed military tactics of the previous imperialists - we had frutera appetizers at SAMS (my fave), -we made mufongo; - 5th after passing the crocheted street the 5th and final stop was an amazing dessert at a local moon shop.

Catedral Basilica Menor de San Juan Bautista, the second oldest cathedral in the Americas, is a 1540 landmark that houses the tomb of city founder Ponce de León. The Gothic-style cathedral can be accessed through the San Juan Gate and features beautiful stained glass windows, domes, and ceiling architecture. It offers a serene atmosphere for quiet contemplation or prayer.
The oldest cathedral in the United States! Such a beautiful historic site. The stained glass and the statues are incredible to admire. The cathedral itself is peaceful, a nice change from the rest of busy Old San Juan. Also, it is free to enter although donations are encouraged.

Catedral de San Juan Bautista is a must-see while in Old San Juan. The tranquill atmosphere and stunning architecture are captivating. It's a serene place to both admire the beautiful stained glass windows and feel the weight of its long history, particularly when visiting the tomb of Juan Ponce de León. The cathedral is an active place of worship but is very welcoming to visitors, making it a perfect, quick stop during a walk through the city.

Great, great, GREAT service. Recommended every dish we had, and we were not disappointed. From the Goat Cheese and Crab cake appetizers to the Monk Fish Entrée, we couldn't have asked for much more. Absolutely give them a try and let the staff suggest some food options. You will not be disappointed!

We found this place accidentally, but what a find it was! Both our lamb and chicken couscous and the eggplant cod filet were amazing. I mean one of the best foods we’ve had so far. And the service was amazing. Highly recommend 10/10.

A local hangout. Owner is French. The food was delicious and our bartender was extremely personable and gracious. The city lost water and we happened to stumble into the place looking for lunch. What a find!!

Homey lil bistro with great bites, good service, and well made drinks. Mussels were the star of the orders we made, but the baked goat cheese was a close second. Feel like all the appetizers and mains were spot on and I would have ordered more and skipped out on the desert here which wasn't on the same level of quality. Not docking a star for that though because the rest was so good

Spiga is a charming cafe located in San Juan's Ciudadela neighborhood, known for its warm and inviting atmosphere. The cafe offers a delectable selection of freshly baked pastries, including chocolate-laced babka buns and cinnamon and cardamom swirls. In addition to their exceptional baked goods, Spiga also serves savory breakfast options and sandwiches made with their fresh sourdough bread.
Good reviews on Maps brought me here after walking around Old San Juan all day. Was pretty hungry when I got here and scored a seat inside pretty quickly. It's a small place, so that was lucky. The fresh pasta was delicious!!! People seemed to really enjoy the pastries as well. There's also a cute little dog that must belong to the staff. He wanders around the restaurant and may come right up to your table and beg for food. 🤭 I would recommend visiting.
IKON L — Google review
This place was so cute and the food was delicious! Definitely not a lot of indoor seating, but the coffee was strong and the sandwiches and salads were amazing. Would definitely go back on our next visit!

We are so pleased we found Spiga for our wedding! We ordered an assortment of their fresh bread and pastries to have on the dinner tables for our guests to snack on, and it was such a perfect touch. They even made fresh rosemary butter that paired beautifully with the bread—it was absolutely delicious. Spiga was so friendly, quick to respond, and made the entire process easy. The bread and pastries were unbelievably fresh and flavorful—our guests couldn’t stop raving about them! Even though I didn’t get many photos, (you can see it staying fresh under the white cloth on the dinner tables) I’ll never forget how amazing everything looked and tasted. I highly recommend providing guests with fresh bread and butter at your wedding—it was such a thoughtful, memorable detail that everyone loved. Thank you, Spiga, for making our day even more special!

Super cute hole in the wall breakfast/coffee joint. The coffee was super good and I loved that if you’re eating in they come to your table to take your order and they have anyone who is taking anything to go wait in line. We ordered the almond bun and chocolate bun and they were to die for. We also got a ham and cheese breakfast sandwich as well as the stratta and it was amazing. The stratta was so yummy. Would definitely come back

This is an incredibly charming SMALL establishment for breakfast and lunch. The pastries were next level, and the coffee was delicious. The staff is lovely and helpful as well.

