The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater, is a monumental 3-tiered Roman amphitheater located in the center of Rome. It has stood for over 2,000 years as a symbol of Ancient Rome's architectural ingenuity and engineering advancements. This iconic structure entertained more than 50,000 spectators with gladiatorial fights, mock sea battles, and exotic animal hunts for over 400 years.
It's definitely one of the must see place. It truly stands it's popularity and what a architectural masterpiece. I would definitely recommend buying tickets in advance or best way to do is via tour guide. You would need a photo ID to enter whether you are going by yourself or through tour guide. We enjoyed the entire experience and learning about how gladiators used to use this place. Untill I visited the place I never knew it's complexity and vastness. We travelled as a family with a child. We were told not to take pram as pathways are not smooth, but it's manageable. I would definitely recommend this place.

Was a great site to see while on tour around the Eternal City. They recently cleaned the facade of the building so the stone is now clean and bright. Its usually very crowded for most of the day unless you come early in the morning. The guides were very nice and gave us a lot of cool information about the history of the Colosseum. Definitely a great place to see at least once while visiting Rome.

This was cool. As a tourist from outside Italy this was a cool thing to do. We did a tour and our tour guide was excellent, highly recommend. Our tour guide was called Valerio and he knew so much history, for any question you had he had an answer to. Highly recommend doing a tour. This was a neat part of history to see in Italy and very cool to see it in person.

This is one of the nicest places in The world. Colosseum is indeed one of list of destinations that you simply can’t missed when you are in Rome. It was one in a lifetime worth experience for me. Our tour guide (Bogdan) was fantastic. He was very informative; felt we got a lot of additional information that you wouldn't get without a good guide. He clearly has a personal interest in learning about the history of Rome, which he shared with us. He was a lot of fun and made the experience personal and throughly enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour. Thank you .

Been seeing photos and videos of this breathtaking piece of history my whole life, now was the time to see it in person. Don’t forget to go and visit it in both daylight and night cause it’s amazing in both. The light decoration is something that is spectacular in Rome in general, so don’t miss out!
Hasti R — Google review
We had a guided tour which meant we got in really quickly with no wait time. We visited 10th Nov 2025 and whilst the crowds were still quite busy, we did not get stuck in any queues. A really good experience with plenty to see and learn. Highly recommended.
Michael B — Google review
Visited Colosseum with the attic ticket and climbed to the highest view point in colosseum. Absolutely stunning views and experience looking down the whole colosseum. You will be in awe of the size of it, and just imagine how it was like , 2000 years ago. Attic ticket was very exclusive as there are very few slots and tickets kept being bought immediately after a particular time slot opened up on the official site. Suggest to monitor regularly for it. Wait was minimal as the line was short and moved quickly.
JunWei M — Google review
Verdict: great experience! You should go! We went for a night tour of the colosseum, which I had booked in advance through AirBnB or Aviator. It was kind of difficult to find the entry point as there was some construction, but eventually we (the guests) found each other and found the way in. So if it happens to you, stay calm and find your people ☺️ It was great to hear the history of the colosseum and see how much truth there is in the movies we had seen. The kids enjoyed the visit, the mystery that the nighttime brought, and they also enjoyed seeing it the next day in the daytime. The colosseum is right next to other historical sites, the Roman Forum (for which you need a ticket to enter),good food, and fresh water (a really cool thing about Rome’s history that is tangible and useful today)

Discover the wonders of Rome with Big Bus Tours, offering a convenient hop-on-hop-off experience aboard their double-decker buses. With unlimited access for 24, 48, or 72 hours, you can explore the Eternal City at your own pace. The fleet provides free Wi-Fi and a user-friendly mobile app for route information and schedules. Additionally, enjoy the flexibility of canceling tickets up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.
A great bus tour that takes you around the major sites across Rome. The buses stop off at regular stops around the city and buses are every 20 minutes or so. I bought three tickets via the app and we started our tour at the nearest bus stop to our apartment. Others make you travel to a starting location. The supporting app is excellent and shows all stops and the live location of the next bus. Headphones are free on board and you select the language you require. The guides are slightly annoying, but you do get the odd interesting fact.

Christian was amazing. He was knowledgeable about the city and helpful with planning our route to see the most sites. He was where he was supposed to be when it was time to leave even though the bus was not. He made sure we all knew what was going on and ensured we would arrive on time to the port. Only three stars due to the cluster when it was time to leave Rome… Christian gets 5 stars!
Michelle L — Google review
A great day in Rome - Christian brought us from the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas to Rome. On our way he charted a full agenda allowing us to hit all of the sites we hoped to see in a single day. We hopped on and off of the Big Bus tour. Starting at Circus Maximus we moved to the Coliseum, the Forum, Piazza Venezia, the Vatican, Castel S. Angelo, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Mouth of Truth. Along the way we enjoyed coffee and gelato. We would not have been able to see all of these sites without Christian’s suggestions - Thank you for such a great day.

The big bus tours Rome is a fantastic way to explore a city! It offers unparalleled convenience, especially for first-time visitors or those looking to hit all the major attractions without any stress. Laura is one of the best guide who gave us great suggestions about the places we visited. The ability to get on and off as many times as you like allows for a relaxed, self-paced tour. The buses are comfortable, and with an informative audio guide, you get to learn a lot about the city’s history and culture while enjoying scenic views. Plus, the routes cover all the key tourist spots, so it’s an efficient way to see the sights without worrying about navigation or transportation. Highly recommend for anyone looking to make the most of their time in a new city!

Christian our tour guide with the MSC Grandiosa was amazing! He was fluent in four languages and helped us plan our day perfectly. There is so much to see in Rome but he helped pick out some highlights and gave us perfect timings through the day so that we could keep on track and get back to our coach without missing it. Thanks to our amazing guide Christian!

Nice tour from MSC Seaview. Nice heat too😅😂. With all te perfect tips of Christian, we had a perfect view at the interesting places of Rome. Too bad that a lot was under construction at this moment.

Just finished the tour using the Big Bus Rome and my kids had a great time. We were able to see the famous sites in Rome plus the Vatican Sites all within the day. Our Tour Guide, Christian, shared a great travel hack on how to use the Hop On Hop Off Bus to maximise our time. We were able to see so much but was also able to get back on time for our bus back to our Cruise Ship MSC Grandiosa.

I cannot say enough about Big Bus tours. Not only are the ticket packages great with good options to really explore what Rome has to offer, their customer service is the best you will find out of all of the tour bus operators. Kabir was absolutely amazing in helping me and explaining everything in my package after some challenges with the other locations. I highly recommend Big Bus. You will not be disappointed.

City Sightseeing offers an unlimited hop-on hop-off pass for 1, 24, 48, or 72 hours in Italy's capital. The Red Route includes 8 stops and buses arrive every 15 minutes. While some find the buses a bit cramped like city buses, they provide interesting information and take you to key locations with discounts at select stores. Additionally, tickets can be canceled up to 24 hours before the experience for a full refund.
Buses come pretty frequently. There could be more information instead of playing classical. My gf finds it a little cramped but it's like a city bus. Information is interesting. Takes you to key locations. You get discounts to some stores.
Justin H — Google review
Bought a 48 hour pass while in Rome for 2 days. people selling tickets are not helpful once ticket is sold. I did not buy it online. Bought it from a vendor on the street. Bus stops are not near the landmarks.. you still have to walk a lot to see the focus points . Do not recommend this bus tour! Save your money!
Terri A — Google review
Worst hop on, hop off in Rome. Avoid at all cost. All the other companies have buses that comes to stop regularly except for this one. Also, they have staff literally everywhere in the streets harassing people to buy tickets even if you have already some.
Jennifer B — Google review
I've done bus tours of several cities and I can usually find something positive to say, but my experience in Rome was horrible in every way. I wish I had read reviews before spending $100.00 for our group. First, the guys on Segways claim to be authorized sellers of tickets but apparently they are not. They feed on tourist like cockroaches. The buses were of varying quality, the narrative wasn't timed well with the few sights you could see. It was generally describing something you had just passed. The staff were indifferent. There was a long wait between buses so you really never want to hop off. We were overcharged and getting that settled took a good part of one day. The reps on the street and on the buses weren't helpful so finally we were sent to the office. The representatives there seemed to understand but claimed they didn't have any authority to refund the amount due to us. After much stalling they did finally refund exactly the amount I was due, nothing else for the total run around and waste of time while on our tickets. We definitely did not get our money's worth for all of the hassle, the limited stops, the long wait times, poor narration and nonexistent customer service.
T C — Google review
Great route, clean buses, some even with an open roof. A big plus was that it was running until after 7pm. We took the last bus to get back and were hereby offered nice views of Rome by night. A big minus was the rude staff - especially when we got in the first time. The guy yelled at the bus driver, the outside staff, at us (in Italian) and threw things on the floor while getting our ticket printed. No idea what his problem was but the welcome could have definitely been a little warmer :)
Kim — Google review
I think a lot of the 1 star reviews are exaggerated from our experience. The bus is comfortable, never had to wait more than 10 minutes at a stop to hop on and even though they got busy at no point were they full. We had the 2 day ticket which was roughly €30 each and the route was very nice and takes about 2 hours. They took a 15 minute break at the bus stop but we usually had another bus there to switch to. The one and only legitimate gripe I have is that they have an audio tour rather than a guide which doesn't give as much information as I would have liked but it wasn't awful. I'd recommend as a means of transport around the sites as it's perfect for this but if you want to actually learn something you'll have to get off.
T H — Google review
Horrible horrible horrible tour company. Do not use! We paid 20 euro which is 6 euros more than the gray line hop on hop off bus just to have a covered outdoor seating area. After ten minutes on a nice comfortable bus at 3pm they decommissioned our new air conditioned bus and made us walk a quarter mile across several large streets with three small children including one who had just fallen asleep. We were deposited on an ancient bus with no air conditioning or seat belts with a motor that was so loud we couldn't even hear the audio guide (and, yes, I am young and have perfect hearing). Choose another company!!
Phaedra X — Google review
The worst of the city sightseeing bus tours I have ever done. Having done these tours in several cities throughout the world, I was expecting great things of Rome, especially given it's long and impressive history. The majority of the tour involved strange music, poor audio that ignored many of the major sights and cut out unexpectedly in the middle of the audio only to leave you frustrated. Expensive at 23 euro for the day, especially since a three day metro ticket costs only 18 euro and will allow you to explore further, both more conveniently and timely than this bus tour. Would not recommend at all.

Circus Maximus, also known as Circo Massimo, is an ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium that could accommodate 250,000 spectators. It was the first and largest of its kind in the Roman Empire. Over time, it fell into decline and served various purposes before being excavated and restored. Today, Circus Maximus is a large public park in Rome where numerous events are held. The rectangular green space offers a dog-friendly environment for leisurely walks and exploration.
No crowds, amazing to see the size of a chariot race track. Makes me wonder if they do reconstructions sometimes - that would be exceptional to watch!! Walked down the length, considering the lives lost on that land. Completely free, 95% access (not wheelchair accessible unless you're great at steep, grassy hills!!), and a couple of lovely restaurants also nearby!
K B — Google review
Nothing much here except for some historical architectures. Drop by here for a quick stop and snap the photo you want. Thereafter, move on to the farmers market where lots of rare brands and local foodstuffs are on sale.
Lucas T — Google review
Not much to see here, just at few remains at one end, but when you walk along the bottom from one end to the other, it gives you a sense of just how big the chariot races actually were. The arena used to hold an astonishing 250,000 spectators who were all drinking and betting on the outcome of the chariot races, essentially gambling on the fate of someone's life. Maybe the Roman government should consider rebuilding it with a modern twist.
Will M — Google review
The Circus Maximus in Rome is a truly magical place. Standing there today, it’s fascinating to imagine how it must have looked 2,000 years ago — the thunder of hooves, the speed of chariots, and the roar of the crowd. From Augustus’ palace on the Palatine Hill, Rome’s nobility once enjoyed a spectacular view of these thrilling races. I highly recommend visiting this historic site!
Murillo P — Google review
This was another event that a private tour would have been helpful. From what I could see at a distance, it looked quite historical and interesting. It was totally overcrowded although there was plenty of land to roam. It was quite a long walk with hilly terrain.
Pennie S — Google review
A walk through history! 🏛️🚶‍♂️ Circus Maximus may look like just a big grassy field at first, but once you realize what happened here centuries ago — epic chariot races, roaring crowds, and Roman spectacle — it really comes to life! 🐎🔥 Great spot for a peaceful walk, picnic, or just imagining ancient glory. 🌞 Would be even better with more interactive displays or AR guides. Still, a must-see in Rome! 🇮🇹✨
Gülşen ( — Google review
Circus Maximus: It’s incredible to walk around this huge open field and imagine the chariot races that once took place here. There isn’t much left to see structurally, but the history is all around you, and the view from the top of the hill is worth the stop.

