Nestled among towering trees near Kinomiya Station, Kinomiya Shrine is an ancient and picturesque shrine with a mystical atmosphere. Accessible through a tunnel track, the shrine is home to a revered 2,000-year-old camphor tree and enshrines Isotakeru-no-Mikoto, the deity of forestry. Visitors come to pray in front of this magnificent tree, seeking blessings for longevity and strength in facing life's obstacles.
Came on a Wednesday at 9am and while there were some people there it definitely wasn't crowded like we saw around 1 or 2 pm. It is such a lovely shrine with so many little pathways - there's a path of small tori gates (only like 8), then some stairs to view the river / stream. The shrine is said to bring good fortune and luck. It's well known for its 2000 year old camphor tree, if you walk around the tree it's said to add a year to your life span. We walked around that and the smaller tree for good measure. :)

A temple surrounded by nature. The main attraction are the 2 centuries-old trees. There are also two cafes with outdoor tables where you can enjoy nature while drinking a coffee.
Matias S — Google review
A beautiful shrine with a very old and picturesque camphor tree - walking around it is said to extend your life by one year. There was also a nice cafe on the grounds to get a nice snack or beverage. We parked at a nearby pay lot. You can get parking validated if you buy items from the shrine shop.
Michael T — Google review
Beautiful shrine and kind staff. We started our goshuinmeguri here because we loved the trees and the wooden goshuincho. Even on a very hot day, the shade and trees are cooling. As with other popular shrines, please go early in the day to avoid crowds.
Dave B — Google review
A serene shrine that’s home to a 2000 years old camphor tree which legends says will add one year of age every round you walk around it. What I like is there are phone stands in front of several photo spots for selfies and even a platform that allows people to go up to take pictures with the ancient tree up close, and also a shop for lucky charms which have a lot of different designs.
JoyC — Google review
Huge temple complex with a few different buildings and 2 very old trees (1300 and 2000 years old). There a parking lot to the right of the temple.
Matthijs — Google review
What a wonderful, beautiful, traditional shrine. The treat options were great (ice cream and sweet potato chips were absolutely stood delicious), and the staff were all extremely pleasant women. Truly a life-affirming experience 💜
Kay E — Google review
Tranquil temple filled with lush greenery that provided a cool refuge from the summer heat. The sounds of the nearby waterfall added to the serene ambience of the temple. The highlight of the temple is the ancient camphor tree which is said to add a year to your lifespan each time you circle it. What I feel the temple done weel was the inclusion of phone stands that allow visitors to take pictures at photo spots such as the camphor tree. Surprisingly, there are quite a number of modern minimalist structures in the temple, such as the cafe right by the main shrine. The temple is free to enter and was not very crowded on a late weekday afternoon when I visited.

Atami Plum Garden is a must-visit destination, especially from January to March when it hosts a vibrant plum festival. The garden boasts 3,000 plum trees with various colors and types of blossoms. Visitors can enjoy the serene atmosphere by strolling through the park, admiring waterfalls and the Korean Garden, and visiting the memorial museum.
Cute spot with several plum and cherry blossoms blooming as of late February. Although we didn't try it, there's a small onsen to dip your feet at the top of the route. Unfortunately it was very cloudy when we went, but still a good experience. The garden is located at the top of a hill from the nearest train station. Several street food vendors available within the garden. Animal-friendly spot with several guests having leached dogs and even a leached cat.
Roberto Z — Google review
I came here end of Feb 2025 and most of the plums fully bloomed. The garden is very beautiful with scenic setting, walking trails and a small foot bath at the end of the garden. There’s a waterfall where you can go inside
Jupiter N — Google review
What a beautiful park. It's not lit up, so you want to go there during daylight hours. The museum/memorial is located within the garden and has strict opening times. While the garden is free, the memorial requires a small entry fee. We strolled around the garden in April. Water was gushing down the streams and over small falls. There are tributes to other cultures, including Korean. At this time of year, the plants and trees are blossoming. There are a number of places to sit and enjoy the ambience. A very relaxing energy. The walkways are wheel chair friendly. A few people were taking their dog for a walk. I didn't see any big dogs, though. You can get get drinks at vending machines at the entrance. Otherwise, there is a 7/11 across the road. The walk from Kinomiya train station is moderate in difficulty.

Pictures as of 22/Feb 2025. Park was bigger than expected and a great hike up if u choose to walk from the blossom bridge, I would suggest taking the bus. Visitors are plentiful but not overwhelming. Price for local residents and tourist staying in Atami is 100yen and others are 300yen.
Khai — Google review
It’s unfortunate we weren’t there for the blossoms. A wonderful way to spend 3 hours. Waterfalls, gardens, beautiful trails. Admission was only ¥100.00. You won’t be disappointed.
Richard L — Google review
I visited on 1st Feb. The plum blossoms were not in full bloom and a lot of trees were still bare, but it was still beautiful! The foot bath is very hot, so be careful if you are sensitive ~
Stella D — Google review
Not all the trees were fully in bloom, but it was still beautiful and the sweet scent filled the air was very relaxing. I didn’t expect the garden to be as large as it was, though.

Around 8 minutes by taxi from Atami station. No need to buy ticket for 梅園. Although it was raining but the 紅葉 was amazing. This place is with very good maintenance and worth to come. You can walk around and take bus near by the museum. The museum is a peaceful place but need to buy ticket. We entered but mainly to use the toilet there(sorry to say that).(photos taken on 12/15)

Kiunkaku is a unique and noteworthy historical landmark in Atami that showcases a fusion of traditional and modern architecture. This villa, turned inn, offers tours of its lush Japanese garden which boasts impressive koi fish. Visitors can explore the traditional Japanese house on the premises as well. The location should be approached with care, as the glass is fragile. Kiunkaku is an attraction worth adding to any itinerary for those interested in architecture or Japanese gardens while visiting Atami.
A very nice villa in te center of Atami. It's supposed to be one of the 3 most beautiful in the region and I can see why. You can park next tot the villa. And then walk around inside to view all the different rooms. There's a nice garden as well.
Matthijs — Google review
Great historical landmark and story from the wealthy family that fulfilling their dreams to make this happen. There will be entrance fees, and need around 1 hour of the tour. Worth visiting if you have spare time.
Bossi C — Google review
Incredible historic resort, ticket is 600 yen (cash only) which is super worth it. There are so many beautiful room with Japanese and western styling, implacable solarium and garden. Highly recommend and a must see.
Simba ( — Google review
Beautiful place with a peaceful vibe. Dazai Osamu had been here, you can enter the room where he stayed at with Tomie Yamazaki. They had seat and some good place for you to stand and look around outside. Taisho vibe, an antique machiya. Price is cheap imo for a good service and splendid place.
Đoàn K — Google review
It's the place where you can plan to go for 20 minutes, and suddenly 2 hours pass by. If you want to leisurely enjoy the architecture of the luxurious former ryokan, mixing Japanese and Western styles, stretching around the beautiful garden, up to 1 hour should be enough ( especially since most information about its guests is in Japanese.) However, with the mix of luck and willingness, you can prolong the stay, making bookmarks out of pressed flowers ( 2 for 500 yen), buying a kimono or stumbling upon the touching poetry recital. There is an elegant vintage café as well. It was a perfectly spent afternoon on a rainy day.
Anytsuaf S — Google review
Nice tourist attraction in Atami. The location has really fragile glass so be aware of this if you need support walking or have kids that like to run around. The garden was beautiful & has some pretty large koi fish that must be over 50 years old.
Craig N — Google review
Beautifully preserved former residence/ryokan that hosted many famous guests such as Osamu Dazai and Yukio Mishima. It features Japanese and Western-inspired interiors, Roman-style baths and a landscape garden. It also hosts exhibitions by local artists and photographers. Despite visiting on the weekend it was not crowded at all. It is a lovely place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Atami Sun Beach

