Gastropub
Tom McHugo's Hobart Hotel, located on Macquarie Street, has transformed from a rowdy pub to a place that prioritizes great food and drinks. The owners, Whitney Ball and Tom Westcott, bring their experience from the renowned Franklin restaurant to create a locally focused menu featuring nose-to-tail cooking and an impressive selection of local wines, beers, and ciders. The pub prides itself on championing local produce from growers like Fat Carrot Farm and Littlewood Lamb.
We read some great reviews on this pub and were excited to check it out. It exceeded our expectations with many local beers and wines. An eclectic menu and excellent service. We really enjoyed the Fried Haggis Bao and the schnitzel and pan fried trumpeter. A must do in Hobart.
Mark C — Google review
An institution which will soon be leaving Hobart. Great food which clearly is from freshly sourced produce. Really enjoyed the deviled cod toast. The lamb and vegetables were a simple meal made of quality ingredients - cooked medium rare (it was served a little cool though) Potatoes and lamb chorizo were decent but a little too rich.
Alex W — Google review
Just had a very delicious vegetarian meal. We chose three exciting, innovative, for us new, dishes. Each of them was amazing and very enjoyable. Big thanks to the kitchen. Service was lovely and the pub had a good Friday evening vibe. Happy to go back anytime. Thanks chef 😃
Jo A — Google review
Absolutely delicious food, far better than any pub food I've ever had before. They do seasonal menus which I absolutely love. The staff were really friendly too. I already want to go back and try more of the menu.
Daniel D — Google review
Staff greeted on arrival, smiled & were friendly. Seated at a table (as preferred over stools) & they advised time we would need to vacate for prior booking which was helpful to know. Food was interesting & delicious - the Haggis was absolutely amazing, definitely recommend trying it! Selection of wine/beer/drinks was varied & reasonably priced. Some of the lower rated reviews previously provided were extremely condescending to staff & poorly shined on the food - perhaps a bad day was had on either end! Highly recommend trying again if you ever had a bad experience, as every day is not the same & we had a nice experience 🥂✨
Kristin — Google review
This place is an institution. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the staff who were SO lovely and hilarious. The beers on tap were yummy, and the food was UN-REAL. Wherever it moves to.. I will follow!
Annie C — Google review
Possibly the worst pub ive ever been to. I got a "english longhorn pastrami roll with pepper gravy and chips" aka for 18 bucks i got 4 slices of pastrami, a burnt bread roll, a small bowl of mccains frozen chips and some gravy. Absolutely horrid. Id heard the pies here were good, my partner got a lamb mince pie with mushy peas and gravy. Looked like a burnt pie served on a pile of sick. Had no other flavour except pepper. Great job on "priding yourselved on the life you live" atleast you served hobart brewing co beer and an extortionate rate, because that was the only tasty thing i enjoyed. The fact that this has 4.4 stars goes to show that you can throw a bunch of fancy words in your menu and serve garbage and people will still think its good. Im going to mcdonalds.

Best meal we had in Hobart, friendly staff and top notch food and produce. Super creative dishes and value for money, servings were very decent and best Lamb dish we’ve had.

Nestled in the heart of Hobart, Lucinda Wine Bar is a delightful gem that goes beyond just being a pre-drinks spot; it’s an inviting dining experience all on its own. As the sister venue to the beloved Dier Makr, this vibrant bar boasts an ever-evolving selection of minimal intervention wines sourced from around the globe. The atmosphere here is lively and eclectic—perfect for unwinding after work with a glass of natural wine and some delectable snacks.
Wonderful atmosphere. Delightful staff. Lovely little dishes for a lighter dinner. Was buzzy on a school night yet still relaxing and great for conversation. Menu changes all the time.