Vatican City, a Catholic city-state and the residence of the Pope, is renowned for its Sistine Chapel frescoes and St. Peter’s Basilica. Visiting the Vatican Scavi can be challenging due to bureaucratic hurdles, but it's a rewarding experience for those who manage to gain access. Also known as the Vatican Necropolis or The Tomb of the Dead, this area was discovered beneath St. Peter’s Basilica in the 1940s during excavations commissioned by the Vatican.

Long-standing tour company chain offering a variety of city tours by bus throughout North America.
We took hop on bus on 7/23 in the afternoon because my feet hurt after a whole day walking with 97F crazy heat. We downloaded the City Tour App and it gave us a real time bus location. So, we just wait in the hotel room until the bus is nearby and hop on. The App is handy to prevent waiting in a sunny no shade bus station. The sunset bus tour with breezing winds were pleasant.

Used the Hop on Hop off Bus 3 day ticket. Right amount of time for route.... But hard to get to a starting point from some hotels. Always got on next bus (not overcrowded).

A friend did not show up at the airport for my trip to Italy and it's been difficult. Enrico was a great guide who went out of his way not just for the groups of people but for me as well to make sure we were doing well . Even though the weather didn't cooperate the kindness and care was very appreciated. I did the tour of Capri Aug 24th

We just came off a tour to Pompeii with Michela as our tour guide. She was awesome! She was very precise, we were never lost. She gave us great suggestions for dinner and things to see. She announced our 3 year wedding anniversary over the bus PA system, that was very nice. Thank you from Michele and Valeria!!

I recently completed a week long trip to Rome, my first time traveling abroad solo since 2004. I noticed that GrayLine Rome had an interesting assortment of tours, including excursions outside of the city. I booked 3 separate tours with them: one of the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine Hill, one of the Vatican Museums/Sistine Chapel, and one day trip to the island of Capri. All three of these tours were outstanding. Especially if you love history, this is a great company to book with. Our guide Rita during the Vatican tour was so personable and organized, and even managed to get us in to see the basilica, which was not included in the original reservation. For the Capri trip, guide Rosella was multilingual and just so charming and welcoming, she even played classic Italian songs for us on the bus coming back into the city. Thank you GrayLine for making everything so smooth, this was a trip I will never forget thanks to your services!

We recently used a hop on hop off bus in Rome, and it was an amazing experience! Our guide Mohammad Sanafi (not sure of his name) was very kind. The bus had a nice view, and the audio guide was also nice.

Ok we bought a 48 hours. Started our tour from Vatican line at 4:40 station. It's 5:33 and we are still waiting. At least 3 buses from each company came and left. They have no operator in the station. Sucks big time. Update: other companies operator came and told us it's not coming for the day. We are leaving to get a taxi. 1hr 10 minutes of our precious time at Rome

Trevi Fountain is a stunning rococo fountain in Rome, designed by Nicola Salvi and completed in 1762. The fountain features sculpted figures and is fed by an aqueduct. Its dramatic design includes an imperious sculpture of Oceanus commanding rushing waters. The location of the fountain adds to its unique drama, as it is squeezed into the confluence of three streets, which may have inspired its name 'Trevi' from 'tre vie.'

Absolutely Magical — A Roman Must-See The Trevi Fountain is every bit as stunning as people say—maybe even more. The moment you turn the corner and see it, the whole scene feels like a movie. The sound of the water, the incredible sculptures, the glow of the marble… it’s pure Roman magic. Yes, it gets crowded, but the atmosphere is part of the charm. Everyone is excited, tossing coins and making little wishes. I threw my coin in too—because who doesn’t want to come back to Rome? If you want the best experience, visit early in the morning or late at night. In the evening, the fountain lights make it look even more beautiful, and the crowds are calmer. Perfect for photos and just taking in the moment. Whether you’re in Rome for a day or a week, the Trevi Fountain is a must. It’s one of those places that reminds you why people fall in love with this city.
Aida B — Google review
Crowded as usual! Best time to visit is early morning. Free entry queue to walk up till the fountain and throwing the coin. The streets are cobbled and might be tough to take strollers but many can manage if you can push nicely. A lot of cafes and gelatos near by to enjoy and spend some time.
Nagaraj T — Google review
The Trevi Fountain absolutely exceeded my expectations. Its sheer size and detail are breathtaking, especially with the sound of rushing water echoing around the square. I joined everyone in tossing a coin for luck, it’s impossible not to. Even with the crowds, the atmosphere feels magical and unmistakably Roman.
Juan T — Google review
Yes, it's beautiful, but unfortunately the chaos surrounding this place makes it much less attractive. There's so many people (like almost everywhere), it's impossible to relax and enjoy this beauty. The experience is more like: quick, let's try to make a picture and leave. While in Rome I went there several times and during several periods of the day and it was always packed. I even check the webcams once at 2am and there were still people there!
Sidónio S — Google review
Absolutely beautiful, and obviously VERY busy hot-spot for tourists! The only thing that ruins it is rude, entitled influencer/ tourists that block the visit/ view for everyone else, selfishly taking photos and selfies for over 20 minutes. However, this doesn't detract from the stunning monument and it's attraction for Rome! You can queue (average 1-1.5 hours) to get closer to the fountain if you have time.
Claireabella C — Google review
Of course it’s beautiful, the fountain is iconic and the details are incredible. But honestly, it’s almost impossible to enjoy properly because it’s always overcrowded, no matter the time or season. So many tourists push and block the view 😩 Still, worth a quick visit if you’re in Rome, just don’t expect a peaceful moment there.
Diễm L — Google review
Lot's of visitors around the place but still guards are keeping it in order and safe. It's another centrally located attraction, as many more around Rome city centre. You can use public transport of course but unless in a hurry you may better walk to the place for best experience of Rome spirit. Lovely architecture with lots of decorative details.

The Spanish Steps, also known as Scalinata della Trinita dei Monti in Italian, is a stunning 18th-century stairway located in Rome. With its unique butterfly-shaped design and 138 steps, it is a masterpiece of Roman Baroque architecture. The steps lead to the Church of Trinita dei Monti and overlook the Piazza di Spagna, where the famous Barcaccia fountain is located.
As one of Rome's most famous attractions, it's recommended to arrive in the morning. The blue sky and white clouds make for excellent photos. However, due to the large number of tourists, it's best to arrive at 9:00 at the latest. This way, you can get a photo without too many tourists. The entire attraction is not very large. Looking up, you will see the church, and below you will see the famous shopping street. You can easily spend a morning here.

I visited the Spanish Steps and really enjoyed exploring the area around them. The atmosphere was lively and full of energy, with people sitting on the steps, taking photos, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The view from the top is amazing, and the nearby streets are filled with elegant shops, cafés, and historical buildings. It’s one of those iconic spots in Rome where you can just sit, relax, and take in the charm of the city. Definitely worth a visit.

We visited the Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna, and it's every bit as iconic as you'd imagine. The atmosphere is vibrant and full of life, though it was a little crowded when we were there, which is to be expected at such a famous spot. The view from the top of the steps, looking down over the piazza and the rooftops of Rome, is absolutely stunning. At the bottom, the Fontana della Barcaccia is a beautiful and unique centerpiece. It was lovely to see people gathered around the "sinking boat" sculpture to take photos. Despite the crowds, it's one of those essential Roman experiences. Finding a spot on the steps to sit and take in the scene is a moment you won't forget. Just be prepared to share it with plenty of other admirers.
Khalid A — Google review
We visited the Spanish Steps at night, and it was very nice. The area was calm and not very crowded, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The steps were beautifully lit, creating a peaceful and romantic atmosphere far from the busy daytime scenes. It was the perfect time to take a quiet stroll, sit for a while, and admire the stunning architecture of the Trinità dei Monti church above and the charming Piazza di Spagna below. The view of the city lights in the distance added to the charm. I quickly realized how out of shape I was however. This is quite the climb. Everything was amazing however I ranked at a four because realistically its steps, there are a lot of amazing attractions and incredible architecture throughout the city. If you're in Rome, I do highly recommend visiting the Spanish Steps after dark—you get to enjoy one of the city's most iconic spots in a much more relaxed and intimate setting.

Magnificent piece of architecture. It has a great view from behind the pond. Try to go early in the day (before 7am) and you will find perfect views for pictures and to appreciate the beauty. Tourists necessarily sitting on the stairs just spoil the view. Dear tourists, once you have seen the view, please step aside and let others view and enjoy as well. On any time it is crowded but still manageable.
Adeel M — Google review
Popular location full of tourists. Lovely buildings surrounding the piazza, monument and the fountain at the bottom of the stairs. We were there during the day but I guess it would be even more spectacular at night. Especially the fountain. For best photos I think you should try shooting from bottom, behind the fountain ⛲️ From the top you can catch a good photo of that narrow street with lovely buildings on both sides.

Piazza Barberini, a charming square in Rome, is home to two stunning Baroque fountains designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The more extravagant Triton Fountain takes center stage, while the equally impressive Fountain of the Bees pays homage to the Barberini family's heraldic symbol. Conveniently located between the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, this square offers affordable cafes and restaurants for visitors to enjoy.
It was a beautiful fountain and our guide told us about the rich history and the architecture value behind the place which made us appreciate the ideas behind the actual design of the fountain and the building itself.

Beautiful fountain that is less crowded than the famous one down the road albeit this one isn't anywhere near as impressive. Worth a look as you're strolling around the city.

Piazza Barberini is one of the elegant squares of Rome, famous for the beautiful Fontana del Tritone, created by Bernini in 1643. The fountain shows the sea god Triton blowing a conch shell, a masterpiece of Baroque art. The square has always been an important crossroad in the city, surrounded by historic palaces and just a step away from Via Veneto. As a photographer, I love doing photoshoots here early in the morning when it’s quiet and the light is soft. The fountain and the atmosphere of the square make a great background for portraits and couple sessions.

The Hop on Hop off Bus Tickets are a convenient way to explore Rome, especially for those with limited time or traveling with young children. The bus provides easy access to the city's attractions, allowing visitors to hop on and off at their own pace throughout the day. With informative audio guides available, passengers can learn interesting facts about the sites while enjoying a stress-free sightseeing experience.
It was good BUT they need to be more specific where the stops are, I know it says Vatican and others popular places but it was not easy to find them.

The most horrible hop on hop off service I had experienced. Do not buy one loop ticket, as we were short in time for going out at each station, they go around streets that are on a renovation and you cannot see anything. Better walk or use public transportation- you will see more, sincerely frustrated, such a waste of time and money.
Sofiia A — Google review
I found this was a great way to get around Rome. However, it needs to be more specific about the stops. The Colosseum stop was a long way past the actual monument. Which i get cause it's busy but knowing where would be clearer. The Vatican is a good 1.5 klms from the stop, it would be impossible to get a bus closer but again clearer directions would be helpful. The Spanish Steps also was a decent walk to get there, again not accessible by a big bus. However, i was suprised to be at the top of the Spanish Steps when I got there. It's a great service and price and asking the staff at the stop was very helpful.