Pio Pio is a delightful surprise in old San Juan, offering an amazing dining experience with outstanding food and spectacular service. Guests can enjoy unique dishes packed with flavor and depth that are beautifully plated. The wine selection offers a pleasant surprise as well.
One of the best culinary experiences of my life. Chef Ciarán is a magician and every person that works there is just incredible! Do not miss the opportunity to go to this magnificent culinary gem! 1st course : lobster roll, homemade brioche with caviar and a tart with cream, cured egg, and truffle. 2nd: tuna crudo 3rd: house made sourdough, whipped ricotta with olive oil, prosciutto, and candied walnuts 4th: pasta with conch and spicy tomato sauce with fresh Parmesan 5th: porchetta with black beans 6th: pineapple upside down cake and coconut trifle with mango 7th: chocolate and hazelnut ice cream sandwich

We made a reservation for the Playlist Chef’s Table experience and WOW—-it was amazing. We were seated at the bar and right from the first moment we felt like we were a part of the back of the house team! The food was amazing—watching the chefs prepare the food with such love and care was a sight to see! We also got the wine pairings with each course. All were amazing and the wine service was great, too. Highly recommend this dining experience!

Pio Pio is a very cute coursed hole in the wall restaurant in the middle of Old San Juan. The chef is a cute Irish gentleman with a terrific Puerto Rican inspired menu. Highly recommend the Con Coco cocktail, which is basically an old fashion with coconut flavoring. The meal started with a cream tart, lobster roll, and a crudo. I especially liked the creaminess of the lobster roll. Following that was a swordfish tortellini — I’ve not had a fish tortellini before and I was pleasantly surprised at the texture and flavor! Easily my favorite with at the restaurant. It was magical to see the staff make the tortellinis in front of us. We liked the lamb and dessert as well. But the real star after the tortellini was the Irish coffee with an ice cream sandwich. Beautifully sweet but not overpoweringly so. Great vibe and a family feeling amongst the staff, they definitely are passionate about what they do! Do note that the meal will get into the $300s for two, so if that’s not your cup of tea then be warned.

This is one of the top 5 meals of my life! Such an intimate setting, you get to talk to the chef’s and watch them create the amazing cuisines. I would highly recommend the tasting menu. On top of the food, had the best champagne and white wine I have ever had. As not a huge wine person I would have finished both bottles if I want so full from all the amazing food.
Thomas Y — Google review
I ordered the tasting menu expecting individual servings, but what we received were shared plates for two people something that was never explained to us when ordering. While that lack of communication threw us off, I have to say the food itself was amazing. The pasta was absolutely delicious, and the lamb was incredibly tasty. Despite the confusion, I’m happy to give them a second try.

Pio Pio completely turned our night around after a disappointing experience at a restaurant nearby! The food was absolutely top notch. There were multiple times when we stopped to note that we had never tasted anything like the dishes we had at Pio Pio. The drinks were excellent too. The cocktail list was very unique and creative. Lots of interesting clarified cocktails. The drinks themselves were so good we ended up getting multiple rounds. We could tell that the owners and staff cared a lot about what they were doing, and this shined through our every experience there. Pio Pio made me want to move to San Juan permanently. 10/10, A+, 🔥
Joey G — Google review
Walked in and got a table for two without a reservation. Ordered the Con Coco which was strong but delicious. Also ordered the lobsters rolls, eggplant which was surprisingly yummy and the pasta with meatballs. Staff was super friendly. Was a bit on the pricey side but worth it!
Will C — Google review
This was a really fun tasting experience - creative big swings that all landed with us. The wine paring was pretty good too, call it an A-. We're glad we did it even if it wasn't life changing. And I hope everyone gets to try the "Puerto Rican Moonshine" (Pitorro?) at the end - definitely a special finish! My only very minor critique is that they do the check via POS terminal brought to your table while they wait. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but it just feels a little fast casual for an otherwise higher end dining experience.

