Museums
Perched on a hilltop, MOA Museum of Art offers a captivating experience with its collection of over 3,500 East Asian art pieces, including national treasures and significant cultural assets. The museum boasts stunning panoramic views of Atami and the sea from its main lobby and MOA Plaza. Visitors can also unwind in the tranquil Ippakuan Tearoom while savoring Japanese confections and matcha tea amidst the beauty of a traditional Japanese garden.
MOA Art Museum 8.5/10 1) Access from Tokyo Take the Tokaido Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Atami Station and get off at Atami Station, about 40 minutes. From Atami Station, get off at the last stop of the bus bound for MOA Museum of Art building, and it takes about 10 minutes. 2) Cost 9,000 yen for transportation, 2,000 yen for admission fee 3) Review The museum is located on a hill in Atami. The founder, Mokichi Okada, was a religious man, but he originally wanted to pursue a career in art and has a deep knowledge of it. After taking a bus to the top of the hill, visitors can take an escalator up to the top of the hill, where they are surprised to find that the facility is much larger than they expected and imagined. Although it is an art museum, it also has a Noh theater within the facility, where Noh performances are held. In front of the Noh theater, there is a video showing the secrets of the Noh theater, which is very interesting. The golden tea room where Toyotomi Hideyoshi entertained the emperor of the time has been recreated, and a calligraphy by Toyotomi Hideyori gives visitors a sense of history. In addition, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Sagami Bay and be dazzled by the beauty of Atami. There are too many spots to enjoy before entering the exhibition rooms! The July 25 exhibition is an exhibition of works by Japanese living national treasures. The transparency of the glass in the exhibition room is so amazing that you cannot tell that there is glass between you and the exhibits at all, allowing you to concentrate on the artwork. A wonderful project and environment that shows the excellence of the works of the living national treasures. The facility has French, Japanese, Soba, and coffee shops to satisfy your lunch needs.

Small museum on top of a hill. The museum has 3 floors and you an get here by bus. There's a bunch of escalators to the top. We had a rental car so we parked on the 3rd floor. Also saw a bunch of taxis. So I would advies to take one of those options and don't try to walk. The museum itself is nice. There are a lot of woodblockprints and a golden tea room. The garden outside had nice views if the bay below. They also have a small bamboo grove and a few old tea house that were eithere rebuilt or relocated to this area.
Matthijs — Google review
The view from the museum is beautiful🥰 Thankfully the coin lockers here are free of charge, meaning I can enjoy the space without my bags. The exhibition I went to was super interesting, scrolls about a fantastical tragic love story from ancient times. The glass was so clear that I sometimes forget about it, and when you take pictures there's no reflection. The outside Japanese garden is also fun to walk around. Would spend about 2-3 hours here, if you don't sit down and eat.
許有宜 — Google review
Please remember that most of the art here is Japanese art, not Contemporary art. The building is amazing and the escalator ride is a piece of art in itself.
C F — Google review
The MOA is meticulously prepared and cared about museum. The current exhibit (Rinpa) was nicely detailed with English translation. Every detail was perfect. We also enjoyed the view from the cafe and walking through the japanese garden. There is a direct bus from Atami Station (Stop 8) and you can buy tickets at the entrance. There are coin lockers.
Léo P — Google review
Interesting 20th century scroll paintings, ceramics, and basket art. There is a beautiful garden with a teahouse serving Japanese food. There is a shuttle from the train station. Then you go up 7 escalators to reach the museum. There is a colourful ceiling that changes like a kaleidoscope.
Kaye H — Google review
It’s so lovely. Ride up in a cab and walk down. It’s got great view of the bay and city. So many national treasures. I recommend even if you’re a total meathead with zero culture or appreciation of art because it’s got cool escalators.
Scot R — Google review
This is one of those musuems where every part of the musuem architecture is thoughtfully designed and works of art in their own right. I found myself stopping at random points in hallways and doorways, admiring the tasteful thought put into it. The museum sits on top of a steep hill above Atami city, and can be accessed by driving or public bus. The viewing gallery near the entrance provides a paranmoc view of Atami, the sea and the museum compound. There are permanent galleries housing collections of mainly Japanese paintings, pottery and crafts.

