Cango Wildlife Ranch, located just 3km outside the charming town of Oudtshoorn, is a renowned wildlife conservation park and a popular tourist attraction. It offers visitors the opportunity to interact with and observe a variety of unique and endangered animals. The ranch is considered one of the best conservation institutions globally and is a must-visit while exploring Route 62 or the Garden Route. This is a place not to miss if you enjoy wildlife. The staff is always friendly and helpful and it’s a Great way to see wildlife for the kiddos up close while being able to enjoy the restaurant. Which btw the lady’s at the restaurant made for us so graciously although they were still busy setting up. Thank you.

Professionally run, nice landscaping, easy paths and above all, a wonderful guided tour to learn more about the animals. Our guide Jonathan is enthusiastic and friendly. I chose the Leopard encounter and it was very special. Never saw a leopard so close before and she looked very pleased and healthy. Do support this ranch and the good work they do.

Cango Wildlife Ranch, Oudtshoorn What started as a pleasant morning turned into an unforgettable wildlife adventure at Cango Wildlife Ranch. My family and I chose the self-guided tour option, which gave us the perfect pace to truly absorb the breathtaking scenery and immerse ourselves in learning about each fascinating species. Despite it being a quieter day at the ranch, this actually enhanced our experience. The peaceful atmosphere allowed us to connect more deeply with the animals and their stories. The absolute highlight was our lemur encounter – an experience that exceeded all expectations. Our guides were exceptional: knowledgeable, passionate, and incredibly well-prepared. They shared captivating insights about lemur behavior, dietary needs, and the ranch's outstanding commitment to animal welfare and conservation. What impressed me most was witnessing firsthand how well-cared for all the animals are. The dedication to their wellbeing was evident throughout our visit. The ranch is wonderfully family-friendly, offering something for everyone. The kids can enjoy the playground, while the adults appreciated browsing the gift shop and enjoying a delicious meal at one of the two on-site restaurants. Cango Wildlife Ranch delivers an perfect blend of education, conservation, and pure joy. Highly recommended for families seeking a meaningful wildlife experience!

We had a wonderful experience at Cango Wildlife Range. The enclosures are well kept and the staff do their best to make the visitors feel comfortable as well as the animals. A special thank you to our amazing tour guide, Themba!!!

Where else can you pet a baby cheetah or feed a huge lion?? This place is AMAZING!! Definitely get the nectar for the birds, they love it! I would 100% recommend this to foreigners and people with children. The interaction part sets this place apart from other similar experiences. P.S. The Lemars can urinate on you

The tour was nice, not that wow but ok. Not alot of information on the animals for a adult. On the other side, the kids loved it and they've enjoyed the kids play area.Im my opinion the Ranch are well maintained, clean with no bad smells. Will definitely visit again when my kids are bigger.

Overall great family experience. The staff goes above and beyond to provide a good experience while putting animal welfare first. They also serve as an animal sanctuary so we were happy to spend our money there. Pricing is very affordable anyway. Special shoutout to Jowellen and Matthew who assisted us during the wildlife encounters and were very professional and knowledgeable. Our tour guide Runicka was so sweet and fun. Our kids (8 and 3yo)loved it, definitely would come back. We happily adopted the leopard Nanji.

Cango Wildlife Ranch is an absolute gem and a must-see destination for anyone visiting the area! The experience was nothing short of amazing, with the highlight undoubtedly being the thrilling crocodile cage diving – a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that left us in awe. The service was exceptional throughout, and we received outstanding assistance from a gentleman at the till at Monsoon Restaurant. His warm demeanor and professionalism truly stood out, adding to the overall fantastic experience. Even the car guards were incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a positive and safe atmosphere from start to finish. From the breathtaking wildlife encounters to the impeccable service, Cango Wildlife Ranch exceeded all expectations. Highly recommended for tourists and locals alike – it’s a destination not to be missed!

