Sadly the starters were served up frozen which is a huge worry for such a large chain, it was blamed on the chef making an error, I could understand this in a busy restaurant when the pressure is on but with just three other tables in progress it was pretty shocking to be honest. Obviously we complained, I then spotted the barman sitting with the manager looking over and smirking, this was the final straw and we decided not to risk a main course with such terrible service that could be borderline dangerous in the eyes of trading standards and environmental health teams. Eventually the “manager” agreed to waive the cost of drinks and we left. Given the state of the market for restaurants and especially this chain in Clacton I really fear for their future. Obviously we will be avoiding in the future, which is a shame as we are locals and probably key to their long term survival in such a seasonal location. From the outside, my wife and I assumed it was a takeaway, but on closer inspection it is a reasonably spacious restaurant with seating available. We had such a good time and each ‘lane’ was closed off enough to feel private and enjoyable. I can say this place is average. One thing I can say is is of you like sag pannier do not order it from this place its the worst ive ever had to the point I let the family try and we all agreed to bin it. Essentially, it boils down to the fact that we ordered three different dishes and there was an issue with two of them. The other problem was that they didnt have any ham for the ham and eggs we ordered, but did not tell us so, instead they just made us wait for a member of staff to run across the street and buy some ham from a food store. We literally saw the said member of staff walk through the Café Bistro with the pack of ham and 3 minutes later we were served the dish after having waited for around 15 minutes for it! Drinks was the situation wasn't any better. We wanted milkshakes as per the drinks menu, turns out the Café Bistro was out of milk, so we had to have orange juice and can of fizzy drink instead. For a food place, they were ridiculously short on food. I must add here that we visited in the middle of August, supposedly the height of the season when you'd expect for them to be at their best. But alas! Also, beware that there is a baby changing mat, but no baby changing table, so you're expected to lay your baby literally down on the floor between the toilet cubicles to change their nappy. The Café Bistro is also quite small, so do note this if you intend on going to sit inside and want to bring your stroller in (though we did manage, that was because the place was next to empty at lunchtime on Thursday). On the plus side, the server was very friendly. However that is not enough to salvage our experience and, sadly, I cannot with a good conscience recommend Nikki's Café Bistro to others.

To be a hidden gem at the end of the pier. It's old school, food was fine and came out quickly. But honestly the special burger and the sea food platter were very overpriced for what they were. Nearly £17 (to include chips) - one small fish goujons, 4 pieces of scampi and maybe four battered prawns. With a small bowl of coleslaw and some iceberg and a couple slices each of tomato and cucumber. Burger special was two thin frozen burgers in a stale bap. Ice creams were cash only so they missed out on that sale from us as we had no cash. With a few small changes it could be the bustling end of pier place it deserves to be. A shame because we really wanted to rave about it! Still think it would be a nice place to go for a plate of chips and a pot of tea. It doesn’t have a large menu, but enough to satisfy 4 adults and 3 kids out for a Sunday promenade. We were greeted at the door and taken to our table; the chairs were pulled out for us and we were provided with the menu. The menu clearly identified items with Dairy, Gluten, (+1other) which was helpful. Everything was clean and fresh, the table was even cleaned between starter and mains. You may even get up to three different people handling your sandwich, and each does not change their gloves. I have seen the staff use the wrong coloured utensils for the wrong food group. Their menu also states a free bottle of coke for orders over £30 but we have never received this since the new owners have taken over. So we will now be going elsewhere. A shame as the original owners were lovely and would be devistated that their reputation was going downhill.

I only had a small order of two pancake rolls, prawn balls, chowmein and pork ribs total cost £20.00. The building is not very inspiring and a bit dates but the food was nice and fresh cooked as you would expect. One nice difference was that the batter was not greasy and the chowmein vegetables still had some crunch, looking at the menu the ribs seem expensive but they are massive and melt in your mouth. Service was very good with Cassie & Julie. The food has a big variety to choose from. The starter, main course and dessert were exceptional. They were all presented amazingly and tasted beautifully. My husband ordered the slow cooked beef shin, i ordered the salmon, on their arrival, both were beautifully presented & looked delicious, however when i cut into my salmon i could see it was undercooked, we called the waitress over, she apologised, took it to the kitchen and said they would prepare a fresh one ( i would've been ok if they microwaved it for a couple of minutes), so my husband had his meal, while i waited another 10 minutes for a fresh meal, i told him to eat his, as it would get cold, we just joked about it. But when the new salmon came out, that too was undercooked, this time they did microwave it. This could all have been avoided if the chef had probed the salmon to make sure the core temperature was hot enough, to be fair they did comp the salmon meal. I would eat here again because the food was a very good standard, just use your probe, chef !!

Chicken skewers the chicken just tasted processed. Giant ice cream dessert didn't look anything like the photos and was basically a bowl of chocolate ice cream.
