Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, located in Charleston Harbor, is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts. The museum features the USS YORKTOWN, a World War II aircraft carrier, along with a destroyer and submarine that visitors can explore year-round. Established by the Patriots Point Development Authority in the 1970s, this museum offers an immersive experience where visitors can learn about America's naval history, traditions, and core values.
It was a great museum. Especially captain exclusive room was interesting. I bought captain’s Guided tour, I highly recommend visitor to buy it. Because you can look around something special spots for whom bought the Captain’s tour. Flight deck area was spectacular. There was a short documentary movie you can watch in theatre spot.
Suheyl N — Google review
We visited Patriots Place on a Sunday, which happened to be Father's Day! I was expecting large crowds, but it's so big with so much to see that it didn't feel crowded at all. The ship is amazing. There were lots of captain staircases involved. They do have an elevator if you can not do them. However, it is small. In the Medal of Honor exhibit, there were a lot of interactive things for kids, like seeing how cold their metal cups would get overnight, seeing if you could do pull-ups and how heavy a rucksack felt. Off the boat, we saw two dolphins playing in the water, which enhanced the trip. My favorite part was surely the Vietnam War experience. Make sure you follow the wooden boardwalk and go into all the trailers to watch the videos (even kids will like them, i promise). I loved the hologram soldiers and how the trailer vibrated during the realistic war scenes. Staff were all helpful and friendly. They have plenty of bathrooms available on the main floor of the ship and some outside the gift shop. I was not prepared for the parking to be prepared, which I was a little disappointed by, but still a great trip nonetheless.
Kristin — Google review
I had a great time exploring the U.S.S. Yorktown! I decided to add the Captain’s Tour to my tour experience and it was well worth it. My tour guide, Dan Bommarito, did a fantastic job making the tour entertaining, enlightening and all around more enjoyable for everyone in the group. As a marine, it was great to hear about the history of the ship from the perspective of a fellow Devil Dog. I look forward to taking my kids next time I go!
Josh S — Google review
We visited both the Yorktown and the fort Sumter exhibits during our 1-day visit. It is reasonable to visit both in the same day if you get an early start, like by 10am. The ferry took us to Ft Sumpter and we stayed just about an hour there. At the fort there was no food drink or bathrooms, but the ferry had those on board. It was well worth the trip. After returning, we took in the Yorktown. It was well worth worth the 3 hours that we spent on board. We did not do a guided tour but we were able to see all the placards and got a good sense of the ship. Just be aware that there are a lot of steps/ ladders involved, but I think if you're reasonably able to negotiate them you would have a good time.
Raymond B — Google review
A Great Family Outing! This is a fantastic place to visit with the family. Be prepared for plenty of walking and several steps throughout the ship — but that's all part of the experience. One highlight was the impressive Vietnam War dedication area, which was both educational and engaging for the kids. A meaningful and memorable visit for all ages!
Hannah H — Google review
This place was amazing! We took the ferry to Fort Sumtner and toured both the ships. My kids loved seeing the planes and helicopters on the air craft carrier. We spent about 4 hours total here and even saw some dolphins hanging out right next to the ships
Katherine B — Google review
Patriots Point is a must-visit for anyone interested in American naval history. Anchored by the massive USS Yorktown (CV-10), the museum offers an immersive experience that’s both educational and deeply moving. Exploring the aircraft carrier—from its bridge to its hangars and flight deck—feels like stepping into living history. The collection of vintage aircraft, war rooms, and simulators is outstanding. Highlights include the USS Laffey, known as “The Ship That Would Not Die,” and the USS Clamagore submarine, each offering a unique glimpse into wartime life at sea. The exhibits are well-preserved, the setting dramatic, and the overall atmosphere powerful. Whether you’re a history buff or casual visitor, Patriots Point is an unforgettable experience that honors the service and sacrifice of America’s naval heroes.
Jimmy S — Google review
We had a blast visiting the aircraft carrier. We had the Capitan's Tour with Paul. He was very knowledgeable and funny, showing us small things that would have been missed if we were on our own. Lots, let me say that again lots of walking, the ship is huge. The up and down stairs would be hard for someone with mobility issues but other wise definitely do this tour. Lots to take pictures of. The gift shop is awesome with really reasonable prices, I was surprised actually.

Nature & Parks
The South Carolina Aquarium is a sprawling marine attraction featuring interactive displays and a diverse array of native and exotic sea creatures. Visitors can explore the state's varied ecosystems, from salt marshes to open ocean habitats, through engaging exhibits such as a two-story aquarium tank and touch tanks. The aquarium also offers educational tours and programs against the backdrop of stunning views of Charleston harbor and the Ravenel Bridge.
Amazing aquarium. Beautiful tanks, informative talks, and tons of interactive exhibits. Staff were friendly and engaged very easily with children. Size and layout of aquarium made it easy to navigate. Clean restrooms and there is a stall designating a manual flush toilet. Extremely helpful if you have a child terrified of an automatic flush. There is also a nursing room and quiet corner area provided if needed. Great afternoon and glad our family decided to visit.
Megan D — Google review
We had a great time! So many things to look at and learn about. We loved how we could see the Sea turtles they are rehabilitating. My son loved all the touch tank experiences.
Ashley W — Google review
Went to this aquarium for the first time on a Tuesday morning around 10am, not very busy. Parking in the garage was easy and cheap. The design and layout of the building was great. Animals all look well taken care of. My favorite was the turtle health area where we had fun with the interactive displays with xrays etc to look at. Kid areas looked fun, though my kids are too old for that sort of thing. Bathrooms were clean. Staff was friendly. The outdoor areas of the aquarium were very nice. I like the sea turtles, otters and bald eagle the best. We also got to see an opossum running in a giant hamster wheel, which was fun to watch! We purchased a stuffed otter in the gift shop, its love one of the sweatshirts but could not justify paying $75 for it. I thought it should have been cheaper then that. It took me and my teens about 1 hour to go through the whole aquarium. Touch tanks were nice and large. I loved the hand wash stations (I included a picture of them), they were very unique, I've never seen them before and was impressed! Worth a visit especially if you have younger kids.
Kristin — Google review
The South Carolina Aquarium is small but mighty! They have a beautiful selection of fish and the staff is so kind and knowledgeable. Their conservation efforts are so important, and supporting them is worth it. This is an awesome place for adults and littles alike! It’s clean, accessible, and a great place to learn about our finned friends. I hope Milkweed (the beautiful turtle pictured) feels better and gets to go home soon!
Allison S — Google review
Smaller than other aquariums we have visited. The turtle rescue experience, the stingray tank, and touch tank were the highlights. They also had some very cool kid friendly interactive STEM kid experiences.
Patti Y — Google review
This place is incredible! It’s a very big and very clean facility! The big tank was the highlight of our trip but everything else was still fascinating! Even the view of the sea from the outside was breathtaking! We will definitely be returning!
Brenda V — Google review
Nice aquarium! Plenty to do. Hands on stuff is really cool, and touching stations are included in admission, which is very nice. Shout out to the coolest hand washing stations I have ever seen! They have several different types and sizes of exhibits. My son loved seeing the divers in the big tank. The views outside are amazing. You can also get snacks at the snack bar, and they have a sizable gift shop. The parking garage is really close and only $5. As bonus, if the dude is selling ice pops on the way back to the garage, get one!
Mitchell M — Google review
The Charleston Aquarium is a truly extraordinary experience! The vast exhibits, especially the stunning large aquarium and the spectacular sharks, left me in awe. Every moment spent there was captivating, making it a must-visit destination for anyone who loves marine life. Highly recommended!

The Childrens Museum of the Lowcountry (CML) offers a stimulating environment for kids under 10 to explore and engage with interactive displays. From a Medieval Creativity Castle to a Fire Truck and Pirates, the museum provides various innovative settings for imaginative play. The Infant and Toddler Playspace caters to very young children with tactile and fine motor toys.
My kids ages 3-11 really enjoy this place! We typically stay for hours at a time. They just opened up a putt putt outside which kept my 11 and 5 yo boys entertained! We love the location and staff are always very friendly. We look forward to our next visit!
Codi E — Google review
We visited from out of town and my 3 year old had a blast! There was so much to do there even with it being pretty busy. There was an indoor and outdoor area which was really nice. There were constantly workers coming through and cleaning up and organizing toys. We were able to park our stroller on the side while he ran loose. It was such a fun experience and highly recommend!
Chelsea S — Google review
Great place to let the kids explore and learn. You may have some of these small toys at home but kids will watch and learn how to play them differently with the exposure of other children around them, one of the key thing to let kids grow in the real life environment. There is a work bench where they provided hammer, nails, screws and screw drivers for older kids to try their hands on the basic manual tools, with some safety gears available to use. Outdoor playing area is huge and lots of different activities to do for kids.
Krunal P — Google review
This is an excellent day activity for children, in a well appointed building. It is not the same size of major city children’s museums so I would suggest planning for maybe 2-3 hours but not an all day event. For two adults and 1 child it was $45, which seems about average.
T H — Google review
A little worse for wear with broken devices, scuffed surfaces, battered toys, unorganized puzzles, and an unappealing outdoor space - especially on a hot day. It feels less like a museum and more like a glorified playroom. Nonetheless, our toddlers enjoyed it. But the price is steep if you’re visiting as a family. Might be worth it if you are a local and have an annual membership.
Horacio S — Google review
Great place for children! My one year old enjoyed herself! The best part in my opinion was when they called bubbles and all the “older” kids went outside. My daughter was able to have more space to explore without as much chaos. There isn’t much space in the building. In my opinion I do wish it was bigger.. For the price, I honestly wish it was a little cheaper… as it is for children mostly…
Bree G — Google review
We came here with our 6 and 3 year old daughters and they both had a blast here! It's not a huge place, but there's plenty to keep kids entertained including multiple indoor play areas, an art area, and some outdoor activities as well. Our kids had a blast going between the different sections over and over. Prices were a little high, but you should be able to get a few hours of entertainment out of this place. Overall, I recommend checking out this museum for anyone with younger kids.
Sam S — Google review
Decent museum. It worked for the purpose of escaping some pretty intense heat and keeping our son occupied. A few of the rooms felt half-baked, especially the room whose theme was 'broken attractions'. Grocery store room was fun but would become a chaotic mess whenever the volunteers would leave the room. Imagination room was OK too but we felt was only really interesting to a narrow range of kids. This left the under 3 room, the recycled art room, which was fun, and the fish restaurant room, which was good for a laugh. Actually, the spot we enjoyed most was the sensory closet. More like this! Keep in mind that this is $15 per body. If we did this again, maybe Mom could go shopping while Dad watches the kid(s).