I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by City Tour Bus Service on September 20, 2024. My family and I, including our 5-year-old child, were dropped off at Termini Station at around 6:10 PM and were assured that 3-4 buses were following closely behind. We waited until 7:30 PM, during which no buses arrived. When they finally did, all buses terminated their service at once, leaving us stranded. This unprofessional and negligent behavior completely ruined our last day in Rome. The lack of communication and disregard for passengers’ well-being is unacceptable. We were left without any information or assistance, which is disgraceful for a company that claims to be reputable. I am furious at the way we were treated and the impact this had on our holiday. There were kids, elderly and people with disabilities all stranded but no regard at all. Totally unprofessional!!
Vinay P — Google review
If you’re looking for a creative way to spend your time in Rome not actually seeing Rome, this is perfect for you. The traffic is endless, and most of the stops are nowhere near the main attractions — so after you “hop off,” you still get a nice long walk anyway. The sellers cheerfully promise a bus every 10–20 minutes, which is adorable, because in reality, you’ll be standing there for up to an hour wondering if the company forgot about you. And when the bus finally does arrive, don’t get too excited — if a big tour group shows up, they’ll be allowed to cut right in front of you. If you dare to object, you’ll simply be told you can’t get on. So yes, technically it’s a hop-on hop-off tour… as long as you don’t mind doing most of the “hopping” on your own two feet.
Levent O — Google review
This is the worst city tour bus service I've ever used in my life. They are liars and it's extremely crowded. I definitely don't recommend it! They say we can use it until 8 pm, but I got on at 7 pm and it only stopped at stop 1. I was cheated and had to pay for a taxi to get back.
Fernando N — Google review
Here is the deal. Do this maybe early in your trip to Rome (like first day). It is only 1.5 hours but you get a whirlwind of what is out there to see and you can then go back and spend time exploring. I was skeptical, but it ended up uncovering a few gems for us we would have missed.
Don D — Google review
The buss is a whole route of adds. Went all the way to a place called "Eataly" which is fine by itself, however when the buss decides to have a 35minute break in 40 degrees (Celsius about 104 Farenheit.) That's when it becomes a problem. It basically forces you to go into the store and buy something to compensate for the time that you spend burning in the sun. I do enjoy the parts where you actually get a tour, but this ruined the whole thing for us. Especially for the families with small children who cant handle this heat for this long. Bought tickets from Greenline tours.

Hop On Hop Off Rome Tours offer a flexible way to explore the city at your own pace. You can board an open bus and enjoy commentary as you visit 10 popular stops, with the option to hop on or off at any of them within 24 hours. The tour includes a scenic sail on the Tiber River and provides opportunities for guided walks at specific locations. While some users found it convenient and enjoyable, others noted minor issues such as inaccurate online directions and occasional problems with equipment.
Great way to see all the main attractions in relative comfort. Some information but doesn't go into great detail which is disappointing. Doesn't stop very close to the attractions but they are only a few minutes walk away - apart from the Vatican City.

This hop-on hop-off bus tour is a convenient way to explore the city. As expected, it stops near major attractions, giving you ample time to wander and revisit your favorite spots before jumping back on at your leisure.

I did enjoy the experience. I would recommend getting on the bus, especially if you're new and want to see the attractions. The bus does get overcrowded at times, and the sun makes the chairs hot to sit on. Did stop near the attractions not much walking. Recommend sitting upstairs, bus came so regular so don’t stress about jumping on and off and having to waiting. Was abit pricey
Larrell — Google review
Hop on hop off has gone down. Looks like they don’t care about timings anymore. Less buses, left people waiting for 30-45 minutes at stops. I would prefer Big Bus tours as they have good frequency
Sanjib R — Google review
We wanted to try this possibility of getting to know the city because everyone has different experiences with it. We had the opportunity to go two days in a row and it was very beneficial as we found that it really depends on many factors whether the bus ride will be nice. If it's very hot, you get a bus with no windows and a roof over your head (so you get lots of fresh air and shade) and you're going at, say, lunchtime when it's less crowded - it's quite a nice ride. If you don't have a roof over the whole bus (only maybe half of it), there are windows (not all of them open) and it's crowded, you'll be swimming in your own sweat and the journey will completely overwhelm you after a few minutes. So it's very individual. As for the concept itself, where you can get on and off at the most interesting places in the city, that's great. You have the opportunity to see everything and then decide what's worth a closer look or just get a ride and soak up the atmosphere. So I'm increasingly inclined to walk in Rome as everything is close together, but for those who for some reason can't, this transport is a good solution.

Great experience! The tour guide was very nice and friendly. The only thing i suggest for the trip to Pompeii is to book the guided tour, because you can't do it on your own, trust me. The place is too big. Other that that is was nice, if you want to see a little bit of Naples and Pompeii.

Appreciate the partnership between Omnia (yellow Jubilee line) and City Sightseeing (red line) to optimize stops and attractions. Communication was clear (except for comment below), especially where to meet at the first stop and all other stops have street name to narrow down the “search”, and stops along the way are visible and logical. Some buses cover the top deck so you can still enjoy the open air without getting roasted in the 30+ degrees sun. The staff team is very helpful - both on the ground at various stops and on the bus. Driver demonstrated safety and experience (no sudden brakes). Also LOVE the ability to see real time what stop all the bus fleets are at (just with the red City Sightseeing ones though). Some newer buses have USB charging port for phone. 👌 Special call out to the Info crew across the city. They are really working hard to help you, not just for the City Sightseeing customers but others too. Please treat them well and be sure to offer them some drinks as they stand around the heat all day. ❤️ 👎 The commentary languages need a major reboot. Most advertised languages don’t work. And it is hard to hear (check out the quality of the commentary - volume and quality - on Big Bus Panoramic Tour Bus). Opportunity to improve: Most buses felt mildly cool on the ground level but could be cooler given the 30+ degrees temp. More importantly, most people leverage HOHO bus tours due to time constraints. It would be awesome if the bus could consider stopping at main attractions for 5 secs so people can just snap a pic vs missed opportunity if they don't have time to hop off to explore fully, just saying!

We were very disappointed with City Sightseeing Roma. 1. The frequency of the buses is extremely poor. We had to wait 35 minutes at Stop 8 before even boarding, and then another 40 minutes inside the bus before it finally started from Stop 1. By the time we actually got going, almost two hours had passed and we had only covered three stops. This was frustrating and a huge waste of time. 2. The audio guide was also very disappointing. Instead of informative commentary, there was mostly repetitive background music. We learned almost nothing about the attractions we were passing. In contrast, our last experience with Greyline was much better, especially with their child edition commentary, which made the tour both engaging and informative. #verydisappointedtoday

Avoid CitySightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off – Extremely Disappointing Experience We had a highly disappointing experience with the CitySightseeing hop-on hop-off service and would strongly recommend opting for Big Bus or Roma City Tour instead. Key reasons to avoid CitySightseeing: 1. Excessive Wait Times: The number of buses in operation is very limited. Although the company advertises a 20-minute frequency, actual wait times can extend up to 40 minutes. At Stop 6, we saw three Big Bus and three Roma City Tour buses pass before a single CitySightseeing bus arrived. 2. Inadequate Seating: Even when a bus finally arrives, there is no assurance of getting a seat. Buses often come already full, forcing passengers to wait for the next one and significantly delaying the journey. 3. Unprofessional Staff: We were traveling with a stroller, and despite visible space on the bus, the driver refused to let us board. No explanation was provided, and we were instructed to wait until everyone else had boarded, which was unnecessarily rude and inconvenient. Overall, the service felt poorly managed, unreliable, and customer-unfriendly. For a smoother, more enjoyable sightseeing experience in the city, we strongly recommend choosing Big Bus or Roma City Tour instead.
Vineet K — Google review
I was satisfied with the service - good way of enjoying the views of the city after long kilometers in Vatican musea and Colosseum. I have chosen this one as it stops driving later than the others. The app seems although to be a very old technology - you cannot see yourself on the map like on the other touristic maps, also tracking of the coming busses did not really work. The information in the app to check anything in advance was very limited.
Barbara S — Google review
Not the best hop on hop off. Buses much less frequent than the others. I wasn’t told that one of the stops was cancelled at the colosseum so had to walk 30 mins to the next stop. My last bus terminated at the Termini Station that I’d waited 1hr for. Big Bus or I love Rome much more frequent, I must have seen 3 of theirs arrive and leave before mine turned up. Feel robbed!
Alicia W — Google review
I purchased a Hop-On Hop-Off pass online the day before using it in Rome (Oct 19, 2025). When we went to board the bus, we were told only three stops were operating due to the Rome Marathon. There was no notice at the time of purchase or before arriving, and we only learned about the limited service at the bus stop. We couldn’t use the pass as intended and ended up walking everywhere instead. I contacted customer service for a refund, but they refused, saying the marathon was “beyond their control.” While I understand the event itself wasn’t their fault, the lack of communication and refusal to refund a service that wasn’t delivered is unacceptable. Travelers deserve transparency before buying. I wouldn’t recommend this company — at the very least, check for city events before booking, because they won’t take responsibility afterward.
Anant B — Google review
Good experience and the sights were very beautiful. However, there is a single bus line because the yellow one was the same with slight differences. In addition, the staff people weren't very helpful and they were only focus on selling new tours and didn't take care about existing customers. To be honest, our experiences in Amsterdam and Vienna were pretty better than the last time in Rome.

The Pantheon, a temple built in 118-125 A.D., is one of Rome's most iconic and well-preserved ancient Roman monuments. Originally dedicated to all deities, it now serves as a Catholic church. The structure features a dome and Renaissance tombs, including that of Raphael. Visitors are often impressed by its peculiar design, myths, and stories related to the hole in its roof and special astronomical light effects.
An amazing structure from early Roman days. Such a well preserved artefact in the heart of Rome. Although it is very busy and touristy around the pantheon most days, we would still recommend everyone to make time during their stay in Rome and visit this incredible site. The structure is truly phenomenal with such incredible detail. That it has survived for so many years is a true testament to the architecture and the build of this incredible and fascinating structure. Lineups can be long to get inside but well worth the wait. There are several wonderful little cafés in the area where you can sit and enjoy a coffee or even a beer or wine while you admire The Pantheon while enjoying a drink or a snack. We would highly recommend The Pantheon to be a part of your visit in Rome. Paul and Andrea Canada 🇨🇦

The Pantheon is an absolutely breathtaking sight from the outside. Its massive, ancient columns and the grand inscription are incredibly impressive, and it's amazing to stand in front of a structure with so much history. We unfortunately didn't get to go inside because the line was very long, wrapping around the piazza. It was a bit disappointing, but even just seeing the exterior and feeling the energy of the square was worth the visit. We'd definitely recommend seeing it, but maybe aim for an off-peak time if you want to avoid the wait and actually get inside! It's still a magnificent landmark to experience.

We didn’t go inside because the line was very long, but even just standing in front of the Pantheon was incredible. An awe-inspiring masterpiece that truly lives up to its reputation. Even with the summer crowds and a rather long queue, the wait was well worth it. The moment you step inside, the cool air, gentle light from the oculus, and perfect harmony of architecture take your breath away. Every detail tells a story of centuries past, yet the space feels timeless and alive. A must-see in Rome — both humbling and unforgettable.

Incredible historic monument. The dome is completely made of concrete! There’s a hole in the top of the dome which allows rain to come into the Pantheon! When you’re inside the dome, it feels like you are standing inside of an eye, looking through the iris, or the top of the dome. This is the resting place of the incredible artist Ascended Master Raphael! His tomb is here, and you can visit him there. This Pantheon has been made to be a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, praising our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A must visit when in Rome. An architectural masterpiece. Being incredibly well maintained, One is able to see the Pantheon as the Roman’s would have seen it in their time. Pictures don’t do it justice. I would recommend getting their early morning 9am so you beat the crowds. The audio guide (most languages) is available once you are inside. At 10 euro it is fantastic value as it gives a great understanding of all things about the Pantheon. Entry is quite cheap too, you can cover it all in an hour!

The Pantheon is an absolute masterpiece, breathtaking in every sense. The moment you step inside and look up at that majestic dome with the open oculus, you’re left in pure awe. It’s incredible to think that this structure has stood strong for nearly 2,000 years! The harmony of light, space, and symmetry is simply magical. Whether you love history, architecture, or just beauty itself — the Pantheon is a must-visit. Truly one of the most inspiring places on Earth.