Atami Castle, perched atop Nishikigaura in Atami City, is a unique tourist attraction replicating the look of a traditional castle tower. Built in 1959, it offers diverse attractions such as an exhibition on Japan's castles and a 360-degree panoramic view from the top floor. Visitors can also enjoy a jet foot bath on the first-floor balcony while taking in magnificent views, especially during cherry blossom season.
Not a traditional castle but still a great experience. Amazing views at the top. There was a samurai museum in the first floor and an arcade below. Lovely cafe of the cliff adjacent
Phoebe E — Google review
The view from this tourist castle is nice. And the samurai museum is cool. But remember this was created I the 1950's to attract tourists so it's not a real castle. There's plenty of parking if you drive right up to the castle.
Matthijs — Google review
This place was built solely for the purpose of sucking in tourists. For eleven months, I have been looking at it from my balcony on the other side of the harbor. This morning, I peddled my bicycle up there. It was good exercise and little else.
Howard B — Google review
Even though it's an old Japanese-style castle, I wondered why the inside wasn't cramped, and it seems to be because the building was constructed in 1958. Floors 1 to 5 are museums, and the 6th floor is an observation deck. The first basement floor had a free arcade, which I really liked because unlike the arcades outside where you have to insert a coin every time you die in a game, here you could play the arcade machines for free without limit.
최선홍 — Google review
We really enjoyed all of the model's and history of japanese castles. The views are stunning. Taking the rope way up is very unique. Skip the 3rd floor folks...If there's a trap... it's this one
Dave N — Google review
Very crowded, but beautiful castle. In the inside there is nothing much, but the view from the top floor is spectacular. The souvenir shop is ok. The worst thing is the location - very incovienent for people who don't have car. From the bus stop it's still 15 minutes walk uphill, very steep. Local bus is unreliable, today it was delayed by 40 minutes. You have to wait for the bus at the edge of a busy road, next to a tunnel. You can of course go to the castle by ropeway, but it's very expensive and you still have to walk uphill. In front of castle is a cafe, restaurant and a lot of small stalls. Overall, it's an interesting structure, but I wouldn't visit it again because of the inconvenience.
Stella R — Google review
I'm a foreigner from the USA visiting. I enjoyed Atami castle. It was clean and there were many interesting exhibits. My favorites were the miniature buildings depicting battles from old times. And there was enough of a mixture of things to do to keep the whole family interested in something including the children who might want to just play the arcade games while the adults explore. Very fun experience. Though I was really interested in learning of the history of Atami.
John M — Google review
Interesting experience. Small but something to see on each of the 6 floors + a basement with an arcade. I wish we had our kids because I think they would enjoy the interactiveness- there was the arcade of course, a sword to hold in the samurai museum, some old games to test before you buy at the souvenir shop and plenty of fun photo opportunities (we didnt do the trick art museum, but fun if youre into recreating funny shots like being eaten by king kong). We came when it was raining so we could only imagine the views but worth a visit if you're in Atami. We decided a 1600 yen - 9 minute taxi cab was worth it from kinomiya station.

Nestled among towering trees near Kinomiya Station, Kinomiya Shrine is an ancient and picturesque shrine with a mystical atmosphere. Accessible through a tunnel track, the shrine is home to a revered 2,000-year-old camphor tree and enshrines Isotakeru-no-Mikoto, the deity of forestry. Visitors come to pray in front of this magnificent tree, seeking blessings for longevity and strength in facing life's obstacles.
Came on a Wednesday at 9am and while there were some people there it definitely wasn't crowded like we saw around 1 or 2 pm. It is such a lovely shrine with so many little pathways - there's a path of small tori gates (only like 8), then some stairs to view the river / stream. The shrine is said to bring good fortune and luck. It's well known for its 2000 year old camphor tree, if you walk around the tree it's said to add a year to your life span. We walked around that and the smaller tree for good measure. :)
Erin T — Google review
A temple surrounded by nature. The main attraction are the 2 centuries-old trees. There are also two cafes with outdoor tables where you can enjoy nature while drinking a coffee.
Matias S — Google review
A beautiful shrine with a very old and picturesque camphor tree - walking around it is said to extend your life by one year. There was also a nice cafe on the grounds to get a nice snack or beverage. We parked at a nearby pay lot. You can get parking validated if you buy items from the shrine shop.
Michael T — Google review
Beautiful shrine and kind staff. We started our goshuinmeguri here because we loved the trees and the wooden goshuincho. Even on a very hot day, the shade and trees are cooling. As with other popular shrines, please go early in the day to avoid crowds.
Dave B — Google review
A serene shrine that’s home to a 2000 years old camphor tree which legends says will add one year of age every round you walk around it. What I like is there are phone stands in front of several photo spots for selfies and even a platform that allows people to go up to take pictures with the ancient tree up close, and also a shop for lucky charms which have a lot of different designs.
JoyC — Google review
Huge temple complex with a few different buildings and 2 very old trees (1300 and 2000 years old). There a parking lot to the right of the temple.
Matthijs — Google review
What a wonderful, beautiful, traditional shrine. The treat options were great (ice cream and sweet potato chips were absolutely stood delicious), and the staff were all extremely pleasant women. Truly a life-affirming experience 💜
Kay E — Google review
Tranquil temple filled with lush greenery that provided a cool refuge from the summer heat. The sounds of the nearby waterfall added to the serene ambience of the temple. The highlight of the temple is the ancient camphor tree which is said to add a year to your lifespan each time you circle it. What I feel the temple done weel was the inclusion of phone stands that allow visitors to take pictures at photo spots such as the camphor tree. Surprisingly, there are quite a number of modern minimalist structures in the temple, such as the cafe right by the main shrine. The temple is free to enter and was not very crowded on a late weekday afternoon when I visited.

