Roman restaurant
Italian restaurant
Flavio al Velavevodetto, located in one of Rome's historic neighborhoods, is a culinary gem known for its fantastic traditional Roman cuisine. The restaurant's owner, Flavio De Maio, honed his skills at the renowned Felice a Testaccio before opening his own establishment. Here, he serves up a delightful variation of the trattoria's signature cacio e pepe dish and a rich ox-tail stew called coda alla vaccinara.
This is the kind of place you hope to find yourself in, when you travel to Rome. Off the tourist track, no loud talking Americans and Brits. Just a relaxed, confident and unprentious restaurant. Full of charm, authenticity, friendly service and above all great food. The carbonara and Cacio e Pepe are quite rightly famous (they're fantastic), but for me, the Trippa is the star! Wow, what a perfect meal.

Traditional dishes expertly made. Had the feel of an old establishment loved by locals. We were seated outside, which turned out to be a mistake for a mosquito magnet like me, though.
S. P — Google review
Flavio al Velavevodetto is a Real Roman Restaurant with one of the largest wine lists that I have ever seen in a Roman Cuisine Restaurant. Serves all of the classic Roman dishes and they are the original ones, all the food is delicious, the wine selection mentioned is absolutely fantastic. The restaurant during the summer season has also a pretty sweet outside area that makes enjoy more the pretty nice weather. If you never tried is a must In Rome. P.S. the Rigatoni with Pajata are to die for. Food: 9 Service: 7 Wine: 10 Vibe 9 Highly recommend this restaurant.

Food is absolutely fantastic! Even though the place was really busy, the service remained warm, passionate, and attentive. Truly one of the best restaurants I’ve visited in Rome (and this is already my third time here!). The Rigatoni All’amatriciana is a hidden gem—rich, flavorful, and bursting with the fragrance of fresh tomatoes.
Kuan T — Google review
Delicious food with tasty touch of Mt Vesuvius tomato and seasonal ingredients. My favorites were burrata, puntarella with anchovies sauce, lamb and the beef stripe in tomato sauce. The waitress was attentive even though it was very busy.
Phuong T — Google review
This restaurant is for locals. They don’t serve Chicken Alfredo or spaghetti and meatballs. If you want true local cuisine, which I what I wanted, come here. We had no reservation and they fit us in. I asked the staff to order for us because I wanted to taste true cuisine not tourist food. EVERYTHING was and will be an everlasting memory. I only have a few pictures because I totally forgot the last course.. lol

Vegans order Pasta E Ceci. And everyone else, order anything you want because there’s no way you will be disappointed. Glad to have found this place - filled with locals and relaxed vibe. Highly recommended!
Vishal C — Google review
Food was mediocre at best. Pasta even came out undercooked and I had to ask the waiter to bring me a new plate. By the time the new plate came out my wife had already finished her plate and had to watch me eat my second plate. Unfortunately the second plate was still a little bit undercooked but it was edible at least. The service was fine, nothing special to complain about. But at a nice restaurant I would expect some kind gesture to show that they were sorry about the first plate having an undercooked pasta. We sat outside, where floor was tilting quite a bit. A slight push on the table would make our glasses fall on the ground. The floor outside was fake grass making the outside feel very cheap. However, we were glad we had a seat outside, as the inside had a strong smell from the kitchen. Felt like the air inside wasn’t ventilated properly. We have had quite a hard time to find good authentic roman food in Rome, so maybe the already good score is relative to what is available in Rome overall. However, I feel like this really didn’t cut it for a restaurant in Rome. To mention a few positive things, the interior looked cozy inside, and the people working in the restaurant was nice. My wife thought her food was good but nothing spectacular. I ordered the carbonara and my wife ordered the ravioli.

Restaurant
Armando al Pantheon is a long-standing restaurant in the Pigna neighborhood, just a few steps from Piazza Navona. It offers hearty, traditional Roman fare in a wood-paneled dining room. The restaurant provides an unforgettable outdoor dining experience with the iconic Pantheon as a backdrop. Chef Claudio Gargioli's unique culinary creations add clever twists to honest classics, making it an exciting destination for food enthusiasts.
100% worth securing a reservation 1 month in advance. The food was incredible and service was top-notch. I took one bite of their veal special they were offering that night and it took me back to my Grandparents kitchen. Highly recommend this spot for dinner. Also worth mentioning: they received a Michelin Star back in 2017!
Joey F — Google review
We have been trying to get a table at Armando’s for several years on every trip to Rome. This year we finally managed to get a reservation and albeit it was for a late time - 10:00PM - we were excited to be able to finally taste the food at this famed restaurant. Upon entering we were warmly greeted and sat at our table and quickly serviced by our waiter. We started our meal off with the appetizer of the day which was lamp organs with sautéed chicory and served on a fresh bun. It was nicely presented and tasted delicious. Off to a good start. For our main course we ordered the Roman traditional Rigatoni all’amatriciana (my wife’s favorite) and for my self the daily special which was a cooked veal dish plus a couple sides. When the food arrived it looked nicely prepared but unfortunately with the very first bite disappointment struck. My veal dish was way overcooked which made the meat very dry. So much so that the flavor and moisture of the sauce and the ricotta got lost in it. While my wife enjoyed her dish, having taken a few bites of her pasta I also found the Guanciale to be over fried and charred (my wife likes it that way) leaving a bitter taste. The side dishes were good however. Nevertheless, I had high expectations for this place based on what I have heard from friends and read in reviews and felt let down despite the good parts. The mistakes made were too big and essential. Knowing that I likely won’t be able to revisit to give it another shot I’m left feeling cheated out of an experience that should have been one of the highlights from this trip. It is worth noting: We had a group of friends that had been able to secure a lunch table a couple days later. We recommended to stick to their staple dishes like Carbonara and the Osso Buco. They shared with us afterwards that the meal and overall experience was great. I hope to revisit the place in the future and to be able to share a better review next time around.

Terrific restaurant right next to the Pantheon. It is very popular so you must make a reservation when the date become available 1 month in advance. A kine forms outside before it opens but people with reservations are seated first so dont worry if you are way down the line. The restaurant is very nice inside and quiet which was great. The service was great. Everyone was so friendly and helpful with suggestions. The food was very good as well as the local Chianti. We had Lambs heart, liver and lung on a roll, grilled lamb shanks and rigatoni alla amatriciana.
Robert U — Google review
We were looking forward to our reservation at this restaurant (reservations definitely necessary if possible). We ultimately tried just two dishes. The pasta itself was very well done, however the sauce was not very flavourful. The Roman lamb (abbachio allo scottadito) was fantastic though - definitely recommend. The food and drinks are all quite pricey (as you might imagine in central Rome) in addition to service and water charges.
Mike B — Google review
We were very lucky that the waiter made a plan for us without having a reservation, as this is must. And then we tasted the best carbonara ever, and the house wine and prosecco was just special and amazing. Traditional Roman menu! Everything was tasty and delicious. And the staff just friendly and really great service.
Ronwyn M — Google review
Fabulous restaurant next to the Pantheon (obviously). MUST reserve a month ahead exactly. Strangely when we arrived there was a sign saying "fully booked" but restaurant was not full. They must know their limits and cook amazing food for a limited crowd. I would not choose outdoor seating which requires an email. The atmosphere inside is lovely. Outside is a little chaotic. Best Rigatoni all' Amatriciana we had in Rome, period. Crispy guanciale, perfectly toothy rigatoni. Carbonara and cacio e Pepe also both perfection. Our appetizers were lovely, a tomato bread with bufala mozzarella, and anchovies over cooked greens. Amazing wine at a reasonable price recommended by the sommelier. Wish we could go back. Just outstanding.
Dashiell E — Google review
I’d been wanting to try this restaurant ever since I saw it mentioned in several blogs and social media posts. There are two ways to eat here: either you book a table weeks in advance, or line up before the restaurant opens for lunch and hope there’s still a table left after the reservations. The second option is a bit risky — the line gets long, and not everyone gets in. The restaurant is right across from the Pantheon, with a simple decor. We ordered two classics: rigatoni all’amatriciana and carbonara, paired with two glasses of red wine (one full-bodied, one medium-bodied). The guanciale in the amatriciana was crispy and served in larger pieces, though the dish itself was a bit on the salty side. The carbonara had a creamy, well-balanced sauce. Overall, the pasta was delicious — maybe not the absolute best we’ve had, but definitely worth trying. Service is quite slow, so be patient — our dishes took about 40 minutes to arrive.
Deniz Y — Google review
I saw the restaurant on Stanley Tucci's TV show. Booking a table was challenging due to the popularity of the place. I finally got a table for lunch. The place was cozy and the service was good. The wine and amatriciana were really good. I definitely recommend the place!

Run by the Latini family, the eatery is currently managed by Luca and his father Massimo, with fresh pasta made daily by Luca's aunt Anna and delectable desserts prepared by his mother Paola.
AMAZING PASTA! extremely fresh! You have to make reservations in advance or hope someone doesn’t come to their reservation. It was so delicious we were able to get a table for dinner and booked a table for lunch the next day. The service was incredible and the atmosphere was too loud but loud enough to feel like your conversation was private. I highly recommend the stuffed pasta in butter sauce!!

Wow. We followed some reviews to see if they could sit us without a reservation. They did! The pumpkin ravioli, lasagna, and stuff pork chop…. Too good to describe. Wish we could’ve gotten the lemon meringue!
Joel H — Google review
The best pasta restaurant in Rome. Hand made noodles and source too. Recipe is authentic like home made one. Better to reserve first or waiting in a line before opening time.
Bruce S — Google review
Very overrated place with bad ignorant service. I was served my dish while I was at the toilet washing my hands which weird for a Michelin place to say the least. Food was average (ravioli with spinach) while the desert was absolutely tasteless. You can definitely find better places with tasty Italian food and friendly service for third the price of the check in there.
Dima S — Google review
Really a fantastic meal of homemade pasta. I am truly pleased with a place offering a small menu of a mix of seasonal and classic dishes with an emphasis on quality and flavor. This place was a triumph in these categories. To begin, our table share the appetizer sampler, a perfect selection of primarily cured meats from the Emilia-Romagna region. I then enjoyed the tagliatelle con porcini from the seasonal menu. The handmade pasta was absolutely divine: both airy and light but substantially rich to offer an incredibly satisfying chew. Zabaiolone for dessert, my mouth was singing an aria all the way home. You should definitely make a reservation if you can. If not, arrive 20min before they open and it is possible you will get a table. Many people in our line did (we had a reservation).
Matthew P — Google review
【This is not a place I would recommend】 While staying nearby, I happened to see an elderly person earnestly making pasta at the front of the restaurant and noticed people lining up outside. I thought, “This might be an authentic and popular place,” and decided to try it. It seemed to be a popular restaurant, and when I tried to make a same-day reservation, I was told that there was only one table available at 21:15, so I went at that time. Upon arrival, I was seated promptly, but the receptionist prioritized taking a phone call and didn’t even glance at me as I entered. My impression of “poor hospitality” started right then and there. As I feared, the worst part was the server at our table (a white man with black-rimmed glasses and a shaved head). Below are the unacceptable aspects of his service: 1. Since I was with a child, I asked about the portion sizes. His response was shockingly dismissive: “It’s one plate per person, right? How should I know if the amount is right for you?”—something no hospitality professional should ever say. 2. He refused to discuss the portions, so I decided to observe how my child was eating and planned to order another dish later. However, when I tried to place an additional order toward the end, he snapped, “You can’t order piecemeal like that—it’ll trouble the chef.” I was appalled that a mere floor staffer would prioritize the chef’s mood over the customer’s experience. If that’s the policy of the restaurant, it should be clearly stated in advance. If they don’t want à la carte orders, they should operate as course-only. 3. At checkout, I noticed the bill had the Amex logo, so I offered to pay with my American Express card. The waiter clicked his tongue in disapproval, went to fetch a separate terminal, and after completing the payment, flung the card back onto the table and left without a word. He didn’t even provide a receipt until I asked. I suspect this might violate Amex’s merchant agreement. I plan to report this incident and request an investigation or possible revocation of their merchant status. On the positive side, the tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce was excellent—so much so that my child even asked for seconds. The pasta was clearly handmade with care, and that point deserves praise. In summary, the chefs are diligent, but the service—especially the black-rimmed-glasses man who seems to be the floor manager—was absolutely terrible. If the restaurant prioritizes local regulars over first-time customers, they should clearly state so. If they refuse additional orders, they shouldn’t offer à la carte dining. In the near future, when robots handle service tasks, staff like this—who lack even the slightest hospitality—will be replaced. A server without a spirit of service has no reason to exist. His behavior made it clear that he is just going through the motions after years in the job. Lastly, I noticed the Michelin sticker on the door before entering and thought this might be a top-rated place. On closer inspection, it was from six years ago. After this experience, I clearly understand why they lost that honor. The food may be good, but the service ruins everything. The price felt excessive, and I walked away with deep disappointment.
Sma — Google review
We had lunch (tagliatelle con prosciutto e asparago, anatra con arance), dessert, and coffee. We happened to be seated where we could watch family members making pasta. The entire experience was wonderful: delicious food, excellent service, and a show. We were lucky to be able to just walk in, perhaps because it was for lunch and we were on the late side. Reservations recommended, and well in advance if for dinner.

All the pastas are made fresh in house. The pumpkin ravioli was so good! Thin fresh pastas go along with everything. Don’t miss out.

This restaurant is located next to the Pantheon in Rome, Italy. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear this is an elegant, upscale establishment. The interior is neat and clean, and the service was excellent. The food arrived quickly, though the restaurant wasn’t very busy, with only about three other tables occupied. They brought us bread, which we hadn’t requested, and later charged us for it on the bill. I think they should be upfront about such charges—it wasn’t a nice surprise. I ordered the octopus, which was absolutely delicious, and my husband’s steak was perfectly cooked and flavorful. He also enjoyed the potatoes. However, he ordered a side of spinach, and when I tried it, I noticed it was gritty, as if it hadn’t been washed properly—it tasted like there was sand in it. Overall, it’s a lovely restaurant with great potential, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Are there based on the recommendations from niece and nephews Italian restaurant in Denver and was not disappointed. Great atmosphere, just off the main part of Patheon, so slightly less congested. Great service and great food. White truffle season so naturally I had to have some.

Had a chance to visit after an afternoon at the Pantheon and enjoyed a wonderful meal. We started with the roasted octopus and the prosciutto. The octopus was fantastic and definitely worth ordering, one of the best dishes. I went with the cacio y pepe with black truffles and my girlfriend had the filet mignon. Finished off with an awesome tiramisu and espresso. Great spot with awesome food worth a visit.

My husband and I ate here twice during our recent trip and really enjoyed the food. We also really enjoyed our waiter, Rocco who is a Sergio Leone and Ennio Moriccone enthusiast. He knew all the Leone movies and made us laugh with his impersonations of characters. He was also very attentive to our meal and made certain that we had a wonderful culinary experience. This was the second trip to Rome that we visited this restaurant and we will certainly be back when we visit again.

Restaurant
Ristorante La Tavernaccia Da Bruno is a cozy tavern that has been serving homestyle pasta and Roman meat dishes since 1968. The restaurant, now run by Bruno Persiani's daughters Patrizia and Paola, offers a hand-written menu featuring generous pasta dishes and delights from the wood-fired oven, including lamb, suckling pig, roast pork, and delicious house focaccia. It's recommended to make reservations well in advance as tables are often scarce, especially on Sundays.
Excellent dinner! I had the burrata, the side salad and the lasagna — and it was just A+, 11/10. If I lived in Rome I’d be a regular here; if I could give more than five stars, I would :) shoutout to Anna for her kind and attentive service. Hope to be back next time I’m here

Absolutely loved this restaurant. The staff were so helpful and took the time to explain the dishes to us. We had the suckling pig which was the nicest pork I've had. Desserts were homemade and well worth a try. Prices were very reasonable. You will need to book in advance if you want a guaranteed seat/team.