St. Peter's Basilica is a Late Renaissance church designed by a team of renowned architects, including Michelangelo and Carlo Maderno. It is considered the holiest church in Christendom and one of only four Major Basilicas in the world.
Visiting St. Peter’s Basilica was one of the most breathtaking experiences of my trip to Rome and the Vatican. The sheer size, beauty, and spiritual atmosphere of this place are beyond words. From the moment you step into St. Peter’s Square and see the majestic façade and dome designed by Michelangelo, you feel you are in the presence of history and faith intertwined in the most beautiful way. Inside, every corner of the basilica is a masterpiece the marble floors, golden ceilings, and magnificent sculptures create an atmosphere of reverence and awe. The Pietà by Michelangelo is one of the most moving works of art I have ever seen, and the main altar beneath the grand dome is simply spectacular. The attention to detail in every artwork and architectural element is astonishing. If you climb to the top of the dome, the view is absolutely worth it! You can see all of Vatican City, the rooftops of Rome, and the distant hills it’s truly magical. The climb can be steep, but reaching the top and looking down at the square is an unforgettable moment. The basilica is well organized, and the staff maintain a respectful and peaceful environment. Entry is free, though lines can be long, so going early in the morning is a great idea. Overall, St. Peter’s Basilica is not just a church it’s a journey through art, history, and faith. Whether you are religious or not, this place will touch your soul with its beauty and grandeur. An absolute must-visit when in Rome or Vatican City.

Awesome and powerful!!!! The artworks and architecture leave you feeling inspired and uplifted! This place is so holy. You feel the power of God here. The building itself is an architectural marvel, and the inside is filled with incredible works of art. It’s definitely worth the trip to see it, you will be amazed. If you can handle many stairs, it is definitely worth it to go to the top of the dome. There’s an elevator to take you halfway up, but you’ll have to climb the stairs the rest of the way and it’s not an easy climb. However, the view from the top is breathtaking and you can see the entire Vatican City and Rome. Be prepared for large crowds of tourists everywhere inside and outside! I went on a weekday during off-season and it was still packed. Loved all the artwork of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ! All glory to God! Amen!

Another mind blowing historical architectural marvel! Entered via an entrance from underneath after visiting the Necropolis (did a tour, absolutely amazeballs... different review). Visited St Peter's Tomb underground (controversial but not for a google map debate ;)... thought provoking though!). Cool that I could walk 'upstairs' and see the High Alter that is situated directly above and how everything was built around the tomb after seeing the different levels below. Historically and religiously significant, beautiful, opulent. There's lots of people as expected, just like you see on YouTube lol. But its worth it, and... you're in Rome. There's lots of people. The bascillica/s were basically built to keep the remains of St Peter safe. The first bascillica was built in the 4th century and the current bascillica started in 1506 and took just over a century to build. In this timeframe 20 popes oversaw its development keeping the tomb protected. Different artistic/architectural influences over time including Michelangelo's great hand which gives you some idea of the vibe there.

Amazing basilica. Definitely worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. Amazing arhitecture, artwork, sculptures, paintings. Incredible view from the top of the dome, if you visit the basilica be sure to not miss out if you are not afraid of higts, and you are not claustrophobic because the way up tends to take you through narrow stair ways. It's an amazing place, one of a kind in the world at this magnitude. Buy tickets in advance.

The visit to Saint Peter's Basilica was a must see, especially during special religious days or events. The wait line to get in was long, but it moved fairly quickly. Security was easy to get through. Once in the Basilica you will be struck with beautiful and awe at the size, splendor, and beauty of the space. Every wall is decorated. The dome is absolutely beautiful. Even though there were many people inside there was a dedicated space for personal prayer near the front of the alter. There is so much detail and history within the walls of Saint Peter's and the Vatican. I would most definitely recommend anyone to visit Vatican City and step into the Basilica.
Matthew M — Google review
St. Peter’s Basilica is one of those rare places that completely exceeds expectations, no matter how many photos or documentaries you’ve seen before visiting. The moment you step through the doors, you’re struck by its sheer scale and splendor — the soaring dome, the intricate marble floors, the soft echo of footsteps, and the quiet sense of reverence that fills the air. It’s not just architecture; it’s a living masterpiece. Michelangelo’s Pietà is an emotional centerpiece — delicate, powerful, and impossibly detailed. Bernini’s grand bronze canopy rises like a sculpture of light beneath the dome, drawing your eyes upward in awe. Every inch of the basilica feels alive with centuries of devotion, artistry, and history. Climbing to the top of the dome is an experience not to be missed. The narrow stairways and spiral paths eventually open up to one of the most breathtaking views in all of Rome — the Vatican, St. Peter’s Square, and the city’s terracotta rooftops stretching out toward the horizon. Go early to avoid crowds, dress respectfully, and give yourself time to linger. St. Peter’s Basilica isn’t just a stop on a sightseeing list — it’s a place that leaves a quiet, lasting impression on your heart.

Absolutely beautiful! The moment you walk in, you can’t help but be amazed by the high ceilings, incredible paintings, and the stunning details everywhere you look. The scale and artistry are breathtaking — pictures just don’t do it justice. A truly awe-inspiring place to visit!

Saint Peter’s Basilica is an absolute must-visit in Rome and one of the most magnificent landmarks in the world. As one of the four Holy Doors during the Jubilee year, it holds deep spiritual significance. The architecture is breathtaking, and every corner is filled with masterpieces — from Michelangelo’s Pietà to the grand dome offering stunning views. The interior is both majestic and peaceful, a true testament to centuries of devotion and artistry. Whether you come for faith, history, or beauty, this basilica leaves an unforgettable impression. Truly one of the greatest treasures of Vatican City and all of Rome.

Piazza Navona is a stunning square in Rome with a rich history dating back to the 1st century A.D. It was originally the site of Domitian Stadium, built to introduce Greek-style athletics and sports to the Roman public. However, it fell into disuse over time and was transformed into a beautiful Baroque piazza in the 17th century under Pope Innocent X.
Piazza Navona: A Breathtaking Baroque Masterpiece and Dining Heaven! Piazza Navona is, quite simply, breathtaking. This stunning square is a true masterpiece of Roman Baroque architecture and a must-see for anyone visiting the city. The elegant, elongated shape (built on the foundations of the ancient Stadium of Domitian!) is beautiful in itself, but the centerpiece, Bernini's magnificent Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers), is what makes the view truly special and picturesque. It’s the perfect place to sit, soak up the vibrant Roman atmosphere, and admire the beautiful Church of Sant'Agnese in Agone. As someone who loves great food and appreciates a quality dining experience, I can happily confirm that the area around the piazza is packed with great restaurants. Don't be fooled by the tourist location; wandering just off the main square will lead you to some incredible trattorias and enotecas. You can find everything from authentic Roman classics to wonderful places to enjoy an aperitivo with a truly majestic backdrop. Whether you're visiting for the art, the history, or a memorable meal with a picturesque view, Piazza Navona delivers on all fronts. This is Rome at its finest!

Piazza Navona is a truly stunning square and one of the most beautiful spots in Rome. The atmosphere is vibrant and full of life, with artists painting, street musicians playing, and visitors filling the cafes. The centerpiece is the magnificent Fountain of the Four Rivers. It's an absolute masterpiece of sculpture that you can just walk right up to. The other fountains complete the picture-perfect scene. It's the perfect place for a leisurely stroll, to people-watch, or to simply sit on a bench and enjoy. The energy is infectious, making it a must-visit piazza that captures the heart of Rome.
Khalid A — Google review
A very nice piazza. It was built over The Stadium of Domitian which was used for athletic competition. There are many nice stores and cafes. The 3 fountains, Fountain of the Moor, Fountain of Neptune and the Fountain of Four Rivers are beautiful. A great area to site see and have lunch or a drink. Well worth a visit if you are in Rome.
Robert U — Google review
A beautiful site that everyone must see. We arrived at 9am and the piazza was really quiet. Take some time to walk between the three fountains and take in the architecture. If you are heading on to some of the churches in Rome but are ill equipped and need a scarf to cover yourself, don’t be tempted to buy from the little shops here. They charge €10 for a small scarf and you can find them for c. €3 in other shops.
Alex C — Google review
Built on the elongated perimeter of the ancient Domitian Stadium, known as “Circo Agonalis,” where gymnastic competitions took place, Piazza Navona is one of the most beautiful and famous squares in Rome with its showy fountains, baroque palazzi, and colorful cast of street artists. My partner, our friends, family member, and I visited this spot in September during our golf cart tour. Since it was refurbished by Pope Innocent X, it has been a gathering spot for people from all over Rome and all walks of life, and it continues to be so to this day. At its center stands Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s magnificent Fountain of the Four Rivers (Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi), completed in 1651. This dynamic sculpture represents the four great rivers of the known continents at the time—the Nile, the Ganges, the Danube, and the Río de la Plata—each embodied by a powerful figure surrounding an ancient Egyptian obelisk. Two other fountains adorn the piazza: the Fontana del Moro at the southern end, depicting a Moor wrestling a dolphin, and the Fontana del Nettuno at the northern end, featuring Neptune battling a sea creature. Together, these fountains create a harmonious rhythm across the square, uniting art, mythology, and the musical sound of water. The church of Sant’Agnese in Agone added so much charm to the scene. The best part was no entrance fee, no crowds, just a short line. Once one steps inside, the interior is a feast for the eyes. Rich marble work, ornate gold details, and stunning frescoes create an atmosphere of grandeur and devotion. Whether one's stopping by during the day or in the evening, the space itself feels like stepping into an open-air museum—full of charm and atmosphere.
Eloy Y — Google review
A very pleasant place. There are many tourists here, but it still feels very spacious. I encourage you to visit the square at different times of day — the light beautifully complements and shapes the atmosphere of this place. You can sit on the benches around the square or by the fountains and simply take it all in. In the afternoon, there are more people selling things illegally. The mornings are definitely calmer…
Danuta Z — Google review
There early morning before the crowds & it was so peaceful & quiet & allowed you time to soak up the beauty. The fountains are lovely, the buildings so classical. Lots of cafes you enjoy watching the we world go by & the ever growing crowds.

Piazza Navona instantly became one of my favorite spots in Rome. The Baroque fountains, lively cafés, and street artists create an amazing atmosphere. Walking through the square feels like stepping into a painting, with history and beauty everywhere. It’s the perfect place to relax, wander, and soak in Rome’s charm.

Piazza di Spagna, a refined 18th-century square in Rome, is famous for being the location of the Spanish Steps and the Church of Trinità dei Monti. The wide and curvy staircase was built to connect the French Church above to the Spanish Embassy below, giving both the square and steps their names. This picturesque piazza is a popular spot due to its scenic beauty and prime location in Rome's shopping district.
Nicest place in Rome for me. At least there a some safe spot to sit and watch people, with luxury shopping streets nearby, but the lack of coffee shops is a concern. It would be amazing if there are some coffee shops directly facing the Piazza so travellers can sit down, have a sip and enjoy the gorgeous architecture.

I had a wonderful stay at this hostel! 🌿 The location is perfect – close to the main attractions, restaurants, and public transport. The rooms were clean, cozy, and well-maintained, with everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were very friendly and always ready to help with recommendations or any questions I had, which made me feel really welcome. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed – a great place to meet new people or simply enjoy some quiet time. I would definitely come back and highly recommend this hostel to anyone visiting The RomeHello⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Spanish Steps are one of Rome’s most iconic landmarks, and standing at the bottom looking up is truly breathtaking. The sweeping staircase feels grand yet inviting, leading from the lively Piazza di Spagna up to the beautiful Trinità dei Monti church. Climbing the steps is an experience in itself—you get wonderful views of the piazza below and the rooftops of Rome as you go. The atmosphere is always vibrant, with people relaxing on the steps, street artists nearby, and the Barcaccia Fountain adding to the charm at the base. What I loved most was how the Spanish Steps combine elegance, history, and daily life all in one place. Whether you sit and people-watch, take photos, or enjoy the view from the top, it’s a must-see when in Rome.

The Spanish Steps are one of Rome’s most iconic landmarks, full of charm and history. Sitting on the steps and watching the lively atmosphere around Piazza di Spagna is an experience in itself – a mix of locals, travelers, and the timeless beauty of the city. The view from the top is beautiful, especially at sunset when the square below glows with warm colors. The steps are also perfectly located, surrounded by elegant shops, cafés, and narrow Roman streets that are a joy to explore. Even though it gets crowded, the energy of the place makes it special. It’s more than just a staircase – it’s a meeting point, a stage for people-watching, and a spot that captures the spirit of Rome. A must-visit if you’re in the city – simple, beautiful, and unforgettable.

