Bar
Pub
Restaurant
Tucked away in the backstreets of Battery Point, Preachers is a trendy bar housed in a historic sail-makers cottage from 1849. This local secret offers an array of craft beers, local wines, and gourmet burgers. Guests can relax by the fireplace on Chesterfields or head outside to the beer garden where an old Scania school bus serves as both decoration and additional seating.
This Tasmanian hidden gem provides a unique dining experience with a wide selection of craft beers, ciders and wines. Although the burgers are delicious, the perfectly cooked fried food is the star attraction. The variety of sauces complements the food and the vast selection of drinks encourages customers to try different combinations, making every visit unique. One standout combination for me is the broccoli tempura with a side of blue cheese, paired with a refreshing glass of apple cider. The unexpected flavors meld together beautifully, creating a memorable taste experience. Another winning combination for me is the spicy buffalo chicken wings paired with a perfectly crafted beer. The P.F.C. Burger, featuring buttermilk fried chicken breast, is also a great option and pairs well with a crisp white wine. But above all the biggest highlight of this establishment is the ambiance. It's the perfect setting for a casual conversation with friends, offering a comfy and welcoming atmosphere.

A great neighbourhood pub in the back of Salamanca. A wonderful atmosphere inside and warm on a cool autumn day. A nice selection of local and mainland craft beers and a pub menu with a few different options. Friendly and attentive staff. I had the crocodile tenders which were on the specials board - yum! A good start to a few days in Hobart
Laura — Google review
Nice local place with a simple bar menu. Service was quick and the burger I had was tasty. They have a rotating selection of local beers, comfortable places for small groups to hang inside and a nice outside patio. There was a light rain as I was leaving that only lasted a few minutes and nobody outside seemed to care

Super friendly staff, great areas to sit for a meal and/or drinks. Cool how they've set the place up! Loved how the bus was flipped to dine in! Great place for vegans looking for a feed too, as they have options! 😄
Karlie D — Google review
Absolutely the best wings I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Super friendly staff too! The burger was quite decent and the selection of beers was fantastic. But the standout was the bloody fantastic steaming wings and the delicious loaded fries.
Matthew S — Google review
It was my first visit here and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience from start to finish. The employee behind the bar was nice, knowledgeable and knew his beers on tap well. He kindly poured a few tap samples of beer for my parents and explained the difference of the beers to give them comparison between the samples. The food was spot on delicious. I got the classic LA (and being from San Francisco, this did not disappoint). It tasted very similar to an animal style burger and fries from in-n-out burger (also an iconic staple of California). The dining room area is welcoming, inviting and very open. I saw a “book of beers” which was really fun to read through during the short wait for the food. There’s also a really cool outdoor seating area with heat lamps, and a decked out city passenger bus converted into an indoor/outdoor table and chairs so you could eat and or drink inside the city passenger bus! Haven’t seen this elsewhere and I’ll be returning tonight for another drink just to check out this bus in their beer garden. The atmosphere is fantastic for family dinners, dates, casual outings or celebrations. I highly recommend if you’re considering this burger joint, you will not be disappointed! Thanks to the kitchen staff and friendly guy serving beer and taking our order at the register. I also loved that they were supporting a non-profit to help dogs out in Tasmania (which is where our leftover change from dinner went to). And there’s really cool 3D art in the dining area. Open seating. It is important to note that you do have to walk up stairs to get inside. I didn’t see a ramp (in the event someone needed one), but I could’ve missed it on my way out.

Food and beers were on point, staff were lovely and the area was amazing. Will come back again.

Live music venue
The IXL Long Bar is a bar dedicated to Tasmania's beer, wine and spirits. The cocktails here are made with a dedication to uniqueness that sets this place apart from the rest. The vibes are relaxed and comfortable, perfect for winding down after a day of exploring Hobart's charms.
My first time at this lovely bar. We received excellent customer service from the skilled cocktail makers. The cocktails were delicious. The delightful band Shindig Quattro was playing when we attended, such a great night.
Sylvia — Google review
The lovely Louise behind the bar was very accommodating and made our night, with her bar-tending skills and hospitality. It’s fab to see such a great representation of Tassie hospitality when you’re new to an area. We can recommend the Margaritas and generous Aperol Spritz. Thanks Hotel Bruny!
Ellie C — Google review
Highly recommended. Excellent service. Amazing drink craftsmanship. My spouse and I came in for a drink and some light dinner and had a wonderful relaxing evening sitting at the bar. Our bartender Louise was an amazing host that provided professional, friendly service. Well done. We will be back!
Paul E — Google review
Absolutely amazing tonight! The vibe, the band and the staff were all incredible. We came for a couple drinks before dinner and ended up cancelling our reservation to stay and watch the band and have a few cocktails. HUGE shout out to Matt, Jenn and Julie for taking such good care of us tonight

Saw a review saying this bar had the best yuzu cocktail, and I can confirm that it is! So good, live piano music on a Friday night, fresh oysters and beautiful cocktails. Cant recommend enough
Katharine C — Google review
Cute little bar with killer cocktails, we called in 3 times during our stay in Hobart as we liked it so much . The staff are really friendly and attentive.
Ali ( — Google review
Had a great night there with my partner. The two piece band were looking for ideas and played every request with gusto! The two magnificent bartenders kept us plied with some of the finest cocktails, rum and whisky I've had. On tap was a seasonal beer that I fell in love with. The venue is cosy, and comfortable. The bar - with lights under glass - shows off the skill of the bartenders with a reflective glow. The crowd a slightly older one. An easy ace to have a conversation without trying to shout over the top of music or other folk. One of the highlights of my visit to Hobart

Definitely five star. Signature cocktails are fantastic in flavor. Easy to get dizzy - in a good way. Love the trio performance.

Rude Boy, located on Elizabeth Street, stands out from other bars in Tassie by embracing tropical vibes and rum-based cocktails instead of the usual focus on whisky. The bar offers a variety of creative cocktails like the Rhubicube with pineapple and rhubarb, as well as food options including Hobartian fried chicken, brisket, and vegan choices.
So glad we stumbled across Rude Boy when we were looking for a late night drink and snack. The popcorn chicken and sweet potato fries hit the spot. The cocktails were inventive and delicious. The staff were great too.

