Located not far from St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Castel Sant'Angelo is a circular 2nd-century castle that has served various purposes throughout history. Initially built as Emperor Hadrian's mausoleum, it later became a stronghold for the city and was contested by powerful Roman families. In 1367, Pope Urban V received its keys, marking the end of the Avignon exile.
Castel Sant'Angelo was easily one of the most incredible experiences of my entire time in Rome, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From its commanding presence on the Tiber River to the layers of history held within its circular walls, this magnificent structure is a true marvel. Do yourself a massive favor and get the audio tour. It provides rich context and brings the castle's incredible, millennia-spanning history to life. Originally built as a mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian, the building has served as a fortress, a papal residence, a prison, and a place of refuge. The transition from one use to the next is a fascinating story that the tour helps you uncover. To thoroughly explore this gem, I strongly suggest giving yourself a solid 2 to 3 hours. Rushing through simply won't do it justice. Take the time to wander through the opulent papal apartments, walk the historic ramparts, and ascend to the glorious terrace for one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Rome and St. Peter's Basilica. The sheer weight of history here is palpable. It’s an unforgettable journey through Roman, Renaissance, and Papal history. Skip the line, take the time, and prepare to be truly impressed. A definite highlight!

This was one of my favorite places in Rome! The walk up to the castle over the bridge lined with angel statues is absolutely beautiful — every one is different and worth stopping for a photo. Once inside, it feels like stepping back through layers of history. The rooms, the artwork, and even the winding stairways are fascinating. The best part is reaching the very top terrace where you get an incredible view of the city and St. Peter’s Basilica — especially from the windows. There’s also a little café up there where you can relax with a cappuccino and just take it all in. Plan to give yourself a couple of hours — it’s much larger inside than it looks from the street. Definitely one of those places that feels magical and peaceful, even in busy Rome. Highly recommend!
Jeannie W — Google review
We visited Castel Sant'Angelo after sunset and even without going inside, it was a breathtaking experience. The castle is dramatically lit against the night sky, creating a powerful and majestic silhouette that towers over the Tiber River. The atmosphere around the castle and on the Ponte Sant'Angelo bridge was romantic and serene. Seeing the illuminated angels on the bridge with the castle as a backdrop felt like something out of a movie. It was much less crowded than during the day, making it perfect for a peaceful evening stroll. While we're sure the interior is fascinating, the exterior alone is absolutely worth seeing at night. It's a fantastic free way to appreciate one of Rome's most iconic landmarks in a truly magical light. Highly recommend for an evening walk!
Khalid A — Google review
One of the most impressive historical landmarks in Rome. The architecture is absolutely stunning, and the views from the top are breathtaking you can see the Tiber River, St. Peter’s Basilica, and much of the city’s skyline. The interior is filled with fascinating history, from ancient Roman times to its use as a papal fortress. The museum inside is well-organized with informative displays and beautiful artworks. I really enjoyed walking through the corridors, courtyards, and terraces that tell the story of centuries past. It’s definitely a must-visit spot in Rome, especially around sunset when the light makes the whole place glow.
Saeed B — Google review
Castel Sant’Angelo impressed me with its massive structure and stunning views over Rome. Walking through the ramps, terraces, and old corridors felt like stepping between centuries of history. The rooftop panorama was the highlight, offering a beautiful look at the Tiber River and the city. A fascinating and memorable visit overall.
Juan T — Google review
Time well spent in Rome, even if all you want are views of Rome! We read everything about the castles extensive history. From the outside it is very obvious where it gets added on and added on. I like that dichotomy of the sparseness in the mosaleum and then the richness of the papal apartments.. There were lots of lovely exhibits and vantage spots. You do need to watch your surroundings, we saw many people miss small exhibits that were just to the left or right if a stair. Only about 5 people we saw walked around the entire castle on the outter gates, missing some great views of the bridge below. Not really for people with mobility issues, although the castle certainly tries, there are just a lot of stairs!
Sara R — Google review
Phenomenal and beautiful castle almost in the center of the Rome. I can recommend to do a tour inside where is a lot of things to see. Inside you can see for example : models of the castle from past, different soldiers armours from the different times ago, swords, axes a many other things . It is like one big museum. From the top of the castle is unbelievable view for all Rome. And you can see the statue of saint Angelo. Absolutely phenomenal !! You must see it .
Jakub A — Google review
An iconic symbol of Rome, and one of my favorite places in this city. They always have one or more small rotating exhibits that offer an excuse to come back over and over again. Beautiful in the daytime, even better after dark and illuminated. Don't miss the strategically located bar ristorante with breathtaking views of Rome and of St Peter's. Reservations for general admission to the castle generally not necessary unless a popular exhibit is happening. A separate ticket will be required if you're interested in a tour of the "Passetto", the Pope's secret escape passage. Advanced reservations and planning are highly recommended for this tour that may be only on limited days and times.

Giardino degli Aranci, also known as The Garden of Oranges, is a tranquil and secluded public square located on the Aventino hill in Rome. This beautiful park is filled with fragrant orange trees and offers stunning views over the city and the Tiber River. Situated behind the Basilica of Santa Sabina, it provides visitors with a picturesque panorama of Rome's terracotta roofs and grand basilicas that punctuate the skyline.
Beautiful park with a lot of shade from the umbrella pines. Orange trees also present 👍. Very peaceful. Potable water fountain is nice and fresh. The view of the city is still blocked for construction as of 09/2025. Maybe it will be done next year.
Laurens — Google review
Beautiful place to watch the sunset! 🌅 There was some construction going on when I visited, which partly blocked the view, but I still managed to capture some lovely photos. The garden is smaller than I expected, yet absolutely charming. Peaceful atmosphere — people strolling around, a man playing the violin, birds singing, and beautiful trees all around. It felt like a little fairytale. ✨
Ana K — Google review
Beautiful gardens with a beautiful view of Romes skyline great for a sunset. Unfortunately there is restoration work at the moment so ruins what could be a magical view but when it is finished it will be great again
Beth J — Google review
Beautiful garden! Pity that the place to see the panoramic view is currently under construction. Everyone minds their own business whether it’s dog owners having fun with their four-legged friends, a yoga group, or a serene watercolor painter. The garden itself has a very calming atmosphere.
Murad S — Google review
Cool spot for sunset, but it's under construction, so you can't go on the steps. You will need to put your phone through the fence to get a sunset Pic. Gets busy for sunset, so get there 30 min before or you won't have a spot to stick phone through the fence for the photo.

They had close the balcony. There is not enough to see. The walk to the garden is nice and the neighborhood is full of history . There is ‘ the mouth of the truth’ in the front garden door and free drinking watter

Located in the Villa Borghese Gardens in Rome, Orologio ad acqua del Pincio is an ornate water-powered clock dating back to 1867. Designed by Father Giovanni Battista Embriaco, this monument sits on a green islet at the center of a small lake and consists of four dials. While it may be easy to miss, the surrounding park offers plenty of picturesque spots and activities such as running and rollerblading lessons.
This lovely grandfather clock in the (Villa Borghese Gardens, Rome) is located in park and is a very nice well kept statue. It’s a very beautiful park, and it’s a very nice monument to the king. It’s fairly large and it’s worth the trip visiting this lovely park and checking out this statue and others located in and around the area. I enjoyed my time here and would definitely recommend taking a nice long walk in this park and seeing the sites.