If you come to Rome you must come to this place. Good in the evening time. Normally there is a crowd but still you Good to go to the top and visit the church. And down to the bottom you have the famous fountain were you can go inside it and take photos.

Iconic place, if you’re in Rome this is a must!! You must live the experience to walk and climb this steps. Views above are really nice. On the top you can find a church, is not really beautiful compared with another ones in Rome (Im not a religious person, so my opinion is objective)
Erick P — Google review
Although the square is not big, you can see the Spanish Step and the famous shopping street. There is a fountain in the middle of the square where you can add water. There are different cosmetics and clothing stores around the square. You can spend about one to two hours here to slowly explore.

Visited in July — extremely hot and crowded. It’s a popular town square with historical significance, but honestly, nothing particularly stood out for me. The area was packed with tourists, and the summer heat made it tough to enjoy. Aside from ticking it off the Rome checklist, there wasn’t much to do or see that felt unique.

Train station
Termini, located in Rome, Italy, is a well-connected district and home to the city's main railway station. Despite being relatively run down, it offers easy access to the city center and is just a short walk from Piazza Repubblica.
Good train station. Always super busy. The station is also huge. You can only access the platforms if you have a valid ticket. You have direct transfer to the Fiumicino airport from here, though the price is pretty high. The food joints are pathetic here. Better avoid.
Sumanta C — Google review
The station is well-connected and easy to access, but it’s worth noting that some platforms or terminals are quite far from the main entrance. It can be inconvenient if you’re carrying heavy luggage or in a hurry, so it’s a good idea to arrive a bit early. Otherwise, the infrastructure is modern, and there’s a good variety of shops and facilities.
Adrian C — Google review
Extremely chaotic and overcrowded. You really need to be careful with your personal belongings—there’s a heavy presence of police and soldiers, which made me wonder if it’s just for pickpocketing or something more serious. The surrounding area doesn't feel safe at all. It’s unfortunate that one of the main stations of the city is in such a condition. The downstairs toilets are clean, but access costs €1.20, which is quite expensive—though, to be fair, it's probably necessary to keep them in decent shape. Inside the station feels more like a shopping mall, but due to the overall chaotic atmosphere, none of the shops felt appealing. Important tip: If your train departs from platforms 25–29, be aware that these are really far from the main station building. Make sure to arrive early—otherwise, you might end up missing your train. Next time, I’ll definitely book accommodation on the other side of the city just to avoid coming to Termini.
Nida Ö — Google review
Terrible experience at the down stairs toilet!! 2 cleaning ladies publicly shamed me for trying to use the baby toilet so i can pee. I have two big luggages and a disabled dog. The cubicle was too small for me and my things and Rome Termini is know for pick pockets and thieves! So i am definitely not leaving my things out to pee! But the two ladies working at 9:40am on 29, June 2025!!! You are despicable for publicly shaming me instead of informing me that im not allowed to use the baby toilet even though i already explained my situation! Telling the other ladies in the room that i am despicable and impossible to even ask! YES! I understand you!
Rizza G — Google review
The environment and design is good, but the ticketing system is confusing, I don't know why I bought two tickets at a time and could only use them once, my friend couldn't get into the station in time. When I took the order email and asked how to fix it, the staff in charge of ticketing actually told me "I don't know"...it was so confusing…
Xiyan Y — Google review
Performed the function of a train station well. Big board tells you which line you are leaving from, particularly if you wear your spectacles. Shops available if you need nutrition and hydration. Signs were easy to follow. No complaints
Tommy T — Google review
Absolutely horrible. We were trapped in a broken elevator and their intercom was barely audible and they didn’t speak English. We experienced absolute terror trapped inside a dark, dirty and confined elevator that was broken but no one bothered to fix or at least warn passengers that it is broken. No one came to our help and we had to pry the door open by force. It was traumatizing. This place is awful!
Freidrichm — Google review
The Termini station has a wide selection of services available and offers good train, metro and bus connections. When we boarded an eastbound regional train, there was a degree of congestion at the platform entrance gates, partly due to excessive traveller numbers, partly to defective validation technology and partly also to unaccustomed travellers slowing down access due to their ignorance regarding the validation methods. Reserve extra time for such incontingencies when travelling from Termini.

If I could give it zero stars, I would. From the beginning of the process, it was chaotic, inefficient and underwhelming. In order for us to simply be provided with details of where the bus stops were, there was immense pressure to buy the tickets from the vendors first. Once we purchased, we were advised where the stop was. Upon arrival, the line was ridiculously long. We followed the instructions of the attendant and as he argued with a lady, several people jumped the line. When advised, there was no recourse We were finally allowed on but due to overcrowding, we had to share the seats intended for the handicapped. (imagine 3 people sitting on 2 seats until someone exits). Once seated properly, there was no A/C and the devices to hear the tour information was muffled, sporadic and unable to increase the volume. They oversold the tickets and didn’t keep to a consistent schedule. We have done hop on/hop off tours in many cities around the world. This was by far our worst experience. Do yourself a favor and stick to the red bus tour for your peace of mind and enjoyment.
Nell A — Google review
Hop on hop off bus is okay but DO NOT use them for an excursion to Pompeii. Attached is a photo of the “deluxe coach” we drove from Rome to Pompeii in with six people and luggage. At Pompeii we had to argue with the guide to get headsets as was promised in the literature. In spite of all of us complaining we were basically told we were out of luck and they would not refund. What a joke.
F P — Google review
This was great way to explore Rome. The stops are close to very beautiful famous landmarks and sights. The bus additional comes with an audio guide in a variety of differnet languages allowing you to listen to the history while enjoying the landscape. There is a bus coming about every 15 minutes allowing you time to enjoy touring, aswell as any ticket purchased grants you access to take multiple line across the city. Would recommend bringing running shoes and a hat as some busses do not provide shade on the top deck, overall as a tourist I would recommend!
June P — Google review
Don't buy their tours. They take forever to arrive, it seems like they have 2 buses for the whole city of Roma. "Every 14 min" they say but it's actually 25-30min. The wifi never works in all of their buses and the audio guide doesn't work properly in several seats. Buy Big Bus tours instead, they pass every 5 min literally I witnessed.
Marcelo B — Google review
Our biggest rip-off in Italy. Firstly, 24 hour ticket does NOT last 24 hours, it's from when you buy it until 8pm on same day. Secondly, the buses are NOT 10 minutes apart, at one stop we waited 24 minutes for an overcrowded bus that then waited at Termini for 15+ minutes before continuing. They don't have enough buses on the route, and with the buses so infrequent, every stop had heaps of people and a long wait before we went again. Avoid ! There are other hop-on hop-off options in Rome
Brett C — Google review
DONT USE IT! THEYRE SCAMMERS!!! The sellers, which by the way are pretty agressive chasing you until you buy them a ticket, scam you with fake information about the use of all the lines and the quality of the buses...Well, the buses have half of the audio machines broken, you cannot plug your earplugs at all, so you end exchanging seats until you find one it works. About the other 2 extra lines, that is the only thing it makes this company attractive, just work 3 times per day. We went to the main office and they wont help you or give you a refund, so no matter what you try, invest in tickets for this company is a total waste of money and time, and definetely a mood change! NO RECOMMENDED AT ALL!!!
Thays Q — Google review
First experience was great because I just wanted to go around Rome. I bought a 24 hour ticket and they informed me I would be able to get to my vatican tour on time. The first time I took the bus it was like maybe a half hour to get to the vatican stop. The next day they stayed parked for 20 minutes before leaving and when my group asked if we should get off and just call a cab they told us we would be fine. That was soooo not true. It took over an hour to get to the vatican, with them stopping at other locations to fill up the bus for at least 10 minutes. Had to reschedule my vatican tour( luckily the tour group was cool about it) but greenline also talked me into a night tour that I couldn't attend because of all the delays. And when I reached out about them giving false information and trying to cancel the night tour / get refunded, you can probably guess I'm still waiting for a reply days later.

The accommodation is located in a quiet neighborhood, well-connected to the city center by tram, making it convenient for travelers. I have to say that this B&B is really cost- efficient. And the area is suit for me which means close to the bus station, supermarket, restaurant, bank..... but not so efficient due to the bad transportation net(some times I have to wait for a bus for 20min) Besides, The B&B is so clean and careing covid-19, which both means a lot to me. and The breafast is well-rounded including juice, milk, coolies, coffee and so forth. host is sensitive, since once I dry my close in the balcony, and then I found that the host put my close in a better place. I really into these details. If I have to say something bad, that is the language, but not a essiential point

I really enjoyed my stay. 5 minute walk from tram stop which only 15 minutes into city centre. One tram stop away from Train station! Accommodation very clean. Claire and her mother were amazing, both have the gift of hospitality. I really enjoyed my stay, using Rome as my base, travelling by train to Florence and Pompeii for a day each. I truly felt cared for. They have such enthusiam for their city and asked what I got up to. They made great suggestions of where to eat and what to see. Tips! Book on line for most places to avoid the queues. Sistine Chapel, (note they chase you out of the chapel at 5.30pm so make sure you have time to spend appreciating the ceiling!) Colessum and roman ruins David in Florence. You can skip extremely long lines if you booked on line and more than a day in advance. If not I highly recommend tours guides as they will allow you to skip the queues and they are really informative and interesting. Have good walking shoes as I walked 44 miles in the 6 days I was there. Too much to see, you won't see everything in one visit. I was so blessed. May you enjoy your visit and be blessed like I was! Will definitely come again.

I was expecting long waits, but the max was 10 minutes. Really convenient to see all the tourist hot spots but they need to add a stop between 6 and 7 around. AC in some buses weren't working... it was baking on the lower deck. I can't compare the other tour bus services, but thia HOHO bus made my whole trip worthwhile. Hats off to the guys working at all the stops. Really helpful and kind despite the hectic job in the heat, dealing with thankless tourists cant be easy. Specially want to mention the guy at stop 6. We got on a crowded bus, he recommended we should get off and take the next one which he said would arrive in 3 min. He was spot on. The bus came we got front-ish row seats on the top deck. Santa Maria is a vibrant destination that beautifully blends history and modern charm. Visitors can explore the Museo Nazionale Romano, which houses an impressive collection of Roman and Greek art, including treasures from the Diocletian Baths. Nearby, Michelangelo's Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri Church stands as a testament to artistic brilliance. For those looking to unwind, there’s a fantastic selection of craft beers available at local spots, featuring eight taps with options even for gluten-free enthusiasts.

Santa Maria Maggiore is a majestic church in Rome with a rich history dating back to the fourth century. According to legend, Pope Liberius had a vision of the Virgin Mary directing him to build a church where snow fell the next day. Despite it being August, snow miraculously fell on the Esquiline hill, leading to the construction of this great basilica. Since the fifth century, daily masses have been held at this historic site.

The Vatican Museums, also known as Musei Vaticani, are a vast complex housing an impressive collection of classical and Renaissance art masterpieces. The museum features works by renowned artists such as Raphael and Michelangelo, along with artifacts from ancient Egypt, Greece, and the Roman Empire. Visitors can explore the Raphael Rooms, which once served as the private apartments of Pope Julius II and showcase the famous School of Athens fresco.
Completely worth the hype, 100% must see when in Rome. I spent a month studying abroad in Italy and it was the coolest thing I saw the entire time. The sheer amount of incredible art and the building itself will blow you away.

Wonderful place. You can buy tickets online beforehand. There 2 lines for the entrance. One for those who want to buy tickets there and for ones with ready ones. We took tickets in the spot and waited for an hour on Monday at 2pm. There are people selling their tickets for 15 euros more expensive than the real price. There is a cafe there with reasonable prices. You can get there sandwiches, salads, pastry, coffee and wine. Good quality. There is a water fountain in the garden. Very crowded museum, but still quite comfortable to watch everything you want. Loved it!