We had a brilliant time doing an extended cocktail making course with Rowan. Course was really good value for the experience. This wasn't a cheap novelty gimmick, we actually learnt history and technique )as well as drinking a lot). Rowan is a top bloke who tailored the session to cover stuff we enjoy. We had such a good experience that we spent the rest of the evening enjoying the vibe, eating great fried chicken, and chatting with the staff. Highly recommend the bar - drinks and snacks are awesome. If you want to make great cocktails at home, do yourself a favour and email them to sort an extended cocktail course. 2.5hrs well spent.

I had a marvellous short stint here at the Rude boy. Our server Lily was warm and hospitable. The food was delightful, with special credit to the halloumi bites. Overall great little stop.

Stumbled upon this place while on our way to dinner. It was a lucky find, we enjoyed this place so much that we popped in again later in the evening for another drink and some fried chicken. Service with a smile and a welcoming environment, definitely will be back when next in Tasmania or see you guys if you have another pop up in Perth WA.

Stopped in for an early bite before shedding to Town Hall for a concert. Contrary to the name, the staff were exceptionaly polite and courteous. The music and ambience were delightful and the food was amazing. We recommend the oyster mushrooms, an absolute standout. Great work team we will return.

Jack & his team were awesome- we had a big group there for dinner & nothing was an issue. Food & drinks were amazing aswell! Will definitely be back when we're in Tassie next time.

Confession; I'm a fried chicken feind! Love this place, always try to sneak a visit if I'm in Hobart This is very high on my list of must visits if I'm in Hobart. I love the simplicity of the great food and epic cocktails. Its a no miss situation. It's got a funky Caribbean feel and I think it pulls it off. There is a lot to love about this place but for me it's the chicken🍗🤯🤯🤯

Hands down the best cocktail bar I’ve been too with the best tasting cocktails. The history and collections of fossils and artefacts in the bar. Went there twice over my visit to Hobart. The dark spirits whiskey cocktails are absolutely incredible & will definitely visit again
Ben K — Google review
Friendly staff and amazing fossils, such an amazing experience I have to say….. The whiskey was very tasty.

Unbelievably stunning fossile collection!!! Superior aesthetics with amazing drinks - we definitely had one amazing night in here. Had the whisky tasting flights and it was fabulous. Queen bee the cocktail was okay (a bit too sweet). Also nice table service and it’s not too busy or noisy - really suitable for a few drinks and conversation to just wind down for the night. One of the most worth visiting bar in Hobart.

What a fantastic, unique bar in the heart of Hobart. We were recommended this as a must-visit location when in Hobart and we were awestruck and delighted. The manager was amicable and very informative and the snacks hit the spot. The fossils highlighted just made it spectacular.

Gold Bar is a sophisticated and intimate spot that focuses on high-end spirits and cocktails, offering a more relaxed and quieter atmosphere compared to other venues in the region. Located inside an office building, it features a unique little atrium area with a golden ceiling. This hidden gem is perfect for those seeking a more low-key experience. The bar offers an upscale setting with its focus on high-quality drinks, making it an ideal choice for those looking for a more refined and intimate night out.
Wonderful welcoming atmosphere. Felt like we were part of the play...knowledge and advice on whiskey options was considered and well-informed. Cocktails were all amazing.
Fiona G — Google review
What a beautiful place! Quiet little hidden find in Hobart, serving (apparently) only Tasmanian spirits. And what an incredible choice. Fell in love with a rum I'd never seen before, and tried an incredible whisky. Barman was knowledgeable and really helpful, but couldn't give out tastes of the spirits: this would have been easier and more fun to choose. But otherwise perfect!
Richard B — Google review
Not sure how this place is 4.8. There is only a tiny section of the bar that is in the shop and trendy. The rest of the bar is in a very open indoor internal stair well. There was a huge out door area of wooden tables and chairs. Originally it was in the dark and finally the wait staff turned the like on. There was limited outside heating so dress warmly. There was an odd bath tub filled with red pillows. This would be great for groups that need a big table and can't get in anywhere else and don't care about the vibe. Walked to the bat to order. It took ages to get the wait staff to stop talking and take our order. We ordered mulled wine and whiskey of the week. Neither were very good. We drank the mulled wine and left the whiskey.
Amy M — Google review
There are bars with a great back bar or cocktail list, but the vibe is “drink, then leave”. Then there are bars with personality, the sort of place you want to stay for one more - thanks to the bartenders. Gold Bar is the latter. Madelyn brings huge personality to the place, coupled with a great knowledge of Tassie spirits. Definitely a must visit for whisky or cocktail lovers.
Marto — Google review
Great find in downtown Hobart for tasting regional whiskys or enjoying well crafted cocktails, but the star of the show is the mixologist Lucas! Wow, what an asset to this place: so personable, knowledgeable, and welcoming. He should definitely be hired away by the Tasmania Distillers Association as their brand ambassador. Please stop by for a few sips. Terrible picture of Lucas, apologies
Daniel M — Google review
We had a lovely pre-dinner cocktail at this fabulous bar. The bar staff know exactly what they’re doing and can make anything you like (without having to reference online! They just know!). Highly recommend.
MRS P — Google review
Amazing place with no cocktail list but best cocktail maker in Hobart. Just tell Ian what you feel like and he will do something with some amazing ingredients from saffron gin to pavlova vodka to the all Aussie Nedgroni. And when you get peckish he will serve up one of his Mum's fantastic pies or some of her sausage rolls. A hidden treasure which I am sure won't remain hidden for long

Bar Wa Izakaya is a lively Japanese eatery that captures the essence of Tokyo right in North Hobart. This buzzing spot is perfect for late-night cravings, especially with its tempting offerings like tipsy midnight ramen and an array of shareable dishes such as signature oysters, okonomiyaki, and crispy karaage chicken. The atmosphere is vibrant and inviting, making it an ideal place to unwind with friends over delicious food and drinks.
We absolutely loved our experience and were not disappointed by anything. The food was delicious, service was on point and timing was spot on. Service staff were considered and assisted with ordering and any questions we had. They were very accommodating with dietary requirements and made sure there was no dairy in any of the dishes. The cocktail was delightful and fresh. Local wine was great as well. Would definitely recommend getting in early for a booking.