RUN.. don’t walk! If you’re lucky enough to get a seat, kick back with a glass of wine, and watch the fabulous staff prepare your meals in front of you. The steak tartare is outstanding as was the tomato salad. But what really is special about this place is the staff.. we felt like we were dining with friends.
Linda H — Google review
Interesting challenge for a wine lover visiting Hobart. No Tassie Chardonnay, in fact no wine list at all. Just leaving your trust in the team to get it right and make it enjoyable. They nailed it. A WA Chardonnay, an oxidative Italian 'Orange' White, a textural Alsace Field blend from Rohrer and a Beaujolaisesque Pinot from the Adelaide Hills. Beets and Feta, Wild Hare, Pork and Pistachio Terrine were equally as enjoyable.
Steven M — Google review
It’s always our go to when in Hobart. Last night was full of atmosphere, superb food made with inspiration and local ingredients, and natural wines from Auvergne, Roussillon and the Jura. We can’t ask for more than that! thanks Kobi and staff for yet another unforgettable experience.
Greg W — Google review
Awesome food, and friendly staff that’s eager to help. We tasted several different wines before we settled on one we liked. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and it’s easy to strike up conversations with strangers. We liked this place so much we ended up coming here twice in a couple of weeks.
Raghav V — Google review
Food was tasty and complimented the 'new world' wine offerings of from local and international producers. The wine service was interestingly collaborative even for BTG which was enjoyable and personal. A few of the finer details were overlooked which seem uncharacteristic from the most recent reviews but slightly tarnished our overall experience. However, we would consider returning when back in Hobart next.
Lola F — Google review
Have been to the very best of places from NYC, London, Rome, Sydney, etc. This is the most fabulous hidden gem with an absolutely lovely staff. The beef tartare was delicious and atmosphere was fabulous!!
Riley D — Google review
I found Lucinda while looking online for wine bars in the area and was so excited to go. Happy to say it lived up to my expectations. The server was incredibly knowledgeable and helped us pick out some lovely wines (a Riesling and a Chardonnay). The food was incredible as well. All in all one of my favorite stops so far.

Wine bar
Sonny is a popular pocket-sized wine bar overseen by local sommelier Alister Robertson. The blackboard wine list features a selection of fizzy, white, and red wines with a natural lean towards local and international choices. The menu offers small plates such as oysters, toast with various toppings, and handmade pasta. With its sleek ambiance and vinyl spinning in the background, Sonny is an ideal spot for snacking or turning it into a full dinner experience.
Truly excellent spot. Visiting from NYC and there is just something special about this place - I wish there was a way to capture this vibe and bring it back to the city. Had a great chilled red, and the green tomato + anchovy toast was a treat. Loved the records they were playing and service was great. It’s a small place, so you’re gonna want to show up right when they open, or within 15-30 minutes to get a seat (especially on a weekend). Worth a stop in Hobart!
Matt B — Google review
Vibes and music were impeccable, and the staff were absolutely wonderful and accommodating. Food was prepared fresh and we had good recommendations for the wine (see: mystery wine on the menu!) Apart from the alcoholic options there was also a very delicious non-alcoholic cider from PRAH that we’ve been unable to find at any other bar / restaurant since.
Audrey K — Google review
Just went here tonight! The food was terrific. Full of flavour, simple but also complex at the same time, so tasty! Staff were all so friendly and bad a good vibe going. They were so helpful in choosing wines and food (in particular this one waitress who helped me choose a wine and carefully went through the menu and helped with portioning sizing). Atmosphere was great. It's small, but it's cosy at the same time. Would 100% recommend and would definitely come again!
Duncan — Google review
Good vibes all round with the long communal bar seating and intimate benches off to the side. Even the LP stand is a seat if you're keen! Wine list hits hard despite it's size and great value small plates.
Tamika U — Google review
Loved this wine bar! Bar snacks were great and had some interesting pours. Service could have been more attentive. Recommend getting there early not to queue outside, but totally worth it for the vinyl music and good vibes.
Ammie D — Google review
Worth the wait! Really enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe! Food was delicious! We shared the pasta and it was a very generous size! Staff were all lovely and while waiting in the line kept popping out and keeping us updated and in the loop which we loved!
Georgina W — Google review
Good vibes, great service and nice cocktails. Oysters were yum but the other food was quite average for a pescatarian. About a 45 minute wait to get seated. Would recommend for a few drinks and some bar snacks over dinner.
Zoe C — Google review
Good vibes all around Visited alone and it’s a great environment to chat with new people at the communal bar It is very cozy. It adds to the vibes but it also means it’s quite tight in there, so be warned if you have accessibility needs. I also appreciated that Sonny is walk-in only (no resos)

A beautiful glass house that floats atop the Derwent River at the end of Franklin Wharf is a hotspot for food and drink in Hobart. With stunning views of Sullivan's Cove and the River, The Glass House is a must-go for visitors to Hobart. The food is top notch, ranging from delicate kingfish carpaccio to wild clover lamb tartare with lovage, gentleman's relish, and beetroot.
We had a fantastic lunch here! The staff were amazing from the moment we arrived, very attentive, friendly and helpful. They were happy to answer questions about the menu and offer suggestions if required. It was also lovely that our water glasses were topped up regularly without having to ask. We loved our meals. The food was delicious and fresh and nicely presented. The chairs were very comfortable and we were seated right next to the wonderful big windows looking out over the water. It was a lovely place to sit and they were happy for us to sit and chat after our meal, we definitely weren't rushed out! There are two unisex accessible bathrooms, with grab rails that drop down on both sides of the toilet as required, which was great.

