Restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant Salamanca Place, Ball & Chain Grill is a culinary gem that beautifully marries history with modern dining. Housed in a historic sandstone building once constructed by chain gangs, this restaurant specializes in expertly grilled steak and seafood over an authentic charcoal fire. The menu features an impressive selection of premium cuts, all aged on-site to ensure maximum flavor.
I had the pleasure of dining at Ball & Chain Grill in Hobart and was thoroughly impressed. I ordered the Pure Black Angus porterhouse steak from the specials menu, and it was exceptional — perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavour. It came with a generous serving of potato gratin and seasonal vegetables, which complemented the dish beautifully. I opted for the mushroom and bacon sauce, which added a rich, savoury touch without overpowering the steak. The atmosphere was delightful — calm, cozy, and ideal for a relaxed dinner. The service was also excellent, with friendly and attentive staff who made the experience all the more enjoyable. Highly recommended if you're after quality steaks and a welcoming dining experience in Hobart.

📍Ball & Chain Grill - Salamanca | Super popular steakhouse in Hobart’s historic district Apart from the soup of the day, which was just okay, everything else was absolutely delicious! The steaks were cooked perfectly, sides were well-balanced, and the flavors were unique and memorable. You can really taste the chef’s effort in every dish. It wasn’t just a good meal — it was a great experience overall. Everyone in our group loved it, and we were so glad we picked this place for dinner! The location is also a big bonus — right next to the famous Salamanca Place. After eating, we took a walk around the area, which is full of cool little shops, artsy vibes, and cute local stores. A perfect way to end the night. Super relaxing and enjoyable! ✅5 star would recommend!

Really amazing place for dinner. The steak and soup was amazing. Would highly recommend the steak as the potato gratin was really deliciious. We also got oysters which were great as well. We were visiting and decided to stop by because we were attracted to the decor. nice dimly lit atmosphere that made it very intimate and cozy. we went a bit before 6 and it started to get busy.

The Good: - Relatively affordable for a steakhouse. - Great cut of meat and the service was great - They also have dry aged, tomahawks and wagyus - They let us dine in the private dining room because of our large group - We ordered: 1. Kids Meal’s Steak & Chips - Delicious 100 gr Rump Steak for $15 2. Lamb Shank - Cooked very well and flavorful 3. Dry Aged Steak - One of our orders came out with the wrong doneness (see “The Bad” below) but the one that came out right were cooked beautifully 4. Rump Steak - Juicy, tender and charred so beautifully. The Bad: - Had to wait 25 minutes for all our food to come out I had ordered the Dry Aged Scotch Filet Rare but it came out a Hard Medium (very slight pink in the middle). I asked one of the servers to confirm for me whether that was correct and he insisted that at worst it was a Medium - Rare, but it was a definite rare. I pointed out that I am the only one who ordered rare on the table but mine came out cooked more than everyone else’s. Either my order came out wrong or everyone else’s is wrong. He again insisted mine was rare and since everybody was tired, we didn’t press the issue. But, this is what made me give it a 4 stars instead of a 5.

Service was excellent! Wine was delicious! Atmosphere was great! I left 4 stars not 5 as my hubby and I both had to add salt to our steak. (Steak loves salt!) Other then that the food was also very good. White chocolate cheesecake was definitely the pick for dessert 😍
Erica O — Google review
Worth it! On several local recommendations decided to give it a try and was definitely impressed. From the chowder to scotch fillet and eye fillet steak. All were well cooked and tasty. Service was very attentive and observant of individuals needs. Friendly atmosphere in a historic old building. Thank you for your care and great food.
Donna W — Google review
We had high hopes coming in after reading lots of reviews. Ordered the Porterhouse and the Scotch Fillet, medium rare for both, along with some sides. Even though the meat was red, and inside was juicy, the outer crust was somewhat tough and chewy. The Scotch was less flavourful than usually expected, but this was also the first and only time we have eaten here 🤷🏻‍♂️ The sides were done very well and the ambience and service was good too!

My wife and I had a great experience at Ball & Chain. From the rustic exposed timber beams to the stone walls and the great staff, not to mention the fantastic food. We had natural oysters followed by ribeye cooked over an open flame with great sides.