Established in 1773, The Charleston Museum is recognized as the first museum in America. It showcases artifacts related to South Carolina and Confederate history. The museum is a nonprofit organization accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Its early history was marked by association with notable figures and it has developed significant collections of ethnological and zoological specimens over time.
Amazing museum. The price is worth the experience! The exhibits are very robust and diverse. All of them give amazing insight on the history of Charleston and surrounding areas. Highly recommend coming here and giving it a try! Maybe even consider a membership to support local organizations!
Jeffrey L — Google review
The Charleston Museum is a good diversion on a hot, humid summer day as it is air conditioned inside. It’s not the Met, British Museum or the Louvre, but the collections that it does have are unique. Plan to spend about two hours or more if looking at and reading everything. There is a small gift shop near the ticket counter in the lobby of the museum but there is no food service. Restrooms are available on the first and second floors. Likewise, the entire museum is wheelchair friendly as there are ramps to entire the museum and elevators to reach the second floor.
Nathan G — Google review
A very well put together museum. Just a little bit on the smaller side... Price is a little high for the amount of time you'll spend in there, but still a very nice & informative museum , with plenty of artifacts.
Kirk B — Google review
Exploring Charleston's rich history has been an incredible journey! We’ve truly enjoyed exploring this beautiful, historic town, discovering its captivating stories and breathtaking architecture.

This is a Must-Do on a Charleston tourist visit. The Museum is modernized, expansive beyond social history to geography and politics of the place. Staff are super-welcoming, budget 2hrs and +1 Pkg.

Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park is a picturesque 14-acre site in coastal South Carolina, offering stunning views of the Charleston Harbor and the Arthur Ravenel Bridge. It features a nautical-themed playground, a 1,250-foot pier with bench swings, and various amenities such as a war memorial, cafe, gift shop, bait and tackle store, and pavilion. The park is also known for hosting events like fishing tournaments and music nights.
Mount Pleasant Waterfront Park is a hidden gem that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, relaxation, and recreation. The views of the Ravenel Bridge and Charleston Harbor are simply breathtaking, especially during sunrise and sunset, making it a photographer’s dream. The long pier extending over the water is ideal for a peaceful stroll, fishing, or simply taking in the serene sights and sounds of the water. The park’s well-maintained green spaces, picnic areas, and playground make it a great spot for families, while the benches along the pier invite moments of quiet reflection. There’s also a convenient gift shop and snack area, adding to the overall experience. Whether you’re a local or visiting for the first time, this park offers a slice of tranquility that leaves you feeling refreshed. Highly recommended for anyone seeking scenic views and a peaceful outing!
Arthur D — Google review
Wonderful walk under the Arthur Ravenel Jr Bridge. We saw a dolphin and lots of crabs and birds. The gift shop has lots of nice things. Restrooms are available. Plenty of parking. Plenty of places to sit and take in the scenery.
Kari F — Google review
New and beautiful. This location feels safe, it is amazingly built and a lot of research put into its location. With the bridge overhead providing shade and an amazing view. Lots of areas to fish that is well maintained. A lovely gift shop and swings, benches, chairs, picnic tables it is super welcoming. Pets are not permitted on the pier and that is kind of nice since you don't have to worry about a mess or someone having a pup that doesn't have manners. Overall this is an amazing pier and park! It also leads up go Ravenel bridge and that walk is breath taking!
Hawk C — Google review
We had such a great time at this park with my partner and our nephew! The space is clean, well-kept, and has plenty of room for kids to run and play. Our nephew loved the playground, and there were so many spots for us to relax and enjoy watching him have fun. What made it even better was how family-friendly the atmosphere felt—safe, welcoming, and full of other families enjoying the day. It really gave us the perfect chance to spend quality time together outdoors. This is definitely a park we’ll be coming back to again and again!
Corrie S — Google review
Plenty of free parking right across the visitor center. This park is free and well maintained. We visited on a week day and there were only a handful of other people walking around in the park. It’s very nice and the view of the bridge was beautiful. Be mindful of the noise of the traffic from atop the bridge though. It’s actually quite loud at times. We were able to see the York Town memorial from afar which was pretty cool. Dogs are allowed in most of the park but not on the pier which was disappointing to us. There’s a good sized cafe/gift shop at the entrance to the pier that sells breakfast at a reasonable price.
Ray W — Google review
The sunset views from this park are breathtaking—watching the sky shift from golden hues to soft pinks and purples is a moment you’ll want to savor. Whether you're with friends, family, or just flying solo, it’s a great place to kick back, enjoy some quiet time, and take in nature’s beauty.
Damira K — Google review
Absolutely great place for walking, AM or PM. We had gone later at night, and in the morning. Lots of misquotes, but it’s that time of year. You can walk up onto the bridge and overlook the water.

Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens is a historic working plantation that has been growing crops for over 320 years. It is famous for its moss-draped Avenue of Oaks and original slave cabins, offering visitors a glimpse into the South's rich history. The plantation has gained popularity as a filming location for movies like The Notebook and Forrest Gump, as well as being the site of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' wedding.
INFORMATIVE AND HUMBLING. Great visit. Everyone was so friendly and professional and a warm welcome in the visitor center. MARK gave a great tour of the house and his wife HEATHER of life at the plantation. Please make time for the GULLAH talk. It’s truly humbling as the modern generation of the slaves that were abducted from Africa tell of the trip to the USA and how they settled in arduous conditions. The cafe staff were friendly and the pimento cheese sandwich was delicious. In summary, picturesque and great value.
Neil E — Google review
Great place to spend the afternoon exploring history and enjoying a beautiful property. We took the 20 minute tour of the main house and the 30 minute wagon ride through the grounds, both of which were very enjoyable. We brought our one year old along and found it helpful to know that strollers are not permitted inside the main home. We left ours at the entrance until the tour and wagon ride were finished. The oak trees lining the entrance are absolutely breathtaking and set the tone for the visit. I also recommend tuning your radio to the advertised FM station as you enter to hear interesting background information about the property.
Andrew L — Google review
We only had the time to visit one plantation home while in Savannah and I chose to visit Boone Hall over the others because of the live presentations they offer, beautiful garden and infamous drive up to the house - which was absolutely breathtaking! There are many places on the property for photo opps and you truly have a day’s worth of activities to choose from. If going just to tour an old plantation home this probably isn’t the place for you as you are only allowed on the lower level of the house and the tour is rather quick. An informative ride around the property is included, as well as several live presentations/talks. Everything is very well organized and visiting doesn’t require too much walking. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend!
Ell T — Google review
Great day spent here. Ticket price includes all tours, which was nice. It was a beautiful day to spend outdoors. All the staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The Gullah presentation was interesting, the house was full of antiques and the gardens were full of life. Butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds
Karen M — Google review
This was a recommended plantation tour from our hotel and I highly recommend it as well. That incredible history starts when you first pull in under a canopy of oak trees that are over 300 years old. You’ll recognize them from the movies. We took one of the Tractor tours throughout the property and the friendly tour guide gave us all the Rich history of the plantation from the past 400 years which was fascinating. They have a little restaurant and convenience store on the property plus a gift shop. I recommend touring through the slave homes and learning many different facets of life during that period. They insightfully and respectfully took you through history while also honoring so many. The mansion tour was rather interesting also - learning about the several plantation owners’ stories. Take a moment to tour the gardens (floral and butterfly) that help complete this great landmark.

Boone Hall Plantation has been one of the highlights of our trip (2025). With the government shutdown of national parks, we've been forced to seek out state and privately-operated attractions. When I Googled "best southern plantations to visit," Boone Hall Plantation was #1! After visiting, I wholeheartedly agree. The cost is reasonable. Admission includes entrance, parking, the house tour, a wagon ride through the estate, various presentations on historical topics, plus time to wander about. (Personally, the presentation on Gullah culture was my favorite.) Whatever your interest is in plantation life, you will not be disappointed. The staff members are fantastic! They are knowledgeable, courteous, and inject well-timed humor in their interactions with the guests. You are able to experience as little or as much of life at Boone Hall as you wish. A bit of advice: as soon as you arrive, go to the guest center. Speak to the representative at the desk and (s)he will schedule you on the next available tour. Fortunately, we just happened to do this and began our house tour within 20 minutes of arrival. Also, a bit of walking is involved. Walking on sandy paths is not easy for everyone. Boone Hall is a must see!
James G — Google review
I've visited three different plantations in the Charleston South Carolina area and by far this is my favorite. Take me to this is still a working farm but I expect tourism breaks in most of their dollars. Regardless in this place at least they have most of the original plantation buildings. They also have a lot of brief informational speakers that give you a background of both the plantation and the history of the area for the 400 years or so this plantation has been in existence. Regardless this place is beautiful so if you're in the area I highly recommend stopping by and checking it out.

Best plantation we've visited in Charleston. Very interesting history. The tractor ride through the acreage was the best part giving the history from the beginning to present.

Fort Sumter National Monument, located in Charleston Harbor, is a significant historical site that played a pivotal role in the American Civil War. Accessible by boat, visitors can explore the ruins, gun emplacements, and a museum while learning about its place in American history. The fort saw the first shots of the Civil War when Confederate forces attacked it in 1861. Managed by the National Park Service, this nearly 200-year-old fort offers breathtaking views of downtown Charleston and the surrounding harbor.
Greatly enjoyed the ferry ride to and from the island, and of couse exploringthe island itself. It is a bit pricy but one has to take the ferry and historic site maintenance into account. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and had a sense of humor. Lots of cool history to see on the island itself,as well as seabirds and some cargo shipping going by. Some thought provoking exhibits in the visitor center as well. A nice, informative, relaxing excursion all round.

Our national park ranger was amazing. We were there for the taking down of the flag, which was a cool thing to see, especially with a flag the size of the storm flag on the fort. The ferry ride was nice too. Plenty of places to sit in the shade and still see all around.