Highgate Ostrich Show Farm is one of the popular ostrich farms in Oudtshoorn, South Africa. It offers tours where visitors can enjoy tractor rides or guided walks into the fields, hand-feed ostriches, and view incubators where eggs are hatched. The farm also provides opportunities to interact with cute ostrich chicks during the breeding season. Additionally, guests can learn about these long-legged creatures and their habits while enjoying an educational tour with some hands-on experiences.
Highgate Ostrich Farm is an amazing place to visit! The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The guided tour was fun and informative, giving us great insight into ostriches. The lunch was fantastic and definitely a must. I highly recommend this experience for a unique and enjoyable day out.
Alichia B — Google review
We had a great time on the tour. Our guide shared lots of interesting information about ostrich farming and made sure we were having fun. We also had the chance to feed them and play with baby ostriches. There’s also a restaurant serving ostrich dishes and a nice souvenir shop.
Madalina D — Google review
What a great experience! From the moment we arrived, we were greated with welcoming smiles and excellent service. Tour is very interesting - we thought we knew about ostriches but there was so much we learnt! Our guide, Hermes, was very knowledgeable and entertaining, and took the time to ensure everyone got an opportunity to capture unique photos or videos. Easy walking, safe parking, lovely spot to have a drink under the trees before the tour and an interesting gift shop to finish off afterwards. Great value for money - would highly recommend (and not just for international visitors). Thank you so much for an awesome time!

History Museums
The C.P Nel Museum, located in the heart of Oudtshoorn, South Africa, is a captivating local history museum housed in the former Boys High School. This sprawling museum showcases the rich history of Oudtshoorn, with exhibits on the ostrich trade and life in the Victorian and early 20th century.
Quick Takeaways • 🕰️ Fascinating museum housed in an old school building • 🦩 Focuses on the ostrich trade and local history • 💸 Entry is 100 rand for international visitors • 🚗 Easy on-road parking and good accessibility • 👏 Friendly staff, detailed displays, and well-curated exhibits • 💎 An underrated gem — highly recommended ⸻ 🏛️ Full Review The museum is situated within an old school building almost in the centre of town. It opens at 8 a.m. and costs 100 rand for international visitors. There’s on-road parking available, which is easy to find, and access to the museum is straightforward. The layout is simple to follow, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The museum focuses on the ostrich trade — once the backbone of the region’s economy — as well as the origins and development of the town right through to the mid-1990s. The displays are excellent, featuring period items arranged in realistic, atmospheric settings. I especially liked the recreated Victorian-era shop fronts — they really bring the history to life. The museum is spread across a few buildings with a small outdoor area. The exterior space isn’t used much, apart from housing memorials to the Boer War and Polish orphans. It’s a shame that this museum is probably overlooked by many passing tourists, as it does a fantastic job of telling the town’s story. I thoroughly recommend visiting — it’s well worth your time.
MilPoPo — Google review
The museum was nice to visit. A bit expensive though. Interesting to see and read all the history regarding Oudtshoorn. There was definitely "something" (or "someone") else in one of the rooms.
Elouise Z — Google review
We had quite an adventurous trip to Oudtshoorn, enduring misty conditions on our drive through Robinson Pass, which obscured the scenic vistas, but we pressed on. Our stay at The Old Mill Lodge, just outside Oudtshoorn, left us thoroughly impressed, with the soothing sound of the river and the stunning natural beauty around us. The next morning, brimming with energy, we ventured into Oudtshoorn and were, despite the persistent rain, immediately captivated and enthused by the charming old sandstone buildings that lined the streets. It promised to be an incredible experience and indeed it was.
DustBugs T — Google review
Very informative museum located in the first high school in Oudtshoorn. The museum has displays from the San era to arrival of settlers to apartheid years and independence. Displays are well documented. Emphasis is on the years of the various "Ostrich Booms".
David Z — Google review
Very interesting museum has a lot of exhibits. Hopefully more people visit this museum and bring it more support. I was surprised that there is an entrance fee, but I do accept also that in this day and age it takes a lot more money to keep the doors open.
Donald R — Google review
The stars are for the excellent museum content only. Lacklustre staff, absent curator. We went on National museum day and there was nothing done to celebrate the day. We were the only visitors for the whole of the morning. Couldn't receive info on Friends of the museum, even drove back next day trying. Staff needs to be reminded there's more to keep a museum alive than some outings to schools and a speech competition. The right staff appointed could make this a golden must visit for tourists.

Lazy staff, absent curator, DIRTY. The place smelled and needs urgent cleaning. Most of the rooms and the old school hall was locked. We reported the issues but received a VERY rude answer back from the museum manager. AND BTW THEY ASK R100 for no tour, no engagement at all.

Safari Ostrich Farm is a long-standing family-owned establishment that spans 1,800 hectares and offers guided tractor tours, a gift shop, and a cafe. Founded in 1956 as an educational site about ostriches, the farm has transformed into a popular attraction while still staying true to its original mission.
It was a really great experience. We had a lot of fun on the safari tour. The guide was friendly and shared interesting facts about ostriches. We were able to take lots of amazing pictures. Feeding the ostriches was a real highlight. The facility itself is very clean. There’s a great playground and an on-site restaurant with plenty of seating.