Kiunkaku is a unique and noteworthy historical landmark in Atami that showcases a fusion of traditional and modern architecture. This villa, turned inn, offers tours of its lush Japanese garden which boasts impressive koi fish. Visitors can explore the traditional Japanese house on the premises as well. The location should be approached with care, as the glass is fragile. Kiunkaku is an attraction worth adding to any itinerary for those interested in architecture or Japanese gardens while visiting Atami.
A very nice villa in te center of Atami. It's supposed to be one of the 3 most beautiful in the region and I can see why. You can park next tot the villa. And then walk around inside to view all the different rooms. There's a nice garden as well.
Matthijs — Google review
Great historical landmark and story from the wealthy family that fulfilling their dreams to make this happen. There will be entrance fees, and need around 1 hour of the tour. Worth visiting if you have spare time.
Bossi C — Google review
Incredible historic resort, ticket is 600 yen (cash only) which is super worth it. There are so many beautiful room with Japanese and western styling, implacable solarium and garden. Highly recommend and a must see.
Simba ( — Google review
Beautiful place with a peaceful vibe. Dazai Osamu had been here, you can enter the room where he stayed at with Tomie Yamazaki. They had seat and some good place for you to stand and look around outside. Taisho vibe, an antique machiya. Price is cheap imo for a good service and splendid place.
Đoàn K — Google review
It's the place where you can plan to go for 20 minutes, and suddenly 2 hours pass by. If you want to leisurely enjoy the architecture of the luxurious former ryokan, mixing Japanese and Western styles, stretching around the beautiful garden, up to 1 hour should be enough ( especially since most information about its guests is in Japanese.) However, with the mix of luck and willingness, you can prolong the stay, making bookmarks out of pressed flowers ( 2 for 500 yen), buying a kimono or stumbling upon the touching poetry recital. There is an elegant vintage café as well. It was a perfectly spent afternoon on a rainy day.
Anytsuaf S — Google review
Nice tourist attraction in Atami. The location has really fragile glass so be aware of this if you need support walking or have kids that like to run around. The garden was beautiful & has some pretty large koi fish that must be over 50 years old.
Craig N — Google review
Beautifully preserved former residence/ryokan that hosted many famous guests such as Osamu Dazai and Yukio Mishima. It features Japanese and Western-inspired interiors, Roman-style baths and a landscape garden. It also hosts exhibitions by local artists and photographers. Despite visiting on the weekend it was not crowded at all. It is a lovely place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Atami Sun Beach is a picturesque sandy strip flanked by palm trees and resort hotels, making it a popular spot for moonlight walks and summer fireworks. Conveniently located near rental shops, main roads, and a charming marina, this beach is ideal for summer fun. Visitors can easily find nearby restaurants and convenience stores to grab a bite or bring food onto the sand. The tranquil atmosphere makes it perfect for relaxation and enjoying nature's beauty.
Watching the **Atami Sea Fireworks** was an unforgettable experience. I sat right on the beach, feeling incredibly close to the stunning display. As the fireworks burst into the dark sky, the entire region lit up, and the impact of the sound was exhilarating. The show lasted about 20 minutes, with the first minute and the last two minutes being particularly spectacular, as fireworks shot up in rapid succession. The atmosphere was electric, and I found myself completely captivated by the colors and sounds. The beach offers plenty of space for viewing, and I appreciated that it wasn’t overly crowded, possibly because the fireworks show is a monthly event. Just bring your own mat for a comfortable spot on the sand, and you’re all set. Overall, the Atami Sea Fireworks was a fantastic experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a magical evening by the sea!
Michelle H — Google review
A beach popular with locals as well as tourists to Atami. There is a breakwater promenade on the south side if the beach, hosting a pier for recreational boats, and is a nice place to sit and relax in the evenings. The sun is strongest here in the mornings, given that it faces east.
Jason — Google review
We visited Sun Beach in August 2025. Although the posted swimming hours are 9:00-16:00, in reality most continue to swim after that, just without lifeguards. The sand is soft and the water is fairly shallow and calm. It is very nice to come at night for the illuminations. There were also many families doing fireworks in the sand. There are coin lockers, toilets, showers and footwashes (free), and dumpsters on the beach for trash.
Sarah H — Google review
An amazing beach. You can play different activities here. It's perfect to have a bottle of cold beer walking on the beach in hot summer.
Man W — Google review
I went there on Friday night to see a firework show hosted by the atami city. Although I was a bit late, I still found a decent spot for photos. The Japanese people are really disciplined and polite so there wasn’t any people squishing and pushing around. The beach is also really clean with little rubbish only. There is also a small park beside it with water fountains and some nicely decorated handrails. Overall, the environment and atmosphere is amazing with great hygiene. Definitely recommend it for picnics or to have a swim. Below are some photos I took during the firework show, pls enjoy!!!☺️
A E — Google review
Awesome beach with lots of bars along the coast. Has a great view of Mt Fuji in the distance.
Dian A — Google review
Nice firework show that you can view closely on the beach, with relative not much crowd. The show lasts for around 20 minutes which is relatively short compared to other cities in Japan. It's a pity that they don't have any pop-up stores that sell food or souvenirs. Not many decent restaurants nearby too.
Victor L — Google review
Atami Sun Beach is a stunning and relaxing destination that truly captivates with its beauty. The clean, crystal-clear waters and soft, white sand create a picturesque setting reminiscent of Busan, Korea. Whether you're looking to soak up the sun or take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline, this beach offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In addition to the beach, there are plenty of other attractions nearby, making it an excellent spot for a day trip or a weekend getaway. Whether it's exploring local shops, enjoying delicious seafood, or simply taking in the views, Atami Sun Beach has something for everyone. Overall, it's certainly worth a visit for anyone seeking a relaxing beach experience! 🌴✨