Restaurant
Landscape Restaurant & Grill draws inspiration from the natural beauty of Tasmania and the art of John Glover, offering a memorable dining experience. The restaurant showcases Tasmania's premium produce with reimagined classics and an ingredient-focused menu sourced from local farmers. Chef Oli Mellers, with experience from renowned chefs in London, cooks a variety of meat, seafood, and vegetables on a custom-made asado grill. The smoky flavors from the grill are infused into many dishes, particularly the Cape Grim steaks.
This was one of the very unique restaurants I have visited. They are designed as a restaurant within an art gallery displaying collections from Mr.John Glover. I made a reservation for dinner on 17th Apr and was warmly welcomed by their staffs. Everyone was professional in how they interact with the guests. Ordered a scotch fillet medium rare with pepperberry & coqnac sauce, pumpkin tempura, and Huon valley apple pie. All of the food were delicious and well prepared. Steak was super tender and their Asado grill gave it a special smokey scent to it. Pumpkin tempura was very crispy on the outside and very soft inside. The apple pie paired with R139 riesling (as suggested) was a great way to finish my last dinner for the holiday. Special thanks to Lucia who was very friendly and made the experience even more memorable. Should I ever get to visit Hobart again, this place will definitely be on the list.

Tried our luck with a walk-in and managed to get seated. The Eye Fillet was so good! Tender and juicy, literally melting in your mouth. We added some shaved truffle, but felt that it didn’t taste very strong. The potatoes were very tasty too. Service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was great!

Honestly the best experience I’ve had 4 years in Australia. In Sydney almost none of the restaurants have this kinda service! The waitress (Pauline) provided top notch customer service, smiling, very attentive to our needs and went above and beyond!! She treats all customers the same so you will have no problem with her! Steak although it took around 45mins, it was perfect, along with all the sides and desserts! The environment is quiet and easy to talk with well managed food service order! The time between courses are perfect for talking! Thank you for your wishes and service! You’ve made my graduation trip even better! Made my parents felt even more relaxed. Best value, best service, best food! Definitely should try this restaurant

We came here to celebrate my 25th birthday after searching for the best restaurants in Hobart, and Landscape was one of the top recommendations. Being big fans of SK Steak & Oyster in Brisbane, we were excited to try another fine-dining, high-end steakhouse experience while visiting Tasmania. For entrées, we ordered the kingfish sashimi and the calamari. The calamari was the hidden gem—definitely not your usual fried dish, but something elevated and full of flavour, with a chef’s creative touch. For mains, I had the Wagyu 9+ Robbins Island eye fillet ($120) and it was absolutely worth every bite—rich, juicy, and beautifully cooked. We also had the blue eye trevalla, which was tender, perfectly prepared, and paired with an incredible sauce. The green special salad made a great side, but the real standout at the end was dessert—the apple tart was the perfect final touch. The wine collection was also outstanding, as you’d expect in Tasmania. Overall, we had an amazing evening. The food, service, and atmosphere all lived up to the reputation. Be prepared to spend a little—it’s definitely on the premium side—but if you want to treat yourself to a special dining experience, this place is well worth it. Highly recommend.

Our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we arrived, the service was polished yet warm. Each dish was delicious and beautifully presented. A truly outstanding fine dining experience that exceeded every expectation!

A fantastic modern Australian spot. The atmosphere is relaxed yet stylish, and the service from Pauline was friendly and attentive. The steak was the highlight — perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavour. Paired with fresh seasonal sides, it was outstanding. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great food and a welcoming dining experience

A curated dining experience from start to finish 👌🏻 Their steaks are cooked to a perfect medium-rare, complemented by unique, inventive sides like their pumpkin tempura, or staples like the crispy duck-fat potatoes. Their professional staff provide warm, genuine service and take great pride in their work 🙌🏻 It is a place everyone should try at least once while in Hobart!
Perry N — Google review
This restaurant was chosen for my birthday dinner today and it completely ruined the night. The food was below average from the start .. the bread was hard as a rock, the oyster was bland, and the octopus was tough and chewy. But the most unacceptable part was the pork cutlet, which was served undercooked and raw in the middle. Serving raw pork is a serious food safety hazard. Instead of apologising, staff tried to excuse it by saying it was “a different way of cooking” and that “the meat quality is good.” At the end, they waived the cost of the pork cutlet, but that cannot justify putting diners’ health at risk. My wine order was also forgotten and only offered later as “compensation,” along with two chocolates — token gestures that do nothing to fix unsafe food and poor service. For the high price and glowing reviews, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. It ruined what should have been a special birthday dinner, and I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Rockwall Bar and Grill is a stylish restaurant located near the CBD, offering a modern Australian dining experience in a charming setting with exposed sandstone walls and wooden beams. The menu features an impressive selection of grilled dishes, including the renowned Carpet Bag - a 250g eye fillet pocketed with oysters. Specializing in contemporary Australian cuisine, the restaurant uses fresh, locally sourced ingredients such as Tasmanian lobster and international delicacies like parmigiano reggiano.
A great place for a steak! We received excellent service from the staff at Rockwall, from the moment we walked in to the moment we left, the staff were friendly and polite. All the steaks that were ordered were medium rare, the steaks came out pretty close to perfect. The charring was delicious and the rendering of the fat was done well. I have no complaints about the service or food and consider it worth the price. I'll definitely visit Rockwall again when I'm in Hobart.