My main goal was to see the Sistine Chapel. After a long wait in the blistering sun, I finally arrived. We walked through the entire museum like cattle, surrounded by fellow tourists who seemed to have forgotten to pack deodorant for a hot summer day. This made the experience a bit less magical. At the end of the journey, we entered the chapel. However, you can't take pictures, talk, or truly savor the moment because you still feel like cattle in a herd. History, paintings, and art are indeed beautiful. Yet, I can think of more charming and enjoyable places that offer equal artistic experiences. Overall, I'm not convinced the wait and travel were worth it.

Go early and on weekdays away from church holidays and then you can enjoy the stroll through the Vatican museums. Be prepared to walk and have a bottle of water to rehydrate. You can refill from any tap with the potable water sign. There is so much to see and appreciate. Arts and history unfurl as you walk through. Listen to the different tour leaders as you cross their paths. Some have very interesting anecdotes. The artifacts are well preserved. Visitors were well behaved and observant of rules. See the photos. Vatican personnel were very efficient, polite and helpful. Toilets available at strategic locations and certainly appreciated. Clean. Make use of the Vatican post office to send a postcard.

The Roman Forum is a sprawling archaeological site in Rome, featuring ancient temples, squares, and government buildings dating back 2,000 years. It's more of an open-air museum than a conventional one and is a must-visit for first-time visitors to Rome. Despite the crowds and the need to use your imagination due to the ruins, it offers a glimpse into the glory of the ancient empire.
We went to the Roman forum around 10am to spend a few hours before our timed colosseum tickets. We entered at the top of a big hill so there was no wait. There are many entrances so I doubt anyone would have to wait too long. The space was so large and there were few maps so I kept worrying I was missing important things. It’s easy to get lost and forget what you’ve seen but after exploring for about 3 hours, the map on our way out showed we happened to do it all anyway! We skipped going into the museums inside just due to stamina, as you could be there ALL day and not see it all. There were many water ‘fountains’ around which was nice and bathrooms seemed easily accessible. Lots of cool things to see. We had the “full experience” ticket which I would recommend to anyone because within the forum there were several spots where only those with “full experience” tickets could access. I believe you can get tickets that allow access to one specific extra area but id skip the stress and get the full experience ticket. Less confusing that way as well. The photo with the large stair case was where we climbed up and entered not long after that.

It's a plaza surrounded by ancient ruins of official government buildings. It was the main marketplace. It's definitely worth visiting if you are seeing colosseum. I came to know about it when we booked our colosseum tour as a package. It's a fascinating place with full of history, but lacks maps and information board. Do allow few hours to walk as it's a massive place plus some places it's bit hilly. Near the exit there is a cafe which is a bonus point.

Huge Place, where you can imagine how people lived 2000 years ago, how buildings were huge and how incredible was architecture in that times. Beautiful place with full of history. In the past area was split and dedicated to more Ceasars, like Nervo, Augustus, etc . You have to see it , it's great place to get history into mind :) Tickets you can buy together with colloseum.

Formerly the center of public life in ancient Rome. I went here as part of my coliseum tour. Not as much grandeur of the coliseum, of course, but it was fascinating to walk through the old heart of the Eternal City, not to mention the ruins of Octavian/Augustus' palace.

Amazing to see. Could easily spend all day there. We entered by "Via dei Fori Imperiali" which was a lot quieter than the entrance by the colosseum. Toilets dotted around and we found 1 cafe by our entrance. Really worth seeing.

What a place! We bought the combined ticket with the Colosseo entrance. Visited the Colosseo at 9 am and by 10:15 we were at the Forum, thankfully, because when we left at around 1pm, the line was so big that it went around the other street. The place is huge and you can easily get "lost"or not see some interesting parts. Tip: download some map so that you can undertand where you are at the moment. Very impressive and i left with my heart full!

This was the most amazing experience - we went with a tour guide so didn’t have to wait to get in, the queue was pretty long so would recommend - I would also recommend a tour so you actually get to know what is what - our guide was very Informative, but didn’t go on and on and make it boring - it was absolutely fascinating to learn the history and see what it used to be like from pictures she showed us and what is still present today. Such a great time - would love to return and spend more time here as we only had about 1hr in here - you could easily spend 1/2 -1 day here depending on the level of your interest - highly recommend!

Located not far from St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Castel Sant'Angelo is a circular 2nd-century castle that has served various purposes throughout history. Initially built as Emperor Hadrian's mausoleum, it later became a stronghold for the city and was contested by powerful Roman families. In 1367, Pope Urban V received its keys, marking the end of the Avignon exile.
Castel Sant'Angelo was easily one of the most incredible experiences of my entire time in Rome, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From its commanding presence on the Tiber River to the layers of history held within its circular walls, this magnificent structure is a true marvel. Do yourself a massive favor and get the audio tour. It provides rich context and brings the castle's incredible, millennia-spanning history to life. Originally built as a mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian, the building has served as a fortress, a papal residence, a prison, and a place of refuge. The transition from one use to the next is a fascinating story that the tour helps you uncover. To thoroughly explore this gem, I strongly suggest giving yourself a solid 2 to 3 hours. Rushing through simply won't do it justice. Take the time to wander through the opulent papal apartments, walk the historic ramparts, and ascend to the glorious terrace for one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Rome and St. Peter's Basilica. The sheer weight of history here is palpable. It’s an unforgettable journey through Roman, Renaissance, and Papal history. Skip the line, take the time, and prepare to be truly impressed. A definite highlight!

This was one of my favorite places in Rome! The walk up to the castle over the bridge lined with angel statues is absolutely beautiful — every one is different and worth stopping for a photo. Once inside, it feels like stepping back through layers of history. The rooms, the artwork, and even the winding stairways are fascinating. The best part is reaching the very top terrace where you get an incredible view of the city and St. Peter’s Basilica — especially from the windows. There’s also a little café up there where you can relax with a cappuccino and just take it all in. Plan to give yourself a couple of hours — it’s much larger inside than it looks from the street. Definitely one of those places that feels magical and peaceful, even in busy Rome. Highly recommend!
Jeannie W — Google review
We visited Castel Sant'Angelo after sunset and even without going inside, it was a breathtaking experience. The castle is dramatically lit against the night sky, creating a powerful and majestic silhouette that towers over the Tiber River. The atmosphere around the castle and on the Ponte Sant'Angelo bridge was romantic and serene. Seeing the illuminated angels on the bridge with the castle as a backdrop felt like something out of a movie. It was much less crowded than during the day, making it perfect for a peaceful evening stroll. While we're sure the interior is fascinating, the exterior alone is absolutely worth seeing at night. It's a fantastic free way to appreciate one of Rome's most iconic landmarks in a truly magical light. Highly recommend for an evening walk!
Khalid A — Google review
One of the most impressive historical landmarks in Rome. The architecture is absolutely stunning, and the views from the top are breathtaking you can see the Tiber River, St. Peter’s Basilica, and much of the city’s skyline. The interior is filled with fascinating history, from ancient Roman times to its use as a papal fortress. The museum inside is well-organized with informative displays and beautiful artworks. I really enjoyed walking through the corridors, courtyards, and terraces that tell the story of centuries past. It’s definitely a must-visit spot in Rome, especially around sunset when the light makes the whole place glow.
Saeed B — Google review
Castel Sant’Angelo impressed me with its massive structure and stunning views over Rome. Walking through the ramps, terraces, and old corridors felt like stepping between centuries of history. The rooftop panorama was the highlight, offering a beautiful look at the Tiber River and the city. A fascinating and memorable visit overall.
Juan T — Google review
Time well spent in Rome, even if all you want are views of Rome! We read everything about the castles extensive history. From the outside it is very obvious where it gets added on and added on. I like that dichotomy of the sparseness in the mosaleum and then the richness of the papal apartments.. There were lots of lovely exhibits and vantage spots. You do need to watch your surroundings, we saw many people miss small exhibits that were just to the left or right if a stair. Only about 5 people we saw walked around the entire castle on the outter gates, missing some great views of the bridge below. Not really for people with mobility issues, although the castle certainly tries, there are just a lot of stairs!
Sara R — Google review
Phenomenal and beautiful castle almost in the center of the Rome. I can recommend to do a tour inside where is a lot of things to see. Inside you can see for example : models of the castle from past, different soldiers armours from the different times ago, swords, axes a many other things . It is like one big museum. From the top of the castle is unbelievable view for all Rome. And you can see the statue of saint Angelo. Absolutely phenomenal !! You must see it .
Jakub A — Google review
An iconic symbol of Rome, and one of my favorite places in this city. They always have one or more small rotating exhibits that offer an excuse to come back over and over again. Beautiful in the daytime, even better after dark and illuminated. Don't miss the strategically located bar ristorante with breathtaking views of Rome and of St Peter's. Reservations for general admission to the castle generally not necessary unless a popular exhibit is happening. A separate ticket will be required if you're interested in a tour of the "Passetto", the Pope's secret escape passage. Advanced reservations and planning are highly recommended for this tour that may be only on limited days and times.

Villa Borghese is a sprawling urban park in Rome, featuring meticulously landscaped gardens, an artificial lake with a temple, and several villas that now house important museums. The park also includes an aviary, an orangery, and various other charming buildings and follies. It was designed in the English style by Scottish artist Jacob More for the Borghese family in the 1770s.
Such a huge and amazing garden! Everything was so tidy and beautiful, with fresh air everywhere. We really enjoyed our time at Villa Borghese. We didn't go to the gallery or the lake, and we still had a great time just walking around. The best part was the park itself. It's full of amazing trees that are tall, old, and really beautiful. They give lots of nice shade, which makes it perfect for a relaxing walk, even on a warm day. The paths are wide and easy to follow, leading you through green lawns and pretty gardens. It's a quiet and calm place to take a break from the busy city. We just found a bench, sat down, and enjoyed the peaceful feeling. If you want a simple, nice escape in Rome, we definitely recommend coming here for a stroll.

We traveled to here twice from outside Rome. From Termini you can take bus bit can be crowded and also you can walk if you have time and ability. We explores the playground area both times. Playground is not large but has fun equipment and you can picnic on the grounds. Chairs for adults all around and large climbing structures with a slide. Playground outdoors is free to use. It is accessible with a stroller and next to the playground there is a cafe with accessible toilets which covers snacks and bathroom needs for little kids. Next to the playground you can do pony rides which cost seven euros cash. Then game machines and car course, you need to buy special coins with cash or card to play the machines. We also tried the mini movie theater with both kids. It was a long show but kids loves it. They had a snack booth for packages popcorn , candy and drinks. There is a fun train that rides around the park and also to the zoo. Then if you walk around the park you can find icecream or snack stands sparsely put. They rent out carriage bikes so you have to be careful when walking because people can go fast or avoid driving paths. Nature is lovely. If you need cash bring beforehand because ai had to walk out for 20 min or more outside to finally find an ATM available on a Sunday. A lot more to explore and nearby there is the Explora museum for kids.

Brief Summary and Disappointment from a Visit to Villa Borghese, Rome Villa Borghese is the largest and most famous public park in Rome, known as the city's "green lung" and the gateway to a beautiful garden (which contains the Borghese Gallery). Main Sources of Enjoyment: An Escape from the Hustle: The park is an excellent place to relax and escape the crowds and noise of the city center. Key Landmarks: The park contains the Terrazza del Pincio with its perfect view, the picturesque Temple of Aesculapius on the lake, various fountains, and opportunities to rent bikes or rowboats. The Common Disappointment (and Explanation): Disappointment often stems from the fact that: The Park Itself is Simple: Unlike many highly formal Italian gardens, most of Villa Borghese is designed as a large English-style park and does not feature manicured or "secret" elaborate landscaping around every corner. It is perceived by some visitors as "just a large park," which can feel too "prosaic." The Gallery is the Main Event: The true and monumental attraction in the area is the Borghese Gallery (Galleria Borghese), which requires booking tickets far in advance (sometimes months ahead!) and limits the visit to two hours. Visitors who failed to book a ticket in advance find themselves excluded from the main attraction and are left only with wandering the exterior park. In Conclusion: Villa Borghese offers a welcome break from the city. To avoid disappointment, you must book tickets for the Borghese Gallery well in advance. Without the Gallery, the park remains pleasant, tranquil, and photogenic, but it is not an extraordinary "must-see" destination on its own.