A clock on a small island surrounded by water. Perfect to take a picture and see the time! Absolutely gorgeous to see!
Marc B — Google review
Water clock in a working condition from the 18th century. The clock is placed a bit high in a small lake in the Borghese garden.
Sumanta C — Google review
I just love it 😻 no tourists, finally some quiet space after day spent on sightseeing
Lilia C — Google review
Tucked away in the gardens of the Pincian Hill (Pincio), just above Piazza del Popolo, the Orologio ad Acqua surrounding gardens offer panoramic views of Rome, and the peaceful environment provides a welcome break from the city’s bustle. It’s a place where you can sit, reflect, and appreciate the slower rhythms of time — both literally and metaphorically. Tips: Combine it with a sunset walk through Villa Borghese or a visit to the nearby Terrazza del Pincio for a full experience. Great spot for photos, but even better for those who love quirky historical finds. There’s not a lot of signage, so read up a little before you go or bring a guide.
Susana H — Google review
This is a fascinating hydrochronometer, designed and built in 1867 by Giovanni Battista Embriaco, a Dominican priest from Liguria with a passion for clockmaking and engineering. Installed in 1873 in the large park of Villa Borghese in Rome, the clock measures time from the center of an oval fountain in Viale dell'Orologio, designed by architect Gioacchino Ersoch. Presented at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, the clock created by the brilliant Embriaco immediately attracted the interest of many international experts, who bought the patent to embellish the public fountains of their cities.

Church
St. Peter's Basilica is a Late Renaissance church designed by a team of renowned architects, including Michelangelo and Carlo Maderno. It is considered the holiest church in Christendom and one of only four Major Basilicas in the world.
Visiting St. Peter’s Basilica was one of the most breathtaking experiences of my trip to Rome and the Vatican. The sheer size, beauty, and spiritual atmosphere of this place are beyond words. From the moment you step into St. Peter’s Square and see the majestic façade and dome designed by Michelangelo, you feel you are in the presence of history and faith intertwined in the most beautiful way. Inside, every corner of the basilica is a masterpiece the marble floors, golden ceilings, and magnificent sculptures create an atmosphere of reverence and awe. The Pietà by Michelangelo is one of the most moving works of art I have ever seen, and the main altar beneath the grand dome is simply spectacular. The attention to detail in every artwork and architectural element is astonishing. If you climb to the top of the dome, the view is absolutely worth it! You can see all of Vatican City, the rooftops of Rome, and the distant hills it’s truly magical. The climb can be steep, but reaching the top and looking down at the square is an unforgettable moment. The basilica is well organized, and the staff maintain a respectful and peaceful environment. Entry is free, though lines can be long, so going early in the morning is a great idea. Overall, St. Peter’s Basilica is not just a church it’s a journey through art, history, and faith. Whether you are religious or not, this place will touch your soul with its beauty and grandeur. An absolute must-visit when in Rome or Vatican City.
Lg G — Google review
Awesome and powerful!!!! The artworks and architecture leave you feeling inspired and uplifted! This place is so holy. You feel the power of God here. The building itself is an architectural marvel, and the inside is filled with incredible works of art. It’s definitely worth the trip to see it, you will be amazed. If you can handle many stairs, it is definitely worth it to go to the top of the dome. There’s an elevator to take you halfway up, but you’ll have to climb the stairs the rest of the way and it’s not an easy climb. However, the view from the top is breathtaking and you can see the entire Vatican City and Rome. Be prepared for large crowds of tourists everywhere inside and outside! I went on a weekday during off-season and it was still packed. Loved all the artwork of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ! All glory to God! Amen!
Holly P — Google review
Another mind blowing historical architectural marvel! Entered via an entrance from underneath after visiting the Necropolis (did a tour, absolutely amazeballs... different review). Visited St Peter's Tomb underground (controversial but not for a google map debate ;)... thought provoking though!). Cool that I could walk 'upstairs' and see the High Alter that is situated directly above and how everything was built around the tomb after seeing the different levels below. Historically and religiously significant, beautiful, opulent. There's lots of people as expected, just like you see on YouTube lol. But its worth it, and... you're in Rome. There's lots of people. The bascillica/s were basically built to keep the remains of St Peter safe. The first bascillica was built in the 4th century and the current bascillica started in 1506 and took just over a century to build. In this timeframe 20 popes oversaw its development keeping the tomb protected. Different artistic/architectural influences over time including Michelangelo's great hand which gives you some idea of the vibe there.
Kiwi C — Google review
Amazing basilica. Definitely worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. Amazing arhitecture, artwork, sculptures, paintings. Incredible view from the top of the dome, if you visit the basilica be sure to not miss out if you are not afraid of higts, and you are not claustrophobic because the way up tends to take you through narrow stair ways. It's an amazing place, one of a kind in the world at this magnitude. Buy tickets in advance.
Robert S — Google review
The visit to Saint Peter's Basilica was a must see, especially during special religious days or events. The wait line to get in was long, but it moved fairly quickly. Security was easy to get through. Once in the Basilica you will be struck with beautiful and awe at the size, splendor, and beauty of the space. Every wall is decorated. The dome is absolutely beautiful. Even though there were many people inside there was a dedicated space for personal prayer near the front of the alter. There is so much detail and history within the walls of Saint Peter's and the Vatican. I would most definitely recommend anyone to visit Vatican City and step into the Basilica.
Matthew M — Google review
St. Peter’s Basilica is one of those rare places that completely exceeds expectations, no matter how many photos or documentaries you’ve seen before visiting. The moment you step through the doors, you’re struck by its sheer scale and splendor — the soaring dome, the intricate marble floors, the soft echo of footsteps, and the quiet sense of reverence that fills the air. It’s not just architecture; it’s a living masterpiece. Michelangelo’s Pietà is an emotional centerpiece — delicate, powerful, and impossibly detailed. Bernini’s grand bronze canopy rises like a sculpture of light beneath the dome, drawing your eyes upward in awe. Every inch of the basilica feels alive with centuries of devotion, artistry, and history. Climbing to the top of the dome is an experience not to be missed. The narrow stairways and spiral paths eventually open up to one of the most breathtaking views in all of Rome — the Vatican, St. Peter’s Square, and the city’s terracotta rooftops stretching out toward the horizon. Go early to avoid crowds, dress respectfully, and give yourself time to linger. St. Peter’s Basilica isn’t just a stop on a sightseeing list — it’s a place that leaves a quiet, lasting impression on your heart.
Chen Z — Google review
Absolutely beautiful! The moment you walk in, you can’t help but be amazed by the high ceilings, incredible paintings, and the stunning details everywhere you look. The scale and artistry are breathtaking — pictures just don’t do it justice. A truly awe-inspiring place to visit!

Saint Peter’s Basilica is an absolute must-visit in Rome and one of the most magnificent landmarks in the world. As one of the four Holy Doors during the Jubilee year, it holds deep spiritual significance. The architecture is breathtaking, and every corner is filled with masterpieces — from Michelangelo’s Pietà to the grand dome offering stunning views. The interior is both majestic and peaceful, a true testament to centuries of devotion and artistry. Whether you come for faith, history, or beauty, this basilica leaves an unforgettable impression. Truly one of the greatest treasures of Vatican City and all of Rome.

Terrazza Panoramica Passeggiata del Gianicolo is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to soak in the breathtaking beauty of Rome. Perched atop Janiculum Hill, this stunning terrace offers an unparalleled panoramic view of the city, especially during sunset when the skyline transforms into a canvas of vibrant colors. From here, you can gaze upon iconic landmarks such as the Pantheon’s dome and Villa Borghese, making it one of the most picturesque spots in Rome.
100% recommend popping up here for the sun rise, you will not be disappointed! Plus, there's a small cafè with the most delicious coffee & pastries!

Janiculum Hill, also known as Gianicolo in Italian, is a historic and romantic hilltop terrace that offers breathtaking panoramic views of Rome. The ascent to the hill provides beautiful walkways surrounded by greenery and stunning vistas of the city, including ancient ruins, monuments, and Baroque domes. Atop Janiculum Hill stands the impressive Fountain of Acqua Paola, adorned with high-reliefs of angels and demons.
Great spot for a sunset, people there with stands for beer. Often buskers too for atmosphere, definitely the best evening we finished in Rome before heading to the Square for a sing along and dance

Difficult to reach on foot as it is on top of a hill. Easy to reach by car or bus. Very beautiful monument .A big garden nearby. You can take nice sunset view photos and enjoy a small snack or a soft drink sitting in the edge. ( no cafe). Cool breeze. There is usually someone playing music.

