Flea & Street Markets
Salamanca Market is a bustling Saturday market in Hobart, Tasmania, known for its diverse offerings. With over 300 vendors, the market features an array of products including food, produce, art, clothing and Tasmanian timber items. The vibrant atmosphere along the waterfront showcases locally crafted goods such as unique clothing and jewelry, artisan cheeses, fresh produce and more.
This place is phenomenal. You can find everything here, and even the stuff you're not looking for but want anyway. The craftsmanship from knives to knitted clothing, leather goods and jewellery is outstanding and the unique innovations are stunning. Then there is the produce and the ready to eat food. Lobster Rolls, Scallops on a stick, warm fresh baked rolls with sizzling bacon and eggs, freshly brewed coffee and tea; and that was only the first few steps into the markets. There is more, so much more. The culinary delights from the Middle East to mustard from Finland, sublime.

If you’re there on Saturday I’m a sure someone told you must visit Salamanca market and they are right! It’s an amazing walk around plenty of options to buy, eat or gift. At night and the other days Salamanca place is full of life, with places open till late(not something you find easy when in Hobart) and plenty of options to dine or drink. Trust me you will find yourself keep revisiting this area.

Great variety of local produce, artists, food, drinks, & amazing hard-crafted items. Spoilt for choice! Spent quite a few hours browsing here. Took home quite a few treasures. The market is set just near the docks, so we also got to see the new 'Spirit of Tasmsnia'. You can see Mt Wellington from here, a majestic sight. Great food, drinks, & music. The stallholders were lovely to talk to & full of local knowledge. Loved our day here.
Kathy T — Google review
What an amazing Saturday market! This is definitely worth planning a trip around if you want to shop locally and for me especially, for souvenirs for the family! There are so many great stalls from gifts, food, alcohol and more plus local artists playing their music for some fun entertainment! Special call outs for me were (see pics) Cheeky Devil Roaster - they are great. They took the beans and ground them for me to take home to my family to try as well~ love the coffee and love the hat! The Artesia Pewter company what amazing and beautiful pieces they have. I bought wine stoppers for the family members back in America with their favorite Aussie animal. The Tee-shirt shop with such great prices and sizes. Plenty of styles both male and female and some nice light coats too! Ned Pickering Arts for playing an assume fiddle!
Jane F — Google review
It is highly recommended, everyone. There is nothing quite like gaining a deeper understanding of the city. This is one of the most enjoyable local weekly markets one could experience. You can find a wide variety of items here. I particularly enjoyed the fresh produce, food, and apparel. The atmosphere is quite pleasant for exploration. You will certainly have a delightful day there.
Shubham N — Google review
Yes, go! There are so many stalls, there’s something for everyone!! We had sausage in rolls for breakfast with some fresh apple juice from another stall. We got some socks as well as the most delightful ring, recycled from a vintage spoon! The day we went , there was a cruise ship in town, but it wasn’t overcrowded. Plenty of space that stretches right up the hill.
Fran H — Google review
Great day out. Variety of stalls selling high quality products and produce. Not a place to get a bargain but great to sample products straight from the supplier. Very much takes pride in the products produced in Tasmania.

Gardens
The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, established in 1818, cover a 14-hectare site on Hobart's waterfront along the River Derwent. It is a popular attraction for families with plenty of trails and green space for kids to enjoy. The gardens feature historic plants, a Japanese garden, an Antarctic plant house, a fuchsia house, a cactus collection, and a traditional herb garden.
Amazing Botanical Gardens, so beautiful walking around looking at all the local and international fauna. The Japanese garden was a highlight with the pink flowers everywhere. Highly recommend for everyone to visit and take some time to relax walking around!

Magic and huge gardener! A dream, lot of different plants and flowers. Different part of the globe scenario and amazing, beautiful, perfect care to detail. Lovely to spending some time, take pictures and be grateful for the creator. Thank Jesus! Thank God allowing us to explore such a great place.

I am most impressed with their Japanese Garden, it is so authentic and beautifully done. It made me feel I was back in Japan. The conservatory was most enchanting, it felt like I was in a fairy tale. Such a nice park overall. So many things to see like Subantarctic plant house and pineapple house. Friendly staff/volunteers, very clean and it is just magic to be in there.
Momo T — Google review
Beautiful gardens to walk around and see different plants and garden designs 🌹🌺🌻🪻 It took me about 35 minutes walk from the city central via intercity way to the Botanical garden. I love the Japanese garden and the rose garden, however, it was pouring rain when I visited so all the poor roses seem to be unhappy 🥀😞 I also really enjoyed the Subantarctic plant house which have this cool looking fern with hair on the leaf 🪴🌱 and beautiful mural on the wall! The calming lily pond has a whole family of duck and duckling swimming around welcoming spring! The conservatory is nice and warm and filled with lovely orchids, just lovely to look at!

Wow, was blown away by this. Not many influencers suggested this when looking for things to do in Hobart. It was one of my favourite things. So many beautiful trees and flowers and displays. There was a small coffee van with Apple drinks and delicious cakes. Easy access for anyone. Loved it
Lisa S — Google review
Very pretty and well kept gardens. There are lots of informational plaques under each plant to tell you about it. Multiple different scenes/gardens. Lots of places to sit or stop in the shade. Only thing to note is that a majority of the garden is set on a hill, so expect lots of stairs and hills.
Mitchell D — Google review
Lovely botanical gardens! It has a good little coffee cart inside too. Doesn't take long to walk around the gardens but the range of plants from all round the world and Australia is just amazing! Well worth visiting.
Stuart P — Google review
The best and widest variety of plants and trees I have had the privilege to see in a botanic garden! Very impressive displays, all in themed plots and well labelled with both common and Botanic names. Antarctic display a highlight. Also Japanese garden numerous maple trees and water features.

Farmers Markets
Farm Gate Market is a lively and bustling Sunday market located in central Hobart, Tasmania. It offers an abundance of fresh, locally sourced produce including seasonal fruits and vegetables, artisanal cheeses, homemade breads and pastas, free-range meats and eggs, freshly caught oysters, and handcrafted gins from local distilleries. The market also features a variety of vendors selling pickles, relishes, jams as well as breakfast and lunch options such as oversized cookies and gourmet toasties.
I was thoroughly impressed by the remarkable diversity, uniqueness, and exceptional quality of the food at this farmer's market. The sellers are not only friendly but also deeply knowledgeable, showcasing genuine pride in their produce. It's a delightful and rewarding way to spend your Sunday mornings—highly recommended!
Hui W — Google review
Farm Gate Market in Hobart is a charming spot for a Sunday morning. While it’s a smaller market, it offers a great variety of fresh farming products like fruits, veggies, cheese, seafood, and meat. The yogurt and cheese store was especially nice! They also have a mix of food stalls serving Asian and Aussie food, which adds a bit of variety to the experience. It’s a cozy market, perfect for a little wandering around the city. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in Hobart on a Sunday!
Jade P — Google review
Pretty awesome market, everyone brings their own basket or recycle bags with them. Brussels sprouts looks soooo good. Wish I can bring it back 😍 didn’t get to buy anything but still happy to walk the market. The veggie looks so fresh
Ebonex A — Google review
Lovely little street with lots of fresh produce. Some similar shops to Salamanca market the day before, but mostly different and still nicely varied. Worth a quick visit to get breakfast or some quick bites!
Matt H — Google review
It was a lovely experience in the middle of the Hobart city. A busy street has turned in to a local market with home made products and foods from different cultures. It is not massive as Salamanca market, but full of organic products. Had some delicious foods and brought some home grown vegetables😍
Chamath S — Google review
Open every Sunday morning!! Similar to Salamanca Market but a little bit smaller and sill rich in different vendors tho 👍🏻
Jing Y — Google review
As a resident of Hobart that goes there nearly every Sunday this is the market where locals go for a Sunday bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, maybe snack, coffee or to get the latest boutique drink. Its premise is that all stalls have only local Tasmanian produce do there are no souvenirs. And it certainly lives up to being one, if note the best place in Hobart for that. It is the place where Hobartians cross paths and enjoy local produce, even on cold winter Sunday mornings, of that is something you want to do then this is the place to come.
Jaime P — Google review
Looking for something to do on a Sunday, this is a must, the market is fun, and a lovely vibe about it, there are many stalls to enjoy, and there vendors are friendly and helpful.

Mona, the Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart, is a must-visit attraction for families. It's Australia's largest privately owned museum with captivating modern and historic art installations that are both confronting and entertaining. One of the recommended ways to get there is by taking the Mona Roma ferry, which offers a relaxing and picturesque ride along the River Derwent. The ferry trip takes approximately 25 minutes from Brooke Street Pier and provides great commentary along with comfortable seating.
Beautiful experience. The ferry ride was about 15 mins one way and there are some breathtaking views. Take your camera out and start clicking. I did the standard experience not the posh one. It really makes no difference in my opinion. It's 15 minutes, you don't need a special lounge for that, haha.
Darshini S — Google review
Caught the ferry with six other friends on Monday 23 June. Splurged and went in the Posh Pit. Lydia was the most friendliness host and a credit to your organisation. We had a super fun day chilling, drinking champers and eating fresh oysters. We all had visited the museum previously so just wanted to hang out and laugh, eat and relax. Thanks to all staff in the bar as well as the ferry. A truly memorable day.
Susan O — Google review
Fabulous organisation & very timely. Easy to change time slots of return journey too. We booked the Posh pit, highly recommend it. Lovely small snacks & nice drinks on offer. Special mention to the lovely staff especially Lydia. So friendly.
Jacqui D — Google review
Outstanding experience and well worth spending extra to enjoy the Posh Pit. Excellent service, lovely nibbles and drinks. The thing I enjoyed and appreciated most about the MONA ferry was that the experience began even before we boarded. The staff member in the terminal who called passengers to present for boarding was hilarious in her commentary, with quite the acerbic wit. She had everyone in fits of giggles. Staff in the Posh Pit were courteous and very efficient, especially given how many passengers they had to attend to whilst still having to manage casting-off and arrival tasks. The nibbles were small and tasty and more than enough given how short the trip is. All in all a first-class experience and highly recommended.
Dedre T — Google review
We travelled in the Posh Pit expecting a premium experience, but it fell short. While the staff were lovely, the drinks were good, and the seating was comfortable, the overall experience was disappointing. The biggest issue was the windows – they were so dirty we could barely see the water. Given the extra cost for the Posh Pit, this lack of basic upkeep was frustrating. The view is meant to be part of the experience, and it was completely ruined by the filthy glass.
Alvin K — Google review
Great way to travel to MONA. Nice touch with the brilliant food served and the smooth cruise from Constitution Dock to the docks of MONA. Indulge and travel like the rockstar that you deserve!
Normandy J — Google review
Posh pit tix. Had the lovely Declan both ways. Friendly, efficient and on the ball. A total gem. The actual product is wonderful. A few small savoury bites on the way out and a couple of sweets on the way back. I was able to re-book an earlier trip back which was a bonus.
Cee J — Google review
Mona ferry was easy to find and a fantastic experience. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. We booked the posh pit, well worth the extra expense! The stairs at the Mona end while sound a little hard (99 steps) was actually very easy, small steps takes the load off the climb! Drinks were free flowing and topped up very quickly, food in both directions was excellent! We changed our time on the way back and the Mona staff were fantastic!