Public beach
Atami Sun Beach is a picturesque sandy strip flanked by palm trees and resort hotels, making it a popular spot for moonlight walks and summer fireworks. Conveniently located near rental shops, main roads, and a charming marina, this beach is ideal for summer fun. Visitors can easily find nearby restaurants and convenience stores to grab a bite or bring food onto the sand. The tranquil atmosphere makes it perfect for relaxation and enjoying nature's beauty.
Watching the **Atami Sea Fireworks** was an unforgettable experience. I sat right on the beach, feeling incredibly close to the stunning display. As the fireworks burst into the dark sky, the entire region lit up, and the impact of the sound was exhilarating. The show lasted about 20 minutes, with the first minute and the last two minutes being particularly spectacular, as fireworks shot up in rapid succession. The atmosphere was electric, and I found myself completely captivated by the colors and sounds. The beach offers plenty of space for viewing, and I appreciated that it wasn’t overly crowded, possibly because the fireworks show is a monthly event. Just bring your own mat for a comfortable spot on the sand, and you’re all set. Overall, the Atami Sea Fireworks was a fantastic experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a magical evening by the sea!
Michelle H — Google review
A beach popular with locals as well as tourists to Atami. There is a breakwater promenade on the south side if the beach, hosting a pier for recreational boats, and is a nice place to sit and relax in the evenings. The sun is strongest here in the mornings, given that it faces east.
Jason — Google review
We visited Sun Beach in August 2025. Although the posted swimming hours are 9:00-16:00, in reality most continue to swim after that, just without lifeguards. The sand is soft and the water is fairly shallow and calm. It is very nice to come at night for the illuminations. There were also many families doing fireworks in the sand. There are coin lockers, toilets, showers and footwashes (free), and dumpsters on the beach for trash.
Sarah H — Google review
An amazing beach. You can play different activities here. It's perfect to have a bottle of cold beer walking on the beach in hot summer.
Man W — Google review
I went there on Friday night to see a firework show hosted by the atami city. Although I was a bit late, I still found a decent spot for photos. The Japanese people are really disciplined and polite so there wasn’t any people squishing and pushing around. The beach is also really clean with little rubbish only. There is also a small park beside it with water fountains and some nicely decorated handrails. Overall, the environment and atmosphere is amazing with great hygiene. Definitely recommend it for picnics or to have a swim. Below are some photos I took during the firework show, pls enjoy!!!☺️
A E — Google review
Awesome beach with lots of bars along the coast. Has a great view of Mt Fuji in the distance.
Dian A — Google review
Nice firework show that you can view closely on the beach, with relative not much crowd. The show lasts for around 20 minutes which is relatively short compared to other cities in Japan. It's a pity that they don't have any pop-up stores that sell food or souvenirs. Not many decent restaurants nearby too.
Victor L — Google review
Atami Sun Beach is a stunning and relaxing destination that truly captivates with its beauty. The clean, crystal-clear waters and soft, white sand create a picturesque setting reminiscent of Busan, Korea. Whether you're looking to soak up the sun or take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline, this beach offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In addition to the beach, there are plenty of other attractions nearby, making it an excellent spot for a day trip or a weekend getaway. Whether it's exploring local shops, enjoying delicious seafood, or simply taking in the views, Atami Sun Beach has something for everyone. Overall, it's certainly worth a visit for anyone seeking a relaxing beach experience! 🌴✨

Although it was a small footbath, it had a strong presence and I was quite satisfied. The power of Itokawa's water is amazing, and the sound and wind make you feel refreshed. What I received on this day Sauteed seafood and 10 types of vegetables 1500 yen (excluding tax) Today's Omakase Lunch 1300 Mocha chiffon 580 Tea chocolate 580 Barley pudding 430 Today's omakase lunch was a Japanese-style hamburger steak, and it had a gentle flavor with organic vegetables. It's colorfully arranged on one plate, and the visual information makes it even more delicious! This is important, isn't it? The handmade sweets are also available at Kinomiya Shrine, and the rustic barley pudding was especially delicious. We had some organic vegetables lined up in the case in front of the entrance, but the prices were aggressive. I wondered from a smart housewife's perspective that it would be nice if they sold several types of products as a set.

Family restaurant
I have been to the ジョナサン 熱海サンビーチ店 family restaurant two nights in a row and found the prices for their service and comfort to be reasonable. On the first night, I had a sendai beef steak with an appetizer for approximately 2900 yen, while on the second night, I enjoyed a large grilled chicken with an appetizer for around 1800 yen.
Japanese family restaurants where you can dine with your dog. Orders are placed from a tablet placed on the table, and service and payment are automated. You can Pay with credit cards, suica, rakuten pay. The time between ordering and the super cute robot bringing the food is quick. And greet you well too. Kids menu is a plus ❤️ All-you-can-drink service, including coffee, tea, various drinks and hot chocolate. Salads, desserts, soup of the day, good value lunches, good sea views, great for families. The view is nice cause it is near the beach and a good place to eat for breakfast or when you stayed late near the sea. また必ず来るよ。シンガポールより

Very close to the seaside, spacious and opens at 7am! Food is ok, free drinks bar, bit the robot waiter and the full automation takes aways the experience

Not a bad place. Definitely worth a stop for a quick bite and then move on to next place. Nothing really good or bad about this place. Price was fair, food was good, view is nice.
Damian B — Google review
We went there for coffee (as the name suggested!), but turns out you can’t order drinks alone — food is a must. Sadly, not a single vegan option on the menu, not even a simple Margherita pizza. The best (and worst) part? It’s fully self-service. No host, no one to ask for help. You order from a tablet on the table, but if you have allergy questions… good luck finding someone! Thankfully, one elderly lady cleaning tables was kind enough to assist us. We were also excited to see that a robot would serve the food — but since we couldn’t order, there wasn’t much to serve. Overall, a disappointing experience. Technology is great, but you simply can’t replace human warmth in the service industry.

It is a rare style at a Japanese family restaurant where you can eat with your dog. The waitress is friendly and professional, and the food is of high quality. The scenery is also wonderful.
DUBSKE M — Google review
This is pretty good and affordable just like any other Jonathan’s restaurants. The only difference is that there is sand on the floor because it’s near the beach. It has a nice view of the ocean and it’s great for families. If you find yourself in the area stop by!
Kelly J — Google review
It's your run of the mill Jonathan family restaurant, so the food is as you would expect. What makes this place a little special is the location - it's right on the beach front and offers some great views while you dine. Not worth a detour, but if you're nearby and just want to get something quick, it's not bad.
Mikey T — Google review
We get the queue from reception machine and wait for so long without any staff recognizing even there are few customers in the restaurant. Order food from tablet is weird. After we ordered breakfast, the system asked us to add free flow drink bar at cost of 439yen so we decided not to order. After the breakfast order submitted, the system showed the price for free flow drink bar at lower price of 249yen instead. However, this restaurant is at very good location to sit and see the sun beach in Atami.

Cafe
Hanano Yosei is a charming cafe located within the New Akao Hotel in Atami, offering stunning views of Sagami Bay and Nishikigaura cliffs. The menu features seasonal fruit parfaits, cakes, scones, and muffins. While some find the food overpriced and limited in variety, the picturesque setting and ambiance receive high praise. The cafe's layout ensures that diners can enjoy sea views from any seat.
What a nice view to enjoy a meal! Like the design of the layout, no matter where you're seated, you could still get a seaview. Very limited choice of savory dishes, more suitable for a drink and dessert. The lemon parfait was lovely!

10/21/2025 - The Hanano Yousei Restaurant & Sweets 花の妖精 is a cafe located just across the Hotel New Akon Horizon Wing providing simple coffee (no cuppucino), parfaits and fruits teas while dining on the cliff overlooking the ocean and the Hotel. In Japan, it is not easy to find a restaurant offering a cuppucino drink due to a high daily maintenance reason!