Our family had a great experience here last week for dinner. Walking in, the bottles hanging off the ceiling created a cool and trendy vibe. The food selection is great with varied meat, seafood and veg options. Something as simple as the miso soup really impressed me! The cocktail was very delicious too.

My wife and I had dinner at Bar Wa Izakaya on our first night in Hobart visiting from Melbourne. One of the best Japanese restaurants we’ve been to. Onto the dishes, we ordered - yellow tail kingfish sashimi, wallaby wing-age, yakiniku platter, karaage chicken, okonomiyaki and grilled corn. Every dish we ordered we absolutely loved and could not fault YUMMY AND DELICIOUS, jammed packed with flavour. Staff were so kind, friendly and accommodating. The vibes were amazing and the glass bottles on the ceiling made the ambiance stunning. Highly recommend this place!!!
Johnny P — Google review
Cannot rate this place more highly. Bar Wa Izakaya is an simply sensational venue serving Japanese fusion. Elaborate theming, staff are very attentive and knowledgeable and it hosts a wide selection of Japanese and local beverages. The highlight is the food which is expertly crafted and authentic and quickly prepared. Our two standouts were Kingfish Sashimi and Soba Noodles. Booking is a must.
Dom C — Google review
We spend our lives eating Japanese food in Australia and in Japan. Bar Wa has a terrific set up and fitout with great staff. Vibe is really good. Prices are great. A nifty spot with hidey holes everywhere - holds a lot of people but doesn’t feel crowded. The cocktail and drink list is awesome - if you can’t find something here to meet your needs you won’t find it anywhere. Unfortunately not certain the good made the grade. Whilst it was alright I couldn’t get excited. Maybe that’s just me being picky as we eat Japanese a lot. I’m sure most people would be satisfied with it so would recommend everyone try it.
Rob R — Google review
5 stars for the drinks and 3 stars for the food. Cocktails have all been spectacular. No doubt on this. Food is just so-so. Too much bonito flakes for one, but we probably just ordered dishes that has it. The hibachi grill meats are good. Gyoza and oyster tempura are just ok. Overall, would come for drinks and light snacks.
Erick T — Google review
Best restaurant in Hobart, but make sure you book early as they get booked out super quickly, even on weekdays! Everything we had was delicious, especially the Yuzu oysters and wallaby wings.
Colin L — Google review
Hands down probably the highlight of my culinary experience in Hobart. Food was a mix of amazing Japanese flavours and clearly using the best and freshest produce available in Hobart. The chefs have done an amazing job representing the Japanese cuisine and the bar menu compliments the food menu and no place would be complete without the unique atmosphere and professional and friendly wait staff. You have an amazing venue and an amazing team well done!!!

Irish pub

Nestled in the heart of Hobart, the New Sydney Hotel offers a laid-back and unpretentious atmosphere with its cozy booths and brick walls adorned with quirky memorabilia. This charming spot is perfect for enjoying craft beer, a wide selection of wines, and over 200 whiskies. The menu features classic pub grub with options to accommodate various dietary preferences. On weekends, guests can enjoy live music while savoring delicious meals inspired by global cuisines.
Funny how Google forces you to review it as a hotel instead of what it really is - a great local pub with excellent grub. Lots of delicious food - from our group, the steak & Guinness pie and pork knuckle were especially good. The front of the pub has a lot of character, including an awesome fireplace (perfect for a July evening), but the back and second floor are more ordinary.
Yao W — Google review
The New Sydney has long been an institution and go-to pub for several decades....and for good reason. Conveniently located, good range of food options, plenty of beverages to be had, cosy atmosphere and live entertainment on offer. On this occassion I decided to stick with the more traditional pub food and went with a chicken parmy with chips and salad and a pint of pale ale to enjoy it with. All up it came to about $45 with the meal being delicious and more than ample. It was very busy but food came witin a very reasonable time frame. Within the walls there's certainly plenty of character and a comfy atmosphere. It was a cold night so the warmth within was defininately welcomed. Staff friendliness adds to the atmosphere. Wether it's a meal you're after, a few drinks or just somewhere to meet up and unwind then you can't go wrong here.
Peter V — Google review
Great old school Irish pub with a plethora of nice beers on tap. The log fire invites you in with a great warmth on these cold days. The pub staff are welcoming just as the log fire is. And so does the ambience draw you in. A great place to have a nice pub meal and enjoy a nice beer or three. Bonus is the $10 Guinness pints offer between 2pm and 5pm
Mel F — Google review
Perfect spot to have a pint of Guinness on a cold and windy Wednesday afternoon. It’s a beautiful, cosy traditional pub. The staff are friendly and the Guinness was perfect. 10/10. If you’re not up for a Guinness, they have a great selection of beers on tap. And the Spice Bag is a must-try if you don’t mind a bit of spice.

The Porterhouse steak was excellent and cooked very well. The pub had a older traditional pub atmosphere and was very popular. It's not a big place but very cosy and has a open fireplace. Definitely an option for adecent selection of drinks and tasty food.
Steve W — Google review
What a wonderful little pub. It's very handy as it's right in the middle of town. We went Thursday for drinks and loved it so much we booked dinner there on Friday night. One ordered the pork knuckle, which was amazing - the only thing that could have made it better would have been crackling. I ordered the porterhouse steak cooked medium well but was Disappointed that it came out medium rare. It went back to be cooked a little more and was then overcooked, but I expected that. I still ate it so not all lost. The staff is amazing and so friendly. The pub has so much atmosphere with an open fireplace and an outdoor laneway experience for those who wanted the cold. Well definitely go back next time we're in Hobart - Loved the New Sydney lager, great beer!!!I

Great traditional pub in centre of Hobart. Beer pretty good and friendly locals, Sunday night singer in the bar was a nice addition (not too loud). Rated the Guinness pie w mushy peas, like being home in the UK.