The Atami Trick Art Museum is a unique and entertaining gallery featuring interactive 3D murals that are popular for creating optical-illusion photos. Visitors can enjoy exploring the small yet convenient museum, with staff on hand to assist in taking photos. The art is creative and provides multiple opportunities for visitors to capture fun and interactive images. Located close to Atami Castle, it's worth checking out if you're in the area, offering a great alternative tourist attraction option that showcases trick art creativity.
This was one of the most bizarre experiences I had here in Japan. This was a museum based on optical illusions and was full of fun photo opportunities. We were also fortunate enough to see some cherry blossoms by the entrance. There was a beautiful outlook over the ocean. If you’re in the Atami area, this spot if definitely worth checking out if you like illusions and unique places.
Jonathan L — Google review
It’s a great place for family’s or people who like taking photos. Most of the photo spots require two people at least so I would recommend going with someone. The staff were a little rude, but it could be because it was a little busy. It’s also great for rainy days and the gift shop is fairly priced. You can purchase tickets pretty easily at the front counter.
Luca — Google review
Great fun way to spend an hour with the kids. Very interactive. There are welcoming staff who show you how to interact with the displays.

We got stuck in Atami because of a typhoon so we looked up things to do in this town and the trick art museum was perfect! it was funny and right off the rip puzzles your mind with the illusions. 10 out of 10 recommend.

Atami Plum Garden is a must-visit destination, especially from January to March when it hosts a vibrant plum festival. The garden boasts 3,000 plum trees with various colors and types of blossoms. Visitors can enjoy the serene atmosphere by strolling through the park, admiring waterfalls and the Korean Garden, and visiting the memorial museum.
Cute spot with several plum and cherry blossoms blooming as of late February. Although we didn't try it, there's a small onsen to dip your feet at the top of the route. Unfortunately it was very cloudy when we went, but still a good experience. The garden is located at the top of a hill from the nearest train station. Several street food vendors available within the garden. Animal-friendly spot with several guests having leached dogs and even a leached cat.
Roberto Z — Google review
I came here end of Feb 2025 and most of the plums fully bloomed. The garden is very beautiful with scenic setting, walking trails and a small foot bath at the end of the garden. There’s a waterfall where you can go inside
Jupiter N — Google review
What a beautiful park. It's not lit up, so you want to go there during daylight hours. The museum/memorial is located within the garden and has strict opening times. While the garden is free, the memorial requires a small entry fee. We strolled around the garden in April. Water was gushing down the streams and over small falls. There are tributes to other cultures, including Korean. At this time of year, the plants and trees are blossoming. There are a number of places to sit and enjoy the ambience. A very relaxing energy. The walkways are wheel chair friendly. A few people were taking their dog for a walk. I didn't see any big dogs, though. You can get get drinks at vending machines at the entrance. Otherwise, there is a 7/11 across the road. The walk from Kinomiya train station is moderate in difficulty.