If you are lucky to have seat around window, yeah you will enjoy a beautiful view and dessert. I don’t think that the dessert would make you feel wow!! This is very delicious. I can say that yes all is good while you can enjoy the beautiful sky and beautiful view. If you have a seat that cannot see any view, i think it is not that worth for tho..

beautiful view, but old environment with old and poorly maintained furniture. The Parfait ¥ didn't match the price, we didn't like the service. I found a plastic bag of oshibori on floor where I sat.

This is the type of cafe that is good to experience it just once.. Do not expect to have fantastic food or variety, but all for the grams The pomelo parfait was honestly overpriced, but not bad, maybe peach or strawberry when it was in season could have been better :( But the view and the vibes are definitely 100/100

Atami Castle, perched atop Nishikigaura in Atami City, is a unique tourist attraction replicating the look of a traditional castle tower. Built in 1959, it offers diverse attractions such as an exhibition on Japan's castles and a 360-degree panoramic view from the top floor. Visitors can also enjoy a jet foot bath on the first-floor balcony while taking in magnificent views, especially during cherry blossom season.
Not a traditional castle but still a great experience. Amazing views at the top. There was a samurai museum in the first floor and an arcade below. Lovely cafe of the cliff adjacent
Phoebe E — Google review
The view from this tourist castle is nice. And the samurai museum is cool. But remember this was created I the 1950's to attract tourists so it's not a real castle. There's plenty of parking if you drive right up to the castle.
Matthijs — Google review
This place was built solely for the purpose of sucking in tourists. For eleven months, I have been looking at it from my balcony on the other side of the harbor. This morning, I peddled my bicycle up there. It was good exercise and little else.
Howard B — Google review
Even though it's an old Japanese-style castle, I wondered why the inside wasn't cramped, and it seems to be because the building was constructed in 1958. Floors 1 to 5 are museums, and the 6th floor is an observation deck. The first basement floor had a free arcade, which I really liked because unlike the arcades outside where you have to insert a coin every time you die in a game, here you could play the arcade machines for free without limit.
최선홍 — Google review
We really enjoyed all of the model's and history of japanese castles. The views are stunning. Taking the rope way up is very unique. Skip the 3rd floor folks...If there's a trap... it's this one
Dave N — Google review
Very crowded, but beautiful castle. In the inside there is nothing much, but the view from the top floor is spectacular. The souvenir shop is ok. The worst thing is the location - very incovienent for people who don't have car. From the bus stop it's still 15 minutes walk uphill, very steep. Local bus is unreliable, today it was delayed by 40 minutes. You have to wait for the bus at the edge of a busy road, next to a tunnel. You can of course go to the castle by ropeway, but it's very expensive and you still have to walk uphill. In front of castle is a cafe, restaurant and a lot of small stalls. Overall, it's an interesting structure, but I wouldn't visit it again because of the inconvenience.
Stella R — Google review
I'm a foreigner from the USA visiting. I enjoyed Atami castle. It was clean and there were many interesting exhibits. My favorites were the miniature buildings depicting battles from old times. And there was enough of a mixture of things to do to keep the whole family interested in something including the children who might want to just play the arcade games while the adults explore. Very fun experience. Though I was really interested in learning of the history of Atami.
John M — Google review
Interesting experience. Small but something to see on each of the 6 floors + a basement with an arcade. I wish we had our kids because I think they would enjoy the interactiveness- there was the arcade of course, a sword to hold in the samurai museum, some old games to test before you buy at the souvenir shop and plenty of fun photo opportunities (we didnt do the trick art museum, but fun if youre into recreating funny shots like being eaten by king kong). We came when it was raining so we could only imagine the views but worth a visit if you're in Atami. We decided a 1600 yen - 9 minute taxi cab was worth it from kinomiya station.

Hihokan - Adult Museum Atami is a one-of-a-kind museum located in Atami, Japan. It offers an intriguing collection of erotic art and artifacts that provide insight into the history and culture of sexuality in Japan. The museum features interactive displays, colorful exhibits, and sculptures that tastefully celebrate human sensuality. Visitors can enjoy quirky interior designs, comedic porn vignettes, and interactive exhibits that require twisting handles and pressing buttons.
To begin with, Atami was a popular honeymoon destination. It's a museum of hidden treasures that exists precisely because it's a honeymoon destination. The treasure, after all, is children, isn't it? Sorry for this ordinary comment.

Might be funny. Educative, in a way – like "what our grandpa could consider a forbidden fruit, some sixty years ago". Less provocative then its counterpart in Amsterdam (for example). The place could still arise a schoolboy of thirteen, with hormones oozing from his ears; but alas! Kids are not admitted. While adults would hardly find the exhibition resloy exciting, just curious at the most.

It was funny to go through this area with my wife. I could see this being a fun bf/gf date (18+ or older). Some of the stuff (games) didnt work and maybe 2 attractions were down for repairs. If you're staying in the area its a fun place to stop by to pass time.

A must go in Atami. Quite interactive museum with funny 18+ interactions. Just above this place is Atami castle. Take note to take the Ropeway.. DO NOT TRUST GOOGLE MAP ON TAKING THE BUS AND STOPPING WHERE IT TELLS YOU TO STOP TO GO TO THE MUZEUM
Froghead F — Google review
Quite a nice view. Can overlook the whole Atami complemented by an exquisite sea view. There is a small cafe for one to grab a cool bite of ice cream, along with some fresh ice cold soda. There is also a nice seating area for people to chillax. There are also some claw machine and gambling machine, but I don't see much purpose to them. Only thing to critique is that I got electrostatics shocked by their metal fence railing overlooking the view. I don't know why that's the case, but my companions also got shocked by that same fence, hilariously. Overall, the view is nice and the ride wasn't expensive.

One of the highlights of my visit to Japan. A beautiful bus ride brought us to this eclectic museum on a mountain that overlooked the ocean. The museum is home to a variety of old erotic art, animatronics, shadow boxes, and more. Some art was very beautiful or fascinating, and much of it was surprising and hilarious. No photos, but it’ll be hard to forget.

The Atami Trick Art Museum is a unique and entertaining gallery featuring interactive 3D murals that are popular for creating optical-illusion photos. Visitors can enjoy exploring the small yet convenient museum, with staff on hand to assist in taking photos. The art is creative and provides multiple opportunities for visitors to capture fun and interactive images. Located close to Atami Castle, it's worth checking out if you're in the area, offering a great alternative tourist attraction option that showcases trick art creativity.
This was one of the most bizarre experiences I had here in Japan. This was a museum based on optical illusions and was full of fun photo opportunities. We were also fortunate enough to see some cherry blossoms by the entrance. There was a beautiful outlook over the ocean. If you’re in the Atami area, this spot if definitely worth checking out if you like illusions and unique places.

It’s a great place for family’s or people who like taking photos. Most of the photo spots require two people at least so I would recommend going with someone. The staff were a little rude, but it could be because it was a little busy. It’s also great for rainy days and the gift shop is fairly priced. You can purchase tickets pretty easily at the front counter.

ACAO FOREST is a vast expanse of floral gardens, including a swing on the cliffside, a shrine and a cafe. It is well-known for its picturesque beauty, making it extremely popular among photographers. The aroma emanating from the flowerbeds provides an invigorating feeling to visitors. Admission fee costs 2k yen and includes transportation to the top of the garden with an option to walk back down.

On the Atami hillside overlooking the Sagami Bay is a a gem of a spot where nature is nurtured to bloom. The acao forest is a collection of 12 themed gardens, art installations, shrines and one of the most stunning views of the bay especially on a clear sunny day. It is best arrive here by car and there is ample parking. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance but u save yourself 20% with an online purchase of 2000Y for entry. I recommend taking the shuttle to the top of the hill side and slowly make your way down by foot to enjoy all the gardens. At the top, it is a short hike to visit the shrine, the land art park and some of the gardens. The whole area is fun to explore and don’t forget your camera as the various cliff side views, swings, seats make for great pictures. Even in the midst of winter where the bloom is at its lowest it made for a great day out. There is a cafe cum cocktail bar near the summit and a lovely Italian restaurant at the base. Both are worth a visit just for a meal with a view!

