What a huge disappointment. Our room was cold with a heating/air conditioner which did not work. There was a broken cabinet which meant its door could not be closed. No phone to contact reception. The hotel felt & looked old, but in a good way. Very historic & grand. Our room was amazing with original beams & the amazing low beam in the bathroom, which we had to duck under each time. Even before we arrived the telephone contact was first rate - relaxed and friendly, which carried through to the first greeting as we walked through the door on a very busy day in the pub. The Buttery cancelled us last minute as they were suddenly closing down (!?) Luckily we managed to secure a room at The Woodstock Arms in time. And we are so glad!! The location is perfect for visiting Blenheim Palace and Woodstock itself is so gorgeous to visit. But The Woodstock Arms was the best unexpected surprise of all. Our room was lovely and had everything needed. The shower was good and powerful, tea and coffee making facilities and comfy bed. I had such a good nights sleep! What started as a last minute panic when The Buttery cancelled our booking and nearly ruined our plans was a blessing in disguise as we would never have experienced The Woodstock Arms otherwise. Update from July 2025: We were walking back through Woodstock when the sky started to look a bit threatening, so we decided to stop in for a quick drink. We ended up really glad we did. The pub had a lovely, traditional atmosphere and we were welcomed straight away with genuinely friendly service that made us feel very at home. We hadn’t planned to eat, but we noticed the fish and chips on the board, complete with mushy peas and a few optional extras. It was just too tempting to pass up. The food was excellent. For starters great located in the centre of Woodstock, short walk to the Palace. Limited free Parking is available onsite for guests.