Pictures as of 22/Feb 2025. Park was bigger than expected and a great hike up if u choose to walk from the blossom bridge, I would suggest taking the bus. Visitors are plentiful but not overwhelming. Price for local residents and tourist staying in Atami is 100yen and others are 300yen.
Khai — Google review
It’s unfortunate we weren’t there for the blossoms. A wonderful way to spend 3 hours. Waterfalls, gardens, beautiful trails. Admission was only ¥100.00. You won’t be disappointed.
Richard L — Google review
I visited on 1st Feb. The plum blossoms were not in full bloom and a lot of trees were still bare, but it was still beautiful! The foot bath is very hot, so be careful if you are sensitive ~
Stella D — Google review
Not all the trees were fully in bloom, but it was still beautiful and the sweet scent filled the air was very relaxing. I didn’t expect the garden to be as large as it was, though.

Around 8 minutes by taxi from Atami station. No need to buy ticket for 梅園. Although it was raining but the 紅葉 was amazing. This place is with very good maintenance and worth to come. Ascend to the hilltop of Atami City by taking a ride on the Atami Ropeway, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, Sagami Bay, and the lush green mountain ranges of the Izu Peninsula. Once at the summit observation deck, indulge in some soft-serve ice cream at Umi Sora Cafe before exploring attractions like Atami Castle and Atami Trick Museum.
The ropeway may look basic and worn out, but being Japanese, it still functions well. It's the most convenient way to reach the top of the hill and enjoy the view of Atami castle and other attractions. Opting for the packaged ticket that includes admission to the adult museum helps you save money, and I recommend it if you're interested in exploring some explicit content. Overall, a good experience that won't break the bank.

Other than going up for the view...I don't know if it's worth the inconvenient wait. The queue for the ropeway ticket was a few hundred people. I queued for more than half an hour and still not at the ticket counter. There are no ticket vending machines, and only ONE counter open for ticketing. Very inefficient system.

They have stated it’s the shortest ropeway and since most shops do not open till about 10-11am we decided to go for it. It’s only a 2min ride leading to a fantastic sea view on the hilltop. An adult museum and Atami theme park castle which we never visited. The ropeway is old and surrounding facade look tired but there is a rustic charm. We find the port interesting leading to a lemon island also.
YL — Google review
It is dated and short ride. However, it is the only way up to Atami castle and great view of Atami. It is pretty $$, 900 for adults and 500 for kids round trip. The ride only last 2.5 mins.

View is great. Service itself is fine, just a bit dated.

It was a short ride but fun. I didnt like my wife and I having to wait 20 to 30 minutes for a que (line of people) to buildup. The cart could have been up and back down like 5 or 6 times by then and so having to wait did nothing but waste our time.
John M — Google review
We tried the Atami Ropeway since there isn’t much else to do around town and the price seemed fair. The ride is super short — less than 2 minutes — and runs every 15–20 minutes (or when there are enough people). Make sure to grab a good spot for the best sea and mountain views, especially on a cloudy day! It’s also the easiest way to reach Atami Castle.
BlackbeardxZoro — Google review
I took the Atami Ropeway to get to Atami Castle quickly, but it ended much faster than I expected. The facility itself is a bit run-down, but it's not in a dangerous condition. It seems to have no purpose other than for going to Atami Castle."

ACAO FOREST is a vast expanse of floral gardens, including a swing on the cliffside, a shrine and a cafe. It is well-known for its picturesque beauty, making it extremely popular among photographers. The aroma emanating from the flowerbeds provides an invigorating feeling to visitors. Admission fee costs 2k yen and includes transportation to the top of the garden with an option to walk back down.
Fun and joyful location to explore. The scent making workshop was very cute to do as a couple.

On the Atami hillside overlooking the Sagami Bay is a a gem of a spot where nature is nurtured to bloom. The acao forest is a collection of 12 themed gardens, art installations, shrines and one of the most stunning views of the bay especially on a clear sunny day. It is best arrive here by car and there is ample parking. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance but u save yourself 20% with an online purchase of 2000Y for entry. I recommend taking the shuttle to the top of the hill side and slowly make your way down by foot to enjoy all the gardens. At the top, it is a short hike to visit the shrine, the land art park and some of the gardens. The whole area is fun to explore and don’t forget your camera as the various cliff side views, swings, seats make for great pictures. Even in the midst of winter where the bloom is at its lowest it made for a great day out. There is a cafe cum cocktail bar near the summit and a lovely Italian restaurant at the base. Both are worth a visit just for a meal with a view!