Caficultura, located in the heart of Old San Juan, is a charming cafe known for its trendy and popular all-day breakfast and brunch menu. The cafe offers a variety of delicious gourmet sandwiches, hearty dishes, and numerous vegetarian options. The building itself is beautifully restored with distressed concrete walls meeting an old Spanish-style wood-beamed ceiling adorned with a magnificent antique chandelier. Visitors can enjoy farm-to-table food and delightful coffee drinks made from beans sourced directly from Puerto Rican farms.
Caficutura in San Juan is a true gem for brunch lovers. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm, charismatic service that immediately sets the tone for a relaxing and authentic Puerto Rican experience. The food was absolutely wonderful, rich in traditional flavors and presented beautifully, making it as much a feast for the eyes as it was for the palate. The attention to detail in both service and presentation shows real pride in their craft. If you’re in San Juan and looking for a vibrant, welcoming brunch spot, Caficultura is a must-visit.

Awesome brunch, deserves better ratings. In my humble opinion, this place should be higher in reviews rankings. Great coffee, spectacular Avocado Salmon toast (Tostada Mañanera), and yummy Angus breakfast sliders. The quail egg was perfect and makes them so juicy, and yes, you can taste the Spanish Chorizo bits in there. Friendly staff, and great location right at the entrance of old San Juan. You won't be disappointed.

We recently hosted a private event at Caficultura and cannot speak more highly about the experience we had with management, servers, and accommodations. The restaurant itself is incredibly picturesque with beautiful decor and interior design. From the beginning of the menu and drink planning to execution on the day of, Caficultura management worked with us to craft an event that fit within our budget and pleased all of our guests. They communicated well throughout the upcoming months and especially well the evening of the event, even accommodating our guests as the event came to a close. Our guests showered compliments on the plated dinner, pass around appetizers, and cocktails. They also loved the location, perfectly situated in front of a plaza and easy to locate for those unfamiliar with Puerto Rico. If you are considering a restaurant buyout for a private event in Viejo San Juan - Caficultura is the absolute best option! Thank you for making the evening so special!

Loved their food and coffee. Great location, near a lively plaza. The fresh squeezed strawberry lemonade was super fresh and delicious, as well.

Barrachina is a historic indoor-outdoor venue located in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is renowned as the birthplace of the world-famous Pina Colada, which was created by Don Ramon Portas Mingot in its magnificent courtyard back in 1963. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring Spanish, Puerto Rican, and international dishes that cater to every palate. Whether you're craving traditional local specialties or familiar international cuisine, Barrachina has something wonderful for everyone.
The food was absolutely amazing!!! First time in Puerto Rico and I would highly recommend. The staff was very welcoming and helped us with food selections. It was my First time eating Mofongo and I would tell everyone to try it! It’s a very hardy dish that reminds you of Homemade mash potatoes but better!

There's construction going on but still made the best of it. We are on a cruise and stopped in San Juan and was suggested this restaurant. The garlic shrimp was delicious. Pina Coladas were good very pineapple tasting. We also tried the Puerto Rican Delight. The empamadas looking things were good and the corn sticks were yummy. We were not a fan of the croquettes but that could be just us.

Barra China in Old San Juan is a good place to drink a cold and delicious piña colada at a reasonable price. The food was just ok and nothing to brag about, but tasty! I’ve always liked the tropical 🌴 atmosphere at Barra China, but after years and years of visiting this bar/restaurant I think that some remodeling and updates to the venue will bring in more business. The piña colada recipe continues to be the star ⭐️ of the show and the service friendly as always. See you soon BC! 🇵🇷