On strolling up to the top of the hill, you can visit a very old church and several spots that give you a panoramic view of Rome. St. Peter's dome is in the line of sight through the trees. A very nice place to visit while in town. Not many tourists so you can have all the time you want.

Well worth the hike and to watch the cannon fire. Loos are also €1 but they are very clean and well stocked. Very nice.

Perfect place to watch both sunrise and sunset. It does get quite busy for sunset but since it’s a large overlook there are plenty of places you can see the Sun from. My friend mentioned that the trees are a bit in the way but we were a 15 minute walk from the hill so it was the perfect location for me. Barely anyone was there for sunrise so it was a very peaceful moment for me and my friend. I recommend getting there at least 30 minutes early if you want to see all of the different sky changes. If you’re ever there for Festa della Repubblica you can also see the jets fly over with the flag colors from the hill.

Parco degli Acquedotti, also known as Aqueducts Park, is a part of the larger Appia Antica Regional Park in Rome. It features ancient Roman aqueducts and archaeological sites, including the junction point of the water network of ancient Rome. The park encompasses a stretch of 16 kilometers along Via Appia and its surroundings, offering visitors a glimpse into the historical significance of these structures.
A stunning park full of history. We visited the Park of the Aqueducts as we wanted to see not only the aqueducts but also the filming locations for the Grande Bellezza and Ripley. I am also a huge Roman history buff so wanted to see these incredible structures up close! The park is not only full of history but also very peaceful and pretty. It is popular with runners and dog walkers. We visited on a cold but bright February day. I can imagine in the summer it is a great place for a picnic. It’s on the outskirts of central Rome but well worth the visit.

This park is am amazing Hidden gem in the edges of Rome, its a short, convenient ride on the metro line A, this park has incredible history, being home to the ruins of the Claudian aqueducts (aqua Claudia that were built in the 1st century CE under the rule of the emperor Calligula (Giaus Julius Caesar Germanicus) to carry water from the Apennine mountains straight to the heart of Rome. this park also has an amazing network of paths and trails weaving in and out of the aqueducts. and if you're feeling peckish there are plenty of cafes and restaurants in the area for you to choose from. Atmosphere: 5/5 Walkways: 5/5 History: 5/5 Facilities: 4/5 Overall: 5/5

Such a beautiful park!!! It was hard to get to from our Airbnb (bus and metro) which is probably why there weren’t many tourists here but it was so worth it. It has the most stunning views. It felt like another world. We came here for sunset and it was a highlight of my Rome trip.

We came here with the Metro orange line, getting off at Guilin Agricola according to google maps, and we left from Lucio Sestio station. On the way in, there is a small children’s playground but it is so helpful for us with our 5 years old son. The facility is well maintained. After the playground, we entered the fields through the small aqueduct. Then we reached a little stream. It was very beautiful with the willow trees and different plans. Once we crossed the stream we kept right to the biggest aqueduct. We climbed up to an old fort (maybe) to have our picnic there. From there, you can see the trains running past. It was a fun place for younger children. Locals use the well built paths to do running. Overall, if you are a bit tired of the crowds in the city, this is a great place to get some fresh air and enjoy the sun. Pack up your lunch and enjoy!

Really great and quiet park. We did go on a Monday morning at 8am so not sure if it becomes busy during the day; but at our time it was perfect, just local people walking their dogs :) It's fascinating to think that this was built to long ago with that amount of precision.

Scenic park with ruins of various Roman aqueducts. Easy to get to via metro plus some walking. Beautiful park. There's also an old road that pre-dates Roman times, "via Latina antica"

…a little quiet with sonics of trains swirling afar. It’s got a vibe not seen in the tourist center of Roma. I visited the park at the sunset, and many things in the park feel surreal, as if touched by a primordial feeling..

One of the best things I've seen to date. These are real ruins without the crowd making it actually fun and it allows you to really take in history.

The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater, is a monumental 3-tiered Roman amphitheater located in the center of Rome. It has stood for over 2,000 years as a symbol of Ancient Rome's architectural ingenuity and engineering advancements. This iconic structure entertained more than 50,000 spectators with gladiatorial fights, mock sea battles, and exotic animal hunts for over 400 years.
It's definitely one of the must see place. It truly stands it's popularity and what a architectural masterpiece. I would definitely recommend buying tickets in advance or best way to do is via tour guide. You would need a photo ID to enter whether you are going by yourself or through tour guide. We enjoyed the entire experience and learning about how gladiators used to use this place. Untill I visited the place I never knew it's complexity and vastness. We travelled as a family with a child. We were told not to take pram as pathways are not smooth, but it's manageable. I would definitely recommend this place.

Was a great site to see while on tour around the Eternal City. They recently cleaned the facade of the building so the stone is now clean and bright. Its usually very crowded for most of the day unless you come early in the morning. The guides were very nice and gave us a lot of cool information about the history of the Colosseum. Definitely a great place to see at least once while visiting Rome.

This was cool. As a tourist from outside Italy this was a cool thing to do. We did a tour and our tour guide was excellent, highly recommend. Our tour guide was called Valerio and he knew so much history, for any question you had he had an answer to. Highly recommend doing a tour. This was a neat part of history to see in Italy and very cool to see it in person.

This is one of the nicest places in The world. Colosseum is indeed one of list of destinations that you simply can’t missed when you are in Rome. It was one in a lifetime worth experience for me. Our tour guide (Bogdan) was fantastic. He was very informative; felt we got a lot of additional information that you wouldn't get without a good guide. He clearly has a personal interest in learning about the history of Rome, which he shared with us. He was a lot of fun and made the experience personal and throughly enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour. Thank you .

Been seeing photos and videos of this breathtaking piece of history my whole life, now was the time to see it in person. We had a guided tour which meant we got in really quickly with no wait time. We visited 10th Nov 2025 and whilst the crowds were still quite busy, we did not get stuck in any queues. A really good experience with plenty to see and learn. Highly recommended.

Visited Colosseum with the attic ticket and climbed to the highest view point in colosseum. Absolutely stunning views and experience looking down the whole colosseum. You will be in awe of the size of it, and just imagine how it was like , 2000 years ago. Attic ticket was very exclusive as there are very few slots and tickets kept being bought immediately after a particular time slot opened up on the official site. Suggest to monitor regularly for it. Wait was minimal as the line was short and moved quickly.

Verdict: great experience! You should go! We went for a night tour of the colosseum, which I had booked in advance through AirBnB or Aviator. It was kind of difficult to find the entry point as there was some construction, but eventually we (the guests) found each other and found the way in. So if it happens to you, stay calm and find your people ☺️ It was great to hear the history of the colosseum and see how much truth there is in the movies we had seen. The kids enjoyed the visit, the mystery that the nighttime brought, and they also enjoyed seeing it the next day in the daytime. The colosseum is right next to other historical sites, the Roman Forum (for which you need a ticket to enter),good food, and fresh water (a really cool thing about Rome’s history that is tangible and useful today)

The Pantheon, a temple built in 118-125 A.D., is one of Rome's most iconic and well-preserved ancient Roman monuments. Originally dedicated to all deities, it now serves as a Catholic church. The structure features a dome and Renaissance tombs, including that of Raphael. Visitors are often impressed by its peculiar design, myths, and stories related to the hole in its roof and special astronomical light effects.
An amazing structure from early Roman days. Such a well preserved artefact in the heart of Rome. Although it is very busy and touristy around the pantheon most days, we would still recommend everyone to make time during their stay in Rome and visit this incredible site. The structure is truly phenomenal with such incredible detail. That it has survived for so many years is a true testament to the architecture and the build of this incredible and fascinating structure. Lineups can be long to get inside but well worth the wait. There are several wonderful little cafés in the area where you can sit and enjoy a coffee or even a beer or wine while you admire The Pantheon while enjoying a drink or a snack. We would highly recommend The Pantheon to be a part of your visit in Rome. Paul and Andrea Canada 🇨🇦

The Pantheon is an absolutely breathtaking sight from the outside. Its massive, ancient columns and the grand inscription are incredibly impressive, and it's amazing to stand in front of a structure with so much history. We unfortunately didn't get to go inside because the line was very long, wrapping around the piazza. It was a bit disappointing, but even just seeing the exterior and feeling the energy of the square was worth the visit. We'd definitely recommend seeing it, but maybe aim for an off-peak time if you want to avoid the wait and actually get inside! It's still a magnificent landmark to experience.