Well worth it. The guides were very passionate about history and getting out on the water to see the fort and surrounding islands was super cool! Price was right. We also saw dolphins on our journey. There is no bathroom on the fort so make sure you use it while on the ferry. Also a museum and gift shop.

We visited this place by ferry and the volunteer was very nice and informative. They explained very well the history of the fort. In the fort you have old Canon and ammunition to see and also some unexploded bombs stuck in the walls (still there) of the fort. Once you are there, you can feel the emotions and spirit of the braves. Highly recommend

We took the boat there from Liberty Square. Great inexpensive Parking option at the Aquarium parking garage. If you take the 1st boat you can help raise the flag at Fort Sumter.

Being on an island in the harbor, a visit to Ft. Sumter involves two boat trips and a self guided tour of the fort. It's a great place to walk around to see cannons, bulwarks and explanations of the original event.
Rick N — Google review
Fort Sumter was a great experience and would recommend to anyone interested in American History. Remember to book your ferry tickets in advance, I chose the ferry that left from Liberty Square since it had move available time slots. If you take the first ferry of the day you get to experience the flag raising ceremony at the Fort itself which was cool. When on the ferry to the Fort, if the day is nice I would recommend sitting on the upper deck it has the better views of the harbor.

The boat ride over is a great experience. The views on the ride are great. The fort tour guides are the exceptional! The views on the island are amazing. One of the best tours I have had in many years. Worth the money.

Waterfront Park, also known as Joe Riley Waterfront Park, is a popular 12-acre open space in Charleston offering stunning views of the harbor and the Cooper River. The park features a large lawn, walkways, fountains, public gardens, and two piers for fishing or relaxation. It is famous for its iconic Pineapple Fountain and serves as a gathering place for residents and visitors to enjoy the picturesque scenery of Charleston Harbor and the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
Waterfront Park (Pineapple waterfront Park) located in Downtown is a beautiful and serene destination that perfectly combines natural beauty with peaceful urban escape. Located along the Charleston harbor, it offers breathtaking views of the water, especially during sunrise and sunset. The park is well-maintained with wide walking paths, tall palm trees, and inviting green lawns that make it ideal for both relaxation and light recreation. The iconic Pineapple Fountain is a favorite spot for visitors and a perfect backdrop for photos. Benches are placed throughout the park, allowing visitors to sit and enjoy the sea breeze and the sound of gently lapping waves. The pier with swinging benches adds a charming touch, and it’s a great place to unwind or have thoughtful conversations with friends or family. Families with kids will appreciate the open space and safe environment, while couples often stroll hand in hand along the waterfront. One of the best features is how welcoming and accessible the park is—it’s clean, pet-friendly, and just a short walk from downtown Charleston’s shops and restaurants. Whether you’re visiting for a short break or spending a whole afternoon, Waterfront Park offers a calm, scenic retreat that leaves you refreshed and inspired. Highly recommended!

Stopped by on recent visit to Charleston. Nice place to sit and relax while walking thru town. Park is very clean and beautiful views of waterway. Pretty cool that you are allowed to actually walk in the fountain’s water. This is not a large area but again, nice to stop and take a break.

What can I say it's a fountain? And it works, it does have a nice view and surroundings. It's hard to get a very outstanding picture. Because there are so many other people standing around, and the only reason why I actually stopped is because my wife was all excited about seeing it. Period if you go, you'll feel safe.Everything's clean, just straight up.Good time, especially with all the trees down the walkways.

Couldn’t take many photos because my phone ran out of battery during the walk, but it’s such a beautiful place to stroll with a dog. Lots of people were running, walking, and biking while enjoying the scenery. I was worried the weather might be cloudy, but thankfully it cleared up, even though it was quite windy. The Pineapple Fountain wasn’t as big as I expected, but it was still worth seeing. I didn’t want to wait in line, so I took a photo from the other side, haha. The tree-shaded areas and piers were beautiful, and the vast wetlands with ocean views were stunning! Since it was Sunday, parking was free.
HJ C — Google review
Waterfront Park is such a fun park to walk through or sit down in for a little bit. It has the most beautiful view of the channel, where, on a lucky day, you can see the families of dolphins surfacing to come up for air. Of course, it also has the Pineapple Fountain, and the other spray fountain (not sure what it's called) that the kids love to play in in the summertime. The only downsides are that if you're driving there, parking can be a little hard to find, and it can be VERY muggy in the summer. Other than that, I love simply sitting in Waterfront Park and taking in all of the beautiful scenery.
John D — Google review
Beautiful and free to roam day or night. Lots of nice displays of monuments, art-sculptures, and beautiful homes. Great walking trail with piers to enjoy the water or fish. Lots of open green space to enjoy and a playground for the kids.

Very beautiful! Great spot to visit! It’s really awesome to sit on a swing and watch the ships go by. If you’re driving a car, there is a parking garage very close by. It’s also not too far from Market Street which is great.

Came after a rain storm and the putt putt was flooded. We were told beforehand and decided to play anyways. Made it more challenging! Aside from that the two course options and theme/decorations on them were great! Had a great time with that and did not do any of the other activities but it looked like others were having fun. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have great deals with other businesses in the area.

Nice location to brings kids for a party. We only visited the arcade which was fun. 3 kids were able to play the VR Omni game which is $10/person. Then we played some at the arcade. Prices for games is pretty high compared to other places. Only a few games for $1. Even air hockey was $1.75. Otherwise seemed like a nice location to visit again.

Shem Creek, located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is a vibrant hub offering various activities for visitors. Historically a shrimping village, it has evolved into a lively area with waterfront dining, paddle boarding, and stunning sunsets. Renting kayaks is a popular way to explore the creek and its surroundings. The area also boasts an eclectic collection of restaurants, shops, and a marsh walk that make for great photo opportunities.
Beautiful sunset view over the water, great restaurants, great atmosphere, tons of parking (but you have to pay for it … lame). Love to go here and just hang out!

Love Shem creek. It has a fabulous walkway through the marsh and out to the ocean. Watch dolphins and beautiful wildlife. Magical
Darcy R — Google review
Shem Creek is hands‑down one of my favorite spots in the Lowcountry! That’s saying something in a place packed with postcard views. Whether you’re a first‑timer or a regular, there’s always something new to see, shoot, or taste out here. The minute you step onto the wooden boardwalks and look down the creek toward Charleston Harbor, you’ll understand why Hollywood keeps sneaking back. (Fun fact: several scenes from Outer Banks were filmed right here—so if the view feels familiar, that’s why) Shrimp trawlers drift by with brown pelicans riding shotgun, marsh grasses glow gold at sunset, and dolphins pop up often enough that locals barely flinch anymore. Bring binoculars if you’re into wildlife; bring a big memory card if you’re into photography. I come back all the time and still fill up SD cards by the end of the golden hour. As a photographer, I love how the light bounces off the water and those weathered boats. Early mornings give you calm, glassy reflections; late afternoons paint the sky pink and orange behind the Ravenel Bridge. Even on cloudy days, the shrimp boats, crab traps, and tangled ropes make for moody maritime shots. There are elevated overlooks, hidden nooks on side docks, and plenty of spots to set up a tripod without blocking foot traffic. When the stomach growls, you’re spoiled for choice. Saltwater Cowboys is my go‑to for smoked wings and a rooftop view; Tavern & Table nails Lowcountry comfort with shrimp and grits that might ruin you for life; and Red’s Ice House keeps it casual with cold beer, live music, and “boat‑watching” seats right on the creek. The best part? If you want to hop between appetizers at one place, mains at another, and sunset cocktails somewhere else, it’s all a few board‑planks apart. Not just a stroll‑and‑eat destination: outfitters rent kayaks and paddleboards if you want to slide past the shrimp fleet at water level (sunrise paddles are unreal). Charter boats run sunset cruises and inshore fishing trips, too. If you’re traveling with kids, there’s enough boat traffic, wildlife, and ice‑cream‑within‑500‑feet to keep them happy for hours. Parking is free but fills fast on weekends—aim for before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. if you want an easy spot. The boardwalk is stroller‑ and wheelchair‑friendly, with plenty of benches and shade trellises to cool off in summer. Bug spray never hurts at dusk (marsh life, y’all), and a light jacket is smart once that harbor breeze kicks in. Shem Creek nails the trifecta: unbeatable Lowcountry scenery, top‑notch seafood, and enough photo ops to keep any camera junkie buzzing. I’ve visited more times than I can count, and every trip still hands me something Instagram hasn’t seen yet. If you’re anywhere near Charleston—or just binge‑watched Outer Banks and want to walk the set—make Shem Creek your next stop. Five stars, every time.

Shem Creek is such a gem in the Charleston area! The views are absolutely unbeatable – especially at sunset when the whole creek lights up with boats, water reflections, and that classic Lowcountry sky. The boardwalk is perfect for a walk, and we even spotted dolphins while we were there. Tons of great restaurants line the water, all with a fun, laid-back vibe and fresh seafood. Whether you’re grabbing a drink, going for a kayak ride, or just enjoying the view, this is one of those can’t-miss Charleston experiences.

Patriots Point, located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, offers stunning views of Charleston Harbor and downtown Charleston. The venue features a Pavilion where couples can exchange vows with picturesque backdrops. Visitors can explore the Fort Sumter boat tour and enjoy discounted tickets for a second day if needed. The site also houses The Vietnam Experience exhibit, offering a moving and educational experience with interviews from surviving veterans and numerous displays. History enthusiasts will find the museum captivating but should be prepared for extensive walking.
This is a review of Patriots point Park in Mount pleasant South Carolina which includes the two ships USS Laffey and USS Yorktown. Upon arriving at Patriots point Park you will be asked to pay $5 for parking veterans and disabled also have to pay which was probably my only negative comment about this park. We started the tour by going on the USS Laffey which took us about an hour to walk around and the ship is in fantastic condition for its age and the tour is well laid out to be self-guided and absolutely well worth it. Second shift we went on was the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. This is by far my favorite as I have been on it several times and this last trip much more had been completed for tourists and interaction. There are several more aircraft available to look around that have been restored or in a great condition for the viewing public. There are also lots of additional rooms that you can go in now that were previously off limits to the public absolutely fantastic job by the team working on the ship and by all of the great volunteers.