I only write reviews on places that people need to go to or completely avoid. This place, as you can tell by the stars, is a must go. The staff is multilingual and very kind. I felt comfortable using my limited Italian and they understood me when I couldn't. The food is excellent and well prepared. Everything is fresh and made to order. I can keep going on, but this is a review, not a novel. Come stay awhile in their welcoming Italian restaurant, and enjoy anything and everything on the menu. Don't forget the dessert wine. Saluti!

Great, fantastic, amazing food. Best italian dishes i ever had. Very nice and friendly environment , Multilingual service full of smiles . Kevin and Ernesto great service, Alice great hostess and amazing pastry chef . Totally recommended.

The servers were always smiley and willing to share recommendations and jokes with us. We ordered the bruschetta with artichokes, prosciutto, Cabonara, suckling pig. The above for 2 ppl, I guess it was not the usual portion but we went on to order 4 desserts. Best decision ever. Desserts were mainly made in house and it was SO GOOD. The chocolate cake was so decadent, lemon tart so basic yet fully brings out the flavour of the lemon without being overly sweet. The apple tart, subtle but not overly sweet. Best meal we had in Roma, most authentic Roman meal you can have. Try to ring them for reservation

The food was amazing. The octopus starter was delicious. We tried the rabbit and the pork - both were great. Really great service also.

We had a wonderful dinner at La Tavernaccia! We ordered a mix of cured meats and cheeses, Roman artichoke, eggplant parmigiana, roasted suckling pig, and the spaghettoni alla gricia. Every dish was delicious, but the spaghettoni stood out — rich, flavorful, and hands down the best pasta we had in Rome. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the service was attentive. Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina is a bustling destination in Rome that offers an array of culinary delights. It transforms from a deli to an A-list restaurant during mealtime, with tables set against the cheese counter and a selection of remarkable Italian and foreign wines. The menu features exceptional dishes such as the renowned carbonara and delightful burrata, along with local and Spanish cured pork, and Cecina de Leon.
My partner and I enjoyed a truly delicious meal featuring Cacio e Pepe - a simple yet exquisite pasta dish with the perfect harmony of cheese and pepper. Alongside it, we were served a selection of fresh breads that complemented the flavours. The restaurant’s location adds a distinctive charm to the overall experience, and it’s clearly a favourite among diners. I’d recommend booking well in advance. Despite the busy atmosphere, our waiter was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Service was prompt, yet never rushed, which made the evening feel relaxed and well-paced. To finish, I had ice cream while my partner opted for a meringue cake. We were also treated to a few biscuits with rich chocolate sauce for dipping. It was a delightful and indulgent end to a memorable meal.

I first came here over ten years ago and recall the food and service being good, so I decided to take my wife here for lunch during our recent visit to Rome. Unfortunately, the restaurant has changed quite a bit, and not for the better. We arrived a little early and were told by a lady with a clipboard that we needed to wait outside until our reservation before being seated. What followed was a roll call of sorts where we were treated as though we were being granted entry to some sort of exclusive nightclub. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and the walls are adorned with all sorts of wines and spirits. It’s a little cramped inside, but that’s part of the charm, I suppose. Unfortunately, the food itself didn’t live up to the slightly pretentious air of the place. While it was decent enough, it certainly wasn’t worth the price, as we spent over 40 euros a head for a couple of small starters and two bowls of pasta. My tagliatelle ragu was dressed with an excessive amount of pecorino romano which overpowered the flavour of the sauce. The restaurant could save money on ingredients and improve the taste of the pasta by using it more sparingly in future. The tiramisu was also fine, but nothing special. Overall, this place simply isn’t worth the money. In the evening, we went to Kung Fu Express for dinner and the food was half the price and twice as good.

Highly recommend to experience proper Italian and Roman food. Entertaining to sit by the counter too and watch the chefs prepare the platters. Trippa and pasta dishes were perfect! Staff was extremely helpful and suggested and explained everything to us! Best to book in advance though as it’s very popular for obvious reasons.

It was hands down the best of the best from this entire trip. If you’re in Rome, this place is an absolute must-go! The Parma ham I had here was honestly the best thing I ate during my whole vacation — truly unforgettable. The wine list and every single dish were just amazing, absolutely mind-blowing. The place is always busy and full of energy, and the servers are constantly on the move, but that’s part of its charm. I’ll definitely be coming back multiple times next time I’m in Rome. The food here is something I’ll never forget! It just became my and hubby’s fav restaurant in the world💛

Food is pretty good, albeit completely overpriced. My carbonara came out cold, with almost no sauce. The tripe and foie gras was good, as well as the prosciutto and tiramisu. Service was a mixed bag, our waiter told us there is no gluten free bread even though there was and we had to ask someone else to get it. Also, if you get seated at the counter clients will come in and order stuff to go over your table which is a bit weird.
Jernej B — Google review
This place is incredible! The atmosphere, the food and the staff make for an unforgettable night out. We were a group of 8 people (adults and teenagers) and sat in the downstairs room. Fabio, our waiter, was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and made the whole experience a wonderful night out. You need to book well in advance to secure a table - it is well worth a visit and their sister store is the place to visit for pastries / lunch.
Emma T — Google review
An Italian friend recommended this, saying it was the best carbonara she’d ever had. And she wasn’t wrong. We had reservations for 2.30pm - the only slot they had! - but we got there about 1pm and the lady at the door very kindly seated us. The service was brilliant, with recommendations for wine from the lovely waiter (who even let me try out my rubbish Italian with him) and lovely little complimentary touches like a savoury amuse bouche and teeny churros with chocolate sauce. This was the highlight of our trip to Rome but you will need to book - and well in advance!

Make resys 3 months in advance. It's worth it! The service is great, the food is top notch. Prices are extremely reasonable. We ordered a couple of things we normally would not get because, well... when in Rome! There was 4 of us, we had 2 apps, 4 entrees, 1 dessert and 6 drinks, the bill was 244€. This was our 2nd visit and we are coming back before we head home. The oxtail stuffed zucchini flowers were the stand out favorite of the whole table. 10/10.

Roma Sparita is a charming pasta and pizza restaurant located in Trastevere, known for its country-style interiors and tranquil piazza setting. The eatery gained fame after being featured on Anthony Bourdain's show 'No Reservations' for its unique presentation of cacio e pepe in a parmesan cheese bowl.
Hands down the best dining experience of our trip. The food was absolutely out of this world—authentic, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The cacio e pepe and artichoke dishes are an absolute must. My husband and I got incredibly lucky—we showed up right as they were opening and the hostess managed to squeeze us in. Otherwise, we would’ve needed a reservation, which we now highly recommend. This spot fills up fast, and for good reason! Fantastic food, warm service, and a truly memorable meal. A highlight of our time in Rome.
Caroline C — Google review
Tucked away in one of the quieter, less touristy corners of Trastevere, this little gem came highly recommended for its famous Cacio e Pepe. We opted to sit indoors, even though their outdoor patio looked absolutely charming, sometimes you just want the cozy indoor vibe. Our waiter was funny, friendly, and quick on his feet. He took our order with a smile, shared the daily specials, and even threw in a few jokes. But my mind was already made up: Tagliolini Cacio e Pepe it was! When the plate arrived, I was instantly impressed by the presentation: a work of art! The pasta was crowned in a crispy shell of pecorino cheese, which you could break apart and enjoy alongside each bite. Genius touch. The pasta itself was cooked to perfection; though personally, I would have preferred the slightly thicker tonnarelli, the flavor was spot on. Bravo to the Roma Sparita team, you’ve won me over! 👏🏼

Delicious!!! Easy seating for 2 with no reservations. The service was great and the food was delicious! I got the cacio e Pepe and it came in a cheese bowl! It was a neat experience but definitely a heavy meal. Overall the experience was great and I think it is an amazing stop for dinner!

Great restaurant ! We ordered a variety of pastas, a capriciosa pizza, melon and prosciutto, and some antipasto. Everything tasted very good and the house white wine was so smooth and fresh.

On Sunday evening, this restaurant—like many others in Trastevere—was completely full of guests. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to find a free table. The moderately priced menu looked inviting, as did the friendly waitresses. The beef steak was delicious, though my lamb steak was merely tasty. The wine we ordered was quite strong.

Best meal of our trip so far! The place was very busy so there was a bit of a wait, but it was definitely worth it. Highly recommend this restaurant and we'll definitely be returning.

Food was very disappointing, lacked flavor except for salt, which overpowered every dish. Our reception was cold, our server was nice, but I could not recommend this place when there are so many other options with great food in Rome.

We were able to get a quick walk in table here. Only tables inside were available without a booking. Our entrees were delicious. We did order the carbonara however it was the saltiest food we have ever tasted. We were unfortunately unable to finish the meal because of this.

This family-run restaurant serves a variety of Italian dishes including pasta and pizza, with a modern twist. You can't visit the restaurant unless you are at the Vatican Museums, but the food is worth it.
Maybe the best restaurant near Saint Peter's Square. Very fresh seafood and quality ingredients. Early reservation is recommended. We order 2 appetizers (octopus and tuna) and pear arugula salad, but it's full filling. Great wine selections!

Absolutely delicious! Food is decadent. We were recommended by a local and we're glad we took his advice. Some in our party have shellfish and nut allergies. The menu listed which foods contained which allergens. Our waiter Luciano was attentive and confirmed our food choices. Thank you for also keeping aside the hat that I left behind 🤦

The location is very nice and quite quiet. We sat outside. The food was okay but for the price we expected more than normal tomato sauce. The dessert with pear in red wine was very very good but the chocolate was missing? We had to ask for water again as this was forgotten.

Out of all restaurants in Rome that we had a chance to visit on our 3 day trip you guys were the best. Not too big, the atmosphere was very intimate. We enjoyed our dinner. Overall is great. And of course the carbonara was the BEST, its a MUST.

We stayed 6 days in Rome and this was for us the best restaurant we had. The carbonara was just perfect, by far the best I had in Rome (and I had many). The personal was also very friendly (even with my 3 year old daughter). The place is small but very nice decorated. The price can be a bit higher but every euro is worth it. Definitely worth to go!

I had a wonderful experience at Aflu Italian Restaurant! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the food was absolutely delicious — especially the pasta, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. A special thank you to our waitress, Anastasia, who made the evening even more enjoyable with her friendly attitude and excellent service. She was attentive, polite, and made us feel truly welcome. I’ll definitely be coming back!

According to my girlfriend you can get the best carbonara in Rome here. We had wonderful service by our waitress Anastaciia (hopefully spelled it right). The starters were very flavorful but the bread was a bit hard to slice. The mains were incredible. Like I said before the best carbonara my girlfriend had in Rome and the cuttlefish pasta was so unique and perfect for someone with a love for seafood. The deserts are perfect for the cravings and the aperols were slurped down without hesitation. Overall an amazing meal, we would love to come again when back in Rome!

It was very tasty, the price is good, portions are big and pasta stunning. But no one warned that the water is not free when they brought it to the table even if use wouldn’t want it we would have to pay

Starting off by service, the waiters were very friendly and helpful and willing to communicate with English ♪(*^^)o∀*∀o(^^*)♪ The atmosphere is also great, with the whole restaurant is spacious and decorated with prison themed items and lots of wine, I personally love the lighting which is fairly strong, mostly because I’m Asian and am not used to the dim lighting across Europe(о´∀`о) At last the food, magnificent!! The beef tripe has a lovely layered seasoning and has a very chewy texture, absolutely love it!! The oxtail is also splendid- I don’t need to put much force on the meat for it to get off the bone and it also tastes great!! The pizza(I had roasted potatoes and bacon)has a LOVELY thin base which I personally love and it’s not too savoury as well, a perfect balance between the slightly mushy texture of the potato and the chewy texture of the pizza base and the crunchy crust(๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) The tagliatelle I had was absolutely delicious, I’m not an expert in food but I think that was al dente and it was very enjoyable!! Finally I had the pistachio tiramisu for dessert and it was delicious. Absolutely willing to encore and it was really good!! The cream was light and not too sweet and doesn’t give you the guilt of eating desserts at night if you’re having a dietᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ I will definitely recommend this to anyone who’s going to Roma and try this restaurant out, as it ended my day with pleasure and is very entertaining.

We sat outside since it gets a little crowded and loud inside. We had the coda alla vaccinara and grilled lamb, both were very good. Good selection of natural wines.

The service, venue and atmosphere was great and the food ok. Our only issue was the cacio e pepe had excessive amounts of cheese and became gloopy and not a smooth sauce consistency like we had elsewhere.

I recently visited a traditional Italian restaurant located in the heart of Rome. The interior was very charming, with dark tones and plenty of vintage photographs that created a cozy and nostalgic atmosphere. There were quite a few waiters, which made the service both fast and pleasant — the staff was attentive and professional throughout the evening. However, I must admit that the food didn’t quite meet my expectations in terms of flavor. It wasn’t bad, but I was hoping for something a bit more authentic or memorable considering the location. On the other hand, the prices were surprisingly reasonable for a restaurant situated right in the city center. Overall, it’s a nice place for the ambiance and service, but the food could be improved.

This is an Italian restaurant that is highly recommended. From the photos of different eras on the wall, you can see the changes in the center of Rome, such as the appearance of Castel Sant'Angelo in the past and the conditions of ordinary people's homes in the past. As for the quality of the food, I think it is very good! The taste is just right and the sauce is rich. I especially recommend their seafood platter, which is very good and delicious. In addition, the staff are also very friendly and helpful

The place is amazing... Sit inside it will be a total history and Great atmosphere. Staff is great, food is WOW. Prices are acceptable, not the cheapest, but you want to eat good, this counts. Try Malenzane con Parmigiana or any food from the menu! Seafood is very tasty, pasta is very Italian 😎

We ordered gluten-free pasta and some starters, though unfortunately, the restaurant doesn’t offer gluten-free pizza. We tried the lasagna, fettuccine with pesto and shrimp, and the parmigiana — all were delicious and well-prepared. The staff were very knowledgeable about gluten allergies, reassured us about avoiding cross-contamination, and were also extremely friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, a great experience for anyone looking for safe and tasty gluten-free options.

We did have a wait to be seated but it was an ideal table and worth it; we and other guests were not on top of one another. The terrace was well-lit with live music but we watched as several diners on the very edge were approached by street vendors. We had two pastas: rigatoni gricia and spaghetti alla vongole and the saltimbocca. We also added an amazing Greek salad. This was plenty of dinner for two adults and two tweens. While nice, the meal did not stand out for us against other Roman cuisine. We ordered tiramisu since so many other tables had it: unremarkable, and could be passed on. Toilets downstairs were tidy.

Another gem I found while wandering around. Best gnocchi I've had in years! And the food at nearby tables looked and smelled delicious too. Good value for the money - 2 courses and a cocktail for under €30. Pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Very friendly, attentive (but not overly so) staff. Chatty if you wanted them to be, but left you alone if you wanted quiet relaxation.

Eggs is a cozy cafe with an industrial-chic vibe that offers a menu focused on eggs, featuring dishes like pasta carbonara and roe. Chef Barbara Agosti presents 13 variations of carbonara, including options with artichokes, zucchini, pumpkin, truffle, and fish.
Pleasantly surprised all through the meal - a standout highlight from our trip. The staff are fabulous for seating us at 6pm on a busy Friday without a reservation because we were super keen to try and were good to leave by 7pm. They were very patient, and the dishes are innovative and delicious. Try the Eggs Game, any variation of the carbonara, and the yoghurt mousse.

If you love eggs but not only them you could have it here in insteresting and attractive way. Of course, we tried the egg game and I recommend. Carbonara with zucchini flowers was a modest diversion from classic carbonara if you want to experiment but not risk too much surprise. The tiramisu was good although I prefer when the biscuit is less dry. I would say that the atmosphere, serving and attentive staff are other aspects that contribute to my very positive impression.

Extensive menu and very tasty options, I had vegetarian carbonara with zucchini and a delicious egg and Cacio starter. Midweek and quiet when we went as it was early evening. Recommend if you're in Trastevere.