The Winston is a popular bar in Hobart with a great range of drinks and delicious food. It's also the home of live music and events - perfect for a night out with friends.
Had the buffalo wings and the cheese burger. Buffalo wings have a spicy kick but not overly so and have a really good flavour. Went with the cheese burger as thought if they are good then don’t need anything fancy. Surpassed my expectations. Amazingly good cheese burger. Can’t go wrong with these two dishes. Beer was good too. Service friendly. Atmosphere vibrant and casual.

Been to 40 pubs in tassie, over 20 breweries and distillers, had a much higher content of alcohol then 10% and served me as much as I wanted. Walked into the Winston and was excited to try all the different beers they had on tap. The first beer I was going to have was a schooner 10%, the bartender says to me "it's 10% mate" I said " that's alright mate from Darwin think I can handle it" he said "sorry mate can't give you a schooner". When did bartenders tell you how much you can drink? Well Winston was the only place that did this. I'll know where to skip next time im back. Would have spent a good buck or two aswell.

Person taking food order not very friendly when asked about GF options and wine options. Only one option for Savignon Blanc. Not offered alternative instead of chips. Left after eating burgers still needing more food. Bought GF hot chips up the road!

As a spicy lover i tried Nashville wings which was so good and its a must try for everyone who loves spicy.

I wish I lived down in Hobart. This is such an awesome pub. Great atmosphere and decor. We don't have nice places like this in Lonnie but that might be because The Winston is one of a kind.

Nice brewery. Do not offer tasting paddles. They have a decent deal on wings, but I got 17 flats and only 3 drummies on a 20 wing order.

Fun pub with American style hot dogs and burgers. There's a retro style games arcade in the back. Good vibes.
Bronte A — Google review
By now, you already know this is a pretty popular watering hole. I've been here plenty of times and each time, 5 stars. This American styled bar makes no effort to hide what it is, from the food to the art, this is 'murica at its best (Donald Trump Free). Plastered through out the venue is a range of American memorabilia and if that doesn't lure you into singing the Star Spangled Banner, the food bloody well will. I opted to have the buffalo wings (they have ATOMIC WINGS if you're feeling brave, I was not) followed by the buffalo burger. Have a look at the photos, like reaaaaallllyyy closely... looks good eh? Tastes even better! My mate had the classic burger and as per usual, polished that down. Plenty of options when it comes to grabbing a bevie while you wait on your meals (20 mins is what we waited for, pretty darn good considering it was packed) and if you're unsure about what to get, the bartenders are a wealth of knowledge and always willing to help. This is a must go to place and one that will truly be around for a while by the looks of things. Will be back. Will recommend. *UPDATE* 16/11/23 Made the time to come back to this lovely little local place as I had the deepest craving for buffalo wings. The food is still amazing! They've expanded on the gaming area giving the place an extra dimension. Personally, I like it. Games games games! I decided to put on my big boy pants and hit up the atomic wings. It's a day later and I'm still suffering. What goes in must come out so before you do this, know that life for the next 24 hours will be unpleasant! Still, bloody delicious!! I will be back. Guaranteed.

The Whaler, formerly known as Knopwood Retreat, is a historic pub in Salamanca with an old-English-style atmosphere that dates back to 1829. Frequented by sailors and whalers in the past, it still retains its nautical charm with a curved bar and vibrant leadlight windows. The pub offers locally produced alcoholic ginger beer and a selection of tap draught beers, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists.
A must-visit spot in Hobart! The Whaler absolutely lived up to the hype. Located right in the heart of Salamanca, it has that perfect mix of relaxed pub vibes and top-quality food and drinks. We sat outside and soaked in the atmosphere—great spot for people-watching with a drink in hand. The service was friendly, attentive, and made us feel really welcome from the moment we walked in. The lobster roll was a standout—fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully put together. The local beer selection was impressive too, with a great range of Tasmanian brews on tap. Inside, the pub has heaps of character and charm—think classic timber, a warm cosy feel, and a buzzing atmosphere that never felt too loud or hectic. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Hobart or locals looking for a great spot to eat, drink, and unwind. We'll definitely be back!
Charlotte M — Google review
We were genuinely excited to have lunch at The Whaler, a well-known spot in Hobart with a lunch menu that sounded great especially the famous lobster roll. Unfortunately, the food turned out to be overly salty, to the point where it was difficult to enjoy. When we politely shared our feedback with a staff member at the bar named James, who was sitting with a woman named Ella, the response was surprisingly dismissive. James said, “Most Australian foods are salty,” which felt condescending, especially since one of us is Australian. Ella laughed, which made the moment feel even more uncomfortable. We weren’t looking for a refund or a replacement just offering honest feedback. What made the experience worse was the way we were treated throughout the interaction. There was a distinct lack of professionalism and respect, which left a sour taste, far worse than the salt in the food. Great food means little when hospitality is lacking. We were a group of friends hoping for a nice lunch out, but sadly, we left disappointed and unwelcome.
JANARAH F — Google review
Dropped in for lunch and a few beers. The house lager was suggested as their most popular beer and didn't disappoint. We had the lobster roll and mussels. Both were excellent although on a cold day, sitting outside, the mussels hit the spot.

Our reliable ‘first stop’ for lunch when arriving into Hobart. Lovely atmosphere, view and tasty food. Local beer and wines are also appreciated.
Georgina P — Google review
The atmosphere is very darkly lit. The Aussie burger & fistful of fries was a generous size. The bowl of mussels came with two large slices of bread. The broth had a good chili zing but was overly salty (& I like salt). Also, unfortunately, it had a few too many unopened muscles in the serve. As a rule, it’s unsafe to prise these open to eat them. I felt it was a disappointing meal. $70 for two meals, a rum, & a soda water.
Maria K — Google review
The gluten free lobster roll was 10/10 and the chips were great too! I had an amazing Bloody Mary and also some kind of delicious grapefruit cocktail. I’m here visiting only for a few weeks but I’ve been back multiple times for the lobster rolls already, they’re so darn good. The staff are lovely and very kind too. The whole bar has a great vibe and awesome atmosphere. Definitely a must visit!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 – The Best Bartender, Hands Down! Tyson isn’t just a bartender—he’s the bartender. From the moment you walk in, he sets the tone with a warm welcome, an easy smile, and a level of professionalism that makes the entire experience unforgettable. His drink-making skills? Flawless. Whether it’s a classic cocktail or something off the cuff, he nails it every time. But it’s not just about the drinks—Tyson has that rare ability to make everyone feel like a regular. He’s attentive without hovering, quick with a recommendation, and always a step ahead of what you didn’t even know you needed. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does, and that energy is contagious. Tyson is, in every sense of the word, an overly great bartender—effortlessly cool, exceptionally talented, and the kind of person who makes any night better just by being there. If you’re lucky enough to be served by Tyson, you’re in for a great time. 🍸👏