Outstanding tour, preserving and presenting our American history through exhibits, video and information. We toured the USS Yorktown first, there are four tours associated with this great ship. Top side and at the entrance you get up close to 28 vintage aircraft. Explore the working operations of the ship from, medical to meals. This was a very interesting and informative tour. Next you have the medal of honor museum inside the Yorktown and next to the ship is the USS Laffey Destroyer. On the way out you get to tour the Vietnam experience. They offer video in addition to the exhibits. Definitely worth touring. There are restrooms by the gift shop and a parking lot just outside at $5 hour to park. Plan on spending a minimum of 3 hours, but 4 or 5 is more reasonable. Definitely worth the visit. I highly recommend.

So much to see and do at this location, there's no way to take in all of it in one day, especially if you want to take the Fort Sumter boat tour to explore the Fort. What would be so nice would be if they offered a discounted ticket for a second day if you cannot see it all in one. Plan on spending the entire day and get that early! But well worth it!

Charleston City Market is a historic 4-block market that has been around for over 200 years. It's a hub for local artisans selling sweetgrass baskets, leather goods, art, and more. The market also offers a variety of food options and fresh farm-to-table produce. The architectural significance of the buildings adds to the charm of this cultural hotspot. Visitors can explore the area and indulge in local cuisine at nearby eateries like Butcher and Bee or Home Team BBQ.
I recently visited the Charleston City Market during my trip to Charleston and really enjoyed the experience. The market is surprisingly long and filled with a wide variety of vendors. There’s just about anything you can think of for sale like local crafts, handmade goods, art, souvenirs, and more. It’s a great place to walk through, browse, and find something unique to take home.

The Charleston City Market is always a fun stop when visiting the city. There’s a little bit of everything here, so it’s easy to find souvenirs or unique gifts. Prices can be on the higher side, but that’s pretty standard for a tourist spot. On one of my first visits, a kid handed me a palm rose, and before I knew it, a man was chasing me down asking for $5—it gave off a bit of a New York street hustle vibe. The market is usually crowded and can get very hot in the summer, but there’s a small indoor section with food options, air conditioning, and surprisingly clean bathrooms, which was a welcome break.

Love shopping at the Charleston city market! Lots of great Christmas and birthday gift ideas! People are friendly and there is so much to look at. We also took an E-bike ride to the pineapple fountain and enjoyed sitting by the waterfront. Don’t miss a horse-drawn carriage ride around the city, in the evening, complete with spooky ghost stories and delicious restaurants all around. Overall, Charleston is a fun walkable city with lots of history and a fun vibe!

We checked out the Charleston City Market during the week. It was busy so I can only imagine the weekends. There is street parking and multiple lots available. Lots of local vendors and food available. What I like is that the market is covered. Most of it has fans above to try and keep the vendors and shoppers cool. Part of the market is enclosed with air conditioning. We found a few interesting items and tried some of the food. I would suggest checking it out if you make the trip to Charleston.

A beautifully designed market with a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Partially air-conditioned, featuring charming shops and stalls. The vendors are friendly, not pushy, and very customer-focused. It was just okay. I visited 20 years ago and it was much less commercial with more handcrafted arts available. Sadly, other than the baskets and paintings there was very little art and a whole lot of factory made junk. Was so sad that even the sea grass baskets were mass produced and really marked up in price. We loved watching the elders sit on a blanket and weave the baskets, not the vendors are youth playing on their phones chewing gum.

The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon is a historic building in Charleston, South Carolina, with a rich colonial history. It served as an exchange for trade, tax payments, and customs activities. The building witnessed significant events such as the Charleston Tea Parties and the reading of the Declaration of Independence. During the Revolutionary War, it was used by the British to imprison Patriot prisoners of war in its basement dungeon.
We started our morning at the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon and caught the first dungeon tour of the day at 10:00 a.m. Touring the first floor beforehand gave us a great intro, but the dungeon tour really brought the history to life. Our guide was excellent, engaging, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the stories being told. Afterward, we bought the combo ticket, which was definitely the right call. It gave us access to the Old Slave Mart Museum just a few blocks away, and I’d highly recommend doing both if you're visiting. Before heading there, we explored the upper floor of the Exchange building, where we saw a lot of exhibits centered on the American Revolution. The displays were interactive and well presented, and yes, we even got to sign the Declaration of Independence. The museum gave us a clearer picture of Charleston’s role in the Revolutionary War, the development of the city, and the darker parts of its past. It was sobering but important. The walk over to the nearby public pier and Pineapple Fountain gave us a chance to process and reflect before continuing to the Slave Mart Museum. This was one of those experiences that blends beauty, history, and some very hard truths. It’s difficult to face certain chapters of our country’s past, but it’s necessary. If you're anywhere near downtown Charleston, make the time. Get the combo ticket. Learn, reflect, and walk away with a deeper understanding of where we've come from, and what we hope never to repeat.
Justin T — Google review
Visited on a Tuesday afternoon. They have tours of the dungeon every 30 minutes. You can not buy tickets ahead of time online, it's in person only. The regular part of the museum is very informative, id reccomend it for school age kids and up as there is a lot of reading small writing. They had a man with different kinds of muskets at a table who was very informative. We all got to sign the replica of the declaration of independence which was fun. The dungeon tour was 20 min long (not too long, not too short). It was neat to see and they set it up very nicely. Our guide was informative and funny.
Kristin — Google review
This was a very good tour of the Provost and Dungeon, as well as great history of one of the most historically important buildings in the country. Constitution was ratified here; Washington was entertained here; it was a trade center for many years, a post office, and the basement was used as the prison for 2.5 years in Revolutionary War times. The building itself is amazing, as it was completed in 1771, and in the basement level can be seen part of the original Half Moon Battery from Charles Towne's colonial fortification in 1702.
Paulette S — Google review
You will not be disappointed by touring the Old Exchange and Dungeon. The guides are extremely informative and while there is a fee for the dungeon tour, it is worth it. While some of the props seemed a bit odd, the building itself is rich with history. The guides also do a wonderful job of trying to truly highlight the realities of what occurred within the walls of the Old Exchange and Charleston itself. My best advice is to give yourself time to explore the first two levels of the building prior to going on the dungeon tour. We called prior to arriving and were told that the last entry for the building was 5pm and that we would have enough time to explore all levels. We arrived at about 4:40pm and learned that after the tour, we would not be able to explore the other two levels. Needless to say, our viewing of the first two levels felt rushed. Overall, the Old Exchange is a fascinating building to view and explore and we loved the tour! All of the staff are knowledgeable and love their job.

My husband I happened to walk near this museum as we were walking back from a pier. Friendly staff and nice tour. Pricing was good. Worth the price. Lots of history, we were allowed to take pictures and we took lots so we could go back and do some research.
Shanda B — Google review
Fact: Provost Dungeon is older than our country! The British originally owned it and used it as a commercial exchange and customs house. Also used as a post office, prison, and city hall, it is currently a museum. In addition, in 1788 South Carolina approved the US Constitution here. Yet another testament to the rich history of Charleston, Old Exchange, and Provost Dungeon a fascinating places to visit. Built in 1771, it has changed roles countless times: it was a British dungeon during the American Revolution, an elegant hall during George Washington’s 1791 visit to Charleston, and a meeting place for the ratification of the Constitution, In 1780 the British occupied Charleston for two years and housed many prisoners in one large cell in this basement making it a provost, or dungeon. Because of the awful conditions here, disease was rampant due to crowding, and no bathroom facilities. Under these conditions, many people died while in prison here. This prison held all types of people, including American and British soldiers, private citizens, and slaves. The first and second floor of the building is home to a museum dedicated to the other uses of the Exchange Building. Fee: Admission to this historic building is only $12 for adults. For a small fee, a guided tour through the lower level and you can learn a lot from the guide.

I was walking by and saw the sign for the dungeon tour and I had to stop. I got my ticket and waited for my tour. Our guide was all dressed up and ready to give the history lesson. Place was truly a relic of the past. I absolutely loved it and our guide was so knowledgeable. It might be boring for younger children but pre teens or teenagers might actually enjoy it.

What history that occurred here! Ratification of the Constitution, a place that George Washington visited and then the tour. Our tour guide spent time explaining so much that no one had questions. Such history in the dungeon!

Beautiful boardwalk for a leisurely walk through the marsh. There is no shortage of wildlife. We took our stroll around sunset which was perfect. It seemed to be very popular with fishermen and kayakers too.

Beautiful place to watch a sunrise at the ground level in the marsh. I would love to come back in the evening for the restaurants. My wife went tot he road on the bridge and was able to capture more picture of the sunrise. Overall, great experience.

Dock Street Theatre is an ornate playhouse featuring elegant woodwork and a charming cobblestone courtyard, offering a variety of performances including dramas, comedies, and musicals. It is one of the must-visit attractions in Charleston, South Carolina. In addition to experiencing local culture at the theatre, visitors can explore nearby sightseeing spots such as Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, Fort Sumter & Fort Moultrie, and Rainbow Row.
Just experienced this theater for the first time. I saw The Sound of Music which was fabulous! The set designs were amazing. I especially loved the night sky. The ability of the artists was way beyond my expectations. The music was excellent from the singers to the orchestra. The theater itself is historic and beautiful. You may want to bring a pillow to sit on as the seats get hard after a while.

Charleston is home to a thriving arts scene, including the Dock Street Theatre, America's first permanent playhouse. America’s first theater – designed solely for theatrical performances. It was built in 1736, was remodeled several times, and now serves its original purpose. It is also one of the most photographed buildings in the city . Built on the corner of Church Street and Dock Street (now known as Queen Street), the Historic Dock Street Theatre was the first structure in America built exclusively to be used for theatrical performances. Flora, the first opera performance in America, took place at the Historic Dock Street Theatre. Now owned and managed by the City of Charleston, the Historic Dock Street Theatre (soon to enter its fourth century as the heart of Charleston's artistic life) is home to many of the City's finest cultural institutions.

The theatre is beautiful. The plays are great. We get season tickets and love the shows. Amazing quality for local theatre. The seats are not that comfortable but manageable.

We visit here yearly.... For some great entertainment alongside an evening of downtown visits. This year was sound of music. A personal fav. The Charleston stage crew do a fabulous job bringing the story to life. I have a real appreciation for the historical value of the building. Some seats do not serve well to view the stage adequately. While the pricier front ones do.