Nestled in the historic waterfront precinct of Hobart, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) offers a delightful blend of art, culture, and science. As Australia's second oldest museum, it presents an engaging array of exhibits that delve into Tasmania's rich history. Visitors can explore Indigenous Aboriginal culture, learn about the elusive Tasmanian Tiger, and admire colonial arts and crafts.
The best thing about this museum is that it's free entry! And their numerous displays it's already too good. Got to see a real sample of a thylacine. They also had alot of stuffed animals for display and things about Antarctica exhibition.

It’s such a blessing for the community to have a free museum like the Museum and Art Gallery here in Tasmania 🎁 There are so many different exhibitions covering a wide range of topics 🎨🦕🧬 To be honest, I’m not usually that interested in museums ,but we ended up learning so much and really enjoyed our visit! 😊 If you’ve never been, whether you’re a tourist or a local, you should definitely come and experience it for yourself 👣 There’s something for everyone ,kids and adults alike will find something fascinating to explore 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦✨

Huge museum with very interesting exhibitions on the history, culture, animals and art of Tasmania presented with rich content and high context. The museum was so big, we could not even „digest“ all information or provided texts, so we focused on some topics and sections of the museum. It is free of entry and a very recommended visit if you have 1-2h available during your stay in Hobart.
Max — Google review
One of the best museum in Australia I have visited soo far. They have very good collection of animal birds, the butterfly room was spectacular. It’s a great place to spend a good time of 1.5 to 2 hours. A great place and must visit attractions for tourists.
Sudha — Google review
The museum is great. If you’re coming from a big city, it might seem a bit small at first, but it actually has some really interesting exhibits. I always think visiting museums is one of the best ways to get to know a place. My favorite part was the Antarctica section and the giant LEGO ship was seriously cool.
Maria O — Google review
This is a brilliant museum and gallery located in two buildings which have been beautifully renovated whilst retaining their heritage and integrity. The collections are eclectic and high quality. The Australian artworks are wonderful including classics like Robert, Bunny and McCubbin. There are temporary exhibitions. The Beetle collection was astounding and the photos of Pompeii so beautiful and evocative. The works of Oliffe Richmond are so wonderful. Set over two levels, there is a lift between the floors. The staff are helpful and very knowledgeable. There is no charge to enter the museum and gallery which is fantastic. There is a cafe and a gallery shop.. A great place to spend several hours.

Quite a good museum. It was free on the day I went. Maybe it's always free. I'm not sure. Very kid/family friendly. If you find noise overwhelming, go at lunch time during the week when most families have left. I went for the Tasmanian Tiger. They have an informative exhibit. I also liked the little Tasmanian devil. He was very cute. I didn't realise there would be so many skeletons which is great. I also quite like the video with the universe playing on it. The chair is very comfy. The paintings along the purple wall were also very pleasant.

Historic Sites
Hobart Convict Penitentiary, located in the heart of Hobart's CBD, is a historic site that offers a glimpse into Tasmania's early period. This 1830 edifice served as a chapel, jail, and court for male convicts and features an execution yard and gallows. Designed by architect John Lee Archer, the Georgian prison building housed around 40,000 male convicts until convict transportation ceased in 1853.
This was a wonderful experience. Our guide Kyle truly was a natural. He provided so much detail and knowledge on Tasmania and the convict history. For me this was a personal experience as I got to learn about my family history. The digital image provided of my 4x grandfather was surreal. Definitely will be back with my family.
Jen — Google review
A really interesting experience, more so thanks to the genuine enthusiasm of our wonderful guide, Brendan. It makes what is a relatively small remnant of the overall Penitentiary really fascinating. Using the name search facility for former convicts unlocks more information about why they came to be there and what eventually happened to them, if known. You can also scan the QR code in the photo. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in Hobart.
Patrick J — Google review
History feels very real when you can stand inside the small spaces convicts were confined for weeks, sometimes for stealing a loaf of bread. The free tours are fantastic to learn the stories of the convicts and their jailers. There’s also a boat trip included in the ticket which was great.
Sonja H — Google review
What an amazing experience, I’m so glad I found it when I was looking for what else I can do to Hobart. A place with the oldest history, you will learn so much about the first convicts, their hard life, you will watch a 20’ movie with a tour guide who will give you all the important details and more! The staff are all volunteers and they do an excellent job, maintaining this place that needs to keep standing! Trust me the ticket worth your time and your visit! Next time I’ll give it a go for the night tour as it looks promising!

Visited the Hobart Convict Penitentiary today and had an absolutely fantastic guided tour with Rodger. His passion and knowledge brought the history to life with vivid details and personal touches that made the experience unforgettable. One of the best tours we’ve ever had! The stories of the convicts were gripping, especially when we went under the floor into the solitary cells. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hobart. A nighttime ghost tour here would be incredible!

Brendan was our volunteer tour guide yesterday around this historical site. Wow, he was amazing, he relayed the information of the convicts and early settlers with such passion. We could honestly feel what it must have been like many years ago. The tour was also alot of fun. Beneath the weathered sandstone walls, time seems to soften, giving way to whispers of paintbrushes, music, and movement. It is not merely a gallery, but a living tapestry of art and spirit. Each corridor invites quiet wonder; each gallery door opens to a world of imagination. Local artists breathe life into canvas and clay, while visiting exhibitions stir thought and emotion. You don’t just see art here—you feel it, layered in textures, tones, and tales. Studios hum with the rhythm of creation, their windows flickering with dreams in progress. The resident artists and makers, grounded yet visionary, make this place feel like a pulse in the city’s chest. On weekends, music drifts through the air, mingling with the laughter of markets and the hush of reverent footsteps. The Centre holds space for all—wanderers, seekers, and lovers of the arts. Workshops, performances, and community gatherings enrich its ever-evolving narrative. The staff, warm and deeply knowledgeable, act as quiet stewards of this sanctuary. To walk through the Salamanca Arts Centre is to walk through stories made visible. It is a place where creativity finds home—and invites you to linger a little longer.

The Arts centre has a cafe, performing arts space, boutique galleries and retail outlets where you can buy direct from the artists and gallery owner. The Tricycle Cafe is quaint yet provides a wide selection of tasty food & beverages. The performance space and theatre host live theatre and film productions. Clean amenities with easy access. We enjoyed our visit and brunch.

This is an art hub and cultural space, making use of the row of the Georgian period warehouses at Salamanca Place which were refurbished and repurposed in 1976 as The Salamanca Arts Centre (SAC), creating space for visual and performance arts venues, galleries as well as alleys with boutique and interesting retail shops, coffee shops, cafes, studios and art galleries. It is neat place to check out while exploring around the Salamanca Precinct as a tourist and potentially a good spot to take in an art event as well. See the SAC website for details on what might be taking place at the time of your intended visit.

Great place to walk around and enjoy the art and architecture. A large number of shops and restaurants in the building and area. The building is a few floors and there are modern, contemporary and traditional artists. Easily spend a couple of hours looking around and more on Saturday with the Salamanca market is right outside the door.

The Theatre Royal in Hobart is a Georgian theater known for its stunning red-and-gold interior. It hosts a variety of modern plays, dance performances, and shows related to the performing arts. As one of the oldest continually operating theaters in Australia, dating back to 1837, it holds historical significance and offers visitors a unique cultural experience. This iconic venue is just one of many historical sites worth exploring in the Hobart region, showcasing Tasmania's rich heritage and diverse attractions.
Beautiful interior, cosy atmosphere. Very easy to get to seats and good visibility from anywhere. Sound and lighting was great, so a lovely intimate experience.

Went for a shower during Dark Mofo and just loved the historic theatre with its ceiling and wall ornaments, the balconies and chandelier. Its connected to the TAS university where each level has a bar so no crowding. Seats are close to each other but comfortable (reasonably). I hope they keep it its state and I am looking forward to come back
Annette D — Google review
A gorgeous old theatre hosting great shows! The entrance is modern and beautiful. The location is perfect as the wharf is just a quick walk down the road for dinner.
Bill K — Google review
The Studio Theatre is an intimate venue with seating on 3 sides. The is a small balcony as well. The large wooden features give the space a wonderful acoustic. It is a warm and clear. I saw Vince Jones and Paul Grabowski performing in the Festival of Voices and it was the perfect venue. It’s located on the 4th level of the complex and there is a lit or stairs. Only drawback I could find was that there was a water fountain but no cups and the bar did not provide water unless you asked.
G M — Google review
This upgrade to the once grand old lady of Theatre, the beautiful Theatre Royal is definitely a statement. However avoid the Dress Circle seats in the new facility as there is extremely poor ventilation and visibility is disappointing for such a large space which could have been World Class. Left early to avoid fainting from lack of oxygen. The smoke effect rises and compounds the ventilation issue in the very small dress circle.

Cozy atmosphere both inside the theatre and the bars. The prices for beverages are good too. The theatre is comfortable, and the interior is amazing and well preserved.

Specialty Museums
The Mawson's Huts Replica Museum in Hobart is a faithful recreation of the huts used by Douglas Mawson and his team during their Antarctic expedition. Located just 200 meters from where the expedition departed in 1911, this museum offers an immersive experience into the living conditions of Australia's early Antarctic explorers.
Small museum but very interesting and cheap to see. We only had a few hours in Hobart and this was a great place to go, very easy to find and near lots of other main attractions, shops and the cruise ship terminal. Staff were really friendly and keen to share their knowledge too, and there's a small gift shop section in the reception. Got through it comfortably in about an hour or so, but if you stopped to read everything in detail you could probably spend a bit longer.
Crystal R — Google review
A truly memorable and unique experience. Although the museum is compact, the display is unlike anything I've encountered before. It offers a powerful insight into the lives of the early intrepid Antarctic explorers, capturing their courage, hardships, and determination with remarkable authenticity. What struck me most was learning just how young many of these men were, and the immense sacrifices they made in the pursuit of discovery. The Mawson’s Huts Replica Museum is a sobering, eye-opening tribute to a defining chapter in exploration history. Definately well worth a visit.
Melvin T — Google review
Small but really good museum. There is a lot of information to read, so leave yourself enough time. We decided to pop in while we were at the Salamanca Market. Definitely worth visiting!
Patrick J — Google review
A lovely and faithful replica of Mawson’s huts. Filled with interesting facts and items. If you are interested in polar exploration and history this is the perfect place to spend some time. There is a little park outside with some cute statues of huskies.
G M — Google review
Wow, this place is a must do when in Hobart. It is an amazing history learning experience. My mind was blown at the conditions these men endured and the bravery that must have been needed. Head on down as all proceeds go to funding this amazing program
Aussie P — Google review
This was an awesome experience. Firstly Sophia at the front desk gave us a snapshot of the exhibition and interesting facts about living in Antarctica. Then we walked around and viewed the photos and archival films and read the fascinating descriptions. Then we walked into the replica of Mawson’s hut and it was so well done. Probably the best museum exhibition I’ve ever seen. Thanks for a wonderful experience. Very reasonable entry price and happy to see the money go to maintaining and restoring Mawson’s Huts in Antarctica.
Michele W — Google review
I was really impressed with the friendliness of the staff along with their love of sharing knowledge and passion for their area of expertise. Rod is one of the volunteers and has actually led an earlier expedition and stayed at the original huts and has written a book that you can purchase at the store attached to the museum. Sophie, another one of the volunteers is planning a trip there this coming year. It was interesting learning about the history, geology, and lives of the men and their loyal canine companions. It was a great experience and an important part of Aussie history and culture. Money goes towards the preservation of the huts. A must go for sure. The more questions you ask with genuine interest and curiosity, the more you get out of it. Definitely a highlight for sure.