Fun to try the first Pina Colada. We ordered food too and I would NOT order the skirt steak. I'm not sure what it was marinated with but we couldn't even take a bite and ended up paying for a full uneaten plate. We also had the seafood Mofungo. It wasn't my favorite but the seafood was decent. We did like the appetizer plate (2 person portion was easily split by 5). The staff were sweet and friendly! Nice little gift shop next door too.
Bree K — Google review
They were under construction, so I imagine the atmosphere will be amazing soon but was just ok for us. Food was good but not exceptional. Pina coladas are as good as expected for the reputation.
Crystal T — Google review
We went here to try their famous piña coladas and I give those a 10 out of 10 delicious! We only had the appetizer sampler plate, which was typical fried bar food. But definitely go to at least try the piña colada, reasonably priced and worth it!
Kathy C — Google review
If you come here stick to the Pina colada drinks!!! Read more and you’ll find out why. Let’s start with the outside, gorgeous exterior, great photo opportunities. We walked inside and waited for the hostess. We debated whether on grabbing drinks to go vs enjoying drinks at the bar but it was crowded. After waiting a couple of minutes at the to go bar we decided to dine in. Service was still slow at the dining area and the waitress made a comment that she would not be able to greet our table anytime soon since she had other tables. We were there for almost 20minutes or so before we were able to place our order. Eventually she greeted our table and she was fairly pleasant. Of course we ordered Pina coladas which were absolutely delicious. My homegirl is a slow drinker and surprisingly she finished her drink before me! The tostones with pollo and plantanos with mariscos were decent. It lacked flavor but for the price and how hungry we were at that moment we still ate it.
Christina S — Google review
Overrated tourist trap where the Pina Coladas are average, food disgusting and the service is all a scam. Pina- You can find better anywhere else, they're really surviving on that line of being the founding father for Pina Coladas. Food- We ordered coconut calamari and it mediocre. We mentioned we wanted to share the 24 ounce fried fish dish for $27 and was informed by thr service thr only fish she had was 32 ounces with white rice, beans and plantains for $40. The fish was barely 1lbs, hard broccoli and dry plantains. All of a sudden they had no fish that was 24 ounces yet it was on the menu but the 32 ounces was not. Very sketch. Underseasoned and disgusting. They gave me 1 slice of lemon for the fish & I asked the server for more lime and she told me she has to charge, she didn't make the rules. Service- Delayed service, host refused to seat in the courtyard. Sever was pushy for the tip, asked us to leave it on the card and we told her NO, cash. As we were wrapping up eating, she kept asking us for the cash tip. Several forget tip is optional not mandatory. Definitely not a spot I would recommend for eating or drinks. Food is bland and a rip off, in addition, there are better Pina coladas out there. There are similar reviews on this posting and it's 💯 true.

Cocktail bar
La Factoría is a vibrant hangout with a rustic-chic vibe that has gained international acclaim for its excellent cocktails and classic bar bites. It's a local favorite in Puerto Rico, known for introducing mixology to the island. The bar consists of four different spaces, each with its own theme, including a room filled with rum-fueled dancers and a DJ playing until late. The middle space features old-school salsa music and boasts one of the best dance floors on the island.
It's probably the best cocktail bar I have ever been to. Great vibe. I feel like you're back in the Hemingway error. The bartender was awesome and talented. Made me a paper plane and my wife and lavender mule. Excellent. Highly recommend this place
Joe E — Google review
This was, hands down, our favorite spot in San Juan. We went both in the morning and at night, and both experiences were amazing. The bartenders were incredibly kind and professional — they prepared our cocktails right in front of us, based on personal recommendations, and really made us feel special. The cocktails were absolutely fantastic. We tried several different ones, and each had its own unique and delicious flavor. The atmosphere is that of a stylish, elegant bar — I’ll share some photos! Whether you’re looking to relax after a long, hot day or wind down after a night out, this is the best bar in Old San Juan. Highly, highly recommended!
Tuğçe K — Google review
Oh my god, La Factoría with live salsa completely blew my mind! The vibe, the dancing, the music — it’s all just incredible. Definitely a place you can’t miss. The cocktails are excellent, and it’s such a cool experience discovering hidden little bars behind different doors. It does get really hot inside, but honestly, I had an amazing time and would go back in a heartbeat.