I loved the dairy of a wimpy kid play, the actors were professional, my kid was super interested in the play so he wants to go back to see that play again. My child said that it was better then the galliard.

We just happened to pass by this as we were exploring Charleston for the first time. It doesn't cost anything and you can just do a free will donation. You're able to go around the entire building unless it's blocked off by a rope. You can walk into the second level of the theater and even the old bar. I definitely recommend just to stop on and in and check it out! The exterior is absolutely stunning and you feel like you're walking back in time when you see the theater.

Located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, the Charles Pinckney National Historic Site is a 28-acre remnant of Charles Pinckney's original 18th-century plantation known as Snee Farm. The site offers indoor and outdoor exhibits that delve into the life and times of Charles Pinckney, who was a signer of the U.S. Constitution. Visitors can explore archaeological findings that tell the story of both Pinckney and the enslaved people who lived on the plantation.
Important parts of history are preserved here. The rangers are very knowledgeable and friendly and the 17 minute movie was interesting. There are nice short trails and it’s quite a learning experience. I’m glad I stopped!
Adventures B — Google review
Charles Pinckney National Historic Site is free to enjoy. There is a small gravel parking lot and a large covered picnic pavilion with large, nice restrooms. There is a trail around the estate. Bring bug spray! The house is pretty small with a knowledgeable ranger and a museum. There is a small store as well. The museum dies a good job of explaining the importance of the Pinckney family to our nation. It also has information on the Gullah people who descended from the enslaved people in the Charleston area, including a Gullah translation of the Bible! I found it fascinating. Overall, it's a nice, simple place to visit for an hour or so.
Tracy B — Google review
Very informative. Enjoyed going through the house/ museum (Free!!) Use bug repellent. The online hours are for the park, not the museum/house. Best to visit on a weekend.

This National Historic Site celebrates Charles Pinckney and his wife who invented indigo cultivation for dye. It's a small site with a generous parking lot, open area, nature trail, and historic home. The park ground are open daily but be sure to verify the house is open before you arrive. They are closed some days so you won't be able to enter or get your park stamp.
Michael B — Google review
Definitely a neat historic place to visit. I am glad I went to explore and appreciate the history there, the good and not so good. Thank you for preserving this piece of our nations history.
Brian G — Google review
This National Historic Site is a nice trip to spend a few hours at. It's less than a half day so if you need something to do or would like to learn about a South Carolina statesmen I would recommend going. Key Notes: - It's free! - The stamp for the national park book is located in the gift shop - There is parking with restrooms right by the parking area. - There is a scheduled tour, you will meet by the bathrooms in the picnic area, starts at 11:00 am. - You can go inside the house (it's not the original) for some interesting historical reads, watch a short film about Charles Pinckney and to visit the gift shop. - There are a few walking trails but you will want to bring sun screen, bug spray and wear comfortable shoes during the warm months. - Great place to have a picnic - They have doggie bags to pick up waste - They have a water fountain for filling up water bottles near the bathroom - There is poison ivy so be on the lookout. They saying to remember if it's poison ivy: If you see 3 leaves let it be, if there's 5 you're fine. I would recommend going, there is a lot to learn about this South Carolinian statesmen who played a big role in the Declaration of Independence.
Cat B — Google review
Beautiful and quiet. The rope that grew into a tree was cool and one of the giant trees you can see daylight through up towards the top. It's really great that people took the time and effort to reclaim this history for the public.
Tammy R — Google review
I didn’t go inside the house - too hot and stuff today but the grounds are beautiful! Lots of trails out in the open and through the woods through small tree tunnels. There are signs with history bites all over the property. Bathrooms are clean and there is a filtered water refill station. It is a coveted station and there are quite a few picnic tables and trash receptacles. Parking lot is a decent size (maybe 15 spots). Gravel. Leashed pet dogs are welcome everywhere except inside the house.

Mount Pleasant Pier is a 1,250-foot-long modern pier located in the charming town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. It is part of the Memorial Waterfront Park complex and offers stunning views of Charleston Harbor and the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. The pier features bench swings, a pavilion for events, a cafe/gift shop, and a fenced-in play park shaded by the bridge. Visitors can enjoy fishing from the pier or simply relax on rocking chairs while taking in the picturesque surroundings.
Breathtaking walk down the pier and under the magnificent bridge. You have to pay a fee to fish off of this. There is a shop at the beginning of the pier where you can buy the fishing pass and souvenirs. It also connects to a boardwalk, a local park, and the bridge. Lots of runners there!
Julia R — Google review
Loved this pier/park. Very clean, and beautifully laid out. There were nice walking paths and, a playground that mirrored the design of the bridge. A lovely water feature with seating around it, and another area had a splash pad, skating area, and basketball courts. Plenty of lawn space for picnics and watching kids run around. The actual pier was spectacular. There are plenty of shaded seating areas, and tables to sit at. The fishing areas were clean and it was fun watching the patrons catch fish, turtles, and even a sting ray (which all got thrown back in). The views are lovely all around and the sunset was peaceful.
Kim M — Google review
This place was great. Playgrounds. Splash pad. Gift shop. However the fishing was abysmal. We went in the afternoon and didn’t account for the tides. Even walking to the end of the dock the water was maybe 1.5- 2’ deep. The first half of the dock was just over wet sand. That is my fault but man it was disappointing. Me and numerous other anglers were skunked. Still a nice place but either go super early or super late if you want to fish.
Corey S — Google review
Awesome place with large playground close by under the bridge. Great place to stay out of the sun, and a perfect place for a walk at sunset. Plenty of parking, and can grab a drink (beer and wine) and walk to the end of the pier. Nice modern pier, and plenty of seating.
Andrew M — Google review
Great views of the bridge. Plenty of free parking. A shop with food and stuff. Lots of benches to sit and people watch. You can fish but need to pay. Lots of fancy playground equipment for young kids.
Frank Y — Google review
Great pier in my opinion I love how it’s kind of shaded by that big bridge! It really depends on the tide to what you you’re going to catch, but we were able to catch one good pen fish around 1pm. I love how the gift shop offers pole rentals. It’s a great plus if you’re From out of town and wanting to fish. The pier was pretty busy from people walking and running to fishing with their kids. People from all ages and all different nationalities 🙌🏻 Everyone seem to be very nice and friendly! As it should be

Pitt Street Bridge, located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is a popular pedestrian greenway with a rich history. It offers stunning views of Charleston Harbor, Fort Sumter, and the Intracoastal Waterway. Originally built in 1794 and spanning nearly 500 feet, this historic bridge provides a scenic route for walkers and cyclists to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. A wonderful place to visit. It is currently under renovation so there are limitations. But it's a nice quick walk or bike path. If you're a cyclist the area around is also wonderful to tour. Plenty to love.

As Charleston photographers, we love Pitt Street Bridge. We've photographed proposals, weddings, yoga teachers, family sessions, and maternity sessions there. You've got great views of the water, the marshes, and the nearby bridges. Sunsets can be amazing as well. We've never had a bad day at Pitt Street.

A really great place to watch sunset and/or sit and relax. Plenty of parking by the road, just before the park. We got to see a really pretty sunset although the clouds came in just as the sun was about to disappear. I would advice wearing covered clothes as there are flies and bugs close to the water.

I can’t believe I lived in Charleston for almost 9 years without ever visiting this park/bridge. Wandered over here on a Saturday afternoon and wasn’t disappointed! Views are awesome in every direction, people were fishing, biking, walking… The park has a lot of character and it’s somewhat of a hidden gem I’d say. I will definitely be back with my camera for some sunset photos of the Charleston cityscape with the bridge!
Travis I — Google review
Well it was just the old bridge when I was a kid living on Simmons St. Was there several times a week in the summer, that or the slip and slide. Interesting and groundbreaking techniques were used when it crossed ICW to Sullivan's. Had a train I believe used to fortify Moultrie and Thompson battery's. Regardless the view hasn't changed nor the smell of pluff mud. Love that place.

Last while in South Carolina, visiting my son, we went to what he called Battery Park. It was a really nice breeze off the the day I think you call it. This place was a gem.... Not very much to do here, but if you appreciate Confederate history, you'll have fun here and enjoy the monuments, and if you're a whiny liberal snowflake, I recommend you stay away from here... The Confederate monuments might hurt your sissy feelings.... On a serious note, there is a lot of rich history here and it is amazing to know this city still has an endearment attitude towards the confederacy.... Beautiful!!!!

Rainbow Row is a collection of 13 vibrant rowhouses in Charleston's Historic District, dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Visitors can join guided tours that explore the LGBTQ+ history of the area, with proceeds supporting the College of Charleston's SC LGBTQ Archive. Alternatively, self-guided tours using an online map are also available.
We took a quick walk downtown to the waterfront park and then walked around to get to Rainbow Row. Not the easiest to see if you just drive by because of the trees, so walking is really a must! There's street parking and some parking garages not too far and it's such a happy little place. We loved seeing it!

Beautiful place!! What a lovely idea to fill everything with colors 🌈 Without a doubt, a place full of history and beauty 💗🫶🏻 Perfect for taking photos, but if you visit on the weekend, like I did, be prepared to wait for places to take them 📸 The heat was also intense! Beautiful place to visit. The weather was just right (early September), when my family and I went. Charleston,SC is such a charming place to see. I think it's a romantic place. Rainbow row is as beautiful as I've seen in other pictures. The area is a historic landmark. People running as they exercise and walking their doggies. Nestled along Horlbeck Creek off the Wando River, this park boasts the Osprey Trail—a scenic one-mile loop through woodlands with marsh and creek views. Families can enjoy boardwalks, bike paths, an observation deck, and picnic facilities with grills.
Lovely place to get 'lost' in South Carolina. They have unpaved trails as well as boardwalks. It was quiet in early February. A good amount of wildlife or at least evidence of it. Bring a good lens and camera to get bird photos. I imagine it's crazy busy during the summer, so time your visit right.

First time going here with 3 kids. They loved the observation tower. They also really liked the storybook walk it was short enough and had signs with little poems on them. Plus seeing all the crabs and lizards running around was really cool. It was super hot so we decided to go to the pool it was so nice for younger kids. The toddler splash pad type pool was super close to the swimming pool I could stand there with my toddler and still clearly see my older kids. The swimming pool didn't go deeper then 3 1/2 feet deep I think. It was really fun and decently priced.