Fantastic experience. Great tour guide. Lovely place. Clean and well maintained tractors that you ride on. Its a must for a family outing. Also not expensive to visit and enjoy. 100stars for all involved.
Askmonique S — Google review
★★★★☆ Interesting experience, but expected a bit more It was a nice visit to the Safari Ostrich Farm and definitely interesting to learn about the history of ostriches in South Africa — especially that they originally came from Asia. The tour was informative and well-organized by Samuel and seeing the birds up close was a unique experience. However, I expected a bit more in terms of interactivity or size. Still, worth a stop if you’re in the area and curious about these fascinating animals.
Hachim — Google review
Nice experience. We get a guided tour of the farm in a tractor trailer , while the guide gave us explanations about ostriches. There is a big space where the birds are sitting, a small exchibition and a shop and a restaurant where we ordered ostrich stake. There is a big parking place, in the yard. There is a schedule of groups visits. You can buy food in the shop and feed the ostriches directly from the car.
Mihaela C — Google review
Great place to see, feed and learn all about ostriches. Partly walking partly on the back of a tractor trailor. Knowledgeable staff and well organised tour. But use up your feed ( which you can buy for 5 rand) on the tractor your. The ostriches will come up to you to eat, very messily. Great opportunity for photo or videos up closer. Great information about ostriches which I won't spoil here, but you will be surprised and even amazed. Just could do with a bit more guidance for guests in how and when to use the feed.
Andrew S — Google review
Enjoyable and informative tour to Safari Ostrich Farm. Didn't know a lot about Ostrichs but after the guided tractor tour into the paddock and museum with Bronwin we came out knowing a lot more. Make no mistake, Ostrichs are HUGE! Only when they run up to the tractor and tower over you do you get an idea of their size. They are inquisitive birds but feed them at your own risk! I bought a bucket of food for R5 and they came running to eat. Their coordination isnt so great and in their frenzy one bit my thumb (im ok), food went everywhere and another snatched the bucket by the handle and out of the tractor it went. We drove slowly through various paddocks then got out to walk and see emus and ostriches from the safety of behind fences. We finished up in a museum showing various anatomy displays, incubators, leather and feather making processes. Bronwin was great! He had a very easy listening voice and was very knowledgable. There is a large giftshop onsite selling a wide variety of goods including ostrich leather articles, painted eggs, egg lights etc. The cafe onsite has light meals and ostrich biltong for sale. See cafe review for food review.
Timeshare C — Google review
The tours start on the hour every hour unless it is raining. Fantastic tour to learn all about the Ostrich. The facility have all what your require. Resturant/Cafe, rest room, souvenir shop etc. The staff are fantastic. Big recommendations for a family activity.
Hasan A — Google review
It was very interresting, learned about the Kenya Ostrich with pink legs and neck there are only 88 in the world of which 8 was on this farm, fed the ostriches from a small bucket, they luved eating it from the bucket and come close to us. The guide was very friendly and professional. He answered all our questions and even assisted us with taking photos. I even stood on ostrich eggs. We paid a pensioner rate. It was worthwhile to stop and visit this farm and is highly recommemded.

Festival
If you're planning a visit to Oudtshoorn in April, don't miss the vibrant Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees, also known as the Small Karoo National Arts Festival. This nine-day celebration is a delightful showcase of South African music, culture, and cuisine. Attendees can explore art galleries and craft markets while enjoying performances from both local and international artists across various venues.
Out of a vendor perspective, this is such a great festival to trade at! From beginning to end we were so well taken care of, security making their rounds 24/7 and KKNK organizers working so effortlessly to make sure we are okay. Driving this far out of Pretoria and receiving such service, makes our whole experience worth it. Well done KKNK, we cannot wait to meet again in 2020.
Charné L — Google review
Huge disappointment. We visited a few years back, and the festival had a much bigger vibe and ambiance. Everything is centered around the feesterrein, where they provided ample seats for food and drinks. The market shops were extremely disappointing, and we expected way more different food stalls.
Roxy J — Google review
Was there the weekend the first time ever and now I can say have done it got the t shirt cause I dont need to come back again - yes its great to go see a show or event but to pay R 150 to see flea market stalls is not for me - thx