We didn’t go inside because the line was very long, but even just standing in front of the Pantheon was incredible. The building is so well-preserved and truly breathtaking — it instantly captures your attention. You can really feel the history and grandeur just by looking at it from the outside. A must-see in Rome!

An awe-inspiring masterpiece that truly lives up to its reputation. Even with the summer crowds and a rather long queue, the wait was well worth it. The moment you step inside, the cool air, gentle light from the oculus, and perfect harmony of architecture take your breath away. Every detail tells a story of centuries past, yet the space feels timeless and alive. A must-see in Rome — both humbling and unforgettable.

Incredible historic monument. The dome is completely made of concrete! There’s a hole in the top of the dome which allows rain to come into the Pantheon! When you’re inside the dome, it feels like you are standing inside of an eye, looking through the iris, or the top of the dome. This is the resting place of the incredible artist Ascended Master Raphael! His tomb is here, and you can visit him there. This Pantheon has been made to be a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, praising our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Holly P — Google review
A must visit when in Rome. An architectural masterpiece. Being incredibly well maintained, One is able to see the Pantheon as the Roman’s would have seen it in their time. Pictures don’t do it justice. I would recommend getting their early morning 9am so you beat the crowds. The audio guide (most languages) is available once you are inside. At 10 euro it is fantastic value as it gives a great understanding of all things about the Pantheon. Entry is quite cheap too, you can cover it all in an hour!

The Pantheon is an absolute masterpiece, breathtaking in every sense. The moment you step inside and look up at that majestic dome with the open oculus, you’re left in pure awe. It’s incredible to think that this structure has stood strong for nearly 2,000 years! The harmony of light, space, and symmetry is simply magical. Whether you love history, architecture, or just beauty itself — the Pantheon is a must-visit. Truly one of the most inspiring places on Earth.

The Roman Forum is a sprawling archaeological site in Rome, featuring ancient temples, squares, and government buildings dating back 2,000 years. It's more of an open-air museum than a conventional one and is a must-visit for first-time visitors to Rome. Despite the crowds and the need to use your imagination due to the ruins, it offers a glimpse into the glory of the ancient empire.
We went to the Roman forum around 10am to spend a few hours before our timed colosseum tickets. We entered at the top of a big hill so there was no wait. There are many entrances so I doubt anyone would have to wait too long. The space was so large and there were few maps so I kept worrying I was missing important things. It’s easy to get lost and forget what you’ve seen but after exploring for about 3 hours, the map on our way out showed we happened to do it all anyway! We skipped going into the museums inside just due to stamina, as you could be there ALL day and not see it all. There were many water ‘fountains’ around which was nice and bathrooms seemed easily accessible. Lots of cool things to see. We had the “full experience” ticket which I would recommend to anyone because within the forum there were several spots where only those with “full experience” tickets could access. I believe you can get tickets that allow access to one specific extra area but id skip the stress and get the full experience ticket. Less confusing that way as well. The photo with the large stair case was where we climbed up and entered not long after that.

It's a plaza surrounded by ancient ruins of official government buildings. It was the main marketplace. It's definitely worth visiting if you are seeing colosseum. I came to know about it when we booked our colosseum tour as a package. It's a fascinating place with full of history, but lacks maps and information board. Do allow few hours to walk as it's a massive place plus some places it's bit hilly. Near the exit there is a cafe which is a bonus point.

Huge Place, where you can imagine how people lived 2000 years ago, how buildings were huge and how incredible was architecture in that times. Beautiful place with full of history. In the past area was split and dedicated to more Ceasars, like Nervo, Augustus, etc . You have to see it , it's great place to get history into mind :) Tickets you can buy together with colloseum.

Formerly the center of public life in ancient Rome. I went here as part of my coliseum tour. Not as much grandeur of the coliseum, of course, but it was fascinating to walk through the old heart of the Eternal City, not to mention the ruins of Octavian/Augustus' palace.

Amazing to see. Could easily spend all day there. We entered by "Via dei Fori Imperiali" which was a lot quieter than the entrance by the colosseum. Toilets dotted around and we found 1 cafe by our entrance. Really worth seeing.

What a place! We bought the combined ticket with the Colosseo entrance. Visited the Colosseo at 9 am and by 10:15 we were at the Forum, thankfully, because when we left at around 1pm, the line was so big that it went around the other street. The place is huge and you can easily get "lost"or not see some interesting parts. Tip: download some map so that you can undertand where you are at the moment. Very impressive and i left with my heart full!

The Spanish Steps, also known as Scalinata della Trinita dei Monti in Italian, is a stunning 18th-century stairway located in Rome. With its unique butterfly-shaped design and 138 steps, it is a masterpiece of Roman Baroque architecture. The steps lead to the Church of Trinita dei Monti and overlook the Piazza di Spagna, where the famous Barcaccia fountain is located.
As one of Rome's most famous attractions, it's recommended to arrive in the morning. The blue sky and white clouds make for excellent photos. However, due to the large number of tourists, it's best to arrive at 9:00 at the latest. This way, you can get a photo without too many tourists. The entire attraction is not very large. Looking up, you will see the church, and below you will see the famous shopping street. You can easily spend a morning here.

I visited the Spanish Steps and really enjoyed exploring the area around them. The atmosphere was lively and full of energy, with people sitting on the steps, taking photos, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The view from the top is amazing, and the nearby streets are filled with elegant shops, cafés, and historical buildings. It’s one of those iconic spots in Rome where you can just sit, relax, and take in the charm of the city. Definitely worth a visit.

We visited the Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna, and it's every bit as iconic as you'd imagine. The atmosphere is vibrant and full of life, though it was a little crowded when we were there, which is to be expected at such a famous spot. The view from the top of the steps, looking down over the piazza and the rooftops of Rome, is absolutely stunning. At the bottom, the Fontana della Barcaccia is a beautiful and unique centerpiece. It was lovely to see people gathered around the "sinking boat" sculpture to take photos. Despite the crowds, it's one of those essential Roman experiences. Finding a spot on the steps to sit and take in the scene is a moment you won't forget. Just be prepared to share it with plenty of other admirers.

We visited the Spanish Steps at night, and it was very nice. The area was calm and not very crowded, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The steps were beautifully lit, creating a peaceful and romantic atmosphere far from the busy daytime scenes. It was the perfect time to take a quiet stroll, sit for a while, and admire the stunning architecture of the Trinità dei Monti church above and the charming Piazza di Spagna below. The view of the city lights in the distance added to the charm. I quickly realized how out of shape I was however. This is quite the climb. Everything was amazing however I ranked at a four because realistically its steps, there are a lot of amazing attractions and incredible architecture throughout the city. If you're in Rome, I do highly recommend visiting the Spanish Steps after dark—you get to enjoy one of the city's most iconic spots in a much more relaxed and intimate setting.

Magnificent piece of architecture. It has a great view from behind the pond. Try to go early in the day (before 7am) and you will find perfect views for pictures and to appreciate the beauty. Tourists necessarily sitting on the stairs just spoil the view. Dear tourists, once you have seen the view, please step aside and let others view and enjoy as well. On any time it is crowded but still manageable.