Unassumingly cool park. It's not huge, but definitely large enough to enjoy a nice walk out in nature among the woods and marshes. Wildlife everywhere. Birds nesting deep in the marsh grasses. You can hear them calling out to each other, sometimes even just a few feet away from you, but you can't see them. What you can see are the thousands upon thousands of teeny tiny marsh crabs skittering about everywhere. Very cool, if not slightly unsettling! The observation tower provides a beautiful view, although it seemed a tad wobbly. Might want to look into that! Facilities seemed nice. There were fishing docks, picnic pavilions for rent, etc. We loved their old 70s logo. Almost wanted to buy a shirt!

The Charleston Farmers Market, located in Marion Square since 1989, is a vibrant weekly outdoor market showcasing an array of locally sourced produce and artisan crafts. Visitors can enjoy browsing through the diverse selection of seasonal fruits and vegetables while sampling delectable treats like nuts, cheese, olives, and cakes. In addition to the fresh produce, the market also features local craftspeople offering handmade goods and a variety of food vendors serving up delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner options.
What a great experience we had here! We stumbled upon this event when we went out in search of coffee. Such an adorable environment. We ate at the breakfast place. I don’t know the name of it but it was delicious. I witness them serving a homeless person at no charge. It was so nice to see. I loved seeing all of the artisans. My favorite were the handmade wooden bowls. I wish I had bought one!

Good mix of food and crafts vendors. It's a pretty small market and can become quite crowded on popular weekends. It's a nice setting to buy some food and picnic in Marion Square. Sky Zone Trampoline Park is a chain of indoor trampoline parks that offers a variety of activities such as freestyle bouncing, dodgeball, and fitness programs. It's the perfect destination for active entertainment and a unique way to burn energy. The park features numerous trampolines that provide endless opportunities for bouncing, flipping, and soaring through the air in a safe environment. It's popular among kids who attend birthday parties here and is also enjoyed by adults looking for an exciting way to stay active.
I’ve taken my kids here on several occasions for birthday parties of friends, but today was the first time I took them independently on our own. I was surprised to see it less busy than normal (one of the employees mentioned Sundays tend to vary widely on customer traffic). The facilities are pretty impressively clean and well-maintained. In addition to keeping jumpers safe, I noticed the young floor monitors really engage with the kids (demonstrating safe flips, bouncing little ones on the raised platform). It made my daughters’ experience fun and less boring than if they were completely left to their own devices. I got to speak to the manager on duty and he was friendly and professional (and based on a situation that went down, it was obvious he looks after his team - which I appreciate as a mother!). Overall this Skyzone location is one we’ll absolutely recommend and return to, and looks like a fun place to work for high schoolers and college kids!

Good spot for kids to burn some energy but expect to burn some cash! Plenty of parking and geared more towards school aged kids. My 2 and 4 year old weren't able to do as much as some of the 5+ year old kids. Paid $20+ on 3 small icees. Tickets for a 2 and 4 yr old were $35 and could jump for 1.5 hours which was enough time for them. Seating for parents to watch was limited. The staff was attentive to the areas in the jumping sections. Bathrooms were clean. Lockers avaliable. No coffee for parents and i did suggest they carry Celsius. Otherwise just soda and water. May go back or try a different place. Thanks!

Took my little cousins to have a fun evening jumping and rock climbing. Unfortunately, they did not have their air on for some reason and the girls were about to pass out from being so active without AC. Remember this is Charleston and July temperatures can be really high. For $82 dollars (2 tickets and 2 pairs of special socks), I would have expected a better experience.

Came for a birthday party-the entire staff were on their phones the whole time. Good thing I follow my daughter everywhere-because I’m not sure if she or someone else was hurt that any of the staff would notice. Though I should say the girl who checks us in and saves the party was extremely kind. But would j drop my kid off here-absolutely NOT.

Was in town for the day so my son could visit a friend. They had a ball. The price is not bad. The inside had a lot of areas including a same arcade. There were rooms used for birthday parties. We didn't pay for the all day pass but as it was not busy there played for 3 hours which was an hour past there time. If you're looking for a place to let your kids burn off some energy, this place will do it. We live about 2 1/2 hours from there and he slept for most of the ride home.

The park was amazing and my children had fun, but there was a team member I think who was named Violet that came up to us and asked us when we were leaving. I think that is far from professional and not something you should ask a customer.

Great place! Kids love it. Better to go in “off hours” for younger kids but overall a fun activity. Clean and well kept. The staff are really sweet with my young ones and when it’s not busy always make time to play with them. I think my kids love the staff more than the trampolines!

The Charleston Water Taxi is a local favorite for exploring the stunning coastline without enduring more time in the car. You can board at nearby marinas such as Charleston Harbor Resort and Patriots Point, and enjoy a scenic ride across the harbor to downtown. Alternatively, stay on board for views of landmarks like the U.S.S. Yorktown, Cooper River Bridge, historic downtown skyline, and Castle Pinckney Civil War fort.
Well worth the 17 dollars. There are 4 stops and you are welcome to ride all day long if you want to. The tour guide will point out dolphins. A great way to get out onto the water. It stops at every stop every hour?
Kristen G — Google review
Great way to get around the harbor. 17 bucks for an all day pass, easy to hop on and off. The captains have amazing control over the ferry and are friendly and welcoming to the passengers. A pleasant experience which works well even with a rollator.

Great way to avoid the Hustle and bustle of normal traffic to travel and see all of Charleston's charm.

Such a great deal for what you get — we even saw multiple dolphins! 🐬 We visit Charleston every year, but this was our first time actually riding into the harbor, and I’d definitely do it again. Huge shoutout to Captain Dallas and Nellie (and their sweet dog) — they were amazing! Friendly, fun, and even went out of their way to pick us up when they were already leaving. That kind of kindness is rare these days. We skipped the Yorktown and went straight to Charleston Harbor, took the captain’s suggestion to check out the Fish House for a drink and a shared meal, then caught the taxi right back in time to be dropped off at my favorite pier with the swings. Perfect day. Only downside — later in the day, another crew with a woman named Jen and her mate was… less friendly. Jen was actually downright rude. She might be great at her job, but the interaction with her felt unnecessarily harsh and uncomfortable. Just something to be aware of. I do understand that there was clearly a miscommunication on her side and my side, without taking it more awkward. Still, the Water Taxi is an awesome way to see Charleston from the water. If you get Dallas and Nellie, you’re in for the best experience!

Jenn and Chip were great pilots. Saw lots of wildlife dolphins, turtles and birds. Hopped off lots of times. They did an excellent job of finding the dolphins even found a baby. The first mates also were very pleasant but I couldn't remember the girls names sorry.

Love Charleston Water Taxi! I have been riding with them for about the past 10 years. The Captains are always great and engaging. If you're a local and looking for something to do, pay $17 and ride the stops and look out for dolphins. Even if you don't see any, but you usually will, it's still fun to be on the water. I've had a captain let my daughter drive the boat about 9 years ago and Captain Chip let my (autistic) friend Timothy drive the boat today. 💙 That was SUPER special to him! If you're visiting - it's an easy way to get from DT to Mt P (or vice versa) to eat or view nearby attractions. There are 4 stops and it takes about an hour for the boat to get them all. (When it's busy they run 2 boats, so the wait time is even shorter. )
Heather D — Google review
This was awesome. Took the water taxi over to see the historic USS Yorktown and submarine. It truly was a fantastic experience. Beautiful and smooth ride over, not choppy at all. We explored the other side of the shore and came back on the return. There is parking structure just around the corner from boarding, and is located at the end of Market Street. The staff were fantastic, and very knowledgeable about the area and ensured the ride was fun and entertaining by making time for people to photograph and see the dolphins. A must do if in Charleston.
Mark T — Google review
I can’t speak highly enough of this company. Veteran owned and operated. The crew was so kind. They were pulling away and came back when they saw us waiting. So professional and kind. Great price point. You can ride all day. Excellence on the water. Thank you to all our service members! Jessica and Iris are true gems. What a beautiful experience I highly recommend 🖤

The Old Village Historic District, located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is a charming neighborhood with a rich history dating back to the 17th century. As the first historic district protected by local legislation, it has served as a model for other cities looking to preserve their heritage. The area was once dependent on African slave labor and trade and played a significant role as a major port city for trading rice, indigo, and other goods.
I thought this was a cool place. Really nice houses with a laid back vibe.

Old-style pharmacy & ice cream parlor. A few shops and restaurants. The area is very congested. Driving around and looking at the houses in the vicinity was more fun. We did get to see some movie magic, Netflix was doing some filming for the Outerbanks series.

Both the Mt Pleasant and Sullivan's Island historic districts were nice. Mt Pleasant has a drug store dating back to the early 1900s. They have their own brand of ice cream and a wall of historic artifacts.

The Nathaniel Russell House, built in 1808 by prominent shipping merchant Nathaniel Russell, is a stunning example of neoclassical architecture. The house features a remarkable three-story spiral staircase and is located strategically near the bustling wharves that contributed to Russell's wealth. Inspired by English designer Robert Adam and influenced by classical Italian designs, the mansion exudes elegance and classical charm.

Very cool historic house. I really enjoyed the self guided audio tour, after the main blurb about the spot you’re in, you could choose to listen to a bunch of extras or not! I like having the choice. Crazy to me that the doors were painted to look exactly like mahogany, but are just regular wood even though the family had enough money for the real thing 🤣 Lots of interesting facts about this place and all the workers were very sweet.

This is a beautifully restored 1808 Neoclassical mansion in Charleston. It is a jewel box with wonderful wallpaper, curtains, funishings, table settings, the works. It is not to be missed by locals or tourists.

This was my first tour of this kind. The gardens are beautiful. The restoration is nicely done, and we admired the carpentry and details. A round room with rounded doors is certainly something to appreciate. The staircase is a thing of art as well. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and very patient in answering our questions and giving us time to view each space. Honestly, it was a tough experience, but I'm glad we visited.