All the way from Cape Town to a festival with absolutely nothing. Patrons staying in the same guesthouse came as far as Pretoria. Booked in for the week. Attened the festival and left the next day whilst booked in for the entire week.waiste of money and time. Will never recommend the festival to anybody.
Marion J — Google review
I have been a regular visitor to the KKNK, but this year was an utter disappointment for us as a family. I believe the shows were of good standard, but the rest that was available for families and visitors were of a low standard. I picked up the same sentiment with other loyal visitors as well. Unfortunately the KKNK wont see me for many years to come, its not remotely a shadow of what it can be and what we are used to. Sorry!
BNWest — Google review
Our 5th visit. We have enjoyed again with some good shows for all and other things to do. 1st time at new venue and I feel some of the ambiance of the old site lost.

A few kilometers off of Oudtshoorn. Perfect if you want to do the meerkat adventures (only 10min away) Very quiet and big land with a Giraffe and some other animals roaming freely. Their service was fine but their management Nicollet was not friendly at all How can she tell us we must not make noise because her animals are not used to noise but we paid for everything she must learn to treat the customers equally or is it because we are black not white as her, black people also pay the same amount as the whites so she must not be like that . Thank you

It is now our second time to spend a long weekend at the venue and it is one of our favourite places to escape the hustle and bustle and simply relax. The views our stunning, and the farm is so well kept. Charlene and her team were incredible, and went the extra mile for us. What I also love is the fact that you go on long walks while your kid rides the bike, and you get that 'bush feeling' where you connect with nature, and put technology away for a few days. Such a great place!

Rural farm visit with ostrich feeding & petting, incubator tours & a chance to see chicks in season.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Cango Ostrich Farm. The guided tour was very informative. We got to learn about ostriches, their breeding cycle, ostrich eggs, as well as emus and emu eggs. The hands-on experiences with the ostriches were lovely. The children in our group were allowed to go into the enclosure with two pygmy ostriches. Anyone who wanted to could stand on a clutch of ostrich eggs to see how strong their shells are, and we had the opportunity to feed them. Our guide was super! Informative and entertaining, and because he has worked with ostriches for many years, he could share anecdotal experiences The curio shop was well-stocked with some really lovely things. We bought a few empty ostrich eggs.

Wonderful experience with knowledgeable local guide! Friendly residents who eat all the grains from your bucket and give you a neck massage in return!
Fleur C — Google review
You may learn a lot about these fantastic and a little bit stupid guys here- a neck massage included! Go for a visit- it‘s really nice!
Jurgis P — Google review
The host was amazing, we had good laughs. She makes you feel welcome. The tour was SLIGHTLY shorter than expected. She can spend little bit more time around the camps for people to take a walk and photos. Otherwise the experience was amazing and feeding the ostriches an absolute blast
Bianca V — Google review
I really enjoyed this place. The highlight for me was the tour guide and amazing ostrich panini .The gentleman tour guide was so informative, friendly, people orientated, just overall brilliant. The tour takes around 30-40 minutes and there are not many ostriches on display in the begining, 2 miniature ostriches, 2 emus, 2 big ostriches and 1 in heat. You then walk to the larger enclosure where you can get up close and personal but only one at a time.An ostrich massage is included in your ticket price (Voluntary). You hold a bucket in front of you and the ostriches attempt to eat the food over your shoulder rubbing against your neck.Don't expect calming background music to be playing while you get the massage. You can sense the tour guide loves his job and his explanation of the breeding and reviewing fertile eggs was interesting. You also get an opportunity to stand on an egg.Once you have completed the tour, bought souvenir and had a bite to eat, there is not much else to do.No walking paths and you are not able to walk through on your own.

Worth the stop, great experience with a very energetic and knowledgeable guide.
Alzette G — Google review
Due to having guided tours you may need to wait a few minutes before being allowed to enter. However this is well worth it as the guides are very knowledgeable and you get the chance to feed the ostriches, including feeding multiple ones from a bucket and one on its own directly from your hand. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would love to go again in the future.

Popped in for a quick bite after the caves. Clean and neat. Ideal for those with kids. The restaurant is self-service (ordering the food) and the delivery to your table is jiffy. It's a system that works. The waitress was friendly and accommodating and the meals were very affordable. Us locals appreciate that.
Tracy G — Google review
Such a cute place for the kids. A lot of activities to choose from at an extra cost. Tables outside was a bit wobbly but that's actually the only reason I cant give 5 stars. Self service at the restaurant works well. Perfect for day visit or quick stop to stretch legs on a long trip.