**Land Art Park ACAO Forest** is a breathtaking hillside park perfect for sightseeing and relaxation. Spanning a vast area, it’s adorned with blooming flowers and whimsical props ideal for photo opportunities. Despite its size, the park features a convenient shuttle bus service, making it easy to explore. I recommend visiting the park before noon for the best lighting; I arrived at 3:30 PM and found the photos lacking in brightness. Fortunately, as the sun began to set, the sky transformed into a beautiful pink hue, creating a stunning backdrop for my pictures. I also had the pleasure of visiting **COEDA House**, a café designed by the renowned architect Kengo Kuma. The structure elegantly mimics the shape of a tree, harmonizing perfectly with the surrounding landscape. I enjoyed a delightful cake and coffee there, making for a truly pleasant afternoon. Overall, ACAO Forest is a must-visit for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike!

Amazing place with a spectacular view! It’s a bit on the pricey side, but the service makes it worth it—the bus driver even went out of his way to return a passenger’s lost sunglasses. It’s best to arrive early to avoid crowds and to get great photos. They even have selfie stands, which is perfect for solo travelers. Highly recommend!

A beautiful place. At the time of this review price is now ¥4,000, but it is totally worth it if you take your time. Many people just go to the spots catered for instagram, like the swing and bell, but the entire garden is beautiful and they have a herb workshop by the fountain. Take the shuttle to the top then walk down. Well with the trip.

When I was there in May, the rose was blooming. So pretty!! We took the shuttle bus to the top, but I enjoyed it more on the walk from the top to the entrance.

Herb and rose garden out of nowhere. With beautiful flowers ans herbs. They have a bus to ride inside . Usually people go up the hill by bus and come down walking and enjoying views. At the top they have shrine, botanical garden and a cafe. As you stroll down you will enjoy great views and some surprises waiting for you . Cafe is nice with different pizza menu. Shop is good. For access: bus stop is just outside the garden.
Mugdha G — Google review
Ended up here by accident, but it was a beautifully maintained forest/garden. When you get there, you pay a small fee to be ridden on a bus to the top of the mountain and then you start to make your way down. It's not that bad of a climb but if you have leg problems you may want to consider taking the bus down which I saw some people do!

At 貴美の浜焼き in Atami, you can enjoy a delightful seafood dining experience. The staff is known for their friendliness and willingness to assist non-Japanese speakers. They take pride in serving fresh seafood, often bringing out the clams, scallops, and conch shells straight from the water before grilling them to perfection. This restaurant offers an authentic Japanese atmosphere while being accommodating to foreigners.
best experience, a simple restaurant on the side of the road, but don't belittle their seafood because it is the best

They prepared the fish we caught on our fishing trip, along with some grilled shellfish. It was wonderful and convenient for us. So cool to eat our own fresh catch!
Margarita V — Google review
The seafood was fresh and delicious! The staff were friendly and tried their best to explain things to us despite our lack of proficiency in Japanese. They brought some of the things we ordered (clams, scallop, conch shells) fresh out of the water to show us before heading back to the kitchen and popping them on the grill. This place has a bit of a roadside restaurant vibe, so you’re really paying for the fresh seafood and not the ambience, but I quite enjoyed watching the cars drive by and the atmosphere of the restaurant. It reminded me of travelling abroad and being in South East Asia! Some parts of the shellfish were very gritty, but really, that’s to be expected with shellfish.

Terrible service from waitress and kitchen. One of the dishes was different from the picture in the menu. First waitress said that it's like that because they didn't have the ingredient today. I called another waitress, this time magically the ingredient was there. Also too expensive for the food, no different from other restaurants in the city but with double of price.

The dessert cart service is very satisfying, and you could just have the appetizer platter and bread, but you'll never get tired of the wagyu beef fillet and lobster, no matter how many times you eat them. There are other French restaurants around Atami and Hakone, but the food at Shunyotei is a full-course meal that will make you want to come back again. I'll visit you again next spring. This is a wonderful restaurant where you can enjoy the fresh air while looking at the flowers in the garden and the carp in the pond.

(Translated by Google) I went there for lunch. Please note that the parking lot is located above the road, so if you miss the Shunyotei sign, you may end up passing by. From the parking lot, you have to walk through the garden and climb the stairs to get to the store, so it may be difficult for people with walking disabilities, but there is a different route that can take you to the store, so it's not a problem for people with walking disabilities. I think the route is good. The entrance to the store is at the top of the stairs, so if you're in a wheelchair, you might want to check to see if it's wheelchair accessible and has a back entrance. Lunch is reasonably priced, but if you have the option to change the main dish, the price will be better. The food is delicious overall and the scenery is beautiful, with a beautiful view of the ocean when the weather is clear.

This time I ordered the S course for a small lunch, and it was very satisfying. If you make a particular request, the food will be served slowly, so it's best to have plenty of time. The saucer of the cold soup is made with flowers that are blooming in the garden, making it a soup that is pleasing to the eye. The highlight is the dessert. You can choose 5 types out of more than 10 types, but for an additional fee you can eat all the types. Only my wife paid an additional fee and received one piece of each type of dessert. This is a restaurant you would definitely want to enjoy on a sunny day or at dusk while enjoying the view. There is one more wonderful restaurant that I would like to visit again. (Translated by Google) For lunch, I had a course of plump lobster. A wonderful French restaurant that pops up by chance on your way to Atami. It has a history of just under 40 years. It was nice from the gate you drive in, but from there you walk through the garden, to the parking lot with a view of the ocean, and then inside...the path gets more and more exciting. When you enter the building, you will find a calm space. I was surprised that a place like this existed in Atami. The course begins with a portion of melted cheese, followed by quiche and salad. This quiche was packed with vegetables and was very delicious. When I think of quiche, I think of it as being hardened with eggs, but it changes my image in a good way. soup. Today it's pumpkin soup. The flavor of the material itself stands out. And the main Omar. Served with a simple and delicate Americana sauce. Not only does the omar itself have a chewy texture, but the seasoning is also exquisite. Omar's Américaine sauce can sometimes erase the flavor of Omar, but it makes the best use of the ingredients. The accompanying bread was also freshly baked and delicious. Finally, dessert carry. I received all of it, but it was such a luxury. I heard that they also have a tart shop in front of Yugawara, which caught my attention. It was a good shop with courteous service until the end. I would like to visit you again when I come to Atami.

Museums
Perched on a hilltop, MOA Museum of Art offers a captivating experience with its collection of over 3,500 East Asian art pieces, including national treasures and significant cultural assets. The museum boasts stunning panoramic views of Atami and the sea from its main lobby and MOA Plaza. Visitors can also unwind in the tranquil Ippakuan Tearoom while savoring Japanese confections and matcha tea amidst the beauty of a traditional Japanese garden.
MOA Art Museum 8.5/10 1) Access from Tokyo Take the Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Atami Station and get off at Atami Station, about 40 minutes. From Atami Station, get off at the last stop of the bus bound for MOA Museum of Art building, and it takes about 10 minutes. 2) Cost 9,000 yen for transportation, 2,000 yen for admission fee 3) Review The museum is located on a hill in Atami. The founder, Mokichi Okada, was a religious man, but he originally wanted to pursue a career in art and has a deep knowledge of it. After taking a bus to the top of the hill, visitors can take an escalator up to the top of the hill, where they are surprised to find that the facility is much larger than they expected and imagined. Although it is an art museum, it also has a Noh theater within the facility, where Noh performances are held. In front of the Noh theater, there is a video showing the secrets of the Noh theater, which is very interesting. The golden tea room where Toyotomi Hideyoshi entertained the emperor of the time has been recreated, and a calligraphy by Toyotomi Hideyori gives visitors a sense of history. In addition, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Sagami Bay and be dazzled by the beauty of Atami. There are too many spots to enjoy before entering the exhibition rooms! The July 25 exhibition is an exhibition of works by Japanese living national treasures. The transparency of the glass in the exhibition room is so amazing that you cannot tell that there is glass between you and the exhibits at all, allowing you to concentrate on the artwork. A wonderful project and environment that shows the excellence of the works of the living national treasures. The facility has French, Japanese, Soba, and coffee shops to satisfy your lunch needs.