Popular location full of tourists. Lovely buildings surrounding the piazza, monument and the fountain at the bottom of the stairs. We were there during the day but I guess it would be even more spectacular at night. Especially the fountain. For best photos I think you should try shooting from bottom, behind the fountain ⛲️ From the top you can catch a good photo of that narrow street with lovely buildings on both sides.

Villa Borghese is a sprawling urban park in Rome, featuring meticulously landscaped gardens, an artificial lake with a temple, and several villas that now house important museums. The park also includes an aviary, an orangery, and various other charming buildings and follies. It was designed in the English style by Scottish artist Jacob More for the Borghese family in the 1770s.
Such a huge and amazing garden! Everything was so tidy and beautiful, with fresh air everywhere. We ended up at a lovely small lake where we rented a boat for only €5 per person for 20min— it was really fun! The weather was perfect too, which made the whole experience even better. Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our time at Villa Borghese. We didn't go to the gallery or the lake, and we still had a great time just walking around. The best part was the park itself. It's full of amazing trees that are tall, old, and really beautiful. They give lots of nice shade, which makes it perfect for a relaxing walk, even on a warm day. The paths are wide and easy to follow, leading you through green lawns and pretty gardens. It's a quiet and calm place to take a break from the busy city. We just found a bench, sat down, and enjoyed the peaceful feeling. If you want a simple, nice escape in Rome, we definitely recommend coming here for a stroll.

We traveled to here twice from outside Rome. From Termini you can take bus bit can be crowded and also you can walk if you have time and ability. We explores the playground area both times. Playground is not large but has fun equipment and you can picnic on the grounds. Chairs for adults all around and large climbing structures with a slide. Playground outdoors is free to use. It is accessible with a stroller and next to the playground there is a cafe with accessible toilets which covers snacks and bathroom needs for little kids. Next to the playground you can do pony rides which cost seven euros cash. Then game machines and car course, you need to buy special coins with cash or card to play the machines. We also tried the mini movie theater with both kids. It was a long show but kids loves it. They had a snack booth for packages popcorn , candy and drinks. There is a fun train that rides around the park and also to the zoo. Then if you walk around the park you can find icecream or snack stands sparsely put. They rent out carriage bikes so you have to be careful when walking because people can go fast or avoid driving paths. Nature is lovely. If you need cash bring beforehand because ai had to walk out for 20 min or more outside to finally find an ATM available on a Sunday. A lot more to explore and nearby there is the Explora museum for kids.

Brief Summary and Disappointment from a Visit to Villa Borghese, Rome Villa Borghese is the largest and most famous public park in Rome, known as the city's "green lung" and the gateway to a beautiful garden (which contains the Borghese Gallery). Main Sources of Enjoyment: An Escape from the Hustle: The park is an excellent place to relax and escape the crowds and noise of the city center. Key Landmarks: The park contains the Terrazza del Pincio with its perfect view, the picturesque Temple of Aesculapius on the lake, various fountains, and opportunities to rent bikes or rowboats. The Common Disappointment (and Explanation): Disappointment often stems from the fact that: The Park Itself is Simple: Unlike many highly formal Italian gardens, most of Villa Borghese is designed as a large English-style park and does not feature manicured or "secret" elaborate landscaping around every corner. It is perceived by some visitors as "just a large park," which can feel too "prosaic." The Gallery is the Main Event: The true and monumental attraction in the area is the Borghese Gallery (Galleria Borghese), which requires booking tickets far in advance (sometimes months ahead!) and limits the visit to two hours. Visitors who failed to book a ticket in advance find themselves excluded from the main attraction and are left only with wandering the exterior park. In Conclusion: Villa Borghese offers a welcome break from the city. To avoid disappointment, you must book tickets for the Borghese Gallery well in advance. Without the Gallery, the park remains pleasant, tranquil, and photogenic, but it is not an extraordinary "must-see" destination on its own.

We happened on this and missed it. Looks like a beautiful gallery. Tickets were booking at least 2 weeks out. The gardens and park in front of it were lovely to walk through. On weekends there seemed to be lots of activities for families in the park. Can rent bikes etc there also.

Amazing park!! Entered through the popola piazza. We rented a motor-bicycle, since they had a drivers experience minimum to rent a golf kart. Went through the park with ease. Not very crowded when I visited (August, mid-morning). You can't access all areas with the Kart, and some areas were closed off but not shown in maps.

Very beautiful and big park for walking, relaxing, and many other options! Free entrance but we rent car with pedals to move and small boat to go around the lake! Nice experience,I suggest it!

Circus Maximus, also known as Circo Massimo, is an ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium that could accommodate 250,000 spectators. It was the first and largest of its kind in the Roman Empire. Over time, it fell into decline and served various purposes before being excavated and restored. Today, Circus Maximus is a large public park in Rome where numerous events are held. The rectangular green space offers a dog-friendly environment for leisurely walks and exploration.
No crowds, amazing to see the size of a chariot race track. Makes me wonder if they do reconstructions sometimes - that would be exceptional to watch!! Walked down the length, considering the lives lost on that land. Completely free, 95% access (not wheelchair accessible unless you're great at steep, grassy hills!!), and a couple of lovely restaurants also nearby!

Nothing much here except for some historical architectures. Drop by here for a quick stop and snap the photo you want. Thereafter, move on to the farmers market where lots of rare brands and local foodstuffs are on sale.
Lucas T — Google review
Not much to see here, just at few remains at one end, but when you walk along the bottom from one end to the other, it gives you a sense of just how big the chariot races actually were. The arena used to hold an astonishing 250,000 spectators who were all drinking and betting on the outcome of the chariot races, essentially gambling on the fate of someone's life. Maybe the Roman government should consider rebuilding it with a modern twist.

The Circus Maximus in Rome is a truly magical place. Standing there today, it’s fascinating to imagine how it must have looked 2,000 years ago — the thunder of hooves, the speed of chariots, and the roar of the crowd. From Augustus’ palace on the Palatine Hill, Rome’s nobility once enjoyed a spectacular view of these thrilling races. I highly recommend visiting this historic site!

This was another event that a private tour would have been helpful. From what I could see at a distance, it looked quite historical and interesting. It was totally overcrowded although there was plenty of land to roam. It was quite a long walk with hilly terrain.

A walk through history! 🏛️🚶‍♂️ Circus Maximus may look like just a big grassy field at first, but once you realize what happened here centuries ago — epic chariot races, roaring crowds, and Roman spectacle — it really comes to life! 🐎🔥 Great spot for a peaceful walk, picnic, or just imagining ancient glory. 🌞 Would be even better with more interactive displays or AR guides. Still, a must-see in Rome! 🇮🇹✨

Circus Maximus: It’s incredible to walk around this huge open field and imagine the chariot races that once took place here. There isn’t much left to see structurally, but the history is all around you, and the view from the top of the hill is worth the stop.

Capitoline Hill, one of the seven hills of Ancient Rome, is a must-visit destination. Located by the north side of the Forum, it houses the renowned Capitoline Museums and features the Piazza del Campidoglio, designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti. The square also boasts a statue of Romulus and Remus.
This is a must visit if you are into history. You need tickets for the museum but not for the square. It is a bit of a walk with stunning views . There is a water fountain to refill your bottle towards the top of the hill.

One of the magnificent squares in Rome. I definitely think you should go on the road and take a tour of the square. However, for those who will stay in Rome for 2-3 nights, it would be better to be careful to spend more time. Since it is close to the Colosseum, it would be logical to stop by on the road after visiting there.