Lovely 'oasis' in Oudtshoorn. Wouldve loved it more if there were swimming pool for Adults. Food was exceptionally fast, from the time an order was placed to recieving the meal. Kids enjoyed the activities like camel riding, paddle boats, feeding the animals and making use if the slides. Trampolines, and Grounds could use some general maintenance though.

We made a quick stop at the Wilgewandel farm, and it was adorable! There were lots of fun activities to do. The shop had many interesting things to check out. We even got to spend some time with camels, which was really cool. It’s a great little stop on your journey that I would definitely recommend!

Visited with my kids, because I spent time here as a child, 10-15 years ago. Not much has changed, and not in a good way. The place needs some love, and the food needs some improvement (and real chutney and tomato sauce)
Shannon S — Google review
I had an amazing time. The activities got me feeling like a kid again. It was a perfect addition to my birthday weekend. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The camel ride was my favorite. They brought the desert to the Karoo. I will definitely go back soon.

We, a group of 9 people, had brunch at Wilgewandel. The chicken tramezzinis were delicious. Service was quick and efficient. Pleasant view of the dam, birds and camels from the veranda. Thank you.

Absolutely love the place, so serene well maintained awesome service! Just love the idea with the locks, as I travel a lot and have placed locks every where I go of loved one that has passed away ❤️ Food amazing love my Chocochino and cake!

De Zeekoe is a charming upscale lodge nestled in the picturesque Oudtshoorn region, offering a delightful mix of refined accommodations including rooms, cabins, and cottages. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the cozy two-bedroom timber cabins located by a bird-filled dam, perfect for those seeking solitude. While these self-catering options provide privacy, guests can also enjoy the on-site restaurant and refreshing saltwater pool just minutes away. The lodge features modern amenities with luxury rooms that offer great value amidst stunning mountain views.
Had a very nice 1 night stay here in the honeymoon suite in early September. Large room with 4 poster bed and heated blanket as was cold early september. Spacious modern and what looked like a newly refurbed bathroom. The views are just spectacular around the farm. Hotel team were very warm and welcoming. The meerkat tour was a real highlight as well. Only slight negatives were the food offerings with quite a limited menu which was good but nothing special and when we came back from the meerkat tour the leftovers looked a mess even though we could ask for fresh eggs etc. Also recommend and even though whilst free they repair/replace their bikes which are very old. Brakes and gears barely worked. Shame as if they were decent would have cycled far further. Overall though we would definitely come back.

We had the best stay here we could wish for. Check-in was swift and super friendly. Rooms were immaculate! Cozy bedroom with the most comfortable bed and mosquito net, beautiful bathroom with full bath, shower and separate toilet. Stunner of a balcony! Pool is a bit chilly, but wonderful views all around and plenty of comfortable sunbeds. Dinner was lovely, again - super friendly staff and tasty courses. Meerkat tour nearby is on the property of the Zeekoe so you get a nice discount for booking the activity through them which is an absolute must - these guys are just too cute to miss.

It's in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful nowhere. Lovely well appointed rooms. Great views/ grounds. I love the swing on my deck and just listening to nature. Love also that they are trying to be sustainable/use local products. The buildings are lovely. Especially like the liquor that is in the room. Not sure what it is exactly but it's good!! Also book the Meerkats!

Excellent property, very well appointed rooms and very friendly staff. I couldn’t believe that the property is 20 years old, and it has obviously been very well maintained. There is a lovely lawn at the back with a giant fireplace and a well stocked bar. Check in smooth and through a computer where you enter your particulars. We were taken on a guided tour and shown our rooms. One person in our group promised the host to return with his family, that’s his much he liked it. I agree too and may do the same!
Shantanu G — Google review
Nicely presented rooms and great service. Theo was very helpful with his advice on the area and the Meerkat Experience we were doing at dawn the following day. Unfortunately only stayed one night - would definitely stay again.
Alan B — Google review
Lovely stay. Nice accommodations and friendly staff. Breakfast was good but we got bit unlucky with underwhelming dinner on one of the two nights. Stargazing price pp was very expensive for amateurish experience.
Sophia M — Google review
What a gem in the middle of the Klien Karoo. Beautiful rooms that offer nice views over the fields. Staff went above and beyond in terms of service. Excellent place and a wonderful stay
Andrei P — Google review
Thought this place was fab for a stopover especially if you are doing the meerkat tour (which I would also highly recommend). It was affordable as well and staff were kind.