Food was world class, cooked perfectly, and delicious. Service was outstanding, made you feel welcome right from entering the door, until you left. Unfortunately we sat right by the kitchen, it was really hot all night. The staff tried to find another table, closer to the air con, but weren't able to. :-( I'll be happy to take friends there and show them how good the food is in Hobart. :-)

This is one of the popular restaurants in Hobart. We walked in without reservation at 5:30pm. It’s already fully booked. However, the staff has kindly find a table in front of the restaurant near bar for my family 4 of us. We enjoyed the Tasmania winter set menu very much. This is the best meal we had on our trip in Hobart. Highly recommended this restaurant!

I was here the other night and the food was absolutely delicious! I have never had anything so authentic and fresh! Definitely recommend if you want a good meal! Also the cocktails are great too.

For our last night in Tasmania before heading back to Queensland, we enjoyed dinner at this delightful restaurant. It was truly the topping on a fabulous week. We enjoyed the mixed plate of Bruny Island oysters, the apple cider battered fish, salt and pepper berry squid, Guinness and wagyu beef pie and The Burger. The menu has a good variety for every taste and the dessert and drinks menu is extensive.

The Black Footed Pig is a Spanish restaurant located in Hobart's waterfront area, offering a diverse menu that includes Mediterranean, Australian, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. The restaurant prides itself on using ethically sourced and sustainably grown local produce. With a passion for food and wine, the owners regularly update the menu to feature fresh dishes like lemon meringue and spiced honey parfait alongside specialty dessert wines from Spain.
I made last minute change in the restaurant and I cannot be more happy. Good food, good price and very good service. Lazi was amazing. The only feedback I have is there needs to be table lighting.

First dinner landed on Tassie. We arrived earlier than our booking, floor staff kindly welcomed us and offer us seats. We ordered ‘feed me’ options (like a omakase course) plus one wine pairing separated and one pineapple cocktail. The starters are raw fish, cured meat and bread. The raw fish are served with hummus, preserved fish (maybe anchovy?) - it’s fresh and savoury, which really lightened our tastes bud. White wine with nice acidity pairs well with the starters. Second course is chicken skewers and fried puff with cheese filling. The chicken thigh is cooked just right and very juicy. The main is lamb with green salad and baked potato. The lamb is tender and the sauce is nice. One slice comes with some raw fat, which is a bit chewy and lamby (but it is lamb) so not complaining. Another highlight of the night is the yummy basque, topped with honey or some syrup and the candied(?) cherry. The desert wine served with the silky slice finishes the night smoothly. Overall, we enjoyed the starter and desert more than the meats and main. The team on the floor is friendly and being professional to explain and introduce each course with their ingredients.

We got the beef cheek and wild mushroom paella to share - though the flavours were rich, the rice was just too salty for us. On the other hand the beef cheeks were not really seasoned, so together it balanced out somewhat. But towards the end we couldn’t finish the rice once all the meat was eaten. The duck and pork terrine was a nice starter, along with the bread and cultured butter. Overall a lovely intimate atmosphere, with good food and cocktails, but just needs some fine tuning!

Attentive staff, amazing food, great outlook and beautiful decor. I highly recommend the tasting menu. The proportions are perfect and the blend of tastes make the meal a true experience

This was a birthday dinner and it was so much more than we hoped for! The chefs journey through the menu was perfectly curated and the staff were excellent from start to finish.
Alison D — Google review
The food is well prepared and somehow, they leave a taste of familiarity and warmth - it feels homely and yet professional. I also love the sangria that is also spot on in terms of the combination of fruits and cocktail. Overall, a very memorable dinner and I would like to come back for more.
Lee T — Google review
We had chefs menu & wine pairing - $210 per head. New menu & chef - would not recommend. 1st course - Cured meat was lovely, arancini was cold by the time we waited for our wine pairing, & Brioche was burnt and dry. Second course was a raw fish with no taste (we were not advised what we were eating) and leek we struggled to cut through, little to no flavour. Third course a Mushroom rice dish - could not cut the mushroom and rice was bland. Fourth Dish was sliced pork which was over-cooked and tough and a salad leaves with no taste to the dressing. Fifth dish was a chef special of "strawberries and cream", we both absolutely love desserts and what we were served was not even palatable, the strawberries were sour and bitter and creme had no taste. Gave feedback to the staff and asked to be passed onto the chef. Have eaten in the venue 3 times in the past and loved the food. This experience was unfortunately the worst meal we have eaten out in Hobart and will not return.