A friend recommended me the restaurant and I must say was an excellent experience. Delicious selection of Carbonaras as the one in the picture with green peppers ( which doesn’t do justice of the presentation, was brilliant)! Super cool concept around eggs, incredible nice service and professional :)! We took different dishes including the original carbonara recipe which was my favorite.
Jairo B — Google review
We stopped by Eggs for a super late lunch and ordered two carbonaras — the Classic and the 1954. Both were rich, creamy, and deeply satisfying. The Classic had a smokier flavor with thicker, perfectly al dente noodles served in a jar, while the 1954 came with spaghetti, which I personally preferred. One of the best carbonaras I’ve had — flavorful, indulgent, and perfectly balanced when paired with a glass of white wine. I can understand why some might say it’s salty, but to me that’s exactly how it should be. Beyond the pasta, the menu is full of creative, egg-forward dishes that look tempting. Wish we had more room to try them all! Great spot if you love pasta done right and want something a little different.

The line is quite huge already at an opening time but moves quickly. There are two options- with pork and without for 5€ each you can also get water for 1€. Menu changes daily we believe (it was different each day were were here as of Sept 23-24 2025), there was 2 options: Pork or no pork. It seems like it's meat and no meat option. I honestly don’t understand how this place has so many good reviews. The pasta was low quality, bland, and not tasty. We couldn’t even eat it, unfortunately. I get that it’s cheap, but everything felt cheap — from the ingredients to the preparation. It seems like people go here just because it’s affordable, not because it’s actually good. Definitely not worth trying, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for authentic or enjoyable pasta.

Get there early. Stand in line. Order your pasta (and free wine & water if you dine-in). Stand at the counter and eat your pasta and drink your cheap wine out of a paper cup. It’s simple. Best lunch deal in Rome. Edit: this was pre Covid (2018). Now, it’s all take away (and no wine). And now they charge €1 for a cup of water? What’s the point? Go and try to eat your pasta on the famous steps and get kicked off by the tourist police. Sorry folks, the pasta party’s over. When did the world get so uncivilized?

It’s technically a small place for a quick bite/lunch. At my first time in Roma, I just visited this place, to see and taste the food. I was amazed by the quality and simplicity of this food. Just two sorts of pasta. I can recommend to anybody to try the pasta. Anybody who is saying that this is under 5 stars, they have no idea and doesn’t know to appreciate the quality, taste and simplicity of this pasta! If you're on the hunt for a cozy spot to indulge in some authentic Italian cuisine, look no further than this laid-back eatery adorned with charming red-brick walls and inviting outdoor tables. Here, you can savor delightful spaghetti dishes that showcase the best of Italy's culinary traditions.
We wanted to eat aglio e olio and spaghetti carbonara that day and this was the only restaurant (we have seen) offering both and they did not disappoint. It was like an underground resto with outside seating but it was nice and warm inside. We enjoyed the pastas that we ordered as well as the bruschetta. I just found the pasta in oil, garlic and pepper too spicy. The kick truly overwhelmed the garlic and the olive which was the taste I was looking for. The carbonara was a little salty for me and the guanciale a bit fatty (I think that is how a guanciale is supposed to be though 😊). The tomato and basil pasta was on point. The pairing of tomato and basil created a great balance of flavors. We recommend this restaurant if you’re craving for pasta. They do it really well. The prices are not bad for the servings as well. 👍

Spaghetti is such a wonderful place to eat! If we go solely based on vibes, the restaurant is absolutely adorable — the decor is so cute and welcoming. The manager was incredibly kind and attentive, which made us feel right at home. One detail I really appreciated is that the menu is translated into many languages, making it very accessible for travelers. The service is truly premier, and the overall ambiance is fantastic — warm, cozy, and full of charm. And the food… wow! The red sauce is absolutely delicious, the bruschetta was fresh and flavorful, and the caprese salad was perfection. Everything tasted so authentic and made with care. We loved it so much that we’ll be coming back tomorrow to enjoy more! Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for amazing food and a delightful dining experience.

Food tasted good, location great, but service was subpar. Restaurant was not crowded, waiters distracted & chatting amongst themselves. Placed an order for bruschetta & pasta at 12pm, waiter came back to confirm orders, but was served the pasta at 1225pm. Waiter had forgotten to key in order for bruschetta. Staff apologized, then promised a shot of limoncello to make up for their mistake… but never served it. When paying, tried to tap my credit card but didn’t work. Staff asked for payment in cash instead. Please come prepared with cash & patience when dining here.

Excellent restaurant. As a high ranking public official I am accustomed to the finer things in life. This restaurant is superb. I did not expect to find a restaurant of this quality in a touristy spot opposite the Vatican Walls but this is really good.

Ristorante Il Tempio di Iside is a renowned seafood restaurant in Rome, known for its exquisite dishes and extensive wine selection. Located near the Colosseum, this chic eatery offers an intimate dining experience with exposed brick walls. The menu features a variety of cooked and raw seafood dishes, including fusilli pasta with red prawns, pecorino, oysters, sea urchin, scallops, tartare, and carpaccio.
We were somewhat overwhelmed by the menu and confused on what to order. Eventually we decided on the raw sampler and the cooked sampler followed by seafood risotto and a pasta dish. The samplers were very creative and we enjoyed the presentation and flavors. The risotto and the pasta dishes were fine but I wouldn’t order either one again. We came here because Katie Parla has it in her fine dining list. Service was great and the place is cool. We enjoyed our experience.

Elegance and Flavor in the Heart of Rome: Il Tempio di Iside In the landscape of fine dining in Rome, Il Tempio di Iside stands out as a true sanctuary of seafood and refined flavors. Stepping inside feels like entering a timeless haven, where exposed brick walls, elegant arches, and soft lighting create the perfect balance between intimacy and sophistication. The menu is a love letter to the sea: top-tier raw seafood, impeccably executed tartares, and the freshest catch, showcasing a passion for tradition and quality. Every dish is a masterpiece of precision, with an obsessive focus on premium ingredients. The shellfish and salt-baked fish are absolute must-tries. Service is flawless, with attentive and knowledgeable staff guiding guests through an impeccable gastronomic journey. The owners are the heart and soul of the place, always present, deeply passionate, and eager to share the stories behind every ingredient with infectious enthusiasm. However, there are a couple of drawbacks. Parking in the area is a nightmare, something to consider before heading out. But the real challenge? The price. Excellence comes at a cost, but here it borders on extravagance, making it an experience reserved for those willing to indulge. The verdict? A well-earned four stars: Il Tempio di Iside is a dream destination for seafood lovers and fine dining connoisseurs, just be prepared for a bill that makes an impression.

The food was outstanding, featuring a commendable variety of seafood options. However, I noticed some areas for improvement in the service. I felt rushed by several waitstaff to place my order quickly, and there was a sense of pressure to finish my meal. I would have preferred a more relaxed dining experience, allowing me to fully enjoy the delicious food without stress.

Terrible impressions of this place. We came at lunchtime, wanted to drink coffee and eat dessert, waited for a very long time until someone even approached us to ask where it is better to sit inside or outside. When we finally found a waiter, he refused to even seat us at a table, said that this is a restaurant and here we must order large dishes from the menu otherwise they will not even serve us, turned around and left. I think this is unacceptable behavior. I do not recommend visiting this place.

the seafood was excellent, we took the crab linguine and it was a fun experience to eat! the selection is great, definitely recommend if you're looking for the best seafood in town! the only downfall we experienced is that the place got really hot after a while which was hard to take.

This was, without doubt, one of the best seafood restaurants I have ever eaten, and I grew up in a fishing village. My wife also thought her pasta was the nicest pasta she has ever eaten. I would advise getting a table downstairs if possible. The atmosphere down there looked better, and it is a unique setting.

Our favorite dining experience during our 6 days in Rome! We went for Easter lunch (as they were closed for dinner service for a few days), and we really felt like we were dining among the locals. Everyone was chatting amongst themselves and with other tables, and all we heard was Italian (which was very unusual and unlike mostly anywhere else). One of very friendly jolly gentleman (manager? owner?) was walking around, speaking to guests and pouring olive oil over everything! Yummmmm The food was also excellent (in both presentation and taste) and very good value for what you get. They were very good about accommodating a gluten allergy and brought bread out in a separate package. Service was excellent! In true Italian hospitality, our table neighbor poured us half of his wine (and we were communicating via hand gestures 🤌). The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning as well. They gave us the option to sit downstairs or upstairs, and we chose downstairs (you feel like you’re in a wine cave). Both floors have their own charm. Also, don’t miss going to the bathroom. It’s a little off the beaten path, but don’t hesitate, just go! Highly highly recommend!

L'Archeologia is a refined Roman restaurant located near the Appian Way, next to the Saint Calixtus Catacombs. Housed in a 19th-century building with an underground wine cellar that was once an ancient tomb, the restaurant offers a spectacular setting adorned with statues, ancient stones, and old paintings. The outdoor seating area is spacious with large white umbrellas and soothing music playing in the background.
This was one of the best meals of my life- a pleasure from start to finish. An inviting and engaging atmosphere with antiquities and an underground wine cellar (a former tomb). Service was skillful and the food was incredible.

Believe me, this was not an easy review, because everything was perfect, but the end result ruined the final score. And that's nothing to do with either the food, the service, or the internal atmosphere. THE STARS SHORTENED DUE TO A THEFT THAT SMASHED THE GLASS OF THE CAR TO STEAL INTO IT. I'm not sure how good it is for a restaurant like this not owning a car park. But this inevitably requires customers to park off-road, in a non-lighted street, which I would have never imagined being a target for thefts. Whatever the case, the fact remains, and it's important to inform people, as apparently this was not an isolated case (it happened before), and another car was smashed at the same time of mine. That being said, the internal environment, warmed up with a nice chimney, the food, the service... everything was really amazing. The roasted pork belly was divine. The dessert, I couldn't enjoy too much, mostly due to the above accident. Surely the bill is proportioned to the ancient building, the quality of food, and the service, but as an indication, a full meal will be not less than 50 euros per person, wine excluded, whose cost could vary from 26 to 4k.

Excellent Excellent Excellent. Beautiful restaurant, full of history. Top service and world-class cuisine. This restaurant alone is worth the trip out to the Appian Antica, but also spend the afternoon out there and relax away from the city crowds.

Had lunch just after the restaurant opened at 12:30pm. Nice welcome, cozy seats, friendly staff. Tartare as a starter (18€) was very good but very simple. Mustard or Quail egg and maybe something crispy would have complemented it well. Red wine by the glass - first choice was the Cabernet Cuvée but after tasting it and finding out the bottle was opened yesterday I went for the lighter Pinot Noir (?) Cuvée. Brisket as the main with potatoes - brisket was slightly dry and not really hot but really tasty. Needed a bit more Sauce. Desert - raspberry sorbet with crumble, creme and pistachios - excellent dish! All together with water and cafe 65€. Nice was rooms and a historic wine cellar. Definitely a good spot for fine dining!

On one of the most exquisite Road in Rome where all the graves are from the old time. Since then the place we are in this restaurant was a postal office and the food is really nice very selective and the wine is good the people are gentle and nice and I do believe it's a great restaurant to come and eat it is not cheap Regarding the food you can eat there is a beautiful artichoke grilled and boiled that has a lot of taste and also the reason to I had was with a amazing taste of smoked cream and butter it was really really good. Another must in this restaurant is going in the cellar this is a seller that is already dated from 1 era

This is likely now one of my favorite restaurants in Rome. My friend invited my wife and I to dine here for dinner! We’ve not heard of it and it was our first night in Rome. We are so glad we went! The service was terrific and the food is so wonderful. Its a bit further way from the main attraction in Rome, but it’s so worth it to travel out! There were really no tourists in the restraints. Majority were local Italians gathering for dinner/evening date! So you know that it’s legit Italian food! The ambience felt like a romantic Italian restaurant! I also had the chance to go to their cellar! It was pretty awesome to see. They had wine bottles from the 1970’s wow! I would recommend Archeologia for anyone who wants to experience great food, with great service at a very affordable cost! I can’t wait to visit Rome and eat here again! :) Thank you to the staff and well done to the chef and his team!

I rarely write reviews, but my experience here was so staggeringly bad that it feels like a public service announcement. This was one of the most expensive meals I’ve ever had in Rome — and quite possibly the worst meal I’ve had anywhere. The pasta arrived completely raw (and not in the charming, “al dente” way — I mean chalky, inedible). The dishes were devoid of flavour, as if the kitchen had forgotten that seasoning exists. Portion sizes were absurd — not in a generous way, but in a “you’ll need to stop for food on the way home” way. The service was equally dismal. Staff seemed indifferent at best and openly dismissive at worst, leaving us feeling like unwelcome intruders rather than paying guests. For the astronomical prices charged, I expected at least competence, if not excellence. Instead, I left hungry, frustrated, and lighter in the wallet. I forgot to mention that I had a sleeping baby in the pram at the table, which the waiter continued to knock into the wall very firm. I was so shocked that I continued to put my arm out to stop him after he did it multiple times. Rome has countless wonderful restaurants that take pride in their food and hospitality. This is not one of them. My advice: go anywhere else.

Il Pagliaccio is a high-end restaurant located in the heart of Rome, known for its creative Mediterranean cuisine and chic, bare-brick dining room. The restaurant has earned two Michelin stars and is led by French-born Calabrian chef Anthony Genovese. With a focus on refined, high-quality gastronomy, Il Pagliaccio offers some of the most original dishes in the Eternal City.
An Unforgettable Dining Experience! Yesterday, my son and I had the privilege of dining at Il Pagliaccio restaurant, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. We chose the 10-course tasting menu with the enchanting name “Circus.” From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the chef himself, who exuded kindness and enthusiasm. The staff who attended to us were incredibly professional, friendly, and attentive. The charming ladies with bright eyes and radiant smiles guided us through each dish, explaining every masterpiece in exquisite detail. The wine list was nothing short of luxurious, featuring an impressive selection from around the world. As for the dishes themselves, they were nothing less than a gastronomic explosion! Each small plate was a symphony of flavors, offering intricate taste notes and delightful aftertastes that left us in awe. Every bite was a masterpiece, and we were utterly captivated by the creativity and precision of the cuisine. We couldn’t be happier with our choice of restaurant for our short one-day trip to Rome. Exceptional food paired with impeccable and gracious service made for a truly memorable evening. With heartfelt gratitude, Elena Darcy.

This 2-star Michelin restaurant, a MEMBER OF LES GRANDES TABLES DU MONDE, truly impressed us. We opted for a 14-course meal with wine and alcohol pairing, and it was an incredible experience! To start with we had a restaurant within restaurant experience having the whole room all to ourselves. The food was so creatively presented and unlike anything that we’ve ever tasted anywhere else in the world dinner lasted almost 4 hours and it was such a beautiful experience.

We visited Il Pagliaccio on a whim while in Rome, and the experience did not disappoint. We chose the 10 course Circus tasting option with the wine pairing. Each dish was unique and beautifully presented. The dishes ranged from unique and interesting to truly exceptional. A few standouts were the tortella, duck, and greens desert, but every dish perfectly complemented the experience. The wine pairings were also quite good, and the variation between was thoughtful and well timed. The service was also of the highest quality, and the staff was very attentive and professional. The experience was finished off with a departing gift from the chef and staff, which was a nice touch.

Excellent meal, will definitely repeat. We had the 16 plate Parallels experience and the food was reliable delicious, imaginative, and well executed. The service was very friendly and professional. There was one failure: we specified no mussels for one of our guests and a player arrived with mussels, we pointed this out and they brought a new plate, which also had a mussel! Finally they brought a third plate with no mussels, but the sauce still tasted of mussels so it was unclear if they had been used in the preparation. The waitress apologised but when you potentially put somebody's life in danger you should make more of an apology. Own up to your mistakes. That said, the rest of the experience was excellent.