Aventine Hill, one of the seven hills of ancient Rome, is a tranquil neighborhood offering a break from the city center's hustle and bustle. This area boasts historical sites, elegant residential areas with stylish villas and shady gardens. It's home to some of the earliest Christian churches and provides an array of wining and dining opportunities. Visitors can escape the tourist crowds here while enjoying stunning views of Saint Peter's dome through a keyhole.
One of the best views in Roman. You can get a great panoramic view across the city. There is an old Roman church, which is plain but quite beautiful inside. You can also wander around the orange garden this is beautifully scented with citrus. It's also the site of the famous Avantine Keyhole. There was a long queue, but essentially you look through a tiny keyhole for an amazing view of St Peters. The best hill in the city!

A tranquil and affluent residential hill offering some of Rome's most surprising views. The famous Keyhole of the Priory of the Knights of Malta provides a perfectly framed view of St. Peter's dome, while the Orange Garden offers a sweeping sunset panorama.

Must see location in Rome. Not overrun with tourists apart from that keyhole thing. Lovely orange grove with sweeping city views, quaint basilica with friendly priest who wished me a bona sera.

This was a beautiful spot to wonder around with great views over the city. There was also the added bonus of the Aventine Keyhole. There was a line of people wanting to take their picture but it wasn't too long (but ensure your camera is ready to go when its your turn so you don't keep everyone else waiting behind you for too long).
Rachael T — Google review
I recommend it if you are going to be in the area and want to get a view of Rome from above. If you have limited time, or are concerned about the walking, then Castel Sant' Angelo is a much better option. I feel the view of the Vatican is better from there, and you can see Rome as well.
Bill K — Google review
Also where you can see St Peter's dome through a keyhole, but having already seen it did not stop this time because of the bus loads of tourists waiting in line. It's one of the original 7 hills of Rome and well worth a visit
Teri T — Google review
When in Rome do not miss to go on the Aventine Hill! You will be enchanted by the amazing panoramic views and the beautiful parks located there. The Aventine Hill is one of the seven hills on which Ancient Rome was built. We all know that St Peter's Dome is visible almost from everywhere due to its big dimension, here you also have the chance to look at the famous Dome directly from a Key Hole. Looking through the hole, you will be able to see the Cupola surrounded by trees and flowers too. How is it possible? Well, the Key Hole is in the door of thr 'secret garden': the gardens of the Priorato di Malta. Overall, its a good place where you find silence and enjoy the one of the views of Rome away from the noise of the city center.

Parco del Colle Oppio is a large public park in Rome, known for its ancient monuments such as Trajan's baths and the ruins of Emperor Nero's house, Domus Aurea. The park offers a green space to explore during the day and is also a popular spot to catch stunning sunsets with an amazing view of the Colosseum.
Parco del Colle Oppio is a peaceful park right next to the Colosseum, with a lot of history. This area was once home to the Baths of Trajan, built in the early 2nd century AD, and you can still see some ruins around the park. Walking here, you can really feel the mix of nature and history in the heart of Rome. The park is quiet in the morning and has nice views of the Colosseum between the pine trees. There are benches and shaded spots to relax. As a photographer, I sometimes bring my clients here for photos because it gives a different perspective of the Colosseum and a more relaxed atmosphere compared to the busy main square.

Nice historic and centric place specifically in the day. However some dirt, too many people and in the night not that safe I guess. But its history is amazing... Some arqueological remainings like Neros temple Domum aurea, Tiberius baths, close to the Colosseum and Foro Romanum. If you have time its nice to have a walk because its also on a hill where you cam enjoy a green view towards the Colosseo. But you can also just use it to walk to Roma Termini and see some history with different layers from Antiquity till Modernity.

Not the best park in the world but surely the best way towards the Colosseum. The trees are great and the ruins are just as old. It may be a little dusty, but it's a city park, so nothing unexpected there. Personally I had just as much fun exploring it as I had for the Colosseum itself.

The park’s facilities are great, skatepark, basket ball, volleyball, soccer, calesthenics which bring a lot of people together and it is all free. However, the caretakers need to do a better job at telling people to throw their rubbish in the bins. If you go early in the morning when the cleaners have not arrived yet, the volleyball court and skatepark are full of rubbish. Also the calesthenics equipments has been broken for months. There are loads of bins on in the park and they are emptied every day.

Perched atop the scenic Janiculum Hill, the Giuseppe Garibaldi Monument is a striking tribute to the renowned Italian patriot and general. Erected in 1895 by Emilio Gallori, this impressive equestrian statue towers nearly 30 feet high, offering visitors breathtaking panoramic views of Rome. From this vantage point, you can marvel at the city's iconic landmarks and appreciate its compact beauty.
The Giuseppe Garibaldi Monument sits proudly on a hill with a view that makes the climb worth every step. The statue itself is strong and commanding but it is the setting that really leaves a mark. From the top you get a wide calm view over the city with fresh air and a peaceful vibe. It is a great spot to pause take photos and just enjoy the quiet above the streets. The walk up is not too hard and the reward is a mix of history and scenery that feels balanced and refreshing. A beautiful place to catch your breath and reflect.

Good walk up from the city centre but it's well worth it. The views from the top are spectacular. You have a wide viewing area that is safely separated from the traffic. Some good options for snacks, coffee ☕️, souvenirs, etc. The monument itself is grand and it's worth walking around it, depending on light during the day, for your best shot. On the side of the monument is a small garden with plenty of benches to relax on. A lot of parking slots although most of them were already occupied. The tree lined street going down is a good shot to take too.

In 1883, one year after his death at Caprera on 2 June 1882, Parliament decided to dedicate a monument to him to celebrate his libertarian impetus and courageous battles. On 14 November, therefore, a contest was announced that would lead to the choice of a project for a sculptural work consisting of a majestic plinth crowned by a bronze statue of Garibaldi portrayed standing or on horseback to be placed in the garden of San Pietro in Montorio. Among the 37 sketches exhibited in the newly inaugurated Palazzo delle Esposizioni, the judging commission, made up of Monteverde, Boito, Rosa and Morelli, some members of Parliament, and the then Prime Minister, Agostino Depretis, won that of Emilio Gallori. The only request made to the artist was to make the sculptures that would have delimited the four sides of the monument more lively and dynamic, as they were considered too static and cold. In 1885, Gallori presented the new project and the proposal to place the monument on the top of Trastevere's hill, the summit of the new promenade and the most suitable place to host the simulacrum of the Italian leader and patriot's mighty personality. The site was granted on 15 May 1892 and the foundation stone was laid on 19 March 1895 in the presence of the royal family. The monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi was unveiled with great pomp on 20 September 1895, on the occasion of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Rome, in the presence of Umberto I and Margherita di Savoia, the Prime Minister, Francesco Crispi, the Mayor of the Italian Capital, Emanuele Ruspoli, as well as some Garibaldi veterans and about 60,000 people.A bronze and granite tribute to greatness Serene, riding his horse, the Hero of Two Worlds wears the iconic Magyar cap and the American poncho adopted in the Montevideo wars, and stands on a large Baveno granite pedestal on the base of which are carved the She-wolf of Rome, the Lion of Caprera and a frieze with weapons in use in ancient Rome, as well as four bas-reliefs – the Landing at Marsala, the Resistance at Boiada, the Defence of Rome in 1849 and Liberty – surmounted by four bronze sculptural groups depicting on the long sides, the allegories of Europe (with History and Genius) and America (with Industry and Trade); on the short sides, Luciano Manara's bersaglieri defending Rome in the Battle of 1849 and the 1860 Calatafimi fighters. On the left side of the pedestal is the famous phrase ROMA O MORTE (Rome or Death), uttered by Garibaldi during his speech at the gathering of the Red Shirts in Marsala on 19 July 1862.