Frank Restaurant offers a unique blend of Argentinean and South American cuisine in a lively setting with colorful decor and oversized lighting. Despite its unassuming office building facade, the interior exudes an eclectic mix of Louis XV, French Disco, and Australian influences. The menu features delectable empanadas as starters and a variety of small plates, sides, and meat dishes. Noteworthy is the classic Argentinian parilla entrana showcasing tender sliced beef with fresh chimichurri.
This place offers a beautiful combination of flavors at very affordable prices. Located right in the heart of the city near the ferry pier, it’s easy to get to and serves great food. The portions are generous – we ordered a few dishes to try and left feeling full and satisfied. It’s a perfect spot for visitors looking to enjoy good food without breaking the bank.

Cold, wet and windy evening in Hobart and, having just left the Spiegeltent Limbo The Return performance, we were looking for somewhere warm to have a late-night snack - as did just about everyone else who attended the show! We happened to come across Frank Restaurant and managed to find a table - thanks to the very efficient waiter. We ordered a few small tapas-style dishes to share, including the Three Cheese Empanada & Chimichurri, Fried Corn Ribs, Ciabatta with Jalapeno and Lime Butter, and Tortilla with Chicken. Everything was delicious, especially the corn ribs with pimenton, parmesan and lime. The empanada were equally flavourful and the pastry was perfect. What we especially liked was the warm bread with its smokey flavour. The only downside was that we couldn't linger as it was closing time. Hats off to the young gentleman who served us on how capably and tactfully he dealt with a very noisy patron at the table next to ours!
Dedre T — Google review
Definitely going back. This place had a friendly vibe. The staff were fun and well informed about the food. Tables were mixed in groups or pairs. It was not too loud and we could hear each other really well. The place itself is lit softly, which adds to the warmth of the place. You need to book.

Had lunch here yesterday and absolutely loved it. We shared a bunch of dishes, pork belly 300g, Hangar 300g, had the potato side and Brussel sprouts. My wife had a tortilla of the day, one of us had the chicken and corn starters. We had a couple of desserts. All of it was delicious and the service was outstanding. Glen was great and super efficient and friendly. If you’re visiting Hobart make this a stop on your list. Quieter at lunchtime to enjoy the views.

Frank is my current personal favourite restaurant in all of Hobart. The atmosphere is incredible at any time past 8:30 pm or whenever it gets dark because they turn on the beautiful mood lighting and it is perfect. The food is so good, THE BEST thing on the entire menu to me is the chorizo entree, it had chimichurri on top and the sausage was perfectly soaked in vinegar, by far my favourite food. The other food is also amazing, all the small dishes are delectable especially the roasted pumpkin. Pretty much all the meat dishes are great. The one and only thing that may be a downside to frank restaurant is that there is a bit of a wait and it might be expensive depending on what you order. All I can say about the wait is too grab a good drink and have good company to chat too! I don’t think the wait for food ruins it at all, it is soo worth it for how good the food is. Also service is impeccable! They are so nice! 100% recommend Again GET THE CHORIZO

An Exceptional Culinary Journey Our dining experience at Frank Restaurant in Hobart was nothing short of exceptional. It quickly became one of the highlights of our trip to Tasmania, offering a culinary journey that was both innovative and satisfying. We opted for the set menu, which provided a diverse and well-curated selection of dishes. Each course showcased the restaurant's commitment to quality ingredients and skillful preparation. From the delicate flavors of the fire-roasted oysters to the hearty satisfaction of the skirt steak, every bite was a delight. The accompanying wines, particularly the bottle of red Argentina, perfectly complemented the meal's nuances. The service at Frank was equally impressive. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and made excellent recommendations. His guidance towards the set menu ensured that we fully appreciated the restaurant's culinary offerings. Beyond the exceptional food and service, Frank's atmosphere was inviting and sophisticated. The restaurant's ambiance created a memorable backdrop for our dining experience. If you're seeking a truly unforgettable meal in Hobart, Frank Restaurant is a must-visit. It offers a combination of exquisite cuisine, impeccable service, and a delightful atmosphere that will leave you wanting more.

Glen was awesome. Great host, great recommendations and even better banter with us. Was a quiet Saturday lunch time for 2pm booking but we got the personalised service we didn't know we loved until we got it! Overall a wonderful spot, but the food was certainly the show stopper. For us 2 whoa re not huge pork belly fans, we took Glen's advices and are very much happy we did. It was unreal!! Chicken wings, empanada, brussel sprouts (chilli was so good), octopus, corn ribs and oysters flame cooked and fresh both incredible, all the food was unique and special. The zero beer Mine ya Head, and the Felicia Amber Ale really complimented the entire aray of food we are. The coffee at the was great too!! The bathrooms were interesting to, so an overall great experience, and when in Hobart agina will certainly be down to spend the money and time being in this venue. Cheers Glen and the team on today for a great experience!!

Managed to get a last minute lunch booking and enjoyed the dining experience we had at Frank. Most of the dishes we tried were great. Fresh and full of flavour. Standouts were the grilled octopus 🐙, beetroot and rocket salad 🥗 (rocket was not bitter!), cola glazed pork belly was nice and crispy and of cause the cauliflower. Disappointing was the hanger steak, perhaps more so to do with our preference with the cut of steak? Anyway, it's one of the must try dining places in Hobart and it didn't disappoint.

Military Museums
The Maritime Museum of Tasmania, located in the Carnegie Building at Sullivans Cove, offers a comprehensive look into the nautical history of the state. The museum showcases the significance of seafaring in Tasmanian life, from indigenous maritime connections to early European exploration and 19th-century maritime industries like whaling. With over 70,000 objects including photography, art, historical artifacts, archives and intricate models, this museum provides an informative and immersive experience.
If you want to learn heaps about the history of maritime industrys in Tasmania, this is the spot. A neat museum with tones of modal ships that are hand crafted, There is stuff from back form whalers ships to the present day. And of course they have stuff on the Tasman bridge disaster of 1975 and the blythe star incident of 1973. For boating buffs here is your place to go nuts.
Reilley J — Google review
Taking someone who thinks a "bowline" is a type of pasta? That's a whole different kettle of fish. The museum itself is a gem. You've got everything from tiny rowing boats to massive steam engines, and enough maritime history to sink a battleship. And seeing it all through fresh eyes? It's like rediscovering a hidden stash of rum on a deserted island. If you're into ships, history, or just want to see some seriously cool old stuff, this place is a must-visit.

Walked in after lunch @Salamanca markets and spent 3 hours marvelling at a fine collection of old boat parts/relics of a 250 year maritime history from b4 settlement to wooden boatbuilding on the Huon and Derwent rivers and out at Port Arthur. The history goes thru the ages with convict trade, whaling and agriculture products, to modern times with the Hobart bridge diaster of 1975 and a small model of an Incat boat of which a new electric one is just being finished for handover 7 klms up the river.
Robert P — Google review
If you are interested in old sailing ships this is a great place to stop. Lots of models and stories on the two floors of exhibits. The have a Captain’s cabin configured for you to walk through and lots of salvaged items to show. Always went here for their amazing toasties and the best egg and bacon in hobart. But unfortunately now with change of ownership they've changed their whole menu! Still great staff and great coffee, but now we can't get our much loved toasties and not to mention their banana bread. 🥹
Daniel C — Google review
I unfortunately had a very bad service experience. I ordered 2 coffees (I was given to-go cups even though I was sitting down, but I didn't mind that). I sat down at the table which had the previous customers' dishes, but when I asked the staff if they could clear the table they told me "we aren't doing that for takeaway customers". Furthermore, the bench had cigarette butts and a dirty needle in between the slats which is quite frankly disgusting. I understand that the benches on the street may technically belong to the city, but this cafe's clients are regularly using the tables and leaving their dishes on it - Stagg has a duty to keep these tables and benches clean. Not impressed. The only upside is that the coffee was excellent, which is why I'm giving 2 stars.

Best toasties I've ever had. We got a variety of toasties with coffee for breakfast and it was phenomenal. There were a lot of seats outdoors and it was comfy-- perfect for enjoying winter in Hobart while watching the city bustle. Coffee was just as delicious and the service was great.

Explore the rich history of Hobart by taking a stroll along the Battery Point Sculpture Trail. This hour-long walk showcases nine large art pieces that symbolize various aspects of Hobart and Tasmania's past, such as weight, measurement, time, quantity, date or distance. Each sculpture tells a unique story about the region's history. Before embarking on this cultural journey, indulge in some waterfront fish and chips to fuel up for your leisurely amble.
Absolutely loved it! My husband and I felt like we were on the Amazing Race! It was so much fun looking for the sculptures and reading their history and the suburb of Battery Point is so pretty. Worth exploring when you are in Hobart.

A lovely walking trail of about 2 kms from the first sculpture to the last one, the 9th. This spot is the 1st one (1833) if you start from the city centre. A little bit of rolling terrain and some steep down and up hill on a couple spots but really give a great view from a different vantage point. I finished the trail by follow the St George parade to St George church then back to the city centre and that took me about 2 hours going at a leisure pace. A little histories and facts in each sculptures were quite interesting however the sculpture itself haven't really been maintained. There was a lot of fun in looking for the actual sculpture in some spots as well! Definitely a recommended trail to walk when you're in Hobart city!
Penny G — Google review
This is really not my cup of tea normally but thought I would give it a go. I did like it and enjoyed the walk. I started at the second station at the top of the hill. Some of the locations were a little trick which added to the enjoyment of trying to find them. I thought there were some other sculptures they could have added and made it longer. All in all it was a bit of fun, my wife and I enjoyed the journey.
Patrick — Google review
Not enough signs nor sculptures. It’s very unclear where to start or finish so we just made the most of our walk by checking out the houses and the views of the water but as far as a sculpture trail goes even 1 star is too generous!