We happened on this and missed it. Looks like a beautiful gallery. Tickets were booking at least 2 weeks out. The gardens and park in front of it were lovely to walk through. On weekends there seemed to be lots of activities for families in the park. Can rent bikes etc there also.

The Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere is a grand Catholic church with a rich history dating back to the 3rd century. Located in the lively Trastevere district of Rome, it is celebrated for its 12th-century mosaics and lavish interior adorned with 22 Roman columns.
Another important and beautiful basilica dedicated to Santa Maria. Do visit although this place can be slightly out of the city center and other attractions. There are much lesser people but still well visited by tourists and devotees. Spend a good 20 minutes here. Avoid talking loudly and be considerate. Purchase souvenirs and make a donation if you can!

The Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere and its surrounding piazza are absolutely breathtaking at night, and I mean that in the most profound way. The moment you step into the piazza, you're hit with this incredible glow. The basilica's facade, with its famous golden mosaics sparkling under the floodlights, feels almost supernatural, like a beacon in the vibrant chaos of Trastevere. The entire scene feels magical and looks exactly like something you'd see on a postcard or in a movie. The piazza itself is an event. It’s buzzing with energy—a beautiful mix of locals out for an evening passeggiata, street artists performing, and travelers soaking in the atmosphere. The fountains murmur, people chat and laugh on the steps, and the sound of music from nearby cafes fills the air. It’s the kind of place that captures the very soul of a Roman evening. However, amidst all that historical beauty and charm, we also saw a less-polished, grittier side of the city. As we were taking in the incredible sight of the basilica, we noticed some young spray painters at work nearby. It was a jarring and unusual contrast—this sacred, ancient space with its intricate art, set against the raw, modern graffiti being created right there in the piazza. It pulls you out of the fairytale and reminds you that this place isn't just a preserved relic; it's a living, breathing, and sometimes messy part of the city. Ultimately, that contrast is what made the experience so memorable. The Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere at night is a powerful blend of ancient awe and contemporary life. It’s beautiful, a little bit raw, and perfectly captures the spirit of this incredible neighborhood. It’s a definite must-see.

Incredibly beautiful Basilica. Amazing Mosaics. For serious Catholics who appreciate historical buildings. The oldest parish in Rome, originally built in the 200s by approval of Pope Callisto II, further rebuilt and added to in 1100s.

Located on the lively Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, this church is one of the oldest in Rome and a true gem of the Trastevere district, known for its authentic Roman atmosphere. Originally founded in the 3rd century and rebuilt in the 12th century, it beautifully combines history, art, and spirituality. The golden mosaics on the façade immediately catch the eye, while the Romanesque bell tower overlooks the bustling square. Inside, visitors can admire the magnificent medieval mosaics by Pietro Cavallini, depicting the Virgin Mary crowned by Christ — a masterpiece of Byzantine-inspired art. The ancient marble columns, taken from old Roman temples, add to the church’s timeless charm. Santa Maria in Trastevere is both a spiritual haven and a vibrant cultural stop, perfect for discovering the heart and soul of the Trastevere neighborhood
Jean L — Google review
A spectacular Roman gem and traditionally regarded as one of the earliest Christian places of worship in Rome, with a foundation possibly dating to the 3rd century. The dazzling golden mosaics on the façade and apse are the absolute highlight, especially as the evening light hits them. The ancient columns taken from the Baths of Caracalla also add incredible historic weight. A truly beautiful and central piece of the Trastevere neighborhood.
Nika K — Google review
We noted this as one of the churches we wanted to try and see in Rome. The experience starts before you get in with the distinctive façade. The ceiling inside is just as impressive. Would recommend spending a bit of time here if you are in the neighborhood.

Visitors can use the Roma Pass for unlimited access to the transit system and entry to covered sites with discounts.
Nice little park of ruins (and cats). You can be in the area where Julius Ceasar was assassinated. Not very busy, you can see most of it from street level, but you can have access to a little more if you pay and go down (we did, I found it worth it).

You can scan a QR code up top to learn all about the history of how it was discovered. Check it out.

Beautiful place with a rich history, you can see everything from above and if you have a good camera can take some wonderful pictures. One amazing thing is you can see some beautiful cats amongst the ruins too, it's really a spectacular place you should try and visit. We have been here every day on our holiday to Rome.
Mitchell S — Google review
Tickets cost €7 per person, but there really isn’t much to see down there. It’s an open-air area you access by going downstairs, with information about four temples and some excavations—that’s all. Even if you read every panel carefully, it won’t take more than ten minutes. It’s better to think of the ticket price as a donation to support the archaeological work. If you’re visiting mainly for the Curia di Pompeo—the place where Caesar was assassinated—there’s just one information panel downstairs, and it’s probably not worth the ticket. You still can’t get close to the exact spot, only a little closer than from street level. If you’re coming for the cats, there’s absolutely no reason to pay for entry. The cats don’t come near the wooden walkway and often wander up to the street instead. Also, avoid visiting the cat sanctuary. One of the volunteers is extremely rude and racist, openly judging people by their appearance or ethnicity. If you want to see the cats, the best way is simply to watch them from above.
Eska S — Google review
This is more than just where Julius Ceasar was assassinated. The ruins are impressive and is just in the middle of the city, quite near to the Pantheon. There is a small fee to enter the museum and the cat sanctuary (around €17 in Oct 25), but I didn't see many cats during my visit. Quite a charming place during the evening too and there are a lot of places to have a drink nearby.
Monideep G — Google review
Largo di Torre Argentina is an ancient square with Roman ruins right in the middle of the city. This is where Julius Caesar was killed, so it’s a big spot for history fans. You can’t walk inside the ruins, but you can look down from the street level and see the remains of four temples and part of Pompey’s Theater. One unique thing is that it’s also a cat sanctuary. You’ll see lots of cats living among the ruins, cared for by volunteers. It’s a fun mix of ancient history and modern life. It doesn’t take long to visit, but it’s worth stopping by if you’re in the area. Good place for photos and a quick history break while walking around central Rome.

Gorgeous remains of classic ancient Roman Temple and some Christian modifications/decorations after they took over. Cat sanctuary aspect was so cute.

Nice open air museum. We didn’t pay to enter the museum as we could see it from the side walked. We enjoyed walking into the cat sanctuary and saying hi to the cats.

The National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia is a hidden gem in Rome, housed in a 16th-century palace built for Pope Julius III. It boasts an impressive collection of pre-Roman antiquities from the Etruscan and Faliscan civilizations, including pottery, jewelry, bronzes, and sculptures dating back to around 500 BC.
Very impressive museum of Etruscan artifacts: pottery, metal work, sculpture, jewellery etc. A detailed history of the geography, lives and burial rituals. A huge collection and very well curated, all housed in a beautiful villa.
D. M — Google review
What a great museum! The presentation of the exhibits helps the visitors to understand what they see and form a pretty good idea of the Etruscan culture and history. I also liked promenade in the garden and the nymphaeum.
Wilma F — Google review
Stunning museum and very informative. This was my favourite museum I went to in Rome and thought the collections and their presentation was outstanding. You can see a lot of care and consideration has been given to the artefacts. My favourite was the recreation of some of the Etruscan tombs, with animation to help with the explanation. I cannot rate this museum highly enough and would recommend for everyone who is interested in archaeology and pre-Roman history to give it a visit.
Natalie W — Google review
Traveling thousands of kilometers only to find that the museum's most beautiful piece is under restoration... What a disappointment! And I won't even mention the strange orange color. Finally, would you be so kind to translate the timeline at the entrance into English, at least? This museum is sadly very sparsely visited and showing its age.
Bë B — Google review
Wonderful museum, much larger than we expected, with an amazing display of artifacts. We visited late on a Saturday afternoon in November and the place was not very busy. We were able to see everything without feeling rushed. Several of the docents were eager to answer any questions. We truly enjoyed our visit.

Absolutely stunning building. Whereas for the collections, I've had in life my share of boring museums, and this is a serious one. Unless you're totally interested, case in which it's the best in the world.

Great place with a lot of Estruscan archeological findings, mostly grave 'accessories' buried together with the deceased. Beautiful paintings on the building.

Auditorium Parco della Musica is a futuristic concert complex in Rome, designed by architect Renzo Piano as part of an urban regeneration project. The complex features three pod-like auditoriums: Sala Santa Cecilia with 2,800 seats, Sala Sinopoli with 1,200 seats, and Sala Petrassi with 750 seats. These are built around an open-air amphitheater and are complemented by a foyer, a wooded park, and an archeology museum.
Concert in the outdoor arena. A perfect sized venue for gigs. It looked like every seat except the far sides would give a perfect view of the stage. Well run bar and easy to get to during the gig. Long queue to get it but moved very fast once doors were open. Quick exit at the end. The venue is quite small so gave a very intimate feel! Would definitely travel to see a gig here again!
Ross W — Google review
Saw an incredible concert here from Ludovico Einaudi which I can’t fault - one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. The acoustics in an outdoor space made it all the more brilliant. The venue itself is feeling a little neglected however - very limited number of toilets for such a large concert, seats are very uncomfortable and stickers were peeling so it was hard to find where you were sat. Could do with some TLC!
Billy S — Google review
Interesting architecture, great acoustics. The organization on entrance and exit is poor. Also the parking situation is strange. I paid 5 Euros for their parking for a whole concert, which is reasonable, but it was not easy to find the entrance to the venue.
Gabriela M — Google review
Renzo Piano’s signature on Rome’s post-industrial district. Both the main stage and the open-air stage are truly enjoyable. The use of levels is beautifully handled. Still, one can’t help but wish its relationship with the city were stronger. I hope the frequency of events increases. I recommend every architect and architecture student visiting Rome to experience it.
Ayşegül Ç — Google review
Incredible auditoria on the outskirts of Rome, home of a few different orchestras. I went to see the Academy of Santa Cecilia, who were excellent. The acoustic is fantastic and there is a varied and busy programme of events to suit most tastes. The train from Flamenio is probably the best way to get there if you're coming from a more central location.
D. M — Google review
Great outdoor venue! Acoustics were great but did get quite hot even late into the evening.
Gareth H — Google review
Went for a musical symphony called Distant Worlds. We got drinks beforehand at the bar at the entrance. The bathrooms were on both sides of the stairs leading to the auditorium. The numbers start in the middle of the row of the seats which was a little confusing. But the venue was great, seats were comfortable, and the sound was amazing!

The church houses a shrine containing the foot bones of Mary Magdalene and several Bernini statues. It offers an English Mass on Sundays at 6pm and is known for its beautiful Baroque design and artwork.

This an incredibly beautiful Basilica. As expected it is quiet, which makes it a fantastic escape from the chaos of Rome. There are so many statues and pieces of impressive architecture to see. It is free to go into which is also great. Please be aware that there are services and people frequently go in to pray, so guests are expected to be quiet and respectful whilst visiting. The people we met were very welcoming though.

This church has a lot of beautiful interior decorations and is really peaceful. It’s kind of tucked away in a less walked part of the city so it wasn’t super busy and it was really special to be able to venerate the relic of Saint Mary Magdalene that they have in the front left side of the church. Getting in was tricky though because all of the doors except one were unlocked (the wooden one of the right side). Definitely recommend swinging by though!

The Basilica di San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini is both majestic and intimate. Walking through its marble floor, I noticed the “Sepulchrum Marchionum de Grillis” a quiet reminder of noble Roman families resting here, blending history, art, and faith beautifully.

The Basilica dei Santi XII Apostoli, also known as the Church of the Twelve Holy Apostles, is a historic church in Rome, Italy. Originally dedicated to St. James and St. Philip, it was later devoted to all Twelve Apostles. The basilica has undergone several renovations and is adorned with Renaissance frescoes and sculpted marble tombs attributed to Michelangelo.
Relatively unknown church, built on top of an earlier building that was said to contain the tombs of 2 apostles. (Don't miss the underground rooms!) Also tombs of popes (at least 2 that I counted), and a fair share of stunning pieces by sculptor Antonio Canova.
HERM P — Google review
A very beautiful church with mesmerizing interior decorations, abundant sculptures just like a couple others in Rome, but still quite impressive and awe-inspiring.