Cannot understand how they got their rating on google. Atmosphere is wanting, staff bordering unfriendly and cocktail was disappointing . Was keen to try their cocktails based on ratings but bailed. Saturday evening at 1800. Next please

Very good cocktails and service, but maybe not “great” cocktails. Glad we came and checked it out, it’s so much better than the standard Salamanca tourist-traps, but didn’t want to stay for too long either. Can’t comment personally on food, but the focus is on being a bar with a huge range of spirits and their own unique style which I thought deserved recognition, not really a food focus. I say go for a cocktail and judge yourself!

Very happy I got to this bar! Just around the corner from the Salamanca strip, it’s out of the ‘busy’ and potentially messy night scene. When walking in, it was a very spacious bar and beautiful decor that felt quite luxurious and industrial at the same time… The drinks were quick, the menu had some fun looking drinks and it was laid out well, and the service was awesome - I got greeted straight away. The shelves were amazing, so many spirits available!! Both cocktails I had were perfect for what I was feeling, and how they ‘should’ taste. That’s always nice (haha). It was a chill evening so got to chat to the bartenders about some other places in Hobart to visit and they had great spots that suited me. I also got to meet another lovely human sitting at the bar, so Society attracts nice people (bonus!). Would recommend popping in and having a drink here!

My partner and I had the pumpkin pizza, chip & dip, and two cocktails. The pizza fetta balanced with the soft pumpkin perfectly and the left over crust was delicious to dip into the hummus and dukkah on the 'chip & dip'. Thank you for a lovely meal and drinks🤙

We celebrated my husband’s birthday at Mary Mary, and it was a fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. The drink menu is quite extensive, and I really enjoyed the tapas style, which allowed us to share dishes and sample a variety of flavors. The staff’s recommendations were spot on and added to our delightful evening.

Abandoned and neglected. Could’ve gotten better service at the local pub. AVOID THE BURGER, thick undercooked + unflavoured meat and dry bun. For such a nice/upmarket bar, the service was NOT up to par. Nearly two full plates of food were cleared from the table and not a question asked by the server. Then abandoned for close to an hour, seemed like other tables experienced this too. Water jug was cleared with entrees and no replacement. Wasn’t asked for a second round of drinks. We wanted dessert but I guess not. Maccas soft serve will have to do. Overall very disappointed, in the past the service here has been great and so has the food. Not sure what was in the air tonight, but clearly not good vibes.

A really great spot to unwind! The staff were very attentive, service was very quick, and the food and drinks were delicious. I typically enjoy regular cocktails and wine but gave the mocktails a go as I wasn’t much in the mood for alcohol but had booked ahead for my holiday. They were honestly so good that I didn’t feel like I was missing out!

Tucked secretly inside the Tasman Luxury Hotel, Mary Mary is a shhhhhh secret spot with speakeasy vibes. The ambiance is rustic charm with dim lighting and cozy nooks. It offers a mix of small plates. Their pizza fritta is a revelation — light, airy, and perfectly crisp. The scallops were impressive, seared to perfection and paired with a delicate sauce that complemented without overpowering also served in a shell. The ensalada offered a refreshing contrast. Crunch and lovable. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. Drinks were great.

Manky Sally's is a trendy bar and micro-brewery located in Hobart, along the Salamanca strip. It is part of the MONA family and features 14 taps offering a variety of beers from Moo Brew, MONA's in-house beer label. The bar has a unique decor made from foraged items from MONA's warehouses, creating a moody and charismatic atmosphere.
We looked at a few venues, hoping to find somewhere for a late lunch, early dinner after having returned from MONA. As Manky Sally's was mentioned, we ended up there and chose a table in the restaurant area at the back. We spent between 4 to 5 hours there and enjoyed a number of different dishes. These included the Tapioca Crack Crackers, Triple Cooked Chips, Sesame Prawn Toast, Wallaby Rump Steak and a cooked venison dish. Other than the chips (not nice at all), everything was lovely. The venison dish had a modest warmth, whilst the wallaby was crispy and tender. My friend's comment to the prawn toast was along the lines of 'wow, this isn't from a freezer' - high praise indeed. What we really enjoyed was not being rushed, the wait staff being friendly and observant, and the atmosphere of the room lending itself to us losing track of time and not even being aware of the sun setting! I can also recommend the Spicy Margarita - yum!

Great design, food and of course beer! Had the venison curry puffs, Asian style cucumber salad, wallaby spicy skewers and tasting paddle of beers, all delicious. So good to see restaurants doing "game" meat justice, 10/10 would recommend

First time visitor as an Interstater to Manky Sally's and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tap beers were delicious and served by very hospitable staff who looked after our accessibility requests with zero fuss. The art decor out back is worth a Schooner in and of itself. Thanks so much, MS and the Moo Brew Team! Definitely coming back on our next trip o'er the Bass! 🫶🏼

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Share meals which were very different from the norm. Oysters were incredible. Sauce that came with the fish was too much though but in an ever changing menu some things are going to be better than others. I would suggest that staff offered advice on what share items go well together. Maybe that sauce from the fish wouldn’t have been so bad if another share item was creamy?

A rustic pub with a lot of history! We dined by their open fireplace and it made for a very cosy atmosphere. The food was excellent for pub standards and beautifully presented. I did find the seafood linguine a bit too oily, but everything else was on point. Very friendly service and the food came out timely.