Small museum on top of a hill. The museum has 3 floors and you an get here by bus. There's a bunch of escalators to the top. We had a rental car so we parked on the 3rd floor. Also saw a bunch of taxis. So I would advies to take one of those options and don't try to walk. The museum itself is nice. There are a lot of woodblockprints and a golden tea room. The garden outside had nice views if the bay below. They also have a small bamboo grove and a few old tea house that were eithere rebuilt or relocated to this area.

The view from the museum is beautiful🥰 Thankfully the coin lockers here are free of charge, meaning I can enjoy the space without my bags. The exhibition I went to was super interesting, scrolls about a fantastical tragic love story from ancient times. The glass was so clear that I sometimes forget about it, and when you take pictures there's no reflection. The outside Japanese garden is also fun to walk around. Would spend about 2-3 hours here, if you don't sit down and eat.
許有宜 — Google review
Please remember that most of the art here is Japanese art, not Contemporary art. The building is amazing and the escalator ride is a piece of art in itself.

The MOA is meticulously prepared and cared about museum. The current exhibit (Rinpa) was nicely detailed with English translation. Every detail was perfect. We also enjoyed the view from the cafe and walking through the japanese garden. There is a direct bus from Atami Station (Stop 8) and you can buy tickets at the entrance. There are coin lockers.

Interesting 20th century scroll paintings, ceramics, and basket art. There is a beautiful garden with a teahouse serving Japanese food. There is a shuttle from the train station. Then you go up 7 escalators to reach the museum. There is a colourful ceiling that changes like a kaleidoscope.

It’s so lovely. Ride up in a cab and walk down. It’s got great view of the bay and city. So many national treasures. I recommend even if you’re a total meathead with zero culture or appreciation of art because it’s got cool escalators.
Scot R — Google review
This is one of those musuems where every part of the musuem architecture is thoughtfully designed and works of art in their own right. I found myself stopping at random points in hallways and doorways, admiring the tasteful thought put into it. The museum sits on top of a steep hill above Atami city, and can be accessed by driving or public bus. The viewing gallery near the entrance provides a paranmoc view of Atami, the sea and the museum compound. There are permanent galleries housing collections of mainly Japanese paintings, pottery and crafts.

Sights & Landmarks
Sacred & Religious Sites
Izusan Shrine is a serene Shinto shrine located on a hill, boasting a history dating back 2,000 years. The shrine features dragon motif decorations and a natural hot spring. Visitors can embark on an invigorating climb up 837 stairs to reach the small yet picturesque shrine. It holds historical significance as it was where Minamoto no Yoritomo sought refuge and met his future wife, earning it a reputation as a love shrine.
One of those places where the history of Japan, deep spiritual experience and breathing taking views are packed in one place. A must see spot for anyone visiting onsen in Atami, Shizuoka prefecture, but it's also very close to other onsen resorts e.g. Yugawara or Hakone.
Greg ( — Google review
After a long climb up many stairs, you reach the inner sanctuary - which provides some beautiful views of Atami, but to reach the main shrine you must continue along a trail up the mountain for an hour or so - which we didn't do, but hope to on a future visit. So for a complete visit, make sure you have at least a couple hours in your schedule, wear comfortable shoes, and be ready for some cardio!

One of the most beautiful shrines I’ve been to. The grounds of this shrine were spectacular, with incredible views over the coast, a large koi pond, beautiful trees including cherry blossom trees and benches to sit and enjoy the view. There are over 150 stairs you’ll need to climb to reach the top but it’s definitely worth it. The shrine shop sells ema and omamori and there’s also a small area you can go “fishing” for a fortune.

Power spot shrine from Kamakura era

One of the well known Shinto shrines in the area, with historical ties to Minamoto no Yoritomo, the founder of Kamakura Shogunate in the 12th century. Legends state that Yoritomo and his future wife Hojo Masako used this place as a secret meeting spot. Accessible via local bus from Atami Station, or car (free parking available). The shrine is literally on the cliffside, and the view towards the sea is great. Must need strong legs and will to go up the long stairs.

Historical landmark
Hashiri-Yu is a unique hot spring located along the Sagami sea, known for its naturally heated thermal water that flows from an underground source. This rare hot spring has been in existence for approximately 1,300 years and was named after the way it runs out towards the coast. The site offers foot baths with stunning views of the sea and is a beautiful spot that remains relatively undiscovered by many visitors.
Beautiful little spot that few people know about. It is rarely busy. It's a short 20 minute visit at most behind a group of unassuming buildings right on the ocean. It is a tunnel containing a large natural opening where you can see the source water for all of the hot springs in Atami. It's hot and steamy like a sauna so you can only be in there for 5 minutes at a time. There is a small shrine above ground to visit. It's a beautiful view and I believe there is a small restaurant/hotel right in front. It's a short drive from the center of town. Worth a stop! It's free to visit, and there is a small lot in front of the hotel to stop your car. You pretty much drive right up to it. Very little walking involved if you drive there with a car.

A quick stop. You can just park down the stairs and walk up to check out this hot spring in a cave. It was discovered 1300 years ago. Will take you 5 minutes to see, but definitely worth it.

Cool very steamy cave, foot bath is nowhere to be seen - possibly somewhere on the 837step uphill trek from cave to large nearby shrine that we skipped. A few spots at a hotel nearby for convenient free parking.

Tiny cave to a natural hot spring. Very cool. Slightly spooky. The foot bath seems to be closed to the public, sadly. It's near the bottom, but roped off.
Adam V — Google review
Free sauna experience open 24hrs! Definitely off the beaten track. No one goes so this will be a unique experience and only 2 min walk from the road. It's the source of all the town's onsens.

Atami Station is a convenient starting point for diving courses, even suitable for beginners, just 45 minutes away from Tokyo. Steam from hot springs curls into ocean air; the station glows with weekend excitement. Atami is both retreat and reunion — laughter against surf, neon against starlight. The Tōkaidō Line ends in warmth, its rails gleaming toward tomorrow’s tide. Tourist Tip: Gateway to Izu Peninsula. Enjoy hot springs, seaside fireworks, and onsen ryokan stays. A fitting finale for a journey from Tokyo’s glass to the ocean’s blue.

A very well kept train station with modern design and brigh lights. There are shops there with friendly staffs for you to explore and get last minute souvenirs or a bite to eat before boarding your train. However I'm very disappointed with the JR staff at the JR counter next to the gates at the main entrance, he was very rude, didn't let me finish my question regarding the location of train stamp, cut me off mid sentence and slammed the window shut, this happened on the 21st October 2025 at 7:50pm.