**Land Art Park ACAO Forest** is a breathtaking hillside park perfect for sightseeing and relaxation. Spanning a vast area, it’s adorned with blooming flowers and whimsical props ideal for photo opportunities. Despite its size, the park features a convenient shuttle bus service, making it easy to explore. I recommend visiting the park before noon for the best lighting; I arrived at 3:30 PM and found the photos lacking in brightness. Fortunately, as the sun began to set, the sky transformed into a beautiful pink hue, creating a stunning backdrop for my pictures. I also had the pleasure of visiting **COEDA House**, a café designed by the renowned architect Kengo Kuma. The structure elegantly mimics the shape of a tree, harmonizing perfectly with the surrounding landscape. I enjoyed a delightful cake and coffee there, making for a truly pleasant afternoon. Overall, ACAO Forest is a must-visit for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike!

Amazing place with a spectacular view! It’s a bit on the pricey side, but the service makes it worth it—the bus driver even went out of his way to return a passenger’s lost sunglasses. It’s best to arrive early to avoid crowds and to get great photos. They even have selfie stands, which is perfect for solo travelers. Highly recommend!

A beautiful place. At the time of this review price is now ¥4,000, but it is totally worth it if you take your time. Many people just go to the spots catered for instagram, like the swing and bell, but the entire garden is beautiful and they have a herb workshop by the fountain. Take the shuttle to the top then walk down. Well with the trip.
Trevor T — Google review
When I was there in May, the rose was blooming. So pretty!! We took the shuttle bus to the top, but I enjoyed it more on the walk from the top to the entrance.
Frank X — Google review
Herb and rose garden out of nowhere. With beautiful flowers ans herbs. They have a bus to ride inside . Usually people go up the hill by bus and come down walking and enjoying views. At the top they have shrine, botanical garden and a cafe. As you stroll down you will enjoy great views and some surprises waiting for you . Cafe is nice with different pizza menu. Shop is good. For access: bus stop is just outside the garden.
Mugdha G — Google review
Ended up here by accident, but it was a beautifully maintained forest/garden. When you get there, you pay a small fee to be ridden on a bus to the top of the mountain and then you start to make your way down. It's not that bad of a climb but if you have leg problems you may want to consider taking the bus down which I saw some people do!

As you wander through the district, you'll encounter traditional Japanese scenes like dried fish hanging and quaint alleyways. The area is also known for its popular hot spring baths due to the abundance of natural hot springs in the region.
Lovely spot, so many food options bars and the best coffee in Atami.

Hihokan - Adult Museum Atami is a one-of-a-kind museum located in Atami, Japan. It offers an intriguing collection of erotic art and artifacts that provide insight into the history and culture of sexuality in Japan. The museum features interactive displays, colorful exhibits, and sculptures that tastefully celebrate human sensuality. Visitors can enjoy quirky interior designs, comedic porn vignettes, and interactive exhibits that require twisting handles and pressing buttons.
To begin with, Atami was a popular honeymoon destination. It's a museum of hidden treasures that exists precisely because it's a honeymoon destination. The treasure, after all, is children, isn't it? Sorry for this ordinary comment.

Might be funny. Educative, in a way – like "what our grandpa could consider a forbidden fruit, some sixty years ago". Less provocative then its counterpart in Amsterdam (for example). The place could still arise a schoolboy of thirteen, with hormones oozing from his ears; but alas! Kids are not admitted. While adults would hardly find the exhibition resloy exciting, just curious at the most.

It was funny to go through this area with my wife. I could see this being a fun bf/gf date (18+ or older). Some of the stuff (games) didnt work and maybe 2 attractions were down for repairs. If you're staying in the area its a fun place to stop by to pass time.

A must go in Atami. Quite interactive museum with funny 18+ interactions. Just above this place is Atami castle. Take note to take the Ropeway.. DO NOT TRUST GOOGLE MAP ON TAKING THE BUS AND STOPPING WHERE IT TELLS YOU TO STOP TO GO TO THE MUZEUM

Quite a nice view. Can overlook the whole Atami complemented by an exquisite sea view. There is a small cafe for one to grab a cool bite of ice cream, along with some fresh ice cold soda. There is also a nice seating area for people to chillax. There are also some claw machine and gambling machine, but I don't see much purpose to them. Only thing to critique is that I got electrostatics shocked by their metal fence railing overlooking the view. I don't know why that's the case, but my companions also got shocked by that same fence, hilariously. Overall, the view is nice and the ride wasn't expensive.