Constitution Dock, located on the Derwent River in Hobart, is a bustling area with converted colonial buildings that house galleries, seafood restaurants, and shops. It holds historical significance as the location where Hobart's founding document was signed. The dock is also famous for being the finish line of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and features private yachts, fishing boats, historic buildings, and ships from past commercial activities.
Incredibly beautiful but gets insanely cold...even end of March which was when I visited. Wear a jacket and just absorb this spectacular view, breathe in the ocean, enjoy a whole heap of cafes and restaurants around. Elizabeth st pier is closeby and there's markets just outside the ferry terminal that has a good feed.

This is one of the landmark dock areas at the Franklin waterfront and Sullivans Cove area of Hobart. It includes a protected, rock wall marina with a small bridge for pedestrians, several monuments are around the dock as well as a few seafood restaurants. Constitution Dock is also noted for being the rallying point for the annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. It is a beautiful area well worth spending time to explore while visiting the Franklin waterfront area.

Spent a wonderful evening walking around Constitution Dock and Elizabeth St Pier. We managed to find a car park even though it was extremely difficult and were limited by the time given. Had wonderful seafood and saw seagulls in action; rushing for food a seconds after the diners leave their table, as well their bedroom antics. Unfortunately, we had to rush back to drive the car off and could not explore the area further.

Nice little bit harbour, but the great thing about this place is all the nice dining place around here. There are several great places right at the dock where you can sit down to have some drinks and food. Weather in Tasmania can be rainy and cloudy but in that case many places have a nice fireplace which feels nice and cosy too. I recommend staying at the MACQ1 right at the dock and get a room with a view over the water/dock - you'll love it!

The original venue boasts a multi-course chef's menu featuring top-quality Tasmanian produce prepared with inventive techniques. The restaurant is known for its stunning architecture and waterfront views as well as its commitment to collaborating with local producers. The loft-style eatery presents an ever-changing seasonal menu highlighting locally sourced seafood, meats, and dairy products.
Can we rate this place higher?! Riley was magnificent with service, looked after all our needs and dietary concerns. Swapped whatever was required and all non dairy items. Nothing was an issue. The set menu was absolutely stunning, each item was crafted and put together with care. Each service staff who brought out anything to our table knew their info on the dishes and was able to share everything with us. We were delightfully full at the end of the night. We didn't match the wines but chose a cocktail and glass of wine and that was enough. Luckily we got to sit at the window but it wouldn't have mattered the atmosphere is very warm, chilled and relaxed. Must book and get in early. Our sitting was at 5:30 and we thought it would be too early but for the amount of food it was good to eat early to then digest and enough a drink after dinner.

We were welcomed and attended to very warmly by staff. The food was amazing - utilising local fresh produce and highlighting them with food cultures around the world. Every dish has a strong presence or flavour profile, but yet unique. I would have liked something more subtle to punctuate the strong flavours. There’s nothing wrong with any particularly dish, just a preference to have a more balanced flavour profile from start to finish. Nonetheless, I will definitely recommend Aloft to others and I will definitely re-visit. On the way out, we were also acknowledged by the chef, which was a good touch on their part.

Absolutely incredible experience at Aløft. We flew into Hobart in the afternoon and this was a brilliant way to spend our first evening in Tasmania. We were given a window seat with a stunning view of the harbour and the entire restaurant was very atmospheric. All the servers were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I had the vegetarian tasting menu and I thought every single dish was impeccable. I also appreciated how there was some vegetarian protein (tofu) included in some of the dishes and it wasn't all just vegetables (unlike veggie tasting menus I've had in other restaurants!). I also liked how I was given the option to have the regular dessert instead of the vegan one if I was fine with eating gelatin (which I was). Overall, it was an amazing experience from start to finish and an incredible introduction to Tasmanian cuisine.

Seriously one of the best meals I've had in a very very long time. All local fresh ingredients, beautifully presented and in a stunning setting overlooking the sea. I was sat by myself at the bar and couldn't have been happier, watching the chefs work their magic and tell stories about each dish. I was very well looked after and I will definitely be back!

We visited Aloft as Melburnians where the food scene is thriving and this was one of the best meals we’ve had!! Starting with the staff who were all so down to earth and friendly - no pretentiousness here which we just loved. We couldn’t fault a single one of the dishes which all showcased local Australian produce with an Asian twist. All so flavorful and delicious, we were in heaven the entire evening. The price point is incredible for a 5-course degustation which actually feels like a 10 course because there are so many dishes included within each course. We will definitely be booking again if we return to Hobart!

One of the best restaurants in Hobart (might even be in whole Australia, for me at least). Dined alone and sat at the bar and everyone are really nice and accommodating. All the ingredients was locally sourced and the chefs had really good attention to detail, it is really cooked to perfection. The FOH staff talked me through how the night will go in terms of the menu. Highly recommend adding the scallops as it was one of the best ive had. Top 3 dishes for me on the set menu that night would be Koji Pork, Sashimi, and Scallop. Safe to say i enjoyed my visit and would visit again once im in Hobart.

We dined here for a birthday. The service was excellent and a lovely atmosphere. We were also satisfied with the wines. The food was well presented and there were some delicious items, however both my friend and I felt that too many of the dishes had similarly-flavoured very sweet and very salty sauces. We felt there was an overall lack of variety and balance in the flavour palate of the degustation.
Joel — Google review
My favorite dishes include: Lamb ribs Brisket Crispy eggplant However, the most memorable part of the meal was the palate cleanser before dessert, which wasn’t listed on the menu. Overall, everything was thoughtfully curated and perfectly executed.

Templo is a cozy Italian-inspired restaurant in North Hobart, offering a constantly changing menu that showcases the best of local produce. With just 20 seats, the intimate setting and communal tables create a casual neighborhood eatery vibe.
Visiting Hobart for January long weekend away (from Melbourne) and booked Sunday lunch at Templo. Opted to go alacarte as the munu (on a blackboard) was not huge but everything sounded tasty. It was Italian inspired plates, delivered one at a time, so best shared. Very honest, almost rustic food, showcasing mostly local and market style ingredients. the wine list (occupying 75% of said blackboard 🥂) is a fresh mixture of local, interstate and Italian wines, a lot of them quite unique and lesser known varietals/blends. The room is quite small, dominated by a round communal table with 5 or 6 smaller tables best for couples. Being a holiday weekend it was a very quiet lunch service which was enjoyable and relaxing with attentive service from the knowledgeable manageress. I imagine it would be a hectic and different vibe if it was busy, especially if a group was on the larger table. All the food was amazing, and we backed up with more cheese brioche and oysters for "dessert" 👍 Compared to Melb/Sydney I felt the prices were reasonable for the higher than average standard of food. We really enjoyed our lunch and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Templo. Three thumbs up 👍 👍👍

I found Templo on the world’s 50 best discovery list for Hobart, tbh it didn’t really meet that bar. I don’t recommend this spot if you’re a solo diner. The space is tiny, but charming - I was dining solo and was sat at the tiniest high top I’ve ever seen, there were two stools but you really couldn’t have fit two people. I found the table very uncomfortable. The wine by the glass list is lackluster, but there are some fine options. I found the pacing painfully slow, I was bored and anxious to leave by the fifth course, but I was also solo, it would have been different if I were with someone. The food is fine, just fine, not great. The oyster add on was good and the crab pasta was the stand out. The portions are small but plenty, much appreciated- you don’t leave feeling too stuffed. I wouldn’t return but can see how this would be a great date night spot. This meal was NOT worth the $120 I paid.

Reservations only. They only serve two settings a night with their 6 course meal. Great for celebrating special occasions. We were there for our 12 years anniversary and our minion’s 10 year-old birthday. Some of the food was a bit too sophisticated for the kid, but they certainly were delights for the grownups! We had a great time! Make sure you mark this place for your next special occasion.

Food is really good (a few standout dishes), but I wouldn’t say exceptional - especially for the price point. Restaurant itself has a great atmosphere and I love how intimate it feels. All in all I would recommend.

An awesome intimate, fun night out with amazing food. We went for dinner, my partner had the set menu, I had the vegetarian version- it was divine. Really great flavours, beautifully presented, not pretentious or OTT. I ate delicious risotto, polenta, braised cabbage & more all with beautiful sauces. I wasn't hungry or too full afterwards, meal sizes were perfect- 6 courses. Really great local and international wine selection also with good digestivos & beer selection. Staff were fabulous, attentive but gave us space. Great music, great vibe. The perfect balance of everything. Hobart at it's best.

Woooooowwwww. Our favourite meal in Tasmania after a week of eating our way around. Thank you to the chef for accommodating dietary needs and making the best gluten free pasta ever. Oh, and gluten free tiramisu. The carrot, beets and greens were another highlight. Even my carnivorous husband loved them! I think I'd fly to Hobart just to eat here again. it was that good!

We had four course lunch and the food was absolutely stunning. Each meal was well thought out, simple and flavorful, and the flavours are memorable. The risotto is sublime. It was delicious. The price was reasonable too given the high standard and quality of both food and hospitality. Standing ovation to the team at Templo. Highly recommend if you are coming to Hobart for hols - make sure you reserve a place to avoid disappointment on the day.

Located in Salamanca Place, the Parliament House in Tasmania is a historic Georgian building constructed in 1840. It was initially used as a customs house and later transitioned into serving as the parliament building. The structure, made of local sandstone by convict labor, offers guided tours twice a day on non-sitting weekdays. Visitors can explore its rich history and architectural significance while enjoying the central and easily accessible location.
Great place to hold the Lunar New Year celebrations. Lots of stalls and some good freebies. Entertainment is also great.

I've now done a tour at all 6 state parliaments and Tasmania is one of the best for both historical interest and beautiful architecture. The staff were very friendly and happy to answer any questions. You are allowed to take photos, even in the Speaker's and President's chairs! Each room visited is completely different from the previous one and has its own unique history. The Legislative Council chamber and the convict-built basement were my favourite parts. I also enjoyed learning about the unique features of Tasmania's political system compared to the other states. No need to book a tour as an individual visitor but do call ahead to confirm a tour is running as scheduled so you don't miss out on this amazing place.
Riley K — Google review
Centrally located and easily accessible to locals and tourists alike. Tours run twice a day on “non-sitting weekdays”(check the calendar online). We popped in the day before to ask about the tours and the receptionist both kindly explained the relevant information and also put down on the schedule to alert the guide we would be back the next day. Come a bit early to pass through an easy security check point (bag scan and metal detector). We were given a tour by Charles who immediately showed his knowledge and passion for all things Tasmanian heritage, beginning our tour in a gallery of government and cultural artefacts, explaining the history of the building itself. Highly recommend him as a guide. The tours are a great choice for a spare hour in the city for anyone interested in history, but also great as a primer on the system of government for new Tasmanians, foreign visitors, or children! Charles thoroughly explained the roles and proceedings of each house of parliament and how they pertain to the outcomes of government! (P.S., those on tours are welcome to take photos anywhere outside of the security/ entry reception)

Tasmania's Parliament House sits on the waterfront of Hobart. Originally built of the new colony's Customs House, it was converted into the houses of parliament in 1856. Obviously this building houses the House of Assembly and The Legislative Council. If you have the opportunity to be offered a tour, there is a wonderful little museum in the basement of the building with snippets of the buildings past. The main Reception Hall has been beautifully restored in recent years, and this is the the room you're most likely to attend if you visit.