The Giuseppe Garibaldi Monument is absolutely worth a visit! Perched high on the Janiculum Hill, it offers incredible panoramic views over Rome — you can see the domes, rooftops, and even St. Peter’s in the distance. The statue itself is impressive and a fitting tribute to Garibaldi, surrounded by history and atmosphere. Pizza restaurant
Bonci Pizzarium is not your typical restaurant in Vatican City. It's a small street-food shop that offers a unique combination of bakery and pizzeria, serving some of the best food in the area. Their specialty lies in crafting authentic Roman lunch with versatile toppings like porcini mushrooms and salted pork fat on their square pizzas, which are true to Roman street foods.
Take a number for the pizza at the door. The food was great and I would recommend if want roman style pizza. No dine in just take out. They might skip your number but just remind them if they do. They'll make sure they get to you. It is quite busy but worth the wait.
Edrik — Google review
I was lucky enough to be in Rome the day Bonci reopened, and I’d heard so much about it from foodie friends that I was really excited to finally try it. The pizza was good, with unique flavor combinations, though not quite the mind-blowing experience I was expecting. The meatball slice I ordered was actually served cold as it wasn’t warmed up enough, but the flavors still came through nicely. Overall, while it didn’t completely wow me, I’d still recommend a visit—especially given how highly it’s regarded by friends I trust as serious pizza lovers. Flavor

Not the typical Pizza. Located 1km walk North of Vatican. Local Rome neighborhood. Roman Pizza is different from NY or Napoli Pizza types. This Roman style ( Bonci), looks small but it's actually very thick and weighs much. I noticed that the top part is hardly heated, melted or charred at all ! You taste the ingredients that you ordered. The crust bottom skin (around 2mm) has a crispy thin bottom shell, ( photo) then normal pizza dough from middle to top. I estimate around total 10 mm thickness pizza dough bread. I could taste the high quality of the ingredients, tomato, cheese, ham , etc It's different, the first bites, then as you eat it, you appreciate the difference, you taste the high quality of the toppings. Then it becomes also very delicious !

Overall good place to try if you wanna try different types of pizzas and not your typical crust - in a good way! Service takes a bit of time due to the way they operate and there’s very little seating so make sure you plan to takeaway if you want to sit to eat. The vibe is hip and fun and the servers were kind.
Karolyn J — Google review
This place was very hyped up for being the best pizza in Rome. Safe to say, it was very far from it. The queue ahead of us took over an hour, so we just went to get a coffee and came back. The pizza did look good, but unfortunately it lacked a bit of flavour and was not warm. The arancini was actually pretty solid, but overall not quite worth the wait. Prices are slightly steeper, but the total was 30 which was too much for 2, basically 15 a person which is very fair. Theres super limited seating, very overcrowded and loud. They do play some good music which was appreciated. Theres not much to do in the area around either. Would not recommend to trek for.

We ordered Supplì Classico and Carbonara — both were amazing! After that, we tried two different pizzas, and they were really tasty too. We also had two beers with the meal, and the total was 35.58 euros.

It’s a style of pizza unique to the area and one I’m not accustomed to, so I may not be best suited to rate it. But, in general, it seemed pricey and overhyped for what it was. I thought the suppli was good and the service excellent, but the pizza is not something I’d go back for.

I absolutely didn’t like this place. For the first time in Italy, I left my food unfinished because it was so bad. The service was unpleasant, and the staff were rude. There weren’t even any labels showing what kind of pizza it was. I strongly do not recommend this place. And it’s really expensive- one slice of pizza approximately 10 euros. And as well there is no place to sit so we had to eat outside standing. Huge disappointment.

FULL of food tour groups touting "the best of Rome." Part of a new generation of trendy spots that may not actually be Italian. Host generously gifted a glass of prosecco when we couldn't be sat for our reservation due to large food tour groups doing tagliere tastings. The good: cut, chew and cook of guanciale on the carbonara Is perfect. Barolo by the glass (€15) is tasty, and the small wine list well curated. Service is a bit inattentive, though very hospitable once they have a moment for you. Zucchini "pie/tart" was actually crustless, a sformatino, delicious with Parmesan cream and pickled red onion, the paprika accent completely lost. Ricotta and porcini ravioli (€23 for five) with saffron cream had almost no taste of mushroom, came out nearly cold, and the small amount of saffron cream a bit too dry and tacky, not warm and flowing, but it was a pretty yellow color. Tagliatelle on the carbonara was overcooked, and the sauce mostly forgettable. Torta Caprese with canned whipped light cream was spot on in chocolate/almond flavor, but very dry and crumbly. The pistachio cream was a miniscule afterthought, not even a garnish. We were generously gifted a tasting of (not a Roman thing) limoncello to finish, a charming touch. Drafty room near the front sliding door on a chilly night, unkempt bathrooms, power repeatedly went out. Lots of energy and hip feeling, but certainly not a "secret." No reason to seek this place out until they figure out what really makes a place special and do away with the multiple simultaneous (at one point over 2/3 of the entire restaurant) tasting-only in-and-out food tour groups. You can do much better and more Italian/less touristy in Rome for less money with more attentive service. Still these are very friendly and charming staff, when you can get their attention. €95 for 2 people sharing 1 app, 2 pastas, 1 dolce, and three glasses of wine.

We came because of the good review and the overall experience was lovely! Sid was really friendly and gave us welcome drinks, regularly checked on us and was so attentive. Top notch service from him! We didn’t wait too long for the food, which were delicious (especially the tiramisu), and we also liked the ambience of the restaurant.

We had the best experience here after visiting the Vatican, and a huge part of that was thanks to Sid. He’s one of those servers you remember long after the meal. Funny, genuinely personable, and full of energy in a way that makes the whole place feel even more alive. He didn’t just take our order—he guided us through the menu like a friend who really wants you to try the good stuff. And the food? unreal. Fresh, full of flavor, and easily some of the best we’ve had in Rome. It’s the perfect spot to unwind after the Vatican—just a few steps away, no stress, and you instantly feel taken care of. If you come here (and you should), ask for Sid. We left smiling, happy, and already talking about coming back. Highly recommend.

After a long day exploring the Colosseum and other attractions, my best friend and I were quite exhausted. Since we were also celebrating a birthday, we wanted to find a special place for dinner. After a bit of searching, we decided on Il Segreto — the restaurant looked stunning online, and the menu promised many intriguing dishes. Plus, it was conveniently close to where we were staying. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and offered a glass of prosecco. Shortly after ordering our wine, we were surprised with a complimentary dish from the chef — a true work of art on a plate. The presentation was beautiful, but what impressed me most was how harmoniously all the flavors came together. And that was just the beginning. For our starter, we ordered bruschetta — and honestly, I’ve never had one so delicious. The mozzarella and tomatoes were of outstanding quality. Then came the highlight of the evening and the reason we had chosen this place — the grilled octopus. I must say, I’ve never eaten octopus that tasted this good! Everything on the plate worked perfectly together — the texture, the balance, the flavors — simply exceptional. But what truly makes this restaurant stand out is the team behind it. They work like a perfectly tuned machine — friendly, polite, and incredibly knowledgeable about both food and wine. Their passion and professionalism made the evening truly unforgettable. I would highly recommend Il Segreto to anyone who appreciates fine cuisine and excellent service. It was a dining experience to remember — pure culinary pleasure.

We have a really great experience here! We indeed came here because it has great reviews on Google and it turns out really good! We didn’t wait for a table, and Sid really went above and beyond in his service. The food are great, we got a few welcome drinks, and the tiramisu is to die for. I will definitely recommend this place!

This restaurant was the most lovely, unexpected treat! We came here because we missed our reservation elsewhere, and it was such a happy mistake that we ended up at this brilliant restaurant. The service was so warm and friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming and intimate. We had the calamari fritti and bruschetta to start which were both delicious - the calamari was tender and lightly crisp and the stracciatella on the bruschetta was unique and so indulgent. For mains we both had the bucatini alla amatriciana - one of the 4 famous Roman pastas you have to try when you're in Rome. This was a perfect example of an amatriciana and must be tried! We had my favourite Roman vegetable side dish with our pasta - chicoria. This is a bitter dark green leafy green sauteed in lots of olive oil with anchovies. Absolutely delicious. Sadly we didn't have room for dessert but the tiramisu looked delicious! We did enjoy a beautiful glass of expensive but gorgeous quality barolo - a must-try Italian grape.