What a beautiful church and the tombs of the Apostles Philip and little James. The Basilica of the 12 Apostles in Rome is a beautiful church. My heart fluttered, walking in the door. This church is so amazing. Very ornate and beautifully decorated to all the Apostles. The Tombs of the Apostles Philip and James the lesser brings you to tears

Basilica dei Santi XII Apostoli Just a short walk from Trevi Fountain, the Basilica dei Santi XII Apostoli is a quiet and beautiful church that many visitors miss! I went there around 8:30 in the morning, and it was almost empty!just a few people were inside, either praying or visiting in silence. It felt calm, peaceful, and very special. the tomb of Pope Clement XIV, right under the main altar. His tomb was made by the famous artist Antonio Canova, and it’s really beautiful to see. If you go, make sure to visit the crypt downstairs. It has colorful frescoes on the walls, and old stone decorations. Two of the apostles, Philip and James, are said to be buried there. The space feels ancient and sacred. The church itself is full of beautiful paintings, sculptures, and decorated ceilings. Some of the artworks were made by great artists like Carlo Maratta. It can be an option to visit after the Trevi Fountain.

This historic basilica is a feast for the eyes and the spirit, nestled right in the heart of Rome. Known for housing the tombs of the apostles Philip and James the Less, the Basilica dei Santi XII Apostoli is steeped in religious significance and adorned with stunning frescoes by artists like Domenichino. The blend of Renaissance and Baroque architecture makes this church not only a place of worship but also a spectacular example of artistic heritage. Its quiet and less touristy atmosphere provides a serene escape from the bustling city streets.

Captivating decor. So much craftsmanship/ so heavy decor / impossible to decide which Basilica is nicer !

A beautiful and peaceful basilica in the heart of Rome. It was originally built in the 6th century by Pope Pelagius I, & later rebuilt in the 15th century. The current façade is from the 1700s. This church is dedicated to the Twelve Apostles, and their relics are kept in the crypt below the main altar. The ceiling and the frescoes inside are stunning! And it’s usually very quiet a perfect spot to rest and enjoy some silence during a walk in the city. As a photographer, I really like this area for timeless and elegant portraits, especially around the entrance. Free entrance, no ticket needed, and I didn’t have to wait at all. If you’re walking near Piazza Venezia or Via del Corso, definitely stop by.

There was also a part that required tickets since they were to close soon I didn’t purchase them. It’s a nice place to sit and perhaps have cafe.

Piazza Venezia is dominated by the monumental Altare della Patria (Vittoriano). The bright white marble structure, with its grand staircase, Corinthian columns, and statues, is dramatic and impressive — though some consider it too imposing compared to Rome’s older, subtler architecture. The Palazzo Venezia adds a Renaissance contrast, and the overall square feels like a stage set for history. This square has witnessed key moments in Italy’s past — from Mussolini’s balcony speeches to the post-unification celebration of Victor Emmanuel II. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier here makes it a site of national reverence. Standing in the piazza, you really sense the layering of Roman, Renaissance, and modern Italian histor

Termini is a bustling transportation hub in Rome, offering easy access to the city's metro system and buses. Despite some drawbacks like crowded conditions and long ticket lines, it serves as a convenient starting point for exploring Rome and beyond. The area around Termini features various dining options and souvenir shops, making it a lively center for travelers. For those looking to save money on transportation, the 7-day CIS card provides access to buses, metros, and regional trains.
This train station in Rome is busy. Be prepared in advance where you need to go. Get your bearings ahead of time. Then relax and enjoy the people watching so all the crazy unfold rite before your eyes

I expected the metro in Rome to be a bit more cleaner, however this is not the case... Stairwells to street look very unnatended and old. Also... Beware with the pickpocketeers!! They tried to rob us, they are 4 women, so be on the lookout.
Everardo R — Google review
Typical subway station. Well sign posted and helpful people. At times it can be overcrowded. Also purchasing a ticket takes ages.
Sumanta C — Google review
For your own sake, please allow me to share this valuable lesson with you. To anyone planning to travel with the metro, please be extra cautious with your valuables. Especially your wallet! This is my last stop in Europe. My daughter and I had our wallets pickpocketed. I am a very careful person. I check my wallet before entering, after getting to the platform and upon boarding the train. And it is gone!! I alerted my family and my daughter had her bag underneath her sweater. She reached for her little purse and it has been taken too!!! We returned to the station without delay and were directed to a POLICE Reporting Office at the far end of the station. The officer we met discouraged us from making a report. He even told us that we may need to wait hours before he could attend to us! He claimed that he has lots of work and we could perhaps consider making the report at another police station the next day. It clearly shows that he couldn’t “care less”! I tried approaching police officers walking around the station and every one of them point to the reporting office! This couldn’t “care less” attitude is terrible! It clearly shows that no one takes their job with pride in upholding the image of the station, police, city, state and even the country! Just as I stepped out of the office after lodging my report hours later, I noticed a long queue had built up with people. Every where in the station, you see law enforcement officers in numbers. And there are so many victims of pickpocket!!! This has ruined my otherwise beautiful image of this country!
Ben H — Google review
Leave one star because there is no zero star option. The first day I got to Rome, I had my cellphone pickpocketed by a group of thieves. The police nearby does not care and just redirect us to file a report at police state. The metro station stinks and has confusing signs. Staff there is not very friendly and not fluent in English to help foreigners. So I do not recommend taking the metro. Or just simply avoid visiting this country!
Lei W — Google review
What better way to start off your trip in Rome by dodging beggers, puddles of urine, used needles & condoms, and crowds of people? Very hectic train station. Watch your stuff and dont linger here too long.
James V — Google review
I think after 8 p.m. Termini Station doesn’t feel very safe, but honestly you should be careful there at any time of the day. Always keep an eye on your money and documents, because there are many pickpockets around. As I remember, there have also been some incidents in the past where people got injured. ❌It’s definitely a place where dangerous situations can happen, so stay alert.🛑

I did the Naples/ Pompeii tour in August and it was one of my favourite tours. It’s a long day but I felt we were well looked after the whole time. Our tour included a walking tour of the Pompeii ruins. It’s a big place and we covered a small area but very interesting part of the town. It would take a full day to cover the whole place. We were given a lovely lunch nearby and then taken to Naples for their hop on hop off tour which gave a great run down on interesting parts of the town. I had a great day and would recommend.

We were in Rome mid October 2019. Waiting waiting and some more waiting for the bus to leave at Termini Station (35 minutes). During our city tour, there were several stops that some people couldn't join the bus because it was full. Lines/queues everywhere, you are afraid to get off the bus because you aren't sure if you are getting back on. But you have to, after spending most of the afternoon at the Vatican there is a long walk back to the nearest bus station and suprise suprise suprise there is a line of 75 - 100 people for the Red bus only. No lines with any of the other companies. Tired and ready to get back to our hotel it took an hour before we entered a bus. Not sure if it's a management issue in Rome, but didn't have this problem in other major cities with the same company.

It is sad to see pilgrims like Mrs. Gianna Petricca, who I do not remember having met in the group, who complain of a lack of religiosity on the part of the accompanying priest with whom we concelebrated the prayer on Holy Thursday in Nazareth, the mass on Friday afternoon in Magdala, the prayer of Holy Saturday at Gethsemane, the mass of Easter Sunday and Monday at the Holy Sepulcher, and a collective prayer at the Nativity of Bethlehem. It makes us smile to read complaints of little religiosity because during the bus transfers she gave us notions of a cultural nature, culture which, apparently, was not of interest to the lady who made me wonder what she went to do 18 times in the Holy Land!

(Translated by Google) Having made many trips with the Opera Romana and knowing its evangelizing value, I consider myself fortunate to have been accompanied by priests or lay guides, as in the case of Mr. Luca Rotili or Don Giovanni, of the highest cultural and spiritual level, I feel obliged to report the total disappointment I found towards a certain Don John, guide of the trip to the Holy Land from 6 to 10 April 2023, Holy Week. Not a prayer was said, not a page of the Gospel was read, I only listened to historical-archaeological news that I could have read on Wikipedia. For the good of the Opera, choose guides of faith and qualified. Said by a very loyal customer (18 trips to the Holy Land alone).

(Translated by Google) The first day the tram didn't come at all. Nothing on the carrier's website, just a small sign at the stop that the tram doesn't run from 5:30 PM. The next day, instead of the tram, a large-capacity sauna arrived, which was at least 50 degrees. Terrible. The trams also run slowly and late. Embark on a delightful journey with Rome Boat, where you can explore the enchanting sights of Rome from the serene waters of the Tiber River. Operating daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, this experience allows you to hop on and off at various stops every half hour, making it easy to discover iconic landmarks and charming streets at your own pace. Each tour lasts approximately one hour, giving you ample time to soak in the stunning views.
Beautiful and quite place
Mike R — Google review
As a tourist who recently experienced the Rome Boat tour. The Rome Boat tour provided an enchanting and unique perspective of the Eternal City. Gliding along the Tiber River, the boat offered comfortable seating and excellent views of Rome's historical landmarks. The highlight was undoubtedly passing under the ancient bridges, each with its own story, and catching glimpses of iconic structures like St. Peter's Basilica and the Castel Sant'Angelo. The guided commentary was both informative and engaging, offering insights into Rome's rich history and culture. It was a refreshing change from the usual hustle and bustle of walking tours. The evening cruise was particularly magical, with the city lights reflecting off the water, creating a serene and romantic atmosphere. On the downside, some parts of the riverbank were less scenic, homeless encampments along the edge of the river and the journey could feel slow at times. Just a heads up, the heads of both boats are there but you are not allowed to use them. Each boat gave different excuses as to why the washrooms were disabled. In conclusion, the Rome Boat tour is a delightful experience, ideal for those looking to see Rome from a different vantage point. It's a must-do for visitors seeking a mix of relaxation and historical exploration.

The stations’ locations are not clear. Some of them were closed. I enjoyed my experience, but my wife didn’t. The station and the boat were not clean. You need to ask to get a headphone. The headphone’s function was not good. It was a short trip. No drink or any beverages were served at the boat. Make sure to bring your supply.
Abdullah A — Google review
I bought 1 hour tour. It was back and forth in their boat.. same route...all you can see is a wall with graffiti. The main time at the boat is at the 2-3 stops.. if you are with children maybe it can burn an hour but it really isn't worth the trouble nor the money
SHARY G — Google review
Its fun to take a boat but views not very interesting, boat goes up to 7pm but didn't pick us up 6:30, they forgot to mention that last boat goes at 6 from the castle. Easier to take local busses, cheaper and get everywhere.
J S — Google review
Very poor company. The boat is very basic which could be fine. However, the service is very bad and the staff are unfriendly (except the cashiers). One of them has forbidden the clients to sit on the couch because he prepared the tables for the dinner while it was only 5pm. To sum up, not an enjoyable experience + we didn't get to see anything interesting of Rome from this cruise.
Kawter B — Google review
Very disappointing experience. First of all, you don’t see very much from the river. Bridges are not special and you can’t see any building. We boarded around 4:30 pm and were quickly asked to move since the crew were preparing the table for diner. Some passengers were asked to sit on plastic chairs.

Stop 2 - Hop on, Hop off: Roma is a fantastic way to explore the ancient neighborhoods of Rome without the hassle of traditional transport. This route takes you through iconic sites like Santa Maria Maggiore and St. John Lateran, leading you to Opium Hill, where everyday Romans once lived amidst the grandeur of elite residences like Domus Aurea. The convenience of hopping on and off makes it ideal for families or anyone wanting flexibility in their sightseeing adventure.
Huge fan of the Hop on, Hop off: Roma. I thought it was cheesy or just for tourists but what sold me was not having to carry a car seat for Ubers and the cost of fluctuating rides. This was perfect. The bus was safe, and driven well. It was easy to literally hop on and hop off even with our compact stroller. The customer service rep at the stop wasn't the nicest or the most patient, but everyone else that we interacted with was incredibly patient and helpful. The busses come by a couple times an hour and it makes it really easy to navigate or give yourself a break when visiting one monument and heading to another.

Pont a látványosságokat fűzi fel egy útvonalra, ott szállsz le, ahol akarsz, majd külön új jegy nélkül folytathatod az utadat, vagy akár leszállás nélkül kapsz egy városnéző buszos túrát.