Franklin Wharf Restaurant and Bar in Hobart has made headlines with its transition from David Moyle to Analiese Gregory, who brings her expertise from Bar Brose and other renowned establishments. The restaurant boasts a beautiful open kitchen, wood-fired oven, and the ability to grow its own produce, make cheese, and start a bread program.
Franklin Wharf Restaurant & Bar offers a delightful dining experience in Hobart. The atmosphere is stunning, with its waterfront views and cozy yet modern decor, making it perfect for any occasion. The food is exceptional—each dish is beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. Whether you’re indulging in their fresh seafood or savoring one of their signature dishes, the quality and taste are top-notch. The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring you feel welcomed from the moment you step in. A must-visit spot for anyone looking to enjoy excellent food in a vibrant yet relaxing setting. Highly recommended!

We came for an early dinner, our 3 year old loved his pasta and being able to see boats coming and going, we absolutely loved our truffle pizza and seafood chowder. Great cocktails, great service, and it was just what we needed after a long day of exploring.

We had the most amazing meal here! The seafood platter was absolutely delicious – so fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. The scallops and prawns were a standout, and the calamari was perfectly cooked and crispy. Portion sizes were generous, and everything came out looking incredible (and tasting even better!). The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the food and the service. Highly recommend this spot if you’re after fresh, top-quality seafood and a lovely dining experience.

Ok so there are 2 separate sections to this place, one where there is a bar with live music and a pub kind of feed and another section that is pricier and serves nicer fine dining type food. Oddly (which really needs updating by the venue) there is no menu or mention of the more expensive section in this place when you research it on Google maps, so when we booked, we expected to be going to eat some pub grub. When we arrived, we were actually booked in the fine dining section, but as this is the experience we were trying to book in at other places (booked out), we were ok with that. We had 2 cocktails to start and they were very nice. For food, we ordered the garlic infused roll (can’t remember the exact name) as a starter, Pork Belly main and the eye fillet. We have been to some pretty nice restaurants where we are from in Adelaide, but the pork belly was probably one of the best main meals I have ever had, and that says a lot. The fillet was also incredible. We both had an amazing dining experience and would 100% return the next time we visit. It’s a shame this place’s reviews are lower than 4, I suppose due to the bar and the lack of info on the restaurant part of it on google. It really does exceed this rating if you are going for the restaurant part of it.

Possibly the best quality food I’ve ever eaten in a restaurant, portions were perfect size and were cooked to perfection, service was excellent both from the bar and the kitchen.

A friend & I shared a gluten free vegetarian pizza (which sounded great). When it turned up it was only just warm, undercooked & had very few toppings (or cheese!). For $35, which included the additional $5 for the privilege of a GF base, I found it extremely poor (to be polite!). The venues atmosphere was lacking & the place was also quite cold. Not a great experience.

I ordered the "seafood buffet"and it was amazing. I would definitely order it again. Great customer service too.

Amazing venue! Live music on friday night. The place was bright, open and clean! We were dining early and didn't have a reservation, but the place looks to get busy, so could be useful to make a reservation if wanting to dine past 6pm. No shortage of staff and everyone was so helpful and attentive. The food was beautiful and fresh and the portions were massive! The drinks were amazing and cocktails were half price! I recommend the Tommy Margarita 👌 Vegetarian and vegan options available. High chair available. Beautiful views over the water.

The Army Museum of Tasmania is a captivating destination that immerses visitors in the rich tapestry of Australia's military history, particularly highlighting the contributions of Tasmanian soldiers and regiments. Housed in a former military jail dating back to the early 1800s, this community-owned museum offers an intimate look at various conflicts that have shaped Australia, including both World Wars, the Korean War, Vietnam War, and more recent engagements like those in Afghanistan.
Visited an hour prior to closing and what we read and saw was very interesting & informative. An extensive collection of articles & items (esp medals) housed in a small building of what used to be Hobart Girls Reformatory/Prison cells. It was just the 2 of us and we were escorted into the Barracks by Major Reeves who gave us a good insight into the history of the Barracks and its buildings. Thank you Sir, for your time and we hope you enjoy your holiday in Waiheke Island.

What a comprehensive collection of Aboriginal Art at Art Mob. We have been looking for a special piece of Art for our home and after searching in galleries in both Melbourne and Sydney we were so delighted to find two stunning paintings to have in our home back in Melbourne. Jo was so patient and helpful taking time to understand what we wanted and offered suggestions and presented paintings to consider. She made it such an enjoyable experience. Once we made our decision both Jo and David were so helpful organising the paintings to be shipped to our home. Thank you both for the great experience.

Don't buy anything here, it's so expensive. Two or three times more expensive than Adelaide galleries or WA galleries for the same paintings from the same artists... A 30x30cm painting for 400$ ??? really ??? I've seen the same for 130$ !!! What a joke ! I bought most of my paintings directly from the artist and others in good galleries in direct relation with artists. In all the cities you only find these kind of crazy prices. If you want real arts at real price, travel a bit in Australia ;)

A wonderful Tasmania local winemaker. We were lucky enough to be treated to our own exclusive tasting in Hobart, where we were treated to a Riesling, 2 Point noir options and a surprisingly delightful Shiraz. All light, refreshing and delicious, tasting is believing, highly recommended.

I loved this place. Set in an old factory just on the edge of Hobart City, this was our favourite tasting experience during our Tassie trip. It may be because Nick Glaetzer makes such excellent wines. He was very helpful in giving us an overview about Tasmania's wine regions, and telling us the story of his wines. The whites are beautifully textured and the reds are in my Top 10 favorite Australian wines to drink. If you like fuller Pinot Noirs with a bit more body and a savoury edge - you'll love this place. I only regret not buying more wine.

Loved the minimalist design of the tasting room, really enjoyed their Pinot noir and Riesling (we also got a little tour of the wine making facilities!). Free shipping is included with the purchase of over 6 bottles of wine, and they were delivered promptly and in excellent condition.

I now have a new found love for red wine because of him :) 100% recommend!

We had a really good experience with the Winemaker. He was very interesting to talk to about the history of his winemaking process. We purchased a couple of bottles of Riesling and Pinot Noir. Beautiful building of high quality. Rooms are quite large, tho bathrooms lack lighting as the colour scheme is dark. And I have to give a special mention to the manager, she was hands-on the whole time, super friendly and attentive. You can clearly see how her leadership makes everything run so smoothly. Everything was just perfect from start to finish. Highly recommended! 👏👏

My stay at Crowne Plaza Hobart was largely excellent, marred only by inconsistent front desk and housekeeping service. I was welcomed with a card and fruits in my room. The spacious room, with its delightful automatic blinds, was a highlight after long day trips. The king-size bed and perfectly firm pillows ensured great comfort and the decent shower water pressure was appreciated, though the lack of a shower door led to water splashing out; an odd design choice. Gym area is big and decently equipped. The breakfast team was outstanding, offering a varied menu starting at 6:30 AM, ideal for my early day trips. However the front desk and housekeeping disappointed. On my first night, I called to request cotton pads and slippers, but was told by a staff member they weren’t available; surprising, as other Crowne Plazas provide these. The next day, another staff member confirmed availability and promised delivery, but nothing arrived even I waited till fall asleep. Only after I insisted on waiting at reception the following day were the items promptly provided to me in person! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Preeti, the hotel manager is fantastic as is Anisha who supervises the food and beverage on the main floor. Rooms are very good. Club access, a must. Food is excellent across the facility. The only negative is the, at times daily room refresh. Still, that can be worked out as it was for us. Highly central in the heart of the CBD. I like the Crowne Plaza, Hobart. Would I recommend it? If the inconsistency in service delivery can be worked on then a definite yes. Another issue is a nightclub next door. Operstes all night, Fridays, Saturdays and Tuesdays. Not a good look if sleep is what you need. 😳

I stay here regularly as part of my work commitments and this place is like my home away from home. The staff are so friendly, welcoming and efficient, with the lovely manager always greeting me by name and having a chat. Handwritten welcome notes for being a repeat visitor are a great touch, as are the occasional treats they leave in my room! The beds and pillows are so luxurious and comfortable and provide a great sleep. Any unforeseen maintenance issues are dealt with quickly and professionally. Great place to stay

A Perfect Birthday Escape at Crowne Plaza Hobart We stayed at Crowne Plaza Hobart for two nights to celebrate my birthday and were absolutely delighted with the experience. The Premium King room was spacious and beautifully designed, with a strong connection to nature — the tree motifs and natural tones created a calming, grounded atmosphere. The little touches made it feel luxurious and modern: lights that turned on automatically as we walked in, curtains that opened themselves each morning to reveal a glorious view of the Derwent River, and a deep, stunning bath perfect for relaxing. The king-size bed was incredibly comfy — I slept so well! Valet parking was prompt and effortless, and the service throughout the stay was friendly and professional. Every detail felt thoughtful and elevated the experience. The buffet breakfast was generous and offered a wide selection. Highly recommend for a relaxing Hobart getaway or a special occasion. I’ll definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our stay. Had breakfast at the club lounge, ordering eggs Benedict from the menu - it was delish! Cooked by Ash, the chef, who was very hospitable and friendly. Excellent service overall.

Great hotel. Good value for 💰. Hard case though, as a valued member (so i was told) of the hotel chain, on arrival I got upgraded to a club lounge room, nice start. However, in next breath, got told upgrade didn't actually come with lounge access! You win some, you lose some! Good hotel.