It was my 60’s birthday! My wifie treated me to a trip to Hobart. We looked at places to celebrate online and intuitively picked Glasshouse. What a blast. The Hobart harbour looked sensational at sunset and the warm welcome at the restaurant made us feel ready for an exceptional gustatory experience. The degustation menu could be adjusted to pescatarians and was just simply out of here. So good indeed. The staff was amazing. Although we had to tame the “big boss” .. No we didn’t , he was more than Ok! A very memorable 60th birthday celebration! XO
Michael M — Google review
$85 feed me menu is a lot of food! But well worth it for the diverse range, produce was fresh and presentations was interesting. Everything from morowong sashimi to a pork schnitzel and spetzal took my taste buds on a journey. Staff were friendly and attentive and ambience is nice surrounded by the Hobart waterfront.
Andrew H — Google review
Beautiful venue on the water. Well spaced tables with luxurious comfy chairs. One can have a drink and bar snacks during the day / evening but we were there for lunch. We had a cauliflower dish which looked impressive but was a bit raw. Hard to cut which made it difficult to share. The beetroot salad was superb, as was the chicken liver parfait. The waiter was lovely and friendly which made it even more special. We watched the Mona ferry depart and arrive a couple of times plus the seaplane. July 2023 - I've visited a second time and it was just as good. They now have a special of pot pie on the lunch menu. We had arancini, beetroot salad and bao with a fish cake. Dolphins were larking about in the water near the restaurant.
Lisa B — Google review
Excellent location with unobstructed harbour views from the main dining area. Very good service, and quite creative cuisine Their stracciatella heirloom tomatoes were amazing perfectly ripe and sweet with Parmesan pangritata for some crunch, for me they were the highlights of the meal. The eye fillet was melt in the mouth tender, roast cauli a large serve with nice savoury miso enhancing the browning of it, was about half a cauliflower. Dessert (the lime one) was just as creative as the rest of the meal with none of the components overly sweet, perfectly refreshing after a big meal. They have a happy hour also which I notice included $12 cocktails and deals on beer, would be a great place to hang out and have some early evening drinks.
Gr8Food C — Google review
Came here for a dinner with my wife on our honeymoon. Was recommended by a Hobart local and it certainly did not disappoint. Firstly, the service. Our table was waited on by a woman named Dola. Every tiny attention to detail was perfectly managed and attended to by her. She was polite, discreet, gave sound advice and overall just made the night an unforgettable experience. The food and drinks were also equally commendable. We opted for the “feed me” option and it was a perfect choice. The variety of the dishes and flavor profiles were an absolute joy to eat. The cocktails were of a high caliber. I would thoroughly recommend this bar/restaurant for any couple visiting Hobart. The views from our table were the icing on the cake for our fantastic night.
James E — Google review
My partner and I came here for dinner and opted for the $55 Feed Me option. This included a delicious array of entree dishes, main dishes and desserts, all for great value. The food was all delicious, as were the drinks we ordered (we especially liked the Rhubarb and Ginger G+Ts). We were impressed with the atmosphere and music and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!
Olivia F — Google review
Excellent service, creative food, loved 3 out of the 4 dishes we ate. Sambas squid was a bit too ambitious and ended up just tasting like uncooked turmeric. Great cocktails . Pricy but good for a treat. Can't really see any view after dark. Can be a bit loud because of the square class Box layout .