The Astor Grill is a stylish Art Deco restaurant located in a historic 1920's building on Macquarie Street in Hobart. It offers modern Australian cuisine with a blend of contemporary and classic dishes, featuring the best quality local and mainland seasonal produce, including fresh seafood and prime Tasmanian meats. The menu changes to reflect the seasons and highlights exceptional-quality beef as well as vegetable and seafood-forward plates.
Excellent place for a nice meal. The beef was tender and juicy. The arancini and sweet potato & pumpkin were also delicious as sides. The truffle mushroom was kinda of miss for us. Service was good too.

Tried Astor Grill on our last night in Hobart and what an amazing place. Love the dark decor, service is attentive, and food is great. Two of us shared the oven baked scallops - so delicious, and a trio of the Wagyu arancini. These were very filling. For mains we had the 300g porterhouse (a perfect medium rare but perhaps the exterior is over seared and a little too charred) accompanied by grilled vegetables and roasted potatoey. A nice evening to round off a Hobart visit.
Mae N — Google review
We came in on a Friday night and we were si lucky to get a table for two. They seem very popular. Quite a posh place, everyone is dressed up, they have a classic interior, I think Italian style with proper table cloth, linen napkins and staff who takes your coat to hang and elevated service. The food look so good, very well presented, like ones you see on magazine and tv. And the taste of the food - very delicious, tasty, professionally done and all the good things I can say. If i go back in Tasmania, I will go here again.
Momo T — Google review
Came for lunch, my friend ordered straight away the wagyu arancini they were to die for, the sauce it was on was a bit capsicum spicy tomato kind of flavor. And also the duck I said I’ll decide in a little bit. The waiter looked at us and said oh we have a minimum of 45 per head spend! I said no issues! I couldn’t decide, however I went with the lamb shoulder and ribs. Was so tender it was nice the sliced lamb was a little tougher though! I also had the side of greens they where cooked to perfection The desert was to die for. Will go back to try other things

We recently visited Astor on our short Hobart trip and were impressed by the quality of the food and service. We ordered scallop entree and were captured by the freshness with beautiful balanced taste of macadamia nuts in the source. Our steak was perfectly cooked, and the bone marrow condiment added a clever flavourful touch. Service was attentive with great recommendations that enhanced our experience. It was great that we have booked ahead and we would have returned for another meal if we were not flying off the next day.

Frank Restaurant offers a unique blend of Argentinean and South American cuisine in a lively setting with colorful decor and oversized lighting. Despite its unassuming office building facade, the interior exudes an eclectic mix of Louis XV, French Disco, and Australian influences. The menu features delectable empanadas as starters and a variety of small plates, sides, and meat dishes. Noteworthy is the classic Argentinian parilla entrana showcasing tender sliced beef with fresh chimichurri.
This place offers a beautiful combination of flavors at very affordable prices. Located right in the heart of the city near the ferry pier, it’s easy to get to and serves great food. The portions are generous – we ordered a few dishes to try and left feeling full and satisfied. It’s a perfect spot for visitors looking to enjoy good food without breaking the bank.

Cold, wet and windy evening in Hobart and, having just left the Spiegeltent Limbo The Return performance, we were looking for somewhere warm to have a late-night snack - as did just about everyone else who attended the show! We happened to come across Frank Restaurant and managed to find a table - thanks to the very efficient waiter. We ordered a few small tapas-style dishes to share, including the Three Cheese Empanada & Chimichurri, Fried Corn Ribs, Ciabatta with Jalapeno and Lime Butter, and Tortilla with Chicken. Everything was delicious, especially the corn ribs with pimenton, parmesan and lime. The empanada were equally flavourful and the pastry was perfect. What we especially liked was the warm bread with its smokey flavour. The only downside was that we couldn't linger as it was closing time. Hats off to the young gentleman who served us on how capably and tactfully he dealt with a very noisy patron at the table next to ours!

Definitely going back. This place had a friendly vibe. The staff were fun and well informed about the food. Tables were mixed in groups or pairs. It was not too loud and we could hear each other really well. The place itself is lit softly, which adds to the warmth of the place. You need to book.