Compact and easy to navigate train station. The shopping and souvenir center are good
HW — Google review
If you're going to Atami station, and your used to the speedy transit system from Tokyo, be prepared to wait a little longer for your train here. Depending on where your going from Atami station, you may be able to get the exact time slots for departures/arrivals. And if so, it's best to find that out ahead of time. Going to Tokyo, I waited for about 20 minutes. That's just the nature of a non busy station. So plan ahead of time. If not, no worries. They do have a shopping area connected to the station that you can explore a bit while waiting for your train.
Lindo K — Google review
From this station, you can get to Hamamatsu from the westbound train on the Tokaido Line , from the eastbound of the Tokaido Line, you can get to the center of Tokyo (Shinagawa, Tokyo, Ueno) and also on the Ito Line, you can get to Ito and Izukyu-Shimoda. From here you can also ride on the toll limited express train Odoriko. This train usually go to Tokyo, Izukyu- Shimoda from here. The Shinkansen Kodama and sometimes Hikari stops here. At this station, there is a great Japanese soba and udon restaurant on platform number 1. You can order right outside of the restaurant. There, you will find a ticket machine and you have choice to pick any item on the menu. Make sure to decide either you will get the soba or the udon. There are no chairs and it is a small place. On average, five people at the time can be in that restaurant. However, the udon tastes great and the workers were really friendly and helpful. It is not as crowded and if you happened to be at the Atami Station, especially alone, for a lunch, I believe that is definitely a place to go.

Atami Pudding, a beloved local treat, has gained fame through TV appearances and is a must-try for those seeking traditional Japanese sweets. Handmade daily with simple ingredients, it comes in flavors like hot spring eggs or salt to capture the essence of Atami. The store's retro charm on Atami Ginza Shopping Street adds to its allure, marked by a cute pink noren with a hippo character.
We tried the pudding, manju, and ice cream. The original pudding is truly divine! I can see why they sell them as a set of 6. I wish I could bring this back with me overseas. I cannot eat pudding the same way again. Manju was good too, but I would skip it next time for the pudding. Ice cream was toffee or butterscotch/carmel flavor! Very smooth and creamy!! Definitely would come back and definitely recommend

I came to Atami for sightseeing and asked local people about famous food here. They recommended this pudding shop, so I visited! First, I was so shocked by the long queue! So many people! 😱 I waited about 15 minutes, but when I tried the pudding... WOW! It was so delicious! The egg flavor is very rich and creamy. The taste is amazing! 🍮✨ Yes, waiting in line is a bit hard, but I really recommend! The taste is worth it! If you come to Atami, you should try this pudding. Don't miss it! 👍💯
Somsri C — Google review
Thank you to the person who came up with pudding. It’s so popular that the line alone isn’t enough to manage the crowd — there’s a separate waiting area a little away from the shop, and people are called to the line from there. I ordered the limited Royal Milk Tea flavor. I was torn between that and the No.1 popular one, but it turned out to be the perfect choice. It was incredibly delicious!

Long lineup on a Friday. Even longer when it's the weekend! The lineup goes across the road and you wait inside another shop. They have many different flavors of pudding. Very interesting! The main shop near the station is very busy but you can also go to the other 3 shops. I passed by the second shop on Sunday around noon and not too many people. Short lineup for a few minutes so I bought some more pudding before heading back to Tokyo.

The pudding was light but firm, a little different from the silky smooth ones that I am used to. The slightly burnt caramel drizzle on the side elevates the pudding to a new level.

Atami Ropeway

Mountain cable car
Ascend to the hilltop of Atami City by taking a ride on the Atami Ropeway, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, Sagami Bay, and the lush green mountain ranges of the Izu Peninsula. Once at the summit observation deck, indulge in some soft-serve ice cream at Umi Sora Cafe before exploring attractions like Atami Castle and Atami Trick Museum.
The ropeway may look basic and worn out, but being Japanese, it still functions well. It's the most convenient way to reach the top of the hill and enjoy the view of Atami castle and other attractions. Opting for the packaged ticket that includes admission to the adult museum helps you save money, and I recommend it if you're interested in exploring some explicit content. Overall, a good experience that won't break the bank.
Faisal D — Google review
Other than going up for the view...I don't know if it's worth the inconvenient wait. The queue for the ropeway ticket was a few hundred people. I queued for more than half an hour and still not at the ticket counter. There are no ticket vending machines, and only ONE counter open for ticketing. Very inefficient system.
EdLaine O — Google review
They have stated it’s the shortest ropeway and since most shops do not open till about 10-11am we decided to go for it. It’s only a 2min ride leading to a fantastic sea view on the hilltop. An adult museum and Atami theme park castle which we never visited. The ropeway is old and surrounding facade look tired but there is a rustic charm. We find the port interesting leading to a lemon island also.
YL — Google review
It is dated and short ride. However, it is the only way up to Atami castle and great view of Atami. It is pretty $$, 900 for adults and 500 for kids round trip. The ride only last 2.5 mins.

It was a short ride but fun. I didnt like my wife and I having to wait 20 to 30 minutes for a que (line of people) to buildup. The cart could have been up and back down like 5 or 6 times by then and so having to wait did nothing but waste our time.
John M — Google review
We tried the Atami Ropeway since there isn’t much else to do around town and the price seemed fair. The ride is super short — less than 2 minutes — and runs every 15–20 minutes (or when there are enough people). Make sure to grab a good spot for the best sea and mountain views, especially on a cloudy day! It’s also the easiest way to reach Atami Castle.
BlackbeardxZoro — Google review
I took the Atami Ropeway to get to Atami Castle quickly, but it ended much faster than I expected. The facility itself is a bit run-down, but it's not in a dangerous condition. It seems to have no purpose other than for going to Atami Castle."

We were looking for a good place for lunch with local seafood. This hit the spot with a selection of fresh fish from the area. The floor seating is a bit cramped and my grilled fish a bit salty, but otherwise, highly recommendable. We also saw that recently retired Sumo Yokozuna Kisenosato has eaten here...based on the healthy volume of servings, we can understand why!

Very good restaurant. You can order a set including roast fish, rice, soup and other food. It’s delicious. The master is nice. You can even ask for another bowl of rice for free. (I forgot to take photos until I had taken a bite🥲

(Translated by Google) I had my long-awaited seafood bowl at Kaizo, which is located close to Atami Station! The shop is on the second floor, and when you go up the stairs you'll find yourself in a small but warm space. There are counter seats and table seats, and the atmosphere is comfortable even for solo customers. Now, the long-awaited seafood bowl. The moment I opened the lid, I couldn't help but let out a cheer. The fresh and colorful seafood sparkles like jewels. Tuna, salmon, shrimp, squid, and perhaps fresh local fish, as well as some beautiful white fish I've never seen before. All the sashimi was extremely fresh and seemed to melt in your mouth. What particularly impressed me was the plump texture of the horse mackerel and its elegant sweetness. It was completely different from the horse mackerel I usually eat, and I couldn't help but groan. The seasoning of the vinegared rice is also exquisite and brings out the flavor of the seafood. The portion was perfect and I enjoyed every last bite. The miso soup also has a strong dashi stock and a soothing taste. The staff was polite and had a warm smile that left an impression on me. He explained the dishes in detail, which made it even more delicious. It was such a wonderful seafood bowl that I would definitely want to stop by again when I visit Atami. This restaurant is highly recommended for those who want to enjoy fresh seafood. Thank you for the meal! I stopped by on a Sunday at 2pm, and somehow the counter was free and I was able to sit in without having to wait. The restaurant was full of young people. I ordered the three-color bowl I was looking for. It consisted of three types of rice: raw whitebait, boiled whitebait, and sakura shrimp. I wonder if the chef cooks everything by himself? Since it was a bowl, it didn't take long to be served. It was very delicious. The whitebait was on tap. I'm glad I went. I ordered the seafood bowl that I was looking forward to, and also the tuna salmon roe bowl. First of all, it looks very gorgeous and appetizing! All of the seafood bowls I received were fresh and plump! It was topped with plenty of seasonal seafood, including tuna, salmon, squid, octopus, and shrimp, which would have been caught that day. The scent of the ocean spread in my mouth, and I was able to truly enjoy the seafood. I received a piece of the tuna salmon roe bowl that my friend ordered, and the rich flavor of the red tuna and the saltiness of the bursting salmon roe were a perfect balance. There is no doubt that the meal will go well. Both bowls had just the right amount of vinegared rice, and were delicious from start to finish. The atmosphere of the store was lively and the staff were kind. If you're looking for a delicious seafood bowl in Atami, we highly recommend this restaurant. Thank you for the meal! Soba noodle shop
Nijo Shinmachi Soba no Bo is a serene restaurant that serves delectable soba noodles, accompanied by shrimp and sake. The ambiance of the establishment creates a tranquil atmosphere for patrons to enjoy their meals. The transparent white dew of the soba broth provides a refreshing flavor that is well-liked by customers. The addition of grated and raw shichimi spices adds an extra dimension to the taste experience.
Homemade 100% buckwheat noodles. Good bite and lots of sauce choices. Hot and cold. Expect to wait up to an hour on weekends so sign up when you arrive. You can track your position by an app. Traditional building.