I went to dance at this place with my friends because everyone recommended it. It did nit disappoint. It 's located in Old San Juan. Every room in this 2 story building has a bar with a different theme and music, so you can walk around from room to room and enjoy different types of music rhythms like Salsa, techno, reggaeton, techno, etc. The salsa room was packed with people dancing. It seemed like a good combination of locals and tourists.
Yarleny R — Google review
It's somehow highly rated, but not worth the hype. It's kind of different bars all in one place where you can hop on, but becomes costly as you step up! You go here just for the atmosphere, but not for anything else. Cocktails and the food are good and so is the location.
Raghu G — Google review
Reviewed as a bar when looking for delicious drinks this place was ok at best. We arrived close to open and all the additional rooms were closed, so we were told lots of drink options weren’t available. Staff were friendly and service speed was decent. It definitely sounds like this place is a lot of fun at night as basically a club, but definitely not a place for amazing drinks. If you’re looking for great drinks go to Kane Rum Bar. Overall for all the amazing reviews this place was ok, so if you want the best experience for what they offer go at night.
Coach T — Google review
This bar definitely has a great atmosphere. It has different rooms and each room has its own bar. Music is always on point here; can be loud but you’re still able to talk. It’s a tourist area, prices are according to that. Tip: there’s an area most people don’t know about. Have fun looking for it.
Daniel B — Google review
La Factoría is hands down the most fascinating nightlife experience in Old San Juan - a labyrinth of vibes where each doorway reveals another unexpected dimension! What looks like a simple corner bar from the outside unfolds into a series of interconnected spaces, each with its own distinctive personality. The genius of La Factoría is how it seamlessly caters to whatever mood you're in. Want intimate conversation? There are discreet, dimly lit corners perfect for quiet talks or romantic encounters. Feeling energetic? Follow the music to find lively rooms where people dance with abandon. The cocktail program here is seriously impressive - expert bartenders craft drinks with professional precision and creative flair. I was particularly struck by how the drink menus subtly shift between the different bar areas, with each space offering something that complements its unique atmosphere. The crowd is wonderfully diverse - a mix of locals and visitors, creating an authentic Puerto Rican nightlife experience rather than a tourist trap. Security is well-handled, maintaining a safe environment without imposing an oppressive presence. What makes La Factoría special is its choose-your-own-adventure quality. You can start with sophisticated cocktails in the front bar, then drift through various rooms until you find yourself dancing to pulsing beats in a basement space you'd never expect was there. This place deservedly earned its reputation as one of the world's best bars. It transforms throughout the night, starting relatively calm in early evening and building to a vibrant party atmosphere as the hours progress. You can literally bar-hop without ever leaving the building!

History Museums
Casa Blanca, a historic house museum located in Old San Juan, was originally built in the 1520s for Spanish conquistador Ponce de León's family. The well-preserved structure offers visitors a glimpse into colonial life through its architecture, period furnishings, and lush gardens. The museum showcases the daily life of Spanish settlers and indigenous Taino people.
Worth checking out if you have the energy. Only $5/adult, $3 for kids, students, elders. It’s got a great view of old San Juan. You can also check out the garden area for free. The garden area near the fountain is beautiful. There’s a restroom here too (free area). If you’re walking near by, definitely visit this place especially the free area.

Museo Casa Blanca is one of the most magical wedding venues in Old San Juan. After years of recommending it to my couples, I finally had the chance to photograph a wedding here, and it exceeded every dream I had!! With its historic architecture, sweeping ocean views, and lush gardens, Casa Blanca is a rare gem. We had a beautiful First Look in the garden near the fountain, followed by a ceremony in the lower patio with a panoramic view of the San Juan Bay. The setting was quiet, intimate, and unlike anywhere else in the city. As a wedding photographer, I especially love that you don’t need to leave the venue grounds to get a variety of stunning portrait locations: it offers the full Old San Juan aesthetic, all in one place. Sharing a few of my favorite photos to show just how breathtaking this venue can be for an intimate wedding or elopement.
Camille P — Google review
What a disappointment for such an important historical landmark! La Casa Blanca, built in 1521 as the main residence for Puerto Rico's first governor Juan Ponce de León, should be a crown jewel of Old San Juan's historical sites. Instead, it feels like a forgotten relic, abandoned to the whims of fate. The museum's administration appears completely disorganized. There's no official website with reliable information about opening hours, ticket sales, or exhibits. I arrived during what was supposedly "closed hours" according to information I'd found, yet the museum was inexplicably open and staff allowed me to enter. While the $5 entrance fee is reasonable, what follows hardly justifies even this modest price. Once inside, you're essentially on your own. There are no explanatory brochures, no suggested route through the rooms, no informational plaques on the walls—nothing to guide visitors or provide context about what they're seeing. The 16th and 17th-century artifacts are displayed with minimal care or explanation, leaving visitors to guess at their significance. The building itself is undeniably impressive—Old San Juan's oldest residence has an inherent historical gravitas that even neglect can't completely erase. The architecture and glimpses into colonial life are interesting, but without proper interpretation, much of its educational value is lost. Most concerning is the general sense that there's a desire to forget rather than celebrate this important piece of Puerto Rico's Viceroyalty past. Whether due to budget constraints, administrative issues, or perhaps more complex cultural attitudes toward the Spanish period, the result is a significant missed opportunity to showcase an important historical site. This could be a world-class museum with proper investment and curatorial attention. Instead, it feels like walking through an abandoned home filled with artifacts no one cared to explain. A true shame for a structure with such historical significance as the residence of Juan Ponce de León and his descendants.