Good experience. We did the 10-course tasting menu, with 3-wine pairing. 3 wines option was a great option, not too much but well fitting the menu. Food was good in general, but sometimes you need to be open-minded and be a bit adventurous. Service was excellent matched the Michelin stars rating. The farewell gift was a nice gesture.
Peter A — Google review
This is not a typical restaurant. The food was so inspired and so many flavors. Every dish was an explosion of flavor more intense than the last. We had the circus 10 course tasting menu - my absolute favorite was the tortellini with duck inside. But everything they brought on the tasting menu was exceptional. The service is so top notch and the experience is so worth the price. You will leave both satisfied and happy! So many interesting techniques used and flavor combinations introduced. The reimagining of cacao e Pepe was wild.
Dan G — Google review
Best meal I have ever had, I opted for the 10 course lunch on my first vacation in Rome, and man was it worth it. The servics was on point, the food was perfectly seasoned and cooked, but most importantly they did an amazing job of telling a story and making it an experience for the diner. They did a great job at really letting the quality of ingredients speak for themselves while still having a sense of wonder and creativity. If I could rate 10 stars I would. There’s a reason they have 2 Michelin stars, I don’t know when the next time I’ll get a chance to come back to Rome but when I do I know I’ll be back.
Alex M — Google review
Somewhat underwhelming. We did the 10-course tasting menu - the food was great. Service is impeccable, peaceful ambience. We asked for wine pairing but somehow no such option was offered/available so this really diminished the experience. The sommelier just gave us this extensive book of wines. The pauses between some of the dishes were quite lengthy and it took some time to get the bill. The farewell gift was a nice gesture but fairly bland.

Pesci Fritti is a charming restaurant in Rome, Italy that offers a relaxed atmosphere with nautical decor and outdoor seating. The menu features typical dishes and seafood specialties. Customers have praised the tender and succulent octopus first course, although some found it slightly lacking in flavor. The seafood stew is noted for its generous portion of shellfish, but some felt it was over salted and lacked flavor. However, the bread served with it was highly appreciated.

Exceptional cuisine, beautifully prepared. The scallops were sweet in a subtle broth. Tuna tartar was a robust portion with a savory flavor. We had fish both grilled and fried, with such expertise. The flavor and texture was matched by the aesthetic plating. This may be one of Rome’s best kept secrets.
Elizabeth T — Google review
It is a cozy spot for dinner. Their octopus first course was tender and succulent but slightly lacks flavor. I chose the seafood stew as my main course. The portion and variety of shellfish is very generous for €24, but quantity does not replace quality. This dish again lacks flavor with the exception of it being over salted. It was great to soak up the awesome bread with though! For dessert, I picked the flan do ricotta. If you're looking for a creamy dessert, this is not your thing. The flan has the texture of extra firm tofu. It is light and airy like a sponge but not dry nor overly sweet. Overall, this is great little place for seafood if you are not in the mood for pasta after pasta. However, it is slightly over rated in my opinion.

It’s a great Italian seafood restaurant. We found it on our way back to the hotel after an opera. We were initially a bit sceptical because we had a terrible experience ordering seafood in Naples. Still, we decided to go because it was late evening and there were few choices. What a good decision it was! The grilled octopus was amazing - exactly what we imagined it should be. The spaghetti with red shrimp was perfectly spiced with a little kick, and the seared tuna was on a bed of, I want to say, vegetables shaped as spaghetti? It’s with passion fruit dressing, something we’ve never tried before. We should have found this hidden gem earlier.

Probably the best grilled Octopus ever. They boil it first then grill. Very tender and tasty. The seafood mixed grill which a tomato base soup was fantastic. We were really impressed. I suggest a reservation but if you come early in the day you should be able to get in. The staff was extremely helpful and on point.

Bistrot64 is a unique dining experience that combines Italian and Japanese culinary traditions in a modern setting. It has gained recognition as the most affordable Michelin-starred restaurant in Italy, offering excellent value for its scintillating flavor combinations. Chef Kotaro Noda's dishes are masterpieces, featuring vibrant colors and innovative ingredients that fuse Italian simplicity with Japanese inventiveness.
We chose this restaurant based on the segment in Stanley Tucci’s series, unaware that the chef has changed. But we were not disappointed. Every dish was inventive, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The antipasti were delightful. The lentils with the hazelnut cream surprise was enlightened. The foie gras course a mini feast. The staff was friendly and gracious, but understaffed as the evening went on and a large group took everyone’s attention.

It was a disappointment - both for Michelin recommended and as a Japanese restaurant (and I like Japanese). Most dishes were simply not tasty - some even uneatable! We took the 7-courses meal. This is very far from a Michelin starred (which it is not as far as I understand). Waiter got a cold and continued to sneeze and cough - not a pleasing experience. Did not clean the table between courses until the end of the meal. Dishes looked nice but again - not tasty!

You must go to this restaurant. I love a tasting menu and this one is up there as one of the best ever. We had "Evolution" which is their "best of" and every dish was really delicious. When in Rome, escape the tourist spots and go to neighborhood restaurants like this. They are always my favourite place to eat. The spaghetti was rich and yummy and the fish super fresh. You won't regret it. This experience in London would be double the price. Incredible value for money.

Dining shouldn’t just be a feast of flavors and textures, it should also be a feast for the eyes and soul, and Bistrot64 delivers this feast in abundance. The tasting menu is an experience you will remember. When you entrust the chef to serve you a surprise, you should expect to enjoy the experience but perhaps not every single bite. Don’t get me wrong, the food is prepared perfectly with presentation that is elegant and creative, but you will not be leaving thinking that that is the best xyz you’ve ever eaten. First up, the 4 item amuse-bouche was probably the best course. Beautiful, flavorful and different in every bite. The soup course - the lentil was Roman al-dente with an earthiness of hazelnut. The first course aubergine was light and tangy but needed salt. The pasta was rich and decadent with hints of the sea and the land without either over powering each other. But then the fish was a disappointment - nicely seared turbot just not nice enough to carry itself as a minimalist dish, and its sauce was too tart. The last course, the dessert was simply divine with a light mouse tasting much like a pavlova with a chilled fruit and cheese filling. Overall a wonderful dining experience in a beautiful setting at $75, a fraction of what it would cost in NYC. Service was attentive. Highly recommend.
Jacqueline C — Google review
Again, like many others we went because of Tucci’s recommendation and we were disappointed. The presentation of the food was beautiful but it lacked taste or any essence. We had tomatoes that were ok. Lentils that were cooked in a sauce that tasted almost like liquorice sauce , udon/pasta drowned in butter and a square piece of baccalà cod fish that was a one inch square. We watched the reactions and faces of diners and they had the same reactions to us but all too polite to say anything. We have eaten all over the world in other Michelin star restaurants and this was really poor. It was taking cheap products and trying to make something of it but trying too hard. We are in Italy - you should really let the produce speak for themselves. I am never a fussy eater but my husband watched me struggle through 5 courses including dessert. The waiters and service was phenomenal- efficient, kind and knowledgeable. That might have just saved the evening. I know reviews like this affect earnings of restaurants but I hope you will take this as a constructive criticism to review your menu and to give real value to customers who come on the back of Tucci’s recommendations.
Edwina V — Google review
We struggled with the thought of getting a 5 course with wine but worth it. Food, service and atmosphere was the best. If you appreciate high quality go!
Shannon L — Google review
Bistrot64 is a rather innovative Italian neobistrot with clear Japanese influences. It plays around with techniques and ingredients to create dishes, many based on Italian classics, that sometimes shine, sometimes may seem too clean, yet are made in such a pure and clean style that, as a food lover, I cannot help but admire. In a sense you may take it more as an art museum where you enjoy the craft as much as the “tasty factor”. Our tasting menu certainly played around with purity and vegetable replacement of pasta and minimalism shined through everything. There was the very simple but excellent raw shrimp with herb and olive oil, there was pasta made of celeriac root, there was the potato carbonara with undercooked potato producing the al dente effect, the risotto with radicchio and powerful cheese, the almost classic Venetian yeel, the steak and explosion of citrus and chocolate presented in small cubes of joy. I cannot say that every dish was equally good or curious but the idea of purity and precision permeated every presentation. We will certainly be back!

Il San Lorenzo is a chic Mediterranean restaurant adorned with contemporary art and offering an inventive seafood menu. Situated in the heart of Rome, it's known for serving some of the finest and priciest fish dishes in the city. The restaurant offers tasting menus as well as a selection of meticulously crafted seafood dishes such as red prawns from Ponza, spaghetti with sea urchins, sea bass fillet, and Catalan-style prawns from Ponza and scampi.
I was a walk in, looking for a dinner alone. The staff were friendly and super welcoming, finding me a table even though it was a Saturday night. Very attentive service and great wine recommendations, I had the tasting menu and was not disappointed. Really recommend this place, especially if you’re a solo traveller.

Amazing experience when you are looking for fish cuisine in Roma. This restaurant could easily grab a Michelin star if it continues like this. Only downside, the person accepting and placing us to our table was clearly below nice. I would have rated it lower if our waiter and the Maître d'H were not so amazing.

Unfortunately, Il San Lorenzo was our worst dining experience in Rome. From the start, we felt unwelcome — the staff was overly strict about where we placed our baby stroller, despite the restaurant being mostly empty. We were seated near the kitchen in a hot, uncomfortable area, even though a cooler, air-conditioned room was available. It seems discriminating. The food was mediocre and forgettable, especially compared to the high standards we experienced in Venice and Milan. Nothing stood out in flavor or presentation. What made the experience worse was the cold, almost dismissive attitude from the staff, which left us feeling uncomfortable — at times even wondering if we were being treated differently for being Asian. Overall, between the lack of hospitality, the non-functioning AC, and the underwhelming food, we wouldn’t return. Rome has many better options.

The food was good, but for a place that expensive I was expecting a better service they brought us the wrong food and other food took a lot of time to come. Over all I would recommend this place only to someone who really enjoys raw fish. But the service isn’t at high enough level.

Incredible place.. we stumbled in looking for Asian food and realized they needed reservations due to how busy they were. However, rather than tell us nothing was available they found a way to fit us in. Incredible service and amazing food. The photos do not do the presentation justice. Our server explained each element of the food as they source farm to table so to speak. Their interpretations of traditional Chinese and other Asian cuisine are both modern and yet clearly traditional. A fantastic break from the traditional Italian food in the area makes this a must visit when here. The table service and knowledge of the wait staff will make this a repeated destination for us.

We chose this restaurant for a group of six people, including guests from China, based on recommendations from the Michelin Guide and some positive reviews on Google Maps. The location was also convenient, being close to our hotel. Now for my impressions. The interior of the restaurant leaves much to be desired—basic design with no particular charm or aesthetic details. But that’s not the most important issue. The real problems start with hygiene. The restroom was in a filthy state, with a strong unpleasant odor, cobwebs in the corners, and soap that was hard to find. It was clear that proper cleaning is not a priority here. As for the kitchen hygiene, we couldn’t check, of course, as we were just guests. Service was perhaps the most shocking part. It’s rare to encounter such open rudeness and dishonesty from staff. We asked for a larger table to comfortably accommodate our group, especially for our Chinese friends, but were denied, supposedly because the area was “reserved.” In reality, the restaurant was mostly empty, with only a few tables occupied by 2–3 people. No one made any effort to ask what we wanted or explain the dishes. The service felt careless and rushed—like they just wanted to get tourists in, serve something basic, and send them off as quickly as possible. I would rate the service a 0 or maybe a 1 out of 10. As for the food—our Chinese friend commented that the only Chinese element was the chopsticks. Everything else was a poor imitation. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Restaurants like this only tarnish the reputation of Chinese cuisine and culture.

This restaurant serves good chinese food. The 扬州炒饭 (yangchou fried rice) is the best compared to many restaurant even in china itself. We also ordered chairman prok belly and mapo tofu and all of them are delicious.

Maybe the best Chinese restaurant we’ve had ever! (Outside of China) Didn’t expect to find this in Rome, but the flavours were so authentic and fresh. Absolutely amazing. If all the pasta and pizza is getting to you, please check out this Michelin recommended restaurant near the Pantheon for a bit of Chinese Cuisine!

What a plain disappointment. Very nice food combined with uttermost sad service. It all started with a miserable menu card as you know it for 10$ a meal Chinese ripp-off restaurants. This after you were shoved off to the miserable corner of the entrance fully decorated with guide Michelin BIP gourmand sticker from old times. Sorry there are much better ways so spend your evening in Rome. In fact many.
A. M — Google review
The food was tasty, not bad. The portion was small compared to the price. If you want to try a Michelin restaurant expecting to pay a little higher price for a little refined presentation and details, this place answers you. But if you want just a tasty Chinese food, there are more options out there.
Nui L — Google review
Terrible service by a waitress for a Michelin standard restaurant. Should have explained the dishes and portioning better. When asked about a dish, she kept repeating the name of the noodles which didn’t help with the explanation. Portioning was way off, as we are a family of 4 with 2 kids and we ended up over ordering — again no explanation from the waitress on how the portions were done. Some positive notes, the rest of the service crew was great and food is good too except for the pork dish which was overly salty and the wanton soup was bland with finger tip sized filling for the wonton. Feels like drinking plain water with pasta.

Taverna Agàpe is a charming restaurant located in the picturesque Piazza San Simeone, offering a reinterpretation of traditional Roman cuisine. The menu features classic yet creative dishes made with high-quality, seasonal ingredients, including a variety of seafood options. With indoor and outdoor seating, the taverna provides a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. Guests praise the attentive service and recommend trying signature dishes like carbonara and amatriciana.
Great atmosphere very authentic, not too touristy. Staff were very friendly and chatty, great with recommendations. Food was amazing, I had a pasta dish simple but delicious. Quite a few locals were dining as well. Would highly recommend a visit.

We had such a great dinner and experience at Taverna Agape! The food was absolutely amazing. We recommend the amatriciana, carbonara and caccio e peppe. They even had gluten free options available. Ostere and Andrea were so sweet and funny. They kept us laughing all night and made us feel like family. We would highly recommend!

Lobster appetizer, tomahawk ribeye, and fabulous bottle of wine recommended by our sommelier Rino was excellent. Best meal we had in Rome and service was excellent by Jenel. Oh and the limoncello!!! Favalosa!!

I ordered oxtail in tomato sauce, but they gave me this. As you can see, there is one small piece of oxtail!! I was so flustered! I ordered it for my mom! I asked the waiter about this, he gave us another dish without any apology or excuse. Still, I don’t know I got the right dish because I couldn’t find the picture of the same dish I’d gotten from the waiter. I know they don’t care my review at all, but I want to share my experience here. The plating was a total mess. I’ll never forgive the person who treated me this way and destroyed the precious time I had with my mother, and I hope their God doesn’t either.

Taverna Agape is one of my favorite places in Rome. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The staff is so kind every time we visit. A special thank-you to Reno for being so thoughtful and for recommending amazing wines. I always look forward to coming back and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Rome.

Taverna Agàpe is a true gem and has become our favorite spot for a reason. As a regular, I can attest that it's the perfect place for both elegant dinners and relaxed gatherings with friends and family. The seafood is the real star here—it's fresh and expertly prepared. The ambience is another highlight; it's elegant yet comfortable, making it a great choice for important events. We always prefer to sit inside to fully appreciate the beautiful setting. While the service can be a bit slow at times, we actually find this to be a positive, as it encourages conversation and a leisurely pace between courses. It's an excellent place to unwind. The wine selection is fantastic, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended for anyone looking for fresh seafood, a great atmosphere, and a lovely dining experience.

Best carbonara I have ever had. When I come back to Rome, I will take whomever I am with here. I may even come back for it again before I leave during this trip! Jewel was amazing as our server.

A lovely dining experience. My wife and I had a late Sunday lunch here. We dined outside because the weather permitted this. The food choice is very good, and authentic. The service was also very good. We picked this restaurant not only because it looked good (first impression), but also because we noticed many table were occupied by locals (it wasn’t just a tourist restaurant). They had a good choice of specials for the day written in a blackboard, and also a couple missing (since we dined late), so which confirmed the genuineness of the restaurant. Furthermore it was family run run, and the staff looked happy working there, which says a lot in itself nowadays. Highly recommended

Hosteria Grappolo d'oro is a popular restaurant located near the Leonardo Museum and Campo de Fiori in Rome. It has gained recognition for its use of locally sourced ingredients and offers a relaxed yet pleasant dining experience with both indoor and outdoor seating options. The menu features a variety of Roman dishes such as antipasti, pasta, meat, and fish, accompanied by regional wines. Reservations are recommended due to its popularity.
Hosteria Grappolo d’Oro absolutely lives up to its Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition—and then some. The food was exceptional, with every dish delivering on flavor, balance, and presentation. The mix of appetizers was a standout: beautifully varied, thoughtful, and a perfect introduction to the kitchen’s strengths. They were also happy to accommodate small changes off the menu, which added a personal touch to the experience. Service was warm, attentive, and professional, without being overbearing. Altogether, it was the kind of meal that leaves you already planning your return. An easy yes if you’re in Rome.