1)Restaurant Features Soba noodle restaurant on the premises of MOA Art Museum. Located in a space that was moved from the residence of Japanese painter Korin Ogata, it has a tasteful atmosphere. The soba noodles are Togakushi soba. 2) How to order: Order directly from the staff. 3) Method of payment In addition to cash, credit cards and PayPay are accepted. ◎Shiryuro Zaru The soba sauce is cold broth seasoned with salt, which allows you to taste the flavor of soba more directly. You can enjoy it with spicy daikon radish and fresh shichimi (seven spice flavors) to change the taste and eat as much as you like. Sakuraebi Kakiage (Deep Fried Sakura Shrimp) This is a Shizuoka specialty, deep fried sakura shrimps. The crispy texture and savory flavor are delicious.

My wife and visited this soba place in MOA museum today. We paid the entrance ticket to MOA just to have a lunch there because we want to find a good restaurants near the area. The first impressions was not good, we were asked to wait outside albeit the restaurant is not full at the time we entered. Plus, we were asked to decided the order before even entering, and the menu has no photos. While we were still thinking, the waitress impatiently walked away. I am never a person who is picky on service so long as the food is good. However this one was certainly a big surprise for me to encounter in Japan. Even though we didn’t feel welcome but since we already paid the entrance ticket to MOA, we still entered to find out the quality of their soba. Aside from this not too pleasant first impression, the kake soba I ordered was pretty good. The sakuraebi kakiage was also quite tasty, a good match for my warm soba. My wife ordered a special soba with three kinds of soup. It was also quite tasty. The standard was not as good as some of the best soba restaurants I tried in Tokyo, but is still a good one to try during your visit to MOA museum, but certainly don’t be like us to buy a entrance ticket just to dine at this restaurant.

My family living abroad had a regrettable experience at this soba restaurant, enduring the scorching sun while waiting outside. It was disheartening that the staff seemed indifferent to the customers' discomfort and treated us more like their own employees. Once we finally got inside, we were met with a complete lack of greeting and were left clueless about where to sit. When we politely inquired about a menu with photo descriptions for the kids, the response from the staff was rather brusque - a simple "NO." It was only after noticing my disappointment that she mentioned there was an English menu available. Throughout the experience, the staff displayed persistent impatience and unprofessional behavior. Thankfully, some of the male and other staff members stepped in to assist us; otherwise, I would have seriously considered leaving the restaurant without placing an order. The meal itself is good, but if such service remains unchanged, it's impossible for us to visit again.

Seafood restaurant
Maguroya is a lively destination with a down-to-earth vibe that offers traditional seafood delicacies. Conveniently situated across from Atami Station, this establishment may have a waitlist due to its popularity. It is advisable to accompany someone fluent in Japanese as there is no English menu available. Despite the potential wait, the restaurant's affordable prices are well worth it for their incredibly delectable cuisine.
We got here 30 min before opening and were the 3rd customer so didn’t have to wait much. The maguro-don was amazing and great price to match. Definitely recommend but I suppose plan accordingly because I hear the wait time can be long sometimes.

Decided to try this restaurant due to its high score in google map. While waiting for the meal, I saw a spider and a fly of thumb size dancing on the bar table. Ordered a sashimi set 刺身定食, tuna sashimi set マグロ刺身定食 and an assorted sashimi 四点刺身盛り合わせ, and a lemon highball. All sashimi were lacking texture and way too soft, yet they had no strange smell. Accidentally found a piece of plastic in sashimi while chewing. The miso soup was with a fish bone and was so-so. Total ¥4300 for 2 people. The service was okay. Overrated restaurant.

Went to try some local seafood, in this case tuna, and wasn’t disappointed. I ordered a five-type tuna set and all of them were excellent. It was a shame we were in a hurry, but the food was great. During a weekday before 12 we had three people ahead of us in line, so had to wait up to 20 minutes to go in.

Easily accessible from Atami Station, as this place is in the building that is located in front of the station. Since the restaurant is very popular, it may take some time to wait before you can get in, and do not forget to write down your name on the waiting list. The foods are very reasonable price regarding its extremely delicious taste. Though there is no English menu, so it is recommended to go here with someone who understands Japanese and able to explain about the dishes.

Parks
Nestled between the scenic routes of Shuzenji Onsen and Heda, Shuzenji Niji-no-Sato is a delightful flower-themed park that offers an enchanting blend of nature and nostalgia. Visitors can hop aboard vintage-style coaches pulled by charming miniature steam engines, making for a whimsical ride through the lush landscape. The park is particularly stunning in autumn when the foliage transforms into vibrant shades of gold and copper, beautifully illuminated at night for a magical experience.
Mysterious, shabby, atmospheric theme park filled with exciting buildings and gardens. It feels like it has seen better days, which gives it much of its charm, but there’s so much to see, including a toy museum, kaleidoscope museum, Canadian village, English village, magical gardens that are well planted and maintained, great vernacular/ traditional buildings, paper making workshop, mask Museum…. Highly recommend.

Very helpful that you can bring your cats and dogs with you and the establishment is quite big there are so many places where you could walk to and spend time and you could and also should bring your own food and spend here the whole day. We didn't even manage to see half of it. And then if there are no clouds you will be able to have wonderful views of Mount Fuji however even on a fully sunny day Mount Fuji will still find a bunch of clouds just around itself so that you can see it. If it is important to you make sure to check on the website for the Fuji visibility since it is quite accurate. They serve food but would not recommend Canada village because they didn't put the effort to join the travel coupon Grant and you cannot use your coupons there only at English village Costa coffee. Speaking of that the lady from the British double decker bus Costa coffee was so friendly and nice and understanding and helpful we liked her a lot and also the fact that we could use our travel points there and her pasta being half of expensive as the one in Canada village. There is also a Rose garden with standard basic Rose types, beautiful Japanese garden with pond and traditional arched bridge and there's a road to this park the rooms where Soseki a famous Japanese novelist used to stay and write his books and have a memorial of it where you can get inside and see how it was long ago. For every season they have the seasonal flowers blooming hydrangea wisteria Iris cherry blossom and the red Autumn leaves. In Winter they organize very extensive illuminations scattered in the park but they charge quite much for that entrance ticket and you cannot stay with your daytime ticket you have to get out and buy a new one which is very not practical crazy expensive. It's a small train riding around the park however you have to pay extra for that one too. Toilets are for free though 😂. They have thatched roof old type of buildings and American-Indian village and if Lucky Mount Fuji can be photographed in many places they have installations for your selfie taking operation and even have poles where you could insert your phone and use a self timer to take your selfies.

Speaking of the tourist destination of Shuzenji in Izu, it was "Niji no Sato". I was looking forward to paying the entrance fee and entering the park. The parking lot was also charged. There were very few customers. Are there few flowers blooming in June? The park is very large, but there are very few attractions. If you look forward to seeing the beautiful flowers, you will be disappointed. I simply go to enjoy nature, so if you have one, it would be a good place to take a walk. Several shops were closed, probably because there were few customers. That's too bad.