Fabulous pub! The oldest licensed one in Australia so we had to have food and drinks here. Was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. My family and I (7 of us) came here to have a nice meal together. And we a thousand percent did!!!!! All of us enjoyed our meals. The Caesar salad looked delicious (the person next to me ordered it and said they really enjoyed it, it had a good amount of dressing on it). But most of us ordered the chicken Parmi. OMG!! One of the best parmi’s I’ve ever had!! The chips and salad were perfect. But the main star was the sauce on the parmi! Absolutely to die for! The cheese was delicious and I was extra lucky coz my Parmi came with some crunchy flakey cheese on the bottom🤤 so delicious. I wish I lived in Hobart coz I’d be addicted to their Parmi’s. And then we had the amazing idea to share some Sticky date dessert. Again absolutely delicious!! I’m so glad we tried it!! I really struggled to share it with the rest of my family 😂😂 The staff were all really nice and helpful and friendly. Oh! And the meals came out looking a lot nicer then the photos show. I forgot to take photos before we dug into the meals 😂😂

Visiting from Brisbane & had a Tassie family get together here. The service was great, atmosphere was great but the smoke from the open fires was stinging a few people’s eyes. Just cracking a window open a little near the fire would have helped. I had the 200gm porterhouse steak, it was cooked to medium perfectly 👏 the chef. I meant to ask if the chef is Ceoliac because pretty much everything on the menu had a gf option . All the deserts were gluten free, can’t remember the last time I had a gf sticky date pudding? It was bloody amazing ❤️ I highly recommend dining here 👏

Tom McHugo's Hobart Hotel, located on Macquarie Street, has transformed from a rowdy pub to a place that prioritizes great food and drinks. The owners, Whitney Ball and Tom Westcott, bring their experience from the renowned Franklin restaurant to create a locally focused menu featuring nose-to-tail cooking and an impressive selection of local wines, beers, and ciders. The pub prides itself on championing local produce from growers like Fat Carrot Farm and Littlewood Lamb.
We read some great reviews on this pub and were excited to check it out. It exceeded our expectations with many local beers and wines. An eclectic menu and excellent service. We really enjoyed the Fried Haggis Bao and the schnitzel and pan fried trumpeter. A must do in Hobart.

An institution which will soon be leaving Hobart. Great food which clearly is from freshly sourced produce. Really enjoyed the deviled cod toast. The lamb and vegetables were a simple meal made of quality ingredients - cooked medium rare (it was served a little cool though) Potatoes and lamb chorizo were decent but a little too rich.

Staff greeted on arrival, smiled & were friendly. Seated at a table (as preferred over stools) & they advised time we would need to vacate for prior booking which was helpful to know. Food was interesting & delicious - the Haggis was absolutely amazing, definitely recommend trying it! Selection of wine/beer/drinks was varied & reasonably priced. Some of the lower rated reviews previously provided were extremely condescending to staff & poorly shined on the food - perhaps a bad day was had on either end! Highly recommend trying again if you ever had a bad experience, as every day is not the same & we had a nice experience 🥂✨

Possibly the worst pub ive ever been to. I got a "english longhorn pastrami roll with pepper gravy and chips" aka for 18 bucks i got 4 slices of pastrami, a burnt bread roll, a small bowl of mccains frozen chips and some gravy. Absolutely horrid. Id heard the pies here were good, my partner got a lamb mince pie with mushy peas and gravy. Looked like a burnt pie served on a pile of sick. Had no other flavour except pepper. Great job on "priding yourselved on the life you live" atleast you served hobart brewing co beer and an extortionate rate, because that was the only tasty thing i enjoyed. The fact that this has 4.4 stars goes to show that you can throw a bunch of fancy words in your menu and serve garbage and people will still think its good. Im going to mcdonalds.

Loved my experience here, from the atmosphere to the staff and especially the brew! What a nice vibe. Being an American and loving our breweries, I wanted to get a bit of a comparison. Definitely spot on!! The staff is super friendly and helpful, I had a flight and the team member was good about asking me my preferences. The outside is very family oriented and also great for large groups or just a solo looking to enjoy the atmosphere. Dog friendly and a food truck on location. My favorite was the Harbor Master but I enjoyed all I tasted.

Got a chance to try local beer here, I ordered Hobart lager which I guess the best beer on the menu since it carries the name of their shop and the city. The taste was okay for me but to be honest I liked Emu beer more which I got to taste while I was in Perth. Staff service was okay also, they snatch an unfinished can of beer of my associate which we bought in Liquorland and they said it was not allowed to bring / consume while in their premises. They actually did us a favor I guess because the beer we bought in Liquorland tastes terrible because it tasted like expired beer.

No kidding, it's a longish walk to get here but there's the ability to stop and rehydrate on the way. Imperial stout, which is not a description of me, is in fact the best drink I've had today. Closely followed by the Choc milk stout, again from T-Bone. So, very much worth the trek, or if lazy, drive, bus, uber etc etc. It's an industrial corner store feel. Made all the better because beverage hails from here. Music feels more The Cure than pop divas. But give the locals a bloody go, and support the business. Me I'm off to find more places to drink.

Nice and warm atmosphere. Staff is friendly and willing to help when she saw me as a first time customer. The nachos is great and matches well with the beer. IPA is refreshing a lots of fragrance. Great. Small venue craft brewery. Great selection of beer styles and happy, friendly service. Come down for a chill few beers, wine or cocktails. Small selection of food or by food from the neighborhood.

Oh my gods soooo good as an expat tasmanian who went to Elizabeth colege in the 90's all i remember of the corner of Tasma and Elizabeth streets was the fish mongers but seriously T-Bone brew co have made me love that corner sadly im on my way back to the big island now but i will be looking at how to get the chocolate milk stout sent up to Qld and will defonitly drop back in next time im back down seriously if you like a tasty feed and good beer go to this place :)

Enjoyed the seasonal Hazy IPA on tap. Friendly service too. Shame that food isn't available until 5pm however the lovely chap let us buy food from nearby and bring it in. Would recommend 😁

T-Bone is a great place to stop by and enjoy wonderful beers, great nibbles and fantastic conversation. They don't want you to drink something you don't like so are happy to give a small taste before you decide. There's other drinks for those who don't drink beer or the designated driver.