Ponte Umberto I offers a stunning view of the River Tiber and the iconic landmarks of Rome. From this bridge, visitors can enjoy picturesque sunsets behind St. Peter's Cathedral and admire the illuminated Castel Sant'Angelo at night. The bridge also provides access to a walkway along the Tiber, offering a beautiful perspective of the river and its surroundings. Additionally, it is praised as an ideal spot for capturing photos of the church and river, especially during sunset.
The sunset view of St. Peter's Basilica from Ponte Umberto I is absolutely breathtaking. As the golden hour approaches, the warm hues of the setting sun cast a soft, ethereal glow over the majestic dome of the basilica. From the bridge, you'll have a perfect vantage point to watch as the sunlight gradually bathes the dome in a radiant golden light. The intricate details of the basilica's architecture, including its columns, statues, and intricate carvings, are accentuated by the warm colors of the sunset, creating a truly mesmerizing sight. As the sun dips lower on the horizon, the sky above St. Peter's Basilica transforms into a canvas of vibrant colors, with hues of orange, pink, and purple painting the sky. The dome of the basilica stands out against this colorful backdrop, its silhouette outlined against the evening sky. The reflection of the sunset on the Tiber River adds to the magical ambiance, creating a mirror-like effect that enhances the beauty of the scene. As the last rays of sunlight fade away, the lights of the basilica and the surrounding buildings begin to twinkle against the twilight sky. The dome of St. Peter's Basilica, illuminated against the darkening sky, stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us of the timeless beauty and majesty of Rome.

This is a fantastic spot to visit, both during the day and in the evening. The sunset view over the Vatican is truly unforgettable. Additionally, it serves as one of the key thoroughfares connecting the Vatican area with the city center. I highly recommend it for a stroll at any time of day or night.

Ponte Umberto I offers one of the most beautiful views in Rome. From the bridge, I could see the Tiber River flowing calmly with Castel Sant’Angelo perfectly framed in the distance. It’s a peaceful spot to pause, take photos, and enjoy the city’s charm. Simple, scenic, and definitely worth a quick stop.

The Ponte Sant'Angelo in Rome is an architectural marvel that connects the city to the majestic Castel Sant'Angelo. This bridge, formerly known as the Pons Aelius, is adorned with beautifully sculpted angel statues, creating a magical atmosphere for visitors. It also offers breathtaking views of the Tiber River and serves as an ideal spot for a romantic stroll in the heart of the Eternal City. A must-visit in Rome for history and art lovers alike.

Monte Mario is a forested hill in Rome that offers a nature reserve, an observatory, and breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its monuments. It's the tallest viewpoint in Rome, featuring attractions like Zodiaco and Vialetto degli Innamorati (Lovers Walkway). The Astronomical Observatory on this hill provides the best view in Rome, admired even by German poet Goethe.

Residenza Maritti is a charming guesthouse located in the Monti district of Rome, offering a bistro, bar, and a rooftop terrace with stunning city views. Situated near the Colosseum and the Fori Imperiali, this locally run establishment provides an authentic Roman experience. The rooftop terrace boasts unobstructed views of iconic landmarks such as the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, and the Colosseum.
We only had one night’s stay here after our cruise but it was amazing. They had our room ready for us when we arrived at 11:00 am! The room was nice and spacious and had a view overlooking the forum! We were right in the heart of everything and a 5 minutes (if that) walk to the Colloseum! There were many restaurants close by to choose from. They had a breakfast room two doors down with lovely ancient decorations, so beautiful! The selection of food was great with all sorts of cakes, pastries, fruit, cereals, yogurt, eggs, coffee, tea, juices, etc. The check in staff Barbara and Jean-Luka were wonderful! We would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to everyone!

The location is really close to downtown (everything is as around 5 to 15min walk) and the host were really nice and helpful. Breakfast is near the hotel and they proposing a good menu. Love the hotel, very clean, calm and comfy! And the cherry on the top, the beautiful rooftop. I highly recommend this place, you won’t regret it :)

I loved this place! No, it's not what some would consider a 5 star hotel but to me it was. I like quaint hotels and this one had a good location too. Old home turned into a hotel. They preserved the frescos! Everyone was friendly and helpful. They helped arrange transportation from the cruise port to the hotel and then to the airport at the end of our stay. We stayed in the Tango room. It was clean and had plenty of room for us 3 adults. Keep in mind this is an old building, plumbing is a bit on the loud side and doors don't work the way new ones do. If you want a place new and contemporary, this is not it. If you want a place full of charm, this is it. Oh and did I mention the view?!

Loved our stay! We initially debated between this property and another one near Roma Termini but decided to stay at Residenza instead. So happy we did!! The building retains its charm but with all modern amenities. The host was very responsive to all our needs and inquiries. The breakfast was delicious. Pastries were fresh. Bedding was comfortable. Location was close to everything. The recommendations for dining were super helpful. Have book marked this property should we ever return to Rome!!

My husband and I had the pleasure of finding this gem online. It was our first trip to Rome and we had no idea where to stay, but we couldn't have been more happy with this hotel and its location. We initially had reservations near the termini station, but after looking at several maps and determining what we wanted to see on our three-day visit, we decided on this hotel. We couldn't have been more happy with our decision. We received so much help prior to our arrival with regard to transportation arrangements from FCO airport to hotel, transportation from hotel to the cruise terminal in Civitavecchia port, restaurant recommendations, arranging taxi's, etc. We stayed in the contemporary suite (4th floor) and had amazing views. Super clean, spacious, and comfortable room. And at the end of the day with lots of walking, we'd enjoy bringing our own wine to the rooftop patio for amazing views and sunset (with views of the colosseum). We also enjoyed the use of the small, shared kitchen on our floor. We were able to make fresh ice and enjoy use of the refrigerator and microwave. We loved the fact we could walk everywhere. It was a short walk to the colosseum. The only taxi we took was to Vatican City. We could have walked there (roughly an hour's walk), but we had scheduled a long tour and wanted to save our energy, so arranged a taxi there. Lastly, every single person working there was incredibly kind and helpful. Would without hesitation stay there again. Thank you to everyone at the Residenza Maritti for being so welcoming and helping us our first time in Rome. We'll be back!

Beautiful store. Beautiful colours. Beautiful products. However, the ready-to-eat food was not good quality. - Melanzane parmigiana: aubergine row, hard and very wet - Stuffed peppers: very very salty - Vitello tonnato: too much vinegar - Couscous: no taste at all - Porchetta: veeeeery fat porchetta - and the price: €60. I didn't take the receipt with but there were 3 things with €10 cost. Probably seafood, probably porchetta and what else? €10 for a portion of aubergine or the vitello? If you are going to open a restaurant, please, have a meeting with the chef. You have a beautiful store, your foods can be improved. 😃😃

We had made reservation for our family of 4, including 2 small children. We had another family that was traveling with us as well and they had booked this same hotel. We had made our booking through Expedia. This hotel cancelled our booking about 10 days before our arrival from America. The reason provided was that the "customer had made the cancellation request" when infact i had never made such a request. We were left scrambling at the last minute to find another hotel as we had already booked local train tickets. I called this hotel repeatedly and no one picked up the phone. I contacted Expedia and they weren't able to contact the hotel either and they couldn't reinstate my original booking either. So, Expedia was of no help. I have phone and chat records yo prove this. We ended up finding another Airbnb at he last minute as most of other traditional hotels were already booked or were way out of our price range. I would advise other prospective guests to keep this in mind that they might have to scramble at the last minute as this property has already proven that they can't be trusted. And this seems to be a common practice at this hotel. Other reviewers have also noted their reservation being cancelled for no valid reasons at the last minute. The best option would be to stay away from this property.