A very well designed and built UK theme park. I think it’s actually very well done. It may be a little old but I think it is still very aesthetically pleasing. It can be a little creepy because there are very few people around (maybe because of COVID-19). But I am sure when it is during its peak period, it could be more fun. This park is MASSIVE and you should allocated minimally 2-3 hours if you really want to explore the whole park. There is even a view point to see Mt Fuji. There are a lot of food stalls all over the park so you don’t have to worry about being hungry or thirsty. I would definitely go back again if I were to be at this area.

I really enjoyed my trip here. We went there the morning after a big typhoon and so there weren’t many people. If you don’t like bugs or being in nature I don’t recommend it. We started the day on the train and went to the Canadian village where we enjoyed the kaleidoscope museum and learning about their sister city. Next, we walked through the fairy and Japanese garden to go up to the craft village. We had so much fun making a name plate and wine holder. The lady there was so kind and encouraging. Unforgettable experience. It could be expensive, my name plate was around 2000 yen, but if you pick a smaller plate and do just your name I think you could make it for only around 1000 yen. The views were very nice from the village and I fell into the koi pond at the Japanese garden lol. We had so much fun at a restaurant in the Izu village! The British village definitely seemed the most worn out but I think it was fun. Price wise I guess it could be expensive for a place that not even everything is open and stuff. I didn’t think the walk around was that long at all as there were various things to see and do along the way. Walk through the garden to get from one side to another and not on the road. I think that many places need improvement and we’re not the cleanest but it is an old place. If you just namedrop a nearby ryokan like arai they will give you a 400 yen discount lol. For 800 yen I definitely think it was worth it but you have to consider; do you like walking around in nature? Do you mind older facilities? Do you mind dropping money on various things here and there? If you prepare your mind accordingly I think you can have a great time.

Nestled along the serene Katsura River, Tokko no Yu is a charming public footbath that offers visitors a unique experience of naturally heated spring water. This open-air oasis is steeped in history, with legends tracing back to the Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi, who is said to have created this hot spring by striking a rock with his walking stick.
You can visit and use this free hot spring at night. There was no one there at 7:00 PM, and the calmness and tranquility were exceptional. Don’t forget to bring your own towel.
Dima B — Google review
This historic onsen embodies the soul of Shuzenji, where natural thermal springs have been cherished since the 9th century. According to legend, the great Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi struck the ground here with his tokko (ritual implement), causing the first hot spring to gush forth - giving the baths their name and sacred reputation. The Experience: • Traditional wooden architecture that has welcomed bathers for generations • Waters particularly valued for their skin-smoothing properties • Peaceful garden views from the bathing areas While not luxurious by modern standards, Tokko no Yu offers something rarer - an authentic connection to Japan's onsen traditions. The adjacent free foot bath (ashiyu) lets passersby sample the waters, continuing the communal spirit that has defined this spot for over 1,200 years. More than just a bath, it's a living piece of Izu's cultural heritage. Tip: Visit early morning when steam rises dramatically from the waters. The nearby Tokko-no-Yu Chaya serves excellent post-bath matcha. Historical Note: Heian-period aristocrats and Edo-era samurai all made pilgrimages to these waters, believing in their restorative powers. The current building preserves design elements from Meiji-era renovations. Perfect for: • Onsen traditionalists • History enthusiasts • Those seeking the "real Japan" beyond tourist spots • Walking tours of Shuzenji's spiritual sites

One out of seven very historical onsen in this town. Nice to imagine how people were taking a bath here several hundred years ago! When we visited the place, there were signs mentioning to „not touch the water“. So just for watching. But there is a foot bath right next to it, which you can use for free. Get I and enjoy!

At this time of year, Christmas 🎄, New Year 🎍, calendars, etc. are prominent. Daiso has a wide variety of other products and is easy to shop at.The parking lot is quite spacious!

Beaches
Nagahama Seaside Park is a hidden gem in the northern part of Izu, offering a beautiful beach with calm waters and lifeguards on duty. It's conveniently located just a 5-10 minute walk from Izu-Taga station and features excellent facilities, including a nearby cafe and rentals. The park also boasts a cute playground for children and designated swimming areas for different age groups.
Visit back in Oct 2022 -- it was the pit-stop for the kids to have their playtime after checking-out from Atami and on our way to Mt. Omuro. The play area is large with great variety for kids under 3s and those older ones. It's cute that some play equipment is ocean theme too -- can you see the whale?? :D It's also nice how it is situated by the beach....so I can imagine what a fun family day it would be during hot & comfortable (not blazing hot/humid) days!! I also found out there's a pudding dessert shop just across the street too - that's on my list to try next time.

This beach is quieter than Atami Sun Beach. There are docks in the water that you can swim out to and rest on. There are showers, toilets, and a snack bar nearby. I enjoyed how quiet and relaxing the beach was.

Free parking. Spacious playground and beach. Sometimes there are events that serve various local food.

Many different play structures for different ages Access down to the water A large green space for sport and more Plenty of free car parking

Visited on January 1st. Nice contrast to Tokyo, was very sunny and unseasonably warm (15C) with beautiful calm water. Good place to take a few pictures of the sea and mountains.

Saturday markets with food and music. Nice beach, has changing rooms. Across road from the desert shop everyone tries to find (the less busy branch).

I went to the beach on 29th August, it was not much crowded and the waves were good enough to take a dive in the beach. It is 5-7 mins walk from Izu-Taga station. There is a beautiful cafe near by and they have rentals as well. It is 10 mins by train from Atami station and one can take the green car which costs 800 yens more from Tokyo to Atami. On the whole it was a hidden gem for me, liked it much more than Atami beach.

Cute park with fun palyground equipment for 11 or 12 years old and under. There's a designated area for 3 and under as well. The beach was pleasant, though too cold for swimming early spring. The south parking lot closed at 1700, which seemed a little early, but it still gets dark kind of early here, too, so perhaps that is reasonable for now.

Ramen restaurant
Spacious ramen restaurant which serves tonkatsu style ramen. The ramen will cost about 800 yen on average. I ordered the Kuro Umai ramen for 850 yen, the broth was thick and had a great garlic taste. The regular tonkatsu ramen costs 750 yen and you can get a refill of noodles (kae-dama) for free. There is also gyozo and fried rice on the menu as well. The restaurant is right across Nagahama beach and there is a nice view of the beach.

Non-smoking restaurant, appropriate social distancing even between counter seats for solo diners. The ramen is tasty, you can pick the firmness of the noodles, the amount of flavoring and oil, etc. Open until 21:00! They also have a happy hour from 17 to 19 with 250 yen beer.

Fantastic ramen and gyoza! Highly recommend the Miso ramen it was absolutely delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. If you go during happy hour from 5-7pm, draft beers are ¥250. Made our night!

OMG! You gotta try their Raman if you are near by! I love their soup and I recommend their thin noodles. The staffs are younger and full of energy. They are mostly super kind and happy. I highly recommend this place! Don’t miss out!

Unagi restaurant
Unashige is a renowned restaurant in Mishima, Japan, offering a variety of delectable eel-based dishes. Their menu includes flavorful eel soups, deep-fried eel spines, and the unique ishiyaki-style cooking over hot stones. The artisanal preparation of unagi (eel) at Unashige provides an amazing taste that is exclusive to Japan. Despite their unusual appearance, the deep-fried eel spines are surprisingly crispy and delicious.
Amazing Unagi! Highly recommend.

10/10 would come again The Eel was flavorful without being salty, best eel rice I've ever tasted, I always thought grilled eel was too saucy and salty, be this really made me change my mind; and the tempura was such a steal, a plate for 800 yen.

(Translated by Google) I visited at 11:00 on a public holiday. I was able to enter without having to wait in line. The restaurant is spacious and the turnover rate seemed to be fairly good. This time, I ordered the special unaju (eel rice bowl) for 5,000 yen. It was served about 15 minutes after I ordered. The sauce was a little light, allowing me to enjoy the flavor of the ingredients. The eel was thick and plump, and of high quality, so it was delicious. It's difficult to get to without a car, but I would definitely like to go again if I have the opportunity.