Nestled in the heart of North Hobart, Boodle Beasley stands out as a beloved pub that beautifully marries sophistication with heritage charm. Just a leisurely stroll from the picturesque waterfront, this inviting venue is often the go-to spot for pre-drinks during events like Dark Mofo. Its warm and welcoming architecture, showcased through expansive glass windows, draws passersby in with its quaint allure and creates an atmosphere that resonates with Hobart's rich history.
Some previous reviews here and on TripAdvisor over a fair period of time had me a little concerned if I'd get lucky or unlucky with service when I visited. Thankfully all good. The main person that looked after me was the lady recently returned from WA. A genuine and friendly person ready to chat and help with info and suggestions. Definitely not the sort of staff attitude some reviews had suggested. Keep her on! Had some food, burger was fine and it was half price wings day. Wings would be a reasonable deal at full price. A couple of days later I had what passed for wings somewhere else which were really nibbles and priced almost as much as Boodle's regular price. Boodle had proper wings.

Had the work Christmas lunch. The entire upstairs area was available to us, loved the shared food platters, lot of drink options, great service. Lovely garden with plenty of outdoor seating.
A D — Google review
Very nice restaurant with decent food, big variety of beer with a bit of a hipster atmosphere. Good to grab something nice before exploring Hobart or have a beer with friends.
Adam W — Google review
This place has a nice vibe a little more welcoming to older cats . I was a little discombobulated to be served by kids young wbough to be my kids but they made good cocktails and restrained themselves from calling me “old man” etc. it’s good here with plenty of heaters in the outside area . Maybe there is some nightlife in Hobart. On weekends anyway ….
Nim J — Google review
Served by a lovely young man behind the bar. He was quite knowledgeable and knew exactly how to point me in the right direction for the perfect drink. I think his name was Tom! I will certainly be returning.
Esther O — Google review
Funky atmosphere. Eclectic decor. Wonderful beer selection. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Good service.
Essey P — Google review
Loud, echoey, had to shout to my partner next to me. 3 people waiting for drinks and I felt like I was on holiday. Had to buy several drinks at a time to avoid going back up. Food was OK, nothing to rave about. 4 different mains and a bit blah... I really didn't enjoy it, probably because I couldn't hear anything my friends were saying...
Scott B — Google review
I absolutely love this place. My friends took me there when I was visiting Tasmania. Blond lady (I believe manager) was delightful. I highly recommend this venue for a drink or lunch. The only negative is that fish burger patty, I believe it was frozen, didn’t taste so nice. The rest was brilliant.

The Still, LARK Whisky Bar is a fantastic spot in Hobart that offers an extensive selection of Tasmanian whiskies. The atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The bar features an impressive array of whiskeys from various distilleries, including a flight option for tasting. In addition to whiskey, they also offer other drinks like beer and cocktails.
The Still is a fantastic showcase of Lark’s exceptional whiskies alongside a thoughtfully curated selection of other top-tier Tasmanian whiskies. The tasting options are well-designed, making it a great spot for both whisky enthusiasts and those looking to explore something new. Food options are limited which is worth noting if you’re hungry as well as thirsty, but stop here first still for a tasting before heading on to a dinner venue or come after for a night cap! However, what truly sets The Still apart is the outstanding staff. Across multiple visits, they’ve consistently been warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. They not only offer helpful whisky recommendations but have also gone above and beyond, sharing local tips on restaurants and things to see around Tasmania. They are brilliant ambassadors for the Lark brand and for Tasmania as a whole. Highly recommended!

Best whiskey bar in Hobart by far. Maddie our bartender was excellent and very helpful
D P — Google review
I don’t review every bar I visit, but if I have a great experience, I’ll call it out. I arrived not long before closing (a time some bars are often reluctant to serve or welcome new guests), but Maddie could not have been more hospitable. Friendly, knowledgeable, welcome. Exactly what you want as a visitor. The selection of Tassie whisky here is incredible, and the fact they serve half-drams makes them a true whisky bar IMO. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Hobart!
Marto — Google review
I was recommended to check out this distillery and am glad I stopped by. The staff did a great job giving me history of the whisky, the company, and companies they purchased. I had two flights which had 3 tastes a piece and the flavors were quite varied, from smooth to putting some hair on your chest. When I finished my flights I knew what I wanted to purchase, but due to pricing I ordered one both bottle and one small bottle. The atmosphere at the bar was well done. My pics might not do it full justice, but is a cozy place to sip and enjoy company. It was also in walking distance if my hotel the Crowne Plaza Hobart.

Definitely my favorite Bar in Hobart, came here two days in a row. Well made signature cocktails, gin and whisky base, the Peat Treat is a must, very well balanced drink, pleated whisky, sherry, mandarin and ginger, I can't stop drinking it! Insane Tasmanian Whisky selection, I believe they have the full collection with over 300 whiskys. Fantastic customer service, friendly, accommodating and very professional. The atmosphere and the look of the Bar is fantastic.

Great time here on a Sunday afternoon. Partner had an awesome experience trying lots of different whiskies and chatting to the staff. Bar food was also yummy! Highly recommended.
Ammie D — Google review
Great selection of Tassie whiskies, and really hospitable bar staff. Rez (did I spell correctly?) curated an amazing tasting journey for me, ultimately culminating in me finding something I can't leave without grabbing a bottle of. Highly recommended for all whisky enthusiasts.

Nestled in the heart of Hobart, Lucinda Wine Bar is a delightful gem that goes beyond just being a pre-drinks spot; it’s an inviting dining experience all on its own. As the sister venue to the beloved Dier Makr, this vibrant bar boasts an ever-evolving selection of minimal intervention wines sourced from around the globe. The atmosphere here is lively and eclectic—perfect for unwinding after work with a glass of natural wine and some delectable snacks.
Wonderful atmosphere. Delightful staff. Lovely little dishes for a lighter dinner. Was buzzy on a school night yet still relaxing and great for conversation. Menu changes all the time.