For the most part this was a 5 star experience for me. Big comfy room, nice view of the city, fantastic food, and nice club lounge set up. But a few things knock that last star off. Like dirty drinking glasses in my room. A lounger with an ingots stain on it. An odd shower set up. Then the final thing when checking my receipt to leave there were many extra charges that needed to be taken off. Mainly due to the mini bar, which after depleted of most items, I had to call to get it restocked. Luckily I learned from other hotels to keep track of what I take. Another thing is some of the mini bar stuff you can get in the club lounge for free, so they should just comp those items or not or then in your room. The location is right next to the mall, it's surrounded by ATMs, massages, great shopping, and plenty of food. Plus, under pick up and drop off is easy. The TV had limited channels, but you can stream from your phone to the TV. That always overrides the local offerings for me. The shower set up is odd and guarantees water will travel into the normal bathroom area. When you lock the door to your room or automatically turns on do not disturb mode. For me this made it odd, if I lock my door then needed something from room service as they won't disturb you. I did like the controls for the windows and lights and the heating and cooling was fast responding. I would stay here again. This hotel may have the best cooked room service for I ever had. Everything I ordered i loved.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Hobart, Vibe Hotel Hobart is a stylish retreat that perfectly marries modern luxury with convenience. Just a short stroll from iconic attractions like Constitution Dock and Salamanca Market, this polished hotel offers guests an array of amenities including an inviting indoor pool and a well-equipped fitness center. The chic on-site restaurant serves delightful meals, while room service is available for those who prefer to dine in.
What a wonderful experience—just the night away my partner and I needed! As young parents, we don’t often get time to ourselves, so when we do, it’s incredibly valuable. The Vibe Hotel made it absolutely worth it. The food was simple yet fresh and delicious, and the service was outstanding. The staff truly are a vibe themselves—friendly, welcoming, and full of energy. The pool and gym facilities looked amazing too; unfortunately, I didn’t pack my gear this time, but I’ll definitely come prepared next time! This hotel exceeded our expectations. Thank you for accommodating us—we’re already talking about our next visit and will definitely be booking with you again. If I could offer one small suggestion, it would be to add a bit more variety to the mini bar and maybe reconsider the pricing on those items. That said, it’s a minor point and didn’t take away from the amazing experience you created for us. What a real vibe 😎

Amazing experience at the Vibe Hotel brand & this did not disappoint. Great location central to everything, walking distance to the harbour, tourist centre & mall. Hotel staff were friendly as always & the standard room had ample room for 2 adults. The lady at reception Prerna is extremely helpful . She above her job as you can see the passion for customer service. Very very helpful and pleasing personality specially when you enter the hotel. She is very caring for all customers . Rooms are spacious and very well designed . The view is top class

Great location only a few minutes walk to Constitution Dock, Salamanca Markets, many shops & food places, right next door to a supermarket. My room was lovely, spacious & very clean. The lobby bar/cafe is great for sitting in front of the fire. I dined there and night and my salmon dish was delicious. All staff members were very courteous and helpful. I will definitely stay again when I next in Hobart.

I stayed here in October 2025. My room was very comfortable, good bed, great pillows. Nice items in the mini bar. Hotel is in an excellent location only a short walk to the harbour. Staff service was impeccable, prompt, cheerful, efficient. The only downside for me was the breakfast - it was hard to find small choices. I ordered toast and jam and got three huge slices, way too much. Next day I tried scrambled egg on one toast, slightly better, but the sourdough toast was very hard to eat, extremely tough crusts I could hardly cut, the bread itself spongey and unattractive. Perhaps more small choices could be offered. Another odd thing was that the aircon in my room - 804 - only worked when the bathroom light was switched on. Maybe the wiring needs looking at. Otherwise, a decent comfortable hotel.

What an incredible hotel! Everything about it was amazing. It’s right in the center of Hobart and walking distance to Salamanca and the marina. The hotel has cool vibe and it was so modern and clean. The room was luxurious and spacious and so comfortable! The staff was great too! I found this hotel for a great deal on Expedia. I felt like I got a 5 star experience for a 3 star price.

Wow what a great hotel. Really nice bar and dining area near the lobby. Super friendly and professional staff. One staff member even lent me a lighter to go have a puff outside. Rooms are spacious and quiet. Climate control is excellent. I had a really nice espresso martini at the bar and got a pizza from Uber with no issues being delivered to the lobby. Just a great stay. Will definitely stay again.

I met a friend in The Belvedere Restaurant Lounge area and enjoyed fresh oysters in the shell - part of a Thu, Fri, Sat 4pm - 6pm 'happy hour' promotion. (As at August 2025.... Call to establish if this deal is still on). At just $2 each these were superbly fresh and great value. Recommended. They reported the rooms were great, the service from all staff above what she expected.

Nestled in the heart of Hobart, The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is an exquisite blend of history and modern luxury. This stunning hotel spans three distinct buildings—an Art Deco gem, a Heritage structure, and a contemporary Pavilion—creating a unique architectural experience. Guests can enjoy airy rooms and suites that offer breathtaking views of the city and waterfront. Just steps away from vibrant Salamanca Market and MONA ferries, it’s perfectly situated for exploring Hobart's culinary delights.
Just completed overnight stay at the Tasman. The staff were all lovely. The room was their cheapest but still had plenty of space, views of the water and everything felt high quality, very new and very clean. Had drinks in their cocktail bar, great atmosphere and awesome selection of drinks. Didn’t have dinner in the restaurant but ate breakfast there the next morning. Probably the best hotel breakfast I’ve had in a long time.

The Background: - Stayed for 5 nights in September 2025 - Voted one of the world’s 50 Best Hotels in 2034 - Not the most luxurious hotels I have been in but it’s definitely comfortable. - Front Desk, Concierge and Receptionist are very friendly and efficient The Good: - Beautiful rooms with high ceiling and plenty of space in the room - The closet has a LOT of hangers which are useful when you are traveling with 2 boys - The buffet doesn’t have a lot of selections but what they do serve is quality ingredients - The buffet (which is also a restaurant called Peppina) is beautiful and very relaxing to enjoy your breakfast in - The gym, while on the smaller side has dumbbells and cable machine and quite a number of treadmills. Pretty much all you need to keep up with your fitness needs while traveling. The Bad: - I found it difficult to ask anything to be sent into the room. Things are either very slow or didn’t come at all - During one of our breakfasts, one of the glass cup broke while my son was drinking milk. Fortunately, he did not swallow or bit the broken pieces. Obviously we were surprised and panicked. We got most of the broken bits out of his mouth and at this point a few tables next to us already saw it. We told one of the servers about it and her response was simply “oh, does he need anything?” A few minutes later, the same server came and asked us if she can see the broken bits and cup. She then said she will take it away and that was that. We were not asking to be compensated or anything of the sort, but their reaction made us feel like we were being swept under the rug. Even a simple “are you ok?” would have been fine. The Conclusion: - Other than the breakfast incident above, the hotel was comfortable and provides all the facilities that you need. The breakfast could do with more selections but whatever they have to offer probably won’t disappoint you in quality.

A slow-moving tragedy FOOD Peppina Pantry breakfast: 4 years ago, I said that the $45 Peppina pantry experience would not work. And I was correct. Now it has been vastly scaled down in the worst way. My previous review is here. I have put some before and after photos here but what particularly appalled me, (and I still can’t get my head around) is the breakfast condiments such as Vegemite and peanut butter in jars with knives in them for people to help themselves. Yes, you read right. Open jars of spreads on display with knives stuck in them in a 5-star hotel. Previously they were all little jars of jam and vegemite that you could grab, which is usually the case for all 5-star hotels and restaurants. From a hygiene and sanitation point of view it wasn’t a good look for a hotel that markets itself as luxury.. OUR ROOM We stayed in a Tasman Double room which was adequate. A few things to note, there are no menus in the room, everything is on the TV and not easy to find. The mini bar was also abysmally small in comparison to our last visit. Electrical issues: As before we had issues with the electrics in our room. Within 30 mins of checking into our room, the blinds came down, the curtains closed, and the lights turned off without warning. I was in the bathroom, and my daughter was sitting on the bed. Neither of us were touching the wall panels controlling the lights & blinds situated on either side of both beds. The hotel sent an electrician who said he would tell the Manager in charge and that was it. Heard nothing our entire stay. We were only there for 4 nights and didn’t fancy moving so we left it, but still, this is a 5 Star hotel. Room service charge: We were charged $25 for room service delivery. Which was utterly appalling and wasn’t listed on their TV menu. Room Cleaning: unlike last visit the room was not cleaned on Sunday which was a surprise. And when we did arrive back at 3pm one day, the cleaner was inside and told us to basically go away and wait elsewhere. At 3pm. Mary Mary bar: The bar menu has changed since our last visit and wasn’t as interesting. They are also closed on Sunday night. The ambience of the bar is now gone unfortunately. The staff couldn’t have cared less. I expect better than this. CONCLUSION For a 5-star luxury hotel there are just so many things lacking. There were no special touches, no bed turn down, no chocolates on the pillow, none of the touches one would and should expect at a luxury hotel. No one cared that our hotel room had a malfunctioning wall panel. There is no pool, sauna or spa. And don’t start me on the Peppina Pantry Performance or the outlandish costs of eating at the restaurant. The vibe since our last visit has completely changed. It was abundantly clear to me that Marriot is cost cutting at the hotel because many things have either been removed, stopped or downgraded – nothing opened on Sunday, no room cleaning on Sunday either and the offerings in the rooms were decidedly dull and lacking. The Marriot markets The Tasman as a luxury hotel, part of their Luxury Collection. And it is absolutely not luxury. As always, the reception and concierge are great but that’s as far as it goes. Nothing else at this hotel is worth the money. It’s sad because this hotel held such promise on our first visit after they opened just 3 months prior. A slow-moving tragedy and a downward spiral is how I would describe the feeling I got during this stay. Stay at your own peril.

My family had a wonderful stay at The Tasman Hotel. The food was excellent, beautifully prepared and full of flavor. The rooms are spacious, modern, and very comfortable, making it a truly relaxing place to stay. The only small downside is that it can be a bit noisy at night, which light sleepers might notice. I would especially like to highlight Luke. He is incredibly professional, always greeting us with a warm smile, and handling everything with great care and attention. His friendliness and professionalism truly made our stay even more enjoyable. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this extraordinary hotel to others.

Lovely heritage venue, spacious rooms and great F&B options. Great location too. Really enjoyed our 5 night stay as a family. My only complaint is they repeatedly gave us two towels each night, even though we were 4 pax.

We had a truly wonderful stay at The Tasman. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and attentive, and the property itself is stunning, with beautifully maintained buildings. The dining experience was outstanding, with restaurants that exceeded expectations. We were delighted to receive an upgrade to one of the finest rooms I have ever stayed in. As a long-time Marriott guest, formerly a Platinum member for many years and now a Gold member. I was thoroughly impressed with our experience and look forward to returning.