We had lunch here three days in a row, and the quality never once let us down. The menu always offered plenty of tempting choices, and we were never disappointed. Over those visits, we tried their fish — perfectly cooked and with nothing unnecessary — a lamb dish, starters, homemade pasta, and their cheese starter. We’d also recommend checking the board with their daily specials; they sometimes have interesting variations, and you can either ask your waiter or read it yourself. Their espresso was just amazing, so delicate yet rich and full of flavor! Everything we tried was wonderful, and our waiter was friendly and helpful in recommending wine pairing with the dishes. The whole team was warm and welcoming every time. And in August, when so many good places are closed, it’s such a bonus that they remain open for lunch.

One of our best meals in Italy! Authentic Roman food! The Carbonara was to die for! We also got an order of Cacio e pepe and it was soooo good. The pastas are the first course, and then for the 2nd course we had the most buttery, light and flaky fish of all time. They truly know how to cook at this restaurant! House wines are delish as well. If they have it, treat yourself to the homemade peach ice cream, you will not be disappointed!

We loved this little restaurant right off of Camp De' Fiori, and ate here twice during our week long visit. Fantastic pastas and classic Roman dishes, like braised beef cheek. Waitstaff is kind and helpful. Be aware that pasta is cooked to order and does take some time. Relax and enjoy an appetizer, some great wine, and good conversation.

Fantastic dinner in Rome with the family. Tasting menu for the adults, pasta dishes for both our kids - delivered alongside ours so they weren't sat waiting whilst we ate. Really good service, tasty food and very well priced!

Came across this restaurant in the Michelin food guide and also located near our hotel. Based on the reviews we were expecting good but it exceeded our expectations. We decided on the tasting menu for the full experience as were advised the portions were half size. The appetizers were incredible, if I went again we would definitely order a full portion of the meatballs 💛 soft and melted in your mouth but crispy on the outside. The different take on the panzanella was also delicious. Pasta and the portions were spot on 👌🏻 For the seconds I enjoyed the beef but my partners lamb was a standout. Definitely recommend for a true authentic experience with a twist !

Best dinner we’ve had so far in Italy, started with the Panzanella which was an amazing starter. For the main I had the Cacio e Pepe, which was the highlight of the night, so much flavour for such a simple dish. Finished with the tiramisu which was also super creamy. Great service and wine as well, glad we found this gem

I would highly recommend the Cacio e Pepe. From the first bite, you can tell that the pasta is made fresh in the restaurant and it was cooked to perfection. The meatballs in green sauce were a delicious appetizer. I was shocked by how low the prices are, considering the high quality of the food.

Nestled in the charming Prati district of Rome, Almato is a polished gem that beautifully marries sophisticated Italian cuisine with an intimate dining experience. Founded by three childhood friends—Alberto Martelli, Manfredi Custureri, and chef Tommaso Venuti—this restaurant draws inspiration from their shared love for rugby and culinary innovation.
Excellent course menu. We enjoyed the 5 course tasting with paired wines. Some very unusual but fantastic flavours. Our waiter was quite young but delightful, knowledgeable and obviously very skilled at his recommendations and in his guidance through the menu. Would certainly recommend but come hungry. We rolled out after 5 courses. The complementary dishes were extremely generous.

Is more like 4,5 stars. The food was amazing and the service was great. Though there were some stuff I did not understood. Like why should my server touch my serviette and put it on my lap? Apart that this is not hygienic, I did not even had 10 seconds after ordering to do that on my own. I ordered the biggest menu, which was the 7 course. I eat a lot in fine dining restaurants so I know the is always the "greetings of the chef" and sometimes a last mini dessert extra. This time I got not only a greeting and the mini dessert, but also a whole extra course, as a gift. The problem was that exactly that course was bigger than the others and after that the last course before dessert, was even larger. So when the first dessert arrived, I was almost exploding, because I was full. But in general the quality was awesome and I had very much fun there.

We are very happy with our visit! Small and cozy place. The service is up to the highest standards. The food is worhy of a michelin star. Book a table in advance, order the 5 or 7 course menu and expect to have a great time.

We visited Almato out of curiosity as it is mentioned in a Michelin guide. The restaurant aspires for its first star and I am pretty sure they will get it soon. Magical experience, the food is excellent 👌 and the way it looks- masterpiece. Only the pasta with lemon grass was too bitter for us. Dessert was absolutely to die for, we haven't eaten a better one ever. "Cappuccino" - I can only give a hint that it isn't what it looks like ;) Thank you for an excellent and friendly service too it was an absolute pleasure to visit Almato.

Almato was absolutely perfect! The sommelier and waiter were both wonderful and made sure we had the best experience. They brought us so many tastings outside of what we ordered and the house-made focaccia was the most incredible touch. Thank you to the staff at Almato for the most amazing meal!

Trattoria Vecchia Roma is a charming trattoria and pizzeria that has been serving up Roman specialties since 1916. The restaurant's traditional decor, with burgundy walls adorned with frescoes and bare-brick arches, creates an intimate and classic atmosphere for diners. One of the unique dining experiences offered at Trattoria Vecchia Roma is the opportunity to have pasta flambeed in a giant Parmesan wheel.
We went here on our last night in Rome, and couldn’t have ended our stay in a better way! The food, service and atmosphere were all great I wish I could go back. Service was quick, as there was plenty of staff staying on top of dishes being removed and bringing food quickly. This was a big deal for us as parents with a toddler who likes to play around with everything on the table. But for the food, we had the Italia pizza and cod nuggets as a starter, which I am still thinking about! The mushroom ravioli and spaghetti I would highly recommend.
Leen S — Google review
Had to wait a couple of minutes for a table but that is probably a positive. Atmosphere is excellent, same for the food. Had the bucatini Amatriciana, the smokiness of the dish was probably suited to a colder night but the dish was perfect. Same for the humble roasted potatoes. The staff were attentive and fast even during an amazingly busy service. Had the White House wine that was also very good. Would definitely visit again.
Spyros B — Google review
This restaurant is definitely an internet celebrity. If you don't make a reservation in advance, you will never be able to have a comfortable dinner under normal circumstances. Even though I made a reservation, I still had to wait at the door for about 15 minutes. Walk-in customers have to wait at least two to three hours. If you come here because of its fame, you have to be mentally prepared. When it comes to food, it offers some special dishes that are different from traditional Italian cuisine. I especially recommend its fried appetizers, and the pasta taste is not very outstanding. I also recommend its red wine oxtail, which is worthy of praise and a must-try.

We had such a great night at Trattoria Vecchia Roma — definitely one of our favorite meals in Italy! We ordered a few classic Italian dishes: a Napoli pizza with mozzarella and anchovies, Spaghetti alla Carbonara con Tartufo (with eggs, bacon, and pecorino cheese), and an artichoke salad that our waitress recommended. We also had a bottle of Acqua Nepi sparkling water to go with everything. Luckily, we made a reservation ahead of time, so we got seated quickly. The line outside was already pretty long before the restaurant even opened! The vibe inside was cozy and lively, and the staff were super friendly and efficient. We even got to chat with the manager or owner at the cashier — he was really welcoming and kind. We left the restaurant feeling full and happy. It was such a great experience, and we’d totally recommend it to anyone visiting Rome. We’d love to come back next time we’re in town!

Was last here 6 years ago n now I’d returned! Chanced upon this place by accident then n never forgotten how good their pasta was. In those days we didn’t rely too much on social media reviews but I strongly recommend this place as their pasta was really top notch. Still busy as before but it is worse now🤪. Had booked this months ahead when I did my booking for Rome. Reasonable price with good quality of food. What more to ask for? My advice is to book online in advance.
Tadd W — Google review
Wait staff moves with speed and efficiency. Not a place to linger at your table as they are very busy during peak dinner hours and in need of quick turn over of the tables. Cacio e pepe was full of flavor and pasta was perfectly cooked. Cabonara was also well prepared but was a bit too heavy for me (flavor of pork fat was too much). Bruschetta was a favorite. Carciofi all Giudia was delish. The tiramisu and Saltimbocca were... meh... At the end of the day, would recommend a try.

We went spontaneous for my birthday because I read some good reviews. And let me tell you: it was totally worth the waiting time. The food was spectacular, the service fast and friendly and the prices really fair. Thank you so much for the nice evening!

Pasta was very good though too salty. Prices are good and portions are big. The place is very cozy with a traditional look and all the traditional dishes. We made a reservation for lunchtime since often the olace seemed busy from the outside but it wasn't very crowded actually, though the service was a bit slow and we struggled to get the attention of our waitress.

This place was the vibe! Non touristy, large families/friends dining, having a laugh, the hosts/waiters all so sweet, helpful, welcoming and last but not the least, The food.. loved the pastas, the eggplant appetizer, the wine recommendations, the tiramisu (could have done without the chocolate sauce)everything was fantastic. I went there with my family. The pasta and lamb are all fantastic - we enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. The portions are also good, though the service here are not very attentive. Our first night in to Rome and we could only get a 3 PM reservation, because of the time difference it was perfect. The food was exceptional. The staff made us feel right at home and I would say it was the best meal of the trip so far and we’ve had many. I would recommend this Restuarant to all my foodies five star. Make sure you get the pasta dish called casa de Pepe!!
Mark B — Google review
How were they able to make a simple mozzarella and prosciutto starter melt in your mouth like this? Unfussy, uncomplicated but oh so effective. We learned that Carbonara is a Roman dish, so we decided to order Felicé's and WOW!! Rich but palatable sauce, crispy bacon and al dente pasta - it was out of this world. The staff were great with English. They were effective and professional and it felt they had huge pride in the quality of their food. We dined here Wednesday 8th October at 19:00 hours on the terrace. They fired up the outside heaters for us and that kept us very comfortable all night. We enjoyed our time here so much we decided to have lunch here before our return journey to England. We turned up 15 minutes after opening time assuming it would be quiet (12:45) but it was already packed out and theu could just about squeeze us in. Highly recommended. The locals love it. We'd return but we do recommend you make a booking. Of our four restaurants we dined in during our 4 night stay in Rome, Felicé was our favourite.

Truly a destination for Roman pastas. Go for Cacio e Pepe and Carbonara. Excellent handmade tonarelli and very generous portions. Service can be improved but the food makes up for it. Do not miss the tiramisu, one of the best things they have.

I really didn’t like this place. Service was incredibly slow and kept forgetting our orders and we kept having to remind them over and over. Atmosphere was super loud like people were shouting constantly at the other tables, very uncivilised. The food was so mid, not worth the insanely expensive price. I just think a carbonara for more than 12 euros nowadays is insane.
Iris M — Google review
⭐ Overhyped and disappointing We went to Felice after hearing countless recommendations, but sadly, the experience did not live up to the hype. The only star goes to the sommelier, who gave us a good wine suggestion. Everything else was a letdown. It took 50 minutes before anyone even came to take our order. We tried waving, calling, waiting… nothing. It became awkward, three of us sitting there with our hands raised, clearly being ignored. When someone finally approached, they told us to wait for “the person with the tablet” and just walked away. No help offered. When the food came, things didn’t improve. The carbonara arrived slightly cold and 7 minutes before the other dishes. Then came two cacio e pepes that could not have been more different: one so peppery it was almost inedible, the other extremely dry. Anyone who knows this dish knows it’s all about balance, and that’s exactly what was missing here. They insist on finishing the cacio e pepe at the table, probably to look good on TikTok, but that completely ruins the sauce. If you want a show, pick another dish, not this one. At €19, it was the most expensive cacio e pepe I’ve had in Italy, and definitely not worth it. We decided to cut the dinner short, but even asking for the check turned into another test of patience. After being ignored again, we just went to pay at the counter. As we walked out, we saw staff already cleaning our table, honestly, it summed up the whole experience. ⚠️ Verdict: One star for the sommelier, everything else was chaos, confusion, and disappointment. Overrated and overpriced.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ By chance, our cab driver on the way to a morning tour recommended this place for “the best cacio e pepe in Rome”. But we’d already booked it for the same evening! Our choice was validated by his recommended and punctuated the second we arrived. Service was lovely, atmosphere/ambience was fantastic, and the place was packed, seemingly with locals, not tourists. Every dish hit high notes, and of course the cacio e pepe was the best we had while in Rome. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend getting off the beaten path to try this place.

Lo Scopettaro is a venerable trattoria in Rome, offering classic Roman recipes such as pasta and pizza, along with a selection of Italian wines. Established in 1930, it originated as a broom shop but quickly transformed into a trattoria when the owner's wife prepared a delicious pasta dish that attracted numerous guests.
This was a real “hidden” gem! It is not very well known and recommended by an Italian, but it is close to Trastevere on foot. We went for dinner and tried a few of their pastas, a chicken, and, of course, some dessert! The restaurant was busy, mainly Italians, which is a good sign, and everything we had was delightful! We had a lovely dinner, but our waiter didn't speak English; I would communicate in Spanish, and he would reply in Italian 😂 it made for some pleasant interactions, and we left with our hearts (and tummy) full❤️

My husband and I were recommended to try this place out for the carbonara and let me tell you it was perfection! What a fantastic restaurant, with helpful staff who were more than happy to advise on traditional dishes, and accommodate us without reservation (it was busy!). We had dinner here twice in the week we were in Rome. Cacio e pepe, bruschetta, tiramisu, melanzane, and pajata (proper classic!). Nice house red wine, and relaxed atmosphere. We ate both outside and in the dining room downstairs. Would love to go back!

A solo diner, was welcomed with the most wonderful service, with offering of the prime table. The exceptional experience continued with prompt delivery of apertivo. A little while soaking up the live music from the square and my waitress delivers a platter of assorted bruschetta, l was a little confused as l hadn’t placed a food order, she replied the kitchen sends complimentary. Well these were beyond delicious. And honestly completely filling, but l felt obligated to order a main. I asked my waitress what she could recommend and the clams/vongole was the choice. Utterly divine but try as l might could manage to finish only half. What a lovely evening. A restaurant that could rely on prime position and not deliver but this is truly not to be missed. A five star for me

The menu hits all the right notes: classic pasta dishes like cacio e pepe and carbonara are rich and flavorful, while the grilled meats and daily specials offer variety for heartier appetites. The wine list leans local and pairs beautifully with the food. Service is warm and attentive, without being overbearing. Prices are fair for the quality and location. Verdict: A solid pick in Trastevere—great food, lovely setting, and a reliable go-to for an authentic Roman meal. Reservations recommended, especially on weekends.

Great lunch here today. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. My wife had the ravioli and I had the lamb chops. We both enjoyed them. We would definitely return.

The best carbonara we had in Rome!! Food and service were amazing and we wish we had time to go back again!

Fiancé was halfway through her pasta with truffle on it when she realized the large chunk of truffle she had already ate some of was infested with at least 4 LIVE worms/maggots? We took a video of them moving. I called the waiter over, he returned saying it was ?normal? For this to happen with fresh ingredients? (What???) and offered to remake the dish.. lol do you think she still had an appetite? After they brought out 3 free shots of Limoncello to try and smooth over the situation. AT MINIMUM they should have not charged us for her meal. Ridiculous. The manager didnt even bother to walk out and apologize in person. Crazy.

Nestled just a short stroll from the iconic Trevi Fountain, Maccheroni is a hidden gem that offers an authentic taste of Roman cuisine away from the tourist crowds. This charming trattoria attracts local politicians during lunchtime, who savor generous servings of handmade pasta and delectable Roman artichokes in its spacious setting featuring three interconnected rooms and an open kitchen. As evening falls, Maccheroni transforms into a lively dining spot where locals gather for hearty meals.
What a lovely restaurant! Food was absolutely delicious as was the house wine. Very friendly staff who were extremely busy but we didn't feel that we had to wait long for anything or felt rushed the leave. Very reasonably priced bill even with the tip. Would definitely recommend to stop here but maybe book as it gets full quickly.