Cocktail bar
Bar Wa Izakaya is a lively Japanese eatery that captures the essence of Tokyo right in North Hobart. This buzzing spot is perfect for late-night cravings, especially with its tempting offerings like tipsy midnight ramen and an array of shareable dishes such as signature oysters, okonomiyaki, and crispy karaage chicken. The atmosphere is vibrant and inviting, making it an ideal place to unwind with friends over delicious food and drinks.
We absolutely loved our experience and were not disappointed by anything. The food was delicious, service was on point and timing was spot on. Service staff were considered and assisted with ordering and any questions we had. They were very accommodating with dietary requirements and made sure there was no dairy in any of the dishes. The cocktail was delightful and fresh. Local wine was great as well. Would definitely recommend getting in early for a booking.
Jane M — Google review
Our family had a great experience here last week for dinner. Walking in, the bottles hanging off the ceiling created a cool and trendy vibe. The food selection is great with varied meat, seafood and veg options. Something as simple as the miso soup really impressed me! The cocktail was very delicious too.
Marian W — Google review
My wife and I had dinner at Bar Wa Izakaya on our first night in Hobart visiting from Melbourne. One of the best Japanese restaurants we’ve been to. Onto the dishes, we ordered - yellow tail kingfish sashimi, wallaby wing-age, yakiniku platter, karaage chicken, okonomiyaki and grilled corn. Every dish we ordered we absolutely loved and could not fault YUMMY AND DELICIOUS, jammed packed with flavour. Staff were so kind, friendly and accommodating. The vibes were amazing and the glass bottles on the ceiling made the ambiance stunning. Highly recommend this place!!!
Johnny P — Google review
Cannot rate this place more highly. Bar Wa Izakaya is an simply sensational venue serving Japanese fusion. Elaborate theming, staff are very attentive and knowledgeable and it hosts a wide selection of Japanese and local beverages. The highlight is the food which is expertly crafted and authentic and quickly prepared. Our two standouts were Kingfish Sashimi and Soba Noodles. Booking is a must.
Dom C — Google review
We spend our lives eating Japanese food in Australia and in Japan. Bar Wa has a terrific set up and fitout with great staff. Vibe is really good. Prices are great. A nifty spot with hidey holes everywhere - holds a lot of people but doesn’t feel crowded. The cocktail and drink list is awesome - if you can’t find something here to meet your needs you won’t find it anywhere. Unfortunately not certain the good made the grade. Whilst it was alright I couldn’t get excited. Maybe that’s just me being picky as we eat Japanese a lot. I’m sure most people would be satisfied with it so would recommend everyone try it.
Rob R — Google review
5 stars for the drinks and 3 stars for the food. Cocktails have all been spectacular. No doubt on this. Food is just so-so. Too much bonito flakes for one, but we probably just ordered dishes that has it. The hibachi grill meats are good. Gyoza and oyster tempura are just ok. Overall, would come for drinks and light snacks.
Erick T — Google review
Best restaurant in Hobart, but make sure you book early as they get booked out super quickly, even on weekdays! Everything we had was delicious, especially the Yuzu oysters and wallaby wings.
Colin L — Google review
Hands down probably the highlight of my culinary experience in Hobart. Food was a mix of amazing Japanese flavours and clearly using the best and freshest produce available in Hobart. The chefs have done an amazing job representing the Japanese cuisine and the bar menu compliments the food menu and no place would be complete without the unique atmosphere and professional and friendly wait staff. You have an amazing venue and an amazing team well done!!!

Grape Food and Wine Bar is a vibrant spot located in the Salamanca area of Hobart, Australia. It boasts an extensive wine list and offers live music most nights, creating an atmosphere filled with entertainment. This venue is perfect for enjoying a shared pizza before hitting the dancefloor for a memorable night out. Additionally, it's known for its Tasmanian wines and delightful tapas, making it a must-visit for food enthusiasts in Hobart.
Half price pizzas on Wednesdays. For us that meant 2 decent sized pizzas for $28. A deal! The service was polite and friendly. The pizzas were yum (BBQ chicken, Pulled lamb). I also had a cloudy apple cider (yum) and my wife enjoyed a glass of moscato. Do it.

Everyone come here for some good drinks specially wine but we go there for their delicious pizza specially their barbecue pizza it’s with sweet barbecue sauce chicken and pineapple. That taste was amazing and we recommend it very much. If you want to try some good pizza in Salamanca area.

It was our first day in Hobart, Tasmania, and we had a great experience at this restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious — we ordered steak, parma, and a kids’ meal. All the portions were generous, the quality was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. Friendly service too. Highly recommended!
Farid E — Google review
When I saw the menu online I was quite excited, both the food and wine selections looked very good. And whilst I have no complaints about the drinks. The food was below par. For a venue that offers premium wines their food falls short of expectations. We ordered the Croquettes, Buratta and Lamb Ragú pasta and the only one that was somewhat decent was the pasta despite looking very un appetising. Croquettes were dry and flavourless and the sauce didn’t help much. The Buratta was worse, I’m not sure how it’s possible to have dry Buratta but they did it, the stacciatella should be wet and creamy and it was quite the opposite, the flatbread was stale and hard as a rock and the tomato soup was no compliment to the buratta. Atleast the pasta tasted good but honestly the rest of the food made me loose my appetite. I hope this was not the usual experience for most people because it was very poor.

My husband and I came here for a weeknight dinner and sat outside to people watch. The bartended was nice and able to recommend a beer for my husband. We ate a steak sandwich and chips and a caesar salad. Both meals were fantastic, and the heaters helped us stay warm as the evening chilled.

This establishment is truly charming, boasting a delightful atmosphere. The service is exceptional, and the food is good quality, reasonably priced. they also have the biggest wine list and cellar I’ve ever seen so if you’re a wine lover this is probably your place. The interior provides a warm and cozy atmosphere with ample seating, and there’s also a terrace outside. I highly recommend giving it a try. if I was to eat here again, I would get the pizza. Everyone seems to have pizzas and they look amazing.