Had lunch here yesterday and absolutely loved it. We shared a bunch of dishes, pork belly 300g, Hangar 300g, had the potato side and Brussel sprouts. My wife had a tortilla of the day, one of us had the chicken and corn starters. We had a couple of desserts. All of it was delicious and the service was outstanding. Glen was great and super efficient and friendly. If you’re visiting Hobart make this a stop on your list. Quieter at lunchtime to enjoy the views.

Frank is my current personal favourite restaurant in all of Hobart. The atmosphere is incredible at any time past 8:30 pm or whenever it gets dark because they turn on the beautiful mood lighting and it is perfect. The food is so good, THE BEST thing on the entire menu to me is the chorizo entree, it had chimichurri on top and the sausage was perfectly soaked in vinegar, by far my favourite food. The other food is also amazing, all the small dishes are delectable especially the roasted pumpkin. Pretty much all the meat dishes are great. The one and only thing that may be a downside to frank restaurant is that there is a bit of a wait and it might be expensive depending on what you order. All I can say about the wait is too grab a good drink and have good company to chat too! I don’t think the wait for food ruins it at all, it is soo worth it for how good the food is. Also service is impeccable! They are so nice! 100% recommend Again GET THE CHORIZO

An Exceptional Culinary Journey Our dining experience at Frank Restaurant in Hobart was nothing short of exceptional. It quickly became one of the highlights of our trip to Tasmania, offering a culinary journey that was both innovative and satisfying. We opted for the set menu, which provided a diverse and well-curated selection of dishes. Each course showcased the restaurant's commitment to quality ingredients and skillful preparation. From the delicate flavors of the fire-roasted oysters to the hearty satisfaction of the skirt steak, every bite was a delight. The accompanying wines, particularly the bottle of red Argentina, perfectly complemented the meal's nuances. The service at Frank was equally impressive. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and made excellent recommendations. His guidance towards the set menu ensured that we fully appreciated the restaurant's culinary offerings. Beyond the exceptional food and service, Frank's atmosphere was inviting and sophisticated. The restaurant's ambiance created a memorable backdrop for our dining experience. If you're seeking a truly unforgettable meal in Hobart, Frank Restaurant is a must-visit. It offers a combination of exquisite cuisine, impeccable service, and a delightful atmosphere that will leave you wanting more.

Glen was awesome. Great host, great recommendations and even better banter with us. Was a quiet Saturday lunch time for 2pm booking but we got the personalised service we didn't know we loved until we got it! Overall a wonderful spot, but the food was certainly the show stopper. For us 2 whoa re not huge pork belly fans, we took Glen's advices and are very much happy we did. It was unreal!! Chicken wings, empanada, brussel sprouts (chilli was so good), octopus, corn ribs and oysters flame cooked and fresh both incredible, all the food was unique and special. The zero beer Mine ya Head, and the Felicia Amber Ale really complimented the entire aray of food we are. The coffee at the was great too!! The bathrooms were interesting to, so an overall great experience, and when in Hobart agina will certainly be down to spend the money and time being in this venue. Cheers Glen and the team on today for a great experience!!

Managed to get a last minute lunch booking and enjoyed the dining experience we had at Frank. Most of the dishes we tried were great. Fresh and full of flavour. Standouts were the grilled octopus 🐙, beetroot and rocket salad 🥗 (rocket was not bitter!), cola glazed pork belly was nice and crispy and of cause the cauliflower. Disappointing was the hanger steak, perhaps more so to do with our preference with the cut of steak? Anyway, it's one of the must try dining places in Hobart and it didn't disappoint.

Nestled in the charming wharf area of Hobart, The Saffron Indian Restaurant offers a delightful escape into the world of authentic North Indian and Kashmiri cuisine. With its sleek decor and warm ambiance, this elegant dining spot is perfect for those seeking a distinguished culinary experience. Guests can indulge in an array of traditional tandoori dishes and rich curries, all thoughtfully paired with an impressive selection of wines and beverages to enhance their meal.
Location, service, ambience and taste. Saffron Indian restaurant ticks all the boxes for a good Indian dinner. The food is finger licking good and absolutely delicious. Service is excellent even though most of the time the are only 3 servers in duty. On a quick look around, I think that the restaurant can accommodate about 80 patrons at the same time. Pro-tip: Good food takes time to arrive. So avoid going right at peak times. What to order: Anything you like. My favorites are Daal Makhani, chicken curry and Lamb Biryani. Paneer Saagwala (spinach cottage cheese curry) is fantastic. I would love to try their Goat curry too. Verdict: one of the best Indian restaurants in Hobart.
Raj M — Google review
To all following me, overall food is great 👍 as compared to any other place in hobart and curries have that nice thick creamy texture and I ordered like 3 curries and all of them were good, must try malai kofta ! Great location and liked nearly all food except the garlic naan had less garlic, so was a little disappointed but the naan were super soft and decent. For the price of what they charge as fine dining, I would only request for great service as the person serving was on the phone most of the time and not attentive enough. The quality is great and quantity is ok, but well, all are giving less quantity these days with no quality, so really pleased with the food and its authentic taste. Must try and hope to see u soon with great service as your food. Would have given 5 stars if the service was attentive.