One of the best pastas in Italy! My parents came here on their anniversary, and i came here two years ago and once again this year and the quality is incredible. The rigatoni gricia is to die for so cheesy and delicious. The Greek salad was super fresh and light. Love this restaurant, also the house wine is amazing. Super authentic and a great atmosphere.

After two weeks in Italy we stopped here for lunch; only to be indulged with the best pasta yet. A place that cannot be missed. Our waiter was tremendous and the cannelloni was to die for.

What a gem! This place is still golden after so many years. We stumbled across this restaurant on one of our trips to Rome many years ago and fell in love with it (to the tune of returning for dinner every night that trip - and dinner every trip since!). This is one of those special places that has it all: delicious food, very reasonable prices, exceptional staff, and an amazing atmosphere. We’ve recommended this restaurant to hundreds of friends over the years and they’ve never been disappointed. About to round out our third consecutive night at Maccheroni for dinner on this October 2025 trip and it once again has exceeded our memories and expectations. Grazie mille to the whole staff! We will continue to see you in the years ahead. PS: start selling the black maccheroni tshirts again! lol ;)

Love the staff at Maccheroni. You're in for a good time when you go here. Recommend making a reservation or you're not going to get near the place. Started with two apps, the pecorino, walnut, honey, and arugula appetizer, as well as a pear salad. BUT, it's all about the pasta (or Maccheroni, to say it properly)! We had pasta arrabiata which was nice and spicy, and the cacio e pepe was also delicious. I had the pasta alla gricia (not Greece lol). This became an inside joke between us and the server, we said it like the country, but it's not, it's the style of the pasta. Outside of the apps and pasta, the grilled chicken was very tasty. So, anything you order here is going to be good. They also suggested a specific Italian soda when asked for Sprite (they didn't have it), called Gazzosa. I've since ordered some online because it was so good. Take their suggestions on things, you'll be pleasantly surprised you did!

A wonderful spot tucked between the city’s many tourist traps, this place is a true gem. The food was absolutely delicious; while slightly on the pricier side, it’s well worth it. The cacio e pepe and the spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino are must-tries, and don’t leave without tasting the tiramisu—it’s exceptional.

Outstanding Italian dining experience. Recommended to us by a local and well attended by several locals as well. The outside seating atmosphere was excellent and the service was top notch. The food and house wine were excellent. Had appetizers, first and second courses with wife and son. It was the best time we had dining together in Rome. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great restaurant where the locals eat.

LUCIANO Cucina Italiana in Rome is a charming bistro-style restaurant located near Campo de' Fiori. The restaurant offers small, simple, and informal dining rooms as well as outdoor seating in a delightful small piazza.
I’m not sure why LUCIANO Cucina Italiana has such a low Google rating, because for us, it was one of the best meals of our entire trip in Italy. If we had skipped this place, it would’ve been a real regret. We ordered their signature Carbonara and the Pasta of the Day, and both dishes were outstanding. The Carbonara was unlike any version I’ve had before — at first, the flavor felt mild and subtle, but once combined with the guanciale, it transformed into something deeply rich and memorable. The texture of the pasta was perfect, and the balance of the sauce was exceptional. It’s easily one of the few dishes from this trip that I genuinely want to have again. The staff initially seemed a bit distant, but once I mentioned that I came after seeing a Korean YouTuber’s video about the restaurant, they became very warm and cheerful, sharing a few laughs with us. Overall, LUCIANO Cucina Italiana offered an impressive mix of refined flavors, genuine Roman character, and friendly service. It’s a restaurant I would definitely return to on my next visit to Rome.

Just wow, these pastas were among the best during our trip to Rome and so were the rest of the dinner as well. I was so impressed I went there for lunch one day and dinner the next. The service was great the first time when it was a bit slower and not as many people, the helped a lot with both recommendations and opinions on wine. The second time there were more people and more stressful for the servers. I would recommend anyone to go there and try their food, it is worth the higher prices.
Gustav L — Google review
Nice place for some good pasta. My wife had heard that their carbonara is among the best in Rome, so we decided to give it a try. We were seated quickly, but unfortunately waited about 20–30 minutes before anyone came to take our order. When the waiter finally arrived and asked, “Are you ready?”, I couldn’t help but laugh — we’d been ready for quite a while! 😅 That little hiccup aside, the staff were friendly and the service improved afterwards. The food was good — tasty and well presented, but not particularly exceptional. Would I come back? Not sure. It’s a nice spot overall, but there are so many great options in Rome that I’d probably try somewhere new next time.
VIC — Google review
I’ve been a loyal customer of Luciano’s for four years and always bring my visitors here for the carbonara. It deserves far more than its current rating, as the food is consistently excellent. While some may find it pricier than the usual €10-12 versions, the quality and generous amount of real guanciale (not pancetta) make all the difference. In my opinion, this is one of the best carbonaras in Rome, executed to perfection every single time.
Flavia G — Google review
We managed to get a table as a walk in, however it is probably better to reserve as it’s a very popular spot! We were seated at the pass so we had a great view of the chefs at work. The carbonara was delicious, the best pasta of our trip! We also had tiramisu that was great and a clever chocolate disc in the middle. This was a lovely stop in a hectic day in Rome!

Incredible experience. Best Carbonara in Rome. Absolutely delicious, you must come here if you visit Rome and you like eating great food. Desserts were delicious (especially the tiramisu). Service and attention from the people working there was awesome!

This place just do good execution of the carbonara pasta. The rest is just ok. We arrived with reservation, the place has a cocktail bar. We decide to get a cocktail. The negroni was ok, the limoncello spritz wasn't good. We ordered the tartar with truffles, the tartar was good but the truffles were not doing anything on the dish, not sure if the truffle was old, no aroma, no flavour. Wasn't bad, but 20€ for an entree with truffles I would expecting more. Then the star of the night, the carbonara. Is incredible. Good creamy, amazing taste, nice amount of guanciale. This is worth it every cent. My recommendation, go there for the carbonara. No need to order anything else. Luciano is a genius of the pasta. But the rest of the menu seemed nothing especial and after check the reviews and taste it. Is overpriced for all the other items, but the carbonara is worth it.

Checco Er Carettiere is a venerable tavern restaurant located in Rome's scenic Trastevere quarter. It offers classic Roman cuisine in a casual and welcoming atmosphere, with a patio for al fresco dining on warm nights. The restaurant is known for its traditional dishes such as Pasta alla carbonara, artichoke alla Giuda, abbacchio, ossobuco, and fried Fiori di Zucca.
This was one of our favorite meals in Italy. We booked a reservation for lunch, arrived, and were promptly seated. The place started filling up soon after. The food was fantastic and after we finished, the owner swung by to say hello and offered us a free sample of a dish we asked about. She was remarkably warm. We did not hear another word of English spoken here, while the area outside was swarming with Americans (we are also Americans -- love y'all, but we are a lot!). This is definitely not a "tourist trap!" We felt like we had found a true authentic experience, though we did note that the fried artichokes were on the menu even though it wasn't the season. We appreciated that because we wanted to try them. Highly recommended!

So here’s the deal: the Romans conquered half the known world but somehow forgot to conquer dessert. Pizza? Bellissima. Pasta? Divine. But pastry? Ehh. Enter the maritozzi, Rome’s answer to we had cream and bread and did our best. Checco, bless their eternal-city soul, serves up this ancient donut-meets-carb-cloud situation stuffed with what can only be described as barely-sweet whipped cream. I loved it, mostly because my sweet tooth is more of a salt craving. My tour group? They looked at it like it had just insulted their grandmother. Still, when in Rome, try the maritozzi. If not for the taste, then for the story. It’s weird. It’s charming. It’s Roman. Now, Checco has a large array of sweet goodness so after your maritozzi experience, sink your sweet tooth into other goodies.

Trattoria Da Cesare al Casaletto is a charming spot located in the residential Monteverde area of Rome. This trattoria embodies the true essence of Italian dining with its unpretentious atmosphere and authentic, carefully crafted dishes. Run by the husband-wife team of Leonardo Vignoli and Maria Pia Cicconi, this place offers a delightful array of Roman antipasti, homemade pastas, meat and fish dishes, complemented by a selection of local wines.
The food is Roman style and the quality of the food it’s good. maybe the place it’s a bit noisy and owner should fix the acoustic. But this is bearable. We had a nice evening between old school friend and the environment it’s ok for such occasion. It’s second time we come here and not dissatisfied

Soo good, we came for dinner on a recommendation and it was delicious! Book one week in advance via their website. Everything was so good; we had fresh homemade mozzarella, fried meatballs with pesto, carbonara and oxtail sauce pasta, and tiramisu and panna cotta for dessert! Highly recommend :)

We finally made it to Trattoria Da Cesare al Casaletto for a long-awaited Sunday lunch after dreaming about it for a year. This place is a true Roman institution, run like a well-oiled machine, with a lively, family-filled atmosphere that feels authentic and welcoming. The wine list is excellent—we especially loved our exquisite bottle of Etna Bianco. We enjoyed the supplì, squash blossoms, gricia, and ravioli, each dish showcasing the comforting flavors of Roman cooking. Watching families with babies gather around big Sunday meals added to the charm of the experience. Overall, a solid and memorable Roman lunch—classic, reliable, and full of energy.

Had a nice dinner here though my expectations were very high as the restaurant has excellent reviews, unfortunately I was a little let down. Actually it was rather nice to travel outside the city center, Cesare is extremely close to the final stop of the 8 tram and you get to see much more of the city and where people live coming here. Dinner started with a very nice basket of bread and we shared the eggplant croquettes and calamari fritti. The croquettes were interesting, with a nice spicy tomato sauce offset with mint. The calamari were outstanding, extremely well done. For our mains, I had the gnocchi with oxtail sugo which was really disappointing. The sauce was deep and delicious, and the gnocchi very well made however totally under salted. I wonder if they are used to salting this dish with pasta water when the rigatoni is selected? I needed to add cheese AND salt just to coax some flavor. I do like salty, though. My companions had Amitriciana and Gricia. Both were very good however an alarming amount of guanciale was used in the gricia and my companion said that is was too much and the balance of the dish was off because of it. We were a bit put off by the waiters constantly trying to remove our dishes. Like, fork still in hand and BOOM can I take your plate now? Then you have to wait 15 minutes for the bill haha. Well no one is perfect for sure. Overall it was a good experience and I’m happy we went and wish them many years of success!
Matthew P — Google review
Our main dishes of the evening were rigatoni alla Matriciana (that’s how it was spelled), gnocchi alla coda vaccinara and tonnarelli a la gricia. These were delicious with noted qualifications that the guanciale pieces with the tonnarelli were judged too large (!), the gnocchi were assessed under-salted while the coda vaccinara sauce seemed a little thin, and my serving of rigatoni was enormous (no complaint there). Read more at: https://www.painperdutravel.com It was a very successful evening and an excellent meal for 3 at only 81 euros.

The Heart of Roman Trattoria Dining Overall Rating: 4/5 Stars Stepping into Da Cesare al Casaletto felt like stepping into the quintessential Roman experience. This is more than just a restaurant; it is a living, breathing trattoria with a typical Roman spirit that envelops. The Authentic Experience: The menu is a showcase of typical Roman dishes—the classics like Cacio e Pepe, Amatriciana, Gricia are all executed to almost perfection. Every plate arrives hot, bursting with authentic flavor, and prepared with a dedication to tradition that will truly satisfy every palate. Adding to the wonderful authenticity, the staff is staff is nice, warm, attentive, and helpful. Wine & Verdict: Beyond the food, the wine list is excellent. It is extensive, thoughtfully curated, and focuses on quality, value, and artisanal/natural wines, offering great pairings for the hearty Roman cuisine. While one can certainly find more expensive restaurants of comparable food quality in Rome, Da Cesare al Casaletto offers a combination of authenticity, traditional food, an excellent wine selection. If you are in the area, this place indeed deserves a visit. It is a genuine taste of Rome that you will not forget. Assolutamente fantastico!

I took one look at the old ladies in the kitchen and said, yep this is where we'll find nonna's cooking. We had traditional wholesome food that we love. My partner had the roast coniglio with garlic and rosemary. He said it was like eating his mum's cooking again. We also ordered the rigatoni and a few seasonal side dishes which were yum. They still have the squat toilets to make the experience more authentic. We loved that it was away from the loud crowds from the main area too.

This restaurant was recommended to me by an Italian that has been living in Rome for 10 years. The quantity of the food is huge!!!!! For the price of one also 😍😍😍 the interior is amazing. There was a guy playing the guitar and singing. We booked a table using their online booking form for 8pm. When we arrived it was fairly quiet with only a handful of other couples. Very quickly though it became very busy and there was a family special occasion right opposite us which it felt a privilege to observe. The waiter was amazing. Incredibly friendly and attentive. My partner and I try and speak Italian where possible (we're very much beginners) but it seems to be appreciated. The food was excellent. I had rabbit with a side dish of chicory which was recommended by our waiter. We had a medium carafe of house white wine, both had desserts and then coffee and it was the least we've spent, though I definitely wouldn't have begrudged it costing more. A really perfect experience.

Trattoria Da Danilo is a cozy and rustic trattoria located in the Esquilino neighborhood of Rome. It exudes a nostalgic and family-friendly atmosphere with its checkered tablecloths, handwritten blackboard menu signs, and traditional Roman dishes. One of their unique offerings is the cacio e pepe, where tonnarelli, olive oil, pepper, water, and pecorino are mixed inside a large pecorino romano cheese before being served.
They refused me twice due to capacity, but the one experience I had there was amazing! Pasta with bacon, cheese and pistachio sauce! One of the best pasta I ever had. It is possible to pay by card, but there are no towels on toilet.

A nice restaurant with upstairs and downstairs table cloth tables that are intimately spaced. The establishment has been visited by several well known celebrities. The owner/manager was not as friendly as the waiting staff. The fried lamb was unusually breaded and not tasty like lamb typically is served. The Carbonara is highly recommended as some of the best you can experience. The Tiramisu is moderately good and too creamy. The atmosphere is decorated with pictures of actors and sport celebrities that have attended in the distant past. Dishes are reasonably priced and valued. If there are 4-6 in your party you will eat upstairs and 3 or less you will likely eat downstairs in the basement with no natural lighting.

Very popular with locals. We were lucky to score a table without a reservation. Carbonara is one of the best in Rome, if not the best. I'd recommend just going with the house wine.

Our first night in Rome we had the pleasure of visiting Da Danilo! It was recommended by a friend who is a Roman native and it didn’t disappoint. The zucchini flowers were recommended by the staff and they were so flavourful! I thoroughly enjoyed the carbonara, it was one of the best I’ve ever tasted and I don’t think it will ever be beaten! I wish we could have gone for a second time but I will be back 100% the next time I visit Rome! We arrived 5-10 mins before opening so we’re very lucky to get a great table without a reservation. You won’t ever regret eating at Da Danilo!

One of the best restaurants we visited during our journey through Italy. It was crowded with locals and we weren't sure if the staff was quite happy to have us, since tourism in Rome can be annoying. Yet, they were welcoming and brought us excellent food for reasonable prices.

Best carbonara. This Restoraunt been selected one out of 4 others Restoraunt in Rome for best carbonara competition. It means a lot!!!We were brought to this place by our roman friends and their love to carbonara pasta. We had an amazing lunch. We had tried toasted ox tail , mozzarella with grilled artichoke, and lamp chops. Service was very good and also on top. I would highly recommend this place for truly carbonara pasta and good ,tasty meat.

Great food, greater selection of wines, and even greater atmosphere (we were downstairs). But the service was absolutely the best. Andrea advised us with everything, so we tried fantastic local wine, cheese and sausage antipasti and traditional pasta. What a great evening!

The setting first attracted us. In the midst of busy Roma, Il Falchetto appeared on the bend of a small, quiet street, seeming to promise a special experience. Which it truly delivered on both occasions. Dishes were prepared with obvious care - more on that later. For us, the hospitality is equally important to the food & ambiance, both of which were unequaled. Francesco, Alessandro & Valentino made our visits simply delightful. Professional, impeccably attired, knowledgeable & @ the same time warm, funny, friendly and .. sweet, in their way. When they presented the beautiful variety of funghi & listed the special plates the chef used them for, it was easy to opt for the grilled funghi appetizer, each variety with a unique flavor, & the risotto con funghi - an absolute delight for the palate. The ravioli & carbonara were exceptional, roasted artichoke hearts beautifully served & so tender. I had never had cacio e pepe & was SO glad that theirs, w/Madagascar black pepper was my 1st. So good I may never order it again- unless we return! Even tho’ I’ve been fortunate to enjoy some very good food over the years, I don’t pretend to be an expert or gourmand All I can say is I am confident you will not be disappointed if you try this restaurant. Buon appetito!!