The Gibbes Museum of Art, located in a century-old beaux arts-style building, showcases portraits and landscapes dating back to the 1700s. It is one of the must-visit attractions in the area, offering a glimpse into local culture and history. After exploring the museum, visitors can indulge in great local dining options and explore nearby shopping areas. Despite its size, the museum offers an enjoyable experience for art enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
Beautiful space, wonderful exhibitions, right in the heart of Charleston. It was a surprise to discover that Sundays are free. The museum was lively with activity but didn’t feel crowded. Locals and tourists alike. Vibrant hands-on art creating for all ages. We got to chat with an artist in residence and enjoyed lunch from a great food truck right at the front steps.

We went with my husband’s family on a Sunday, just trying to find something to do on a rainy day. I saw in the comments that it was free—turns out, nope! It’s actually $14 a person. That said, the place is super pretty, really well kept, and bigger than I expected. The art is awesome—lots of pieces inspired by Charleston’s landscape and vibe, which I loved. Honestly, the price isn’t bad. If you’re into art, it’s definitely worth checking out!

Really beautiful building with a wonderful permanent collection. The current rotating exhibition was on Harriet Tubman and was exceptionally well done. It was a nice combination of 2D art, video, and sculpture/artifact. We went during the Wednesday late hours (5-8pm) with free admission but I think it would have been well worth the $15 per person admission.

Daps Breakfast & Imbibe is a casual and trendy neighborhood spot located in the Westside neighborhood of Charleston. It offers a variety of breakfast options such as hash browns, pancakes, and egg sandwiches along with coffee and cocktails. The establishment aims to provide a quality-driven space for individuals to grab food and drinks on the go or enjoy outdoor seating on the patio.
“If you’re looking for a great breakfast spot, let me tell you—Daps Breakfast Spot is where it’s at! I stopped by recently and had their breakfast burrito, and let me just say, it did not disappoint. Packed with all the good stuff, it was the perfect way to start the day. The atmosphere at Daps is just as great as the food—welcoming, laid-back, and a place you’ll want to keep coming back to. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this spot is a must-try. Highly recommend!”

At the moment, the hours are from 8 AM to 2 PM. They have indoor and outdoor seating. There are Uber eat pick up options for delivery. .Its a breakfast spot, pancakes, French toast, burritos and they also serve burgers. They had a unique pancake that was on the menu. It is made with a cereal that I grow up eating as a kid “Fruity pebbles” The pancakes are big.You don’t have to order a normal stack you could order one at a time and mix the different types they offer. I recommend eating it with a fork and knife.

We visited Daps for the first time in a month or two to take my dad to brunch. Ranted and raved over how much we loved Daps and how great the food was. They were out of the brunch burger so we ordered some other egg sandwiches and a mushroom toast. We were so disappointed in all of our sandwiches. The eggs were so thick and dense. Truly an awful consistency. This was a far cry from the soft, fresh scrambled eggs they used to put on their sandwiches. At $14+ for an egg sandwich the shortcuts they are taking is stepping down the quality of their food. There is more than one way to scramble an egg and it feels you have picked the worst!
Wesley T — Google review
Breakfast was absolutely delicious! I ordered the breakfast turkey club and it was so good! I can't wait to come back and try more from the menu! The service was great too. The seating is limited inside so be prepared to sit outside. There is plenty of seating outside. They do have heated lamps so that was much appreciated.
Tamara — Google review
This was my first visit to this establishment. The first impression I had was a hipster type cafe with healthy or trendy selections. I opted for the breakfast plate with sausage ($2 upcharge) and herbed toast ($1 upcharge). The eggs were perfectly cooked (over medium) as well as the delicious hash browns. The herbed toast was wonderful, it had the taste of fried bread. I would recommend this place if you have time to search for parking on the narrow streets. By the way, selections are served on paper plates with plastic utensils.

If you're in the Charleston area, don't miss out on the vibrant Mount Pleasant Farmers Market, which takes place every Tuesday at Moultrie Middle School through September. This bustling market is a treasure trove of local delights, offering everything from fresh produce and artisanal cheeses to delectable ice cream sandwiches and ready-to-eat meals. The atmosphere is lively, with families enjoying activities for kids while the enticing aroma of funnel cakes fills the air.
Very nice!! You can get items for the week and dinner for your family. From pasta to pies!!! The olive oil lady was recommended to us so we had to try it!! Amazing and her story is even better. Eggs are expensive as usual 😒 my advice is to check out all the farmers in the area before you decide which one you like instead of stopping at the first one.

Water & Amusement Parks
Splash Island Waterpark is a delightful seasonal destination located within the lush surroundings of Mount Pleasant's Palmetto Islands County Park. This charming waterpark offers a variety of attractions that cater to families, making it an ideal spot for both toddlers and preteens. Guests can enjoy the thrill of sliding down the impressive 200-foot body flume slide or splashing around in the shallow pool filled with fountains and sprays.
This water park was awesome! Perfect place for kids of all ages. My 4 and 6 year old boys had a blast. Plenty of seating, even on a Saturday. I loved that they had food available for purchase. We also enjoyed walking on the nature trails nearby in the park and playing on the playground. So much fun!
Beth B — Google review
Cute water park for kids. One big slide for 48" and above and the rest is little kid friendly. The staff was friendly and I was very impressed by the lifeguards. They were active, paying attention and in constant rotation and communication. I would say the concrete was extremely hot. I've never encountered a water park that you weren't able to walk on within reason even with excessive heat. This is dangerous especially for little kids. This was the only reason it didnt get a 5 star.
Tiffany P — Google review
I encourage you to get there when it opens at 10am to enjoy it before things get crowded (around 11:30ish). My 5 and 3 year old had a lot of fun! The lifeguards were great.
Kendall B — Google review
The waterpark was way more fun expected are six and eight-year-olds had a blast on the waterslide and the splash park and getting goodies from the concession stand
Beth R — Google review
Not too crowded. We were there in the morning and there is plenty of shade. This is a great place for smaller kids maybe up to age 10. I thought it was clean with plenty of life guards.
Jane C — Google review
Splash island is JOKE! Don’t waste your time or money. The bathrooms were awful. They have about 12 lifeguards on staff walking around a splash pad with recuse tubes pretending like someone might drown in ankle deep water. With all those people, apparently they have no one to clean a bathroom. There is no lazy river. They have one “big slide” that is incredibly slow. However you have to be 48” tall to ride it. The problem is that if you actually have a kid that’s 48” tall, well that’s the ONLY thing for them to do. Everything else is pretty much for small kids. My 7 year old was too big for all the baby stuff, but 1” too short for the “big” slide. I questioned them if I could go down the slide with her and they said no. Then I watched their summer camp kids who were 6” shorter than my child go down the slide. Also I should mention, half of the summer camp kids had on life jackets because they couldn’t swim. The slide empties into maybe 3 1/2’ of water. My child was a much better swimmer than any of the other kids going down the big slide. So mad, we left the park after maybe 15 minutes. Called the park managers and the girl was extremely rude and unhelpful in resolving the situation. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AT THIS DUMP OF A PLACE.
Robert D — Google review
This could be a really great little waterpark but needs a little work. First, they need a better more efficient process for cleaning the pool when there is a "UFO"- it would shut both pools down for ~45 mins. Second, the staff needs a little more supervision. The staff is almost exclusively high schoolers, and the food from the concession stand took over 30 mins and was cold. My kids still had fun.
Ann S — Google review
This us a great place to cool off with your kids. Lots of water play areas, fountains, and a really cool water slide. The lifeguards there are constantly watching the kids. One kid started struggling staying above water while we were there and the lifeguard jumped into action very quickly. I was impressed. Not expensive and we could have stayed there all day. Definitely worth checking out!

Located just 2 km from Charleston's city center, The Best Friend Train Museum is a must-visit attraction for history enthusiasts and families. Originally built in 1820, this museum showcases the iconic Best Friend train through various sections including a stand-up locomotive engine, wood-burning car, and wooden passenger cars. Visitors can explore wall posters, paintings, and train miniatures from the 1820s era. The museum also offers insights into the train's history and rail history.
There's a secret about this particular incarnation of the iconic first American steam locomotive, which doesn't appear in any of the nearby informative placards, and requires you to ask the right question in order to 'unlock' it. Asking the right question, in turn, is predicated on noticing something unusual about the tender car. Go find out! It's pretty interesting. My only regret is that I had no cash on hand in order to make a donation. Maybe I could have done so with a credit card, but it didn't occur to me until later, and I've felt rude about it since.
Joshua E — Google review
This is a single long room with a reproduction of the first train and tracks built in Charleston in 1830 you can visit for free. There are information placards around the train and on the walls about how it was built and operated. There is coloring. There are photos of the key railroad buildings from the past centuries. There are bathrooms. You could see and read everything in 30 minutes, though my kids spent a little over an hour enjoying it. There is an attendant you can ask questions of. Recommended for a quick stop next to the children's museum!

Did a 9 year old laser tag party and it was good. 1 hour laser tag, 30 min party with pizza. The "course" could be a bit more creative with different obstacles and structures. This was compensated by the "MC" who essentially runs the kids through different scenarios, games, and serves as referee. The laser guns are really cool and programmed remotely by the MC for the different games. It was very chill and a nice alternative to the trampoline places and arcades.

Went to this spot in August and had a great time with family friends. It was my best friend's and goddaughter's 1st time going. I must say they loved their experience. It was scary for my goddaughter at first trying to get through some of them but with some amazing coaching she went through every obstacle. We never once felt like we were holding other people up. So many directions to go..Staff did a great job on showing use proper way to use the equipment. Definitely a spot for all age groups

We had an amazing time at WBR! My six year old and I did the challengers course, and while some of them were difficult, we still had a great time and did our best. I liked that we had the option to choose which ones we wanted to go on, because a couple of them my six year old (and I lol) weren’t super comfortable going across. He slipped one time and got a little spooked, and the staff at WBR was awesome. They had someone on the ground talking him through it, and had another person come up and went out on the course to help him back up and across. The entire staff was super helpful, encouraging, gave everyone reminders to take breaks and drink water (it was cloudy, but still hot and humid), all around we had so much fun. 10/10 would go again!

The BEST birthday location in Charleston! They take care of everything but the cake and it’s such a relaxed and fun environment for kids and parents alike! Their customer service is top notch, and their staff is knowledgeable, encouraging, and compassionate. We will be back, again and again!

My group of 17 had a great time trying out the high ropes course for the first time. The staff was incredibly patient and kind, making our experience fantastic. We're looking forward to coming back again.

