I met Lars at a summertime street fair and admired the photography in his booth. I couldn't quit thinking about it, which I always consider a "sign" so I followed up and ordered. Lars delivered and personally installed the pieces in my Seattle home and from that point forward I was not only happy with it - I became obsessed with it. I found myself looking for reasons to use that room with his artwork on the walls. Fast forward, I have just recently acquired my fourth large piece of art from Lars. That in itself should be a testament to my feelings about his work, but I will share with you a few things that I find truly unique and valuable about his artwork and why I love surrounding myself in it within my own home:
My situation was that half my home is built into a slope, so those uphill rooms in the basement (with tiny/weird windows) feel like dungeons compared to the airy views upstairs. So to elevate the experience in those downstairs spaces, I decided to decorate the walls with photography that would offer the ultimate "window view" in that previously dreary guest room. The goal was to forget about how dark the room was because there would always be something glorious to look at to feel inspired and/or cozy. The plan has worked out brilliantly. My guests are wowed, and tell our mutual friends about their stay in "that guest room with astonishing views."
Lars is truly a visual artist. He is not just taking a photograph of an iconic view, rather he is masterfully capturing a well-crafted portion of his panorama with astonishing detail that not only reminds you of the outdoors - It *takes you there.* You FEEL it, much like Ansel Adams' work did nearly a hundred years ago - but even better with ravishing color and texture no one could even imagine back then. While viewing Lars' colorful pieces in my home (now for the 1000th time,) I still pause to appreciate a new detail that I hadn't noticed before. How many "pictures" can do that?
If you're "just looking" and checking reviews here, let me share that although I have used his web site plenty of times to shop Lars' images, it cannot show you the level of detail of the actual pieces; (so if you can possibly travel to his gallery, I highly suggest that you make an appointment and do so - as then you don't have to share his attention with others at the shows he vends at). For example, visualize yourself on a mountain hike and being able to see variations in the color of the sky a half mile ahead, and/or moss hanging from tree limbs a hundred yards in front of you; or the density of the mist. That's the type of detail you not only see in Lars' work, but are drawn to appreciate. For me, it's the ultimate visual of the olfactory cliché: "Stop and Smell the roses": Amazed by the beauty of Nature, and inspired by astonishing levels of texture, color and detail - It's become creative fuel for me, in the most calming and organic way.
As far as doing business with him: Lars is a responsible entrepreneur, ethical, family man and artist. 100% of the time, he does what he says he's going to do, and on schedule. His communication with updates on ordered pieces is perfect. He is a Type-A personality and consequently monitors the development of each and every art piece from start to finish so others involved in the process abide by the level of professionalism that he demands for himself. He's a rare find in today's world, and an artist whose work I believe will continue to be revered well beyond our lifetimes.
Give yourself a gift that will not just decorate but will inspire and transcend you, your family and friends every time you even just glance at it.