RUN.. don’t walk! If you’re lucky enough to get a seat, kick back with a glass of wine, and watch the fabulous staff prepare your meals in front of you. The steak tartare is outstanding as was the tomato salad. But what really is special about this place is the staff.. we felt like we were dining with friends.
Linda H — Google review
Interesting challenge for a wine lover visiting Hobart. No Tassie Chardonnay, in fact no wine list at all. Just leaving your trust in the team to get it right and make it enjoyable. They nailed it. A WA Chardonnay, an oxidative Italian 'Orange' White, a textural Alsace Field blend from Rohrer and a Beaujolaisesque Pinot from the Adelaide Hills. Beets and Feta, Wild Hare, Pork and Pistachio Terrine were equally as enjoyable.
Steven M — Google review
It’s always our go to when in Hobart. Last night was full of atmosphere, superb food made with inspiration and local ingredients, and natural wines from Auvergne, Roussillon and the Jura. We can’t ask for more than that! thanks Kobi and staff for yet another unforgettable experience.
Greg W — Google review
Awesome food, and friendly staff that’s eager to help. We tasted several different wines before we settled on one we liked. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and it’s easy to strike up conversations with strangers. We liked this place so much we ended up coming here twice in a couple of weeks.
Raghav V — Google review
Food was tasty and complimented the 'new world' wine offerings of from local and international producers. The wine service was interestingly collaborative even for BTG which was enjoyable and personal. A few of the finer details were overlooked which seem uncharacteristic from the most recent reviews but slightly tarnished our overall experience. However, we would consider returning when back in Hobart next.

Have been to the very best of places from NYC, London, Rome, Sydney, etc. This is the most fabulous hidden gem with an absolutely lovely staff. The beef tartare was delicious and atmosphere was fabulous!!

I found Lucinda while looking online for wine bars in the area and was so excited to go. Happy to say it lived up to my expectations. The server was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us pick out some lovely wines (a Riesling and a Chardonnay). The food was incredible as well. All in all one of my favorite stops so far.

Sonny is a popular pocket-sized wine bar overseen by local sommelier Alister Robertson. The blackboard wine list features a selection of fizzy, white, and red wines with a natural lean towards local and international choices. The menu offers small plates such as oysters, toast with various toppings, and handmade pasta. With its sleek ambiance and vinyl spinning in the background, Sonny is an ideal spot for snacking or turning it into a full dinner experience.
Truly excellent spot. Visiting from NYC and there is just something special about this place - I wish there was a way to capture this vibe and bring it back to the city. Had a great chilled red, and the green tomato + anchovy toast was a treat. Loved the records they were playing and service was great. It’s a small place, so you’re gonna want to show up right when they open, or within 15-30 minutes to get a seat (especially on a weekend). Worth a stop in Hobart!
Matt B — Google review
Vibes and music were impeccable, and the staff were absolutely wonderful and accommodating. Food was prepared fresh and we had good recommendations for the wine (see: mystery wine on the menu!) Apart from the alcoholic options there was also a very delicious non-alcoholic cider from PRAH that we’ve been unable to find at any other bar / restaurant since.

Just went here tonight! The food was terrific. Full of flavour, simple but also complex at the same time, so tasty! Staff were all so friendly and bad a good vibe going. They were so helpful in choosing wines and food (in particular this one waitress who helped me choose a wine and carefully went through the menu and helped with portioning sizing). Atmosphere was great. It's small, but it's cosy at the same time. Would 100% recommend and would definitely come again!
Duncan — Google review
Good vibes all round with the long communal bar seating and intimate benches off to the side. Even the LP stand is a seat if you're keen! Wine list hits hard despite it's size and great value small plates.
Tamika U — Google review
Loved this wine bar! Bar snacks were great and had some interesting pours. Service could have been more attentive. Recommend getting there early not to queue outside, but totally worth it for the vinyl music and good vibes.
Ammie D — Google review
Worth the wait! Really enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe! Food was delicious! We shared the pasta and it was a very generous size! Staff were all lovely and while waiting in the line kept popping out and keeping us updated and in the loop which we loved!
Georgina W — Google review
Good vibes, great service and nice cocktails. Oysters were yum but the other food was quite average for a pescatarian. About a 45 minute wait to get seated. Would recommend for a few drinks and some bar snacks over dinner.
Zoe C — Google review
Good vibes all around Visited alone and it’s a great environment to chat with new people at the communal bar It is very cozy. It adds to the vibes but it also means it’s quite tight in there, so be warned if you have accessibility needs. I also appreciated that Sonny is walk-in only (no resos)

Nestled within a harborside venue, The Story Bar at Macq 01 offers a relaxing experience with its draught beer and picturesque water views. Inspired by Tasmania's egalitarian nature, the bar focuses on local specialties such as hops, apples, and botanicals. With one of the best vantage points in Hobart, it's an ideal spot for enjoying a sundowner while taking in the stunning surroundings.
You can also come here for lunch — it’s probably quieter and you can enjoy the views. The cider-battered fish was ultra crispy and excellent 💥 The chips were good but probably fell short of the excellence of the fish. The house-smoked salmon had lovely texture and flavour to it. And the house salad was the perfect counterpoint. The service was also friendly and prompt — a great way to have lunch in Hobart 👏

I come here everytime when I am in Hobart, I like a quiet atmosphere in bars, somewhere to relax and reset and have a nice whiskey neat to top it off, with friendly staff especially the bar manager, great personality and bar etiquette. Situated in a lovely spot right next to the dock. I haven't eaten here yet, but must be rather good it's always full in restaurant, when I am there.

Great venue for a few drinks! Tried most of the cocktails before heading next door for dinner. Live music. Wonderful service. Great atmosphere! Mood lighting! Loved it!

Worst customer service on the Hobart waterfront. Came in today for lunch and was fobbed off by the waitperson for atleast an hour while we watched other people get served almost straight away, We decided to leave and just pay for our drink. We went over to Mures where we had a great lunch and received equally good service.
Ads T — Google review
4 of us went to the story bar last night(saturday) at 9 there were another 12 people inside and 6 outside. We were told by the manager it was last drinks at 10. We would have had a couple more drinks and at least 20 people came to the locked door and turned away as evolve spirit bar was closed for a private function. Come on Hobart do better!

The Sunday surcharge of 15% did suck but otherwise, the prices are fair and the food was amazing. Would go back