Room, rated 2 stars - Spacious and comfortable. - lots of maintenence issues 1) Shower door couldn't fully close 2) Shower water temperature was difficult to keep consistent-likely due to the faucet shifting during use. 3) The heating system was problematic: it made constant noise, and one night there was a loud bang that woke me up. It was also difficult to maintain a comfortable room temperature throughout the stay. (For comparison, Hilton Melbourne did not have this issue.) - Automatic curtains were a nice and convenient touch. Cleanliness, rated 3 stars - The main reason I gave only 3 stars was the granite countertop—it was covered in glass stains and marks, which gave a poor first impression. Staff, rated 3 stars due to front desk - Concierge and bell staff were excellent—every one of them was professional and welcoming. They went out of their way to help guests. - Housekeeping staff were courteous and polite. - Front desk, however, was inconsistent. About half of the team was exceptional, while the other half fell far below expectations. The staff members, who were not up to the mark, simply neglected guests. And they were not keen on engaging or assisting at all. On the positive side, the exceptional front desk staffs made a real difference. They greeted guests and went out of their way to assist guests. For example, when one staff member helped me cancel a restaurant reservation reminded me that many restaurants were to be closed on Mondays. Another gave helpful advice about airport security changes and suggested I allow extra time for my departure. Final Thoughts The front desk is a critical part of any hotel experience. For a property ranked among the top 50 hotels in the world, this kind of inconsistency is surprising and disappointing.
Victor M — Google review
My partner and I stayed here for two nights in one of the suite rooms and were very disappointed with the overall experience. The water pressure was extremely poor, making showers uncomfortable, and bathroom amenities were not replenished daily despite being in a suite. The noise proofing is terrible — we could clearly hear the TV from the room next door late into the night, which made it difficult to sleep. Breakfast was mediocre, and our coffee orders were repeatedly missed. To make matters worse, the valet parking service misplaced our car and called us multiple times asking where it was — a very unprofessional and stressful experience. For the price and rating of this hotel, we expected much better quality and service. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning or recommending it to others

Sonny is a popular pocket-sized wine bar overseen by local sommelier Alister Robertson. The blackboard wine list features a selection of fizzy, white, and red wines with a natural lean towards local and international choices. The menu offers small plates such as oysters, toast with various toppings, and handmade pasta. With its sleek ambiance and vinyl spinning in the background, Sonny is an ideal spot for snacking or turning it into a full dinner experience.
Truly excellent spot. Visiting from NYC and there is just something special about this place - I wish there was a way to capture this vibe and bring it back to the city. Had a great chilled red, and the green tomato + anchovy toast was a treat. Loved the records they were playing and service was great. It’s a small place, so you’re gonna want to show up right when they open, or within 15-30 minutes to get a seat (especially on a weekend). Worth a stop in Hobart!

Vibes and music were impeccable, and the staff were absolutely wonderful and accommodating. Food was prepared fresh and we had good recommendations for the wine (see: mystery wine on the menu!) Apart from the alcoholic options there was also a very delicious non-alcoholic cider from PRAH that we’ve been unable to find at any other bar / restaurant since.

Just went here tonight! The food was terrific. Full of flavour, simple but also complex at the same time, so tasty! Staff were all so friendly and bad a good vibe going. They were so helpful in choosing wines and food (in particular this one waitress who helped me choose a wine and carefully went through the menu and helped with portioning sizing). Atmosphere was great. It's small, but it's cosy at the same time. Would 100% recommend and would definitely come again!

Good vibes, great service and nice cocktails. Oysters were yum but the other food was quite average for a pescatarian. About a 45 minute wait to get seated. Would recommend for a few drinks and some bar snacks over dinner.

A very nice hotel with well set up little apartments, with nice touches like a balcony (although metal screens blocked the view a bit). The staff were very friendly and helpful. They have a car stacker, which holds 14 cars and is a marvel. However, be warned that if you arrive after reception closes then you will need to find street parking, which on a Fri night (as we had) is almost impossible. After cruising around for 30mins we found a spot. Sadly it was on the very spot the Sat Salamanca Market is held and we copped a $200 fine as our vehicle was towed. Such is life. It is a very central location though.

Extremely Disappointing – Misleading Booking and Rude Staff Our booking at Salamanca Wharf Hotel included on-site parking, which was one of the main reasons we chose it. But when we arrived, there was no parking available. After a long day of travel, we called the after-hours staff—only to be met with rudeness, no solutions, and eventually they hung up on us. We felt completely helpless that we left and booked a room at another hotel. This completely soured an otherwise amazing trip to Tasmania. For the price, this level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. Would absolutely not recommend.

Recently stayed in this contemporary, clean and chic hotel on two occasions. A couple of nights in a standard room with a fully equipped kitchen, and another couple of nights in one of the penthouses, very spacious with a huge stand-alone bath in the bedroom, and a washer/dryer in the bathroom. The penthouse had floor to ceiling wall to wall glass which had lovely views of the nearby park. Trees growing close to the window wall attracted a myriad of birds. We were there in July, so we needed the a/c on permanently, it does take a while for the penthouse to warm up, just be patient. Salamanca Square, all the docks, Battery Point shore line, Death by Chocolate 💖 😉, Parliament Square, all easy walking distance and just wait till you see the undercover car storage system 👌. And now I want to live in the penthouse!

Highly recommend the Salamanca Wharf Hotel. Full amenities, king sized bed, kitchen, large bathroom. Only improvements i could suggest. Larger dining table. The one in the room was to small. Has off street parking. I didn't use it due to the height of my car. Cafe below was always packed with people. At night walking distance to an awesome steakhouse.

Very Disappointing – No Parking, Rude After-Hours Staff We booked the Salamanca Wharf Hotel for a weekend trip to the Salamanca Markets, and chose it specifically because parking was included—something we paid for in advance. However, when we arrived around 5pm, there was no parking available. When we called the after-hours staff for help, we were shocked at how rude and unhelpful they were. They offered no solution, no alternative parking options, and instead of trying to assist us, they hung up on us mid-call. It was an incredibly frustrating experience, especially after a long day of travel and with no clear idea of where to park in a very busy area. The hotel’s lack of preparation and poor customer service completely soured our stay. If you’re booking here expecting parking or even basic courtesy, be warned—you might be left dealing with unprofessional staff and no help at all. Not what you'd expect from a hotel at this price point. Would not stay here again

Hobart City Apartments are located in the CBD and close to cafes, take away and stores. Our room was huge and had a great stovetop / sink / refrigerator area. Be sure to pay ahead for parking. There is a fee for washer / dryer, but someone had left detergent and a drying rack for us to use during our stay.

Our studio was big, clean, and had a kitchen with stove, bowls, cutlery, toaster, microwave, dish washer, fridge. Foo at the front desk is very friendly and helpful to everyone. The staff seems to take pride in serving others. The location is perfect, near all the shops, pharmacy, cafes, couple clinics if you need. The front doors lock for safety reasons during curfew. Only negative is that our floor on the 6th and room smelled like sewage most days.

We stayed in the 3 bedroom penthouse, which was spacious, clean, and in a great central city location. The Malaysia restaurant next door is also delicious! The only small negative was that we were too warm (strange in Hobart) but really just needed lighter doona options that weren't available. Otherwise, a top-notch stay with friendly accommodating, staff.

First time staying in Hobart and I am so glad I chose Hobart City Apartments. Everything was in walking distance I.e food, shops, Salamanca, Woolworths etc. It felt safe and clean. The Queen Studio room was super nice, very clean and tidy. The staff were extremely friendly and did us a solid by booking us an extra night last minute when something unexpectedly came up. We booked ahead and secured a parking spot which was handy. Also, the restaurant Taste of Malaysia is right outside reception and was delicious, so good that we ate there several times. Overall, a really good experience and will definitely stay again on our next trip.

We discovered this place thanks to Hobart market! The waitress was very nice, the baked camembert was good ! We were expecting some free testing but it did not happened for us unfortunately. The experience is nice but overpriced in comparison with other place we have been to in Tasmania.

OH.....MY.....GOD !!!!! I've had chocolates everywhere I've travelled and I must say that theese chocolates are the best so far and I'm not just saying that because I'm a local . So smooth , tasty the flavours are so strong . The raspberry champagne is absolutely perfect. To pick 1 is impossible . The service from the young lady was outstanding, polite, freindly, well spoken and knowledgeable about the product. Definitely will purchase again . Will be buying some cheese next time aswell . The chocolates though, MY GOD 🎆🎇😋🤤

Dark Mofo is one of the most unique and talked-about arts festivals in Australia, held in Hobart. The event features offbeat theatre productions, light shows, classic films, and late-night openings of MONA. It's a must-see experience with a sea of red lighting and fire elements that create a stunning atmosphere. Visitors can also enjoy the Dark Mofo food festival with amazing food, wine, and distillers.
Much anticipated and very happy with my experience. Lots of Tassie local eats and drinks, lots of warm fire pits and flaming towers. Live music with folky vibes. Buzzing atmosphere. Water station to keep hydrated. Top recommendations: the cheesecake and the apple pie. A night out was expensive, but I enjoyed supporting the locals. ❤️

Dark Mofo 2025 is getting seriously wild in Hobart this year 🔥🖤 There’s this massive sound art thing called “Every Jewel Reflects Every Other Jewel” 🎶 — and they’re blasting it across the city using the emergency speaker system 🚨🥲. Like, actual public warning speakers. It’s playing over a 7km stretch through the city. It’s weird, loud, intense… and honestly, kinda awesome 💫. But wait — that’s not even the weirdest part 😂. The entire city has turned red 🔴. I’m talking glowing red lights everywhere 💡, red-themed menus 🍝🍷, bold art popping up in windows 🖼️, and random red installations you stumble on while just walking to get a coffee ☕. It’s chaotic, a little eerie, but super cool 🌃✨. And now, the Winter Feast is in full swing 🍖🔥. Imagine wandering around Hobart’s waterfront at night, music playing 🎧, fire pits crackling 🔥, steam rising from your food 🌫️, and every single stall serving something delicious 😍. There’s bao buns 🥟, grilled seafood 🐙, wild meats 🦘, fancy desserts 🍦, and drinks that warm your soul 🥃. It’s cold 🧣, it’s strange 🥲, it’s full of surprises 🎭 — but that’s what makes Dark Mofo magic. You’ll probably leave with smoky hair, full belly, frozen fingers… and a big dumb grin on your face 😄❤️. Yeah look, it’s Dark Mofo – it only comes ‘round once a year, so of course the food 🍽️ and booze 🍷’ll cost ya a bit. But every bite and every drop comes with full-blown art 🎨, fire 🔥, noise 🎶, and weirdness 👀 (in the best way). It’s not just a feed and a drink – it’s a whole bloody experience. Cheers 🍻 for the winter madness ❄️ – we love it!

Dark Mofo, a must-see on any bucket list. A sea of red with great lighting with the added fire element. Visited with the family and we all enjoyed. Only downside was misinformation by some stallholders on cup return as it was only $2.50 back from purchasing the $6 glass.

Gorgeous centrepiece of beautiful Hobart. One of the city’s main drawcards is its beautiful wharf area on the Derwent. I really enjoyed wandering around the docks admiring the astounding variety of boats and yachts while snacking at one of the many dining area on the cove. Fantastic spot to photograph the city’s riverfront and Mt Wellington.

Beautiful apartments, but unfortunately, the most important aspect (the beds) were a huge letdown. The beds are as hard as rock! We left with sore backs and needed appointments to see our chiropractor. Would not recommend

Historically, this is the landing site for the European settlers which would make Hobart their home back in 1804. It is refers to the entire waterfront area from Hunter Street down to Salamanca Place. Today you will find several piers, docks, memorial monuments, seafood restaurants, wharfs lined with yachts and interesting historic buildings, creating an enjoyable and atmospheric waterfront area to spend time in Hobart. Note: There are some panels with information related to the first arrivals, the founding of Hobart and early industry of the wharf area next to the Founding of Hobart Monument at Hunters Street and Franklin Wharf. These are worth a few minutes to read if interested in the history of the early days of those who first arrived at Sullivans Cove.