I found myself in this lovely Italian restaurant after almost falling prey to a tourist trap nearby. This is an upscale restaurant yet not pretentious at all. The service and attention to detail were the best I have had in Europe over the last two weeks. I wanted a Roman dish, and went with the maître d's recommendation and I could not be more pleased. Very satisfied and I absolutely recommend. I dined alone, but I plan on returning with my family before we leave Rome for another meal. I am quite pleased. Also, for the quality of food, service. and atmosphere, I felt the prices were a bargain.

We stayed at The Singer Palace Hotel in Rome and asked the concierge for restaurant recommendations for dinner. One was Il Falchetto, which was a wonderful surprise! The woman said it had great pastas and seafood; I assumed it was a casual dining spot. We went without a reservation on a Saturday nite, around 930 pm. The outdoor dining area was cozy and inviting; the lights were romantic and diners were having fun, chatting and enjoying each others company! The location is on a quiet road off the main busy/loud street. The couple ahead of us in line were seated at the last available table outside and we were seated inside. The restaurant was full, except for a corner table (which a couple took shortly after we were seated). There were 2 large parties. The small room was full of life, but not too boisterous where we couldn't hear each other. Lots of Americans, which could be a good or bad thing. Lol. We are from the US as well. White cloth tables, I would describe the place as upscale but not pretentious at all. At first I thought maybe we had dressed too casual but I didnt feel treated any differently than the Chanel and YSL bagged women. It was our last day in Rome and I was looking forward to a memorable dinner. The wine BOOK was a little overwhelming, so we asked the sommelier for suggestions for a full-bodied red. He recommended an amazing wine from Sardinia (the best we had during the entire multi-city trip). We started with the artichoke (carciofi) and zucchini flower (fried courgette) appetizers - both were delicious. (Roman artichokes are a thing here, I learned! And the season is Feb-April) My husband ordered the taglioni w/ lobster, and I ordered a pasta that had olives, tomatoes, mozzarella/pesto. We shared the pan-fried shrimps w/ garlic & chili and spinach. My husband is very traditional and so we ordered the classic tiramisu (although the pistachio tiramisu caught my eye!) Everything was delicious. The service was EXCELLENT. It was my favorite restaurant experience in Rome. I will happily return again and try the many other dishes offered. On the way out, I noticed the fresh fish on display and the gentleman kindly named them all for me. They are open for lunch, which the waiter said isn't always as busy. We were lucky, but dinner reservations are probably the way to go. Thank you Il Falchetto for a lovely final meal in Italy. We loved every bite.

Our last night in Roma was topped off beautifully with the find of this little gem. Exquisite service as you may expect in Roma by mature men wearing white jackets & black ties. Food was exceptional, pasta, steak, tiramisu. I highly recommend & look forward to seeing you again on our next visit. Grazie Mille

Suggest you get a reservation to avoid disappointment. Excellent, friendly service with well prepared dishes. The owner's sons [the third generation] were on duty. This restaurant is a notch up and crowd is a mix of business, locals and tourists (of course). We tried a lot of dishes, and we'd come back for another visit if we time. Well worth a visit!

Our family really enjoyed our dinner at Il Falchetto. As we were a group of 8, they seated us at a large table in a private room inside. The food was very good. Artichokes, Pasta with porcini mushrooms, steak, meatballs, wine…… delicious! The service is professional. A couple of us were staying at the Singer Palace hotel, and this was one of the restaurants the hotel recommends. Highly recommend!

So good that we ate here twice in one day. We stumbled upon this Roman cuisine gem by accident. And just wow. Valentino was our server and he was incredibly nice and informative about our menu choices and made great recommendations. We had the lobster tagliatelle, ribeye, and fresh porcini mushrooms. We also ordered the meat and cheese platter to which he told us where each meat and cheese came from based on the regions in Italy. For dessert we opted for the pistachio tiramisu. Francesco made our beef tartare table side during dinner. Ask to sit outside, bc the ambiance is next level. I have no idea how they don’t have a Michelin yet! Prices are reasonable and portions are perfect. Chef’s kiss!

The restaurant is known for its excellent pasta dishes, such as the spaghetti all'Otello with a simple yet flavorful tomato sauce and chunks of real tomato, and homemade ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta. Guests have praised the kind and accommodating staff who provided exceptional service during their visit.
Another hidden gem within the bustling city of Rome. Incredible pasta, pizza, and extremely fresh seafood. Bruschetta was made exactly as it should be. Fresh ingredients, attentive and friendly staff, and charming atmosphere. This is a must go restaurant!!

I would have preferred to come for dinner, but since we had limited time during our Italy tour, we stopped by for lunch. The place was clean and the food was delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Rafael and a young colleague whose name I unfortunately missed were very helpful. We tried Rafael’s favorite seafood pasta and the roast lamb, and it was a delightful meal. Thank you very much. I hope to have the chance to visit again.

As a fan of the 1999 film “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” I recognized the name Otello as soon as I saw it, and later discovered it was Italian director Federico Fellini’s favorite restaurant, which is likely why it got name-dropped in the movie, given that Anthony Minghella was inspired by Fellini’s work. I ordered an antipasto with focaccia. Great food! I also noticed a lot of locals were dining here, which is always a good sign! :)

I am not sure what to make of this restaurant. I went there on consecutive nights and the experiences were vastly different. The first night, the service and the food were awesome. Everybody LOVED their dishes. Waitress was superb and one of the owners came by to check on us and we told her how much we enjoyed her establishment. That visit rated 5 stars. The next evening we returned but the owner was not there. We had to wait at least 10-15 minutes before a wait person came for our order. We waited for our food another 15 minutes and when it arrived the food did not taste the same as the evening before. Bread was stale and service was slow. The person in charge just did not look interested in doing his job and the experience was quite negative. As I stated above I am not sure what to make of this place. It comes highly recommended from our Roman friends, so I am giving them the benefit of the doubt by awarding them 4 stars, because the second night’s experience merited only 1-star. To the owner(s), I beg you to be there all the time because when you are your food is terrific, service outstanding and the atmosphere fun and energetic. You restaurant is not the same without you.

I loved this wonderful little restaurant that served traditional Roman dishes in a quaint atmosphere. I lived in Italy in the past and have returned many times during the last forty years and can honestly say Otello will be on my list of “must do “ whenever stopping in Rome. Service can be a bit slow, but one must remember you are in Rome, believe me the food is very much worth the wait. If you don’t thoroughly enjoy this place, do not worry. You will soon be back home and your Olive Garden awaits you.

Sensational restaurant! Was recommended by a local who lives in the area and so glad I was. We booked ahead as a Saturday and managed to get a table in the court yard! What a wonderful meal including great wine, great starters of cheese and meats, the seabass and the carbonara were fantastic and then desert! Service is great! Don’t listen to the other messages! Only down side you cannot tip on card which left us feeling bad as we had no cash! Amazing Rome place

This restaurant is a really good spot for a (family) meal in Rome. The service was top-notch, and the place had a friendly, welcoming feel. It was cool to see a mix of locals and tourists eating there – always a good sign. It seemed like the locals were really into the seafood, so that's probably a safe bet. What stood out was how creative the food was. They take classic dishes and give them a fresh twist, and everything we had was well-made and looked great. They also have an interesting wine list. Definitely try a Lazio red wine; it's local and tastes great with the food. Overall, it's a solid choice for a good meal with a nice atmosphere in Rome.

My goodness. My lord. We went to this place BACK TO BACK on our honeymoon due to how amazing the pasta is. Get anything with that DOC Bacon. It is so flavorful and delish. The pasta is just heavenly and you cannot get any better on this side of the city. Order the Caico De Pepe, order the Lasagna. Hell even order their deal that gives you a little bit of everything. It is too good.
Robby L — Google review
Food was ok. They kept trying to put bread on the table and charge us 6 euros for it. Told them to take it away twice, which they eventually did. Still it ended up on the bill. Maybe just an honest mistake. 🤔 Also, beware a carafe of tap water is 3 euros. They have a pretty good deal for 45 euros a person. One starter, one side, one pasta, one second and a dessert. Lets u sample a bunch of things for a fixed price. Like a formule menu, but for dinner too.

i got the carbonara and the lamb, both really good! the red wine of the house was also nice. the service was not great, though - it took a long time for us to be able to order anything, and the dessert we asked for (a simple ricotta with cherries dish) took around 40 minutes to arrive. the staff was kind and did not charge for it, though.

Visited based on the Michelin Guide mention, but the experience didn’t live up to the reputation. Service was polite, though one interaction left me puzzled — I arrived at 12:15 pm to an entirely empty restaurant and was asked if I had a booking before being seated. The waiter even checked with the owner if there was space for us. Only one other table arrived during the entire lunch service, which made the exchange feel even stranger. The food, unfortunately, was disappointing across the board. Dishes arrived barely warm, and while portion sizes were generous, the flavours lacked depth. The chicken thighs were overcooked and dry — surprisingly so for a cut that’s normally tender. The beef stew was similarly bland, with flavours that hadn’t penetrated the meat as you’d expect from a slow-cooked dish. The Amatriciana pasta was the best of the three, though still underwhelming. The guanciale seemed to have been boiled or braised rather than pan-fried — very tender, but missing the crisp texture and savoury balance that usually define the dish. We spent around €84 for lunch, which might have been reasonable had the food and overall experience matched the Michelin Guide mention. Sadly, it did not. This isn’t about expecting fine dining, but about basic warmth, seasoning, and execution — all of which fell short.

I found this place from Toronto and people were talking about it. It was a place I enjoyed stopping by. It was especially good to make olive oil with bread. Their bread is very good. It has a completely natural bread taste. We ate our pasta. Now I'm waiting for my calamari.

We went in with high hopes after reading so many good reviews. When we arrived, we were asked if we had a reservation, and the host seemed mildly annoyed to seat us. We still felt optimistic and placed our order. Unfortunately, when the food arrived, we were VERY disappointed. My carbonara was, to put it nicely, unpleasant at best. It tasted almost like processed cheese sauce. The lasagna was burned and so salty it was nearly inedible, and another pasta dish we ordered was equally poor in quality. To be fair, our server was kind and professional; we had no issue with the staff’s attitude. However, the food itself was simply not good. We barely ate any of it, took the rest to go, and ended up throwing it away shortly after leaving. Spending over €60 only to have to eat somewhere else afterward was incredibly disappointing.

Dal Toscano Restaurant is a venerable trattoria located near the Vatican, just off via Ottaviano. The restaurant offers rich pastas, signature steaks, and classic Tuscan dishes paired with Chianti wines. Guests can choose to dine at stylish indoor seating or outside along the sidewalk. While some visitors found the food delicious and enjoyed their dining experience, others noted that the waiters were not very friendly and did not recommend ordering dessert.
This was a local spot that was the perfect escape from the tourist areas. Unlike most of our meals, the waiter didn’t speak great English - which further confirms the above. We got fried zucchini, two pastas, and the veal. All was sublime. They even called us a cab back to our hotel. Our res was at 8 but the restaurant got to full capacity around 10. We stayed until 11…

The place is a spot for locals and yes that’s exactly it. Just locals. We are an Asian family that went there to dine for our first night in Rome. We were last to be served even tho we were the first to order, the waiter also missed out our order of wine while opening bottles for others. Then when the food came the fillet was just minced beef that barely had a sear on each side of u could even call it that and totally raw in the middle. The Florentine steak had good texture but no flavour. Overall it was a terrible experience. Service was horrible as we were neglected and the totally not worth the 180 euros we paid for 1 veal, 1 florentine steak, 1 beef fillet, 1 lamp which were just ribs with nibbles of meat attached to the bone. Would not recommend if you are a tourist.

4 for the food, 1 for the service. We sat 10 minutes and no one brought us the menu. We tried to get the waiter’s attention but he walked by like no one is there. It was nice that later he offered to charge our phones-the reason I credit an extra score. What made us really upset was not the slow service but the fact that he tried to rip us off when paying the bill. I was pretty sure that this was not and accident, not because he charged us for the salad that was not served, but that he took an empty bottle from another table and tried to charge us for that bottle of water-which we did not drink. Basically ruined my day. This is not the first time that we being ripped off as foreign tourist. Just want to remind everyone one (especially tourists) out there: be prepared for whatever we experienced cus that might happen to you as well.

SantoPalato is a humble restaurant in Rome that offers local staples such as pasta, meat plates, and desserts. It is known for its innovative take on traditional Roman classics, blending the soul of a traditional trattoria with a touch of hipster flair. Chef Sara Cicolini leads the kitchen, showcasing Rome's storied quinto quarto cuisine with an offal-heavy menu alongside well-executed favorites like carbonara and amatriciana.
Best to make a reservation, even weekday lunch sittings are fully booked, but there is a social table with 8 seats for walk in diners. We arrived at 12:30 when it opened and got seats but many people were turned away. Food is elegantly prepared with new and traditional tastes. The pork neck was perfectly cooked and tender with a tasty crust. Simply delicious. Although a fan favorite, I found the oxtail meatball to be too heavy and salty. The accompanying sauce was thick and nutty, not a good match for such a dense dish. I wish they served it with a tangy sauce or some crunchy or fresh element. Service was brisk and attentive. Really nice staff. This is an excellent place to dine if you want to get away from the tourist traps in Rome, it’s not far from the Coleseum but requires an Uber ride.

A fresh and modern take on local cuisine, with a focus on simple but very high quality ingredients. Vegetable dishes were a highlight of the evening. Do not miss the Melanzana or Polpetta Cod alla Vaccinara. The Carbonara was rich and creamy with nicely crisp guanciale, though the pasta a little al dente for most people. For dessert the Tiramisu is nice but the Maritozzo wins. Service is fine, not overly friendly but nothing to complain about. Must book far in advance. Not necessarily mind blowing but worth trying once if you can get a table.

I came here twice during my Rome stay and tried different plates. The quality is high and food is delicious overall. Unfortunately, the meat I got was quite chewy - you’d expect a bit better, I basically had to swallow the entire pieces as they just wouldn’t break up. All the other dishes were highly satisfying and reasonably priced. In particular, the salad with Barattiere cucumber and the carbonara were phenomenal.

Renato e Luisa is a charming trattoria tucked away in a cobblestone street, offering classic Roman cuisine with a modern twist. It's a local gem and a favorite among Italians, known for its great food, friendly service, and excellent wine selection. The restaurant's cozy atmosphere and traditional feel make it an authentic Roman dining experience.
I loved the food here!! I ordered the truffle mushroom pasta which was delectable, the custard bowl with fruit which was so creamy. I really enjoyed my meal! The restaurant was cozy and there appeared to be a lot of locals dining here which is also a good sign. Reservations are a must. They were full on a Thursday evening when they opened! I found the service to be good and quick.

We loved this place! It was not in a super touristy location, and the restaurant felt very family owned. Service was fantastic! We had the Carbonara and Amatriciana and both were delicious. It was exactly what we were looking for, traditional Roman dishes. We would definitely return there!

Fine italian dining at its best. We chose this place for our last dinner in Rome. We were surprised by the excellent quality of the dishes. Also service the service was great. Highly recommend for any lovers of great food.

A truly excellent meal! We arrived within one hour of closing and the staff were gracious and did not rush us through our meal. We had a primo course of pasta with cherry tomatoes that was beautifully prepared…clearly housemade pasta with lovely sauce and cheese that complemented the dish. For secondo we chose a finely sliced steak with balsamic reduction …accompanied with greens and a bechamel sauce…a beautifully composed and executed dish. For dessert we chose the chocolate cake with orange compote and creme… again, beautifully composed and executed. A satisfying meal in all respects. If we return to Rome, we will return to Renato e Luisa!

