*Updated – Follow-up after Hotel’s Response*
The hotel admits that stained towels and duvets were “unacceptable” and “not in line with their hygiene policy.” Yet, beyond another apology, there was no offer of compensation or concrete follow-up. So, travelers, be prepared—this so-called 4-star hotel may not meet the cleanliness standards you’d expect.
The hotel claims that the loud maintenance work at 11:00 p.m. was done by the municipal company (ACEA) and not by them. However, when I called the front desk at the time, Stephen, clearly told me it was emergency drainage work for the hotel itself. So, now it seems the hotel is trying to shift blame and provide misleading information.
Overall, the hotel’s response shows a pattern: they acknowledge the issues but offer only words, not actions. While I understand that problems can happen, true hospitality is shown by how management handles them — and in this case, it was disappointing from start to finish.**
My stay was profoundly disappointing, and I feel compelled to share my experience to prevent other travelers from being misled by the overwhelmingly positive. There is not a single aspect of my stay that reflected the standards expected of a 4-star hotel.
1. Complete Lack of Temperature Control
Guests are not permitted to regulate the air conditioning or heating within their own rooms. During my stay, nighttime temperatures dropped to 7–9°C, and the room remained uncomfortably cold throughout. The management cited “Italian government heating regulations” as the reason, which I could have understood had any alternative solution been offered. However, none was provided.
To further emphasize, I stayed in another hotel in Rome on 7th November, just a few days prior, and that property had no such issue — I was able to turn on the heating whenever I wished without any restrictions. Therefore, the explanation provided by this hotel appears to be unfounded and unjustifiable.
To make matters worse, the hotel activated the air conditioning remotely without my consent on one of the coldest mornings, when it was only 7°C outside. This action was both inappropriate and inconsiderate of guest comfort.
2. Inadequate Hot Water Supply
The water temperature never reached a proper level of warmth, remaining barely lukewarm at best. The combination of no heating and no hot water created intolerable conditions. It is simply inconceivable that such deficiencies exist in a property claiming a 4-star rating.
3. Appalling Hygiene Standards
The cleanliness of the room was equally unacceptable. A supposedly fresh bath towel contained strands of hair, and the spare duvet stored in the wardrobe had visible blood stains. They were unmistakable and entirely inconsistent with even the most basic hospitality standards.
4. Unacceptable Noise and Rude, Unhelpful Staff
As if the above were not enough, there was maintenance work taking place directly beneath my room at approximately 11 p.m. — an entirely unreasonable hour for such activity. I contacted the reception desk for assistance, and Stephen, who answered the call, was extremely unhelpful and dismissive.
He stated that it was “emergency work for the hotel” and that “nothing could be done.” He did not offer any assistance — such as proposing a room change — until I specifically asked, at which point he refused, claiming the hotel was fully booked. When I inquired about when the noise would stop, he simply said he did not know, making no effort to find out. Only after I insisted did he reluctantly speak to the workers. This attitude was wholly unacceptable and demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic customer service.
In Summary
This hotel fails on every fundamental aspect of guest comfort, safety, and hygiene. It also suffers from serious management and staff training deficiencies. Its 4-star classification is grossly misleading and should be reviewed by the relevant authorities. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this property to any traveler and strongly advise potential guests to consider alternative accommodations.