Beautiful building with a lovely garden. Note: you can walk around the garden without needing to pay for the Museum which is $5. So I highly recommend it!!

Spectacular place with little or no maintenance, very sad. This place is unique in the Caribbean and part of the rich Puerto Rico's history. This place deserves the attention from The ICP for its preservation. Lovely place indeed.

This site was not very busy on a Sunday in Feb, friendly entry guard and lots of gently skittish cats on the property. Cool interior rooms setup like 16th century (I think) but not many placards with info. Cash preferred for entry, but they take card, only $5 and worth it for the views alone. Stunning sea views from main room balcony and front garden. Back garden was set up for a wedding and had pretty fountains and flowers, very peaceful.

Parque de las Palomas, also known as Pigeon Park, is a small outdoor area located at the edge of the fortification walls in Old San Juan. It offers scenic views and park benches where visitors can relax and enjoy the company of friendly pigeons. The park is a popular spot for families, with kids having fun chasing after the pigeons that call this place home.
I don't know if I've already left a review for this little part but this time the gate was open and we had a chance to walk in and go over to the edge and look at the beautiful scenery as well as the rest of the park very beautiful Serene and very peaceful me and my wife love to hear as you can see from the pics and video

'It's a pigeon park!!!" - one of my 3 children, very gleefully. They enjoyed every second of the pigeon park. I enjoyed it to, as it was still a beautiful corner of SJ, with a view and some cute artsy features. It's worth a quick stop by, for sure. We stopped by again in the morning a few days later for a second visit and saw a worker very thoroughly power washing the whole area. This definitely helps with the cleanliness and smell.

Pigeons were cool but it reminded be of Alfred Hitchcock The Birds movie which I watched at a fragile age. They actually landed on peoples arms and they fed them. Then they would all take flight at once and circle for some reason. Great views.

Solid little viewpoint if you’re already exploring Old San Juan. Great breeze, beautiful views of the water and the old city walls, and it’s right on the natural walking route from El Morro. Quick, easy, peaceful. Definitely worth the stop.

A cool spot to visit if you're in Old San Juan... The view is beautiful, and it's a relaxing place to hang out for a bit. But be warned...the second those pigeons see you with the little bag of food, it’s game over 😂. They will come for you like it's a scene from a Hitchcock movie. Fun experience overall, just hold onto your snacks... and maybe your sanity!!!

Parque de las Palomas (Pigeon Park) in Old San Juan—an idyllic small plaza where pigeons flutter freely amid historic city walls and panoramic ocean views. Dozens—or even hundreds—of pigeons roam freely, often perching on visitors and fluttering in from cozy nesting holes carved into the ancient stone wall

Great time! Really enjoyed it. Bags of feed were $2 and lasted a good bit. The pigeons crawl all over you, your head and your arms and such. Watch out for poo. It is very abundant there and they will poo on you.

Ive gone here many times over the years and unfortunately each time it seems more and more neglected. Trash build up, sketchy vendors, limited parking, not to mention it gets overly crowded, the bathrooms are quite frankly disgusting as well, but on the bright side, if you come at the right time it is a very beautiful and peaceful beach.