Fantastic food. I only wish I had been hungrier! Everything was top notch from the thin lemon slice with sugar and oil they brought to the table, to the zucchini flowers, and the wonderful pasta. Wish I would have gone back for another meal!

Great spot - didn't realize our first meal in Rome would be one of the best of the trip! Not touristy. We especially liked the carpaccio.
Zachary T — Google review
Food was solid, but the service was harried and haphazard, due to seemingly new servers, and a management that seems to be rigid and focused more on the hierarchy than serving the customer. Among other issues was making the overwhelmed, but very friendly, wait staff riff through 6 complicated daily specials at each table, many who are listening in their second language...(Imagine that!) Maybe buy a printer? I tried ordering a specific bottle of wine 3 times and was told I had to order from my waiter, who was busy at multiple tables with the daily specials routine...With this time pressure they're STILL trying to turn tables... A real "casino totale"... This is no romantic trattoria, it's a money squeezing operation... But the food is good (not great), so somewhat redeemed...

We attempted to eat at this restaurant on Thursday evening. When we arrived I was asked if we had a reservation, I stated we did not and I was told there was no room in an unwelcome manner. We left for a nearby restaurant instead, and subsequently we made a reservation for Saturday night at 21:30. We arrived on time and stood unacknowledged for over twenty minutes. The party of three women in front of us, who did not have a reservation, received a warm greeting and multiple interactions while the staff prepared an *8-top* table for them... while we continued to stand completely unacknowledged. The same server who was rude on Thursday literally never acknowledged our existence, instead the woman who hastily cleared our 2-top after the 8 top was finally seated was the one who came up and invited us to our table. We were in the process of being seated as the owner (I presume) of the restaurant said to the rude server "he looks angry." I turned back and said "Yes, I'm angry." Then the owner (again presumably) proceeded to quickly walk over to the table and berate my wife - who was already in the process of sitting at the table, was not privy to the "he looks angry" interaction, and was shocked when he aggressively said "do you want this table or not?" At that point we'd been treated with such disregard and disdain that she grabbed her belongings, said " actually no," and we left. And went back to the same restaurant we went to on Thursday, where the other restaurant once again promptly greeted us with incredible kindness and hospitality. That restaurant is nearby, and everyone who considers going to this restaurant should just go there instead. We had a slight wait, as we didn't have reservation, but we were acknowledged and respected and it was absolutely worth the wait. I've lived in Rome and this is the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant in Rome.

Agustarello A Testaccio is a classic restaurant that has been serving locals since 1957. It's renowned for its cacio e pepe, carbonara, and rigatoni alla pajata, a dish made with the stomach lining of an unweaned calf. Located in Testaccio, a former slaughterhouse district turned trendy neighborhood, this eatery offers traditional Roman cuisine in a no-frills setting.
Friendly people and very nice food. It also has a nice outside area off the street. Wish I discovered it earlier and had an opportunity to go again. The waitress was also very accompanying in letting me practice my Italian language ‘skills’.

This place had two occupied tables at eight, and every table occupied at quarter past eight. We felt like we had stumbled onto a neighborhood secret. The prices seem very reasonable- and the pasta was delicious. We had the amatriciana and the oxtail. I think the oxtail could have had a wee bit more meat on the plate it tasted really good. The real highlight was the side of chicory which was definitely bitter but somehow still so moreish. The service is friendly but a bit slow- it took ages for our stir fried chicory to arrive after we had demolished our pasta. Would definitely go back. Reservations are recommended.

Visited this restaurant recently — the pasta was absolutely delicious! You can really tell it was cooked with care. The sauce was rich, and the portion was filling — I was very happy with it. Also, I calculated the calories using the service shown in the photo I attached — it turned out to be super convenient and quick! I totally recommend trying it for calorie tracking — it makes it really easy to keep an eye on your diet.

This place was recommended by the taxi driver that drove us to our hotel nearby. We landed in Rome at 7am and walked around the neighborhood for a couple hours since our hotel room wasn’t ready. Despite our best effort to kill time, we still found ourselves standing in front of the restaurant 30 minutes before their opening time. The lady who was setting up the tables was kind enough to let us sit down inside. She brought us a bottle of water and we waited until the kitchen opened at 12:30. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the dish of the day (chicken cooked with red peppers). Even the house pour red wine was good. We will probably come back again before we leave Rome.

Good very local Roman spot for classic dishes, including plenty of offal. We tried the sausages with bacon rinds and beans which was very flavoursome. Carbonara which was okay, and mixed offal with fried onions, also flavoursome and yummy. Service was friendly and excellent. Dinner for two with 1 litre of wine and coffees was 55 euros.

Lovely, wonderful and authentic! We went to Augustarello two nights ago due to the good reviews - and it turned out to be one of the most amazing nights! We were immediately taken care of by two kind and honest people from the staff. The service felt authentic, committed and engaged - but in a real and honest way. The woman and the man that served us helped us with our needs and with great recommendations, even with practicing our Italian! The whole experience felt alike - authentic! Seeing the single cook in the kitchen making the most lovely food, picking up ingredients from a table placed in the serving hall just by the costumers, the local Italians gathering to eat, the luxury-looking food, the well-composed design and woody interior: created at the same a high but an intimate, familiar climate. We ordered a simple dinner for two with the house’s wine and the beautiful fruit cake to finish up - and it was without doubt enough to give us an experience we will never forget. I will definitely return as soon as I land my feet on Rome again! Grazie mille!

Ai Vascellari is a traditional Roman eatery located in the charming neighborhood of Trastevere. It offers a relaxed atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely lunch or dinner. This establishment serves authentic Roman dishes including popular favorites like crispy fried artichokes and classic amatriciana pasta. The menu showcases typical Roman cuisine prepared with skill, featuring delicious pastas, succulent meats, and flavorful vegetables.
I loved everything we ordered! Tried the fried artichoke, two pastas, and a tiramisu. This was the first restaurant we ate at and where we went to randomly looking for some place to eat after a long flight, and it was such a good start to our trip! Super loved the pasta it was so filling, it's definitely one of the best I've had.

Went in for lunch because it wasn't busy. I had spaghetti with bacon and my mam had the fried artichoke and caprese. food was good and they offered us a free side of fried zucchini with fish in it, which isn't really our taste but its the thought what matters. total was €35 including drinks.
Lynx O — Google review
Great location and atmosphere but I have to say that the food was below average. We had two appetizers which were fine, pretty basic. I had the lamb which was pretty blend, my girlfriend had the gnocchi which was not good and there was no basil like the menu said.
Hakon G — Google review
We ate at this place because the other restaurants in the area had no free tables. In general I would say that the food is moderate in quality. I do however think the service was very good. We had starters of cod croquettes and stuffed courgette flowers both seemed to get their seasoning a bit wrong and the courgette flowers had a very thick batter that was more suited to fish and chips than something delicate such as a vegetable. Our mains were cacio e pepe and Amatriciana ravioli, these were lacking in finesse and needed less salt. Overall I found the experience underwhelming and wouldn't return. The wine was excellently priced at 10 euros for the house wine!!
Joel W — Google review
It took 1 hour for the main course of our meal to be served for a party of 2 after finishing our Antipasto’s, and after finally receiving our main course and eating, we asked for the bill multiple times, and had to wait 45 minutes before being able to pay. All in all, we spent about 2 hours just waiting. Food was below average and quite bland, and the ragu sauce tasted like it was served from a can. There was also a lack of drink selection, and only around 7 wines were served for quite a large price. Stay away at all costs, there are much better options for dining close by.

Disappointing! The place is in such a great area of Trastevere, so we thought it was going to be awesome and fun! We were so wrong, the waiter was rude and rushing us to order, we asked about the wines available he refused to explain. The food was boring, the wine was boring I asked for another wine, still boring, the bathroom was horribly dirty. I really don’t recommend it!
Ana F — Google review
This is a small restaurant near Trastevere which means that there are people passing by from this location but it is not crowded so it is quite nice for enjoying you dinner/ lunch. We envied some locals being there who drunk an orange refreshment and we ordered the same. The drink was spritz and you have to try one for sure. What we ate were excellent. Carbonara was amazing and also the side dishes very delicious (fried pumkin flowers stuffed with cheese and eggplant with parmiziano). The dish with the seabass with roasted potatoes in one layer all together was a pleasant surprise. Now, they lose 1 star in the rating due to the fact that the service was awful specially when the place was full (around 9:30). Guys, honestly now. From all the waiters only one could understand some english. For communication with the others we tried the body language. We also ordered a salad which never came. In addition desserts were a disaster, specially tiramisu. We left the place overall satisfied though and it is a pitty to have so good food combined with inadequate service.

We walked pass this restaurant when we arrived Rome this morning, got immediately attracted to the cute and special decorations and decided to come here for our dinner. Sadly, our food was fine but our waiter failed to listen again-and-again and thought he was a stand up comedian, WHICH HE WAS NOT. We ordered water with BUBBLES.... my partner ever said it in Italian.... he brought flat waters to b I thnof us. My noodles were good but I wanted to take half home with me.... you guessed it. I was very clear "I'll take this with me, to go home" He tossed it out. Very disappointing. 2 noodle meals and 2 waters. 45 euros. No thank you. Charming local restaurant. Arrived at 7:30 and were the first people there. Warmly greeted by the gentleman at the front counter. Came with a friend visiting Rome who was interested in seafood. The house red wine was good. The staff were welcoming and willing to work with our limited Italian. We tried some of the artichoke/seafood fried "fritters", they were OK, but they didn't really taste much like artichoke. Then had the squid/broccolini spaghetti. It was OK, but nothing exciting. Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes?

We visited La Toricella based on a recommendation from the owner of the AirBnB, where we are staying. We were told to reserve our table because this restaurant is very busy. When we reached, the staff did not have a record of our booking. However, they kindly provided us with a table. The restaurant is very rustic and the decor on the inside projects this very well. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We particularly enjoyed the salt fish with potato fritters and the courgette flower with burrata and anchovies. For the main course we had the tonnarelli pasta with courgette and prawns and the linguine with lobster. All dishes were excellent and we only have compliments to share. Definitely a place you should for lunch or dinner if you are in Testaccio!

Update. As you can see from previous reviews, this restaurant is getting worse and worse. My friends and I decided that we will never go back to this restaurant. Really bad service. We had to wait 40 minutes to order even though we had booked in advance. We requested to change the table as they had reserved for us a table that was in the middle of the street behind the corner, it was facing a wall and it was wobbly. Fried squids were borderline disgusting as they fried them without cleaning them; I had to eat their bowels and ink was dripping everywhere. You can see from the pictures that squids used to look (and taste!) much better. They probably skipped the cleaning because they were in a rush. Portions of spigola were ridicolously small, the wine was cheap, and the bill was ridicolously high. You can get better seafood on the beach for half price. I do not know if they changed the chef or something, but I strongly discourage people from wasting their money in this presumptuous restaurant. I got back to this restaurant, but the winter menu was a bit disappointing. I got fried and marinated moscardini, but they were too oily and salty (vote 5). The homemade olive all'ascolana were just OK, nothing that I would order again (vote 6). The bruschetta with beans was tasteless; basically, it was a slice of bread with steamed beans on top. The only flavour I could taste was the olive oil's one, too heavy and acid (vote 3.5). I also had pasta with courgette and shrimps that was quite disappointing too. It was floating in oil and there were just a few frozen shrimps; honestly, I can make it much better by myself (vote 4). Finally, I ordered a homemade tiramisù that was more or less like Tesco's tiramisù, awful (vote 3). The cherry on top of the cake was the bill; 40€ each for some starters and only one main. The owner did not allow us to split the bill saying that it was against the law, which I believe is true in such an archaic country. My vote for this experience is 1, but I cannot forget that I had a great dinner last summer (vote 5); the mean [(5+1)/2] is 3. I do not know if I will give another chance to this restaurant. Below you can find my previous review. l am usually quite strict on ratings but this restaurant is amazing. It is probably the best restaurant I have ever been in Rome. Delicious fried squids, the best ever; incredibly light and crispy, never oily (vote 10). Marinated and fried moscardini. Nice but with a peculiar garlicky after taste that someone might dislike (vote 7). Delightful sea bass on a bed of roasted potatoes; it literally melts in your mouth (vote 9). Mixed grilled fish platter. You can see and taste that fish is super fresh; the shrimps were so nice that we would even eat the skin (vote 9). Good range of home made desserts such as lemon sorbet (vote 7) and tiramisù (vote 9). On top of this scrumptious food we also received a great service. I have never met a waiter who was so kind, attentive and efficient in my life. You can see that this is a real old school restaurant, something that is unfortunately disappearing in Rome. Are you worried about the bill now? Believe it or not we spent less than 50€ each even though we ordered 2 jugs of wine and 4 expresso. P. S. Don't get deceived by the pictures; my phone has a cheap camera that makes look everything worse.

The worst treatment EVER!!! I had called to make a reservation at 6.45 p.m for my daughter because I speak Italian and she doesn't. She was going with a friend and Augusto confirmed with me. When she showed up with her friend, they said they didn't have a reservation and turned them away. It is hard not to think it is because they were the only two non white people and didn't speak Italian. We have gone in the past because their food is delicious but what a bunch of terrible people, really.

The place was cosy and great decorated. I liked the concept of everything with mostly fish. The staff was very polite and kind with us and also informed us about the dish with the anchovies being too small for three people. We ordered it regardless and the taste was amazing. We would really like a bigger portion for that price that's why I'm giving four stars, because it was barely for one. I recommend it though, you should definitely try these dishes!

This was the best experience in Rome. A great concept of recovering traditional or forgotten ancient recipes from all over Italy. Most uncommon food, that probably you won’t find anywhere else in Rome. Amazing kind staff, super professional and keen to explain all details from the history or elaboration of each plate. Even though its far from the center, if you are interested in food this is a must in Rome, its an entertaining dinner with history behind, from family recipes to forgotten recipes found in books by the chef, great experience.

This place is a classic Osteria, the type of restaurant/trattoria that is neither of those places, but serves good and decent food at reasonable prices. This Isteria does exactly that! The service is very good, the clientele is a bit rough ( but this is exactly the clientele that a place like this was created for , and the low prices reflect that as well.) The food is never bad, some dishes are extremely good( like the cheesecake with ricotta and visciole, incredible ending dessert! ) and some are just very well made ( saltimbocca alla romana was good and the cacio and pepe was ok; the porchetta as a starter was great! The dessert described above was a cut above all else . Prices are modest, so all in all a nice experience

We asked for recommendations because we had no idea where to start. The staff were so kind and thorough in explaining the fascinating process and history of the cuisine. The waitress provided us with curious anecdotes about some of the dishes and their relation to ancient tradition and mythology. As per recommendation. we had pasta fagioli with a wonderful house sourdough bread and a delectable preparation of swordfish we had never had before. Sliced, seasoned, and pan fried with herbs and a local cheese. For desert, we had a moist cake made with ricotta, almonds and lemon. The texture and flavors were delicate and perfect to end a wonderful meal. The restaurant is in a humble neighborhood far from most tourists. It was a worthwhile experience. At the end, the waitress gave us a few more recommendations for our stay and told us about one of the few Rubens painting that can be found in Rome! I highly recommend taking a visit here, mostly for the experience and the warmth of the people here.

Classic roman restaurant with typical local recipes. The quality of ingredients is high, and everything is tasty. Prices are a bit above the average prices for the same recipes in other well-known restaurants. Service is friendly and welcoming. Even if the location is thought according to an easy mood taverna.. some things like chairs and table could be at least renovated (see picture).

We experienced the same as Jason the other reviewer. We called and called and no one answered so we walked over and there were a number of empty tables. Then we asked for a table for 2. There were a number of tables opened. The first thing they said was do you have a reservation. We responded in Italian we have been calling your number and no one answers. Then the man said in Italian oh no we are full. I am in agreement. This restaurant was recommended by a friend and we live in walking distance I would not waste my time. Amazing food firstly. We had some of the tastiest simple classics I’ve had in the many times I’ve visited Rome. The restaurant is cozy and elevated, the environment is worth the visit and the service was wonderful.

The worst booking service I have saw. Sorry to write this bed review, but hope the food cover that, because the booking service without respect to the clients.