I visited the temporary tasting room at Cascades and went to find it, but I had to ask. Once inside it was a lovely spot for a tasting. I was met by Megan, who looked after my needs. Due to my wife having a bad knee she was unable to make it up the stairs or to walk the extended route to the rooms. We were provided with a tasting at the Cascade tables thus enabling us to enjoy the experience. And as usual the whisky never disappoints. My suggestion

Takeout Restaurant
Located on Elizabeth Street Pier in Hobart, Fish Frenzy is a popular eatery known for its delicious fish and chips, grilled seafood options, and stunning views of the picturesque marina. The restaurant offers famous seafood chowder and Pier Platter selections, providing a delightful dining experience. Additionally, the waterfront city of Hobart boasts other notable seafood restaurants such as Mures Lower Deck and Flippers.
Great fish and chips. We ordered beer battered flake, three calamari and chips. It was enough to share, as we’d sampled some food at the nearby markets. There is seating inside and outside the eatery. They are licensed and also provide self service bottles of water and cups. The calamari was excellent and the tartare sauce was included in the price.
GetUsThereAlready — Google review
Ordered the flake and the salt and pepper calamari. The calamari were good. Above average and satisfying but not mind blowing. Greek salad was fresh and delicious as well, a good addition to the meal. However, the flake was a standout. A real light but also "meaty" taste with a gentle ocean flavour that wasn't overly salty. Served as 2 steaks that were cooked perfectly and fell apart while eating. Ordered with the beer batter which was very light and not like a thick "dagwood dog" style batter Chips were also above average, not greasy and sickening but once again, not mind blowing but plentiful in each serve. Friends said their oysters were fantastic. Fresh flavour with the perfect consistency though they do admit that June is the right time of year to eat them. Staff are very friendly and helpful when ordering and tartare sauce is free, unlike a lot of modern restaurants. Sauce is also light and tangy and not overly creamy. Price is a bit on the steep side but they literally have a restaurant sticking out of the ocean and their food is very well made. I would recommend a visit if you're after a fish meal that won't leave you feeling an Exxon Valdez spill.
Tim W — Google review
First time coming here but had wanted to try them for quite awhile. It was busy but managed to get a table. Decided on the two pieces of flake and chips which came to just over $30. Ordering was easy enough and didn't have to wait too long considering the amount if people they were busy with. The fish were juicy thick pieces and the chips were delicious. Nothing to go crazy over but certainly not a let down.
Peter V — Google review
The prawns were absolutely delicious—fresh, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. I genuinely loved them, and they were the highlight of my meal. The fish were tasty too. The staff service was average, but I would not call it poor. The lady serving us seemed a little uninterested or tired, though that is understandable. Everyone can have a bad day, and the place was extremely busy when we visited. The wait time for our order was slightly longer than expected, but again, considering how crowded it was, it made sense. The location is excellent, right on the waterfront with easy access and beautiful views.
Alvin K — Google review
This place was tucked away on the side of one of the piers which is currently undergoing some renovations. We had been told good things so we were excited to try it out. Everything was absolutely beautiful - chips were fried to perfection with a light golden brown crust. Top them off with copious amounts of salt and vinegar and you are set. Kids enjoyed the fish & chips and calamari & chips also which they sometimes won't eat....they scoffed the whole thing here. I often complain to my other half when we get fish and chips out and about. I'm Irish so I grew up with good fish and chips by the beach. This is only the second time in 14 years in Australia have I said wow that's just like home 👏 we will definitely be back on our trip and future trips.
Ryan W — Google review
The fish and chips at this Hobart waterfront gem are exceptional—fresh, yummy, and perfectly cooked. We sampled all three menu options: mixed fish, flake, and the fish of the day, Pink Ling. The flake stood out as the best, especially for Asian tastebuds, with its mild, non-fishy flavor and delicious texture. The crumbed calamari was a highlight—soft inside, crispy outside, and simply divine. Eating by the waterfront, basking in the vibrant atmosphere and pleasant weather, made the experience unforgettable!

The pork and fennel sausage roll is honestly so good. The flavors are spot on, the pastry is golden and flaky, and you can tell a lot of care went into making it. On top of that, the way it’s presented makes it feel extra special – it looks just as good as it tastes.

Have walked passed so many times but never at the right times. So last weekend I planned it better and went here for breakfast. Very cute interior and the staff is super friendly and efficient. The coffee is good and I loved the menu with all dishes including local ingredients..so hard to choose. I went with the mushroom baked eggs and it waa divine. The cakes and pastries looked great too and I could have sat there all day eating my way through it all..but that will be for another day as I will definitely come back.

A posh cafe in Hobart, we sat here to have breakfast before heading to Port Arthur. They tick all the boxes for me, from the interior which they put a lot of effort on to look really beautiful. I had the chicken creamed leek taragon pie and boy it was a real treat, so creamy, so tasty and I enjoyed every mouthful. Hubby had the butternut pumpkin fritta and he loved it. I got the almond croissant to go and man it was so delicious, dense, not too oily and perfect amount of filling. The soy chai latte was perfectly creamy. I loved this place. It is clean, quiet and the staff are friendly and courteous. 5 stars all the way.

While on holiday we had to do our washing, what an amazing place to do so! A staff member told my dad that the difference about this place is that the owner runs it on love, which you can definitely feel! Thank you for having us.

What a powerhouse of a cafe. This was a pleasant surprise today. Filled with vibes as it was literally filled with customers when I got her in a Tuesday at around 1pm. Seemed to have a mix of locals and tourists and the meals are excellent. I had mushrooms on toast and realised afterwards that I could downsize to a smaller size which I’ll most likely do in future as the meals are super large which is great if your coming with a huge appetite. However as I’m not a massive eater I look forward to slightly smaller portion so will definitely be back. Only downside is there were not any PowerPoints for my laptop as this was a recommendation from Gemini for somewhere to work on my laptop. So more of a come eat then go somewhere else. However big thumbs up on food and vibes!

We dropped into Room for a Pony on our last night in Tasmania and couldn’t have picked a better spot to finish our trip. We ordered a couple of wood-fired pizzas – the Margherita and the Pepperoni – and both were absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and just the right amount to satisfy myself, my wife, and our daughter. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were genuinely lovely. I was especially impressed by the bar staff – the guy working the bar gave me some great Tassie beer recommendations, and the Spotty Dog beer hit the spot perfectly. My wife really enjoyed her mulled wine too – just what we needed on a cold Tassie night. What really stood out was the friendly service – the guy who served us even gave us a few tips on things to see and do while we’re in town, which we really appreciated. If we were staying longer, we’d absolutely be back. Highly recommend!

The cathedral boasts outstanding architecture with stained glass windows and wooden beams. It offers regular services and features a small museum area as well as seasonal religious events. Visitors can enjoy the cathedral's Georgian style design and take in its beauty from Murray Street.
This is a beautiful cathedral. There are two entrances, one is via the bell tower and a corridor or through the front entrance. Interesting layout with the tower not part of the main church. The architecture is lovely. There is a mixture of original and contemporary stained glass. The carved wooden screen is lovely. A peaceful and contemplative space to spend some time. Also there is a fabulous shop inside which specialises in hand knitted items and especially beanies.

I also read runes, write letters to kali, see symbols from gaia and ancestors, am a yogi, curious in jesus. I dont want to offended anyone with my artistic interpretation of these beautiful stainglass illustrations at st davids cathedral. I will take them down if i do. Id love to learn how to make my own. The apartments are beautifully furnished and range from 1 to 4 bedrooms.
It's a fantastic spot to stay right on the wharfs with nice views. The 2 bedroom apartment was very upmarket and as we didn't hire a car for our stay, it was easy to walk everywhere. There are so many places to eat. The bed was very comfy too. Highly recommend this one.

Affordable for a 2 bedroom apartment. Close to the wharf area. Somehow the actual apartments are a little bit clinical inside though so it's not exactly homy. The lighting was interesting, struggled to get much quality light, for some reason it was dim. You get some good views of the city and some of the water. There was plenty of space for a family in the penthouse apartment. My friend got the huge king room so that is definitely the pick. If the apartment was more soundproof it would definitely improve my rating. Plus my bathroom (the 2nd bathroom) smelled so I kept trying to run water etc as it smelled septic like. This definitely brought my rating down.

Excellent apartments right in the heart of the historic waterfront. A little bit of a hike to get into from street with a number of security doors and fobs - but maybe that’s a good thing. Overall the rooms were superb in the 3 bedroom apartment we had with the master hosting stunning views and the servants quarters well appointed albeit a bit warm ;) Would highly recommend the apartment for families and groups with excellent kitchen facilities and lounge/living areas.

We stayed in one of the IXL penthouses and I was very pleasantly surprised how lovely the property was, while being good value for money compared to the usual/chain/shoebox sized accom options. It was so spacious with great views and very easy to live in. Everything we needed was supplied. Very happy with our choice.

We stayed in the IXL loft apartments - admirals room.. the apartments themselves are pretty good - double bed not so good - they should change them out for queen or king. Location was great too Service on checkin was pretty bad - couldn’t checkin at 2 for ages - which wasn’t great, given they were insistent on knowing when we were coming

The building they made us stay was very conveniently located to the pier, right opposite to the MONA ferry building. We got a loft, two bedroom room. Fitted with toiletries by Loccitane to the best appliances in the kitchen. They even had a towel warmer - caught me by surprise. The place was huge, we could easily throw a party. A lot of towels at the washroom and even in the bedroom wardrobe. Watch out for the steps as it can be a bit slippery especially if you wear the house slippers. The fully functional kitchen makes it ideal for every occasion whether it’s heating up the takeaway food or cooking a late night food after a drunken night. My pictures will describe this place better than the review. Loved the stay.

The perfect location, everything we needed was just outside the front door. The apartment was spacious, clean and comfortable. We were warned about noise being so close to restaurants and night life but it was very quiet.

We stayed recently in a one bedroom apartment on Morrison street Hobart. Had a very comfortable stay with all the necessary ammenities being provided. Would have preferred a bit of view and the exhaust fan in bathroom wasn’t working every time. My husband also complained about a little noice disturbance at night but my sleep wasn’t disturbed at all. They do supply ear plugs though in case anyone needs to use. We didn’t need to use them. Other than that everything else was perfect. Would definitely stay again if in the area. The check in was a little tricky because we were new to the area and not familiar with the streets so struggled a little to locate the main office location but once we got it, it was smooth. The fast checkout method was very helpful. The apartment was spacious and clean. Definitely met my expectations. Parking: there’s free street parking after 5PM only but we booked the apartment parking which was secure for $10 per night.