This is by far one of the best parks I’ve been to anywhere. If you like hiking, flowers, trees, birds, streams, views, forest smells, cleanliness, bathrooms, parking, maps, vending drink machines, etc. etc. go here! I recently discovered this park and have taken 3 different routes all amazing. On top of that there are challenging exercise courses all along the course maybe 50 or so. Warning that it’s difficult for the first half as you start below but keep in mind it’s downhill and easier on the return. If you are ambitious you can go to the observatory above the park where you will see 360% breathtaking views of the surrounding areas including Mount Fuji. I recommend the flower bed path to the top which takes you on a path perched between two gullies on the left and right beautiful. There are maps everywhere. There are a few challenging paths that include ropes and steep trails but rest assure I see 8 year old kids doing it easily. This is a popular place for families and kids and I’m am amazed how fit they all are.

Hashiri-Yu is a unique hot spring located along the Sagami sea, known for its naturally heated thermal water that flows from an underground source. This rare hot spring has been in existence for approximately 1,300 years and was named after the way it runs out towards the coast. The site offers foot baths with stunning views of the sea and is a beautiful spot that remains relatively undiscovered by many visitors.
Beautiful little spot that few people know about. It is rarely busy. It's a short 20 minute visit at most behind a group of unassuming buildings right on the ocean. It is a tunnel containing a large natural opening where you can see the source water for all of the hot springs in Atami. It's hot and steamy like a sauna so you can only be in there for 5 minutes at a time. There is a small shrine above ground to visit. It's a beautiful view and I believe there is a small restaurant/hotel right in front. It's a short drive from the center of town. Worth a stop! It's free to visit, and there is a small lot in front of the hotel to stop your car. You pretty much drive right up to it. Very little walking involved if you drive there with a car.
Mar M — Google review
A quick stop. You can just park down the stairs and walk up to check out this hot spring in a cave. It was discovered 1300 years ago. Will take you 5 minutes to see, but definitely worth it.

(Translated by Google) I visited on Sunday, April 20th. I visited seven hot springs. It is a pity that the geyser no longer erupts naturally. At Ozawa no Yu, there are two pots where you can make hot spring eggs, and I regretted bringing eggs with me. Two groups of people were using the pot and waiting for the finished product. The origin of Seizaemon no Yu is that Seizaemon fell from his horse into the hot water kettle and was burned to death, which was horrifying. Having completed seven rounds, I felt a bit of a sense of accomplishment. (Translated by Google) There are stages 1 and 2, and if you wish to continue into Stage 2 after Stage 1, you can. However, it seems that you cannot quit once you have started both stages, so be careful. Personally, Stage 2 involved some sections that required a lot of muscle and core strength, so I got a little tired, but looking back, I think it was good exercise. It was great value for money! One thing to note... There is a light zip slide(?), so your clothes may get dirty, so it might be a good idea to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Terrible reservation system, especially if you're a tourist. You need to reserve beforehand, even when there's few people, because only a tiny number of people are allowed in a time slot. It's entirely in Japanese. And you need a Japanese address. And phone number. I had all of those, and managed to enter everything in Japanese, but then simply never got a confirmation email. No way to resend it either. So I gave up, came here for nothing.

Ferro P — Google review
(Translated by Google) Three generations of parents and children participated: myself (around 40 years old), my son (5 years old, 110cm tall), and my mother (66 years old). I think the cost performance is good among the forest adventures that are available all over the place. I read a lot of reviews and couldn't find anything about a preschooler conquering the second course, so I joined with the goal of completing half of the course. However, it went more smoothly than I expected and I cleared the first stage. My mother, who decided to participate without knowing why, also whipped her old body, and was thrown off by the zip line at the end of the first stage, but it looked like it was going to be fun. What should we do? I asked my son, and he said, ``I'll do it next time!'' So I started the second stage nervously wondering if I could clear it. In the second stage, the difficulty level increases, the attractions become less fixed, and you can play at your own pace. This is more difficult for people who are heavier because the shaking is more intense. Especially 15 spider nets! I've seen similar playground equipment in parks, but the top and bottom are properly fixed, so I feel like I can climb it smoothly. I had a hard time. The child was hanging on the harness and was moving forward a little with his hands. I feel like it's cheating, but is this possible? The most difficult part was the 18th bridge. It was really difficult to move through the area where there were so many ups and downs. Here is today's biggest difficulty. Children who are unable to reach the ropes of the bridge due to their height and have to carry the harness may lose their footing at a moment's notice. However, because the course is sloped and the finish line is higher, if I let go of my foot, I would be pulled by the harness and end up going back on the course like a reverse zip 3 or 4 times, and I would be unable to proceed on my own. I realized and started crying and got stuck. Hey, hey, it's possible to retire mid-way, I thought, so I went back to my child and carried him on my back (he was floating on a harness, so he wasn't heavy) and crossed the 18th bridge. of. (There was only one person in the basic course. I judged it to be an emergency and went back to help.) It was extremely difficult. Really. My mother did her best. As long as you clear number 18, you'll be at the goal! All three of us did it! And a great sense of accomplishment! it was fun. It was a very good memory. As a result, it turned out that both parent and child are quite comfortable in high places. (I once crossed the Futen suspension bridge at Lake Sagami, but it was so high that I got scared and stopped walking.Compared to that, 7 meters was an okay height.) Other than that, I also went to VOTAN and Asian Garden, but I didn't think it was necessary to pay for either. The open-air bath was lukewarm (-☆), but I thought the view would be nice if the weather was nice. When we went ☁️ By the way, our specs are me and my mother, slow feet, average athleticism. The child has normal legs, is not afraid, but has normal motor skills. Roller coasters are the type that are too scary for children to ride.