Beautiful beach, this is my second time coming here. the waves range from calm to more aggressive for those who like to surf. There is a lot of seaweed and your normal sea stuff at the shore but once you get past it, it’s pretty and blue. The sand is not as soft. There are a few rocks on the seafloor but nothing too immense. Theres a lot of area to sit. Not a lot of food directly on the beach but nearby. It’s easy and free to enter. Mostly safe as long as you keep an eye on your stuff. Kid friendly, of course with supervision.

Verde Mesa is a charming restaurant located in the heart of Old San Juan. The cozy and rustic ambiance, with pressed-tin ceilings and vintage furniture, sets the stage for a delightful dining experience. The menu features superb Mediterranean-Caribbean fusion cuisine, with a focus on using indigenous tropical ingredients and fresh local produce. Vegetarian-friendly options are plentiful and inventive, such as the refreshing ceviche-style chayote salad and hearty pumpkin and barley porridge.
While in Puerto Rico we wanted to support the movement for food sovereignty through sustainable farm to table dining and it led us to Verde Mesa which was an incredible dining experience. The moment we entered the restaurant we were greeted with boisterous conviviality and an ambiance that was cozy, creative, and full of personality. The Local Tomato Salad was excellent, even our 16 year old was surprised how much he liked it because he usually doesn't eat tomatoes. Vegan friendly menu. The Verde Mesa Rice was a really standout dish and the guys loved the Purple Cloud dessert. This is a restaurant I can't wait to go back to.

Top of my list! Truly a gem. Everything we tried was spectacular, from cocktails to appetizers to main dish to dessert. Our waiter, Pedro, was telling us you can't go wrong with any dish in this place and I believe him. Nice decor, classical, but magical. The infusion Cocktails were unique. Tiradito de Atun with Passion Fruit was gone in seconds. Lamb-filled Cappelletti, nice Moroccan flavors. For mains, we were recommended their Verde Mesa house Rice (Vegetarian), a MUST try. And we also shared the Pork Cheeks, and they were a perfect blend of flavors with the rice. Both enough portions to share for two people. Almond Flour Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake to finish a perfect dinner, so rich, but very well balanced in sweetness. I believe this place has been in operation for 16-years, I wish them many more to come. They seem to have achieved culinary perfection. P.S. Pedro was so cordial, welcoming and friendly it really made our night special, Thank You!

Verda Mesa is a gem in San Juan! This farm-to-table restaurant not only delivers fresh, flavorful dishes but also a truly memorable dining experience. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with just the right mix of rustic elegance and cozy charm. We ordered the arroz verde with snook (robalo) on top, and it was simply outstanding—the flavors were vibrant, perfectly balanced, and beautifully presented. Every bite felt like it was crafted with care and made from thoughtfully sourced ingredients. The service was excellent as well—attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming, which added even more to the experience. From the atmosphere to the presentation, every detail reflected passion and dedication. Highly recommended for anyone seeking delicious food with a local touch and an atmosphere that feels both special and comfortable.

From amazing decor, to tasty drinks, and food, what else do you need? Christina was our server tonight. She was wonderful and patient. I was worried that the Lavanda-rita would be soapy and too strong. She assured me it's strong, but not at all soapy. I'm happy I grabbed it, because it's truly a remarkable drink. It's perfect. Next up, appetizers that I will think about forever. Fresh tasting tuna with a fun spiced twist. Toasted scallops with pineapple galangal. I recommend eating with a spoon, so you scoop up all the goodness in one bite. Main dishes were star plates. I had the Tuna with daikon caramel, bok choy, and pumpkin. I actually teared up, the fish was well seasoned with a kiss of ginger that brought everything together beautifully. My boyfriend had the snook on top of cabbage, fareeka, ghee, ginger. It reminded me of my grandma's cooking in the best way. Like food for my southern soul, it was such a comforting palate. And then to top everything off, the passion fruit panna cotta. Heaven. I'm an emotional person, and this place and service made me cry. I don't know if I cried because this experience was near perfect or if I'm sad I can't have it again soon. Thank you, Verde Mesa team. I will be spreading the good word about you to everyone in New Orleans that will listen to me. To anyone reading this thinking about going here, do yourself a favor and please support and enjoy a fantastic place. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