Let me tell you….. Tonight we wanted pizza and Sangria!!! And we found the best place to overcome our hunger and wishes, the gluten free Calabresse pizza was absolutely delicious, the sangrias were nice and fresh perfect accompaniment, and the service of high standards, we enjoyed our night out in Hobart. Tasmania has the best gluten free food!!! Thank you all!!!

This is a great place to sample local wines, but our favorite thing was their fantastic little pizzas. We got the mushroom which was fabulous. It's also a very attractive place to sit and enjoy and drink and a meal. Highly recommended, and a must-do for pizza lovers, but beware that it gets crowded at peak hours.

Peppina is a charming Italian restaurant located in Salamanca Place, Hobart, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere with a focus on Tasmanian produce. The menu features delicious antipasti, wagyu paccheri, and fresh fish dishes. The open kitchen adds to the cozy ambiance, allowing guests to observe the chefs at work. With its trattoria-style dining and exposed brick interior, Peppina provides an authentic Italian experience reminiscent of dining in a nonna's kitchen.
If I could give six stars for all categories I would. Incredible restaurant that you will remember. Extraordinary building and restaurant space - sandstone blocks with convict pick-axe marks. Bold, flavorful and delicate food - my favourite was the beetroot affair followed by the most beautiful lamb I’ve ever had. Service to die for - seem less, easy and kind. The wine list was extensive and very impressive - with wine from every corner of the globe. This is definitely a special event restaurant - enjoy the variety and hospitality.

One of my best meals in Hobart. Amazing modern Italian food. Every dish was executed perfectly. Staff were attentive and knows their stuff very well. Highlight of the night was definitely their tuna crudo! It was so good we ordered that for dessert as well! Bookings are essential as they get booked out early!

Great way to start your day with a nourishing breakfast- eggs done your way, coffee done by proper barista. Streaky bacon, sausages from Ziggy, Pigeon whole sourdough and croissants are just few of the featured Tasmanian products. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place to call home while in Hobart
Codyiander — Google review
We can't fault it. We were lucky to get a seat on a Saturday as they are booked out weeks in advance, but wow, that was the best food we have ever eaten. The steak was perfectly cooked, the gnocchi was so soft and with the slow cooked meat it just melted in our mouth. Then when we thought it was all over, then comes the desert.... phenomenal.
Undead_Fighter — Google review
I recently visited Peppina, and it was an amazing experience. Our table was looked after by Steven, who was absolutely wonderful. Even though my English is not great, he made the conversation fun and made me feel relaxed. Every dish created by Massimo was outstanding – the fish was cooked to absolute perfection. And the tiramisu… it’s honestly the best I’ve ever had! I highly recommend this place to everyone.

We enjoyed a wonderful and long-awaited dinner at Peppina on a visit from Melbourne. It exceeded our already high expectations with amazing Tasmanian produce presented in innovative and very delicious ways. The setting with sandstone walls and a spacious dining room was excellent and a particular shout out to Patrick our server for exceptional, friendly and knowledgeable service. We look forward to returning soon!

The Background: - Came here for breakfasts every morning for my 5 days stay The Good: - Beautiful ambiance and atmosphere - The skylight really let the morning lights in during breakfasts - The fruits are quality! - They can make egg whites omelette without oil or butter and it’s delicious The Bad: - Lack of selection and diversity - Im from Indonesia and I think they can do better with their Long Blacks

Institut Polaire, located on Murray Street in Hobart's waterfront area, is a must-visit for gin enthusiasts. The establishment offers a range of sensational local gins, including classic London Dry style and creative seasonal releases like saffron, sloe, and barrel-aged gins. Additionally, the venue serves as an unofficial cellar door for Sud Polaire Gin and Domaine Simha wines.
Ate here recently whilst on holiday in Hobart. We had the seasonal menu. The snapper was excellent, oysters and steak tartare were enjoyable. We were not a fan of the pasta with fava beans and asparagus. The chocolate and caramel tart was nice. Overall this is a good restaurant but very pricey. The meal for two of us was around $500. I would recommend as we enjoyed it but I prob would not be a regular there.

Institut Polaire offers fresh and amazing food in a lovely atmosphere. Their scallop sashimi is phenomenal—nicely balanced. The prices are reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients and the portion sizes. The service is outstanding, with staff ensuring every aspect of your experience is well taken care of. It's definitely a place you'll want to return to. Good choice for dining in groups, dates, or solo dinners.