It wasn't until I started playing that I finally understood the meaning of "I can't get out of the course midway through." The 1st grade student was 115 cm tall and barely completed the first course. We gave up on the second course, but the kids were very satisfied! It might be a good idea to bring work gloves. (Translated by Google) I took my two third-grader girls with me. It was their second time doing stage 1, but their first time doing stage 2. Stage 1 is definitely something the children can do if they want to, but stage 2 requires a certain level of determination and athletic ability, or they'll struggle. Some people give up on trying the courses and just set up zip lines for each course, which can be completed as long as you're determined. The staff were polite and communicated well with the children, so I felt they felt at ease. There were no staff supervising the athletic facilities themselves, and after an explanation it was up to each person to do their own thing...that was a bit worrying for me. The Statue of Omiya and Kan-Ichi is a well-known sculpture located conveniently near the main road. It is a popular attraction for both locals and tourists, particularly those unfamiliar with Konjiki Yasha and international visitors. The statue's commentary explicitly states that it does not endorse or promote violence. Despite its fame, some individuals may feel uneasy when viewing this artwork. Through observing the sculpture, one can gain a better understanding of the challenges faced in our complex world.

The Itokawa Promenade, also known as the Atami Cherry Blossom, is renowned for being home to one of Japan's earliest blooming cherry blossom trees. These blossoms are a unique variety that blooms about a month earlier than the Kawazuzakura and even earlier than the Someiyoshino. The deep pink petals of these cherry blossoms can be seen from late January to late February, creating a stunning sight that brings an early touch of spring to the area.
I visited Atami on February 13, 2025, and the cherry blossoms along the river were in full bloom, offering a stunning display. However, after 11 a.m., the area became quite crowded. To fully appreciate the beauty of the blossoms with fewer people around, I recommend visiting in the morning.
Sunny_ — Google review
I visited the areas on 5 Feb 25. Majority of the trees already blooming. The wind was strong and you could see flower petals flying and dropping. The flowers and flying petals were beautiful but weather was windy and cold . Wear sufficient warm clothing and wear gloves to enjoy the view and walk.

Visited on: 19 Feb 2025 Wanted to go to Kawazu but saw online that cherry blossoms haven't bloomed. Changed to Atami at the last minute after reading others' postings that the trees here have bloomed. Recommended to come in the morning to avoid the afternoon crowd.

I visited this place on 20 Feb 2025. The early blooming sakura is in full bloom. I took shinkansen from Tokyo station to Atami then take the bus from Atami station and stop at Ginza bus stop. Walked along the river lined up with cherry blossom trees. They are so pretty. This is my first time seeing cherry blossom so I was in awe. There are a lot of spots for photo options. I went there around 8am so there are not a lot of people it is very calming strolling along the river with cherry blossom trees around me. Would definitely recommend everyone to visit this place to view the early blooming Sakura and avoid the crowd in April.

Beautiful early blooming cherry trees (Atami-zakura) are lined along this small river and walking path. Located in the city center area - we parked very close by in a fee lot next to FamilyMart. We also arrived early in the morning to avoid the afternoon crowds. 🌸Half way bloomed on February 7, 2023🌸

Nestled in the charming hot spring town of Atami, Yushima Amusement Park is a delightful throwback to retro fun that appeals to both adults and children. Just a short 15-minute stroll from Atami Station, this nostalgic playground invites visitors into its warm embrace with an array of classic games like pinball and shooting galleries. The atmosphere is steeped in Showa-era charm, making it a unique spot for those looking to relive simpler times.

(Translated by Google) It was my first time visiting, and I was surprised by the intimidating attitude of the male staff member. When a family who had been there before us got angry at the way the staff member spoke to them and left, the male staff member whispered, "Don't come here, you idiots!" and continued to be intimidating to other customers afterwards... It's a shame for a shop with a retro Showa-era feel, but I think it would be better for them to close if they are making people who have come to enjoy themselves feel uncomfortable. If you want to have a fun trip, I recommend you not visit.