Home away from home. The chilly indicator do mean something and what a delicious Mint chicken indeed. The naan bread were perfectly cooked and soft. If you are out on a date or say visiting Hobart and want some good quality indian food then I would definitely recommend this place. Customer service is excellent too.
Keestu E — Google review
Awesome service and food. We celebrated our anniversary dinner and on special request of my wife they surprised me with complimentary song and happy anniversary written on a plate with chocolate sauce and Gulab Jamuns. It was really memorable. Would recommend to visit this place at least once. :)
Aadil M — Google review
After googling best Indian restaurants in Hobart, this place was one of the restaurants that was recommended. My partner ordered the beef vindaloo. He liked his dish but would have preferred fresh chillies, not powered. I ordered the prawn Punjab masala. My dish was spicy with a decent amount of prawns. But the size of the dish appeared small for the price. We also ordered the plain Naan, garlic naan and cheese and garlic naan. The cheese and garlic and the garlic naan definitely needed more garlic, as you could barely taste it. Other than that it was good.
Suzie K — Google review
We had matar paneer and karahi chicken. Looks weren’t bad but the taste wasn’t good. Both had too much tomato paste in them and tasted like tomato paste. Naans were raw and tasted bad as were undercooked.
Sharvi T — Google review
The saffron Indian restaurant is one of the best tassie Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to. Personally, I loved their Fish and chicken tikka and the gin section 44 made the meal great. The restaurant is in the city making it very convenient for city residents and tourists.

Last night I had a lovely dinner at the Saffron! The service was amazing and the food was the best indian food I have had in Hobart for years. The owner was very friendly and I will not settle for any other indian restaurant in the future!

Roaring Grill is a vibrant and contemporary restaurant in Hobart, showcasing the finest meats and seafood sourced locally. The menu features an array of dishes, including braised beef cheek, lamb shanks, and an extensive selection of steaks with various sauces. The establishment takes pride in its paddock-to-plate approach, offering top-quality beef from Tasmania's North West coast and grass-fed Wagyu from Robbins Island. Additionally, the restaurant provides a modern ambiance complemented by craft beer and cocktails.
We visited Roaring Grill as a vegetarian family of two adults and a toddler, and it was an unforgettable experience! Chef Mike went above and beyond to accommodate our dietary requirements, and we were blown away by the food. The mushroom risotto was hands down the best we’ve ever had in our lives – creamy, flavorful, and absolutely perfect. We also enjoyed delicious roasted veggies and a refreshing mocktail that paired beautifully with the meal. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel so welcome throughout the evening. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for families. Roaring Grill is truly a gem in Hobart, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s worth every visit, and we’ll definitely be coming back again!

My husband and I recently had Sunday dinner at the Roaring Grill. The quality of the food was excellent. My steak was beautifully cooked to my liking. Hubby had the flathead fish which was equally done superbly. Staff were friendly and attentive. Highly recommend.

Best steak and Ribs in Hobart, the bone marrow on sourdough was phenomenal, we paired the Californian Cabernet Sauvignon and can’t wait to come back again and the service was unbelievable 5⭐️
Stuart K — Google review
Went there last night for a feed, haven’t been there for some time. The meal was fantastic, well priced, service was swift and the staff were great. I have an Angus steak, cooked perfectly to my liking and easy to eat. A friend had the ribs, fantastic. Other meals including fish were all great, all plates were empty. Highly recommend.

This is a great restaurant for Beef, pork, chicken, lamb and more. When we entered, it was very charming. The wait was minimal, we got served immediately with a smile. We ordered the share platter for two and it had a bit of everything. The taste was amazing! Totally recommended as the price is right.