I was in Wild Dunes on Isle of Palm for a hot, hot week without a rental car. We took a few cabs into Charleston for a carriage ride and other things but after days in the pool and ocean my son asked for something else to do and we found this Wild Blue Ropes Adventure Park on Mommypoppins. It was fantastic. The safety system is top notch. The multi-level, multisegmental layout was was easy to navigate and we started on the easy course and advanced to the intermediate course and even tried a few of the advanced obstacles. I’ve been on many courses like this and, frequently, l the entrance and the exit are the same place (boring!) or there is a single path from start to finish ending at a ladder or, if you’re lucky, a zip line. But this course has multiple exit points from multiple levels using an auto-belay which was a great way to go to ground and start over frequently. It was hot and we only stayed on the course for 90 minutes but we had a ball.

Library
The Charleston County Public Library - Main Library is a fantastic destination for families with children, offering engaging and educational activities such as Babygarten, Baby Story Time, and Story Time for toddlers and pre-schoolers. Additionally, members can borrow a story time Kit to Go for at-home enjoyment. For book lovers, the library's Bookmobile makes regular visits to Freshfields Village. The main branch also provides a peaceful environment for research or leisure reading, boasting an extensive collection of resources and accommodating staff.
I was so pleased to see a LGBTQ display for National Pride Month. Teens especially are subject to hate from different groups that deny or belittle their existence and the Charleston Public Library is publicly valuing and celebrating people that belong to the community. I think it’s a great way to begin conversations with your own child about families looking different and that being normal. Thank you!!!

I absolutely love this library. I just wish it wasn't so far away from where I live. It's so unique .. I'm obsessed with the free book area / buy books area that are needing a "new home." I also love that there's a parking garage for the library, so I don't have to pay for parking like everywhere else in downtown.

Charleston County Library: No Reading Challenge for the children to read during Christmas break 2024 this year. Why not? I called the main library and was told that the library was taking a two week break from programs this Christmas. This is your job. You get the holidays off completely without going in to work. When you do not get a government holiday and are supposed to be working, then work 100 percent. What about the children? Our tax money pays for the county library. The Christmas break Reading Challenge was one that the children simply logged the books they read each day online and received prizes for reading. You couldn't handle that!? How disappointing for children who enjoyed reading and the encouragement received by the librarians. Lazy Charleston County Library and an example of our money not at work.

The library is amazing, and has such a variety of books. Manga, Informational text, it's all in there. I would really recommend going here!
Koby B — Google review
Denied use of one of the many empty computers because I didn’t have my ID. That’s fine. I will not pay my taxes so long as there is a Charleston county public library line item on the bill. Perhaps my native South Carolina accent, led them to believe that I do not live in this area. The librarian was very nice. The public sector is Orwellian.

Wonderful free used books from which to choose! Very helpful staff. History and modern combined.

Excellent choice for research, huge reference center and computer lab; has a "technology classroom" and federal grant software, programming for job search and resume or interviewing workshops, a lot of community education programs on the calendar--> usually posted to their website, can find tons of information online

This is the place where all true adventures begin in a good book the book I've been studying lately is called the secret and it's all about buried treasure and it just so happens that one of the buried treasures are here in Charleston and the best thing about libraries is they have everything u need to find it such as old maps and a reference section for information about the city so if ur looking for some adventure go visit ur local library

Hi. I'm Walter. Ashby is very knowlegdable and took us to a great fosdil site found carchcaradon antigustens (the megalodon ancestor about 7 teeth) and even found a juvenile megalodon tooth. A+ rating. Highly recommend. He was also very conscious of the weather and we departed well before the storm hit. You have to look closely for incongruities in the stones to see the teeth. Takes a trained eye.

My husband & I walked the beach with Ashby on his Folly Beach tour. Wow!!! He taught us what characteristics to look for in the sand and low and behold we found more shark teeth then I have ever found at once. Best of all we found really unique pieces I wouldn't have been able to identify without his help like mammoth tooth and bones. Ashby is a natural educator and really explained what we were finding. Every one in our group found special items. We can't wait to take our son with us next time and every time we visit in the future.

My girlfriend and I went on the fossil finder package tour and in just those 3 hours we found 188 shark teeth between the 2 of us! Ashby and Dr. Bobby were very knowledgeable and the overall trip was a great experience and well worth the money! We will definitely be booking another tour the next time we're in Charleston!
Skyler V — Google review
Fantastic experience!!! Ashby was personable, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his work. Would definitely recommend if you are visiting Charleston.

I had the greatest adventure with Mike. We kayaked out to an island and he helped us find a huge amount of shark teeth and fossils. Everything from from shark vertebrae, dolphin and whale bones, shark teeth (Snaggletooth, Angi, Lemon, Hammerhead, Mako, and more), ice age specimens such as deer and mammoth, sting ray teeth, turtle shell, a barracuda fish skull, and more! It was amazing. Mike made my first time kayaking easy. And after the adventure Mike identified all the fossils for us! Here are pics of my two favorites from the trip.

AMAZING....ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Ashby knows what he's talking about. Very educated in the world of fossils...highly recommended! We will be coming back!

My family and I decided to do a “staycation” and do some of the more touristy Charleston activities. This was such an amazing and memorable experience, I can’t recommend it enough. Ashby was amazing! Before we went he gave us some history about Charleston and the fossils we may find and after our trip he sat and talked about each and every piece we found and why it was significant. Such a genuine guy, you can tell he is doing what he loves. I’ll definitely be back and I’ve mentioned him to every friend I have.

My husband and I went on a fossil hunting trip with Ashby in April 2023. We enjoyed the trip so much that we took my Mom this October! She loved it! Ashby makes the trip so enjoyable. Aside from the fact that he can identify all fossils and gives you all sorts of interesting facts specific to the fossils you locate, he is also just a pleasure to be around! We look forward to scheduling our next trip with Charleston Fossil Adventures - possibly a sunset cruise and fossil hunt??? Who knows! But we are already greatly looking forward to trip #3!
Crystal T — Google review
Ashby led our 3 island, 6 hour expedition. We learned prehistoric history of the Charleston area, the types of sea creatures that left us these fossils and how long ago they existed. The boat was shady and comfortable. It shows that he has been doing this for a long time and it is lifelong passion. He coached us on finding fossils, shapes to look for, even guiding us to areas to sharpen our fossil spotting skills to find ones he already saw in the area. That was fun and helpful. The final hour of our expedition was a review of our finds which he allowed us to video so we have a record of the trip we can review. Overall, this was an outstanding experience and I give it my highest compliments. Be sure to follow the guidance for being the right type of shoes and water to stay hydrated. Charleston is hot and you do expend lots of energy. Many thanks to Ashby!!!

My wife and I did a 1.5hr tour with Ashby and it was probably the highlight of our entire vacation. We booked a morning tour during the week and lucked out that we were the only ones that booked that time slot. It is next level to hunt for fossils and shark teeth with an actual paleontologist. He was great at training us how to find shark teeth and fossils and we were able to get everything identified right on the spot. In the intertidal zone new fossils are uncovered daily no digging required. We found many teeth and bones. Bonus finds were live crabs and the friendly dolphin! My wife found a periotic bone which was from an extinct echolocating dolphin. Ashby was very excited and we ended up donating it to the Mace Brown Museum of Natural history in Charleston for further study. If you have any reservations about booking just DO IT. It's fun for all ages and you will not find a better more enthusiastic/passionate guide. Next time I am in Charleston I will definitely book again!

Nestled in a serene grassy park area near Charleston Harbor, the Cold War Submarine Memorial stands as a tribute to the brave submariners who served during the tense years of the Cold War from 1947 to 1989. This unique memorial is designed to resemble the sail and rudder of the USS Lewis and Clark SSBN 644, symbolizing not only the valor of those who manned these vessels but also honoring civilians and military personnel whose unwavering support was crucial for mission success.
Nice tribute to Submariners. The grounds are well maintained. Vehicle parking you will need to park on side of road. Or at the ball field next to site.

Located on Charleston Harbor, the Cold War Submarine Memorial stands as an enduring tribute to the dedicated men who served in our submarines during this unique and dangerous period in our nation's history; to their families who remained behind and managed alone at home during their long absences; and to the men and women, both civilian and military, who provided the superb support that assured the remarkable success of their missions. One corner of Patriot’s Point that you may not have noticed at first is the Cold War Memorial. Its design, size, and sheer emotion will move you beyond words. The monument is a Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine rising from under the ground beside the highway. It is breathtaking. The monument’s design placed the sail and rudder of the USS Louis and Clark where they would be on the submarine. This gives a unique perspective of the sheer size of the boat. Around the site is a walking trail with educational stations to pay homage to the sacrifice and risk these men took.

My husband and I went to this amazing place and we enjoyed it tremendously. This is an absolute beautiful memorial. I will definitely be coming back here to view this beautiful place.

Thank You, Thank You, to all the men of the silent service. I would put this memorial in my top 10 because it is a thoughtful work of art. What these sailors did to keep the peace will never be truly known. I thank them for keeping the other side in check. A must visit for any persons who have uttered the words thank you for your service to any military member. Clean and shaded, but no bathrooms.
Robert W — Google review
I guess since they lost the display sub this is what they do now here. From 100 foot away it looks like a sub surfacing through the grass. Get close and you see the concrete. I went to the point expecting to see a real submarine along with the carrier and destroyer. Had no idea the sub sunk and was towed away.
Vance W — Google review
Was looking forward to learning about the submarines but found little information. The park has more information about the war and the heros than on the submarines. There are many benches and stone tables dedicated to the heros that fought in the wars. There is a mound that looks like a submarine and 2 pieces of the tops of a real submarine. I would have loved to know what they came off and if the mounds were a life-size replica of submarine. The information stands are in need of updating, they are fading and peeling. I feel like this place just needs a little love and sprucing up. If you are in the area, come check it out.
Christopher D — Google review
Benches for Submarines of the Cold War Era. The George W Carver crew raised money and placed a bench in the park. We've had 2 impromptu reunions there and a memorial service for those shipmates who have passed since our last full reunion. There are many benches there now. A beautiful place to reflect on times and memories of that era.
Neal S — Google review
A really neat little park. Not exactly easy to get to or near anything. It's a walk across the parking lot from the Yorktown. The benches are dedicated to all of the different submarine crews.