Simply superb in every facet. This was one of the best dining experiences of my life. The staff were fantastic - knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. The wine suggestions by the team were spot on and paired perfectly with the food. We enjoyed a bottle of German Riesling, and a local Pinot Noir that were both sublime. The food was unbelievably good. The raw scallops were a particular highlight, as was the rest of the fruits de mer. The caviar service was well worth the extra cash, the blinis were to die for! I could go on and on about how much we enjoyed this place but if you take anything away from this it’s that you simply have to go! I will be telling all my friends about this place, and would give it more than 5 stars if I could. Sensational.
Angus A — Google review
I have been waiting to eat here for a long time and was not only not disappointed but blown away by the high level of service and innovative food as part of my seven course meal. Each course build upon each other and after 90 minutes I had thoroughly enjoyed simply one of the best meals I have had. And the portions were plentiful. Highlights were the scallop sashimi, heirloom tomatoes, snapper and an incredible whisky caramel tort. I ate by myself but the highly trained staff kept me informed and more importantly, very welcome and engaged. Highly, highly recommended!

We stumbled across here by walking down the street and stopping for a drink….ended up staying for dinner and the crab pasta was to die for. Absolutely incredible. Great soundtrack in the restart, friendly staff and great cocktail and wine selection. First stop for dinner next time we are in Hobart!

We went to Intuit Polaire for their martinis - which were exceptional! We decided to try a few smaller food dishes to share ... and what a pleasant surprise they were! Absolutely beautiful food too (we had fresh oysters, the Tuna Carpaccio and some Bodega toast) - as good as any fine dining restaurant! The staff were super friendly and very accommodating too. You must try the "cigarette martini" (if Lagavulin were to make a martini - this would be it!) Loved the experience souch we came back a second time a few days later! Loved this place!

Easily one of the best dining experiences we have had. The food, ambience, service, drinks & dedication to their craft is of the highest standard. Every dish was divine. We had a phenomenal Brazilian waitress who was provided such a great experience for us as we were sharing a birthday dinner. Thank you for such a beautiful dinner 🥰
Renee B — Google review
We visited Institut Polaire on a Friday night to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday. After hearing glowing recommendations from several friends, we were eager to try the feed me menu — and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. The intimate setting, exceptional food, and beautifully crafted drinks created the perfect celebration. The standout dish for us was the tartare, closely followed by the snapper — both absolute highlights. If you’re still reading, do yourself a favour and book a table. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.

Nestled in a charming historic sandstone warehouse on Salamanca Square, Botanica Bar Salamanca is the perfect spot for those looking to indulge in local flavors. This vibrant bar features an impressive selection of craft beers, wines, and spirits sourced from small producers and artisanal distillers. With a lively atmosphere that buzzes year-round, guests can enjoy everything from refreshing cocktails during happy hour to engaging live music performances.
Cozy vibe of chilling, I sit on outdoor space with a heating fire makes you feel comfy. Come to the place from 5-7pm you get happy hour for Tassie lager beer at 9$. Food serve in big portion, recommend the Chicken parmi. If you pair with drink, it charges only 10$. Worth a visit as they have live music as well

We visited last night and had a less-than-ideal experience. Upon arrival, we were shown to a table that hadn't been wiped down—there were still crumbs and marks. We had to clean it ourselves using baby wipes, which wasn't what we expected. Additionally, one of our glasses was dirty, and we only noticed after we had already started drinking. We ordered three burgers, and while two arrived at the same time, the third took almost 10 minutes longer. One of the burgers was requested with shallots on the side, but it was served with them mixed in, which could have been problematic had we had an allergy. We were disappointed with both the quality of service and the value for money, especially considering the nice location.
Giulia B — Google review
The really good value $10 family got me in but the amazing bar staff is why I'm giving it a great review. The young man and woman bar staff were so friendly and professional! $12 martin's too. I highly recommend!

Service was great good sense of humor and wasn’t just a robot anyway the food was good for 10$ parmas what’s an absolute steal. I would say the Parma could have had more cheese, a better sauce and it was on the chips anyway over good size for $10 was pretty happy. Atmosphere was not to bad just the booths were dirty I will be back for more Parmas.

Great spot on a chilly evening in Hobart to sip on a couple of delicious cocktails in the outdoor gazebo area sitting beside an open fire... very nice! Unfortunately we didnt have enough time to stay and order any of the tempting deliciousness that was on offer in the menu but service and staff were exceptional. A must visit next time!
DereknMaree K — Google review
Not much variety on menu (all fried )and food is edible but I've also had better microwave meals. Went with a group and huge gap between meals coming out despite it not being busy.
Danielle H — Google review
Amazing ambiance and drinks! Menu has many different options for food- unfortunately didnt get to try any as the kitchen was closed. I ended up trying the salted caramel espresso martini and it was so delicious I had to order another! The ambiance is so amazing- music, decor, and fireplace really seals the deal. Highly recommend visiting here for a few drinks and a relaxing night just to socialize and hang out with good drinks!
Khushi K — Google review
I’d like to express my disappointment with the customer service during our recent visit. A waitress named Georgia was aggressive and rude, which made the experience unpleasant. Rather than being helpful, her attitude was far from welcoming. Additionally, we were attending a private function, but people from outside the event were allowed to intrude, making guests feel uncomfortable. The staff seemed indifferent and made no effort to manage the situation or ensure our privacy.