All I'm going to say is. This restaurant is an absolute must while visiting Hobart. Food and service were amazing! Wine selection was outstanding!
Mitch G — Google review
The fillet steaks were great. Service was really good. The blue cheese sauce didn't have a strong blue cheese flavour so don't get it if you're wanting that hit. The drinks were good. Creme brulee was good and tiramisu was tasty but would be better without the chocolate sauce at the bottom. Steaks were cooked perfectly which is great.
Claudia F — Google review
Had arranged for a group booking as we were celebrating a birthday and wanted to try their set menu which was set at $65 a person. They were very accommodating and had no issue with any request ( which for us was swapping dessert option for the birthday cake we'd brought along). For entree you get a platter of a mix of food to pick and choose from and for the mains you get a choice out of 5 dishes (I chose the sirloin steak on mash and salad). All the food was delicious, filling and the staff were always at hand if you needed them. The service was great and they timed themselves between meals for clean up perfectly. The atmosphere was very warm and relaxing and we felt the value was excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending them for a group booking. We were even given a discount for bringing our own dessert which shows how willing they are to be flexible. Great value!

Thai Veggie Hutt is a charming vegetarian and mostly vegan restaurant situated in the lively Bank Arcade of central Hobart. The shabby-chic space with timber decor offers a diverse menu featuring Asian-inspired cuisine with a focus on mock meat dishes, including barbecue vegetables and panang curry. Despite its unassuming shopfront, the eatery's pre-GFC prices make it an appealing choice for those seeking delicious vegetarian Thai food.
The best vegetarian Thai cuisine in Hobart? Maybe...The Thai Veggie Hut certainly comes very close.. it's easily the most consistent and hygienic. Lovely staff and the Vegan BBQ is as good as any dish I've had in Bangkok! Highly recommended 🙏
Morgan B — Google review
The food was delicious and ready to eat, which is very convenient if you are looking for vego options in town. However, I think the portions are quite small for the price. Despite that, I plan to come back to try some other options. Also, they offer a lot of healthy drinks.
Santiago V — Google review
My wife and I swung by Thai Veggie Hutt in Hobart, and let me tell you, it’s a spot that even impressed her—and she’s a Thai vegetarian who cooks like a culinary wizard! The staff were like instant friends, chatting with us about the menu and making us feel right at home. The place is cozy but gets packed at lunch, so we snagged a table just in time. It’s not every day you find a place that can hold its own against my wife’s kitchen magic, but Thai Veggie Hutt nailed it. Affordable, vibrant, and so delicious—we’re already planning to come back and try the whole menu!
Jeff J — Google review
The best food ever. If I had such a place in Poland, I’d eat vegan food everyday, be fat and happy. Lucky you! Delicious

I think Thai Veggie Hutt has the best value for food in Hobart! Also extremely tasty too. I love going to this restaurant, everything they make is so good!!? I haven’t had a dish disappoint me so far and I’ve had almost all the available toppings they offer!! Always busy around lunch hour because every worker in the CBD area on their lunch break goes to Thai Veggie Hutt for a quick takeaway lunch ;o

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Hobart - and it came highly recommended. All dishes are homemade and vegetarian. We appreciated that there was a lot of protein in the form of tofu, seitan, etc. Hearty, really good tasting, inexpensive, homemade vegetarian Thai food - you can't ask for more! There are a few tables to sit at in the restaurant or there are outdoor picnic tables around the corner.

Very tasty vegan Thai food. 6 (ish) options on offer with either rice or noodles, plus a menu of 7 dishes made to order. Hot, delicious food, so good I went back the next day. Will be back! Highly recommend the bbq dish or anything with the vegan duck.

Nestled in the heart of Hobart's Central Business District, The Tasmanian Inn is a charming hotel and restaurant that has been welcoming guests since 1851. Just a short drive from popular attractions like Constitution Dock and Salamanca Market, this historic venue offers a delightful blend of comfort and culinary experiences. Guests can unwind on the terrace or in the garden while enjoying complimentary Wi-Fi throughout their stay.
We stayed here during our visit to Hobart and had a wonderful time. If you're looking for affordable accommodation close to the city, this is definitely the right place for you. The pub downstairs is quite popular and offers delicious food.