They have an impressive wine selection and provide guidance on pairing dishes with the best-suited wine. The top-notch service from knowledgeable staff makes for a special dining experience. Guests rave about the incredible dishes, impeccable service, and predict that the restaurant will quickly become a popular hotspot due to its exceptional quality and attention to detail.
Romantic, eclectic, creative, and cool. This place had so many seafood options and all of them came in a wholly innovative package. Each dish had flavors that lit up tastebuds all over your tongue with sour, sweet, umami, and savory. The art on the walls is quirky and fun, the music is atmospheric, the servers are in dreadlocks and unironic trucker hats, and the vibe is consistent. Our Syrah was excellent too. This was such a great dining experience and I would definitely come again.

My favorite restaurant in Puerto Rico! They change their offerings every two months, showcasing an eclectic menu always. This restaurant is for the curious, fun, and adventurous palate. Great wine selections too!

This is absolutely one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. A must try if you’re in San Juan. The food is so delicious and creative, like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The fish is fresh every single night and the team that curates and cooks every meal is amazing, so attentive to the guests, your experience and feedback. Couldn’t recommend more! Also, you’re eating in a beautiful art gallery. 10/10 experience

Creative cuisine with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Their dish creations are especially divine. The place is beautiful with a very pleasant atmosphere. They have very good wines and they guide you during dinner to pair the dishes with the wine that best suits them. The service is top and each and every one of the staff knows the product served in the restaurant, which makes it a special dinner due to the first-class attention you receive when you are there. Thanks!🧡

After a year of drooling over every single picture that Celeste's team posts on social media, my family and I finally got to experience their heartfelt hospitality and boundless culinary talent. Blown away doesn’t even describe how we felt during our meal. There were tears of joy. There was a range of guttural noises and gasps between forkfuls. There were flavors I want to relive every day, forever (sadly, we live hundreds of miles away). The atmosphere is intimate yet elevated; a perfect balance between comfort and experience. Diners are surrounded by an eclectic composition of music and art, and are served masterpieces on a plate. Our lineup was one spectacular dish after another, highlighting the freshest local ingredients, and daring our tastebuds with every bite: * Bone marrow whipped with Canadian maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and topped with fried green shiso leaves. Picatostes on the side for scooping. 🤤🫠 * King salmon crudo with twice-fried shallots and pistachio oil in a tandoori guava sauce. 🔥 * Berberechos (cockles) with lime, watermelon radish, pink celery, and red peppers. Tears were shed. 🥲 * Blackfin tuna crudo drizzled with fermented mango honey and topped with flaky sea salt and Thai basil. ☠️ * Yellowfin tuna crudo with Meyer lemon, fried capers, and caper leaves. 🌟 * Dorado with sweet green melon, lulo juice, cured cucumber, white onion, coriander seed, and cilantro oil. 💚 * Cardinal prawns a la plancha with Old Bay, fresh herbs, and garlic oil. 🦐 * Tuna and swordfish flautas. 😍 * Quail with pink celery under whipped escabeche and a marsala glaze. 💛 A second stomach would have been a gift at this point, but we couldn't leave without tasting the incredible milhojas (super reminiscent of a Mexican cajeta, especially the one from the tragically closed Cielito Lindo in Condado), and the delectable knefe, a perfect nod to the Levantine treat. ✨ A trip to Puerto Rico would be incomplete without visiting Celeste. I can’t wait to see what they cook up next. 🩵

What a restaurant! Great atmosphere, fresh food, locally sourced ingredients, and great wine selection. The tomato, the tuna, the lamb, the fish, the desert, all exceeded expectations. Owner and staff were very welcoming and made sure we had a 5 star experience. Reservations are required, we appreciate it because it made for a quiet and intimate environment. We will be sure to make another reservation next time we are in San Juan.

WOW what an epic find (if I do say so myself…!) every single dish was incredible. I really loved how much roe was included in the rice dish. Also obsessed with the tartare and spice level. I wish we could go back in time and start the meal over. Service impeccable. I will agree with the other reviewers that it can be a bit awkward to ask the price of a glass of wine so I think the server should go ahead and say the per glass price upfront to save the guest the “will I or won’t I?” Thank you for such an amazing experience tonight!