We came for an early dinner, our 3 year old loved his pasta and being able to see boats coming and going, we absolutely loved our truffle pizza and seafood chowder. Great cocktails, great service, and it was just what we needed after a long day of exploring.
Jade G — Google review
We had the most amazing meal here! The seafood platter was absolutely delicious – so fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. The scallops and prawns were a standout, and the calamari was perfectly cooked and crispy. Portion sizes were generous, and everything came out looking incredible (and tasting even better!). The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the food and the service. Highly recommend this spot if you’re after fresh, top-quality seafood and a lovely dining experience.
Belinda D — Google review
Ok so there are 2 separate sections to this place, one where there is a bar with live music and a pub kind of feed and another section that is pricier and serves nicer fine dining type food. Oddly (which really needs updating by the venue) there is no menu or mention of the more expensive section in this place when you research it on Google maps, so when we booked, we expected to be going to eat some pub grub. When we arrived, we were actually booked in the fine dining section, but as this is the experience we were trying to book in at other places (booked out), we were ok with that. We had 2 cocktails to start and they were very nice. For food, we ordered the garlic infused roll (can’t remember the exact name) as a starter, Pork Belly main and the eye fillet. We have been to some pretty nice restaurants where we are from in Adelaide, but the pork belly was probably one of the best main meals I have ever had, and that says a lot. The fillet was also incredible. We both had an amazing dining experience and would 100% return the next time we visit. It’s a shame this place’s reviews are lower than 4, I suppose due to the bar and the lack of info on the restaurant part of it on google. It really does exceed this rating if you are going for the restaurant part of it.
Adam H — Google review
Possibly the best quality food I’ve ever eaten in a restaurant, portions were perfect size and were cooked to perfection, service was excellent both from the bar and the kitchen.
Grayson K — Google review
A friend & I shared a gluten free vegetarian pizza (which sounded great). When it turned up it was only just warm, undercooked & had very few toppings (or cheese!). For $35, which included the additional $5 for the privilege of a GF base, I found it extremely poor (to be polite!). The venues atmosphere was lacking & the place was also quite cold. Not a great experience.
Jill H — Google review
I ordered the "seafood buffet"and it was amazing. I would definitely order it again. Great customer service too.
Sylvia — Google review
Amazing venue! Live music on friday night. The place was bright, open and clean! We were dining early and didn't have a reservation, but the place looks to get busy, so could be useful to make a reservation if wanting to dine past 6pm. No shortage of staff and everyone was so helpful and attentive. The food was beautiful and fresh and the portions were massive! The drinks were amazing and cocktails were half price! I recommend the Tommy Margarita 👌 Vegetarian and vegan options available. High chair available. Beautiful views over the water.

La Sardina Loca is a lively aperitivo and share plates bar located in midtown Hobart, set within one of the city's oldest sandstone buildings. The venue offers a cozy courtyard for sipping cocktails with friends and a converted horse stable for a more intimate setting. The menu features small plates influenced by Spanish and Mediterranean cuisines, making food the centerpiece of every good time.
By chance we walked past this restaurant and thought to try it out. It was the best choice we made in our trip to Hobart. The service and food is exceptional, the owner was very friendly, polite and offered great service. Highly recommend the rare roast beef rump and fish. We definitely come when we have a chance to come back to Hobart.

Came here for dinner shared a few small plates. Over all was nice. I loved the cheese bites. Then I also loved the rare beef! It was more blue the rare! Chicken skewers were amazing too! The squid was spicy some where a little rubbery but over all nice! It’s got a lot of history in the building. Josh was a fabulous waiter!

We were actually trying to go to Sonny at first but honestly no one even looked at us like total tourist vibes😓 Ended up stumbling into La Sardina Loca instead and wow… what a hidden gem! Way more relaxed space and the “rare roast beef rump”was insane😱🩷😱So good we didn’t even stop to take pics. The oysters and seafood were also super fresh, all gone in minutes. Definitely one of the best surprises in Hobart!