Fabulous pub with the public area. Broken into nice wall booths and tables on either side of a fireplace and corner leading around the corner behind the bar to a restaurant. Food is typical pub fare but well done.
Peter R — Google review
I visited alone for dinner on Wed 8th Oct. Cozy little pub obviously popular with the locals and it has a great selection of pints. Food was excellent and filling, I really enjoyed it. Staff were amazing and attentive. I didn't catch the barmaid's name but she recommended a few beers for me to try, was very friendly and made me feel right at home. Thanks, whoever you are! I could have stayed there all night sipping pints if I wasn't ready to fall asleep - beats any pubs I've been to in Melbourne!!! Thanks Tas Inn, Pauric 👍
P — Google review
Overpriced. The place is noisy, got woken up multiple times during the night by other tenants. The room and bathrooms have the bare minimum in it. Shower water was not stable, going from hot to cold every 30 secondes. Bathrooms and rest room are as cold as a freezer (no windows). TV was not working. Room was clean
JOSEPH J — Google review
I’ve popped into the Tasmanian Inn a few times since it changed hands earlier this year, and to be fair, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag. But credit where credit’s due: lately things have been on the up, and I reckon it’s shaping into a proper family favourite. As tradition goes, you start with a pint of Guinness — the yardstick for any decent pub. And I’ve got to say, it was a lovely pour. Smooth, creamy, near perfect. If I had to nitpick, I’d say it could’ve used just a touch more domagẽ on the head… but I’ll happily let that slide. Especially when they’re running $10 pints during happy hour (4–6pm). In times like these, that’s a welcome sight indeed. Now, the food is where the improvements have really shown. The Scotch Egg? Spot on. Perfectly cooked, yolk the right side of runny — the sort of thing you pause to admire before tucking in. The Chicken Parmy followed it up beautifully: crispy golden panko crumb, tender and juicy chicken, and a proper pub-sized portion. Big ticks all round. Special mention to the side salad: a pickled slaw instead of the stock-standard leafy number — a small but welcome change. The roasted cauliflower side was also a winner, allowing the quality ingredients to shine. Simplicity at its best. Picked up a bit of nostalgia on this one, almost like it was a quiet nod to a beloved pub we sadly lost a year or so ago (if you know, you know). There’s a good buzz about the place — the bar had a steady hum of conversation with a solid knock-off crowd, and the dining room filled quickly to match. All up, it feels like the Tas Inn is finding its stride. There’s a sense the crew behind it know what they want it to be — I’ll be back with pint in hand, keen to tuck in for more.
The R — Google review
It is a charming little pub that requires self sufficiency due to bare minimum service. It can be noise due to the major road and noisy pub customers late nights.
David H — Google review
Great helpful friendly staff. Made us feel so welcome like staying with family. Look no further for great food and a nice drinky it's all here. Breakfast is a self service basic all you need affair. There's great coffee shops nearby and the historical attractions start only a short walk toward the sea front with the National Trust prison building.

Birdsong Restaurant, formerly known as Beef and Seafood Grill, has transformed into a beloved steakhouse in Hobart that offers a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Renowned for its exceptional selection of Cape Grim steaks, diners can indulge in mouthwatering cuts like Porterhouse, Scotch Fillet, and Eye Fillet. Each steak can be enhanced with delightful sauces such as mushroom or herb & garlic butter. The modern setting is attached to a conference center but maintains an approachable vibe.
Seafood chowder and twice cooked chicken with coconut curry superb. Beautifully presented and full of flavour. Could not fault any aspect of the experience or service. Lovely cosy atmosphere for my birthday. Would highly recommend 👍🏻

This eatery is situated in the Salamanca Inn. When we had breakfast there, it was very quiet, probably due to the fact it's away from the hustle & bustle of the Salamanca tourists strip. Breakfast was a choice of buffet or from a small menu. We ordered from the menu. Mediocre food options. I had the avocado, which was presented nicely, coffee wasn't great
Diana W — Google review
Really nice spot for an upmarket steak. We could not fault the service here. A little quiet but that suited our mood for the night. We had the oysters as an entree (hot and both enjoyed a sirloin and a rib eye steak medium rare. Cooked spot on. The steak could have had a bit more char but that’s only for perfection. I would have liked more sauce and included a red wine jus… but very happy with our meal. Great wine list and really enjoyed the Stormy Bay red..and walked away very impressed
David D — Google review
We enjoyed the restaurant and the food was delicious. Service seemed a bit nervous and kept apologizing, it was not needed. Food was a bit slow coming out and they ran out of a dish but it was a holiday. We had no issues with it but maybe others did. We will be back when we visit again on holiday.

If I could give 10 stars, I would. The service was perfect (young, blond girl who was just lovely), the steaks were possibly the best steaks we’ve ever eaten, and the ambience was again - perfect! Would honestly come back down to Tassie just to visit this restaurant again (from Melbourne). Do yourself a favour and visit :)

The food was faultless and so incredibly delicious! The baked brie, chowder, portabello mushroom and steak! For the quality of food, the restaurant should have been packed. Unfortunately it seems most stay on the high street. But if you venture 50m off the beaten track u will not be disappointed!!! Do your tastebuds a favour and check it out!!