Had a fantastic time at la sadina loca the other night. food, drinks, service and atmosphere was amazing. quality of food for the price was excellent value. josh mainly served us and he was professional and polite from start to finish. we had an issue with our debit cards at the end, and he was incredibly understanding made us feel trusted - something that was very much noted. we’re looking forward to returning and would recommend to anyone who appreciates great food/drinks and warm service.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A True Tasmanian Gem! La Sardina Loca is hands-down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Tasmania! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and a genuine sense of hospitality that set the tone for a truly memorable evening. The food was absolutely exceptional — every dish bursting with fresh, vibrant flavours and beautifully presented. You can tell that a lot of care and creativity goes into the menu. Each bite was a perfect balance of texture and taste — the kind of food that makes you pause and smile after the first mouthful. And then there’s Josh — what a star! His energy, knowledge, and friendly personality elevated the whole experience. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, offering thoughtful recommendations and making us feel so welcome. It’s rare to find service that feels this genuine and enthusiastic. If you’re in Tasmania and looking for a restaurant that delivers exceptional food, fantastic service, and a truly fun atmosphere, La Sardina Loca is the place to go. Can’t wait to come back!

Tucked away down an alley is an inviting outdoor area perfect for catching the sun; inside you will find intimate dinning spaces suited for dinning alone or as couple - there are also areas for larger gatherings. The menu suits my grazing eating style with many options to choose from; staff are welcoming and attentive. I have enjoyed the court yard in the summer and the cozy inside space to escape from Hobart's blustery October windy weather - lovely centrally located restaurant.

It was so good we came back a second time during our trip of only 4 days in Hobart. The venue is gorgeous with beautiful red brick walls and fairy lights, some cute olive trees in the courtyard. I felt like I was transported to some village courtyard in Italy. The food was exquisite and so stunningly presented and the service top notch! with beautiful and warmly welcoming staff members. We had several shared plates from the menu including oysters (which were deliciously fresh and tasty), fish of the day, etc but my absolute favourite was the dish with goat and pea puree. I love all the ingredients in that dish and would have never thought of putting them together. Everything was such a delight to the eyes and to the taste buds. Highly recommend and will definitely make a stop next time I'm back in town.

Clarified upper cut, rum, port, tea, milk magic. Heavy on the magic, takes a day to prepare to create the whey. Heritage yeast. Underground beer tunnels. Makes more sense when you're there.

Kaye C — Google review
Great food and good service from the manager who served us - he was fantastic. The other staff, however, were disinterested and lacked warmth, especially the barman - who was our first point of contact when we walked in. He had a sour attitude and was unpleasantly cheeky when we had wine queries, which made us comfortable. Although, he changed his tune when taking payment and prompting for tip ..... overall an average experience. They need to work on the engagement and energy of their Saturday evening staffing.

Service was a little slow, but otherwise epic. Great food, cool cocktail bar with jazz piano downstairs and amazing fit out that impressed me without being snooty at all. Service is very good, staff friendly and busy without being crowded. Book or get their early and have a cocktail downstairs.

If you're on the hunt for a fantastic spot to enjoy some exceptional microbrews, look no further than Cellarbrations. This charming establishment boasts an impressive selection of craft beers, many with delightful potency that will surely please any beer enthusiast. The friendly service staff, particularly standout team members like George and Blaire, elevate the experience even further with their welcoming demeanor and knowledgeable recommendations.
They have a very tidy selection of wines and spirits and beers. It’s the place to go to get your BYOs for nearby restaurants.

Excellent micro brews. Some of them are quite potent! Very friendly service staff. I have to drop 1 star for inexplicable naming of this lovely watering hole; is it "Cellarbrations at The Abbey" or is it "Worlds end brewpub" as advertised in one of their marketing posters inside the establishment? Google did not allow for my suggested edit to include both names in this manner: "Cellarbrations at The Abbey (aka "Worlds end brewpub")"

I am a little perplexed after a recent experience here. My partner made a late night stop in to grab a 4 pack of alcoholic ginger beer only to get home and realise that there were only 3 cans in the pack. I rang the bottleshop to be greeted by someone who quite frankly sounded drunk. He was incoherent, giggly and unprofessional. He put me on hold to check if they had the stock to replace the missing can and hung up on me instead. I know that some people are eccentric but this gentleman's demeanour was very odd. My partner had to go back and retrieve the missing can at our inconvenience. No apology was made, the gentleman just found it highly amusing. Safe to say we will avoid this bottleshop in the future as customer service isn't taken seriously.
Candice C — Google review
This is the only bottle shop I go to now, and that is almost entirely for the exceptional service I receive from the great staff, (most particularly George and Blaire). Though this business also has a great range and reasonable prices, I find it is most often the staff that really make a business stand out, and on this point Cellarbrations Sandy Bay is certainly no exception.
